- 0:33Hamster with a blump. Pen knife for doing.
- 0:35Quicker, quicker, quicker 2/1. Welcome back to our Hamster with
- 0:43a Blump Pen Knife Doctor Who Commentary podcast.
- 0:49You recording, John? I am recording take two.
- 0:52Could you at the four were you? Well, no.
- 0:55We'll see you at the end of the call.
- 0:57If we've got something. If this episode comes out, then
- 0:59I'll press record. OK.
- 1:01So I do apologize for my technical ineptitude on your
- 1:04first hand style. I don't know first, but not just
- 1:07First Time's the first ever podcast.
- 1:08Is it really? It is.
- 1:10And you know, I thought I'd make things really easy for myself by
- 1:13doing a three hour Jon Purvey story rather than a 45 minute
- 1:17You're mad. Yes.
- 1:19Well, as I did say on the take one.
- 1:23I am here tonight with potentially the most handsome
- 1:27hamster contributor I have met. That's very kind of you to say
- 1:30thank. You.
- 1:30You're so well, don't believe it, but that's very nice of you.
- 1:33Well, you know, we've all got to type, you know.
- 1:37Sorry, let's move on quick. I'm here today with Mr. Craig
- 1:43Williams, correct? And I am deeply interested in
- 1:47once again hearing your Doctor Who's story.
- 1:50What was your first story? Well, you can.
- 1:53You can tell me because you heard it 5 minutes.
- 1:55Ago it was. It was my very I am.
- 1:59I'm probably one of the most unluckiest fan fans in fandom
- 2:02because I started my Doctor Who journeys with season 26, as did
- 2:04you. But yeah, I was born in 82, so I
- 2:06would have been 7 and 89. I remember watching my dad.
- 2:09My very first memory is a finding.
- 2:13What's it called? The Reverend.
- 2:15It is Vancouver, isn't it? No, that's Van Cooper's the.
- 2:19Michael conference Ernest. Yeah.
- 2:20It's finding Reverend Matthews in the in the glass box
- 2:23transformed and then when it hit, that's my very first
- 2:25memory, the. Fella that goes, you know,
- 2:27better than animals. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 2:30yeah. It's people don't get ghosts.
- 2:32That's so funny. There's so many jokes.
- 2:35There's so many jokes in it. People think it's kind of like,
- 2:37you know, impenetrable, like techno crap.
- 2:41But it's it's it's I think, I think it goes that's really easy
- 2:43to follow if you just think of light as like some sort of like
- 2:46you know guy who's cataloging you know life in the universe
- 2:50and it's kind of and he's gone to sleep and he's kind of
- 2:53everything's changed while he's being asleep.
- 2:55It's. It's.
- 2:55Once you know that it's kind of it's fine anyway.
- 2:58I mean, what's the funniest lighting goes on then?
- 3:00I think it's the cream. The cream of Scotland Yard,
- 3:02Yeah, yeah. Oh, no, no.
- 3:05Right. What about this?
- 3:07I wanted to see how it worked, so I dismantled him that line as
- 3:11well. We we, I always gloss over
- 3:13Sylvester's. You know what the bit where he's
- 3:15he's really angry and tries to banish light.
- 3:18Even Sophie Aldridge looking at him, thinking What the hell are
- 3:20you doing, mate? Why don't you.
- 3:21If I get the survey light and yeah yeah that's that's only um
- 3:27that's only second evil evil. That's a lot of time in in
- 3:30Fenrich which is my next story and I remember Gene and Phyllis
- 3:33coming out of the sea and I remember Nicholas Parsons
- 3:35getting killed and and yeah and then I remember survive.
- 3:39I remember he's getting chased by the the cheats of people in
- 3:42the playground, but and that was it, sadly.
- 3:44You were seven years old watching all that ghoulish
- 3:46stuff. Yeah, well, better than
- 3:49Coronation Street. That's very true.
- 3:52Yeah. I came in as and I say that as a
- 3:54big Corrie fan, but the late, the late 80s was not kind to
- 3:57Corrie. Did you like, were you hooked?
- 4:00As in, did you read the new adventures or did you wait for
- 4:03big finishes or. Well, so obviously the series
- 4:07ended and I, because I was only seven, I wasn't kind of like,
- 4:09you know, when when's it coming back?
- 4:10You know, I just go, oh, that was a nice problem.
- 4:12And then in 93, I watched The Planet of the Dialects repeat
- 4:17and that is what basically made me a fan.
- 4:19That and Dimensions in Time. Yeah, because that was that was
- 4:25shown, I think halfway through the repeat.
- 4:27I think. I think, I think Doctor Who
- 4:29wasn't that. They showed this.
- 4:30They showed the six parts at like half seven on a Friday
- 4:33night. Imagine that now.
- 4:35The black and the black and white version of episode three
- 4:37was shown on a Friday night at 7:30.
- 4:39I spent the last time any black and white archived TV has been
- 4:42shown on BBC1. But I remember like one week
- 4:46they they they they left a gap because it was children in need
- 4:48and then and they showed dimensions up.
- 4:50So it's nice that we're doing this.
- 4:51We're doing the mind of a because pert, we technically
- 4:54like my first doctor. Really.
- 4:56If if you don't count like my hazy memories of season 26.
- 4:59Well, did you then? Did you go out and buy all the
- 5:01videos? Yeah, I've I've bought Doctor
- 5:04Magazine and I've missed an addition since I've got in my
- 5:07life. It's kind of like all Doctor
- 5:09Magazine since about late night 93.
- 5:11And what else? Yeah, started buying the videos
- 5:13and the first video I bought was the two doctors and then I and
- 5:18then I made my mom and dad get get Sky so I could watch UK
- 5:21Gold. But that didn't happen very well
- 5:24Sunday. Morning One.
- 5:25So yeah, it was Glen Allen. Yeah, I know.
- 5:27UK gold The Vortex. I know.
- 5:29Do you know what I'll be? So that was the point where I
- 5:31was sort of, you know, going out and getting pissed down, Bryan.
- 5:34So I'll go out, get pissed. I have a great shag.
- 5:37Come home in the early hours of the morning and I'll be a right
- 5:40I'll wreck. But I'd still set the alarm,
- 5:43Yeah. But it's still watch Underworld,
- 5:44yeah? Bloody VHS in or whatever it was
- 5:47to record those UK going pause the the pointer in the
- 5:51cliffhanger so on press play again after the adverts finish.
- 5:53It will be one one thing. Oh bro.
- 5:56You are a Pro 11. Well they used to kind of show
- 5:59some actually show them out of sequence which kind of like
- 6:02irritating slightly excite me program guide by then so so why
- 6:05why are they showing the invisible enemy in horrifying
- 6:07rock in the in the wrong order you know they should do so
- 6:10things like that and remember 1. I think that's the point when
- 6:13you know you're in too deep. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it should.
- 6:16So, yeah. And then and then I I never read
- 6:18the new adventures on The Missing Adventures, but I would
- 6:20obviously read about them in Dr. E magazine.
- 6:22So I kind of knew that they were what were going on.
- 6:24And then I then I got into Big Finish, but then lapsed a bit
- 6:27when the new series started. I think a lot of.
- 6:29A lot of people did. Yeah.
- 6:31Yeah, we do. And what are the new series?
- 6:33Oh, love it. Absolutely love it.
- 6:35What? Every period.
- 6:36This could be the test of our friendship.
- 6:38Now, what's your favorite period of the new series?
- 6:41Be honest. Late, late Russell Early muffin.
- 6:44That's fair. I've been out a lot of people.
- 6:46That's a that's a although, although I don't think I'm when
- 6:49season five was on, I really enjoyed it.
- 6:51But looking back at it, I just kind of go.
- 6:54Oh really? Yeah, yeah.
- 6:56I don't think Amy's a very nice person.
- 6:58Ohh she's horrible. And I would, I wish she was a
- 7:01bit more likable. But see Series 4 is just like I
- 7:05was so excited. I mean people said ohh, yeah
- 7:08when Russell comes back, it won't be the same as he used to
- 7:10be. But I really wanted to be.
- 7:12I'm a I'm a teacher. So it was lovely to see kind of
- 7:16like kids in the playground like walking around going, you know
- 7:18being cyber man and seeing all the pat lunch boxes on the on on
- 7:22the, in the, in the hall, you know, because it was I, I I
- 7:25smell that program, you know, and they're watching Sarah Jane
- 7:28and things and it was just lovely to see.
- 7:29And I don't, I don't get that now as as a teacher now I don't.
- 7:32Hardly any child knows that I'm not a big shame.
- 7:36I hope so. I really do hope so.
- 7:39So I hope was telling me he went past his old school when he had
- 7:41to park up and there was kids in the playground doing the zips of
- 7:45the editors. Yeah, yeah it was it was it was
- 7:48lovely. You see like as a as a long term
- 7:50fan as I was then to see kind of kids doing it when kids just
- 7:52didn't know anything about it beforehand.
- 7:54I remember that Blue Peter and in in the kind of wilderness
- 7:58here is where they were all dressed up as Doctor Who's and
- 8:00they were trying to explain what Doctor Who was and you can tell
- 8:02Richard Marson kind of like something he did you know but
- 8:05and it was sad to go they got like explain Doctor Who now it's
- 8:08a shame but it's just so love that you see all the kids
- 8:10enjoying it again in 2000, 2006 seemed to be like the you know
- 8:14when all the toys came out and all the merchandise.
- 8:17We're skipping all the way back to 1972 today, 71 Joe, 71 Joe.
- 8:23I was. He obviously didn't have the
- 8:24program guy, did I? You've done a bit more
- 8:27unearthing of facts than I have. What is your relationship with
- 8:33John Perway? I mean, personal.
- 8:35I know he's dead, but like, what do you think of his dogs?
- 8:38What do you think of his era? And what do you think of Series
- 8:418? That's three big questions.
- 8:43It is. Well, Series 8 is basically kind
- 8:48of like what we see as the John Pertley years, isn't it?
- 8:50It's season seven's kind of completely different beast.
- 8:54And there are kind of, and I've seen it today on Twitter that,
- 8:57you know, people still kind of think this is more of the the
- 9:00Season 7 Pertley rather than the the more kind of pop and
- 9:03colorful stuff which came later. I I love him.
- 9:07I absolutely love him. He's because he's what you want
- 9:10your doctor to be. He's completely dependent.
- 9:12I wish Capaldi was like, was like Pertley, you know you you'd
- 9:16hide behind him, you'd kind of can trust him completely.
- 9:19Even though he can be a bit of a a bit of a twat who's
- 9:21companions, especially Joe, which as we'll see today, yeah,
- 9:24there's there's, there's a bit. Of a dossy period in it there's
- 9:26there's a bit in episode 2 where where he speaks to Joe and I was
- 9:29thinking you twat you know lesser and and she she's got
- 9:34she's got unconditional love for him and she kind of put it is I
- 9:37mean people talk about the you know the 6th doctor and Perry
- 9:38being an abusive relationship and we need to look at the the
- 9:413rd but no, I I love her. I think he's amazing and
- 9:45everything he does and even even the thing even the things that
- 9:48kind of like the quirks you know that that they're endearing as
- 9:52well. You know, they're the, you know,
- 9:53the chin's stroking and the and the lying down, one leg up, one
- 9:57leg down. You know what I mean?
- 9:59I love it. Ohh, you could you could do a
- 10:01drink. You could do a drinking game
- 10:03with with with some of her stories.
- 10:04We'd be under the table, yeah. She goes like you said.
- 10:09He's so steadfast. You feel so, Yeah, you do.
- 10:11You do. You'd want him to kind of like
- 10:13take around the universe. That's why I like you.
- 10:15Remember like the end of Inferno.
- 10:17That entire universe just dies. I really like we couldn't save
- 10:22the day. We're in trouble now.
- 10:24I know. I love Inferno as well.
- 10:27I love Season 7, even though it's kind of like it can be a
- 10:30bit like not for kids at times. I mean ambassadors when the
- 10:33those two men are dumped at a in a quarry and he's kind of like
- 10:36Reagan who I who I adore by bloody love Reagan and he's kind
- 10:40of kicking the the ballast down over the the two the two spies
- 10:44and like ooh. He needs to stop this, right?
- 10:47Because I had Fraser on to do ambassador to death and hearing
- 10:50a similar accent talking about the same things because he love
- 10:52Reagan on that sequence as well. Yeah.
- 10:54Yeah. Well, no, I don't.
- 10:56I don't. Well, it's a bit like I don't
- 10:58talk to who is. Yeah.
- 10:59But now I just think maybe not. But there, there, there is a bit
- 11:04of gritty. It's always the word gritty,
- 11:07isn't it? The season.
- 11:08And they're not talking about the stuff that goes on those two
- 11:10blocks, are they? It's like there's the kind of,
- 11:13you know, the actual, like, metaphor for season seven being
- 11:16gritty 2, two crooks getting buried in grit.
- 11:19But yeah, it's always that word, gritty realism, and there's a
- 11:22bit of gritty, really realism in this, you know, especially the
- 11:26prison setting William Marlow is doing.
- 11:28It is William Marlow thinks he's in a completely different show
- 11:32because he's he's he's doing, he's doing Sweeney acting a.
- 11:36Bit of Reagan, you know, that sort of smooth.
- 11:39It's dangerous, but it's very cool.
- 11:41Reagan is the boss. Yeah, I I love how he has a
- 11:44different. I love how he's a different kind
- 11:46of costume. Very he's he's a Baker's
- 11:47costume. He's got his, he's got his space
- 11:49control thing, he's got his suit.
- 11:51But yeah, no, I like. I like Reagan.
- 11:54I think this actually. Sorry Joel, as you.
- 11:58As you can see, I've got my IMC mug.
- 12:01I did have a but that's gone the same way as the color episodes.
- 12:05I've also got the UM, the Regan's van, You know the two
- 12:08signs with these. What's it?
- 12:09The bakery in the in the laundry and silcock and dilcock and
- 12:14Hayhoe. That's it.
- 12:15Yeah, yeah, yeah. A lot of people talk about, you
- 12:19know, season seven being realistic.
- 12:20And he's got a magic van. When your parents let you watch
- 12:27those two episodes of season 26, they had no idea how deep this
- 12:31was going to go, did they? Don't you ever apologize for
- 12:37interrupting me? All right.
- 12:38You got far more interesting things to say than I'll do.
- 12:40I was just skipping to episode one.
- 12:44Why not? And see what this gritty story
- 12:49has to offer. Do you know what?
- 12:50What I was for season 7 clinical, it's quite clinical.
- 12:53It's, it's. It's got a seriousness to it.
- 12:56There isn't a huge amount of humor, but it is really
- 12:59gripping. Yeah there was that you know
- 13:02that doctor in The Third Man that was on the season 10 Blue
- 13:05race that the documentary with it's Moffett and Gayness and
- 13:08Matthew Sweet having a conversation, which I bloody
- 13:10love. They do make the argument thing
- 13:11that season 8 is the first color season in terms of kind of you
- 13:15talk to you goes pop rather than the last season which is quite
- 13:18dour and could be could be in black and white.
- 13:20Season 8 is the first color series color rather than the
- 13:24last one because everything, everything just seems to have
- 13:26kind of like gone a bit more like just a bit less real, you
- 13:31know even Pert was costume was kind of like being dumbed down a
- 13:34bit. When you start tearing the auto,
- 13:37I think it was Rob Sheerman in corridors and said it's like
- 13:41eating a whole packet of skills. Yeah, it is.
- 13:44He's now on the bright red he's got in this one.
- 13:47He was the red one with the purple Cape and it's a lot more
- 13:51like, you know, jazz hands than than Season 7.
- 13:54And you get close of axles, and then we've skipped out of
- 13:57reality altogether. Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 14:00Purple knickers on Jewel. Well, I don't notice that sort
- 14:04of thing, you know, I'm glad you're here.
- 14:08In fact, you know what? For a 70 story, I was counting
- 14:11the women in this, I'm like, there's Pixen.
- 14:13Pixen Lynn as Yeah, yeah, what's the name?
- 14:16Chin Lee Yeah, Yeah. Couple bell.
- 14:18Fabulous Fernanda Marlow as. Yeah, and obviously Joe as well.
- 14:24And I know it's only three, but that's more than, you know, most
- 14:27seasons can manage. I I know, I do love the hell
- 14:30kind of. He's called William Marlow.
- 14:32She's called Fernanda Marlow. Or they must be married, like
- 14:35fans about that. Kind of like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 14:37they must be married. You know there can't be any two
- 14:39people who have the same name and you're not married.
- 14:41She corrects them on the commentary.
- 14:42She goes around like never married to.
- 14:44The Wikipedia page says I'm married to women and I'm not.
- 14:48But you know what? We will start this in a minute.
- 14:51We're just having so much in it. She does say as well though that
- 14:55she became friends with Pics and Limp and she when they they've
- 15:00been lifelong friends ever since.
- 15:03Stories like that. It's a bit like Barbara and
- 15:05Jenny in Darla Convention of Earth.
- 15:08They were busy mates for life. Amazing.
- 15:11Well, now it's our turn after doing this commentary, you know.
- 15:15This is where we meet. Until death do us part.
- 15:18Oh, sorry, I'm preempting my death.
- 15:20Let's go into episode one. Can you count us in then please?
- 15:24Yes, 321. That was quick.
- 15:27I wasn't ready. No, I'm ready.
- 15:28I'm ready. Don't worry.
- 15:29I'm in. I'm in.
- 15:31Jesus Christ. That is the most premature.
- 15:34No, I'm not even going there. You talk.
- 15:35Go on, Aren't these credits lovely, Joe?
- 15:40Oh, they're gorgeous. Talk about color.
- 15:45Well, they were made in black and white, weren't they?
- 15:47They were actually. And then they put a filter on
- 15:49them. I didn't know that.
- 15:51Yeah, yeah, you can see the original film on the spearhead.
- 15:53Blurry. Well, there you go.
- 15:54So you're already educated, yeah?
- 15:57And then they use the same filters on when they've
- 15:59colorized the trout and title sequences for the animations.
- 16:02What do Inferno and the Mind of Evil have in common?
- 16:06Well, I'll be interested in your ticket.
- 16:08How do you pronounce the writer's name, Joe?
- 16:11I think is it Horton? Well, you see I I would say, I
- 16:16would say I would say Halton because I'll live near a a, a
- 16:19town called Horton this spring. So when I see that word I just
- 16:22think Horton. But I hear people on comment The
- 16:24thing is on the commentary and on the making of there's no kind
- 16:26of like agreement. There's Halton.
- 16:29Some people say Halton, some people say haven't.
- 16:32It's like Mark Gattis stroke gate.
- 16:34Oh, yeah, I know, Yeah. Likes that though it really I
- 16:38just think it's it's it's gatest because I've heard Mark Gatest
- 16:40say gatest Interesting, interesting facts here.
- 16:44John Perry or the Doctor Who kind of like from a massive like
- 16:46you know ancient technological race of the time is absolutely
- 16:50fascinated and tickle pink with CCTV.
- 16:55Wow. What will they think of next?
- 16:57I didn't think this primitive civilization reach this level.
- 17:00Yeah, yeah. And the the photo on his ID
- 17:03badge there is a promo shot from Terror of the Autumns.
- 17:06Well, there you go. Yeah.
- 17:07And I'm trying, I'm trying to be, I'm trying to be like Andrew
- 17:10Pixley here, but I think I'm more like Andrew Ridgeley to
- 17:15your George Michael, of course. George, I'll be in this toilet
- 17:20over here. Oh, not in a prison.
- 17:23It was stink. Do you know when he's there
- 17:26during that? So, yeah, yeah, yeah, on.
- 17:28PCTV Sarah Sutton and Janet Fielding on the behind the sofa
- 17:31were saying he's no fun. He's got no humor to him.
- 17:35Well, that's the kind of like a myth that needs to be debunked,
- 17:37isn't it? But he was.
- 17:40He was like, really like grumpy in his face.
- 17:42But I can't. He's really grumpy in his first
- 17:43season. But he wasn't.
- 17:44He was kind of he was doing magic tricks and all sorts.
- 17:47But you know, you know all this stuff in a minute.
- 17:49Well, he's really spectacularly rude during Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 17:52yeah, yeah. Nothing.
- 17:53That's hilarious brilliant it's they go can I continue goes
- 17:58yeah, of course. Yeah.
- 18:00I imagine. I imagine that's what Pert we
- 18:01was really like in script meetings or something you know
- 18:04as well what have I got to say this week, Katie, You know, is
- 18:10this Eric Mason and yeah, all that.
- 18:13No, the Barnum is is Yeah. Who's got the most magnificent
- 18:20cheekbones ever? He was just in power.
- 18:24Probably have a week as well. You know, this different role.
- 18:27I don't think he's even 40 here. Really.
- 18:30Yeah. It's it's Michael.
- 18:32There's Michael Shade. He's 33 when this was being
- 18:34filmed it it's true what they say.
- 18:37They're not people like, looked older than what they were in the
- 18:3960s, definitely. But I like because they because
- 18:42they've got to kind of show Barnum as a kind of a as an
- 18:47imbecile and simpleton later. They've got to make him like
- 18:49really, really unpleasant and violent in this first scene,
- 18:52just to show how evil he is before he gets his.
- 18:55He gets his experiment. I love how they're holding this
- 18:57meeting in a greenhouse. Hang on.
- 19:00Or a Conservatory? You don't often see a ceiling in
- 19:03docs for. All right.
- 19:03So, no. Yeah.
- 19:04Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:05True. True.
- 19:07We usually sort of short in shooting towards the walls
- 19:10because there is no ceiling this looks.
- 19:14Do you see Pert where he put his cloak on that person?
- 19:16Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. Sorry.
- 19:19There's some amazing photos of this when they do this in
- 19:22rehearsal. And Pert was wearing the the
- 19:23purple kit, but he's wearing over this like yellow shirt and
- 19:26kind of floral cravat and I think sunglasses.
- 19:28I'm not, I'm not sure. But he looks, he looks the dude
- 19:31like. Fashion icon, I think, yeah,
- 19:33yeah, yeah. You know, back there there's a
- 19:36fellow with, Oh my God, what is called, can you help me out
- 19:39here? What is called here, here,
- 19:41Sideburns. There's a fellow there, right.
- 19:44And in the book, Who Killed Kennedy?
- 19:46Which tries to weave this characters reporter throughout
- 19:49all the pertly stories he's identified as that man.
- 19:53Really. Yeah.
- 19:54So there's two stories going on here.
- 19:56We could we could Rep con him as being Harold Chorley.
- 20:00If it wasn't for that, don't we? Yeah.
- 20:02That's a goodie. He should have appeared in,
- 20:05like, the Pert years. I think they've kind of put him
- 20:06in a big finish and set in series seven.
- 20:08I think lately I'm surprised. Yeah, I'll look that from Bert.
- 20:12We It's a policeman's helmet on a light.
- 20:16Yes, you are right, it is. It is it.
- 20:20Oh God. Yeah, it.
- 20:21Was funnier. That's the second attempt, yeah.
- 20:25Well, imagine, imagine what. What would have happened to that
- 20:27first one if you saw on it. Now you're talking my language.
- 20:33Honestly, it's not. There ain't got much gerf
- 20:35though, so I couldn't do much for that if I'm honest.
- 20:38I love how it looks like he's going to get his hair done and
- 20:40all. But I'll tell you in all
- 20:45seriousness for a second, there is a shot.
- 20:48From above, when he's just about to go through the process and
- 20:52the cameras, yeah, it's amazing, yeah.
- 20:53It really looks like someone's on death row.
- 20:56Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's writhing in pain and that
- 20:59and he and screaming. Like, can I ask you right, Yeah,
- 21:03go on. Is there with your kids?
- 21:07I wonder how old your kids are, 10 and four?
- 21:11Ten. Oh, OK, so that's two very
- 21:13different ages. Is there a limit of what sort of
- 21:15you would show them? With don't say or can I?
- 21:18Well, I think, I think dark water possibly across the line
- 21:21with all cremation stuff. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:24Oh, here he is getting his head on.
- 21:27That's that's me getting carried and get my hair cut and all.
- 21:30No, no. No.
- 21:32What are you talking about Simon Lack.
- 21:36He was in Androids Attara. When he he's.
- 21:39I'm surprised to kill him off so early.
- 21:41He's. Saying is he the he's the guy,
- 21:44he's the Princess kind of like right hand man he's got.
- 21:47Zardec is it? Yeah.
- 21:48Yeah. Zardec I yeah.
- 21:50Yeah, Blasio. Everyone's done other roles.
- 21:52This Michael Sheer, Neil McCarthy, William Marlow was in
- 21:57Revenge of the Sidemen and it's so sad because this William
- 22:01Marlow is outstanding in this Revenge of the Sidemen.
- 22:04It's complete non character and you wouldn't know he was in it.
- 22:07He's wasted completely. Yeah, that's our shot you
- 22:08mentioned. You know what, Craig?
- 22:10I knew there was something evil. I don't know.
- 22:13It's it's it's like they they've they've they've dyed his hair
- 22:16the wrong color and he's he's complaining about it Oh oh Oh no
- 22:22he's is this is this meant to have happened to the other guys
- 22:25who have had this process as well or is this like a one off?
- 22:28He's so evil. This is what's happened to him,
- 22:30yeah, because he becomes like a simpleton, doesn't he?
- 22:33Yeah, but he. But then he we just get everyone
- 22:35like phoning after him and doing jobs for him.
- 22:37So maybe it's not that bad after all.
- 22:39Might try it, you know, yeah. Casey Burley says they were
- 22:42falling about. When he's going around the set,
- 22:44it's going Dr. Summers. I'm looking for Dr. Summers.
- 22:51Can I ask you a question then about how serious this is all
- 22:54played? Like what's your preference when
- 22:56it comes to talk to you when it when it is sort of geared a
- 22:58little bit more towards adults like this?
- 23:00I don't like it. I like a touch of camp and
- 23:04frivolity is very welcome because then it's just Star Trek
- 23:07then and I hate Star Trek because it's just too poor
- 23:08faced. Where is that if you if you take
- 23:11this? Car Trade Podcast.
- 23:13You know thing is, I rarely watch anymore scifi other than
- 23:19who you know. Is that right?
- 23:22Yeah. Because because it's got that
- 23:24more like, you know, fun, fun aspect to it.
- 23:28I love it. I love the way so dismissive on
- 23:30There you are, you know. Look at that knows.
- 23:37Probably could dismiss anyone, couldn't he?
- 23:39Yeah, yeah. I'd like to have seen a scene
- 23:42with him in the Prime Minister, you know, just storming out.
- 23:47They done a good job on this recolorization I think.
- 23:52Well yeah I mean two to six there was the color recovery
- 23:57that with the chroma dots but the episode one and it then it
- 23:59turned off so there was no chroma dots episode one.
- 24:02So in order to this Stuart Humphreys whose Babel color.
- 24:06Because they have to recolor if he he colored episode one from
- 24:09from scratch frame by frame. Right.
- 24:12Really. Yeah.
- 24:13It it drove him around the bend, apparently.
- 24:16It did. And he was very, and I
- 24:18completely get it. He was completely he was really
- 24:20perturbed that he didn't get a single credit on the DVD.
- 24:24But yeah, but but none of. But that's the case none of the
- 24:28restoration team get. He got credits on the DVD.
- 24:31So he wasn't alone there. But they should.
- 24:33All they should have done, and they do in the Blue Ray booklet
- 24:35now, right? How does this work, Joe?
- 24:37This guy's been frightened to death from rats, but yet there
- 24:41are physical marks on his face from kind of he's got bites and
- 24:44scratches. Maybe he was just sort of
- 24:47chloroed at his face. Yeah, but not, they say later,
- 24:49Those marks were kind of caused by bites and scratches.
- 24:53I've got it, I've got it. It's what's it called, psycho,
- 24:57psychosomatic. So he fought it so it was so
- 25:01real, Yeah. Had physical symptoms, yeah.
- 25:06All right. OK, I love, I love how the
- 25:09doctor said then. Well, we should get a postmortem
- 25:11and the doctor goes, what a good idea.
- 25:13As if that's not, like part of the course.
- 25:17Joe, I feel like we get very different Joey in this story
- 25:19than any other story. Well, he's remarkably competent
- 25:22in this story. That's the that's the kind of
- 25:25argument to the fact that Joe, Joe had this three story arc and
- 25:29she started really ditzy and then she became like a a
- 25:31scientist by the end of three years in a second story, she
- 25:33brings down a prison riot. So you know it's.
- 25:36It's it's it's not I love. I love that bit of exposition.
- 25:39Today's the first piece come. She should have said that
- 25:41Screaming Brigadier is a charge of the skewed ring.
- 25:47It's. Got something to do with that?
- 25:49Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:50Oh, here he is. Here he is.
- 25:53Oh, look, sorry. I need to just mention Lucy
- 25:56McCall for a second. Yeah, yeah, Brigadier is
- 25:58greatest fan. Oh, isn't he handsome?
- 26:01It is. Words.
- 26:04I like how he delivers every single line, right?
- 26:06Totally. Seriously.
- 26:07But like he's about to break into a laugh any minute.
- 26:10Yeah, yeah, yeah, the the Doctor, Brigadier sings.
- 26:13Where the Doctor is taking the piss out of him.
- 26:16But he's doing it. He's not doing nasty way, he's
- 26:18doing it the playful way which which is lovely.
- 26:20And As for Mike Yates, yeah, he's he's he's terrible in this.
- 26:26I'm sorry. He's, well, I don't want a bits
- 26:28where he's sort of trying, pretending to be an action hero,
- 26:31going around on the bike and all of that.
- 26:32Yeah, yeah. He's a bit where he goes.
- 26:34It's, it's it's it's an aside. You're feeling normal yet it's
- 26:39it's looking bringing the chair out for her yeah but but she is
- 26:45I mean she she is she is amazing pics and then it's she just she
- 26:49just disappears in episode 3 and we don't she's kind of built up
- 26:52with that the big it's such a shame.
- 26:53I know she was like the the and the writer's wife and all that
- 26:56we got. We got a brief glimpse of
- 26:58Corporal Bell there as well. Shame on them for not bringing
- 27:01Corporal Bell back. Like they brought back Yeats and
- 27:04I was sure they brought back once.
- 27:06Yeah, well yeah, I think she. And then when they do bring her
- 27:09back, I think it's only in episode one of where she
- 27:12delivers a famous line freak weather conditions.
- 27:15Well, I'm going to say this. Thank goodness that Timothy
- 27:20Coomb or whoever Don Horton sorry was married to pick them
- 27:23in. Otherwise our fear we may have
- 27:26had because apparently there was no actresses they could find.
- 27:29We may have had some pretty dodgy casting.
- 27:31Yeah. Yeah, he's going to deliver his
- 27:34cut. He's going to deliver his line.
- 27:35Oh, look at him, man. Look at him.
- 27:38She's. He's feeling no one.
- 27:40I love how the UNIT HQ in this one appears to be on the set of
- 27:43Upstairs Downstairs. You live next door to Jean
- 27:46Marsh. On it's not even.
- 27:48Place this is the Ambassadorial Suites.
- 27:51Remember that you mentioned that later?
- 27:53Well, and yeah, because I suppose you wouldn't put Unit HQ
- 27:55in front of a player park, would you?
- 27:58It's a lovely street where it's a lovely St. wherever it is.
- 28:00This is, I think this scene is quite unusual, like her walking
- 28:03through the kids. It's that it's that weird.
- 28:06I'm going to try to be intelligent for a second.
- 28:08Juxtaposition between the innocence of the kids and the
- 28:12previous stuff. That's going on in front of the
- 28:13camera. That's probably a link that
- 28:16would didn't even enter their head, Joe.
- 28:17But, but, but go ahead and think of it anyway.
- 28:21Look we've got to give up something.
- 28:22Listening to this yeah. I mean I'm I'm gonna said I'll
- 28:25try and come out all these kind of like fresh takes off for it
- 28:28won't I think irreverent is going to be the tone of this of
- 28:32this particular edition of hamster.
- 28:35Well, given it's such a serious story, that might be quite fun,
- 28:37you know? Well, yeah, we've got, we've got
- 28:38to offset all the, all the grittiness with the.
- 28:42The grossiness yeah, with with some do entendre.
- 28:46Actually this is quite a clinical set.
- 28:48You know, maybe this is a bit season seven.
- 28:50Yeah. Well, you see.
- 28:52Well, is it there is the argument.
- 28:53Oh yeah, it's like a season seven story.
- 28:55But that's because of the prison setting, really.
- 28:59I mean, the kind of the actual, like the threat of the mind
- 29:02parasite. I don't think you would have got
- 29:03that in Season 7. I always think it's just like
- 29:06the high action content. All that works, yeah.
- 29:08Yeah, that's what makes me. Because season seven, and then
- 29:11I'll tell you what some of those sequences they stage are.
- 29:15It's all, it's fantastic. There's a good one later where
- 29:17this guy this guy just falls on the table and the table is good.
- 29:21He's getting his money. You know, Angele Mahindra's
- 29:24watching this, Yeah. And she goes back in the day,
- 29:27she's on the bar and it's over, yeah.
- 29:28Yeah, back in the day, you know that they didn't have any money
- 29:30to make, Doctor, you know, we've got all the budget now, she
- 29:33goes. I'm starting to think watching
- 29:35this with helicopters and seizures on prisons, that we've
- 29:38had the budget cut and they had the money back.
- 29:40It was a massive overspend. It's a shame.
- 29:43It's a shit. Others that's why he never came
- 29:45back. But it's a shame that those kind
- 29:46of myths of, you know, Doctor Oswalty sets, and that no money
- 29:48has now been kind of gone down to her generation too, and
- 29:52probably younger. You know, it's cheap.
- 29:54You know, this isn't cheap at all.
- 29:55This is lovely. I kind of and he.
- 29:59His eyes there with a sort of blue-green.
- 30:01They look lovely, yeah. Yeah, Bluer than Tom I want.
- 30:06I once worked at a school, once worked at a school, and I used
- 30:09to do a Doctor Who club in the kind of the height of the of the
- 30:11Russell T Davies era. And I there was this cleaner.
- 30:15I doored her. She was like, really old, like
- 30:17Geordie lady. And she would she want, hey.
- 30:19Yeah. I once met Tom Baker, you know.
- 30:21Yeah. The bluest eyes I've ever seen.
- 30:26She was a legend. I loved her.
- 30:27I'll. Keep hearing about these dogs
- 30:28who? I never had nothing like that
- 30:30when I was at school. Yeah, well, you're too old, you
- 30:34know. Did you get like much of an
- 30:35uptake, what, in the Doctor Who club?
- 30:38Oh yeah, it was, yeah, it was quite quite about 15 or so.
- 30:42I'm skipping over the comment you just made there about me
- 30:44being old, all right? No way would there have been
- 30:47like a Doctor Who Club in schools in the late 80s.
- 30:50Now listen, I'm going to contradict you there, because
- 30:52Jason Thompson told me on that the other day that they were
- 30:55watching Arkin Space when he was a nipper.
- 30:57And he's like that. Did you say that's canny?
- 31:03Yeah, Canny. I love the Northern Daleks.
- 31:07Yeah, canny. Canny is has different meanings.
- 31:10Or I think down South, if you say oh you oh, that was a bit
- 31:13canny, it means like, shrewd, whereas we just mean it'd be
- 31:16like really good. What does Connie mean then?
- 31:20Connie? I've not heard that before.
- 31:22I might be more of a Newcastle. No, no.
- 31:25Being very rude, maybe when maybe there was a spelling
- 31:27mistake and they put a 22 ends in rather than another take.
- 31:31I don't know. Like, yeah, yeah, it's.
- 31:33They're lifting his trousers up. The sit down did.
- 31:36You report with our Dominica really went, if I was a
- 31:39scientist, yeah, yeah. And he says I'm.
- 31:42I would have been for like thousands of years.
- 31:44I think that's kind of like is the Doctor.
- 31:46I think he's talking about the lifespan of the planet maybe.
- 31:49I don't know, rather than the Doctor's personal age.
- 31:53It's just great. I don't know.
- 31:56There's all this kind of archaic language in these loads of
- 32:01characters around. This even said come now doctor,
- 32:04you don't get that now. The writers of the Discontinuity
- 32:10Guide were there with a pencil. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:13Oh, come now, Doctor. Honest.
- 32:16I think Simon lacks about to be offed already.
- 32:18Sorry, I know that the machine looks a bit shit, but it's a
- 32:23scary idea. Of this thing does and makes you
- 32:27experience them and gives your heart attack and you die.
- 32:29The thing is though, they do it twice don't in the paper here,
- 32:32because in frontier in space they do exactly the same thing.
- 32:34Oh yeah, but it. But it's it's He's kind of like
- 32:37made a portable color machine. Greg, this device will go into
- 32:41the fear centers of your. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:45And then she sees a mutant. What would you see then?
- 32:49An empty bar. I don't know.
- 32:56About 2 1/2 inches, yeah, yeah. No, my heart would give up.
- 33:02Oh look, look, Simon. Lack is terrified of all clips
- 33:05from Fury From the Deep. Oh, I'm not surprised.
- 33:08Mr. Oak and Mr. Quill would, yeah, he's he's getting
- 33:11palpitations from Mrs. Harris walking into the sea.
- 33:15If I did this, oh, say it's a black that doesn't.
- 33:17That doesn't happen very often in it.
- 33:19Sorry, go ahead. There's a couple, actually.
- 33:20I did know. It's a couple of transitions.
- 33:23If I did this, what would you say to me?
- 33:24You ready? Donna.
- 33:27Donna. Oh, man, you're in so deep.
- 33:33You're in as deep as I am. It's good music, though.
- 33:38I loved that. I loved that the governor came
- 33:40in and saw the body on the front went dead.
- 33:47Is it a complete inconvenience to?
- 33:48This is literally not during my day at market.
- 33:51Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:51Any good at all? Not him too, but he, but a bit
- 33:56like the rat, he's, he's died of a fear of drowning and he's he's
- 34:00got water in his lungs. So, like, you know, where did
- 34:03that water come from? And why, when the Doctor sees
- 34:06the flames, does he not burn? Well, because he karate chops
- 34:12them when he sees them, as we'll see late.
- 34:13You know, Terence Dix always says he could cover these things
- 34:16with a line. So, But look how commanding he
- 34:19is here. He's fantastic.
- 34:22It's dangerous and it must. Be destroyed now.
- 34:25Must be destroyed. That was great.
- 34:29They really gave him a headache in his last season in the in
- 34:31terms of S's. We had sun torrents, dinosaurs,
- 34:34Daleks and Exelon and then the spiders of Metabilis.
- 34:38And once monster James Smith Yeah, they were just trolling
- 34:43him by then I. Think they probably were.
- 34:47Do you like the unique setup like is?
- 34:49Do you like. Yeah, I like Nick Corny.
- 34:54Yeah, I'd have been. I'd been happy with like I'll
- 35:01talk. I'll talk about Ben to next
- 35:03episode when we see him. But I mean I wish that there was
- 35:08like a, you know, like that in season 7 where there was a a
- 35:11different like captain every week always call Jimmy and and
- 35:16that that would be more realistic to me if you had like
- 35:18a kind of like a turnover stuff and not the same three people
- 35:21every week. And just bring in all the best
- 35:23sort of people in the spy dramas.
- 35:25The time from episode Richard. Richard Franklin can't do
- 35:28action. I'm sorry, he.
- 35:31Should be a poet, shouldn't he? Not a soldier.
- 35:34There's a bit later on where he kind of like he says I'm sorry
- 35:37Doctor, I'm going to take you back to UNIT HQ.
- 35:39Even I have you force. And he just puts his hand out on
- 35:42on Pertley's shoulder. Do you?
- 35:46Remember that bit where he was a total bastard and he was like,
- 35:51move Sergeant Benson? Oh, Joe.
- 35:53How? Oh yeah, yeah.
- 35:54Nick Phoenix Benton's food. He can.
- 35:58He can't deserve that. No, that there are a few like,
- 36:04you know people in in The Who world called Levine and and
- 36:08they're all a bit, they're all a bit strange.
- 36:11That's right. I'll just, I'll just say.
- 36:13See you next Tuesday, All right. This guy played playing.
- 36:18The governor's really good too, and and he kind of disappears
- 36:20quite early on, which is a shame.
- 36:23Yeah, Barry Letts says. Actually, on the I love that.
- 36:25I love that you should work with a rather attractive Chinese
- 36:27girl. And then it cuts to her and it's
- 36:30like, Oh yeah. Because there's 19010 you as
- 36:32fucking link between 2 plots. I'm telling you, yeah, yeah,
- 36:36they do it later on because the Brigadier says Oh yeah, the
- 36:39Chinese, Chinese girl. You must put an alert out of
- 36:41that Chinese girl, you. Know what?
- 36:45Chinese girl Like there's only one in London.
- 36:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. There may be, but it's it's the
- 36:51whole rather attractive but as well it's just like really you
- 36:56know but but you know it was 1971 or 72 if you're watching it
- 37:01I. Don't know why.
- 37:02There's something about Nick Courtney and there's something
- 37:03about Ian Malta. Like, they can be incredibly
- 37:06sexist, but it's in sort of such a charming way, yeah.
- 37:12I don't really. I don't.
- 37:14I don't get any effect. It's not like I did with that
- 37:15Dolly line that. Yeah, yeah, that, that.
- 37:18That's horrible. Yeah, she's quite a Dolly.
- 37:24It's also unconvincing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:27Maybe he's just really, he's just really trying to convince
- 37:30everyone. And he yeah, look at.
- 37:33The latest unique recruit. I'd get it.
- 37:35But this, this is, this is Katie's favorite story
- 37:37apparently. And I can, I can completely
- 37:40understand it. I can completely understand why.
- 37:42Because like I said, she's she's really kind of like she gets
- 37:44really good. She gets some good stuff to do.
- 37:46Is it? Is it nice to have a companion
- 37:48with the same name as you, Joe? What?
- 37:50I love it every time Joe do it, I'm like, I do it.
- 37:56I do it like 50 years for a Craig and then he was playing by
- 37:58James fucking Corden. You know.
- 38:01So where where's I start watching a program that gets
- 38:05cancelled within a year and then I get named after me and he and
- 38:08he. It's written by Gareth Roberts
- 38:09and he's it's James Corden. Ooh.
- 38:12Sorry, mate. You had no luck at all with.
- 38:14Yeah. I don't think it wasn't Craig
- 38:16before that, Wasn't it? Ever.
- 38:17I don't think there is. I don't there is no.
- 38:20I think I would have. Sorry.
- 38:23Yeah, but you know what? Every time I'm mentioned, I'm
- 38:25fucking patronized in Doctor Who.
- 38:27Yeah, you know, I know I'd much rather be remember.
- 38:32This line, Joe, the Brigadier is your superior officer, so you
- 38:36can at least show a bit of respect.
- 38:38I know it's. Oh God, here we go.
- 38:40Where the cliffhanger is he? This is this is where he starts
- 38:43to kind of you know people always talk about you know
- 38:45Ingrid Pitt karate chopping the karate chopping the Mirka hurt.
- 38:48We starts to cry chop the flames that kind of right no one.
- 38:52Yeah. The next time he gets he gets
- 38:56kind of exposed to the color machine.
- 38:57They tie his hands around his back.
- 38:58So I think it's probably would stop him from from doing Ike to
- 39:01on a on a on a football blessing.
- 39:03See, this is the problem, isn't it?
- 39:04John Purp. We can't can't like.
- 39:06No, He gurns what? He gurns when he's under.
- 39:08He did the same thing on Silerians.
- 39:09His eyes widened and he it just looks comical.
- 39:11Yeah, he's he's going. To be outside then he yeah, and
- 39:14you just can't, like, take it seriously.
- 39:15But bless him. I mean, at least there is the
- 39:17Flames and it is linked back to Inferno, which is which, and
- 39:22it's great, but it's also it's also very kind of like uncommon
- 39:24to have like a link back to a previous story.
- 39:27More in this here than they do, yeah.
- 39:29Yeah, because we get the other plants spiders, as Joe's
- 39:31mentioned, and the crystal comes back.
- 39:32But it's nice touch whether or not Don Horton was just going to
- 39:36like, you know, kind of bigging up.
- 39:38He's Inferno. I don't know.
- 39:39And it's very good. Why wouldn't he?
- 39:43When he sees the most fearsome foes he ever met later, You know
- 39:46the Zarbi. Yeah, well, I've got, I've got a
- 39:50theory about Kukula. Great.
- 39:52Well, why? Why he sees that?
- 39:53I don't think it's an original one, but it's.
- 39:56Well, it explains it. I don't.
- 39:58I can't explain the war machine and and the Zarbi is his
- 40:00greatest fears. Nowhere but Kukulin.
- 40:04There is a. There is a kind of like a story
- 40:07you could explain it with. Excuse me?
- 40:09I caught up a nose. You put a picture up here of you
- 40:11wearing a policeman's helmet and you're not wearing it.
- 40:16I've got your headset on, Okay. Do you Do you go straight into
- 40:19Part 2 or no, no, no. We've got to answer a few two
- 40:22questions first. Yes, let's.
- 40:25So I'm going to throw them at you and then I've got a personal
- 40:28question for you as well. All right, we'll stop recording
- 40:32for that one. I'm going to ask you on the mic
- 40:35so it's all on record. Okay.
- 40:38Let me go into this and see what we have got.
- 40:41That's quite a lot of quite a lot of questions, didn't we?
- 40:44Well, they must have taken. A while I'm not used to that
- 40:47many notifications in one demo, I must take one look at your
- 40:51picture and feel free to him. Listeners, feel free to follow
- 40:55me at Craig Will 1082. I had a I had a great Twitter
- 40:57account and then I left Twitter and then I came back.
- 40:59But I'd like delete my original ones.
- 41:01I think we've got 100 followers at the minute.
- 41:03Well, I'll tell you this now. This, this thing, hamster, it
- 41:07has a fair following now, and I'm truly hoping this isn't the
- 41:10last. I'm going to hear from you.
- 41:12We're going to get your name out there, baby.
- 41:16But first the inquisition begins.
- 41:20Nathan Bottomley asks. Is the idea that crime is caused
- 41:25by evil impulses in the brain that you can store in a box the
- 41:29dumbest and most heinous idea in the entire purple era?
- 41:35Probably, but it's Pandora's box, isn't it?
- 41:38Which is a story that's kind of like.
- 41:41Thousands of years old. I think the I think the working
- 41:43title for this story was The Pandora Machine or something.
- 41:46How was it? I think so, yeah.
- 41:47But but I can see, right? Yeah, like taking out emotions
- 41:51and putting them into a box, but the end of the day, Doctor Who
- 41:54was a time traveling place box. So it's kind of, yeah.
- 41:57You just can just say that to anything.
- 41:59That's kind of fantastical. Every time I hear that back kill
- 42:02the moon, you know, then people go.
- 42:04It's so absurd. I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:06What show you're watching, right?
- 42:08Yeah, yeah. OK, well here's another one for
- 42:10you then. My dear friend Paul Quinn asks
- 42:13would this work as a masterless 4 part story?
- 42:15See also Colony in Space and Axles.
- 42:20No, because the masters the instigator of the whole thing.
- 42:24So if you take the master out of it, nothing would happen.
- 42:26This wouldn't have happened. What was this easy?
- 42:29Suggesting we replace the Master with a different villain?
- 42:33I'm not too sure. It doesn't go into any details.
- 42:36What are you talking about? The Masters?
- 42:37The best thing in this? Yeah, and he looks amazing in
- 42:40this one and you know a bit where he's got the cigar in his
- 42:42mouth. And he's what he.
- 42:45The fur court, which is which is which is going to be real fair.
- 42:48And it's probably from another way he's killed himself.
- 42:52All right, I'm going to throw it up one at you all of time and
- 42:54space. Oh, it's a fabulous podcast.
- 42:57Oh yeah, they are like that one. What would be in your, I've
- 43:00asked you this in your scary hallucinations if you were
- 43:03subjected to the Keller machine? You can't say empty bar this
- 43:07time. An empty pub, OK?
- 43:13I don't know. No tea bags in the cupboard,
- 43:16Yeah, no biscuits in the jar. Yeah, yeah, it's Christ.
- 43:20I would have a heart attack. All right, one more.
- 43:23Yeah. Lovely lovely Daniel Wrongsley,
- 43:25massive supporter of this podcast, says the Master's fear
- 43:29of a ghostly, all powerful doctor looming over him
- 43:32eventually sort of comes true in Last of the Time Lords.
- 43:35Yeah, when I watched Last of the Time Lords, I thought that's
- 43:39the. That's the mine of evil
- 43:40throwback. Whether or not you you meant it
- 43:42to be, I don't know, but I think a lot of fans kind of got that
- 43:45from that particular episode. By having Delgado as a regular
- 43:49feature of the PERT we era, they managed to sidestep the law of
- 43:53diminishing returns. I've never, I've never had a
- 43:58problem with the Master being in every story, in season, it all
- 44:01me. And I don't know if I would have
- 44:03that same feeling if I was watching them for the first time
- 44:05in the 70s and all him again. But Delgado so good you don't
- 44:09really care about. I wish he was in every single
- 44:11story in season nine too. You know we could have, we could
- 44:14have crawled bar him into cursive paladon.
- 44:16He could have been like, you know, he could have been like
- 44:19hypnotized. What's he called he could.
- 44:22Dave. The Daleks.
- 44:23They've got a bloke in exactly the same costume but it's just
- 44:26in green. So you could have what else in
- 44:30the mutants. He could have been stirring the
- 44:31pot with all kind of like the solos kind of problem in the in
- 44:35the marsh and all that. Yeah.
- 44:37About. Yeah.
- 44:38I have no problem with the master being a kind of recurring
- 44:40character. I wish he was in more.
- 44:42You know how he that. Wasn't the question, though, was
- 44:43it? Well, no, no, he's saying.
- 44:45Is it? Yeah, from his so many
- 44:46appearances, it does it. Does it?
- 44:48Well, they they've always they've they've they've always
- 44:50set that problem because of Roger Delgado, I feel.
- 44:53Because you're so good. Yeah, I agree.
- 44:55And you know, but weirdly enough we just wouldn't have it in the
- 44:58new series, would we? Imagine that the new series
- 45:00every single episode. The Master was it is Delgado.
- 45:04Yeah, I think that. And I think sometimes they do
- 45:06toy with it because they don't bring him in until episode 4 and
- 45:08some stories or right at the end of episode ones with closed box
- 45:13or so you get the point where expecting to turn up and then he
- 45:15doesn't turn up seeing always on this one, but then he comes in
- 45:17next week instead. Well, and I love the trick they
- 45:22pull off in Colony in space, where it's like, well, we're
- 45:24four episodes deep, he's not going to appear.
- 45:27He can't be has arrived. You know, I know.
- 45:30But the other thing is that they mentioned him in episode one,
- 45:32saying he's escaped with the team's day weapon.
- 45:34Let's send the doctor on a mission.
- 45:35Oh shit, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:36So you. So you would be expecting it to
- 45:38turn up in the way that the brig's looking for him in that
- 45:40you know, so he is like mentioned in episode one, but
- 45:42well, the time you get to episode 4.
- 45:44Yeah, you could have. Where is he?
- 45:45It was 3 weeks ago. They've gone.
- 45:47We didn't out on Netflix, did we?
- 45:50Let's watch next. Let's watch next week's Now.
- 45:53I really hope the new series is going on that route.
- 45:56I really hope it's kind of drip fed rather than Oh yeah, of
- 45:59course. Because everything's just
- 46:00dropped in one go. Now there's a few series that
- 46:02aren't, but yeah, I know, I I hope we think that will be one a
- 46:06week. Yeah, we, I hope so, Okay.
- 46:09Well, the last question then before we add it.
- 46:10So one is, what the hell does Mackel mean?
- 46:18It did phrase ask that question. By any chance he did.
- 46:21Don't forget to ask Craig what Maccam is.
- 46:24Maccam is the term given to somebody who lives in Sunland,
- 46:28who's from some born in Sunland. You're a Maccam because Sunland
- 46:32has a very rich shipbuilding history and Sunland used to make
- 46:37them the ships and Newcastle used to take them.
- 46:42So someone were the Maccams and Newcastle was the tackhams.
- 46:47So I don't know why they they called Jordie's instead of
- 46:50tackhams. They would have provided a nice
- 46:52kind of like, you know, contrast.
- 46:54But no, we call Mackhams because we used to make ships.
- 46:57So Sunlands, Mackhams and Newcastle is tackhams.
- 47:00Yeah, we used they, We'd make the ships and then they've taken
- 47:03to Newcastle. They'd be kind of fitted out and
- 47:05stuff and then they'd send them off to wherever they were
- 47:07needed. I'm gonna fire him a message
- 47:08later and say, yeah, Dirty Tackham.
- 47:11Yeah, yeah, do what? He said, well, he's from
- 47:14Gateshead, isn't he? So he's not really.
- 47:17He lives in. Is he from Gateshead or Born
- 47:19and? Not sure.
- 47:19I'm scared he's going to shock us all one day.
- 47:21Gates at Gateshead probably have their own kind of like names say
- 47:24he's from Kensington or somewhere like that, and things
- 47:27been one big act. Well, Middlesbrough, which is
- 47:30like down the road, they, but they're smoggies because they've
- 47:33got they've got yeah they've got like a massive power plant in
- 47:36their you hit. Middlesbrough was something like
- 47:39the kind of the head of schools, completely kind of foggy.
- 47:42People from Martown were called creepies because I'm from
- 47:47Crawley, so we were creepy Crawleys.
- 47:49I mean, it's miserable, isn't it?
- 47:51Did he what? What?
- 47:52Jody Whitaker, 7 Graham Norton. When she said, oh, there were
- 47:55shot last, shot last. Yeah, and she's trying to
- 47:59explain it. There's some Hollywood A Lister
- 48:01next to her. Look.
- 48:02Yeah, yeah, she's fucking mad. Oh, great.
- 48:07That was a marvelous episode one.
- 48:08Thank you so much. That's okay diminishing returns.
- 48:11From here on after I pray, I don't believe it for a second,
- 48:14but I think we should probably go and skip on into Episode 2.
- 48:18Yeah, I want to make another cup of tea.
- 48:21Okay, you do that. I'll make a coffee and we'll get
- 48:23go.
