- 0:01Speaker 1: Talk to nicely. I violently gasped for air as I
- 0:04Speaker 1: was jolted back to consciousness. My neck ached and my
- 0:07Speaker 1: mouth felt like sandpaper from the unnaturally dry air around me.
- 0:12Speaker 1: At first, everything was blurry. A curse brought upon me
- 0:15Speaker 1: by genetically poor eyesight. I fumbled around for my glasses,
- 0:19Speaker 1: only to accidentally step on them as I tried to
- 0:21Speaker 1: get to my feet. To my luck, they didn't break. Hello?
- 0:25Speaker 1: I croaked out as I put the glasses on. That's
- 0:27Speaker 1: when I realized I was in a classroom, but not
- 0:30Speaker 1: just any random one. It was the place I'd suffered
- 0:32Speaker 1: through countless math lessons throughout my short tenure at high school.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Is there anyone there? I asked again. I tried to
- 0:39Speaker 1: figure out what had happened prior to my strange slumber,
- 0:42Speaker 1: but my memory remained hazy. It felt as if I'd
- 0:45Speaker 1: slept for days, snatched out from my day-to-day life to
- 0:48Speaker 1: be thrust into some kind of bizarre nightmare. The door
- 0:51Speaker 1: that led into the hallway stood slightly open, allowing flickering
- 0:55Speaker 1: light to slip in from the other side. I carefully
- 0:57Speaker 1: walked over, fear rising through my body without any reasonable explanation.
- 1:02Speaker 1: As I put my hand on the door handle, it
- 1:04Speaker 1: just shot open. I fell to the ground, letting out
- 1:07Speaker 1: a quick yell as a dark figure towered above me. Greg?
- 1:10Speaker 1: The voice said. It was Brian, one of my closest
- 1:13Speaker 1: friends from early childhood. Just the sight of him gave
- 1:16Speaker 1: me a brief moment of relief. The lonely surroundings suddenly
- 1:20Speaker 1: seemed less threatening. He reached out a hand and pulled
- 1:22Speaker 1: me to my feet. What are you doing here? What's
- 1:25Speaker 1: going on? I asked. We just woke up around the school.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Something's wrong, he said with a trembling voice. What is?
- 1:33Speaker 1: He just stared over my shoulder towards the closed windows.
- 1:36Speaker 1: The blinds were blocking out what little light could possibly
- 1:38Speaker 1: exist on the outside, but that wasn't the reason why
- 1:41Speaker 1: Brian seemed worried. Oh no, we're too late, he said.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I turned around to see a strange, black fog seeping
- 1:48Speaker 1: in through the curtains, forming a thick layer along the floor.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It moved slowly towards us, bringing with it a sense
- 1:54Speaker 1: of impending doom. As it passed the desks on the ground,
- 1:58Speaker 1: the metal seemed to rust. The wood rotted before our eyes,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and the paint immediately peeled off. It was as if
- 2:04Speaker 1: the fog was aging everything rapidly, spinning time forward unhinged
- 2:08Speaker 1: from the rest of reality. What the... I tried to
- 2:11Speaker 1: get out before Brian grabbed my arm and pulled me
- 2:13Speaker 1: into the hallway, shutting the door behind him. We have
- 2:16Speaker 1: to get back to the principal's office. That's where the
- 2:18Speaker 1: rest of the students are, he said. The rest of
- 2:20Speaker 1: the students? I asked. About a dozen of us woke
- 2:23Speaker 1: up here. We've been looking for a way out while
- 2:25Speaker 1: we searched for others. But every exit is covered by
- 2:28Speaker 1: that fucking fog. What is the fog? I asked. I...
- 2:32Speaker 1: I don't know. But you'll die if it touches you.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Only light keeps it away. With that, he handed me
- 2:38Speaker 1: a flashlight. Don't use it until you absolutely have to.
- 2:41Speaker 1: The fog eats off the battery quicker than you can
- 2:43Speaker 1: run through it. Doug already tried. He's... He trailed off.
- 2:48Speaker 1: He ushered me along before I could ask any further questions.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Truth be told, I was too confused and panicked to
- 2:54Speaker 1: dig into what exactly was going on. My main priority
- 2:57Speaker 1: was to get out of there. Only then I could
- 2:59Speaker 1: figure out exactly how I'd been trapped inside my own school.
- 3:03Speaker 1: We crossed an intersecting hallway. I took a brief pause
- 3:06Speaker 1: to glance into each of the branching off parts. There
- 3:09Speaker 1: were walls of darkness blocking off each way, funneling us
- 3:12Speaker 1: towards the principal's office. The fog itself was dangling around
- 3:16Speaker 1: a flickering light, seeming to feed off its warmth. For
- 3:19Speaker 1: each passing second, the light grew dimmer, before darkening completely. Then,
- 3:24Speaker 1: it started seeping towards the hallway. Come on, we don't
- 3:26Speaker 1: have much time, Brian yelled. But we were too late.
- 3:29Speaker 1: The bulb at the end of our destination shattered into
- 3:32Speaker 1: a million pieces, causing glass to rain down onto the floor.
- 3:36Speaker 1: A flicker of light was all that remained before the
- 3:38Speaker 1: fog overtook the path ahead. The door to the principal's
- 3:41Speaker 1: office was just visible around the corner, but without the light,
- 3:44Speaker 1: it quickly got consumed by the fog. No! Ryan screamed
- 3:48Speaker 1: in defeat. On the other side of the door, we
- 3:50Speaker 1: could hear a few panicked screams. At first, they were
- 3:53Speaker 1: filled with agony, but as their flesh was stripped off
- 3:56Speaker 1: the student's bone by the rapid passage of time itself...
- 3:59Speaker 1: The screams turned to dry groans. The voices that cried
- 4:02Speaker 1: out were aging, fading away in the vast darkness. We
- 4:06Speaker 1: turned around and ran in the opposite direction, just barely
- 4:09Speaker 1: able to avoid the fog eating up the intersection. With
- 4:12Speaker 1: each and every path gone, we had no choice but
- 4:14Speaker 1: to return to the mathematics classroom. The paint on the
- 4:17Speaker 1: walls was peeling. The pictures had long since faded, leaving
- 4:20Speaker 1: little rotten husks of frames that used to carry school memories.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Then we passed the classroom, which was filled to the
- 4:26Speaker 1: brim with black fog that got pushed out under the
- 4:29Speaker 1: edge of the door. We didn't stop. We just kept
- 4:31Speaker 1: running in the general direction of the cafeteria, praying to
- 4:34Speaker 1: find refuge. Oh, my God, there's someone out there. A
- 4:38Speaker 1: voice called out from the cafeteria, but it didn't matter
- 4:41Speaker 1: because a wall of black fog was blocking our way.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Though not as thick as the rest of them, it
- 4:45Speaker 1: would kill us unless we kept the darkness at bay.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Our flashlights won't work. We have to try, I told Brian.
- 4:52Speaker 1: He stared at me for a moment. before realizing the
- 4:54Speaker 1: hopelessness of our situation. He nodded in hesitated agreement as
- 4:58Speaker 1: the other students were calling us from the other side,
- 5:01Speaker 1: telling us to hurry up. Then we turned our flashlights on,
- 5:04Speaker 1: an action that immediately started pulling the fog towards us.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It swirled around the light, heating it up. At the
- 5:10Speaker 1: same time, the most minute gap formed in the wall
- 5:12Speaker 1: of darkness, just large enough for us to pass through.
- 5:15Speaker 1: That time, we didn't hesitate. We rushed into the darkness,
- 5:19Speaker 1: praying it wouldn't consume us. Then I heard a shattering
- 5:22Speaker 1: sound as Brian's flashlight got crushed beneath the pressure of
- 5:25Speaker 1: the fog. No sooner had the light flickered out than
- 5:28Speaker 1: the fog wrapped around him. He let out a scream
- 5:30Speaker 1: as his skin started to dry out. His face formed
- 5:33Speaker 1: wrinkles and his back arched as if the vertebrae within
- 5:36Speaker 1: had collapsed. Within the span of three seconds, he had
- 5:39Speaker 1: died from what could only be excruciating pain and unnatural
- 5:43Speaker 1: old age. I dove through, feeling glass shards hit my
- 5:46Speaker 1: face as my own flashlight shattered. The fog reached out
- 5:49Speaker 1: for me, but one of the other students snatched me
- 5:51Speaker 1: away just in time to save my life. Brian! I
- 5:54Speaker 1: cried out in disbelief, but it was too late. Three
- 5:57Speaker 1: students greeted me on the other side, two guys and
- 6:00Speaker 1: a girl, all of them seniors I'd only known in passing.
- 6:03Speaker 1: They looked emaciated, starved, as if they'd been there for weeks.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I can't believe you made it, the girl said, yet
- 6:10Speaker 1: her voice wasn't filled with amazement, but rather apathy. She
- 6:14Speaker 1: seemed older than I remember her, She must have noticed
- 6:17Speaker 1: me staring, because she put on a clearly fake smile
- 6:20Speaker 1: and brushed her graying hair away. Yeah, I've had better days,
- 6:24Speaker 1: she joked without a hint of emotion in her voice.
- 6:26Speaker 1: This place eats you up even if you're not touching
- 6:28Speaker 1: the fog. Just being near it will eventually kill you.
- 6:32Speaker 1: How long have you been here? I asked, still in
- 6:35Speaker 1: shock from watching my friend die. Months, the girl said. How?
- 6:40Speaker 1: How the hell did you survive? I went on. Cafeteria food.
- 6:44Speaker 1: The fog wasn't very big at first. just blocking the exits.
- 6:47Speaker 1: There were so many of us, but now... She trailed off.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Why hasn't anyone come for us? We heard voices through
- 6:54Speaker 1: the fog at first, but... But what? I asked. We
- 6:57Speaker 1: haven't heard from the outside world in weeks. That's if
- 7:00Speaker 1: it's even out. She was cut off by the fog
- 7:03Speaker 1: leaking into the cafeteria. The doors aged enough to just
- 7:06Speaker 1: break under its pressure. Oh god! One of the guys
- 7:09Speaker 1: let out. This is it! The fog washed in over
- 7:12Speaker 1: the students. They didn't even try to fight it anymore.
- 7:15Speaker 1: They'd given up weeks ago, just waiting to die. But
- 7:18Speaker 1: I wasn't ready yet. I crawled on my back away
- 7:21Speaker 1: from the incoming wave of darkness. The girl let out
- 7:23Speaker 1: a final sigh as her lungs got too dried out
- 7:26Speaker 1: to hold in any air. Despite the obvious agony, she
- 7:29Speaker 1: almost sounded relieved to finally be free. Within a few seconds,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I was surrounded, meaning any chance of survival was a
- 7:36Speaker 1: hopeless fever dream. I curled up into a ball, still
- 7:39Speaker 1: not ready to accept my fate. I could feel my
- 7:42Speaker 1: skin dry out and wrinkle up as the fog neared.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But just as I thought my time on this planet
- 7:47Speaker 1: had come to an end, I saw an infinitely bright
- 7:49Speaker 1: light penetrate the darkness. The light wasn't like anything I'd
- 7:52Speaker 1: ever seen before. It was pale blue, almost turquoise. Unlike
- 7:57Speaker 1: the rest of the lights, the fog seemed repelled by it,
- 8:00Speaker 1: disintegrating into nothing. Another beam of light shot through the fog,
- 8:03Speaker 1: then a third, and a fourth. Before long, the entire
- 8:07Speaker 1: cafeteria was lit up. A bunch of uniformed men stormed in,
- 8:10Speaker 1: killing the darkness before dragging my weak body outside. Then
- 8:14Speaker 1: I just blacked out. I spent the next month in
- 8:17Speaker 1: the hospital. Parts of my body have aged 30 years,
- 8:21Speaker 1: while others remain untouched. No one can explain what happened
- 8:24Speaker 1: inside the school, nor is there any way to find out.
- 8:27Speaker 1: The building has long since been demolished, covered up to
- 8:30Speaker 1: pretend nothing ever happened there. I'm not sure what haunts
- 8:33Speaker 1: me the most, the fact that my friends are all dead,
- 8:36Speaker 1: or that most of them were mere minutes away from survival.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. Thanks for watching. You can watch another
