Transcript
- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas. Ready for another episode. Lucas: We've been learning how to order drinks — water, tea, coffee, juice. Today I want to teach you a super useful phrase for when you want a hot or cold drink. Luna: Oh perfect. Sometimes I just want something warm, sometimes something icy. Lucas: Exactly. So the word for drink is 'minuman'. Can you say that? Luna: Minuman. Lucas: Good. Now 'hot drink' is 'minuman panas'. Panas means hot. Luna: Minuman panas. Lucas: And 'cold drink' is 'minuman sejuk'. Sejuk means cold. Luna: Minuman sejuk. Lucas: Great. So if you want to order a hot drink, you say 'Saya mahu minuman panas.' Let me say that slowly: Saya mahu minuman panas. Luna: Saya mahu minuman panas. Lucas: Yes. And for a cold drink: 'Saya mahu minuman sejuk.' Luna: Saya mahu minuman sejuk. Lucas: Perfect. Now imagine you're at a cafe in Kuala Lumpur. It's really hot outside. What do you say? Luna: Saya mahu minuman sejuk. Lucas: Yeah. The server might ask 'minuman apa?' meaning what drink. But if you just say 'minuman sejuk', they'll know you want something cold. Luna: What if I want something warm like tea? Lucas: Then 'Saya mahu minuman panas.' Simple. Luna: So minuman is the general word, then panas or sejuk specifies. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice a little scene. I'm the server, you're the customer. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Selamat petang. Apa awak mahu? Luna: Saya mahu minuman sejuk. Lucas: Baik. So you'd get a cold drink. Now reverse. You're the server. Luna: Selamat petang. Apa awak mahu? Lucas: Saya mahu minuman panas. Luna: I love how practical this is. Lucas: It really is. And you can combine it with what we learned before. Like 'Saya mahu kopi panas' for hot coffee, or 'teh ais' for iced tea. Luna: Oh right. But today's focus is just minuman panas and minuman sejuk. Lucas: Yeah. Keep it simple. Repeat after me: minuman. Luna: Minuman. Lucas: Panas. Luna: Panas. Lucas: Sejuk. Luna: Sejuk. Lucas: Saya mahu minuman panas. Luna: Saya mahu minuman panas. Lucas: Saya mahu minuman sejuk. Luna: Saya mahu minuman sejuk. Lucas: You know, it's amazing how these small phrases can make a big difference when you're travelling. Luna: For sure. I already feel more confident ordering drinks. Lucas: And if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, consider supporting the show. It keeps us ad-free and focused on teaching. Luna: Yeah, a small contribution goes a long way. Lucas: You can do that at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. All lowercase. Luna: And now back to drinks. Let's practice one more time. Lucas: Sure. I'll say a phrase, you translate. 'Saya mahu minuman panas.' Luna: I want a hot drink. Lucas: Yeah. 'Saya mahu minuman sejuk.' Luna: I want a cold drink. Lucas: Excellent. So next time you're at a mamak or a cafe, try using 'minuman panas' or 'minuman sejuk'. People will understand. Luna: I will. Thanks Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome. That's all for today's episode. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn Malay with Fexingo. Luna: Bye bye!
