- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, just obviously thrilled. It's uh, there's no better feeling
- 0:04Speaker 1: than being on that bus on Monday night. Uh, just
- 0:06Speaker 1: being one of the last two teams standing that bus
- 0:09Speaker 1: ride to uh, you know, to the to the stadium
- 0:12Speaker 1: is just uh, it's just a cool experience. So I
- 0:14Speaker 1: look forward to, uh obviously the ability to max out
- 0:17Speaker 1: the season to get to the last game, and then
- 0:21Speaker 1: just Illinois, you know, couldn't have more respect for them
- 0:24Speaker 1: and their coach and you know in there, and they're
- 0:26Speaker 1: awesome players, and uh, you know, like we're very selective
- 0:31Speaker 1: with who we we try to play in non conference situations,
- 0:34Speaker 1: whether they're home and homes or or the series that
- 0:37Speaker 1: we're now doing with Illinois. You know, we only try
- 0:40Speaker 1: to do series with the best programs in the country.
- 0:42Speaker 1: So uh, they'll obviously have another crack at us in
- 0:45Speaker 1: Chicago next year. But uh, yeah, I just couldn't be
- 0:49Speaker 1: more proud of my guys, and uh, you know how
- 0:53Speaker 1: hard they fought when when most people, you know, probably
- 0:56Speaker 1: didn't think we were gonna win the game, or at
- 0:58Speaker 1: least a little bit of what I saw in today
- 1:01Speaker 1: you know, TNT and some of the different prognostications, So
- 1:06Speaker 1: it is great to win the game, and I had
- 1:09Speaker 1: to throw some shade.
- 1:12Speaker 2: If you have questions for Silas, Brailin or Taris, please
- 1:15Speaker 2: raise your hand.
- 1:15Speaker 3: We're gonna take questions for them first.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Robbie say you Robbie Ostella Bracketeer dot Org. My questions
- 1:22Speaker 4: for Brailn. You guys came out of the gates, both
- 1:24Speaker 4: you and Taras seem to have the sense of feeling early.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Does that any continuation from your shot in DC or
- 1:33Speaker 4: was it just kind of coming out of the gates strong.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was just kind of the flow
- 1:37Speaker 5: of the game. But I know coming into the game
- 1:38Speaker 5: I needed to shoot it with confidence, just coming off
- 1:42Speaker 5: last Sunday, just just have that flow of that momentum,
- 1:45Speaker 5: and so yeah, I mean seeing the first two go in,
- 1:47Speaker 5: it just boosts all the confidence for you to keep shooting.
- 1:50Speaker 5: So I think it just it just happened within the game.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Staying up front and center.
- 1:55Speaker 6: Zach Zach, Brazilian europe Post Tyres. There were obviously points
- 1:59Speaker 6: of the season when you're free throw shooting. I'm sure
- 2:02Speaker 6: you were disappointed in you had two big ones with
- 2:05Speaker 6: two forty six left and then think of maybe thirty
- 2:07Speaker 6: seconds left you ran for the ran to the ball
- 2:10Speaker 6: to get it to shoot. I mean, what do you
- 2:12Speaker 6: think what has changed with you at the line and
- 2:14Speaker 6: what's your confidence like at the one?
- 2:15Speaker 7: Yeah, just putting, putting the work in, trusting, trusting all
- 2:17Speaker 7: the work I put in, and yeah we stirty seconds left.
- 2:20Speaker 7: I looked at coach getting a nod, like, yo, coach,
- 2:21Speaker 7: let me let me catch all of them. Found me
- 2:23Speaker 7: on the knock these two downs, So I felt like
- 2:25Speaker 7: just trusting them the work I put in, trusting the
- 2:27Speaker 7: guys around me, and like I said, buying into the system.
- 2:30Speaker 3: We'll go to the left side of the room, Dana,
- 2:32Speaker 3: right side of the aisle, Uh.
- 2:33Speaker 8: Dana, and the SCNN sports Stilas. You had a huge,
- 2:37Speaker 8: I'm over here, huge offensive rebound, kicked it back out
- 2:39Speaker 8: to Bradlyn for that three, and you're playing, I know,
- 2:41Speaker 8: in a better ankle, but not a great angle. How
- 2:44Speaker 8: what has been your mentality part in that moment and
- 2:46Speaker 8: in this entire tournament to be able to kind of
- 2:48Speaker 8: make that kind of an effort play And that's all
- 2:50Speaker 8: that is is sheer effort, right.
- 2:52Speaker 9: Yeah, It's definitely nothing but a sure effort just to
- 2:55Speaker 9: get that rebound. It was a big time playing the game.
- 2:57Speaker 9: I think it was probably a minion some change to
- 2:59Speaker 9: go just to get that rebound. It's like coaches saying
- 3:01Speaker 9: the whole game, we got to be the first one
- 3:03Speaker 9: to the ball, like we got to make those big
- 3:04Speaker 9: time ever plays, those fifty to fifty plays. So just
- 3:07Speaker 9: knowing that being on a bum ankle, but still being
- 3:09Speaker 9: able to give him my all and leave everything out
- 3:11Speaker 9: there for my teammates, you know, just making sure I'm
- 3:14Speaker 9: not shortening them. It's a great feeling, and you know,
- 3:17Speaker 9: I'm just glad to be able to be playing another
- 3:19Speaker 9: game on Monday.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Next question for the Yukon student athletes and the left
- 3:23Speaker 3: up front dom.
- 3:24Speaker 10: Doma Marie Hurt. For current silas, it's as the games
- 3:28Speaker 10: have gone on and you've gotten deeper into tournament, it
- 3:31Speaker 10: seems like you guys have made fewer and fewer mistakes
- 3:34Speaker 10: each time, right, Hardly any turnovers today, free throws not
- 3:38Speaker 10: an issue, et cetera. In your first year here. That's
- 3:41Speaker 10: kind of the way it was the other times too.
- 3:43Speaker 10: What have you learned about Yuka?
- 3:45Speaker 3: How does that happen?
- 3:46Speaker 10: How were you guys playing more and more solid fundamentally
- 3:49Speaker 10: as the pressure gets higher and higher.
- 3:52Speaker 9: I just think that's just a testament to the coaches
- 3:54Speaker 9: just giving us confidence and setting a game plan for
- 3:57Speaker 9: us to follow. And I think us just going out
- 3:59Speaker 9: there being confident and the decisions were making, the shots
- 4:01Speaker 9: were taken, and then I think when it's winning time,
- 4:04Speaker 9: we try to connect as much as possible and have
- 4:07Speaker 9: each other's back throughout the whole time. I think even
- 4:09Speaker 9: when they had that run like late in the second half,
- 4:12Speaker 9: we tolt ourselves. We were flying. Let's just respond, and
- 4:15Speaker 9: I think we were able to do.
- 4:16Speaker 3: That going up front on the right side.
- 4:19Speaker 11: Matt Demic Daily Daily Campus Terras, you knew how good
- 4:23Speaker 11: of a rebounding team Illinois was coming into this one.
- 4:26Speaker 11: Only minus eight on the total glass, minus two on
- 4:29Speaker 11: the old glass. Does that Is that a win for
- 4:31Speaker 11: you guys? Are you happy with those numbers?
- 4:34Speaker 7: I wouldn't say so. I mean, knowing that first half
- 4:36Speaker 7: we were down losing the rebounding battle about four, So
- 4:38Speaker 7: I feel like there's such a good offensive rebounded team
- 4:41Speaker 7: being there, Like I said, locking on that side, being
- 4:42Speaker 7: able to put pressure on the offensive glass, put pressure
- 4:45Speaker 7: on the defensive glass. So I feel like we could
- 4:47Speaker 7: be better. But like I said, we escaped with the
- 4:48Speaker 7: win today, so we're blessed and thankful for that.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Continue with questions for brailing terrorists are silence on the
- 4:53Speaker 2: right side, left of the isle on Nancy.
- 4:57Speaker 12: Antam Are USA Today Sports Front For any of you guys,
- 5:00Speaker 12: you didn't have any turnovers in the first half, and
- 5:02Speaker 12: I think it was the first like four plus minutes,
- 5:04Speaker 12: so the second half before you hit your first one
- 5:07Speaker 12: finished with four. I think it was how do you
- 5:10Speaker 12: do that on a game this big and against a
- 5:13Speaker 12: team that's as physical as Illinois.
- 5:16Speaker 9: I think we just just our decision making, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 9: being confident in what move we're gonna do, if we're
- 5:21Speaker 9: gonna take a shot, take a shot, and not getting
- 5:22Speaker 9: caught in between. And I think more so Aaron on
- 5:26Speaker 9: this side of if we screened for one another and
- 5:28Speaker 9: we said a good we're gonna screen for on another,
- 5:30Speaker 9: you know, we know we can get to our spots
- 5:31Speaker 9: and hit our shots, and then you know, just being
- 5:33Speaker 9: smart with the ball. I think if the pass is
- 5:35Speaker 9: not there, rather get a shot on the rim and
- 5:37Speaker 9: try to offense rebound rather than just getting a live
- 5:40Speaker 9: ball turnover.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Stand up run on the right with Adam Hey guys.
- 5:44Speaker 13: Adam Zagoria from Forbes with Alex Caravan, I think you
- 5:48Speaker 13: would probably agree that wasn't his best game ever. But
- 5:51Speaker 13: this guy's on the brink with one more win of
- 5:53Speaker 13: winning three championships in four years. He would be the
- 5:56Speaker 13: only player not from UCLA to do that. What can
- 6:00Speaker 13: you say about what Alex has kind of meant to
- 6:03Speaker 13: the team and what would you expect from him on Monday?
- 6:08Speaker 5: Shoot, no Ak, I think Aka, he just holds the
- 6:13Speaker 5: standard with this program, and I mean, that's the guy
- 6:16Speaker 5: you look up up to on the core. He's been
- 6:18Speaker 5: through it twice. And just knowing that he has been
- 6:21Speaker 5: through it twice, you can you can use him as
- 6:23Speaker 5: an outlet. And I mean to make history with Monday
- 6:26Speaker 5: for him, I think that's what we're all trying to accomplish.
- 6:28Speaker 5: And I mean, it'd be so special for him.
- 6:32Speaker 2: On in the front on the left side, I'm deserved.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Note we're going to go to the yellow microphone. We
- 6:36Speaker 2: had a question and before you, sir, no, let's turn around.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Let's give it to right there, perfect, perfect, great job.
- 6:42Speaker 14: Thank Jake Fenner Daily Mail. I have a question for Braylan.
- 6:45Speaker 14: You started off in the first half shooting fifty percent.
- 6:48Speaker 14: Second half, you shot one for six. What is it
- 6:51Speaker 14: to keep you determined in the middle of a shooting
- 6:55Speaker 14: slump to hit such a clutch shot in that moment
- 6:57Speaker 14: that essentially ice the game.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think just coming in the second half,
- 7:02Speaker 5: just how to get the momentum from the first half,
- 7:04Speaker 5: and just you always got to shoot with confidence and
- 7:07Speaker 5: the set is gonna be ran for anybody on the team.
- 7:10Speaker 5: It's just you gotta shoot it with confidence. So I mean,
- 7:12Speaker 5: just trying to find the best look on the floor,
- 7:14Speaker 5: and I know our point guards are gonna get get
- 7:16Speaker 5: us the ball. So I mean, I think that was
- 7:18Speaker 5: the biggest shot I hit tonight.
- 7:20Speaker 2: We want to thank and congratulate Silas, Braylin and Terrorist.
- 7:23Speaker 2: They're going to head back to the locker room, which
- 7:25Speaker 2: is still open. They're also going to join us tomorrow
- 7:29Speaker 2: for some more media availability. So we begin with our
- 7:39Speaker 2: first question for coach Hurley on campus up front, yellow microphone.
- 7:46Speaker 15: Hi, Sam Callahan.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I know you, Dad's the Grandfather's the goat.
- 7:51Speaker 15: Yes, So this is your eighteenth win this season when
- 7:57Speaker 15: holding your opponent under forty pertent shooting. Just talk about
- 8:01Speaker 15: the defense throughout the course of the season, especially compared
- 8:05Speaker 15: to the defensive what was last year.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Yeah, listen, we uh, I think we spent a majority
- 8:10Speaker 1: of the year as a top five defense, and you know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: just the life and death nature of this tournament I
- 8:17Speaker 1: think has uh created the urgency and and I thought
- 8:23Speaker 1: the kind of the best thing that we did was
- 8:26Speaker 1: was get into them in the full court, and get
- 8:29Speaker 1: into them a little bit more in the half court
- 8:31Speaker 1: and move some of those you know, two man actions
- 8:35Speaker 1: a little bit further away, and you know, put them
- 8:38Speaker 1: under you know, a little bit you know, more duress.
- 8:41Speaker 1: But you know, obviously to hold them a thirty three
- 8:43Speaker 1: percent from the field, three assists, eight turnovers in the game. Uh,
- 8:50Speaker 1: we want a lot of one on one battles, not all.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But uh yeah, our defense sustained this. Ye know, we
- 8:56Speaker 1: we end up. I mean we we had so many opportunities.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I mean we we I mean we could have made
- 9:00Speaker 1: eighteen threes. I mean we had two's at the rim.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I mean, you know, we we could have played better
- 9:08Speaker 1: offensively and finished plays more. But great ball security and
- 9:11Speaker 1: the defense was elite.
- 9:14Speaker 16: On the left side of the room, coach Dana Dana
- 9:17Speaker 16: and Neelos and Sports stand kind of what I asked
- 9:19Speaker 16: I was when you have in a rock fight like this,
- 9:21Speaker 16: when you need every little play counts, how much does
- 9:23Speaker 16: it help not only having guys that are capable of
- 9:25Speaker 16: getting a rebound on a bad angle, but understand how
- 9:28Speaker 16: critically important that kind of a play is.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean we knew what it was. I mean,
- 9:32Speaker 1: you're coming into the game as a as an underdog
- 9:36Speaker 1: versus a team that you beat by thirteen points earlier
- 9:39Speaker 1: in the season, you know, which was kind of surprising.
- 9:44Speaker 1: You know that that that's how we kind of came
- 9:47Speaker 1: into the game. And obviously I've been waiting to say that,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and now I forgot your question.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Go back to Dana's mike. It's just like.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Sitting on that though.
- 10:00Speaker 8: You got it out of your system.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Just in case no one asked, that's okay.
- 10:04Speaker 8: My question was with Silas's rebound, about having the ability
- 10:07Speaker 8: have players who recognize the importance of such small players,
- 10:09Speaker 8: not just being able to do them.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah. I just thought players like you know, like Silas,
- 10:13Speaker 1: just what he's done for our basketball team, the mentality,
- 10:17Speaker 1: I mean, it was everything we were lacking last year.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Just a guard like him, ball hawk, incredible toughness on
- 10:24Speaker 1: the backboard. You know, it made you know, made Waggler
- 10:28Speaker 1: work for it, you know, made Boswell, I mean, you know,
- 10:31Speaker 1: just his on ball defense and he's a shell of
- 10:35Speaker 1: of himself offensively, I mean he is really you know,
- 10:39Speaker 1: gutting it out and hit. The courage that he has
- 10:42Speaker 1: showed I think has been inspiring for the group and
- 10:45Speaker 1: guys like Jayden Ross too. Just the defense that that
- 10:48Speaker 1: he's able to play on the perimeter. I thought that
- 10:51Speaker 1: that's obviously those were game.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Changers upfront for Zech.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Zach Brazilia New York Close Dan with Tyris. You know,
- 11:00Speaker 6: he's had games obviously where he's been incredible during the season.
- 11:04Speaker 6: You know, so when they were beat when you guys
- 11:06Speaker 6: beat Saint John's, but the consistency that you've seen in
- 11:09Speaker 6: these five and then he's making free throws, Like what
- 11:12Speaker 6: do you what do you point to of why he
- 11:15Speaker 6: all of a sudden now it's every game he's bringing it.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah. I just think, you know, these these players that
- 11:22Speaker 1: have careers and you just it's why you kind of
- 11:25Speaker 1: never give up on a player. You know, you stick
- 11:27Speaker 1: with a player. You stick with a player because of
- 11:30Speaker 1: the characteristics that he has obviously he's got enormous talent.
- 11:33Speaker 1: But he's a man of great character. He's a man
- 11:35Speaker 1: of great faith, he's got great work habits. Uh, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: he's a very humble person. Uh, he's in Uh he's
- 11:42Speaker 1: just a great, great young man. So uh, we've all
- 11:46Speaker 1: just been waiting for this from him, and uh, this
- 11:50Speaker 1: version of him, which you know, this version of him
- 11:53Speaker 1: is one of the best players in this tournament, one
- 11:55Speaker 1: of the best players left in this tournament. He's played
- 11:57Speaker 1: as well as anyone has played in this tournament. And
- 12:00Speaker 1: it's all we've ever wanted for him. Hasn't been, you know,
- 12:03Speaker 1: been an easy process, you know, and to get him there,
- 12:07Speaker 1: you know, but he's there now, and hopefully this is
- 12:11Speaker 1: the player he is for the rest of his basketball life.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Third row center.
- 12:16Speaker 17: You have a audio Joseph CBS Sports. You have a
- 12:18Speaker 17: team that averages fifteen sissis a game. You have four
- 12:22Speaker 17: playmakers on that Illinois team. You hold him to three assists.
- 12:25Speaker 17: Is that some sort of coaching strategy that you were
- 12:27Speaker 17: deploying about preventing extra passes or was that just the
- 12:31Speaker 17: nature of them missing a lot of threes?
- 12:33Speaker 1: I think a lot of that has to do with
- 12:35Speaker 1: how we guard and again, you know, like we both
- 12:38Speaker 1: could have made more shots. We'll both go back and
- 12:41Speaker 1: look at the game, you know, and see the missed opportunities,
- 12:44Speaker 1: you know. But for us, it's very important for our
- 12:47Speaker 1: players in one on one situations to be able to
- 12:52Speaker 1: hold up on an island like a cornerback you know
- 12:57Speaker 1: in football that plays a lot of man coverage, because
- 13:00Speaker 1: we do want to try to you know, take the
- 13:02Speaker 1: three point line away from you know, players like Davis
- 13:06Speaker 1: Uh you know, in this game, try to limit Wagler
- 13:08Speaker 1: to the tough contested off the dribble ones. You know,
- 13:13Speaker 1: Ben is an excellent three point shooter. We were willing
- 13:17Speaker 1: to live with uh Mrkovich uh and Eva's Izovich uh
- 13:22Speaker 1: like kind of stunt them, you know, because they were
- 13:25Speaker 1: you know, thirty percent free throw shooters. So we picked
- 13:28Speaker 1: our poison with some of the guys that we were willing,
- 13:30Speaker 1: you know, to let shoot the three.
- 13:32Speaker 3: On the right side toward the back.
- 13:35Speaker 13: Coach Justin Williams from the Athletic late in the game,
- 13:37Speaker 13: it was kind of the opposite of the Duke game
- 13:39Speaker 13: where they're closing the gap.
- 13:40Speaker 3: What was your message in the huddle to kind of
- 13:42Speaker 3: keep your guys composure.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I mean we were I thought we were just getting
- 13:45Speaker 1: great shots. I mean we were we were getting great
- 13:47Speaker 1: shots the whole way through, and that's not easy.
- 13:50Speaker 4: You know.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I thought we were able to execute, to get good
- 13:52Speaker 1: looks all over the court. You know, like we had
- 13:56Speaker 1: a great process, you know, the way we were going
- 13:58Speaker 1: about you know, our offensive execution, the efforts we were
- 14:02Speaker 1: making defensively. You know, I just thought we had a
- 14:05Speaker 1: great process and we're going about things the right way.
- 14:08Speaker 1: So you just, you know, when you're doing that as
- 14:10Speaker 1: a team and you're just not making the shots, you
- 14:12Speaker 1: just you know, hey, listen, if we get stops and
- 14:14Speaker 1: rebound the ball and don't turn it over, we're gonna
- 14:17Speaker 1: keep getting great shots. And you know, we're doing to
- 14:19Speaker 1: make a couple. And we've been in games like this
- 14:21Speaker 1: the whole year. You know, the year hasn't been a
- 14:22Speaker 1: joy ride. We haven't been a machine of destruction. We've
- 14:26Speaker 1: been a team that's had to kind of grind out
- 14:28Speaker 1: games like this. So we're we're comfortable in a possession
- 14:31Speaker 1: game like.
- 14:31Speaker 3: That final question up front, we'll wrap up on campus.
- 14:35Speaker 18: Brady Levinson UC TV On a similar note, Dan, you
- 14:38Speaker 18: talked yesterday yesterday about how this team is like the
- 14:41Speaker 18: twenty twenty three team resilience wise, and obviously down the
- 14:45Speaker 18: stretch you get in the foul trouble and the gaps closed,
- 14:47Speaker 18: and just what was it about that time period and
- 14:50Speaker 18: the resilience of this team that allowed you guys to
- 14:52Speaker 18: hold on in the end.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Yeah, we're a tough program. You know, we're a tough program.
- 14:57Speaker 1: We're a group of fighters. You know, it's not appealing
- 14:59Speaker 1: to everyone. I'm sure there's some people in here you
- 15:02Speaker 1: know that it's off putting for you know, and but
- 15:05Speaker 1: we are a group of fighters. We're incredibly tough, We've
- 15:09Speaker 1: got credible will, and we go into these games we're
- 15:14Speaker 1: ready for battle. Again. For us, it's not, you know,
- 15:17Speaker 1: a game that we're just kind of running around in uniforms,
- 15:20Speaker 1: throwing the ball around hoping it goes in. That's not
- 15:24Speaker 1: what we're doing out there. You know, We're we're fighting.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It's a life and death struggle for us to get
- 15:29Speaker 1: to Monday night, for the opportunity to win a championship. Uh,
- 15:33Speaker 1: and then just to be able to prolong this this
