- 0:00Speaker 1: Big ninety eight point seven Today's Variety Pike and Amanda
- 0:04Speaker 1: in the morning.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Amanda take it from here. Well, hey, good morning everyone.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's me Pike and I just one on one here,
- 0:15Speaker 1: like if you had missed it over the last couple
- 0:17Speaker 1: of days. Decided to leave the show. So this will
- 0:20Speaker 1: be officially the last time you'll hear me on this station.
- 0:23Speaker 1: That's not true. You'll probably hear the random commercial for
- 0:26Speaker 1: the hot Tub company playing random times, but other than that,
- 0:31Speaker 1: that'll be it for the show. So I'm joined now
- 0:33Speaker 1: by Amanda, my longtime co host and friend. When we
- 0:38Speaker 1: go back, Oh my go thousand and eight.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Two thousand and nine, I've been here fifteen years.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah, long story. So I actually started I was in
- 0:44Speaker 2: high school.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I was literally going into my senior year at Dilwarth
- 0:47Speaker 1: Glennon Feldon. And it was kind of crazy how it
- 0:50Speaker 1: worked out, because I remember just wanting to be on
- 0:52Speaker 1: the radio, and I don't even know why. I just
- 0:55Speaker 1: liked being silly, you know, I liked making people laugh,
- 0:58Speaker 1: and so I was like, well, I got to do
- 1:00Speaker 1: to be on the radio. And so a friend of
- 1:03Speaker 1: mine who had a mom that worked at this stage
- 1:06Speaker 1: the building literally that we're sitting in right now, hooked
- 1:10Speaker 1: me up with this part time job. I was like
- 1:11Speaker 1: wearing a frog mascot and just you know, doing every
- 1:14Speaker 1: little thing I could. And that was I mean, I
- 1:17Speaker 1: guess I was seventeen years old. I'm thirty four now,
- 1:19Speaker 1: so you do the math. But that's one half of
- 1:22Speaker 1: my time on this earth doing the same thing. So
- 1:26Speaker 1: it's a little weird right now to be saying audios.
- 1:30Speaker 1: But you know, if you missed it, the reason was,
- 1:33Speaker 1: long story short, I have a sleep disorder. I've never
- 1:35Speaker 1: been able to fall asleep, and when I have to
- 1:38Speaker 1: get up super early, like you do for a morning
- 1:40Speaker 1: radio show, I just cannot go to bed. So many
- 1:43Speaker 1: nights a week I'm laying awake and end up just
- 1:46Speaker 1: getting out of bed and going to work because I
- 1:47Speaker 1: just can't sleep. And it's not a way to live.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I mean, you can do it, and I know a
- 1:51Speaker 1: lot of people who do do it. I've just decided
- 1:54Speaker 1: that I'm in a fortunate position to be able to say,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you know what, I don't want to do that, and
- 1:59Speaker 1: I don't have to do that, so I'm not going
- 2:01Speaker 1: to so as sad as it is to give up
- 2:04Speaker 1: something that I love doing that. I feel fortunate to
- 2:07Speaker 1: be able to do this as a job, no offense
- 2:10Speaker 1: to any other job out there. But it's pretty silly,
- 2:13Speaker 1: isn't it. I mean, no, I hear you.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and we have so much fun and yeah, have
- 2:18Speaker 3: had a blast with you. I was so glad when
- 2:20Speaker 3: you came back and it's been so awesome.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Well, thank you, man. I know you're I know you're
- 2:26Speaker 2: emotional and.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Go.
- 2:28Speaker 1: You always have been, and that's what people love about
- 2:30Speaker 1: you is that you're very open and share your life
- 2:33Speaker 1: with the world. And you know a lot of people
- 2:36Speaker 1: love that and respect that about you, and I am
- 2:39Speaker 1: one of those people. So thank you for everything you've done,
- 2:42Speaker 1: and thank you for being the coolest. People don't realize
- 2:46Speaker 1: I mean on the air, I think I hope anyway,
- 2:48Speaker 1: people see the connection we have in the rapport, which
- 2:51Speaker 1: is so important because there's a lot of radio shows
- 2:53Speaker 1: out there that they don't have that. And it's not
- 2:56Speaker 1: somebody you can manufacture or force. But when we're talking,
- 3:00Speaker 1: and even not on the radio, when we're allowed to
- 3:02Speaker 1: say bad words and talk about gross things, you don't
- 3:05Speaker 1: even realize how much more of a report we have
- 3:09Speaker 1: because we are very similar in a lot of ways,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and how we grew up and how we are now,
- 3:13Speaker 1: and so I got real lucky.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you for everything, and I am I
- 3:18Speaker 3: support you one hundred percent. With all of that being said,
- 3:23Speaker 3: I'm supposed to tie you to a chair according.
- 3:25Speaker 2: To Stephanie, so you can't leave.
- 3:27Speaker 3: But that chair is going to be filled with somebody
- 3:30Speaker 3: who's amazing. And we're so excited Gabe has joined this team.
- 3:35Speaker 3: No no awkwardness here, game.
- 3:38Speaker 2: No, you're watching a public breakup.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I've only known you two weeks, so it's a far
- 3:46Speaker 1: cry from the fifteen over here.
- 3:47Speaker 2: But I know you're a good guy. And of course
- 3:50Speaker 2: we have oh sorry, hid the.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Way that you've gotten Facebook club, Like, how many videos
- 3:54Speaker 3: do we have of me bawling my eyes out? I
- 3:56Speaker 3: really appreciate that I get to be the Kim Kardashian
- 3:58Speaker 3: a Fargo with the ugly cry all the time.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Thank you? Well, your makeup did look great, I'll give
- 4:02Speaker 2: you that. Maybe he did today.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Gay, I get the most fun job in the world,
- 4:09Speaker 4: and uh and by that I mean the worst. It
- 4:12Speaker 4: would be so much easier if Pike was just like
- 4:14Speaker 4: kind of a jerk to me and he has been
- 4:17Speaker 4: nothing but just so kind and generous and helpful for
- 4:20Speaker 4: the past month.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And yes, Bike.
- 4:24Speaker 4: And I I really think in like twenty seven days,
- 4:27Speaker 4: I kind of feel like I have a buddy, you know,
- 4:29Speaker 4: for forever, and I'm glad you'll still be you know,
- 4:32Speaker 4: around to some extent and we get to play golf
- 4:35Speaker 4: and uh, we've already kind of talked about getting that
- 4:38Speaker 4: going in the next summer or whatever whatever that April.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I don't care if there's snow on the ground.
- 4:45Speaker 4: It would be so easy if you were just kind
- 4:47Speaker 4: of a jerk, but you're not. I mean, you're genuinely
- 4:49Speaker 4: a very, very nice and kind guy, and I appreciate
- 4:52Speaker 4: that so much, which makes it kind of hard coming
- 4:55Speaker 4: in on Monday. You can't replace a Pike. It's not possible.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I can't be Pike. I won't be Pike. But I
- 5:01Speaker 4: am excited to just see what happens next. I'm kind
- 5:04Speaker 4: of excited to grow a friendship with Amanda and just
- 5:07Speaker 4: see what we you know, kind of come up with,
- 5:09Speaker 4: come up with and what we do. But I will
- 5:11Speaker 4: miss having Pike in the building as well. You's been
- 5:13Speaker 4: amazing to me and I couldn't be more thankful for that.
- 5:16Speaker 3: And you were amazing, like you were so excited. There
- 5:19Speaker 3: is no better person for this job than you. So
- 5:22Speaker 3: we are very very excited for you to be a.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Partner with I agree.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And you said it best when you said you you
- 5:26Speaker 1: won't be me, and that's not good or bad, that
- 5:28Speaker 1: is just you being yourself. And that's yeah, if anything,
- 5:32Speaker 1: in seventeen years, God, it can't be that long that
- 5:35Speaker 1: I've done this. It took me a long time to
- 5:37Speaker 1: figure out that, you know, because you hear other people
- 5:39Speaker 1: on the radio and you think, oh, that's how I'm
- 5:41Speaker 1: supposed to be, right, I'm supposed to act like that guy,
- 5:44Speaker 1: And it took me so long to figure out, like
- 5:47Speaker 1: how how can I be myself and make it make
- 5:49Speaker 1: sense on the radio?
- 5:50Speaker 3: Right?
- 5:51Speaker 1: I feel like the last year and a half was
- 5:52Speaker 1: the best that that's come across, you know, so good
- 5:55Speaker 1: or bad, it would just be yourself, you know, and
- 5:58Speaker 1: I know you will be Yeah, I know you're a
- 5:59Speaker 1: good guy.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I know it's going to be good. I appreciate it.
- 6:03Speaker 1: And the people who listen to this station are the best.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I mean really, and that's what makes it so hard,
- 6:08Speaker 1: you know, because people people just say nice things, and
- 6:12Speaker 1: it just is tough because, uh, you don't want to
- 6:14Speaker 1: let them down. And that's honestly, maybe what took so
- 6:16Speaker 1: long for me to get to this point of finally
- 6:19Speaker 1: deciding to let it go is that I feel like
- 6:22Speaker 1: people care and it's a good thing. It's a fortunate
- 6:24Speaker 1: thing for people to care about the job that you're doing. Yeah,
- 6:28Speaker 1: you know, not many jobs are like that. Like if
- 6:29Speaker 1: the lady who uh deposited my cash at Northwest Bank
- 6:33Speaker 1: yesterday left, I'd be like, oh, she's gone. Now.
- 6:35Speaker 2: That sucks.
- 6:36Speaker 1: It's makes it so hard when people care about it,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and I feel like I'm letting people down. I feel
- 6:42Speaker 1: like I'm like looking silly because I just came back
- 6:45Speaker 1: to this radio station a year and a half ago.
- 6:47Speaker 1: So anyway, just to let you on the inside of
- 6:48Speaker 1: what I've been going through, I struggle with, like what
- 6:52Speaker 1: going forward? How am I going to have this outlet
- 6:54Speaker 1: that I had every morning to come in here and
- 6:56Speaker 1: joke around with Amanda and talk about topical, funny things
- 6:59Speaker 1: or serious things at times. You know, we've done so
- 7:02Speaker 1: much with our big Christmas wish. How am I gonna
- 7:04Speaker 1: get that out now? And I told my wife well,
- 7:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to literally every morning wake you up
- 7:09Speaker 1: and just start saying stuff to you. I'm gonna pull
- 7:11Speaker 1: up my phone and just pull up Twitter and just
- 7:13Speaker 1: start commenting on news stories.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And she'll love that, of course. But it's gonna be weird.
- 7:19Speaker 2: It's gonna be weird to not be on the radio.
- 7:20Speaker 1: But again, I'll be around for everybody who you know,
- 7:23Speaker 1: missed the initial announcement. What am I doing? Why am
- 7:26Speaker 1: I leaving? You're not gonna hear me on a radio station.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just not gonna do that. I'm not
- 7:31Speaker 1: an idiot. I don't think I have plans and motivations
- 7:35Speaker 1: to you know, pay my bills at the end of
- 7:37Speaker 1: the day. I'm not retiring by any means. So you
- 7:40Speaker 1: didn't win the lottery. I thought that's what this is
- 7:42Speaker 1: all about, would be so go to Vegas in January,
- 7:45Speaker 1: so that'll likely be the end of my time working.
- 7:47Speaker 1: But no, I have you know, I think I got
- 7:50Speaker 1: a plan, So I'll be all right, I'll be all good.
- 7:53Speaker 1: It'll just be weird to not be on the radio
- 7:54Speaker 1: at the end of the day. So thank you all
- 7:56Speaker 1: so much for allowing me to do that, and Uh,
- 8:01Speaker 1: it wouldn't be It wouldn't be me if it wasn't
- 8:04Speaker 1: a little bit awkward right at the end here.
- 8:06Speaker 3: No, we love you, thank you for everything. I know
- 8:09Speaker 3: a lot of people are chiming in on Facebook they're
- 8:11Speaker 3: going to miss you. But I do know, Gabe, here's
- 8:13Speaker 3: the good news. And he had said it, but Fargo
- 8:15Speaker 3: is going to wrap their arms around you, and we
- 8:17Speaker 3: cannot wait for you to fill his shoes.
- 8:20Speaker 2: In this share on Monday eight and a half, I'll
- 8:22Speaker 2: say it, Oh okay, how about you. Wow, this is
- 8:25Speaker 2: where it gets. I'm saying nine and a half, go ahead.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Ten and a half. I got a big feet, I
- 8:31Speaker 4: got big feet, tiny hands.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Ronald McDonald sounds like, oh my gosh, thank you Gabe. Again.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Fargo is the best. I mean, yes, it's cold.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And I tell everybody this who's considering moving here or
- 8:42Speaker 1: who asked me when I was in Florida, God, what's
- 8:44Speaker 1: it like living in Fargo? And I just it's the best.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I'll always defend it. We all are very aware of
- 8:49Speaker 1: how cold it gets, but I think it makes you
- 8:51Speaker 1: a better person, that's right.
- 8:52Speaker 4: It toughens you up a little bit. You gotta go
- 8:53Speaker 4: through some adversity. I'm a firm believer of that, and
- 8:56Speaker 4: minus thirty is adversity.
- 8:57Speaker 2: There you go, yes, and you'll be great.
- 8:59Speaker 1: So next Monday we'll start it with a Gabe and Amanda,
- 9:02Speaker 1: but for one last time, it's been piking Amanda in
- 9:04Speaker 1: the morning. And I'm going to end this show the
- 9:06Speaker 1: same way my band Low Standards, which will continue to exist.
- 9:10Speaker 3: By the way, Oh, I knew you were going to
- 9:12Speaker 3: have to give one last plug. We're never speaking of
- 9:14Speaker 3: that band.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Again, by the way.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I'm just I'm going to end this show the same
- 9:17Speaker 1: way we end every show, the way we ended the
- 9:19Speaker 1: show at the Pickled Parrot back in the day and
- 9:21Speaker 1: we still do today. So thank you all so much
