Latest / Michelle Explains Anime, Poorly / Banana Fish Ep.12- To Have and Have Not
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person thing, Michelle. I'm back because this
- 0:05Speaker 1: is what we do every week, so let's just do
- 0:09Speaker 1: some more. I don't think I have anything to tell
- 0:12Speaker 1: you except that between when I recorded last episode and
- 0:16Speaker 1: when I'm recording this episode, I watched the first episode
- 0:19Speaker 1: of Dondadaan and it was great. It was so good.
- 0:22Speaker 1: So again, if you haven't checked that out, get on
- 0:25Speaker 1: it if you're interested, of course. And I haven't watched
- 0:29Speaker 1: the second episode yet, even though it came out today,
- 0:32Speaker 1: so who knows. Maybe it's terrible, Maybe the quality just
- 0:35Speaker 1: goes straight down, kind of like just what happens this
- 0:39Speaker 1: past week with Uzumaki Episode two being apparently terrible. I'm
- 0:43Speaker 1: not watching it because I just didn't expect it to
- 0:46Speaker 1: be good, so I am proven, right, I guess. But
- 0:51Speaker 1: who cares about Uzumaki and don dada on, We're gonna
- 0:55Speaker 1: talk about banana fish because why not. So anyway, we're
- 1:00Speaker 1: on episode twelve, obviously, which is called to Have and
- 1:03Speaker 1: Have Not, which is also the title of a novel
- 1:06Speaker 1: by Ernest Hemingway, which has a plot line that has
- 1:09Speaker 1: nothing to do with this anime. And before we start,
- 1:12Speaker 1: just so you know, I have really, really bad allergies,
- 1:15Speaker 1: So I will try to cut out any sniffing I'm doing,
- 1:19Speaker 1: but you still might hear some. And if you notice
- 1:21Speaker 1: that my voice sounds weird or anything, it's because I
- 1:24Speaker 1: have really bad allergies. Yeah, I don't know. Anyway, if
- 1:28Speaker 1: you remember at the end of last episode, Ash, well
- 1:32Speaker 1: technically Bones and Kong had just fucking stabbed Wookie in
- 1:36Speaker 1: the back and then Ash was like walking past the
- 1:39Speaker 1: train and then that was it. So we don't start
- 1:42Speaker 1: right there, but we start the episode with Arthur and
- 1:46Speaker 1: his guys at like a bar, which maybe is there
- 1:48Speaker 1: like hangout or something, because he always seems to be
- 1:50Speaker 1: in this bar with his guys. Also, I wonder if
- 1:53Speaker 1: they have like a name, like a gang name. I
- 1:56Speaker 1: don't know. So Arthur is on the phone and he says,
- 1:59Speaker 1: what they got Wookie? And he looks pretty scared because
- 2:03Speaker 1: they got Wookie obviously, and this guy is just like Boss.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And Arthur says, shut up, what now? And the guy's
- 2:10Speaker 1: like they got Dick from the Goblins. See the other
- 2:13Speaker 1: gangs have names. You think it was Ash and another
- 2:16Speaker 1: guy's like Boss. And Arthur is clutching his glass of
- 2:20Speaker 1: probably alcohol very tightly and then he throws it against
- 2:22Speaker 1: the wall and it shatters. He's like shit, he thinks
- 2:25Speaker 1: he can just barred onto my grounds. I'm not gonna
- 2:27Speaker 1: let that happen. And then we get the opening theme. Yay,
- 2:31Speaker 1: that was really early for the opening. Usually we get
- 2:33Speaker 1: like more than one scene. So interesting, not that interesting.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Back from the opening, we see a cell phone that's
- 2:42Speaker 1: open to an article about Wookie being stabbed, and Sing says,
- 2:47Speaker 1: Ash is mad now, and we see that he is
- 2:50Speaker 1: in a room with yuey Loung, who is working at
- 2:52Speaker 1: like a desk as Sing sits on the couch and
- 2:56Speaker 1: yue Lung's like oh, and singh says, it's always been
- 2:59Speaker 1: the other gang that picks fights with him, but not
- 3:01Speaker 1: this time. I bet Shorter's death set him off. And
- 3:04Speaker 1: yue Lung's like probably, and he's writing something in Chinese.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Sing walks over to him and he's like, why won't
- 3:12Speaker 1: you tell me why Ash killed Shorter. He'd never just
- 3:15Speaker 1: kill his best friend. There's gotta be a reason. Yuelung
- 3:18Speaker 1: stops writing and he's like, he didn't kill him, he
- 3:21Speaker 1: set him free, and Sing's like, cut that shit out.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I can't take that as an answer yue Lung, very
- 3:28Speaker 1: calmly by the way, says I'm in a living hell.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Sing looks pretty shocked by that, and yue Lun continues,
- 3:35Speaker 1: so is Ash. He looks pretty sad, which makes a
- 3:40Speaker 1: ton of sense, and he says, I'm not telling you
- 3:44Speaker 1: because I don't want to drag you into that same hell.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Sing like kind of half gasps, and he's like, that
- 3:49Speaker 1: is so cheesy, but you make it sound like it's real.
- 3:53Speaker 1: It is real. Sing. You and Ash are somewhat alike.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Uelung's like, I am nothing like that bararian. Yeah you are,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and Sing says you hate him because you're like him.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yue Lung kind of puffs and looks at Sings sternly like, yeah,
- 4:09Speaker 1: this is exactly mirroring Ash and Ag. Actually, Ue Lung
- 4:13Speaker 1: is so much like Ash, and Sing is proving himself
- 4:17Speaker 1: to be kind of his Ag too. So interesting anyway,
- 4:21Speaker 1: Sing like backs away and he's like, whoa chill, But
- 4:24Speaker 1: I think he's only like half serious. And the door
- 4:26Speaker 1: opens and we hear some guy say mister Hua Lung
- 4:30Speaker 1: has arrived. Sing sighs, and he's like, I can't handle
- 4:34Speaker 1: two venomous stakes at one time. I'm out and he
- 4:37Speaker 1: starts to walk away, and ue Lung says, Sing, are
- 4:41Speaker 1: you gonna fight? Ash? Sing stops and he's like, yeah,
- 4:45Speaker 1: if you're not gonna tell me the truth, he turns back,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I'll settle it myself. Then he leaves. Yue Lung thinks, Ash,
- 4:56Speaker 1: I won't ever look back again, the same way you
- 4:58Speaker 1: never do. He stands as Swallong enters and thinks there's
- 5:04Speaker 1: no turning back now, and then out loud, he says, welcome,
- 5:07Speaker 1: big brother. Then we go to Max and Shunichi, who
- 5:10Speaker 1: I guess are at Charlie's place. Shunichi is sitting with
- 5:13Speaker 1: his laptop on his lap, I think, and Max is
- 5:17Speaker 1: on the phone and we hear the TV and there's
- 5:21Speaker 1: like a newscaster going the series of streaking killings, and
- 5:25Speaker 1: Max says, yeah, hold on, and he hands the phone
- 5:28Speaker 1: to Shunichi. It's Ash. Tunici's like Ash. He picks it up. Hello.
- 5:34Speaker 1: We get a super close up of Ash now we
- 5:36Speaker 1: cannot see where he is, and he says, how have
- 5:39Speaker 1: you been, e bass On. I've got two tickets for
- 5:41Speaker 1: a flight to Tokyo that leaves in ten days. Sinici's
- 5:44Speaker 1: like what, Ash continues, I'll keep Agy safe until then
- 5:49Speaker 1: you stay low too. Shunichi's like, where's a chan now?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Ash is leaning against the wall somewhere now we see,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and he is wearing sunglasses, and it's like an inside
- 6:01Speaker 1: place of some sort. It's pretty like big and whitish.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I don't know how to describe the place. It's not
- 6:08Speaker 1: like crumbly or in disrepair like a lot of places
- 6:12Speaker 1: we see him in. Anyway, he says, somewhere safe. But
- 6:16Speaker 1: I can't let you see him now. She Nei's like,
- 6:19Speaker 1: you think he'll agree to go home. Ash is like,
- 6:23Speaker 1: don't worry, he'll go back because he'll hate me by then.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And he kind of like half smiles but looks really
- 6:32Speaker 1: horribly sad, like he knows what he's doing is best
- 6:34Speaker 1: for Ag, but it hurts so much. Shunichi says what
- 6:40Speaker 1: and Ash is like, anyway, this is goodbye. Shooniji says Ash,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but Ash doesn't let him talk, and he says, I
- 6:48Speaker 1: wish I could have seen that picture you took of Ag.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Shunichi gasps, yeah, me too, dude, and Ash says seeya
- 6:57Speaker 1: and Shni's like, Ash, hey, I'm sorry, and Ash says
- 7:02Speaker 1: why it hangs up? She needs she looks horridly distressed. Now,
- 7:09Speaker 1: in the manga, this conversation is in person, which it
- 7:12Speaker 1: doesn't matter that it's not here. But after Ash leaves,
- 7:17Speaker 1: she says why and he leaves she Needi just breaks
- 7:21Speaker 1: down crying, and he's like, I don't know, maybe I'm
- 7:24Speaker 1: just getting old, but like he's such a good kid,
- 7:28Speaker 1: and I really wish that that was in here because
- 7:31Speaker 1: it's like super sad. And also I was like, that's me, Shunichi,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I feel just like you. But yeah, this isn't a
- 7:39Speaker 1: good way to end this. This sounds like Ash is
- 7:42Speaker 1: getting ready to die because obviously otherwise he could see
- 7:47Speaker 1: that picture that she needs you took up ag jumping,
- 7:50Speaker 1: Like why wouldn't he be able to see that? So
- 7:55Speaker 1: this isn't good. Also, what do you mean she's gonna
- 7:59Speaker 1: hate you by that? What does that mean? Ash? Anyway,
- 8:03Speaker 1: we cut to someone setting down a class of champagne
- 8:06Speaker 1: in front of Dino, and by the voices we're hearing
- 8:09Speaker 1: like over an intercom, it's clear that this is an airport.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Gregory is also there with him. They're like sitting in
- 8:15Speaker 1: like a lounge, I guess, and we hear the intercom
- 8:18Speaker 1: say passengers boarding Air France flight to A one, please
- 8:22Speaker 1: proceed to Gate fifteen. Dino says, hmmm. Something catches his
- 8:27Speaker 1: attention and he looks over and he sees Ash leaning
- 8:30Speaker 1: against the wall with his arms crossed and sunglasses on.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Dino is pretty surprised by this, because I would be too,
- 8:37Speaker 1: because why are you coming out of hiding? Ash pulls
- 8:40Speaker 1: down his sunglasses and smiles at him and says hi.
- 8:46Speaker 1: We cut to Ash sitting across from Dino in the
- 8:48Speaker 1: lounge and he says, seems like you're in a hurry.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I wonder when you'll be able to come back. Dinas
- 8:56Speaker 1: like it won't be long. Gregory reaches for the in
- 9:00Speaker 1: his jacket and Dino's like, not here, It's probably good.
- 9:04Speaker 1: It's an airport. Also, why is he carrying a gun
- 9:07Speaker 1: in the airport? But whatever, And then to Ash, he says,
- 9:11Speaker 1: you did well, and Ash is like you could say
- 9:14Speaker 1: it was all thanks to your investment, okay, Ash? And
- 9:20Speaker 1: Dino's like, and this is what I get in return?
- 9:23Speaker 1: And Ash says I've already paid my interest far more
- 9:27Speaker 1: than I owed. Yeah. Dino's like, no, it's not enough,
- 9:32Speaker 1: not enough at all, And Ash says, I used to
- 9:35Speaker 1: think I'd be free if I could get rid of you.
- 9:37Speaker 1: But I guess I was wrong. Whatever you're up to,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I'll stop it, Dino says, so you came to declare war.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I'll bring a good taxidermist with me when I come
- 9:47Speaker 1: home then, and Ash is like taxidermist. Dino says, to
- 9:53Speaker 1: stuff you and I can't wait. There's like a pause
- 9:58Speaker 1: and ask kind a sigh, and he stands and says,
- 10:03Speaker 1: I hope your plane doesn't crash. It wouldn't be fair
- 10:05Speaker 1: to the other passengers if they had to go to
- 10:07Speaker 1: hell with you. And he starts to leave. He's putting
- 10:11Speaker 1: his classes back on, and he turns back and says,
- 10:13Speaker 1: bon voyage. Dino doesn't respond to this, but he is
- 10:18Speaker 1: gripping his cane very tightly. We see a TV with
- 10:23Speaker 1: the news on, and there's like no translation as to
- 10:27Speaker 1: what the newscaster is saying for some reason, but on
- 10:30Speaker 1: the screen it says, see and see New York broadcast
- 10:33Speaker 1: Today's topic twelve dead in an escalation in streak gang violence,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and we see it's eleven thirty, I guess in the
- 10:38Speaker 1: afternoon or something. We cut back a little bit wider
- 10:42Speaker 1: and we see that the gang is watching the TV
- 10:45Speaker 1: in Ash's new apartment, like sitting on couches and stuff.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Alex says, the Lower East Side is all broken up.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Kung I think says this because we don't see his
- 10:54Speaker 1: face when he says it, but it sounds like him.
- 10:56Speaker 1: They're all pissing in their pants right now, and Ash
- 10:59Speaker 1: is like, turn the TV off. It's irritating. First, serious, dude,
- 11:04Speaker 1: they're talking about you guys on TV. He points to
- 11:07Speaker 1: a picture of some guys on a tablet that he has,
- 11:10Speaker 1: and he says, these are the next targets. Get them
- 11:13Speaker 1: to leave Manhattan if they won't kill them. Oh fuck,
- 11:18Speaker 1: at least he's giving them an out. First. AG opens
- 11:21Speaker 1: the door then though from I guess he's been in
- 11:23Speaker 1: the bedroom, and he looks shocked. They think maybe he
- 11:28Speaker 1: heard that, and Ash says what. Ag gets himself together
- 11:33Speaker 1: and smiles and he's like, sorry, it can wait. He
- 11:37Speaker 1: closes the door again. Once he's back at the room,
- 11:39Speaker 1: he thinks, I'm pretty sure I just heard him say
- 11:43Speaker 1: kill them. He closes his eyes. Stop thinking about it.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I already decided to remember that I trust him no
- 11:51Speaker 1: matter what. Fuck back to Ash, who says, how's Black
- 11:58Speaker 1: Sabbath the band. I mean, they're okay. I've never really
- 12:01Speaker 1: been a huge fan, but you know, if you like him,
- 12:04Speaker 1: I understand. Sure. No, I think he's talking about a gang.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Kong says, no action over there at all. Bones is like,
- 12:13Speaker 1: that's kan Blood's gang, right. Alex is like, yeah, Bloody Kane,
- 12:18Speaker 1: the Black King of Harlem. Ash says, I'll go see
- 12:21Speaker 1: him personally. Alex, Bones and Kanan look at Ash like
- 12:25Speaker 1: super fucking surprised, and Kng is like, that's way too dangerous.
- 12:29Speaker 1: He hates white guys, and Alex says, and what if
- 12:32Speaker 1: he's already joined up with Arthur. Ash says it's the
- 12:35Speaker 1: only way to find out what's on his mind. We
- 12:38Speaker 1: go to Ag, who is on a laptop and he
- 12:42Speaker 1: hears the door open and turns and it's Ash and
- 12:44Speaker 1: he says, you get the pictures. AG's like, huh oh yeah.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Ash looks at the laptop and he says, let's see
- 12:52Speaker 1: they're good. I'm lucky to have a photographer's assistant with me.
- 12:56Speaker 1: He kind of chuckles and ad like scowls and blushes
- 12:59Speaker 1: and he's like, don't make fun of me. How did
- 13:01Speaker 1: you rent an apartment? Like this, and right near Golzine's
- 13:05Speaker 1: office too. Ash is like looking at a book on
- 13:08Speaker 1: the bookshelf because there's a bunch of them, and he says,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I was lucky. Yeah, you're like the least lucky person ever.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And AG says, you don't tell me when it comes
- 13:17Speaker 1: to the really important stuff. Am I that untrustworthy? From
- 13:22Speaker 1: his face, I actually don't think he was being totally serious,
- 13:25Speaker 1: like he kind of wanted to play a little because
- 13:27Speaker 1: they do that. But Ash is still looking at the
- 13:31Speaker 1: bookshelf and he looks hurt actually, and he says, it's
- 13:37Speaker 1: not like that, and AG's like, no, I'm sorry. I
- 13:42Speaker 1: know you don't tell me to keep me safe, but
- 13:43Speaker 1: I just feel so helpless knowing I can't do anything
- 13:46Speaker 1: to help. Ash says, you're doing plenty by taking pictures
- 13:50Speaker 1: of the people who visit his office, and AG's like, well,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I mean yeah, But AG kind of trails off and
- 13:56Speaker 1: Ash is distracted as he is looking at it. Particular
- 14:00Speaker 1: picture that Ag took of Senator Kippard and Arthur smiles, Fuck.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I don't think either of them saw Senator Kippard when
- 14:10Speaker 1: they were at the mansion. He was like up in
- 14:14Speaker 1: that kind of like gallery area watching Ash Murder Shorter
- 14:18Speaker 1: and stuff like that, so I don't think he realized
- 14:21Speaker 1: that he was involved, but now he knows. Anyway, we
- 14:24Speaker 1: go to Harlem, yay, finally, I guess. So we're at
- 14:28Speaker 1: like a CD bar and there's like a bunch of
- 14:30Speaker 1: tough looking gang members and there's like this one dude
- 14:34Speaker 1: sitting on the bar and he's like super muscular. He's
- 14:37Speaker 1: wearing like a vest but no shirt, and he has
- 14:39Speaker 1: like a chest tattoo and an arm tattoo, so that's
- 14:41Speaker 1: probably why he's now wearing a shirt. And he's obviously black.
- 14:45Speaker 1: This is a black gang, and he's wearing sunglasses too,
- 14:47Speaker 1: if I didn't just say that, And he says, you're
- 14:52Speaker 1: just like the rumors say, like a pretty peacock and
- 14:54Speaker 1: a dump. So what do you want an Ash, who
- 14:57Speaker 1: was standing before him, says, I'm going to settle things
- 15:00Speaker 1: with Arthur. I want you to stay out of it.
- 15:02Speaker 1: The guy who's obviously kin says, what's in it for me?
- 15:07Speaker 1: And ashes like, that's not all. I don't want you
- 15:10Speaker 1: messing around in downtown. By the way, Harlem is in uptown.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I guess. The gang members all gasp, but this, and
- 15:17Speaker 1: Kin says, you came here alone to tell me that
- 15:21Speaker 1: you've really got some balls. If I'd already teamed up
- 15:24Speaker 1: with Arthur, you wouldn't have made it home alive. You
- 15:26Speaker 1: know that, right, And Ash says, but you wouldn't. Kine's like,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and why is that? And Ash just like, because you're
- 15:34Speaker 1: like me, you'd rather die than let anyone control you.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Aw Cain like chuckles, and he's like, and if I
- 15:41Speaker 1: say no, Downtown is really too good to give up.
- 15:44Speaker 1: And Ash's like, then you've got it coming. Some dude
- 15:47Speaker 1: who's listening to this. One of the gang members is like,
- 15:49Speaker 1: what did you say? And he starts to pull out
- 15:51Speaker 1: a gun, but Ass shoots first before he can even
- 15:54Speaker 1: do that, and he hits the guy in the hand
- 15:56Speaker 1: and the guy screams. Tensions are like super high now,
- 15:59Speaker 1: and Kin is looking towards Ash little worried, and that's
- 16:03Speaker 1: probably because the Ash has turned the gun towards him. Now.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Kane is like, nobody move. He's aiming right at my temple.
- 16:09Speaker 1: He could pull the trigger before you can touch him.
- 16:12Speaker 1: There's a slight pause as Ash is silently aiming the
- 16:15Speaker 1: gun at Kin, and then Kane says forgive me. It
- 16:19Speaker 1: was honorable for you to come alone. They won't lay
- 16:22Speaker 1: a finger on you. You have my word. Ash slowly
- 16:25Speaker 1: puts down the gun. Kine continues, I'll be straight with you.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I don't give a holy fuck about your war, but
- 16:32Speaker 1: you better not drag me into it. If anything happens
- 16:35Speaker 1: to any of my men, you'll pay for it big time.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I need you to leave for today, though. Guys like
- 16:39Speaker 1: you make my boys thirsty for blood cheese dude, and
- 16:43Speaker 1: Ash is like, okay, thanks for your time. Kane says,
- 16:47Speaker 1: take care of yourself. You're too good to fall to
- 16:49Speaker 1: the mafia. Ash, she was walking out, stops at the
- 16:52Speaker 1: door and he says, yeah, I agree. Kane chuckles and
- 16:56Speaker 1: he's like smooth talker. I like him. Good. He found
- 17:00Speaker 1: a new friend. We then cut to Ash, who is
- 17:04Speaker 1: looking super freaked out, but we can't see what of
- 17:07Speaker 1: and he says, what is this? And AG's like dried
- 17:12Speaker 1: horse mackerel, boiled spinach, and some rice and mes soup.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And we see that they're sitting at a table in
- 17:17Speaker 1: the apartments with lots of food spread out in front
- 17:20Speaker 1: of them. Ash picks up a small bowl and a
- 17:24Speaker 1: She says that's nato. Oh no, So if you don't
- 17:29Speaker 1: know what nato is, it is fermented soybeans and it's
- 17:32Speaker 1: pretty popular in Japan. Has like a breakfast food, I think,
- 17:37Speaker 1: but it's got like a really apparently pungent smell and
- 17:40Speaker 1: it's like super super slimy. So I don't think it's
- 17:44Speaker 1: well liked by like foreigners very often. I've never had
- 17:49Speaker 1: Nato before, and I really really want to try it now,
- 17:51Speaker 1: so maybe I should figure that out. Maybe if I do,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I'll let you know about it. Man, I really want
- 17:56Speaker 1: some now. Anyway, it seems like a bad choice to
- 18:00Speaker 1: give someone as a yay, look at this thing, I like,
- 18:03Speaker 1: but whatever. Anyway, Ash sniffs it and he's like, it
- 18:08Speaker 1: smells like it's rotten, and AG says, that's how it's
- 18:11Speaker 1: supposed to smell. Ash is being a super good sport,
- 18:15Speaker 1: and he's like, how do you eat it? AG says,
- 18:18Speaker 1: add soy sauce, mustard and green onions, then makes it
- 18:20Speaker 1: till it's all sticky and he's doing that and Ash
- 18:24Speaker 1: stirs the Nato, but he's like not convinced, looking, and
- 18:28Speaker 1: AG's like, yeah, you got it, and he says pour
- 18:31Speaker 1: it over rice and he's doing that and dig in.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Ash takes a bite, and we see AG also take
- 18:37Speaker 1: a bite, and he's like, hm, tasty, and poor Ash
- 18:41Speaker 1: looks like this is the worst thing that's ever happened
- 18:44Speaker 1: to him. AG's like like it. Ash is like turning
- 18:49Speaker 1: blue and he says, I'm gonna throw up. Then he
- 18:53Speaker 1: picks up the whole dried mackerel and he's like this
- 18:56Speaker 1: stinks too, and AG says it's a post. Ash grimaces,
- 19:03Speaker 1: but he's like still examining it, and he says, do
- 19:06Speaker 1: Japanese people only eat stinky food? He takes a bite
- 19:10Speaker 1: of the head though, and AG looks kind of surprised,
- 19:13Speaker 1: and he says healthy Japanese food is good for guys
- 19:16Speaker 1: like you will only eat meat. Ash says yeah, and
- 19:20Speaker 1: he starts putting some cream cheese on a knife. Continues,
- 19:24Speaker 1: I grew two inches last year and I haven't gained
- 19:26Speaker 1: a pound. He starts to spread the cream cheese on
- 19:29Speaker 1: a bagel. I think, now, I'm pretty sure this was
- 19:31Speaker 1: just a manga gag, like saying, like, hey, Ash's character
- 19:35Speaker 1: design has changed a lot, right, guys, so we probably
- 19:37Speaker 1: didn't really need it in the anime. But that's fine.
- 19:41Speaker 1: AG says, lucky you, I think I've stopped growing. He
- 19:44Speaker 1: looks pretty sad. Age's pretty short, and Ash is like,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'm in the middle of my growth spurt, not like
- 19:49Speaker 1: some old geezer. AG kind of grumbles and huffs and
- 19:53Speaker 1: Ash says, what's wrong, big brother, You'd have to go
- 19:57Speaker 1: back fifteen years if you wanted to beat me up.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I actually think the two year old Ash could still
- 20:02Speaker 1: take Agy. But whatever. Age he's like, don't I wish
- 20:05Speaker 1: i'd beat you a pulp and he tries to grab
- 20:08Speaker 1: the knife from Ash, but Ash doesn't let him, and
- 20:11Speaker 1: then they both kind of like laugh a little because
- 20:13Speaker 1: they're cute. Then we cut to Arthur saying what and
- 20:16Speaker 1: he's in the bargain with his gang people and one
- 20:19Speaker 1: of the guys says, they got Clyde from the Quasars. Wow,
- 20:22Speaker 1: that's a weird name for a game. And another guy says, boss,
- 20:25Speaker 1: what do we do? Arthur slams his fist on the
- 20:28Speaker 1: bar and he's like, I know, and he thinks he's
- 20:31Speaker 1: got that gulloble boy with him. How come he keeps
- 20:34Speaker 1: getting away? Jeez. We then go to a really tough
- 20:38Speaker 1: looking but horribly terrified dude against a brick wall in
- 20:43Speaker 1: a dimly lit area has like a greenish glow to
- 20:46Speaker 1: the scene. It's pretty cool, and we hear Ash say
- 20:50Speaker 1: did you have fun hunting down my boy's Waxy? This
- 20:54Speaker 1: intensifies Waxy's terrified look and I think they're in an
- 20:58Speaker 1: alley by the way, Waxy says, please forgive me, Arthur
- 21:03Speaker 1: made me do it. Ash, who looks kind of resigned,
- 21:08Speaker 1: sad maybe, says, you shot my friends while they pleaded
- 21:12Speaker 1: for their lives the same way you are. He raises
- 21:15Speaker 1: his gun, Waxy gasps, and Ash just shoots him in
- 21:19Speaker 1: the head. Fuck And then we see that the rest
- 21:23Speaker 1: of the gang is there too, and it looks like
- 21:26Speaker 1: they have some other people from Waxy's gang with them,
- 21:30Speaker 1: and Alex says, what do we do about the others?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Ashes like, kill him, don't ask me again. He pulls
- 21:39Speaker 1: up his hood and he starts to walk away. Alex
- 21:41Speaker 1: looks pretty surprised and he's like, oh okay. One of
- 21:45Speaker 1: the guys says, please Ash, save me, but Ash just
- 21:49Speaker 1: continues to walk away as his guys just fucking shoot
- 21:52Speaker 1: them all. We get a close up of Ash as
- 21:55Speaker 1: he walks and he looks just so emotionally distant, and
- 22:00Speaker 1: he thinks, I really am becoming a murderer. He kind
- 22:04Speaker 1: of winces and looks down at his hand, which he
- 22:06Speaker 1: imagines has just like a ton of blood on it,
- 22:09Speaker 1: and he thinks, who am I. We cut to a
- 22:14Speaker 1: street light with a moth fluttering by it, and then Ag,
- 22:18Speaker 1: who is sitting in one of the beds reading and
- 22:22Speaker 1: he hears the door open and looks up. Ash walks
- 22:25Speaker 1: in and says, you're still up. AG's like, welcome back.
- 22:29Speaker 1: You're out late these days. Ash sits at the edge
- 22:33Speaker 1: of the bed, kind of slouched, and he says, I've
- 22:36Speaker 1: got stuff to do. I'm beat. AG looks kind of concerned.
- 22:42Speaker 1: He says, there's blood on your shirt. Ash looks down
- 22:46Speaker 1: and sees the blood splatter on his stomach and he
- 22:49Speaker 1: covers it with his hand. He looks so fucking hurt,
- 22:55Speaker 1: and he says, what are you trying to say? Ag
- 22:58Speaker 1: places his phone on the bed, and it has an
- 23:01Speaker 1: article from the New York Herald open and the headline reads,
- 23:05Speaker 1: Execution and violence continue to intensify in ongoing conflict between
- 23:10Speaker 1: street gangs. AG says, did you do this? It says
- 23:15Speaker 1: that the victims had thrown down their weapons but were
- 23:18Speaker 1: still shot precisely between the eyes. I don't want to
- 23:21Speaker 1: believe it, but only you could do something like that.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Ash says, so what, and AGI's like, so what, why
- 23:31Speaker 1: are you doing this? He gets up, You're not the
- 23:34Speaker 1: kind of guy who chewed an unarmed person, And Ash says,
- 23:39Speaker 1: who do you think I am? I told you I'm
- 23:41Speaker 1: a murderer. They shot my friends to save themselves. They're
- 23:45Speaker 1: paying for what they did. AG's like, sure, the strong
- 23:49Speaker 1: can say that, but not everyone has a talent like yours,
- 23:52Speaker 1: and Ashes like a talent for what killing. Ag looks hurt,
- 23:59Speaker 1: and he says, what do you keep saying that you're
- 24:01Speaker 1: not like other people? You don't get how unngifted people feel. Fuck? Agy,
- 24:06Speaker 1: don't say those things. And Ash is clenching his fists
- 24:09Speaker 1: as Age's saying this, and he stands and he's like,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I've had it with you. You want to let them
- 24:14Speaker 1: run free so they can kill us. It's not about reasoning.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Power is everything. That's the world I live in. What
- 24:20Speaker 1: would you know about that? And there's a long pause
- 24:24Speaker 1: and AG says, I don't. I'd probably be dead now
- 24:28Speaker 1: if I lived in your world, but I have to
- 24:30Speaker 1: say it. You're not being yourself right now, not the
- 24:34Speaker 1: Ash that skip shorter and I know, okay, that really
- 24:39Speaker 1: shocked and hurt Ash. And he doesn't say anything. He
- 24:43Speaker 1: just grabs his jacket and he turns to leave, and
- 24:45Speaker 1: AG says, where are you going? Ash stops and says,
- 24:50Speaker 1: you said I don't get how unngifted people feel, but
- 24:52Speaker 1: you understand how I feel. Ag like kind of gasps,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and Ash continues, I never wanted this gift, not once
- 25:00Speaker 1: in my entire life, and he just kind of runs
- 25:03Speaker 1: out the door, and Age's like Ash and the door slams,
- 25:07Speaker 1: and AG kind of exhales and covers his face with
- 25:09Speaker 1: his hand. It's daytime outside the apartment building, and then
- 25:14Speaker 1: we see Kong and Bones ring in the apartment doorbell.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Ag opens it like panicked, and he's like, isn't Ash
- 25:20Speaker 1: with you? And Kng says boss, and AG's like, he
- 25:24Speaker 1: didn't come home last night. I want to apologize to him.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Bone says, apologize why, and AG's like we got into
- 25:33Speaker 1: a little fight, and Bones and Kong together say you
- 25:36Speaker 1: fought with boss. Ag looks so confused, like there's literally
- 25:40Speaker 1: a question mark next to his head, and Bones is like, damn,
- 25:43Speaker 1: you got balls. Next, we see the exterior of the
- 25:48Speaker 1: New York Public Library, specifically the stephen A. Schwartzman Branch,
- 25:52Speaker 1: which is the main branch of the New York Public
- 25:55Speaker 1: Library at four seventy six Fifth Avenue. He is gorgeous, guys,
- 25:59Speaker 1: really really fucking gorgeous, and I have never been in there,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and I would like to go. We hear Kanan say
- 26:05Speaker 1: Boss comes here a lot when he wants to be alone,
- 26:08Speaker 1: and we see that Ag and Bones and Kan of
- 26:11Speaker 1: walked inside, and Bones and Kan kind of like wave
- 26:14Speaker 1: Ag off, and we continue this voiceover and Bone says,
- 26:18Speaker 1: I wouldn't go if I were you. He hates being interrupted.
- 26:21Speaker 1: And we see Age walking up the stairs and we
- 26:24Speaker 1: hear him say, I know, but I'm going wish me luck.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Now we see Ash sitting at one of the many
- 26:31Speaker 1: long tables in the Rose reading Room, and he's got
- 26:33Speaker 1: a bunch of books and he's obviously reading a book,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and Ag is just kind of looking on silently, and
- 26:38Speaker 1: he walks over and says, hey, Ash looks up and
- 26:43Speaker 1: AG says, you knew I was here. Don't pretend like
- 26:46Speaker 1: you didn't. Oh. He knows his hyper vigilance really well.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Ash just like huffs and turns away, and Age thinks, yep,
- 26:55Speaker 1: still mad, and he sits and says, sorry about last night.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I shouldn't have said all that, and Ashes, like Japanese
- 27:03Speaker 1: are quick to apologize. Huh, eBay apologize too. Oh Agy
- 27:09Speaker 1: stands and he's like, you spoke to him, and everyone
- 27:12Speaker 1: turns and shushes him. So I think it's really interesting
- 27:15Speaker 1: that Ash is safe space is a public library also
- 27:18Speaker 1: not that interesting. It's perfect, is what it is. I'm
- 27:22Speaker 1: sure that you are aware, maybe that it's pretty common
- 27:26Speaker 1: for homeless people and children who have had a rough
- 27:29Speaker 1: time in their homes to seek refuge in the public
- 27:32Speaker 1: library because you know it's climate controlled. You're allowed to
- 27:37Speaker 1: be there without buying anything obviously, because you don't buy
- 27:40Speaker 1: things in a library, and you can stay there for
- 27:43Speaker 1: a long time without being suspicious. So the idea that
- 27:47Speaker 1: this former homeless kid is seeking refuge in a library
- 27:52Speaker 1: makes like perfect sense to me. And I loved that
- 27:55Speaker 1: that is in there. Also, I've been thinking about Max
- 27:58Speaker 1: said to Ash and maybe, like Pisode three, he said
- 28:02Speaker 1: something like that Ash isn't anything like his brother, because
- 28:04Speaker 1: his brother was a quiet poet, and I actually think
- 28:07Speaker 1: Ash is a lot more like that than Max, at
- 28:10Speaker 1: least believed at that time. In this situation where he
- 28:14Speaker 1: was upset with everything, I mean with ag his thought
- 28:18Speaker 1: was like not to go out and like blow off
- 28:20Speaker 1: steam at like a bar or something. It was to
- 28:22Speaker 1: like read some books in a library. And I mean,
- 28:27Speaker 1: we know that he's read kind of like weird obscure
- 28:29Speaker 1: newspapers before, but we also missed this really cool part
- 28:33Speaker 1: of the manga, like way back when Ash had given
- 28:37Speaker 1: doctor Meredith banana Fish to research and figure out what
- 28:40Speaker 1: it was, and doctor Meredith was like, oh, banana Fish,
- 28:44Speaker 1: that's like a JD. Salinger novel, and then he said
- 28:47Speaker 1: something like, I'm sure you don't read any of that
- 28:49Speaker 1: stuff though, And Ash's response is basically like, no, I
- 28:54Speaker 1: wasn't into Sallenger, like I was more into hemingway more
- 28:57Speaker 1: or less. So right then we were already getting an
- 29:00Speaker 1: idea that this character isn't going to be so straightforward.
- 29:04Speaker 1: But yeah, anyway, public libraries are cool, I guess, especially
- 29:11Speaker 1: if you are a nineteen eighties or twenty tens I
- 29:15Speaker 1: guess delinquent murderer. Now we see them in like a
- 29:19Speaker 1: food truck hot dog place, and Ash holds out a
- 29:24Speaker 1: hot dog to Ag and it has like a ton
- 29:26Speaker 1: of toppings on it, and he says, eat up. It's
- 29:29Speaker 1: an American NATO dog. AG makes some sort of discontented noise.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Next we see the skyline across the water and the
- 29:41Speaker 1: sun is low, So I guess they're on the New
- 29:43Speaker 1: Jersey side, maybe of the Hudson, I assume. And we
- 29:47Speaker 1: hear AG say do you come here often? They're kind
- 29:52Speaker 1: of standing against the railing near the river somewhere, and
- 29:58Speaker 1: it's kind of windy, and ashe says, sometimes when I
- 30:03Speaker 1: feel like seeing what the place where I live looks like.
- 30:05Speaker 1: AG says about last night. Being a good friend is
- 30:10Speaker 1: about saying what you really feel, even if it's painful.
- 30:14Speaker 1: But I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry. Ash says,
- 30:19Speaker 1: I know I lashed out because what you said was true.
- 30:23Speaker 1: We cut back two Black Sabbath's Hangout, which is either
- 30:26Speaker 1: the coolest name for a gang or the stupidest, depending
- 30:28Speaker 1: on how you feel, and Arthur is there. He and
- 30:33Speaker 1: Kan are sitting at a table and Arthur says he
- 30:36Speaker 1: came here too, and Kane's like, yeah, but he came alone.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Arthur kind of chuckles. I guess he's confident in himself
- 30:44Speaker 1: and he says that's because he's not afraid of Diye.
- 30:47Speaker 1: So here's the deal. We go to a nicely lit,
- 30:51Speaker 1: expensive looking bar where Ash and Kin are sitting next
- 30:55Speaker 1: to each other, and Kin looks like normal Kine with
- 30:58Speaker 1: the vest and no shirt and Ashes dressed for very
- 31:00Speaker 1: nicely with glasses and how he looks when he goes out,
- 31:03Speaker 1: when he's trying not to be noticed. And Kin says,
- 31:07Speaker 1: he wants to have a fair fight with you. He
- 31:09Speaker 1: asked me to be the observer. And Ash says, tell him,
- 31:12Speaker 1: I accept. Kin's like, really, you know it's a trap, right,
- 31:17Speaker 1: Ash says, yeah, but I want have to kill meaninglessly anymore.
- 31:20Speaker 1: He takes off his glasses. Ever since we first met,
- 31:23Speaker 1: I knew this day was gonna come eventually. Kin kind
- 31:26Speaker 1: of like chuckles, and he says, it's your call. I'll
- 31:30Speaker 1: accept the post. We go to Max, who is looking
- 31:33Speaker 1: at a picture of Senator Kippard and he says, this
- 31:36Speaker 1: is William Kippard. We're like in an office, like a
- 31:39Speaker 1: home office of some sort. Maybe Max is I don't understand.
- 31:42Speaker 1: We're somewhere, and Max is at a desk, which is
- 31:46Speaker 1: why I think it's an office, and Ash is like
- 31:48Speaker 1: seated at a window seat for like bay windows, which
- 31:51Speaker 1: is super nice and I wish I had bay windows.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Max says, this big shot congressman was there. Ash is like,
- 31:58Speaker 1: and get a load of this dad. He shows him
- 32:01Speaker 1: a picture of Arthur smiles, and Max is like the
- 32:03Speaker 1: White House chief of staff, so and Ash cuts him off.
- 32:08Speaker 1: The Middle East, Max says, you're probably right. We get
- 32:14Speaker 1: some sort of world map images here that are like
- 32:18Speaker 1: not great. I mean, they're not bad, but this is
- 32:20Speaker 1: obviously to save animation budget. So throughout this scene and
- 32:23Speaker 1: explaining we're getting like lots of images of world maps
- 32:25Speaker 1: where like things are and like pictures on the world
- 32:29Speaker 1: map of people that they're talking about. It's really not
- 32:31Speaker 1: that great. I don't really like this, but I'd barely
- 32:35Speaker 1: even noticed it the first time because I was reading
- 32:37Speaker 1: all of the subtitles. So it's fine. Whatever they needed
- 32:40Speaker 1: to save money, I understand. Anyway, Max says, the government's
- 32:45Speaker 1: strong measures in the Middle East have been an issue.
- 32:47Speaker 1: The guy held responsible for all this was Colonel Thomas Holstock,
- 32:51Speaker 1: which we've also met in charge of Middle Eastern affairs,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and the men backing him up were kipperd and smiles.
- 32:59Speaker 1: So what's your take from all this? And Ash says,
- 33:04Speaker 1: the government has to take a strong stance against the area,
- 33:06Speaker 1: but they don't want to send in troops. So how
- 33:09Speaker 1: do they legally intervene while pretending to help them out?
- 33:13Speaker 1: A military coup? Deta, I get terrorists to overthrow the
- 33:16Speaker 1: current government, and the new government asks the US military
- 33:19Speaker 1: for support. America's objective is to establish a public state
- 33:22Speaker 1: in the Middle East. Of course, normally that would be
- 33:25Speaker 1: impossible to execute, but with the help of the horrific
- 33:28Speaker 1: Banana fish, it'd be like taking candy from a baby.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Max says, say, you're right about this. Where does the
- 33:35Speaker 1: mafia come in? And we see like an image of
- 33:39Speaker 1: the globe and some money again, yay, I know you're
- 33:42Speaker 1: saving budget. It's fine, Ash continues with money. Of course,
- 33:49Speaker 1: government leaders would never invest in such a precarious project.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Afghanistan harvests ninety percent of all the heroin distributed in
- 33:56Speaker 1: the world. I look that up. By the way, Afghanistan
- 33:59Speaker 1: is respond for about eighty five percent of heroine supply,
- 34:03Speaker 1: So wow, and I assume we're talking about Afghanistan here,
- 34:06Speaker 1: and it just has a chaon it for some weird reason,
- 34:09Speaker 1: so that they could have a fictional country and it
- 34:11Speaker 1: wouldn't be weird whatever. Anyway, Ask continues, if they could
- 34:16Speaker 1: obtain all of that, and Max says, they'd be the
- 34:19Speaker 1: de facto leaders in the black market. Huh. Ash is like,
- 34:23Speaker 1: and it's possible if the US is behind them, realistic, right,
- 34:26Speaker 1: Max says, do you realize how huge this is? Ash says,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I'm just telling you how it is. I know from
- 34:34Speaker 1: personal experience how vulgar politicians can be. What they do
- 34:37Speaker 1: to boys as young as their sons and grandsons. Shit,
- 34:42Speaker 1: if you ask me, the White House is full of shit.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Max makes a sad, discontented noise and Ask continues, somebody's
- 34:50Speaker 1: got to let the world know that this is the
- 34:52Speaker 1: reality we live in. Jeez. Max says that goal scene.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I'll go and collect it evidence. Ash is like, right, go,
- 35:03Speaker 1: He's like getting ready to head out and walking to
- 35:05Speaker 1: the door. Max says, how's age you doing? Ash stops
- 35:10Speaker 1: and says, same as always? Why? Max is like, innocence
- 35:14Speaker 1: can be more dangerous than guns sometimes? Probably not? Did
- 35:18Speaker 1: you tell him he's leaving tomorrow, right, Fuck, it's already tomorrow.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Ash says, not yet. Ash. Max is like, well, you're
- 35:29Speaker 1: running out of time. Ash says, I know that. Max
- 35:33Speaker 1: is like, you have a brain that works like a computer,
- 35:36Speaker 1: but you can't think straight when it comes to him. Huh.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Ash is blushing slightly now, and he says, shut up,
- 35:41Speaker 1: it's none of your business. He opens the door, but
- 35:45Speaker 1: then stops again and says hey. He turns back to Max.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Max looks kind of confused. Ash continues, would you keep
- 35:53Speaker 1: working on this even if I died? What? Max is like,
- 36:00Speaker 1: why are you saying that? Ash thinks better of it,
- 36:03Speaker 1: and he's like, it's it's nothing, forget it. Later he leaves.
- 36:08Speaker 1: We now go to the front of the fifty ninth
- 36:11Speaker 1: Street apartment building and it's all like decorated and lit
- 36:14Speaker 1: up for Halloween. Yeah, it's Halloween time, guys, in the
- 36:18Speaker 1: anime and in real life. Sort of. I think you
- 36:21Speaker 1: still have a week listening to this, but it's coming soon.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Ash opens the door to the apartment. It's kind of dark,
- 36:28Speaker 1: it's like in the hallway, and he walks inside and
- 36:31Speaker 1: he opens the door to I guess the living room,
- 36:34Speaker 1: and he looks in horrified of whatever he sees. And
- 36:40Speaker 1: we hear Ag and Bone say, hey, welcome home, Ash.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Oh my god, that is so many jack o lanterns
- 36:47Speaker 1: and pumpkins. That is so mean. Oh my god. Ag
- 36:51Speaker 1: Ag is wearing a witch hat and a cloak, and
- 36:53Speaker 1: Bones has on like some maybe like wolf costume. He's
- 36:56Speaker 1: got like a hood with like wolf ears and like
- 36:58Speaker 1: a tail, and he looks so adorable. Bones is totally
- 37:02Speaker 1: adorable guys all the time, but especially right now. Ash
- 37:07Speaker 1: is kind of freaking out, and he's like, what's with
- 37:09Speaker 1: all the pumpkins? Age. He's like, come on, it's Halloween,
- 37:12Speaker 1: and he kind of winks geez. Agy Kung is dressed
- 37:16Speaker 1: up as Frankenstein too, And then we see like an
- 37:18Speaker 1: assortment of baked goods and like maybe like a roasted chicken,
- 37:22Speaker 1: and Ag says, this one's from our neighbor, miss Coleman,
- 37:25Speaker 1: and this one's from missus Owen's downstairs, and Ash is like,
- 37:29Speaker 1: your buddy's with the housewives here, and Ag says, we
- 37:33Speaker 1: meet at the supermarket downstairs all the time and we
- 37:36Speaker 1: became friends. Ag has like a pumpkin on his head
- 37:40Speaker 1: and he's kind of like getting way too close to
- 37:43Speaker 1: Ash for Ash to be comfortable with someone with a
- 37:45Speaker 1: pumpkin on his head, and he keeps like having a
- 37:47Speaker 1: back away, and Ash says, stay away or I'll cry Gez.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Oh my god, they're traumatizing this poor child. Ag and
- 37:57Speaker 1: Bones both have pumpkins on their heads now and they
- 37:59Speaker 1: go triggers poor Ash. We cut to I guess a
- 38:04Speaker 1: little bit later because Bones and Kung are sleeping on
- 38:07Speaker 1: the couch. Specifically, Bones is like laying on Kongs. It's
- 38:11Speaker 1: like really cute, and Ag is like drinking something from
- 38:15Speaker 1: a can and Ash says, hey, do you have a girlfriend?
- 38:21Speaker 1: Ag is kind of startled and he's like, why did
- 38:23Speaker 1: you just ask me that out of nowhere. I guess
- 38:27Speaker 1: it's something you need to know. You need to know
- 38:29Speaker 1: if your boyfriend also has a girlfriend. And Ash says,
- 38:33Speaker 1: why not you have one back home? Right? He's like,
- 38:36Speaker 1: of course not. I bet the girls like you though,
- 38:40Speaker 1: and Ash says yeah. AG's like sweating a little and
- 38:44Speaker 1: he says thought so, and he kind of like laughs
- 38:47Speaker 1: and he thinks, you little lot. Ag. Anyway, Ash continues,
- 38:53Speaker 1: everyone wants to be the Boss's girl, not that I
- 38:55Speaker 1: give a damn about them. But there was this one
- 38:58Speaker 1: girl that I really liked when I was four. AG's like, really,
- 39:03Speaker 1: how far did you get with her? Ash says, nowhere.
- 39:06Speaker 1: She died. She was murdered. Someone thought she was my girlfriend.
- 39:11Speaker 1: I couldn't save her. Oh, that's a way to bring
- 39:15Speaker 1: the conversation down. He looks terrible by the way Ag
- 39:19Speaker 1: is staring at him. He kind of didn't realize this
- 39:22Speaker 1: was gonna go this way tonight, and Ash says, feeling
- 39:28Speaker 1: bad for me again. AG looks down and says, yeah, Ash,
- 39:34Speaker 1: just like the world won't let me mingle with normal
- 39:36Speaker 1: people anymore. A She's like, if my being here is
- 39:40Speaker 1: a burden to you, and Ash says, no, that's that's
- 39:43Speaker 1: not it. He puts his hand on his head and
- 39:46Speaker 1: he's kind of blushing a little bit. He says, let's
- 39:49Speaker 1: forget it. I don't want to fight for tonight. No
- 39:52Speaker 1: more gangs in warfare and they kind of clink cans
- 39:56Speaker 1: and Adie says, yeah, you should probably tell him that
- 40:01Speaker 1: you're sending him away by the way, Ash. We cut
- 40:05Speaker 1: to black and we hear a phone vibrating, which is
- 40:09Speaker 1: a weird thing to say that you can hear a
- 40:11Speaker 1: phone vibrating, but you can't obviously. And then we see
- 40:15Speaker 1: Ash picking up the phone and he says, yeah, it's me.
- 40:19Speaker 1: There's a pause. He says, okay, he puts the phone down.
- 40:24Speaker 1: At this point, the ending theme starts up. Ash is
- 40:27Speaker 1: still in the living room, sitting quietly as Age sleeps
- 40:31Speaker 1: on the couch, and he just kind of sits there
- 40:35Speaker 1: motionless for a minute, clearly upset, and then he heads
- 40:39Speaker 1: outside outside of the apartment building. He puts on his
- 40:43Speaker 1: sunglasses and walks off into the dark city. Then we
- 40:47Speaker 1: go to the title card to have and have Not,
- 40:51Speaker 1: and then we go to the ending theme for the
- 40:53Speaker 1: first time in weeks. Finally, Yeah, and that's it, So
- 41:01Speaker 1: we did it. Closing thoughts, there are a couple of
- 41:04Speaker 1: things I wanted to talk about that he didn't feel
- 41:06Speaker 1: like there was a spot to interrupt, So I'll say
- 41:10Speaker 1: this first, because it's just not really that important. We
- 41:13Speaker 1: like lost a scene here when Max was showing Ash
- 41:16Speaker 1: the picture of Senator Kippard and they were kind of
- 41:19Speaker 1: talking about all of this stuff. I mean, obviously it's
- 41:22Speaker 1: different in the manga because it's not the same war
- 41:24Speaker 1: or the same part of the world anymore. But that's
- 41:27Speaker 1: totally irrelevant for what I'm about to say. Anyway, Max
- 41:31Speaker 1: says something about Senator Kippard and is like, oh, I
- 41:34Speaker 1: bet he's really like well off and Ash says, yeah,
- 41:37Speaker 1: he has a house in Florida, and Max is like,
- 41:40Speaker 1: why do you know that? And of course it's because
- 41:44Speaker 1: he was one of Ash's clients. And it's like this
- 41:48Speaker 1: whole incredibly awkward scene where like Ash is like kind
- 41:53Speaker 1: of delighting and making Max uncomfortable. And it's sad that
- 41:57Speaker 1: we lost it because a it's good to know Kippard's
- 42:00Speaker 1: involvement because we're gonna see more later, so it's nice
- 42:03Speaker 1: to know it early. And it just kind of shows
- 42:06Speaker 1: Max and Ash's relationship really nicely in a way that
- 42:09Speaker 1: we don't see it very often. So I hate that
- 42:11Speaker 1: we lost it. I know it's not super important, but
- 42:13Speaker 1: I miss it. So that's the first thing. So if
- 42:18Speaker 1: you remember last week, there was that whole scene where
- 42:22Speaker 1: Ash was buying guns from Fly and he paid him
- 42:24Speaker 1: with the jade earring and Ag asked like, where did
- 42:27Speaker 1: you get that from? And he said it was a
- 42:29Speaker 1: gift and AG asked from who, and he wouldn't tell him,
- 42:32Speaker 1: and he kind of like blushed. I was thinking about
- 42:35Speaker 1: that specific scene while I was watching the scene in
- 42:38Speaker 1: this episode where Ag asks how he got the apartment
- 42:43Speaker 1: and he won't tell him, and Ag eventually is like, well,
- 42:48Speaker 1: you know, I know, you're just protecting me, And I
- 42:50Speaker 1: guess that makes sense, except it doesn't at all, because
- 42:54Speaker 1: we know how Ash got the money. Dino knows how
- 42:56Speaker 1: Ash got the money. It's not like Dino is gonna
- 42:59Speaker 1: go to the cops because dirty money. So really there's
- 43:01Speaker 1: no reason Age shouldn't be able to know. It's not
- 43:04Speaker 1: like he's gonna be interrogated or something. It's not like
- 43:07Speaker 1: it's really gonna do anything negative to him. So the
- 43:10Speaker 1: only thing I can come up with is that Ash
- 43:13Speaker 1: is afraid that it will change AG's view of him
- 43:17Speaker 1: because he would have to explain. He would have to
- 43:20Speaker 1: explain how intimate he was with Dino and how Dino,
- 43:24Speaker 1: like I guess, lavished him with gifts and stuff and
- 43:30Speaker 1: kind of thinks of him like a lover sort of,
- 43:33Speaker 1: and that might lead AG to believe that Ash had
- 43:37Speaker 1: manipulated the situation, which is like so fucking stupid to
- 43:41Speaker 1: even think. Sorry everyone who thinks that, but I'm bringing
- 43:46Speaker 1: it up because we saw in last episode when he
- 43:49Speaker 1: was telling Max about all of this stuff and what
- 43:52Speaker 1: he did, Max basically called him the devil. And there's
- 43:55Speaker 1: another scene, well, there's a couple of pages in a
- 44:00Speaker 1: one shot manga that is supposed to be read after this,
- 44:03Speaker 1: but it's from the past where a character basically accuses
- 44:08Speaker 1: him of being a manipulator because he he's gone along
- 44:13Speaker 1: with this kind of stuff. So I don't think he
- 44:16Speaker 1: could handle ag thinking that too. If you remember, I've
- 44:20Speaker 1: talked about him fawning as a trauma response in the past,
- 44:26Speaker 1: and what he has done to survive really required him
- 44:31Speaker 1: to just go along with things in a way that
- 44:33Speaker 1: he didn't want to, so that he wouldn't you know,
- 44:38Speaker 1: he wouldn't be hurt even more than he was being hurt.
- 44:42Speaker 1: And from the outside I could see that looking like manipulation,
- 44:46Speaker 1: but it is really just a survival tactic for someone
- 44:49Speaker 1: who literally has no other options. If he fights, he
- 44:53Speaker 1: pretty much dies, you know. I mean, as we've heard
- 44:56Speaker 1: him say, happens to a lot of the other kids
- 44:59Speaker 1: in circumstance. So yeah, it's sad that he'd even think
- 45:06Speaker 1: that about himself, and that that's been put out there,
- 45:09Speaker 1: but it has been so yeah, I feel really really
- 45:12Speaker 1: bad about that. It's basically just too much for him,
- 45:15Speaker 1: I think, to have to explain that to AG. So
- 45:20Speaker 1: that's my thought process there. The other thing, besides the
- 45:25Speaker 1: fact that he's like not telling AG that he's gonna
- 45:27Speaker 1: send him back to Japan, which is probably not great,
- 45:30Speaker 1: but I get it, the other thing is that when
- 45:33Speaker 1: Ash was talking to AG after he murdered a bunch
- 45:37Speaker 1: of people, which is really not good, I think that
- 45:39Speaker 1: he actually brought up some pretty good points. Not that
- 45:42Speaker 1: I think that him murdering people is good. In fact,
- 45:45Speaker 1: it's pretty fucking scary. But I don't know what else
- 45:50Speaker 1: he is supposed to do. I really don't know what
- 45:54Speaker 1: else he is supposed to do in these situations. He
- 45:57Speaker 1: is no one that can help him. He is up
- 46:00Speaker 1: against two mafia's and he has fucking Arthur just sicking
- 46:07Speaker 1: gang members on him and apparently his friends. It sounds
- 46:10Speaker 1: like they've killed a bunch of his gang members. So
- 46:14Speaker 1: what is he supposed to do? Is he supposed to
- 46:16Speaker 1: go to the police. First of all, he's wanted, so
- 46:20Speaker 1: if he goes to the police, he's going to jail.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Second of all, When have the police ever helped him?
- 46:25Speaker 1: And I mean this very very seriously. He has had
- 46:29Speaker 1: terrible experiences with the cops, starting from when he was eight,
- 46:33Speaker 1: right when he was in Cape cod and then we
- 46:36Speaker 1: know that the cops in New York are corrupted, at
- 46:38Speaker 1: least some of them are. There was that Evenstein guy
- 46:42Speaker 1: from episode two, right, who obviously knew what was going
- 46:46Speaker 1: on with Ash. I still think he was a client.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I didn't say that to you before, so this still
- 46:52Speaker 1: doesn't make sense, but I think about it in my
- 46:53Speaker 1: head all the time. But you know, he knew stuff
- 46:57Speaker 1: was going on that he shouldn't have known. He was
- 46:59Speaker 1: taking money from Dino. He probably planted the gun at
- 47:02Speaker 1: the crime scene. And I know that there are cops
- 47:04Speaker 1: like Charlie who really care and really want the system
- 47:09Speaker 1: to work like it's supposed to work. But so far
- 47:12Speaker 1: we haven't seen him do any good. And I know
- 47:16Speaker 1: that he's trying, but he's working in a corrupt system,
- 47:19Speaker 1: you know, So who does he trust? Who does he
- 47:23Speaker 1: go to to save himself and the people around him,
- 47:26Speaker 1: Like literally, there is no one who can help, and
- 47:30Speaker 1: he's kind of up against the government a little bit now,
- 47:33Speaker 1: So I don't know what else he should have done,
- 47:37Speaker 1: And I don't like that it was just murder a
- 47:39Speaker 1: bunch of guys who put down their weapons, obviously, but
- 47:43Speaker 1: had he spared them, they would have just come for him. Again,
- 47:47Speaker 1: he is terrified all the time of what's going on,
- 47:53Speaker 1: and he just doesn't have anyone who can help, and
- 47:58Speaker 1: it's really fucked upsetting, honestly. So yeah, I just wanted
- 48:05Speaker 1: to put that out there. But he's still killing a
- 48:09Speaker 1: lot of people, which isn't great obviously. And also Age
- 48:15Speaker 1: talks about him having like a like a talent or
- 48:18Speaker 1: a gift or whatever. He doesn't really know the whole story.
- 48:24Speaker 1: I mean, Ash is obviously talented with a gun, but
- 48:28Speaker 1: there's more to it than that, so we're gonna find
- 48:30Speaker 1: that out as well in a few episodes. But yeah,
- 48:36Speaker 1: this was a rough one honestly. And then with the
- 48:38Speaker 1: stuff at the end with him almost having a girlfriend
- 48:43Speaker 1: and how he can't be around normal people anymore, like
- 48:47Speaker 1: he's so fucking isolated. It just sucks, man, It really
- 48:53Speaker 1: sucks because we know this is not the life he
- 48:55Speaker 1: would have chosen for himself if he had any real options,
- 48:58Speaker 1: you know. So now I'm really fucking sad. I think
- 49:03Speaker 1: that's pretty much it. So I'm gonna go and be
- 49:07Speaker 1: sad without you guys listening to me be sad, and
- 49:13Speaker 1: I will see you next week if you still exist.
- 49:17Speaker 1: So I hope you have a really good whatever later.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Weeps
