- 0:01Welcome to authentic living with Roxanne, a place where we have as conversations about
- 0:08things that really matter in our lives.
- 0:11And now here's your host, Roxanne Derhodge.
- 0:35Hi, everyone.
- 0:35It's, Roxanne Derhodge of authentic living with Roxanne.
- 0:38Thanks for tuning in again this week.
- 0:40Today I have a special glass, Matthew Ferrey.
- 0:43Hi, Matthew.
- 0:43How are you?
- 0:44Hello, Roxanne.
- 0:45Glad to be here.
- 0:47So, Matthew and I have been trying to get together to do this podcast for a while, and
- 0:51we're finally able to line up everybody's scheduled to do that.
- 0:56So Matthew brings, I'm gonna say a wealth of knowledge and space that, you know, speaks to,
- 1:05the authentic living perspective.
- 1:07And I'll read a little bit about Matthew, and then we'll jump into it and have a a great
- 1:11conversation.
- 1:13He is a spiritual teacher, a sound writer, and a best selling author.
- 1:16And for the last 26 years, he's coached thousands of top performance in a in the
- 1:21achievements, sorry, enlightenment, achieve enlightenment prosperity.
- 1:27His books, videos, audios, songs, and meditations, and seminars, all utilizes street
- 1:33tested methodology called the rapid enlightenment process.
- 1:38Well, I wanna know about that.
- 1:40And he's also the author of Quiet Mind Epic Life an Amazon's self help and spiritual
- 1:46bestseller in the US, Canada, Australia, and Japan.
- 1:50Matthew and his family live in Southern California.
- 1:52Yeah.
- 1:53I much prefer to be there today than in Niagara Falls Canada.
- 1:58Yes.
- 1:58Well, it is, I'm up I'm up in the mountains right now, so it's cold and and a different
- 2:03temperature.
- 2:04But, yeah, down in my, yeah, down in my beach area, it's much nicer.
- 2:08Oh, I'm sure.
- 2:09I'm sure.
- 2:10So So did you go to school to kind of take the path that you've taken, in your career?
- 2:18What what give me your story about what got you, you know, in this space?
- 2:23It started with having these really strange experiences when I was a kid about nine years
- 2:28where I felt like I was leaving my body, and I I didn't understand what it was.
- 2:32But I was experiencing such incredible bliss and peace that every time I went back into my
- 2:40body, I would, you know, burst into tears of dread.
- 2:45And it it took me on this path as a teen.
- 2:48I was looking for that state in all the wrong places, sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
- 2:53And then I I synced up with my father.
- 2:55My father is actually, a long time legendary self help leader in the real estate agency
- 3:03space.
- 3:04And, in my work with him, he began to turn me on to all of his mentors and it was that
- 3:11process by which, dealing with and trying to understand how do you get a person to perform
- 3:19that I was actually able to begin to understand how do I get myself to perform?
- 3:23How do I get back to that bliss state?
- 3:25How do I get to that that piece and that that flow that was so palpable for me when I was
- 3:31young.
- 3:33And it took many decades, but Here we are today.
- 3:37I have, over the years, developed a methodology.
- 3:40And like you read in my bio, it's street tested, meaning I didn't I didn't go to school.
- 3:45I didn't study.
- 3:46I didn't I didn't do any of that.
- 3:48I actually, was working with tens of thousands of people in either one on one sessions or
- 3:54group sessions working to see if I could get them to begin to do what they say they wanted
- 4:01to do, which turns out, you could either do that because you're angry that life is the way
- 4:07it is, or you can do that because you're inspired by what you want to do more more of an
- 4:13authentic path.
- 4:15And I gravitated towards that authenticity.
- 4:17Ultimately, I developed something called the rapid enlightenment process, which is a process
- 4:23by which over a very short period of time, your mind goes quiet and you have profound
- 4:28revelations of the oneness that we all are.
- 4:32Amazing.
- 4:32So your dad is Tom Perry?
- 4:36But that's my brother.
- 4:38My dad is Mike Ferrey, actually.
- 4:40My brother.
- 4:40Oh my god.
- 4:41Okay.
- 4:42So I gotta tell you this is so fun.
- 4:43Because I was looking at your name, and I kept saying is it's not fairies and Mike Fair.
- 4:47And I I kept getting stuck and, like, it's not Matthew.
- 4:50So I sold real estate I was, right out of university, 1st job.
- 4:57I don't know about the choice, but anyway, and your dad's trainings back then.
- 5:02Of course.
- 5:04That's amazing.
- 5:06Well, you know, you can imagine if you are if you're the the son of the of the real estate
- 5:12sales training guru, he, you know, he literally just kept feeding us books audios, seminars,
- 5:21consultants.
- 5:22I mean, we just we never stopped.
- 5:24And, ultimately, for me, And about 1999, I started to realize there's something else going
- 5:31on with me.
- 5:31I'm not I'm not jiving with this idea of make money just to make money or be successful just
- 5:39to be successful.
- 5:40I started to have these experiences where I was like, Well, what do I think that the money and
- 5:45the success is gonna give me?
- 5:46I think it's gonna give me more peace and flow and options and and prosperity, and I I just
- 5:53was pulled to why not have that experience now?
- 5:56And that really led me on a a much more of a spiritual path
- 6:01compared to the the sales training world, which is nothing or, obviously, people need to be
- 6:06connected in a into why they're doing what they're doing, but on a, you know, it's
- 6:11interesting because I, you know, went to school for psychology, went into sales, grew up in a
- 6:17sales family, And then I went back to grad school, and then I shifted out of sales, and
- 6:23then it ended up in, doing, you know, obviously, frontline work, and then ended up
- 6:27kind of in a combination of, business and, again, now the authenticity.
- 6:33So is it not interesting how that path kind of leads you regardless of your background?
- 6:38Yeah.
- 6:38I I find that people like you and I are, we can't escape our own propensity to do inner
- 6:46work and discover the way to experience the most satisfaction possible in our lives.
- 6:52And and that's unique.
- 6:54It's what I find is that when I try to speak to someone about externalized, a satisfaction,
- 7:02optimizing the environment and making a lot of money.
- 7:06It always leads me back to and you'll be there and your life still suck because you'll suck on
- 7:11the inside.
- 7:12So now we're in trouble.
- 7:14So I'm curious.
- 7:15Let's go back to the nine year old because I'm gonna say, you know, that nine year old had
- 7:20something figured out that most, I think most children, and I don't know if you would agree
- 7:26with this, Matthew, come into it with that space.
- 7:29And what happens is not life kinda knocks it out of them.
- 7:32And then they, you know, either go into, you know, a situation where they have to kinda have
- 7:38that conversation with themselves about where am I going, and they either go left or right.
- 7:44So let's talk about that nine year old in he was experiencing.
- 7:47Like you said, where you drop back into your body and you said, I don't like this.
- 7:51What is that?
- 7:53Yeah.
- 7:55Well, I think that the that that that particular nine year old is, I mean, it's very
- 7:59accidental.
- 8:00Right?
- 8:00There wasn't I wasn't intentionally trying to do anything.
- 8:03But I would be reading books.
- 8:06I had asthma at the time, and my mom would make me these little makeshift asthma tents
- 8:11underneath the kitchen table.
- 8:13And so it's like blankets, a little bed underneath, the humidifier, a light, and a
- 8:18book.
- 8:19Right?
- 8:19And and, you know, that combination of things, the of the humidifier would just put me into
- 8:26these trance like states.
- 8:27I'm I'm recalling now.
- 8:28Right?
- 8:28I don't actually know.
- 8:29But these trance like states where all of a sudden I'd be looking at the book.
- 8:33And next thing you know, the book was a 100 feet below me.
- 8:35And so was my body and the table, and it just I'd go into these incredible, you know,
- 8:43existential states.
- 8:44And I think the thing for me was at that time, I I really recognized that the rules that we
- 8:52all follow are not real and that and that the rules themselves were limiters.
- 9:00And now I was 9.
- 9:01Right?
- 9:01What do you do about it?
- 9:02Nothing.
- 9:03And who can you tell?
- 9:03No one.
- 9:05But it it it really guided me and, you know, the the people who follow my work, called
- 9:12themselves spiritual hooligans.
- 9:15And, we're spiritual hooligans because we look at the playing field of of life and we look for
- 9:23those rules that actually limit our self expression and limit our creativity and limit
- 9:28our chutzpah and limit our joy and we intentionally break those rules.
- 9:33We're we're basically being hooligans.
- 9:35And, and I think that that the inspiration at 9 helped me to see that.
- 9:41Ultimately, I I would say if I had to sum up what I was experiencing at that time, I I sum
- 9:48it up in my book and I just say that enlightenment, is the recognition that the
- 9:54source of life for you is the source of life for everyone and everything.
- 9:57That we're all one thing expressing itself with infinite variety.
- 10:03Mhmm.
- 10:03And when you connect with that idea, So you just automatically, like, and you're more free.
- 10:13It's really, really powerful.
- 10:15Right.
- 10:15Because, you know, and then this is like something that I know I've experienced over and
- 10:20over again, like, in in kind of the path that I took.
- 10:22I I grew up in Trinidad, was a very connected small community, and it was all about that
- 10:28stuff.
- 10:29But as life goes, like you said, you kinda, you know, you go into the systems, and I went into
- 10:33the, you know, private school systems, academics, all those things.
- 10:36And so, you know, I you're you're from the lane.
- 10:39You either from the lane or you're in trouble.
- 10:41Right?
- 10:41And, so I found the lane quite early, and then kind of started to do things wrote, but at some
- 10:47point, you know, in your lives, because I always go with adversity, comes that reality
- 10:53that you gotta do something.
- 10:55And, you know, about 10 years ago was when I stopped you know, and started to reflect on
- 11:01things about what why am I doing what I'm doing?
- 11:04You know, even though I was, yeah, even though I was I I was in psychotherapy in those things,
- 11:10but there was other things in my life where eventually I started to, develop a practice of
- 11:15slowing down the things that I was teaching, I eventually, started to listen to to lots of
- 11:21things that allowed me to really come back into that space like you talk about to really you
- 11:26know, what what is my imprint gonna be like when I am no longer, and how am I gonna use the
- 11:32gifts that I've been given you know, to help those around me.
- 11:36And that's kinda when I made a a huge shift in my life.
- 11:40Yeah.
- 11:40For me, it it was it began with this idea that there was talking in my head that didn't care
- 11:48about me.
- 11:49And I called that talking the drunk monkey, and that was, you know, probably when I was twenty
- 11:53years older.
- 11:54So I I started to have this awakening to that my mind is not my friend.
- 12:00It doesn't care about me.
- 12:01It doesn't like me most of the time.
- 12:03It's incredibly judgmental.
- 12:06And it took me, the better part of a decade to really get a handle on the functionality.
- 12:11Like, what is the mind doing exactly?
- 12:14That then led to a breakthrough.
- 12:16I started following, a teacher named Doctor David Hawkins who wrote a book called Power
- 12:21Versus Force.
- 12:23And I was I was working on his muscle testing methodology.
- 12:28It was a a methodology based on applied kinesiology.
- 12:31And he was tracking the levels of consciousness.
- 12:34So he was a psychotherapist who became, obsessed with this muscle testing phenomenon
- 12:42and how it overlaid with, psychology and states of being.
- 12:47For me though, while that was interesting, what was far more interesting to me was that certain
- 12:53phrases or words or ideas strengthen the body.
- 12:57And certain phrases, words, or ideas weakened the body.
- 13:00And I began to draw a conclusion that the the phrases that strengthen your body typically
- 13:08imply that all is well.
- 13:11Mhmm.
- 13:11That life is good And the phrases that weakened the body typically implied some kind of
- 13:16survival state, and they weakened the body, and then they caused the mind to talk.
- 13:22So that if you began to optimize your life towards this, set of what I would call
- 13:28enlightened perspectives, perspectives that imply that all is well and strengthen the body,
- 13:34then suddenly your mind would go quiet because your mind talks when a threat is present, which
- 13:41is shocking for most people because they're like, my mind is always talking.
- 13:44And I and I say, I know a threat is always present, even though you're living a life where
- 13:49pretty much what's gonna kill you is what you eat and stressing out.
- 13:53Right.
- 13:535 flight or freeze, and most people live in state, Matthew.
- 13:56And, unfortunately, they're not aware, you know, that they're in that state and the
- 14:02opposite of that, and I'm gonna gonna sound very boo boo, but it's it's a lot if you really
- 14:07believe that, you know, we are infinite energy and we are 1, and we are all really that space
- 14:13of love, you're shifting.
- 14:15It's it's kinda like, you know, that Japanese, researcher that use the water.
- 14:19I don't know the actual name of it.
- 14:21Have you ever seen
- 14:22Of course.
- 14:22Yeah.
- 14:23The messages and water.
- 14:24Yeah.
- 14:25And and, you know, and then you'd be like, am I seeing these things, or is it really happening,
- 14:30right, that the power of words and, like you're saying, like, when, you know, this particular
- 14:36is a David Hawkins?
- 14:38Yeah.
- 14:38David.
- 14:38Yeah.
- 14:39David Hawkins.
- 14:40Yeah.
- 14:40And that the reality is that you can impact the strength and parts of your body versus or you
- 14:47can talk to water, and it can turn, you know, horribly, you know, into decrepit things, and
- 14:53then you can say fantastic things to water.
- 14:55And you get these phenomenal fractals of of of, you know, things that get created.
- 15:01You're like, how is this possible?
- 15:03Well, you might consider the ideas of entropy and entropy.
- 15:08So entropy is going to be that creative force that is driving us towards greater states of
- 15:17complexity, efficiency, empowerment and then entropy, of course, is the destructive force,
- 15:24which is degrading everything back to its base state.
- 15:27And certain certain ideas, though unprovable are strengthening.
- 15:35So for example, the idea that I am an infinite being while it might be woo woo, it certainly
- 15:42is unprovable.
- 15:43It is not its conjecture but what you'll find is, my life ends when I die is also you have no
- 15:52idea.
- 15:53You don't know either.
- 15:54Right?
- 15:54You you don't know either one, but the arrogant drunk monkey in our head is it pretends like
- 16:01it's the ruler of the universe.
- 16:03And that it knows what is right and wrong and good and bad, and it doesn't.
- 16:07They're all estimates.
- 16:08And so the method that I've developed contains within one of the components is this idea of
- 16:14let's let's just put them to the test.
- 16:16If if I can't prove it, does it at least strengthen me?
- 16:21Because if it strengthens me, then I go into a more free state because I'm empowered if it
- 16:27weakens me, then I go into a threat state and and now I am disempowered.
- 16:32And so for me, it was understanding the drunk monkey in my head.
- 16:37Then I began to figure out, well, what are what are these enlightened perspectives that imply
- 16:44that all is well.
- 16:45Then I, in that process, I began to discern that there's a collection of modes of
- 16:54motivation for thinking that get the drunk monkey to talk.
- 16:58And I called the I call these things the the, hidden motives to survive.
- 17:04And the hidden motives, greed, grudge, hatred victim, illogical rules, humble trader pride,
- 17:10greed, resistance, lazy, these, these motivations are in all of us.
- 17:17And when one of them is present, the mind talks.
- 17:21And when one of them is present, it implies that something is wrong and that you need to
- 17:25change something.
- 17:26It implies that you are in some way threatened and it weakens the system.
- 17:32So it's part of the method.
- 17:33You gotta be able to see the drunk monkey.
- 17:35You have to be able to see the hidden motives.
- 17:38You begin to connect with these enlightened perspectives And then the last thing is a a,
- 17:43you know, pretty typical thing that we all do in our psychological process, which would be to
- 17:49recontextualize So you you take the context of the situation, you turn it on its ear, and you
- 17:55find the way to to to experience it in a more strengthened empowered fashion.
- 18:01So recontextualization is the skill of describing the conditions and stances of your
- 18:07life in a way that creates an empowering reality for you.
- 18:10It's kinda like, if you're gonna make things up, you might as well make things up to feel
- 18:13good.
- 18:14Why not pick the good versus the bad?
- 18:16Right?
- 18:16Like, I mean,
- 18:16I I You're making up anyway.
- 18:19So is that the process that, tell us, is this does is that the kind of the description of the
- 18:24process that you developed?
- 18:26Yes.
- 18:26That's so that would be the rapid enlightenment process.
- 18:29Okay.
- 18:30And and the rapid alignment process very, very quickly gets people into a more peaceful quiet
- 18:38state.
- 18:39And then they experience all the things that that you like to talk about, the creativity,
- 18:43the hutzpah, the resourcefulness, the the authenticity, the bravery, the courage.
- 18:48Although that stuff just happens naturally when you transcend the illusion that you need to fit
- 18:54in or look good or be right or be smart or be a part of the group when you realize that none of
- 18:58those things are even important anymore.
- 19:01When you've seen what we've gone through in the last little while with the state that the world
- 19:05is in, what do you think has happened to the world around the uncertainty with the pandemic?
- 19:11Tell me your, you know, with your with your coaching and your speaking, what have you been
- 19:16experiencing based on what you just told me about process.
- 19:20100% of the clients that that we've been working with in our Ignite mastermind,
- 19:27specifically.
- 19:28That's the way the way that we work with people.
- 19:30100% of the people that we've been working with have experienced an acceleration during this
- 19:37breakdown.
- 19:38And and the reason being is that breakdown is the beginning of breakthrough.
- 19:43That the world itself is actually on track for an extraordinary leap in our consciousness, our
- 19:49kindness, our unity, our oneness, and what always precedes that in evolution is the fight
- 19:58back from the old.
- 20:00And we can see the virus, of course, is one thing, but the virus is really just one
- 20:04component of the shenanigans that are going on in the world and and what you see is a bunch of
- 20:10old people who are fighting for separateness and, and protectionism, and and they should do
- 20:18that.
- 20:19And then you have a bunch of young people who are like, this is BS.
- 20:23And they're just waiting for the old people to die off or they're waiting for them to, you
- 20:28know, move over, but we're seeing this tidal wave all around the world of people like you
- 20:34and I and our listener waking up and saying, oh, wow.
- 20:39I thought we were already on track for kindness and unity and oneness and love and cooperation
- 20:45turns out we aren't.
- 20:46I need to wake up and maybe do something about it.
- 20:49Right.
- 20:49And so you see the advertising and the and the grassroots movements to to really increase the
- 20:58amount of of unity and world level cooperation that are springing up and, of course, they're
- 21:04being massively opposed.
- 21:06And the virus is just what a what a phenomenal spark to bring this to light.
- 21:12So do we want the virus?
- 21:14Do we want people to die?
- 21:15No.
- 21:15Of course not.
- 21:17But break down is the beginning of breakthrough.
- 21:21They're the 2 they're the same thing.
- 21:22They're just a different place on the timeline.
- 21:25The breakthrough is common.
- 21:26Absolutely.
- 21:27So for people listening, right, like leaders and, you know, the average person that just
- 21:33listening and going, okay, Matthew.
- 21:35Okay.
- 21:36So, like, what do I do now?
- 21:37I've I've struggled with the, you call it the drunken monkey, right?
- 21:41Yeah.
- 21:42In my head.
- 21:42Yeah.
- 21:43Mine's the wrong mine's the wrong, pronunciation.
- 21:45The drunk monkey back then.
- 21:47I didn't I I I don't do well in English.
- 21:51You know, what do you tell them to do?
- 21:54Like, you know, because, you know, a lot of people, I have had people experience exactly
- 21:59what you're saying and they're they're enlightened and they're, you know, making
- 22:03connections at so much of a more found level and they're rethinking their values and their
- 22:08alignment.
- 22:08And then there's other people that are, you know, drinking more and getting in more
- 22:14destructive situations, all those things.
- 22:16Right?
- 22:16Those are also good situations to be in because they're leading to something.
- 22:20Yeah.
- 22:21But, you know, if we if we are talking to the person who is in a destructive state, you know,
- 22:26step 1 is embrace it.
- 22:29Embrace the destruction, embrace your your down cycle, and just admit, we all go up and down.
- 22:36We all have up cycles and down cycles, And if you're experiencing that right now, don't
- 22:41resist.
- 22:42Just be in it.
- 22:42Be be fully in it.
- 22:44Drink as much as you can.
- 22:46Be completely out of control and embrace the negativity because what you'll find is the
- 22:51fastest way to positivity is to embrace negativity.
- 22:56So and then deal with your worst case scenario.
- 22:59This is so these are these are coming from in my in my free app that our listener could
- 23:04download that is just my name, Matthew Ferrey.
- 23:07I give them a 23 day little daily practice, little bites that they can take on for 23
- 23:15straight days.
- 23:16And one of those daily practices is to actually accept the worst case scenario.
- 23:21Because what I find is is that negativity is the way to positivity and that if you just try
- 23:26and be positive on top of the negativity, it's like slathering a mud pie over the you know,
- 23:31ice cream over a mud pie, you still got a mud pie.
- 23:34And and it and you're like a you're like a rose garden with a sewer underneath.
- 23:37I mean, you look beautiful from far away.
- 23:39You're all positive.
- 23:40But when people get up close, they can really smell the seething cesspool.
- 23:44Mhmm.
- 23:45So you deal with the worst case scenario that you're that you're probably avoiding that is
- 23:51bringing resistance and negativity to you.
- 23:53You you actually address it You make a plan for it.
- 23:58You decide if the absolute worst horrific most nightmares thing happens to me.
- 24:03This is what I'm gonna do.
- 24:04ABC, D, and E.
- 24:06You don't try to avoid it.
- 24:07You actually say, this is my plan if it happens because typically there's something opposing
- 24:13underneath.
- 24:13You have something uh-uh that you're avoiding and that's driving this destruction.
- 24:18But once you do that, once you face the worst case scenario, what you'll find is it it it's
- 24:24like it just lets off some of the steam and you go into a much more peaceful state, which then
- 24:30opens up your creativity.
- 24:31And next thing you're like, well, wait a second.
- 24:33You know, do I really wanna go to that worst case?
- 24:35No.
- 24:36And you're and you've yeah.
- 24:37Suddenly you have some authentic creative moves that you can make.
- 24:41Absolutely.
- 24:41So going, you know, instead of resisting, just sit with it and, you know, make it exponential
- 24:48in sometimes, and that's, you know, that's an internalizing therapy technique you're talking
- 24:52about to some degree.
- 24:53Right?
- 24:54Like, make it worse, sit there, you know, and then, you know, and then when you realize
- 24:59another thing that sometimes is used is you have people flip a coin.
- 25:02It's some it's that simple.
- 25:04Right?
- 25:04And you say on the days that you get heads, you've gotta have a great day.
- 25:07On the days you have tails, but have a horrible day.
- 25:11Guess what happens?
- 25:13People come back and they go, having the horrible days it's too much work.
- 25:17I prefer the better days.
- 25:19Right?
- 25:20So it's interesting, you know, talking about that scenario because it intuitively, I think
- 25:24if you're able to sit in that space, you, you, you come to a different, recognition of what
- 25:29you're experiencing.
- 25:31But like you said, most people, they're they're hovering and they're not looking below to see
- 25:36what's perpetuating, things that need to be shifted.
- 25:39And I suspect that your listener is more geared towards looking internal and trying to discover
- 25:46what's going on with them.
- 25:48I think for the for the average person, you know, there's just so much complexity in what
- 25:54we get told to do.
- 25:57And what I have what I've always tried to do is just make it as simple as you possibly can.
- 26:01I mean, you you went to all my father's trainings as a real estate agent or listened to
- 26:05him, and, you know, I was trained to simplify everything.
- 26:10And my goal was to simplify these speed at which one could get to peace.
- 26:18Thus, the rapid enlightenment process.
- 26:20It sounds it sounds to me, Nava, I'm gonna to try it because it sounds
- 26:23Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna send you a book.
- 26:25So after we get done with this, I'll I'll I'll get your address and send you one.
- 26:30Fantastic.
- 26:31So this has been a pleasure, Matthew.
- 26:35What I want people to know is that change is possible.
- 26:39Right?
- 26:40And we all every single day that we open our eyes, we have the ability to make a formation.
- 26:46And things may seem difficult, but it it becomes incremental, or you can do it quickly,
- 26:51or you can kinda sit on it.
- 26:53You just have to decide.
- 26:54What am I gonna do?
- 26:55Today is a new day.
- 26:56I'm gonna make a a difference.
- 26:57So, Matthew, again, tell them where they can get this, download and for anywhere people that
