- 6:55He's a return guest. He's been on the show before.
- 6:56He's going to be talking to us today in between comments that
- 6:59come in about some of his recent involvement in the heathen slash
- 7:03Pagan community down there in northern Alabama.
- 7:06And welcome back to the show Blake from Skaldit works.
- 7:10How you doing, Sir? I'm.
- 7:11Doing OK. Good.
- 7:13It's good to have you back and hopefully you're staying dry and
- 7:17ain't got blown way down there with all these storms and stuff.
- 7:19Coming through, yeah, we're, I think the big storms were
- 7:26supposed to come tomorrow night. That's what I was seeing.
- 7:28It's it's out West right now. I heard.
- 7:30I heard Missouri got like a an F3 somewhere.
- 7:35An F3 tornadoes right around Saint Louis I think.
- 7:38Yeah. Did you hear that?
- 7:40No, I did not. Yeah, yeah, Missouri, Kansas,
- 7:44all out there right now is is getting blown around Oklahoma, I
- 7:47think. So all that it's out there
- 7:49tonight and and out there is coming, coming our way from the
- 7:54from the South. So it's a little bit in like
- 7:56north northeast Texas, like near the Dallas area, Oklahoma,
- 8:00Kansas, Missouri and then it's it's sweeping over.
- 8:04So for anybody that does listen to this show right now, if
- 8:06you're listening or watching this some, if you're out in
- 8:09those areas, I hope you're all safe and safe and sound.
- 8:13Yeah, hunker down, bunker down. I was talking to, I was talking
- 8:18to some people earlier today saying that, you know, yeah, do
- 8:23all the physical things, but don't forget your, you know,
- 8:25word your spaces and, and bless the land and, and give your
- 8:29offerings and things to the to the divine and to the spirits
- 8:33for protection too, because that's, that's part of
- 8:35preparing. I think, you know, it's, it's
- 8:37maintaining those relationships. Yeah, like last night I had a
- 8:42prolific dream, though. I've had a dream that I was
- 8:45looking at the radar and it was like this big, like Category 5
- 8:50hurricane barreling towards like on Gulf Shores, like Alabama.
- 8:54Yeah, like straight for, like, straight for us.
- 8:57And I'm like. Maybe you have some some
- 9:01foresight there. Man, I hope it's nothing like
- 9:03that that's common. But.
- 9:05A little early in the year, Hurricane.
- 9:07Like little hurricanes right now.
- 9:09So, but yeah, I had just put in my dreams one time because
- 9:15because I knew that we were having storms, I guess.
- 9:17And in my, in my subconscious, it, it planted that, I guess.
- 9:24Yeah. So hopefully it's nothing,
- 9:26nothing too prolific. Let's hope not.
- 9:29I mean, like I said, I know it's still early in the year for
- 9:32hurricanes, but it's definitely tornado season, which I don't,
- 9:36you know. Oh, yeah.
- 9:37I say they don't usually get tornadoes down that far, that
- 9:40South or that far South. But we also, I don't know, did
- 9:45you guys, I don't think you did. We had we had an earthquake here
- 9:49in Tennessee last. Oh yeah, I heard about.
- 9:52That like a semi mile, like it was like a 4.1 or something like
- 9:55that. No, yeah.
- 9:57It was like on the IT was like on the Tennessee, North Carolina
- 10:01line. It was out.
- 10:02It was. It was about 30 miles, I think
- 10:04West of Knoxville and Greenback, so up up there in the northeast
- 10:10tip tip area. But it was it.
- 10:13I'd I'd been hearing that people had felt the aftershock of it
- 10:18was down far, like as far out as like Atlanta, GA.
- 10:21Oh yeah. And even a little bit down here
- 10:24in my area, Tennessee, there were some the.
- 10:26Thing is, if we ever feel one big here, it will be a big one
- 10:31because close to here we're at is the New Madrid fault line.
- 10:35That's, yeah. Memphis out close to out close
- 10:39to Memphis there, yeah. Last time, last time they had a
- 10:41big earthquake with that line, it reversed the Mississippi
- 10:44flow. Yep.
- 10:46Yeah, it's, I mean, and there's another fault line, a smaller
- 10:49one, but there's another fault line out close out east.
- 10:52So we've got 2 on either ends of the state.
- 10:55Oh yeah. So yeah, I don't know if I don't
- 10:58know how that stuff usually works, but if like imagine if
- 11:01one triggered the other. Yeah.
- 11:04East Tennessee would become West Tennessee, maybe.
- 11:06Or not even. Who knows?
- 11:07Like it would be catastrophic. The Appalachians rise to to
- 11:12their once more. Yeah, right.
- 11:15Yeah, Appalachia takes over and, and and we're just left in the
- 11:18rubble. Gets higher than the Rocky
- 11:20Mountains within a day. Imagine.
- 11:25Imagine that. Yeah.
- 11:27That'd be nuts. What else is new with you?
- 11:30What's going on? When are we going to get a new
- 11:32Skull It Works album? It's been a slow process.
- 11:39I've been busy with other things, predominantly work and
- 11:44then and then learning new instruments of course.
- 11:47Sure, like I recently I'm started discovered my love for
- 11:51the mandolin once more a couple of months ago and I've been
- 11:57taking what I take lessons, even though I don't really think I
- 12:01need lessons sometimes, but I think I just need to improve and
- 12:04just keep me on track, you know? And.
- 12:08And we pull out some and it helps and helps build up my
- 12:12skill, long loss skills like reading music and stuff like
- 12:16that we've been working on and. Yeah, got transcribing it to
- 12:20the. Mandolin as well.
- 12:21It's like taking it to the mandolin.
- 12:23And so it's, it's getting, it's actually picking up pretty
- 12:28quickly because that's like I, I was amazed how it just all
- 12:32clicks back. It's must be like kind of like
- 12:35riding a bicycle or something probably.
- 12:36Oh yeah, yeah. Touched it in over about 10
- 12:40years. That's cool.
- 12:44Well, you do have a new, some sort of a new song outright.
- 12:48I think you. Yeah.
- 12:49How new is how? How new is your newest material?
- 12:52About a couple months. It's about a couple months old.
- 12:54It started. I recorded at the at the start
- 12:57of this year. It's called healer's chant.
- 13:01I need to get that to you as well.
- 13:06I know it's on Spotify, so if you guys.
- 13:08On Spotify. Where it's called, it works.
- 13:11And yeah, there's only one of them out there.
- 13:12So and then just Healer's chant, it's got that and it's got this
- 13:15other song up there. Too.
- 13:17It's also got called the ancestors.
- 13:19I'm still working on other ones. One of my songs that I try, I
- 13:23want to record. I tried to record it and it was
- 13:26just a nightmare to record because I can't get the timing
- 13:28right. The metering.
- 13:32It's when I titled Dance of Eight here.
- 13:34Oh. Cool.
- 13:36It's got this like real upbeat, like Russian, like Slavonic,
- 13:41Slavic type beat to it. OK.
- 13:45Also probably more like finish type beat kind of like.
- 13:54So it's like really it's so it's like, it's like, it's like dot
- 13:58dot dot dot dot dot dot. It's like.
- 14:01I can't figure out what time it is.
- 14:04To just set my set. My set my click track to to get
- 14:08to me hitting that beat right but I have it in my head how I
- 14:12want to record it. But just getting it all set up
- 14:16to record is the problem with that, so I may have to try
- 14:19something different until I figure it out.
- 14:23Yeah, transferring it from your brain to the paper to the to the
- 14:26studio. Yeah, it's.
- 14:27Like, Oh yeah, exactly. Take some effort, I can see.
- 14:31That yeah, I think it's like, I think it's, it seems like it's
- 14:34in three like 3-4 time, but I could be wrong.
- 14:41The only way to know I guess, would be to play with it and see
- 14:43how it, how it, how it goes, you know?
- 14:44Yeah, yeah. I just I wish I could find that
- 14:49software that can transcribe it for me.
- 14:52It's got to be something out there like that with all the AI
- 14:55stuff nowadays, I'm sure. Oh yeah.
- 14:57They can, they just couldn't hear it and then play it and and
- 15:01throw it in there. Yeah, but what's the fun in
- 15:05that? You know, then you.
- 15:06Don't I know? I know, yeah, I may, I may ask,
- 15:12but I, I my music, my, my teacher, my mandolin instructor,
- 15:18he plays violin as well. He's like a string instructor,
- 15:22but he likes nearly every kind of music out there.
- 15:26So he's not just like bluegrass or or folk.
- 15:29He, so I, I, he's kind of like really down the earth and he, he
- 15:36knows my background, you know, and stuff like that.
- 15:39And he knows what I play and all the instruments I play and
- 15:41stuff. And he also plays like drums and
- 15:43stuff. So I may pitch it to him, see if
- 15:46he can help me figure that out. Yeah.
- 15:50So maybe maybe I need to talk to him about that and we can we can
- 15:53figure that beat out a. Little bit better and some
- 15:57collaborating going on, you know that.
- 15:59Yeah, I could help get you over that hump.
- 16:01Yeah. You know, or whatever, I don't
- 16:03know. Yeah, definitely.
- 16:04Speaking of music, though, you've been you.
- 16:07You got a chance to perform somewhat recently, though
- 16:10didn't. You.
- 16:11Oh yeah, I had AI had two events I had to play this this month.
- 16:17Originally was supposed to start out with Yakub Loon coming to
- 16:22the to the Ravenwood Meadery here in Huntsville, AL.
- 16:28However, due to the current situation at the border, they
- 16:32didn't feel like it was right for him to come at this time due
- 16:36to his his busy schedule and he didn't want to be detained here
- 16:41for longer than he should. And so they decided to cancel it
- 16:49from now and they postponed it to indefinitely and.
- 16:54Yeah. So then we were supposed to have
- 16:58Are you familiar familiar with Karen Dahlstrom?
- 17:02Heard of her? Yeah, OK.
- 17:05She recently had a book that come out actually I had that I
- 17:09bought. I got that book too.
- 17:10But she was going to do like a signing while he was there as
- 17:14well as she was just going to be there just the as a guest
- 17:19because she wanted to come when Yakim came.
- 17:21But she was going to be here anyway.
- 17:22And she said that she just didn't.
- 17:24They were going to do a whole weekend of her of runic stuff,
- 17:29you know. Right.
- 17:30Well, they couldn't sell enough tickets, so they had to cancel
- 17:33that. So it just became a a spring
- 17:35feast and a Maypole dance that I played for that Saturday, for
- 17:41Saturday the the 10th. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:46Just this past weekend there. Yeah.
- 17:47Yeah. And then this past weekend, this
- 17:51past weekend, we had a belt, a late Beltane event just to lift
- 17:55the spirits of people. So we we kind of melded it when
- 17:58with Midsummer, kind of like the the IT was not a ritual, OK.
- 18:03They don't classify it as ritual because these events like Wicker
- 18:07Man, Beltane, whatever they do, she don't want to associate as a
- 18:10Pagan event or advertise it as a Pagan event because the
- 18:14political, the atmosphere down here, yeah, I guess she wants to
- 18:19leave it open for all and open to interpretation as much as
- 18:22possible. She don't call it rituals.
- 18:24It's more like festivals to her. Sure.
- 18:26So what we did is she had me, she asked me to come play the
- 18:33event because it was a free event, free for people to come.
- 18:37She asked me to play the drum. So I I brought my big dabble of
- 18:42course, and I was the solo drummer that played the opening
- 18:48ceremony and then and then LED every person that wanted to
- 18:55bring a drum in. So I was like in charge for the
- 18:59first time ever. And that was kind of a little
- 19:01bit of nerve wracking for me because I haven't done something
- 19:06like that. I usually just following people
- 19:09as much as possible unless it's. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:12Playing the tackle Harper by myself and oh, and I forget to
- 19:18mention that before I did that, before I did all that, back in
- 19:22April, I did a a Astara thing in Decatur.
- 19:29Oh yeah, Did you? Yeah.
- 19:31And I, I'm not sure if I posted it on my on my main YouTube.
- 19:37I didn't put it on my Facebook. I didn't, I don't think I put it
- 19:41on my Scholar workspace Facebook, but my main, my page,
- 19:45I put it. I think I put it on my personal
- 19:47page, but it was like I was supposed to.
- 19:49I had like about an hour to play, but I ended up playing for
- 19:5325 minutes for some reason, because I, well, I couldn't keep
- 19:56track, you know? Yeah, because one, that was just
- 20:00poor. It was like, I wish I had a
- 20:02better setup where I can hear myself better, you know?
- 20:05But I had an impromptu person play like a gym Bay, a little
- 20:10small gym Bay, or a small drum. With me and stuff that just
- 20:15asked me to play, I'm like, sure, play, come on.
- 20:18And that was kind of cool. That was kind of cool.
- 20:20And but I just ran out of ideas and it's hard to keep it up,
- 20:25keep it up because of the temperature was causing the
- 20:28thing to go out. And then my bow, I recently
- 20:32tried to rehear it, but I did not was not successful.
- 20:36So I had to give me a new bow anyway.
- 20:38So I had that one on the way so well, but it was just so loose
- 20:44and stuff. I'm like, I'm not trying to
- 20:46rehear my bows again for a while until I figure out figure it all
- 20:50out. I'm just going to just get new.
- 20:52Just get new ones all together. That's.
- 20:54Rehear. Yeah.
- 20:55Yeah, yeah, what's up skit? So sorry to not Teresi earlier,
- 20:59just skit so from YouTube join. Just saying that he's pretty
- 21:02sure he's going to be get himself a drum set for his own
- 21:06birthday in August and can't wait to start teaching himself
- 21:09to play. Good luck with that man.
- 21:11I love the drums. My dad played drums, my
- 21:13grandfather played drums. I love the drum.
- 21:17It's the the heartbeat of nature, you know, that just
- 21:20connected in that, that rhythmic medicine.
- 21:23So only thing I haven't tried to do is actually a set like a like
- 21:27a modern drum set. Yeah, like a kit.
- 21:30Because I don't think I'm that coordinated.
- 21:34Like I can't coordinate this with my foot at the same time.
- 21:36I might, I may do that later on. I'm actually thinking about
- 21:41getting like a kick drug, like a small kick drum so I can use for
- 21:46my tackle Harper to get that like steady beat.
- 21:49The sound like my dabble, yeah. Do you know place?
- 21:53Yeah, for sure. Do you?
- 21:54Do you know who Aiola Aiola is? EOEO Aiola or something?
- 22:03It's EOYLA or EOYLA. He's French and he's you know,
- 22:09he's like a a bardic skull, you know, I mean, he's he he
- 22:14performs, he's got music on, he's got music on YouTube, he's
- 22:18got a Facebook page, but he goes live almost he goes live certain
- 22:26days of the week on his, you know, Facebook or the YouTube
- 22:29and I don't know if he does twitch or wherever he does at
- 22:31discord. But anyway, he's got this great
- 22:34like audios and video set up where he's he's playing a
- 22:41usually like he's, he's playing some sort of stringed
- 22:43instrument. So sometimes it's like a
- 22:45mandolin, sometimes it's a a liar or, or a tackle heart, but
- 22:51he's usually playing like a, a mandolin or something like that.
- 22:54Then he's got over here, he's got a freaking didgeridoo and
- 22:59he's got a, a kick drum and like bells or, or, or, or tambourines
- 23:04or whatever. And, and he's just, he's, he's
- 23:08playing this all together and singing at the same time.
- 23:11He's got a great, he's got a great singing voice.
- 23:15I know some people do like multiple like dudes like in
- 23:18their videos. I could never get, I never
- 23:20couldn't figure out how to do this type of video where that
- 23:22you have like it's like a music video, but you show each
- 23:25instrument coming in. Yeah, different camera angles
- 23:29and stuff like, yeah. Or, or, or the camera shows
- 23:32different instruments like you have what, 1 camera and you
- 23:34playing different, this different instrument as it's
- 23:37miked and from a microphone. And, and so I, I don't know how
- 23:41that's done. I don't think I could have that
- 23:44capability of doing that from music videos and stuff.
- 23:47The best idea with a music video was that one for called The
- 23:51Ancestors where I did use stock footage to make string it
- 23:56together and it looked pretty good.
- 23:59Yeah, that's his Facebook page guys, and he's also got a
- 24:02YouTube channel, but it's EOLYA Aolia, I guess is how it's
- 24:06pronounced, but he's French. He does speak English, but you
- 24:09know, he's he's he's a he's a French native and he's just guys
- 24:14just check him out and follow him on Facebook and YouTube
- 24:17because and Blake, you'll like him because man, he's he's a
- 24:19multi instrumentalist and he does it all at once and it's
- 24:22like studio production quality during a live stream.
- 24:25It's it sounds and looks so good.
- 24:27You'll you'll be jealous. I think I'm just.
- 24:29Trying to figure out how to do like a one man setup for live
- 24:32events. Man, just get the, just get the,
- 24:36you know, stable Internet, I guess cameras and, and the
- 24:39somewhere to, to, to plug all your stuff in.
- 24:42So that way it's it's coming through.
- 24:43I'm talking about like when I play in person, when I play in
- 24:46person, like like when I did for that Star Festival.
- 24:49Oh. Oh.
- 24:51I was going to. I wanted to get eventually get
- 24:54me a loop looper like a vocal looper so I can loop something
- 25:00in and then play something else. Oh, I got you.
- 25:04Now I see. What?
- 25:05You're saying, yeah. And then I might also just get a
- 25:08kick drum, like a small kick drum or a what they call a kick.
- 25:13It's like a, it's kind of like a Kahone, but they you, you can
- 25:17use a kick pedal with it. Kahones Yeah, OK.
- 25:21Yeah, like a Kahone. Like the the balls are the
- 25:24kahoneys now. Like KJKJON Kahone.
- 25:29I know, I'm just kidding. Let's out Michael, he said.
- 25:32Missed the start, but I'm here now yeah man, we're just this is
- 25:35you know Blake here from skull that works.
- 25:36We're just talking about music and cojones cojones.
- 25:40I'm just crapo. So he's talking about beating
- 25:44his nuts against the drum. Was that step brothers?
- 25:49I'm going to drag my nuts on your drum set.
- 25:51He's talking about dragging his nuts on his drum set guys now,
- 25:59but. PG13.
- 26:01PG13 I said no testicleers. We'll we'll use the medical term
- 26:07testicles. Testicles, the great, the great
- 26:10Roman general, the great Roman general testicles and, and his
- 26:17and his and his, his brother Biggis Dickus.
- 26:25It's a Monty Python reference. For those of you that don't
- 26:27know, I think, I think we're, I think the audience knows well
- 26:30enough that that was a, that was a Monty Python reference.
- 26:34Do you ever get into Monty Python?
- 26:36Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:37Some people can't stand that, that kind of humor.
- 26:39I I I get kicked out of it. I haven't seen every Monty
- 26:43Python, but I need to go back and watch them all, yeah?
- 26:47Life of Brian, you know. Yeah.
- 26:48Oh. Yeah, that's the one I haven't
- 26:51seen. The Holy Grail?
- 26:52Really. Yeah.
- 26:54I've seen The Quest of the Holy Grail.
- 26:55Yeah, yeah. It's like.
- 27:00It's but a flesh wound. Well, no, it's not your arms
- 27:02off. No, it isn't.
- 27:03It's. Like where's the where's the
- 27:07flight path of a of a swallow African or English I I don't
- 27:14know. No, what's funny is when they
- 27:21were arguing about it on top of the castle battlements.
- 27:28Yeah. Yeah, probably.
- 27:31He was up going towards the castle even they were talking
- 27:33about it at 1st and that's where he got it from and he and they
- 27:38were arguing over which which species.
- 27:43Michael Thacker said don't go getting testy here.
- 27:46Yeah, yeah. Oh, God, The balls are going to
- 27:50start rolling now. What's up, David?
- 27:52All right, David, have a good night, too.
- 27:53Heading to work. Have a good one.
- 27:55Hail to gods. Have a good night.
- 27:57Thanks for joining. And thank you everybody here for
- 27:59joining our monthly live stream. If you have a question or, or
- 28:02something that's on your mind that you'd like for us to to
- 28:05talk about, please drop them in the comments.
- 28:07We'll be happy to discuss. Right now, we're just kind of
- 28:10talking about random things. Blake's a musician.
- 28:12He a couple events recently in Alabama that he was tasked to
- 28:18perform at. Do you play drums and and tackle
- 28:21harp at at both things or just one or the other?
- 28:24One or the other mostly you like ceremonially.
- 28:28I'll do drums mostly for ceremony.
- 28:33One big reason why I took up drums is so I can do ceremonial
- 28:37stuff and drum journeying and and cha man style drumming.
- 28:43But I feel more love with drumming as I as I took Jakob's
- 28:48classes last year. And for everybody just, yeah,
- 28:54just real quick for everybody that doesn't know who he is
- 28:56referring to, Jakob Lee Hunt is a percussionist.
- 29:02Hilun. Sorry, Lund.
- 29:04Yeah, Hiluns is a percussionist for Highland and he does it.
- 29:09He work or he has done a workshop called, what was it
- 29:13Thrimscopper I think. Yeah, he's yeah, he still does
- 29:16that as well. With the.
- 29:18Drama. The other one, the Thrimscopper.
- 29:20Yeah, yeah, it means noise making.
- 29:24So that's what he's talking about.
- 29:25Sorry to cut you off. I just want to give people
- 29:26contact. That's fine.
- 29:28Yeah. And he had one last year and he
- 29:31was going to do one this year. And we didn't get a chance to
- 29:35but yeah. But he were they're trying to,
- 29:39but was going to be the same people that came last year.
- 29:42Was supposed to be his now wife. What was her name?
- 29:48Jackie Alberts. Yes.
- 29:51Was he recently married her? Got married to her, but they
- 29:53were together when he came over and then Matthias N Wink.
- 30:01That's I was excited about, you know, I mean, I'm excited about
- 30:04the drum thing too, but to have Doctor Mathias N big there was a
- 30:08Oh yeah, really awesome. It was really awesome to have
- 30:11him there and I, you get a lot out of his classes and stuff.
- 30:15That's the reason why I would like to take more of the class
- 30:17and more of the stuff. But I'm hoping I'm, I may talk
- 30:21with Rue a little bit more about when he comes next show, when he
- 30:27comes, when he, when he comes next to try to get him to see if
- 30:31we can have like a, I would like this to have like a DVD of our,
- 30:37of our experience made or something like a, like a, like
- 30:42a, like some kind of video kind of thing going on.
- 30:46Because I would like this. I'm in the moment.
- 30:48I can't record it myself, You know, I don't feel like
- 30:52recording it when I'm in the moment.
- 30:54And sometimes I wished I were recorded some of the things he
- 30:56said and some of the rhythms he taught us.
- 30:59So I can go back over and look at it.
- 31:02Oh, Yakub, you mean the drum rhythms and stuff?
- 31:05Yeah. Yeah, during his own workshop.
- 31:08Yeah. Because that was something I, I
- 31:10would love to have, loved to have, could remember what he
- 31:15did, what we did during that whole thing.
- 31:17But sometimes I don't remember all of it because it was just in
- 31:20the moment and stuff. And it was just like, then it's
- 31:24over. Yeah.
- 31:26Yeah, you're so. I guess you're so focused on
- 31:30absorbing what you can write then and there, you know, not
- 31:33about thinking so much about what you can reflect on.
- 31:36I mean, I'm sure a lot of it, though, gets, you know, for lack
- 31:40of a better term, it gets beaten into, you know, that that drum,
- 31:43that that proverbial rhythm, the, the gets beat into your
- 31:46psyche, so to speak. And it's.
- 31:47Like, Oh yeah. That's I love the drumming for
- 31:50that reason, because it does, you know, get rhythm that that
- 31:53connection to, to, to spirit through rhythm.
- 31:57And then there's the, but the, but I think also what made me
- 32:00forget majority of it probably is once we did the drone
- 32:04journey, I think it would all, it kind of goes all out because
- 32:07we had that drone, we had a drone journey afterwards.
- 32:10And so when we that meditation stuff, you're focused on that
- 32:14and then all of a sudden everything else is just like
- 32:19poof. Yeah, you start to just let the
- 32:23the spirit of things move you and rather than like the
- 32:25technical bits or the mechanics. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 32:29So, but we did learn. We did learn a lot of things and
- 32:32we did play on that time. We did play to a lot.
- 32:35We played to two hang along songs.
- 32:38We had one week 1, I forget which one.
- 32:42We played to the first one, but the second one we were working
- 32:47on using your hands to play the drum instead of the beaters and
- 32:52we were. He was teaching in this pattern
- 32:54and then it was too, and they were playing to Annawana.
- 32:59Oh nice. Yeah.
- 33:01So we were playing it like, yeah, so we were playing it with
- 33:05a tapping motion, like take it ta, ta, take it ta, ta, you
- 33:09know, like just using our, using our hands and.
- 33:14Yep, I can see that. Of course, I didn't have this
- 33:18bad boy up here or this big one right here.
- 33:21I'd made that. I was this reason why I did not
- 33:23make one with him that year is because I had that one already
- 33:28paid for and in the works so long before we were supposed to
- 33:36do that. So I was like, I couldn't
- 33:37justify doing it with him that year and I was attending to
- 33:41doing it with him this year and pay for the whole experience.
- 33:46The thing is, I would also get the play in front of him again
- 33:49like I did last year for that feast.
- 33:52Right. Yeah, How do?
- 33:53You I was on the I was I was all that feast.
- 33:57I was on the dock for the being the entertainment the whole
- 34:01time, despite whether who was coming.
- 34:06Really. So you're you're the you were
- 34:08the nights entertainment. Yeah, I'm there.
- 34:10I'm her go to. I've officially become a go to
- 34:13entertainment for her feast and I get I get like a meal out of
- 34:18it too, but still. That's, that's, that's always
- 34:20good, you know? Yeah, it was, it was a little,
- 34:25it was a little unusual though playing the Feast this year
- 34:27because it wasn't as packed as the past two feasts.
- 34:30I played with them for her because we did, we did.
- 34:34We did another Beltane event and then we did the three scalper
- 34:37event. I'll star up is what we did last
- 34:42year and that was earlier in the year and so I played both events
- 34:51and it was more packed than it was this.
- 34:54It was like the half the room was only booked for the feast
- 34:58this year so. Let's take a question here real
- 35:03quick and then we can come back to that, but Michael Hunt on.
- 35:06Just don't take one of mine. Put it back.
- 35:09If you take it, you can only borrow it.
- 35:11But Michael Hunt on YouTube. Thanks for your comments.
- 35:14Says what's your take on performing rituals in an area of
- 35:19sacred land to gods and spirits that differ from those who
- 35:24commonly practice on it? Do you have like an example,
- 35:31Michael? I mean, I'm thinking like what
- 35:33you're talking about would be like, I don't know, like I, I
- 35:39could take that a couple of different ways, you know, or are
- 35:42you talking about like a public area where, you know, it's
- 35:47usually like a church potluck and then you got pagans coming
- 35:50in trying to do something like I'm not, or, you know, area of
- 35:54sacred land to gods and spirits. What what is the land is sacred
- 35:58because it's made sacred by the, by the by the ritual.
- 36:02You know what I mean? Like sacred space has to be set.
- 36:05But I mean, are you talking about the, the native spirits or
- 36:11gods of, of a, of a land or a place that were venerated or
- 36:14worshipped by like a certain culture or, or, you know, I'm
- 36:20trying to understand the context of it.
- 36:22I mean, I'm not necessarily, I think, you know, venerating or
- 36:28performing rituals in an area of sacred land.
- 36:32Maybe he's got some more context to add to it.
- 36:36Let's see here Native Americans and Norris pantheons.
- 36:39OK, so are you, are you saying like having Norse or Germanic
- 36:46rituals on Native American lands because the gods of of northern
- 36:52Europe are not native to the lands here?
- 37:01I mean, it's rampant it and it works fine.
- 37:04I mean, people, we're doing things in North America and
- 37:07naming things and, and calling things as they are because of
- 37:11our, of our connection to those, to those lands, whether it be
- 37:14through ancestry or through other means.
- 37:17It's it's, you know, I think if, if, when, when approached
- 37:22correctly and when approached properly, I mean, obviously if
- 37:24if let's say, let's say it's a, let's say it's a sacred native
- 37:28site. Let's say it's a sacred site to
- 37:30a certain one of the First Nations people, First Nation
- 37:35peoples. I don't think that people should
- 37:38just arbitrarily go in there and do things without, without
- 37:42collaborating and, and first of all, getting permission from
- 37:45those First Nations peoples or, or whatever the, the, the, you
- 37:49know, the, the, the native tribe or the native people of that
- 37:53land to get permission to perform Sid rituals there.
- 37:57Like make sure that it's OK with them first, that they give you
- 37:59that. Because if it's sacred to them
- 38:00and it's in their culture, I don't think that it should be.
- 38:05There's also. Arbitrarily.
- 38:07There's also like a ton of sacred sites as well that that
- 38:11have been abandoned or forgotten from that since they because of
- 38:18course. Will the tribes move or the OR
- 38:20the people lost they're placed there or something like that?
- 38:23Yeah. They pushed out by our
- 38:27ancestors, you know. But I think there's a plenty of
- 38:29still, I think there's plenty of like existing sacred sites, like
- 38:34a lot of these First Nations people and, and the tribes
- 38:36across the country are, are deeply rooted in their
- 38:39tradition. So they know where their sacred
- 38:41sites are. So I think that in those
- 38:43contexts, you know, to have somebody just go arbitrarily in
- 38:46there and, and not, that's one of that's one of the things I,
- 38:50I, I have a huge respect for. Like when highland came over
- 38:53here and they were performing in areas that were sacred sites,
- 38:59you know, like the land mountain to wherever they were performing
- 39:03was, was, was near or on sacred ground to those First Nations
- 39:07peoples. And they've done it in across
- 39:10the world too. Like they did it here on, on
- 39:12there's like, you know, the people called Turtle Island.
- 39:15They did it in I think Asia when they were doing like Thailand
- 39:19and and the whole APEC region. They were, they were involving
- 39:23the indigenous. Yeah, they also did the, they
- 39:27also did the the what's the people there in New Zealand?
- 39:35The Maori. Yeah, they involved them and
- 39:39they did a full hack eye for them.
- 39:41Yeah, yeah, yeah. And with them and they even
- 39:46invite or they even did it for them as they came in when they
- 39:49welcomed them in. Yep.
- 39:51I'm members at the airport. Yeah, they they were doing.
- 39:54Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I mean, I think like in that
- 39:57way, like or in that context, you know, that's my take on it.
- 40:00I don't know like if you have anything.
- 40:01I honestly wish they did it here in Huntsville when they came.
- 40:08Yeah, I mean, I know they were in like a city and it was an
- 40:11amp. There was an Amphitheatre.
- 40:13Yeah, yeah. Setting it with, you know,
- 40:16different than you know, like the the black.
- 40:18I was, I was, but it'd be kind of cool they brought the First
- 40:20Nations to come in there and and help open it and stuff.
- 40:25That was. There was a part of me that was
- 40:26hoping for something like that, you know, yeah, 'cause I've, I
- 40:29saw the videos of other places where they did it and I'm like,
- 40:31man, what a. Like when they when they first
- 40:33came like to to was it when the Carolinas?
- 40:36Was it north of South Carolina when they came through before
- 40:39us? Yeah, yeah, I think it was North
- 40:42Carolina. Yeah.
- 40:43And they and they and they brought their, and they brought
- 40:47the First Nations in there. They did it out West too.
- 40:50They did it out West, I think Oregon or Washington or
- 40:53somewhere out there. 1 of this last one of.
- 40:56Their they also did it. They also did it in the at Red
- 40:58Rocks. Both times at Red Rocks
- 41:02actually. Yep.
- 41:06I have a huge respect for that. And they, you know, yeah, I
- 41:09think that's the only that's that's right.
- 41:11They're, yeah. I'm hoping that, that when
- 41:14Wardruna plays Fire in the Mountains later this year, I
- 41:18think 'cause they're, they're playing, they're playing in or
- 41:21near sacred land to the Blackfoot people.
- 41:25Oh, yeah, I believe so. They, they, you know, that would
- 41:30be cool if they, I know that the event organizers are, are deeply
- 41:35connected with those communities and, and stuff and making sure
- 41:40that what they're doing is that they're getting permission and
- 41:42it's OK and all this stuff. But it would be cool to see like
- 41:45a band like Wardaruna have some sort of.
- 41:47Ceremonial. Thing for them or they involve
- 41:50them in the ceremony or something like that, you know,
- 41:52they're not exactly the same type of performers and what not
- 41:57as as Highland per SE, but. They have a different approach
- 42:02to the land itself as well. Yeah.
- 42:06I mean, he's, he's still, he still has an amnestic approach,
- 42:10but it's a little bit more of a communal thing with him.
- 42:15I could see him, I could see him wanting to do something like
- 42:17that. He has the the presence and the
- 42:20the respective culture, you know, to yeah, to want to do
- 42:23something like that. So hopefully that answered your
- 42:25your question, Michael. Good one, though.
- 42:27Good, good, good, good question there.
- 42:32But as far as like land that's that's probably being forgotten
- 42:37or something like that, I think doing doing your own stuff to it
- 42:42like especially if it's like your own land.
- 42:45Oh yeah, you know, like you've if you've.
- 42:49Or out in the woods that have not been been visited in over
- 42:53years. But the land thing is, it's,
- 42:58it's sacred no matter where you go.
- 42:59I think it's that that's the animist in me though, that's
- 43:02seeing that, you know, spirit, spirit exists everywhere.
- 43:04And so to to step into that place is the sacred space.
- 43:08And spirit also will don't take any name you give to it because
- 43:12they have been worshipped in the wild like places where they
- 43:15haven't like that these spirits have not been venerated or
- 43:20recognized. They, they just, I think they
- 43:24appreciate being appreciated again.
- 43:29Yeah, they definitely like I was talking I think last week to
- 43:35yeah, I was talking to to Chris Miller.
- 43:39He's he's got a heathen community up in central Illinois
- 43:45that he is the Chieftain for the it's called Vegarsletta, the
- 43:49Vegarsletta tribe, and they're in like the Midwest, you know,
- 43:52central plains of Illinois there.
- 43:54So anyways, he's a, he's big into his, his work is, is in
- 44:01biology like plants and trees and, and, and things.
- 44:05So he's, he's big into that. But he, we were talking about
- 44:09how spirit of the London and this, this the spirit in plants
- 44:12and how they communicate. It's, you know, they all act in
- 44:15their own agency and they have their own, they own their own
- 44:19existence in the world. And it's not the same as ours,
- 44:22but being able to connect with them from time to time and have
- 44:25those moments when we're, you know, kind of In Sync with them
- 44:29or, or. Yeah.
- 44:31Quieting our minds and, and silencing our, our, our, our,
- 44:35our minds and to listen to what they have to say.
- 44:38I'm sure, like you say, the way that we feel connecting with
- 44:42them and how it kind of boosts our overall health, our mental
- 44:45health, our physical health. There's a reciprocity, you know,
- 44:49like, Oh yes, we're, we're connecting again.
- 44:51And then so it's, it's I, I, I've talked about that.
- 44:54We've, you know, here in my house, we've had plants that
- 44:57looked to be good for dead. You know, we had an organ plant
- 45:02that, that stopped blooming for, for a long time and it looked
- 45:06like just dead, you know, like there was, there was the only
- 45:09green on it was near the, the leaves.
- 45:13And it was, it was interesting because like the, the, the
- 45:17atmosphere of the home was at the time, you know, kind of
- 45:21tumultuous. And then once things got put in
- 45:23order and things were happier and there was more joy in
- 45:27existence by us, the humans in the space plant life responded
- 45:32even it was really interesting to see how it, it, it became, it
- 45:36was revived and it started blooming again and it's been
- 45:38blooming since. So it's interesting to see the,
- 45:41the relationship that our behavior can in part, you know,
- 45:46when we're in a good space or when we're not in a good space,
- 45:48how we can reflect in the plant life.
- 45:50And when you go outside and you put your bare skin on earth and
- 45:53you, you know, touch earth, touch grass, all of those heavy
- 45:57and burdensome things can be kind of offloaded into into the
- 46:00unto our mother yard, right? And then her healing comes back
- 46:05to us, those through those vibrations, through that,
- 46:08through that connectivity. So we definitely have a, we
- 46:12definitely have a, because we are part of nature, because, you
- 46:17know, because we are nature, we are made of the things that
- 46:19nature is made of. We it is sacred, you know, and,
- 46:24and claiming it, claiming space is sacred place or sacred space
- 46:28to, to work with your divinity, the God spirit, whatever it's,
- 46:33it's about connecting. It's about being connected in
- 46:36the in the presence. And I think that's the reason.
- 46:38I think that's also why I'm I feel the way I do right now in
- 46:42this in the slump I've had over the past couple on weeks to
- 46:47months. This is I haven't gotten out in
- 46:49nature and forever for a while. Yeah, it's time and.
- 46:54I'm very bad. I'm very about that that.
- 46:56But when I get back in it, I'm like, it gets clear, like I can
- 47:00go out just in a little bit of space and.
- 47:06Well, you know. If we go, if we go out to the
- 47:08woods and shoot, like shoot my oh, I feel that energy as well.
- 47:18You know, all you needed is just to, to start as I mean, all you
- 47:20need is is 10 minutes a day, you know?
- 47:23Oh yeah. And then it's a day to just take
- 47:24your socks and shoes off and just put your foot, put your
- 47:27feet in the grass. Oh yeah.
- 47:29Just that 10 minutes a day can can, can really improve things,
- 47:34I've noticed. And then when you do that and
- 47:36you make a habit and a sort of a ritual of that, you then become
- 47:41more inclined to want to increase the time you're like,
- 47:45oh, instead of sitting, you know, in front of my, you know,
- 47:48and this is not a dig. Don't let, don't let me, don't
- 47:50get me wrong here. Like, instead of sitting in
- 47:52front of my video games for three hours, I could be outside
- 47:55in the grass for an hour, you know?
- 47:56Or. Saying, you know, like do your
- 47:59things that you enjoy, like not not trying to, you know, dig on
- 48:02anybody for that. But at the same time, like if
- 48:04you can make 10 minutes a day, every day, no matter what you're
- 48:07doing, you can make 10 minutes. You'll find where your other
- 48:11time is being spent. And you'll be like, oh, well,
- 48:13I've got 20 minutes there. Actually, I got 30 minutes or
- 48:15whatever. And you want to, the more you
- 48:18practice it, the more you live it.
- 48:19It becomes your lifestyle. Oh yeah.
- 48:25So I think if you haven't been able to get out there that.
- 48:27The only I do when I it's the same film I do when I play music
- 48:29as well. It's like when I get when I
- 48:32actually start doing it and I keep doing it and I do it.
- 48:35It's it's like my mood is just lifted.
- 48:38Yeah, well, that probably has to do with the rhythm too.
- 48:42You know what I mean? That that, that it's in cadence
- 48:45with your breathing cadence with your heartbeat, you know, like
- 48:48just maybe not the same rhythm, but just that, that rhythmic
- 48:51motion. And then how music is, is a, is
- 48:54a, it's a type of medicine, I would say, you know, because
- 48:58it's, it's a universal language. You don't have to be able to
- 49:03speak, you don't have to be able to speak a language to know
- 49:06when, what music makes you feel like.
- 49:08It's but also it's also energy and vibration too.
- 49:12Yep. And because they they even they
- 49:19have science has proven this as well that different frequencies.
- 49:24Oh yeah. Affect different areas and even
- 49:27in even in the Hindu modern Hindu interpretations of chakras
- 49:33and stuff, each frequency correlates with a certain
- 49:36chakra. Michael Hunt who says by the
- 49:41way, not my real name. OK, I'm wouldn't I wouldn't
- 49:46knock it if it were. But anyways says appreciate the
- 49:48feedback. Just wanted to ensure proper
- 49:50respect to not overstep others and their lands.
- 49:53Likely just overthinking it. By the way, not my real name
- 49:56lol. Yeah, no, I mean, Michael or
- 49:59whoever you are, again, if it's, if it's sacred land to the, the
- 50:07native Indians that are, are indigenous to the space, I
- 50:13would, I would approach that with the with the respect and
- 50:17and honor that it that is deserving of it.
- 50:18You know, like don't again, just arbitrarily think that it's OK.
- 50:23I mean, like if it's a, if it's a big space, if there's
- 50:25especially if it's like a, a burial mouse or any, some sort
- 50:29of sacred site that is important to them first, first reach out
- 50:34to them and see, you know, what's the accessibility to
- 50:38this, you know, out of respect. Yeah.
- 50:40I think that's the right approach.
- 50:43I think the only free thing you could probably do, if it's like
- 50:45a sacred like site where the spirits are, you know, you could
- 50:49probably say a small prayer for the spirits there on your own.
- 50:54Yeah, like, you know, I mean. Acknowledging in that spirit,
- 50:57just acknowledging that spirits and just say, oh, great spirits.
- 51:02Yeah, I mean, I'm sure it's something like that.
- 51:04That's, you know, one person going there and, and paying
- 51:06respects to that nature. I mean, I'm, I, I guess I'm
- 51:08thinking more along the lines of I'd like to host an event here
- 51:11and bring, you know, 150. People, yeah, or something like.
- 51:14That for a ritual year like hold on.
- 51:16I would never have a ritual on on sacred land, but if I go
- 51:19through like a sacred site or some of that, I will always bow
- 51:23and pray to the spirits there. Just like if I was like, say, I
- 51:27went to like, Japan and to all these Shinto shrines, I would
- 51:31do, I would do it to the bet. I'll pay my respects the best
- 51:36way I can because those are sacred.
- 51:39And when visiting those shrines, yeah, the spirits were there and
- 51:44you acknowledged them and you weren't about them to you.
- 51:49Because they would, of course, like when you go to a shrine
- 51:52there they will also have pamphlets that tell you what the
- 51:55spirit is and the story behind it and the mythological
- 51:59mythology behind it then. But you still go.
- 52:03I still go there and pay my respects.
- 52:05Speaking of sacred sites, did you hear about or have you ever
- 52:12heard of Hoens? Let's see if I can do it right
- 52:16in my German Hoensenberg. That's probably terrible.
- 52:20Hoensenberg. It's it's a, it's a sacred holy
- 52:24place of Thor in Germany, of course.
- 52:30But you see here I'm reading a thing about it.
- 52:34It was so this was an article written by Al Sidhu founder
- 52:42Robert Sass. And he wrote a blog earlier or a
- 52:48few years ago about the the sacred Saxon site in, in
- 52:54Hohensen, Hohensenberg, Hoisenberg, not Hoisenberg,
- 52:59HOHENSY Berg BURG Hoensburg. It's my best.
- 53:07I think I can do it right now. I don't know why I'm having a
- 53:09difficulty with the German pronunciation, but the fact that
- 53:13Cyborg was a Saxon holy place, Hoensyberg.
- 53:17Maybe that's maybe that's Hoensyberg, but the fact that
- 53:21Cyborg was a Saxon holy place to Thunor is not mentioned in any
- 53:28books that at the time Robert had read about it, nor websites.
- 53:33What is fascinating is that in the old Saxon Halian poem, there
- 53:42contains a passage that proves the sacredness of of Thunor in
- 53:46Saxon thought. So without a doubt, you know
- 53:49Thunor, which is the Saxon name for Thor.
- 53:53It it he was a he was a big deal to the Saxons.
- 53:58And it also proves that in the Saxon Halian, this is this is
- 54:05kind of what blew my mind, right?
- 54:07The Christian missionaries who are they're chose to attempt to
- 54:13replace Thunor with the apostle Saint Peter.
- 54:19So Robert's point is that it's he says the fact that the
- 54:22Christians felt the first Pope of the church, which is Peter in
- 54:26their in their in their Canon right is and and the most
- 54:30important and the most important disciple in their gospel was the
- 54:34one to quote UN quote, hide Thunur right to replace Thunur.
- 54:40So they wanted basically wanted to have their most important
- 54:44person replace the Saxons most important person in their and
- 54:48beyond in the, in their in their religious views that right there
- 54:51their St. or their God or their deity, right.
- 54:54They the the the Christian missionaries wanted to get
- 54:56picked their most important person or their most important
- 54:59figure to replace the Saxon heathens most important figure.
- 55:04And this was that again, this is a Honziberg.
- 55:07I guess is is how I'm going to say it, Honziberg.
- 55:13So yeah, I don't know if you'd ever heard of that place, but.
- 55:15Yeah, I've never heard of it. Yep, It was a sacred site
- 55:18dedicated to Thor. We know, of course, Donar's Oak.
- 55:23And I think it's Lower Lower Saxony, maybe.
- 55:25Where's where's Donar's Oak? Donar's Oak?
- 55:32The site of where Donar's Oak used to be.
- 55:36Yeah. Unclear locations around what is
- 55:39now the region of Hesse, Germany.
- 55:44Donar Aisha is the historical landmark in north.
- 55:49Let's see in car Germany. I don't know if that's, I guess
- 55:55that's the north maybe. But of course, those those holy
- 56:05sites, those sacred sites, they were either the trees were torn
- 56:09down or the monuments like they're so like the side of the
- 56:13airmen. So like those trees were cut
- 56:16down or they were burned and then what was replaced were
- 56:20churches, You know, they, they would build a church on that
- 56:23site as like a kind of a finger to the to the sacks.
- 56:33So don't do that. Don't, don't go into sacred
- 56:35sites and try to wipe things out and put your own shit up.
- 56:37Don't do that. Which makes me think, are there
- 56:42churches on sacred sites here in the states?
- 56:47Dude, are you kidding me? I'm sure there are.
- 56:48There has to be. Because if they were doing the
- 56:51same, if we had the same mindset as.
- 56:55I mean. The Christians, if the
- 56:56Christians then that that settled here, had the same
- 57:00mindset, you know? Yeah, I mean, like we look like
- 57:05the Native Americans are are conquered people and and they
- 57:09were conquered by Europeans. Yeah, of course they were.
- 57:12They were already they were fighting themselves.
- 57:14Like that's not a secret. It's, you know, tribes always
- 57:16there was always inner fighting, even with the Germanic people.
- 57:19It's one of the reasons why a confederation didn't work.
- 57:25It's, it's one of the big reasons why the Germanic tribes
- 57:29couldn't unify and form a coalition of confederacy to
- 57:33fight against Charlemagne and to actually retain their traditions
- 57:38and keep themselves heathen. Yeah, it's because they were
- 57:42always fighting themselves. So same thing happened over
- 57:44here, obviously. But then Europeans came over and
- 57:46it was, you know, genocide left and right taken over.
- 57:50And then I'm sure, dude, I'm sure that there's got to be holy
- 57:54sites or sacred places, sacred ground to, to Native American
- 57:56Indians that have been replaced with, you know, the church,
- 58:04church or a church or something. I mean that, I'm sure of it.
- 58:09Yeah, probably all these probably these churches that are
- 58:13in the in the in the backwoods probably I think all these like
- 58:17old churches. Well, I mean, you know, I just,
- 58:21you know, it's, it's wild. You know, you look around and I,
- 58:23I live, I live not, I live a stone's throw away or, you know,
- 58:29from the, the trip, a part of the Trail of Tears.
- 58:32Like if there's a sign where this is where the Trail of Tears
- 58:34go through, you know what I mean?
- 58:35And there's highways and there's.
- 58:38You know, there's, there's literally a church.
- 58:43I lived in Pulaski. There was a few trail of Cheers
- 58:47roads that went there as well. So you know, you just figure
- 58:51where that where that had gone through and then you look and
- 58:54see what there is now. I mean, there's a huge world
- 58:56outreach church or world outreach, but there's a huge
- 59:02mega church that's like down the road from us as well.
- 59:05I'm like, well, if the Trail of Tears came through here, then
- 59:08they got to have, even if there's not a church there, I
- 59:11mean, there, there's a highway, there's, there's something
- 59:13there. So it's almost like, you know,
- 59:16when you see the, the state of a, of a place and you go, why is
- 59:20it so bad there? And then you start doing
- 59:22research on the land where everything is now what it used
- 59:26to be. And you're like, oh, no wonder
- 59:27things are fucked. It's because this is all Indian
- 59:29burial ground, you know? It's no wonder everything's a
- 59:34shit show, you know? Like you just built everything
- 59:38over their sacred marial mounds, you know?
- 59:41Oh yeah, it's just like here in Huntsville, I think it's like, I
- 59:45think it's the reason why they're one of the buildings
- 59:49that were up there originally up there.
- 59:52The older buildings was gone the ruin probably, but they still
- 59:58have some like people living up there is on Monte Sano mountain
- 1:00:01right there is got a lot of history behind that as well.
- 1:00:09There's a lot of like. You know anything about the
- 1:00:11history there or the is it all? It well used to be Huntsville,
- 1:00:16used to be considered called Monte Sano.
- 1:00:20Like the from the mountain down the bit to that on to where it's
- 1:00:25now where West eastern Huntsville is used to be called
- 1:00:31Montesano. Montesano, Montesano.
- 1:00:36Montesano. Yeah.
- 1:00:38And there used to be, there was, there was also, there was like.
- 1:00:41A rusty. It's a mount.
- 1:00:44It's like, it's like a mountain. It's.
- 1:00:46Like a Monte Monte, Monte Monte is a.
- 1:00:50Yeah. Like Monte Cristo Christ
- 1:00:53Mountain. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:56I mean, I'll have to look that up, see what it.
- 1:00:58Means yeah, I'm going to see here because now you got me
- 1:01:00going. Now I'm going down.
- 1:01:03Now I'm going down the Monte St. St.
- 1:01:06How is it? Monte St.
- 1:01:07Oh, Monte Sano State Park. Yeah.
- 1:01:13So what Monte I'm? Trying to figure out Monte Sano
- 1:01:16Mountain which is technically is a Mesa technically because it's
- 1:01:20flat. It's Spanish for mountain of
- 1:01:24health. Oh, OK, so it's a it's a Spanish
- 1:01:27name. Monte Sano maybe, I don't know.
- 1:01:31It's given by Doctor Thomas Fern, but I was reading
- 1:01:38something where the, it was like its own town or something up
- 1:01:42there at one point. And yeah, it's got, no, it's
- 1:01:46like mostly there's ruins of the old of the old hotel there and
- 1:01:49there's ruins of the, if you go on some of the trails, there's
- 1:01:53some ruins of the of somebody's house.
- 1:01:56OK, Yeah, OK, gotcha. Yeah.
- 1:01:58So it was this old. Yeah, in the state, in the State
- 1:02:02Park of it. Yeah, in the State Park of it,
- 1:02:05Yeah. It's like you'll find a lot of
- 1:02:07old ruins but then there's like newer buildings and housing up
- 1:02:11there as well. Huh.
- 1:02:14But on some of the sites, and then there's, it's got a lot of
- 1:02:21weird history. There's like also some old
- 1:02:23remnants of railroad tracks. Yeah, I was looking at there's a
- 1:02:27railroad. So I guess this was this was the
- 1:02:33the reason it was called the Mountain of Health was because
- 1:02:36Thomas Fern, with his two brothers, founded a small colony
- 1:02:39on the mountain during an epidemic of yellow fever,
- 1:02:42malaria and colon. Yeah.
- 1:02:44Well, apparently everybody was sick, as sick as dogs.
- 1:02:47And then they they settled a community on this mountain where
- 1:02:50they could keep people healthy. Yeah.
- 1:02:53That's fascinating. And I think it, I think it later
- 1:02:56though, I mean, it was it, I was reading something like, I can't
- 1:03:01remember if if I'm correct on this, but I was reading
- 1:03:04something in a, in a brochure or booklet from them.
- 1:03:08They show the map of what the whole area was like and it went
- 1:03:13down even into eastern Huntsville for a while.
- 1:03:19And then of course Huntsville. Huntsville was named and
- 1:03:24swallowed everything else and annexed everything.
- 1:03:28Yeah. So.
- 1:03:30More gentrification or something?
- 1:03:34Yeah. Yeah, well, that's cool.
- 1:03:36Like I live where I live, when you came up, 'cause you've been
- 1:03:40to Murfreesboro, you came up for the Shadowmoot last Shadowmoot
- 1:03:45last year, which by the way, I don't want to go off the rails
- 1:03:49too, Mark, but, but since we mentioned that, did you hear
- 1:03:52that the hearth is they, they are doing Shadowmoot this year
- 1:03:55and it is a camping event. Oh yeah, I saw something about
- 1:04:00that. I think it's up in Kentucky.
- 1:04:02Yeah, Hopkinsville, which is just not that far over this
- 1:04:07Tennessee State line. So you know, if you're yeah, if
- 1:04:10you're if you're coming up this far halfway, then you're like
- 1:04:13another 2 1/2 maybe hour or so hours to Hopkinsville from here.
- 1:04:19So. But they are doing it and it is
- 1:04:21it is the thing. So.
- 1:04:23But yeah, when you came up here like we're.
- 1:04:25Sounds like it. Sounds like it's like near the
- 1:04:27gorge, the Red River Gorge. Yeah, it might be.
- 1:04:34I don't know, because that thing is that place is that gorgeous
- 1:04:37huge. It's in Red River.
- 1:04:40Gorgeous huge in in Kentucky. It's like it's got a lot of
- 1:04:44hiking trails there. Yeah, it's in Christian County.
- 1:04:55There's also a there's also a a big hiking trail that goes east
- 1:05:00to West. So it's, it's, it's West, yeah,
- 1:05:04it's southwestern Kentucky. Like it's not as far West as
- 1:05:07say, you know, Indiana or whatever.
- 1:05:08But it's, it's, you go up like towards Clarksville and then go
- 1:05:14up into to like Fort Campbell and it's up in that area or a
- 1:05:20little bit West of there. So, but yeah.
- 1:05:23Anyway, the the the trail I'm thinking about is like an E is
- 1:05:26like like southern East Tennessee up through northern E
- 1:05:31on Kentucky. Oh, OK, yeah.
- 1:05:34Yeah, I forgot. Opposite side.
- 1:05:36Yeah, but I don't think the gorge is like dead center.
- 1:05:43Yeah, yeah, Yep, 20. Six months.
- 1:05:46I've only been to Kentucky briefly when I was younger for a
- 1:05:50friend's graduation. So the, the, so anyway, when,
- 1:05:54when you came up here, like Murfreesboro, like where, where
- 1:05:58I live in, it's, I'm right by the Stones River and huge amount
- 1:06:02of Civil War history that happened here.
- 1:06:05You know, so you talk about the land and the things that
- 1:06:08happened and, you know, memories of, of whatnot.
- 1:06:11It's I live right on the Stones River.
- 1:06:13And you know, you realize like this is this was such a crucial
- 1:06:17part of the war. You know, people, battles were
- 1:06:21fought and won on these on these on the shores of this river and
- 1:06:26and then you live right by it and it's it's, it's a, it's kind
- 1:06:29of like a, it's a big thing for me at least it's, you know, to
- 1:06:32be around that kind of history and.
- 1:06:36There's battlefields here near, and there's battlefields here in
- 1:06:40the county that I live as well. The college here has history
- 1:06:45too. It used to be at all women's
- 1:06:46college right before the Civil War.
- 1:06:50Oh yeah. And in exchange for letting them
- 1:06:53use it as a hospital place for the soldiers, for the unions,
- 1:06:58union soldiers, they just, they spared it from being burnt.
- 1:07:04And they, the other condition, they was they, they slept with
- 1:07:06the women. Yeah, I'll just say what else
- 1:07:08does, what else is else is good for them there?
- 1:07:12Yeah. And then and then the story is
- 1:07:14it being from being all women's scholars to Unisense college.
- 1:07:20Oh yeah, community style college kind of thing.
- 1:07:23Coed they call it I think. Yeah, because the Founders Hall,
- 1:07:28the main building Founders Hall predates the Civil War and you
- 1:07:32could tell it predates because of all the because of the the
- 1:07:35massive column work and stuff. Interesting.
- 1:07:41That's where they host, that's where they host our annual
- 1:07:43fillers convention each year right there.
- 1:07:46They do the competitions right there on this, on the step of
- 1:07:48Founders Hall, and I've been in it several times.
- 1:07:53I used to compete on top of that.
- 1:07:55What? I used to compete in the
- 1:07:57harmonica. Oh really?
- 1:08:01I didn't know you played a harmonica too.
- 1:08:04Oh yeah. Does the beard get in the way?
- 1:08:08Nowadays it does. I didn't have a beard at the
- 1:08:11back then, or much of A beard. I had a goatee at the time.
- 1:08:16Yeah, I can imagine the hairs get in the way of the reeds.
- 1:08:20Oh yeah, kind of. Yeah.
- 1:08:22It was like the I I played that. I still can play it a little
- 1:08:26bit, but I don't play it as much as I used to, but I used to get
- 1:08:31at least at least in the top five.
- 1:08:39I'm assuming that's a pretty good.
- 1:08:41I'm assuming that there's there's plenty of harmonicist in
- 1:08:44the area of where you're from. I would just that that just be a
- 1:08:48wild guess. They're from all over the
- 1:08:49They're all over the country. Oh, it was like a big thing,
- 1:08:52like a big competition, like a. Yeah, like the Phils, the Phil
- 1:08:56competition brings people from all over the country.
- 1:08:59Oh. OK, wow.
- 1:09:00I thought it was like a local thing or something that you
- 1:09:03were. Into now we actually, my one of
- 1:09:05our friends, my friends of the family who's been playing with
- 1:09:11us for a long time. He's from Michigan and he has,
- 1:09:17he also has a, he also has a house in Florida that he goes to
- 1:09:21like, like during the winter, I guess.
- 1:09:25Well, yeah, if you're going to if you're going to winter over
- 1:09:27in Michigan, then I would I would go South.
- 1:09:29Too. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:31But he, he plays a lot, of course.
- 1:09:35He's very Christian religious, you know, and plays a lot of
- 1:09:39religious stuff, like like bluegrass gospel stuff.
- 1:09:44But oh man. When he say or or country
- 1:09:48gospel, you know, but I mean some of that stuff, some of that
- 1:09:54stuff I do like the sound of, but I don't like the message
- 1:09:57behind. The I mean, you could probably,
- 1:10:00I guess like if you like the sound of it, but I mean, and I'm
- 1:10:03sorry this is a dig, but it's just like, yeah, they all sound
- 1:10:07like they're hole in their nose and it's like.
- 1:10:10Yeah, it's that those high, high pitched sound.
- 1:10:13I can sing like that too, like for like bluegrass stuff.
- 1:10:17But the bluegrass gospel is is a little different animals that as
- 1:10:21like more of a the way he sings. He has that that Hank senior
- 1:10:27wine. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:30Yeah, when he sings, he can do. He does a lot of stuff and which
- 1:10:33is while that's done like in the key of E.
- 1:10:39For me, it's done in the key of no, because I'm not about it.
- 1:10:43I don't get down with it. My wife actually likes some of
- 1:10:45the older country, like the Southern gospel type stuff, you
- 1:10:48know? Yeah, and the reason I like.
- 1:10:49I like so much is because it's bluegrass, yeah, but I do like
- 1:10:53bluegrass music still. Because.
- 1:10:57If you if you talk about like a lot of the and I'll do like all
- 1:11:00the Appalachians now folk which has roots, which has roots,
- 1:11:07yeah, which has root. The old fiddle tunes, old time
- 1:11:10music is like is my own instructor calls that a lot of
- 1:11:15this has roots and all over the place as roots and Irish music,
- 1:11:19Scottish music, Canadian music, French, all kinds of stuff.
- 1:11:25And but bluegrass has roots in like jazz and like ragtime all
- 1:11:36the way into into like Blues into to that Appalachian folk.
- 1:11:43Yeah, well, you've got to think like when the, the, the lands of
- 1:11:46Appalachia that were settled were settled mostly by Scottish
- 1:11:50and, and, and English and, and, and the Irish, right.
- 1:11:53So the Celtic sounds. And if you go like, have you
- 1:11:57ever seen this? There's a there's like a video
- 1:11:59tutorial. Not tutorial, but there's like a
- 1:12:01video of this lady explaining the Southern drawl, the Southern
- 1:12:05accent. Yeah.
- 1:12:07How different it is depending on where you go.
- 1:12:10Like if you go to the Deep South, like in Mississippi, it's
- 1:12:13going to be a totally different accent down there.
- 1:12:15Whereas if you go over there to, you know, Georgia, you know, she
- 1:12:20goes through this whole like thing and then she gets up into
- 1:12:22Appalachia and there's a bit of a sing song for us to it.
- 1:12:25And, and, and, and it traces back like old European, the
- 1:12:30when, when their accents were what they were and they migrated
- 1:12:33over here and they settled and, and how the, the, the, the
- 1:12:35dialects and the, and the accents and stuff evolved.
- 1:12:39It's all from, from that part of the world.
- 1:12:41So the music definitely had a had a part in influencing early
- 1:12:46American folk. Music.
- 1:12:47Well, here's a here's an interesting fact.
- 1:12:49Have you ever seen this? Have you ever seen this fact
- 1:12:51that's floating around the Appalachians mountains?
- 1:12:56Used to be this a part of the same region as the Scottish
- 1:12:59Highlands and the hills of Ireland.
- 1:13:05Well, the yeah, because, well, Appalachia is as old as as it's
- 1:13:09it's the oldest. Yeah.
- 1:13:11It's part of the oldest mountain range because when when
- 1:13:13everything was together in the in the great.
- 1:13:15Continent, it shifted. And everything.
- 1:13:16The Panja, yeah, Africa there, there's part of that Appalachian
- 1:13:20mountain range is is originated. Africa, yeah, and part of it's
- 1:13:24also in in Norway. Norway, yeah.
- 1:13:28So like there's, there's a huge shift of everything that, that,
- 1:13:31that happened and that's where it all originated, which is when
- 1:13:35I go every year when. I go blue.
- 1:13:37Ridge Mountains. It's, it's such a, it's such a
- 1:13:39reconnection to old, old, oldest, you know, spirit of, of,
- 1:13:45of the land of the world. Yeah, like because I guess they
- 1:13:51connected with it. That's the reason why they
- 1:13:53connected with it, because it had that spirit of their old
- 1:13:55homeland, it looked like. I mean, it does look like it.
- 1:13:59There's a lot of place it looks like it.
- 1:14:01Looks like the Highlands without without the coast.
- 1:14:05Yeah, this the, the, you go through the Grayson Highlands
- 1:14:12in, in northwestern North Carolina, you know, start
- 1:14:16getting into the Blue Ridge Mountains with the Grayson
- 1:14:17Highlands. You would man you, you, you're
- 1:14:19coming down from Virginia into that area.
- 1:14:21You, you'd swear you're in like Europe because it just it's all
- 1:14:25rolling hills and farm lands and it's, it does it's very
- 1:14:28reminiscent. And all the Evergreen trees and
- 1:14:32stuff that are prevalent in the, in the, in the northern Europe,
- 1:14:37they, they, they thrive there in those elevations.
- 1:14:39So it does it's it's very reminiscent, I think of their of
- 1:14:43their homeland. So yeah, all that culture came.
- 1:14:46Along with them, but it's all it's also, I mean, he settled
- 1:14:49down even down through here because we're still part of
- 1:14:52Appalachia here. The Appalachian Plateau itself
- 1:14:56extends all the way down to where I live is it's hilly where
- 1:15:02I'm where in my, in my town, even in Huntsville, you can tell
- 1:15:05it's hilly because once you get east of Huntsville, you get
- 1:15:10you're getting into the southern smoking there.
- 1:15:15Yes. And then, yeah, you got
- 1:15:17realized. Yeah, it's looking at mountain
- 1:15:19goes into, from, goes from Tennessee into Georgia into
- 1:15:25North Alabama all at once. And then, then it goes all the
- 1:15:30way down to Birmingham. Like they were thinking about
- 1:15:35extending the Appalachian Trail from from Mount Springer instead
- 1:15:42of it going to Mount Springer. They were thinking about taking
- 1:15:47it busy. I'm pay Holy trail that goes
- 1:15:50through Alabama, through Georgia.
- 1:15:52It connects into that. It's a connector into the
- 1:15:55Appalachian Trail up there. Oh wow.
- 1:15:58And it goes all the way down to the Talladega National Forest,
- 1:16:01which is where Mount Chihai is, which is our, which is our
- 1:16:04highest point. It does.
- 1:16:08It goes, it goes pretty far South and it goes quite far
- 1:16:11north too. Oh yeah, all the way up into all
- 1:16:16the way up into Canada. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:20Then you got the Adirondacks too.
- 1:16:21That go further EA Little bit, yeah, but yeah.
- 1:16:24I think they're, I think they're part of that same, the same
- 1:16:27range. Might be right.
- 1:16:33Because I think if they, I think they were part of the originally
- 1:16:35part when they were formed, they're part of the same range.
- 1:16:38But they wrote again, they they were probably as tall as the
- 1:16:41Rockies were are now, but they wrote it down.
- 1:16:46Appalachian Mountains. Let's see here.
- 1:16:50Mount Mitchell is the highest point.
- 1:16:52I've been there. Yeah, I forget it's native name,
- 1:16:56but. Mount.
- 1:16:59Mitchell Yep, Mount Mitchell is the highest point of the
- 1:17:03Appalachian mountain range, which is in Yancey County, North
- 1:17:08Carolina. And I forget, it's what is.
- 1:17:10It's yeah. Mount Mitchell is the highest
- 1:17:14peak of the Appalachian Mountains and the highest peak
- 1:17:16of mainland North America east of the Mississippi.
- 1:17:20See, I always thought it was. I thought it was Mount Katatan
- 1:17:24and up in Maine. Nope.
- 1:17:28You they would like to think though.
- 1:17:31But yeah, the Appalachian range runs from the islands of
- 1:17:33Newfoundland in Canada to central Alabama.
- 1:17:38So that's Birmingham? Yep.
- 1:17:42Exactly. Mitchell.
- 1:17:44What is its? I want to know its native name.
- 1:17:49Mount Mitchell. The Cherokee people.
- 1:17:54Yeah, the Cherokee people who long occupied the area as part
- 1:17:56of their land homeland called the mountain Otakula.
- 1:18:02That's how I think. I think I think the.
- 1:18:05Mitchell. Well, because, well, you don't.
- 1:18:07You want to know why it's called Mount Mitchell?
- 1:18:10It's because the dude he fell in, he felony died on the
- 1:18:15mountain. So they named him.
- 1:18:17Yeah. Elijah Mitchell.
- 1:18:19He was a professor of the University of North Carolina.
- 1:18:22He first explored the Black Mountain ranges in 18-8 Black
- 1:18:26Mountain region in 1835. He determined that the height of
- 1:18:29the range exceeded by several 100 feet that of Mountain,
- 1:18:32Washington and New Hampshire, which is, I think what you were
- 1:18:35maybe thinking of or close. But then Elijah Mitchell, the
- 1:18:40latter had been commonly thought of at the time to be the highest
- 1:18:43point. So, so Mount Washington used to
- 1:18:45be thought of as the highest point.
- 1:18:47Elijah Mitchell determined that Aracola was taller.
- 1:18:54And then he died near Mitchell Falls in 1857.
- 1:19:01Because he was going back to verify his measurements.
- 1:19:04He was going back to make sure that what he said was true.
- 1:19:07Yeah. But Mitchell Falls.
- 1:19:09He fell off of it and died. And so they then named the the
- 1:19:14They named the thing after him. They named the mountain after
- 1:19:17him. So he fell.
- 1:19:18He fell off the falls. So guys, yeah, he he falled.
- 1:19:22So, so the, the moral story, moral of the story is if you
- 1:19:26want a place named after you, just die some sort of way there
- 1:19:30doesn't even have to be heroic. Just, you know, trip and bust
- 1:19:32your ass and tumble down the mountain and, and Blake, you
- 1:19:35know, you could have, you could have a mountain called Mount
- 1:19:38Russell or Mount Blake or something for all you know,
- 1:19:40right? Just do something cool and and
- 1:19:43die there and they'll name it after you.
- 1:19:45The thing is, I have a whole town now named as my last name,
- 1:19:48Russellville. That's right, you do.
- 1:19:52Because there's a, there's a there the my original name, my,
- 1:19:56my family name, my family, my adopted family on my dad's side
- 1:20:02originally started out in South Central Alabama.
- 1:20:07Close to around near Auburn area in LA call Laverne Alabama and
- 1:20:15they umm then my my my grandmother and my grandfather
- 1:20:21on on his side of the family. His mother and father moved to
- 1:20:25Georgia ever, ever his service in the umm, umm, in the Army
- 1:20:33because he was a truck driver. Nice.
- 1:20:37So, but there's also a lot of Russell's up in Pulaski too.
- 1:20:41I've seen, I've seen a lot of grave sites at the men's
- 1:20:44cemetery there, which that cemetery also has a plate.
- 1:20:48And one of the cemeteries, there's a marker.
- 1:20:50There's like 4 markers. They're marked by three stack of
- 1:20:54cannonballs. Civil War cannonballs.
- 1:20:58We've got a lot of those types of monuments around here too,
- 1:21:00where they, they, they, they stack, you know, it's like a
- 1:21:05pyramid sometimes. Yeah, yeah, like a whole.
- 1:21:08Thing like a like a like a stack of four.
- 1:21:11And you know what, I don't know if you've ever seen the people
- 1:21:13come, you know, they do. They try to bust them, bust them
- 1:21:16apart so they can take them. I think that's.
- 1:21:18Some shit. Vandalize.
- 1:21:20Them, yeah. In assholes.
- 1:21:23But, but there was a lot of Russell's.
- 1:21:25It was with my spell, the spelling of my name.
- 1:21:27But see, that's The thing is, my last name is actually Scottish.
- 1:21:35Yeah. And my my mate, my mother's
- 1:21:39main, my adopted mother's maiden name is Craig, which is Scotch
- 1:21:43Irish, has Scottish and Irish lineage into it.
- 1:21:50And Craig, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:21:53Old Elijah Craig. I knew that guy once.
- 1:21:56Yeah, I was kidding. I don't.
- 1:21:57I just drank the whiskey or the bourbon or whatever it was a
- 1:21:59bit. Oh yeah.
- 1:21:59But yeah, there's a lot of Craig, one of the Craigs in
- 1:22:04Athens and my grandfather knew or knows or was related to which
- 1:22:10I found out that one of the one of the people that there's a a
- 1:22:15machine shop that was behind my grandfather's lumberyard across
- 1:22:22the tracks that was on was the the nephew was the guy I was
- 1:22:28friends with in high school. And it turns out his uncle was
- 1:22:37related to my grandfather. And so I guess that means me him
- 1:22:41related somehow down the line. You know what I found out, dude,
- 1:22:45when I moved to the South almost 20 years ago, actually this year
- 1:22:49when I, when I moved to, to, to Tennessee from New York, I moved
- 1:22:52down here. I I started realizing just how
- 1:22:55much how how much related everybody is.
- 1:22:58Yeah. 'Cause like, you know, I'd, I'd
- 1:23:01be with somebody, right? I don't know anybody from Adam.
- 1:23:03And then, you know, I'm with this person and they see
- 1:23:05somebody in the store or at a freaking drive through and a
- 1:23:08restaurant and they're stopping and they're talking like, how do
- 1:23:10you know them? Oh, that's my cousin so and so
- 1:23:12that's my uncle, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:23:13And I'm like, how will you be like?
- 1:23:17Small towns there Athens started out as a small town, so it it
- 1:23:22had little people and then. Little people meaning like a low
- 1:23:28population, not meaning like small.
- 1:23:30Expatcher, right? Yeah, like.
- 1:23:32Not, not, not a city of Oompa Loompas or dwarfs or.
- 1:23:35Whatever the right room is. So it started out with everybody
- 1:23:38knowing, either knowing everybody or being related to
- 1:23:41everybody in some way. Not in like an inbreeding kind
- 1:23:44of way, but you know, it's like. Yeah, we got some class.
- 1:23:47We're not Arkansas. Give us a break here.
- 1:23:48Like no. Yeah, it's like, it's like the I
- 1:23:53think somehow inbreeding breaks down after like 4 cousins twice
- 1:23:56removed. Or somehow it does, I think.
- 1:23:59Yeah, or something like that. Because some people did marry
- 1:24:01their marry their third or fourth cousins.
- 1:24:04You know, I've heard, I've heard stories where people in my
- 1:24:07family have done that like that, like the earlier generation
- 1:24:12before my my grandmother's generation would do that.
- 1:24:16Yeah. Well, because when you live in a
- 1:24:19small town, like, what else are you going to do?
- 1:24:20But yeah, that and then not that I wouldn't, yeah.
- 1:24:23It was before Athens, before Athens became like this.
- 1:24:27It's like we've become the the dumping grounds for housing for
- 1:24:34people who who commute to Huntsville, basically.
- 1:24:39What's the biggest thing you guys have going on in Huntsville
- 1:24:41anyway? Like we were there and I'm like,
- 1:24:44it's a city, right? Definitely.
- 1:24:45But it ain't like, yeah, you know, what's the, what's the
- 1:24:48biggest form of, of industry or what, what's the biggest thing
- 1:24:51going on in Huntsville these days?
- 1:24:52Is there a plant or or or manufacturing facility?
- 1:24:57Or aerospace. Aerospace.
- 1:25:00Oh, that's right, because you used to have the the, the, the,
- 1:25:03the rocket that they. We are.
- 1:25:05We are. We still do rockets there.
- 1:25:07We're still NASA's. NASA has a headquarters at
- 1:25:09Marshall Space Flight Center. That's right.
- 1:25:12They still do all the all the stuff.
- 1:25:14They even made some of the even bits of the ISS you know they've
- 1:25:19done. Yeah.
- 1:25:21Well, that used to be like the landmark out there on the
- 1:25:23Interstate was at 65. They used to have that.
- 1:25:26Rocket, yeah, they tore that one down.
- 1:25:27They tore that one down. They think about putting a
- 1:25:29different one up there, but it was it was becoming, it was so
- 1:25:32becoming so aged because it was an actual rocket is a Saturn.
- 1:25:36It was a S it was a Saturn 1B rocket and they had Saturn 1A.
- 1:25:44They have a, they used to have a, the biggest rocket at the
- 1:25:47space for Rocket Center was the center 1BA or a center 1A.
- 1:25:51And they hit a center 1B in the Interstate.
- 1:25:54Yeah, there when you come in. Yeah, that's a good deal when
- 1:25:57they pick that out. That's up in the Ardmore, it's
- 1:26:00like close to that's like about 15 minutes from where I live and
- 1:26:07they, they removed it because it was getting 8 so aged that they
- 1:26:11wanted to take it down and stuff.
- 1:26:14So they did. I could have refurbished it
- 1:26:16maybe, I don't know. I think it'd be AI, think the
- 1:26:18outkeep would have been a lot more I guess, but I think they
- 1:26:22wanted to put like something more different, like a more
- 1:26:24modern rocket there. But but of a put what Elon
- 1:26:29Musk's SpaceX pods? Or something but there or one or
- 1:26:34one of the newer ones that NASA came out with.
- 1:26:37Yeah, yeah. Keep it true to form, you know.
- 1:26:39Because we're, we're still involved with that here and over
- 1:26:44there. There's all doing stuff with
- 1:26:46that, but very cool. But it's also not just that.
- 1:26:50It's also become the, it's basically the Silicon Valley of
- 1:26:56the South. There's I.
- 1:26:57Knew you were. I knew you were going to say
- 1:26:58that. Yeah, I knew you were going to
- 1:27:01say that. I'm like, well, I'm going to ask
- 1:27:02Blake what's going on. He's going to be like, we're the
- 1:27:04Silicon Valley of the South. Yeah, I know.
- 1:27:07Basically that's what it is because we have a lot of, we
- 1:27:12have a lot of, I like programming companies there.
- 1:27:17We have Raytheon is over there, Intergraph is over there.
- 1:27:24I have a friend who works, she works for the for them, but
- 1:27:29she's she works as a home base operate programmer now for them.
- 1:27:34And then we have a see what else we have.
- 1:27:37It's like all sorts of things going on.
- 1:27:40I remember we had also had Curse gaming over there at one point.
- 1:27:44Oh, OK. If you if you remember Curse
- 1:27:47Gaming, they used to do all the add-ons for World of Warcraft.
- 1:27:54Yeah, the Wow people are going to go ape shit over that now.
- 1:27:57Oh, wow, really? I'm going to come to Huntsville.
- 1:27:59Yeah, that's where, that's where I.
- 1:28:00Mean the board. Yeah.
- 1:28:02We, we, we had that. We had that when there.
- 1:28:07I don't remember where it's at. We also now have the A, the MTM
- 1:28:11is there now Mazda Toyo Motors that we also have another Toyota
- 1:28:18plant there as well. And so you guys, yeah.
- 1:28:25And we're becoming big on the entertainment or tourist
- 1:28:28entertainment industry is now getting up there.
- 1:28:32Now we're getting a lot of good bands coming in and stuff.
- 1:28:36Yeah, I mean, shit, you got you had high lung come down there.
- 1:28:39I know there's other I've seen, I've seen some really good bands
- 1:28:43at. We have LL scooper comes at
- 1:28:46least every year, at least once a year.
- 1:28:50Yeah, they're in Nashville too. It's like a good spot for the
- 1:28:52for the for the for the tour circuit to hit either Huntsville
- 1:28:56or Nashville or, yeah, Louisville, somewhere in that
- 1:28:59line. Oh yeah, we have.
- 1:29:02But it's. All the bills just hitting all
- 1:29:05the bills up, you know? Yeah.
- 1:29:07We fancy. It's becoming, I mean, the only
- 1:29:09thing is I wish they would get more like smaller like known
- 1:29:13bands and stuff because while they're coming in the burn, like
- 1:29:16a lot of the good ones are coming into Birmingham this
- 1:29:18year, like a Monmarth with Panteras coming in the in the
- 1:29:22Birmingham. And I'm like, why didn't
- 1:29:25Huntsville pick that one up? And.
- 1:29:28Then I think it's a lot to do with just their management and
- 1:29:33seeing, you know, how they're going to hit the big, the big,
- 1:29:35the big, the big cities that are going to bring them in, you
- 1:29:38know, a good crowd. What's up?
- 1:29:39Bernard Davis there on Facebook says hello.
- 1:29:43I'm not going to. Be able to go to the Modern
- 1:29:46Model concert though because those tickets are a little
- 1:29:49pricey because of Pantera. Dude, yeah.
- 1:29:52Yeah, but the one I'm going to go, probably go see too, is
- 1:29:55going to be down there in October's hailstorm.
- 1:30:00Oh dude, that'll be fun. Like the and L Storm, Yeah,
- 1:30:09yeah, they're the tickets are like they were like $46 for
- 1:30:13general mission. Well, that ain't it.
- 1:30:16That's doable. That that is not bad, Like,
- 1:30:20yeah, compared to ticket prices now and then I'm like, I may
- 1:30:24actually swing that if I get somebody to go with me.
- 1:30:28I don't like going alone. My wife's the same way.
- 1:30:32Yeah, she doesn't like. Traveling alone is like, I
- 1:30:38don't, I wouldn't mind going to shows by myself.
- 1:30:40It was like somewhere close to home, like say like Huntsville,
- 1:30:43but going like somewhere like the Birmingham or traveling all
- 1:30:46the way to Atlanta by myself or to Nashville by myself for just
- 1:30:51a concert. It's a bit of a hall it.
- 1:30:53Seems like it's kind of a risky thing.
- 1:30:57I yeah, I definitely get you. And it's always nice to have,
- 1:31:00you know, companions to, to go along with Speaking of like
- 1:31:06shows and and and stuff. I had I had a pretty when I say
- 1:31:09I had something weird happened to me today, I mean in not just
- 1:31:14the sense like when I say weird, I mean beyond just odd.
- 1:31:19I mean like WYRD weird. OK, seven years ago today, I had
- 1:31:28been asked to go. I had been asked to join a local
- 1:31:32metal band on stage to kind of like do some vocals with them at
- 1:31:39A at a show that they were performing at.
- 1:31:42Yeah. And it was a show in Nashville
- 1:31:44and my wife and I both went and I had, you know, I had.
- 1:31:49So seven years ago, you know, I had probably recently launched
- 1:31:53Midgard Musings, you know. Yeah, it was, it was right
- 1:31:57around that time. Soon thereafter, because, you
- 1:31:59know, I, I started, I started Midgard Musings in, in April.
- 1:32:03And so when I, when I went, so I got asked by this band.
- 1:32:11Barnard says it's all about the experience.
- 1:32:14But experience, those are better shared.
- 1:32:16Yeah, for sure. But when I went to this when I
- 1:32:20went to this concert, the the the the vocalist of the metal
- 1:32:24band was also at the time into the Norse Pagan stuff, you know
- 1:32:30what I mean? They had a really nice mule near
- 1:32:34that almost had that kind of like the the stern mule near
- 1:32:38that that didn't on our revealed in I think it's skern or skon
- 1:32:43mule near shape Skein, skein, skern, Skern.
- 1:32:46Yeah, the the skein mule near that in Sweden that they dug up
- 1:32:49like a 1200. Years ago like like this one
- 1:32:51here. Yes, exactly right.
- 1:32:54Yeah. So their Milliner was that they
- 1:32:56wore was very, very much styled like that really substantial and
- 1:33:01I. I have one.
- 1:33:02I have one like that when my my second Milliner was that I ended
- 1:33:06up gifting that to a friend of mine like last year.
- 1:33:10So they, they knew I, you know, practicing and they, they've,
- 1:33:15they've sensed, had, you know, their whole life had changed,
- 1:33:20ended, ended a marriage, moved out of state.
- 1:33:22You know, they're going out to the West Coast, do this huge,
- 1:33:25like 2500 mile long hike up the Pacific Coast or something soon.
- 1:33:29And anyway, they've been out of state for a while.
- 1:33:32They've been living in like Illinois or somewhere.
- 1:33:35And so they came, they had been back and I got a random message
- 1:33:38from them on Facebook today saying, Hey, you know, I'm in
- 1:33:42town for the next, like I'm in town today.
- 1:33:44I'm getting rid of a lot of stuff that I don't need any
- 1:33:46more. And I had a couple of things
- 1:33:48that I wanted to give you if you're wanting them, one of
- 1:33:51which is my old mule near because they don't, they have,
- 1:33:55they haven't pursued the path any further, you know.
- 1:33:58And so I said, wow, you know, if you're wanting to part with such
- 1:34:02a thing, it would, I'm honored that you'd want to pass it to me
- 1:34:08because there's so much history, You know, when, when, when you
- 1:34:11wear something on your body, especially something of a
- 1:34:13religious artifact or a religious symbol like that,
- 1:34:17that, that is, that is very much tied to the person.
- 1:34:21And then when they want to part with it, you know, the, the
- 1:34:25thinking of like, I understand, like there's, there's a lot of
- 1:34:27different reasons why they might not want to, they don't
- 1:34:30associate with it anymore. It's not something that they
- 1:34:32typically they don't technically believe in or pursue.
- 1:34:36So they want to depart with it, but they don't want to depart
- 1:34:37with it and just toss it. They want to pass it to, to, to
- 1:34:41some. So they still have a sense of
- 1:34:43its meaning, its importance, and for them to come out and reach
- 1:34:48to me and say, Hey, would you like to, to take this?
- 1:34:51It was almost like a, like a, like a passing of a, of an
- 1:34:53artifact. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:34:55I, I don't want to get rid of it, but I want it to be taken
- 1:34:58care of and, and appreciated by somebody.
- 1:35:01And it what was interesting again is that, that, that, that
- 1:35:04me only or pendant was worn by that singer, that singer.
- 1:35:07They they reached out to me today and delivered it to me in
- 1:35:10hand seven years to the day ago when they wore it.
- 1:35:15And I owe them last one. One of the last times I saw them
- 1:35:18was on that stage. Oh wow, yeah.
- 1:35:20And I got the and I got that necklace that they wore 7 years
- 1:35:24ago and it's been all over the country, different places, you
- 1:35:28know, and they still had it and it, and it came to me how weird,
- 1:35:32meaning like WYRD, how weird is that?
- 1:35:36Yeah, it's kind of like how, well, the reason why I gifted
- 1:35:41mine to him is he was in a in a bad place because his his step
- 1:35:45dad was on his deathbed when he was here.
- 1:35:47So he did, he passed away, his mom then followed from cancer
- 1:35:55and stuff. But I, I get to tell him, not
- 1:35:56because he was following the path, but as a sign of our
- 1:36:00friendship more often. And plus I, we were going to the
- 1:36:05rent. We went to the Tennessee rent
- 1:36:07for that, that that year as last year as well.
- 1:36:10And I gifted it to him too, so he can look the part, you know,
- 1:36:15as well. The instead of like, it's like
- 1:36:18you just, you know, just keep this thing and just take it back
- 1:36:21with you, the to to Wales with you and as a, as a symbol of our
- 1:36:26friendship kind of thing. Oh, so he's from, he's from,
- 1:36:29from, from Wales. He's from here, but.
- 1:36:32He. He.
- 1:36:34Moved to OK, he he married a a woman from Manchester 10 or
- 1:36:41Manchester, Manchester 10 Shire or Manchester Shire yeah.
- 1:36:48OK. Yeah, England and they moved
- 1:36:52from, they moved there from the he moved over there with her
- 1:36:55after they married. Gotcha.
- 1:36:57And then he moved from, they both moved from there to
- 1:37:03somewhere in Wales. Like I can't remember exactly
- 1:37:05where, but they live near the coast.
- 1:37:08OK. So they live like like down near
- 1:37:16a base, kind of like, it's kind of like a base kind of like
- 1:37:19where it's like the whales version of our Blue Angels.
- 1:37:25OK, so like their their, their Air Force or their?
- 1:37:28Their training base, it's kind of like where where are the Blue
- 1:37:32Angels here train is down in Pensacola, FL.
- 1:37:35So it's kind of like their their version of Pensacola, their
- 1:37:38Pensacola training base for their version of Blue Angels.
- 1:37:42It's the red something but. The Red Barons.
- 1:37:48No, I don't. Know that's that's Snoopy.
- 1:37:49Never mind that. Yeah, it's it's I forgot what
- 1:37:54the name of their their group is called, but they kind of do the
- 1:37:57stunts and the little formation stunts and everything like that.
- 1:38:02But they moved there and he came back over, he came back over
- 1:38:07here to to take care of his mom, his mom well and or take care of
- 1:38:12his his stepfather while his one with the chemo treatments, but.
- 1:38:21So anyway, he got he got your Mjolnir and he brought it back
- 1:38:24to Wales when he. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the sounds of
- 1:38:28our friendship. That's cool, yeah.
- 1:38:30Does he still have it? Huh.
- 1:38:32Does. He still have it.
- 1:38:35I'm assuming he does. I haven't communicated to him
- 1:38:37since then, but we we do communicate every now and then,
- 1:38:43but we don't communicate as often as we should.
- 1:38:47But I'm assuming he did keep it. Yeah, it's, it's only been a
- 1:38:51year since about a year since he had it, since he left.
- 1:38:54And but I, I gave it to him as a, as a the keep to put that at
- 1:38:59least put my own look into him, you know?
- 1:39:04Yeah. Not not to convert him or
- 1:39:06anything. It was not to do that.
- 1:39:08I was just saying here, just keep this as a sight, as a
- 1:39:11symbol of our friendship. Our friendship?
- 1:39:13Sure. Sure.
- 1:39:14Yeah. It's don't believe in this stuff
- 1:39:17like I do. It's something, it's a part of
- 1:39:20me. It's something meaningful to me.
- 1:39:23I've worn it for so many years. I had retired as my main mule
- 1:39:26near for this one that I wear now, this little small one,
- 1:39:29because I went the humble route, you know.
- 1:39:34But that big old gaudy, like, you know, was it Flava Flav with
- 1:39:38the huge clock, you know? Yeah, I had the big, they had
- 1:39:41the big the big wolf's head thing, King's wolf.
- 1:39:45Head Oh, the King's chains. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:39:46Yeah, it was the one I got for rim Frost and stuff.
- 1:39:49And so that was and that's so I retired that as my main mule
- 1:39:55near and then I have that other one I got from Zeb that I still
- 1:40:00use for a ritual. He makes some good pieces, man.
- 1:40:04Everybody that we still alive here.
- 1:40:08Yep, there he is. Yeah, you, you froze.
- 1:40:11Sorry, Yeah, you did too. And I was like, did we lose
- 1:40:13them? Did did I lose me?
- 1:40:14Anyway, we're back. But Zeb Croom Skogermore.
- 1:40:18Yeah, good, good quality stuff. Y'all Y'all check him out for
- 1:40:22sure. We need to get, we need to
- 1:40:24somehow get, get him down here to the out North Alabama side
- 1:40:28because to perform and stuff. You want to know something
- 1:40:30funny? That man, I love that man.
- 1:40:33I'm I'm I've been friends with him for longer than I've been
- 1:40:37friends with bright spirit JM. You know, JM the Albatier,
- 1:40:44right? I've been Zeb longer than I've
- 1:40:47been friends with, with, with JM at the albatier.
- 1:40:50It's because of me that those two guys know each other and
- 1:40:53that the I I introduced them. But and and and Zeb comes over
- 1:40:58to Tennessee. I wouldn't say often, but he has
- 1:41:02it. His tattoo artist Luke is, is in
- 1:41:04out of Hendersonville and his tattoo artist and, and his wife
- 1:41:08are are are they, they just relocated to a new tattoo shop.
- 1:41:12She's going through cancer treatments.
- 1:41:14It's a whole big thing. So he comes back and forth and
- 1:41:16I'm like, dude, you're in Hendersonville.
- 1:41:18I'm an hour from you. Normally we're like 6 hours
- 1:41:21apart. And then you come out here and
- 1:41:23then I'll find out like after the fact.
- 1:41:24I'll find out after the fact that he was here.
- 1:41:26And I'm like, you couldn't tell me man.
- 1:41:28Like you couldn't let me know. I'm like, he's like, well, I was
- 1:41:31in and out. I'm like, yeah, no shit, like
- 1:41:34hang out a while, you know, like stay in then don't you realize,
- 1:41:36you know, you got you, you know, for it to for it to for it to be
- 1:41:39enjoyable, you got to stay in there for a little while.
- 1:41:41You can't just in and out. Bam, bam, bam.
- 1:41:44Thank you, ma'am, like, you know, holler at you, boy.
- 1:41:47Let me know you're in town so I can you know, but he does.
- 1:41:50He comes over here, not a lot, but it's it's frequently enough
- 1:41:53where I've given him some shit and some said, brother, if you
- 1:41:56if you watch this now, you know, don't see it now, but if you see
- 1:41:59this later, you know, next time you come to Tennessee, you, you
- 1:42:02better let me know and make sure that we see each other because
- 1:42:05I'm not going to. We need to get you.
- 1:42:06Different answer. Say that again.
- 1:42:13Like bring him to some of our role, bring him to some of our
- 1:42:16little gatherings and stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he stays busy.
- 1:42:22I know like with the, with the events that go on out in, in
- 1:42:25North Carolina, the the Viking experience, Norse forge
- 1:42:29gathering, you know, all those things like he's, he performs at
- 1:42:32those, Plus he also vents. So all his craft work and things
- 1:42:37come that he, that he, that he puts together with him and his
- 1:42:40girl, like they, they, they sell stuff.
- 1:42:42Plus he performs, he's busy and like festival.
- 1:42:44Seasons are crazy. Plus whatever his regular job.
- 1:42:47But yeah, we do. We got to get him to to take
- 1:42:49Skogemore on the road and do a little bit tour or something,
- 1:42:52you know, with you get up there and do some stuff.
- 1:42:55We do them on stage. Yeah, we do.
- 1:42:57We do some. We put together some kind of
- 1:42:59show or something at the meetery here, kind of.
- 1:43:03Yeah. I'll tell you what, though, if
- 1:43:06you've never like, I don't think there's a lot of video footage
- 1:43:09of his live production. There's some clips, there's some
- 1:43:13things that I know I've put out there, and I don't know who else
- 1:43:15has done it. Yeah, but he has a whole man.
- 1:43:18He has a whole like stage production.
- 1:43:21He's got this big mask with deer antlers and stuff that he comes
- 1:43:24out. To I'm still working on my safe
- 1:43:26presence and stuff. You know, it's like I still just
- 1:43:29use my tunic and stuff right now.
- 1:43:30But I do eventually want to come out of create some kind of mask
- 1:43:34or some kind of mysterious thing going on, but I'm just toying
- 1:43:37with things right now. I like the the simplicity and
- 1:43:42and I don't mean that in like a bad way, because I know
- 1:43:44sometimes people go as simple as like negative.
- 1:43:46No, I thought I like the simple, the the the authentic.
- 1:43:49It's very traditional to me, the way you know, and because it's
- 1:43:54like a, it's a, it's a nod to your namesake.
- 1:43:56You know skaldic works, you know, you think of what what a
- 1:43:59skald may have, you know had in in terms of their.
- 1:44:04Yeah. We call attire and things and it
- 1:44:08was probably modest, you know, it wasn't anything even though
- 1:44:11they were a very important person to the like the mobility.
- 1:44:14I mean, the skald was was the the storyteller.
- 1:44:17So the, the retelling of, of great tales and, and heroics and
- 1:44:21things like they had a place in the King's courts and, and
- 1:44:23stuff. So they were important people,
- 1:44:25but I'm sure that their, their, their day-to-day attire or
- 1:44:29whatever was, was pretty modest and simple, nothing too crazy.
- 1:44:33So it's almost like, you know, in, in, in that in that
- 1:44:35simplistic way, you're, you're preserving that the, the title
- 1:44:40is called, you know, and, and upholding it in a very humble
- 1:44:43and honorable sort of way. Yeah, I was also thinking about
- 1:44:46like one of these days just go doing like a hooded cloak kind
- 1:44:49of thing. Yeah.
- 1:44:51Wherever just my eyes are not visible, you know?
- 1:44:54Yeah, that. That and it's kind of like
- 1:44:57similar if are you familiar with they're not together anymore.
- 1:45:02Right now they're called say the Say the Bloat.
- 1:45:06Yeah, Yep. They played in like like monk
- 1:45:10robes and stuff at one point and I was like, I want to do
- 1:45:15something like that with a more of a more mysterious look to it
- 1:45:20and put and put like a more ambience to it.
- 1:45:23Yeah. My performances, yeah.
- 1:45:25Get a few fog machines or something you know.
- 1:45:28Oh yeah, or get like or get like a skull like right here with a
- 1:45:37hood over it or something. Oh yeah.
- 1:45:39Like a prop. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:45:42Kind of thing going on. I'm I'm just toying it out
- 1:45:45around with eyes right now. See, if I had a, if I had a
- 1:45:50stage prop, it'd probably be like a, a great big Heron or
- 1:45:54something, you know? Oh yeah.
- 1:45:56That'd be kind of hip. Or like a Heron outfit.
- 1:46:02Yeah, like a cloak full of feathers or something, you know
- 1:46:04what I mean? Yeah, like you have feathers
- 1:46:05tied to your, like you have like a wing.
- 1:46:07Like you have wings down here. Oh yeah, Like, yeah, yeah, like
- 1:46:11your arms. Yeah, hell yeah, yeah.
- 1:46:15And then have like a beak. Just a big yellow branch hanging
- 1:46:21off my face. Yeah, like a, like a or like a,
- 1:46:24like a big, like black branch or something.
- 1:46:26Like a beak or something. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:46:27And it's like you have a hood right here.
- 1:46:29The mimic. Yeah.
- 1:46:33I might be, I might be a costume.
- 1:46:35Yeah. It might be a like a like a,
- 1:46:37like a ritual costume or something to make for if I ever
- 1:46:41get to to to telling my saga of the Heron that flew to hell.
- 1:46:45Yeah. It's like you.
- 1:46:47Haven't heard that one yet. Yeah, I don't know how I'm going
- 1:46:49to wear a horse mask. The horses skull will be kind of
- 1:46:54interesting, kind of like Mary Lude kind of ideal.
- 1:46:58Yeah, yeah. Well, you got to watch out
- 1:47:00though, because in that culture it's with, it's one thing, but
- 1:47:02then you talk about horse heads on sticks, you know, that's an
- 1:47:04even pole. Yeah, well, it's the purpose
- 1:47:08behind it. It's like, right.
- 1:47:10It's like Mary Lude is a different concept, though.
- 1:47:13It's like a hobby horse kind of thing.
- 1:47:17That's a Welsh tradition. Isn't it, well, tradition?
- 1:47:19Yeah. Where she comes and they you
- 1:47:22have to sing to her, she sings to you or something like that.
- 1:47:26It's like a rap battle. Yeah, it's kind of yeah.
- 1:47:29It's kind of like fighting. It's kind of like it's kind of
- 1:47:31like flying, but in song, I think, and you suppose it's
- 1:47:34supposed to be she's Mary Laweth comes in and makes rhymes about
- 1:47:40how you how you're supposed to let her in.
- 1:47:44And then you're supposed to come up with rhymes until that why
- 1:47:48you shouldn't let her in. And it goes back and forth until
- 1:47:52the homeowner does not cannot come back with any more comment.
- 1:47:57And then if that happens, they go, it comes in and rage your
- 1:48:00liquor. Yeah, but it's a Christmas.
- 1:48:04It's a Christmas tradition, apparently.
- 1:48:06Yeah, and it's not just they don't just rage your liquor,
- 1:48:10they just also sing songs, play games as well.
- 1:48:14Yeah, yeah, it's. Like the whole procession kind
- 1:48:17of thing that comes in with it. You have a?
- 1:48:20Yeah. They rage, They rage the.
- 1:48:23Hobby wars and then you have like the handlers.
- 1:48:27Yep, it's. Kind of like Wassling.
- 1:48:30Yeah, that's interesting. It's it was first recorded in
- 1:48:35the in 1800, with subsequent amount accounts of it being
- 1:48:39produced into the early 20th century.
- 1:48:43This is tradition performed at Christmas time by groups of men
- 1:48:46who would accompany the horse on its travels across the local
- 1:48:48area. And although the make of such
- 1:48:50groups vary, they typically included art or they included an
- 1:48:57individual to carry the horse, a leader and the individuals
- 1:49:00dressed as stock characters such as Punch and Judy.
- 1:49:05Punch and Judy is a traditional puppet show anyway, so the men
- 1:49:09would carry the merry load to local houses.
- 1:49:11They would then request entry through song.
- 1:49:14The householders would be expected to deny them entry
- 1:49:17again through song, and then the two sides would continue their
- 1:49:21response to one another in this manner.
- 1:49:24And if the householders eventually relented, the team
- 1:49:27would be permitted entry and given food and drink.
- 1:49:30Yeah. To be to be in the room or to be
- 1:49:37in the the at the doorway or to be in the presence of that when
- 1:49:39it's happening. I would love to hear that.
- 1:49:41That would be so cool. Oh yeah.
- 1:49:44Would you want to be on the? Would you want to?
- 1:49:45Would you want to be on the the the the side of the door trying
- 1:49:50to gain entry? Or would you rather be on the
- 1:49:52side of the door trying to keep them out?
- 1:49:54Which would you rather be? Both.
- 1:49:59OK, well, you can't be both. I wouldn't experience.
- 1:50:01I wouldn't mind being having the experience of doing both.
- 1:50:04OK, let's say you got invited to one right now.
- 1:50:05Let's say you got invited to a Christmas Welsh Mary Lloyd
- 1:50:09procession and they said you got to be on the the, the the Mary
- 1:50:12Lloyd side or you got to be on the householder side.
- 1:50:14Which would you, which would you?
- 1:50:15I would probably. I'll probably be on the Mary
- 1:50:18Lloyd side. You want to gain entry to get
- 1:50:21food and. The drink.
- 1:50:23But I also would like to see what they what kind of stories
- 1:50:26they would tell and what kind of because when they get gain
- 1:50:28entry, they will tell stories and sing songs and stuff and
- 1:50:32make merry. And then the hobby horse was
- 1:50:34just running around like a little kind of like a gesture
- 1:50:37kind of like thing. Well, it's funny, like they say
- 1:50:40that it's, you know, the on on this side, the gaining of entry
- 1:50:43is done through song. So you would imagine it's almost
- 1:50:47like, if you think of like the old is, is is a the the the the
- 1:50:56Three Little Pigs, you know, the big bad wolf, little pig, little
- 1:50:59pig. Let me in.
- 1:51:00Yeah, Hong. And then what they say, not by
- 1:51:03the hair of my chin, chin, chin, you know, And I wonder if it's
- 1:51:05something like that. I wonder if it's something like
- 1:51:07that, but the Welsh version of it, where you know, there's a
- 1:51:10traditional meter or something that they keep.
- 1:51:14Yeah, or I was saying that they say yeah.
- 1:51:16Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I just I.
- 1:51:20Wonder how many people actually just relent fun in it.
- 1:51:25Yeah. How about say that one more
- 1:51:28time? Because you kind of.
- 1:51:29Broke up. I mean, they probably, they
- 1:51:31probably try and then they just give up after a while.
- 1:51:34It's like, come in. Fine, here, have a cookie.
- 1:51:38You know, I don't know if I if I had, I would want to be on the
- 1:51:43side of of being in the inner. I would want to be in the
- 1:51:45household. And here's why I would want to
- 1:51:47see if I can do if I can best the merry lode right, If I can,
- 1:51:50if I can do better than that, if I can out outwit you or out sing
- 1:51:55you like I would be my that would be why I would want to be
- 1:51:58on that side. Oh.
- 1:51:59Yeah. But at the same time, I could do
- 1:52:02I, I would like to try to get my way in.
- 1:52:04Like how relentless can I be? You know, we try.
- 1:52:07Let me try. I would also like to see what
- 1:52:09they do when they come in too. Yeah.
- 1:52:12Is there like a play form already?
- 1:52:14Like what they, what they do inside?
- 1:52:16Because I again, they do games, they do all kinds of thing.
- 1:52:19They'll hang around for just a little bit and then they go to
- 1:52:22the next door, you know, and that's how I go door to door.
- 1:52:25And then they'll come in for a little bit, play games, tell
- 1:52:29stories and then move on. Yeah.
- 1:52:33And. Yeah, they never stick around
- 1:52:35for very long. They just hit their yeah.
- 1:52:37Their target? It's like a.
- 1:52:38Next. Yeah.
- 1:52:39It's like maybe about 15 to 30 minutes and then they go on,
- 1:52:42Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:52:46But imagine if it was actually liquor involved though and
- 1:52:48you're the one that in get trying to gain entry and you
- 1:52:50gain entry a bunch of times and you're just raiding liquor.
- 1:52:56Yeah, the, the games wouldn't last for very long.
- 1:52:58You'd be like, you might get a few houses in and then you'd be
- 1:53:01like, I, I, you know, you'd start losing a lot.
- 1:53:06Yeah. You'd lose your wits and you'd
- 1:53:08lose the game, and then you wouldn't gain an entry no more,
- 1:53:10and then you just end up passed out on some poor farmer's lawn
- 1:53:13or something, you know? Unless you're able to be still
- 1:53:16removed over time while drunk. But I mean that's possible.
- 1:53:22Or there's a way that, or there's a way they continue to
- 1:53:25drink and remain so sober enough by eating stuff.
- 1:53:30That's the trick, that's the trick.
- 1:53:32You got to be able to, you got to, you got to start off on a
- 1:53:34full stomach and then you got to eat right things along the way.
- 1:53:37So there's a strategy behind this.
- 1:53:39There's got to be. Lots of lots of cakes and
- 1:53:41cookies I guess. Cakes, some fatty meats, maybe
- 1:53:45you know, some, some salted pork or something, you know.
- 1:53:50Oh yeah. Yeah, that sodium.
- 1:53:54Keep those electrolytes up. Yeah, like something whatever is
- 1:53:57like in the household or whatever is traditional of that
- 1:54:01time, like the for merry making and stuff.
- 1:54:05Yeah, it's like old wine and isn't it?
- 1:54:09Oh yeah, some where the wherever they had for cakes, for cookies
- 1:54:16or sweets then farts. Probably, yeah.
- 1:54:20I don't know. I guess, you know, it's it's
- 1:54:22winter time. So, yeah, they're, they're
- 1:54:25probably, you know, a lot of the grains that they've stored up.
- 1:54:30Well, this is also the 1800s, you know, like, so we're not
- 1:54:32talking like the evil times or anything.
- 1:54:36They got, they got. This is like Victorian times.
- 1:54:40Yeah. Well, yeah, probably so.
- 1:54:41But I'm sure, I'm sure that they still had to harvest their
- 1:54:44grains in the in the fall and had any canned goods, you know,
- 1:54:50any fruits from the summer that they had canned.
- 1:54:52But it was probably pretty basic.
- 1:54:54I'm sure they had some meats and stuff that they smoked or they,
- 1:54:57they had from the hunts and you know, they would go on or
- 1:55:00they're, they're because we used to, I remember growing up, we
- 1:55:03used to, we used to slaughter our steers in the spring for the
- 1:55:08summer and the fall eating. So we would always do 2
- 1:55:13slaughters a year. We would do one in the spring
- 1:55:15and one in the fall and that way we had enough meat to last us
- 1:55:19through the winter. But during the winter we were
- 1:55:23also hunting. So we didn't have necessarily
- 1:55:26steers and, you know, fattening up to for slaughter, but we were
- 1:55:29harvesting venison and turkeys and.
- 1:55:32Geese and. Things like.
- 1:55:34That and there's probably also like other things that they did
- 1:55:38because a lot lot of older traditions too was like dried
- 1:55:41fruits and stuff. Yeah, 'cause I mean the last
- 1:55:45nuts. Nuts, Yeah.
- 1:55:48You know, like chestnuts. Walnuts.
- 1:55:51Deez Nuts got him. No, it's good.
- 1:55:58I had to throw that in there. Yeah, that's that's probably how
- 1:56:03they did it. I don't know, but I think we're
- 1:56:08going to wrap this one up there. Blake.
- 1:56:10It's been a couple hours, so I. Think we got got a little off of
- 1:56:13the Pagan subject there. It was a definite, I mean, it's
- 1:56:18cool, though. It's definitely, we definitely
- 1:56:20leaned into the randomness of the ramblings this week.
- 1:56:23Yeah. Had a few cool comments and
- 1:56:25questions come in. It was pretty, pretty
- 1:56:27lightweight tonight on the on the audience.
- 1:56:30But that's, you know, that's just what, that's the way it
- 1:56:35goes sometimes, you know? Yeah.
- 1:56:38What we got here, Schizo says. Before I gave up the drink, I
- 1:56:41had a 75. I had 75 shots at my sister's
- 1:56:45wedding. How are you still?
- 1:56:48How were you still walking straight after 75 shots?
- 1:56:51Shots of what is it? It couldn't have been anything
- 1:56:55that strong. Goodness gracious.
- 1:56:57I don't know whether to congratulate you or to to to to
- 1:57:01scold you there, Sir, I don't know, but.
- 1:57:04Was it jello shots? Jello shots good, but I mean
- 1:57:06shit, even even after that you might not be.
- 1:57:09You might not be drunk with you'd have diabetes.
- 1:57:13Jello shot goodness. You too, Bernard.
- 1:57:19I have AI have a friend, one of my friend's best friends.
- 1:57:21He's also he didn't like me. He's he's my closest mate and he
- 1:57:30he got drunk at my friend's wedding.
- 1:57:33The one I told you about. It's in Wales.
- 1:57:37He got he got, he got Harry was just kidding.
- 1:57:39We didn't work out and it was like what we were kind of like,
- 1:57:42like for a while. And the first time I ever seen
- 1:57:45him like up Chuck beer. 80 proof.
- 1:57:49Oh man, 75 shots of 80 proof liquor.
- 1:57:56Look, even if let's, let's do the math.
- 1:57:58So like, let's say the wedding is, yeah, five hours long.
- 1:58:02You know, let's just be generous.
- 1:58:04Let's just say, you know, from 5:00 in the evening to 11:00 at
- 1:58:07night and you're drinking 75 shots.
- 1:58:10Let's break that down. So in if you do 10 shots an hour
- 1:58:15for five hours, that's still only fifty shots.
- 1:58:18Yeah, in 60 minutes, you have to have a shot every 5 to 7
- 1:58:27minutes, you know what I mean? Like, there's no freaking.
- 1:58:32There's no way, dude. How?
- 1:58:35Who's keeping count? How?
- 1:58:37Who is keeping count? There ain't no way.
- 1:58:38There ain't no way, man. There ain't no way.
- 1:58:41I mean, I guess there's a way. How are?
- 1:58:42You alive? How are you?
- 1:58:45How? How's your liver?
- 1:58:47How many? How's that liver doing?
- 1:58:49Right. Yeah.
- 1:58:50Have you talked to him lately? Is he, is he OK?
- 1:58:52Like, I mean, it's gracious. I mean, I'm conservative with my
- 1:58:55drinks, man. It's like I can't even, I don't
- 1:58:57drink excessive, you know? Yeah.
- 1:59:01And I mean, even in my raziest, wildest days, which I on the
- 1:59:06scale of crazy, I never got very wild.
- 1:59:10But I mean, I was, I was a young red blooded American.
- 1:59:13I mean, I've, I've, I've been in some pretty, you know,
- 1:59:18situations where I, I put my, my shit to the test, but no like 75
- 1:59:23shots at a wedding. Yeah.
- 1:59:27Maybe. I mean, damn.
- 1:59:28Yeah. I would, I would.
- 1:59:31I would pass out within with I mean.
- 1:59:36I would probably be 6 feet under.
- 1:59:38Yeah, that's. Or lower.
- 1:59:41Yeah. Oh man.
- 1:59:43Well, on that note, stay hydrated everybody.
