- 0:00Speaker 1: System is going live from the Whiskey sixty one Lounge
- 0:02Speaker 1: inside the Bank Plumb Studio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I'm in the studio.
- 0:06Speaker 3: It's the Bound Show.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Were Bound streaming live worldwide on the Out of Bounds Radio.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hand on your radio d N one oh five point
- 0:14Speaker 1: nine The Zone.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Not really, that's cool.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Great, that's a good one.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Not really.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Uh, we are the out of Bounds Show e s
- 0:49Speaker 3: p N one oh five nine The Zone. Kurt Signetti
- 0:52Speaker 3: is the Clint Eastwood of college football. He really is.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Not really, that's who he is. Kurt sing is the
- 1:00Speaker 3: Clint Eastwood of college football. You know, he's a dude
- 1:06Speaker 3: that kind of comes out of nowhere. You don't want
- 1:09Speaker 3: to mess with him, and you feel like he may
- 1:12Speaker 3: take you out.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Not really.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not sure that anybody came back from
- 1:16Speaker 3: summer vacation with Kurt Signetti.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Not really.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Yeah, he took an a sommer vacation.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I think he did. I think he did.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Now, I'm not gonna say that he wasn't out on
- 1:30Speaker 3: the back porch wherever they were, terrace or ocean or river.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:39Speaker 3: And while he's visiting with family, he's also thinking about
- 1:41Speaker 3: what are we going to do on third and four
- 1:43Speaker 3: in the red zone.
- 1:44Speaker 4: You think he's getting any like inside info from the
- 1:48Speaker 4: fam maybe what they would do.
- 1:49Speaker 3: No, I don't. I think his family is over the
- 1:54Speaker 3: moon that while he made more than solid money, yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 3: throughout his career, he's now making great grandkids money because
- 2:07Speaker 3: he's making thirteen maniars right, I'm talking about the in laws.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah, do the in laws that they did that.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I don't know about his in laws, but you know,
- 2:18Speaker 3: you could see. I don't think this would happen, but
- 2:21Speaker 3: we do. We're all around people that have no self awareness,
- 2:24Speaker 3: and it would be awesome if a son in law
- 2:29Speaker 3: walked up to him at the beach this summer and said, hey, coach,
- 2:36Speaker 3: I was thinking about what you could do if you
- 2:38Speaker 3: started the conversation like that. After going fifteen and oh
- 2:41Speaker 3: and winning a national championship, and now we feel like
- 2:44Speaker 3: he's a football savant, right, Yeah, there's no doubt that's happened. Well, no,
- 2:50Speaker 3: there is, but I wouldn't. I wouldn't be surprised either way.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Okay, he he started, uh, you know, big ten media
- 2:58Speaker 4: days obviously late July by saying, I've been on vacation
- 3:01Speaker 4: long enough. I'm tired of being bossed around by my wife.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I'm ready to ball somebody else around and develop a
- 3:06Speaker 4: football team.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Well, if anybody can do it in six weeks, it's
- 3:10Speaker 3: Kurt blank Signetti. He was in Satan Bart's nice. That's
- 3:16Speaker 3: a good spot to be. So he figured out a
- 3:19Speaker 3: nice play. Hey, when you got a private jet and
- 3:22Speaker 3: you're making thirteen million a year, you can go runt
- 3:24Speaker 3: An Island for a week or ten days and everybody
- 3:26Speaker 3: can have a good time.
- 3:27Speaker 4: You can have a personal chef and said he was
- 3:29Speaker 4: recognized unexpectedly.
- 3:31Speaker 3: That doesn't surprise me as much as you're on TV now,
- 3:36Speaker 3: I mean when you make that kind of run.
- 3:38Speaker 5: I know.
- 3:39Speaker 3: We didn't really wake up to him until this past year.
- 3:42Speaker 3: The first year they went to the college football play
- 3:43Speaker 3: Let's be honest, we thought, oh, that's cute and sweet
- 3:45Speaker 3: and fun. First year he went to the college football playoff,
- 3:49Speaker 3: got bounced. Okay, that was fun, Indiana, thank you for playing. Yes,
- 3:53Speaker 3: you know, almost like James Madison where he coached before.
- 3:57Speaker 3: You know, going to the college football playoff for Tulane.
- 3:59Speaker 3: You know, you're like, that's cute and sweet and fun.
- 4:01Speaker 3: But whatever. And then in year two he decides to
- 4:04Speaker 3: embarrass Alabama, embarrass Oregon, and beat Miami and go undefeated.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I don't know if we understand how historic or if
- 4:14Speaker 3: we've really thought about it, how historic and remarkable it is.
- 4:19Speaker 3: And was that Indiana did. Did Kurt Signetti and his
- 4:23Speaker 3: football staff did this in a short period of time
- 4:26Speaker 3: in year two on the campus of the University of
- 4:29Speaker 3: Indiana in Bloomington, Indiana, where you can't even name one
- 4:34Speaker 3: of their football players until Fernando Mendoza, And don't tell
- 4:38Speaker 3: me Michael Pennox until Fernando Mendoza was you know, goes
- 4:44Speaker 3: through and then even a lot of people didn't even know. Look,
- 4:47Speaker 3: there were people who sat down excited about the National
- 4:49Speaker 3: Championship Game and were like, who is that Federico Morales.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I mean, you just hadn't kept up. They knew, but
- 4:56Speaker 3: they didn't know. And then he's the number one pick
- 4:59Speaker 3: in the I mean, not only did he Indiana win it,
- 5:01Speaker 3: they had the number one pick in the NFL draft.
- 5:07Speaker 3: The reason they did win it one of the reasons, sure,
- 5:11Speaker 3: no question. Yeah, So you throw Michael Pennocks under the bus.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I did not well. He ended his career at at Washington.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Is the reason why I said that, I'm not throwing
- 5:25Speaker 3: Michael Pennocks under the bus for our listeners. He was
- 5:28Speaker 3: in Indiana and then Washington. Now he's just hanging out
- 5:33Speaker 3: washing Tua Atlanta Falcons, Baby Tua tonguea Baloa and and
- 5:38Speaker 3: Michael Pennocks going head to head. Boy, that's just delicious.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Let's go. I mean, what am I excited about in
- 5:45Speaker 3: the NFC South Tyler Tua, Tyler Shuck or Bryce Young?
- 5:55Speaker 3: Why you leave Baker out?
- 5:56Speaker 1: No?
- 5:56Speaker 3: Baker is some something because people either love or hate him. Yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 3: you know, he's kind of got that bad boy thing going.
- 6:03Speaker 3: He goes to did he go to did he go
- 6:09Speaker 3: to A and M before Oklahoma? Is that what it was?
- 6:12Speaker 3: Or do you go to Texas Tech? I can't even remember.
- 6:18Speaker 3: But didn't he go walk on the skye to Unbelievable
- 6:22Speaker 3: Player to take Oklahoma Tech to Oklahoma? Okay? Well Mahomes
- 6:31Speaker 3: went through Texas Tech? Was there an overlap there Jay
- 6:35Speaker 3: Meadows where Baker eventually went to Oklahoma and started and Mahon?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Of course, Cliff Kingsbury couldn't go more than like six
- 6:43Speaker 3: and six or seven and five with Patrick Mahomes in
- 6:47Speaker 3: a week week week Big Twelve. But evidently, according to
- 6:51Speaker 3: the numbers, Cliff Kingsbury is one hell of an offensive
- 6:55Speaker 3: coordinator play caller.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Mahomes started there in fourteen and he was out. He
- 6:59Speaker 4: started at Oklahoma in fourteen. So they were there, they
- 7:03Speaker 4: got they were maybe one was transitioning out, the other
- 7:07Speaker 4: one transitioning in.
- 7:09Speaker 3: So they played in the Big Twelve at the same time.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Oh cool. And I think Stoop that was
- 7:14Speaker 3: that was before Lincoln took over, So I think that
- 7:17Speaker 3: was still with Bob Stoops. Sure, okay, And I do
- 7:20Speaker 3: know that Cliff Kingsbury coach Mahomes at Texas Tech before
- 7:24Speaker 3: getting fired, but then somehow getting hired as the Arizona
- 7:27Speaker 3: Cardinals head coach and then and then that didn't work.
- 7:31Speaker 3: But as a play caller, he's sure. He looks good.
- 7:34Speaker 3: All right. You can get in touch with us on
- 7:36Speaker 3: the Dancing Rabbit golf text line six oh one eight
- 7:40Speaker 3: eight five, three, seven, seven six. Here's the deal with Indiana.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Your brain, in my brain has rejected what was happened,
- 7:47Speaker 3: what has happened, because that's how we are as sports fans.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I talk about it all the time. Right by sixteen,
- 7:53Speaker 3: this is give or take this is what you think
- 7:56Speaker 3: about sports. There's no wiggle room, hard headed males. This
- 8:00Speaker 3: is you know, this was my playing It's kind of
- 8:02Speaker 3: based off your playing career, who you played with, who
- 8:05Speaker 3: you know, kind of the teams that you liked whatever.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Breaking out of that is virtually impossible from sixteen to
- 8:12Speaker 3: ninety years old. So your brain wants to reject that
- 8:17Speaker 3: Indiana won the national championship, that the Big Ten has
- 8:21Speaker 3: won back to back to back national championships, and that
- 8:25Speaker 3: the SEC hasn't even had anybody in the championship game.
- 8:28Speaker 3: And the league's never been more watered down, and I
- 8:30Speaker 3: believe that it could be even more watered down this year.
- 8:34Speaker 3: It's never been a better time to win in the
- 8:36Speaker 3: Southeastern Conference. Bandy just went ten and two, Ole Miss
- 8:39Speaker 3: went eleven and one. Any other questions. Vanderbilt, the worst
- 8:46Speaker 3: recruiter by a good stretch, just went ten and two
- 8:52Speaker 3: and got snubbed in the College Football Playoff. The two
- 8:54Speaker 3: teams that were snubbed at the highest level according to
- 8:57Speaker 3: the numbers, Vanderbilt Notre Dame. Last year. Your thoughts, I'd
- 9:04Speaker 3: like to hear from you on the out of bounds
- 9:06Speaker 3: roll call. But do you agree that our brains have
- 9:10Speaker 3: rejected what has happened in college football and the fact
- 9:13Speaker 3: that the Indiana Hoosiers are the national champs. Not only
- 9:17Speaker 3: the champs, they were undefeated. It was not they smoked,
- 9:20Speaker 3: Obama embarrassed, Oregon beat Miami. These are I mean, Miami's
- 9:27Speaker 3: kind of They're a big brand, but they weren't good
- 9:31Speaker 3: for twenty years. Good team last year they did they
- 9:34Speaker 3: did find us on x at bo bounds. Tweet to
- 9:39Speaker 3: us at bo bounds and the michelob ultra coolar line
- 9:42Speaker 3: of six oh one seven zero seven thirty seven fifty.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Texting enrolls you into reoccurring or a bit to text message.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Oh wow. Well, we're dedicating this to one of our listeners.
- 10:24Speaker 3: We are the Out of Bounds Show ESPN one oh
- 10:27Speaker 3: five nine The Zone Mike Natilier coming up next eight thirty,
- 10:33Speaker 3: LSU Tigers Clemson Baton Rouge, Week one game Day Baton Rouge,
- 10:40Speaker 3: and UH Week three Jackson. We put the lines for
- 10:44Speaker 3: me police for LSU Clemson into l s U ol Miss.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Week one, LSU hosting Clemson game Day will be there
- 10:53Speaker 3: and then week three LSU at ole Miss game Day
- 10:57Speaker 3: will be there.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Can you En.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Saban's going to be up there Saturday morning in the grove,
- 11:03Speaker 3: in the grove, and he's already good, right, it doesn't
- 11:10Speaker 3: matter what game he's talking about. He's done his homework
- 11:13Speaker 3: and he is an exceptional analyst. And not all former
- 11:20Speaker 3: great coaches are, but Saban is, which almost makes you mad,
- 11:23Speaker 3: because he's a renaissance man. He's just it doesn't matter
- 11:27Speaker 3: what he does. He could be president of the United
- 11:29Speaker 3: States and he'd be more effective than the last six
- 11:33Speaker 3: of them. But one thing when you think about Saturday
- 11:38Speaker 3: morning in Oxford in the grove, Ole Miss hosting LSU,
- 11:44Speaker 3: is this, there's no one that they can talk to
- 11:48Speaker 3: that's more familiar with Pete Golding and Lane Kiffen than
- 11:54Speaker 3: Nick Saban. Pete Golden coached under Nick Saban coached under
- 12:01Speaker 3: And what's cool is one was on the defensive side
- 12:03Speaker 3: of the football and one was on the offensive side
- 12:05Speaker 3: of the football. And then, of course y'all all know
- 12:08Speaker 3: that Laye and Pete coached together. And now there's no
- 12:13Speaker 3: love loss between Ole Miss and Lane and LSU fans
- 12:18Speaker 3: just kind of shrugged their shoulders. They don't care. I mean,
- 12:21Speaker 3: you could tell by what Detillier said a month or
- 12:23Speaker 3: two ago. But it's gonna be delicious. It's gonna be
- 12:29Speaker 3: the forty ounce boneen Tomahawk of college football. And then
- 12:36Speaker 3: we all hope the game goes absolutely down to the wire. Now,
- 12:42Speaker 3: somebody on our text line just said, asked us on
- 12:47Speaker 3: the Dancing Rabbit Golf text line, bo, should I rent
- 12:50Speaker 3: my kind of for seven thousand dollars and sell my
- 12:54Speaker 3: five tickets for three thousand or go to the LSU
- 12:57Speaker 3: game in Oxford? Well? I would, I would rent and sell.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I mean, if you can get to I think you
- 13:04Speaker 3: can get more than that. But let's just say ten
- 13:06Speaker 3: thousand for what you're talking about, renting your condo and
- 13:10Speaker 3: selling your tickets for ten grand, absolutely taking good party.
- 13:16Speaker 3: And I know some of you are renting your your
- 13:18Speaker 3: spots for much more. But yeah, I would rent and
- 13:24Speaker 3: uh watch it from your house or from the beach,
- 13:29Speaker 3: and then bathe in the money and then there you go,
- 13:33Speaker 3: least bathe in the money, bathe in the money. Okay.
- 13:39Speaker 3: We also had William on the Dancing Rabbit Golf text
- 13:45Speaker 3: line asked a question. So I mentioned earlier that Steve Palazzolo,
- 13:50Speaker 3: our NFL Insider NFL podcast of the year. He joined
- 13:54Speaker 3: us on Friday. He was great on Drew Brees and
- 13:57Speaker 3: Mahomes and we love talking NFL quarter backs and sol
- 14:00Speaker 3: him he talked to Burrow and all that. But Steve Palazzolo,
- 14:05Speaker 3: he's six foot ten, played minor league baseball, got to
- 14:09Speaker 3: Triple A San Francisco Giants. He's been covering the NFL
- 14:14Speaker 3: for fifteen years. Had the NFL Podcast of the Year
- 14:17Speaker 3: a couple of years ago. He had four boys under ten,
- 14:23Speaker 3: and now his wife's pregnant and it's another boy. So
- 14:26Speaker 3: he's gonna have a basketball team either under ten or eleven,
- 14:30Speaker 3: which took us to voseectomies, which then William says, bo
- 14:34Speaker 3: I'm about to have my fourth kid in a few weeks.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Any doctor recommendations for a vasectomy, and so that's evidently
- 14:44Speaker 3: he's tapping out with almost of starting lineup in uh
- 14:49Speaker 3: Now you've got a doubles team in tennis. That's a win.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:54Speaker 3: I mean those little people when they get up whatever.
- 14:58Speaker 3: I don't know what to separate, but you know, if
- 14:59Speaker 3: you've got a four, six, eight, and ten, they can play.
- 15:03Speaker 3: You can match them up strength the you know, split
- 15:06Speaker 3: the two best players or oldest I don't even know how.
- 15:09Speaker 3: And then you've got two doubles teams. That's awesome sufficiency, Yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 3: making making them two pickleball team. I've never played pickleball,
- 15:19Speaker 3: but you've got two pickleball teams. Have you ever played pickleball?
- 15:22Speaker 4: Okay, I played real sports? Oh wow, trying to be
- 15:25Speaker 4: the best of exercise.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Okay, southbound and down pickleball? Oh wow? Pit.
- 15:33Speaker 4: No, it's gonna get out there and stretch a little bit.
- 15:37Speaker 4: But you'd played tennis. Yeah, okay, it's sport. It is
- 15:40Speaker 4: a real sport.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just I was watching the nadal uh Uh
- 15:46Speaker 3: docu series on Netflix. Holy moly, it's it's intense, beast,
- 15:51Speaker 3: it's intense.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:53Speaker 3: We talk about we're so football. We talk about Brady
- 15:56Speaker 3: and his greatness, my homes and his greatness, Anna and
- 16:00Speaker 3: his greatness, and and so on. Well and Rod even
- 16:04Speaker 3: though he's only got one Rogers Oh yeah, yeah, the
- 16:07Speaker 3: most talented of them all in the two thousands. Definitely
- 16:11Speaker 3: more so than than Peyton and Brady. It's probably the
- 16:13Speaker 3: coolest one. And I think Drew's the coolest. Think so,
- 16:17Speaker 3: I think Drew is the coolest. Aaron is up there
- 16:22Speaker 3: he's so polarizing though. It's fabulous for us because any
- 16:25Speaker 3: kind of lane being polarizing, Nick Saban when he was coaching,
- 16:29Speaker 3: being polarizing, Brady being polarizing. Aaron Rodgers, we love it.
- 16:34Speaker 3: We love it, even like Tony Boutallo in a sport
- 16:39Speaker 3: that doesn't drive the train. But we love being polarizing
- 16:42Speaker 3: gets people hot. By Sean Payton was polarizing in New
- 16:45Speaker 3: Orleans because he wasn't scared to talk trash. Uh, and
- 16:49Speaker 3: he's one of the few on Twitter. What were you
- 16:50Speaker 3: just interrupted you? What'd you say?
- 16:52Speaker 4: Oh, that's a great question, maybe about about Bartolo.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Not making it out of the year.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Well, anyway, so the PSI Rogers being cool, I think
- 17:03Speaker 4: you're underestimating it. No, I think he is cool, Okay,
- 17:07Speaker 4: And I love Breeze. I think Breeze is real cool too.
- 17:10Speaker 4: But Rogers like, I mean, you know, there's that kid
- 17:13Speaker 4: that he's found on Instagram, and he probably brings him
- 17:15Speaker 4: out to the games and stuff. Now, yeah, because he
- 17:18Speaker 4: throws the ball like him on Instagram's funny.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers. I would this is probably going to be
- 17:23Speaker 3: his last year. He and Mike McCarthy are reuniting as
- 17:27Speaker 3: they were in Green Bay years ago together, right, and
- 17:31Speaker 3: then Aaron's bounced around, as you know, and now they're
- 17:35Speaker 3: with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which sounds weird, right, Aaron Rodgers
- 17:38Speaker 3: and Mike McCarthy, even though Mike's from Pennsylvania and grew
- 17:41Speaker 3: up a Steelers fan, so this is like this was
- 17:43Speaker 3: his dream job, which is incredible. That okay, And so
- 17:48Speaker 3: he's all tied into that, to that state, and we
- 17:50Speaker 3: know how much that state loves the Steelers, the Eagles
- 17:53Speaker 3: and penn State. Good lord, I mean and I yeah,
- 17:59Speaker 3: holy Mary olzab they love it. We talked about how
- 18:03Speaker 3: much we love sports, and we do, and all in
- 18:05Speaker 3: the Sun Belt we we love everything from football to softball,
- 18:08Speaker 3: to baseball to volleyball. But good lord, Pennsylvania Steelers, of
- 18:15Speaker 3: course one of the top three franchises of all time
- 18:18Speaker 3: in the NFL. Eagles have won two Super Bowls just
- 18:22Speaker 3: in the last few years and have been to god
- 18:25Speaker 3: knows how many NFC Championship games under Andy Reid and
- 18:30Speaker 3: then Threw Siriani what yeah, no, no, no, he went to
- 18:36Speaker 3: five just with Donovan McNabb and Andy and then they've
- 18:40Speaker 3: been to several since then. And then they've won two
- 18:44Speaker 3: with two different coaches, Peterson one and then Sirianni won
- 18:49Speaker 3: because they embarrassed Mahomes and the Chiefs two years ago. Anyway,
- 18:53Speaker 3: come in full circle. We just went from basectomies to
- 18:56Speaker 3: super Bowls and that's what we do here on the
- 18:58Speaker 3: Out of Bounds Show. Want to welcome you, say good morning.

- 21:17Speaker 3: watching Drew Brees, watching the Drew Brees Hall of Fame
- 21:22Speaker 3: speech as someone who knows Drew covered him from start
- 21:28Speaker 3: to finish and still covers him today, what was it
- 21:33Speaker 3: like for you during his speech at the Pro Football
- 21:36Speaker 3: Hall of Fame. Mike D.
- 21:39Speaker 6: No, what he said didn't surprise me. It was funny
- 21:44Speaker 6: that this was less than a week after he had been,
- 21:50Speaker 6: you know, basically told that he would be in the
- 21:54Speaker 6: Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was working on his speech.
- 21:58Speaker 6: He came on on a Monday night with us and
- 22:03Speaker 6: was talking about I'm already working on the speech, and
- 22:06Speaker 6: so I knew it would be powerful and emotional. And
- 22:11Speaker 6: you know, the guys meant so much to the community,
- 22:16Speaker 6: not only as a football player, but for so many
- 22:19Speaker 6: other things he's done for the community, getting involved in
- 22:24Speaker 6: a number of businesses, getting involved in so many charity
- 22:29Speaker 6: events in this area. It was an emotional time for
- 22:35Speaker 6: people here, not just what he did for the football team,
- 22:41Speaker 6: but what he did for the community. You know, some people,
- 22:47Speaker 6: they they elect not to you know, they do their
- 22:51Speaker 6: time there as as a player and that sort of thing.
- 22:56Speaker 6: But Drew was a lot more than that. Always was
- 23:00Speaker 6: about the community and trying to help out in so
- 23:04Speaker 6: many different ways. And he was able to help rebuild
- 23:08Speaker 6: this area after you know, Hurricane Katrina. And I think
- 23:13Speaker 6: you saw his emotions and I think the emotions right
- 23:17Speaker 6: back to him for what he did for this area.
- 23:21Speaker 6: The love for this region, the Scaints, everything else was
- 23:28Speaker 6: on full display. And it didn't surprise me one bit.
- 23:32Speaker 6: Did a fantastic.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Job he did.
- 23:34Speaker 3: It was might Dy. It was a spectacular speech, and
- 23:38Speaker 3: that doesn't surprise me that he prepped for it for
- 23:41Speaker 3: basically six months. I just thought.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Everything he preps for everything he does, and so just
- 23:51Speaker 6: you know how he's his makeup he is as a
- 23:56Speaker 6: human being, and he you know, he's always ready no
- 24:00Speaker 6: matter what, He's ready to rule.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Mike d Mike Detilier WWL Radio, New Orleans. He joins
- 24:08Speaker 3: us on Out of Bounds Drew Brees goes into the
- 24:10Speaker 3: Pro Football Hall of Fame. How about the fact that
- 24:12Speaker 3: he was like twenty seven years old, Mike, when he
- 24:15Speaker 3: walks in to the blank show that New Orleans is
- 24:19Speaker 3: trying to get back and get going, and at that
- 24:23Speaker 3: age he has the understanding and the leadership ability and
- 24:30Speaker 3: intangibles to jump right in, like you said, and not
- 24:35Speaker 3: just be QB one for the New Orleans Saints, but
- 24:39Speaker 3: when he could do everything he could to be a
- 24:43Speaker 3: positive impact on the community. We forget he was almost
- 24:46Speaker 3: a baby when he walked into New Orleans, Mike.
- 24:49Speaker 6: He was a young man, and well he always teases
- 24:54Speaker 6: about you guys are getting older on me. He is
- 24:58Speaker 6: too little bit. But you know he had on doctor
- 25:04Speaker 6: Tim Finny yesterday who was the Saints team doctor. And
- 25:10Speaker 6: it was really doctor Finnie that gave the Saints the
- 25:15Speaker 6: two thumbs up to sign him. Just remember that that
- 25:18Speaker 6: was a lot of hoopla because of what happened in
- 25:22Speaker 6: Miami when he went there and he funked the physical
- 25:24Speaker 6: which you would have never passed anywhere. He was just
- 25:28Speaker 6: weeks out of surgery, and doctor Finnie told me yesterday
- 25:34Speaker 6: about going through all the details of the surgery and
- 25:39Speaker 6: working with doctor James Andrews on making sure that they
- 25:46Speaker 6: had a shot here that he could come back from it.
- 25:50Speaker 6: And he said, the one thing that really he said,
- 25:55Speaker 6: the surgery went well, and even though it was unprecedented
- 25:59Speaker 6: at that time, the one thing he had done was
- 26:04Speaker 6: a lot of research on Drew and it was about
- 26:08Speaker 6: his determination. And he said, I knew if anybody had
- 26:13Speaker 6: a shot, it was true. And so he gave the
- 26:18Speaker 6: Saints the two thumbs up to sign him. I think
- 26:22Speaker 6: about the fact that he grew up in Texas living
- 26:26Speaker 6: none of the Texas schools recruited him. He grew up
- 26:29Speaker 6: a Texas A and M fan. They didn't offer him.
- 26:33Speaker 6: He goes to Purdue and puts up all these unbelievable numbers,
- 26:39Speaker 6: still doesn't get picked in the first round. He was
- 26:42Speaker 6: the second round pick when Greg Williams was here as
- 26:46Speaker 6: the defensive coordinator for the Saints. Him and I talked
- 26:51Speaker 6: for a while. He made the comment of me that
- 26:56Speaker 6: I'd still have my damn job in Buffalo for to
- 26:58Speaker 6: pick Drew Brees. He said, I had a hard headed
- 27:03Speaker 6: general manager that didn't want to pick him, didn't feel
- 27:06Speaker 6: maybe he had all the attributes that we're looking for.
- 27:11Speaker 6: He's he's beat the odds everywhere, you know, and and
- 27:15Speaker 6: it was right place, right time, right coach, right system
- 27:19Speaker 6: with him. Okay, he was the right guy for Sean
- 27:22Speaker 6: Payton in that offense and it all worked out. And
- 27:28Speaker 6: you know, sometimes we look back on things that we
- 27:31Speaker 6: do and it doesn't work out and we wonder why,
- 27:34Speaker 6: and it's, uh, you know, maybe the man upstairs doesn't
- 27:38Speaker 6: feelers do it's right for you and he moves you on.
- 27:42Speaker 6: But for Drew, he you know, he's never discouraged about
- 27:46Speaker 6: things that go wrong with him. Never. He he just
- 27:51Speaker 6: keeps plodding along. And I think his determination, uh, is
- 27:56Speaker 6: in his love for the game. Is is a big
- 28:01Speaker 6: part of you know, who he is and how he
- 28:05Speaker 6: got to this point. He's a coaching now. His sons.
- 28:12Speaker 6: He's got one son who's a quarterback, the others are receivers.
- 28:17Speaker 6: So it's like, I don't know how that happened, But
- 28:21Speaker 6: you know, he's just a fantastic guy. And I think
- 28:25Speaker 6: his motivational skills. I think yesterday he was at Purdue
- 28:30Speaker 6: giving a motivational talk to the parlamical football team.
- 28:36Speaker 3: They want a big for our listeners. This is where
- 28:38Speaker 3: Mike's going. Drew Brees won a high school state championship
- 28:41Speaker 3: at South Lake, which really put them on the map.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Now we talk about that program all the time. We
- 28:46Speaker 3: didn't back in nineteen ninety seven. Then he goes to Purdue,
- 28:49Speaker 3: who hasn't won but like four seasons in the last
- 28:52Speaker 3: sixty years, and he and Joe Tayler win a Big
- 28:55Speaker 3: Ten championship. And then he goes to New Orleans who
- 28:58Speaker 3: had never really won, as Mike and y'all know, and
- 29:01Speaker 3: they won a Lombardi Trophy and go to multiple NFC
- 29:03Speaker 3: championship game. He's one of the biggest winners in North
- 29:05Speaker 3: American sports. It's so okay. Mike Ntilier WWL Radio TV
- 29:13Speaker 3: New Orleans. He joins us on one oh five nine
- 29:15Speaker 3: to the Zone ESPN. Mike, I want to switch gears.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Lane Kiffen is raving about three freshmen among others. But
- 29:24Speaker 3: he's making a great point in a day and age
- 29:26Speaker 3: where freshmen don't play at not as many play day
- 29:30Speaker 3: one because all these teams are filling in holes through
- 29:34Speaker 3: the portal and trying to find especially juniors and seniors
- 29:38Speaker 3: that have played at the G five level or wherever
- 29:40Speaker 3: and can get plugged in. Man, there's a lot of
- 29:44Speaker 3: buzz around some guys that could be Week one ready,
- 29:48Speaker 3: even though they were playing high school football last year,
- 29:52Speaker 3: and these guys are at LSU. What are you hearing,
- 29:54Speaker 3: Mike d.
- 29:57Speaker 6: Yeah, Richard Anderson and Douce Geralds along with Lamar Brown,
- 30:02Speaker 6: three freshman defensive lineman. And I think it was a
- 30:08Speaker 6: big part of why coach Oseronk got hired. I think
- 30:13Speaker 6: there was no doubt that he wanted somebody to help
- 30:19Speaker 6: mentor these young guys, and he knew he needed help
- 30:23Speaker 6: from them as a true freshman because that's the one
- 30:28Speaker 6: area we've talked about that they don't have a lot
- 30:30Speaker 6: of depth. I think about Richard Anderson and laugh all
- 30:36Speaker 6: the time about it because you know, he's from Edna Carr.
- 30:40Speaker 6: He's six two and a half. He probably played last
- 30:45Speaker 6: year in the three forty five range. I mean, he's
- 30:49Speaker 6: a wide load. And so he wins Louisiana Player of
- 30:54Speaker 6: the Year and man, he comes out all dressed up
- 30:57Speaker 6: and three piece suit and everything, and his coach Bryce
- 31:01Speaker 6: Brown makes the comment, I didn't think they could, you know,
- 31:04Speaker 6: make a suit that big because a huge band. He said,
- 31:10Speaker 6: they got a lot of thread on him suit. But
- 31:14Speaker 6: you know, he's the guy that I I know even
- 31:18Speaker 6: before he got hard, he had worked with coach Oh
- 31:22Speaker 6: privately and Oh had told me he is like eighty boy.
- 31:30Speaker 6: He reminds me of a young Cortez Kennedy. Wow, because
- 31:35Speaker 6: he coached Cortes at Miami flor And he says, the
- 31:38Speaker 6: closest thing I've seen to Cortes as a coach for me.
- 31:44Speaker 6: And then Deuce Gerald's is a six foot and a
- 31:48Speaker 6: half two hundred and seventy five pound defensive tackle. Totally
- 31:53Speaker 6: different type, built, super quick off the snap. We'll see
- 31:58Speaker 6: how well he handles up, you know, in a much
- 32:01Speaker 6: bigger lead. But man, he's been really impressive. And then
- 32:05Speaker 6: Lamar Brown, number one rady to recruit in the state Louisiana,
- 32:11Speaker 6: number one rated defensive lineman. I made a call with
- 32:16Speaker 6: him a couple of years back, he comes to one
- 32:18Speaker 6: of the camps and I told him, I said, you
- 32:20Speaker 6: could be a starting offensive lineman in college football today.
- 32:25Speaker 6: He was like, oh, no, no, no, coach, I won't
- 32:29Speaker 6: play defensive end. I took a good look at him.
- 32:32Speaker 6: He weighed in like two hundred eighty two pounds that day. Like, man,
- 32:36Speaker 6: you two hundred eighty two pounds and the ain't a
- 32:38Speaker 6: lot of defensive ends two hundred eighty two pounds today.
- 32:42Speaker 6: And he was like a nobody, I will I want
- 32:44Speaker 6: to play defensive end. Great athlete, just just tremendous athlete.
- 32:49Speaker 6: And I still feel that way today that he could
- 32:52Speaker 6: he could be a starting offensive lineman. He's if he
- 32:56Speaker 6: if that's what he wanted to do. So he's getting
- 32:59Speaker 6: them ready, and uh, I think they'll see I don't
- 33:04Speaker 6: know about starting time, but I think they'll see extensive
- 33:06Speaker 6: playing time. Uh. And you know, for the Tigers this year,
- 33:11Speaker 6: they have to because they're they're really paper than up
- 33:14Speaker 6: front along the defensive line. And O's also brought up
- 33:18Speaker 6: to me Triton Henderson, who was from Florida as an
- 33:21Speaker 6: edge rusher, as a guy that he really likes. Uh.
- 33:25Speaker 6: And he also is a true freshman, So we'll see
- 33:30Speaker 6: how all that turns out. Uh. And you're right, though,
- 33:33Speaker 6: absolutely right. Very few guys as true freshmen can just
- 33:38Speaker 6: step in and and make that type of impact. So
- 33:42Speaker 6: every once in a while you find one, you know, uh,
- 33:46Speaker 6: Dylan Stewart from South Carolina a few years back, true
- 33:49Speaker 6: freshman and he made an impact. But we'll see what
- 33:54Speaker 6: happens upfront with him. But they're well coached, uh uh,
- 33:58Speaker 6: you know, they they've got people that can help develop them.
- 34:03Speaker 6: And most of the time is the physical part of
- 34:06Speaker 6: the game. Sure, because you jump from high school to college,
- 34:09Speaker 6: it's a totally different game, especially in the SEC. You know,
- 34:14Speaker 6: there's no homecoming games here.
- 34:18Speaker 3: There's Mike Attilier talk and LSU football, so it's it's
- 34:22Speaker 3: Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson and Deuce Gerald's and they
- 34:27Speaker 3: were able to go and maybe Kirby and them didn't
- 34:29Speaker 3: like his size. I don't know. He's still highly recruited.
- 34:32Speaker 3: But Deuce Gerald's from Swannee, Georgia, and Lane and Baker
- 34:38Speaker 3: and whoever were able to go in and and grab him. Mike,
- 34:44Speaker 3: did that surprise you because Kirby usually can get just
- 34:48Speaker 3: about who he wants in the state of Georgia.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I knew they were in the mix, but Lsu
- 34:57Speaker 6: was able to pull it out at the end, would do.
- 35:00Speaker 6: And he came in early. He was a midterm guy.
- 35:04Speaker 6: And in the spring, the upper classmen, the offensive lineman
- 35:10Speaker 6: all said, Deuce Gerald, where did he come from? Don't
- 35:16Speaker 6: look like the freshmen to me? And uh, And he
- 35:20Speaker 6: made a really really quick impact on this team. So
- 35:26Speaker 6: you know, you never know in recruiting.
- 35:28Speaker 2: UH.
- 35:28Speaker 6: And also to I know, you know, money gets involved.
- 35:32Speaker 6: But for most of these young men too, they want
- 35:36Speaker 6: to play right away, right you know, they they want
- 35:40Speaker 6: to get in there. And I think maybe that was
- 35:42Speaker 6: the caveats. You had an opportunity to play right away.
- 35:47Speaker 6: The competition he had to be it wasn't a long list,
- 35:51Speaker 6: and so I think that played a part in Richard
- 35:55Speaker 6: Anderson he could have went anywhere. Same thing with Lamardy.
- 35:58Speaker 6: I mean, both of them, they can win anywhere they wanted.
- 36:02Speaker 6: But I knew Richard would have to lose some weight
- 36:06Speaker 6: and I think he's down. He's in the three twenty
- 36:10Speaker 6: range now and so he's got I'm gonna say, twenty
- 36:17Speaker 6: pounds off of him. When I saw him back in January.
- 36:21Speaker 6: You know, he was all of three forty five. He's
- 36:24Speaker 6: a huge man. Young man, but he's a huge man.
- 36:29Speaker 6: And when it's younger, it's easier for you to get
- 36:31Speaker 6: that weight off than it is when you get a
- 36:33Speaker 6: little bit older. But man, he is. He was a
- 36:39Speaker 6: monster for the best program in Louisiana and Edna Carr.
- 36:45Speaker 6: He was a monster player for them. Ain't nobody running
- 36:48Speaker 6: that dim. I mean, he shut that down real quick.
- 36:52Speaker 6: And it's also his ability to run the field for
- 36:57Speaker 6: a big man, which a lot of times guys and
- 37:00Speaker 6: stop the run, you know, guard center guard. But for him,
- 37:06Speaker 6: he had the ability to chase you down. And they
- 37:08Speaker 6: ain't nothing scared you in a three hundred and forty
- 37:10Speaker 6: pound man chasing down one hundred and eighty pounds back
- 37:13Speaker 6: in the backfield.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Good grief. Mike Detillier's talking about this LSU freshman defensive
- 37:20Speaker 3: line class that both Ole miss Mississippi State will face
- 37:25Speaker 3: and Clemson will get week one. Like what will I mean, Mike?
- 37:29Speaker 3: You could kind of frame it up like Mike Detillier,
- 37:31Speaker 3: by the way WWL Radio New Orleans on the show, Mike,
- 37:35Speaker 3: you could, I mean whether or not LSU goes to
- 37:39Speaker 3: the college football player. They may not be the main
- 37:42Speaker 3: but there'll be a piece of the puzzle. If you
- 37:44Speaker 3: can get some pretty good production out of these three
- 37:47Speaker 3: in whatever shape, form or fashion, may be the reason why,
- 37:50Speaker 3: or if you don't, maybe the reason why they do
- 37:52Speaker 3: or don't go to the college football playoff.
- 37:54Speaker 2: You agree, Yeah, I agree.
- 37:56Speaker 6: It's a good point. And if I'm Clemson, I'm running
- 37:59Speaker 6: the ball right at them. I'm gonna test them. Listen,
- 38:03Speaker 6: it's I'm gonna find out just how good they are
- 38:06Speaker 6: one way or another. But if I'm Clemson and Dabbo,
- 38:11Speaker 6: I'm running the ball at the freshmen, see if they'll
- 38:14Speaker 6: hold up. I know one thing comes and they'll have
- 38:17Speaker 6: no small guys up front. I mean, they're gonna get
- 38:20Speaker 6: after them. So we'll see what happens and how they
- 38:23Speaker 6: able to make this work. But I suspect one of
- 38:27Speaker 6: them may end up being a starter in that game.
- 38:31Speaker 6: I don't know about the others. And I think the
- 38:35Speaker 6: one thing with Oh he's really preached is about rotation.
- 38:40Speaker 6: That he constantly wants to rotate eight to nine defensive linemen.
- 38:47Speaker 6: His belief is that I want my number one unit
- 38:52Speaker 6: fresh for the final five minutes of a game, because
- 38:57Speaker 6: he said, you know, in today's world where it's you know,
- 39:00Speaker 6: kind of decided one score or not, I want my
- 39:04Speaker 6: top unit on the field, defensive line wise, fresh for
- 39:10Speaker 6: the final five minutes.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Of a game.
- 39:14Speaker 3: And that that that makes sense. Mike Ntillier on the show,
- 39:17Speaker 3: Mike d speaking of your friend Ad ozeron who's now
- 39:20Speaker 3: on Lane Kippin's staff. Did you see where he's doing
- 39:23Speaker 3: cameos now for people?
- 39:29Speaker 6: Nothing he does surprises me to day. Be honestly, nothing
- 39:37Speaker 6: he does surprises me. Uh. And so yeah, he's uh,
- 39:41Speaker 6: he's something else with that. But he's almost like the
- 39:47Speaker 6: celebrity coach. Yeah, you know, this is unreal for a guy. Yeah,
- 39:57Speaker 6: varied success as a head coach, but he's become such
- 40:02Speaker 6: a personality, sure, you know, and he can meet somebody
- 40:09Speaker 6: and and my memory is really good. I'm not quite
- 40:14Speaker 6: as good with names of people as as he is. Uh,
- 40:20Speaker 6: where I can remember stuff differently. Uh. If he meets
- 40:25Speaker 6: somebody and meets their family and he and doesn't see
- 40:29Speaker 6: him for ten years, he could tell you all about him.
- 40:33Speaker 6: It's amazing how his how his mind works with that.
- 40:37Speaker 6: And so he was approached a couple of years back
- 40:40Speaker 6: about it about doing this and turned it down. And
- 40:45Speaker 6: then he did not know until what a little over
- 40:49Speaker 6: a month ago that he was going to be on
- 40:52Speaker 6: the staff at.
- 40:52Speaker 2: L s U.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Why is that? Me and lanter buds? But what what?
- 40:57Speaker 3: Why did it take so long?
- 41:00Speaker 6: We don't have no idea of exactly why that it
- 41:05Speaker 6: took so long for that to come together. But I
- 41:09Speaker 6: knew coming out of spring. I'd been told by different
- 41:12Speaker 6: people at LSU that he was concerned a little bit
- 41:16Speaker 6: of having to play all these young defensive linemen and
- 41:20Speaker 6: that he was going to push to have coach Will
- 41:23Speaker 6: come on and help mentor these young defensive linemen. And
- 41:30Speaker 6: he goes on vacation to Cabo and he never told
- 41:35Speaker 6: me he was headed there, but agreed to do the
- 41:38Speaker 6: show with me. And when my producer calls him, he's like,
- 41:44Speaker 6: Coach Oo just wants you to know that he's in Cobo, Mexico.
- 41:49Speaker 6: Like what the hell is he doing this show with before?
- 41:52Speaker 6: So that's how we started. He said, because you asked me,
- 41:55Speaker 6: I'm doing it, okay, and I'll let him ramble on.
- 42:01Speaker 6: And he went twenty six minutes doing the show. He
- 42:08Speaker 6: just rambled on Uh, ask him a question and he'd go,
- 42:12Speaker 6: he'd run with it. Didn't tell me that anything was
- 42:17Speaker 6: going on. And the following week, the Tuesday night, I
- 42:25Speaker 6: got tipped off that he was headed to LSU and
- 42:30Speaker 6: they made the announcement Wednesday night. Okay, you know just
- 42:36Speaker 6: the way he is, that's the count of the way
- 42:40Speaker 6: ed ed road with everything. And I'm grateful if I've
- 42:45Speaker 6: ever asked him, Hey, you want to come on?
- 42:47Speaker 2: Hey, what time?
- 42:48Speaker 6: Just let me know, you know, and he's ready to
- 42:51Speaker 6: go and you can ask him anything. I mean, he's
- 42:54Speaker 6: if it's pro football, college football. During the playoffs, we
- 42:58Speaker 6: would be texting back in forth, back and forth, back
- 43:01Speaker 6: and forth about certain things. And man, we ran this
- 43:05Speaker 6: play with with Joe Brady and what he would explain.
- 43:10Speaker 6: We were just all game long. It was. It was
- 43:14Speaker 6: back and forth between the two of us about it.
