- 0:00Speaker 1: The audio of Roseman responding to the article Let's play
- 0:03Speaker 1: that one more time.
- 0:05Speaker 2: We have some faults. One of them is not being
- 0:09Speaker 2: direct and honest with our players and the conversations with
- 0:12Speaker 2: our players. So for us, if we have any issue
- 0:15Speaker 2: with any of our players, we talk to them directly.
- 0:20Speaker 2: So you know, from my perspective, from Nick's perspective, from
- 0:23Speaker 2: Jeffrey's perspective, you know we're not hiding behind anything. You know,
- 0:28Speaker 2: we will talk to our players directly. I think that
- 0:32Speaker 2: it's unfair. It's unfair to have these articles written, but
- 0:36Speaker 2: I understand it's also what sells at this point, So yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 2: I think it's unfortunately.
- 0:43Speaker 3: All right.
- 0:43Speaker 1: That was Hallie Roseman yesterday. We talked about it with
- 0:45Speaker 1: Jeff yesterday. He is back for football at four today.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Now as I heard this yesterday, Jeff and we talked
- 0:51Speaker 1: about it a little bit. He used the word unfair
- 0:54Speaker 1: regarding the reports on Jalen Hurts, and he said he
- 0:57Speaker 1: doesn't hide the team, doesn't hide behind anything. So he
- 1:01Speaker 1: is the frustration that his answer directed at the accuracy
- 1:04Speaker 1: of the reporting, or is he frustrated that the dirty
- 1:09Speaker 1: laundry is being aired out publicly because none of that
- 1:13Speaker 1: was him supporting his quarterback as I heard it.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah, And I don't know, I don't know if he was.
- 1:19Speaker 3: This was like at the tail end of the press conference,
- 1:22Speaker 3: so correct.
- 1:24Speaker 1: So I'm glad you brought that up, because, as I
- 1:26Speaker 1: said yesterday, he talked the Flyers win, the Phillies got there,
- 1:29Speaker 1: you know, like this kind of gets lost in the
- 1:31Speaker 1: sauce a little, but you're just kind of playing it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And then when I read the transcript, it did read
- 1:37Speaker 1: a little differently.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, and I thought, you know, it just you know,
- 1:42Speaker 3: because you're just searching for things that we don't know here.
- 1:45Speaker 3: You know, he had made it through the whole press
- 1:47Speaker 3: conference without being asked about it. I don't know if
- 1:50Speaker 3: his mind got taken to other areas of pre draft
- 1:53Speaker 3: questions because that his answer didn't sound like the typically
- 1:58Speaker 3: rehearsed answer you might get from him on a question
- 2:01Speaker 3: like that, and it seemed to catch him in between
- 2:04Speaker 3: as we talked about yesterday, trying to make sure that
- 2:10Speaker 3: he he articulated a point of any denial that the
- 2:14Speaker 3: team had anything to do with this right by saying
- 2:16Speaker 3: that they have good conversations with their players, they don't
- 2:19Speaker 3: need to go through the media, but then also not
- 2:24Speaker 3: not really going overboard to say anything other than that
- 2:29Speaker 3: was unfortunate and sad, not really defect. Sometimes he'll go overboard.
- 2:32Speaker 3: He'll he'll defend the character, he'll talk about this, and
- 2:35Speaker 3: he didn't do that. But I don't I don't also
- 2:37Speaker 3: know what to make of that, Mike. I don't sit
- 2:39Speaker 3: here and think that that's some kind of incrimination of
- 2:42Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts or some kind of you know, proving of
- 2:45Speaker 3: all the things that are said about him to be true.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Which I'm not saying that the story is wrong. I've
- 2:50Speaker 3: we've reported a lot of it too. I'm just saying
- 2:52Speaker 3: his reaction to me is being a little bit overparsed right.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Now, right, So Yeah, That's why I was like, as
- 2:59Speaker 1: I heard this and read this, sounds like, is he
- 3:00Speaker 1: frustrated at the accuracy of the reporting. Is he's suggesting
- 3:03Speaker 1: that it's not right but this is what sells papers?
- 3:06Speaker 1: Or is he frustrated that somebody in their foxhole is
- 3:09Speaker 1: letting somebody out something out?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if he I mean,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I don't think he's frustrated. I think they're right now.
- 3:17Speaker 3: They're just focused on the draft, I think then they
- 3:19Speaker 3: I think, how he's pretty having gone through it himself,
- 3:22Speaker 3: uh many times, is pretty aware of what this market
- 3:26Speaker 3: is like and what's the accountability that the media holds
- 3:31Speaker 3: the team and the players. And you know, he's been
- 3:33Speaker 3: through the ringer many times himself, So I don't I
- 3:36Speaker 3: don't know that he looks at one of his players
- 3:38Speaker 3: going through it as anything differently than what he went
- 3:41Speaker 3: through as and less of just that's part of playing
- 3:44Speaker 3: in Philadelphia.
- 3:46Speaker 1: All right, Bosha, we talked a little bit about Wix yesterday,
- 3:48Speaker 1: both Sirianni and Howie. You talked about his ability to
- 3:52Speaker 1: separate at the top of routes, his toughness. So how
- 3:56Speaker 1: much of this do you think is a reflection of
- 3:58Speaker 1: how much voice Sean mannon the influence he has now
- 4:04Speaker 1: on this offense.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Well, you know, one thing I told you yesterday that
- 4:08Speaker 3: we had heard and reported was that Howie Roseman was
- 4:11Speaker 3: a fan of Dontavian Wicks going back to his college days.
- 4:15Speaker 3: And so this is I don't think I mentioned this yesterday,
- 4:19Speaker 3: but I wanted to. If you go, look, there's a
- 4:21Speaker 3: lot of players that Howie either brings in for a
- 4:25Speaker 3: visit the team brings in for a visit or shows
- 4:28Speaker 3: interest in that they're not able to draft that somehow
- 4:31Speaker 3: wind up becoming Eagles later down the line. You know,
- 4:34Speaker 3: Arnold E. Wickhetty is a really good example of that.
- 4:37Speaker 3: He was in for a thirty visit, and Dory Jackson
- 4:40Speaker 3: was a player they liked and you know, looked at
- 4:42Speaker 3: in free agency a couple of years ago. He wound
- 4:44Speaker 3: up becoming an Eagle. So I think it's more of
- 4:47Speaker 3: the case that when Howie has an interest in a
- 4:49Speaker 3: player and has the opportunity to get him, he'll make
- 4:53Speaker 3: that move as long as it, you know, fits with
- 4:55Speaker 3: their plans and what they want to do. Does it
- 4:58Speaker 3: illustrate any power that Sean Mann he might have. I
- 5:01Speaker 3: don't think so, you know. I mean, of course, I
- 5:03Speaker 3: think how He's done this long enough to know that
- 5:05Speaker 3: it really helps a new offensive coordinator adapt to a
- 5:08Speaker 3: scheme by having some players who are familiar with it.
- 5:11Speaker 3: That's why Johnny Muntz here, even though he didn't play
- 5:13Speaker 3: for the Packers, he played for similar offenses in Minnesota
- 5:17Speaker 3: and Jacksonville. And that wouldn't surprise me if they, you know,
- 5:20Speaker 3: continue to try to get guys who have played in
- 5:23Speaker 3: that scheme before.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Moosha was look at a draft a little bit here.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I thought this was an interesting one. Reading the transcript
- 5:29Speaker 1: last night, Howie said he admits that he thinks about
- 5:33Speaker 1: his first round misses every day and overcompensates when looking
- 5:39Speaker 1: at similar prospects. I wonder for you, what do you
- 5:42Speaker 1: think it was, because we've had conversations plenty of times
- 5:46Speaker 1: over the years about their failures in the draft that
- 5:49Speaker 1: they have overcome that. Where do you think and what
- 5:52Speaker 1: do you think was what happened that have changed this
- 5:57Speaker 1: Eagles organization. You talked about twenty twenty, they had a
- 5:59Speaker 1: terrible draft other than hers, When and how did it
- 6:03Speaker 1: all kind of change for them that we now kind
- 6:05Speaker 1: of feel it's almost a FATA complay that he's gonna
- 6:07Speaker 1: find town in the draft.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Hmmm, that's a good question. I don't know if there's
- 6:14Speaker 3: any one date or thing. I think that you have
- 6:17Speaker 3: to look at the the bad first round picks, and
- 6:20Speaker 3: there aren't a ton, But the ones that really stand
- 6:22Speaker 3: out are obviously Jellen Rager, obviously Andre Dillard and Marcus Smith,
- 6:29Speaker 3: you know, and they were all drafted. I guess the
- 6:32Speaker 3: similar or the common bond to that mic was that
- 6:35Speaker 3: they were reached for a for a reason. You know,
- 6:39Speaker 3: if you go back to Marcus Smith, the story as
- 6:42Speaker 3: it goes, there were about six guys that how he
- 6:44Speaker 3: thought he was going to get and one of them
- 6:45Speaker 3: was going to fall and it didn't. And then New
- 6:47Speaker 3: Orleans traded up to get Brandon Cooks, and that really
- 6:51Speaker 3: that really messed messed up the Eagles plans. And I
- 6:54Speaker 3: think maybe they're okay. So that's a good example. They're
- 6:57Speaker 3: how we learned that you just can't expect somebody to
- 7:01Speaker 3: fall if you really want somebody. I mean, why did
- 7:03Speaker 3: they trade up just one spot to get Jill and
- 7:06Speaker 3: Carter a couple of years ago because of that, right?
- 7:09Speaker 3: Why did they trade up one spot with Kansas City
- 7:12Speaker 3: last year? I think it was one spot right to
- 7:14Speaker 3: get johat Campbell because you just never know who is
- 7:18Speaker 3: lurking around the corner trying to trade with that same
- 7:21Speaker 3: team into that spot. So I think what he's learned,
- 7:25Speaker 3: and we've seen this a lot, is how he has
- 7:27Speaker 3: become very aggressive in moving up and down the draft,
- 7:30Speaker 3: but especially up to get the guys he wants. He
- 7:33Speaker 3: moved up with a division rival, the Commanders to go
- 7:37Speaker 3: get Cooper to gen in the second round a couple
- 7:41Speaker 3: of years ago. As far as the process though and
- 7:44Speaker 3: how they evaluate players, I don't think that was the issue.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I just think that with Marcus Smith they panicked because
- 7:51Speaker 3: they lost all their guys. With Rager, I mean, that
- 7:57Speaker 3: was clearly how we listening to the coaching staff, I
- 8:00Speaker 3: wanted speed, and how he wanted speed ahead of the
- 8:05Speaker 3: best available player, which clearly was was justin Jefferson. They
- 8:10Speaker 3: made he made him. He made a lot of mistakes
- 8:11Speaker 3: in that draft, in particular. You know Davion Taylor round
- 8:14Speaker 3: three and Kevon Wallace around four, two.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Days in a row on the show, Davion Taylor's got
- 8:20Speaker 1: to mention that kind of.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Yeah, we bring that up all. I mean, and because
- 8:23Speaker 3: that was such an egregious pick, like that guy that
- 8:27Speaker 3: wasn't like you drafted a guy who should have been
- 8:30Speaker 3: a fourth or a fifth round or in the third round.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I mean, Adam and I have people telling us that
- 8:34Speaker 3: guy had priority rookie free agent great on him, like undraftable,
- 8:39Speaker 3: hadn't played enough football, didn't know what he was doing,
- 8:41Speaker 3: was just an at Like to get him in the
- 8:43Speaker 3: third round was really a big, big, misstep.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he had like not played right, He had not
- 8:50Speaker 1: played a lot of you know, he couldn't play Friday
- 8:52Speaker 1: nights or sat right.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Because the religious purposes and everything. I mean, it was
- 8:57Speaker 3: it was a real you look back now and say uncharacteristic,
- 9:01Speaker 3: but that draft was not good. The only person that
- 9:04Speaker 3: saves it, obviously was was Jalen Hurts. Yeah, saves it
- 9:07Speaker 3: in a big way. But yeah, so Mark, So wait, wait,
- 9:10Speaker 3: Marcus Smith. Who's the other one? Marcus Smith? Jefferson? And
- 9:15Speaker 3: who am I missing on the first round misses?
- 9:18Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know if well, DK Metcalfe didn't
- 9:20Speaker 1: get drafted in the first round, but they took jj
- 9:23Speaker 1: Arthega Whiteside ahead of him, and but I think DK
- 9:26Speaker 1: was on a medical don't draft list.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and then that's where also I think maybe you know,
- 9:30Speaker 3: analytics not getting all of the love as they were
- 9:36Speaker 3: at one point. I mean, analytics loved j j Arthega
- 9:39Speaker 3: Whiteside didn't work out for him, Analytics loved Davion Taylor's
- 9:42Speaker 3: athleticism didn't work out for him. So I mean, I
- 9:46Speaker 3: think how he's been more by the tape lately and
- 9:50Speaker 3: making sure the athletic testing matches the tape.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I know you gotta get out of here. I want
- 9:55Speaker 1: to get one more in real quick. Roseman admitted yesterday
- 9:58Speaker 1: that the safety position is not full, but he won't
- 10:02Speaker 1: force a pick. But him saying the safety position not fall,
- 10:04Speaker 1: I thought that was definitely interesting because you know that
- 10:08Speaker 1: will leave the door open for do you play Cooper
- 10:11Speaker 1: dejen or do you have to get somebody else? Is
- 10:14Speaker 1: there somebody out there you're looking around. One man's trash
- 10:18Speaker 1: is another man's treasure. What do you make of that
- 10:20Speaker 1: not full? That they don't want EPs in Macuba to
- 10:23Speaker 1: be their starters, it sounds like right, or they just
- 10:25Speaker 1: be for depth.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Well, they clearly don't want those to be their starters.
- 10:29Speaker 3: They want mccouba and a starting caliber player, and that's
- 10:33Speaker 3: why they're going to continue to look at the position,
- 10:35Speaker 3: whether it is the draft, whether it is the trade.
- 10:38Speaker 3: So I liked you know, I'm always about balance, right.
- 10:40Speaker 3: I like to remind people of two things. One, the
- 10:43Speaker 3: Eagles got themselves a heck of a safety in twenty
- 10:46Speaker 3: twenty two, about two weeks before the season began, when
- 10:49Speaker 3: they traded for CJ. Gardner Johnson because they were looking
- 10:52Speaker 3: at going into the year with their safeties being Marcus
- 10:57Speaker 3: Epps and I for yet who oh Anthony Harris, Anthony Harris,
- 11:02Speaker 3: and literally they released Anthony Harris like the next day, right,
- 11:06Speaker 3: he was the number one, say, our first team safety
- 11:08Speaker 3: all throughout camp and then they trade for CJ. Gardner Johnson.
- 11:11Speaker 3: So that's an example of how there's plenty of time.
- 11:14Speaker 3: But I also do like to remind people that they
- 11:16Speaker 3: went into the twenty twenty three season after they didn't
- 11:20Speaker 3: retain c J. Gardner Johnson with Terrell Edmonds and Justin
- 11:24Speaker 3: Evans as their options to start at safety, which was
- 11:28Speaker 3: an abject and absolute disaster. So I can't you know,
- 11:33Speaker 3: I don't know where how he's at here. Hopefully he's
- 11:35Speaker 3: more on the side of getting a player, like a
- 11:38Speaker 3: starting caliber player than thinking he could fill a hole
- 11:40Speaker 3: like Terrell Edmonds.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff, most we all have plenty We'll do
- 11:44Speaker 1: some draft mailbag stuff leading up to the draft for
- 11:47Speaker 1: the listeners. I know a lot of people have been
- 11:49Speaker 1: sending questions and I haven't got a chance to put
- 11:51Speaker 1: them all together, but we'll start compiling that for the
- 11:54Speaker 1: guys football at four Andrews here tomorrow. Mosh enjoy the
- 11:57Speaker 1: rest of the week.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Man.
- 11:58Speaker 1: By the way, would you have hit mar or Boom
- 12:01Speaker 1: last night?
- 12:03Speaker 3: I would have who who did Boom pinch it for Marsh?
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 12:07Speaker 3: No, I would have. I would have kept marshan I
- 12:09Speaker 3: I did. There's no way I'm bringing in an ice
- 12:12Speaker 3: cold Alec Bohm just because he's right handed, Like, what
- 12:15Speaker 3: what is the use of a right handed hitter who's
- 12:17Speaker 3: not hitting? I don't understand that. Yeah, listen to me.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Well, Marsh obviously has had his struggles against lefties, you know, Yeah, but.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I mean the guy's not ice cold end on the bench.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Like.
- 12:29Speaker 1: The funny part is Bom had a hit in his
- 12:31Speaker 1: last at bat the game before, and then he got
- 12:33Speaker 1: and then he's they sat him yesterday. I was like, well,
- 12:35Speaker 1: he finally got a hit. Now you're sitting them.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Yeah. And by the way, Alec Bohm looked like he
- 12:39Speaker 3: was trying to hit the he's on home run and.
- 12:42Speaker 1: He's he's been terrible. Hey, but listen, if you're going
- 12:45Speaker 1: off their resumes, Bom has hit lefties significantly better than
- 12:49Speaker 1: Marsh has.
- 12:50Speaker 3: I agree, but that I think that in this situation.
- 12:53Speaker 3: I mean, that's like saying, well, Boom's a career like
- 12:56Speaker 3: two eighty five hitter, but right now he's batting like
- 12:58Speaker 3: a newspaper weight, So I don't want him hitting against
- 13:00Speaker 3: anybody at this point.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I agree with that Bom has been terrible. I just
- 13:04Speaker 1: look at it as you know, people like Marsh, they
- 13:07Speaker 1: don't like Bom.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, I think the biggest takeaway before I get
- 13:12Speaker 3: out of here is that when Boom and Otto Kemp
- 13:15Speaker 3: are your best options on the bench and Marsh is
- 13:19Speaker 3: your best option in the lineup currently, it's just not
- 13:22Speaker 3: a great against the left hander.
- 13:23Speaker 1: It's not That's what I say. When you have to
- 13:25Speaker 1: debate hitting for your fifth hitter in the lineup, your
- 13:28Speaker 1: team is not good enough.
- 13:30Speaker 3: I believe that's why the phrase pick your poison was invented.
- 13:33Speaker 1: There absolutely Jeff Boscher football for everybody.
