- 0:00SPEAKER_04: Uh, some good news, gentlemen.
- 0:01SPEAKER_04: We have quite a treat for you.
- 0:03SPEAKER_04: We've been able to coax superstar James Taylor in here to Mr.
- 0:06SPEAKER_04: Control wish you well and play you a little of his own brand to laid back adult contemporary music.
- 0:11SPEAKER_04: Well, former President James Taylor, this is a treat.
- 0:15SPEAKER_04: How you doing, fellas?
- 0:17SPEAKER_04: With all due respect, Mr.
- 0:18SPEAKER_04: Taylor, this isn't the best time for your unique brand of bittersweet folk rock.
- 0:23SPEAKER_04: We have a potentially critical situation here.
- 0:26SPEAKER_04: I'm sure you'll understand.
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: Listen, Alvin, I'm not as laid back as people think.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Now here's the deal.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna play, and you're gonna float there and like hey, it's cousin Larry.
- 0:37SPEAKER_06: Welcome to the Old Brian and Doug podcast, brought to you in part by emoji multimedia.com.
- 0:45SPEAKER_06: Oh no, what's the old guy?

- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 1:06SPEAKER_08: Ray.
- 1:07SPEAKER_09: He's looking at me, Ray.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: I don't think he wanted.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: I think he can hear you, Ray.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: I think he can hear you right.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's my my favorite.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Uh it's like um you can listen to Mr.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Pecker here.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: No, Mr.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Dicklas.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, to Dicklas.
- 1:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:36SPEAKER_09: Is this true?
- 1:37SPEAKER_09: Yes, this is true.
- 1:38SPEAKER_09: This man has no ghost.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: We're talking Ghostbusters, of course.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Classic.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Because we're, you know.
- 1:46SPEAKER_08: Because we're Gen X.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:48SPEAKER_08: The best generation.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: You were just you were just singing for what reason?
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Well, you were saying rolling on the rolling and you started doing Limb Biscuit.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Did you see Stuart Copeland on Drummeo?
- 2:00SPEAKER_08: Oh, he was doing uh Limbiscuit.
- 2:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 2:02SPEAKER_09: And he'd never heard the song before.
- 2:04SPEAKER_09: It sounded pretty good.
- 2:06SPEAKER_08: Well, it's Stuart Copeland.
- 2:08SPEAKER_08: I mean, the dude can play anything.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: If you don't know what we're talking about, drummeo is, I guess, an organization.
- 2:13SPEAKER_08: It's a it's a it's a Well they do like drum lessons and stuff like that.
- 2:17SPEAKER_08: It's basically a website for drummers.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Right, but it's also the I mean they have a big social media following.
- 2:21SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: And so they get they get these um uh big time drummers, and sometimes not so big time drummers, but but well-known yeah uh drummers, and they get him in the studio and they try to play them music that they've never heard so that they can play along with them the drums.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: So they hear the music without the drums.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And, you know, like um like um Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers, they played him uh it was a modern rock band.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: I can't remember the name of the band.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I don't remember either.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: But he had never heard the song before.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: And and he went into it and just without a no pun intended, without a beat.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, with or with every beat.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, he just killed it.
- 3:04SPEAKER_07: No, I'm not I'm not sure I'm not surprised.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: And of course Stuart Copeland did too.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Um but he had never heard the song Rollin' by Limp Biscuit.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: And yeah.
- 3:14SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean, I I like I like watching those reaction videos to people who've supposedly never heard all these Yeah, do you believe them all?
- 3:22SPEAKER_08: Some I do.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:24SPEAKER_08: A lot of them just like I I don't know how you've never heard that song.
- 3:28SPEAKER_08: Uh like people react to Bohemian Rhapsody.
- 3:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you've never heard how how have you never heard Bohemian Rhapsody?
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Right, exactly.
- 3:35SPEAKER_08: How big is the rock you've been living under?
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 3:38SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 3:38SPEAKER_08: But there are there are people like like uh like obscure artists that I I understand there's people that have never heard a rush song.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: Sure.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: Or heard a Tool song, which are my favorite ones.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:51SPEAKER_08: Because I love watching the first time somebody listens to Tool and they're just like, What am I listening to?
- 3:57SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 3:58SPEAKER_08: I I actually saw a reaction video they were doing Raining Blood by Slayer.
- 4:04SPEAKER_08: And everybody's just like just dumbfounded.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: So is it a video?
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: They're watching a video?
- 4:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah, they're watching while they're listening to the song and you know, videoing themselves reacting to it.
- 4:12SPEAKER_08: Right, right.
- 4:13SPEAKER_08: The song ends.
- 4:14SPEAKER_08: One dude, he starts rummag rummaging around his desk, he pulls out a Bible and starts holding it in front of him.
- 4:22SPEAKER_08: He's like, he starts making the sign of the cross.
- 4:26SPEAKER_09: Maybe my funniest reaction I've seen.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Um I watched the uh no surprise.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: I watched like um people's first reaction to seeing Eddie Van Halen's guitar solo from Live Without a Net or something, you know.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: And uh just like they're completely blown away, you know.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: But to me, it's like you've never s never seen Eddie Van Halen.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: How have you never seen that?
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Or heard of Eddie Van Halen.
- 4:49SPEAKER_08: I mean, I I kinda get it.
- 4:50SPEAKER_08: I mean, you you live in a not you don't necessarily live in a bubble, but you like what you like.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:55SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: I was thinking about this today, and I think I've said this before, um, because you were talking about word Gen Xers, right?
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: So we are the only generation that w it was here before the internet and after the internet.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Before cell phones and after cell phones.
- 5:17SPEAKER_08: Well, technically boomers are too, but Well, but I mean But they haven't embraced it as much as But we were here when it started.
- 5:24SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Of course, I guess.
- 5:26SPEAKER_08: Well, we know life before and after.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean.
- 5:28SPEAKER_08: And like millennials don't know there was a world before the internet.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:33SPEAKER_08: You know, and beyond.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: And there was something there was something I can't remember what it was, but there was there was my daughter said something uh today, and I was like, yeah, I guess uh because she said something like you're old or or whatever.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Um but see, I bring this up and I can't remember what she was talking about.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: But it's because you're old.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Right, exactly.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: But it was it was something like, yeah, you know, I w we were there for that.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean it was um it's quite amazing to think about.
- 6:04SPEAKER_08: Well, I still remember when CDs were a big thing.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_08: I remember getting my first CD.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: I was like, wow.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:12SPEAKER_08: I still remember the the big plastic cage that CDs and tapes came in.
- 6:17SPEAKER_08: Remember that?
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 6:18SPEAKER_08: Well, cause yeah, tapes, because I was just thinking as soon as you said that, I remember when they had to have a special tool to open up the thing and take the tape out, and then you know, you were like, Well, you know, it was like an hour later.
- 6:30SPEAKER_08: You're like, man, I I don't even want to listen to it anymore.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: I remember distinctly one Christmas I was living on Fourth Street in Mars Hill.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Remember when I lived in Fourth Street?
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Right across my grandmother's.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, exactly.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: And I I got a cassette tape for for Christmas, and it was Brian Adams cuts like a knife.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Nice on cassette.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Was it cuts like a knife?
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, cuts like a knife.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Sounds about right.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: And uh uh, you know, I had to get scissors and everything to cut because I don't, you know.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: But yeah, CDs.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: When CDs came, what was that meme?
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Well we're the only generation that uh the reason we're we're ticked off is because Well we had everything on vinyl, yeah, and then tape, and then we had to switch to C D and now we're going back to vinyl because we got rid of all their tapes.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: And not only that, but we pay for a streaming service.
- 7:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:15SPEAKER_08: We got screwed all over the place when we came to music.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: We did, yeah.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: So uh yeah, but no, uh Gen X uh uh unique generation, I think.
- 7:26SPEAKER_08: Well, we were the last feral generation.
- 7:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:29SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 7:29SPEAKER_08: When you think about it.
- 7:31SPEAKER_08: I mean, remember when we were kids, you know, if the weather was nice, your butt was outside.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 7:38unknown: No.
- 7:39SPEAKER_08: Especially in the summertime, you were not allowed back in until it got dark.
- 7:42SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 7:43SPEAKER_08: And even then it had to be, you know, if it stormed, yeah, maybe they let you back in.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:48SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 7:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:49SPEAKER_08: You just go in for a sandwich.
- 7:51unknown: Yep.
- 7:51SPEAKER_08: And then you were back outside.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: I was telling uh my my my daughter.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: I don't been been bonding with my ten-year-old lately.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: But uh Yeah, she's only your daughter, actually.
- 8:02SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: But I mean she's been she's been asking questions and stuff like that, and I I can't remember uh why it came.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, because she had friends with her in the car and um they were talking about how they um somebody was shooting something with with a pellet with a pellet.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: And you know, do pellets hurt.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: With a pellet?
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: I said, well, pellets can hurt, yeah.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: I said, I've been shot before.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: You've been shot with a pellet?
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: I said, You've been shot with babies.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well that too.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Um and uh I said, you know, I got I remember that uh my friend Bob shot me in the toe.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, and so she's like, He did?
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: I said, Yeah, well, it was an accident.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: But now, to this day, I can just say to Bob, I can say, I'm really hungry.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: My toe or my toe hurts, and he knows to give me food.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Because that's just like the code.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Because he felt so bad uh about shooting me in the in the toe that he kept giving me food.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: He's like, Wow, okay, you okay?
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:58SPEAKER_08: Well, I don't know if this was revenge or not, but that scar above his eye, I gave him that.
- 9:03SPEAKER_08: Did you?
- 9:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah, because we were playing hockey on my lawn one winter and it was it was like it rained and then it re froze.
- 9:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_08: So we were playing hockey and I checked him and he fell face first on the ice and cut his eye open.
- 9:15SPEAKER_08: Oh, it's so so that I think it's above his, I want to say it's above his left eye.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:20SPEAKER_08: There's a na there's a pretty gnarly scar.
- 9:22SPEAKER_08: I gave him that.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: So Um I not not that we're we were planning on doing this, but our friend Bob, whose real name is Christopher Lawrence.
- 9:30SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Um he's on Facebook, and I hope I hope he does something soon like get something to do with the stuff.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: He used to put together a book or a website or something, because he has of course he was always an artist.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: You know, I think he went eye.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: He went to college for art, actually.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Uh Castleton State in Vermont.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: And so he's a photographer by trade.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Um, so he has a great eye, but he's also uh he's back to painting.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: He used to paint a lot when we were little.
- 9:59SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: And was he was pretty good.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: You know, he's got an amazing eye.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Well, he's gotten back to it.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: He's kind of taken off off the you know, um, the critic off his shoulder and is is kind of being bold in his words, yeah.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Being a little bolder and um showing his paint he's been painting a lot.
- 10:20SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Um and posting them on Facebook.
- 10:24SPEAKER_08: And my word.
- 10:26SPEAKER_08: Some sometimes it's hard to tell if it's a photo or if it's a painting.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: It's so yeah.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: And sometimes it is a photo.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, because he did he post his photography on there too.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: But man, oh man, I'm so glad that he's back to painting.
- 10:37SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_08: Um and uh as a talent he shouldn't have wasted.
- 10:40SPEAKER_08: You know, shouldn't I?
- 10:42SPEAKER_08: He should share it with everybody.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Well, it's better late than never, you know.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: That's what I say.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: And so I just hope he yeah, I hope he gets like a a web.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he's planning on I don't know if he wants to sell them or I don't know what he wants to do.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: I know he's just doing it to kind of release stress and get back to it, you know, because he loved doing it.
- 10:57SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Um but boy, if he had like a website or something like that, he'd he'd sell them.
- 11:01SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: You know, he would heck yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: So talented.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Uh look him up on Facebook, I guess.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: No, I don't know if you can see his stuff if you're not his friend.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: I doubt it, but probably not.
- 11:12SPEAKER_08: No, no, you should friend him anyway.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Just flood Bob with Yeah, just tell him Bob and uh O'Brien and Doug sent you.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Hate those guys.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Um what else?
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: What else is going on?
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: We already talked about our New Year's Eve show.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Cold.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: We got Yeah, it was cold.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: We got a bunch of uh dates coming up.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Um acoustic duo.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: I have a date?
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Acoustic duo date.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Who is it?
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: It's me.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Layler.
- 11:40SPEAKER_08: Now my life sucks.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so um notice how I went right past that.
- 11:48SPEAKER_09: My life sucks.
- 11:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 11:49SPEAKER_09: So um tell us more about your life sucking, Doug.
- 11:52SPEAKER_09: Hey, hey, anyway.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: We got some acoustic dates, so we're gonna be playing at the Maple Big uh several times.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: And at Big Rock, Big Rock, too.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Mountain.
- 12:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah, uh several times if the snow doesn't melt.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Right, it's true.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: And um we have got some dates at the lounge coming up as well, and the and um the lounge down under, down the down under sports pump in uh Yeah, we're we're gonna be all over the place.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: We're gonna be all over the place.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: We should learn some new songs.
- 12:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah, we keep saying that.
- 12:18SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: We're just gonna keep saying it.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: This is really the only time we get together.
- 12:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:22SPEAKER_08: So well, I mean, we'll just play them when we get there.
- 12:25SPEAKER_08: Like somebody requests a song, we're like, oh, we should put that in the set list.
- 12:29SPEAKER_08: And then the next gig we're like, what was that song we did last time?
- 12:32SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 12:33SPEAKER_09: We never put it in the set list.
- 12:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Uh I heard one uh so so I had my first modern band uh today.
- 12:39SPEAKER_09: Ah, how'd that go?
- 12:41SPEAKER_09: Well, it's kind of a joke.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I had three girls.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Just three girls.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: That's it?
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: That's all that showed up.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: They're all three in my chorus.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Um and I mean we you know, we went through the everything that I planned on going through and they uh played drums and we we jammed a little bit, and that's really all it's gonna be for a while.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Is just kind of showing up and playing an instrument and jamming.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: I'm teaching them how to play the instrument.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, sure.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh the one girl who is a singer and musician um wants to be uh uh like a Nashville, um she said, Oh, we should do this song.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Oh, I want Doug and I should do this song.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: This would be kind of fun.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: Um uh take it on the run.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Are you Speedwagon?
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, that would be a good one.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Heard it from a friend.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: We could probably do that, right?
- 13:36SPEAKER_08: We could do that, yeah.
- 13:36SPEAKER_08: You can make that a take it on the run, baby.
- 13:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: You'd have to sing the root and I would harmonize or something like that.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we could do that.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: I remember uh when I was in college that we so I was staying, I I went to college at Hussan University and I stayed on a f uh fraternity floor.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Wasn't in the fraternity, but that's where I was housed.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: It was fun.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Um so but it was it was a male floor and then a female floor and then a male floor and then a female floor, right?
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: And so the ladies that that had the room right below us, uh any given Saturday or any actually any chance they could, they put their speakers out the window and crank that song to take it on the run.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know I don't know why, but they would they would change the word messing to effing.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Heard it from another Ubuntu around, right?
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: And they would sing it at the top of their lungs.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: And it became like a thing.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Uh I think they then even after a while they started to do it just because they thought it made us mad.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: You know, but it didn't make us mad.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I'm telling you that story.
- 14:47SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean it's just it the only reason R you Rio Speedwagon didn't do it themselves because you know that's what they meant.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, of course.
- 14:56SPEAKER_08: You know, yeah.
- 14:57SPEAKER_08: They're just trying to, you know, trying to get radio play.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:00SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 15:00SPEAKER_08: So I totally get it.
- 15:02SPEAKER_08: And Rio Speedwagon broke up.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Did you see that?
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: That's just kind of unceremonious.
- 15:07SPEAKER_08: Well, you know, they've been together for a while.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: I know, but it was the way it's messy.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: It was the it was the way that it was done that wasn't uh that wasn't cool.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: I suppose there's no good way to do it really.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Not really.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: You know, but uh anyway.
- 15:19SPEAKER_08: Well, other than everybody dying at the same time.
- 15:23SPEAKER_08: That would be like that that would be like the ultimate worst.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:27SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 15:28SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 15:28SPEAKER_08: And then the second worst would be like one person dying, and the rest of them are just like, we don't want to do this anymore.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Which has happened.
- 15:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:38SPEAKER_08: Well, that was Rush.
- 15:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 15:40SPEAKER_08: Uh and then the next worst would be they just like have this you know, a show and a big brawl breaks out in the middle, aka Perry Ferrell.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Well, also another bad way to do it is to do a show, like just a regular show, and then say, I don't want to do this anymore.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: And then just stop.
- 16:05SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: You know, because that's kind of a a slight to the fans, I think.
- 16:09SPEAKER_08: You know, that especially if you don't tell anybody, right?
- 16:12SPEAKER_08: Like the rest of the band.
- 16:14SPEAKER_08: You know, that would that would really suck.
- 16:16SPEAKER_08: They'd be like, ah, that was a good gig.
- 16:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 16:18SPEAKER_08: Too bad it's our last one.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: What?
- 16:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I'm quitting.
- 16:22SPEAKER_08: What?
- 16:24SPEAKER_08: What happened?
- 16:24SPEAKER_08: Where am I?
- 16:26SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: So I get it.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Alright, so let's do this.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: I have What are we doing?
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: It's from the ultimate classicrock.com.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: I have another list for you.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Hit me! Now, this one I don't know.
- 16:41SPEAKER_08: Hit me, baby, baby.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: I I I don't this list combines two kind of uh genres that are very similar, but uh like these bands I wouldn't put them on the same list.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: I don't know, and you maybe you'll see what I mean.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: This is the top twenty hard rock and metal albums of 1985.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: 85 was a good year for music.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Not just for hard rock, but yeah, but music in general.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, music in general.
- 17:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Um Thrash, Glam, and Synths Collide in a groundbreaking year.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Number 20, Faith No More.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: We care a lot.
- 17:18SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's a great song.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Isn't it?
- 17:20SPEAKER_08: I love that song a lot.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Um it was their debut album.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: We care a lot.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Blend of Funk, Punk, and Metal sounded fine-tuned, equally catchy and weird, with a bona fide classic in its title track.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I I guess I didn't realize that was their debut album.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Uh Epic, uh, what was the one with Epic on it?
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Epic Um I can't remember the name of the album.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: I don't remember either, but.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: But that was that was broke them through.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, that was huge.
- 17:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, everybody knows that song.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:48SPEAKER_08: But this that that song, I'm I'm surprised they don't have a link to play it because it's a friggin' amazing song.
- 17:54SPEAKER_09: I can find it.
- 17:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:54SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 17:55SPEAKER_09: Let's see.
- 17:56SPEAKER_08: Um I think it should I because I I I guarantee a lot of people haven't heard this song.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: I haven't heard this song.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, you never heard of this song?
- 18:03SPEAKER_08: Oh, it's great, man.
- 18:04SPEAKER_08: It's a great song.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Maybe I have.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Um, I like most people, I got uh into Faith No More after that the album.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: When you go the album with Epic on it, actually.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: So I wasn't there I wasn't there before.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: This isn't Mike Patton.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I think it's Mike Batten.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: No, according to this.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Um, the atmospheric keyboards, monsters, guitars, chumpy grooves were already evident on the band's debut album.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Uh, missing piece Mike Patton had not yet entered the fold.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: This is Chuck Mosley.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: So you learn something new on this podcast all the time.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I had never heard that song.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: That's pretty cool.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Uh so that's number 20 uh on the top 20 hard rock and metal albums of 1985.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Overkill.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Feel the fire.
- 20:19SPEAKER_08: Wow, that's a big jump.
- 20:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah, right?
- 20:22SPEAKER_09: From Faith No More to Overkill?
- 20:24SPEAKER_09: This is what I'm talking about.
- 20:25SPEAKER_08: It's crazy, man.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Feel the fire.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is number 19.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, as the Bay Area thrash scene exploded, another strain took hold in the New York Tri-State area.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Um, New Jersey is where these guys hail from.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Uh Overkills Feel the Fire had streetwise aggression that set them apart from their peers.
- 20:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, if you look really close at that picture, you can see a drone.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Um I there's the Jersey Devil.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: I have never heard this album.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Rotten to the Core, Hammerhead.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Um I'm not going to either.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Corrosion of Conformity.
- 20:58SPEAKER_08: Wow, I didn't realize they were that old.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Number 18.
- 21:01SPEAKER_08: That's like old, old corrosion of conformity.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: The album is Animosity.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Um there it's a sophomore album.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: So it beefs up production and tightens the focus of their 1984 debut, Eye for an Eye.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: I don't know anything about corrosion of conformity.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 21:18SPEAKER_08: They're more like a hard rock metal-you know.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 21:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:22SPEAKER_08: So I was into them briefly in the 90s.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Were you?
- 21:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 21:25SPEAKER_08: Okay, so so just Well, their bass player tried out for Metallica when they were doing I knew that.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I knew that.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, so this is what I'm talking about.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: This list here.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Faith No More, Overkill, Corrosion of Conformity.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Number 18, Night Ranger.
- 21:45SPEAKER_08: Well, we just went from Taylor Swift to Beethoven.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Night Ranger, seven wishes, great album.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Um, one of my favorite Night Ranger albums, actually.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Um was their third album.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Uh Sleep.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Commercial hard rock anthems with chewy pop centers.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: This had four in the morning.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Four songs.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Sentimental Street was on this one.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: There's a song, there's a ballad called Goodbye.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: I was not very much good.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Great album.
- 22:16SPEAKER_09: But but like I I guess it's hard rock.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Out of place.
- 22:23SPEAKER_09: I think it's rock.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:24SPEAKER_09: What does it say?
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Dio, Sacred Heart.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, we're back to metal-ish.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: That's uh number 16.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Uh was this one with uh yep, this is this is Vivian Campbell's last album, right?
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: It was characterized by growing tension between Ronnie James Dio and Vivian Campbell, which would hasten the guitar's departure in the middle of the supporting tour.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: So after this album, um Vivian Campbell left and did some other things and eventually ended up with Def Leopard.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Um so let's see.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Number 15, Twisted Sister.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Come out and play.
- 23:00SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 23:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I don't know.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: What what what goes on?
- 23:05SPEAKER_08: That was probably their second album, wasn't it?
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Uh the Hard Way, Come Out and Play.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: They're drastically underperforming follow-up to the star making Stay Hungry.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: No, it wasn't their second.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: I wasn't I don't think 'cause Stay Hungry wasn't their first album, was it?
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: I don't think it was.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: Sure?
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Nope, I'm not sure.
- 23:19SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: Uh Decades of Hindside, the album still.
- 23:21SPEAKER_08: Because they didn't I don't know.
- 23:22SPEAKER_08: They were trying to think.
- 23:24SPEAKER_08: They came out in the late 70s, early 80s.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:27SPEAKER_08: So maybe the second or third album then.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Um Leader of the Pack.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Remember they did the Shangri Law Song.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: But this so this is after Stay Hungry.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: Well, like I said, we have the technology.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Let's let's look at their discard.
- 23:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, we got multiple monitors going.
- 23:43SPEAKER_08: So we can look up all kinds of stuff.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: I I'm pretty sure that Stay Hungry was their like breakthrough album, but they had albums before that.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Do they list it?
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: I thought they listed it.
- 24:02SPEAKER_08: There must be a distography.
- 24:03SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, right here we go.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so they had two albums before Stay Hungry.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Under the Blade, You Can't Stop Rock and Roll, and then Stay Hungry, and then this one came out in 1930.
- 24:14SPEAKER_08: Okay, so there's a fourth one.
- 24:15SPEAKER_08: Okay, wow.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: So Under the Blade came out in 82.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Their first album.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: That doesn't mean that I mean they've been around since the 70s, of course.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: But their first album came out in 82.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: So anyway, uh that is number 15.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: I don't know, besides the leader of the pack, and they did a Be Cruel to your school song.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: I don't know anything about it.
- 24:34SPEAKER_08: Well, I think that was a uh off the Beach Boys.
- 24:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Wasp.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Number 14.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: The Last Command.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Uh Wild Child, Blinded Texas.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Wild Chad was big for Wasp.
- 24:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I've never been into Wasp.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: No, me either.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Me either.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Not my thing.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: But again, I mean.
- 24:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's it's the the dichotomy of this list is just weird.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: Um Wasp, Overkill, Corrosion of Conformity, Night Ranger.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Night Ranger.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Rush.
- 25:09SPEAKER_09: Rush.
- 25:10SPEAKER_09: Not even hard rock.
- 25:11SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Number 13 is Power Windows.
- 25:15SPEAKER_08: That's a great album.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a great album.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: It says Rush briefly lost the plot on 1984's glossy confused Grace Under Pressure.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: But they redeemed themselves on They redeemed themselves on Power Windows, which more successfully melded their prog rock and new wave sensibilities.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Songs are melodically simple but viscerally impactful with the band's character, characteristically agile rhythm section, and rich shape-shifting guitar work on full display.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: Unless anybody accuse them of ditching their prog bona fides, the woofing slap bass on the big money and choirback Manhattan Project put them in their place.
- 25:46SPEAKER_09: Great album.
- 25:47SPEAKER_09: So again, though, I mean Wasp Rush!
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 25:52SPEAKER_09: And then this all be good.
- 25:54SPEAKER_09: Z top.
- 25:55SPEAKER_09: What?
- 25:56SPEAKER_09: Right?
- 25:57SPEAKER_09: The frig, man.
- 25:58SPEAKER_09: Which one's that?
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: This is Afterburner.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, Afterburner.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: And and if anything, this this is a pop album.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: Pop rock album.
- 26:05SPEAKER_08: Well, they were always just rock, they were just always straight up rock.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Blues.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: Blues rock, yeah.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Blues rock.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: You know, but they this is where they sleeping bag.
- 26:13SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 26:13SPEAKER_08: You know, was uh inside my sleeping bag.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Rough boy.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Great song.
- 26:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was a great song.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Great song.
- 26:20SPEAKER_08: The weird intro, though.
- 26:23SPEAKER_08: It's weird, it's weird like synth drums.
- 26:26SPEAKER_08: Have you heard it?
- 26:27SPEAKER_08: Boom, boom, boom.
- 26:28SPEAKER_08: That one.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, I don't think that's cool as crap.
- 26:33SPEAKER_08: It's just the drums are weird, though.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, that's true.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Well, it's electronic.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's electronic.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, but they were that was back in their synth phase.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: They they left that phase right after that album, I think, didn't they?
- 26:44SPEAKER_08: Well, that wasn't uh Elimination, Eliminator after this one.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: No, Eliminator was before this one.
- 26:49SPEAKER_08: Was it before that one?
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: No, I thought it was after.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Eliminator was first and then Afterburner.
- 26:52SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 26:52SPEAKER_08: Let's uh it's hard to keep track.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Um I just want to check because I know Eliminator was before.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, so Eliminator was their big one with legs, sharp dress man.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Uh that was 1983, and then after burner came out in 85, which was still very synth heavy.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Slip in slab my sleeping bag.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Uh and then they uh in 19, they didn't come out with another album for five years, and it was 1990s Recycler, which was straight up blues.
- 27:30SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, yeah, okay.
- 27:30SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: And then Antenna, Rhythmine, yeah, and then they were they were back to the the dirty blues.
- 27:38SPEAKER_07: Being Z top.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: The cult.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Love.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Um this one has She Cell Sanctuary on it.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Uh that's number 11.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: Uh I could read more into the cult, but I love the cult.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: The cult's great.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: Again, whether they fit in, I guess.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Exodus.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Bonded by blood.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:02SPEAKER_08: Is that supposed to be I think they're supposed to be uh conjoined uh twins?
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it looks like it.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Um I don't know anything about it.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know anything about Exodus.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Wasn't uh Kirk Hammett was in there.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: I was gonna ask, yeah, was Kirk Hammett wasn't Marty Freeman in there too?
- 28:18SPEAKER_08: Marty Freeman?
- 28:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 28:19SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 28:20SPEAKER_08: I don't know, to be honest with you.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Paul, I'll turn the time track and talk about it.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: Has b uh has Bonded by Blood come out in nineteen eighty four instead of being delayed by almost a year, Exodus might have ascended to the same Disney Heights as Metallica or Megadef.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm just curious, because like I said, we have the technology and and why not?
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Let's just look at the lineup of Exodus, because you say it was Kirk Hammett.
- 28:43SPEAKER_08: Pretty sure Kirk Metallica stole him from Exodus.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: I think you're right.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Uh of course I have to type in Exodus Band.
- 28:54SPEAKER_08: Why'd you get the book of Exodus?
- 28:56SPEAKER_08: Yes, I did.
- 28:57SPEAKER_08: I don't pretty sure Moses wasn't in it.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Alright, let's see.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Members.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: Uh past members, show the past members.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Uh Gary Holt, who's now in Slayer, right?
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Uh I think so.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't know the other guys in it, but yes, Kirk Hammett is a past member.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Uh and that's the only one I recognize.
- 29:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was he was playing with Exodus when Metallica stole him.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: Yep, that's the only one that I recognize out of all those names is is Kirk Hammett.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: So I was wrong uh about Marty Friedman.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: Who did Marty Friedman pay play for though?
- 29:32SPEAKER_08: Megadeth.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: Before Megadeth.
- 29:33SPEAKER_08: Well, I don't know.
- 29:34SPEAKER_08: I think he was just like a cowboy.
- 29:36SPEAKER_08: Just playing wherever.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Well, you know what?
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: He was on the uh He was on Rick Beato not too long ago.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Wasn't he um wasn't he like in the Paul Gilbert Racer X type thing?
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Um Oh he's done so much stuff.
- 29:52SPEAKER_08: Where he did put did his own albums uh he had a bunch of like self uh speed metal albums or something like that.
- 29:59SPEAKER_08: Well no, they weren't really speed metal, but they were just like uh they were more like Steve Vyish, uh Joe Satriani type albums.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: Uh yes, that's what I'm thinking of.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: Um Cacophony featured uh it was with uh Jason Becker.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: And he let's see, he released his first solo album, Dragon's Kiss.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, so with Cacophony, that's what that's what I'm thinking of.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: With Jason Becker.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: It was on Shrapnel Records.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: And then of course he was with Megadeth and then Tourniquet, and he's look at the solo uh appearances, man.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's a long story career.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: He's in Japan, right?
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: That's where he lives.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Speaks fluent Japan.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Uh speaks fluent Japan.
- 30:46SPEAKER_08: I speak fluent Japan.
- 30:50SPEAKER_08: Did you hear it?
- 30:52SPEAKER_08: Japan.
- 30:53SPEAKER_08: How I'm so fluent.
- 30:56SPEAKER_08: I can speak Russian too.
- 30:58SPEAKER_08: Russian.
- 31:00SPEAKER_10: I'm fluent in Russian now.
- 31:03SPEAKER_10: Oh my goodness.
- 31:04SPEAKER_08: I can do it with any language.
- 31:05SPEAKER_08: Hey Doug, can you speak Swahili?
- 31:08SPEAKER_08: Swahili.
- 31:10SPEAKER_08: See how fluid I am?
- 31:13SPEAKER_08: I'm amazing.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: Exodus is number 10.
- 31:16SPEAKER_09: I'm a man of mystery.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: Exodus is number 10.
- 31:19SPEAKER_09: But watch this.
- 31:19SPEAKER_09: Okay, where do we go with album?
- 31:21SPEAKER_09: Number nine.
- 31:22SPEAKER_09: Debbie Gibson.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Motley Crue.
- 31:23SPEAKER_08: Okay, well that's that's that's doable.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Theater of pain.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Theater of pain.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Um great album.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Louder than hell, uh use it or lose it.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: Home Sweet Home, of course, the big ball.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: And then we have Rat.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that fits in.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: Um Invasion of Your Privacy.
- 31:40SPEAKER_08: Uh, which is isn't that I think that I think that was Stephen Percy's girlfriend at the time.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: Isn't that Bobby Brown?
- 31:46SPEAKER_08: It might be.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: I think it was.
- 31:48SPEAKER_08: She was like the eight girl for right around that time.
- 31:50SPEAKER_08: She was with Warrant and Warrant and yeah, yeah.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: Uh Great White, she was in the Great White video.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure that's Bobby Brown.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: I bet I bet it is.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: On the cover.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Uh Megadeth.
- 32:02SPEAKER_08: Speaking of Megadeth.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: Killing is my business and business is good.
- 32:06SPEAKER_08: Uh this has the uh you know, the the mechanics, uh the Dave Mustaine version of uh four horsemen, which he called mechanics.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: But uh Well, as I burp into the microphone, let's listen to it.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: There's nothing No, that's not it.
- 32:31SPEAKER_09: Dag nib it.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: It is eerily similar.
- 33:29SPEAKER_08: It's the exact same song.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Lyrics and everything?
- 33:32SPEAKER_08: No.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: No.
- 33:33SPEAKER_08: No.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: But the riff he wrote it.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: The riff is his.
- 33:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah, the riff is his.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_08: Metalca basically.
- 33:39SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean, he was still in Metallica when they wrote it.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: When they wrote it, yeah.
- 33:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_08: So um They just called it four horsemen and slowed it down a bit and you know, he called it mechanics and sped it up.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: So uh so that's number seven, Megadeth, Killing is my business, and business is good.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Number six, anthrax, spreading the disease.
- 33:59SPEAKER_08: Ah, great album.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: Um and again, see, I would I would consider these metal albums.
- 34:04unknown: Right.
- 34:05SPEAKER_08: Well, they're three thrash.
- 34:07SPEAKER_08: Thrash metal.
- 34:08SPEAKER_08: I mean, uh so far we've had, you know, the you know, two of the uh big four of thrash.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: So um and now we're going to have Slayer.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Slayer Hell Awaits.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Speaking of Raining Blood.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Hell awaits.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: Um Rain and Blood came later, right?
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: And Hell Awaits is a s is a is a classic in its own right, paved the way for countless extreme metal bands.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: And as you said, they are one of the big four.
- 34:39SPEAKER_08: One of the big four, yeah.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:41SPEAKER_08: Well, it's Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: So that's number five.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: And then of course ACDC.
- 34:51SPEAKER_08: Why not?
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Why not?
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: But this is hailed as um not a great ACDC album.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Uh Fly on the Wall is number four.
- 35:01SPEAKER_08: Was this Bon Scott or was this uh Brian Johnson?
- 35:04SPEAKER_08: This is Brian Johnson.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Uh it says the conventional these are write-ups, by the way, by ultimate classicrock.com.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: The conventional wisdom that ACDC became bad after for those about to rock, we salute you, does not hold up to scrutiny.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: Actually, listening to the records that followed hits while the bone dry flick of the switch may have left something to be to be desired.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: Fly on the wall is another slab of mighty, sleazy, unrepentant hard rock from the Aussie Brutes.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: They're such good writers.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: There's not much diversity here.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: Why would you want that from ACDC?
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Just plenty of sturdy grooves, fretboard melting solos, and larynx shredding screams.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: Familiar and inviting, like your favorite pair of drainpipe jeans.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: But what album give me a song off that album.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know any songs off that album.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: I bet you if we look.
- 35:52SPEAKER_08: I mean, I I I'm not even sure if we would know any songs off that album.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: I think we might know one or two.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: Um but w we always know them as actually, I don't I don't want oh, there we go.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: Uh Shake Your Foundations.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: Now Shake Your Foundations, excuse me, was on the uh Who Made Who soundtrack.
- 36:14SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: That's how I know that song.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: I didn't know it was on Fly on the Wall.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: Um Sink the Pink, same thing.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Sink the Pink was on the the uh ACDC um Maximum Overdrive soundtrack.
- 36:26SPEAKER_08: So why'd they even make this album if they were just gonna put it on songs on other albums?
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Well, I think they made this album and then nobody listened to it.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: Stephen King uh asked them for their music for a soundtrack.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Maybe he picked up.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, maybe he just couldn't so Sink the Pink I know, Shake Your Foundations I know, uh, and that's it.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: The rest of them, um, Fly on the Wall, First Blood, Danger, Playing with Girls, Stand Up, Hell or High Water, Back in Business, Send for the Man.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: No.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: All I know is Shake Your Foundations and Sink the Pink, and that's because I know it from the maximum overdrive soundtrack.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Who made who?
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: Anyway, uh that's that's number four.
- 37:02SPEAKER_08: Well, of course it is.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: Uh number three is Kiss Asylum.
- 37:07SPEAKER_08: This is not a very good album.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: Um I liked the the one song.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: That of course this has Mark St.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: John on lead guitar.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: This was his like one and only.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Well, this is one and only time being in the band, right?
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, no.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: Bruce Kulik is on this one.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: He took over for Mark St.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: John.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: But Mark St.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: John, I was, I think, was only on one album.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm pretty sure.
- 37:27SPEAKER_08: Pretty sure it was only one.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: Um so Animalize was it in 1984.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: Asylum came out the year after, which maybe that's why it wasn't very good, because they rushed it.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Um Love's a Deadly Weapon, I'm Alive.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: See, I don't know those songs, but Tears Are Fallen.
- 37:43SPEAKER_09: That's the big one that I've fallen.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Number two, Iron Maiden, Live After Death.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Uh it's a live album, of course.
- 37:57SPEAKER_08: Oh, interesting that a live album made this.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: Well, he actually they actually say we usually don't include live albums on these lists, but Iron Maiden's Live After Death warrants an exception.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: The triumphant double LP captures the Metal Titans on their Mammoth World Slavery Tour, featuring a flawless track listing and a band that's firing on all cylinders.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Um I'm not sure what's on this album, but I would imagine everything.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: I'm sure the big one, the trooper trooper, and you know.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: Uh so hard rock and heavy metal.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: So so far we've had the big four, we've had Night Ranger.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: We've had Rush.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: ACDC Rush.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: And the number one is Aerosmith.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Done with mirrors.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: Done with mirrors.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Even before permanent vacation.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: Um this was the one that remember Joe Perry and Brad Woodford quit?
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: And so they had two different guitar players.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: And this was the one when Joe Perry and Brad Woodford came back.
- 38:54SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: So this has like let the music do the talking.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: Um really, that's all I know.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: And that was that was a uh a song that Joe Perry did with his band at when he left.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: And they reworked it and put it on this album.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: So this was like, this was oh, what the heck happened to Aerosmith with who are these other two guys on guitar?
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: And and then their comeback with Permanent Vacation.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: This was between those two things.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: So we got Brad and Joe back.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Let's do this album, and then we're gonna all go on the wagon and do permanent vacation.
- 39:29SPEAKER_08: I was about to say, I thought this was their last drug album.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure this is uh right before permanent vacation.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: Aerosmith fans are gonna be tick at me if I'm wrong.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: But um, I don't care.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm gonna look it up just to confirm.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: Oops.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: I'm I keep forgetting I'm on YouTube.
- 39:47SPEAKER_09: I don't want I don't want to be on YouTube.
- 39:51SPEAKER_09: Take me off YouTube.
- 39:53SPEAKER_09: I want a disc aura disc au graphy.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: Because I'm pretty sure Demo with mirrors is right before permanent vacation.
- 40:04SPEAKER_09: There.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: Um and I'm right.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: So Rockin' a Hard Place was the one without uh Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: And that was in 1982.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: And then they came back, and this one came out in 85.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: Permanent vacation was 87, so yes.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: They went on the wagon after this album.
- 40:24SPEAKER_08: Right, I believe.
- 40:25SPEAKER_08: Then they got good.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Then they got good.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: Well, they were always good.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Not always good, but then they got better.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: They got better.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: Yep, for sure.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 40:35SPEAKER_09: Oh, Fryzer Up, Fryes are up.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: That is my piano player messaging me.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, and that's it.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: That's the list.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: The top 20 hard rock and heavy metal albums of 1985.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: You see where I was, it was weird for me.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is a weird list.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: Because you got the big four, and then you got like Night Ranger and Aerosmith and ACD and Rush.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: You know, yeah.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Um Great.
- 40:58SPEAKER_08: They should just set it just, you know, great rock albums.
- 41:00SPEAKER_08: If they just said great rock albums, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:02SPEAKER_08: I would get it.
- 41:03SPEAKER_08: I'd be like, yeah, that collie makes sense.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree.
- 41:06SPEAKER_08: Henry.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, we're gonna go back to Henry?
- 41:09SPEAKER_08: We can talk about it No, no, no, just I I just you know, he's one of my man crushes, so uh It's Henry.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: We're talking about Henry Rollins, of course.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: The Ultimate Classic Rock has a great article on Henry Rollins uh and how he loves to collect vinyl.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: And you were talking about how he's like manic about this.
- 41:28SPEAKER_08: Oh, he loves he was well, he was talking about when I saw him in uh Walderborough, uh he was talking about his collection.
- 41:35SPEAKER_08: He he likes to get uh um you know, like rare stuff, like demo stuff.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 41:41SPEAKER_08: You know, you know that's that's what he's looking for.
- 41:44SPEAKER_08: He l he loves j he loves old jazz albums, uh stuff like that, you know, stuff that you wouldn't think that Henry Rollins would listen to.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 41:52SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean, he named himself after Sonny Rollins.
- 41:54SPEAKER_08: I mean, come on.
- 41:55SPEAKER_08: So he does you know he loves jazz.
- 41:57SPEAKER_08: Oh, Henry Rollins is not his real name?
- 41:59SPEAKER_08: No, his name is Henry Garfield.
- 42:00SPEAKER_08: I never knew that.
- 42:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, his dad was an air admiral in the Navy.
- 42:05SPEAKER_08: See, you learn something new every day.
- 42:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:06SPEAKER_08: So he changed his name to Rollins because after Sonny Rollins.
- 42:10SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's cool.
- 42:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: So let's see.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: Well, that's all I had.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: So let's do uh that.
- 42:18SPEAKER_10: Let's do mixtape! Mixtake! All right.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, let's do No, that doesn't really fit.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: That doesn't really fit.
- 42:30SPEAKER_08: We should have like like tape hiss.
- 42:33SPEAKER_08: You know, remember when you listen to a cassette?
- 42:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: And it was like Well, like I said, we have the technology.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 42:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah, there we go.
- 42:52SPEAKER_08: That's that's how you start off mixtape right there.
- 42:56SPEAKER_08: Mixtape right there, baby.
- 42:59SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 42:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah, this generation knows nothing about making mixtapes.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: They don't they don't realize there's a science.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Which made me sad.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: You know, um, if I could find a CD player, like a portable CD player, that I can plug into my car, I would do it.
- 43:16SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's right.
- 43:17SPEAKER_08: You don't have a CD player.
- 43:18SPEAKER_08: I don't have a CD player.
- 43:19SPEAKER_08: They don't put them in cars anymore.
- 43:20SPEAKER_08: Sad.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: Uh everything is streaming, and I hate, I hate it.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: I would make um a mixed CD.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: You know, like of of of songs that I love.
- 43:29SPEAKER_08: Well, you can make a Spotify playlist.
- 43:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but it's not the same.
- 43:33SPEAKER_09: It's lame.
- 43:33SPEAKER_09: It's not the same.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: You're lame, Spotify.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: And I don't, I don't, um, I don't have like a uh what do you call a premium account?
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: I refuse to do that.
- 43:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah, don't give him any more money than he needs.
- 43:43SPEAKER_08: So he's already ripping everybody off as it is.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: But do you think they make that?
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: Do you think they make like portable CD players that you can just plug into like a USB or something like that?
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: I doubt it.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: You doubt it?
- 43:53SPEAKER_08: They might.
- 43:53SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 43:54SPEAKER_08: I just never looked for one.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:55SPEAKER_08: Because I I still have a C D player in my car.
- 43:58unknown: Oh yeah.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: I should uh yeah.
- 44:01SPEAKER_08: But I think but I think you you could probably buy one and have it installed in your Yeah, I don't want to do that.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: You know that's the only way you're gonna because they have the they have the you know the dash things and I don't want to mess that up.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:16SPEAKER_08: So Yeah, but I do miss C D players.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: I gotta especially in the car.
- 44:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah, exactly.
- 44:22SPEAKER_08: Of course it was, you know, it was dangerous as all get out.
- 44:26SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 44:26SPEAKER_08: Changing CDs because you know you had the little flip book, you know, and you had to take it out, take the CD, and put it in the CD.
- 44:32SPEAKER_08: Did you keep yours in your on your uh Yeah, I did well one and then I had of course my big one in the big you know the big book folder.
- 44:39SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 44:39SPEAKER_08: You know, you had to have that because that's where all your good CDs were.
- 44:42SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 44:42SPEAKER_08: You know, all the ones up in the on the uh on the uh visor were that's your just like yeah, I'll just yeah.
- 44:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's yeah, that's okay.
- 44:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 44:51SPEAKER_08: But uh yeah.
- 44:52SPEAKER_08: You kept all your good ones in the big book.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 44:56SPEAKER_08: I forgot what I was doing.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: You are you we're doing mixtape, you're looking for the past.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: What was the last question?
- 45:02SPEAKER_08: That was the uh skating rink one.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: Skating rink one?
- 45:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, your your crush is currently.
- 45:09SPEAKER_08: That's right, that's right.
- 45:10SPEAKER_01: And I mine was Careless Whisper.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: And I can't remember what.
- 45:13SPEAKER_08: So this is what our awesome judge said.
- 45:16SPEAKER_08: I loved all the pics this week.
- 45:18SPEAKER_08: I could easily see an 80s film playing in my head with a love-struck boy watching his crush skate towards him with each song playing.
- 45:26SPEAKER_08: They all fit perfectly, but I had to go with O'Brien's Careless Whisper.
- 45:30SPEAKER_08: Uh that trumpet solo is just too perfect.
- 45:32SPEAKER_08: Well, I I didn't have the heart to tell her it's actually a saxophone.
- 45:35SPEAKER_09: That's okay.
- 45:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but yeah, she was close.
- 45:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 45:37SPEAKER_08: Uh as soon as I heard it, it fit perfectly.
- 45:39SPEAKER_08: All great picks, though.
- 45:41SPEAKER_09: So nice.
- 45:42SPEAKER_08: So that was the one.
- 45:44SPEAKER_08: So this week is the uh the present.
- 45:50SPEAKER_08: That would be the I have to get it.
- 45:54SPEAKER_08: I don't I don't know why I'm looking for the picture, because it's right here.
- 45:57SPEAKER_08: It's in the box.
- 45:59SPEAKER_08: It's in the box, man.
- 46:02SPEAKER_08: So this is this week's question.
- 46:04SPEAKER_08: You inadvertently saved the life of a crime boss.
- 46:07SPEAKER_08: He has invited you to his private club as a show of gratitude.
- 46:11SPEAKER_08: You hop out of the cab a few blocks early to walk the rest of the way.
- 46:14SPEAKER_08: What song plays in the background?
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: Alright, what is Cousin Larry's?
- 46:17SPEAKER_08: Okay, so this is what Cousin Larry said.
- 46:23SPEAKER_08: Cousin Larry.
- 46:24SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 46:25SPEAKER_08: Ah, okay.
- 46:27SPEAKER_08: This one was easy for me.
- 46:28SPEAKER_08: The very first thing I thought of was the movie The Godfather and the theme from it.
- 46:32SPEAKER_08: I didn't know what it was called, so I had to Google it.
- 46:35SPEAKER_08: It's the Godfather Waltz by Carlo Savina and Nino Rota.
- 46:41SPEAKER_08: Honorable mention goes to CCR's Bad Moon Rising.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: Alright, Godfather Waltz.
- 46:45SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: U.S.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: Cellular.
- 46:48SPEAKER_09: That's a U.S.
- 46:49SPEAKER_09: Cellular commercial.
- 46:50SPEAKER_09: You can't fool me.
- 46:51SPEAKER_09: That's the Godfather Waltz right there.
- 46:53SPEAKER_09: Let's see.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: So he's out of the car, he's walking the rest of the way.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: I've not seen any of the Godfather movies.
- 47:33SPEAKER_10: What?
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: Have you never seen these movies, man?
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Any of the Godfather movies.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, they're all I've seen scenes from them.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: They're all amazing.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: But I've I've not seen any of them.
- 47:44SPEAKER_08: I have a weird thing with mob movies.
- 47:47SPEAKER_08: I love I love mafia movies.
- 47:49SPEAKER_08: I don't know why.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:50SPEAKER_08: All the Godfathers, um Goodfellas.
- 47:54SPEAKER_08: Goodfellas.
- 47:54SPEAKER_08: I mean, goodfellas.
- 47:55SPEAKER_08: I mean, that's just classic.
- 47:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 47:57SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 47:57SPEAKER_08: What am I a clown?
- 47:58SPEAKER_08: I amuse you.
- 48:00SPEAKER_08: Why make you laugh?
- 48:02SPEAKER_08: How do I make you laugh?
- 48:03SPEAKER_08: How do I make you laugh?
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: I I don't know if I've ever told anybody that that I've that I've never watched the Godfather movies.
- 48:16SPEAKER_08: They're all amazing, man.
- 48:18SPEAKER_08: They're all especially the first two.
- 48:20SPEAKER_08: First two are the best.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: I and again, I've uh seen scenes from them.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: You know, like the most famous scenes or whatever.
- 48:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 48:28SPEAKER_08: A Bronx Tale is a great one.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: That's De Niro, right?
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: De Niro, yeah.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:32SPEAKER_08: He's not even in the mob in that one.
- 48:34SPEAKER_08: So that's a great thing.
- 48:35SPEAKER_08: That's what I like about that one.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 48:37unknown: But yeah.
- 48:37SPEAKER_08: Alright, what's yours?
- 48:39SPEAKER_08: What's yours?
- 48:39SPEAKER_08: Oh, so my I had a hard time coming over something.
- 48:41SPEAKER_08: I was just like, I have no idea.
- 48:43SPEAKER_08: Oh, I actually I have to uh he came back later and he's like, oh geez, I'm listening to the podcast and I heard you doing Brando.
- 48:50SPEAKER_08: Should I differ pick a different song?
- 48:52SPEAKER_08: Sounds like you guys were already going in that direction.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: No, that's a perfect.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Yours is perfect.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: Uh so what's yours?
- 49:01SPEAKER_08: Uh well, I was like, I don't know.
- 49:06SPEAKER_08: I I I really don't know what I was gonna do.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: I didn't either, but I picked one.
- 49:10SPEAKER_08: I did too, and it was like the only one that you know, because you know, if you you're you know, you kind of go and you feel like a you know, you feel kind of a like BA.
- 49:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah so I was like, you know what?
- 49:21SPEAKER_08: You know what a BA song is?
- 49:23SPEAKER_08: It's Pantera domination.
- 49:26SPEAKER_08: Especially that last like breakdown, you know what I mean?
- 49:29SPEAKER_08: And I was like, yeah, that's the song right there.
- 49:32SPEAKER_09: I I don't know that song.
- 49:33SPEAKER_09: Well we're gonna find out.
- 49:34SPEAKER_09: Oh, you do know the song.
- 49:35SPEAKER_09: I do?
- 49:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:36SPEAKER_09: Are you sure?
- 49:37unknown: Yeah.
- 50:24SPEAKER_09: Was this in one of our videos?
- 50:26SPEAKER_08: No, I I I played this song because I heard the O'Keefe Foundation kids doing a version of this and I played that.
- 50:34SPEAKER_08: Oh that you hadn't heard the original.
- 50:37SPEAKER_08: I mean you play the right.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: Remember the remember the video the the movie that we made about women?
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: It was uh something about uh where we had like little army bend and it was something about like Oh, to hell with women's lips?
- 50:58SPEAKER_09: Yes, yes.
- 50:59SPEAKER_09: No, we didn't use that.
- 51:00SPEAKER_09: We used something like this.
- 51:02SPEAKER_09: No, we had uh Warren Was it?
- 51:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 51:06SPEAKER_09: No, no, okay.
- 51:07SPEAKER_09: I'm talking about like the battle scene.
- 51:09SPEAKER_09: Was that Warrant?
- 51:10SPEAKER_09: No, no, that no.
- 51:12SPEAKER_08: No, Warren was for the opening credit.
- 51:17SPEAKER_08: I didn't I had nothing to do with that one because I was on the phone with Kathy.
- 51:20SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's you guys made you and Bob made that movie by yourself.
- 51:25SPEAKER_10: The Lip is clip.
- 51:28SPEAKER_08: That's a Bob title.
- 51:31SPEAKER_08: No, my the the part I really wanted was the end of this song.
- 51:35SPEAKER_08: There's this really massive, like heavy breakdown.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: So how far?
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 51:42SPEAKER_09: Before this?
- 51:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, before that.
- 51:45SPEAKER_09: Whoops.
- 51:47SPEAKER_08: Before this?
- 51:49SPEAKER_08: After this.
- 51:49SPEAKER_08: This is the stall off.
- 51:50SPEAKER_08: Okay, I'll flip it.
- 51:51SPEAKER_08: I'll slap up.
- 51:53SPEAKER_08: Coming up right here.

- 52:36SPEAKER_01: Domination.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Uh all right, so mine, again, I I didn't have anything, um, but I this popped in my head.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, and it does come from a different uh from another movie.
- 52:47SPEAKER_01: Ah.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: Um Ted's X1 mentioned.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 52:55SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 52:56SPEAKER_09: Reservoir Dogs.
- 52:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 52:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:58SPEAKER_09: This is George Baker's selection.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: Looking back on the back for the green bag.
- 53:04SPEAKER_01: So this is what I'm hearing in my head as I'm walking.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, what just happened?
- 54:03SPEAKER_01: The crime boss because I just saved his life.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: I'm happy.
- 54:08SPEAKER_09: I'm happy.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: My little green bag.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: Anyway, George Baker selection.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: Little little green bag.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: And yes, it was from Res Dogs.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Res Dogs.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know why that popped into my head, but because I weren't they walking to that song?
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: I can't remember what how he used it in the movie.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: I think they were walking or something like slow motion or might have been.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 54:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was the B, it was the not that part of the song, but the beginning of that song.
- 54:37SPEAKER_08: Right, yeah, yeah.
- 54:38SPEAKER_08: They're all like walking like you know, all yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:42SPEAKER_08: It's just that Res Dogs is such a great movie.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:45SPEAKER_08: You know, but I digress.
- 54:47SPEAKER_08: So Cousin Larry had The Godfather Waltz.
- 54:50SPEAKER_08: I had Pantera, Domination.
- 54:52SPEAKER_08: Domination, and you had George.
- 54:54SPEAKER_08: George Baker selection, Little Green Bag.
- 54:57SPEAKER_08: Kick it back.
- 54:57SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 54:58SPEAKER_08: Kick it back.
- 54:58SPEAKER_08: Little Green Bag.
- 55:00SPEAKER_08: Okay, so here is future.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 55:03SPEAKER_08: This one's gonna be very subjective.
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 55:06SPEAKER_08: So what is the saddest song in all of history?
- 55:12SPEAKER_08: What kind of question is that?
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: What is the saddest song?
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: The saddest song in all of history.
- 55:21SPEAKER_08: That's why it's gonna be very subjective.
- 55:23SPEAKER_08: I don't feel I I feel bad for the judge.
- 55:26SPEAKER_08: She's gonna have a hard time with this one.
- 55:28SPEAKER_08: Saddest?
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: I can think of a lot of saddest songs.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: I know, right?
- 55:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:34SPEAKER_08: But what's the saddest?
- 55:37SPEAKER_08: What is the saddest song in all of history?
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna have to put some thought into that.
- 55:43SPEAKER_08: I know, right?
- 55:45SPEAKER_08: It's great crying.
- 55:48SPEAKER_08: Uh record the podcast?
- 55:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, exactly.
- 55:53SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah! Oh yeah, what was I gonna do?
- 55:56SPEAKER_08: What was I supposed to do?
- 55:57SPEAKER_08: I don't remember.
- 55:57SPEAKER_08: I don't remember anymore.
- 56:00SPEAKER_09: I'm old.
- 56:02SPEAKER_09: It's fun to be old.
- 56:03SPEAKER_09: Can be.
- 56:05SPEAKER_09: Um, all right, so we're gonna take a break.
- 56:14SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna send this to cousin Larry.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: We are gonna come back.

- 56:22SPEAKER_08: You're getting better at it.
- 56:23SPEAKER_08: I am.
- 56:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 56:25SPEAKER_08: Hooked on phonics worked for me.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: You know, we don't see that anymore.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: Hooked on phonics?
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: Like the.
- 56:35SPEAKER_08: They can't read, they can't write.

- 58:25SPEAKER_01: Not as good as not as good as you.

- 58:50SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take off my headphones.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: Before we start reading, I just I have to explain people what I'm doing.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I'm gonna take off my headphones.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna climb the wall.

- 59:01SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 59:09SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna put on my tinfoil hat.
- 59:15SPEAKER_08: Alright, so the song I chose this week for Beatles, uh, I'll Be Back.
- 59:22SPEAKER_08: John found the chords for I'll Be Back while playing a Dell Shannon song.
- 59:27SPEAKER_08: This was probably Runaway, which the Beatles had played in their early shows, and which also starts in a minor chord that has a descending bass line.
- 59:36SPEAKER_08: Shannon had hits in 1961-1962 with Runaway, Hats Off to Larry, So Long Baby, and Hey Little Girl.
- 59:44SPEAKER_08: In 1963, after a hit with Little Town Flirt, he played London's Royal Albert Hall with the Beatles and suggested to them that he could help expose their work in America by covering one of their songs as a single.
- 59:59SPEAKER_08: The Beatles agreed, and Shannon went back home and recorded a version of From Me to You, which, although it only reached number 77, which was the first Lennon and McCartney composition to feature in the American charts.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_08: I like this song.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, me too.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: Is that it?
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: It's very short.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_01: Let's hear a little bit of this one.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_11: I thought that you would re-old life.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_11: That if I ran away from you, that you would want me to.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_01: I do, you know, we talked about this last time.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: We talked about this last time.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: I know you like all Beatles, and I do like all Beatles as well.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_01: But I am I am uh like keen on this this era.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_01: The the poppy harmony laden, yeah, you know, fun pop gum bubble gum.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_11: I mean I love rubber salt, but I hate to leave you.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_11: You know I hate to leave you.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_11: Oh you if you break my heart I'll go, but I'll be back again.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_08: Very simple, very to the point.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_08: Perfect.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah, very, very great song, man.

- 1:01:51SPEAKER_08: Now I'm gonna sit here and go, hmm, hmm.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_08: I wonder what it is today.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_01: I think we probably have done this artist before, but I'm not sure.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure we've done this in this album.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_08: I'm building suspense.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_08: Is that what you're doing?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_08: Is that what you're gonna do?
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_08: Everybody's like, is he gonna start guessing or is he just gonna sit there and be stupid?
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_08: Well, guess what, everybody?

- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_08: I like this song.

- 1:10:16SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_08: Well, I'm not surprised.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_08: He dropped a mother effer in uh teamroller.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: And this is 77, so he was still on heroin.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_08: Who wasn't on heroin in 77?
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_08: I wasn't.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_08: I wasn't either.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_08: I was four.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_08: I was five.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_08: Pretty sure I didn't even know what heroin was at this point.
- 1:10:45unknown: That big chat code.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_01: This is called Honey Don't Leave LA.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_08: Then you gotta play that song anymore.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_08: Probably not.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_01: And you can't tell, you can't really tell.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: It's the B word.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_01: He he does it in such a way where he kind of I don't know, I think he slides it underneath.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_12: He's pretty good at that.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_01: Um but maybe it's maybe it's blatant.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: Maybe you you tell me.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_01: It's just in the first couple lines of this uh next verse.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, that was a good way to slide it in there, man.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_08: That was good.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: Props to JT.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: Um okay.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_01: This one is a weird song, but I I dig it.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_01: I was only telling a lie.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_01: Listen to this in the headphones.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_08: It's so panic so fast.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_08: Wow, it's kind of giving me a headache.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_13: Right.

- 1:12:11SPEAKER_13: Gotta love a live view.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_13: And off round for Route 72.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_01: So this is a far cry from Fire and Rain.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, right.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_08: Did you do Fire and Rain before there or after?
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, way before.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_01: Way before, yeah.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_01: I think this is probably the heaviest song on the album.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_02: Stop beauty.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_02: It's not very heavy, but beauty, I'm in love with you.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_02: Hope it don't last too long.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_13: Got the mackerel light.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_13: Give it a chance.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_13: Got me to the ties down love again.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_01: Kind of freaks out here in a second.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_08: What's a marine?
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_08: George Harrisones.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_08: Solo.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_01: I haven't heard this in a long time.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_01: Should be coming up here pretty soon.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_12: This is a lot of problem.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_12: I was told it's here we go.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_01: This is my favorite part.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_01: I haven't heard this song in forever.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's me.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's just me.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_01: I think that's a cool part.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_01: Alright, so um, I'm not gonna choose this song for uh next week's mixtape.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_01: This is the last one I'm gonna play on this album, but this is a sad song.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_01: Um I'm I'll play a little bit of it.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_01: Actually, play most of it.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_02: When I feel as though my love is sinking down.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_02: The sun doesn't want to shine.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_02: And when it feels like she won't face another day, life is unkind.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_02: She's frozen time, and here comes another green morning.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_02: She says, Well what I might do today.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_02: Too much time.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_02: So much sorrow.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_02: She hears the baby waking up downstairs.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_02: She hears the fog horn calling out across the sound.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_02: Repetition in the morning air.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_02: And no one seems to care if another day goes creeping by.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_08: I don't know why you say this is sad.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_08: It's kind of uh beat.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_01: Well, it's it's about depression.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_08: Well, yeah, but he's making it kind of like yeah, like a depressed person.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_08: Like they're down, they're up, they're down, they're up.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: Well, let it finish, because I mean it's hold on one day.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_02: One of my favorites.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_02: This is kind of a happy part.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_02: Music-wise, yes.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_02: It's not the words.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_02: I didn't understand her.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_02: God knows I tried.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_02: She said, Make me angry.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_02: Just make me cry.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_02: The music's not fitting the words.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_01: No more gray morning.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_08: I think I'd rather die.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, see, the words and the music aren't meshing for me at all.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_08: Because the music's kind of.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_01: It's melancholy.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_01: I think I th I think the mu music is melancholy.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_08: I think I think it's kind of uplifting.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_01: It does take it does take a tw take a to a twist in the middle there where it goes to like a major key and then you know, it's brighter.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean if you if you listen just to the s to the music, you're like, oh, that's kind of a nice like laid back song.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_08: But when you listen to the words, you're like, whoa.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_01: Oh dark.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_01: No more of these gray mornings.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_01: I can't stand any more of these gray mornings, I think.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_01: I'd just rather give up.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is dark.
