- 0:19Speaker 1: all your New Year's resolutions and staying healthy. Welcome back
- 0:28Speaker 1: to the Richard Sherman Podcast. And guess what, Mitchell, The
- 0:32Speaker 1: season is over and the Seattle Seahawks have won the
- 0:36Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Who could have predicted it? Who could have
- 0:39Speaker 1: saw that coming? This guy, this guy got this got
- 0:44Speaker 1: thought of that chance. An incredible game, an incredible game
- 0:48Speaker 1: planning by Mike McDonald from start to finish. I got
- 0:52Speaker 1: so much to talk about, so many details. I sat
- 0:55Speaker 1: there after the game, got talked to some of the coaches,
- 0:57Speaker 1: some of the players, got some insight. No names associated
- 1:02Speaker 1: with these quotes and information, but wow did they take
- 1:07Speaker 1: their time dissecting these New England Patriots Mitchell from the
- 1:12Speaker 1: hand signals, to the to the to when he lifted
- 1:16Speaker 1: his foot, to offensive line stances and these are all
- 1:20Speaker 1: things that all teams study and all teams teams try
- 1:24Speaker 1: to understand. But the way in which the Seattle Seahawks
- 1:29Speaker 1: understood the New England Patriots was I mean, they understood
- 1:34Speaker 1: them like they they've known them their entire lives. I'm
- 1:36Speaker 1: guessing they understood what they had for breakfast that morning,
- 1:40Speaker 1: the probiotics they take. Mitchell, I'm talking about how much
- 1:43Speaker 1: apple juice they had that week. I'm talking about to
- 1:47Speaker 1: the screws. And that's why you cannot give Mike McDonald
- 1:51Speaker 1: this kind of time. He's obsessive, compulsive. He is obsessed,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and they when they talked about how he prepared and
- 1:59Speaker 1: the things he studying, like, I don't think fans truly
- 2:02Speaker 1: are understanding the time he's putting in to understand, to
- 2:08Speaker 1: put his guys in position, to understand the other coordinator
- 2:13Speaker 1: as if it's his brother, and understand what he's going
- 2:17Speaker 1: to do in these situations so he can put his
- 2:19Speaker 1: guys in the exact perfect position to be successful, not
- 2:23Speaker 1: putting pressure on his players to perform and understand and recognize.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Although you got really smart and talented players who can
- 2:32Speaker 1: do that, who are out there doing that and doing
- 2:34Speaker 1: their jobs at a high level, but Mike McDonald is
- 2:38Speaker 1: putting it on himself to call the perfect play. You
- 2:42Speaker 1: got to give Devin Witherspoon a ton of credit. I mean,
- 2:45Speaker 1: the story all week was can Nick m and Worry play?
- 2:49Speaker 1: How bad's the ankle? Is he going to be one
- 2:53Speaker 1: hundred percent? He's so important to this defense? It did
- 2:56Speaker 1: not matter. That's a Nick Emon Worry was fine. But
- 3:01Speaker 1: the way they attacked Will Campbell throughout this game, the
- 3:04Speaker 1: way they attacked the B gap in this game with
- 3:07Speaker 1: with Devin Witherspoon, with with games and and then you
- 3:13Speaker 1: got to take it a step further and look at
- 3:16Speaker 1: the history between Derek Carr and Will Campbell. Because I
- 3:19Speaker 1: had a conversation with him and he was like, I
- 3:21Speaker 1: knew this guy from college. I had no miss misgivings,
- 3:25Speaker 1: misunderstandings about who I was dealing with, and I had
- 3:27Speaker 1: a great plan and he did. He had great plan.
- 3:29Speaker 1: He ended up with two sacks in the game. Byron Murphy,
- 3:33Speaker 1: incredible story goes from first rounder and they're they're they're
- 3:38Speaker 1: talking about he's not getting the stats.
- 3:39Speaker 2: He's a bus. He's a bus.
- 3:41Speaker 1: This is this is a message to all the fans
- 3:44Speaker 1: out there don't be quick to judgment, especially with certain positions,
- 3:48Speaker 1: because sometimes it takes a second to get it. Sometimes
- 3:53Speaker 1: you need a little more veteran presence, a few more
- 3:56Speaker 1: reps figure out your move. Now, he's wanted to those
- 4:00Speaker 1: stout defensive lineman in the National Football League two sacks
- 4:03Speaker 1: in the in the Super Bowl and played that plays
- 4:07Speaker 1: an enormous part in this run, in this great run
- 4:10Speaker 1: stopping defense, allowing those two safeties to play deep. Uh,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and and them to stop still stop the run. Uh.
- 4:16Speaker 1: There were so many guys that played really well in
- 4:18Speaker 1: this game. You Chen and Nuosu got the interception off
- 4:22Speaker 1: the off the Witherspoon what looked like a force fumble,
- 4:26Speaker 1: but they called it an interception. Didn't matter either way
- 4:28Speaker 1: because he caught it and scored it. But they were
- 4:30Speaker 1: in control the entire game. And Julian Love said from
- 4:34Speaker 1: the opening drive, they knew how this game was gonna go. Mitchell,
- 4:40Speaker 1: So did I, So did I? In a great defense,
- 4:43Speaker 1: you know, Mitchell, you know soon as you punch bam like,
- 4:47Speaker 1: oh these guys, these guys are soft, they're not built
- 4:50Speaker 1: for this. And I think the Seattle Seahawks came in
- 4:53Speaker 1: with such an aggressive mentality. Defensively, they were a buzz saw.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And I said this a couple of weeks ago. When
- 5:00Speaker 1: a bus saw is gone, Mittroll, it doesn't matter what's
- 5:02Speaker 1: in the way. It's getting shredded, and it's getting shredded.
- 5:06Speaker 1: The bus saw is going. It does not matter what's
- 5:08Speaker 1: in the way. And the New England Patriots just happened
- 5:11Speaker 1: to be in a way. It was nothing personal with
- 5:13Speaker 1: them from the mob and and them have a rivalry
- 5:17Speaker 1: with the Patriots. I'm sure you know, getting your lick
- 5:20Speaker 1: back is great, and we wanted our revenge and those
- 5:22Speaker 1: guys got our revenge. But they didn't care if it
- 5:26Speaker 1: was the New England Patriots, the eighty five Bears, the
- 5:33Speaker 1: Dolphins that were undefeated, the New England Patriots and Tom
- 5:37Speaker 1: Brady's coming back in his prime.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Mentell. This defense did not care.
- 5:42Speaker 1: And Mike McDonald said it after the NFC Championship game.
- 5:46Speaker 1: We do not care. We do not care about what
- 5:48Speaker 1: y'all saying, what y'all doing. And that's the scariest part
- 5:51Speaker 1: about this team. They're not going anywhere. They're gonna be
- 5:55Speaker 1: great for a long time, and they're sitting there, they're
- 5:58Speaker 1: so locked in, they're like, man, I wish we had
- 6:00Speaker 1: another game. You just won a Super Bowl and you
- 6:02Speaker 1: talk about I wish I had another game.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Yes, psychotic, Richard. It's wild and just from my perspective,
- 6:11Speaker 3: this is one of the more dominant performances in a
- 6:13Speaker 3: Super Bowl. It kind of was similar to your guys
- 6:16Speaker 3: beating up the Denver Broncos years ago.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Richard.
- 6:19Speaker 3: This defense is high flying, they're prolific. They're obviously top
- 6:23Speaker 3: of their game. Any debate that there might have been
- 6:26Speaker 3: that this team wasn't the best team in the league,
- 6:28Speaker 3: they shut that down during the Super Bowl. This team
- 6:33Speaker 3: definitely is the best team in the league. I don't
- 6:35Speaker 3: think there's any questions about it. The New England Patriots,
- 6:38Speaker 3: to me, looked like they were shocked at how good
- 6:40Speaker 3: the Seattle Seahawks were, especially defensively on the offensive side
- 6:44Speaker 3: of the ball. My boy K nine, Richard, Well, I'd
- 6:48Speaker 3: like to humbly admit I called a couple of weeks
- 6:52Speaker 3: ago would win the MVP of this game. Sure enough, Richard.
- 6:55Speaker 3: He was a heavy dose of K nine early and
- 6:59Speaker 3: often was all the Seattle Seahawks offense really needed to
- 7:02Speaker 3: get going, and we saw it consistently throughout this game, Richard,
- 7:07Speaker 3: how impressed with you? I know you were very impressed
- 7:09Speaker 3: with the defensive effort out there, but what do you
- 7:11Speaker 3: think of the you know, the game plan from an
- 7:14Speaker 3: offensive standpoint in this game, Well, I thought.
- 7:17Speaker 2: It was incredible.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I knew they would need to lean on the run
- 7:20Speaker 1: game to have success against New England Patriots. I thought
- 7:23Speaker 1: that'd be a tough task. But the best players play
- 7:27Speaker 1: their best when their best is required, and K nine
- 7:29Speaker 1: played his best football the last probably five six weeks
- 7:33Speaker 1: of the season. After Zach Charbonne goes out with an injury.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He steps up in a big way, gets a high,
- 7:39Speaker 1: heavier workload and just locks in in This game was
- 7:42Speaker 1: his swan song, was his Krim dela Krim. He got
- 7:46Speaker 1: it done at a high level. You could see him
- 7:49Speaker 1: manipulating the defensive lineman, setting up his blocks in a
- 7:53Speaker 1: really cool way, accelerating around the edge, just having a
- 7:57Speaker 1: great feel for this scheme and what expected of him,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and the New England Patriots had no answer for him.
- 8:05Speaker 2: They had no answer.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I don't think they had missed that many tackles in
- 8:08Speaker 1: any game this season. I don't think they had given
- 8:10Speaker 1: up that many yards after contact in any game this season.
- 8:14Speaker 1: K nine played at a different level that they were
- 8:16Speaker 1: unprepared for and unprepared to respond to. And then I
- 8:21Speaker 1: know everybody's like, oh, Sam Darnold didn't do anything crazy.
- 8:24Speaker 1: You lose Jackson Smith and Jig but in this game
- 8:26Speaker 1: to what I believe was a concussion, And shout out
- 8:29Speaker 1: to the Seattle Seahawks training staff, Strick and those guys
- 8:32Speaker 1: for doing the things necessary to protect him, even in
- 8:36Speaker 1: the biggest games, because sometimes you run into situations, Mitchell,
- 8:39Speaker 1: where a player, your best player, player, especially offensive player
- 8:43Speaker 1: of the year type player, is maybe has concussion symptoms
- 8:48Speaker 1: and there might be a conversation where you look at
- 8:51Speaker 1: each other and you say, hey, you sure you sure you.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Want to walk away right now. But they didn't do that.
- 8:57Speaker 1: The tek him in the locker room, got him checked out,
- 8:59Speaker 1: did what was better for him in his future, and
- 9:01Speaker 1: the team still able to win. That's an organization doing
- 9:04Speaker 1: things right. And I appreciate that Sam Darnold did a
- 9:08Speaker 1: great job. I thought he did a phenomenal job trying
- 9:10Speaker 1: to push the ball down the field.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I loved the throat to Rashid Shahid.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I saw it happening live and I knew as soon
- 9:16Speaker 1: as they got the isolation on christianiam zalez I was like, hey,
- 9:20Speaker 1: ball needs to go up. It's a foot race with
- 9:22Speaker 1: the fastest guy on the field. But shout out to
- 9:24Speaker 1: Christian zalas one of the most unbelievable performances in the
- 9:29Speaker 1: Super Bowl for a defensive back that I've ever seen.
- 9:33Speaker 1: He got three targets and three forced in completions on
- 9:36Speaker 1: three different players. One on was on JSN. Jays N
- 9:39Speaker 1: gave him a post move, doubled him up as a corner,
- 9:45Speaker 1: great corner. He showed so much patience and all he
- 9:48Speaker 1: showed a litany of strength when he was defending these guys.
- 9:52Speaker 1: That's what was beautiful about it. He played three different guys,
- 9:55Speaker 1: three different ways and had success against all of them.
- 9:58Speaker 1: He pressed Cooper Cup on what looked like a little
- 10:01Speaker 1: basic route PBu he played off versus j Andsn, who's
- 10:08Speaker 1: a phenomenal route runner offensive player of the Year. He
- 10:11Speaker 1: doubled him up. He didn't fall forward, stayed in his
- 10:13Speaker 1: hip pocket, drove the ball probably should have intercepted it.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Then you go to the ship heat play where he
- 10:20Speaker 1: made a split second decision that was that could have
- 10:23Speaker 1: been a difference in that game between them winning and
- 10:27Speaker 1: losing the Super Bowl. That played potentially being a touchdown
- 10:31Speaker 1: at full speed. He made a decision to go up
- 10:34Speaker 1: and at that point, you have no more jurisdiction over anything. Mitchell,
- 10:37Speaker 1: You're you're guessing this is this is all guess work,
- 10:40Speaker 1: because the trajectorated ball is already coming down. And what
- 10:43Speaker 1: you've decided is this is what I have to do
- 10:45Speaker 1: in this situation to make this play. And if he
- 10:48Speaker 1: misses it, it's over it because you can't recover balls
- 10:51Speaker 1: in his hand. He skates off, it's a touchdown. It
- 10:54Speaker 1: ended up being an incredible play for him, and I
- 10:57Speaker 1: always like to tip my head off to performances like that.
- 11:00Speaker 1: His team may have lost, but if they would have won,
- 11:03Speaker 1: he would have had a great case to be the
- 11:06Speaker 1: MVP for that team because of how he played and
- 11:09Speaker 1: the stops he made. I think he saved two potential
- 11:11Speaker 1: touchdowns in that game and allowed the New England Patriots
- 11:16Speaker 1: to stay in that game for a good majority of it.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I mean they held him to nine points at halftime.
- 11:21Speaker 1: That square could have easily ballooned early on in that game.
- 11:25Speaker 1: But let's go back to Sam darnal and and just
- 11:30Speaker 1: doing what's necessary.
- 11:32Speaker 2: They didn't.
- 11:33Speaker 1: He didn't get impatient, he didn't do anything where that
- 11:37Speaker 1: you expect. You know, I think everybody expects him to
- 11:39Speaker 1: turn back into a pumpkin. That's been the rhetoric. K
- 11:41Speaker 1: he's gonna see ghosts. Eventually, he's gonna turn back into
- 11:44Speaker 1: the old Sam Donald. No he's not, No, he's not.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Sometimes you have that that light bulb movement. Sometimes you
- 11:51Speaker 1: have that epiphany where you figure things out. Sometimes it
- 11:55Speaker 1: happens immediately. Sometimes for some guys, it happens a little
- 11:59Speaker 1: later on. And it seemed like it happened for Sam
- 12:01Speaker 1: Donald when he got to Minnesota. And then he had
- 12:06Speaker 1: a little hiccup in the playoffs. You know, he got
- 12:08Speaker 1: some pressure, was sacked nine times by the Rams, didn't
- 12:11Speaker 1: play well to the point where the Minnesota Vikings started
- 12:14Speaker 1: to be a good idea to move off of him
- 12:16Speaker 1: after a fourteen win season and go with JJ McCarthy again,
- 12:20Speaker 1: a move that I think sets their franchise back ten years.
- 12:23Speaker 1: But Minnesota fans wanted to argue with me all season
- 12:26Speaker 1: long about how I was wrong and they were right.
- 12:29Speaker 1: But seems like the ownership group thinks I was right too.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Seems like Kevin O'Connell thinks I was right too. It
- 12:35Speaker 1: seems like a lot of people thought I was right
- 12:37Speaker 1: that actually no football, and not the fans that are
- 12:39Speaker 1: just trying to make themselves feel better about a quarterback
- 12:43Speaker 1: that just isn't the guy.
- 12:44Speaker 2: You know. Maybe they can get mac Jones, Maybe they
- 12:46Speaker 2: can get.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Somebody else to go into that spot to sustain them
- 12:50Speaker 1: until they can get another franchise quarterback. Maybe Mac Jones
- 12:52Speaker 1: is the answer. But that's the story for a different day.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I think Sam Donald has elevated himself. He's changed in
- 13:00Speaker 1: arrative about himself. It's a beautiful conversation. A first quarterback
- 13:03Speaker 1: in the twenty eighteen class to get a Super Bowl
- 13:05Speaker 1: in a class that has three MVP trophies to two
- 13:09Speaker 1: different guys already to their names. They haven't made it
- 13:12Speaker 1: past that the championship games, the AFC Championship, either one
- 13:16Speaker 1: of them, both of them have had chances. Lamar Jackson
- 13:19Speaker 1: had a chance with Mike McDonald as his defensive coordinator.
- 13:23Speaker 1: So I think Baltimore was a number one defense that year,
- 13:27Speaker 1: wrecking Shot. They had a great game against Brod Purdy
- 13:30Speaker 1: that season. I want to say he was in the
- 13:32Speaker 1: MVP race and I was, you know, jump standing on
- 13:35Speaker 1: the fence for him. He throws five interceptions I believe
- 13:38Speaker 1: against against the Mike McDonald coached Baltimore Ravens defense in
- 13:43Speaker 1: Levi Stadium in Santa Clayer. And then of course they
- 13:47Speaker 1: get to the playoffs and things don't work out that way.
- 13:49Speaker 1: They don't run the ball like the Seattle Seahawks doing
- 13:52Speaker 1: this Super Bowl and they find a way to lose.
- 13:55Speaker 1: You cannot take anything away from Sam Darnold and what
- 13:57Speaker 1: he's done this playoff run to help this team get here.
- 14:00Speaker 1: You've gone through Division rivals, arguably the second best team
- 14:04Speaker 1: in the National Football League in the Rams, and some
- 14:06Speaker 1: all season long we're calling them the best team in
- 14:09Speaker 1: the National Football League. So you can't make the argument
- 14:13Speaker 1: that he's gone through some easy schedule, some cake schedule.
- 14:16Speaker 1: He didn't have to perform. He had to throw for
- 14:18Speaker 1: three hundred yards against the Rams, a defense that he
- 14:20Speaker 1: struggled with both with the Minnesota Vikings in with the
- 14:23Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks. But when it mattered the most, he played
- 14:27Speaker 1: at a high enough level to get his team to
- 14:29Speaker 1: the Super Bowl and win that game. This team isn't
- 14:33Speaker 1: going anywhere, and I can't wait to see how they
- 14:35Speaker 1: continue to evolve. They're gonna get guys healthier, They're gonna
- 14:38Speaker 1: get more weapons on offense. I don't think they're gonna
- 14:40Speaker 1: let Canaan out of that building. Obviously, he's a free agent.
- 14:43Speaker 1: They're gonna do what they need to do to keep him.
- 14:46Speaker 1: The franchise tag for running back isn't restrictive, and I
- 14:50Speaker 1: think that's something that a weapon that they will use
- 14:52Speaker 1: if they can't figure out the negotiations.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Richard, This Sam Darnold story is a wild one who
- 14:58Speaker 3: was once viewed a bust right a top three pick
- 15:01Speaker 3: by the Jets, now looks like he warranted that top
- 15:05Speaker 3: three selection, And like you said, for him to be
- 15:07Speaker 3: the first quarterback out of that draft class to hoist
- 15:10Speaker 3: the Lombardi Trophy is unbelievable. The Seahawks are the first
- 15:14Speaker 3: Super Bowl champion to go their entire postseason without committing
- 15:18Speaker 3: a turnover for a quarterback. And Sam Darnold, who his
- 15:21Speaker 3: top three in the league in picks coming into this, Like,
- 15:24Speaker 3: how important was that to his maturation? To his development? Richard?
- 15:27Speaker 3: I mean, this guy, like you said last year, he's
- 15:30Speaker 3: playing one of the toughest divisions in the NFC North
- 15:33Speaker 3: this year is playing in arguably probably easily the hardest
- 15:36Speaker 3: division in the NFC West. And to do that and
- 15:39Speaker 3: have that experience with top tier competition, to go into
- 15:42Speaker 3: the playoffs and not commit one turnover, How wild is that?
- 15:47Speaker 3: In your eyes?
- 15:49Speaker 1: I don't I can't even describe how incredible that is.
- 15:52Speaker 1: That's that to be the first team in the history
- 15:54Speaker 1: of the National Football League to turn the ball over
- 15:57Speaker 1: at all during the entire playoffs. It's hard to really
- 16:02Speaker 1: to really express how difficult that is because there's so
- 16:05Speaker 1: many things that are out of your control. So many
- 16:07Speaker 1: times the quarterback's arm gets hit and the ball gets
- 16:09Speaker 1: tipped up in the air, and you know, who knows
- 16:12Speaker 1: what can happen, and you know things that just can happen.
- 16:17Speaker 1: That changed that stat immediately, even for really good teams.
- 16:20Speaker 1: And so for him to have twenty turnovers this season
- 16:23Speaker 1: and then to have zero in the playoffs, that's what
- 16:26Speaker 1: they needed. That's what they had to have to be
- 16:28Speaker 1: Super Bowl champions. And that's what he delivered again, this
- 16:32Speaker 1: narrative about the elite quarterbacks and the top quarterbacks in
- 16:35Speaker 1: the top five and who's this. It's Patrick Mahomes and
- 16:40Speaker 1: everybody who's not Patrick Mahomes honestly, and I don't care
- 16:44Speaker 1: about arm talent. I don't care about about how athletic
- 16:47Speaker 1: these guys are. I care about winning in Super Bowls.
- 16:51Speaker 1: And the only guys who have super Bowls are are
- 16:54Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, now Sam Darnold, Aaron Rodgers if
- 17:01Speaker 1: he keeps playing, you know what I mean. There's only
- 17:03Speaker 1: so many quarterbacks that are still playing today that have
- 17:06Speaker 1: Super Bowls under their belt in the last couple of years.
- 17:09Speaker 1: It's Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Sam Donald. It's not
- 17:16Speaker 1: Josh Allen, who had every opportunity this year to be
- 17:20Speaker 1: in that conversation, every opportunity to take his team to
- 17:26Speaker 1: the big game. And not to say that it was
- 17:28Speaker 1: on him necessarily, but he didn't play his best game.
- 17:31Speaker 2: And when you're.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Held to that standard and to that level, you have
- 17:36Speaker 1: to play your best in those games to help your
- 17:40Speaker 1: team get to a championship to be considered one of
- 17:42Speaker 1: those guys. And we keep putting these guys in these
- 17:44Speaker 1: conversations they don't deserve to be in because their play
- 17:47Speaker 1: in their their resume doesn't have trophies on it. Their
- 17:51Speaker 1: shelf doesn't have trophies on it. So why are we
- 17:53Speaker 1: giving them this credit that they have trophies because they're
- 17:56Speaker 1: they're uberly talented, they have great regular seasons. Lamar has
- 17:59Speaker 1: had fun nominal regular season, could have easily had three MVPs.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Doesn't have a trophy. Josh Allen has had phenomenal.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Seasons, could have had an MVP of the Year before
- 18:09Speaker 1: he actually won it, I think, but he won one.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Doesn't have trophies, uh, Josh Joe Burrow, Joe Burrow one
- 18:19Speaker 1: of the most talented, ar talented and the National Football
- 18:21Speaker 1: League took the Bengals, you know, from obscurity to a
- 18:25Speaker 1: Super Bowl against the Rams, and and wasn't Aaron Donald
- 18:28Speaker 1: sack away from from potentially winning that game. But again,
- 18:31Speaker 1: at the end of the day, doesn't have a trophy.
- 18:33Speaker 1: So when we have these conversations, at some point, the
- 18:36Speaker 1: trophy has to matter. Success has to matter. Being able
- 18:39Speaker 1: to play your best when your best is required has
- 18:42Speaker 1: to matter. And I think that's the conversations we're going
- 18:45Speaker 1: to start to have. I'm tired of hearing about how
- 18:47Speaker 1: talented Herbert and and and and Trevor Lawrence and and
- 18:51Speaker 1: all these and Josh Allen and and Lamar and how how.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Great they are because they are great. But maybe if we're.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Wing an analysis of the big picture, the bigger picture,
- 19:04Speaker 1: we need to take the full scope to rank these guys.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Like at the end of the day, if we're not
- 19:09Speaker 1: taking the full scope, then what are we ranking? Because
- 19:14Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes has played his best when his best route
- 19:16Speaker 1: is required, has it happened every single time? No, but
- 19:19Speaker 1: he's won multiple Super Bowls, He's won multiple Super Bowl MVPs.
- 19:22Speaker 1: He's won multiple MVPs. Like his resume speaks for itself.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Postseason success matters, And yes, it's win or wins a
- 19:30Speaker 1: quarterback stat. I don't think they should be, but that's
- 19:33Speaker 1: the way a lot of people compute it. And so
- 19:35Speaker 1: if they're a quarterback stat, then the losses our quarterback
- 19:38Speaker 1: stat too, whether whether it's fair or not. If you
- 19:40Speaker 1: take it one way, you got to take it the
- 19:41Speaker 1: other way too. So without them having that success, you
- 19:45Speaker 1: have to give Sam Darnold his credit. He's taken two
- 19:48Speaker 1: teams different franchises to fourteen wins in the National Football
- 19:53Speaker 1: League back to back years.
- 19:55Speaker 2: That has to.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Matter, and then he made up for the things he
- 19:59Speaker 1: was unable to achieve the year before. He came up short,
- 20:02Speaker 1: his team came up short in Minnesota. I have yet
- 20:06Speaker 1: to hear him make an excuse to blame anybody, to
- 20:10Speaker 1: say anything other than I could have been better, I
- 20:12Speaker 1: let my teammates down, and I'll be better next time.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Well, this was the next time, Mitchell. This playoff run
- 20:18Speaker 2: was the next time. And what did he do? He
- 20:20Speaker 2: played better for an entirely different city, entirely different franchise,
- 20:25Speaker 2: and didn't have a bad word to say about anybody
- 20:27Speaker 2: that any place he was before.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I love that and I love that, and I think
- 20:33Speaker 1: he's gonna get everything he deserves.
- 20:35Speaker 2: He's getting. Hopefully he gets the praise he deserves.
- 20:37Speaker 1: He was a number three pick in the draft, and
- 20:39Speaker 1: when you pick a guy number three in the draft,
- 20:41Speaker 1: you expect them to one day hold that Lombardi Trophy up.
- 20:45Speaker 2: And he's one of the few that have.
- 20:49Speaker 3: It's rare that you find a guy who's drafted third
- 20:51Speaker 3: overall that has a chip on his shoulder. But I'm
- 20:53Speaker 3: sure Sam Darnold does. With everything that's been talked about
- 20:56Speaker 3: him in the media and the way he doesn't, like
- 20:58Speaker 3: you said, Richard, he doesn't really let it define him whatsoever.
- 21:02Speaker 3: He's letting his play do the talking now and he's
- 21:04Speaker 3: turned in. I don't even want to call him a
- 21:06Speaker 3: game manager because at one point I said, you know, hey,
- 21:08Speaker 3: he just needs to be a good game manager and
- 21:10Speaker 3: let the defense do their thing. Richard, they were taking
- 21:13Speaker 3: shots downfield. I mean he was getting Cooper Cup involved,
- 21:16Speaker 3: AJ Barner involved. These weren't dinking dunk you know, let's
- 21:20Speaker 3: not turn the ball over plays like He's setting up
- 21:23Speaker 3: the ability for K nine to run by taking these
- 21:26Speaker 3: deep shots and holding the defense accountable. Speaking of the
- 21:30Speaker 3: running game a little bit, you talked about how the
- 21:32Speaker 3: Seahawks are not gonna let Kenneth Walker out of the building.
- 21:35Speaker 3: If you're John Schneider, how important was it the run
- 21:38Speaker 3: game in this game, because it seems like it really
- 21:41Speaker 3: defined their offense and allowed Sam Darnold to play freely
- 21:44Speaker 3: out there as well.
- 21:45Speaker 1: The run game was the most important part of this game,
- 21:48Speaker 1: and I think that set the tempo, that set the pace,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and that set the tone. Kenneth Walker set the tone.
- 21:53Speaker 1: A majority of their explosives came from this run game,
- 21:57Speaker 1: and their biggest play of the night got called back
- 21:59Speaker 1: because of a Aalen Sundale hold on on.
- 22:05Speaker 2: The linebacker fourteen plane.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Spelaine on the holding call on splane, But that would
- 22:13Speaker 1: have been the swans On. That would have been the
- 22:14Speaker 1: replayed over and over and over because of how Kenneth Walker,
- 22:18Speaker 1: you know, set up his blocks popped it out. I
- 22:22Speaker 1: think that would have ended the debate about who was
- 22:24Speaker 1: the MVP. Obviously people were saying Jason Myers deserved consideration,
- 22:29Speaker 1: and I thought that was true too. He set the record,
- 22:31Speaker 1: he broke the record for field goals.
- 22:32Speaker 2: In the game.
- 22:33Speaker 1: You know, he did his part, but the level of
- 22:36Speaker 1: difficulty was it there? How many plays is he playing
- 22:39Speaker 1: during the game. Those things matter when you talk about
- 22:41Speaker 1: Super Bowl MVP. Maybe there should be an award for
- 22:43Speaker 1: special teams because I think the punter Dixon had an
- 22:47Speaker 1: incredible game. He was a weapon in this game. Pinned
- 22:51Speaker 1: them inside the five yard line multiple times. I think
- 22:55Speaker 1: he averaged forty almost forty eight yards of punt. It
- 22:58Speaker 1: was just it was magnificent. And that just goes to
- 23:01Speaker 1: how complete the Seattle Seahawks team is from top to
- 23:05Speaker 1: bottle bottom defensively, offensively, every man mattered in this game,
- 23:10Speaker 1: and every phase matters, and you could see the energy
- 23:14Speaker 1: and attention of detail that they put into every phase
- 23:17Speaker 1: of this team. And that's why they have the ultimate
- 23:19Speaker 1: success of winning a Super Bowl and making it look easy.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Everybody said the game against the Rams, the NFC Championship
- 23:26Speaker 1: was the super Bowl, and that's the way it looked.
- 23:28Speaker 1: That's the way it looked. After watching this game, you know,
- 23:30Speaker 1: people were like, Oh, this is so boring. It was
- 23:33Speaker 1: not boring. It wasn't a boring game. It was a
- 23:35Speaker 1: team that was well coached and uberly prepared for this moment,
- 23:40Speaker 1: playing against the team that was less prepared, playing against
- 23:44Speaker 1: a team that was not ready for the.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Issues that they were going to have to deal with.
- 23:50Speaker 1: And I don't like that narrative because it motivates the
- 23:54Speaker 1: league to create more rules and things to help these
- 23:57Speaker 1: offenses have suc success that they don't deserve, Like.
- 24:03Speaker 2: This game is about.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Running and hitting and being physical, being detailed, like doing
- 24:07Speaker 1: your job effectively. And every time they make another rule
- 24:11Speaker 1: to handicap the defense and pump up the offense like
- 24:14Speaker 1: you cheap in the game. And so don't I don't
- 24:17Speaker 1: like fans saying, oh, Man, it wasn't enough points, and
- 24:20Speaker 1: we didn't see touchdowns.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And big plays. You didn't see sloppy defense.
- 24:23Speaker 1: You've seen two well coached defenses and offenses that were
- 24:26Speaker 1: trying to manipulate them and trying to dictate the pace
- 24:29Speaker 1: that could not. The plays that were there were made.
- 24:31Speaker 1: The players that were not there were not gonna be made.
- 24:33Speaker 1: This New England Patriots offense has not been anything special
- 24:36Speaker 1: during these playoffs. I didn't expect them to be anything
- 24:39Speaker 1: special this week. I thought they should have lost multiple times.
- 24:44Speaker 1: They deserved to lose multiple times, and that defense kept
- 24:47Speaker 1: them in a game. You talked about the Houston Texans game.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I mean, if CJ. Stroud doesn't have those turnovers, I
- 24:55Speaker 1: don't think they I don't think they're in that game.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I don't think their offense did anything to say, man,
- 25:01Speaker 1: they really got the Houston Texans defense pig because they didn't.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I don't think they did anything really extraordinary against the Chargers.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I thought the Chargers defense beat him up. That's why
- 25:11Speaker 1: Drake may has been sacked, was sacked fifteen times in
- 25:13Speaker 1: those three games, and the Seattle Seahawks exposed that. Will
- 25:17Speaker 1: Campbell he was set. I don't know, because I don't
- 25:19Speaker 1: know offensive line talk, but from what I'm understanding, he
- 25:24Speaker 1: wasn't getting his feet said, he wasn't shooting his hands
- 25:26Speaker 1: early enough, and that led to him getting beat multiple times.
- 25:30Speaker 1: But he's been beat like a drum this entire playoff run.
- 25:33Speaker 1: When your first round pick, top four pick is a
- 25:36Speaker 1: fish out there, and that's the way they see him
- 25:38Speaker 1: on tape. Regardless of how you feel it, feel about it.
- 25:42Speaker 1: It's a chess game, and if one of the pieces
- 25:44Speaker 1: is consistently getting taken, it's not about personnel and personal
- 25:48Speaker 1: attacks or anything like that. When the Seattle Seahawks prepared
- 25:51Speaker 1: for this game, they saw weakness and they exploited. They
- 25:53Speaker 1: isolated him versus multiple defenders. They thought Derek Hall's power
- 25:57Speaker 1: could overwhelm him.
- 25:58Speaker 2: It did.
- 25:59Speaker 1: They thought boy Fay's speed, They thought DeMarcus Lawrence's speed
- 26:03Speaker 1: and power.
- 26:03Speaker 2: They thought these.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Things would be an issue for that young man. And
- 26:07Speaker 1: then even the left guard. You got a rookie left
- 26:10Speaker 1: side of your offensive line. I think they gave up
- 26:14Speaker 1: nine of the nineteen pressures that the Patriots gave up,
- 26:20Speaker 1: and they gave up three sacks. Because it's youth, you know,
- 26:23Speaker 1: will they get better, Will they get stronger, Will they
- 26:25Speaker 1: understand the game more?
- 26:26Speaker 2: No question about it.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Could they be all pros, all world players in the future,
- 26:30Speaker 1: No question about it. But in this game, it's very
- 26:33Speaker 1: unfigured for unforgiving. If you feel a weakness, you see
- 26:38Speaker 1: a weakness, that's where you go. And it's not about
- 26:41Speaker 1: making anybody feel good or feel bad. It's about winning
- 26:43Speaker 1: the game. And that's what the Seattle Seahawks did consistently.
- 26:46Speaker 1: That's what this defense did consistently. They prepared really well,
- 26:50Speaker 1: and they showed up in the biggest moment in the
- 26:53Speaker 1: biggest ways. And that's Witherspoon, that's Julian Love, played a
- 26:57Speaker 1: great game. Kobe Bryant, big hits, all over the place,
- 26:59Speaker 1: Ernest Jones all over the place Byron Murphy, Leonard Williams.
- 27:03Speaker 1: The list goes on. They played the classics, they played
- 27:06Speaker 1: the hits, and they played them.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Over and over and over like a great nineties club.
- 27:12Speaker 3: They sure dead, Richard.

- 28:39Speaker 3: This year, I'm focusing on a small shift that makes
- 28:42Speaker 3: a huge difference effortless presence. It sounds counterintuitive, but for
- 28:47Speaker 3: me that means planning ahead so I can truly live
- 28:49Speaker 3: in the moment, especially when enjoying a few drinks. My
- 28:53Speaker 3: simple trick for staying balanced is taking z biotics pre
- 28:57Speaker 3: alcohol before I start. Z Biotics pre alcol All probiotic
- 29:01Speaker 3: drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic. It was
- 29:05Speaker 3: invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Here's how it works. When you drink, alcohol gets converted
- 29:13Speaker 3: into toxic byproduct in your gut. It's a build up
- 29:16Speaker 3: of this byproduct, not dehydration that's to blame for rough
- 29:20Speaker 3: days after drinking. Pre alcohol producing is an enzyme to
- 29:24Speaker 3: break this byproduct down. Just remember to make pre alcohol
- 29:28Speaker 3: your first drink of the night. Drink responsibly and you'll
- 29:31Speaker 3: fill your best tomorrow. Every time I have pre alcohol
- 29:34Speaker 3: before drinks, I notice the difference the next day. Even
- 29:37Speaker 3: after a night out, I can confidently plan on going
- 29:40Speaker 3: to the gym to get a morning workout in without
- 29:42Speaker 3: even warring. Ready to try it, go to zbiotics dot

- 31:54Speaker 3: You know what, there was so many bright spots defensively
- 31:59Speaker 3: who stood out to you the I mean, I know
- 32:01Speaker 3: Nick Ammon Warriors had this incredible run this playoffs, but
- 32:04Speaker 3: Devin Witherspoon Man, I mean the way he came off
- 32:06Speaker 3: that edge for the sack, the way he was playing
- 32:08Speaker 3: so aggressive. You see why they valued him so high
- 32:11Speaker 3: in that draft to take him well the fifth overall. Right,
- 32:14Speaker 3: So that to take him top five and see something
- 32:17Speaker 3: in a product out of Illinois, Richard, Who did you
- 32:20Speaker 3: like most offensively? Who stood out the most to you?
- 32:22Speaker 1: And that's impossible to say, because yes, I love Devin Witherspoon.
- 32:26Speaker 1: I mean he plays like a maniac every game. He
- 32:28Speaker 1: plays with a relentless effort and attitude. Really plays way
- 32:32Speaker 1: bigger than his weight in size, says, and he does
- 32:36Speaker 1: it consistently. But if you look at Derek Hale and
- 32:40Speaker 1: the impact he had in this game huge, If you
- 32:42Speaker 1: looked at Leonard Williams, even if the stats weren't there,
- 32:44Speaker 1: the impact was huge. Byron Murphy impact was huge in
- 32:48Speaker 1: the back end. You look at Josh Job in the
- 32:51Speaker 1: game he had just quietly Josh Job has had an
- 32:54Speaker 1: incredible season as quietly, quietly, quietly quiet of a great
- 32:59Speaker 1: season as I've seen in this league. And if he
- 33:02Speaker 1: was a free agent, we'd be talking about a lot
- 33:04Speaker 1: of money being paid to him and his family. So
- 33:08Speaker 1: I think the Seahawks are gonna do something to extend him.
- 33:10Speaker 1: He's very important to what they do defensively. Again, Tarik
- 33:13Speaker 1: Wooland played a played a really good game, had the
- 33:15Speaker 1: win win play against MATC Collins where I think the
- 33:18Speaker 1: entire defense fell asleep. They got him on the same
- 33:20Speaker 1: play that the Rams got him on the week before.
- 33:24Speaker 1: They saw he saw number two going across, which which
- 33:27Speaker 1: means hey to across one end and all the all
- 33:32Speaker 1: the receiver does is stutter, you know, show that he's
- 33:35Speaker 1: gonna break to the dig you break. As soon as
- 33:38Speaker 1: you break, he goes up and they had a touchdown.
- 33:40Speaker 1: That's what happens against Pooka in the court. That's what
- 33:42Speaker 1: happened in this game. But again, he played a good game.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Nick Emmin Warrior, I think the entire defense could have
- 33:47Speaker 1: got an MVP. They could have gave the m v
- 33:49Speaker 1: P Trophy to their entire defense, and and nobody would
- 33:52Speaker 1: have really better than an eyelash at that because of
- 33:54Speaker 1: how impactful all of them were. And I think that's
- 33:56Speaker 1: the reason none of them got it, because you couldn't
- 33:59Speaker 1: figure out who to get to.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Quite literally, you have to give it to the entire defense. Richard,
- 34:05Speaker 3: we got to talk a little bit about the Patriots,
- 34:07Speaker 3: you know, we talked quite a bit throughout this season
- 34:10Speaker 3: about how much of a cakewalk their schedule was, and
- 34:14Speaker 3: then they get to the playoffs and they play a
- 34:17Speaker 3: beat up Chargers team. They were very fortunate and obviously
- 34:21Speaker 3: I don't want to say it wasn't to their credit,
- 34:23Speaker 3: but obviously c J. Stroud had a horrendous showing. And
- 34:26Speaker 3: then ultimately they play the Broncos without bone Nicks. What
- 34:31Speaker 3: does this say about the AFC? Is this just a
- 34:33Speaker 3: down year for the AFC or the Seattle Seahawks just
- 34:37Speaker 3: that dominant.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Well, it's not a down year. I mean I yes, yes,
- 34:41Speaker 1: it's down year. Let's not go crazy about that. Because
- 34:45Speaker 1: if you walk into the playoffs without Patrick Mahomes there,
- 34:48Speaker 1: without Lamar Jackson, which who could have easily made the
- 34:52Speaker 1: playoffs with. You know, the miskick changed all everybody's trajectory
- 34:58Speaker 1: in that game. But without those guys in the playoffs
- 35:03Speaker 1: for that side, they're so top heavy, so quarterback centric.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Pretty much anybody you put out there after that was
- 35:10Speaker 1: going to struggle with this defense. Now, the Denver Broncos
- 35:15Speaker 1: had a defense that they felt really good about vance
- 35:17Speaker 1: Joseph in his scheme. They've done a really good job
- 35:20Speaker 1: all season long. I thought that would have made a
- 35:22Speaker 1: really fun defensive game had they made it. Unfortunately, bo
- 35:25Speaker 1: Knicks get gets injured. I think second to third last
- 35:28Speaker 1: play of the game. Otherwise that would have been the
- 35:31Speaker 1: Super Bowl rematch that everybody was looking for to to
- 35:35Speaker 1: really good defenses going at it. We saw the way
- 35:37Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks battled against the Houston Texans in that
- 35:41Speaker 1: ferocious defense. They found a way to make that a
- 35:44Speaker 1: doll fight in Seattle. So that would have been a
- 35:45Speaker 1: good matchup. But unfortunately it didn't work out that way.
- 35:49Speaker 1: So you don't want to say anything's luck, because it's not.
- 35:51Speaker 1: They won those games. They didn't tell Sean Payton not
- 35:55Speaker 1: to kick the field goal, they didn't do all that.
- 35:56Speaker 1: They won the game that was in front of them,
- 35:58Speaker 1: so they earned their way to be there. I did
- 36:01Speaker 1: not think anybody on the AFC side would be able
- 36:04Speaker 1: to beat the Rams or the Seahawks, if I'm being honest,
- 36:06Speaker 1: regardless of who it was in the playoff field that
- 36:10Speaker 1: that was that made it this year.
- 36:13Speaker 2: So I don't, I don't. It's it's just one of
- 36:15Speaker 2: those years.
- 36:16Speaker 1: You know, there are other years where you look up
- 36:17Speaker 1: and the Kansas City Chiefs looked like the class of
- 36:19Speaker 1: the the NFL, and you look like, hey, who on
- 36:23Speaker 1: the NFC side is gonna gonna be able to battle
- 36:25Speaker 1: with them, and you know, use this the Niners or
- 36:27Speaker 1: the Eagles, and and then it's a dog fight. And
- 36:29Speaker 1: Patrick Mahons may pill it out, he may not. But
- 36:33Speaker 1: without him in it, the AFC just didn't seem as formidable.
- 36:36Speaker 1: And I'm not saying this game was was wasn't ever
- 36:40Speaker 1: gonna be close, but I called it being a two
- 36:42Speaker 1: touchdown game, and it was a two touchdown guy.
- 36:45Speaker 2: It did. It's sure was.
- 36:47Speaker 3: And their quarterback, Drake May, I mean, listen, he was
- 36:50Speaker 3: in this MVP conversation, whether you thought he deserved to
- 36:53Speaker 3: be or not, and it became a lot closer of
- 36:55Speaker 3: a race for that m VP than I think a
- 36:57Speaker 3: lot of folks anticipated. Matthews effort narrowly want it. In fact,
- 37:02Speaker 3: he received twenty four first place votes to Drake May's
- 37:05Speaker 3: twenty three. Richard, Drake May struggled this game. I think
- 37:10Speaker 3: the entire New England Patriot offense struggled this game. But
- 37:14Speaker 3: obviously with loss comes opportunity to grow. What do you
- 37:18Speaker 3: think that Drake May needs to focus on most in
- 37:20Speaker 3: order to take that next step and be an MVP
- 37:23Speaker 3: in this league.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Well, it's it's a lot of things, and it's not
- 37:26Speaker 1: all on Drake may not all the things are in
- 37:28Speaker 1: his control. They need to They need a more talented team.
- 37:32Speaker 1: He needs more protection. You can't you can't get sacked.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I think he was sacked twenty two times in these playoffs,
- 37:38Speaker 1: you know, twenty two times, and his shoulder was hurt.
- 37:43Speaker 1: And you can't play that that way and expect to
- 37:48Speaker 1: have a ton of success. You got to protect him.
- 37:50Speaker 1: He has to do a better job getting the football
- 37:51Speaker 1: out quickly. But Josh McDaniel has to give him some
- 37:55Speaker 1: hot reads. They have to give him answers when when
- 37:58Speaker 1: there's blitz is coming and you got deep developing routes
- 38:01Speaker 1: and nobody's hot, nobody's looking when it's time for him
- 38:04Speaker 1: to win, the pressures on the way and he needs
- 38:06Speaker 1: an outlet, you have to give him an outlet.
- 38:08Speaker 2: So you have to set him up for success.
- 38:10Speaker 1: And I think that's an effort that includes the entire
- 38:14Speaker 1: coaching staff to say, hey, we got to be able
- 38:16Speaker 1: to recognize these these pressures, recognize who we're playing against,
- 38:20Speaker 1: and give him answers that he can get to really
- 38:23Speaker 1: quickly if pressure gets home. And I think that's a
- 38:26Speaker 1: big part of it. I think getting him more talent
- 38:28Speaker 1: at receiver. I like Kayshawan Boody, I like Douglas. Obviously
- 38:32Speaker 1: Diggs is a veteran who does it well, but I
- 38:34Speaker 1: think they need to continue to invest in that position.
- 38:37Speaker 1: I don't mccollins is the one who makes the big
- 38:40Speaker 1: play in the Super Bowl, Like he's the one who
- 38:42Speaker 1: scores a touchdown for you to kind of get going.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I don't think that's what they expected when they signed him.
- 38:49Speaker 1: You need a big time receiver that can go get it.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Do they make a trade for AJ Brown or a
- 38:54Speaker 1: receiver like that, who's who's a real, bona fide number
- 38:57Speaker 1: one receiver. I think that's what's gonna have to happen.
- 39:00Speaker 1: You're gonna have to see some growth from Trevion Henderson.
- 39:03Speaker 1: His his opportunities were limited because of how bad he
- 39:07Speaker 1: was in the past game. He couldn't pass protect. They
- 39:09Speaker 1: couldn't trust him in pass protection, so you can't be
- 39:12Speaker 1: out there. So with mindre Stevenson, who isn't as good
- 39:16Speaker 1: and as explosive as Travion Hendrickson in a past game,
- 39:20Speaker 1: has to be out there because he's more reliable in
- 39:23Speaker 1: past blocking. They know he's gonna pick up the right guy.
- 39:25Speaker 1: He's gonna be where he's supposed to be and be
- 39:27Speaker 1: and not be a liability out there. So that's some
- 39:31Speaker 1: on the personnel and the players just getting better at
- 39:33Speaker 1: their job. But I think you have to surround him
- 39:36Speaker 1: with more talent. I didn't think it was a close
- 39:39Speaker 1: race for the for the MVP at all, And I
- 39:43Speaker 1: think that's what I hate about the voting now, is
- 39:47Speaker 1: their justification for things is like, hey, this guy's team
- 39:50Speaker 1: is worse and and they're doing better than you expect
- 39:54Speaker 1: him to, so he's the MVP. Like that's not that's
- 39:56Speaker 1: not That's not it for me. Who's playing better? And
- 40:00Speaker 1: if and this goes both ways, if Drake May had
- 40:03Speaker 1: had thrown for what was it, forty forty six touchdowns
- 40:07Speaker 1: and had eight interceptions and we beat screaming the same way,
- 40:10Speaker 1: that Drake May should be the MVP.
- 40:12Speaker 2: But you're not gonna say a guy with.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Double digit less touch passing touchdowns is better than the
- 40:18Speaker 1: other guy. I'm sorry. That's not the world we live in.
- 40:21Speaker 1: And I don't even like the discussion, like, well, you
- 40:24Speaker 1: don't understand the full scope.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Yes I do.
- 40:27Speaker 1: I understand that I watched Matthew Stafford playing the most
- 40:32Speaker 1: competitive division in the National Football League and put up
- 40:35Speaker 1: those numbers. I watched him play against this same Seattle
- 40:39Speaker 1: Seahawks defense that Drake May struggled royally with during the
- 40:43Speaker 1: regular season and throw for four to seventy four seventy
- 40:46Speaker 1: and five touchdowns like that. That was the end of
- 40:49Speaker 1: it right there. That should have ended. It ended the conversation.
- 40:52Speaker 1: I did not see a signature performance like that from
- 40:56Speaker 1: Drake May against a really top defense, and that is
- 40:59Speaker 1: that his fault that they didn't go against one of
- 41:01Speaker 1: the great defenses.
- 41:03Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 41:04Speaker 1: But if you're if you're not gonna put up those
- 41:07Speaker 1: kind of points. And everybody points to Matthew Stafford's one
- 41:13Speaker 1: yard touchdowns or whatever the case may be. I think
- 41:15Speaker 1: he had a double digit of those with connecting with
- 41:19Speaker 1: uh Davante Davonte Davante Adams. But at the end of
- 41:24Speaker 1: the day, stats or stats, maybe stats are stats. Numbers
- 41:28Speaker 1: are numbers, and he's out there playing like this in
- 41:31Speaker 1: the biggest games. They lost that game to the Seattle
- 41:33Speaker 1: Seahawks that he threw and it wasn't garbage time they
- 41:35Speaker 1: were battling. It's an overtime game. He scored in overtime,
- 41:38Speaker 1: he gave his team a chance. They scored, got the
- 41:40Speaker 1: pat The Seahawks just went for two and got it.
- 41:42Speaker 1: The only reason he loses that game is because he
- 41:44Speaker 1: doesn't have another chance. He left. He left the field
- 41:47Speaker 1: with the league, and so as a quarterback, he did
- 41:51Speaker 1: everything you could to put your team in position. Yes,
- 41:54Speaker 1: he has pooping, the cool and and a great team
- 41:56Speaker 1: around him, but that's what happens. Rarely are you gonna
- 42:00Speaker 1: have a great offense without great players around you. Rarely
- 42:03Speaker 1: are you gonna see MVPs without Pro bowlers on their team.
- 42:06Speaker 1: It's rare, and sure it happens, but it's only happening
- 42:10Speaker 1: more nowadays because there's some weird fixation with with saying, hey, man,
- 42:16Speaker 1: these guys it's a feel good story. Like, man, they
- 42:19Speaker 1: shouldn't be here, like just a National Football League guys,
- 42:22Speaker 1: like numbers have to matter. If numbers don't matter, then
- 42:25Speaker 1: let's stop. Let's stop having it and just give it
- 42:27Speaker 1: to whoever you feel good about. You know, Hey, who's
- 42:30Speaker 1: the who's the most unlikely hero this year? That's the MVP.
- 42:33Speaker 1: That's not how it works, and that's not how it
- 42:35Speaker 1: worked before. And so if they would have not gave
- 42:38Speaker 1: it to Stafford with forty six touchdowns to eight interceptions.
- 42:43Speaker 1: I mean that this probably would have been the last
- 42:45Speaker 1: time I had any respect for this award. This probably
- 42:48Speaker 1: would have been the last time I even thought about it.
- 42:51Speaker 2: I'm right there with you.
- 42:53Speaker 3: I mean, not only did it beat them statistically, but
- 42:56Speaker 3: more obvious to me was the eye test. And I
- 42:58Speaker 3: think it's just got to be SIMI, who would you
- 43:01Speaker 3: want to face?
- 43:02Speaker 2: Less?
- 43:02Speaker 3: I would far less like to face Matthew Stafford than
- 43:06Speaker 3: I would Drake May. Matthew Stafford's got that killer instinct
- 43:09Speaker 3: and he showed it all season long, Richard. For the
- 43:12Speaker 3: Seattle Seahawks to take care of him, both in the
- 43:15Speaker 3: division and in the playoffs is a remarkable testament to
- 43:18Speaker 3: how good this team is.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Richard.
- 43:21Speaker 3: I'm looking at this roster, and this Seattle Seahawks roster
- 43:25Speaker 3: is young. They've got a lot of cap space going
- 43:28Speaker 3: into this offseason. I'm just gonna rattle off some names
- 43:30Speaker 3: here for you. Nick m and Warre twenty one, Bira
- 43:33Speaker 3: Murphy twenty three, JSN twenty three, Tory Horton twenty three,
- 43:37Speaker 3: Gray's Abel twenty three, Devin Witherspoon twenty five, Charles Cross
- 43:41Speaker 3: twenty five, Charbona twenty five, K nine twenty five, Kobe
- 43:45Speaker 3: Bryant twenty six, Ernest Jones twenty six, Riek Wooland twenty six,
- 43:51Speaker 3: Rashid Shaheed twenty seven, your Boy, Julian Love twenty seven,
- 43:55Speaker 3: and Sam Darnold who's under team control twenty eight. Do
- 43:59Speaker 3: we have a die in the making here in Seattle?
- 44:03Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know, but it feels like it. Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I hate getting getting ut the cart before the horse,
- 44:11Speaker 1: but they won the first one and they want it
- 44:13Speaker 1: in convincing fashion, and you feel good about the team
- 44:16Speaker 1: coming back. You feel good about the scheme and the
- 44:19Speaker 1: coaching staff. Will Clint Kobiak going to the Raiders matter, Yes,
- 44:22Speaker 1: it'll matter. Will there be continuity? You have a veteran
- 44:25Speaker 1: quarterback who knows how to navigate this offense, who knows
- 44:29Speaker 1: you know, That's why quarterbacks are so important, because the
- 44:32Speaker 1: offensive coordinator is great. But a quarterback who also understands
- 44:36Speaker 1: the scheme, understands what they do well, and that's not leaving.
- 44:39Speaker 1: And so I think having Sam there for another year,
- 44:45Speaker 1: And you gotta remember this is his first year with
- 44:46Speaker 1: these guys. They lost Tory Horton earlier in the year.
- 44:49Speaker 1: They lost some of their weapons earlier in the year,
- 44:51Speaker 1: and they'll get those guys back, and I think they'll
- 44:53Speaker 1: invest even more on the offensive side because they feel
- 44:56Speaker 1: great about what they have on the defensive side. I
- 44:58Speaker 1: don't think they're going to try to draft more D lineman,
- 45:01Speaker 1: even though I mean, you can never have enough. I
- 45:05Speaker 1: think guys are more op to take team friendly deals
- 45:09Speaker 1: because of how successful and how great this staff is,
- 45:11Speaker 1: how great this team is, how great the culture is,
- 45:14Speaker 1: and I don't think they want to go anywhere else.
- 45:15Speaker 1: They know they have something special here. I don't think
- 45:18Speaker 1: they're going to lose a lot of coaches to Clink
- 45:21Speaker 1: Kubiak's staff, because it's that's such an unknown, you know,
- 45:25Speaker 1: and such an unstable organization. They've fired multiple coaches within
- 45:28Speaker 1: the after the first year coaching. So do you want
- 45:32Speaker 1: to leave a potential dynasty to go somewhere that where
- 45:35Speaker 1: your staff could be fired if things don't go well
- 45:38Speaker 1: and you don't have you're not inheriting a really talented
- 45:41Speaker 1: team to begin with. So I don't think that he's
- 45:44Speaker 1: going to take a lot of the staff with him,
- 45:47Speaker 1: But we'll see how that goes. But I think this
- 45:49Speaker 1: is a sustainable model with the way they have it constructed,
- 45:53Speaker 1: and I look forward to them using Heed in a
- 45:56Speaker 1: more aggressive way and working hard. They have a lot
- 45:59Speaker 1: of caps, but they have a lot of guys they
- 46:01Speaker 1: have to retain, and I think they're gonna work to
- 46:03Speaker 1: retain them. And you know, I think they're gonna work
- 46:05Speaker 1: to retain Kobe Bryant and Josh Joe to start to
- 46:09Speaker 1: wreak Wooland. I think there will be a conversation, but
- 46:12Speaker 1: I expect him to go out and get a lot
- 46:14Speaker 1: of money.
- 46:14Speaker 2: You know.
- 46:14Speaker 1: I think he's going to be a highly sought after
- 46:17Speaker 1: free agent, especially for man centric teams. And will the
- 46:22Speaker 1: Seaouts be able to match him? Will they be able
- 46:24Speaker 1: to convince him to stay. I think Josh Joe will
- 46:26Speaker 1: be more of a discounted price because he's undrafted.
- 46:30Speaker 2: This is his first year. Was he a full time starter.
- 46:33Speaker 1: He didn't have the the he doesn't have the baggage
- 46:35Speaker 1: that not necessarily baggage, but he doesn't have the he
- 46:41Speaker 1: doesn't have necessarily the success that Tarik Wooland has shown.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Tarik Wooland was a pro bowler. He's gotten a little
- 46:46Speaker 1: bit of accolades. He's shown success in his state, the
- 46:48Speaker 1: ability to take the football away. So I think they'll
- 46:50Speaker 1: work hard to retain Josh Joe, but it'll still be
- 46:53Speaker 1: double digits. It'll still be ten plus million dollars that
- 46:56Speaker 1: they have to spend per year to retain him. Kenneth
- 46:59Speaker 1: Walker is obviously the biggest name on this list. The
- 47:03Speaker 1: Super Bowl MVP. He has to be retained. How he
- 47:06Speaker 1: played at the end of the year almost made it.
- 47:09Speaker 1: It was like the light popped on, like he gets it.
- 47:12Speaker 1: He gets it more now than he ever has. So
- 47:14Speaker 1: you have to work hard to retain your guys. And
- 47:16Speaker 1: how much does it costing to retain a running back?
- 47:19Speaker 1: Nowadays it's gonna be thirteen million, fourteen million. The CAP's
- 47:22Speaker 1: just going up. You're not paying your quarterback top of
- 47:24Speaker 1: the market. That's why you're able to retain these guys.
- 47:26Speaker 1: But you have to. That's an important part of these
- 47:29Speaker 1: dynasties is being able to retain the guys that helped
- 47:32Speaker 1: you get there.
- 47:34Speaker 3: Well, that's safe to say. John Schneider is on an
- 47:37Speaker 3: absolute heater. The way he's been drafting Richard. His draft
- 47:41Speaker 3: picks is succession of drafts kickstarted the LB era right
- 47:45Speaker 3: when you cam Bobby. You know, obviously they got the
- 47:48Speaker 3: quarterback in Russell, and to get Sam Darnold and pluck
- 47:52Speaker 3: him out of free agency, and then to have a
- 47:54Speaker 3: draft with Nick Ammin, Warre, Grey Zabel, you know, obviously
- 47:57Speaker 3: Byron Murphy at JSN. All these guys come in recent drafts.
- 48:01Speaker 3: You know, now it's time to turn the page to
- 48:03Speaker 3: the free agency. Out of all those names that you
- 48:06Speaker 3: just listed, which one do you think is most important
- 48:09Speaker 3: that they secure and bring back next year.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Well, it's Kenneth Walker. It's Kenneth Walker. You just saw.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Zach Charbonne was a very important part of this season,
- 48:18Speaker 1: and when he was injured, I think there was a
- 48:21Speaker 1: lot of uncertainty for a lot of people because they've
- 48:24Speaker 1: done it by committee for so long this season. You know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: they split carries because you don't want to put all
- 48:29Speaker 1: the workload on one running back. They K nine was
- 48:33Speaker 1: a little beat up throughout his career when he had
- 48:35Speaker 1: to take those kind of carries consistently. And what he
- 48:38Speaker 1: showed over the last five games is he could carry
- 48:40Speaker 1: the workload once the end of the season came, like, hey,
- 48:43Speaker 1: maybe throughout the season he does need some by committee,
- 48:46Speaker 1: you know what I mean, help to take some of
- 48:49Speaker 1: the pressure off of But when it's money time, you
- 48:52Speaker 1: can lean on him in that way and expect him
- 48:54Speaker 1: to have success. And I think that's important to continuity
- 48:58Speaker 1: there is important. So to it allow him to walk
- 49:00Speaker 1: away with what he just did this playoff run would
- 49:04Speaker 1: just be silly to me. And I don't think he
- 49:05Speaker 1: wants to go, and I don't think the team wants
- 49:07Speaker 1: him to go, So I think that's the most important piece,
- 49:10Speaker 1: and I think the rest of the pieces falling in
- 49:11Speaker 1: place after you get him secure.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Your spot on. I mean, it's very unfortunate what happened
- 49:17Speaker 3: to Zach Charbonnay with the ACL injury, but no one
- 49:19Speaker 3: benefited from it more than Kenneth Walker. Like I said,
- 49:23Speaker 3: I witness his first hand when he was at Michigan State.
- 49:25Speaker 3: He was alone back in that backfield, was carrying the
- 49:28Speaker 3: ball thirty plus times a game to no problem, wearing
- 49:30Speaker 3: down defenses. I think the rest of the world got
- 49:33Speaker 3: to see that on Super Bowl Sunday, Kenneth Walker taking
- 49:37Speaker 3: over twenty seven carries over one hundred and thirty yards rushing.
- 49:41Speaker 3: I'm with you. I think he's very vital that they
- 49:44Speaker 3: bring back. Obviously, Kobe Bryant has come on here this year.
- 49:47Speaker 3: You mentioned jobs show Reek wooland, but they have gotten
- 49:51Speaker 3: an embarrassment of riches on the defensive side of the ball.
- 49:54Speaker 3: I to agree K nine is a must bring back
- 49:56Speaker 3: for this team. Richard. It's been a hell of a run.
- 50:00Speaker 3: You were one of the few I would say that
- 50:02Speaker 3: called this from training camp. And but go ahead, because.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I want to address this thing because they're gonna keep
- 50:12Speaker 1: doing it and unless we address it the dress the way,
- 50:16Speaker 1: my friend, the whole comparison thing is l O B
- 50:19Speaker 1: MLB comparison thing that they want to continue to do
- 50:23Speaker 1: and who's better? And I love I loved what they
- 50:26Speaker 1: did this season. It was fantastic. But we live in
- 50:29Speaker 1: a day and age everybody feels the need to compare, compare, compare?
- 50:33Speaker 1: Is this better than that? Is this better than that?
- 50:36Speaker 1: Is this person better than this person who played this time?
- 50:38Speaker 1: Like we don't know, we don't know, But sometimes you
- 50:42Speaker 1: don't have to compare. You know, It's like great art, Mitchell,
- 50:45Speaker 1: do you do you compare like a van go to
- 50:48Speaker 1: a Picasso? Like no, you just appreciate they're both beautiful.
- 50:52Speaker 1: You know, you appreciate that they're both incredible pieces of
- 50:55Speaker 1: art by incredible artists. You don't need to say, well,
- 50:58Speaker 1: Picassos is better because Van Goldes was better, or a
- 51:02Speaker 1: Michael Angelo's was better because of this. No, you don't
- 51:06Speaker 1: need to do it. You don't need to do it.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Just appreciate the art, Appreciate the incredibly dominant Super Bowl
- 51:12Speaker 1: champion team that you just got to witness. These guys
- 51:15Speaker 1: are incredible in their own right. They don't need to
- 51:18Speaker 1: be associated with us or compared or you know, two
- 51:21Speaker 1: point zero or two. They are one point zero, original,
- 51:25Speaker 1: unique versions of themselves, and they did an incredible job,
- 51:28Speaker 1: had an incredible season, and they deserve all the shine
- 51:31Speaker 1: and credit. Y'all don't need to tie them in to
- 51:34Speaker 1: us in any way to take away their shine. Let
- 51:36Speaker 1: them shine, baby. They went out there and did it.
- 51:39Speaker 1: We didn't have nothing to do with it.
- 51:41Speaker 3: You know.
- 51:41Speaker 1: We talked to guys a little bit, try to try
- 51:43Speaker 1: to answer questions and support them in the ways any
- 51:46Speaker 1: veteran and any old guys would. But at the end
- 51:51Speaker 1: of the day, these guys went out here and did
- 51:52Speaker 1: something incredibly special, had a dominant season in an incredible way.
- 51:57Speaker 1: When the odds were really long. I think there were
- 51:59Speaker 1: sixty to one. I think it was the most improbable
- 52:03Speaker 1: Super Bowl champion like the last twenty years, which is
- 52:06Speaker 1: a testament to the guys in the building. And I
- 52:08Speaker 1: thought again when I went in training camp. When I
- 52:11Speaker 1: went to training camp, you could feel it. You could
- 52:13Speaker 1: feel the attention of detail, you could feel the hunger,
- 52:16Speaker 1: you could feel the how locked in everybody was and
- 52:19Speaker 1: how much they care. And that's why I felt good
- 52:22Speaker 1: about them winning the division and particularly winning the Super Bowl,
- 52:25Speaker 1: because that you don't have that everywhere. Everybody doesn't take
- 52:29Speaker 1: this serious and everybody doesn't have that cohesiveness, that togetherness,
- 52:33Speaker 1: that brotherhood. I could feel the brotherhood starting with the
- 52:36Speaker 1: offensive line. And what's crazy is Grey's Abel was at
- 52:41Speaker 1: the heart of that. Greysabel was at the heart of
- 52:43Speaker 1: the jailing of the offensive line coming together throughout training camp,
- 52:46Speaker 1: and I think he's a big reason they have the
- 52:50Speaker 1: success they do. I mean, obviously him and Sondale played
- 52:53Speaker 1: together at North Dakota State, but the way he and
- 52:56Speaker 1: Charles Cross had a relationship. Charles Cross in training camp, like,
- 52:59Speaker 1: hey man, I can't miss practice because I can't let
- 53:02Speaker 1: my guy down. This is training camp, and sometimes guys
- 53:04Speaker 1: are so quick to be selfish in training camp for
- 53:07Speaker 1: the seeing, Ah, I got to do what's best for me,
- 53:08Speaker 1: and that's fine, you know what I mean, nothing wrong
- 53:10Speaker 1: with that. But when you're trying to win Super Bowls,
- 53:13Speaker 1: it's we over me, And when you try to get
- 53:17Speaker 1: paid and have a long career, sometimes those things are
- 53:20Speaker 1: online the same way. Sometimes it's me over we because
- 53:23Speaker 1: I got to make sure my family's fed. I gotta
- 53:25Speaker 1: make sure my body sustains for a long time. But
- 53:30Speaker 1: when I started to hear those things in training camp,
- 53:32Speaker 1: I said, oh, this team might have the makings of
- 53:35Speaker 1: something really cool, because it's not always about talent level.
- 53:38Speaker 1: When you got guys that will play for one another,
- 53:40Speaker 1: when you got guys that will sacrifice for one another.
- 53:42Speaker 1: When you got guys that will go out there and
- 53:44Speaker 1: put their body in harm's way, not for selfish gains
- 53:48Speaker 1: or selfish needs, but because they care about the guy
- 53:51Speaker 1: next to them.
- 53:52Speaker 2: That's when you have special teams.
- 53:54Speaker 1: And then you get into situations where things get adverse,
- 53:57Speaker 1: things get crazy, things get out of hand.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Instead of attacking and each.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Guy you know, I mean imploding, you do like a
- 54:05Speaker 1: family do does and you overcome it together. And I
- 54:09Speaker 1: think that's what I understood about this team, and that's
- 54:11Speaker 1: what I saw on training camp, along with Mike McDonald's
- 54:15Speaker 1: scheme and how much he cares and how detailed he is,
- 54:19Speaker 1: and how much humility and how humble of a man
- 54:22Speaker 1: he is. His confidence and his trust and everything that
- 54:26Speaker 1: he's built comes from the work he puts in, the
- 54:28Speaker 1: work that his staff puts in there. There's no fluff
- 54:31Speaker 1: about it, no fluff about who they are and what
- 54:34Speaker 1: they put out there. It's the work that they're putting in.
- 54:36Speaker 1: They don't it's no guesswork involved. They want to put
- 54:39Speaker 1: their guys in the best position possible and get the
- 54:41Speaker 1: best guys out there to go out there and do
- 54:43Speaker 1: the job.
- 54:43Speaker 2: It's nothing personal. It's all business.
- 54:45Speaker 1: And those guys were in an incredible business, incredible team,
- 54:48Speaker 1: incredible culture, and congratulations to them.
- 54:52Speaker 3: The Seattle Seahawks are taking over modern day football right now, Richards.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Since two thousand and two, they have ten division titles,
- 54:58Speaker 3: they got four Super Bowl upeararance is, they got two
- 55:01Speaker 3: Lombardi trophies hanging in their trophy case. Now they're starting
- 55:05Speaker 3: to make some other fan bases envious. I mean they've
- 55:07Speaker 3: turned into a juggernaut. I don't see it stopping anytime soon.
- 55:12Speaker 3: I think that this team is gonna go on a
- 55:14Speaker 3: little bit of a run here, Richard. Whether they can
- 55:16Speaker 3: replicate this year or not, they're gonna be highly competitive
- 55:19Speaker 3: going into next season. The twelves in Seattle, congratulations, you
- 55:24Speaker 3: guys deserve this. Rocking the Seattle Seahawks hat and support.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Richard.
- 55:28Speaker 3: It's been a hell of a year. Love sitting down
- 55:30Speaker 3: with you numerous times a week down the stretch. You've
- 55:34Speaker 3: been committed. Your work ethic is unmatched, and it was
- 55:38Speaker 3: an awesome time being able to spend on Radio Row
- 55:41Speaker 3: in San Francisco with you. Pat this past week. My man,
- 55:44Speaker 3: I will let you side us off as we welcome
- 55:46Speaker 3: home the Seattle Seahawks super Bowl champs. Congratulations again, and.

- 55:59Speaker 1: sometimes you're Troy Lions did not they let you down
