Speaker 2: a little bit later on, but I do want to
• 2:53
Speaker 2: focus on this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the

Speaker 2: week as always. Picture posted at Dave Island Radio and
• 2:58

• 3:02
Speaker 2: on x tell us the story of a cat. We
• 3:05
Speaker 2: have a cat this week by the name of Scar.
• 3:08
Speaker 4: So I wanted to give the cat people you know,
• 3:11
Speaker 4: what they wanted this week, including myself. So Scar came
• 3:15
Speaker 4: to Kha as astray. Originally he had what's what's called
• 3:20
Speaker 4: an ear tip. You'll notice there's a small the tip
• 3:22
Speaker 4: top of his ears missing. That's usually to indicate that
• 3:26
Speaker 4: feral cats or just cats that live outside have been
• 3:29
Speaker 4: stayed and neutered already and don't need captured again. But
• 3:33
Speaker 4: Scar didn't find that luck with whoever trapped him and
• 3:35
Speaker 4: brought him to Kha, we knew what that little ear
• 3:39
Speaker 4: tip meant, so we you know, got him revaccinated all
• 3:42
Speaker 4: ready for an option. He's the sweetest little cat in
• 3:45
Speaker 4: the world. He loves to just like lean into your
• 3:47
Speaker 4: hand when you're petting him. And if you're interested in Scar,
• 3:51
Speaker 4: he is living at the pet Co Pit Houses in Tay's.
• 3:54
Speaker 2: Valley, living his best life, as you like to say,
• 3:56
Speaker 2: at the pet Go penhouse there in Tays Valley. He's
• 3:59
Speaker 2: a beautiful cat. And again, if you're looking for an
• 4:01
Speaker 2: ideal cat, from basically what you told me, he's got
• 4:04
Speaker 2: a great personality. He's an older cat, seven, he is neutered,
• 4:08
Speaker 2: he's vaccinated, and you said, a very sweet little man
• 4:12
  Speaker 2: who loves attention.
• 4:14
Speaker 4: He absolutely does. Whenever I was putting him into him,
• 4:17
Speaker 4: helping him move into his house, if you will, he
• 4:20
Speaker 4: literally immediately turned around and was just rubbing all over
• 4:23
Speaker 4: my hands and arms. So he definitely if you want
• 4:26
Speaker 4: a cat that's gonna be with you and wanting attention
• 4:28
Speaker 4: all the time, he's the one for you.
• 4:30
Speaker 2: All right. So you cat lovers out there, this is
• 4:32
Speaker 2: a the I mean because sometimes cats have a bad rap.
• 4:37
Speaker 2: You know that, because cats, basically, as you know, Angie,
• 4:39
Speaker 2: I'm a cat person too, they basically make their own rules,
• 4:42
Speaker 2: and some of them you never see. They stay under
• 4:46
Speaker 2: the I've had I've known people, Angie, that have had
• 4:48
Speaker 2: cats twelve thirteen years and the cat comes out and eats,
• 4:51
Speaker 2: he uses the little box and goes like right back
• 4:53
Speaker 2: on the bed, does not allow the owner to pet
• 4:55
Speaker 2: him whatsoever. I can't relate to that because my two
• 4:58
Speaker 2: cats are the exact opposite. It sounds like Scar is
• 5:01
Speaker 2: also the exact opposite.
• 5:03
Speaker 4: Yes, So the people that don't white cats or you know,
• 5:06
Speaker 4: don't get the appeal of cats. I always say, you
• 5:09
Speaker 4: just haven't met the right cat yet. So make Scar
• 5:12
Speaker 4: that cat for you. If you are totally against cats
• 5:15
Speaker 4: and don't get the appeal of it.
• 5:16
Speaker 2: Well I can tell you this morning. I was questioning
• 5:19
Speaker 2: that appeal at four thirty this morning, as my wife
• 5:21
Speaker 2: and I are in bed and I have one cat
• 5:23
Speaker 2: laying beside me and one at the foot of the
• 5:24
Speaker 2: bed and one that we call whaling and making a
• 5:27
Speaker 2: whole lot of noise at four thirty am this morning.
• 5:30
Speaker 2: So I was questioning the love of cats at that time, Angie.
• 5:33
Speaker 4: Just so you know, well, he just wanted to make
• 5:35
Speaker 4: sure that you were up and ready for this.
• 5:36
Speaker 2: All I mean sleeping in You know, it doesn't happen
• 5:40
Speaker 2: because they're at a schedule. They get fed every morning
• 5:42
Speaker 2: about four thirty or five. So there you go. All right,
• 5:46
Speaker 2: we'll get back to talking about Scar and just a bit.
• 5:48
Speaker 2: But Tuxas and Tails is tomorrow night. JQ. Dickinson Saltworks
• 5:52
Speaker 2: in Malden. Are you ready, Angie?
• 5:55
Speaker 4: I still don't even have anything to wear, so.
• 5:57
Speaker 2: I've been Wait a minute, it's not that kind of party, Angie, Okay.
• 6:02
Speaker 4: It's not, it's not. But yeah, So we have been
• 6:06
Speaker 4: so busy getting things going and making sure it's one
• 6:09
Speaker 4: of the best tuxes and tails, yet picking out a
• 6:12
Speaker 4: floral outfit for this event has split my mind.
• 6:15
Speaker 2: Are there any tickets left?
• 6:18
Speaker 4: Very few? I know I say that every time I'm
• 6:21
Speaker 4: on here, but they just keep kind of chipping away,
• 6:23
Speaker 4: dwindling down, so there are very few left. If you
• 6:27
Speaker 4: want to last minute get your tickets, now is the time.
• 6:30
Speaker 4: Don't wait until tomorrow.
• 6:31
Speaker 2: So what's it going to be like there? What's the theme?
• 6:34
Speaker 2: I mean, I know it's tuxes and tails, but what
• 6:35
Speaker 2: can people expect if they come out tomorrow night?
• 6:38
Speaker 4: Yes, so the theme is called Whiskers and Wildflowers and
• 6:41
Speaker 4: essentially just think like floral garden party. It doesn't have
• 6:45
Speaker 4: to be anything too fancy and you'll see there. There'll
• 6:49
Speaker 4: be an optical puppies, there'll be music, there'll be orders.
• 6:52
Speaker 4: So it's gonna be a little socialization for all of
• 6:56
Speaker 4: our staff but also all of the people that kind
• 6:58
Speaker 4: of make our life saving mission to happen, whether they donate,
• 7:02
Speaker 4: whether they adopt. It's just kind of a little a
• 7:05
Speaker 4: little gathering of everyone that makes this happen.
• 7:07
Speaker 2: And for those that have not seen the JQ Dickets
• 7:09
Speaker 2: and Saltworks, it's actually a really really cool place. I've
• 7:11
Speaker 2: been out there for events several times. It's a nice place.
• 7:15
Speaker 4: This will be my first time and I'm very excited
• 7:17
Speaker 4: to see it in person.
• 7:18
Speaker 5: I will say that we.
• 7:19
Speaker 2: Talk about the relationship that you guys have with Petco.
• 7:21
Speaker 2: We told you that this week's Adopt Me Please part
• 7:24
Speaker 2: of the week Scar the Cat liveted up right now
• 7:26
Speaker 2: at the Petco penthouse there in Tayese Valley. You had
• 7:28
Speaker 2: a big event that was sponsored I think by the
• 7:30
Speaker 2: Petco Love folks in Saint Albans this week right, uh.
• 7:34
Speaker 4: Yes, and also kind of it was sponsored by tek
• 7:38
Speaker 4: A Love, but also our community came together and raised
• 7:41
Speaker 4: their nations for that as well. But we were able
• 7:43
Speaker 4: to go to an unhoused community in Saint Albans and
• 7:46
Speaker 4: provide not only vaccines and microchips and preventive care like
• 7:50
Speaker 4: we typically do in our care event, but we were
• 7:52
Speaker 4: also able to sterilize aka stay and neuter some pets
• 7:57
Speaker 4: out there as well. I think it ended up being
• 7:59
Speaker 4: close to forty animals that you know are are now
• 8:03
Speaker 4: sterilized and vaccinated and microchipped because of those donations.
• 8:07
Speaker 2: So that is good stuff. So this you gotta I've
• 8:11
Speaker 2: been hearing these ads running on our stations. We have
• 8:13
Speaker 2: an online auction going on right now. That's pretty cool, yep.
• 8:17
Speaker 4: That is also a benefit for tuxes and tails. There's
• 8:20
Speaker 4: some I was actually before I hopped on here, I
• 8:22
Speaker 4: was looking at some really cool items that are in
• 8:26
Speaker 4: that auction, So definitely check it out. And again, those
• 8:31
Speaker 4: funds to go to help shelter pets, likes car and
• 8:34
Speaker 4: others that I've talked about on this show.
• 8:36
Speaker 2: And there's all kinds of cool stuff on there. I
• 8:37
Speaker 2: know there's concert tickets and so on and so forth.
• 8:39
Speaker 2: So you can get more information on your Facebook page.
• 8:41
Speaker 2: How are the numbers?
• 8:43
Speaker 4: Numbers are in a manageable space right now, but we
• 8:47
Speaker 4: are at the height of puppy and kitten season, so
• 8:50
Speaker 4: any day now we're expecting the numbers to greatly increase
• 8:53
Speaker 4: with either kittens or puppies because they always do it,
• 8:57
Speaker 4: and it's something that is very predictable.
• 9:00
Speaker 2: And what are you in need of right now?
• 9:02
  Speaker 5: All?
• 9:02
Speaker 4: Right now? The biggest need is peurina puppy chow. I
• 9:05
Speaker 4: know last week it was dog chow. This week, I'm
• 9:07
Speaker 4: looking for puppy fish.
• 9:09
Speaker 2: All right, we have a question here for you. We
• 9:11
Speaker 2: always have a question. You're very popular. It says, I
• 9:14
Speaker 2: have several bags full of large blankets and even some
• 9:17
Speaker 2: scarves for blankets in the cat cages. I bought a
• 9:19
Speaker 2: few yard sales, but I haven't been able to watch
• 9:22
Speaker 2: several of the large comfort Is it okay to bring
• 9:24
Speaker 2: those up there? Anyway?
• 9:27
Speaker 4: Gently used is perfectly fine. They don't have to be
• 9:30
Speaker 4: freshly laundered, laundered or anything. In fact, smells from your
• 9:34
Speaker 4: home can actually provide enrichment for the animals that those
• 9:39
Speaker 4: can the blankets go into those kennels, that can provide
• 9:42
Speaker 4: enrichment like a little sniffy mat for them.
• 9:44
Speaker 2: All right, So, so basically what you're saying, they're not
• 9:46
  Speaker 2: they don't they don't smell I mean, I want to
• 9:50
Speaker 2: phrase this right. They don't smell necessarily freshly laundered, but
• 9:53
Speaker 2: they smell like a home.
• 9:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, they smell like a home. They smell like a
• 9:57
Speaker 4: you know people, They smell like a animals if you
• 10:01
Speaker 4: have that. So yeah, all those smells good or bad,
• 10:04
Speaker 4: can't provide mental stimulation for those animals.
• 10:08
Speaker 2: All right, Angie, have a good time tomorrow night. Unfortunately
• 10:11
Speaker 2: most of our radio crew won't be able to be there.
• 10:13
Speaker 2: We're going to be in Morgantown for the West Virginia
• 10:15
Speaker 2: Broadcasters Association Awards, and if we win anything, I am
• 10:17
Speaker 2: going to say that it's because of the Friday Adopt
• 10:20
Speaker 2: Me Please Pet of the Week segment, so that way
• 10:23
Speaker 2: I can give you some credit.
• 10:24
Speaker 4: Okay, Well, thank you very much, and I know that
• 10:27
Speaker 4: you guys will be with us in Spirits.
• 10:28
Speaker 2: All all right, Angie will talk to you next week.
• 10:30
Speaker 2: Maybe by that time you will have recovered from tuxes
• 10:32
  Speaker 2: and tails.
• 10:33
  Speaker 4: I sure hope.
• 10:34
Speaker 2: So all right, good luck with everything tomorrow night.
• 10:36
  Speaker 1: Kid.
• 10:36
Speaker 2: We appreciate you. Thanks a lot, Ange Gillawatercana Charleston, you
• 10:40
Speaker 2: main association with Scar. This week's Adopt Me Please Pet
• 10:43
Speaker 2: of the Week Scars around a seven year old cat
• 10:45
Speaker 2: living it up at the Petco Penhouse in Tayese Valley, Newtered, vaccinated,
• 10:50
Speaker 2: very sweet little man who loves attention. So if you're
• 10:53
Speaker 2: looking for a cat that is going to be a
• 10:56
Speaker 2: lap cat for you, it's going to follow you around.
• 10:58
Speaker 2: It's going to be with you. Scar is the pet
• 11:00
Speaker 2: for you. He's a little bit older too, and sometimes
• 11:02
Speaker 2: people don't like to take chances on older cats and dogs.
• 11:05
Speaker 2: But from what Angie was telling me last night, this
• 11:07
Speaker 2: cat is perfect. So if you've been in the in
• 11:09
Speaker 2: the market for a cat, and of course he's free
• 11:11
Speaker 2: because it's sponsored. Scar is his name, seven years old.
• 11:15
Speaker 2: He's at the pet Co Penhouse in Tayese Valley, So
• 11:17
Speaker 2: you can get more information at the website of the
• 11:20
Speaker 2: Humane Association or on their Facebook page. Just head on
• 11:23
Speaker 2: out to Taye Valley and ask for Scar the pet
• 11:26

Speaker 2: up on at our house on our back deck about
• 12:12

Speaker 2: show in five Dyeline Bright to you. Fired by Morgan
• 14:34
Speaker 2: and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. We continue our
• 14:37
Speaker 2: a series of interviews with candidates. The main primary is
• 14:41
Speaker 2: coming well, the primary should say it's coming up in May.
• 14:43
Speaker 2: Oddly enough, the May primaries in May. It's a May twelfth.
• 14:46
Speaker 2: Early voting starts on Wednesday. Welcome to the show now,
• 14:48
Speaker 2: Chase lincol Looper, who is a candidate for magistrate here
• 14:51
Speaker 2: in Kanaw County. Good morning, sir, and welcome to the show.
• 14:54
Speaker 9: Thank you for the introduction. Dave.
• 14:56
Speaker 2: All right, we to have you scooted in the microphone
• 14:58
Speaker 2: just a little bit there if you would. Okay, go ahead,
• 15:00
Speaker 2: Thank you for the introduction, Dave. All right, so give
• 15:03
Speaker 2: us your bio to just tell us about you.
• 15:05
Speaker 9: So my name is Chaselinko Looper. I am running for
• 15:09
Speaker 9: magistrate judge here in Kanaal County. I spent a decade
• 15:13
Speaker 9: in the US Army a tour in Afghanistan. I came
• 15:16
Speaker 9: home struggled with undiagnosed trauma and addiction, which eventually led
• 15:22
Speaker 9: to homelessness, and I had to claw my way out
• 15:27
Speaker 9: of that. I used Section eight and food stamp to
• 15:32
Speaker 9: help rebuild my life until I eventually got via disability
• 15:38
Speaker 9: and I started giving back to the community. What I
• 15:43
Speaker 9: wasn't living on. I put back into mutual aid and
• 15:49
Speaker 9: community defense, and it helped build a movement across the nation,
• 15:57
Speaker 9: building dual power outside of the system to help the
• 16:02
  Speaker 9: working class.
• 16:08
Speaker 2: I'm done speaking, Okay, that's that's all right, It's all good.
• 16:11
Speaker 2: So what about your background? As you said, by the way,
• 16:15
Speaker 2: thank you for your service. You talked about that and
• 16:17
Speaker 2: and the homelessness and addiction that you were here. What
• 16:19
Speaker 2: about those things did you take away from that that
• 16:23
Speaker 2: you think would make you an effective magistrate here in
• 16:25
  Speaker 2: Kanon Coounty.
• 16:27
Speaker 9: Well, my struggles taught me what a second chance looks
• 16:33
Speaker 9: like and how to help people through my struggles, I
• 16:40
Speaker 9: I learned what it you know, what it is like
• 16:43
Speaker 9: to actually be the people that go in front of
• 16:48
Speaker 9: a magistrate, the primary people that go in front of
• 16:52
Speaker 9: them are those who went through similar struggles that I
• 16:57
Speaker 9: went through. Most of these magistrates who you know, the
• 17:02
Speaker 9: people who become magistrates are ex law enforcement. They have
• 17:09
Speaker 9: a complete career in enforcement of the law, that punishment mindset.
• 17:16
Speaker 9: They have that mindset of the enforcement arm of the establishment,
• 17:25
Speaker 9: and I don't have that. I have the mindset of
• 17:29
Speaker 9: wanting to help and rehabilitate our communities rather than just
• 17:34
Speaker 9: throw them behind bars and recycle them through the system.
• 17:40
Speaker 2: I would think it brings you a unique perspective to
• 17:43
Speaker 2: have somebody because, as you said, the majority of men,
• 17:46
Speaker 2: I don't know if there's that many people that have
• 17:47
Speaker 2: a story like yours. And I would think, and I'm
• 17:50
Speaker 2: not taking anything away from those that are in office
• 17:52
Speaker 2: now or those that are running, but I would think
• 17:54
Speaker 2: that that would make you maybe a little bit more
• 17:57
Speaker 2: empathetic toward those people that are in front of you. Because,
• 17:59
Speaker 2: as you said, the great number of them are people
• 18:02
Speaker 2: that were just like you.
• 18:03
Speaker 9: Yeah, I think a lot of people who haven't experienced
• 18:06
Speaker 9: something don't understand it from the emotional aspect, so they
• 18:13
Speaker 9: either take it from an intellectual aspect where they can't
• 18:18
Speaker 9: connect to it, so they they don't they don't judge
• 18:22
Speaker 9: it based on a human degree. They base it on
• 18:31
Speaker 9: a very logistical side of things, rather than taking the
• 18:39
Speaker 9: the very basic human rights into account. This system. Just
• 18:45
Speaker 9: because things are laws doesn't make them right. You know,
• 18:48
Speaker 9: you have to make sure that when something is written,
• 18:55
Speaker 9: you have to interpret it in a way that takes
• 18:58
Speaker 9: humanity into a count rather than just taking punitive actions
• 19:04
Speaker 9: against people. And yeah, you know, the empathetic portion of
• 19:10
Speaker 9: my life, the fact that I have experienced the things
• 19:13
Speaker 9: that most of the people who come across the magistrate's
• 19:16
Speaker 9: desk have experienced, that gives me a.
• 19:21
  Speaker 2: Degree of.
• 19:25
Speaker 9: Aptitude that none of these other magistrates have.
• 19:29
Speaker 2: Again, we're talking with Chase Linkolooper, who's the candidate for
• 19:32
Speaker 2: magistrate here in Kanawha County. How much leeway though, does
• 19:37
Speaker 2: somebody if you're elected as magistrate judge, how much leeway
• 19:41
Speaker 2: do they have? I mean, because the law is the law,
• 19:44
Speaker 2: and I don't know. I'm just asking the question, how
• 19:46
Speaker 2: much leeway do they have if somebody comes before them
• 19:49
Speaker 2: and to I don't want seem drift away from the
• 19:51
  Speaker 2: law book. I don't mean that, but I mean I
• 19:53
Speaker 2: guess how much leeway do they have within the confines
• 19:55
  Speaker 2: of law?
• 19:56
Speaker 9: Well, let me say it this way.
• 19:57
  Speaker 2: Yep.
• 19:59
Speaker 9: This this system, this system has been waging war against
• 20:07
Speaker 9: the working class since the birth of this nation. You know,
• 20:13
Speaker 9: the police murder over thirteen hundred American citizens every single year.
• 20:20
Speaker 9: The US military industrial complex has over eighteen or eight
• 20:26
Speaker 9: hundred military bases across the world in over eighty countries,
• 20:32
Speaker 9: and not one foreign military base in the US. Our
• 20:38
Speaker 9: system is an empire that forces imperialism not just abroad,
• 20:45
Speaker 9: but also onto its own people. So when people come
• 20:50
Speaker 9: across my desk, I will take into consideration the fact
• 20:54
Speaker 9: that our system is abusing our people and abusing the world,
• 21:01
Speaker 9: and we need to help each other and fight for
• 21:05
Speaker 9: the people. That comes back to the movement that I founded.
• 21:09
Speaker 9: We are building dual power outside of the system. We
• 21:12
Speaker 9: are building mutual aid infrastructure, community defense infrastructure, clinics and
• 21:19
Speaker 9: networks across the nation to build power outside of the system.
• 21:24
Speaker 9: As the formal system collapses, we can replace it. That
• 21:29
Speaker 9: is dual power. We are abolitionists and I am running
• 21:34
Speaker 9: as an abolitionist magistrate. I don't believe in the formal
• 21:38
Speaker 9: system as it currently stands, although I will respect its
• 21:42
Speaker 9: laws and abide by its laws. But I believe in
• 21:47
Speaker 9: the working class. I believe in representing the common man.
• 21:51
Speaker 9: I believe in fighting for the people who are under
• 21:54
Speaker 9: represented and spat on by the system.
• 22:00
Speaker 2: You have quite a following on social media, so I'm
• 22:03
Speaker 2: hoping that that. I mean, obviously your message that you
• 22:06
Speaker 2: put out there, I mean you've got an incredible amount
• 22:09
Speaker 2: of followers on social media because I was doing a
• 22:10
Speaker 2: little homework on you, and I'm sure you're hoping that
• 22:14
Speaker 2: that translates into votes. But man, you've got you've got
• 22:17
Speaker 2: a huge following on social media.
• 22:19
Speaker 9: Yeah. I have roughly four hundred and fifty thousand followers
• 22:22
Speaker 9: across social media. My handle on most of my platforms
• 22:28
Speaker 9: is logic by link, but you can also find the movement.
• 22:33
Speaker 9: It's called fights Back, and here in West Virginia we
• 22:37
Speaker 9: are called West Virginia fights Back and we do mutual
• 22:42
Speaker 9: aid and harm reduction and we have clinics and we
• 22:45
Speaker 9: tried to do as much work as we can in
• 22:48
Speaker 9: the community and fight back against the system that aims
• 22:53
  Speaker 9: to oppress us.
• 22:54
Speaker 2: Are there other candidates like you around a different different
• 22:57
Speaker 2: positions around the state or do you? I mean, it's
• 22:59
Speaker 2: just like a an orchestrated movement where you folks are going
• 23:02
Speaker 2: out into trying to run for these offices. Are there
• 23:04
Speaker 2: others in your organization that are also running for office
• 23:06
Speaker 2: or are you the only one that is the goal
• 23:08
Speaker 2: to spread out? Okay, okay, fair enough. How's a campaign been?
• 23:11
Speaker 2: How's it gone? I noticed on your social media so
• 23:13
Speaker 2: you were knocking on some doors and things of that nature.
• 23:16
Speaker 2: So how's that gone so far?
• 23:17
Speaker 9: It's gone really well. People have been very receptive. It
• 23:22
Speaker 9: is much different from organizing. I This campaign seems to
• 23:34
Speaker 9: be proving a lot of things to me that I
• 23:39
Speaker 9: didn't necessarily realize initially. And I'm being vague, I know,
• 23:49
  Speaker 9: but I had a position in society that I didn't
• 23:54
Speaker 9: realize that I had until after running for this magical
• 23:59
Speaker 9: condition and it's becoming more apparent to me.
• 24:03
Speaker 2: Okay, you mentioned your social media, will give you a
• 24:05
Speaker 2: chance to mention it again. If people want to learn
• 24:08
Speaker 2: more about your website, social media, whatever you got mentioned
• 24:11
Speaker 2: it again, if you would please so people can followly
• 24:13
Speaker 2: they can learn more about you.
• 24:14
Speaker 9: So West Virginia fights Back is the name of the
• 24:19
Speaker 9: West Virginia chapter of the Fights Back movement, and my
• 24:26
Speaker 9: personal social media handle on at every platform is logic
• 24:34
Speaker 9: by link Okay. Final thirty is what I do with
• 24:39
Speaker 9: every candidate. I don't time it, it's your time.
• 24:41
Speaker 2: I just call it that. Why should someone vote for
• 24:43
Speaker 2: Chase Linko Looper for Conon County Magistrate?
• 24:48
Speaker 9: My name is Chase Linco Looper, and I'm the candidate
• 24:56
Speaker 9: that will fight for you and represent you as a
• 24:59
Speaker 9: work class candidate. Is a working class candidate and a
• 25:03
Speaker 9: citizen who needs that representation. That's all I happened.
• 25:08
Speaker 2: That's That's a good, good, great way to sum it up, Chase.
• 25:11
Speaker 2: I appreciate you being here. Best of luck in your campaign. Man,

Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
• 28:52
Speaker 5: Good morning. Thank you for having me on day always.
• 28:55
Speaker 2: So we all know by now, Hollis, about the new
• 28:59
Speaker 2: Kroger coming in South Charleston and the closing the one
• 29:01
Speaker 2: in Dunbar. You and others you told me are concerned
• 29:05
Speaker 2: about the closure of that Dunbar location.
• 29:07
Speaker 5: Talk about it, Yeah, before we get in there. I
• 29:10
Speaker 5: we'll be remiss if I didn't, you know, send my
• 29:12
Speaker 5: deepest condolencence to the families who suffered loss and injury
• 29:16
Speaker 5: and that nitro chemical spill. So you just know our
• 29:19
Speaker 5: present our thoughts are with you. At this time. We
• 29:23
Speaker 5: have like a sort of a bipartisan coalition of state senators, delegates,
• 29:29
Speaker 5: and local city officials who are trying to, you know,
• 29:34
Speaker 5: do something about what's going on with the Kroger's. Obviously,
• 29:37
Speaker 5: you know the marketplace that's going to be erected in
• 29:40
Speaker 5: or currently is erected in South Charleston. Will we good
• 29:42
Speaker 5: for our era area overall, But what's happening is that
• 29:47
Speaker 5: that Kroger's leaving Dunbar is not only going to have
• 29:50
Speaker 5: a leave a gap of services as far as groceries
• 29:54
Speaker 5: and whatnot as far as you know the community is concerned,
• 29:57
Speaker 5: but it's also going to have an effect on on
• 30:00
Speaker 5: the city's being O tax at the tune of close
• 30:03
  Speaker 5: to a million dollars. So it's a it's a big
• 30:06
Speaker 5: problem that we're just trying to figure out how we
• 30:08
Speaker 5: can get another service or business in that location.
• 30:11
Speaker 2: It's going to be hard to get another business in
• 30:13
Speaker 2: that location, Delegate, as you all know, it's going to
• 30:16
Speaker 2: be able to bring a million dollars in ben O taxes.
• 30:20
Speaker 5: Yeah it is, and like I said, even and again
• 30:23
Speaker 5: close to a million. But you know, that program actually
• 30:27
Speaker 5: services not only like I said, the area that you know,
• 30:30
Speaker 5: particularly our elderly community, it's also a driver for other
• 30:34
Speaker 5: businesses within that plaza. So it's a big laws. So
• 30:38
Speaker 5: we have to figure out, you know, whether that can
• 30:41
Speaker 5: be a you know, a dollar general market, whether that
• 30:44
Speaker 5: can be you know, a local grocer or whomever. So
• 30:47
Speaker 5: that that's kind of what we're doing. In addition to
• 30:50
Speaker 5: you know, the politicians involved, we're working diligent lead with
• 30:53
Speaker 5: MARA and the Charleston Area Alliance in order to try
• 30:56
Speaker 5: to figure out a plan that's one of the best
• 30:58
  Speaker 5: suit that community.
• 30:59
Speaker 2: And we want to make sure people realize how let's
• 31:02
Speaker 2: not to put words in your mouth, but you're not
• 31:04
Speaker 2: speaking negatively about the new store in South Charleston, because
• 31:07
Speaker 2: that's going to benefit as well, But you're more concerned
• 31:09
Speaker 2: about the loss of the current store as opposed to
• 31:11
Speaker 2: being against the new one.
• 31:12
Speaker 5: Right, oh, one hundred percent. You know, I spoke to
• 31:15
Speaker 5: Mayor Mullins yesterday and you know, like I said, I
• 31:19
Speaker 5: do my grocery shopping at Crows. As far as they have.
• 31:22
Speaker 5: I feel like the superior quality of food and the
• 31:25
Speaker 5: marketplaces the similar ones is going to be on Ohio.
• 31:28
Speaker 5: I think it's due that we have something like that
• 31:30
Speaker 5: in West Virginia. And from what I understand, this is
• 31:33
Speaker 5: actually going to be like sort of their last marketplace
• 31:35
Speaker 5: at least in the interim. So, like I said, I
• 31:39
Speaker 5: support that that's in my district as well. But I
• 31:41
Speaker 5: am concerned about, you know, primarily what is going on
• 31:44
Speaker 5: in Dunbar and how we can you know, not only
• 31:47
Speaker 5: service our citizens but also service our larger community.

• 32:02
Speaker 2: You mentioned the Charlestonnary Alliance involved in this, you and
• 32:05
Speaker 2: some other political figures. Who else is involved? Unnecessarily names,
• 32:08
Speaker 2: but just from what walks of life are the other
• 32:10
Speaker 2: people coming from that are working with you, delegate on
• 32:13
  Speaker 2: this particular project.
• 32:15
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, like I said, we have you know, delegates obviously,
• 32:19
Speaker 5: we have some state senators. We have like I mentioned,
• 32:22
Speaker 5: the Charleston Area Alliance, we have some city council folks,
• 32:25
Speaker 5: city council staff obviously, the mayor of Dunbar, Mayor Elliott,
• 32:29
Speaker 5: and we also have reached out to you know, Senator
• 32:32
Speaker 5: Capitol's office to see how we can uh you know,
• 32:35
Speaker 5: work in order to try to you know, talk to
• 32:39
Speaker 5: the Krogress folks talk to the to the leasehold and
• 32:41
Speaker 5: to see what is the best path in order to
• 32:44
Speaker 5: get some Particularly, we would love a grocery in that spot.
• 32:47
Speaker 5: That's kind of what we need. But if not a grocery,
• 32:49
Speaker 5: what other services or business come and fill that gap.
• 32:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot of people at the next step. Yeah,
• 32:55
Speaker 2: there's a lot of people that are also And I
• 32:56
Speaker 2: got a text I want to read to you. Hear
• 32:57
Speaker 2: from somebody about the Dunbar Bridge, but that that that
• 33:00
Speaker 2: situation is also causing a little headache over there in
• 33:03
Speaker 2: Dunbar with a lot of people that you mentioned, Mary
• 33:06
Speaker 2: Elliott and others have said, Look, we have a lot
• 33:08
Speaker 2: of people that don't drive and that they walk to
• 33:11
Speaker 2: these locations and the loss of the Dunbar Bridge is
• 33:15
Speaker 2: problematic as well. Matter of fact, I'll go ahead and
• 33:16
Speaker 2: read you the text. It says, what are the plans
• 33:18
Speaker 2: for the new Dunbar bridge? Are there plans to build
• 33:21
Speaker 2: a new one toward Charleston which would put it on
• 33:24
Speaker 2: the soon to be closed Kroger, and the Texas says
• 33:27
Speaker 2: I think whatever happens with the bridge will play a
• 33:29
Speaker 2: large part on what happens to the Kroger. Any news
• 33:31
Speaker 2: on the bridge over there.
• 33:33
Speaker 5: I don't have any news specifically, although from line is standing,
• 33:37
Speaker 5: there is going to be a new bridge erect that
• 33:39
Speaker 5: they're going to turn down that one. And again is
• 33:42
Speaker 5: that going to be in the same spot. I am
• 33:44
Speaker 5: not sure, So I don't want to speak out of
• 33:46
Speaker 5: turn on that. But just to go back to as
• 33:49
Speaker 5: far as the Krogres's situation, again, we have an elderly
• 33:53
Speaker 5: community right across the street. So if you're ever in Dumbar,
• 33:57
Speaker 5: you spend any time in Dumbar, you'll see a lot
• 33:59
Speaker 5: of individuals walking back and forth from that Kroger's crossing
• 34:02
Speaker 5: a crossing that street in which the bridge is on. So,
• 34:05
Speaker 5: like I said, it is a situation. And again we
• 34:08
Speaker 5: have all these there. We have a Dollar General, we
• 34:11
Speaker 5: have the Walgreens there. However, they just don't provide the
• 34:15
Speaker 5: totality and holistic services that are Krogers will provide as
• 34:18
Speaker 5: far as because you know when we talk about Kroger's
• 34:20
Speaker 5: cleaning products, groceries, but you can also do bill play,
• 34:24
Speaker 5: lottery and different things of that nature.
• 34:26
Speaker 2: Indeed, Uh, if people are interested in getting involved, you know,
• 34:30
Speaker 2: you said that you're working with some political folks. Charles,
• 34:32
Speaker 2: your alliance, the different city councils, whatever. If people are
• 34:35
Speaker 2: interested or to learn more information, what do they need
• 34:37
Speaker 2: to do. We got residents to listen to his Hollis
• 34:39
Speaker 2: and say, look, I want to get I want to
• 34:41
Speaker 2: get in on this, I want to get behind this howl.
• 34:43
Speaker 2: Did they reach out to you? I mean, what's the
• 34:45
Speaker 2: best thing to do?
• 34:47
Speaker 5: You can always reach out to me individually. You can
• 34:49
Speaker 5: go to my whether social media, or you can go
• 34:51
Speaker 5: to get email me at info at Hollis Lewis the
• 34:56

• 35:00
Speaker 5: info at Hollis Lewis for WV dot com. And I
• 35:03
Speaker 5: would also encourage individuals to go to the city council
• 35:06
Speaker 5: meetings to figure out how they can you know, partner
• 35:09
Speaker 5: with their specific councilpersons in their award, whether that's you know,
• 35:14
Speaker 5: and we'll as we formulate a plan. Again we're trying
• 35:17
Speaker 5: to do you know, We're trying to you know, we're
• 35:21
Speaker 5: trying to work the plan the best we can. And
• 35:23
Speaker 5: then once we have a little bit more information about
• 35:26
Speaker 5: a specific direction, we would delineate that and figure out
• 35:30
Speaker 5: how you know, citizens can get involved.

• 46:29
  Speaker 9: Ryan.
• 46:29
Speaker 2: If you could just give me that bag of potato chips,
• 46:31
Speaker 2: I'd probably feel better. But I feel fine. I mean,
• 46:37
Speaker 2: I really really do. The treatments don't make me feel
• 46:40
Speaker 2: bad at all. I go big shout out to folks
• 46:42
Speaker 2: at the c AMC Cancer Center. I literally go across
• 46:45
Speaker 2: the bridge to Kanas City Tuesdays and Thursdays, lay on
• 46:49
Speaker 2: a table and they do zap me with something or whatever.
• 46:56
Speaker 2: And the fifteen twenty minutes later, I am up and
• 46:59
Speaker 2: I'm headed back to eleven eleven Virginia Street. The only
• 47:02
Speaker 2: the only ill effect that I've had from any of
• 47:04
Speaker 2: this is and this just happened a couple of nights ago,
• 47:08
Speaker 2: and I'm talked about this on the Midday show. My
• 47:11
Speaker 2: legs aren't working very well. And I had every intention,
• 47:14
Speaker 2: as I said yesterday, I had every intention of starting
• 47:17
Speaker 2: to run marathons. But now that's out the window. I
• 47:21
Speaker 2: can't do that apparently. Now it's just not hurting, just
• 47:23
Speaker 2: a little bit weak, for lack of a better term.
• 47:27
Speaker 2: So anyway, that's all, and that's all I got. Because
• 47:30
Speaker 2: people tell me, oh, you're gonna have hot flashes and
• 47:32
Speaker 2: you're gonna, you know, have things going on that you
• 47:36
Speaker 2: can't talk about on the radio. None of that has happened.
• 47:38
Speaker 2: Absolutely none of it so far, so far, but I
• 47:40
Speaker 2: got some more treatments to go. But again, thank you
• 47:42
Speaker 2: for Deal Cooper and everybody for stepping up to the
• 47:44
Speaker 2: plate for me. I will not be on the local
• 47:47
Speaker 2: show Tuesday or Thursday next week, but I will be
• 47:50
Speaker 2: on Midday and hopefully get this thing wrapped up. Yeah,
• 48:00
Speaker 2: I mean the candidate that I had on earlier did
• 48:04
Speaker 2: evoke some emotions from some people, and I don't.
• 48:11
  Speaker 5: I don't.
• 48:11
Speaker 2: I don't know that we need to spend any more
• 48:13
Speaker 2: time with that. I'll be honest with you. I mean, yeah,
• 48:16
Speaker 2: a good interview. He said what he stands for, and
• 48:20
Speaker 2: that's what that's what the whole concept to meet the
• 48:22
Speaker 2: candidate's thing is all about. So so on, Just so
• 48:26
Speaker 2: you'll be warned on Monday, the lineup for the Charleston
• 48:31
Speaker 2: cern Wild Regatta is said to be released Monday morning
• 48:34
Speaker 2: at around ten thirty. And I want to go ahead now,
• 48:38
Speaker 2: and I am going to say, let's go ahead and
• 48:41
Speaker 2: queue up the people online complaining about free entertainment, and
• 48:48
Speaker 2: let me go ahead and tell you now, just so
• 48:52
Speaker 2: you'll know what your social media feed is going to
• 48:56
Speaker 2: look like. Let's say, come ten forty five, I have eleven.
• 49:00
Speaker 2: Certainly by noon on Monday, you're gonna read things like
• 49:06
Speaker 2: they ain't got nobody good or who's that or never
• 49:11
Speaker 2: heard of them? And then conversely trashing the regatta, the mayor,
• 49:17
Speaker 2: the City of Charleston, anybody else involved because because they
• 49:22
Speaker 2: don't like the choice of free entertainment. And I've never, ever, ever,
• 49:28
Speaker 2: and I've talked about it for years, I have never
• 49:30
Speaker 2: understood that argument that people don't like the choice of
• 49:36
Speaker 2: free entertainment. Did I say the words free entertainment enough? Oh,
• 49:41
Speaker 2: by the way, it's free. And while certainly everyone is
• 49:46
Speaker 2: entitled to their opinion, I don't know why people feel
• 49:50
Speaker 2: the need to waste the time of trashing everybody involved
• 49:54
Speaker 2: with the regatta because you don't like the, oh, by
• 49:57
Speaker 2: the way, free entertainment. So I have no idea who
• 50:01
Speaker 2: they're going to book. I know that the Regatta committee
• 50:05
  Speaker 2: does a great job. There's a lot. I have booked
• 50:07
Speaker 2: concerts in the past myself with my company. I have
• 50:11
Speaker 2: never done anything like a regatta. I can tell you
• 50:13
Speaker 2: that I have done some smaller festivals where my company
• 50:16
Speaker 2: was hired to get the entertainment. It is not easy.
• 50:20
Speaker 2: You have to get people on their schedules and whomever.
• 50:24
Speaker 2: And I'm so out of it when it comes to
• 50:25
Speaker 2: modern music right now. I can't even sound intelligent enough
• 50:28
Speaker 2: if I drop a name right now to say, you know,
• 50:32
Speaker 2: I mean, I know in the country charts, I know,
• 50:34
Speaker 2: you know, people love Morgan Walla and people have. That's
• 50:37
Speaker 2: not happening at a free concert in Charleston, West Virginia.
• 50:41
Speaker 2: It's simply not gonna happen. So what the Regatta Committee
• 50:44
Speaker 2: does is they try to get something for different tastes.
• 50:47
Speaker 2: You know, they'll be something with a country vibe, something
• 50:51
Speaker 2: with a rock vibe, something with a pop vibe, something
• 50:54
Speaker 2: with maybe a little R and B or hip hop
• 50:55
Speaker 2: or something like that. Because newsflash, you ain't the only
• 50:58
Speaker 2: one here. So just saying, just saying, that's what your
• 51:04
Speaker 2: timeline is going to look like. People on Monday come
• 51:06
Speaker 2: ten forty five, eleven eleven thirty complaining about free entertainment, Uh, Texas,
• 51:14
Speaker 2: I don't even know the god to line up and
• 51:16
Speaker 2: it already sucks. My opinion is valid despite it being
• 51:19
Speaker 2: based on nothing. I pay good money for free entertainment.
• 51:23
Speaker 2: Text of the day right there, meadows Text to the
• 51:25
  Speaker 2: day right there.
• 51:26
Speaker 15: You know, if you don't like something, become part of
• 51:29
Speaker 15: the effort to fix it. And it's my experience with
• 51:31
Speaker 15: these kinds of things. People complain, but they don't want
• 51:34
Speaker 15: to do anything. They don't want to put their time
• 51:36
Speaker 15: to make it better. They certainly don't want to put
• 51:38
Speaker 15: their treasure into it to be able to afford a
• 51:41
Speaker 15: better act. Because I have to tell you I've been
• 51:43
Speaker 15: in that business a little bit too. You want somebody
• 51:45
Speaker 15: that's on the current charts today, you're gonna play what
• 51:49
Speaker 15: millions of dollars? Well your costs to get them there?
• 51:51
Speaker 2: You are, at least on the entertainment alone, just on
• 51:55
Speaker 2: I mean you're talking too, fifty three hundred thousand dollars easy,
• 51:59
Speaker 2: just on the it's not counting in the state and
• 52:02
Speaker 2: everything else you're into.
• 52:03
Speaker 15: Yeah, so you know know what you're talking about before
• 52:05
  Speaker 15: you talk about.
• 52:05
Speaker 2: I had a texture from somebody wanted to know Tony
• 52:07
Speaker 2: the Taylor could fill in for me on my days off. No,
• 52:11
Speaker 2: because there's a thing called the FCC. All right, So
• 52:14
Speaker 2: so what you got on your and your little shin
• 52:16
Speaker 2: dig today, it's the light of the day.
