Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, it's time for Most Things Kenobi.
- 0:03Shouldn't it be all things Kenobi?
- 0:21Hi everyone, welcome to another episode and another season of
- 0:25Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all
- 0:30things Star Wars. I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:33And I'm your host, Leanne. And we're back, baby.
- 0:36We're back. We're back in the saddle again.
- 0:41That was a a ride, wasn't it? Yeah, I like that Season 1 is
- 0:48like 158 episodes long or something like that.
- 0:53Well, you know, it took, it took life jerking us around just
- 0:58enough to bring us to a new season and the start of several
- 1:02new seasons. I think we're going to go in the
- 1:04route the the route of having seasons now so that, you know,
- 1:09when things crop up, we can just go ahead and take that break for
- 1:13our mental sanity. Yes, we've been going hard for
- 1:17years, actually. Once a week, every week, for
- 1:21more than two years, right? Yeah.
- 1:24So I think we've earned a new structure, one that's a little
- 1:29more maintainable at this point. I think so.
- 1:32I think burnout is a real thing and I think we it would service
- 1:38us and our fans and listeners that we stay consistent but
- 1:44manageable so that we can stay consistent.
- 1:46And then if stuff does come up like it did, you know, and where
- 1:50we have to just compartmentalize and let life happen, then it's
- 1:55not so much of a hard stop. Yeah.
- 1:58And for that, I would like to say thank you to everyone for
- 2:01your unending patience and kindness through all of this.
- 2:05You're more than wonderful. There are no words.
- 2:08There really aren't. Yeah, we've had a lot of
- 2:11messages saying take your time, we'll be here when you come
- 2:15back. It was really, I'm not surprised
- 2:19because our fans are the best ever, but it was still really,
- 2:24it really touched my heart. The people were so kind and so
- 2:27supportive and stuck with us through a big spell of
- 2:31inconsistency followed by silence.
- 2:34It just it, it really did make a difference, though.
- 2:37We're back and we're we feel strong, we feel good, we're in a
- 2:41good spot. Life has dealt us some blows.
- 2:44Not all of them are resolved, but we're in a position where we
- 2:48can at least come back to the thing that we love and that has
- 2:52always been there for us through everything, and that's Star Wars
- 2:56and our friendship. Yes.
- 2:58That to me is like just, we've Facetimed a few times for fun
- 3:03just in the last few weeks, and it's felt so before the podcast,
- 3:08you know, we were just hanging out as friends.
- 3:10Yeah, yeah. It's been nice to reconnect that
- 3:13way. I mean, it's great that podcast
- 3:15is an excuse to hang out, but it's nice also to have our
- 3:19friendship and not just Star Wars.
- 3:21But I will say that with all this horrible shit that's been
- 3:26going on in my regular life, I have actually resorted back to
- 3:30using Star Wars as like a comfort show, you know?
- 3:33Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's always there.
- 3:36I mean, shit, maybe we should do an episode on why Star Wars is
- 3:39there for us. Remember how we did it and and
- 3:42pulled everybody? We talked about it a little bit,
- 3:44but holy fuck, yeah, we had to lean on it.
- 3:49Yeah, it's been a refresher this year. 2024 has been a year of
- 3:54stress, that's for sure. Yeah.
- 3:57We're hoping that smoother waters are ahead.
- 4:00We're planning to do episodes every other week moving forward
- 4:05just so that we can. We have day jobs and we have
- 4:11busy lives, and this will just make it easier for us to do.
- 4:14Both have a little balance, right, Which is what we want to
- 4:17talk about with Qui Gon Jin. Thank you.
- 4:21Oh God, I love him. We need him.
- 4:26So we'll do every other week and then we will break down into
- 4:29seasons where we're going to take maybe a month off here and
- 4:32there as we decide there's no, we haven't decided like what
- 4:35that schedule will be, but we're going to need breaks.
- 4:38It's just that's just life. So I would love to do this as a
- 4:42full time job, but that's just not been.
- 4:45Possible So yeah, no, I agree, but shit, it's it is a it is a
- 4:51bright spot because I get to hang out with you and and kind
- 4:55of hang out with everyone by proxy through this through this
- 5:00podcast. So.
- 5:02And it always makes me laugh like we always have.
- 5:06Truly. And then when we edit it we re
- 5:09laugh over the shit we already laughed at.
- 5:12Or stuff I totally forgot we even did.
- 5:15That's always a gem when we I'm editing and I find something
- 5:19that I forgot we said and I'll laugh Totally.
- 5:23So to start things off, we're gonna revisit that last topic we
- 5:28mentioned in our last episode, whatever that was.
- 5:31I don't even remember what that was.
- 5:33I think we wrapped up the acolyte.
- 5:36And was that? Yeah, that sounds really.
- 5:38As that season ended, so did ours, although not everyone died
- 5:43in this cast. Correct.
- 5:45OK, we're still here, so. We just hibernated for a couple
- 5:52of weeks and. We shut, we powered down and
- 5:55then, you know, took a rest, defragged our our CPUs and then
- 6:00powered back up. Was that the nerdiest thing I've
- 6:02ever said? Probably not, but pretty well.
- 6:04I don't know. I mean, it depends on what we
- 6:06call nerdy. It's true.
- 6:08It's very. True, we are people who write
- 6:11fan fiction, and I think that is one of the ultimate levels of
- 6:14nerdy at least. Like when people are making fun
- 6:16of fandom, they always refer to people who write fan fiction.
- 6:19It's like, hey, like we could be cool too, maybe.
- 6:24Listen, there are people out there writing better stories
- 6:26than than have been written professionally and made money
- 6:30off of. Like yes, let's get fucking real
- 6:32here. Yes, there have been fanfics
- 6:35that I couldn't put down and multiple books that I easily put
- 6:39down because they sucked. Every single script I feel is
- 6:44technically fanfic, it's just they get paid.
- 6:50Nowadays, Yeah, seriously, it's really true.
- 6:53I think there's been several things that have come out in
- 6:57Star Wars recently that felt more like fan fiction than
- 7:00traditional Star Wars. But I'm OK with truly
- 7:03traditional Star Wars not being the end all be all of Star Wars
- 7:07so. Very true.
- 7:08There's rig wiggle room in there.
- 7:10Yes. But yeah, anyway, Acolyte was
- 7:13the last thing we talked about that's well over and done.
- 7:16So I kind of like that we're starting this new season with
- 7:20like an off the wall topic, which I believe is what we refer
- 7:23to this as at the end of our last episode, because it's kind
- 7:27of one of those fun, just weird topics where we get to explore
- 7:31the characters, but as things such as mythological creatures
- 7:36and characters and and and that's what we're doing today,
- 7:38which is the Greek version of the gods and goddesses and
- 7:42mythological characters. Yes, and you're going to have to
- 7:46remind me. We agreed to just write a list
- 7:48of what we thought, right? And then we're going to compare
- 7:51who's on our list and what we think.
- 7:54Yes, OK, yes, I think we didn't. Yeah.
- 7:57We didn't even make a list of our like who we were going to
- 8:00talk about. I just mine is totally based off
- 8:03of Edith Hamilton's mythology and I just went through her list
- 8:07in her book which were like the major gods and goddesses.
- 8:11Not like she does have minor ones in there, but I didn't
- 8:14bother to go that deep so. Well, I just went down through
- 8:19Wikipedia. At first I went through
- 8:20Britannica's list, and then I compared it to Wikipedia's, and
- 8:26depending on who's writing it, there's a different style of how
- 8:30they describe these immortal Greek God and goddesses.
- 8:34So I just said, OK, because there's too much variety, I'll
- 8:37just stick with Wikipedia and go with that.
- 8:42And I went down through the list of the ones that I thought were
- 8:46characters in Star Wars, and if there were any that I couldn't
- 8:49identify or had trouble, I just left them off my list.
- 8:52OK, well. You call out yours and then I'll
- 8:54see if I have it on my list and I'll tell you my choice and if I
- 8:57don't then whatever. How does that sound?
- 9:00This how we roll this is. And then if if there's one on my
- 9:05list that you didn't, then I'll bring it up and vice versa.
- 9:09So. Awesome, that.
- 9:10OK, that works. Cool you following us people.
- 9:15We did not consult each other prior to today on what who we
- 9:19have on our list and what what we think, so bear with us all.
- 9:23Right, so we'll start with Zeus and the description I have.
- 9:29Yes, the. Most important, Titan Cronus,
- 9:33which is Latin Saturn. OK, he ruled over all the other
- 9:38Titans until his son Zeus dethroned him and seized the
- 9:41power for himself. So I think that Zeus is
- 9:45Palpatine and Cronus was Darth Pelagius.
- 9:49Oh, God. OK, OK, Zeus.
- 9:53Is like the supreme ruler, his power was greater than all of
- 9:56the other divinities together. But sometimes there's references
- 10:00to fate, the mystical fate being stronger than Zeus, which to be
- 10:05was like the force has more power than Palpatine.
- 10:08Yeah. Palpatine, Sidious slash Sidious
- 10:11and then his weapon was the Thunderbolt and like Sidious is
- 10:15like. Oh, I didn't even think of that.
- 10:18That's pretty good. That's pretty good, so.
- 10:20That's that's where that's what I started with.
- 10:22So what did you say for Zeus? Interesting I.
- 10:27I didn't go off of any of what you just said, so my answer is
- 10:32why I? Love us.
- 10:33I know I went with Obi Wan and here's why.
- 10:37Oh, interesting. I.
- 10:39Know totally opposite of Palpatine, but if you base it
- 10:44off of Wikipedia's description, OK.
- 10:47He's the king of the gods, right?
- 10:49Ruler of Mount Olympus, God of the sky, whether Thunder,
- 10:52lightning, law, order, and justice.
- 10:53But they say he is depicted as a regal, mature man with a sturdy
- 10:58figure and dark beard. His usual attributes are the
- 11:02royal scepter and the lightning bolt.
- 11:05His sacred animals include the eagle in the bull.
- 11:07He overthrew Cronus and gained the sovereignty of heaven for
- 11:10himself. But of all of this, what struck
- 11:13me was regal, mature man with a sturdy figure in dark beard,
- 11:19law, order and justice. And I said, that's Obi Wan.
- 11:23And that's interesting. From Obi Wan came everything
- 11:29else that trickled down to what we know in Star Wars.
- 11:32Kind of like, you know, Anakin was his padawan.
- 11:36That goes down to Luke, that goes down to OK, so like, he's
- 11:40law, order and justice, man, That's what I think.
- 11:44And he's regal as fuck, so he is.
- 11:47Everyone is very regal and he's got a nice beard, so.
- 11:51And a sturdy figure. We always talk about the Dorito.
- 11:54We're. Very, very appreciative of that
- 11:57figure. I don't know.
- 12:00Zeus is double faced like he's known for.
- 12:03He's a rapist. Oh God, I didn't.
- 12:06Oh. Yeah.
- 12:07And he's definitely like he, he holds people to a very high
- 12:11standard while not maintaining that standard for himself.
- 12:14So he's that's. Palpatine, yeah.
- 12:16So like that's Palpatine but like the good side of him is Obi
- 12:20Wan for sure. The bad side is like who would
- 12:24Mall 100? Percent yes.
- 12:27Yes, because those two are forever intertwined.
- 12:30That totally works. That totally works.
- 12:33You just put Mall and Obi Wan back-to-back and you have Zeus.
- 12:40Oh God, minus the crazy eyes maybe.
- 12:47Oh Lord. Oh, that was a good way to
- 12:49start. Good, good, good on you.
- 12:53All right, well, the next one on the list was Hera, which is
- 12:55Zeus's. Wife I have Hera.
- 12:59This was hard for me because according to Edith Hamilton,
- 13:02Hera was considered beautiful but viciously vindictive towards
- 13:06the women who had been with her husband, whether or not those
- 13:09women were coerced or raped. But she was also a protector of
- 13:14women and marriage and childbirth.
- 13:15So she had this like duality to her.
- 13:18So there's nothing, in my opinion, like the real, like the
- 13:20Hera from Star Wars. But I picked a Saj like Ventress
- 13:25'cause she has that sense of justice and protection of
- 13:28people, Like how she protected that girl who is being sold as
- 13:32like a slave or whatever. But she's also really vicious
- 13:37and vindictive. So I don't know.
- 13:38That was kind of my weak choice. I felt like I didn't have a good
- 13:42strong idea of who I thought Hera was.
- 13:44I also had trouble because I have two and both of them have
- 13:48question marks next to their names in this list.
- 13:52And because of that difficulty between Queen of the gods,
- 13:56goddess of women, children, heirs, kings, empires, blah blah
- 14:00blah blah blah, you can you can go immediately to Padme because
- 14:03she literally is the mother of all the kings and everyone that
- 14:08follows beyond like. With.
- 14:10Luke and Leia and just she's a goddess, period.
- 14:13But she doesn't have that vindictive side, although she's
- 14:16very strong and a fighter and she will protect her kind, you
- 14:19know, whoever she's around. But I also thought that a good
- 14:24maternal figure, if we're going to go with that, is Andor's
- 14:27mother because she's real violent.
- 14:31Like, she had it in her. What's, what's her name?
- 14:33Marva. Marva.
- 14:35Yeah. I just put Andor's mother
- 14:37because I couldn't remember it when I made the list.
- 14:39But I also thought, like, she has an undercurrent of like, I
- 14:44will take you the fuck down. And all the violence she incited
- 14:48at the end of and, or even though she was, she had passed
- 14:51on. So I was in between the two
- 14:54because they're kind of a good blend.
- 14:57And yeah. I like that a lot actually.
- 15:00I mean, I don't know that she's jealous or vengeful like like
- 15:03this description says, I don't think that at all, but I think
- 15:06she is a little vengeful for her husband.
- 15:09She wants to avenge her people like it doesn't have to be like
- 15:14vengefulness is is talked about in a negative light here, but I
- 15:17think it could be a positive light for if you take into
- 15:19consider Marva. She was sick of having the
- 15:23Empire's boot on her neck. And yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 15:28Yeah. That's awesome.
- 15:29I didn't even think of her as an option for that, but I think
- 15:32that's a really good choice. Well, some of these are real.
- 15:35They're a little loosey goosey because a lot of these gods and
- 15:38goddesses are extremely volatile in nature.
- 15:43Yeah, just a sign of the time, like.
- 15:45The whole part of being a deity, right, is that you have like all
- 15:48this phenomenal cosmic power, as the genie says in Aladdin.
- 15:52But like like that can have like a bit of A2 face to it then
- 15:59because they can have whatever they want and they can get
- 16:01selfish, but then they can also use the power to do good.
- 16:04So yes, these. Are not hard and fast, yeah.
- 16:06They're not like 100% and that I do think Star Wars does that
- 16:11with Greek mythology. They pull a lot of the ideas and
- 16:15like the the core is in Greek mythology, but then the way they
- 16:19handle it is sometimes way less fucking horrific.
- 16:23I'm talking about like the original trilogy.
- 16:25Nowadays it's a whole other thing.
- 16:27But right. Yeah.
- 16:32All right. Who's next?
- 16:33Who do you have next? Is Hades.
- 16:36I do have Hades. The description I read said he
- 16:40had a far famed cap or helmet, which made whoever wore it
- 16:45invisible. It was rare that he left his
- 16:48dark realm, nor was he urged to do so.
- 16:51He was not a welcome visitor. He was unpitying, inexorable,
- 16:56but just a terrible but not evil God.
- 17:01So I picked Vader for that. I have Palpatine, Sidious.
- 17:07Interesting. Yeah.
- 17:09So basically kind of the same, yeah, I mean.
- 17:13Vader to me was we knew he was terrible and he was always
- 17:17talked about as evil. But Luke saw that he was not
- 17:21like that. He was redeemable.
- 17:23Right. And he's he was not pitying of
- 17:26anyone until Luke basically, right.
- 17:29I mean, when, when he's down in the lightning and all that, like
- 17:32he made a choice. They're like, this isn't gonna
- 17:34fly. When it I read he was not a
- 17:37welcome visitor, I just kept thinking of Lando.
- 17:43He's just like this deal keeps getting worse all the time.
- 17:47That's really, that's a good, that's a good.
- 17:50That's pretty good. Yeah, 'cause.
- 17:52He's not like, Hades was not evil, but if he showed up at
- 17:56your party, you'd be like, he's definitely got a bad vibe.
- 18:01This guy's bringing the mood down.
- 18:03Yeah, and. He wasn't like the Grim Reaper,
- 18:05but he was the God of the underworld, you know?
- 18:07So it was just like, not pleasant company, no.
- 18:11Nobody wants to and he had a three headed dog that hung out
- 18:14with him, which I thought of as as Tark Tarkin, Vader and that
- 18:21other guy that that ends up taking the place of that one.
- 18:24He dies. We read the gosh.
- 18:26Who was that? You know the.
- 18:27Short story. It was a point of view.
- 18:29You know that guy, Piet? Admiral Piet.
- 18:32Yes, so those are his three. That's Palpatir, Sidious 3
- 18:36headed dog. Oh my God, I love that so.
- 18:40I, I went a level above, but just because he's the king of
- 18:43the dead. I was like, well, everyone's
- 18:45dead whenever they come in contact with fucking Sidious.
- 18:49He's the God of wealth, which I thought I, I thought back to our
- 18:53seven deadly sins and, and the greed aspect that goes along
- 18:58with wealth. And I thought that was Sidious
- 19:00just because he not necessarily like silver and gold, but like
- 19:04planets and communities upon communities of just pillaging.
- 19:09Yeah, I mean, wealth is defined by the person a lot of times,
- 19:13and his idea of wealth was power and not money was part of it.
- 19:19But that wasn't his ultimate goal, was it?
- 19:21Money, it was. Power over it was.
- 19:23Power, wealth, If you ask a bad guy, you know.
- 19:29Yeah, Yeah, I can. Never have too much.
- 19:32Oh, that's interesting. And the idea of his famed like
- 19:35his famous helmet that makes him invisible.
- 19:37It's like Sidious cloak that he pulls up over his head and then
- 19:40all of a sudden no one can tell who his identity is.
- 19:43Well. I immediately thought of the
- 19:45invisibility cloak of of Harry Potter.
- 19:49Yes, which I love. I wish I had one I.
- 19:53Do too imagine the things you could do with your life.
- 19:57I would solve so many issues. Or maybe not, maybe not.
- 20:03Let's not go there. All right, so the next one I
- 20:07have is Athena. Oh yes, I have two choices for
- 20:11this one. First of all, Athena is what I
- 20:14would name my daughter if I ever had a daughter.
- 20:17It's she's my favorite Greek God goddess and I love owls because
- 20:22of her. And this all stemmed from like a
- 20:24grade school project, so. Same thing here 'cause we're
- 20:27still twins. Yes, of course.
- 20:29I thought, I thought it was your favorite too.
- 20:32So yeah. So who do you have and what is?
- 20:36What was the definition from your the author's?
- 20:40Point of view. She said that she was the
- 20:41daughter of Zeus alone. She had no mother.
- 20:45She sprang forth from Zeus's head, fully grown and in full
- 20:49armor. She is a fierce and ruthless
- 20:52battle goddess. Or she is warlike only to defend
- 20:55the state. Like, it kind of depends on
- 20:57which version of her. Sometimes she's just like ready
- 21:00to fuck things up, and other times it's only to like, protect
- 21:03the civilized life. She was Zeus's favorite child.
- 21:06He trusted her to carry his awful Aegis, his his like, his
- 21:10shield, the buckler, and his devastating weapon, the
- 21:13Thunderbolt. And I picked Ray for this.
- 21:17Oh, that's a good choice. I would not have expected that.
- 21:21Yeah, I was kind of like, oh, yeah, when I thought of it,
- 21:24'cause she is an orphan, but her father was a clone, I believe,
- 21:31right? Yeah.
- 21:33The idea of her not having a mother, which I know she did
- 21:36have a birth mother, but that that kind of ties together that
- 21:39she's like, kind of a clone, you know, of Palpatine.
- 21:44And she's able to be fierce as fuck, but she usually only wants
- 21:51to use that power for good. She doesn't just run around full
- 21:55of rage. She kind of, like, learned about
- 21:57her dark side and tried to control it.
- 22:00And like, she gets past the lightsaber and then the
- 22:02knowledge and all this stuff is very much to me like Athena.
- 22:06But yeah. What did you have?
- 22:09I had Ahsoka and. That's a good one too.
- 22:14For all the things that you described and what Wikipedia
- 22:16has, which is a huge list of of attributes, she's the goddess of
- 22:20reason, wisdom, intelligence, skill, peace, warfare, battle
- 22:25strategy, and handicrafts. OK, to me that was what the.
- 22:29Handicrafts gets yeah. Right.
- 22:31For her, right? Yeah.
- 22:33But craft that totally. It totally screams Ahsoka.
- 22:37It's kind of like the she's armed with this passed down
- 22:42shield and spear, right? Which I think is kind of like
- 22:44the knowledge that she was passed on from Anakin in a more
- 22:48symbolic sense. She carries a heavy load because
- 22:51she is the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker and to a lesser
- 22:55extent, but still still there. Obi Wan poets describe her as
- 23:00having especially bright, keen eyes, which I mean, anyone who
- 23:04knows Ahsoka knows about her eyes, right?
- 23:07Beautiful. And she is commonly shown being
- 23:10accompanied by her sacred animal, the owl, which I thought
- 23:13was a very close second to her little the sister, you know, the
- 23:20daughters, The Morai thing. Yeah.
- 23:22The Morai, Yeah. Totally, yes.
- 23:26I didn't even think of that. That's awesome.
- 23:28And she is. There's a lot of art of her with
- 23:30like her staff with the Morai on top of it was very much yes.
- 23:35Athena with the owl. Yeah, I just think it screams
- 23:41Ahsoka. But also, Ray, after you said
- 23:43that, I'm like, Oh my God, how did I see that?
- 23:44But you know, and she can be ruthless and she's a battler.
- 23:50She has great strategy. She's all of it.
- 23:52So. Yeah, well, and Ahsoka has that
- 23:55in Season 7 where she's with Rex and she doesn't want to hurt the
- 23:59clones. That's such a Athena thing where
- 24:03it's like she can, she could go out there and kill all of them
- 24:06if she doesn't want to, unless it's, you know, she doesn't want
- 24:10to perpetrate violence unless it's absolutely necessary,
- 24:14especially if she gets true, if she gets older, that's more and
- 24:18more how she she approaches things.
- 24:21When she was young, she would just like run in, you know, full
- 24:24cement head and not think about the consequences.
- 24:27Well, true. I mean, that's just part of
- 24:29being Anakin's padawan. Yes, she.
- 24:32Learned you know and and she do that was great.
- 24:36I like that That's that was a good one.
- 24:38This is cool. I love how we have totally
- 24:40different answers, but they work.
- 24:41Yeah. They work.
- 24:42Yep. All right.
- 24:44So who's next? The next one I have is Apollo.
- 24:48OK, OK. Like.
- 24:51Mine has a question mark next to it because like, yes and no.
- 24:55So Apollo is the God of light and whom is no darkness at all.
- 25:00So he is the God of truth. He was the God of divine
- 25:04distance who sent a threat from afar, the God who made men aware
- 25:09of their own guilt and purified them, who presided over
- 25:13religious law and the constitutions of cities, who
- 25:16communicated with mortals through prophets and oracles,
- 25:19his knowledge of the future and the wills of his father's Zeus.
- 25:22So I picked Luke for this. I also have Luke D for Apollo.
- 25:29Yes, the. Thing that makes me question it
- 25:33is Luke has darkness in him. Yeah.
- 25:36And he, he knows it. Like he's aware of it and maybe
- 25:39that's what makes him so good. I don't know.
- 25:43He's. Defined by the light though,
- 25:44because he made his choice and he chose light in the end.
- 25:47So you could say. Right.
- 25:49And I had to laugh, 'cause it said the God of divine distance
- 25:52who sent threats from afar. And that was so like the Last
- 25:56Jedi when he does that Force projection.
- 25:58Oh yeah, yeah, I didn't even think of that, 'cause that's
- 26:01never on my mind. But you're right, right?
- 26:06But then the God who made men aware of their own guilds and
- 26:09purified them is totally Luke and Vader.
- 26:13True. Very, so, very much so.
- 26:15Did you know he's a twin? Apollo has a twin, Yes.
- 26:18Exactly. So there's that.
- 26:21And I didn't realize it until I picked Leia for his twin.
- 26:25And then I was like, oh, they're twins.
- 26:27Well, look at. That.
- 26:30Works out perfect, doesn't it? I don't.
- 26:32Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 26:33OK yeah, so Wikipedia's description again with the list
- 26:37of traits, is the God of music, arts, knowledge, healing,
- 26:42plague, prophecy, poetry, manly beauty, and archery.
- 26:49Apollo is depicted as a young, beardless, handsome and athletic
- 26:53man. He can be cruel and destructive,
- 26:58and his love affairs are rarely happy.
- 27:01Oh man. This just seems like Luke to me
- 27:04or Obi Wan in that respect, but yeah.
- 27:06Honestly, both of them, it's just like, 'cause even if you
- 27:09like Legends Luke with Mara Jade like it just is, it doesn't end
- 27:13well. Yeah, not, not a lot of anything
- 27:16for Luke, ends that Great. So it's just just so.
- 27:21I like to live in a bubble where I pretend like he was just
- 27:24happy. I know, but it's Star Wars and
- 27:27we know that's not true. I know it's all it can never be
- 27:30true anyway. I thought that was, that was
- 27:34very, very Luke to me. Yeah, definitely the beautiful,
- 27:39like beardless boys. No lies detected.
- 27:42Nope. Zero lies detected.
- 27:47OK, so his twin is Artemis. Yes.
- 27:52And she was the lady of wild things, the Huntsman in chief to
- 27:57the gods, An odd office for a woman.
- 27:59So said this book, she was the protectress of Dewey youth.
- 28:05And on the other hand, she could be fierce and revengeful.
- 28:08And that's why I push Leia 'cause I thought she had, first
- 28:12of all, the Lady of Wild Things, Like, right?
- 28:15She's. This young lady who is in the
- 28:19head of the rebellion. Right.
- 28:21Like and she's dating Han Solo, the king of the wild thing.
- 28:28Exactly. The fact that they were twins, I
- 28:31was just like, Oh well, that's perfect it.
- 28:33Kind of it kind of works strangely well the Apollo and
- 28:37Artemis twinage here that I do wonder if there's some symbology
- 28:41there in in Star Wars, you know, yeah, famous twins throughout
- 28:46history. Apollo and Artemis are kind of
- 28:48in there. So you know that'd.
- 28:50Be a fun episode to do Famous Twins.
- 28:53It would be actually yeah, I I also had another option.
- 28:58I had Leia of course, but I also had Omega cuz she's also the
- 29:03twin sister of of what's his name.
- 29:07My brain is dead. Oh boba Boba.
- 29:12OK, so she is also she loves her bow and arrow.
- 29:16She's an archery you're. Fanatic.
- 29:21She's the goddess of hunt in wilderness, moon and young
- 29:24girls, and equipped with a silver hunting bow and quiver of
- 29:28arrows. Yeah, you'll always see any art
- 29:31of Artemis has her with her bow and arrows.
- 29:33Always. Pretty much.
- 29:34So I was like, oh, little Omega, that could be Omega too it.
- 29:38Really could be. That's a great choice because
- 29:40Artemis is also the maiden. You know, she's like youthful
- 29:44and. I mean, so is Leia.
- 29:45Leia is always shown as. I mean, everyone's iconic Leia
- 29:49is in that white dress, which they say she's dressed in a.
- 29:54A light. Chiton, chiton, chiton.
- 29:58How do you pronounce that? She's dressed in a dress that's
- 30:01light in color, so there. Yeah, that's a good choice.
- 30:09Next I have Aphrodite. Oh my God, OK this was a hard
- 30:14one for me but as soon as it came to me I said OK this is my
- 30:17choice. So I'm very curious to hear who
- 30:19you have. Yeah, so it sounds a little
- 30:23cliche and I almost hate to put her in this position, but
- 30:27Aphrodite isn't. Is Aphrodite different than
- 30:30Venus? Roman counterpart is Venus.
- 30:32Oh it. Is the Roman counterpart.
- 30:34Yeah. All right.
- 30:34Yeah, that's OK. That's what I thought.
- 30:36So she's the goddess of love and beauty who beguiled all gods and
- 30:41men alike. Without her, there is no joy nor
- 30:43loveliness anywhere. In later poems, she is usually
- 30:47shown as treacherous and malicious, exerting a deadly and
- 30:50destructive power over man. So I picked Padme because.
- 30:57She is. Beautiful and lovely, and Anakin
- 31:00is so smitten with her. And ultimately Anakin's downfall
- 31:04is because of her. I hate to say because of her,
- 31:07but like, you know, to simplify it.
- 31:09It was the fate. Yeah, like his obsession with
- 31:13her. And yeah, so she is like the
- 31:17deadly destructive power in his life without meaning to be.
- 31:21So it just happens to be the way fate put their lives together.
- 31:24Totally. So that's what I picked.
- 31:26But I I really struggled, honestly, to pick one.
- 31:29I'm curious who you chose. Please tell me you picked Cassie
- 31:32Nandor. I.
- 31:33I didn't. Damn it.
- 31:37I picked size noodles and I'm not joking, that was not.
- 31:44At all, I said. Yep, this is it.
- 31:48This is exactly it. For everything that you said, it
- 31:52reaffirmed why I picked size noodles as Aphrodite.
- 31:56Honest to God, it makes. Sense.
- 31:58Doesn't it Reread what you just told me and think of sigh.
- 32:02Because she is it OK? In addition, in addition she had
- 32:11many lovers, OK? She's usually depicted as naked
- 32:15or semi nude. OK.
- 32:22She's. Destructive pleasure, love,
- 32:26desire. She came from the severed
- 32:29genitals of Uranus. I just.
- 32:32I can't see it. I know.
- 32:35I she is a she seduces man, beast, creature, everything in
- 32:42between. Yep.
- 32:45Sigh, The this is a better choice.
- 32:48I can't. I'm sorry for putting Padme
- 32:51where I put her and I'm just going to let her.
- 32:53Padme is the obvious choice to dig a little deeper into the
- 32:57fact that we have a semi naked odd looking seducer of man and
- 33:05creatures. Yeah, you get size SO0.
- 33:10The Hut didn't stand a fucking chance.
- 33:12Nope. And why would he look at her?
- 33:14OK, Yeah, yeah, she. Knows what?
- 33:17She's all lips. She is and voice and the sway of
- 33:22her hips when she's going up to that Oh my little Peaches or
- 33:26whatever, she says. And she goes up to that cage
- 33:28that he's in. She's a seducer.
- 33:31Come on, she. Is she really is?
- 33:32She knows what she's got. She's not afraid to flaunt it.
- 33:35No, and I think she totally looks like she came from the
- 33:38severed genitals of Uranus, so yeah.
- 33:44I agree, Padme definitely does not deserve that, no.
- 33:48Padme is the literal beauty, Love, desire, pleasure.
- 33:52Sigh is kind of the hot mess alternative.
- 33:56Yes, yeah, I love so there. I stand by my choice.
- 34:03I like it. It's good, it's high quality.
- 34:08All right, so the next one I have is Hermes.
- 34:10Oh. OK, OK, OK.
- 34:11Yeah, I have two for this 'cause I couldn't decide.
- 34:14OK, so he was graceful and swift in motion, had wings on his
- 34:20sandals and his helmet, and he was a master thief, shrewd and
- 34:24cunning. So I was Han Solo.
- 34:27He was my second choice. He's the Millennium Falcon, has
- 34:31wings on his sandals. And then yes, Yeah, a shrewd
- 34:34thief. So yes, I thought Han suited it
- 34:37pretty good. But who did you have otherwise?
- 34:39My other choice was luth and rail.
- 34:42Oh, nice. Yeah, kind of the same lines of,
- 34:47you know. Yes, yeah, it is very similar.
- 34:50It's got this, this ship that has all these fancy.
- 34:54Oh, he and he can pilot that like we saw.
- 34:57He's good. He's real tricky.
- 34:59But in this list from Wikipedia, it says he's the God of
- 35:03boundaries, travel, trade, communication, language,
- 35:06writing, cunning, and thieves. He was also responsible for
- 35:10protecting livestock and presided over the spheres
- 35:13associated with music, luck, deception, and fertility.
- 35:17So he was also a messenger of the gods.
- 35:21And he was depicted as either a handsome and athletic beardless
- 35:25youth, Han, or an older bearded man, Lutheran.
- 35:30I mean, he had more facial hair, you know?
- 35:32But yeah, it's just. Lutheran wore a wig.
- 35:35We could call that his beard that.
- 35:37Too. I mean, he could transform
- 35:39literally quite easily. Didn't he have like stubble?
- 35:42I'm picturing him with stubble and kind of more he's he's more
- 35:45worn down. Yeah, he didn't have facial
- 35:48hair, but he was just old. Oh.
- 35:50Maybe I'm just thinking of wrinkles.
- 35:52Sorry, but I know fans. But like, he's just older and
- 35:56more worn than the athletic, beardless youth of Han Solo.
- 36:01But they're kind of the same. They're they're good.
- 36:03They're doing good. Maybe not through the means, but
- 36:06they're they're essentially good.
- 36:08Yeah. Lutheran really makes sense,
- 36:10especially with the description that you have because he's he's
- 36:13like watching over the livestock, but also can steal
- 36:16and be a thief and well, the livestock is.
- 36:19His group is what I got exactly his like little cadre of.
- 36:24They're literally living in a a stockade.
- 36:27With sheep, yeah. And he literally steals shit and
- 36:30resells it in his shop. Yeah, absolutely.
- 36:34But yeah, also Han for sure Han. Clearly.
- 36:38Like this is fun. The the Edith Hamilton stuff was
- 36:41kind of like super condensed and doesn't have all the.
- 36:44Well, these are, I liked them because they were quick like tip
- 36:47like 12345 things and I'm like, who does this fit?
- 36:50And then the more you get into it, the the less it kind of
- 36:54fits. But that's why I thought I'd
- 36:56read them. Yeah, that's great.
- 36:58So the last one I have is Aries. This is one of where I got some
- 37:02information from Wikipedia, because I actually preferred the
- 37:05description of Mars 'cause I think the Mars version of Aries
- 37:10really fits Anakin very well. Yeah, I have Anakin as well.
- 37:17I mean, it makes sense even with just the Aries description.
- 37:20So yeah, there's a few like really interesting tidbits about
- 37:24him, about Aries slash Mars that I think is why it fits Anakin so
- 37:29well. So he was viewed primarily as
- 37:32destructive and destabilizing, and he represented military
- 37:37power. So this is Anakin, not Vader.
- 37:40It's like, correct. The Clone Wars is what I'm
- 37:42thinking of a lot. So he saw military power is a
- 37:46way to secure peace, which is very revenge of the Sith.
- 37:50He had a love affair with Aphrodite.
- 37:54Not PSI, not PSI's noodles, but right, Right.
- 37:58Yeah. But Homer calls him murderous,
- 38:02blood stained, the Incarnate curse of mortals, and strangely
- 38:06a coward. Yet he has the train of
- 38:09attendance like a bunch of people following him on the
- 38:12battlefield which would inspire anyone with confidence.
- 38:14So I was thinking Ahsoka and Rex and like the five O first
- 38:18following him into battle and then everybody else is like who
- 38:21is this reckless asshole? What is he?
- 38:25Doing I just think of is it Yolaren who's like I had to be
- 38:31in place with Skywalker, you know, Yep.
- 38:34Yeah, so they all respected him for in the end he would win the
- 38:38battle. He got it done.
- 38:39He got it done. Totally time.
- 38:41Totally Aries. This is all Aries.
- 38:43I couldn't think of anyone else. He's also the most unpopular God
- 38:48on earth. Well, it's like when you need
- 38:53him, you need him. But again, he's like kind of a
- 38:56Dick. Yeah, it's like, oh shit, we
- 38:59know this is going to be messy because it's Skywalker.
- 39:02So. Yeah, exactly.
- 39:05Yeah. And I mean, anytime I think of
- 39:07anything that has to do with Mars, I think of red and and
- 39:12angry and, you know, not necessarily Mustafar, but I
- 39:15think like burnt, desolate. And that's essentially what
- 39:20Anakin becomes, is like an empty waste land of where there once
- 39:26something flourished, it's done. So the fact that he ends up
- 39:32being this kind of symbol of that kind of fits in with the
- 39:37Roman counterpart, which is Mars to to Aries and and.
- 39:41I, I do think that this only takes Anakin's negative traits
- 39:44kind of to into account. It's not all of Anakin obviously
- 39:48he's got the other side where he's very passionate and loving
- 39:51and like capable of deep feeling and affection.
- 39:54But like this is just for these purposes distilling him down
- 39:58into his worst traits and most difficult traits of that is why
- 40:02I think he fits Mars. But.
- 40:04Totally. Well, one more point.
- 40:06He generally represents the chaos of war in contrast to
- 40:10Athena, the goddess of military strategy and skill.
- 40:13And that's him and Ahsoka. So he is literally the contrast
- 40:17to Ahsoka AKA Athena in this instance, so I had to throw that
- 40:22in there as well. No, I think it's a great point.
- 40:24We see. How many times do we see by the
- 40:26end of Clone Wars where she's the one trying to like rein him
- 40:29in and being like what the fuck? I mean, slow down.
- 40:33She learned, she learned everything that made her her
- 40:38from Anakin, but at the same time she also learned what not
- 40:42to do from Anakin. And that's the best teacher.
- 40:46Yeah, is. Sometimes what goes unsaid, but
- 40:49you can interpret like, OK, I'm not going to be this way, I'm
- 40:52not going to do this. Yeah, at the same time that he's
- 40:55telling you what to do. So yeah, it kind of that's a
- 40:59perfect way to end this because it all comes back to that.
- 41:03So that was a fun list. I'm glad we did it this way.
- 41:05That was kind of a surprise, yeah.
- 41:07I feel like I've learned a lot. I feel like this is like when
- 41:10you'd go to class and you'd learn a bunch of fun stuff and
- 41:12it was like, oh, that's really cool.
- 41:14Yeah, yeah. I don't.
- 41:15I didn't remember a lot of these and, and reading them back, I
- 41:18was like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:20Forgot how twisted that one was or how awful this one was, you
- 41:24know. So it was nice to go back and do
- 41:26this. Hopefully it was enjoyable for
- 41:27everybody. It's just fun.
- 41:29It's a fun way to start a new season.
- 41:30Really. Yeah.
- 41:32I haven't read any of this stuff since college, so it was quite,
- 41:36quite a trip to go back and like read the actual stuff.
- 41:40You know, we've, we've talked about the mythology and the lore
- 41:44and all that in Star Wars, but like to actually go back and
- 41:47read it. It's, it's really cool.
- 41:49It was fun. I'm glad we did this.
- 41:51Yes, I I agree it was. Your idea so good.
- 41:54Great idea I. Love that.
- 41:56Well, I forgot it was my idea, so there.
- 42:07So our question for you this week is we're curious which of
- 42:12the Greek gods and or goddesses is your favorite?
- 42:16Was it on our list? And also who do you think it
- 42:19fits in the Star Wars world? Did we nail it or did did?
- 42:23Could you think of any others? Do you agree with size noodles
- 42:27being Aphrodite like or let us know.
- 42:31Hit us up on social media or send us an e-mail through our
- 42:34website. And in our next episode, we are
- 42:39going to do some predictions for Andor season 2.
- 42:43There was a little trailer, a little sneak peek that came out
- 42:47at D23 this year, and it got my brain going, both Tony Gilroy
- 42:53and Diego Luna saying it'll change the way you see Rogue
- 42:56One, which scares the living daylights out of me.
- 42:58But is very scary. Possibly yes.
- 43:02So I want to talk about some of the ideas that I had come into
- 43:06my mind and we can discuss predictions and what we're
- 43:10afraid of happening. Yes, yes.
- 43:13It's not, I don't think it's coming out until 2025, but I
- 43:16don't, I still don't think it's too early to talk.
- 43:18Listen. It's only it's only a few months
- 43:20away. You're right, actually.
- 43:23Holy shit. I mean.
- 43:23The start of 2025 anyway. Not necessarily and or, but
- 43:27still we're. Close to the end of the year,
- 43:30which is interesting it. Gives us an excuse to talk about
- 43:33and, or, which I mean, like, let's take it, yeah.
- 43:36I'll take any excuse. We know.
- 43:41I know it's no secret to anybody.
- 43:43We. Love you.
- 43:45So join us back for our next episode and we'll talk about
- 43:48that. And thanks so much for sticking
- 43:52it out and waiting for us to come back.
- 43:54We appreciate you all so very much.
- 43:58And thank you so much for joining us here all the time.
