- 0:24Speaker 1: The Punishment of Loki. When Loki was driven out by
- 0:29Speaker 1: the mighty Thaw from Edga's palace hall, he knew that
- 0:34Speaker 1: he could never again be allowed to come among the
- 0:38Speaker 1: gods in Asgard. Many times had this mischievous fire god
- 0:44Speaker 1: brought trouble and sorrow to the Asia. But now he
- 0:49Speaker 1: had done the most cruel deed of all. He had slain,
- 0:53Speaker 1: bordered the good, and had driven all light and joy
- 0:57Speaker 1: from Asgard far away. He fled among the mountains, hoping
- 1:04Speaker 1: that no one would find him there, and near a
- 1:08Speaker 1: lovely mountain stream, he built for himself a hut with
- 1:12Speaker 1: four doors, looking north, east, south, and west, so that
- 1:19Speaker 1: if the wise old Father, on his high air throne
- 1:23Speaker 1: in Asgards should see him and send messengers to punish him,
- 1:28Speaker 1: the watchful Loki could see them coming and escape by
- 1:32Speaker 1: the opposite door. He spent most of the days and
- 1:36Speaker 1: nice thinking how he could get away from the asher
- 1:42Speaker 1: if I ran to the stream and turned myself into
- 1:45Speaker 1: a fish. He thought, I wonder if they could catch me,
- 1:51Speaker 1: I could keep out of the way of a hawk.
- 1:54Speaker 1: But then they are nets. Edge's wife has a wonderful
- 1:59Speaker 1: think like a net for catching fish, and that would
- 2:03Speaker 1: be far worse than a hook. When Loki thought of
- 2:08Speaker 1: the net, he began to wonder how it was made,
- 2:13Speaker 1: and the more he thought, the more he wished he
- 2:17Speaker 1: could make one, so as to see how a fish
- 2:20Speaker 1: could keep from getting caught in it. He sat down
- 2:24Speaker 1: by the fire in his little hut, took a piece
- 2:27Speaker 1: of cord, and began to make a fish net. He
- 2:31Speaker 1: had nearly finished it when looking up through the open door,
- 2:37Speaker 1: he saw three of the asher in the distance coming
- 2:42Speaker 1: towards his hut. Loki well knew that they were coming
- 2:47Speaker 1: to catch him, and quickly throwing his net into the fire,
- 2:52Speaker 1: he ran to the stream, changed himself into a beautiful
- 2:56Speaker 1: spotted salmon, and leaped into the water. A moment later,
- 3:02Speaker 1: the three gods entered the hut, and one of them
- 3:06Speaker 1: spied the fish net burning in the fire. See cried
- 3:12Speaker 1: he Loki must have been making this net to catch fish.
- 3:18Speaker 1: He always was a good fisherman, and now this is
- 3:22Speaker 1: just what we want for catching him. So they snatched
- 3:26Speaker 1: the last bit of the net from the fire, and
- 3:30Speaker 1: by looking at it, find out how to make another,
- 3:34Speaker 1: which they took with them to the bank of the stream.
- 3:38Speaker 1: The first time the net was put into the water,
- 3:41Speaker 1: Loki hid between two rocks, and the net was so
- 3:45Speaker 1: light that it float past him. But the next time
- 3:50Speaker 1: he had a heavy stone weight, which made it sink
- 3:54Speaker 1: down till Loki saw he could not get away unless
- 3:59Speaker 1: he could over the net. He did this. A Thor,
- 4:04Speaker 1: seeing him, waded out into the stream, where he threw
- 4:09Speaker 1: the net again, so that Loki must jump a second time,
- 4:13Speaker 1: or else go on out into the deep sea. As
- 4:17Speaker 1: he leaped, thought stooped and caught him in his hand,
- 4:22Speaker 1: But the fish was so slippery that Thor could hardly
- 4:26Speaker 1: hold it. In the struggle, the salmon's tail was pinched
- 4:31Speaker 1: so tightly by the thunder God's strong fingers that it
- 4:35Speaker 1: was drawn out to a point, and the old story
- 4:40Speaker 1: say that is why Simon's tails are so pointed. Ever since,
- 4:46Speaker 1: thus was Loki caught in his own trap, and dreadful
- 4:51Speaker 1: was his punishment, the Asia changed him to a high
- 4:55Speaker 1: rock and placed a great poisonous serpent had over the
- 5:00Speaker 1: cliff above his head. If it had not been for
- 5:04Speaker 1: Loki's good faithful wife, he would have died of the
- 5:09Speaker 1: poison that dropped from the snake's mouth. She watched by
- 5:13Speaker 1: her husband holding a cup above him to catch the poison.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Only when she had to turn aside to empty the
- 5:22Speaker 1: cup did the drops fall upon Loki. Then they gave
- 5:28Speaker 1: him such terrible pain that he shook the earth with
- 5:32Speaker 1: his struggles, and the people in Mega fled from the
- 5:37Speaker 1: dreadful earthquake. In Iceland, the Great Geezer's spring of hot
- 5:43Speaker 1: water burst through the earth, and in the Southlands, burning
- 5:49Speaker 1: ashes and lava poured down the mountainsides. There Chained to
- 5:56Speaker 1: the cliff, the crew mischievous Loki was still lie until
- 6:00Speaker 1: the twidlight of the gods, the dark day of right
- 6:04Speaker 1: and work? Where are the mighty evil monsters and pieces?
- 6:09Speaker 1: We get free? And the terrible battle be fought between
- 6:13Speaker 1: them and the gods of Asgard end of chapter thirteen.
