SPEAKER_02: Hi and welcome to this episode of Sassin's Sips.
• 0:13
SPEAKER_02: Today we are discussing the episode the plan from Six Feet Under.
• 0:20
SPEAKER_02: I'm one of your hosts, I'm Lisa.
• 0:22
  SPEAKER_02: I'm Brittany.
• 0:24
  SPEAKER_02: And welcome.
• 0:26
SPEAKER_01: What are you drinking today?
• 0:28
SPEAKER_01: I am drinking I think my new summer cider.
• 0:33
  SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm a cider growly.
• 0:35
SPEAKER_01: Um I'm not too into beers, but I really like cider.
• 0:37
SPEAKER_01: So um from the brand down east, I found their flavor called orange creamsicle.
• 0:43
SPEAKER_01: Some people are vomiting in their mouth right now.
• 0:45
  SPEAKER_01: I am not.
• 0:48
  SPEAKER_01: I think it's great.
• 0:49
SPEAKER_01: Um, I have a straw in the can right now.
• 0:52
SPEAKER_01: I'm living my best life.
• 0:52
SPEAKER_01: Lisa, what are you drinking?
• 0:54
SPEAKER_02: I have a straw in the can too, but I found a pineapple white claw in my fridge.
• 0:59
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 1:00
  SPEAKER_02: So that's what I'm drinking.
• 1:01
SPEAKER_02: I am not a cider person, but but I would try that because I really like creamsickle.
• 1:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it doesn't taste like apple-y or cidery.
• 1:12
SPEAKER_01: It kind of just tastes like orange creamsicle-y.
• 1:15
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:15
SPEAKER_01: And then all of a sudden you get dizzy.
• 1:18
  SPEAKER_01: I'm like, okay.
• 1:21
SPEAKER_02: Um, so a little bit of housekeeping.
• 1:25
SPEAKER_02: As you guys may have noticed, um, by the time this episode airs, all some, if not all, of our bonus Patreon bonus episodes have been pub pub blah blah blah published, published into the regular podcast feed, but as a subscription.
• 1:53
SPEAKER_02: So we figured that it would just make it easier for some of you who don't want to mess around with the Patreon subscription.
• 2:01
SPEAKER_02: Um so you can do that there, you can get all the bonus episodes.
• 2:05
SPEAKER_02: Um, in today's pre-show, Agnes made a special appearance and we talked about some letters that we forgot and sex capades.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_01: I'm so butthurt about that whole thing.
• 2:22
  SPEAKER_02: And I've read it.
• 2:24
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, and this episode has been brought to you by the letter S.
• 2:28
SPEAKER_02: And if you listen to the pre-show, you will understand.
• 2:32
SPEAKER_02: This is also for sex.
• 2:36
  SPEAKER_02: Um my god.
• 2:38
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then I also um I had I had done a few episodes of a podcast with Alex, and then he like crapped out of it because he's anyway.
• 2:50
SPEAKER_02: Um, and so I've started moving all those episodes over to the bonus feed.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_02: So, and you you were on one of those, so there's an episode with you in.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_01: I was honestly, that was a great time.
• 3:04
SPEAKER_01: I just remember like setting up like the table in your like we don't call it a screenhouse.
• 3:09
SPEAKER_01: What do you guys call it?
• 3:10
  SPEAKER_02: Uh a sunroom.
• 3:11
SPEAKER_01: Yes, in the sunroom, and we were sitting at the table and we had drinks and we had snacks, and we were just bullshitting, and it was great.
• 3:17
SPEAKER_01: And honestly, like I remember when the episode was free, I think it was like right after you published it.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_01: I was still in college, and so I was commuting like an hour and a half one way.
• 3:30
SPEAKER_01: So I remember listening to that episode on the way down from school, or on the way down to school, and it was great.
• 3:37
SPEAKER_01: I was just like, shit, like what did this episode go?
• 3:40
SPEAKER_01: This is this is really good, and like honestly, it was the first time where I listened to myself and I didn't cringe.
• 3:44
SPEAKER_01: And so that says something about the quality of the episode, guys.
• 3:48
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I enjoyed doing it, but he he wasn't so into it, and it was like I don't know, like you'd think that I was making him like scrub the grout with a toothbrush when really all we did was all he had to do was sit down, have a drink or two, and talk to me for a little while.
• 4:09
SPEAKER_02: So what a hard thing to do, you know, so fine, but I'm I don't want to pay for the hosting service anymore to hold those episodes when there's never gonna be new episodes, so so I've just moved them all over.
• 4:31
SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, um, but that's it for that, I think.
• 4:37
SPEAKER_02: And today we're talking about the plan, which hold on.
• 4:45
SPEAKER_02: I don't know where all that paper came from.
• 4:46
  SPEAKER_02: Okay, sorry.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_02: So this is um episode three of season two.
• 4:51
SPEAKER_02: The original air date is March 17th of 2002.
• 4:57
SPEAKER_01: That was a whole 17 years before Emmy was born.
• 5:00
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
• 5:00
  SPEAKER_01: It's Emmy's birthday, yeah.
• 5:03
SPEAKER_01: Emmy is my family's um mini husky.
• 5:06
SPEAKER_01: She's supposed to be a Pomeranian husky, and she's clearly not, which is fine.
• 5:10
SPEAKER_01: But um well, she is.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_01: I think she's just got a little bit more husky, and she's got a lot of husky, her shape is Pomeranian, yeah, yeah.
• 5:21
SPEAKER_01: It's just her her thickness is Pomeranian.
• 5:26
SPEAKER_01: The rest of her is all husky.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_01: So but yeah, this episode actually starts off with John Michael Piper, 49 years old, and we see him packing up a station wagon for a long trip.
• 5:39
SPEAKER_01: He says, Don't forget the dog, honey, but he's actually not packing up a station wagon and he's not outdoors and he's not getting ready for a long trip.
• 5:48
SPEAKER_01: He's in the hospital room and he's actually a cancer patient who's dreaming adult between bouts of intense pain.
• 5:54
SPEAKER_01: I'm going to beat it, he says to his wife Eileen, in like a moment of lucidity, but you can't.
• 6:00
SPEAKER_01: You don't have to, his wife says, and he's shocked.
• 6:04
SPEAKER_01: Eileen, who's just as scared as Michael is, says, It's just your body, it's not you, in response to Michael saying he doesn't want to die.
• 6:11
SPEAKER_01: And his response to his wife is, that's bullshit, Eileen.
• 6:15
SPEAKER_01: And it ends up that's the last thing he says because even though he's you know trying to fight this pain and trying to stay alive, his nurse comes in with a morphine drip, he clicks it a bunch of times, and then he just dreams again until we hear flatline.
• 6:30
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you hear when we see the title card.
• 6:33
SPEAKER_02: You hear as he's flatlining, you can hear the dog barking again.
• 6:39
SPEAKER_02: Wait, hold on, are you serious?
• 6:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you didn't catch that.
• 6:43
SPEAKER_01: I did not catch that at all.
• 6:45
SPEAKER_01: No, I kind of caught um his wife saying, like, so um Michael's mother was actually still in the room, too.
• 6:51
SPEAKER_01: She wasn't really being supportive, but then again, it was like a mother losing her son.
• 6:55
SPEAKER_01: So, like, I completely understand any kind of outbursts that the woman would have, and or even not saying the right things in that moment because like your emotions really take over.
• 7:04
SPEAKER_01: But Eileen was trying to tell his mom, like, look, don't you see the halo above his head?
• 7:09
SPEAKER_01: And his mom turns away almost as in disgust, not at like the son dying, but in disgust of what Eileen's saying, and so that's what I picked up on in that moment.
• 7:18
SPEAKER_01: I was like, ooh, body language.
• 7:19
  SPEAKER_01: I didn't hear the dog bark.
• 7:21
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right as he like after he gets the morphine and he's closing his eyes back again, as it's fading to white, like to the title card, you can hear the dog barking again.
• 7:33
SPEAKER_02: And I was like, that's so sad and so sweet at the same time.
• 7:38
SPEAKER_02: Because you think, like, yeah, you know, obviously the dog is gone because the mother is like, I didn't know you had a dog, and she's like, Oh, yeah, when we lived in Boulder, we had a dog, and so you assume you infer that the dog has passed, um, and and it's kind of like welcoming him.
• 8:03
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh yeah, right?
• 8:05
SPEAKER_02: It's it was like sweet and sad at the same time.
• 8:10
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, something else I want to quickly note.
• 8:13
SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh my god, please.
• 8:15
SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, I mean I mean to make you like sad, you know.
• 8:20
SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, no, I was oh my god.
• 8:23
  SPEAKER_01: Tiny little sidebar.
• 8:25
SPEAKER_01: I was like, when I wake up in the morning, I just like can't open up my eyes.
• 8:28
SPEAKER_01: So I just get a cup of coffee and I go on YouTube and I watch YouTube Shorts.
• 8:31
SPEAKER_01: It's like my morning routine.
• 8:33
SPEAKER_01: And so I was like on YouTube Shorts the other morning and somebody wasn't doing their job moderating things, and I saw animal abuse, and I was just like, what the fuck?
• 8:40
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 8:42
SPEAKER_01: Just talk about killing an animal, but anyway, um something I actually want to mention about Michael John Piper, when we do see his um his title card, it says 1952 to 2001, making him 49 years old, but this episode aired in 2002, and I feel like the writers knew that, and so I wonder why they left the years 2001.
• 9:02
SPEAKER_01: Because it now it's just kind of messing up the storyline if it's supposed to be current day, and this episode aired in 2002.
• 9:09
SPEAKER_02: So I didn't quite catch that connection, however, 9-11 oh yeah, and and this actually, this is gonna make sense, but not, it's not going to make sense because I was gonna say, well, maybe because maybe they had to push the production schedule back, but then again, there's so many references, not so many, but I I feel like I caught a few 9-11 references in this episode and yeah, like when Nate was like, or or you could be on the wrong plane, and then they kept saying like when they kept counting months and six six, seven months later is there, March of 2022.
• 10:12
  SPEAKER_01: Slightly fucked up.
• 10:15
SPEAKER_01: What I said that's slightly fucked up, like to make that joke, and like I mean, like I don't know if it was like a joke or if it was just kind of like you know, like a realization, you know, because all right, well, we didn't even get to that part yet, but we'll talk about it when we get there, I guess.
• 10:34
  SPEAKER_02: So, but I don't know.
• 10:35
SPEAKER_02: Going back to the original question, I have no idea.
• 10:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just actually checked when season one ended and when season two began.
• 10:43
SPEAKER_01: Season one, the last episode, knock knock, episode 13, aired August 19, 2001.
• 10:48
SPEAKER_02: And the death of the season two because okay, so knock knock when um Aunt Lillian died, it it said June 14th, and I remember because that's Val's birthday.
• 11:00
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, look at that.
• 11:02
SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I guess it's not necessarily supposed to follow like the current timeline of like when the person like when it aired, when like people were watching the episode originally.
• 11:12
SPEAKER_01: Because I was gonna say then season two started March 3rd, and which makes sense between like production time, but I didn't know if anything got pushed off because of 9-11 or anything like that.
• 11:19
SPEAKER_02: So I don't remember when the death date was of the of the last one though.
• 11:24
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, me either.
• 11:26
SPEAKER_01: I kind of missed the date, but I just noticed the year for sure.
• 11:32
SPEAKER_02: But I guess it it could still be quote.
• 11:37
SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, it has to be because in the timeline with um the whole gabe and the gun and all that shit, it's only a couple of weeks.
• 12:12
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, you're right.
• 12:13
SPEAKER_01: We were talking about this in the beginning of episode like the beginning of season two.
• 12:17
SPEAKER_01: We were talking about like I wonder how long it's been between the end of episode one and the beginning of season two, because it seems like Claire is still like up in the air about things.
• 12:24
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and and before they used to put the date, the total date, and now they just put the years.
• 12:32
SPEAKER_02: So you don't even technically know what month it is anymore.
• 12:38
SPEAKER_02: Like in the first season you knew what day it was, what day of the year it was, and now you don't.
• 12:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I thought maybe they only did the dates when that baby died to like make it like hit that, like, hey, the baby's only been online for like a couple of days or a month or whatever it was.
• 12:54
SPEAKER_01: But um, that's when I could see the date because it was the same year, you know what I mean?
• 13:00
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 13:02
SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I'm just switching settings.
• 13:05
SPEAKER_01: But anyway, um just watching the sorry, but yes, we end the beginning scene learning about Michael John Piper.
• 13:15
SPEAKER_01: And speaking of which, um, let's give a little bit of an episode summary before we get into everything.
• 13:20
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 13:21
SPEAKER_02: The funeral for Michael Piper, whose wife is a psychic, raises many interesting questions.
• 13:28
SPEAKER_02: Ruth attends the plan, can you hear the quotes?
• 13:33
SPEAKER_02: Self-help seminar and tries to make here they come again, listen for the quotes, renovations in her life.
• 13:41
SPEAKER_02: But ends up deciding it's all nonsense and telling the whole seminar group self.
• 13:46
SPEAKER_02: Dave and Keith continue to bond while Keith frets about his absent addict sister and her daughter.
• 13:55
SPEAKER_02: Claire tries to help Gabe as the cops close in on him for armed robbery, but he shoots a driver in a fit of rage instead.
• 14:04
  SPEAKER_02: As Mrs.
• 14:05
SPEAKER_02: Piper transitions her husband into the afterlife, the ghost of Nathaniel C.
• 14:10
  SPEAKER_02: Sr.
• 14:11
SPEAKER_02: questions his son's bel the ghost Nathaniel questions his son's about their beliefs.
• 14:23
  SPEAKER_01: It's okay, I forgot the letter S.
• 14:30
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 14:31
SPEAKER_01: Let's get into this episode.
• 14:33
SPEAKER_01: So we're um let's start this episode off with David and Nate.
• 14:37
SPEAKER_01: And actually, like the first scene, besides the title card, of course, shows David and Nate.
• 14:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're in the casket buffet room.
• 14:46
SPEAKER_01: You know, the casket ball that they had built at the end of last episode, paid by Kroger.
• 14:52
SPEAKER_01: It's just the casket buffet.
• 14:54
SPEAKER_01: Yes, and so David and Nate are in there with um Eileen, actually.
• 15:01
SPEAKER_01: And they're trying to sell Eileen a casket for her late husband, Michael, and the boys are cut off in conversation by Eileen's late husband.
• 15:09
SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is around the time we learned Eileen can speak to the dead, uh self-proclaimed psychic.
• 15:14
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 15:15
SPEAKER_01: And just like Amanda Cyprus, what's her name?
• 15:18
  SPEAKER_01: And Mean Girls.
• 15:19
SPEAKER_01: What fucking characters is she playing?
• 15:21
  SPEAKER_01: Mean Girls.
• 15:21
  SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
• 15:22
SPEAKER_01: I forgot to pull up link.
• 15:23
SPEAKER_02: I all I know is like Regina George.
• 15:26
  SPEAKER_02: No, hold on.
• 15:27
  SPEAKER_02: This is my era.
• 15:28
  SPEAKER_02: What is her name?
• 15:29
  SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
• 15:30
SPEAKER_02: I watched this movie for the first time over the summer when Illy was here.
• 15:34
  SPEAKER_01: Karen.
• 15:36
  SPEAKER_01: Karen Smith.
• 15:37
  SPEAKER_01: That's Amanda Seifrid's character's name.
• 15:40
SPEAKER_01: That's the one that's like when she feels her boobs at the end of the movie and it's like raining, she's like, it's a 60% chance it's already raining.
• 15:49
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 15:50
SPEAKER_01: And so, like, just like Karen at the end of Mean Girls, Eileen can read the obvious lines of the room.
• 15:57
SPEAKER_01: Her first reading in this episode is of the viewing room.
• 16:00
SPEAKER_01: She claims that it has a lot of pain in it.
• 16:02
SPEAKER_01: And David's just like yellow.
• 16:03
  SPEAKER_01: No shit, Sherlock.
• 16:05
SPEAKER_01: He goes, uh, yeah, just like that.
• 16:09
SPEAKER_01: And while this makes us all think that she's psychotic, not psychic, uh, she does make a comment towards Nate about the things in his mind, but corrects herself to say on your mind, aka like the ABM.
• 16:21
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 16:22
SPEAKER_01: And while David's face is priceless, learning that, like, oh, hold on, I can't read either.
• 16:28
SPEAKER_01: Uh while David's face is priceless, we learn uh like while they're debriefing in the kitchen that Eileen does spiritual consultation and past life regression.
• 16:39
SPEAKER_01: So she likes a business card to me.
• 16:42
SPEAKER_02: Do you believe in psychics?
• 16:45
  SPEAKER_01: I don't know, man.
• 16:47
SPEAKER_01: I like I want to because I think it's fucking dope, but at the same time, I feel like it's one big scam and we're all falling for it.
• 16:55
SPEAKER_01: But like, I also don't want to like demean anybody's abilities.
• 17:00
SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
• 17:01
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 17:02
SPEAKER_01: I feel like we all definitely have a way of sensing and like maybe reading, like when people say like reading a room or feeling a vibe, but like we're gut instincts for sure.
• 17:13
SPEAKER_01: Like, I feel like there is like another sense that we all have that's just not as strong as like our sight and touch and you know, sense and everything.
• 17:21
SPEAKER_01: But I don't know if I believe in pure psychics.
• 17:23
  SPEAKER_01: What about you?
• 17:24
  SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's impossible.
• 17:27
  SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think anything you can't prove a negative, right?
• 17:32
SPEAKER_02: But I agree that I think that a lot of people who claim to be psychic are just in it for the money and maybe and don't necessarily have any ability, but I'm sure that there are people out there who definitely have more of a gift for it.
• 17:59
SPEAKER_02: And and I feel like it's a spectrum, you know, where some people maybe have a small ability, and some maybe there's others that have like a a really big big, I don't know, what's the word?
• 18:15
SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, like um like a greater sense almost.
• 18:20
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 18:21
  SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
• 18:22
SPEAKER_01: Um like it's if it's almost like a perception, they have like a greater perception, right, right.
• 18:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but then there's like I mean it's she's been debunked, but then there's like people like Miss Cleo, right?
• 18:35
SPEAKER_01: Which is more just like a character.
• 18:37
SPEAKER_01: You know who Miss Clear is.
• 18:38
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 18:38
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 18:39
  SPEAKER_01: Okay, good, good, yeah.
• 18:40
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there was actually um Yes, Calm.
• 18:46
SPEAKER_01: And so there was, yeah.
• 18:49
SPEAKER_01: So I was like, every late night about Miss Clear.
• 18:52
  SPEAKER_01: Yes.
• 18:53
SPEAKER_01: Um, I forgot what like streaming service it was on, possibly HTML Netflix, but um there was a Miss Clear documentary.
• 19:02
  SPEAKER_01: Oh really?
• 19:03
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just I don't think I finished it.
• 19:06
  SPEAKER_01: Um you know what?
• 19:07
SPEAKER_01: That could be like a Patreon exit, honestly.
• 19:09
  SPEAKER_01: I remember I watched like half a day.
• 19:10
SPEAKER_01: I was waiting for Jeff to get home from like his holiday, winter holiday party, and I was like, uh I I couldn't finish watching it because I was making Mitsubisha sticks at like 1am for him.
• 19:20
SPEAKER_01: But you know how it is.
• 19:22
SPEAKER_01: You know how winter holiday parties are, yeah.
• 19:25
SPEAKER_02: No, I think I think it's definitely something that somebody maybe has an ability to do.
• 19:31
  SPEAKER_02: Or, you know, people.
• 19:32
  SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's impossible.
• 19:34
SPEAKER_02: I just don't know if I've ever met any or seen any for real, if that makes sense.
• 19:42
  SPEAKER_02: But I don't discount the ability.
• 19:46
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
• 19:47
SPEAKER_01: Do you remember that one that was by CSI College?
• 19:51
SPEAKER_01: It was like where Blockbuster used to be.
• 19:54
SPEAKER_02: It was that little place on like the corner of Richmond and Victory.
• 19:59
SPEAKER_01: It was connected to the pizza place, yeah.
• 20:00
SPEAKER_02: Yes, I've never been in there, but I I know exactly what you're talking about.
• 20:04
SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say so.
• 20:05
SPEAKER_01: I I went in there once and um she did like a reading for me, and she was like, You're going to be married to the person that you're seeing.
• 20:16
  SPEAKER_01: This was like 2015.
• 20:18
SPEAKER_01: She's like, and you're gonna have two boys.
• 20:20
SPEAKER_01: Like, I that is far from the truth.
• 20:23
SPEAKER_02: I would love, I've never gone to one, but I really want to hint hint, buy us a psychic reading.
• 20:31
SPEAKER_01: That would honestly be pretty fucking dope to get a psychic reading.
• 20:35
SPEAKER_01: Like, like I say, I'm not just like oh no, the frauds.
• 20:38
  SPEAKER_01: I just feel like I don't maybe I just don't know enough.
• 20:41
SPEAKER_01: I would love to actually have true abilities.
• 20:45
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 20:48
SPEAKER_02: But I know when I was younger, um, I was like in the sixth grade.
• 20:56
  SPEAKER_02: I was coming home.
• 20:57
SPEAKER_02: Now, this is like you know, the stone age when elementary schools used to go up to the sixth grade, not the fifth grade.
• 21:03
SPEAKER_02: So we had like a graduation party.
• 21:06
SPEAKER_02: One of our friends in the neighborhood, this is in Brooklyn, one of our friends in the neighborhood had a graduation party, and we went and then I was walking home.
• 21:16
SPEAKER_02: I was walking with one of my friends, but I lived further.
• 21:19
SPEAKER_02: So, like I was, you know, on the other side of the highway and all that.
• 21:23
SPEAKER_02: But anyway, so we walked to her house and then she went inside, like she went, you know, into her building and I kept going.
• 21:33
SPEAKER_02: I still had like another like five or six blocks to go, and I remember like right after she went inside, um, before she would live in the middle of the block before I even got to now we had hung out on her block all the time, but before I even got to the end of her block, like I had this, like I want to say a vision, for lack of a better term, of somebody jumping out at me from between the cars that were parked.
• 22:07
SPEAKER_02: So I was walking on the sidewalk, and her block was a one way block.
• 22:11
SPEAKER_02: So the cars would be going this way, right?
• 22:15
SPEAKER_02: So the cars were parked to my left and the buildings were to my right.
• 22:19
SPEAKER_02: And I had like this vision of somebody jumping out from beh between like the two park.
• 22:25
SPEAKER_02: Cars like the you know the hood and the trunk and like uh attacking me.
• 22:32
SPEAKER_02: And I remember thinking like what the like I mean I was 11.
• 22:35
SPEAKER_02: It wasn't it was just like what the hell?
• 22:38
SPEAKER_02: Then I was like, Oh, it's just my imagination.
• 22:40
SPEAKER_02: I mean, I I walked home plenty of times by myself.
• 22:45
SPEAKER_02: I crossed over the bridge and I got fucking mugged.
• 22:49
  SPEAKER_01: Are you serious?
• 22:50
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
• 22:52
SPEAKER_02: I mean he didn't attack me or anything, he just he snatched my chain and kept going.
• 22:59
SPEAKER_02: But I remember like I was so upset that I couldn't even put the key in the door, and my neighbor came down and he was like, he thought I was laughing because I I couldn't I couldn't even breathe.
• 23:10
SPEAKER_02: It was like right around the corner from my house, too.
• 23:12
SPEAKER_02: And he came down and he like I don't even know why he came downstairs.
• 23:18
SPEAKER_02: He was a year older than me.
• 23:20
SPEAKER_02: And then when he saw my face, he was like, What happened?
• 23:22
SPEAKER_02: And I was like, this guy just like snatched my chain.
• 23:26
SPEAKER_02: Yo, he went, he got the baseball bat, and he took off.
• 23:31
SPEAKER_02: And I'm just like, what?
• 23:33
  SPEAKER_02: Like, where's your mom?
• 23:35
SPEAKER_02: Because no nobody in my family was home.
• 23:37
SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, we can't.
• 23:38
  SPEAKER_02: Dude, you're literally tall.
• 23:40
  SPEAKER_02: Really?
• 23:40
SPEAKER_02: We came home from school by ourselves all the time.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_02: And um, he he got the I mean, but he was all like I was tiny, he was tall, he, you know, um he was like a year and a half older me, older than me, but like one grade older only.
• 23:57
SPEAKER_02: So like I'm graduating sixth grade, he's finishing seventh grade.
• 24:00
SPEAKER_02: I mean, it wasn't like you know, he's he's a 20-year-old man, and he he didn't catch the guy.
• 24:05
SPEAKER_02: I don't know, the guy was like long gone.
• 24:07
SPEAKER_02: I don't know where he went, but but that's like the closest thing that I've experienced, excuse me, to something in that and I don't know if it's a coincidence or I mean nothing has ever happened like to me around my neighborhood before or after.
• 24:28
SPEAKER_02: But that's so strange, but I remember like and the only reason it stands out to me is because that's the same day that I fucking got mugged.
• 24:39
  SPEAKER_01: That's just so weird.
• 24:41
SPEAKER_01: It's it's it really is so weird, yeah.
• 24:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's almost like just like a sign warning you, but it's the fact that you got that sign.
• 24:48
SPEAKER_01: Like I was gonna say at first, like, oh, maybe anxiety thoughts, because sometimes I like I'll be walking and I'm like, what if a car just like fucking came up on the sidewalk and hit me?
• 24:56
  SPEAKER_01: What would you like?
• 24:57
SPEAKER_01: I know, but this is an anxiety thought.
• 24:59
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but these are adult thoughts.
• 25:01
SPEAKER_02: This was not that's what I mean, a kid thought.
• 25:04
SPEAKER_02: And and the the thing is, like, I still had four I had walked four blocks between the time that I had like that that vision, that thought, and the time that I got mugged.
• 25:18
SPEAKER_02: So it wasn't like, oh, I saw this man and it freaked me out or whatever, and then he mugged me.
• 25:24
SPEAKER_02: And then you had a thought about him.
• 25:25
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 25:26
SPEAKER_02: That guy, the guy was walking in the opposite direction.
• 25:29
SPEAKER_02: So it was literally as as I walked past him, he just snatched it right off my neck, like grabbed it and snatched and kept going.
• 25:38
SPEAKER_02: So he wasn't he wasn't anywhere near me when I had that thought.
• 25:42
SPEAKER_02: He was totally like, whoever knows where the fuck he came from.
• 25:47
SPEAKER_02: He was not anywhere near me when I had that thought.
• 25:49
SPEAKER_02: And I have like I said, I had walked like another three, four blocks, plus over a bridge over a highway.
• 25:58
SPEAKER_02: So it was like, what the fuck?
• 26:00
SPEAKER_02: Like, and I remember thinking, like, oh my god, I had that gut feeling, and I didn't listen.
• 26:06
SPEAKER_02: And I remember like blaming myself.
• 26:09
SPEAKER_02: Like, obviously, it wasn't my fault, you know, it was only it was the asshole's fault, but I remember thinking I should have just turned back around and went to her house and went like right up into her building, like rang her bell and said, I don't want to walk home.
• 26:26
SPEAKER_02: But that sounds crazy, right?
• 26:28
SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't want to I mean and not that her mother would have been like no to this day.
• 26:33
SPEAKER_02: Her mother and my father are still friends.
• 26:35
SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's not you know, but and and her mother lives in Puerto Rico, so and my father will still visit her whenever he goes.
• 26:44
SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's like I visited her the last time I went out there, but you it it's just like it sounds so stupid, right?
• 26:50
SPEAKER_02: Like something that you do every day, you walk home, and then the one day, but like you think well, if I call, if I go back and I say I don't want to walk home, you don't look like a little fucking pussy.
• 27:02
SPEAKER_02: No, no, it wasn't look like a little fucking pussy, like yeah.
• 27:07
SPEAKER_01: Also, like it's not like you were like, Oh, well, I saw something because nothing happened yet.
• 27:11
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, could you imagine?
• 27:13
SPEAKER_02: Like, were you smoking at the party?
• 27:16
SPEAKER_01: Like it would have been like, what are you talking nuts?
• 27:19
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but yeah, so but but speaking of nuts, yeah.
• 27:24
  SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
• 27:26
SPEAKER_01: No, no, you're all good.
• 27:28
  SPEAKER_01: Um, it's David that's a little weird.
• 27:30
SPEAKER_01: Um, while this scene in the kitchen was happening where they were, you know, like debriefing on the whole Eileen bullshit.
• 27:36
SPEAKER_01: Um, Nate takes like um a jar of like peanuts out of the cabinet, and they literally say on them, it's like mixed nuts with peanuts with less than 50% peanuts.
• 27:46
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, that's a fucking weird jar.
• 27:48
SPEAKER_01: But then we see David later on in that like kitchen scene and then talking about like the whole like Eileen thing.
• 27:54
SPEAKER_01: And David's like organizing the nuts.
• 27:57
SPEAKER_01: But then I like then I was thinking like in the scene, I'm like, but he can't organize like the nuts in his life sex actually problematically, you know what I mean.
• 28:08
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I think we're gonna have to put you wrote the notes this time and you organized them beautifully.
• 28:14
SPEAKER_02: You did a much better job than I always do.
• 28:16
SPEAKER_02: Um, but I feel like we need to publish them because they're fucking awesome.
• 28:21
SPEAKER_01: Oh, well, thank you so much.
• 28:23
SPEAKER_02: No, you're welcome so much.
• 28:25
SPEAKER_01: And so just going along with the rest of the scene, Nate tells David that sometimes he kind of feels like Nate Senior is around.
• 28:32
SPEAKER_01: And ask David if he ever feels that way.
• 28:35
  SPEAKER_01: David's response, a deadpan nope.
• 28:38
SPEAKER_02: I know, I thought that was so fucking strange.
• 28:42
SPEAKER_01: Like he had Dexter face on, you know what I mean?
• 28:45
SPEAKER_02: Yo, you really did, but I that really surprised me because I feel like David is really coming into his own so much more in this episode, and then at the end of last episode, the fact that Nate um confided in him, I was surprised that he said no.
• 29:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, you literally found out your brother's dying, and then he's like, I'm seeing dead people, are you?
• 29:14
  SPEAKER_01: Nope.
• 29:14
SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, like he literally the whole first season, that was whole like that was David's whole thing.
• 29:20
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but changing the subject, uh David actually mentioned something about the independent funeral director's luncheon and claims Nate is one of them now, too, and that Nate has to go.
• 29:32
SPEAKER_01: That sounds like this is around the time to actually it sounds so boring, but um, you remember when I was saying that David was organizing the nuts?
• 29:43
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 29:44
SPEAKER_01: While they're in the kitchen, Claire actually walks in and she says some like dumb shit about like David, we know that nobody likes the macadamia nuts or like something like that.
• 29:53
SPEAKER_02: And they have like like Claire and David and Nate have some like dumb like sibling banter about coffee making, bathroom hogging, genitalia, and pissing and well because she's like she's like, um, the first person who comes into the kitchen can make the coffee, or like it's polite, even if that person has a penis.
• 30:14
SPEAKER_02: And Nate's like, okay, well, the first person who gets into the shower shouldn't hog it for 45 minutes, even if they have a vulva.
• 30:21
SPEAKER_02: It's like, ew, Nate, ew.
• 30:23
SPEAKER_02: I can't believe you're only one bathroom in that house.
• 30:26
  SPEAKER_02: I know it's huge.
• 30:28
SPEAKER_02: The house is huge, and you only got one shower.
• 30:30
  SPEAKER_02: Come on.
• 30:32
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't believe it.
• 30:33
SPEAKER_02: But maybe maybe Ruth has one in her room.
• 30:36
SPEAKER_01: And like I'm speaking of Ruth.
• 30:38
SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, no, she she definitely has one in the mountain.
• 30:41
  SPEAKER_02: She doesn't mind.
• 30:42
SPEAKER_02: And and really, David lives like above the garage.
• 30:47
SPEAKER_02: So it's only Nate and Claire that have to share, I would think.
• 30:51
  SPEAKER_02: But I don't know.
• 30:52
SPEAKER_01: I would think that the above the garage situation has a bathroom.
• 30:55
SPEAKER_01: It has to I would think.
• 30:57
SPEAKER_02: Can you imagine he has to poopy every time he has to go back into the main house?
• 31:01
SPEAKER_02: Like, sorry, you have to poopy.
• 31:03
SPEAKER_01: Like holding his asshole running on his tip through.
• 31:06
SPEAKER_02: Okay, but and how do you have people over like for sex and there's no bathroom?
• 31:11
  SPEAKER_02: That won't work.
• 31:12
SPEAKER_02: Just no, that doesn't work.
• 31:15
  SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
• 31:17
SPEAKER_01: You gotta clean up your poopy shoot.
• 31:20
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, clean your poopy shoot.
• 31:26
SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying, it looks a dirty poopy shoot.
• 31:30
  SPEAKER_01: What?
• 31:30
  SPEAKER_01: No one likes that.
• 31:32
SPEAKER_01: No, I said that's something that I would like to tell Tito.
• 31:34
SPEAKER_01: We're trying to get like my my dog Tito, um, my boyfriend and I were trying to get him to understand like a certain phrase for like when it's time to go to the bathroom.
• 31:43
SPEAKER_01: So we keep saying pee-pee boom, pee-pee boom when it's bathroom time.
• 31:47
SPEAKER_01: And so he's getting like he starts putting the collar on him, which is like a struggle because he's had like abuse with that in the past, and so it it just reminds me of something that I would say to Tito, like, you want to go clean up the pee pee the poopy shoe?
• 31:59
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just I tell Estella, go pee-pee, and she knows.
• 32:04
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, but yeah, I mean, you gotta have a bathroom, like you wanna be able to like put your fingers and your tongue and your body parts in places, and they have to, you know, you want you prefer them.
• 32:18
SPEAKER_02: Um I prefer them clean, you know, on both ends.
• 32:22
SPEAKER_01: Anybody would prefer them clean, yeah.
• 32:25
SPEAKER_02: Right, so like you need a bathroom.
• 32:27
  SPEAKER_02: Okay, anyway.
• 32:28
SPEAKER_01: We don't think David was thinking about that in season one when he was fucking that fucking prostitute in the parking lot.
• 32:34
SPEAKER_01: I don't think they were thinking of cleaning up the poopy chute.
• 32:36
SPEAKER_02: No, ew, no, fucking prostitutes in the garage.
• 32:41
SPEAKER_01: Speaking of prostitutes, Ruth walks in.
• 32:44
  SPEAKER_01: No, I'm kidding.
• 32:45
SPEAKER_01: No, but but Ruth strolls in the kitchen.
• 32:51
SPEAKER_02: I almost spit my white claw out.
• 32:53
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 32:54
SPEAKER_01: That's the second time today.
• 32:56
  SPEAKER_01: Anyway, anyway.
• 32:57
SPEAKER_01: Um, Ruth strolls in, and then we finally like have like the whole family in the same room at the same time where it's not about like somebody else dying.
• 33:05
SPEAKER_01: And I feel like I can't remember the last time.
• 33:07
SPEAKER_01: All four of them were in the same room without like significant others or weird praying or anything like that.
• 33:14
SPEAKER_01: And so Ruth is looking uptight as fuck, and her hair is in a braid, and she's got a high-collared, long-length dress on, but she's wearing like light and bright colors, and I was thinking like it was like baby pink and baby blue, and I'm like, oh, maybe because she's optimistic about the success with the plan, you know, we learned about that already.
• 33:31
SPEAKER_02: I saw that in your notes, and I thought that that was a fucking amazing observation because I didn't catch that.
• 33:38
  SPEAKER_01: But you're right.
• 33:39
SPEAKER_01: Okay, I could be putting shit in my head, and I'm supposed to be the one that saw the show already, but like no, but sometimes she's don't you feel like she wears dark colors?
• 33:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like just very plain, prude, primary, yeah, basics.
• 33:57
SPEAKER_01: I feel like she wears a lot of like white, black, gray, brown, maybe like a dark purple or a dark.
• 34:02
SPEAKER_01: But like yes, but like very like very neutral colors, and all of a sudden she's showing up in like this um like gender reveal dress, pretty much.
• 34:14
SPEAKER_01: And so I was just like, Whoa, like that caught my eye.
• 34:17
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, if that's catching my eye, that means that like it was designed that way, and they want us to pay attention to Ruth.
• 34:24
SPEAKER_01: And actually, she's she's talking about the plan or whatever, and Claire cuts her off and she goes, Isn't that a cult?
• 34:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, Nate relates it to like some self-actualization course similar to like a 12-hour holding stuff.
• 34:36
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, because he's like, he's like, Oh, where you you can't you you're there for 12 hours and you can't use the bathroom, and then she's like, Should I bring a jar?
• 34:44
SPEAKER_02: But it's so stupid and so innocent, but then she's like, Well, I guess that wouldn't be much of a solution, and and it's not like us making a fucking joke, it's her actually thinking out loud, but for real.
• 35:00
SPEAKER_01: And if that was like her way of having humor, it was really funny with her delivery.
• 35:08
SPEAKER_01: But I really don't think it was supposed to be humorous on her part.
• 35:10
SPEAKER_01: Yes, it is funny, but like I think the way that she wanted her character to deliver it was in like more of like a serious like questioning tone.
• 35:18
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which was just actually really funny.
• 35:21
SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, should I bring a jar?
• 35:23
  SPEAKER_02: She settles on yogurt.
• 35:25
SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's gonna hold much, but okay.
• 35:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she leaves, she goes, she's like, I'll be back at midnight, and and Ruth leaves.
• 35:34
SPEAKER_01: And actually, finishing off David and Nate's scenes, just to talk about this very quickly, because it's very, very short.
• 35:41
SPEAKER_01: David and Nate actually do go to that independent funeral director luncheon or at like a diner or something, and they walk in, and you know, Nate says, like, I thought this was supposed to be an event, and then he just sees like three old men sitting in a beautiful sitting, and he goes, Oh, this is an event.
• 36:00
SPEAKER_01: And it turns out that like all these independent funeral directors hate Kroner, like what a surprise! And there was this ball man with the Bowtie and suspenders, we're gonna call him Mr.
• 36:10
  SPEAKER_01: Monopoly.
• 36:11
SPEAKER_01: Um, he he literally just says, like, he's sitting there and he's calling them like all the C words, and and then you know, at first he says like cocksucker, and then he looks at David, and then he goes, sorry, because this is con sufficient.
• 36:26
SPEAKER_02: I mean, okay, you know, that's a step, right?
• 36:30
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but what does he say next, Lisa?
• 36:34
SPEAKER_02: Oh, about the screw, yeah.
• 36:38
SPEAKER_02: I would ram a screw in my anus instead of giving in to them, no offense.
• 36:44
SPEAKER_02: He literally went to David and goes, no offense.
• 36:46
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I mean, but dicks and screws are different, so like none-taking, you know.
• 36:52
SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean, would you want to rub ram a screw up your vagina?
• 36:58
SPEAKER_02: No, no, right, no, but as the you know, the female population does use tampons, so you're not ramming a metal screw that's a it's a cotton tampon.
• 37:09
  SPEAKER_02: It's very different.
• 37:11
  SPEAKER_02: I stamped.
• 37:11
  SPEAKER_02: That is true, yeah.
• 37:13
SPEAKER_02: You know rampany one time.
• 37:16
SPEAKER_01: No, no, I don't want to ram the screw anywhere either.
• 37:18
SPEAKER_01: There was one time where I like was in a situation where the only tampon that was which I don't use tampons anymore for like almost 10 years now, actually.
• 37:26
SPEAKER_01: Um, where I had to use one with like a a cardboard applicator.
• 37:30
SPEAKER_01: What a fucking criminal you know mastermind that created like not even a mastermind.
• 37:36
SPEAKER_01: Who did that to society?
• 37:38
SPEAKER_02: I okay again, I'm apparently from the Stone Age.
• 37:42
SPEAKER_02: So the last box of tampons that I bought, I bought them for my kids, and I didn't realize what I bought, and then my daughter was like, Oh, good, you got the plastic ones, and I was like, Oh, I didn't even realize it.
• 37:56
SPEAKER_02: And she was like, Oh no, they're so much better.
• 37:59
SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Oh, okay.
• 38:01
SPEAKER_02: I was like, I don't, I said, I think when I started using tampons, I don't even think there was a such thing as a plastic, or like if there was, we definitely didn't have it.
• 38:09
SPEAKER_02: So to me, the cardboard ones are just normal, but they don't they don't bother me, but I'm just like the plastic ones.
• 38:20
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, this is too easy.
• 38:24
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, no.
• 38:25
SPEAKER_01: I remember I think it was like in high school, and like I went to the nurse when I needed tampon, and they only had like the cardboard ones, and I remember being like, I think I actually rather bleed through.
• 38:34
SPEAKER_01: You know, blood is normal.
• 38:35
SPEAKER_01: We all have blood, you know, like we all bleed down there sometimes, no matter who you are.
• 38:41
SPEAKER_01: So, like, yeah, like I was like, you can have yeah, no, we're not fucking doing this shit.
• 38:48
SPEAKER_01: Oh with the plastic, really it is definitely easier, yeah.
• 38:56
SPEAKER_01: And so going along with the independent funeral director luncheon, um, Nate actually like joins in on them like shitting on Croner, and Nate just like preaches to the choir, and David's just like calm down, yeah, being David.
• 39:10
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but they love it, they love it, yeah.
• 39:13
SPEAKER_01: Just like Ruth really loves the plan.
• 39:16
  SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
• 39:16
SPEAKER_02: Okay, so Ruth is at her cult conference.
• 39:20
SPEAKER_02: Uh she's in the valley with Robbie.
• 39:22
SPEAKER_02: Side note doesn't Robbie have any friends?
• 39:27
  unknown: Yes.
• 39:27
SPEAKER_02: I feel like ra Robbie is like a fabulous character because he's smart, he's witty, he has a job.
• 39:36
SPEAKER_02: I mean he he holds his life kind of private.
• 39:42
  SPEAKER_02: So you don't know, but I can't imagine that he's lonely.
• 39:48
SPEAKER_02: Like he just seems like he's pretty well adjusted.
• 39:51
SPEAKER_02: Like, why doesn't he have even if he's not seeing someone, but doesn't he have friends?
• 39:57
SPEAKER_01: But you know, he reminds me a lot of a character from the show.
• 40:02
SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you ever saw the episode The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
• 40:07
SPEAKER_01: It's with um the girl who played what's her name?
• 40:11
SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, like she was on the office.
• 40:13
SPEAKER_01: I forgot her name on the office, but there was a like I guess the character was supposed to be like in the box of like old game bitter or like older game bitter, and um the character's name was Titus, and it was literally that like fabulous, snappy, but like also lonely.
• 40:32
SPEAKER_01: And I feel like it may have been mom and girl for Robbie, you know, that's trivia for the next episode.
• 40:37
SPEAKER_01: I can look into that, but definitely a similar box of like a character.
• 40:44
SPEAKER_01: And if anybody ever saw the unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Robbie is literally a Titus.
• 40:49
SPEAKER_01: Or actually, Titus is literally Robbie, but yeah, Robbie's being a bitch, but like not really, and they're at the cult conference anyway.
• 40:56
SPEAKER_02: They're at the seminar, and we're getting a taste of the pure ridiculousness of it all.
• 41:02
SPEAKER_02: As the cult leader, Alma, openly tells a woman who was physically abused by her father, who set her on fire, to mend the relationship, to tear down the wall and rebuild.
• 41:14
SPEAKER_02: The best part is that the woman is like, uh she tells her, now what would you like, what would you say to your father?
• 41:21
  SPEAKER_02: And she's like, Hello.
• 41:25
SPEAKER_01: This poor fucking woman was so clueless.
• 41:29
SPEAKER_01: She called on the wrong volunteers.
• 41:31
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she's got scars on her face, and the father abused her, set her on fire because of a dream that he had.
• 41:42
SPEAKER_02: Not even because not that not that somebody deserves physical abuse, but it wasn't like she she did anything.
• 41:50
SPEAKER_02: He had a dream that she was with a man and set this bitch on fire because of his dream.
• 41:55
SPEAKER_02: I'm almost saying, like, yeah, manage your relationship.
• 41:58
SPEAKER_02: And finally, a woman in the audience called out for like stop blaming the victim.
• 42:03
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 42:04
SPEAKER_02: And like, granted, sometimes sometimes you have to offer forgiveness in order to not hold it in.
• 42:14
SPEAKER_02: But that doesn't mean you're inviting this man to be a part of your life.
• 42:18
SPEAKER_02: That could mean forgiveness could mean accepting what has been done and moving forward without bringing this man who fucking hurt you into your life.
• 42:35
  SPEAKER_02: Anyhow.
• 42:37
  SPEAKER_02: No victim blaming.
• 42:40
  SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
• 42:41
SPEAKER_02: And but but then she's like, I don't know.
• 42:45
  SPEAKER_02: I don't like Alma.
• 42:47
SPEAKER_02: Um Ruth doesn't raise her hand who you know, because Alma was like, Oh, do you think I'm being unfair?
• 42:55
SPEAKER_02: And fucking Alma's like picking on Ruth.
• 42:58
SPEAKER_02: And she's like that if you if you didn't hold up your hand, is it because you think that your opinion doesn't matter, or do you think I'm wrong, or whatever?
• 43:11
SPEAKER_02: And then she asks Ruth, are you a guest in your own house?
• 43:15
SPEAKER_02: And Robbie is like, yeah, she tiptoes because she's afraid to like wake people up.
• 43:22
SPEAKER_02: Fucking Robbie throwing her under the bus.
• 43:25
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 43:27
SPEAKER_01: Um, it was kind of weird, and while all this is going on, Claire's back at home actually waiting up for Ruth to get home from the plan, and she actually like starts to kind of worry about where Ruth is.
• 43:40
SPEAKER_01: And we learn that Ruth thinks the plan is actually horrible, but she's going back because she doesn't want to be rude.
• 43:46
SPEAKER_01: Ruth eventually comes home and talks to Claire.
• 43:48
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 43:49
SPEAKER_01: Uh Claire actually shows like an act of kindness to her mom, but Ruth thinks there's more to it.
• 43:53
SPEAKER_01: She's trying to and then apologizes for imposing her old blueprint on her.
• 43:59
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because Claire offers to make her a cup of tea, and Ruth is like, well, what did you break?
• 44:05
SPEAKER_02: Now, in fairness, Claire did kind of do something.
• 44:13
SPEAKER_01: And we'll get into that when we talk about Claire.
• 44:15
SPEAKER_02: At the same time, it's like, All right, Ruth, like take it down a notch.
• 44:21
SPEAKER_02: Cause she's still you know, she's still being open with you.
• 44:26
SPEAKER_02: I I was trying to figure out what movie Claire was watching.
• 44:30
SPEAKER_02: I don't know why, but it just seems so relevant.
• 44:34
SPEAKER_02: But I could not figure out what movie she was watching.
• 44:38
SPEAKER_02: Like it just seems so relevant to like her storyline.
• 44:42
SPEAKER_02: The fact that they kept sh because they kept showing the the TV.
• 44:46
SPEAKER_02: It wasn't like, oh, you just hear it in the background or it's in the background.
• 44:49
SPEAKER_02: It was like they kept showing it.
• 44:51
  SPEAKER_02: But I don't know.
• 44:52
SPEAKER_02: I have no idea what movie it was or what showed.
• 44:55
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I actually I made like a note, like um a note to myself to like go back and try to figure that out before we recorded.
• 45:02
SPEAKER_01: But that's actually something for our viewers to do.
• 45:05
SPEAKER_01: If anybody knows what movie that was, it would actually help us understand what's going on in this episode a little bit more.
• 45:12
SPEAKER_01: Even me, somebody who watched like pretty much the whole series.
• 45:15
SPEAKER_01: Um, I never looked into that and I actually don't want to Google it myself.
• 45:19
SPEAKER_01: I don't think you guys would definitely leave a comment somewhere.
• 45:22
SPEAKER_02: The only thing that came up really was like um the synopsis for this for this episode, and I couldn't find it.
• 45:30
SPEAKER_02: Like I even checked on like Wikipedia, like references to see if you know they had to like credit it.
• 45:36
SPEAKER_02: You know what I get into though?
• 45:38
SPEAKER_02: I didn't look at the credits on the episode itself.
• 45:40
SPEAKER_02: I wonder if it would have said anything.
• 45:42
  SPEAKER_01: You know what?
• 45:43
SPEAKER_01: They're probably gonna have to for licensing.
• 45:45
  SPEAKER_02: Maybe.
• 45:46
SPEAKER_01: Um like they probably had a license that scene or something, but anyway, yeah, no, um, whatever was happening in the movie did seem relevant to what was going on in Claire's.
• 45:55
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she was like so hyper focused on it.
• 45:58
SPEAKER_02: But um, so Ruth Ruth has to do her homework, she has to write a letter to her dead mom and then write a private letter to herself.
• 46:07
SPEAKER_02: Um so the next, I guess it's the next day, Ruth is back at the plan, and all this bitch wants is a fucking Snickers bar.
• 46:18
SPEAKER_02: They really should have like put her in one of the commercials.
• 46:21
  SPEAKER_01: Um It was great.
• 46:23
SPEAKER_01: They had like 20 minutes to like go off on their own and like you know, like read their little beatwater commandments.
• 46:30
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 46:30
SPEAKER_01: And Ruth just goes, like, Robbie's like, oh my god, only 20 minutes.
• 46:34
SPEAKER_01: We have so much work to do.
• 46:35
  SPEAKER_01: Ruth's like, I just need a Snickers bar.
• 46:38
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and Robbie's like, you need to call it.
• 46:42
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
• 46:44
SPEAKER_02: Um so while old Robbie would have thrown show shade at Ruth for her shitty time management.
• 46:51
SPEAKER_02: New Robbie suggests it's time to call her kids and helps Ruth begin to restructure her relationship with them, beginning with Claire.
• 46:59
SPEAKER_02: In a phone call to Claire, Ruth says everything she's been afraid to say.
• 47:03
SPEAKER_02: It wasn't even her voicemail.
• 47:06
SPEAKER_02: You know what she called?
• 47:07
  SPEAKER_02: Movie phone.
• 47:09
SPEAKER_02: Do you remember movie phone?
• 47:12
SPEAKER_02: You know what I remember movie phone?
• 47:14
SPEAKER_02: Because here we go, back to the stone age, and oh my god, and this is what we used to do.
• 47:20
SPEAKER_02: We used to have pagers, and even before pagers, we would have um like especially like with Val, and it would be like a certain time and for us to call, but the phone couldn't ring at like 10:30 at night.
• 47:39
SPEAKER_02: Like that was you know, there was no cell phones, no personal cell phones, it was just like one corded phone in your house.
• 47:46
SPEAKER_02: And so we would call movie phone at the time that we were waiting for the phone call, so that it would only do the call waiting.
• 47:56
SPEAKER_02: This way our parents couldn't hear the phone ring, and then we could call it.
• 48:00
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that's so smart.
• 48:01
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, we work geniuses.
• 48:04
SPEAKER_02: Wow, but that's I as soon as it started playing, I was like, oh my gosh, he called movie phone.
• 48:11
SPEAKER_01: Wasn't wasn't movie phone like something that Joey was doing in Friends too, like he had them the newspaper and he was like reading out the movies pretending to be movie phones, yeah.
• 48:21
SPEAKER_01: Was that a different show?
• 48:23
SPEAKER_02: No, it was it was friends, but I don't think it was movie phone, it was but it was like something like that, yeah.
• 48:28
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, watch when I go to bed tonight and I'll put on friends and it'll probably be that fucking episode.
• 48:33
  SPEAKER_01: Of course it will.
• 48:36
SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, that's so funny though.
• 48:38
SPEAKER_01: But like as viewers, we thought that she was calling Claire, and meanwhile, like Robbie walks away, and we hear that like wasn't calling call.
• 48:47
SPEAKER_02: Oh the old people like me will understand.
• 48:50
SPEAKER_02: The Gen Xers will understand.
• 48:53
  SPEAKER_01: Gen X.
• 48:54
SPEAKER_01: Um, when Ruth returns from her fake phone call, she's led into guiding like she's led into a guided meditation by like Alma that involves a joke she doesn't understand.
• 49:04
SPEAKER_01: And since Alma has a heart on for Ruth, she calls Ruth publicly when she doesn't laugh.
• 49:09
SPEAKER_01: Alma then demands Ruth to read aloud her private letter to herself, which Ruth like it sends her spiraling.
• 49:16
SPEAKER_01: Like that's kind of fucked up.
• 49:17
SPEAKER_01: And I know it's funny that I have that reaction because Ruth had that reaction.
• 49:22
SPEAKER_02: Right and and Ruth handled it pretty well.
• 49:25
SPEAKER_02: I mean, Alma read her letter, Robbie read her letter, and she's like, that's private.
• 49:32
  SPEAKER_00: Ruth, stand up.
• 49:37
SPEAKER_00: Tell me what you wrote in your private letter to yourself.
• 49:40
SPEAKER_00: It was a private letter to myself.
• 49:43
SPEAKER_00: Tell me where your house needs repair.
• 49:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and don't bother the lady okay.
• 49:50
SPEAKER_00: We have a very nice house and nice children and a nice job and a nice gentleman firm.
• 49:57
SPEAKER_00: Won't anyone just be happy?
• 50:03
SPEAKER_00: We don't believe the house is structurally so who knows better, me or a room full of complainers?
• 50:09
SPEAKER_00: What are you worried about to complain about?
• 50:11
SPEAKER_00: The fact that the blood stopped circulating in my rear room four hours ago.
• 50:16
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, what else?
• 50:18
SPEAKER_00: You want me to complain?
• 50:20
SPEAKER_00: All right, then fuck this.
• 50:23
  SPEAKER_00: Fuck you.
• 50:24
SPEAKER_00: Fuck all of you with your sibling self-clean.
• 50:27
SPEAKER_00: Fuck all your lousy toes.
• 50:29
SPEAKER_00: Fuck my lousy poems, all right?
• 50:31
SPEAKER_00: Fuck my selfish fucking little sister in your fucking voice.
• 50:34
  SPEAKER_00: Fuck my lovely blood.
• 50:36
SPEAKER_00: Fuck my daughter, and my lousy children with a lovely little drawing for not letting me have a floor.
• 50:50
  SPEAKER_00: You're so drawing.
• 51:01
SPEAKER_02: This is the best fucking scene in the whole episode.
• 51:07
SPEAKER_02: After that, Ruth, everyone is like, you know, congratulations.
• 51:13
SPEAKER_02: And Ruth has finally knocked down her walls of insecurity, anxiety, and grievance.
• 51:20
SPEAKER_02: So now she can begin to rebuild her life.
• 51:24
SPEAKER_02: This is like, sorry, but I see through that bitch because Alma is like Colt 101.
• 51:30
SPEAKER_02: Ruth is fed up and she's not gonna take it anymore.
• 51:33
SPEAKER_02: And instead of Alma being like, Yeah, you got me, Alma is like, Congratulations! Yes, you've just done it.
• 51:42
SPEAKER_02: You made it to level two.
• 51:45
SPEAKER_02: Like she Ruth, Ruth was about to get that hook out of her mouth, and Alma just reeled her right back in.
• 51:52
SPEAKER_02: But anyhow, um, afterwards, Ruth and Robbie are at the bar, and this, I'm sorry, but this is another great scene.
• 52:01
SPEAKER_02: Um they're talking about her breakthrough, and Robbie is just like, you don't have to thank me, but just change.
• 52:10
SPEAKER_02: And he asks her like what she's doing tomorrow, and she's like, none of your fucking business.
• 52:16
SPEAKER_02: But they look so cute.
• 52:18
SPEAKER_02: I mean, like, they're giggling and they're and Ruth just genuinely looks happy.
• 52:23
SPEAKER_02: And I feel like if this friendship works out, this is gonna be so good for her, you know.
• 52:28
SPEAKER_01: And I and I hope you know what it's really, really I really hope it does.
• 52:32
SPEAKER_01: Well, I know what happens, but like I was like, let's pretend I was a first-line viewer.
• 52:37
SPEAKER_01: I would really hope it does.
• 52:38
SPEAKER_01: I mean, did you see the way that they were laughing when they were like there were like two people from the planet hooking up in the like the bar or whatever?
• 52:44
SPEAKER_01: It was probably like the hotel lobby of wherever.
• 52:46
SPEAKER_02: Both of us fell off of our seat.
• 52:49
  SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean.
• 52:50
SPEAKER_01: They were laughing and she was falling off her seat, she was grabbing onto Robbie like friends too.
• 52:54
SPEAKER_01: It was adorable, it really was.
• 52:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so I feel like things for Root kind of ended on a positive note in this episode, but unfortunately, it wasn't like that for all of our characters.
• 53:07
SPEAKER_01: And so we're gonna enter Claire's story now.
• 53:10
  SPEAKER_02: Um Claire's story's sorry.
• 53:14
SPEAKER_01: Oh no, no, no, you want to explain Claire's story?
• 53:17
  SPEAKER_02: Um, I mean I can.
• 53:19
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 53:20
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 53:21
SPEAKER_02: So we see Claire coming into the Gary the Guidance Counselor's office, and she says, like, she's sorry she late, she's late, but a beaker exploded.
• 53:31
SPEAKER_02: He asks her if she's okay, and she's like, Yeah, I'm bored with myself.
• 53:36
SPEAKER_02: And then she turns the tables on him to ask him how his girlfriend is.
• 53:40
SPEAKER_02: I don't even understand why she knows about this shit.
• 53:43
SPEAKER_02: It seems very inappropriate, but anyhow, he answers, he's like, Yeah, she's fine.
• 53:48
SPEAKER_02: She does jewelry and blah blah blah, she has clients.
• 53:51
SPEAKER_02: But anyway, how's it going with Gabe?
• 53:54
SPEAKER_02: And Claire says that she hasn't talked to him in like two weeks.
• 53:59
SPEAKER_02: Claire basically just keeps uh getting off the conversation of herself and bringing up Jenny.
• 54:05
SPEAKER_02: Um, she says everything sucks and that it sucks to be in love with a guy who's too fucked up for life.
• 54:15
SPEAKER_02: So and then she tells Cl she tells and then she tells Gary that she thought that Gabe needed someone to care about him.
• 54:26
SPEAKER_02: But it's funny because he tells her that sometimes what did he say is like you can't sometimes you can't solve Oh, I have the quote.
• 54:37
SPEAKER_01: So Claire was saying that um, excuse me, I just lost my notes.
• 54:43
  SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
• 54:44
SPEAKER_01: Claire had said that it sucks to be in love with a guy who's too fucked up for life, you know?
• 54:49
SPEAKER_01: And Gary, the guidance counselor, says, but no one can ever solve someone else's life.
• 54:55
SPEAKER_01: And then Claire goes, so basically your job's totally pointless.
• 54:58
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and he's like, Yeah, except for guidance counselors.
• 55:01
SPEAKER_01: And honestly, that quick little like pass between Gary saying you can't solve someone else's life and Claire saying like your job is counselor's pointless.
• 55:10
SPEAKER_01: That was my quote that got me six feet under.
• 55:12
SPEAKER_01: I paused it, rewind it, and lost it.
• 55:15
  SPEAKER_01: It was really funny.
• 55:16
SPEAKER_01: It like just Claire's delivery was amazing, and then like Gary just being like, and I oop, like it was right, right, right.
• 55:23
  SPEAKER_01: It was really funny.
• 55:25
SPEAKER_02: Um, so Claire, Claire actually gets called back into the counselor's office a second time that day.
• 55:32
SPEAKER_02: And there's a detective waiting, Detective Reese, and immediately she asks where Gabriel Demas is, and Claire says she doesn't know, which is true.
• 55:43
SPEAKER_02: And she's already blindsided by Gary.
• 55:46
SPEAKER_02: And then the detective Reeves hits Claire with two more.
• 55:49
SPEAKER_02: Did you know he held up a convenience store with a gun?
• 55:52
  SPEAKER_02: Claire says no.
• 55:54
SPEAKER_02: And then they ask her if she sold him the embalming fluor, or you know, sold gave him the embalming fluid, and Claire's like, no, but maybe he got on the internet.
• 56:05
  SPEAKER_02: Like, aren't there catalogs?
• 56:07
SPEAKER_02: Oh, the internet in 2001.
• 56:10
SPEAKER_02: So Gary knows that he fucks up, he's fucked up his relationship with Claire, and Claire realizes that her game situation is a pretty bigger problem than she thought.
• 56:20
SPEAKER_02: Now, do you think that Gary called the detective or that the detective had already like been on to him?
• 56:34
SPEAKER_02: Some like some other way, and then they they came to look for her.
• 56:40
SPEAKER_01: It could have honestly gone both ways, but just based off of Claire's conversation with Gary on her first visit to the office that day, she literally said, like, I haven't seen him in two weeks.
• 56:52
  SPEAKER_02: Right.
• 56:52
SPEAKER_01: And then all of a sudden the cop shows up.
• 56:54
SPEAKER_01: If she said, like, I was talking to him yesterday and you can't tell anybody but, and then the cop showed up or the detective showed up, I mean, um, it would have been a little bit different, but she seemed pretty clueless.
• 57:04
SPEAKER_01: She didn't she seemed like honest when she said that she was she hadn't seen him, and I didn't pick up on any like body language that would rule out that she had been with him, was lying to the counselor.
• 57:16
SPEAKER_02: No, I don't think that she was lying about that, but I guess I was just confused because I know that they said that they sent the tape to the schools to try to get um him identified.
• 57:30
SPEAKER_02: So I didn't know if it was like somebody in the school identified him, and then the police came and were like, Okay, who's like who's he close to?
• 57:42
SPEAKER_02: And then the counselor was like, Oh, Claire.
• 57:46
SPEAKER_02: Or did the counselor call the police and say I know him, he's so and so, and I know who you can talk to.
• 57:58
SPEAKER_01: Um, it may have been a little bit of both, honestly.
• 58:01
SPEAKER_01: I think it was more of a first rather than a few.
• 58:04
SPEAKER_02: I mean, definitely he had some part in it because first of all, the exchange is taking place in his office, and everybody is aware that he's been counseling clear, like the viewers, everybody is in the viewers, so he definitely has some culpability in that sense.
• 58:28
SPEAKER_02: Sorry, there's like a weird guy walking by, but like he looked like he was like maybe it's your neighbor.
• 58:34
SPEAKER_02: No, I don't know, but anyway, no, this guy didn't have 47 cigarettes hanging out of his mouth.
• 58:40
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 58:42
SPEAKER_02: No, this guy was walking, not like lurching, but anyway.
• 58:46
SPEAKER_01: Um not sitting in the lawn chair, just staring at the Jesus.
• 58:50
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 58:51
SPEAKER_01: Um, anyway, so we later on see Claire in her bedroom, and this is actually correlates to the scene where Ruth was calling Claire in front of Robbie.
• 59:03
SPEAKER_01: Um, and in Claire's bedroom, we see that actually um Claire's like laying down on the floor.
• 59:10
SPEAKER_01: Claire's at home, she's demonstrating her right to be a sad 90s kid.
• 59:14
SPEAKER_01: She's got the shared carpet, she's got a shit ton of candles all lit, and she's like listening to like this alternative indie type music that I actually have something to say about.
• 59:23
SPEAKER_01: I actually looked up the song because I was like, wait, that's kind of like a dope song.
• 59:26
SPEAKER_01: I wonder who to buy.
• 59:26
SPEAKER_01: And the song that Claire was listening to in the scene is called You Were Right by Built to Phil, and it was off their um 1999 album called Keep It Like a Secret.
• 59:36
SPEAKER_01: I went to the album just to see like other songs that they have, and I noticed that the first track on the album is called The Plan.
• 59:44
SPEAKER_01: I wonder if I was like any kind of coincidence at all.
• 59:47
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's so funny.
• 59:49
  SPEAKER_01: Okay, right?
• 59:51
SPEAKER_01: I was just like, shit, that's really fucking cool.
• 59:54
SPEAKER_01: That is like literally the plan, just like this episode.
• 59:58
SPEAKER_01: So I thought that was really cool.
• 1:00:00
SPEAKER_01: Um, the album, by the way, I built this bill, keep it like a secret, was actually really good.
• 1:00:05
SPEAKER_01: It was a good listen.
• 1:00:06
SPEAKER_01: I was listening to it while I was doing the rest of the show notes.
• 1:00:09
SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, I like this.
• 1:00:10
SPEAKER_01: And then from there, I actually discovered that Gabe in real life has a band that's called Fred Alba.
• 1:00:16
SPEAKER_01: Um, it recently like changed its name actually, but I can't find their new music.
• 1:00:20
SPEAKER_01: But Fred Alba, but like Together Fred Alba.
• 1:00:24
SPEAKER_01: They only have one album, and I've just been listening to it nonstop just because it's not even like it's like amazing.
• 1:00:30
SPEAKER_01: It's just that once I find something, I just have to wear it out.
• 1:00:33
SPEAKER_01: So um that's something for you guys to look into too.
• 1:00:37
SPEAKER_01: Gabe's music is actually interesting.
• 1:00:40
SPEAKER_01: Um, but anyway, Claire's being said, 90s kid, and she hears the phone ring, and this is when we think that it's Ruth, but it's actually Gabe.
• 1:00:47
SPEAKER_01: Um, Gabe said he's fucked up, and when Claire asks where he's been, he keeps saying he fucked up, he fucked up, and to ask her to think about the near Woodland Hills, which Woodland Hills is known as like a really affluent neighborhood, but it's known as also just being like very like um like woodsy.
• 1:01:04
SPEAKER_01: So in Claire's car, we see her on the road, and all of a sudden we just see her face turn, and we see that she has like this face of like confusion and she kind of looks petrified as she looks around for Gabe.
• 1:01:17
SPEAKER_01: And then we see Gabe, and when he enters the car, he's looking passively erratic.
• 1:01:22
SPEAKER_01: And while calmly asking Claire to just start driving, he looks like a hot fucking mouse.
• 1:01:28
SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, but he really is passively erratic.
• 1:01:31
  SPEAKER_01: It's so weird.
• 1:01:32
SPEAKER_02: I I think I've rolled my eyes every single time when he gets in the car and she asks him, like, I forgot what she asks him, like, are you okay?
• 1:01:42
SPEAKER_02: Or how have you been?
• 1:01:44
SPEAKER_02: And he's like, Yeah, like you care.
• 1:01:45
  SPEAKER_02: Oh my fucking god.
• 1:01:48
SPEAKER_02: No, it was more like this, yeah, like you care, but we should start driving now.
• 1:01:52
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but like I fucking know people who do that shit, and I and I'm not trying to stereotype or whatever, but I feel like the people that I can name right now, I won't.
• 1:02:08
  SPEAKER_02: They're all fucking men.
• 1:02:09
SPEAKER_02: When you ask them something, and and it's like oh, like you can't don't fucking tell me what I care about.
• 1:02:15
  SPEAKER_02: If I didn't fucking care, I wouldn't have asked you.
• 1:02:17
SPEAKER_02: But I fucking hate that shit.
• 1:02:20
  SPEAKER_02: Sorry, ran over.
• 1:02:22
SPEAKER_01: No, it's really annoying, it's really passive, and it's just like I don't know, give me a couple of things.
• 1:02:28
  SPEAKER_01: Like, you're right, I don't care.
• 1:02:29
  SPEAKER_02: Get the fuck out.
• 1:02:30
SPEAKER_02: Like, she's like, I came out to the middle of nowhere, but like Claire, you don't have to explain yourself to him.
• 1:02:37
SPEAKER_01: No, and you know, she actually even asks him if he's like literally fucked up right now, like on drugs, and he's like, Of course I am.
• 1:02:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, obviously, but what is your first thing?
• 1:02:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Gabe acts to be taken to a place that pretty much has the equivalence of Lake and Park in um Maryland, like we've talked about in our past episodes.
• 1:02:57
SPEAKER_01: The place in the episode is actually called Angelus Crest.
• 1:03:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and Claire Gabe's on something.
• 1:03:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, she literally says, like, who goes there?
• 1:03:08
SPEAKER_01: That's literally where you dump bodies.
• 1:03:10
SPEAKER_01: And Claire then reveals to Gabe in the car that the cops know everything, and she says something about like a detective visiting me at school or whatever.
• 1:03:18
SPEAKER_01: And while Gabe's on his bender, um, he actually fires a gun at a man in the other car, just like we were saying in the summary.
• 1:03:25
SPEAKER_02: The guy pulls up next to them and he's like, Oh, do you drink you drink blood and oh you got a corpse in the front seat?
• 1:03:33
  SPEAKER_02: And Claire's.
• 1:03:36
SPEAKER_02: And Claire just rolls her eyes because I'm sure that this is not the first time that she's heard some fucking guy make a shit comment.
• 1:03:48
SPEAKER_02: Because I'm sorry, but if if you have uh female genitalia, I'm sure you've heard shit comments, shit unwanted shit comments from people.
• 1:03:58
SPEAKER_02: Claire is probably used to it.
• 1:04:01
SPEAKER_02: And Gabe is like, shut the fuck up, and then he pulls his gun and he shoots at the guy.
• 1:04:05
SPEAKER_02: Now I'm not saying that the guy is right for doing it, because the guy is a jerk.
• 1:04:11
SPEAKER_02: But Claire handled it in that situation just you know, normally, because the truth of the matter is you don't know and and Gabe is proof, you don't know what people have on them.
• 1:04:24
SPEAKER_02: So you don't engage because you don't know where that can end for you.
• 1:04:32
SPEAKER_02: And exactly Gabe pulls out a gun and fucking shoots, and then he's I think it looked like he stepped on the gas, right?
• 1:04:40
SPEAKER_02: Or did she gun it?
• 1:04:41
SPEAKER_02: Because it looked like Gabe did it.
• 1:04:44
SPEAKER_02: Because he was like go, go, go, and she looked scared.
• 1:04:48
SPEAKER_01: You know, it also looked like Gabe killed that man in the car.
• 1:04:53
SPEAKER_01: You just it looked like he shot him dead.
• 1:04:56
SPEAKER_02: You he shoots and then you see the guy go down, but like you don't there's no blood, there's no nothing, like so you don't even know what happened.
• 1:05:03
SPEAKER_01: No, it just it happened so fast though that like this isn't a show where things get really gruesome, so it's not like I expected like if the gun to hit the guy for like blood to explode because things like that haven't really happened in this episode.
• 1:05:17
SPEAKER_01: I mean, let's go back to season one, the guy fell in the fucking meat cutter, right?
• 1:05:20
SPEAKER_01: Or the bread cutter, the breadle mixer.
• 1:05:23
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly, and like we didn't see any of that.
• 1:05:27
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 1:05:28
SPEAKER_01: My point is like I I would expect if somebody got shot in the show to just go down and then you see like blood on their shirt after, and maybe like a wound if somebody rips open their shirt, but like nothing too.
• 1:05:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I see what you're saying, but I feel like the show definitely has like a view of like death as more of something the human body goes through and not like a gory like entertainment type thing, you know.
• 1:05:54
SPEAKER_02: But Gabe, yeah, so Gabe shoots at him, and at that moment you don't know what happened to the guy.
• 1:06:00
SPEAKER_02: I mean, they were literally just stopped next to each other, so it wasn't like it wasn't like it was a far distance or anything, but the gas gets hit.
• 1:06:11
SPEAKER_02: I don't know if Gabe hits it or Claire hits it or whatever.
• 1:06:15
SPEAKER_01: And and later on, they're like on a highway too, because Claire pulls over on the highway and she literally yells at like Gabe.
• 1:06:22
  SPEAKER_01: She's like, I can't help you, I can't help you anymore.
• 1:06:25
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and she's like we have to go back.
• 1:06:27
SPEAKER_02: We have to we have to see if he's okay.
• 1:06:29
SPEAKER_02: And Gabe is like, No, no, no.
• 1:06:31
SPEAKER_02: And but he yeah, he puts the gun down in the car and she picks it up.
• 1:06:36
SPEAKER_02: And now Gabe's like, Oh, blah blah blah.
• 1:06:40
SPEAKER_02: Like I I forgot what he says.
• 1:06:42
SPEAKER_02: This is another thing that made me roll my eyes, and he's like, Why you gotta be like that?
• 1:06:47
SPEAKER_02: So and she's like, No, you have to get out.
• 1:06:49
SPEAKER_02: He thinks, he grabs her cell phone, he's like, I'm gonna grab my bag, and he gets out of the car and runs away.
• 1:06:56
SPEAKER_02: But like, he made he's like, Why are you doing this to me?
• 1:06:59
  SPEAKER_02: What the actual fuck?
• 1:07:03
SPEAKER_02: Why are you doing this to her?
• 1:07:07
SPEAKER_01: You are doing this to her and he's like, I'm fucked.
• 1:07:09
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're doing it to yourself and to her.
• 1:07:12
SPEAKER_02: She ain't doing nothing fucking to you.
• 1:07:14
SPEAKER_02: She's protecting herself as she should be, and she came a lot further on this ride than I think other people would have.
• 1:07:22
SPEAKER_02: Okay, so fuck you, Gabe.
• 1:07:25
SPEAKER_02: Fuck you, right in the ass.
• 1:07:27
SPEAKER_02: Is that wrong to say?
• 1:07:28
SPEAKER_01: Screw with a screw, no offense.
• 1:07:34
SPEAKER_02: Rama screw right up your ass.
• 1:07:36
SPEAKER_01: And unfortunately, that's all that we see of Claire and especially Gabe in this episode.
• 1:07:41
SPEAKER_01: That's the end of their story in this episode.
• 1:07:44
SPEAKER_01: And we well, that's the end of Gabe and Claire.
• 1:07:46
  SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean.
• 1:07:48
SPEAKER_01: After after this, all we have to talk about is Nate, Brenda, and David and their stories.
• 1:07:56
  SPEAKER_02: A little bit more.
• 1:07:58
SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, we get a little bit more from Claire, but that's at the end.
• 1:08:01
  SPEAKER_02: That's true.
• 1:08:02
SPEAKER_02: While David and Nate's stories intertwine in this episode, we see Nate at Brenda's having a slutty conversation about biogenetics.
• 1:08:13
SPEAKER_02: We learn that Brenda is not officially going back to school, but she's gonna take one class.
• 1:08:19
  SPEAKER_02: Nate.
• 1:08:19
SPEAKER_02: As Brenda's looking through the like course election, Nate is trying to like fuck around.
• 1:08:26
  SPEAKER_02: But guess what?
• 1:08:26
SPEAKER_02: He found out, and Brenda rejects him, and Nate's been counting the days of how long it's been.
• 1:08:34
SPEAKER_02: Brenda says that it's normal.
• 1:08:35
SPEAKER_02: First of all, she was also in the middle of something, but anyway.
• 1:08:38
SPEAKER_02: Uh Brenda says that it's normal after a certain point for the sex to slow down, and Nate thinks otherwise.
• 1:08:46
SPEAKER_02: But the thing that got me is that when Brenda was like, you know, oh, it's it's been six months, it's a normal ebb and flow relationship.
• 1:08:55
SPEAKER_02: But she said, Oh, there's gonna be times when you're not attracted to me.
• 1:08:58
SPEAKER_02: And I was like, ooh, that's that's kind of harsh, though.
• 1:09:01
SPEAKER_02: It's one thing to say, oh, like the ebb and flow, like I'm not into it, I'm not in the mood or whatever, but like I'm not attracted to you.
• 1:09:08
SPEAKER_02: And Nate didn't even say anything, which I thought was weird.
• 1:09:11
SPEAKER_01: I mean, she didn't necessarily say, like, there did she say that there's not gonna be attracted to you?
• 1:09:17
SPEAKER_02: She said there's gonna be a times where you're not attracted to me.
• 1:09:20
SPEAKER_01: As in, like, yeah, but you know she was projecting when she said that.
• 1:09:23
SPEAKER_02: Right, as in like she this is a time when she's not attracted to him, like weird.
• 1:09:29
SPEAKER_01: Um anyway, we take a break from Nate and Brenda, and we actually see Nate in the basement of the Fisher home with Rico's candy as bitch problems.
• 1:09:41
SPEAKER_01: Nate and Rico are preparing for Michael for his viewing, and when Nate points out to Rico that he forgot to close the body's mouth, something so obvious to do for viewing, something he blames on the lack of sleep he got.
• 1:09:54
SPEAKER_01: It turns out that Rico's bitching about not getting any sleep because Angie, Vanessa's sister, the one that's lending the money for the house.
• 1:10:00
SPEAKER_01: We know that Nate doesn't.
• 1:10:01
SPEAKER_01: She walked out on her boyfriend and came over to wail in their living room all night long.
• 1:10:05
SPEAKER_01: Rico's all pissed that Angie's staying at his house for a bit because he thinks that she has a right to now.
• 1:10:11
SPEAKER_01: And then when he goes to explain what he means by that, he stops because he realizes that he was accidentally gonna tell Nate that he got the house money from Angie.
• 1:10:19
SPEAKER_01: Remember he extra that$11,000 loan from Nate and David last episode?
• 1:10:23
SPEAKER_01: Like, bitch, what the fuck are you on to ask your bosses for money like that?
• 1:10:28
  SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
• 1:10:29
SPEAKER_01: And the craziest part is that instead of like Nate being like, Yeah, I can't believe you literally asked me for a big fat loan, he apologizes to Rico that he wasn't able to give him the loan.
• 1:10:40
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:10:41
SPEAKER_01: And then sad Nate asks Rico how many times he fucks a week.
• 1:10:47
SPEAKER_02: Did you think that Rico was lying?
• 1:10:49
SPEAKER_01: I feel like he was lying.
• 1:10:50
  SPEAKER_01: This was Rico's answer.
• 1:10:52
SPEAKER_01: He goes, you know, Vanessa, since having the baby, she has like the hormones and they're the wrong hormones.
• 1:10:57
  SPEAKER_02: Only no bitch.
• 1:10:59
SPEAKER_02: She's got exactly the hormones that she needed after growing and birthing a baby.
• 1:11:06
SPEAKER_01: Not that they not that they are wrong, period, but I guess he meant the wrong hormones as none like the high libido hormones.
• 1:11:12
SPEAKER_01: But I think that's what he meant.
• 1:11:13
SPEAKER_01: He wasn't saying like they were like wrong in his opinion.
• 1:11:15
SPEAKER_01: He was saying that they're like not the ones for like sexy.
• 1:11:18
SPEAKER_02: No, I think I yeah, I took it to mean like that they got the he got the wrong ones, that she has the wrong ones, like in terms of what he needs.
• 1:11:26
SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't I wouldn't put it behind Rico to say that honestly.
• 1:11:29
  SPEAKER_01: I really don't like him.
• 1:11:31
SPEAKER_01: But he said that he's only been fucking three to four times a week, yeah, and that's not a good thing because it's not as often.
• 1:11:38
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, it slows down a little.
• 1:11:40
SPEAKER_02: We got two kids, and Nate's like, oh yeah, yeah, sorry.
• 1:11:44
  SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah.
• 1:11:45
  SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
• 1:11:45
SPEAKER_01: Maybe maybe I'm just like stressed, and maybe I'm just like tired all the time, but like, I don't know, it sounds like Vanessa's a fucking sex doll or something.
• 1:11:55
SPEAKER_01: Like, who has a kid and then fucks three to four times a week?
• 1:12:00
SPEAKER_01: And has your second kid?
• 1:12:02
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, look, sometimes, and then sometimes there's weeks where it's not like that, but I don't know.
• 1:12:09
  SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't live in a TV show, so what do I know?
• 1:12:12
SPEAKER_02: Oh, you know what we forgot before all of this, um, in the earlier part of the day, when David and Nate are talking, Nate goes into the office, and this is like early in the morning before the lady even comes in to do her casket buffet.
• 1:12:32
SPEAKER_02: Nate, uh David is printing stuff, and and Nate is like, oh, you're printing from like manslux.com.
• 1:12:39
SPEAKER_02: But actually, what he's printing was information on ABM.
• 1:12:43
SPEAKER_02: And David is like, we need to, you know, talk about it, and you know, we need to figure this out because you know, you can you can die at any minute from this.
• 1:12:53
SPEAKER_02: And this is where Nate makes the comment.
• 1:12:56
SPEAKER_02: Because yeah, David says something like that this could make you die at any minute.
• 1:13:02
SPEAKER_02: And and Nate is like, yeah, or I could be on the wrong plane.
• 1:13:06
SPEAKER_02: And so to that's what I took as like a 911 reference because I didn't think he meant it as a joke.
• 1:13:14
SPEAKER_02: I just thought he meant it as like shit happens.
• 1:13:18
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I see what you mean.
• 1:13:19
SPEAKER_02: You know, you you know, maybe maybe he meant it as or you can interpret it as simply as like a plane crash, or you can interpret it as in something bigger, like being on the wrong plane.
• 1:13:35
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, shit.
• 1:13:37
SPEAKER_02: Well because David just looks at him like like okay, whatever, you know.
• 1:13:42
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it's not worth adding anything else to that conversation.
• 1:13:48
  SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
• 1:13:49
SPEAKER_01: Well, at least I guess it was there was some type of relevance for people watching the show when it aired.
• 1:13:56
SPEAKER_01: Not not that the show's not relevant or anything, and I guess they I don't know what I'm trying to say, actually.
• 1:14:03
  SPEAKER_02: Well, I guess it's a line, right?
• 1:14:05
SPEAKER_02: Like a weird line between do you acknowledge, do you not acknowledge, do acknowledge?
• 1:14:10
SPEAKER_02: If you do acknowledge, do you acknowledge too much?
• 1:14:13
  SPEAKER_02: Where's where's the balance, you know?
• 1:14:17
SPEAKER_02: And if you don't acknowledge, is that insensitive?
• 1:14:20
SPEAKER_02: If you do acknowledge, is that insensitive?
• 1:14:22
  SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
• 1:14:24
SPEAKER_01: You know, especially a show being all about death, you know what I mean?
• 1:14:29
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 1:14:29
SPEAKER_01: So I I guess if they like, if they were like, as the writers, they were like, hey, like this giant fucking thing happened in our country, that this terrorist attack happened, thousands of people died, and it made a big hole in our country.
• 1:14:44
SPEAKER_01: Like, we should reference this somehow, especially being that like we were filming this while it probably happened.
• 1:14:53
SPEAKER_01: So I guess that's like an indirect way of being like, hey, we acknowledge this happened and it's really fucked.
• 1:14:59
SPEAKER_01: So in we then see Nate actually go to the viewing room, and this is when Michael's body body's actually prepared, and Nate's looking over Michael's body, and Nate Singer pops up and he starts talking to him.
• 1:15:14
SPEAKER_01: As Nate Singer's giving Nate the options of life and afterlife.
• 1:15:19
SPEAKER_01: I leave that's in the conversation of Nate and Nate Singer, and all of a sudden you're like, oh wait, yeah, she's like quote unquote psychic.
• 1:15:28
SPEAKER_01: But then again, it was in her conversation to butt into.
• 1:15:31
SPEAKER_01: It's just so funny because we think that it's just like an imagination.
• 1:15:35
SPEAKER_01: Maybe it actually is a ghost.
• 1:15:36
  SPEAKER_01: Like, what?
• 1:15:38
SPEAKER_02: I mean, who knows, right?
• 1:15:41
  SPEAKER_02: We don't really know.
• 1:15:42
  SPEAKER_01: Who does know?
• 1:15:43
  SPEAKER_01: Apparently, Eileen does.
• 1:15:44
SPEAKER_01: And Eileen says that Michael's still hanging around, and she, you know, she has to get used to life without him, and that's why he's hanging around to help her transition into life without him being there.
• 1:15:55
SPEAKER_01: And Nate asks if Eileen senses his father in the room.
• 1:15:58
SPEAKER_01: And as Nate Singer's standing literally behind the casket, and you see Eileen's like eyes like pan throughout the whole room because we get like that view from like her point of view.
• 1:16:09
SPEAKER_01: She says that she can't really get a feel in the whole room because it's too crowded.
• 1:16:14
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, or that she states the room is packed.
• 1:16:17
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean that's such a cop out against her.
• 1:16:22
SPEAKER_01: It is, but instead of saying, like, yeah, I see your father, she says something else.
• 1:16:26
SPEAKER_01: She says that she sees a child coming into his life, but she says that as David and Rico are walking in with Augusta, yeah.
• 1:16:35
SPEAKER_01: So as a child coming into his life.
• 1:16:38
  SPEAKER_02: I know.
• 1:16:39
SPEAKER_02: I mean, are we supposed to take that as like fluke or oh wait, you know, oh look, she called it, but I mean, I don't know.
• 1:16:49
SPEAKER_02: I guess it's just one of those things where you just don't know.
• 1:16:53
SPEAKER_01: You just don't, not as the viewer, right?
• 1:16:56
SPEAKER_01: One thing really, really thing to note, actually, about Rico walking into the scene with David is that Nate introduces Rico to Eileen as the embalmer.
• 1:17:09
SPEAKER_01: And I don't at least I don't know if you remember, but last season we were kind of struggling to talk about like what Rico and David's job is, like what their job title is.
• 1:17:18
SPEAKER_01: And he just calls him the embalmer.
• 1:17:21
  SPEAKER_01: I know.
• 1:17:22
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right?
• 1:17:23
SPEAKER_02: Like I feel like that was I don't know if it was like a dig or like I'm not I'm not up to date on my funeral home lingo, but it just seemed like oh my gosh, why don't I have words like cutting him short, you know?
• 1:17:39
  SPEAKER_02: Like selling him short.
• 1:17:41
SPEAKER_02: Because obviously Rico is very talented at his job, but I don't know.
• 1:17:46
SPEAKER_02: It just it just seemed like he does so much more than that.
• 1:17:49
SPEAKER_02: That calling him the embalmer seemed to be less than, but I don't know.
• 1:17:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was definitely downgrading what Rico could do, and even though he's a piece of shit person, he has a talent, a talent that even Croner could save.
• 1:18:04
SPEAKER_01: That's why they snagged him during the first season.
• 1:18:07
  SPEAKER_02: Right.
• 1:18:09
SPEAKER_01: And so actually during Michael's service, Nate's in the forefront of the scene as he listens to what the speaker is saying.
• 1:18:16
SPEAKER_01: Um, the speaker's actually reading like a line from like a famous column, and he's reading like the end of the poem.
• 1:18:21
SPEAKER_01: And Eileen is beginning her coping as Nate and Nate Sr.
• 1:18:25
  SPEAKER_01: talk.
• 1:18:25
  SPEAKER_01: Nate Sr.
• 1:18:26
SPEAKER_01: claims he's hanging around to have Nate get used to it and reminds Nate that he's gone seven months and that he's not counting.
• 1:18:35
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:18:35
SPEAKER_01: Almost like a callback to the comments of Brenda.
• 1:18:38
  SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
• 1:18:38
SPEAKER_01: Almost like the comment that Nate made meant to Brenda in the beginning.
• 1:18:43
SPEAKER_01: That he made to Brenda in the beginning.
• 1:18:46
SPEAKER_01: The orange creamsicle setting, I'm sorry.
• 1:18:49
SPEAKER_01: And so and so Nate opens the door.
• 1:18:52
SPEAKER_02: And I've I've only had the white claw, I'm not enhanced tonight.
• 1:18:56
SPEAKER_02: So I know no, you're not you're not enhanced.
• 1:18:59
SPEAKER_02: There's not even any kids here tonight, but I should be like a fucking sloppy mess, and I'm not, but okay, anyway.
• 1:19:08
SPEAKER_01: Maybe at two o'clock on Friday you could be that way.
• 1:19:12
SPEAKER_01: Or you work from home, you can do whatever the fuck you want.
• 1:19:17
SPEAKER_01: But as the service is ending, Nate opens the doors for everyone to leave when Claire tries to have a conversation with Nate, most likely about Gabe.
• 1:19:25
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 1:19:25
SPEAKER_01: And David actually interjects, cutting Claire off, and David goes, Mr.
• 1:19:31
  SPEAKER_01: Monopoly sold to Croner.
• 1:19:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and Nate goes my Mr.
• 1:19:35
  SPEAKER_01: Monopoly.
• 1:19:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we found we found out heroes named Bobo, but I'm still gonna call him Mr.
• 1:19:39
  SPEAKER_02: Monopoly.
• 1:19:41
SPEAKER_01: And he goes, My Bobo?
• 1:19:43
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yours name.
• 1:19:44
SPEAKER_01: And it's just funny because he was he was just shit talking so hard, Croner, at the independent funeral director luncheon.
• 1:19:52
  SPEAKER_02: Mitzi got to him.
• 1:19:54
  SPEAKER_02: Brenda goes to school.
• 1:19:55
SPEAKER_01: Speaking of bitches like Mitzi.
• 1:19:57
SPEAKER_01: Yes, Brenda goes to school.
• 1:20:00
  SPEAKER_02: Brenda in class.
• 1:20:02
SPEAKER_02: She's in class and the teacher is speaking basically right to her.
• 1:20:08
SPEAKER_02: But they're talking about the book that the teeth they're discussing the book that the teacher wrote.
• 1:20:14
SPEAKER_01: Brenda says that the teacher wrote.
• 1:20:17
  SPEAKER_02: Right.
• 1:20:17
SPEAKER_02: And Brenda says, isn't natural selection still operating because privilege is biologically determined.
• 1:20:26
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:20:26
SPEAKER_02: So the subject is about, you know, all that.
• 1:20:29
SPEAKER_02: Actually, I don't even remember the cut.
• 1:20:32
SPEAKER_01: Um I think honestly, I think Brenda was trying to say that like privilege is biologically determined in a relation to race.
• 1:20:40
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, no, no.
• 1:20:41
SPEAKER_02: I agree with like what she said.
• 1:20:43
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:20:44
SPEAKER_01: But the thing is, is that they were having a conversation specifically about what the professor said and the professor's opinions.
• 1:20:51
SPEAKER_01: And so honestly, it seems like Brenda didn't pay attention and it shows, but in reality, Brenda just had an opinion.
• 1:20:58
SPEAKER_01: She was just challenging what the professor was saying, and I don't believe she was wrong, but that's my opinion.
• 1:21:03
  SPEAKER_02: Right.
• 1:21:03
SPEAKER_02: Well, because she makes a good point, right?
• 1:21:05
SPEAKER_02: Like natural selection is unfair when what did she say?
• 1:21:10
SPEAKER_02: Like when you're born with healthcare and like middle class or some shit like that.
• 1:21:16
  SPEAKER_02: And it's true.
• 1:21:17
  SPEAKER_02: It's a hundred percent true.
• 1:21:19
SPEAKER_02: You're not fighting, you know, you're not playing the same game.
• 1:21:22
SPEAKER_02: So it's hard, it's hard to say that we all have the same advantage when we don't, because it's not just biology at that point.
• 1:21:30
SPEAKER_02: Uh but anyway, so she didn't read the book, but gets called out for her.
• 1:21:35
SPEAKER_02: And Brenda's like, oh, so basically we all have to agree with you, like we can't have our own opinions.
• 1:21:42
SPEAKER_02: And then she leaves the class like a little bit.
• 1:21:45
SPEAKER_02: After that, she goes, I feel like Brenda's just used to being like the smartest one in the room.
• 1:21:54
SPEAKER_02: And all of a sudden now it wasn't like, oh wow, like Brenda.
• 1:21:59
  SPEAKER_02: It was no.
• 1:22:01
SPEAKER_02: And also this woman is okay.
• 1:22:05
SPEAKER_02: So I feel like compounding off of the last episode where she was with Trevor, and I believe her name was Dawn.
• 1:22:16
SPEAKER_02: And she's kind of comparing herself to them.
• 1:22:19
SPEAKER_02: And like, look at what Trevor has done.
• 1:22:21
SPEAKER_02: Look at what this woman has done.
• 1:22:23
SPEAKER_02: She wrote a book, she's she won whatever prize.
• 1:22:27
SPEAKER_02: And so now she comes to this class, and the lady doesn't look like she's that much older than Brenda.
• 1:22:34
SPEAKER_02: And she's also obviously a published author.
• 1:22:37
SPEAKER_02: She's teaching, she has all these students kind of eating out of her hand.
• 1:22:43
SPEAKER_02: And here's Brenda who's taking the class and having her opinions not validated.
• 1:22:50
SPEAKER_02: And I feel like that's why it all hit Brenda harder.
• 1:22:54
SPEAKER_02: You know, like yeah, she's acting like a little fucking spoiled brat, but I think that it's it's a lot more than just her, you know, like then than that one little opinion that she tried to share.
• 1:23:05
SPEAKER_01: It was the fact that Brenda, for the first time, didn't have everybody listening to her because of who she was in this class.
• 1:23:13
SPEAKER_01: People didn't necessarily know who she was.
• 1:23:16
SPEAKER_01: They didn't necessarily know Charlotte Light and Dark.
• 1:23:19
  SPEAKER_01: They didn't know everything.
• 1:23:21
SPEAKER_01: And so she wasn't looked at as like a person with a valid opinion because she's a genius.
• 1:23:28
SPEAKER_01: They were just looking at her as like a student in a community college or an adult-styled college, which it's just a voluntary thing that you do.
• 1:23:38
SPEAKER_01: It was something that everybody could do.
• 1:23:40
  SPEAKER_01: That's my point.
• 1:23:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not downgrading it.
• 1:23:42
SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying it's something that everybody could do.
• 1:23:45
SPEAKER_01: Doesn't matter who you are, it's not something that you earn to be there for.
• 1:23:48
SPEAKER_01: You signed up for the class and that's it, and you pay, and that's it.
• 1:23:52
  SPEAKER_02: Right.
• 1:23:52
SPEAKER_02: And I mean, maybe give it more than like 15 minutes.
• 1:23:56
  SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
• 1:23:57
SPEAKER_01: And so that's the thing.
• 1:23:58
SPEAKER_01: Brenda goes up and she leaves, and we actually see her after class.
• 1:24:03
SPEAKER_01: She's having a little pity party for herself at a bar.
• 1:24:06
SPEAKER_01: She's drinking straight up brown liquor and just, you know, like not even like a glass of wine after class.
• 1:24:12
  SPEAKER_01: She's just like, I'm angry.
• 1:24:14
  SPEAKER_01: Let's get drunk.
• 1:24:15
SPEAKER_01: And obviously, she's probably having like whiskey or something like that.
• 1:24:17
SPEAKER_01: And she starts striking up the conversation with strangers.
• 1:24:20
SPEAKER_01: She meets this guy named Scott at the bar and introduces herself.
• 1:24:24
  SPEAKER_02: I love him.
• 1:24:25
  SPEAKER_02: Grand Show.
• 1:24:27
SPEAKER_02: Remember back in the Stone Age?
• 1:24:29
SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, there was a show called Melrose Place.
• 1:24:32
  SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you've heard of it.
• 1:24:33
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, I have.
• 1:24:34
SPEAKER_01: I just never watched it.
• 1:24:35
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he was on it.
• 1:24:37
  SPEAKER_01: That's interesting.
• 1:24:38
  SPEAKER_01: So he's cute.
• 1:24:40
  SPEAKER_01: Okay, Mr.
• 1:24:40
  SPEAKER_01: Melrose.
• 1:24:42
  SPEAKER_02: Scott.
• 1:24:43
SPEAKER_01: What was his name in the show?
• 1:24:44
SPEAKER_02: In this show, it was um Scott.
• 1:24:47
SPEAKER_02: In there, I I want to say Jake, but but I could be misremembering because it's been like a hundred years.
• 1:24:54
  SPEAKER_02: But I think a thousand.
• 1:24:56
SPEAKER_01: It was the stone age.
• 1:24:58
SPEAKER_01: It was the stone age.
• 1:24:59
SPEAKER_01: While you're looking it up, Brenda introduces herself as a woman named Candace Bouvard, a teacher of sign language to the newly deaf.
• 1:25:07
SPEAKER_01: And she does this because she's enjoying communication.
• 1:25:11
SPEAKER_01: Or she, I'm sorry, she said that she's a teacher of sign language to the newly deaf because she enjoys communicating with her body.
• 1:25:19
SPEAKER_01: She says that really sensually, too.
• 1:25:21
SPEAKER_01: And the guy is like clearly picking up what she's dropping, and he's doing it without any kind of poker face.
• 1:25:27
SPEAKER_01: You know, like the line is hitting him because he's like, ah, and on his face, it's almost as if his face is saying, ah, sex.
• 1:25:34
SPEAKER_01: And like it was really funny.
• 1:25:35
SPEAKER_01: And so Scott gives Brenda his number.
• 1:25:38
  SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
• 1:25:39
SPEAKER_01: Yes, Scott gives Brenda his number.
• 1:25:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he's like, Can I give you my number?
• 1:25:43
  SPEAKER_02: And she's like, sure.
• 1:25:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and as she seductively takes it from his hands, Nate walks in, and Nate and Brenda embrace.
• 1:25:51
SPEAKER_01: And then the guy, like, see Scott sees it, and then he's like, whatever.
• 1:25:56
SPEAKER_02: And yes, his name um on Melrose Place was Jake.
• 1:26:01
SPEAKER_01: And so while Nate and Brenda are having dinner, good job for the memory, by the way.
• 1:26:07
SPEAKER_01: While they're having dinner at the same restaurant where the bar is, Brenda's trying to explain to Nate like how her day at school was, and she says, one of my favorite lines, besides, you know, like the Claire Gary situation.
• 1:26:19
SPEAKER_01: This would be my second quote that has me six feet under it.
• 1:26:22
SPEAKER_01: She says, Academia is one huge circle jerk.
• 1:26:25
  unknown: Yeah.
• 1:26:26
SPEAKER_01: And it was just the I don't know, like her delivery on things sometimes is just so great.
• 1:26:32
  SPEAKER_02: She is really good.
• 1:26:33
SPEAKER_01: She just literally quit school.
• 1:26:35
  SPEAKER_01: She is.
• 1:26:36
SPEAKER_01: I was actually looking into the other stuff that she's been in.
• 1:26:39
SPEAKER_01: She was in something else that was like pretty big too.
• 1:26:41
SPEAKER_01: I just forgot what it was called.
• 1:26:44
SPEAKER_01: I remember being like, oh shit, that was her.
• 1:26:46
SPEAKER_01: I forgot what it was now.
• 1:26:48
SPEAKER_01: But she, yeah, she literally quit school after a death.
• 1:26:50
SPEAKER_01: And as Nate's trying to have some spirituality and have a conversation about like life after death, she was having him with Nate Singer.
• 1:26:56
SPEAKER_01: Brenda's just being very matter-of-fact with physics.
• 1:26:59
SPEAKER_01: And Brenda says that life has no plan, it's all survival.
• 1:27:04
SPEAKER_01: As a theory eye, Brenda explains why she's so negative, but has like that logically and sound view of life.
• 1:27:11
SPEAKER_01: Nate asks her how she could live like that, and Brenda replies, I thought we all did.
• 1:27:16
SPEAKER_01: And she was saying how she had this view of life after when she was six years old, and she was she read some article about like the Korean Wars and shit.
• 1:27:25
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, something about like the nukes, and it I don't know, this is really fucking depressing.
• 1:27:31
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she said she read an article when she was like six or nine, or like a very young age, elementary school age, about how it was six, right?
• 1:27:38
  SPEAKER_01: Six, yeah.
• 1:27:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, about how nukes that like whatever country was in war at whatever time had nukes and they were ready to be set off at any single moment.
• 1:27:48
SPEAKER_01: And that's when she realized that like it's just a blessing to be alive the next day, that we're all not dead.
• 1:27:54
SPEAKER_01: That's why she has this view of life that there's no plan, like it's just surviving to the next day, and that's it.
• 1:28:02
SPEAKER_01: And how she doesn't have spirituality.
• 1:28:04
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was it was I don't know.
• 1:28:07
SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it's like Brenda was just being a piece of shit.
• 1:28:10
  SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean.
• 1:28:11
SPEAKER_01: At first I was like, she's just being a piece of shit, and then I'm like, oh my god, no, she's just a confused child, and then I'm like, no, she's manipulating us, so I don't know how to think about either.
• 1:28:20
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:28:21
SPEAKER_01: And our final character that we're gonna talk about this episode is Dave.
• 1:28:26
SPEAKER_01: So David's actually at the Rack and Ball Court.
• 1:28:30
SPEAKER_01: He's actually getting ready to play Rack and Ball.
• 1:28:33
SPEAKER_01: You know, after saying forever that he has been playing it with Keith and actually playing it.
• 1:28:38
  SPEAKER_01: Like for real.
• 1:28:40
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:28:40
SPEAKER_01: And David's being impatient as fuck.
• 1:28:43
SPEAKER_02: Like honestly, no, Keith Keith is being impatient.
• 1:28:47
  SPEAKER_02: Was it a Keith?
• 1:28:48
SPEAKER_01: Keith who was being impatient.
• 1:28:49
  SPEAKER_01: No, it was David.
• 1:28:50
SPEAKER_01: He was just like, I don't understand when they're gonna end.
• 1:28:52
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, I thought.
• 1:28:55
SPEAKER_02: Okay, I thought it was Keith, and then David's like, oh, don't like, don't worry because like sometimes we go over.
• 1:29:04
  SPEAKER_02: Are you sure?
• 1:29:05
SPEAKER_01: I feel like it was maybe it was Keith.
• 1:29:07
SPEAKER_01: I feel like one of them was definitely being extremely impatient, and I was like, wow, you're literally waiting for a recall core to like.
• 1:29:14
  SPEAKER_02: I know, yeah.
• 1:29:17
SPEAKER_01: And honestly, it seems like David and Keith are spending more and more time together now.
• 1:29:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because Eddie doesn't play.
• 1:29:24
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's the thing.
• 1:29:26
SPEAKER_01: David asked about Eddie, and Keith gives a weird answer and basically just says, like, Eddie doesn't do sports or whatever.
• 1:29:32
SPEAKER_01: But he has Keith is really blinded by his he's like he has no depth perception.
• 1:29:37
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I meant by like a weird answer.
• 1:29:40
SPEAKER_01: Like he says some like really dumb shit, and then Keith just pretty much is like blinded by his sister's addiction.
• 1:29:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was a rough we saw that David thinks Keith is not overreacting, even though Keith's mom believes so.
• 1:29:56
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:29:57
SPEAKER_01: What were you gonna say, Lady?
• 1:29:58
SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I was just gonna say that when when we go to the scene with um Keith's family, um, we see Taylor and we see Keith's mom, and I feel like Taylor's character is so different from the last episode, just a complete 180.
• 1:30:21
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like she really was like calm and not calm, but like you know, but calm nice and played in on like yeah, like for everything going on around her, she just seemed like sad, but she was still just like respectful, had manners, was talking to David, wasn't just being like, Oh, you're just fucking my uncle, like nothing like that.
• 1:30:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and in this episode, she was just acting out.
• 1:30:44
SPEAKER_01: But I like cursed at the grandmother.
• 1:30:48
SPEAKER_02: I don't know, it just it just seemed like and I I understand because like the the grandmother was like, Oh, she's just looking for attention, and Keith is like, Yeah, can you blame her?
• 1:30:57
SPEAKER_02: And I get that sometimes like kids do act out because like even negative attention is better than no attention, but it's like this poor kid, you know, like this poor kid, and then the mother, I'm sorry, but she is not helping the situation, and she's just like, Oh, she's got a stomachache every time, she's just looking for attention.
• 1:31:17
SPEAKER_02: Maybe you should just give her some then.
• 1:31:20
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and Keith's mom, that's what I mean.
• 1:31:22
SPEAKER_01: Keith's mom was like defending Carla.
• 1:31:27
SPEAKER_01: She was like, Oh, she's just out.
• 1:31:29
SPEAKER_01: She told me she's out, and Keith's like, What the fuck?
• 1:31:32
SPEAKER_01: And he like plays the message that Carla left on the I was gonna say the vending machine.
• 1:31:37
  SPEAKER_01: What's wrong with me?
• 1:31:38
SPEAKER_02: On the message machine, and then half of you know how people always leave messages on the vending machine.
• 1:31:46
SPEAKER_01: You're trying to get a crunch bar and it's just Carla with the druggies in the background.
• 1:31:52
SPEAKER_02: Maybe she wanted a Snickers bar.
• 1:31:55
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 1:31:57
SPEAKER_01: Oh, what a full circle.
• 1:31:59
SPEAKER_01: Keith's mom says some really funny shit.
• 1:32:02
SPEAKER_01: When Keith was talking back to his mom about how shitty of like a mother Carla's being, Keith's mom says to him, I am your mother.
• 1:32:10
SPEAKER_01: You will respect that, or I will smack the black right off you.
• 1:32:13
  SPEAKER_01: That's so funny.
• 1:32:15
  SPEAKER_01: That really was.
• 1:32:16
SPEAKER_01: I know it wasn't supposed to be, but it really was.
• 1:32:18
SPEAKER_01: Going back to after the service, and by the service, I mean Michael's service.
• 1:32:22
SPEAKER_01: David's cleaning up when Nate Singer actually shows up.
• 1:32:25
SPEAKER_01: This is after the whole Nate scene when uh and Brenda.
• 1:32:29
SPEAKER_01: Like David came in at the end and said that Bobo sold, Mr.
• 1:32:32
  SPEAKER_01: Monopoly sold.
• 1:32:33
SPEAKER_01: David was actually just clearing the room and like backing up the chairs and shit like that in the showing room.
• 1:32:39
SPEAKER_01: And Nate Singer shows up to David.
• 1:32:41
SPEAKER_01: He asked David, that's not Davis, David show notes.
• 1:32:46
SPEAKER_01: Um, he asked David if he thinks he's in heaven or hell.
• 1:32:50
SPEAKER_01: If David thinks that Nate Sr.
• 1:32:51
SPEAKER_01: right now is in heaven or hell.
• 1:32:52
  SPEAKER_01: And when Nate Sr.
• 1:32:54
SPEAKER_01: reasons why he's in hell, he tells David that there will be a familiar face waiting for him there.
• 1:32:59
  SPEAKER_01: Harsh.
• 1:33:00
  unknown: Yeah.
• 1:33:01
SPEAKER_01: David tells his dad that he doesn't believe in hell.
• 1:33:03
SPEAKER_02: And then he also says Leviticus, Leviticus 20, 13.
• 1:33:09
SPEAKER_02: And so I looked it up, and it says it's basically if a man lies with a male as with a woman, they have committed an abomination, the two of them shall be put to death, their blood guilt is upon them.
• 1:33:23
  SPEAKER_02: And David's like, I don't think you're in hell, and I don't believe that anymore.
• 1:33:28
SPEAKER_02: And so we've we've got like a lot of growth from David.
• 1:33:32
  SPEAKER_02: We really do.
• 1:33:33
SPEAKER_02: So he's no longer punishing punishing himself solely for the fact of being gay, which is absolutely amazing.
• 1:33:42
  SPEAKER_01: It really truly is.
• 1:33:43
  SPEAKER_01: It's it's such character development on David's part.
• 1:33:47
SPEAKER_01: While David's having this conversation with his like deceased father, Nate walks in and begins to help David clean up and asks him the six-month question, just like he asked Rico, which is fucking weird.
• 1:33:59
SPEAKER_01: But that's when Claire comes in asking David for help.
• 1:34:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, before David can answer.
• 1:34:05
  SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
• 1:34:06
  SPEAKER_01: And he saved that.
• 1:34:07
SPEAKER_01: But Claire tells it's true.
• 1:34:10
SPEAKER_01: Claire tells her brothers everything that happened with Gabe.
• 1:34:13
SPEAKER_01: And but she but we know that she must have told them.
• 1:34:16
SPEAKER_02: I love that she goes straight for David and she's just like like right past Nate, and she's just like, David, I need your help.
• 1:34:23
SPEAKER_02: Because at first I was like, why didn't she ask both of them?
• 1:34:28
SPEAKER_02: Or like Nate, and then and then the second time I watched, I realized that she did try to ask Nate.
• 1:34:34
SPEAKER_02: I didn't make the connection that first time.
• 1:34:37
SPEAKER_01: It's not just that, it's that she went to David specifically because she knows who she knows David's close with the cop, and she needed like legal help in that way.
• 1:34:48
SPEAKER_01: She went to David because she really needed keep help.
• 1:34:51
SPEAKER_02: Well, I think so, but I think also she tried to go to Nate and that didn't pan out, and so she was like, Okay, I'm gonna try now, I'm gonna try David now.
• 1:35:01
SPEAKER_02: Like, I mean the cop, maybe the cop was a bonus, but I think I took it as that she tried Nate and then that didn't work out, so she tried David.
• 1:35:10
SPEAKER_01: In the scene where Claire was in the cart with Gabe, Claire was so scared and disgusted, and she put the gun in her bag.
• 1:35:17
SPEAKER_01: But we see Keith actually removing the gun from Claire's bag with gloves, and he's using like a pen to pick up the gun and placing it into like an evidence ziplock bag.
• 1:35:26
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and Keith X Claire.
• 1:35:28
SPEAKER_02: No, um, after she let Gabe out of the car, she goes back to the corner, the intersection, but there's no cars there, there's nothing.
• 1:35:38
SPEAKER_02: It's yeah, you know, it's just normal.
• 1:35:41
SPEAKER_02: There's no police activity, there's there's the car is not there still anymore.
• 1:35:45
SPEAKER_02: Like it's so it's kind of unanswered.
• 1:35:48
  SPEAKER_02: Like what happened?
• 1:35:49
SPEAKER_02: You don't really have an answer.
• 1:35:52
SPEAKER_01: But Claire knows that it's definitely wrong and she needs to go to the police for help.
• 1:35:57
SPEAKER_01: I mean, anybody could have easily said, like, oh yeah, I said somebody gets shot at from a green hearse, and yeah, I don't know about you, but I don't know how many green hearses are going around.
• 1:36:05
SPEAKER_01: Claire knows that this is all gonna bite her in the ass, even though it's not her doing anything.
• 1:36:10
SPEAKER_01: So she goes to David for Keith, and Keith actually asks Claire if she knew where David may be and what he was wearing, and Claire starts to describe what happened.
• 1:36:20
SPEAKER_01: She Claire has to walk through one of the hardest moments in her life so far, snitching on the love of her life.
• 1:36:26
SPEAKER_01: And while you know, Keith lovingly, calmly, supportively listening to Claire, David looks towards Keith with loving eyes.
• 1:36:38
SPEAKER_02: But and Nate is also, can we say Nate is a dick?
• 1:36:41
SPEAKER_02: Because Nate's gonna be like you don't think he can get another gun?
• 1:36:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, Nate's Nate's kind of being like Michael's mom in the beginning of this episode, like not necessarily helping, but maybe also just like shocked and scared.
• 1:36:54
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but like she doesn't need any of that right now, and David is the one who's tender and careful with her, and it's like, okay, but we're here now, and it's okay.
• 1:37:04
SPEAKER_02: And why do you do that for him?
• 1:37:06
SPEAKER_02: Why are you protecting him?
• 1:37:08
SPEAKER_02: And you know, Keith is like, because she loves him, you know, and and then it's like, but I tried to tell you, when did you Okay, I'm sorry.
• 1:37:18
SPEAKER_02: Like, I think Nate finally realized he was being a jerk.
• 1:37:21
SPEAKER_02: Nate was such a I don't know if it was because he was upset or because it like maybe it was like leftover stuff with Brenda, but he was just really an asshole to her.
• 1:37:32
SPEAKER_01: But that was the end of the episode.
• 1:37:34
SPEAKER_01: So we definitely talked about clothes that got us six feet under, but we didn't talk about who our grave figures of the weak are.
• 1:37:41
  SPEAKER_02: Ugh, mine was Gabe.
• 1:37:42
  SPEAKER_02: Fuck him.
• 1:37:43
  SPEAKER_01: And mine was Gabe.
• 1:37:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's really just I mean, like, look, the convenience store robbing or the liquor store robbing, actually, horrible.
• 1:37:51
SPEAKER_01: The fucking I forgot what the the fraud was even more horrible, but the shooting the gun at the fucking person in the car, come the fuck on.
• 1:38:01
  SPEAKER_01: Like that was preventable.
• 1:38:03
SPEAKER_01: And honestly, I have a feeling he was doing some shit in the woods, but I don't want to give too much away from what happens in the show.
• 1:38:09
SPEAKER_01: I mean, we all got the sense that he was doing something, and the viewer was supposed to.
• 1:38:14
SPEAKER_01: So Gabe's just a piece of shit.
• 1:38:16
SPEAKER_02: I have a straight observation about Eileen.
• 1:38:20
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 1:38:21
SPEAKER_02: So do you remember in the last episode when they got the casket wall built, and the guy is explaining how the ones on the top appeal to men because of their eye level or whatever, and then the ones on the bottom appeal to women.
• 1:38:39
SPEAKER_02: When she first stops at a coffin on the top, and then she's like, Oh, he doesn't like it, and then she settles on one on the bottom and she says, Oh, he says it's like this couch that we had or whatever, and she she blames it like on some connection to the guy's mother.
• 1:38:58
SPEAKER_02: But I wonder if that was supposed to connect and maybe make it seem like yeah, you're full of shit because those are the caskets that appeal to women, and if it was really your husband, he would have gone for one of the ones on the top.
• 1:39:15
SPEAKER_02: And but because you picked the one for the woman, it's you I so I don't know.
• 1:39:21
SPEAKER_02: It was just it was just a thought while I was watching, and I was like, Oh, she picked a woman's casket.
• 1:39:25
SPEAKER_01: Obviously, they're not gendered, but you know, caskets are engendered, no, no, no, no.
• 1:39:30
SPEAKER_01: I know what you mean by that, and like honestly, the ones marketed towards women.
• 1:39:35
SPEAKER_01: No, I completely understand what you're saying without fully explaining it.
• 1:39:39
SPEAKER_01: Um, and I feel like our viewers do too, but yeah, no, really, really good observation, and it kind of does show that she's not a hundred percent, do you know?
• 1:39:52
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I just felt like that was supposed to also make us question her psychic ability, and then in trying to connect the theme, the plan, I had a hard time with this one too, because it's like a running theme, and I don't know if maybe I just didn't notice it in any other episode, but I feel like every single member of the show, the characters, the family, Brenda, whatever, they're all not being truthful about something, right?
• 1:40:26
SPEAKER_02: So, like David in the beginning lies right off the bat about not seeing Senior.
• 1:40:32
SPEAKER_02: Claire lies about what she knows about Gabe.
• 1:40:35
SPEAKER_02: Ruth, she lied about calling herself.
• 1:40:39
SPEAKER_01: Well, yes, and she also just lies to herself.
• 1:40:43
SPEAKER_01: Nate, what did Nate lie about?
• 1:40:47
SPEAKER_01: His AVM and what was really bothering him.
• 1:40:49
SPEAKER_01: He didn't necessarily lie about it, but he was withholding the information, especially when he wanted to tell people.
• 1:40:55
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I feel like there was something else, but maybe maybe I'm misremembering.
• 1:41:00
SPEAKER_02: Brenda lies with um Jake from Melrose Place because she waves to him while they're well, first of all, she lies straight to his face, but then when they're at dinner, he waves, so she waves back, and Nate's like, oh, who's that?
• 1:41:14
SPEAKER_02: And she's like, Oh, this guy I went to high school with, he had a bad nose job.
• 1:41:18
SPEAKER_02: I I'm pretty sure Rico is lying about how many times he fucks Vanessa a week.
• 1:41:22
SPEAKER_02: But anyway, and Eileen may or may not have been lying about her psychic ability, but fuck, it's bothering me now with Nate, anyhow.
• 1:41:31
SPEAKER_02: But I feel like, yeah, like they're all just liars in this episode.
• 1:41:37
SPEAKER_02: And how do you connect lying to the plan?
• 1:41:40
SPEAKER_02: And is it like a metaphor because the plan is all about being truthful to yourself and your truth and speaking fiercely from the eye, and none of them are doing that, but I couldn't really get past that part.
• 1:41:58
SPEAKER_02: So I don't know if you had more.
• 1:42:01
SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, I feel like the title of this episode relates to the fact that nothing is really going according to the plan.
• 1:42:12
SPEAKER_01: That's so in Root Story, she thinks that this big realization is supposed to happen when she goes to like these.
• 1:42:19
SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna call them glorified counseling sessions instead of cult meetings, but she she thinks that this whole thing's gonna happen and it doesn't.
• 1:42:29
SPEAKER_01: Her idea of what the plan is doesn't go according to plan.
• 1:42:32
SPEAKER_01: Nate's life isn't going according to plan.
• 1:42:35
SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's being told that he could die any second now, right?
• 1:42:38
SPEAKER_01: Brenda's school, Brenda's birthday class doesn't go according to plan.
• 1:42:43
SPEAKER_01: And then we could just look into everybody else's all the other characters.
• 1:42:46
SPEAKER_01: Like no, you've got Rico's Rico's marriage right now isn't really going according to plan.
• 1:42:52
SPEAKER_01: Just go in based off of what happened in the last episode, more than what happened in this episode.
• 1:42:56
SPEAKER_01: Although it does have to do with what happened in this episode, like him him buying the house doesn't go according to plan because now there's more room for Vanessa's annoying fucking family to be there.
• 1:43:05
SPEAKER_01: David's relationship's not going according to plan.
• 1:43:08
SPEAKER_01: And Nate Singer didn't want to die that young in his life.
• 1:43:12
SPEAKER_01: His life didn't go according to plan, and Claire and Gabe didn't go according to plan.
• 1:43:16
SPEAKER_01: That's the way that I interpreted this.
• 1:43:19
  SPEAKER_02: I I really like that connection because I didn't catch that.
• 1:43:24
SPEAKER_01: And speaking of going according to the plan, us being 45 minutes over our plan, um let's let's actually start talking about our feel good do good plan.
• 1:43:35
SPEAKER_01: Lisa and I are on this feel good, do good mission that we talked about last episode.
• 1:43:38
SPEAKER_01: Each episode, we'd like to highlight a local business and charity from a city or town where our listeners that means you guys are from.
• 1:43:45
SPEAKER_01: We'd love for you guys to send suggestions on local businesses or local charities from your area that we should talk about.
• 1:43:50
SPEAKER_01: Get in touch with us.
• 1:43:51
SPEAKER_01: Our info is in the description of this episode.
• 1:43:54
SPEAKER_01: So, for this episode, Lisa, why don't you tell us where our local business and charity is from?
• 1:43:59
  SPEAKER_01: Brooklyn, New York.
• 1:44:01
SPEAKER_02: Good old Brooklyn with plenty of volunteers.
• 1:44:05
SPEAKER_01: Yes, it is the hometown of most Staten Islanders.
• 1:44:09
SPEAKER_01: Not that we're from Staten Island anymore.
• 1:44:12
SPEAKER_01: No, I slept there wasn't from there.
• 1:44:16
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 1:44:17
SPEAKER_01: I had to explain to somebody like the culture of Staten Island.
• 1:44:20
SPEAKER_01: I was like, it's just no, you know, you you you get the Staten Island from Brooklyn.
• 1:44:24
  SPEAKER_01: That's it.
• 1:44:25
SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, it is, yeah.
• 1:44:28
  SPEAKER_01: It's a step towards Florida.
• 1:44:29
SPEAKER_01: It's the Brooklyn to Staten Island to New Jersey to Florida plan.
• 1:44:33
  SPEAKER_01: That's it.
• 1:44:34
  SPEAKER_01: Pretty much, yeah.
• 1:44:36
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, so the the business this week is called Pour on the Glitz.
• 1:44:41
SPEAKER_02: And if you guys have ever heard of paparazzi, and it's like five dollar bling.
• 1:44:48
SPEAKER_02: And I have to tell you that I actually really like their stuff.
• 1:44:52
SPEAKER_02: I've bought from her, I've bought from Amy before, and um the truth of the matter is like you spend five bucks on each piece, and I mean obviously it's not you know, it's not like gold, right?
• 1:45:08
SPEAKER_02: Or whatever, but it's fucking awesome because I lose shit all the time, and I don't feel bad.
• 1:45:16
SPEAKER_02: I just you know, I have like a bunch of different stuff.
• 1:45:19
SPEAKER_02: You mix, you match, and like they're they're actually really pretty though.
• 1:45:22
SPEAKER_02: They're not like cheapy looking, you know.
• 1:45:25
SPEAKER_01: No, and that's what actually got me really interested in them.
• 1:45:28
SPEAKER_01: I remember when I came over one day and you just had a bunch of paparazzi stuff, and I was like, I gave you a pair of earrings for your birthday.
• 1:45:34
SPEAKER_01: You did, they were pressed flower earrings.
• 1:45:36
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you love them.
• 1:45:38
  SPEAKER_02: I know, I have a pair myself.
• 1:45:41
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, we should marry.
• 1:45:44
SPEAKER_02: I have you know, even um, I have this this necklace from them, and it's like uh I obviously it's not diamonds or anything, right?
• 1:45:52
SPEAKER_02: But it's like um like a V-shaped necklace, like where the trail kind of comes down.
• 1:45:58
SPEAKER_02: And I have worn that to so many weddings and this and that, and I get so many fucking compliments.
• 1:46:08
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, like you guys honestly treat yourself.
• 1:46:16
SPEAKER_02: The link is in the show notes, and and everything can be shipped, so like no need to worry if you're not in Brooklyn.
• 1:46:23
SPEAKER_02: You can still purchase whatever you like from the website and it will ship.
• 1:46:27
SPEAKER_02: The shipping cost is is like nothing too.
• 1:46:30
SPEAKER_02: It's I mean it it is a cost, but it's not that much.
• 1:46:32
SPEAKER_01: So, but yeah, and then for the non-profity, not what I don't I don't even call it non-profites from now on the day.
• 1:46:46
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so the non-profit is uh donors choose because she is also a teacher, New York City public school teacher.
• 1:46:56
SPEAKER_02: And so please, if you can, help support her classroom.
• 1:47:04
SPEAKER_01: For context, for anybody who doesn't know education or for anybody who has kids that go to public school and you just know that your kids go to school and you don't really know the culture of it, just to give you guys context, my school gave me$100 to spend for school supplies for next year.
• 1:47:22
SPEAKER_01: And I had a I like it's a policy in my district that I have to go through their website of choice and just the money that you're spending is ridiculous.
• 1:47:32
SPEAKER_01: Like I remember I was looking at like scotch tape.
• 1:47:34
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I wonder how much scotch tape would be.
• 1:47:36
SPEAKER_01: I had like a couple extra dollars to spend before I hit 100.
• 1:47:40
SPEAKER_01: One roll of tape was$15.
• 1:47:43
  SPEAKER_01: A bottle of Windex was$25.
• 1:47:46
SPEAKER_01: Like things are marketed, things are marked up so high.
• 1:47:48
  SPEAKER_02: Like hospital prices.
• 1:47:50
SPEAKER_01: Well, yes, and that's the thing.
• 1:47:52
SPEAKER_01: In your head, you're just like, like I remember saying so many times to myself, I'm like, you know what?
• 1:47:56
  SPEAKER_01: Like, fuck this.
• 1:47:57
SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm just gonna buy it with my money because to spend$25 on like this supply, whereas I could use that$25 towards something else that maybe I don't want to buy with my own money.
• 1:48:08
SPEAKER_01: And then I was in a cycle where I would kept telling myself, like, oh, I'll just buy this, I'll just buy that, and that sucks.
• 1:48:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't want to nobody should have to buy things for their job, right?
• 1:48:18
SPEAKER_02: And then not for nothing, though.
• 1:48:20
SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, it's great that they give you even that little bit of a stipend, but you should be able to do with it what you please because I'm sorry, even if they handed you$100 in cash, anybody who teaches or anybody who has kids in school knows that that's still not gonna be enough.
• 1:48:38
  SPEAKER_01: Uh-uh.
• 1:48:39
SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, please go 200% markup.
• 1:48:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like seriously and crazy.
• 1:48:47
SPEAKER_01: Please go to her property, please donate some money or buy her her non-profit charity, her property.
• 1:48:54
SPEAKER_01: Umproperty, yeah, and please go buy her something for her classroom.
• 1:49:00
SPEAKER_01: We feel for the teachers here on our potty, but yeah.
• 1:49:04
SPEAKER_01: So with that, my friends, if you're gonna go donate, if you're gonna go buy some jewelry, buy us a cup of coffee too.
• 1:49:08
SPEAKER_01: Maybe you could buy me more ciders because this is my last orange creamsicle downies, or psychic reading, or psychic reading.
• 1:49:16
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Sassin Sips gets a psychic reading.
• 1:49:19
SPEAKER_02: Everything is in the show notes.
• 1:49:21
SPEAKER_02: Sassinsips.com is like your one-stop shop for all of our info.
• 1:49:27
SPEAKER_02: We will be back next time with what is the next episode?
• 1:49:32
SPEAKER_02: Isn't it like driving Mr.
• 1:49:34
  SPEAKER_01: Moss back?
• 1:49:35
  SPEAKER_02: Driving Mr.
• 1:49:36
  SPEAKER_02: Mossback.
• 1:49:37
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so that's the next episode.
• 1:49:39
SPEAKER_02: And like we said before, check out the subscription service for access to all the bonus episodes, plus the few married with podcast episode episodes that I stuck there.
• 1:49:52
SPEAKER_02: And um, I mean, you can still join us on Patreon, but we just tried to make it a little bit easier for you guys.
• 1:50:01
SPEAKER_02: And honestly, every little bit helps keep the podcast afloat.
• 1:50:06
SPEAKER_02: There's not a lot of costs associated, but there are.
• 1:50:09
SPEAKER_02: There are hosting fees and Zoom fees and website fees, and you know, anyway.
• 1:50:18
SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, so like every every little bit helps, and we really do appreciate it.
• 1:50:25
SPEAKER_02: However, we understand if you cannot financially support the show, that's cool also.
• 1:50:30
SPEAKER_02: We ask that you consider giving us a rating or writing us a review because we like those.
• 1:50:38
SPEAKER_02: We like getting them and reading them.
• 1:50:40
SPEAKER_02: So, or share the share the show with your friends.
• 1:50:42
SPEAKER_02: Just be like, hey, listen to this right now and love it.
• 1:50:45
  SPEAKER_02: You know, whatever.
• 1:50:47
SPEAKER_02: And yeah, send in those those local businesses that you want to hear us highlight.
• 1:50:52
SPEAKER_02: We'd like to do that for you.
• 1:50:54
SPEAKER_02: I think that'll do it for this episode.
• 1:50:56
SPEAKER_01: Did we say don't drink and drive?
• 1:50:58
  SPEAKER_01: I tapped out for a second.
• 1:50:59
SPEAKER_02: Um, I think you did, but if you didn't, don't drink and drive.
• 1:51:02
  SPEAKER_02: Drink responsibly.
• 1:51:04
SPEAKER_01: And with that, when we come back on next episode, we'll be driving with Mr.
