- 0:01[rock music] All right, everybody.
- 0:21Welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show number 308. Which is the area code of, uh, the- Somewhere in Western Nebraska... somewhere in Nebraska. I kind of looked it up. Where St.
- 0:32Christopher, uh- I think he's from Eastern Nebraska, by- Yeah... by Lincoln. Who performed at, uh, a Hall of Shank that, uh, couple years ago, and it was an awesome show. It was an awesome show.
- 0:43And there was gonna be an awesome show this past week, and it was, uh, um... Just Scott H. Biram. Yeah. Yeah, look him up, guys. I mean, it's good stuff.
- 0:54If, if you like just, like, good- I think he calls himself the Dirty Old One-Man-Band or the old- Yeah... some, some- Like, like, a good Bluegrass, uh, hillbilly, uh, Goddamn Gallows 357 String Band, um, kind of vibe.
- 1:08Yeah. I, uh- Maybe even- Joe Buck yourself... Joe Buck yourself, bro. Yeah, exactly. Uh, just if, if you like that, you'll like him. Um, it was supposed to be [groans]
- 1:18on Monday, and I was gonna be one of those people that walked up. Yeah, me too. And- I had it planned for m- weeks... yeah. I'm not gonna buy through Ticketweb because Ticketweb is not that great of a fucking service.
- 1:31And, well, long story long, uh, [sighs] Peter Jazz decided on, on to just cancel the fucking show. 'Cause pre-sales weren't where he thought they should be. Exactly. That, he's a... Scott Biram's a walk-in guy. Yes.
- 1:47I mean- I mean- Well, uh, yeah. Yeah. You know. Whatever. I just [groans] I- Okay, so 308 Nebraska, St. Christopher- Yeah... Chris Wester, Webster. So- Boom. Yes, uh- Yeah, so- That's, that's how we went into this. Yeah.
- 2:02But I, I- And, but- So I do know, I did spend an, I spent a night for sure in the 308, not even on purpose, because I think it was Kearney, Nebraska, I was coming through, and the van, not my current one, had some issue, and I had to stop overnight so I could get the Chrysler dealer in the morning and they could take care of whatever issue it was, which I don't remember, 'cause it was a long time ago.
- 2:21Well, you kept getting these calls. But I did, but I did overnight in the 308. Oh. It's all along the North Platte River. I mean, it's just beaut- And flat... it's a, it's a great drive.
- 2:30I love that s- I love Western Nebraska. You start to get, uh, going uphill a little bit towards the Rockies just a little bit. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You're kind of going uphill a little bit. Oh, yes.
- 2:39I did r- my, I did my road trip- When you're coming back-... t-... you know, west across, when you're coming back east, you're going downhill a little bit and you get a little tailwind. You pl- feel pretty good. Oh.
- 2:48The, I wasn't paying attention on the way back. Knew it. Either you get better mileage in your vehicle, or you have a much easier ride on your bicycle the 10- I was not allowed to drive the car.
- 2:56Even in college, my buddy, we, we- [laughs] It was like, I mean, not just me, it was just, like, the pe- the people I'm, like, traveling with, they are so territorial about the car. Like, "No." Yeah.
- 3:09And it's like- I can see that... it's okay. I don't like people... I don't like- I-... when other people drive. Yeah, yeah. Dude, you're s- I'll drive, I'll drive 15 hours and- Dude, hanging out inside your armor, man...
- 3:18have passengers. You know, kinda- Yeah... whatever. I, I get it, kind of. But- Well-... I mean, we're, dude, we're in college, going on a road trip. On shrooms. It's like... Yeah.
- 3:27[laughs] Well, me, but at least, so, but all I was was just sitting in the back of a fucking Ford Escort, '83 E- Escort. [laughs] God. And I'm just like, "Yes, okay. Well, you gonna chauffeur me from,
- 3:41uh, Milwaukee to Vegas through the Rockies and hang out in Vail and... Yeah, yeah." Absolutely. I, I- So did your- I learned early... did your shrooms come in a wrapping like this?
- 3:52I mean, I'm not saying there's shrooms in here. Oh, is that the chocolaté? That's actually the, the remnants of the chocolate that- I haven't even broached my chocolate... I didn't, I didn't want to...
- 4:01This is a, so f- there was, we had our, uh, kickoff party for, uh, Bike Week here in Milwaukee, which goes for, uh, say it with me- All month... a week, or a month, whatever.
- 4:14This, but it's- Bike Week goes a month in Milwaukee... yeah, so it was, like, a kickoff party, at Amorphic, yesterday.
- 4:19And, uh, if you rode your bike, you got a piece of chocolate, which I don't know if you can see it, but it's got, it's got a bike, bicycle on it. Oh, I didn't even look. Yeah, yeah. I haven't opened mine up yet.
- 4:30Also, it's really tasty. And it had a nice note. So it was much larger yesterday. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. Well, and the little note on it. Yeah, so it was very nice. From, yeah, it's from Ian.
- 4:40So- And it said- If you drove a-... "Thank you for peddling into my life," or something like that. [laughs] Everyone had a different note. They were all very personal. Oh. And this is Ian.
- 4:48We talked, he was here last week. We did the bike, bicycle benefits and bike bingo thing. That's really good chocolate. [laughs] He's- [laughs]... he's gonna have to sit down. I- Should I get a, a- Mm... stool?
- 5:02I kind of- [laughs] Well, I kind of pigged out on it yesterday when I should have saved it, because just the little bite's really good. Yeah, right.
- 5:09And it's very thoughtful of, of those guys to do that, and it was a really good event- Yeah... at Amorphic. Um, [laughs]
- 5:16Ron's like, "I listened to your show from last week with Ian, and you said Amorphic at least seven times." I'm like, "We'll get more in this week just so you know." Amorphic what? Right? Yeah. Right. No.
- 5:26[laughs] Exactly. Can you... It's not as easy as meowing. No, it is- You can't really fit it in as, as, as easily, but, uh- [laughs] There, they had a bunch of speakers and not the things that make the noise.
- 5:39Well, they do make the noise, but talking about- Oh, yeah... cycling stuff in Milwaukee and- Yeah, yeah, some good stories. And it was- And, and, and, well, and brave people getting up to tell stories.
- 5:47Yeah, and it was well-attended for- Yeah... having been very rainy early in the day, and then the, the- Oh, I-... clouds parted and it was perfect. Yeah.
- 5:55I was, uh, you know, I, yeah, yeah, I'll, I'll say, I was like, "Oh, if it's shitty, I don't even know if I'm gonna go." Well, I was gonna come all the way from next door- Well, you, you had that...
- 6:04so I was going no matter what. [laughs] Well, yeah, you had that part. I mean, uh, well, and- I'm a half a mile [laughs] you know. A half a mile. A half a mile from here, so it's not really, mm-hmm.
- 6:16Well, this just goes to show you how the bike culture here in Milwaukee is actually pretty dang good. Apparently, there was- Pittsburghers. Yeah, so- Pittsburghers... well, I don't know how Pittsburgh came...
- 6:26Oh, Pittsburgh came into the conversation today because yesterday on eBay, which would be, have been Tuesday, I sold finally the Chumba
- 6:37titanium fat bike frame, which somebody else should have bought, or anybody should have bought. The guy that bought it got the greatest thing in the world. Anyway. It's in Pittsburgh.
- 6:44He's somewhere in cer- somewhere [laughs] in suburban Pittsburgh. And then- Do we know the area code? Yeah, we know the zip code. [laughs] I'm kidding. Uh, 15994, I believe. [laughs] Um, but he...
- 6:55We know the, the, we know that he's in s- the Pittsburgh, uh, greater metropolitan Pittsburgh area. [laughs] And then just, I guess it would be yesterday internet time, got another guy inquiring about an Omnium we have.
- 7:07Guess where he's from? Say it with me. Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh. Pittsburghers. So I know they have a really good cycling culture in Pittsburgh, and they have been to Milwaukee, the messenger guys, to do MMI in the past.
- 7:20And I think everybody that is in the scene there recognizes that Milwaukee is pretty solid at- Yeah... cycling thing. Exactly. And for the size.
- 7:30And they have, eh, comparable- I feel like we're gonna- I would say, yeah... feel like we're gonna talk about Milwaukee again all this show, but- No, we were talking about Pittsburgh the whole time.
- 7:38Well, [laughs] so- Yeah, don't worry about, don't worry about the cheat sheet, dude. The, well, I'm just wondering if we're gonna go in order of- No. Okay. Oh. Oh [laughs]. My, oh, dude, I totally [smacks lips].
- 7:51I'm just gonna have a piece of chocolate right now. I know. That would just make everything better. Would you like to have a little bite? No, thank you, kindly. It's very tasty. No. But I'm gonna say [bell dings]
- 8:00Top of the hill already. Top of the hill. I mean, we went to Western Nebraska. That's uphill most of the way. Exactly. Yeah. Okay. So, yeah. And you know what chocolate- We gotta, we gotta do some leftovers...
- 8:10you know what chocolate goes really well with, is this No. 5 Fluffy anchovy from Amorphic. [smacks lips] But chocolate just goes well with beer. Oh, that's the No. 5. Yes, it is. Floofy.
- 8:22Uh, not floof- See, I say it, but they have a thing called Floofy. They have many floofies. But Floofy- Oh, this is-... is its own thing... this is fluffy. Yes. So, mm, that is so good. I'm probably smacking in your ear.
- 8:36[smacks cheeks] [laughs] I don't, I don't like those, um- Oh, dude... those smacky mouth sounds when I'm listening [laughs] to a show.
- 8:42[laughs] Well, one of my f- my first roommates outside of the dorms was, like, the, the eat smacker. Oh, those are wonderful. No matter what. You know, just like, uh, yeah, and always would eat, like, those
- 8:57kinda [smacks cheeks] smackable foods. Mm. Like, you know, you're, like- Like a ramen. Here's a big- Those are slurpable foods... slurpable. No, no, yeah. It's the mac and cheese. Like, "Okay, I'm gonna be...
- 9:09Okay, drop a mac and cheese in front of me. [smacks cheeks] Just ki- And it was like, oh, my God. Like, echoed, echoed everywhere. All right. Yeah. On a tangent there. Well, I was gonna have a prop up here.
- 9:24I have some props. We'll get to some of these props later. But one, the one prop that I wanted to remind people of, and I don't know why I forgot about it, is should always have a baggie or two in your backpack. Yes.
- 9:36Yes, yes, yes. If it's not for the, if it's not for the potato phone, it's for the manifest which got- Mm... soaking wet during [laughs] during the Bay View rollout. Oh. [laughs] See?
- 9:48And, and, and that's, and that's exactly why you don't wanna get it all wet, because it gets all weird when it dries out. So, um- Thank God this is on video... it was [laughs] it, it w- it was.
- 10:04Uh, the Bay View, I think it was officially the Bay View Gallery Night rollout, I believe. Yes, Gallery Night and, uh, Bay View Gallery Night with b- uh, jazz, a lot of jazz. Right... was different. I, uh, swung by,
- 10:16uh, 1840. Uh, Mrs. Fun was playing at 5:00. Oh. So as I was rolling in, I was just like, "Mm." Oh, right on. And they were playing, like, cool. And I, I just, like, kinda like went through.
- 10:26I mean, I'm not supposed to ride where I did, but whatever. I was like- Yeah... "Hello, Kenny. Well- Hello, Kim." And boom... good stuff. It was a... I had a good time. Yeah. I, uh, initially wasn't gonna go.
- 10:36I said, "Well, I can't make it. I'm not gonna get down there in time for it to start," which I didn't, but I did ride the, uh, electric Omnium MiniMax cargo bike from Amorphic down to [laughs]
- 10:50down to Bay View, and it, it, 22 minutes from here to there is nice and quick. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:55So I got there about 15 minutes late, and everybody'd already left, but I kinda had a general idea where people were going because there were three mandatory stops, and it just kinda made sense. Yes.
- 11:06And then, I don't know who was leading you clowns around. Uh. Maybe it was Bob. But, uh, I'm like, "Why are they going that way when the next stop logically is over there?" Yeah. Yeah. They... See, there was even...
- 11:21Here's the deal. Well, I thought... Okay. There was even a map- No, no, where we-... on the back side... where...
- 11:25I know, where we saw you and then like this, and then we went that-a-way, and then it was supposed to be up here. And I was like, "Oh, maybe we go this way so we don't have to go up more of a hill. Clever. Okay."
- 11:37Not that clever. And then we, but then went that way and then to the left instead of to the right. Well, to be fair, I didn't really care about hills with the [laughs] Yes.
- 11:46I- [laughs] I, I, I, I was really just, I was leading, le- letting me be led and I'm like, "Whatever. I don't wanna- Yeah... overthink this too much." Right. I'm like, "Oh, hey, you're gonna take a clever way.
- 11:58That's cool." And in the- You got a clever way... and in the end we- And it wasn't... we, we missed one stop of the, all of them. Yeah. And that was fine. Which didn't matter because- It was a-...
- 12:07in the end there were only four raffle tickets anyway... it was a pet, a pet store. Yeah. And then- [laughs]... plus Bob's, or Bob... bills hard on that one. [laughs] Yeah.
- 12:16Like, well, yeah, uh, 'cause it was supposed to be, okay, you get two for each mandatory Which would be six 'cause there were three mandatory And then one for each extra Which could have been, like, a total of 11 or something maybe- Right...
- 12:30total. But then it was like, why don't we just- Or maybe 13 even... why don't we just give everyone four? Yeah And just be done with this.
- 12:36Do you remember what- I mean, like, whatever Do you remember what I won in the raffle? Ah, the, uh, uh, uh, the- I don't have it here... the, the burger The hamb- The hamburger... the hamburger bell. That was so great.
- 12:45Oh. Yeah, that was- I can't believe I didn't buy a- or I didn't win anything... so that was Friday. [laughs] That w- that was Friday, and that was already a good day. Mm-hmm. Again, it's like it could have been...
- 12:56Well, it was raining, but it was warm. Yeah So it wasn't really a big deal. And when it did rain again... [laughs] Yeah. You were kind of- It was, it, yeah, it was like-...
- 13:05it kind of dried out enough from the last one, and it just picked up again a little bit. Yeah, as long- Yeah... yeah, get undercover for seven minutes. Yeah. Boom, the po- faucet turns on,
- 13:15and then, okay, sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle. That's perfect. And we're done. That's perfect. Okay. I don't think it rained the next day, at least not when we were at the Falcon Bowl for the WMSC- No...
- 13:28vi- what is it called? The vinyl something. It was a vinyl deal. Um, Pin Smash Vinyl Bash.
- 13:33But yeah, Pin Smash was the bowling in the basement and- Got a nice tote bag so I can show off when I go to the- Oh, my tote bag's over there... when I go to the, the grocery store. I'm like, "I'm a cool guy." Yeah.
- 13:43I have that one, and I have my Star Wars ones. So it was- I'm-... A, a thing to clean out the archives and a bunch of stuff that MSC had lying around that is taking up space, including albums like The Descendants. Right.
- 13:58Uh- This is, uh, apparently a liverage. [laughs] Liverage. But this is, was sitting in there, and the DJs play vinyl there 98% of the time, I think, still. And this one just has notes from other DJs on the back.
- 14:11It's like, this is a funcore band. [laughs] I didn't even know funcore was a thing. Yeah. This is a 1987 release, and there are, "I don't want to grow up,"
- 14:22and, "Suburban home," have arrows, and the other ones are crossed out. So it's like it has the notes from the DJs that did the thing. Or pr- uh- That w-... program directors that said- Or a program-...
- 14:32"Don't, don't f- That could be, too... play that." But there's no program directors. You're the program director at WMSC in your own time slot. Well, somebody was program directing the back of that damn sleeve, man.
- 14:41That might have been- That's all I'm saying... that might have been another DJ going, "If you play this, don't do that." Ah. This is my, this is the coup de grace for me, though. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:48Because The Tubes were one of my favorite bands growing up. Uh, th- I think they, I think this album came out when I, the year I graduated from high school or maybe the year before.
- 14:57And there's little, there's little, like, notes on it from, again, 7/3/81, blah, blah, blah. I just like... I, you know, I'm not even- Time capsule.
- 15:07Just like- Uh, well, I looked at the, the vinyl to see if it was still playable, and it, it seemed- It's gotta be... it seemed to be. Yeah. But I wasn't, like, that was sorta not...
- 15:15At, for five bucks, that was not the primary reason- No... to get this album cover. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 'Cause I already have this album anyway. [laughs] Now I just have it in a, you know- Frameable mode... i- yeah.
- 15:27I mean, it just, it, I think that... And I didn't really realize how many of... S- So people donate records to MSC all the time. Not all of them were in or got played on air. Right, right, right.
- 15:41But these two obviously did, which is great. Yeah, is that... Yeah. What were yours? I saw your picture. I didn't delve deeply into what you- Uh-... what you found...
- 15:50David Live, uh, from '74, David Bowie in, I think, Pittsburgh. It was in Pittsburgh that day. I think it was in Pittsburgh. Golly. I, or if it wasn't Pittsburgh, I think it was Pennsylvania.
- 16:03Are we gonna say Pittsburgh more times or amorphous more times during this show? [laughs] I'm just wondering. No, it's, it's funny.
- 16:08But no, 'cause I del- I dove a little deeper into it when I saw it, and I was like, "What? It's a two, two LP." I'm like, "Yeah, this is badass for five bucks."
- 16:18Yeah, I know you sent the- And I was like, "Oh, okay, cool"... you sent the picture. I was like, "Well, uh, what, what, what, what's he sending me pictures of again? I don't even know."
- 16:23And then, and then the other was the Herb Alpert with the whipped cream and other delights, which just the jack- album jacket just is the best. It just, I mean- Oh, yeah...
- 16:36it's art in itself, and it's been replicated by so other good- It's got whip- whipped cream and other delights. Yeah. Exactly. That is pretty good. And, uh, he's, uh, playing in Milwaukee, 91-ish years old.
- 16:51That is a- Herb Alpert... good long run... at the Bradley something on Wisconsin, uh, the Warner Theatre or whatever the fuck. Mm-hmm. [laughs] So the one- One of those places...
- 17:03the one that's been prominently displayed in the front of this show all day long, I just- Star Wars...
- 17:09I, I, well, I know that Michael likes to listen to movie soundtracks, and I'm like, "I don't know if you have this or not, but it's only five bucks for 30 CDs, and it's a box set, and it's, it's beautiful."
- 17:18So I was like, "Well, if you're not gonna y- if you don't have it," which I th- I think I do... think you do... I, uh, you showed, well, you, you shot the picture. Yeah. But I didn't know you'd made the purchase.
- 17:29But it's, you know, it's, it's the, the, a new arrangement and performance of John Williams' blah, blah, blah, the New World Orchestra.
- 17:35I do not know who they are, but for $5, you get three CDs, and it's got the Star Wars. It's like the greatest... Yes. It's- It's a, a re-imaginationing of the John Williams- Yeah... the maestro. Well.
- 17:49Well, let's see how it is. I mean, it, we, I got a CD player. I got a r- I got a record player. You know, we can do all this stuff. It looks like the com- Don't put the CD- It looks like the com-...
- 17:58in the record player... it looks like the Combusters are still on the record player, which was a great show. Um- They're coming up around again. Well, they always are popping. Yeah. True.
- 18:09This is the summer of, oh, yeah, uh, it's all gas now. Yeah. No kidding. I mean, there's, like... I don't know. Let me, I- I, I even said to the... I was like, "Okay, I'm recovering from the bike party as of our-...
- 18:22talking right now [laughs] and- Yeah... and I was just like, "Oh, yeah. Robits is playing- Yeah... I think tonight." Right.
- 18:31And it's, and I'm just like, I'm- And that's a Tuesday night, folks- Or no, and like- Well, Wednesday night, that's when we do this now... yeah. We do this on Wednesdays now. Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:37Well, yeah, and yeah, the music series is starting to ramp itself up. Oh, you betcha. And it, and it's like, "Oh, God," yes, and I'm gonna ride my bike to most of them, I will say. Robits included tonight. Mm-hmm.
- 18:50Uh, let me- Yeah... let me throw a c- we've been talking cycling somewhat, but let me talk a, couple of specific- In jeez... cycling things really right on. First of all, OneUp Components- OneUp...
- 19:01sent, sent us to the fatbike.com this new set of pedals. See? Kinda looks like some platform pedals. But these are called The Wave. If you look at how they're made, they have a little bit of a wave to them.
- 19:16Those are like- And-... those, uh, super longs like- And they're super... They're nice and thin.
- 19:21Uh, obviously they're still in the box, we just got 'em, but uh, these will be going through the ringer for the fatbike.com test situation, and I'm looking forward to 'em.
- 19:30I, I've got a pedal I like a lot, but these have some of the same, uh, features, and I think honestly- Desirables...
- 19:41to, the, I think they're a little more geared towards people who are doing super huckjam stuff out in Squamish, where these guys are from in British Columbia, because when you're doing super,
- 19:55super, uh, super rad downhill and jumps and stuff, a little heel down attitude is good. That's why they kinda have the drop on the back of the pedal so that your foot kinda has the heel naturally down.
- 20:06But it's not a ton, and I'm curious how they work for just normal, every day, uh, beach riding and, and stuff. So those- Relax and groovy, then yeah... those'll be going on the Bear Claw, baby- Uh-huh...
- 20:16for a little testing. Test. Uh, the other thing I wanna mention is Omnium. Omnium, we've- Ohm... so we, we ha- we do. We,
- 20:30we have a, a, a new available bike and we, we were using it for a demo and now, uh, Brandon from Omnium said, "Why don't you just go ahead and put a price on that thing?"
- 20:39So we have a medium Omnium Cargo, which is the long, the longest of the bunch.
- 20:45Normally about 30, almost $3,500, $2,800 out the door, ready to ride, and it hasn't been super abused except it had a couple of hay bales on it for the MMI and stuff. So it's got history.
- 20:56Any s- any scrapes on it or anything like that, that's history. And if you got a cargo bike, then you scratch it up anyway, so don't worry too much about it.
- 21:04But, uh, let me know, uh, maybe greg@everydaycycles.com if that's something you might be interested in. We'll figure out how to get it to you and it's, uh, it's ready to roll. It's assembled, tested, used a little bit.
- 21:16W- everything's been dialed in. There you go. Yes. That's the, that's not the, that's not all we're gonna spiel about today, but- No... let us go to other [laughs] things. No. No, no.
- 21:27Well, I, I w- I was l- I was looking for the off ramp and I didn't know where it was. Yeah. I don't know. Well, the off ramp is Pittsburgh, obviously. Well, yes.
- 21:34Goddammit, I [laughs] oh, on that downtime I should've looked. So next week, if anyone has anything to add about next... Carlos, is he gone already? Well, he already left, yeah.
- 21:50I did not get to run into dude- Well, I ran-... again, you know... I ran into him at Locust Street early in the day because he had stuff going on with his- He seemed like he had a, uh, itinerary.
- 22:01Yeah, his, 'cause his brother came here too and I don't- Yeah... I don't know if his brother lives in Vegas and- Right... and Carlos lives in Ch- Understood...
- 22:07in Charlotte, which he's a, he's a Milwaukee, m- you know, staple from the old days, but he's been in Charlotte for several years. Yeah. And we, he talked about how shitty it is to ride bikes in Charlotte compared- Oh...
- 22:18compared to here, urban wise. Sure. They have plenty of off-road s- stuff and mountain biking is good there, but he's like, "You can't really ride around-" Like, I, I, I wanna go- "... town"...
- 22:28from my house, eh, too far. Well, Charlotte's humongous. I don't know if you've ever been there, but it's massive. Yeah. So you could go from... It could take you 40 minutes or an hour in a car to get across town.
- 22:41I have- But I don't have a husband... yeah, I have family members that live there, but I don't really... But yeah, yeah, Carlos was one of the early supporters of Schlick Cycles back in the day. I don't...
- 22:49He has at least three of 'em that I r- well, he, I, yeah, whatever. He has more than one and maybe less than Tony. Sure. That, that's accurate. [laughs] The only person that has more Schlicks than Tony still is me.
- 23:02And Carlos had, always had the, uh, um, essentially the parking lot for Locust Street. Oh, yeah, right. Yeah. That was always good.
- 23:10Yeah, when you had the house right there- It was, it was like, it was like, "Ah, dude, oh, yeah. Carlos around? Oh, okay, yes. Perfect. Perfect, perfect, perfect." It's got a little different this year. Yeah.
- 23:22Yeah, that's fine. I thought, I thought it actually- I mean, there was no gun play... I don't know. I thought it was better. I th- I kind of, it- Yeah... it, I, I'm getting- I'm not gonna say better, it's just different.
- 23:30It's just evolving... I don't know if it's the curmudgeon in me that just doesn't appreciate... Like, when I first got there at, like, 11:30- Wow... I met Dave and, uh, Adrian right away 'cause they were waiting.
- 23:42Carlos was showing up- Fucking Adrian... and blah, blah, blah. Yeah.
- 23:44So we're just sitting there, and there was like, um, you know, not a lot of people there yet, but about, you know, 1:30 it really started packing in pretty good and- Yeah...
- 23:53every, I, I don't know what happened with street festival and/or festival in general etiquette, but when you have a food truck, why does the line go straight out into the thoroughfare?
- 24:06Why doesn't it wrap around a little bit so that you're not blocking every other person that's walking by? You gotta be part of, you have to be part of the human centipede, Ferris. Oh, God. And y- guess what?
- 24:16I don't wanna be in the human centipede- No... as yesterday, like, [laughs] like everyone's just standing in line For no reason It's almost a round wheel now. Yeah. And some good chocolate.
- 24:30Chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp Um, yeah I wonder, there are ways to find out where they got the chocolate or how it was made I don't know. I'm s- I'm wondering if they had it. They mu- did they make it themselves?
- 24:40That would not be above them to do that- [laughs]... or know somebody that can do it because- That's exactly what I'm saying... yeah. I feel like it's milk chocolate.
- 24:48I heard milk chocolate isn't as good for you as dark chocolate. Dark chocolate? Dark chocolate is supposed to be, like, the bomb if you, if you- Yes... have- You have to have a little bit of it.
- 24:58It's like a good red wine at the end of the night Yeah. I love dark chocolate actually Instead of like, instead of, uh- It's got some dark chocolate characteristics...
- 25:07instead of like, not two bottles of red wine at the end of the night. [laughs] Until morning Is that what you got sucked into after the bike party? Yes. Yes.
- 25:17[laughs] Well, good thing that it's summer and you don't have that much to do at work Exactly. I just ended up being like, "All right."
- 25:27I have vacation time to burn if anyone says I'm not doing any shit at work No, I was, I was- I'll be like, like, "Whatever"... I'm not actually working. I'm here on my vacation day. Yeah, just to open the door. Oh,
- 25:40f- ah. Uh, I might have- Top of the hill again... right on, we didn't really talk about it before, but I got a- Well, it's, yeah... I got a Pabst.
- 25:46I had a Moon Man You had a Moon Man, and then we had beer from Amorphic before. Yeah. I need another Moon Man. You can go get a Moon Man if you want. I'll just ta- I'll talk real quickly about, uh- No, you won't...
- 25:57our, our- Stretch it out... help- Stretch it out... help our site. Are you going to the bathroom too? You gonna have a smoke? No... what are you doing? What are you doing over there? You just getting a beer?
- 26:04Uh, we do have this, uh, Amazon thing where we're recommending some products. If you buy anything from there, we may get a small commission, which may help keep us on the air and/or may help keep the fatbike.com going.
- 26:19That's in the show notes. Everybody should check the show notes. I, we put pictures in there wh- of us having fun when you weren't there. That's probably what you really wanna look at, is- Shame-...
- 26:28I got a lot of pictures- Shaming... yeah. Yes. You, you should've been there. I don't care if you had to fly here from Hawaii, you should've been there. I'd, I'd fly to Hawaii just to do the... no. Yeah Well, yes.
- 26:40I'm sure- Yes. No, no, yes... sure they have a great bike culture in Hawaii. [laughs] That would be my guess Ah. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh. I forgot about this. Huh?
- 26:48This Sou- this South Shore koozie is also courtesy of- South Shore... Bay View Gallery Night. South Shore Cyclery down there- Yes... on, uh- I have one-...
- 26:56they're on Packard Avenue in, on the south side of Milwaukee in, is that Saint? That's not Saint Francis. Cudahy Cudahy, there you go. You know what it was called before? All the Polish folks moved there. Cudda. Ding.
- 27:14Sh. Ah, well, okay. It's not quite a dad joke, but it's close. I actually... Yeah, okay. I, [laughs] I just l- uh, th- there was a bill ride, and there is a bowling alley
- 27:31on Packard, and I can't remember what the name of it is. Hmm. But it's right in the shadow of one of the bacon plants. Oh, Oscar Mayer. Uh, no. Maybe No, it's, uh, one of them. There's, like, two. Oh Which is great.
- 27:46I wish I were an Oscar Mayer weiner. I mean, I'm just saying- That's what I really wanna be... Cu- Cudahy smells of bacon Yes, and with- And, I mean, it-... good, good reason... it doesn't suck.
- 27:55[laughs] So I'm outside having a smoke, and then there was, like, this downdraft, and just got, like, caught in, like, a f- [laughs]... fog of- Y-... of bacon smoke or bacon fog. And I'm like, "Oh."
- 28:11You weren't just smelling your pocket? No. No, no, no. [laughs] It was great. No, there were witnesses on this one where it was like, "Oh." I'm like, "I could live here." [laughs] I could... Say what you will. Yes. Yes.
- 28:23[laughs] Wow I love this place. Pabst Blue Ribbon after an Amorphic beer and chocolate. I'm not sure if I'm keen on that. This, this goes much better with a fluffy than it does with a Pabst. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 28:37I, I can imagine. That's- I don't know how... I'm not sure how old this Pabst is either. It's been in there for a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Does it age well? It, it should be fine.
- 28:45[laughs] I mean, we did clear the fridge out for the tour encounters, so. Those aren't the ones I brought from my wedding, are they? So no. [laughs] They may very well be. Well, the, okay. All right.
- 28:59[laughs] I do not know. I mean- Anywho... it's within a year. It's safe. It should be Yeah, it's kinda, especially- Should be, it should be shelf stable, I'm guessing...
- 29:06especially on your, on your big brewery beer, not your, you know, Amorphic locally brewed beer. Right. Is this made of steel or aluminum or something that terrible?
- 29:17It's better- Is this a terrible- It's better than it being in a terrible-... it's a terrible ta-... glass bottle and sitting in the sun, I'll tell you that much... America? All right, everybody.
- 29:24Oh, Ding says for, what, not, "No to both for me. Also," blah, blah, blah. Don't vote for me. Oh, no- Don't vote for me... no, that was... We, next, we gotta go do a...
- 29:35You know what we need to do, is a podcast in the Terrapin Station. Yes. Yeah. Yes, yes. Hey, if anybody's looking for absolutely 100- Deadhead, come on...
- 29:46percent the best Airbnb in Milwaukee, the place can sleep, like, 16 people. I have no idea about... Oh, really? Have you ever been in it? No. Oh. I, no, I'm just- Oh... I, I'm just selling, I, I, yes.
- 30:00I'm adve- I'm gonna go ahead and- From the, just for the outside. I have been in it c- because we set the network up and stuff for all of the, uh, IT stuff inside the place.
- 30:12But the guy that does it, Steve Matheson, good buddy, uh, he has obviously a Dead fan, and made the garage into the album cover pretty much of Terrapin Station.
- 30:25Yes When you're driving by on the street, if you frame it, you're like, "You gotta be kidding me." Yeah. And then he- The only thing that is missing are the two- Well, they might be- Tortuous...
- 30:34they might be hired to just dance around out there [laughs] on certain days. Exactly. Yeah, no. Yeah, yeah. The, uh, nothing's static. But I mean, it is... Yes. It's not just- It's awesome... but, but it's not just...
- 30:45And that's, so that's technically the garage is the game room. It's a two-car garage that's basically the game room.
- 30:50There's a huge courtyard with a big ass hot tub, and then there's the property with three floors and a bunch of bedrooms and- Is that on- It's on Chambers and Bremen. Yeah. So okay, so Terrapin Station is here. Yeah.
- 31:06Property is on this side? Terrapin Station is there, and then you go east and it's the same property. Okay, that's what I'm asking. Yeah.
- 31:12We were in there once for a pie- I just saw him over at- We were in there once for a pie ride... I saw him over at Amorphic. Were you not in there for the pie ride? We were in the...
- 31:19'Cause it- No, I was not on the pie ride... it was, it was, it was- I've not attended a pie ride...
- 31:23before, before Steve bought it, it was a s- I wouldn't say it was run down, but it certainly wasn't up kept, like massively. And there was a dude that lived, and it was a- Ooh... so it was a former bar.
- 31:34Look at you with the word play. That was good. Right? Yeah. It was a wor- it was a, it was a bar. And the dude lived, and the bar was still in there, and he lived kind of in the back, and his bedroom was...
- 31:43And it was cool. This is so much more cool that that guy could not even have imagined how cool that place could've been if he would've put a little effort into it. Right.
- 31:50But- And, and probably a half a million bucks too, but- Sure. Well, yeah... you know. But, uh, it is...
- 31:55I'll put the link in the show notes, 'cause if you come here with a big group of people and you wanna stay, this is like, A, close to a lot of the stuff, like especially Summerfest and all the things going on, and B- A cool neighborhood...
- 32:06I don't care if you ne- I don't care if you never left the place. Yeah. It would be awesome. No. Right. You got, you got your creperie right across the street. You get- Oh, oh, yes...
- 32:15you're, you're within a mile of at least three b- brew pubs. You know, I mean, there's... You got popcorn over here. You got a, a great new taco joint over there. Bob on the, uh, other side of the alley. Tons of stuff.
- 32:27And you got Bob right down the alley. [laughs] Handsome Bob, folks. Uh, if you don't meet him, you'll- You will... you'll fig- you'll figure out who he is. Oh, y- yes. All right. Oh, yes, yes, yes.
- 32:37Well, I guess it's time to go over to Amorphic for a beer. [laughs] Amorphic. If, if Ron doesn't listen to this show, I don't know, it's like... I still don't have a T-shirt from Amorphic, by the way.
- 32:49Well, I do because my- Do they have T-shirts? Because my wife bought me one for my birthday a couple years ago. Oh. Along with a couple of four-packs of, uh, Amorphic beer. But got a new T-shirt now. Kyle has one.
- 33:00Ah, my new T-shirt. Just saying. Those, those straight jackets. Yeah, there you go. Mm-hmm. Uh, it was a, it's a large, aspirational large. [laughs] I'm not, I'm not a large anymore. This fe- this felt- Oh...
- 33:12figure that is JK. Okay. Yeah. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell everybody, that's JK. I'm Sven. And you know what? It's, it's time to leave, so I guess if you didn't- It's re- your first time...
- 33:21if you didn't already know who we are, [laughs] then, uh- Zing zong bing gong. Cheers. All right. Go visit South Shore Cyclery 'cause these guys are good. Um- They have a, uh, a good little, uh, museum.
- 33:33Oh, heck yeah, they got a Schwinn museum down there. Oh, heck yeah. [laughs] That'll, that'll, that m- what do we c- oh, that's North Dakota. Nebraska and North Dakota are basically the same place. South of the nine.
- 33:43Just one's, one's north of the other kinda thing. Mm-hmm. All right, everybody. Like Miss Wan's and- Yeah. We'll see you next week. Bye.
- 33:53[rock music]
