- 6:35Jennifer Davis: Okay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.
- 6:46Jennifer Davis: so our question is: Redmond's Derby Days bicycle race started as a fundraiser in 1939 to buy what for the town?
- 6:56Jennifer Davis: Was it A, a new water tower; B, Christmas decorations and school athletic gear; C, a town clock; or D, a public library?
- 7:07Jennifer Davis: And your time starts now
- 7:10Dan Schulz: All very good uses of money.
- 7:14Dan Schulz: A town clock.
- 7:16Jennifer Davis: Mm.
- 7:17Dan Schulz: Do you think this is a Back to the Future sitch?
- 7:21Dan Schulz: I'm going with Back to the Future, a town clock.
- 7:25Dan Schulz: That is my final answer
- 7:31Jennifer Davis: All right, well, you're gonna be disappointed because the answer is actually B, Christmas decorations and school athletic gear.
- 7:40Jennifer Davis: The Derby Days Bicycle Race began as a Depression-era fundraiser to help pay for Christmas decorations and school athletic gear.
- 7:48Jennifer Davis: What started as a practical way for the community to raise a little bit of money eventually grew into one of Redmond's longest-running traditions.
- 7:57Jennifer Davis: It's a great reminder that some of Redmond's biggest annual events started with neighbors simply pitching in to make the community a little better.
- 8:05Dan Schulz: And yet there's still no town clock.
- 8:08Dan Schulz: Everyone in this town is confused at what time it is Let's do rumor mill.
- 8:22Dan Schulz: Here's one we've been hearing from a couple different directions.
- 8:25Dan Schulz: Sources say a boutique running club could be looking at space on Cleveland Street, and from what we've heard, it won't be just like a running shoe store or a gym.
- 8:35Dan Schulz: You can think locker rooms, a wall of running gear, post-run coffee, and organized group runs that make it feel more like a club than a retail shop.
- 8:44Dan Schulz: Now, we haven't been able to confirm any of this yet.
- 8:47Dan Schulz: We don't know if there's a lease that has been signed or if it's just talks that are in the early stages.
- 8:52Dan Schulz: But if it does happen, would you join a place like this or stick with your current running group?
- 8:58Dan Schulz: If you've got a guess or heard something, head on over to our Facebook page at facebook.com/bestofredmond and drop it in the Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses post.
- 9:08Dan Schulz: And while you are at our Facebook page, find the post called Your Picks and tell us who you think the best barber in Redmond is
