- 0:00Speaker 1: The old on camera stadium proposal. What a story. It's
- 0:03Speaker 1: one more thing. So before we get to the tale,
- 0:11Speaker 1: I've got from an actual friend of mine who proposed
- 0:15Speaker 1: to his now wife at a baseball game on the
- 0:20Speaker 1: jumbo trunk. Before I get to that story, so something
- 0:25Speaker 1: happened over the weekend. T tell us what happened at
- 0:26Speaker 1: this Pacers game. I just saw some of the headlines
- 0:28Speaker 1: while I was traveling.
- 0:29Speaker 2: So you know, when they're you're watching the basketball games
- 0:31Speaker 2: or baseball games, they'll go to the jumbo tron and
- 0:34Speaker 2: kind of show couples that are in the stand. Well,
- 0:36Speaker 2: they honed in on this couple and they were having
- 0:39Speaker 2: a very intense conversation. Uh, mostly the guy talking, and
- 0:44Speaker 2: then the girl interrupts him and goes, oh, what the
- 0:49Speaker 2: fuck are you talking about?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and you could very clearly, I mean the body language,
- 0:53Speaker 1: and you can read her lips very clearly. It's pretty funny.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, And the whole time he's talking to her, she
- 0:58Speaker 2: just looks dead inside.
- 1:00Speaker 1: He's just like looking ahead, I've had enough.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, And so I know that look, yeah, there
- 1:07Speaker 3: you go.
- 1:07Speaker 2: And everybody on the internet was kind of going, what
- 1:10Speaker 2: were what were they arguing? About because all they got
- 1:12Speaker 2: all the only part of the conversation that's very clear
- 1:15Speaker 2: is what she said. So it just kind of went
- 1:18Speaker 2: around and they turned into a meme over the weekend,
- 1:21Speaker 2: but nobody knew exactly what was happening there.
- 1:24Speaker 1: So what did we figure out? It actually was before
- 1:27Speaker 1: we get to Shaquille O'Neill's interesting idea.
- 1:29Speaker 2: So they went on ESPN and they talked to Charles
- 1:33Speaker 2: Barkley and Shaq and that whole crew.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Wow. Uh.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And they so their names are Michael and Grace, and
- 1:40Speaker 2: they asked Michael what they were talking about, and he said,
- 1:45Speaker 2: and I quote, we were actually having a conversation about
- 1:48Speaker 2: the rigor of liberal arts education and how it needs
- 1:51Speaker 2: to be updated for the future job market.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah. And she she I'm having a you know,
- 1:59Speaker 1: high ale intellectual conversation at an NBA game.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And she disagreed with them, and she said, yeah, actually
- 2:05Speaker 2: the basketball I'm not a sports girl in the basketball
- 2:07Speaker 2: game was kind of interrupting our conversation. And then she
- 2:10Speaker 2: she goes and Shack, I love you, but I only
- 2:12Speaker 2: know you from your icy hot commercials.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Anyway, I could hang out with these people. As it
- 2:18Speaker 1: turns out, yeah, that's fantastic. Well, here's how it played
- 2:21Speaker 1: out in Shack's idea. Hold on, I'll tell you what.
- 2:23Speaker 1: If you ask her to marry you right now, I'll
- 2:25Speaker 1: buy the engagement ring. Oh I ain't. Don't listen to
- 2:28Speaker 1: it right now? Do it right now? You know your knee,
- 2:32Speaker 1: right now, I'll buy the ring. I'll sing them. Look
- 2:38Speaker 1: at her face. Man, if you guys agreed to come
- 2:40Speaker 1: to the wedding, we'll do that. Come to No, you can't.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You got to tell us what the wedding is first
- 2:46Speaker 1: before we could do that, ask her right now. Go ahead,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I don't agree to that. I'll tell you what I
- 2:52Speaker 1: wanted you. Let me tell you something. You've already cursed
- 2:56Speaker 1: him out on national television if you put him out
- 2:58Speaker 1: on television. So what led to that? That was really funny.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Right before that whole engagement ring conversation comes up, Shack goes,
- 3:12Speaker 2: come on, dude, tell us what you guys were actually
- 3:14Speaker 2: talking about, because that's bullshit that you were saying talking
- 3:17Speaker 2: about the rigor of liberal arts education. And you can
- 3:20Speaker 2: see the guy Michael was getting really uncomfortable and uh
- 3:26Speaker 2: he So Shack goes, so what'd you say to your
- 3:28Speaker 2: wife that made her say that, And then she goes, well,
- 3:30Speaker 2: it's girlfriend, not wife, And so that's where it's spun
- 3:33Speaker 2: where Shack's like, okay.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah it was. It was a funny exchange. Well,
- 3:38Speaker 1: that's an uncomfortable situation. I'll buy the ring if you
- 3:41Speaker 1: propose her right now. And she was like, I'd have
- 3:46Speaker 1: no saying who says I want to do this? Yeah,
- 3:48Speaker 1: one or both of them aren't interested in getting married. Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Well, and was it Shack or Chuck?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Who?
- 3:53Speaker 2: Ye?
- 3:54Speaker 1: You can say no? Right? Oh man, she's already yelled
- 4:02Speaker 1: at you on national television. How she turns it down
- 4:04Speaker 1: a border boarder board.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It's an amazing the little, the little moments that catch
- 4:09Speaker 2: like the entire world's attention though.
- 4:11Speaker 1: In the in the current state of things.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yeah, just I mean they were having a conversation, that
- 4:16Speaker 2: jumbo tron just happens to hit him and then bam,
- 4:18Speaker 2: you're everywhere.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Real human things we can all relate to seem to
- 4:23Speaker 1: get people's attention. Yeah, because the result not a lot
- 4:26Speaker 1: of that.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Okay, here's my story, Kyi. You haven't heard this. Joe's
- 4:31Speaker 1: heard this, but you haven't heard this okay, And a
- 4:33Speaker 1: lot of people, a lot of you who listened, probably
- 4:35Speaker 1: haven't heard because I told the story many many years ago.
- 4:37Speaker 1: This actually happened as a friend of mine, good friend mine.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I haven't talked to him in years, so I don't
- 4:40Speaker 1: know how if he's still married. But I knew her
- 4:44Speaker 1: and I knew him, and he is a really good, successful,
- 4:46Speaker 1: smart guy. But this was an odd choice he made. Uh,
- 4:51Speaker 1: he had. They'd been dating quite a while. It was
- 4:56Speaker 1: definitely getting to the and she was suggesting it was
- 4:58Speaker 1: getting to the either we need to get married or
- 5:02Speaker 1: we I got to end this situation. And he had
- 5:07Speaker 1: set up a deal at the Atlanta Braves baseball game
- 5:11Speaker 1: at the stadium to propose to her on the camera. No, no, no, no,
- 5:15Speaker 1: that's not what it was. I take it back, same result,
- 5:18Speaker 1: but a different sort of thing. He had worked it
- 5:21Speaker 1: out the camera, but he had a flyover. He had
- 5:24Speaker 1: hired a plane to fly over to say his name
- 5:27Speaker 1: was Jason. I don't remember what her name was, but
- 5:30Speaker 1: you know, Madison, will you marry me? And then they
- 5:35Speaker 1: were going to have the camera on them for the
- 5:36Speaker 1: yeah and all that sort of stuff. Well, they've been
- 5:38Speaker 1: together for quod a while, so I don't think anyway.
- 5:40Speaker 1: On the drive from we all lived in Charlotte, North Carolina,
- 5:43Speaker 1: Joe and I and Jason and Madison olive not together.
- 5:47Speaker 1: We didn't live together.
- 5:48Speaker 3: We looked like a monkey.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Anyway, my friend Jason. They're driving to Atlanta, which was
- 5:54Speaker 1: a four hour drive to Atlantic to go to a
- 5:56Speaker 1: baseball game, and on the way they get into she
- 6:00Speaker 1: brings up the whole You know, I'm tired of this.
- 6:04Speaker 1: You keep dodging it. When are we going to get married?
- 6:08Speaker 1: And he didn't want to give I don't know if
- 6:11Speaker 1: because he felt like he invested so much money in
- 6:13Speaker 1: this or what he didn't want to give an inch
- 6:15Speaker 1: on this, like any hint. It just is more like
- 6:18Speaker 1: as he told it to me, I wasn't in the car,
- 6:22Speaker 1: like I can't take this conversation anymore. I don't want
- 6:25Speaker 1: to talk about it right now. Around she got really
- 6:27Speaker 1: mad and they end up driving several hours in silence.
- 6:31Speaker 1: One of those deals, one of those you had a
- 6:33Speaker 1: disagreement and now you're locked in the car. And if
- 6:36Speaker 1: you've ever been through this, it is just the worst.
- 6:39Speaker 1: It is icy in there driving in silence. Yeah, does
- 6:42Speaker 1: this thinking any I can barely keep my hands on
- 6:46Speaker 1: the wheel. It is cold in hair. Oh it's funny.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Until I said those words, I hadn't thought about that
- 6:52Speaker 1: in a long time, but I've done a few of
- 6:53Speaker 1: those in my life. That driving in silence, because there
- 6:56Speaker 1: was just a dust uff of some sort, I'd read
- 7:00Speaker 1: to be beaten with a stick. No kidding, yeah, oh please,
- 7:04Speaker 1: no kidding. Can I have all my teeth pulled by pliers?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Or do this? I'll gumb my food from here on out.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I don't want to do this anyway. He didn't give
- 7:15Speaker 1: an inch on that. They drove in steely silence all
- 7:17Speaker 1: the way to the game, walked into the stadium in silence,
- 7:21Speaker 1: sat down in silence, and went through several innings. I
- 7:24Speaker 1: don't remember what inning. It finally happened before the plane
- 7:26Speaker 1: flew over, and then she was just she fell apart
- 7:28Speaker 1: in tears, and they were up on the jumbo tron
- 7:31Speaker 1: and she said, yes, they got married, and it was
- 7:32Speaker 1: all great, but oh wow, oh my god. I wouldn't
- 7:39Speaker 1: stick to the bit through. I was just gonna say,
- 7:42Speaker 1: what would you eat?
- 7:44Speaker 2: The silent car ride, and the hours sitting in the
- 7:48Speaker 2: stands of that.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I don't know if I would give it. I wouldn't
- 7:51Speaker 1: give it away completely, but I might go with Look,
- 7:54Speaker 1: I've got a really good answer for this, but I
- 7:57Speaker 1: don't want to tell you what it is. Yeah, like
- 7:59Speaker 1: some sort of into the bag.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I've got a giant surprise for you. But that's
- 8:04Speaker 3: all I'm going to tell you. Oh, but you know
- 8:07Speaker 3: it's you know, it's so interesting about this, and I.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Always nag me about this. I can't have this conversation again.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Steely silence.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Oh that's a gamble. That is such a gamble because
- 8:19Speaker 3: I couldn't remember how the story ended, honestly, and I've
- 8:22Speaker 3: heard plenty of stories of the woman saying not only no,
- 8:24Speaker 3: but go to hell, putting me under this sort of
- 8:27Speaker 3: pressure in front of a crowd.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Goodbye. Yeah, but yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Okay, so it went the right way. But so I've
- 8:32Speaker 3: got to admit, and I'm really trying to figure out
- 8:35Speaker 3: if this is just I'm justifying what I did as
- 8:40Speaker 3: opposed to looking at it rationally. I've never been comfortable
- 8:45Speaker 3: with the whole dude is going to decide when and
- 8:50Speaker 3: the woman's desperate to be asked dynamic. I've never been
- 8:55Speaker 3: comfortable with that, and it's just I don't know. It
- 9:01Speaker 3: was just such a mutual thing with Judy and me
- 9:03Speaker 3: back in the day. It was, you know, we're staying together,
- 9:06Speaker 3: we might as well get married. Huh, yep, I agree,
- 9:08Speaker 3: that was.
- 9:09Speaker 1: That was it. There wasn't a formal.
- 9:14Speaker 3: There was when we got the ring, mostly for fun
- 9:19Speaker 3: and to make it quote unquote official.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Ah, but yeah, that was it.
- 9:23Speaker 3: No, we'd one hundred percent decide it together what we're
- 9:25Speaker 3: going to do, I you know, which is the way
- 9:28Speaker 3: we decide everything in our lives. And I just and
- 9:31Speaker 3: I'm not poop pulling it because it can be very
- 9:33Speaker 3: exciting and romantic and blah blah blah and joyous. It
- 9:36Speaker 3: just again, it just strikes me as a little odd.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I just told the story about when Drew proposed to
- 9:41Speaker 2: me actually earlier this weekend.
- 9:42Speaker 1: He I'm such a dick.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I was in the kitchen, thank you, Thank you, Gladys.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I was in the kitchen.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Just married nine times. So Gladys, we're not interested in
- 9:55Speaker 1: your opinion on this.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Nine times could hold him down aerial marrow. Several of
- 10:01Speaker 3: them died under circumstances that were difficult to explan.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Engage nine times not married nine time. It's the whole milk.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Why buy the milk? Of the milk is free, Gladys
- 10:12Speaker 1: don't understand why you don't get.
- 10:13Speaker 3: That twice to Milton Burrow, Oh yeah, on again, off again.
- 10:20Speaker 2: But it was very similar to your situation, Joe. Like
- 10:22Speaker 2: we we were like, okay, well we're gonna get married
- 10:24Speaker 2: that we agreed to it. And and uh, I was
- 10:27Speaker 2: standing in the kitchen and I was in my underwear
- 10:29Speaker 2: cooking bacon.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Wow, that is like, that's hot. Worked together, but that's hot,
- 10:37Speaker 1: that's all right, And bacon in your underwear. Damn. So
- 10:40Speaker 1: Drew comes into the kitchen its own website, but.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Only if you are standing next to my new golf books?
- 10:47Speaker 3: Could that picture be any more amazing? Look what I
- 10:53Speaker 3: got you? Oh, the bacon's almost done.
- 10:57Speaker 2: And he comes into the kitchen and he's behind me
- 11:00Speaker 2: and he's just like gushing about how great I am
- 11:04Speaker 2: and how much he loves me, and I'm like, I
- 11:08Speaker 2: hear him start to choke up, and in.
- 11:09Speaker 1: My head, I'm like, what is wrong with you? Are
- 11:11Speaker 1: you okay? And I turned around and he was on
- 11:13Speaker 1: one knee.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Oh, but it was My initial reaction was like, what
- 11:17Speaker 2: the hell are you all right back there.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you smelled bacon. There was bacon in the air,
- 11:22Speaker 1: bacon and eacon there.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I think that's initially, I think that's why he walked
- 11:26Speaker 2: into the kitchen to begin with, because he smelled that.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And then it turned into, ah, she's cooking bacon in
- 11:32Speaker 1: her underwear. I got to marry this one. Put her
- 11:33Speaker 1: ring on it.
- 11:34Speaker 3: That's a keeper.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I guess that's it.
