- 0:00Speaker 1: An award winning family owned business with exceptional diamonds, engagement rings,
- 0:05Speaker 1: jewelry and time pieces. Continental Diamond is the jeweler Minnesota,
- 0:10Speaker 1: Adores in Saint Louis Park or online at Continentaldiamond dot com.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Hey everybody, another awesome week of the Tailgate. Sarah Tiana,
- 0:21Speaker 1: incredible comedian, worked on Garbage Time with Katie Nolan, wrote
- 0:26Speaker 1: for the SPI's Her special forty four is out on YouTube.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Her stand up special Lifelong Atlanta Fan. We talk about
- 0:34Speaker 1: a lot of really great stuff. I think you're gonna
- 0:36Speaker 1: love it. If you do love it, do the things
- 0:38Speaker 1: you're supposed to do. Like it, subscribe it, share it,
- 0:42Speaker 1: help us out.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yondom Hey, we gotta go here, we gotta go.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Let's go. So Hey, guys, it is week nine. We're
- 0:59Speaker 1: heading into it Atlanta. We got a new quarterback. Things
- 1:02Speaker 1: are crazy and joining us to talk about all things
- 1:08Speaker 1: Vikings and Atlanta related. Ladies and gentlemen, Sarah.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Tiana, Hello, thank you so much for having me.
- 1:15Speaker 1: You're looking sharp in your Falcons hat. This this is
- 1:19Speaker 1: an exciting one for me because you are I have
- 1:23Speaker 1: a lot of comics on and the premise of this
- 1:25Speaker 1: show is a die hard from another team who's a
- 1:29Speaker 1: comic or a comedic entertainer. But you're a fantastic comic,
- 1:33Speaker 1: so don't take this second statement as an indictment on
- 1:37Speaker 1: your comedy. But you are such a great sports fan.
- 1:42Speaker 1: It's rarely do I get these too high of levels
- 1:46Speaker 1: where I'm almost like and Sarah take over the show.
- 1:49Speaker 1: You're like, you're a die hard Atlanta sports fan.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Die hard Atlanta sports fan, you know, to the detriment
- 1:57Speaker 2: of my own ego, to the detriment of you know,
- 2:02Speaker 2: my pocketbook with the amount of gray hairs I have
- 2:04Speaker 2: to constantly cover up. You know, I definitely keep Kleenex
- 2:08Speaker 2: in business by the amount of tears I shed. So
- 2:10Speaker 2: you know, I'm like Taylor Swift. I just like I
- 2:13Speaker 2: create an economy around that.
- 2:15Speaker 1: It's funny. I always am looking for other fan bases
- 2:19Speaker 1: to feel a kin with right kinship kin. I'm a
- 2:22Speaker 1: l Billy. The point is, you know, like the Cleveland Browns,
- 2:26Speaker 1: they haven't won in forever. So there's a few fan
- 2:28Speaker 1: bases that, as a Viking fan, I feel connected to,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and I feel like Atlanta should be one of those.
- 2:35Speaker 1: The only thing that's ever won is your baseball team. Right,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you're a long suffering, long time since, but I can't
- 2:43Speaker 1: get over ninety eight. You should be someone that I'm like,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you're one of me. But the ninety eight I was
- 2:49Speaker 1: fifteen years old in ninety eight, and that moment crushed
- 2:52Speaker 1: my sports soul. So there's just like a deep, ugly
- 2:56Speaker 1: hate inside me, even though you don't deserve it at all.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Maybe this is why I always make an argument that
- 3:02Speaker 2: kickers should be in the Hall of Fame. Yes, it
- 3:06Speaker 2: definitely feels like to me, there are just so many
- 3:09Speaker 2: great kickers, and if you have a good kicker on
- 3:12Speaker 2: your fantasy team, like you can definitely score twelve to
- 3:14Speaker 2: fifteen points a week, especially if they kick for teams
- 3:18Speaker 2: like the Jets, you know, the Cardinals, teams that are
- 3:20Speaker 2: reliant on the field goal to score period, the Raiders
- 3:25Speaker 2: or another one right now. So it's like, yeah, I
- 3:27Speaker 2: feel like we definitely have a history going back to
- 3:31Speaker 2: ninety eight. I mean, I was a falconspan back then.
- 3:35Speaker 2: You know, we had you know, the dirty Birds. It
- 3:38Speaker 2: was like that whole era of the nineties, which was
- 3:41Speaker 2: really exciting. But I would be a miss to say
- 3:44Speaker 2: that that Super Bowl last heard as bad as the
- 3:47Speaker 2: one in twenty seventeen or twenty I don't even remember
- 3:51Speaker 2: the year now because it's just so hazy.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Well that's just say that was going to be the
- 3:56Speaker 1: teas was ninety eight, because that is our two fan maase,
- 4:00Speaker 1: I just have to have experienced that on such even
- 4:02Speaker 1: though you lost in the Super Bowl, such a different
- 4:06Speaker 1: experience for our two fan bases. But then, no matter what,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'd want to carry with me, I can't imagine, and
- 4:13Speaker 1: you were there, you were at the twenty seventeen Super Bowl,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and I'm not a big revel and other sports fans pain,
- 4:21Speaker 1: I just see myself in it, and I hate it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: That had to have been a wild experience.
- 4:26Speaker 2: It was wild, you know, the highest of the highs
- 4:29Speaker 2: and then the lowest of the lows. You definitely felt
- 4:32Speaker 2: like you were bipolar. You're like, wait, why am I
- 4:34Speaker 2: what is happening? What is this swing in my emotions?
- 4:38Speaker 2: When when the Falcons lost the coin to us to
- 4:43Speaker 2: go into overtime, I went to the bathroom and cried
- 4:45Speaker 2: because I knew it was over. Our defense had been
- 4:48Speaker 2: on the field for way too long and I I
- 4:52Speaker 2: just I knew it was I came back to my
- 4:54Speaker 2: seat and the usher wouldn't let me back in. I
- 4:59Speaker 2: was just I just came back to my row and
- 5:00Speaker 2: I just sat on the end, like I didn't even
- 5:03Speaker 2: find my way into the middle, and she goes, you
- 5:04Speaker 2: can't sit there, and I go, the game's over, dude,
- 5:07Speaker 2: Like yes, what do you mean I can't sit here?
- 5:09Speaker 2: Who cares? And then she just kept arguing me, and
- 5:13Speaker 2: I'm like, who cares? The game is over. She's like,
- 5:16Speaker 2: you need to calm down. It is just the game.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And I go, did you just call the Super Bowl
- 5:20Speaker 2: a game? Like? I knows you live in Houston and
- 5:23Speaker 2: this is never gonna happen to you. But this is
- 5:26Speaker 2: the worst day of my life. And it was awful.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And you know, my husband is a Patriots fan, so
- 5:35Speaker 2: that just kind of like made it worse, you know
- 5:37Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 5:38Speaker 1: And like, were you guys there together? Were you there together?
- 5:42Speaker 2: We had been there together the whole week because I
- 5:44Speaker 2: was doing garbage time with Katie all week. And then
- 5:48Speaker 2: you know, he went home. He's on the Rich eisand shows,
- 5:51Speaker 2: so he went home instead of going to the game.
- 5:54Speaker 2: And then yeah, he picked me up at the airport
- 5:56Speaker 2: with a big good ku of flowers and a gift
- 6:00Speaker 2: to a spa for an entire day and never mentioned
- 6:03Speaker 2: it and never brought it up.
- 6:07Speaker 1: By the way, that's he deserves huge husband points for that. Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 1: but here's the big question if that would have been
- 6:14Speaker 1: there for like, that's easier to do when you've won
- 6:18Speaker 1: all those other trophies very much, So how much how
- 6:22Speaker 1: much credit does he get?
- 6:23Speaker 2: But also if it had been their first Super Bowl,
- 6:26Speaker 2: he probably would have been there, you know, yes, in
- 6:28Speaker 2: the first place, because it was their eightieth I think
- 6:31Speaker 2: he was just like, you know, some other people can
- 6:34Speaker 2: have a good one, you know, but yeah, that was
- 6:38Speaker 2: a really tortured moment as a Falcons fan, and I
- 6:42Speaker 2: feel like now some other things have trumped that, so
- 6:45Speaker 2: you know, the pain has worn off and that's a
- 6:48Speaker 2: little bit easier. So I just like seeing other teams
- 6:51Speaker 2: get in there and new teams win, and you know,
- 6:54Speaker 2: now now seeing you know, what Kyle Shanahan has done
- 6:57Speaker 2: to the forty nine ers kind of helps because he
- 7:01Speaker 2: ruined my team. So I'd like to see him ruin
- 7:04Speaker 2: another great offense and continue to do that with like, oh, hey,
- 7:07Speaker 2: this has been working all game. Let's just stop doing that.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Why don't we stop doing that in the third and
- 7:12Speaker 2: fourth quarter, since this has all been working, and let's
- 7:15Speaker 2: throw it instead of running out the clock.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I have that same thing inside me that you have
- 7:20Speaker 1: inside you that I think it's called I'm gonna call
- 7:24Speaker 1: it was broken up with in high school by somebody
- 7:27Speaker 1: you loved, and we'll carry that for the rest of
- 7:30Speaker 1: your life. I'll be out a fiftieth anniversary like a
- 7:34Speaker 1: fiftieth reunion, and I'll be like, oh, what do you
- 7:37Speaker 1: got a bum knee there? Hat Like I can't. That
- 7:41Speaker 1: energy is inside me for awful, awful sports moments. It's
- 7:44Speaker 1: my problem with playing fantasy football. I'm terrible at it
- 7:47Speaker 1: because I despise too many teams and I'm like, am
- 7:50Speaker 1: I gonna pick a Seattle Seahawk? Sean Alexander scored a
- 7:54Speaker 1: bunch of touchdowns on US and on Sunday Night Football
- 7:57Speaker 1: eleven years ago. I just can't do it too much.
- 8:00Speaker 2: No, I won't pick anybody on the Saints. I hope
- 8:02Speaker 2: they dine an asteroid fire that gets frozen so that
- 8:07Speaker 2: they have to keep suffering for a long time. You know, yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 2: like I could care less. I never pick anybody from
- 8:14Speaker 2: the Phillies in Bays fantasy baseball. So it's like, yeah,
- 8:18Speaker 2: rival rates are important. That's what makes sports, you know, great.
- 8:22Speaker 2: You have to have villains you have and you have
- 8:23Speaker 2: to create your own villains, you know. And you see
- 8:26Speaker 2: athletes doing that. I mean the Patriots did that against
- 8:28Speaker 2: the Rams and the Super Bowl. They gave that speech
- 8:31Speaker 2: at the end, like no one expected us to be here.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I believed in us. It's like, what do you mean
- 8:35Speaker 2: this lady here? Seventh or eighth super Bowl in fifteen years?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Like everyone expected you to be there.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Everyone thought until you stop going, everyone thought, But you're right.
- 8:46Speaker 1: It is a very athlete thing to do. It's it's
- 8:48Speaker 1: a very Michael Jordan holding his tablet and I yeah,
- 8:53Speaker 1: I can really run with that sort of energy. It
- 8:57Speaker 1: It's been a weird week for us, I mean, obviously
- 9:01Speaker 1: terrible for Kirk. Yeah, Kirk is this interestingly divisive figure
- 9:07Speaker 1: for how non divisive he is. Right Like, wherever he's been,
- 9:11Speaker 1: the is he amazing or is he not? This argument
- 9:15Speaker 1: swirls and follows him. But he doesn't carry that in
- 9:19Speaker 1: any way. He's just you know, well, both our quarterbacks
- 9:21Speaker 1: were featured on the show Quarterback. But you gotta see
- 9:25Speaker 1: a glimpse of a guy who truly, truly cares a
- 9:28Speaker 1: lot about how things turn out. And so it's really
- 9:33Speaker 1: really a sad couple days. And then bam, yesterday, Josh
- 9:37Speaker 1: Dobbs is here. And things are never louder in the
- 9:42Speaker 1: social media world than when quarterback news is involved. And
- 9:47Speaker 1: I'm on this roller coaster. Feel terrible for Kirk, Feel like,
- 9:50Speaker 1: even though this is four and four, this was probably
- 9:52Speaker 1: the best team he'd ever been on and they were
- 9:53Speaker 1: starting to round into shape.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 1: And then but I, despite some people's lack of enthusiasm,
- 10:00Speaker 1: I love Josh Dams. Yeah, like I am obsessed with
- 10:04Speaker 1: I know that's crazy to say for a guy who's
- 10:05Speaker 1: been a backup in third string guy, but I love him.
- 10:08Speaker 2: First of all, Josh Obbs is a genius. He's an astrophysicist,
- 10:13Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like, he does not have
- 10:15Speaker 2: to play football, but he has been blessed with a gift.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And what he's bringing to the Vikings right now is
- 10:24Speaker 2: a new respect for a rushing quarterback. Like, you know,
- 10:28Speaker 2: you always respect Kirk's arm, so everyone's covered downfield. Now
- 10:33Speaker 2: you have to respect Josh's legs because not only can
- 10:36Speaker 2: he air it, out and hit all these you know,
- 10:39Speaker 2: all your weapons downfield. He can take it upon himself
- 10:42Speaker 2: to just run it up the gut my home style.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I mean he he has been doing that with Arizona
- 10:48Speaker 2: this year. Arizona could be fourgn too, they could be
- 10:50Speaker 2: five and one. They have been in every single game,
- 10:53Speaker 2: every game, and none of us gave Gannon the time
- 10:56Speaker 2: of day when he came in, and everyone's like, oh,
- 10:59Speaker 2: he's like weird gaze with all these weird press conferences
- 11:02Speaker 2: and stuff. And then all of a sudden, you're like,
- 11:04Speaker 2: oh my god, the Cardinals are not just like mailing
- 11:07Speaker 2: it in, you know. And and I think maybe ownership
- 11:11Speaker 2: thought they would be terrible, and then Dobbs took them
- 11:14Speaker 2: to another level and created this team. And obviously Gannon
- 11:18Speaker 2: knows how to work a defense. So they've been in
- 11:21Speaker 2: every game, and you know, the fact that they are
- 11:24Speaker 2: selling proves to me that ownership did not want them
- 11:26Speaker 2: to be in it. And you know, but that's you know,
- 11:30Speaker 2: neither here nor there. What My point is that Minnesota
- 11:33Speaker 2: got to steal with Dobbs. It is best case scenario
- 11:36Speaker 2: for you guys. I don't know who else you would
- 11:39Speaker 2: want or need besides him like he you know that
- 11:43Speaker 2: he's a likable, lovable guy. I mean, they weren't even
- 11:46Speaker 2: selling his jersey in Arizona in the store. You couldn't
- 11:50Speaker 2: even make it, Like, you couldn't even you couldn't even
- 11:53Speaker 2: request you could make one for any player on the team.
- 11:55Speaker 2: His name was not listed.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Like that's wild.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Yeah, the disrespect I know.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'm one of my best friends is a Steelers fan.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Another one of my close friends is a is a
- 12:08Speaker 1: Titans fan. And it's interesting thing about this. There are
- 12:12Speaker 1: certain players that no matter where they go, fans are
- 12:15Speaker 1: so harsh, but certain players are just like, we love him.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Everybody in Pittsburgh loves him. Everybody in Tennessee loves him.
- 12:22Speaker 1: The people who saw him in Cleveland for an offseason
- 12:24Speaker 1: and a preseason love him. I think there's a world
- 12:27Speaker 1: where and this is where I say something on a
- 12:30Speaker 1: podcast that somebody sends me mean messages about for a
- 12:33Speaker 1: really long time. Yeah, but I think there's a world
- 12:36Speaker 1: where you know, for what you got him, for for
- 12:39Speaker 1: what his current salary is, and for what you're trying
- 12:42Speaker 1: to do. There's a world that people look back at
- 12:46Speaker 1: this in a year and a half and go, whoa
- 12:48Speaker 1: not that necessarily all of a sudden, Josh Dobbs is
- 12:51Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer, but n Achilles' injury is very severe,
- 12:56Speaker 1: and a guy like Dobbs can come in and if
- 12:58Speaker 1: he nobody ever talks about the salary cap. They just
- 13:01Speaker 1: talk about is he good? Is he? They're always like,
- 13:03Speaker 1: is Brady great? I mean, here's something that that you're
- 13:06Speaker 1: gonna feel deep in your soul. No one ever likes
- 13:09Speaker 1: to talk about the fact that Tom Brady, because of
- 13:12Speaker 1: the salary he took, has had more Top ten defenses
- 13:16Speaker 1: than Breeze, Mahomes, Rogers and all these guys combined, Manning combined.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I talk about that all the time. These guys give
- 13:26Speaker 2: up money to surround themselves with good weapons and a
- 13:30Speaker 2: great defense, Like you don't have championships unless Brady restructures
- 13:35Speaker 2: his contract every year and takes less and less money.
- 13:38Speaker 2: The reason the forty nine ers are good is because
- 13:40Speaker 2: rock Perty's making eight hundred and fifty thousand dollars. They're
- 13:44Speaker 2: starting quarterback. So I mean, hello, like money as everything.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Let's start a new podcast called Let's Talk about the
- 13:52Speaker 1: Salary Cap? Because no, the cheat code in the NFL
- 13:56Speaker 1: is and here is there anyone less qualified to have
- 13:59Speaker 1: this commonversation than me. The answer is no, but I'm
- 14:02Speaker 1: gonna continue it. I just think it's when you get
- 14:05Speaker 1: these guys who, to your point Brock Party, Jalen Hurts
- 14:09Speaker 1: for the last few years, Joe Burrow on his rookie deal,
- 14:12Speaker 1: when you get a when you get a guy And
- 14:15Speaker 1: that's the thing I'm really excited about Jordan Addison right now.
- 14:18Speaker 1: So I was at the Monday night game against the
- 14:21Speaker 1: Niners and the energy in that building and him playing
- 14:25Speaker 1: that way against the defense. If he is who he
- 14:28Speaker 1: appears to be, you now have a guy that's on
- 14:32Speaker 1: a multiple year rookie contract that could be performing at
- 14:36Speaker 1: such a high level above it. And when you get
- 14:39Speaker 1: people like that, right, you know, a Burrow Hurts, it
- 14:41Speaker 1: just changes the complexity of the way you're able to
- 14:43Speaker 1: build an entire team. Bringing this all the way back
- 14:46Speaker 1: to my crazy Josh Dobbs theory, you know, I think
- 14:50Speaker 1: it's going to be fun to see what he's able
- 14:52Speaker 1: to do with a really great offensive coach and really
- 14:56Speaker 1: really great weapons. You might sit back and go, wait
- 15:00Speaker 1: a second, the math here is pretty interesting if that
- 15:04Speaker 1: guy can play like that. So that's my hope right now.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I agree. I think it's going to look like Gina Smith.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I think it's going to look exactly like Gino Smith
- 15:13Speaker 2: last year where he came in and everyone's like, oh,
- 15:15Speaker 2: here we go. You know, the Seahawks must just be
- 15:18Speaker 2: phoning it in, and then they make the playoff, you
- 15:21Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like, you don't survive in this
- 15:22Speaker 2: league for that long. It's a you're not likable and lovable,
- 15:26Speaker 2: but a hard worker and good you're the second best
- 15:29Speaker 2: option all the time. But they're like, well, we have
- 15:32Speaker 2: to start this guy because we're paying him forty million
- 15:34Speaker 2: dollars for no reason whatsoever, because somehow that's the standard,
- 15:38Speaker 2: because the Brown's overpaid for Deshaun Watson. And now we're
- 15:41Speaker 2: all in this terrible place where we have to play
- 15:43Speaker 2: pay quarterbacks way more than we can afford and surround
- 15:47Speaker 2: them with nothing, and then have to give running backs
- 15:49Speaker 2: ten million dollars because we're out of money, because we
- 15:52Speaker 2: have to give Daniel Jones some ridiculous amount. I don't know,
- 15:55Speaker 2: because he can run, I don't know. Nobody knows why.
- 15:57Speaker 2: It's just the minimum. Now it's so dumb. You're gonna
- 16:00Speaker 2: have a great time. You guys are very lucky to
- 16:02Speaker 2: have dobs. Like when we got Heinike, I was stoked
- 16:06Speaker 2: because I know that Ridder wants to be the guy everybody.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Nobody's disputing Ridder's work ethic and like his love for
- 16:14Speaker 2: the game. His he tries so hard. But Arthur Smith
- 16:19Speaker 2: a run's quarterbacks, so that's another issue. He doesn't know
- 16:24Speaker 2: how to scheme anybody. Last year, I didn't watch Quarterback
- 16:27Speaker 2: because I did not like Mariota and I did not
- 16:29Speaker 2: want the documentary to try to make me think that
- 16:32Speaker 2: I did. So I was like, no, not watching this.
- 16:35Speaker 2: That's a trap. It's you know, it's like hard knocks.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Hard knocks will trap you into liking people again. It's
- 16:40Speaker 2: like when you watch a documentary on a serial killer
- 16:43Speaker 2: and they start talking about his parents abusing him, and
- 16:46Speaker 2: then he goes, oh, well, now I understand why he
- 16:48Speaker 2: killed people. It makes sense, poor guy, he should have
- 16:52Speaker 2: I would have killed more. You know, you're just like,
- 16:53Speaker 2: what is happening? So I, you know, I know what
- 16:57Speaker 2: it's like to have a quarterback that is awesome like
- 17:01Speaker 2: Kirk Cousins, because Matt Ryan to me, was very equivalent.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Always passed for over four thousand yards, always hitting targets,
- 17:10Speaker 2: you know, not exactly the guy like at press conferences
- 17:13Speaker 2: who he's always says the right thing. He's not controversial,
- 17:17Speaker 2: but he's really divisive. Like people think he's the problem,
- 17:20Speaker 2: and then you get somebody else in there and you go, oh, interesting.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Seems like Matt Ryan wasn't the problem. It seems like
- 17:27Speaker 2: he wasn't the problem. His contract was the problem because
- 17:30Speaker 2: they paid him way too much money for way too
- 17:32Speaker 2: many years, and so we had two years of dead
- 17:35Speaker 2: cap space to deal with. Anyway, my point is, I'm
- 17:40Speaker 2: very happy for the Vikings. I'm very happy for Josh
- 17:43Speaker 2: Stops because I think he's finally going to be a
- 17:46Speaker 2: with an offensive coordinator and a coach and with an
- 17:49Speaker 2: ownership team that it wants to win.
- 17:52Speaker 1: You know, the Cardinals, You're right, they could have been.
- 17:55Speaker 1: They could be a lot better off than they are
- 17:58Speaker 1: record wise. Yeah, but if you look at that situation
- 18:01Speaker 1: and the Tennessee playoff game, those teams have their strengths
- 18:04Speaker 1: and their weaknesses. But the thing that the Minnesota Vikings
- 18:08Speaker 1: have in spades right now is offensive talent. I mean,
- 18:12Speaker 1: when Justin Jefferson comes back, if you're going to be
- 18:15Speaker 1: throwing the ball to Jefferson, Osbourne and Hockinson, and this
- 18:19Speaker 1: old line has been playing on the level that they
- 18:21Speaker 1: have been because I think that's the thing with a
- 18:24Speaker 1: lot of quarterbacks and just a lot of people in
- 18:26Speaker 1: sports in general, is you know, you can take the
- 18:29Speaker 1: same guy and stick him in a bunch of different
- 18:32Speaker 1: situations and he'll look very different, and so it'll be
- 18:37Speaker 1: really fun to see how he looks Now. I'm I'm curious.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I don't think anybody who's like circle Falcons week nine
- 18:46Speaker 1: for the Jaren Hall Taylor Heineke, because there are people
- 18:50Speaker 1: here who are obsessed with Taylor Heineke, people who are
- 18:54Speaker 1: still angry that he's not in. When somebody was asking
- 18:58Speaker 1: me if we went and traded for somebody, who should
- 19:00Speaker 1: it be, he was my comp I was like, if
- 19:04Speaker 1: you are gonna go get somebody, you need somebody with
- 19:06Speaker 1: a little bit of that like slinger to him, like
- 19:10Speaker 1: a heinikey a Minshee. You could take Taylor Heineke into
- 19:15Speaker 1: almost any game and go, well, this is either gonna
- 19:17Speaker 1: be the best or the worst, But I don't know.
- 19:20Speaker 1: It could be the best. And the fact that he
- 19:22Speaker 1: has that glimmer of could be the best is really
- 19:25Speaker 1: really interesting to me.
- 19:26Speaker 2: First of all, he you know, with the Commanders last year,
- 19:29Speaker 2: he beat the Eagles at full force. Another somebody else
- 19:33Speaker 2: beat the Eagles last year, but it was when Hurts
- 19:35Speaker 2: was out. Heineky beat him when Hurts was in.
- 19:38Speaker 1: On that Monday night game.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yeah, the Commanders always have that division rivalry going with
- 19:44Speaker 2: the Eagles. So it's the way that, like the Dolphins
- 19:47Speaker 2: always kind of owned the Patriots even when the Patriots
- 19:50Speaker 2: had Brady, like they just had their number. They see
- 19:52Speaker 2: him the most, but like, you know, I love that
- 19:55Speaker 2: he buys a pair of Jordan's and the color of
- 19:57Speaker 2: the team that he beat every time he wins, you know.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And honestly, he's just that smart backup that you need,
- 20:04Speaker 2: like a journeyman, like a Sage Rosenfels, right, like somebody
- 20:06Speaker 2: who's just like constantly there, knows the playbook catches on quick.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I'll be here, I'll hold the clipboard. But you know,
- 20:15Speaker 2: he wants in and he can't wait. And as soon
- 20:16Speaker 2: as he goes in, he ain't coming out. And it
- 20:19Speaker 2: took way too long for him to go in. Arthur
- 20:21Speaker 2: Smith is like starting to really like I want him
- 20:24Speaker 2: to be on the bus with McDaniels, like going to
- 20:27Speaker 2: campunt together, Like I'm really sick of it. Like I've
- 20:30Speaker 2: always given Arthur Smith the benefit of the doubt, but
- 20:33Speaker 2: he's constantly trying to get cute. When you have some
- 20:36Speaker 2: of the best offensive players in the league like we
- 20:39Speaker 2: have Kyle Pitts should be one of the best tight
- 20:43Speaker 2: ends in the league. Drake London, great number, first round
- 20:46Speaker 2: wide receiver pick last year, Jon Robinson, first round running
- 20:50Speaker 2: back this year, and he's using Jon like Percy Harvin,
- 20:53Speaker 2: Like he's just like, oh, well, they know we're They're
- 20:55Speaker 2: expecting us to hand it to him, so we're not. Hey,
- 20:58Speaker 2: how about treedom like Derek can a team that you
- 21:00Speaker 2: worked with forever. Everybody knew Derek Henry was getting the ball,
- 21:04Speaker 2: and then you just give them the ball and you go, well,
- 21:05Speaker 2: try to stop it. Good luck. I bet you can't.
- 21:08Speaker 2: It's like the brotherly shove.
- 21:10Speaker 3: We know it's coming, you can't stop it, so just
- 21:12Speaker 3: give In the red zone. He ran a play in
- 21:16Speaker 3: the red zone the first time we were in the
- 21:18Speaker 3: red zone last week. He had our tight end to
- 21:21Speaker 3: throw to our tight end three and he had Kyle
- 21:24Speaker 3: Pitts blocking for them. How about we just hand it
- 21:26Speaker 3: off and then if they keep stopping us, then we
- 21:28Speaker 3: try some cute stuff.
- 21:29Speaker 2: How about we do that? Like, what are you doing?
- 21:32Speaker 2: Stop getting cute? Just run the shit that works and
- 21:35Speaker 2: then we'll figure it out. Sorry, I'm really upset.
- 21:40Speaker 1: No, I love it. Here's the thing. I love it.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Let's jay could we Let's let's just I got two
- 21:45Speaker 1: more questions and let's just let her run the whole
- 21:48Speaker 1: rest through. I could watch that for days. It's a
- 21:52Speaker 1: really unique situation. The Vikings dealt with this at times.
- 21:57Speaker 1: So in ninety eight when Moss came in and it
- 21:59Speaker 1: was like Moss, Carter, Jake Reid, Robert Smith in this
- 22:03Speaker 1: whole line, we're like, oh, we're about to When we
- 22:06Speaker 1: lost that game to you guys, the thought was like, Okay,
- 22:09Speaker 1: this is the worst, but bro, Randy Moss, here we go.
- 22:14Speaker 1: We're about to have ten years of we should get
- 22:17Speaker 1: a super Bowl in this window. And then you know,
- 22:19Speaker 1: we got the forty one donut a few years later,
- 22:23Speaker 1: and then we just kind of faded out of that
- 22:25Speaker 1: until Moss was traded. And I think anytime you feel
- 22:29Speaker 1: like you have a bunch of impressive skill players and
- 22:32Speaker 1: it's not coming together. That's a really, really hard thing.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Here's a question I have for you, though, based on
- 22:38Speaker 1: something you said in the beginning of that, cause my
- 22:42Speaker 1: eyes are always peeled for who is the next Ryan Fitzpatrick? Yeah, right,
- 22:49Speaker 1: So who's which one of these? And my candidates Taara
- 22:53Speaker 1: Heinike is on the candidate list. I think he's interesting.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I think Gardner Minshew, if by fashion alone, is interesting.
- 23:02Speaker 1: But his ability to sling it. He's got that crazy
- 23:05Speaker 1: stat that he's oh and eight in games that he's
- 23:07Speaker 1: thrown for three hundred yards. That's a wild statistic to me. Minshew,
- 23:12Speaker 1: that's Minshew. He's wow ow And you think, okay, that
- 23:15Speaker 1: probably is because he's thrown a lot when they're behind,
- 23:18Speaker 1: I would guess. But who is If you had to
- 23:21Speaker 1: pick a Fitzpatrick air apparent, who do you got in
- 23:26Speaker 1: the league?
- 23:26Speaker 2: I probably take Baker? Oh interesting, take Baker because I
- 23:31Speaker 2: think you know he'll get He'll keep getting some starting
- 23:33Speaker 2: jobs on teams that are transitioning into like finding their
- 23:38Speaker 2: right you know, draft pick guy, finding their right guy,
- 23:42Speaker 2: or someone's contract coming available and really taking it on.
- 23:46Speaker 2: But I think he's a one year guy through and
- 23:48Speaker 2: through and then he'll end up backing up a ton
- 23:51Speaker 2: of people, and he'll continually get in the way that
- 23:53Speaker 2: Gino has. And you know, but I Baker to me
- 23:58Speaker 2: is that guy. He's got a great personality. He's really
- 24:00Speaker 2: I always want to hate him because you know, I'm
- 24:02Speaker 2: a Georgia Bulldog and he played at Oklahoma and that
- 24:05Speaker 2: Rose bull together was maybe one of the best days
- 24:08Speaker 2: of my life, but also one of the most stressful.
- 24:10Speaker 2: And you know, he was just that cocky guy. But
- 24:13Speaker 2: he's really every time I see him in an interview,
- 24:16Speaker 2: I like him more and more so I think he
- 24:18Speaker 2: is I think, to me, that's my pick.
- 24:22Speaker 1: So here's my question I have for the matchup. Okay,
- 24:25Speaker 1: because I won't lie to you, I'm not. I'm not
- 24:28Speaker 1: deep dive Falcons guy. I've been. I've watched from a
- 24:32Speaker 1: far enough distance to have two opinions, and those opinions
- 24:36Speaker 1: are b Jeon Robinson is a problem. He is a beast.
- 24:41Speaker 1: And to also go to your point earlier, why isn't
- 24:46Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts the best tight end in the league. I
- 24:49Speaker 1: don't understand that. But the other thing I've noticed is
- 24:53Speaker 1: this is a top ten defense. It feels like like
- 24:56Speaker 1: a really really good defense. And then last week Will yeah,
- 25:02Speaker 1: somehow like I'll.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Tell you why. I'll tell you why Will Levis had
- 25:05Speaker 2: the game that he did last week because we didn't
- 25:07Speaker 2: respect him. We were like, all right, if you want
- 25:09Speaker 2: to beat us, you're gonna have to make a throw.
- 25:11Speaker 2: And he kept making a throw. I mean, that's exactly
- 25:13Speaker 2: what you have to do. You do it in baseball
- 25:15Speaker 2: all the time, where you go like, I'm gonna steal second,
- 25:17Speaker 2: try to throw me out, I'm going to steal home.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Good luck, make a play, make a play. You have
- 25:21Speaker 2: to let them beat you with the play. And Will
- 25:24Speaker 2: Levis kept making a play. That's all. That's exactly what happened.
- 25:27Speaker 2: And Arthur Smith continues to ruin our offense so that
- 25:30Speaker 2: we can't even match them with the score. He should
- 25:33Speaker 2: not be designing the place, he should not be calling
- 25:35Speaker 2: the place. He should be on a bus to Cancun.
- 25:38Speaker 2: But that's that's that. So we'll see what happened this week.
- 25:42Speaker 2: You know, obviously Heinike is way more accurate.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Can you take that same approach with Jaron Hall? Can
- 25:47Speaker 1: I get a message in there that like, hey, can
- 25:49Speaker 1: you guys just.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I guarantee that's what they're gonna do. They're gonna have
- 25:52Speaker 2: to that. If I was running the defense, I would
- 25:54Speaker 2: be constantly I would be blitzing NonStop.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yeah, show us, show us you can beat us.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Yeah, show us that you can beat us with your arm.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Let your arm beat us. You know what I mean.
- 26:03Speaker 2: You're gonna have to hand it off a few times.
- 26:04Speaker 2: You can only do that so many times because you know,
- 26:07Speaker 2: we'll be able to get to your running back. And
- 26:09Speaker 2: we do have great secondaries. We just didn't respect Will Levis,
- 26:13Speaker 2: you know, but he got respect. And then whoever they
- 26:17Speaker 2: played this week will have you know, they'll have to
- 26:19Speaker 2: take that into account. Yeah.
- 26:21Speaker 1: The other thing that makes the Dobbs trade so interesting
- 26:24Speaker 1: is it's a really unique moment. You know, to lose
- 26:27Speaker 1: Kirk after winning three straight and coming to four and four,
- 26:32Speaker 1: the NFC doesn't seem as powerful as it's been years past.
- 26:37Speaker 1: There seems to be a lot more parody and a
- 26:39Speaker 1: lot more opportunity. You get these next two against the
- 26:42Speaker 1: Falcons and the Saints, you go, oh my god, we're
- 26:44Speaker 1: six and four. We're right there. But you lose the
- 26:46Speaker 1: next two and you're like, oh my god, we're four
- 26:47Speaker 1: and six and we're fault.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Like.
- 26:49Speaker 1: It's a very unsettling feeling to have this crucial game
- 26:54Speaker 1: against a good defense without Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson.
- 26:59Speaker 1: So if somehow they pull it off, I think my
- 27:03Speaker 1: confidence and cocky meter, yeh, will be so disgusting. I'm
- 27:08Speaker 1: the guy who last year they were they won thirteen games,
- 27:11Speaker 1: and I was like, I don't think they can. I
- 27:13Speaker 1: think they'll for sure lose whoever they play like. I
- 27:16Speaker 1: just didn't have that. And then if they I will
- 27:19Speaker 1: feel the opposite if somehow they get this game, because
- 27:21Speaker 1: I do. You said this about the Cardinals. I do
- 27:24Speaker 1: think you guys are in the same boat. I think
- 27:27Speaker 1: you could easily be two three games above five hundred.
- 27:31Speaker 1: The talent is there, and you guys can put it
- 27:33Speaker 1: together and be a scary team. I mean we've seen
- 27:36Speaker 1: that all year long.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, we should definitely, we should definitely be
- 27:41Speaker 2: you know, five and three instead of four and four.
- 27:46Speaker 2: But you know, we've also won some games at the
- 27:49Speaker 2: very end. You know, we're better on the road this year,
- 27:52Speaker 2: which is kind of weird. But like, yeah, I don't know,
- 27:55Speaker 2: I really don't know, but you know, sometimes it's easier
- 27:58Speaker 2: to come from that position of just like everything's even.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Everyone kind of has a shot. No one's excellent, no
- 28:04Speaker 2: one's amazing. Like even the Chiefs are losing, and the
- 28:08Speaker 2: Eagles are not what they used to be. They definitely
- 28:10Speaker 2: miss their offensive coordinator and their defensive coordinator. And that
- 28:14Speaker 2: is showing they could easily be four and four. They
- 28:18Speaker 2: could easily be four and four. They've had to really
- 28:21Speaker 2: kick it out in these last few games. The forty
- 28:23Speaker 2: nine ers are showing their true colors because Kyle Shanahan
- 28:26Speaker 2: is doing what Kyle Shanahan does, and he goes backwards.
- 28:31Speaker 2: You know, I thought Miami. I was like, Oh, who's
- 28:33Speaker 2: going to beat Miami? And then you're like, oh, they can't.
- 28:35Speaker 1: They can't play against a real team.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they ca you.
- 28:38Speaker 1: They're my favorite team that's not a Vikings team right now.
- 28:41Speaker 1: But they are so interesting where you're like, when you
- 28:44Speaker 1: play the Patriots, you look like the greatest team to
- 28:49Speaker 1: ever take a football field, and you play the Bills
- 28:52Speaker 1: and it's I've never seen anything like the dichotomy between
- 28:57Speaker 1: the performances against good and.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Less good time. If there's a defense that can stop
- 29:02Speaker 2: them from scoring, their defense can't stop anybody. So as
- 29:06Speaker 2: long as your team can score points, you got a
- 29:08Speaker 2: real shot against the Dolphins.
- 29:10Speaker 1: What So, let me ask you a couple fan questions.
- 29:13Speaker 1: How do you consume the game on Sundays? Are you
- 29:16Speaker 1: a go watch it with people? Are you the sort
- 29:18Speaker 1: of psycho that can't have others around? What is your
- 29:22Speaker 1: way to bring football into your life?
- 29:25Speaker 2: Well, we will put three TVs in the living room
- 29:31Speaker 2: and then for the afternoon games, we turn one of
- 29:33Speaker 2: those TVs onto Spidery in fronts so my son has
- 29:36Speaker 2: something to watch. So we go in the morning, we
- 29:40Speaker 2: go to this bouncy house park where my son is
- 29:42Speaker 2: three and a half, so we make him jump and
- 29:45Speaker 2: jump and jump and get tired so that you know,
- 29:47Speaker 2: he usually takes a nap by eleven thirty, so it's
- 29:50Speaker 2: around halftime of the morning games. So then by the
- 29:54Speaker 2: time he takes a nap, I can watch the end
- 29:55Speaker 2: of the game and Chris watches his game or Red Zone.
- 29:59Speaker 2: So we usually have two games on and Red Zone
- 30:01Speaker 2: in the morning, and we put a TV outside too
- 30:04Speaker 2: so that we if we're going to the pool, we
- 30:07Speaker 2: can watch the games.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Nice. Nice, yeah, are you do you have a superstitious
- 30:12Speaker 1: at all? Do you have any Does that stuff affect you?
- 30:14Speaker 2: Not for the regular season, but like if I were
- 30:17Speaker 2: to be wearing something during the playoffs, I would keep
- 30:20Speaker 2: it on for the next game until we lose. Like
- 30:23Speaker 2: that's really all I do.
- 30:25Speaker 1: How many games do you get to? Do you like
- 30:26Speaker 1: to watch them at home? Or do you like to
- 30:28Speaker 1: go to the events?
- 30:30Speaker 2: For Falcons games, I only come if they're like in
- 30:34Speaker 2: town playing the Chargers of the Rams, But you know,
- 30:38Speaker 2: Braves games, I travel all over.
- 30:40Speaker 1: This is a Viking show. But there could be a
- 30:42Speaker 1: whole separate Braves twins discussion here. The first it's a
- 30:48Speaker 1: flat flop of the ninety eight thing. How I feel
- 30:51Speaker 1: about ninety eight? I feel the opposite of ninety one.
- 30:54Speaker 1: It had to have been a weird more like the
- 30:57Speaker 1: quintessential sports moment of my childhood is Kirby Pucket catching
- 31:03Speaker 1: that ball and hitting that home run. Yeah, and then
- 31:06Speaker 1: Jack Morris pitching that shutout with how long it took
- 31:09Speaker 1: for the Braves, because the Braves they had that like
- 31:13Speaker 1: Phil Mickelson before he won a title.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Thing.
- 31:15Speaker 1: You're like, this is the best team I've ever seen,
- 31:17Speaker 1: with the best staff I've ever seen. Why the hell
- 31:20Speaker 1: can't they quite get there was that just an unbelievable
- 31:23Speaker 1: moment when they finally got over the hill.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and ninety five, Yeah, but I think it
- 31:28Speaker 2: was honestly sweeter in twenty twenty one, you know what
- 31:31Speaker 2: I mean. Like, but again, it I think in baseball
- 31:36Speaker 2: kind of similar to football, where you know, if you're
- 31:39Speaker 2: always the best team, you're not mentally prepared to struggle
- 31:43Speaker 2: and have to fight it out in a game, you
- 31:45Speaker 2: know what I mean. And in those years in the
- 31:48Speaker 2: nineties and even these last seven years with the Braves,
- 31:50Speaker 2: it's like you weren't ever in situations where you had
- 31:54Speaker 2: to fight for the Braves. This year, I think we
- 31:57Speaker 2: clinched home field advantage for the rest of the playoff
- 32:00Speaker 2: some September twentieth, like fifteen days before the season even ended. Yeah,
- 32:05Speaker 2: And then you're like throwing sim games, like how can
- 32:07Speaker 2: you be mentally prepared for somebody like Bryce Harper to
- 32:11Speaker 2: try to turn some sort of twisted thing around to
- 32:14Speaker 2: come in and be like scaring down somebody like he's
- 32:16Speaker 2: literally the worst human being on the planet. But that's
- 32:19Speaker 2: what makes sports fun. You have to have villains and enemies,
- 32:22Speaker 2: and you have to have people that you ads to
- 32:24Speaker 2: absolutely despise or else it's not fun.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I'm a Jordan guy when it comes to talking about
- 32:30Speaker 1: the greatest athletes of all time. But I me being
- 32:34Speaker 1: a Jordan guy doesn't make me not a Lebron guy. Yes, yeah,
- 32:39Speaker 1: as we now touch every sport possible in this podcast,
- 32:43Speaker 1: but I'm always fascinated. Even the people who don't like
- 32:46Speaker 1: Lebron are like, I can't wait till he's now. It's like,
- 32:48Speaker 1: what do you Lebron's existence like these great player Tom
- 32:53Speaker 1: Brady's existence like you either it's fun to root for
- 32:58Speaker 1: them because you got your fortune enough that they landed
- 33:01Speaker 1: in front of your fan base, or when your team
- 33:05Speaker 1: is out, they create the sort of interest like do
- 33:08Speaker 1: you know how many times I rooted against people in
- 33:12Speaker 1: a championship game and invested in the other. So I'm
- 33:16Speaker 1: with you, I think to me, the villains are never
- 33:18Speaker 1: like I can't stand this guy and I wish he
- 33:21Speaker 1: wasn't around. They're more like, I just love to root
- 33:24Speaker 1: against you.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Yeah. So I always say that the astro scandal was
- 33:29Speaker 2: so good for baseball because it gave everyone a common
- 33:31Speaker 2: enemy and it gave us all you know this like
- 33:35Speaker 2: new fan like interest all of a sudden in baseball,
- 33:38Speaker 2: and then the Dodgers made it about them, and then
- 33:41Speaker 2: now you know, I hate the Dodgers even more if
- 33:43Speaker 2: the Dodgers made that whole scandal about them, It's like, well,
- 33:47Speaker 2: we should have won the World Series instead of them,
- 33:49Speaker 2: And you're like, uh, you had home field advantage and
- 33:52Speaker 2: you you lost two games at home, you idiots.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Funny an LA based team made it all about when
- 34:00Speaker 1: it wasn't that's Isn't that weird? Isn't that weird? How
- 34:03Speaker 1: it works out?

- 34:47Speaker 2: and I don't know. I mean, I think it's gonna
- 34:49Speaker 2: be a great game, but I do think that we
- 34:51Speaker 2: should win this game. But every time that we should
- 34:54Speaker 2: win something we don't.
- 34:56Speaker 4: So it's spoken like an ab absolutely scorn somebody who
- 35:03Speaker 4: has spoken like somebody who cried in the bathroom at
- 35:06Speaker 4: the Super Bowl, and I appreciate that a lot.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with I think our defense has been
