Latest / Outspoken the Podcast / Lucy & Nikki’s Apology Has Gone to the Dogs
Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Amy Torber.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I'm Kate Torber.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And I'm Sophie Torber.
- 0:13Speaker 3: And coming up on today's show, the fallout continues from
- 0:16Speaker 3: the Lucy and Nikki.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Adelaide live show.
- 0:19Speaker 3: But first, could Tammy Hembrough be engaged for the fourth time? Well,
- 0:23Speaker 3: that is certainly what the fitness influencer and her boyfriend,
- 0:26Speaker 3: Grayson Timoana, want you to think. The 23-year-old posted a
- 0:30Speaker 3: not-so-cryptic photo of the influencer showing off a diamond ring
- 0:34Speaker 3: on her wedding finger in his latest TikTok photo dump.
- 0:38Speaker 1: To top it off, he captioned the post with a
- 0:40Speaker 1: ring and dancing man emoji. Is anyone buying this? Short answer, no.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I mean, I don't want to sound cynical, but at
- 0:47Speaker 1: this point, it just seems like a complete attention grab,
- 0:50Speaker 1: a nice boost for the social media engagement. Well, ironically,
- 0:53Speaker 1: when I came across the post, it actually didn't have
- 0:55Speaker 1: that much engagement, even though it had been up for
- 0:57Speaker 1: about 10 hours. That's because he only has 5,000 followers
- 1:01Speaker 1: on TikTok and that is despite the fact that he
- 1:02Speaker 1: continually posts Tammy Hembrough in his content. Obviously now the
- 1:07Speaker 1: post has gone off though because Influencer.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Updates was the first to share about it. It now
- 1:12Speaker 3: has 127,000 views.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Well, the photo was also buried in his photo dump.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It was like picture five or something. So unless you're
- 1:19Speaker 1: really invested and you're going through all of the shirtless
- 1:22Speaker 1: pics and the pics of him on stage and all
- 1:24Speaker 1: that kind of stuff, you would have missed it. Do
- 1:26Speaker 1: you think Tammy was aware he was going to post
- 1:29Speaker 1: that photo? Well, I mean, she was clearly posing in
- 1:31Speaker 1: the photo and I think they were potentially playing into
- 1:34Speaker 1: that paparazzi video of them at the airport that went viral.
- 1:38Speaker 1: So a Daily Mail paparazzo asked where they were flying
- 1:40Speaker 1: to and they were on their way to Adelaide and
- 1:42Speaker 1: Tammy replied coyly, a surprise. Now, when asked if that
- 1:46Speaker 1: surprise was an engagement, she laughed.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And said, Maybe.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I mean, we all know now that that surprise was
- 1:51Speaker 1: her appearing at Lucy and Nikki's live show, but it's
- 1:53Speaker 1: interesting that they were even playing into that rumor. Normally
- 1:56Speaker 1: I would say that any PR is good PR for
- 1:58Speaker 1: Tammy Hembrough and Grayson, but I think people are getting
- 2:01Speaker 1: tired of it. Like we all know that this really
- 2:04Speaker 1: isn't an engagement and I think it's annoying people, all
- 2:07Speaker 1: this baiting of it.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Yeah, but in saying that, she's still getting a lot
- 2:10Speaker 3: of attention over it. I think Tammy definitely knows how
- 2:12Speaker 3: to play the game and how to keep her followers
- 2:15Speaker 3: on their toes. I mean, This has been picked up
- 2:17Speaker 3: everywhere in the mainstream media. I'm sure she's had huge
- 2:20Speaker 3: traffic over to her page.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And to Grayson's.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Well, yeah, she's a genius when it comes to continually
- 2:27Speaker 3: having people buy into her life. Otherwise, she'd become irrelevant.
- 2:30Speaker 3: But she's still one of Australia's biggest influencers. Do you
- 2:33Speaker 3: think that this is an attempt to divert attention away
- 2:36Speaker 3: from all of the Lucy and Nikki stuff?
- 2:38Speaker 1: Personally, not.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Because if anything, I think the way that the Lucy
- 2:40Speaker 3: and Nikki drama has played out it's painted Tammy in
- 2:43Speaker 3: quite a favourable light, even though she said a couple
- 2:45Speaker 3: of controversial things because people felt really sorry for her,
- 2:49Speaker 3: the fact that she was so nervous on stage and
- 2:51Speaker 3: that they felt like it was unfair to put a
- 2:53Speaker 3: friend in that position. I think it's just a way
- 2:57Speaker 3: of keeping the stories rolling about her. And I think
- 3:00Speaker 3: that she also just gets caught up in these relationships
- 3:03Speaker 3: and she's probably trying to Well, not put the pressure on,
- 3:06Speaker 3: but she's probably trying to put it out there to
- 3:08Speaker 3: Grace and, hey, this is something that I do want
- 3:09Speaker 3: to do. I do want to get married again one day.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I do think you could be.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Onto something, Amy, regarding diverting attention away from something. I
- 3:16Speaker 1: don't think it's a Lucy and Nikki live show because
- 3:18Speaker 1: there are quite a number of comments still left up
- 3:20Speaker 1: on her TikTok about it that she hasn't removed. There
- 3:23Speaker 1: must be something else going on in the pipeline because
- 3:26Speaker 1: it is a usual tactic that she uses to divert
- 3:29Speaker 1: attention away or, as we've touched on, to gain attention. Look,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I guess only time will tell. I have a theory though.
- 3:35Speaker 3: My theory is that she is potentially trying to take
- 3:39Speaker 3: away some of the attention that Matt Paul and his
- 3:43Speaker 3: fiancee Annalise Oatway are about to get because they're getting
- 3:45Speaker 3: married in a couple of weeks time. And Tammy did
- 3:48Speaker 3: a similar thing when Annalise's son Parker was born. So
- 3:52Speaker 3: on the day of his birth, Tammy posted about feeling clucky.
- 3:57Speaker 3: And that was when I think she, at the time
- 4:00Speaker 3: she had broken up with Matt Sikowsky and But she
- 4:02Speaker 3: posted that weird Twilight movie and was like, oh, it
- 4:06Speaker 3: was after some AI kid.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And she's like, oh my God, I feel so clucky.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I want another child.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And people were saying that was a bit harsh considering
- 4:11Speaker 3: Matt had openly spoken about being infertile.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And we've got to remember, this isn't the first time
- 4:16Speaker 1: Tammy and Grayson have baited something like this. So last month,
- 4:19Speaker 1: the couple sparked pregnancy rumors when they uploaded a tick
- 4:23Speaker 1: form that said yes to Tammy being in her first
- 4:25Speaker 1: trimester of pregnancy. And that was, again, something that was
- 4:28Speaker 1: posted by Grayson In a similar manner, it was a
- 4:31Speaker 1: part of a photo dump.
- 4:33Speaker 3: It's very curious to me that it's always Grayson who
- 4:36Speaker 3: is soft launching these supposed milestone.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Moments in their relationship.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I wonder if this is a strategy by the couple
- 4:42Speaker 3: to help grow his social media following.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But I mean, it doesn't really seem to be working.
- 4:47Speaker 1: It actually just makes him look bad because it looks
- 4:49Speaker 1: like he is chasing clout and followers, which I thought
- 4:52Speaker 1: that they might try and steer clear of.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Hmm. I feel like if you're to date Tammy Hembrough,
- 4:57Speaker 3: you almost want to look like you're not interested in
- 4:59Speaker 3: the attention. You want to be that background character. You
- 5:02Speaker 3: don't want to be pushing all of the narratives through
- 5:04Speaker 3: your own channels. Now, in terms of this ring, one
- 5:08Speaker 3: eagle-eyed follower believes it actually belongs to Tammy's best friend,
- 5:11Speaker 3: Isabel Laws. And when you do put the two photos together,
- 5:15Speaker 3: there is a striking resemblance. Also, the first thing I
- 5:18Speaker 3: noticed about the ring on Tammy, was it a look
- 5:20Speaker 3: too big?
- 5:21Speaker 1: I mean, the thing is, sometimes your partner can get
- 5:23Speaker 1: it wrong if they haven't sized your ring properly. But
- 5:26Speaker 1: it did look odd. Do you know what the first
- 5:28Speaker 1: thing I actually noticed though, Soph, was? The wedding date
- 5:31Speaker 1: to Matt Sikowsky tattooed on her wrist.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Well, when you compare it to her engagement with Matt Sikowsky,
- 5:36Speaker 3: she has actually been with Grayson for longer, if you
- 5:38Speaker 3: can believe it. She soft launched her relationship with him.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Seven months ago, she was only with Matt for three
- 5:44Speaker 3: months before their engagement in the Maldives.
- 5:46Speaker 1: So perhaps Grayson needs to get a move on. Is
- 5:49Speaker 1: that what you're saying, Zoe? People speculate on if we're
- 5:53Speaker 1: still close. Like, I still feel really close to you.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I feel so close to you. You probably could have
- 5:58Speaker 1: called me back yesterday quicker, but anyway. Nah, f * * * it.
- 6:01Speaker 1: On Thursday, Lucy and Nikki finally addressed the backlash from
- 6:05Speaker 1: their controversial interview with Tammy Hembrough, acknowledging that they missed
- 6:09Speaker 1: the mark at their Adelaide live show. However, just hours later,
- 6:13Speaker 1: the podcasters took aim at us, resharing a photo of
- 6:16Speaker 1: us backstage with dog heads and Karen haircuts superimposed. Soph,
- 6:21Speaker 1: before we get into it, can you bring listeners up
- 6:23Speaker 1: to speed with all of the drama from the past week?
- 6:26Speaker 3: Yeah, well, as you touched on, the podcasters were in
- 6:29Speaker 3: hot water over their uncensored interview with Tammy Hembrough. Inadvertedly,
- 6:33Speaker 3: we became part of the story after uploading clips of
- 6:36Speaker 3: the interview to our social channels. And from there, the
- 6:39Speaker 3: criticism of Lucy and Nikki's conduct on stage started mounting. Ironically,
- 6:44Speaker 3: the only reason we were in attendance at the live
- 6:47Speaker 3: show was because Lucy invited us to roast her and
- 6:50Speaker 3: Nikki on stage. Now that we are all up to speed,
- 6:52Speaker 3: we need to get into the latest developments. So it
- 6:55Speaker 3: took Lucy and Nikki five days to publicly respond to
- 6:59Speaker 3: the backlash. On Thursday, they broke their silence posting this
- 7:03Speaker 3: statement on their joint Instagram story. They wrote, in light
- 7:06Speaker 3: of our recent show in Adelaide and some of the
- 7:08Speaker 3: videos that have come out, we wanted to say a
- 7:11Speaker 3: few things in regard to our segment with Tammy. We
- 7:13Speaker 3: had Tammy on as a guest, but more important, a
- 7:16Speaker 3: friend of ours. While the majority of questions were agreed
- 7:19Speaker 3: on beforehand, there were additional questions and comments made in
- 7:22Speaker 3: the moment which unfortunately missed the mark. Our intention was
- 7:26Speaker 3: never to put her on the spot or in an
- 7:28Speaker 3: uncomfortable position. We absolutely love Tammy and are so grateful
- 7:31Speaker 3: she agreed to be our surprise guest. We work really
- 7:34Speaker 3: hard to make our show a fun and safe space
- 7:36Speaker 3: for our guests and punters. So what we will do
- 7:39Speaker 3: from this situation is learn and put the right processes
- 7:42Speaker 3: in place to make sure it doesn't happen again.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Big love, L and N.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Now, the first thing I thought when I heard about
- 7:50Speaker 3: putting the right processes in place was, does that mean
- 7:52Speaker 3: that they're not going to invite any influencer podcasts or
- 7:55Speaker 3: social media accounts to come along? Because that really seem
- 7:58Speaker 3: to be like, well, from what I draw from that apology,
- 8:01Speaker 3: it seems like that's what they regret, not so much
- 8:03Speaker 3: what they said on stage.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it didn't really make a lot of sense to
- 8:07Speaker 2: me either.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I think they need to elaborate on what they'd actually
- 8:09Speaker 1: learnt and also the situation that they're trying to avoid
- 8:13Speaker 1: in the future. Is it that you don't want a
- 8:15Speaker 1: guest to feel uncomfortable while you're interviewing them on stage
- 8:19Speaker 1: and therefore you are going to change processes like not
- 8:22Speaker 1: being intoxicated on stage? Or is it that you don't
- 8:25Speaker 1: want the content being seen by the general public? So
- 8:28Speaker 1: then are you going to ban people from filming at
- 8:30Speaker 1: the show?
- 8:31Speaker 3: I doubt they'll ban people from filming at their show
- 8:34Speaker 3: because it's just pure marketing for them at the end
- 8:36Speaker 3: of the day. People post highlights from the show online
- 8:40Speaker 3: and it builds up hype around their show. I find
- 8:42Speaker 3: it really interesting that they say they want to put
- 8:44Speaker 3: the right processes in place to avoid this happening again.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Yet at the start of their statement, they say, oh,
- 8:51Speaker 3: you know, the protocols were all right. We had the
- 8:53Speaker 3: questions approved beforehand. Well, it's like, well, okay, well, what process...
- 8:58Speaker 3: did you have wrong then? Was it just the fact
- 8:59Speaker 3: that you pushed it and asked additional questions?
- 9:02Speaker 1: I mean, the whole apology was vague and I say apology,
- 9:06Speaker 1: but the word sorry wasn't used at any point. And
- 9:08Speaker 1: I felt like there was a bit of defensive language
- 9:11Speaker 1: in there saying, oh, it wasn't our intention to put
- 9:13Speaker 1: Tammy in an uncomfortable spot. Well, that was actually the result.
- 9:16Speaker 1: So it doesn't matter if it wasn't your intention.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I also think that an apology like this deserves space
- 9:21Speaker 3: on your feed, not on an Instagram story that disappears
- 9:24Speaker 3: after 24 hours. It's quite interesting because the girls have
- 9:27Speaker 3: so many different accounts. So they've got the Happy Hour
- 9:29Speaker 3: podcast account, the Lucy and Nikki account, then their own
- 9:32Speaker 3: personal accounts. I think that it should have been on
- 9:35Speaker 3: their personal accounts. I also think that Lucy should have
- 9:38Speaker 3: taken more accountability and maybe done her own separate apology
- 9:42Speaker 3: because she was the one who was asking a lot
- 9:44Speaker 3: of the controversial questions and who behaved quite badly on stage.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I mean, I actually feel a bit sorry.
- 9:49Speaker 3: For Nikki who's been dragged into this because I think
- 9:53Speaker 3: that she was really trying to rein Lucy back in.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I tend to agree.
- 9:57Speaker 1: One of the lines that really stood out to me
- 9:59Speaker 1: in this day was the last line, and that was
- 10:01Speaker 1: about how they're working hard to make sure that their
- 10:04Speaker 1: show is a fun and safe space for guests. Now, we,
- 10:07Speaker 1: of course, were guests at their show, and I found
- 10:09Speaker 1: it very ironic that after making this statement, they then
- 10:13Speaker 1: posted a photo of us backstage at their show and
- 10:17Speaker 1: with dog faces super imposed on us, didn't really make
- 10:21Speaker 1: me feel very safe and welcomed.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Well, as well as dog faces, there were little Karen
- 10:26Speaker 3: wigs and they wrote, thanks for a rip a week
- 10:28Speaker 3: girls and tagged our Instagram account. Now to peel back
- 10:31Speaker 3: the curtain, it was around seven o'clock at night. My
- 10:35Speaker 3: husband was getting my son to bed.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I literally had just sat.
- 10:38Speaker 3: On the couch after a big day and I saw
- 10:42Speaker 3: the apology pop up.
- 10:43Speaker 1: It was from four hours before. I hadn't been on
- 10:45Speaker 1: my phone. I was like, oh, okay, they've apologised.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Literally five minutes later, I get this notification saying, happy
- 10:51Speaker 3: I'll have tagged you in a post. And I immediately
- 10:53Speaker 3: clicked on it and my heart sank when I saw
- 10:56Speaker 3: that picture.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Like I felt so embarrassed.
- 10:59Speaker 3: It was almost like the cool kids at school had
- 11:01Speaker 3: put something up to bully you and poke fun at you.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Like it just felt so high school.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it really took me back to our high school days.
- 11:09Speaker 2: It was just so degrading.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And I just.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Personally couldn't get over how immature the whole thing was.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I mean, the irony.
- 11:16Speaker 1: of being on the receiving end of the type of
- 11:18Speaker 1: behavior that Lucy and Nikki were literally being criticized for
- 11:22Speaker 1: doing on stage.
- 11:22Speaker 2: To Tammy Hembrough was not lost on me at all.
- 11:25Speaker 1: The whole thing makes no sense to me.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Like if you were called out for being mean girls,
- 11:29Speaker 3: and I do hate that term, but for mean girl behavior,
- 11:33Speaker 3: why would you then try and defend yourself? by posting
- 11:36Speaker 3: dog faces on people who gave up their.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Time to be on your show.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Look, it makes no sense to me.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And we obviously went back and forth trying to think
- 11:45Speaker 1: about the best way to respond to this. I mean,
- 11:47Speaker 1: we had an.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Open message thread with Lucy after the show.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And the last message we sent was a message saying, look,
- 11:54Speaker 1: I think at some point you need to take accountability
- 11:57Speaker 1: for what happened on stage rather than blaming us for
- 11:59Speaker 1: posting videos about what happened. And she never responded to
- 12:03Speaker 1: that message. Days had passed and then she decided to
- 12:06Speaker 1: put that post up.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there was an open line of communication,
- 12:10Speaker 3: but obviously the last message, as you said, Kate, wasn't
- 12:13Speaker 3: responded to. Now, we ended up sharing this defaced photo
- 12:17Speaker 3: to Instagram as.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Well as a statement.
- 12:19Speaker 3: So we wrote, well, doesn't Lucy and Nikki's response to
- 12:21Speaker 3: their live show criticism speak volumes? After five days to
- 12:25Speaker 3: reflect on legitimate feedback after their interview with Tammy Hembrough,
- 12:28Speaker 3: they released a statement earlier today saying they would learn
- 12:31Speaker 3: from the situation. However, it's clear they actually haven't taken
- 12:35Speaker 3: accountability for their actions because hours later they shifted the
- 12:39Speaker 3: blame to us, labelling us dogs and Karens for simply
- 12:42Speaker 3: reporting on what happened in front of thousands of people.
- 12:46Speaker 3: A real professional way to treat fellow podcasters who gave
- 12:49Speaker 3: up their time for free to be part of their
- 12:51Speaker 3: live show. Disappointing is an understatement. Sadly, this response only
- 12:55Speaker 3: validates the criticism they've received the last couple of days.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Now that post absolutely blew up. At the time of recording,
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's had over 280,000 views and we were absolutely overwhelmed
- 13:07Speaker 1: by the love and support from our listeners. If you
- 13:09Speaker 1: took your time to message us and we had hundreds
- 13:12Speaker 1: of messages, thank you so much because it really made
- 13:15Speaker 1: us feel so much better and so grateful for this
- 13:18Speaker 1: community we have built.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Oh, I was overwhelmed because as I said, to be honest,
- 13:23Speaker 3: like when you are tagged in something like that, it
- 13:25Speaker 3: can feel pretty deflating. And as I said, embarrassing, but
- 13:29Speaker 3: It made me feel so much better to have so
- 13:32Speaker 3: many thoughtful, kind comments directed our way, particularly applauding us
- 13:37Speaker 3: for having integrity as journalists. And I really loved that
- 13:40Speaker 3: people understood where we were coming from.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Well, even just checking in and saying like, are you
- 13:44Speaker 1: guys okay? It actually validated. It's okay to be upset
- 13:48Speaker 1: about this. It's okay to feel like you've had the
- 13:50Speaker 1: wind knocked out of you. Yeah. I thought it was
- 13:53Speaker 1: important to address some of the questions that have popped
- 13:56Speaker 1: up since we actually did Tuesday's episode and then off
- 13:59Speaker 1: the back of this post. Because one of the main
- 14:01Speaker 1: questions that we got centered around what our relationship is
- 14:05Speaker 1: like with Lucy and Nikki now. I mean, I feel
- 14:07Speaker 1: like that dog post kind of answers it for you.
- 14:10Speaker 1: But to provide some context, we've actually don't really have,
- 14:13Speaker 1: I would say, a friendship with Lucy and Nikki. It's
- 14:15Speaker 1: only ever been a working relationship. So Lucy has messaged
- 14:19Speaker 1: us a handful of times on Instagram. She also asked
- 14:24Speaker 1: us to give her a call to help talk her
- 14:26Speaker 1: through like a podcast question.
- 14:29Speaker 2: But that's really it.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the extent of the relationship. I mean, as
- 14:33Speaker 1: I said, the girls were really lovely in person and,
- 14:36Speaker 1: you know, welcomed us with hugs at the live show.
- 14:39Speaker 3: But, yeah, we had a quick chat backstage, but that
- 14:42Speaker 3: really was it. I mean, it's interesting because when the
- 14:46Speaker 3: dog post was shared, Lucy– Jackson blocked us from every
- 14:51Speaker 3: single channel.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So I can't see her content anymore. I want to
- 14:55Speaker 1: point out that Nikki hasn't done the same. So a
- 14:57Speaker 1: lot of this seems to be coming from Lucy, potentially
- 15:00Speaker 1: because she was our point of contact.
- 15:02Speaker 3: I also want to talk about why we didn't remove
- 15:07Speaker 3: the vision from the live show, even though Lucy asked
- 15:10Speaker 3: us to. Now, I want to point out that we
- 15:13Speaker 3: were put in a really difficult situation. While we really
- 15:16Speaker 3: appreciated being invited to be part of their live show,
- 15:19Speaker 3: It also is our job to cover influencer news. And
- 15:23Speaker 3: I think if we pretended the interview just didn't happen
- 15:26Speaker 3: just to appease Lucy and Nikki, our journalistic integrity would
- 15:30Speaker 3: have been called into question, particularly when you've got thousands of.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Other people who were there and filmed it and heard
- 15:36Speaker 1: the interview. Also, we actually met a lot of listeners
- 15:39Speaker 1: after the show who came up and wanted to hear
- 15:42Speaker 1: our opinions on the interview. So we could hardly just
- 15:45Speaker 1: pretend that it never happened and never talk about it again,
- 15:49Speaker 1: just because Lucy asked us not to. Yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 3: And I think the one thing that has set our
- 15:54Speaker 3: content apart from others is that we aren't swayed by influences.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You know, a couple of years ago, we.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Were critical of the fact that Shameless seemed to go
- 16:02Speaker 3: easy on a couple of Melbourne influences because they were
- 16:05Speaker 3: then in their orbit and they became friendly. And That's
- 16:07Speaker 3: something that we've always been really mindful of because I
- 16:10Speaker 3: personally wouldn't want to listen to a podcast where I
- 16:12Speaker 3: know some people are being favoured purely because they move in.
- 16:15Speaker 1: The same friendship circles.
- 16:16Speaker 3: I also think that this is important context. So following
- 16:20Speaker 3: our appearance on stage, which was within the first 10
- 16:22Speaker 3: minutes of the show, we then didn't see the girls.
- 16:24Speaker 3: So we didn't go backstage at all. We didn't see
- 16:27Speaker 3: them after the show. So the first time we heard
- 16:30Speaker 3: from them was the following day, late in the afternoon,
- 16:34Speaker 3: asking us to take the videos down. May I add,
- 16:37Speaker 3: the videos had already been liked by Lucy. So it
- 16:41Speaker 3: seemed like the request only came once they realized that
- 16:45Speaker 3: they were receiving some criticism in the comment section. And
- 16:48Speaker 3: I just personally think if people had given up their
- 16:50Speaker 3: time to appear on my show, I might follow up
- 16:52Speaker 3: the next day with a thank you message instead of
- 16:54Speaker 3: a strong message asking you to immediately take vision down. Yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I mean, the message was like, oh, hey, by the way,
- 17:01Speaker 1: thanks for being on the show, but can you do X, Y,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and Z and do it right now? And we were
- 17:04Speaker 1: messaged on multiple platforms, this demand coming through. I mean,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I was actually at a Father's Day dinner and it
- 17:12Speaker 1: ruined my whole evening, like just to put it out there.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I wonder if it's got anything to do with the
- 17:17Speaker 1: fact that Lucy and Nikki perhaps thought that because we
- 17:21Speaker 1: run an influencer-focused podcast, we're fangirls and that we might
- 17:26Speaker 1: bow down to this request. Because when we interviewed them
- 17:28Speaker 1: on stage, they made this throwaway line about how it's
- 17:31Speaker 1: good to keep media close. So perhaps they thought having
- 17:35Speaker 1: us on the show would mean that we were indebted
- 17:37Speaker 1: to them.
- 17:37Speaker 2: They had us in their pocket.
- 17:39Speaker 1: So if a negative story came up, we wouldn't cover it.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I mean, To be honest, that would be quite a
- 17:45Speaker 1: clever strategy to have.
- 17:46Speaker 3: The thing that really got me offside straight away with
- 17:49Speaker 3: Lucy's text message was that she essentially said that by
- 17:53Speaker 3: us resharing the content from their live show, that it
- 17:57Speaker 3: was encouraging bullying and it was really damaging to.
- 18:00Speaker 1: The people involved.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Mind you, this was content that she thought was appropriate
- 18:04Speaker 3: to share on stage in front of a live audience.
- 18:06Speaker 3: of thousands of people all with their phones in their hands.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and another bit that stood out to me was
- 18:11Speaker 1: this framing that they were concerned about Tammy and how
- 18:15Speaker 1: she would feel. But it became very apparent it was
- 18:17Speaker 1: actually her own reputation that she was worried about. She
- 18:20Speaker 1: used phrases like that they were in damage control and
- 18:23Speaker 1: that they were complaining that they no longer had control
- 18:27Speaker 1: over the narrative. That's the thing.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Straight away I could see through this and I was like,
- 18:30Speaker 3: this isn't about Tammy's feelings because if you were concerned
- 18:33Speaker 3: about them you would have apologized to her straight away
- 18:36Speaker 3: instead of liking said videos. And yeah, it just became
- 18:39Speaker 3: clear that Lucy in particular was worried about how she
- 18:42Speaker 3: was coming across in the videos.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I mean, she posted that she missed her flight.
- 18:47Speaker 3: In Adelaide and, you know, I feel like there was
- 18:50Speaker 3: a bit of Sunday scaries going on and she was
- 18:52Speaker 3: a bit concerned.
- 18:53Speaker 1: About what she said on stage. I mean, I feel
- 18:55Speaker 1: for her, that would be a horrible feeling to have.
- 18:57Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, if you're happy
- 18:59Speaker 3: to say those things live on stage in front of
- 19:01Speaker 3: thousands of people, you should be able to put your
- 19:03Speaker 3: hand up and say, yes, that's what I said.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And I feel comfortable saying that.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's apparent that she's not happy about the situation.
- 19:09Speaker 1: As you mentioned, she has blocked not only Outspoken's Instagram account,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but our personal ones after we called out the dog post.
- 19:17Speaker 1: And it seems like they were in damage control on
- 19:20Speaker 1: their own socials. They were deleting a lot of comments
- 19:22Speaker 1: that were questioning their behavior. Members of their traveling live
- 19:27Speaker 1: show also started coming over to our page, commenting negative stuff.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So Lucy's former roommate, George, left comments on our post
- 19:35Speaker 1: saying perhaps we should have drunk and had a bit
- 19:37Speaker 1: of fun at the event, which really frustrated me because
- 19:41Speaker 1: I am so sick of this rhetoric that if you're
- 19:43Speaker 1: not drinking, you're not having a good time. Firstly, we
- 19:47Speaker 1: actually don't drink. Secondly, we were working at the show.
- 19:50Speaker 1: It was our job to interview Lucy and Nikki live
- 19:52Speaker 1: on stage. Personally, I don't like to drink or be
- 19:54Speaker 1: drunk when I'm appearing on stage.
- 19:56Speaker 3: It also annoys me because I personally had a great
- 19:58Speaker 3: time chatting to a lot of the crew. We spoke
- 20:01Speaker 3: to some of the dancers. There was you know, one
- 20:03Speaker 3: of the crew members' wife's backstage who had a young child,
- 20:07Speaker 3: like we were talking to lots of people backstage. A
- 20:10Speaker 3: lot of the, I suppose, bigger name people were in
- 20:13Speaker 3: separate private areas. So we didn't get the opportunity to
- 20:16Speaker 3: speak to them because we weren't ever introduced to them.
- 20:19Speaker 1: So that's also quite difficult.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Now, a lot of people are also wondering whether Lucy
- 20:24Speaker 3: or Nikki have since reached out following that, you know,
- 20:28Speaker 3: defacing of our picture. We haven't heard anything from them. So-
- 20:32Speaker 3: I think that maybe in five days we might though.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Look, I don't think we'll be hearing from them.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Judging by the comments that their friends were posting on
- 20:39Speaker 1: our post, I'm guessing they're not really remorseful about the situation.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I mean, we had their makeup.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Artist on there telling us that we were chasing clout. Again,
- 20:47Speaker 1: another ridiculous comment. Not to toot our own horn, our
- 20:50Speaker 1: podcast has hit 20 million downloads. We're not looking for clout.
- 20:53Speaker 1: We were just looking for some respect. So I got
- 20:57Speaker 1: knocked up, which actually is really lovely for me. However,
- 21:00Speaker 1: turns out, not so good for my wife.
- 21:02Speaker 3: British entrepreneur and podcaster Grace Beverley has given birth to
- 21:06Speaker 3: a baby girl called Cecilia. In what Grace described as
- 21:10Speaker 3: the ultimate Virgo behaviour, she said her daughter was born
- 21:13Speaker 3: on the 1st of September at midnight through an emergency C-section.
- 21:17Speaker 3: That is such a unique name. I haven't heard anyone
- 21:20Speaker 3: using that for ages. I mean, I reckon it's got
- 21:22Speaker 3: old money vibes.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, and she has the nicest accent. So I
- 21:26Speaker 1: could just imagine her saying it is a lot nicer
- 21:29Speaker 1: than us saying Cecilia. She'd be like, Cecilia.
- 21:32Speaker 3: This is really embarrassing to admit, but whenever I listen
- 21:34Speaker 3: to her podcast, for some reason, if I'm in the
- 21:36Speaker 3: car by myself, I catch myself trying to imitate her voice.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Like, do you ever do that?
- 21:40Speaker 2: Oh my God, I have.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Yes. And I'm like, what the fuck's wrong with me?
- 21:44Speaker 1: And sometimes I'm like, oh, I actually reckon I've got it,
- 21:46Speaker 1: but go on, do it. I'm not doing it. I'm
- 21:49Speaker 1: not doing it. I need to do that in the
- 21:51Speaker 1: privacy of my own car. I need to hear her
- 21:53Speaker 1: first in order to... Yeah, yeah. That's what I was
- 21:55Speaker 1: going to say. I actually can't get it in my
- 21:56Speaker 1: head at the moment. But do you know what? I
- 21:57Speaker 1: listened to an interview that she did with Kayla Edsenis
- 22:00Speaker 1: and it was The juxtaposition of her accent with Kayla's,
- 22:04Speaker 1: which made it sound even more English. Well, that's the thing.
- 22:08Speaker 3: At the start of the year, she was on a
- 22:09Speaker 3: bit of a podcast tour around Australia and she interviewed
- 22:13Speaker 3: Shameless and Sarah's Day.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And she has a couple of Aussie friends here.
- 22:17Speaker 3: And because she had a C-section at midnight, she actually
- 22:21Speaker 3: started just FaceTiming her Aussie friends to show them, like
- 22:25Speaker 3: to tell them the news. And it was actually pretty gross.
- 22:27Speaker 3: I don't know how I feel about this on FaceTime.
- 22:29Speaker 3: She showed them a close-up of the placenta.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Wow.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Wait, who?
- 22:32Speaker 1: That's how fresh.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Some Aussie friends, some random. She shared an Instagram story
- 22:37Speaker 3: being like, oh, look, this is what I was showing.
- 22:39Speaker 1: My Aussie friends. Oh, my God. I mean, I think
- 22:41Speaker 1: she'd birthed it. Well, she obviously was out of her.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I don't know if she was birthing it or if
- 22:46Speaker 1: it was just fresh out. I don't know what was
- 22:48Speaker 1: going on.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Do you know what?
- 22:49Speaker 1: After you give birth, it's such a weird feeling. Like, obviously,
- 22:53Speaker 1: everyone comes in and visits you. But once all the
- 22:55Speaker 1: visitors have gone, you're like, what the hell am I
- 22:57Speaker 1: meant to do? I'm absolutely amped up on drugs. I
- 23:00Speaker 1: can kind of see why she'd be like, fuck it,
- 23:01Speaker 1: I'm just going to start ringing everyone. And maybe she
- 23:04Speaker 1: was so out of it, that's why she was showing
- 23:06Speaker 1: everyone the placenta.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Well, gross story about my placenta. I remember being- No,
- 23:09Speaker 3: no one wants to hear this. No, I have to
- 23:11Speaker 3: tell this story because I think.
- 23:13Speaker 1: It's pretty funny.
- 23:14Speaker 3: So I was wheeled into recovery and, you know, you're
- 23:17Speaker 3: on a high, you're meeting your baby for the first time.
- 23:20Speaker 3: And I remember you guys talking about how epic it
- 23:22Speaker 3: was to have like a sandwich or something to eat.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Like you said, it was the best cheese and crackers
- 23:26Speaker 1: of your life. And I was like, oh yeah, what
- 23:27Speaker 1: would you like? And I was explaining what I wanted.
- 23:30Speaker 3: And then I clocked that the midwife had left a
- 23:33Speaker 3: huge plastic bag, clear plastic bag, just with my placenta
- 23:37Speaker 3: in it right next to me.
- 23:39Speaker 1: And I was like, what the fuck? And I said,
- 23:42Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. Could you get rid of that? And
- 23:44Speaker 1: they're like, oh, sorry, probably shouldn't have left it there.
- 23:45Speaker 3: It's like, are you just like leaving that around willy-nilly?
- 23:48Speaker 1: What is going on? Also– placentas are hot property. Like
- 23:54Speaker 1: you can make a lot of money from taking them
- 23:56Speaker 1: home with me. Well, actually, anyway, I think, I think
- 23:59Speaker 1: they actually, well, I never remember being asked, but you
- 24:02Speaker 1: actually can. They keep it on ice for a day
- 24:04Speaker 1: or something. I said destroy mine, I think. Anyway, let's
- 24:06Speaker 1: get off the topic of placentas. Now, Grace was understandably
- 24:09Speaker 1: very relieved after the birth because in November last year,
- 24:13Speaker 1: just a couple of months after getting married, she and
- 24:16Speaker 1: her husband announced that they had had a miscarriage and
- 24:19Speaker 1: She spoke so openly across her Instagram about what she
- 24:22Speaker 1: was going through to break down any stigmas associated with it. Now,
- 24:26Speaker 1: after her daughter's arrival, she wrote on Instagram, thank you
- 24:29Speaker 1: so much for all of your well wishes. I can't
- 24:31Speaker 1: believe after nine months of constant intrusive thoughts and being
- 24:35Speaker 1: so convinced something would go wrong. that she is here
- 24:38Speaker 1: and delivery was all healthy. A little rainbow baby.
- 24:41Speaker 3: We ended up having an emergency C-section and I went
- 24:44Speaker 3: into it so disassociated and terrified. I literally don't think
- 24:48Speaker 3: I would have believed she was ours if I didn't
- 24:50Speaker 3: see her come out of me.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Can't believe we get our own baby. We are so
- 24:55Speaker 1: in love. That is so lovely for Grace. And I
- 24:57Speaker 1: remember hearing her talk on her podcast about just how
- 25:01Speaker 1: worried she was. And then That is so understandable.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I think so many women could relate to that feeling
- 25:07Speaker 3: of not feeling like you can even celebrate that you
- 25:10Speaker 3: are having a baby until that baby is safe and
- 25:13Speaker 3: in your arms. I'm so happy for her and I'm
- 25:15Speaker 3: really interested in following her motherhood journey, particularly how she
- 25:19Speaker 3: balances her business with having a baby. I have to
- 25:23Speaker 3: say I always love seeing a mother's afterbirth meal and
- 25:26Speaker 3: she shared that she had sushi from Nobu delivered.
- 25:30Speaker 1: To the hospital. I think that is top notch.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Nubu.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Did I say Nubu? No. Nobu, sorry.
- 25:34Speaker 2: You just said it weird.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I don't think you said Nubu, but you didn't say Nobu.
- 25:39Speaker 1: From Nobu. Oh, fuck, no, I can't say it properly.
- 25:41Speaker 1: On that note, I think that is all we have
- 25:43Speaker 1: time for today. Thank you so much for joining us
- 25:46Speaker 1: for this podcast.
- 25:47Speaker 3: If you have enjoyed it, could you please make sure
- 25:49Speaker 3: you are subscribed on Apple Podcast and also Spotify. And
- 25:52Speaker 3: we want to say a big thank you to all
- 25:53Speaker 3: of our new subscribers. We did have an influx of
- 25:56Speaker 3: new subscribers after all of the drama last week, so
- 25:58Speaker 3: we really appreciate the support. This episode was recorded on
- 26:02Speaker 3: the traditional land of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains.
- 26:05Speaker 3: We pay respect to elders past and present.
