- 0:34Australia and New Zealand this week and will soon be available
- 0:39in other countries. So how does metas new
- 0:41Subscription Service? Compared to Elon musk's Twitter
- 0:45blue, meta formerly known, as Facebook is testing a new paid
- 0:49verification service for Instagram and Facebook users who
- 0:52subscribe to The Meta. Verified service will receive a
- 0:55blue verified badge. Increased visibility on the

- 1:01support and much more. And the service is rolling out
- 1:04in Australia and New Zealand this week with plans to expand
- 1:08to other countries in the near future.
- 1:10The cost of the service is $11.99 per month on the web and
- 1:14fourteen dollars per month on mobile.
- 1:17Now, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of meta announced the new service
- 1:21in an Instagram update stating that it was designed to increase
- 1:24authenticity and security on the company's platforms to become
- 1:28meta verified users. Must meet certain activity
- 1:31requirements. Be at least 18 years old and
- 1:34submit a government ID that matches the name and photo on
- 1:39their Facebook or Instagram account.
- 1:41Now the new offering is similar to Elon musk's Twitter blue
- 1:44which costs $8 per month but meta notes that it will not make
- 1:48any changes to accounts that have already been verified.
- 1:51Using the company's previous requirements such as notability

- 2:22without going through the verification process again in
- 2:25the company, is also stated that it wants to build a subscription
- 2:29offering that is Valuable to everyone, including creators
- 2:32businesses and The Wider Community.
- 2:35Now, when the service launches in Australia, New Zealand, it
- 2:38will cause 1999 odd on the web and 2499 dot on mobile and 2399
- 2:45nzd on the web and 2999 and ZD on mobile.
- 2:50Now, the higher cost on IOS and Android is likely a way to
- 2:55offset the commission that Apple and Google take on in-app.
- 3:00Rumors about the service, first surfaced earlier this month,
- 3:03when TechCrunch reported references to paid verification
- 3:07in Instagram source code, social media consultant, Matt davara.
- 3:11Later posted what appears to be a support page for paid
- 3:14verification on either the Australian or New Zealand based
- 3:18version of Instagram. Now the new meta verified
- 3:20service has drawn many comparisons to Twitter blue,
- 3:24which was relaunched by Elon Musk a few months ago, however
- 3:28metas verification process. It appears to be more stringent
- 3:31than Twitter's requiring users to submit government IDs and
- 3:35offering additional safeguards against fake accounts.
- 3:38Nonetheless, there are concerns that the new service could lead
- 3:41to a flood of fake verified accounts as was seen on Twitter
- 3:45last year. Twitter has recently made
- 3:48headlines with its updated verification service, which is
- 3:51now open to the public users can now apply to have their accounts
- 3:55verified with a blue checkmark indicating that the account is
- 3:58authentic. Now this move by Twitter comes
- 4:00after several controversies surrounding the verification
- 4:03process, including accusations of bias and inconsistent
- 4:07enforcement. Now, while Twitter is making
- 4:09strides in, improving is platform.
