- 2:00It's called the Enchanted Pear. It's got Saint George spiced
- 2:04pear liqueur, house made cinnamon syrup, vodka and lemon
- 2:08juice for the whopping cost of 10 bucks. 10 bucks. $10
- 2:15cocktail. I would have 4 of.
- 2:17Those. That would be maybe 5, maybe 5
- 2:22maybe. Maybe.
- 2:24Five you think you could drink? You think you could drink more
- 2:26of those pear cocktails or eat pears?
- 2:31Like a pear of cocktails? Without a doubt.
- 2:34I don't think I've actually ever eaten a raw pear like either,
- 2:38just from the grocery store. Like a canned pear.
- 2:41I have no. No, no, I mean like a a whole
- 2:43pear. You think you could drink more
- 2:45of those drinks than you could eat a pear?
- 2:47Without a doubt. I don't even know what a raw
- 2:50pear tastes like. Oh my God, where?
- 2:53What are we talking about? What kind of uncultured program
- 2:58are we running here? We're a couple, we're a couple
- 3:01booze bags, man. It's it's fine.
- 3:03It's fine. It's totally fine.

- 3:31Buyer, buyer, Koozies Wildcat Country, let's ride all right,
- 3:36boys, men's hoops, men's hoops. It's it's something we can we
- 3:41can call it that. It's something starting off O
- 3:45and one in Big 12 play 9 and six overall.
- 3:48They are currently ranked 72nd in Ken Palm and 65th in the net
- 3:53rankings, which would have them right on the bubble, very
- 3:56solidly on the bubble. But I think we're we're missing
- 3:59a couple marquee wins is what I would say.
- 4:01You got an opportunity for that though.
- 4:03Tomorrow. Yesterday, rather.
- 4:05We're recording this on Tuesday, but this episode's going to drop
- 4:08on Thursday, so the game already happened.
- 4:12Maybe we should just drop the hoops pod first, I don't know.
- 4:16Swap them together. We'll drop them together.
- 4:20We're. Going to I I honestly feel like
- 4:22how we how we think the Arizona game is going to occur, like how
- 4:26we actually think the game will is going to be exactly how it
- 4:29occurs on Thursday when people are listening to this.
- 4:32So OK. How do you think it's going?
- 4:37To go did. We cover the 21.
- 4:40No, I think Arizona is going to win the national championship.
- 4:47I think this is the national championship team.
- 4:49I think Arizona is that good and we are not.
- 4:55So I think we're going to lose by like 30.
- 5:00I just Arizona, yeah, Arizona is really good.
- 5:09Like the the talent on that team just works.
- 5:13And I was a big fan of their point guard Bradley last year.
- 5:17He's gotten better. They have a freshman Co Opete
- 5:21who's a top three freshman in the country.
- 5:24I mean, it's we're gonna get out rebounded.
- 5:29We're gonna get out rebounded. By a lot.
- 5:31By a lot like we were in BYU, I and I, they just can't put the
- 5:41ball in the basket right now. Can.
- 5:43They, I think what's going to happen is I think we're going to
- 5:47get a favorable whistle in Tucson.
- 5:50I think PJ had. In what world?
- 5:52On what planet? I'm just letting you know I've
- 5:55had premonitions before and I had one.
- 5:58I think we're going to get a favorable whistle in Tucson.
- 6:02I think this is going to be a 5 to 6 point game at halftime.
- 6:07I think Abby Bashir is going to find the three-point bucket.
- 6:11I pretty hot start. I think we keep it within 5 to
- 6:166. I think we probably end up
- 6:17losing by 12, but I think there's going to be a favorable
- 6:21whistle that will keep us in the game for a lot longer than we
- 6:25think. PJ Haggerty The you know, the
- 6:29issue with PJ is, I mean, he scores the bucket fine.
- 6:33The problem is he gets to the free throw line.
- 6:37He just doesn't make free throws, which is really weird.
- 6:40I don't know if it's the yips or whatever, but he he's not the
- 6:43best three free throw shooter, which is really strange.
- 6:47But I think for this game particular, rebounding is going
- 6:51to be the main issue. I think defensively they're so
- 6:55big that it can cause some spacing when we go small.
- 7:00It could be a problem for them on the defensive end for them,
- 7:05but I think PJ Haggerty getting to the basket is going to get
- 7:09some foul calls and and keep it close.
- 7:10I think he's going to keep it close.
- 7:12I think 20 1/2 is way too big of a number.
- 7:16It could be a boom or bust, but I think the whistle is going to
- 7:18keep us in the game. I think 20 is a very appropriate
- 7:22number. I don't know if you've looked at
- 7:24the scouting report on Arizona this year, but they're first in
- 7:27the nation in the AP poll. They are second in Ken Palm in
- 7:30the NET rankings currently. They have wins against #4U at
- 7:35the time, UConn by 4. They beat number.
- 7:39Let's see, Auburn was unranked I think at the time, but they beat
- 7:43Auburn by 30. Basically.
- 7:46They beat Alabama by 21 and they beat, let's see, they beat UCLA
- 7:53by 4. So they've they've got a damn
- 7:55good resume coming into this game.
- 7:57They are 14 and O1 and O in Big 12 play.
- 8:01And they also beat the defending champion Florida Gators to open
- 8:05the season this year. So yeah.
- 8:08They were. Going to win a good team, but
- 8:11they're beating, they're beating good teams in the top 15 by 20
- 8:16and 30 points. I mean, they've had their
- 8:19nights, they've had their nights.
- 8:20I think K State can have a night too.
- 8:22I'm not going to say that we're going to win.
- 8:24I think we're going to keep it close and I think a lot has to
- 8:26do with the referees. We've seen this game from last
- 8:30season, obviously a totally different team, but the
- 8:33physicality when we did beat them in Manhattan was at a
- 8:37different level. It was just the physicality was
- 8:40there and the whistles became a problem and and college
- 8:43basketball is like that if especially for that BYU game,
- 8:48the difference was we didn't take advantage of when Debonce
- 8:52was on the bench. But this game, I think if we get
- 8:56some of their bigs in foul trouble early, it makes it more
- 9:00of an even game where we're not getting out rebounded by 25
- 9:04because I knew there's a possibility we can get out
- 9:06rebounded by 20. There is a chance, especially if
- 9:09they're not shooting it great, their offensive glass could go
- 9:12crazy. But if we're getting their bigs
- 9:14in foul trouble, we've got to get PJ to the basket.
- 9:17We've got to make sure that the fouls are going our direction.
- 9:21I think it can happen. I think it can happen.
- 9:23We're streaky, 3 point shooting team.
- 9:26Abdi Bashir, you drained 3 threes in a row.
- 9:30We're in this game. Streaky's a word for it,
- 9:33certainly, Matt. Your thoughts on the matchup
- 9:36against Arizona? We're screwed now.
- 9:46I I the BYU game, I actually thought we were going to win
- 9:52that game before and yet again, I watched that game and you live
- 10:02and die on the offensive side by making threes and this team
- 10:05can't rebound and struggles on the defensive end.
- 10:10Arizona is my not miles better than BYU, but Arizona I think is
- 10:15the best team in the country. We are on the road.
- 10:19I, I just have zero confidence in this team.
- 10:21I really do, you know, we're what, 716 games in?
- 10:28And I mean, this team is poorly constructed and I just don't
- 10:33think they're coached well enough on the defensive side,
- 10:35you know, to to keep them in games against good teams,
- 10:38especially on the road. So I just do do not think this
- 10:43is a game that K State is going to keep close.
- 10:47They'll struggle shooting, they'll lose on offensive
- 10:50rebounds and it's just a bad matchup for us.
- 10:54So not covering 21 points. Looking back on the BYU matchup,
- 11:00because we haven't really chatted about that one, K State
- 11:03ended up dropping to 9 and six with that.
- 11:05With that loss to BYU at home, they did keep it close.
- 11:09I feel like for a majority of the game, K State was within
- 11:12striking distance for a good chunk of it.
- 11:14I didn't get to watch it but was trying to follow along as as
- 11:16closely as as I could. End up losing by 1083 to 73.
- 11:21K State shot 42% from the field, but we're pretty horrible from
- 11:25beyond the arc. 3 for 21, which is just streaky is a word for
- 11:31it. I don't know if that's the word
- 11:33I would use for it. I would say that was an anemic
- 11:36effort against BYU. They were out rebounded also by
- 11:3912 by BYU 47 to 35 on the on the glass.
- 11:44It came both on the offensive and the defensive glass.
- 11:46They were out rebounded on in both phases and they just didn't
- 11:50have as many second chance points as BYU in the match up.
- 11:53I guess Silver Linings from from the game against BYU would be
- 11:56they only turned it over 12 times, which anytime a Tang team
- 12:00turns it over 12 or fewer times is, is a good thing generally.
- 12:05B, they turned BYO over 19 times on case they had 17 points off
- 12:10turnovers, which I, I feel like that combination would would
- 12:13normally indicate, hey, K state has a chance to win this game
- 12:17And, and they, they realistically they had BYU at
- 12:20arm's length at the under 2, keeping it, you know, under 10
- 12:24at that point. K State also dominated points in
- 12:27the paint, 48 to 32 points in the paint, which you're getting
- 12:31out rebounded, but you're dominating points in the paint.
- 12:33So that I guess that indicates PJ was was getting getting in
- 12:36the lane driving to the basket. Castillo was getting in the lane
- 12:39driving to the basket as well because I don't think it was
- 12:41Buca putting up those points. And then the last thing I'll say
- 12:44is you were 74% from the stripe, but you only had 19 free throw
- 12:47opportunities to BYU's 27. So it's kind of a mixed bag when
- 12:53you look at the stats and look at how the game played out.
- 12:56But what what do you think about the effort against BYU in that
- 13:00first Big 12 game? Go ahead, Matt, go ahead.
- 13:05Go ahead, Matt. OK, I'll go.
- 13:08I thought it was obviously they have they have NBA talent on
- 13:12that BYU roster and it it showed at the very beginning.
- 13:16AJ Debonza is a difference maker.
- 13:18But I like I said, foul trouble is the is the great equalizer
- 13:24when you have a talent discrepancy.
- 13:27The issue was we made a game plan to try to make it AJ show
- 13:34to make it that he has to beat us.
- 13:37Everybody else is going to do their own thing.
- 13:39Once he left, it was kind of like the game plan fell apart.
- 13:44Like, man, we don't have the one guy that we're supposed to guard
- 13:47and like make sure that our position, our defensive position
- 13:51is focused on him and all this stuff or focus on everybody else
- 13:57and let AJ do his thing. Once he got out, corner 3
- 14:02started falling. The transition for them was
- 14:06actually really, really quick. They had a lot more ball
- 14:10handlers than I. I thought, you know, I didn't
- 14:13watch a lot of BYU basketball, but the little bit that I did,
- 14:16it was mostly AJ was kind of doing all the ball handling.
- 14:20So once he left the game, I thought that was our perfect
- 14:23opportunity to either take the lead or keep it within arm's
- 14:29length. But they kind of separated more.
- 14:32They did most of their separating when AJ was off on
- 14:36the bench and not on the floor. So it it was really concerning
- 14:40that our game plan fell apart. Not shooting the ball, great
- 14:44points in the paint. I think that is the key to most
- 14:48of our victories because like I, I think we're a streaky team.
- 14:51Maybe that just means we're not a very good 3 point shooting
- 14:54team. But if if we're getting points
- 14:57in the paint, that gives us a better opportunity for a guy
- 15:01like Abdi Bashir to get more open threes instead of the more
- 15:05contested threes that he's been in the circus shots that he's
- 15:08been kind of making. And we're just not very deep
- 15:13either. Like, I mean, we were, we were
- 15:15down some players, you know, I'm not going to pronounce his name.
- 15:21Right, we were out. Elias was out in this game.
- 15:25Elias was out for this game, so that does not help, especially
- 15:30the front court, like it's it's we're just so thin.
- 15:33We're not very big. It's it's a multitude of factor.
- 15:37Like Matt said, we're the team is not constructed great.
- 15:40And I don't know if Tang will ever construct a great team.
- 15:43I don't know, but it's not going the way that we planned and when
- 15:51the whistles aren't going P JS way, the team is not great and I
- 15:55think in some games we are going to get that whistle and we're
- 15:58going to look a lot better so. I actually thought in this game
- 16:02he he got more whistles, he got more more calls in this game
- 16:09than previous ones. I made a comment about that, but
- 16:16the the fact of the matter is like this is a team that needs
- 16:20to be making outside shots of sticking games.
- 16:22And if you're 3 for 21, you aren't winning a lot of games.
- 16:27I like, and it's not just BYU. You're you're not going to win a
- 16:31lot of games in Big 12 play if you shoot that poorly from
- 16:34behind the arc. And that is one of your like big
- 16:38things with this team is the outside shooting.
- 16:43So the thing with the BYU game, I mean, you had opportunities
- 16:47with AJ on the bench with in foul trouble and you can't cover
- 16:52Richie Saunders or Kiba Kita gets a key offensive rebound
- 16:58and, you know, either passes it out to Robert Wright or, you
- 17:02know, Boscovich, the guy off the bench, he made a few threes.
- 17:06And you know, like the the defense was just so poor against
- 17:10BYU and but that's been something that we've seen this
- 17:13year. And again, now you're playing
- 17:16really good teams in Big 12 play the gauntlet doesn't necessarily
- 17:21stop. And that's why I, you know, an
- 17:24Arizona game. Like I'd be writing off the
- 17:27Arizona game, you know, at the beginning of the year, because I
- 17:29thought Arizona was going to be really good.
- 17:31And they've shown through the season that they've been really
- 17:33good. But Arizona State, like Arizona
- 17:37State is not necessarily a great team, but man, like I just, it's
- 17:42just hard for me watching this K state team and thinking that
- 17:48they're, they're good. Like I, I just I I, I, I mean,
- 17:53it's really stinks to say because I think PJ is a talented
- 17:58player. He's obviously a great scorer.
- 18:04He does for the most part, I think things really well.
- 18:08That's just the supporting cast is not necessarily at a game to
- 18:12game basis meeting what I think the expectations are for PJ to
- 18:17try and lead this team to wins and that's just with how this
- 18:21team is constructed. So we'll see tomorrow night.
- 18:26Yeah. And, and I do think with PJ and
- 18:28a lot of these guys on this roster, there is more of a give
- 18:31a shit factor that we didn't see necessarily with guys like
- 18:34Coleman Hawkins last year. So I, I or Doug, I mean, Doug
- 18:38was kind of just an ass. But yeah, I, I, I feel like this
- 18:42team, at least from a chemistry and personality standpoint, is
- 18:45certainly more of what Tang and the staff wanted.
- 18:48But it's, I mean, the roster construction itself, it's been a
- 18:51problem since year 2 with Tang when when you lose your best
- 18:56player, it's like, dude, there's there's no next man up.
- 18:59So yeah, I'm, I'm very much still out.
- 19:02I I guess looking ahead to the Arizona State game, they have
- 19:06the same record as K State right now, nine and five overall, I
- 19:10guess nine and six overall. I don't know.
- 19:13It's they're, they basically they, they got the same record
- 19:15as K State. Owen won a Big 12 play, 85th in
- 19:18Ken Palm, 85th in the net. They do have some interesting
- 19:22wins. They've beaten Oklahoma, Texas
- 19:24and Washington State, but they've got losses to Gonzaga,
- 19:26USCUCLA, Oregon State and they open up Big 12 play with a loss
- 19:31to Colorado, which is not exactly the most shining loss to
- 19:35have on one's resume as it stands today.
- 19:37They're they're also playing BYU Wednesday night, January 7th.
- 19:42So as as we're recording this Tuesday night.
- 19:44So they're going to have the same test that we just had.
- 19:47It's going to be interesting to see how they fare against the
- 19:50Cougars of Brigham Young. But yeah, I'm not super
- 19:54optimistic about this road trip in general.
- 19:56K State has not played great on the road under Coach Tang.
- 20:00Across the board there are a couple of examples of having
- 20:03played well, like the game in Omaha a couple of weeks ago, but
- 20:06outside of that there aren't a ton of examples of of Tang
- 20:09getting good Rd. Wins.
- 20:11Stuck with this. Yes, we are stuck.
- 20:15We are. We are.
- 20:17Just get excited. Get excited for 20262027.
- 20:22We're going to do the same thing.
- 20:25Man, it's just there's no, we've had this conversation so many
- 20:30times, like what is the identity?
- 20:34What is it? I thought Driscoll could come in
- 20:37here and maybe change some things up.
- 20:39You know, he get, he changes his staff around a little bit, but
- 20:42it's just the same shit. It's it's tough, man.
- 20:47It is very, very tough to watch it and college basketball is not
- 20:51that difficult. It's not that difficult.
- 20:55Well, in terms of like getting the most out of your players,
- 20:59like even the lower, like most college basketball players, if
- 21:05you're inspiring them, they play harder, they play better.
- 21:08And we have enough talent on the roster to do some things.
- 21:13We're just, it's not constructed in the right way.
- 21:15We're not big, we're small. We don't shoot it particularly
- 21:20well. And I don't, I don't, I don't
- 21:22know. It's just, it's just so weird.
- 21:24The Tyreke Smith debacle is a massive error.
- 21:31The staff didn't. I mean, you could you, you could
- 21:38this team be better with Tyreke Smith?
- 21:43I think they would rebound better.
- 21:45You would have like you would basically be giving him the
- 21:49minutes that book is getting. Oh God, you.
- 21:53Know be even here? Who knows, But no, probably not,
- 21:58right? What?
- 21:59No, we, we signed him. We signed him after Tyreke
- 22:02Smith's waiver. No, no, no.
- 22:03Yeah, Yeah. Well.
- 22:05That's I'm agreeing with you, Matt.
- 22:06I am 100% agreeing. With you.
- 22:09Like this team would rebound better, they'd have a a bigger
- 22:13guy like in the paint a. Guy that can catch the ball to.
- 22:18Finish. Yeah, it's like when we.
- 22:20Played it's. Increased so astronomically
- 22:22better, but we we squandered a guy that everybody and their mom
- 22:26knew the writing on the wall. He was not going to be eligible.
- 22:30It was a brave. Error.
- 22:32A brave error for for this staff and trying to put the Tyreek
- 22:38Smith situation in our favor and it really cost this team.
- 22:44So I I mean the the the roster construction without a big
- 22:48another big guy really makes this this team look like yeah
- 22:53you know you have to score 90 points a game to win and you get
- 22:58into Big 12 play not happening for a good portion of the games.
- 23:04I I just, I don't know, I. Yeah.
- 23:06I mean, let's get into that. I mean, obviously the Tyreke
- 23:09Smith debacle, you go with the European guys and you, you, you
- 23:15basically paint it as if those are going to be guys that are
- 23:20going to be pivotal in winning games and neither one of them
- 23:24play. I mean kostich, like Kostich is
- 23:29an anomaly to me. Like I have no idea how we.
- 23:33Didn't have a player dismissed before the new year began, so
- 23:36that's that's fantastic. I I but like kostich I I mean
- 23:41the people are talking about this kid like outside of K state
- 23:47like it was on. NBA draft boards second rounder.
- 23:50Like if you know if his bat, if his thing that he's really
- 23:54struggling with his defense, well, everyone else is too.
- 23:58Like he's so bad, everybody is struggling on it.
- 24:00CJ Jones is getting minutes and trust me, I'm one of the biggest
- 24:04CJ Jones truthers. I love CJ Jones sometimes, but
- 24:08it's got to be the only one. Yeah, it's, it's got to be in
- 24:12the the smallest increments possible and we're just running
- 24:16this guy out there and he can't shoot.
- 24:19He has terrible, he's got terrible handle.
- 24:21He has no decision making and he's a point guard.
- 24:25Like, I mean, it's just, it's just bad.
- 24:28I mean, the bigs we're having McGriff, who is a stretch four
- 24:34and we've got him running 5 and it's just, it's just bad.
- 24:38It's just bad. Bad.
- 24:41Yeah, so and I have no, I, I told Bob at the beginning of the
- 24:45season I will hold off opinions and, you know, expectations
- 24:50until the time comes and the time has come.
- 24:52I have no expectations. This team is bad.
- 24:55It is just a bad team. And I, and I, and you heard from
- 24:59my take previous to what I'm saying now about this Arizona
- 25:03game. I am basically imploring that
- 25:07the referees do some scandalous shit to even keep us in a game.
- 25:12That's that's where I'm at. I'm having them have to
- 25:15basically get blown up. Who's the coach for Arizona?
- 25:19That the Yeah. I'm begging them that they're
- 25:25going to have to tee Tommy Lloyd up from how the foul discrepancy
- 25:28is going to be in Arizona. That's basically what I'm having
- 25:32to implore the referees to do to keep us just in a game.
- 25:37It's it's where have we gone? Where where have we gone?
- 25:42I'm done with the team basically.
- 25:44And I'm going to enjoy watching in versus Arizona.
- 25:46Maybe if, if it's your outcome, I won't.
- 25:49But I mean, my outcome, which I think was going to happen, I'll
- 25:52enjoy it. But outside of that, it's we're
- 25:55not. I don't plan on any wins.
- 25:57That's the problem. I'm not planning on any wins.
- 26:00We lost the Bowling Green. I do love, I love how the
- 26:05coaching staff kind of wish casted that Tyreke Smith would
- 26:08get a waiver approved and it didn't happen and they didn't.
- 26:12Their adjustment on the fly was Doreen Bucca who plays great
- 26:16against G5G6 opponents. He's.
- 26:20Got a four inch Manger who slaps the ball out of the air.
- 26:23That's all he's. That's all he's good for.
- 26:27Hey, I'm a Buca believer as long as we're playing a low major
- 26:30program. I'm a Doreen denier if we're Oh
- 26:33my. God, he's going to.
- 26:34He's going to have a double, double against KU.
- 26:36Some stupid crap. KU, who is currently only up
- 26:41five against TCU when I looked. So that's that's great for them.
- 26:45All right, before we get into the final segment here, the
- 26:49podcast, a quick shout out to our sponsor.
- 26:53Heartland Beef Connection are our newest sponsor here on
- 26:56Cocaine Willie. Folks, we're not talking about
- 26:58grocery store beef. Heartland Beef Connection
- 27:01connects Kansas and Midwest families directly with local
- 27:05ranchers. No middle men, no industrial,
- 27:09you know what, mumbo jumbo processing, no mass produced
- 27:13beef. A lot of these ranchers are
- 27:14located in Kansas, and of course, plenty of them are case
- 27:18daters themselves. So they got the same values, the
- 27:20same work ethic. They're living in physicality
- 27:22the same way Coach Klein is. So these guys are out there
- 27:26doing it on the land as opposed to the football field.
- 27:29And that matters a lot to me. I'm I've been to Kansas.
- 27:33I was born, I was born in Kansas of 6 generations of my family
- 27:36live there. So it's very important to me
- 27:38personally as it is probably also important to Matt.
- 27:41Well, probably not Matt maybe maybe to chef, though, but Paul,
- 27:44friend of the program. He started Heartland Beef
- 27:47Connection to help support Midwest ranchers by matching
- 27:50them directly with families looking to buy quarter, half or
- 27:53whole beef shares. And know where your beef comes
- 27:55from, how it was raised, and who raised it.
- 27:59Here's the part people don't expect.
- 28:01Not only does this beef taste better, it's actually cheaper
- 28:03per pound than grocery store beef when you buy direct.
- 28:07So it's better quality, There's more transparency, and you're
- 28:09not paying for the middle man. If you care about supporting
- 28:13Kansas agriculture, keeping your money local, and eating beef
- 28:16that tastes the way beef should, Heartland Beef Connection is the
- 28:21way to do it. So here's the best part you,
- 28:22because you're listening to Cocaine Willie, you get 50.
- 28:27No, not $5025 off the Heartland Beef Connection match fee when
- 28:32you mention the pod or use code CW25 S Check out Heartland Beef
- 28:36connection at heartlandbeef.net. Real beef, real ranchers, better
- 28:41beef for your money, bowl season standings and overall lock
- 28:45standing. So this is the last thing we're
- 28:47going to get to today. So coming into bowl season, Matt
- 28:51had a pretty commanding lead going into going into the bowl
- 28:55season with locks. He was leading 44 to 3044 and 30
- 29:00overall. I was in second place, 37 and 30
- 29:04overall and Chef was in last with 30 and a 44 record overall
- 29:10after the Bulls jobs tied with Matt, currently the top the
- 29:15leaderboard. I'm 61 and 52 and one overall.
- 29:19Matt is 6152 and one overall as well with a bowl record of 17
- 29:24and 22 and 1. And I have a bowl record of 2415
- 29:29and one. Matt, what do you have to say
- 29:30about your fall from grace? Fall from grace.
- 29:38You know, sometimes you got to let the poor kids win and I let
- 29:42Bob No, I'm kidding. But seriously, you know, I just
- 29:48felt bad for you because you're doing so poorly and Chef wasn't
- 29:54going to participate, so I just. So for those for those who don't
- 30:03know. For those who don't know, we
- 30:04went through our bold pick em exercises here.
- 30:07Chef decided to pick one bowl game and none, none of the rest.
- 30:11So there's a bunch of red on a spreadsheet that has our bold
- 30:15pick em on. Christmas season kicked my ass,
- 30:18what did you do? Chef Chef is currently Owen.
- 30:214040 so she went from 30. I just knew.
- 30:26Overall to 30 and 84. I just knew that with Chef
- 30:30losing every game, I just had to let poor old Bob Trolls be catch
- 30:35up to me to make it to this point where it's.
- 30:40For all the marbles. This is for.
- 30:42All the marbles, so we've got three games left to pick.
- 30:46We're going to pick two of them tonight and then we'll pick the
- 30:48last one next week. The first matchup we've got
- 30:53Indiana -3 1/2 in their matchup against Oregon.
- 30:58Then we got Ole Miss plus 3 1/2 in their match up against Miami.
- 31:04I'm taking Ole Miss plus 3. Miami's favored by 3 1/2.
- 31:09They can Ole Miss and I'm taking Indiana.
- 31:11Man, should I just pick the same thing and guarantee a tie?
- 31:15No, I'm not. I'm picking Indiana.
- 31:19I'm picking Miami. OK, I'm really 3 1/2.
- 31:23I'm following Matt. I'm following Matt as well.
- 31:26Fudge, I'm screwed. I'm picking Oregon and I'm
- 31:31picking No, I'm picking Indiana. I'm picking Miami.
- 31:36What a national championship game that would be.
- 31:41Michael Irvin. Michael Irvin, doubly coked out,
- 31:47and Kurt Signetti, who has no, like, just feelings at all.
- 31:56Google me baby, Google me. Google me.
- 32:01Yeah, so. What have your what have your
- 32:03thoughts been on the CFP so far this year?
- 32:08I think it's very that's the stat that, you know, the home
- 32:11teams with the BI. I mean the the teams with the BI
- 32:15just losing outside of Indiana and they throttled with an
- 32:20Alabama team that just couldn't run the ball, which is which is
- 32:23really funny. I mean, Alabama just lost all
- 32:25their physicality. But those teams that have the
- 32:29buy for the past two seasons just don't win.
- 32:32And it's very I I don't understand where what it is.
- 32:36Is it not being off for basically a month?
- 32:39I don't, I don't know. I feel like it is because, I
- 32:43mean, I, I, I think when they move this to 16, the thing that
- 32:47I'm most excited about is the top 8 seeds being able to get
- 32:51one last game at home. I, you know, the Bulls, I think
- 32:59about like the Orange Bowl, great example.
- 33:01Like it just seems like these games kind of the life is sucked
- 33:06out of the Bulls now. And you know, you're not
- 33:10rewarding these teams in the top four with the opportunity to be
- 33:16able to play in front of your home fans.
- 33:19I'm not now like if Tech plays Oregon at home, you know, are
- 33:24they more competitive? Probably, I don't know.
- 33:28But I mean, it just really goes to show that the playoff there,
- 33:36there are flaws with the playoff the past two seasons.
- 33:40I think the biggest one is the fact that your team like the top
- 33:454 is off of routine. I mean, I just think that these
- 33:49teams are coming in with a week of they played a game the week
- 33:54before, they were prepping for a game the week before.
- 33:57Their mental focus was on a game the week before.
- 33:59And you can continue that. And I think that just goes to
- 34:04show how good Indiana is. I mean, I, I just think Indiana
- 34:09is, is, is a really, really good team.
- 34:12And out of the four teams, you know, I don't know if there's an
- 34:15Ole Miss or Miami situation that would that would stop what I
- 34:20think Indiana's been doing. But, you know, Texas Tech
- 34:24obviously was a huge disappointment.
- 34:26You know, the backlash about Texas Tech's performance is
- 34:30really kind of skewing, I think, the media and saying the Big 12
- 34:33is a shitty conference without necessarily looking at the other
- 34:37factor, You know, the other teams in the Big 12 and how the
- 34:40bowl season went for the Big 12, I mean, was pretty, pretty good.
- 34:44It's because Barry Morton sucks. He had three giveaways and that
- 34:48that was the difference in the game.
- 34:50Like they put a. $40 million roster, around a crappy
- 34:54quarterback and a lot of. People could have saw this
- 34:56coming for sure, but you know, it's the two games I think will
- 35:02be exciting. I think it'll be good to see
- 35:04what Dan Lanning puts together against Indiana in round two of
- 35:08that match up. And for, you know, Ole Miss I
- 35:12against Georgia, they just that was a really, really good game.
- 35:15And I think it showed how good of a quarterback Trinidad
- 35:19Chambliss is and getting his team into the end zone, doing
- 35:24the things, you know, that he needed to do as a guy who at the
- 35:27beginning of the year was definitely not going to be the
- 35:29starter for that team. So yeah, it's been entertaining
- 35:35from a playoff perspective, but I I want this to go to 16 and I
- 35:39want to see some more games at the top eight.
- 35:43I think it'd it'd be way more fun.
- 35:46I'm tired. Of the playoffs, to be honest
- 35:47with you, I wish it was back to the old way.
- 35:49I would bring back the BCS for all I care.
- 35:52You know, I think a lot of these teams don't deserve title
- 35:56opportunity. I think Ole Miss is one of
- 35:57those. I mean, it for me, OK, I tried
- 36:01to like write off the excuse for why Ohio State lost, OK, their
- 36:06offensive coordinator is, you know, taking a job.
- 36:10Same thing with what Texas A&M had to.
- 36:12But then you see a team like Ole Miss, who I mean, obviously it's
- 36:15his team now and he's the head coach and and we don't have to
- 36:19worry about that, but they've still got coordinators on that
- 36:21team that are going to other places that are just biting
- 36:25their time. So it's I, I want to write off
- 36:28that like you've got to have cohesion similar to what Indiana
- 36:34is going through, where Indiana doesn't have a lot of coaching
- 36:38turnover and they're the more team oriented kind of team and
- 36:42they're, they're seeing success for that reason.
- 36:44But I just don't, I just don't know what to put my finger on
- 36:48because I could have swore Ohio State was the most talented
- 36:51team, the most dynamic team, the better defense and all that
- 36:55stuff, but they just get throttled.
- 36:57And it's, I don't know, man. I it's something with the buys.
- 37:02But like Matt says, if you get these teams where they're
- 37:06getting more home games, they expand the field.
- 37:09Maybe it makes it more balanced and you see the better teams
- 37:12actually win instead of I don't know what we're getting anymore.
- 37:15We'll, we'll see. But I'm, I'm not a playoff guy
- 37:19anymore. I, I don't, I don't want to talk
- 37:21about it. I hate the playoff until K
- 37:24State's involved. I don't I don't like any of
- 37:27them. Fair enough, fair enough.
- 37:31Just any other thoughts? Any other thoughts before we get
- 37:34out of here? Man, I don't know.
- 37:41I'm, I'm kind of sad now. Sad.
- 37:46Basketball. Stinks.
- 37:48Sad boy, sad boy. Man, I, I, I thought Matt was a
- 37:52fool for thinking like he was all in favor of like case like
- 37:56college basketball is his jam, but like, not watching any
- 38:00college basketball because K State basketball stinks is
- 38:03really bad. Like I, it's doing a disservice
- 38:06to my fandom that I don't get to enjoy college basketball because
- 38:12my team stinks so bad. And I want, I want things to
- 38:16change. I want to care about college
- 38:18basketball, boy. We just have to be good at
- 38:23sports. You know, it's just a been a,
- 38:26it's been very poor season for us in a lot of sports.
- 38:31So maybe someday it'll get better.
- 38:34Maybe, maybe, maybe not. I don't, I don't know, I don't
- 38:40know. Hey, roster construction on the
- 38:42men's football, on the, on the men's football team, on the
- 38:45football team. The football team is looking
- 38:48like it's going pretty well so far.
- 38:49So knock on wood. Hopefully that'll keep us, keep
- 38:52us happy and keep us alive. But that's going to do it for us
