Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: When you hit off with your mates and you just
- 0:02Speaker 1: crack gags.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Added a lot of colour, humour.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Time.
- 0:07Speaker 2: He went to boss level. For barra's bits. Have some
- 0:10Speaker 2: of this. Bang.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Gold 96 FM.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I have been a bit naughty. Actually, a lot. Very naughty. Well,
- 0:21Speaker 2: be done. And I've let the old man in. The
- 0:25Speaker 2: old man in? I've let the old man in. Um.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Makes a change to letting the old man out.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I've been told you, I mean, I'm not that old,
- 0:32Speaker 1: but I haven't told you about my philosophy on life now.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I actually got it. This is no bull does. I
- 0:39Speaker 2: got it from Clint Eastwood.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I did not personally, not personally, but I've been tracking
- 0:45Speaker 1: him cause he looks amazing for a hundred. Right.
- 0:47Speaker 2: And I was thinking, how's he done this?
- 0:48Speaker 1: How's he getting out there, making movies, you know, stomping
- 0:51Speaker 1: around the joint, still shooting bad guys. You know, he's
- 0:54Speaker 1: moved on from dirty Harry and, go ahead and make
- 0:57Speaker 1: my day and all that sort of stuff.
- 0:58Speaker 2: No, it's go ahead and make my bed. Make my lunch.
- 1:02Speaker 2: He's 96 just to... Make my early dinner.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah, make my early dinner and make it soft.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Soft food. Make my puree. Do I feel lucky? Well,
- 1:12Speaker 2: do you, punk? What is the motto? Oh, so it's
- 1:17Speaker 2: don't let the old man in.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Oh, right.
- 1:19Speaker 2: And it's his famous line.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Well, there are his other famous lines, but his best
- 1:23Speaker 1: line now is don't let the old man in.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And he got it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: He actually, his mate Toby Keith, do you guys know
- 1:29Speaker 1: him from Country Music Singer?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Oh, I've heard of him. Yeah, yeah. He even wrote
- 1:33Speaker 2: a song about Clinton's philosophy.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Actually, have you got a little bit? Let's play a
- 1:37Speaker 1: little bit for our listeners. This is a little bit
- 1:40Speaker 1: of the, it was in the late 80s anyway.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Get up and go outside. Don't let the old man in.
- 1:54Speaker 3: And it is beautiful.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It's a real banger, isn't it, that one? It's an
- 1:56Speaker 2: up and about.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Okay, I'll explain it. So the answer is don't let
- 2:02Speaker 1: the old man in. So it's simple. It's bloody brilliant.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I'm not that old, but your philosophy is that every
- 2:08Speaker 1: day you don't let the old man get through the
- 2:11Speaker 1: front door.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Okay, so.
- 2:13Speaker 1: You stay fit. You keep active. You look after yourself.
- 2:18Speaker 2: So it's not letting your state of mind change.
- 2:20Speaker 1: It's keeping a young state of mind. Yeah, it's not
- 2:22Speaker 1: sitting on the couch watching TV or it's not staying
- 2:25Speaker 1: in bed. It's not going to the gym. And I
- 2:30Speaker 1: have fallen into the trap because it's been busy, you know, finals, dockers,
- 2:33Speaker 1: all that, that magnificent beast telethon.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Footy, yeah, so footy finals, the usual work stuff, you know,
- 2:41Speaker 1: my daughter and my son and stuff, you know, exams.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And so I stopped practicing what I preach, which is
- 2:48Speaker 1: don't let the old man in. And so the gym
- 2:50Speaker 1: went out the window.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Oh, and he snuck in. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Health checks.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Health checks is a big one too. And I'm on
- 2:57Speaker 1: the scales. I'm 103 kilos. I'm going, oh, my God.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I've let the old man in. He's getting on top
- 3:02Speaker 1: of me. And he does get on top of you.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You get a sore hip or your knee or your
- 3:06Speaker 1: creak and stuff. You're not doing weight-bearing exercise. You've gone
- 3:10Speaker 1: back to Pilates, right?
- 3:11Speaker 2: I've started. And you're nowhere near an old woman. No,
- 3:14Speaker 2: I've started Pilates. I have my third class today. Let's
- 3:18Speaker 2: not call it too early. Yes. Is that when it
- 3:23Speaker 2: gets a bit easier? I hope so. You've still got
- 3:26Speaker 2: the jelly legs? You've still got those jelly legs? They're
- 3:29Speaker 2: still a bit sore, yeah. I love that.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So to all the guys out there, Um, that's how
- 3:35Speaker 1: he sneaks in. He doesn't kick the door down the
- 3:38Speaker 1: old man. He just sneaks in and he, you skip
- 3:40Speaker 1: a workout.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You're not looking. Yeah. You postpone a doctor's appointment. You
- 3:43Speaker 2: make one more.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Excuse that you're too busy or you put yourselves, you
- 3:47Speaker 1: put yourself last. I recommend a classic at doing that
- 3:50Speaker 1: in families.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Putting themselves last.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah. But really you.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Should maintain your health because. prioritize it because if your
- 3:58Speaker 1: cup is empty, how are you going to help anyone else?
- 4:00Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 4:00Speaker 3: I reckon, I mean, cause I don't have kids, so I'm,
- 4:03Speaker 3: I'm not a mother, but I would dare say mothers
- 4:05Speaker 3: are probably the, the ones that put themselves absolutely last
- 4:09Speaker 3: in defense of my friends that are mothers. I see
- 4:11Speaker 3: how they, you know, they definitely are last on the list.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Parents maybe. And so don't let the old woman in
- 4:18Speaker 2: as well.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So make sure you go to the doctor. Make a
- 4:23Speaker 1: few changes. Get back to walking the dog.
- 4:26Speaker 3: So you're coming to Pilates with me today?
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'm thinking about it. I'm drinking more water. Let's fall
- 4:32Speaker 2: off the machine together. What about cutting back on beer? Stretching.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Stretching as well as Pilates.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Stretching is awesome.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And I tell you, you have to do weight-bearing exercise.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You do. I used to think you didn't have to.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I thought it was bull twang.
- 4:45Speaker 1: No.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Good for your bones. You do.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And book that overdue GP appointment.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Just don't let the old man in.
- 4:52Speaker 1: He's not even that old. I'm not even that old,
- 4:54Speaker 1: but I'm starting again. All right.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Don't let him grab the remote and sit next to you.
- 4:59Speaker 2: That sort of thing. Wise words from Barra.
