- 0:40Speaker 3: Well, order has been restored. I'm gonna try to do
- 0:43Speaker 3: these little Paul twists on them. First, Paul twelve and four,
- 0:47Speaker 3: Oh boy. Second, Deuce thirteen and three. Nice week four.
- 0:52Speaker 1: No, wait a minute, you said Paul was twelve and four.
- 0:54Speaker 1: You were thirteen and three.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Paul really does this nice by the way. I mean,
- 0:57Speaker 3: it's just, you know, it's all laid out for me,
- 1:00Speaker 3: and he's.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Been doing it since he was four years old making book.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Bob Marine walking out with his sick kid. It wasn't
- 1:06Speaker 4: like funny, obviously, but it was you.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Just pointed out a loser.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Fun Dad's gonna work the k balls and the and
- 1:14Speaker 4: the game balls are separate. They're separate ball right, each
- 1:16Speaker 4: team brings their own balls. Yes, this is too many
- 1:19Speaker 4: references to.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Balls Evan one, four and ninety. Uh oh wait, sorry, Deuce, Deuce?
- 1:26Speaker 3: Is that messing this up so bad?

- 1:37Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:40Speaker 1: at Jillette Stadium, and I hope everyone had a good Christmas,
- 1:43Speaker 1: those who celebrate yesterday. And we're back here after a
- 1:48Speaker 1: big win. I don't know if wins these days are big,
- 1:51Speaker 1: but a really cool win in Denver Chad Ryland with
- 1:55Speaker 1: the fifty seven yard game game winner.
- 1:59Speaker 6: That was it was great fifty six.
- 2:02Speaker 3: It was a long fifty six, though it was good.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It was good.
- 2:06Speaker 4: In five years, it'll be sixty.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So we talk about that, talk about what else is
- 2:12Speaker 1: going on in the NFL, some interesting outcomes over the weekend. Uh,
- 2:18Speaker 1: And then of course looking ahead to the Bills this weekend,
- 2:22Speaker 1: see if we can do damage to their playoff hopes.
- 2:24Speaker 6: Yes, spoiler, yes, we're spoiling it.
- 2:28Speaker 1: It's deuced at seven. It's Paul, it's me. It's faith
- 2:31Speaker 1: in the broadcast booth because, uh, Matt morel is.
- 2:35Speaker 6: This morning the way out. It's not good.
- 2:37Speaker 3: He was here again this morning.
- 2:39Speaker 6: He was in this morning.
- 2:40Speaker 3: He was sick.
- 2:41Speaker 6: He did not look good.
- 2:42Speaker 7: Yeah, but he's yeah, he's just touching all our microphones.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Things are coming out of every hole in his body.
- 2:48Speaker 6: He had his he had his head down, and I
- 2:49Speaker 6: was sort of making fun of my I go, it's
- 2:51Speaker 6: Maggie too good to talk to me. Hey, you knows bro,
- 2:55Speaker 6: bro no, no, no worries.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Now hopefully his kids are right.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, kid was sick. He's sick. Unrelated, but they're
- 3:02Speaker 1: both sick. So faith is filling.
- 3:05Speaker 3: In us that parrel faith.
- 3:06Speaker 1: We have faith.
- 3:07Speaker 6: She's she's got to got the whites.
- 3:09Speaker 1: We have faith, all right. So where do we start?
- 3:13Speaker 6: Well, I want to start with Mike told me how
- 3:15Speaker 6: bad he was trying to fill my role as the bookkeeper.
- 3:19Speaker 6: And my god, he undersold me.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I really don't have a lot of confidence with.
- 3:23Speaker 6: Didn't really think it was all that difficult.
- 3:25Speaker 1: With the kid one.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I mean, I won, and I couldn't get it right.
- 3:28Speaker 7: I still just assumed that Paul I'm like, thirteen is
- 3:31Speaker 7: less than twelve.
- 3:33Speaker 6: Okay, now we can get back.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Okay. So yeah, that was a we got through it,
- 3:37Speaker 1: interesting night. We got through it. It wasn't an interesting
- 3:40Speaker 1: night on Saturday. Just a bad first half and then
- 3:44Speaker 1: they came alive a little bit in the second half.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I just felt like it was a game of extremes.
- 3:48Speaker 7: I think every unit made like a dumb mistake or
- 3:50Speaker 7: bad play or had a bad series. But then when
- 3:53Speaker 7: it kind of counted, they they came through each each
- 3:56Speaker 7: one of those units at the end. So it was
- 3:58Speaker 7: far from perfect, and you know, there's certainly play of
- 4:00Speaker 7: flaws to point out, but when they had to have it,
- 4:03Speaker 7: they made some big plays.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And I mean, that's just it's just.
- 4:05Speaker 7: Crazy to me that this Patriots team of all Patriots
- 4:07Speaker 7: teams finally beat Josh Allen and won in Buffalo.
- 4:11Speaker 3: It's just weird. You know, I don't know what it says,
- 4:12Speaker 3: but it's what I say.
- 4:13Speaker 7: Denver, Sorry, yeah, you know those two plays too, you know,
- 4:16Speaker 7: some beating Josh Allen, really tough, winning Denver always tough.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Just this team of all teams to win those two games.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I think that that Buffalo game, in this game is
- 4:24Speaker 1: the kind of games that Bill fought he was gonna
- 4:27Speaker 1: win all year. You know, like, we'll hang in there,
- 4:30Speaker 1: the other team will make a mistake or two, and
- 4:32Speaker 1: we'll take advantage, and as long as we can pull
- 4:35Speaker 1: through on special teams, we've got a shot. And you
- 4:38Speaker 1: know that that's how he you know, he wanted to
- 4:41Speaker 1: win games this year, or expected to win games this year.
- 4:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I mean it might have been easier if they hit
- 4:45Speaker 3: the field goal and the extra point.
- 4:46Speaker 6: Yeah you know, yeah, yeah, well it didn't allow a
- 4:49Speaker 6: fifty yard part return and didn't allow sixteen points on
- 4:52Speaker 6: the fourth quarter.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Absolutely, but you know that's santh They're not that great.
- 4:56Speaker 6: You know, I totally agree with fred. I think that's
- 4:58Speaker 6: the way Bill thought he would in all year. I
- 5:00Speaker 6: think that's the way he's trying to win every game.
- 5:03Speaker 6: And that gets you four and eleven.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Yeah. But Christian Barmore, I mean he's really on the field,
- 5:11Speaker 1: he really is, and like, like we've talked about in
- 5:15Speaker 1: this show, like let's get him signed. Yep. You know
- 5:18Speaker 1: he's he's a player, Yep, let's get him signed.
- 5:20Speaker 6: They could they could do that in the offseason. Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 6: that's one for me. That's an extension. I'd be down
- 5:25Speaker 6: with yep.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Priority one.
- 5:26Speaker 1: So that that, you know, that's been a silver lining
- 5:30Speaker 1: of the season is just his emergence. You know, we
- 5:33Speaker 1: always knew he had it in him, but he's really
- 5:36Speaker 1: putting it together, you know, on a consistent basis, and
- 5:39Speaker 1: not just on third down or against the pass. He's
- 5:43Speaker 1: really learning to shed blockers and play that two gap
- 5:46Speaker 1: system and against the run. So I you know, I
- 5:49Speaker 1: love what I'm saying.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's the biggest difference is his run defense,
- 5:53Speaker 4: and now he's rounded out into a three down player
- 5:55Speaker 4: because he can play the run so well, just being
- 5:59Speaker 4: his upper body power is significantly better than it was
- 6:02Speaker 4: a year or two ago. His ability to you know,
- 6:04Speaker 4: leverage and then press off blocks and things like that.
- 6:07Speaker 4: He was always a good up the field player, but
- 6:10Speaker 4: adding that into his repertoires is how he's taken the
- 6:13Speaker 4: next step. And the Patriots said, I don't know, we
- 6:16Speaker 4: were talking about this, like who's who's a pro bowler
- 6:18Speaker 4: on this team? I think Christian Barmore is a pro
- 6:20Speaker 4: bowler for the Patriots, and like a legit one, not
- 6:23Speaker 4: you know, throwing the punt returner, you know, twenty twenty
- 6:26Speaker 4: or something like that. No, that's that's a fair that's
- 6:29Speaker 4: a fair shout.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Like I agree, I am.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I don't know, like really the competition that he'd be
- 6:36Speaker 1: up against an inside tackle.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Deeposition, Yeah it is, but a lot of the a
- 6:40Speaker 4: lot of the guys that you know, Aaron Donald, those
- 6:43Speaker 4: those guys are all in the NFC, you know, but
- 6:45Speaker 4: AFC obviously Chris Joe Jones is gonna make it.
- 6:49Speaker 6: But Barbore does have some sacks now, so he has
- 6:51Speaker 6: some of the stats that don't normally come with that spot.
- 6:53Speaker 6: I agree with Evan. I think he's a strong candidate. Yeah,
- 6:57Speaker 6: he's been the best player for the team. I mean, yep,
- 7:00Speaker 6: I don't really think there's anybody that's been close to him.
- 7:02Speaker 7: And it's just something pound the table for them to
- 7:04Speaker 7: extend him. This is what you haven't had, you haven't
- 7:06Speaker 7: had star players develop, you know, in the last four
- 7:08Speaker 7: or five years to this level.
- 7:10Speaker 6: You've put so.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Much into this guy.
- 7:11Speaker 7: They ask so much of defensive lineman in the system,
- 7:14Speaker 7: as you laid out Fred of you know, being able
- 7:15Speaker 7: to play multiple techniques and he's blossomed now. So this
- 7:20Speaker 7: is what you have to do when these players emerge,
- 7:22Speaker 7: you have to resign them. You can't right now send
- 7:24Speaker 7: them an offer that's probably going to get rejected and say,
- 7:27Speaker 7: well we tried, let's we'll see you next next offseason,
- 7:29Speaker 7: like they have to act this offseason on Barmore. I
- 7:31Speaker 7: think that's how you start to break this cycle of
- 7:34Speaker 7: all right, here's a guy that's played well, that's developed.
- 7:36Speaker 7: We're signaling to the rest of the team that when
- 7:38Speaker 7: you play like this and you work hard and as
- 7:39Speaker 7: Bill said, had a great offseason, these are the guys
- 7:42Speaker 7: who didn't get rewarded that we're going to build around.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Send that message.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Then on offense, you know, it was nice to see
- 7:47Speaker 1: them going downfield a little bit, you know, throws to
- 7:51Speaker 1: Parker and Douglas. I you know, that was great. I
- 7:54Speaker 1: don't I don't know why it was successful this week
- 7:57Speaker 1: and it hasn't been, but you know, it just seems
- 7:59Speaker 1: like they were given that a shot and it was working.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So I liked the seven on passes over twenty yards.
- 8:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I liked the seam shot to Farrell Brown. That one,
- 8:09Speaker 6: to me was the most conventional offense. And like, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 6: you kind of answered your own question, like I don't
- 8:14Speaker 6: know why I was, except, you know, you throw fifty
- 8:16Speaker 6: to fifty balls, sometimes they're going to catch him, sometimes
- 8:17Speaker 6: they're not. DeVante Parker made all the plays. I thought
- 8:21Speaker 6: Douglas did a great job high pointing one of those
- 8:23Speaker 6: for a big play. This particular game, the fifty to
- 8:27Speaker 6: fifty balls mostly all went in the patriots favor. The
- 8:31Speaker 6: Broncos threw a handful of them up and none of
- 8:33Speaker 6: them got caught. You know, Courtland Sutton only played that
- 8:38Speaker 6: one seriously. But that's a play that you've seen Denver
- 8:41Speaker 6: make this year. And he dropped it and then he
- 8:44Speaker 6: got concussed. And then the other times they took shots,
- 8:47Speaker 6: the Patriots were in good position. I thought Denver was
- 8:51Speaker 6: in good position to make plays in the ball. Parker
- 8:53Speaker 6: made better plays.
- 8:53Speaker 3: That's what he does.
- 8:54Speaker 6: You know, he made better plays on the ball than
- 8:56Speaker 6: certain I thought. I asked him about we had grow
- 9:00Speaker 6: on the post game show, Freddy and I asked him
- 9:02Speaker 6: about that, and he said he was really patient. He
- 9:04Speaker 6: was impressed with his patients as a corner so Tan
- 9:09Speaker 6: and you know, could you could tell that he was.
- 9:11Speaker 6: He was like, this guy's pretty good.
- 9:13Speaker 7: Yeah, I just I'll Teevan up here because I thought
- 9:15Speaker 7: he said it well was it's like Bailey's Appy's with
- 9:18Speaker 7: this offense needs because you know, the protection stinks, and he's.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Just got some ability to move around and get out
- 9:22Speaker 3: of trumble and throw it up. And that's that's the difference.
- 9:26Speaker 7: I don't think, you know, seven three and outs. It's
- 9:28Speaker 7: it's not like they've rehimitted the wheel.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I'll let.
- 9:32Speaker 4: They're also what like three and twelve month third down
- 9:34Speaker 4: or something like that. Oh yeah, when it comes like
- 9:38Speaker 4: in terms of actual efficiency and statistics, they they're really
- 9:41Speaker 4: not that much better than we're with Mac Jones, if
- 9:44Speaker 4: f at all. You know, his EPA per dropback is
- 9:46Speaker 4: actually worse as a starter than Mac Jones was as
- 9:49Speaker 4: a starter of this season. But it's just those plays,
- 9:52Speaker 4: you know, you guys talked about him, like the Douglas
- 9:54Speaker 4: play that that doesn't happen with Mac Jones at quarterback.
- 9:57Speaker 4: He doesn't move off his spot like that and throw
- 10:00Speaker 4: off platform and give Douglas that chance to make that
- 10:03Speaker 4: play down the field. And as I was watching this
- 10:05Speaker 4: game back, I just felt like there was multiple times
- 10:07Speaker 4: whereas like, well, that play doesn't happen with Mac, and
- 10:10Speaker 4: that play doesn't happen with Mack. Now some of the
- 10:12Speaker 4: throws that he missed it, you know, against the blitz
- 10:14Speaker 4: on the short throws that Mac probably makes those ones.
- 10:17Speaker 4: But it's not the layup set have really helped them out.
- 10:20Speaker 4: It's it's been the big swings that have helped them out.
- 10:22Speaker 4: And I think that that's you know, the difference right
- 10:25Speaker 4: now is the agility in the pocket, the ability to
- 10:27Speaker 4: win late in the down off platform. You know, the
- 10:30Speaker 4: Kasicki touchdown, He buys time, buys time, makes a tight
- 10:34Speaker 4: window throw. I just don't think the other guy was
- 10:37Speaker 4: doing that, And that's been a little bit of a
- 10:39Speaker 4: difference with the offense. But I think overall with Bailey Zappi,
- 10:43Speaker 4: it doesn't mean much to me in terms of the
- 10:45Speaker 4: bigger picture of him starting here next year or anything
- 10:48Speaker 4: like that. But why this offense has been a little
- 10:51Speaker 4: bit better with Bailey Zappi's because he's a little bit
- 10:54Speaker 4: more of a gun slinger. He's just a little bit
- 10:56Speaker 4: more of a playmaker, whereas Mac Jones needed everything else
- 10:59Speaker 4: to do the heavy lifting for him.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Yeah, on the other side, Paul, you mentioned you giving
- 11:04Speaker 1: up those sixteen points, you know, to blow the lead,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you know, I think that, uh, you know, Russell Wilson
- 11:12Speaker 1: was obviously a big part of that. He's his ability
- 11:15Speaker 1: to extend plays and and I think once they figured out, okay,
- 11:19Speaker 1: let's just keep him away from Barmore, he was able
- 11:22Speaker 1: to extend those plays. And I think, you know, you
- 11:24Speaker 1: have what's his name start, you know, playing cornerback Jonathan
- 11:28Speaker 1: Jones missed a bunch of snaps and I think I
- 11:31Speaker 1: think they were pretty weak in coverage, and you know
- 11:33Speaker 1: which it showed when.
- 11:35Speaker 6: I mean I thought Wilson was really bad in the
- 11:37Speaker 6: game in general. Yeah, you know, the kid Mims made
- 11:40Speaker 6: a great catch on a deep ball that set up
- 11:42Speaker 6: the first one. If you had told like I told you,
- 11:44Speaker 6: you know, I've long since left the NOD game Fred. Yeah. Yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 6: but at sixteen seven, I thought the game was over.
- 11:50Speaker 6: That was before the fumble on the kickoff. I thought
- 11:53Speaker 6: the game was over because I you know, you said
- 11:56Speaker 6: keep him away from from Barmore. I think that's a
- 11:58Speaker 6: really accurate description. It was like Barmel was chasing Wilson down.
- 12:02Speaker 6: Wilson was running to Barmore and creating his own sacks.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Like twice he was just standing in the pocket and
- 12:08Speaker 6: had the ball knocked out of his hand right like
- 12:11Speaker 6: he was really bad in that game. Then all of
- 12:13Speaker 6: a sudden he wasn't he put two drives together almost
- 12:16Speaker 6: like it was a tie games. I would have I
- 12:17Speaker 6: would have given them no chance to do that.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I think I think, you know, Pittsburgh and Denver to
- 12:23Speaker 1: a large part, I think, you know, they underestimated the
- 12:26Speaker 1: Patriots a little bit, and I think Wilson did too.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And I mean once he realized, you know, I have
- 12:31Speaker 1: to move around here, because you know they do, they
- 12:34Speaker 1: can get me, I think he was a little better.
- 12:37Speaker 1: You know, you'd notice that when he fled the pocket,
- 12:40Speaker 1: he'd go wide like like it wasn't just subtle, like
- 12:43Speaker 1: he would move way out and that you know, that
- 12:46Speaker 1: gave him the time.
- 12:48Speaker 6: So I kind of think he was fleeing the pocket
- 12:50Speaker 6: too often.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Well, I certainly ran into Jos like he was seeing
- 12:55Speaker 4: ghosts at that point of the game.
- 12:57Speaker 6: But it was like a great pocket, like three time
- 13:00Speaker 6: times that he escaped, yeah, right into trouble and either
- 13:03Speaker 6: had to throw it away or get sacked. Yeah.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Yeah, they did a nice job of you know, they
- 13:08Speaker 4: ran a lot of simulated pressures in this game, so
- 13:09Speaker 4: they're gonna put six guys up on the line of
- 13:11Speaker 4: scrimmage and then four are gonna come, but you don't
- 13:13Speaker 4: know which four are gonna come. You have to read
- 13:16Speaker 4: it post snap. And I thought that they were able
- 13:18Speaker 4: to get some one on one matchups for guys, especially
- 13:20Speaker 4: obviously bar More, and that was a big part of
- 13:23Speaker 4: the game plan. And when you play a quarterback like
- 13:24Speaker 4: Russell Wilson that can run around, that covers all the
- 13:27Speaker 4: gaps on the line of scrimmage, so now there's no
- 13:30Speaker 4: escape route for him to go. And I think that
- 13:32Speaker 4: was a big part of why they did it. And
- 13:34Speaker 4: I thought in terms of like scheming up pressure, this
- 13:37Speaker 4: was probably one of their better games of the year
- 13:40Speaker 4: of doing that. They did a really nice job in
- 13:42Speaker 4: this game of really showing pressure and then falling out
- 13:46Speaker 4: of it and then sometimes bringing it and bringing some
- 13:48Speaker 4: cover zero. They did bring cover zero one too many times,
- 13:52Speaker 4: which just seems to be the Steve Belichick m O.
- 13:54Speaker 8: Like.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I think he's a really good play caller honestly for
- 13:56Speaker 4: the most part, but he brings one too many zero
- 13:59Speaker 4: pressures every single week. And the twenty one yard touchdown
- 14:03Speaker 4: to Johnson was the one too many times you know,
- 14:06Speaker 4: the one more zero and then Sean Wade blew the
- 14:09Speaker 4: tackle and he scored.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you know it.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Just in general, I thought they rushed the quarterback really
- 14:14Speaker 4: well in this game, and that that defensive line's been playing.
- 14:17Speaker 1: But I wonder if he doesn't do that, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 1: call those zero pressures, would they you know, would they
- 14:23Speaker 1: beat him another way? Like in other words, do you
- 14:25Speaker 1: need to keep that pressure going in order to keep
- 14:28Speaker 1: the you know, keep the game close and get them
- 14:30Speaker 1: off the field. It's definitely if you got to get burned.
- 14:32Speaker 6: I mean it's an offense that hasn't moved the ball
- 14:34Speaker 6: all year.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, the fans were booing, yeah.
- 14:36Speaker 6: I mean because they've seen it. Yeah, yeah, you've seen
- 14:39Speaker 6: it real Yeah, they like I know, Russell Wilson's numbers
- 14:43Speaker 6: are much better this year than last year. I've seen
- 14:46Speaker 6: a handful of Broncos games. I don't think he's played
- 14:48Speaker 6: all that much better. He looks washed to me. He
- 14:51Speaker 6: had a run early in the game that he went
- 14:54Speaker 6: right up the middle, got about fifteen yards in a
- 14:57Speaker 6: first down, Like I remember Russell Wilson like that's a
- 15:02Speaker 6: big play and he was like a turtle going up
- 15:05Speaker 6: the middle. You know what did the kids say, right, Washed,
- 15:10Speaker 6: he's cashed guy, right, I think he's done. I don't
- 15:14Speaker 6: think he moves well anymore, and I don't think he
- 15:16Speaker 6: wants to get hit lunch. Like a lot of these guys,
- 15:18Speaker 6: they just you know what, I took enough of those hits.
- 15:20Speaker 6: I don't have to do it anymore. And I think
- 15:22Speaker 6: that's probably the biggest difference back to the Patriots for
- 15:25Speaker 6: Zappie and Jones that that Evan talked about. I think
- 15:30Speaker 6: it's unfair to say that Mac Jones has never been
- 15:32Speaker 6: able to do that. He doesn't do that anymore. But
- 15:34Speaker 6: as a rookie, I do think he moved around and
- 15:37Speaker 6: looked down field when he did it. Now he never
- 15:39Speaker 6: does that. Now He's always here. They come, you know,
- 15:42Speaker 6: after a while, every one of these guys, they's just like,
- 15:45Speaker 6: I'm tired of getting hit. And Zaby hasn't gotten hit
- 15:48Speaker 6: that much yet. You know, if he were to play
- 15:50Speaker 6: the whole year, I wonder if he would be as
- 15:53Speaker 6: willing as because I agree with Evan's description of the
- 15:56Speaker 6: Kasiki touchdown especially. You know, he's like sliding around the pocket,
- 16:01Speaker 6: moving around, you know, buying time. You know, if you're
- 16:05Speaker 6: Mac Jones on that play, and you have the same mindset.
- 16:07Speaker 6: You're like, there's no way that protection's going to hold up.
- 16:09Speaker 6: I'm just gonna get hit. I'm gonna throw it away.
- 16:11Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, Actually, let me just cough it up and
- 16:14Speaker 7: hope that somebody, Oh shoot.
- 16:16Speaker 6: That was at his worst moments, Yes, yeah, te me
- 16:18Speaker 6: to look at the worst side of things.
- 16:19Speaker 4: So playing the game, he had he hit Zeke on
- 16:23Speaker 4: like a little five yard angle route and on the play,
- 16:26Speaker 4: that's a big play because it's a sixty yard field
- 16:29Speaker 4: goal if he doesn't, you know, complete that play, and
- 16:31Speaker 4: Darien Low gets spun around by the edge rusher on
- 16:35Speaker 4: that side and he just you know, bob and weaves
- 16:38Speaker 4: out of the pocket and just you know, kind of
- 16:40Speaker 4: find some space and hits the check down. And I
- 16:43Speaker 4: wish throw is a little bit better so that Zeke
- 16:45Speaker 4: could have ran after the catch with it. But at
- 16:46Speaker 4: least he didn't. He avoided the negative play.
- 16:49Speaker 6: But I like that when you watch the you know,
- 16:52Speaker 6: the film review, you sort of looked at some of
- 16:54Speaker 6: the other stuff too, because I feel like there was
- 16:57Speaker 6: a little bit of a ground swell going. I don't
- 16:58Speaker 6: know if you heard any of this, fred I was
- 17:00Speaker 6: like Ben Vollen was tweeting about it during the game
- 17:02Speaker 6: and then he asked and he asked about it after
- 17:05Speaker 6: the game, you know, like you know that they waited
- 17:07Speaker 6: too long to make this quarterback. Like, I don't know
- 17:10Speaker 6: what you think you're seeing offensively that is light years
- 17:13Speaker 6: different because the production is just not there. And Evan
- 17:16Speaker 6: just kind of told you. And I thought Kurt Warner
- 17:19Speaker 6: did a good job of this too. You know, the
- 17:23Speaker 6: Broncos scored the first touchdown to get within eight. Now
- 17:25Speaker 6: you have to move the ball. You have an easy
- 17:28Speaker 6: slant route to Jalen Rager who is wide open, and
- 17:32Speaker 6: he throws it at his feet, which causes Rager to
- 17:35Speaker 6: go to the ground to catch the ball and therefore
- 17:37Speaker 6: prevents him from being able to get the first down.
- 17:40Speaker 6: There were a lot of those kinds of plays too. Yeah,
- 17:44Speaker 6: you know the little one that he flipped over Ezekiel
- 17:46Speaker 6: Elliott's head, that could have been a big play. I
- 17:48Speaker 6: think early in the.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Game it would have been a touchdown. Yeah, it was
- 17:50Speaker 4: a man coverage and it was easy throws. Yeah, you know,
- 17:54Speaker 4: I was play your song yeah, doing TV, and I
- 17:58Speaker 4: was talking to Deuce about it and that his splits
- 18:02Speaker 4: on short throws versus you know, under ten yards. Over
- 18:06Speaker 4: ten yards are demonstratively different. Like under ten yards, he's
- 18:10Speaker 4: one of the worst quarterbacks in the league throwing short passes.
- 18:14Speaker 4: But then all of a sudden you have him open
- 18:16Speaker 4: it up and throw it down the field and he's bonkers,
- 18:19Speaker 4: like he's like leading the league in EPA on deep passes.
- 18:22Speaker 6: Bailey's appy, which if you think about it, the accuracy
- 18:27Speaker 6: like I I it's not as big because Parker's going
- 18:30Speaker 6: up to high point this way right and if he
- 18:32Speaker 6: gets it, he's going to get it, you know, just
- 18:35Speaker 6: like Juju did in Pittsburgh. There was like that wasn't
- 18:37Speaker 6: because those throws were perfect, right, There was there was
- 18:40Speaker 6: that makes.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Plays against blitz pressure in particular, where he just had
- 18:44Speaker 4: guys that were running the right routes, that were in
- 18:47Speaker 4: the right spots and he's throwing it, you know, ten
- 18:49Speaker 4: yards away from the guy. He had Douglas twice, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 4: one in verse three and out of the game. After
- 18:56Speaker 4: the fumble, he's got him in the flat and he
- 18:58Speaker 4: just rushes it and throws like into the sideline nowhere
- 19:01Speaker 4: near him, And it's like, how can you if he
- 19:03Speaker 4: made those layups. If he made the easy ones, then
- 19:06Speaker 4: they would be more consistent as an offense because they'd
- 19:08Speaker 4: still have the big plays and then they he would
- 19:11Speaker 4: be able to string together the easy ones to move
- 19:13Speaker 4: them down the field. But he can't make the layups,
- 19:15Speaker 4: and that's why they're just totally.
- 19:18Speaker 6: And they haven't really shown any more consistent consistency offensively
- 19:22Speaker 6: than they were. You know, they scored nineteen points in
- 19:24Speaker 6: this game, which is you know, that's more than they
- 19:26Speaker 6: were average. They average what fourteen thirteen in change or
- 19:28Speaker 6: whatever it is, so they scored more. But you know,
- 19:31Speaker 6: they did get a fifty seven yard field goal as
- 19:34Speaker 6: time expired that you know, at any given point this season,
- 19:37Speaker 6: otherwise Bill wouldn't have attempted. You know, I don't think
- 19:41Speaker 6: that he was planning on attempting that one. I think
- 19:43Speaker 6: he was going for Rovitz. So like, I don't think
- 19:45Speaker 6: the offense has been markedly better. I love all the
- 19:49Speaker 6: things that I that said, I love all the things
- 19:51Speaker 6: that Zappi does that I don't think Mac can do. Yeah,
- 19:54Speaker 6: and just buying time moving around and trying to make
- 19:56Speaker 6: a play downfield. I'll watch Zappi play the last three
- 19:59Speaker 6: games any day of the week over the first ten
- 20:02Speaker 6: games that.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Macas no entertainment. It was entertainment.
- 20:04Speaker 6: It might not be all that different production wise, but
- 20:06Speaker 6: I'll take this over that any day.
- 20:08Speaker 1: He's not a squeamish ya there.
- 20:10Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree.
- 20:13Speaker 1: You know, so it was a Christmas present, but for
- 20:15Speaker 1: some fans not quite the present they were looking for.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And that seems to be a theme that you know
- 20:20Speaker 1: a lot of fans are upset about the win. Yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 1: you know, and I get it. There were some they
- 20:25Speaker 1: got they want the Patriots now fourth and uh seating
- 20:31Speaker 1: for the draft pick. And you know they were second
- 20:33Speaker 1: going in that.
- 20:33Speaker 6: The Niners lost last night. Heard us by the way,
- 20:36Speaker 6: that did it really schedule?
- 20:38Speaker 7: This is more about strength of schedule I ever wanted
- 20:39Speaker 7: to know about, like, well, you beat the commanders, but
- 20:42Speaker 7: you're actually behind the commanders.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Some like some like really big football fan that has
- 20:47Speaker 4: like a coding background should make you know that ESPN
- 20:50Speaker 4: has the playoff machine, Can we have the tank machine
- 20:53Speaker 4: so that we can like a mutations because I would
- 20:56Speaker 4: be but.
- 20:57Speaker 6: That does make sense, like if strength of schedule was
- 20:59Speaker 6: so important and the reason they do the strength of
- 21:01Speaker 6: schedule is if you have a harder strength of schedule,
- 21:04Speaker 6: you'll considered and you have the same record as a
- 21:06Speaker 6: team with an easier you're considered to be behind them
- 21:09Speaker 6: because they they only won four games with this terrible schedule.
- 21:12Speaker 6: You were able to win four with your really hard one.
- 21:15Speaker 6: That's how they do it. So why wouldn't the fact
- 21:18Speaker 6: that Washington beat the Patriots? Why doesn't that matter?
- 21:21Speaker 3: Yeah? I know that should be the first thing? Is
- 21:22Speaker 3: like that the first thing.
- 21:23Speaker 6: So we played and they beat us, so they should
- 21:26Speaker 6: be considered better than us.
- 21:27Speaker 4: I imagine that because a lot of people you could
- 21:30Speaker 4: tank the game, right, That's what I imagine is like,
- 21:33Speaker 4: if you're playing Washington in week eighteen, Yeah you could.
- 21:37Speaker 4: You're right, you could throw the game.
- 21:38Speaker 6: Don't don't don't you guys don't have to bring the logic.
- 21:41Speaker 6: You're right, you're absolutely right.
- 21:42Speaker 7: But if we've talked about the lottery, like a lottery
- 21:45Speaker 7: system for the top ten picks before, right.
- 21:46Speaker 6: Fred Fred has all kinds of things that he wants
- 21:50Speaker 6: to do. He wants he wants there to be a
- 21:52Speaker 6: lottery every year. The Super Bowl champs should be able
- 21:54Speaker 6: to have the number one pick.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Well, they should be in the running. And I also
- 21:58Speaker 1: think that the team that came in last, that's where
- 22:01Speaker 1: the draft should be. If they keep the way it is,
- 22:03Speaker 1: that's where the draft should be instead of well, but anyway,
- 22:06Speaker 1: there's a lot of I would I would make the
- 22:08Speaker 1: draft much more an event by just putting you know,
- 22:11Speaker 1: the uh.
- 22:12Speaker 6: I'm not sure you can make it anymore of an
- 22:13Speaker 6: event than they make it.
- 22:14Speaker 1: But make it so that the picking of who drafts
- 22:18Speaker 1: first becomes an event in and of itself.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, like the NBA.
- 22:23Speaker 7: Yeah, Now do people in the NBA complain about, well,
- 22:25Speaker 7: now we're only going to have six ping pong balls
- 22:27Speaker 7: in the in the thing?
- 22:29Speaker 4: The NBA has a real tanking problem though, Like that,
- 22:33Speaker 4: that's when.
- 22:34Speaker 3: One player can change your team so much. It seems
- 22:36Speaker 3: to just as.
- 22:36Speaker 4: The Spurs, that's not happening in San Antonio, right.
- 22:39Speaker 6: I agree, though the NBA has a tanking problem. The
- 22:42Speaker 6: other sports really don't.
- 22:43Speaker 1: But I think I think it should be a thirty
- 22:45Speaker 1: two team lottery. I don't think it should be just
- 22:47Speaker 1: like the top six or whatever. So you know, there's
- 22:50Speaker 1: no reason to tank.
- 22:51Speaker 7: You know, like what if you just did tears, like
- 22:53Speaker 7: you have the one to ten, that's that's one ping pong,
- 22:55Speaker 7: you know off and then ten to twenty is you know.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Well, I mean the team that wins the super Bowl
- 23:03Speaker 4: would have to have like a very small fraction of
- 23:07Speaker 4: a chance. Why what do you mean why you can.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Still only have to you know, it's like so, you know,
- 23:14Speaker 1: like so they get somebody that they draft, then maybe
- 23:17Speaker 1: you know, they put more people on free and free agency.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I don't I think it's this.
- 23:21Speaker 6: Whole Imagine like Tom Brady wins the Super Bowl in
- 23:24Speaker 6: his last game as the Patriots quarterback, he decides to
- 23:26Speaker 6: retire the next Peyton May how about.
- 23:34Speaker 1: This the Patriots for the first round only it's a lottery,
- 23:37Speaker 1: and then the rest of the rounds are worse the
- 23:40Speaker 1: first you know, but for that first round, everyone has
- 23:43Speaker 1: an equal chance of getting a high pick.
- 23:46Speaker 6: I don't know why there should be an equal chance
- 23:49Speaker 6: for getting a high pick. Don't you want all your
- 23:51Speaker 6: teams to be balanced.
- 23:52Speaker 1: They can still do that. We're just talking about the
- 23:54Speaker 1: first round. They can still do that. And and let's
- 23:57Speaker 1: face it, a lot of these bats.
- 23:59Speaker 6: I've heard a lot of Patriots fans say, you know
- 24:00Speaker 6: how hard it is to pick in the first round
- 24:02Speaker 6: when you're always picking down the bottom this year, that
- 24:05Speaker 6: that's a big advantage that their picks are going to
- 24:07Speaker 6: be high.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Let's face it, a lot of these bad teams who
- 24:10Speaker 1: annually have high picks stay in the bottom because they're
- 24:13Speaker 1: just terrible organizations. You know, it's no guarantee that when
- 24:17Speaker 1: you get.
- 24:18Speaker 6: So you know what, the key for them to get
- 24:20Speaker 6: out of the bottom would be, give them the thirty
- 24:21Speaker 6: second pick in the draft. They'll get much better real.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Or maybe they realize they need better, you know, people
- 24:27Speaker 1: drafting or whatever. You know, there's a reason why they
- 24:30Speaker 1: stay low, and they shouldn't be rewarded for that. That's
- 24:33Speaker 1: what I say. Everyone should have an equal chance at that.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Those top guys.
- 24:37Speaker 6: Not the time.
- 24:38Speaker 1: And let's face so, if you're if you're the Patriots,
- 24:41Speaker 1: let's say you had my system, you're the Patriots, you
- 24:44Speaker 1: have Tom Brady, you get the first pick. You're going
- 24:46Speaker 1: to be picking a quarterback.
- 24:47Speaker 6: No, it depends what Tom Brady.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Let's say.
- 24:51Speaker 6: I mean they picked him in the second round when
- 24:53Speaker 6: Brady was in his prime.
- 24:54Speaker 1: But let's say he's in his prime. You're not going
- 24:55Speaker 1: to like pick a quarterback. You're gonna you're gonna trade
- 24:58Speaker 1: down anyway.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Certainly screw up all the mock drafts that everybody already has.
- 25:02Speaker 3: You know, everybody's got it all laid out right now.
- 25:04Speaker 6: Of what I'm all for it now.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Well, and I mean, I also.
- 25:08Speaker 7: Think it's worth bringing up that even these picks that
- 25:11Speaker 7: you think right now are Wow, I'd be so excited
- 25:14Speaker 7: to get Trey Lance.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You know, it's just it's it doesn't always.
- 25:18Speaker 6: But like the whole notion of this, like bad organizations,
- 25:22Speaker 6: bad organizations are constantly changing their coaches in their gms. Yeah,
- 25:26Speaker 6: there's not a lot of bad organizations that have had
- 25:27Speaker 6: the same coaching GM for ten years.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Well maybe that's they're doing that poorly too, picking who
- 25:32Speaker 1: the coach and GM should be. So in other words, right,
- 25:35Speaker 1: work hard and that's how you earn it instead of
- 25:37Speaker 1: being bad and that's how you earn But.
- 25:39Speaker 4: I think, like Deuce's point to the fans that are
- 25:42Speaker 4: mad that they won the game, I think I understand, like,
- 25:45Speaker 4: be mad, it's fine, but if you are. The way
- 25:48Speaker 4: to look at it, though, is look at the past,
- 25:50Speaker 4: like five drafts even like like we're not talking about
- 25:53Speaker 4: the brock Parties and the Tom Brady's of the world,
- 25:55Speaker 4: just in the first round, the first quarterback off the
- 25:58Speaker 4: board is not always the best quarterback from the class,
- 26:01Speaker 4: and oftentimes there's multiple quarterbacks that end up going on
- 26:05Speaker 4: to be good, Like you know the Joe Burrow class
- 26:07Speaker 4: for example, where you know it's Joe Burrow, and it's
- 26:09Speaker 4: Tua and it's Herbert, Like, all those guys are good.
- 26:12Speaker 4: So if you're the Patriots, Jayden Daniels, Michael Pennix, one
- 26:16Speaker 4: of those guys is going to end up being a
- 26:17Speaker 4: good quarterback in the NFL. Like it's all about deciding
- 26:20Speaker 4: which one is going to be the best. But it's
- 26:23Speaker 4: I feel like all these Patriots fans that want them
- 26:25Speaker 4: to tank and want them to have the highest pick
- 26:26Speaker 4: possible are losing sight that Jade and Daniels could end
- 26:31Speaker 4: up being better than Drake may like.
- 26:33Speaker 6: We we don't then take them at and take him
- 26:35Speaker 6: at two.
- 26:35Speaker 4: But it's but it doesn't it doesn't make it.
- 26:37Speaker 6: If I want my I want my option to be
- 26:38Speaker 6: as high as I think, so I get it.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Like, if you're one or two, you get to pick.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So whoever your scouting staff says is going to be
- 26:46Speaker 1: the guy, you don't have to worry about losing.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Him and That's why if I would argue that your
- 26:50Speaker 4: scouting staff is more wrong than it is right. So
- 26:53Speaker 4: at the end of the day, what difference does you.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Got to You gotta trust somebody. You got to make
- 26:57Speaker 1: a pick. You got to make a pick.
- 26:59Speaker 6: I just want my option. I like, if if I
- 27:02Speaker 6: have a high pick, I want to I want to
- 27:04Speaker 6: pick the guy that I want. I don't want to
- 27:06Speaker 6: have to hope that he's available.
- 27:07Speaker 1: In other words, let's say they like Penis. Let's say
- 27:10Speaker 1: this scouting staff or whoever is the scouting staff at
- 27:13Speaker 1: the time, loves Penis. If you take them, if you're
- 27:16Speaker 1: number two or four or five, you take them there
- 27:19Speaker 1: you don't hope that he drops.
- 27:21Speaker 4: See I disagree, Like, why would you take him before
- 27:23Speaker 4: the rest of the league?
- 27:24Speaker 1: Now you love him, you might lose them.
- 27:27Speaker 4: You might or you might get two players for this
- 27:30Speaker 4: and still get your guy.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I see, when it comes to quarterback or head coach,
- 27:34Speaker 1: whoever your guy is, if you really think he's going
- 27:37Speaker 1: to be the person, there's no price too high to pay.
- 27:40Speaker 4: I just don't think you can be in between you
- 27:43Speaker 4: two guys.
- 27:43Speaker 6: Like, if you know that Penix isn't going in the
- 27:46Speaker 6: first round, I don't take them because I'm no. But
- 27:50Speaker 6: that's what you're paid for.
- 27:51Speaker 1: So you're saying you're the only scouting staff.
- 27:53Speaker 6: I thought we were a good organization. I thought only
- 27:55Speaker 6: the bad organizations didn't know how to do this.
- 27:57Speaker 1: But I would assume if my scouting staff really loves
- 27:59Speaker 1: this guy to the point where you think he's gonna
- 28:01Speaker 1: be our franchise quarterback, other scouting staffs might feel the
- 28:04Speaker 1: same way.
- 28:05Speaker 4: But it's literally But that's part of the gig though,
- 28:07Speaker 4: right is finding out what the other thirty one teams
- 28:09Speaker 4: think of the guy.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Well, if you know that for certain, if you can
- 28:13Speaker 1: be certain, okay, but how can you be certain?
- 28:17Speaker 4: I just don't think you can be certain about any
- 28:18Speaker 4: of it, right, So, like you take.
- 28:20Speaker 1: The chance, you take him when you can take them.
- 28:22Speaker 4: But you don't like this stress over, like them getting
- 28:26Speaker 4: Drake May versus them getting Jayden Daniels at four instead
- 28:29Speaker 4: of Drake May at two, Like we don't know, Like
- 28:32Speaker 4: you don't know. You don't know which guy is gonna
- 28:34Speaker 4: end up being better, not even the teams, No, but you.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Don't know that. So but I would assume that teams
- 28:39Speaker 1: go in saying this is the guy Jaden Daniels is
- 28:43Speaker 1: better than Drake May or Drake May is better than
- 28:45Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels. We want the best quarterback we can get
- 28:48Speaker 1: this year.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Not this team. Well I'm just telling you, like this
- 28:52Speaker 4: team tiers it right like they they look at it
- 28:55Speaker 4: in tears, and I think that they look at it
- 28:57Speaker 4: and say.
- 28:58Speaker 1: When it comes to the quarterback position, Yeah, I don't
- 29:01Speaker 1: think so.
- 29:01Speaker 4: I really think no. I mean that's how they scout
- 29:03Speaker 4: it though, like that that that's how they stack their
- 29:05Speaker 4: board is in tears.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I know they You're right, I know that's true.
- 29:09Speaker 1: But when it comes to quarterback, there aren't you know,
- 29:13Speaker 1: there are some drafts where you get three or four,
- 29:15Speaker 1: you know, really good quarterbacks, but that's not the case
- 29:18Speaker 1: most of the time. Most of the time it's one
- 29:19Speaker 1: or two guys that come out and you better be
- 29:22Speaker 1: lucky and get the guy that is.
- 29:23Speaker 4: And yeah, I totally agree with that, but it doesn't
- 29:25Speaker 4: there's no guarantee that the one or two guys that
- 29:28Speaker 4: are gonna be greater.
- 29:28Speaker 6: And course, and if they if they have like Panix
- 29:32Speaker 6: is their number one quarterback, like you know, like they
- 29:36Speaker 6: always say, like Evan's talking about, they stack it vertically
- 29:38Speaker 6: and horizontally. So like, maybe Penix is a middle of
- 29:42Speaker 6: the first round in terms of the entire class, but
- 29:44Speaker 6: if he's your number one quarterback, that's different.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Well okay, but I get what you're saying. But so
- 29:52Speaker 1: what I'm saying is like, if you think Penix is
- 29:55Speaker 1: the best quarterback out of a bunch of mediocre quarterbacks, wait,
- 29:59Speaker 1: but if you think think Pennix is a blue shipper,
- 30:02Speaker 1: then you go get them.
- 30:04Speaker 6: Then you go get I mean, it's hard to know
- 30:05Speaker 6: all those factors. But I, like I said, I'm in
- 30:08Speaker 6: between you guys. I get both of your points.
- 30:10Speaker 4: I get his point totally. I just think that fans
- 30:13Speaker 4: that are freaking out over if they're going to be
- 30:15Speaker 4: two or four, oh, that that part, yeah, are missing
- 30:18Speaker 4: that Patrick Mahomes went eleventh overall.
- 30:21Speaker 1: And let me let's say they're five, right and they
- 30:25Speaker 1: love Drake, may go up and get them, which they
- 30:29Speaker 1: still could do, trade up and get them. Sure, you know,
- 30:31Speaker 1: like just because you're not one or two doesn't mean
- 30:33Speaker 1: you still can't get the guy with what figure it out,
- 30:37Speaker 1: future picks whatever, you know, do whatever you have to
- 30:41Speaker 1: do to get them.
- 30:43Speaker 6: That's tough when you when you need as much as
- 30:45Speaker 6: they need. It's tough to get rid of picks.
- 30:47Speaker 1: It's just it's hard.
- 30:48Speaker 7: It's hard to thread the needle because if you is
- 30:51Speaker 7: you know, if you wait and you drift the guy,
- 30:53Speaker 7: people are going to say, well, they didn't like him
- 30:55Speaker 7: that much. They because they didn't trade up to get him.
- 30:57Speaker 7: But if you trade up to get him and he's
- 30:59Speaker 7: not good, then you then.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Well, that's terrible.
- 31:01Speaker 7: They traded up to get a guy who stinks like
- 31:04Speaker 7: you know, it's it's it's hard to I think trading up.
- 31:06Speaker 4: For a quarterback is one of the worst moves that
- 31:09Speaker 4: organization can make because ultimately, like I keep saying, it's
- 31:14Speaker 4: a crap shoot. And I would also just say that
- 31:17Speaker 4: if you get a draft a guy like Bryce Young
- 31:19Speaker 4: and then you're on a terrible team in Carolina, now
- 31:22Speaker 4: they don't have their first round pick, so he doesn't
- 31:24Speaker 4: he's not getting any help now from from the draft
- 31:27Speaker 4: to next year.
- 31:28Speaker 6: But it has worked out for others. See, I think
- 31:30Speaker 6: he's a city in Buffalo.
- 31:32Speaker 4: But those teams were further along in the process.
- 31:34Speaker 1: So here's where I'm going to be on Evid's side
- 31:35Speaker 1: of the fence. I think there are those drafts where
- 31:38Speaker 1: it's not a crab shoot. Peyton Manning's not a crap shoot,
- 31:41Speaker 1: Andrew luck wasn't a crap shoot. I think this year
- 31:44Speaker 1: is a crap shoot. As much as people love you know,
- 31:48Speaker 1: Drake may Or.
- 31:49Speaker 6: You didn't you didn't think Trevor Lawrence was a crap shoot?
- 31:52Speaker 6: I did, right, No, A lot of people think Caleb
- 31:54Speaker 6: Williams is better than Trevor Lawrence. I know they do,
- 31:56Speaker 6: and I think, coming coming out of college, not now, I.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Don't see the evidence for that.
- 32:01Speaker 7: And I think there are a large segment of fans
- 32:03Speaker 7: that think after the three picks it's a crap shoot.
- 32:05Speaker 7: They think that that Williams and Harrison and may are
- 32:09Speaker 7: not as much a crap shoot as the rest of it.
- 32:11Speaker 7: And that's I think where a lot of the angs
- 32:12Speaker 7: comes from, is that if you're not in that top
- 32:14Speaker 7: three and you don't even at least have a chance
- 32:16Speaker 7: at one of those guys, that's I just think it.
- 32:18Speaker 1: For the quarterback position, I think this year isn't a
- 32:21Speaker 1: certainty for any of these guys, for any of them,
- 32:25Speaker 1: so this year I could see waiting a little bit.
- 32:27Speaker 4: I just think that, you know, Kansas City is a
- 32:30Speaker 4: great example, they get Patrick Mahomes at tenth overall. They
- 32:33Speaker 4: traded up to get Patrick Mahomes, but they had Alex
- 32:35Speaker 4: Smith in like kind of already made situation there in
- 32:38Speaker 4: Kansas City, and then he sat a year behind Alex Smith.
- 32:41Speaker 4: So those are totally different scenarios. When you're a team
- 32:43Speaker 4: like the Patriots that needs help all over the roster,
- 32:46Speaker 4: especially on offense, and you're trading and you're giving up
- 32:49Speaker 4: picks to move up in the draft, I just wouldn't.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Give you love either. If Andrew Luck is there, I
- 32:56Speaker 1: trade up and get him, even if in the current
- 32:58Speaker 1: position the Patriots are, because those guys don't come along
- 33:02Speaker 1: that often.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess maybe.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I don't think this year has those guys.
- 33:06Speaker 6: These two guys are a lot better than you think
- 33:07Speaker 6: they are, maybe.
- 33:09Speaker 7: You know, maybe, And what about the Chicago of it
- 33:11Speaker 7: all of I mean, you know, the team that actually
- 33:13Speaker 7: is probably going to have that first round pick, and
- 33:15Speaker 7: they have their quarterback playing a little better right now,
- 33:18Speaker 7: so you know, now you're talking that pick is might
- 33:20Speaker 7: be very well up for sale.
- 33:21Speaker 3: For Caleb Williams for a team that wants to go
- 33:23Speaker 3: up and get them.
- 33:24Speaker 7: So it's just it's it's complicated, it's gonna be fun.
- 33:27Speaker 6: I would definitely trade down if someone was interested, if
- 33:30Speaker 6: I were Chicago, and I would roll the dice. I mean,
- 33:32Speaker 6: it's a huge roll of the dice because who knows
- 33:34Speaker 6: with Fields even in that game Sunday through a horrific
- 33:38Speaker 6: pick in the end zone of that game. But if
- 33:42Speaker 6: you could trade down and get Marvin Harrison and a tackle,
- 33:46Speaker 6: plus you're adding picks for the trade down. Yeah, right,
- 33:50Speaker 6: And then that's a chance to all of a sudden
- 33:52Speaker 6: go from being sort of middland at seven and ten
- 33:55Speaker 6: ish to a playoff content. And you've got some especially
- 33:58Speaker 6: in that conference, right, You've got some talent a quarterback.
- 34:00Speaker 7: And if it doesn't work out with Fields next year,
- 34:01Speaker 7: all right, now we're back in the quarterback, but we
- 34:03Speaker 7: have a tackle because and we'll probably have a bad
- 34:05Speaker 7: record again, so we've got pieces and we'll try it again.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Bottom line is, I don't think it's the end of
- 34:11Speaker 1: the world that people think it is now that they
- 34:13Speaker 1: got their fourth no and this year they might beat
- 34:18Speaker 1: the Jets and have five wins. And I don't think
- 34:20Speaker 1: it's the end of the world that people think it is.
- 34:22Speaker 4: I that's that's all I'm coming from with it, too,
- 34:25Speaker 4: is I think that the hysteria that they move down
- 34:28Speaker 4: two spots in the draft. You know, to your guys's point,
- 34:30Speaker 4: if you really love a guy, you can go up
- 34:33Speaker 4: and get them, you can take them at four. Like
- 34:35Speaker 4: there's just it's just not that big of a deal.
- 34:37Speaker 4: Like I don't think that Caleb Williams and Drake may
- 34:41Speaker 4: are these two prospects. I agree with Paul. I think
- 34:43Speaker 4: they're good prospects. I think they're really gonna be, uh,
- 34:46Speaker 4: you know, potentially really good players. But is the drop
- 34:49Speaker 4: off from those two guys to Jayden Daniels all that big? No,
- 34:52Speaker 4: And if you really like Jayden Daniels that much, then
- 34:55Speaker 4: take them at four, like.
- 34:56Speaker 6: I personally think it is. I don't think this is
- 34:58Speaker 6: the end of the world either. But if you wanted
- 35:02Speaker 6: to get a quarterback, I think you had two that
- 35:05Speaker 6: are in that category. You don't think that, but that's fine.
- 35:08Speaker 6: It's not a big deal to anyone who doesn't think
- 35:10Speaker 6: the quarterbacks are any good. It is a big deal.
- 35:13Speaker 6: If defense that we heard from on Sunday we got
- 35:16Speaker 6: one after a not I think it was one hundred percent. Yeah,
- 35:19Speaker 6: every single person who called us was sort of upset
- 35:22Speaker 6: that they won because they obviously think more of the
- 35:25Speaker 6: quarterbacks than you.
- 35:26Speaker 7: Do, right, And like in Evan's put a name to
- 35:29Speaker 7: the claim, I mean, you know, I don't think I
- 35:31Speaker 7: really haven't gotten invested in them possibly getting Kleb Williams.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I just assume he's going to go first overall to whoever.
- 35:36Speaker 7: But it's like, so it's Drake May, Like that's what
- 35:38Speaker 7: you're upset about that you probably wouldn't have a shot
- 35:41Speaker 7: at Drake May unless you can trade.
- 35:43Speaker 4: Up Drake May. To me right now, I know he
- 35:47Speaker 4: gets a lot of Herbert comparisons, but when I watch him,
- 35:50Speaker 4: I see a lot more Josh Allen than I see Herbert,
- 35:53Speaker 4: where his accuracy and his consistency with his mechanics leading
- 35:58Speaker 4: to poor accuracy are our work in progress right now,
- 36:01Speaker 4: just like Alan was coming out of college. I don't
- 36:03Speaker 4: think it's quite as wild as Josh Allen was in Wyoming,
- 36:06Speaker 4: but it's it's similar, and so he's going to have
- 36:09Speaker 4: to be coached up and he's going to have to
- 36:11Speaker 4: be you know, coddled a little bit coming out. I
- 36:14Speaker 4: don't think that he's one of those guys that's a
- 36:16Speaker 4: finished product right now. And then Caleb is just Caleb,
- 36:19Speaker 4: Like he's a different kind of quarterback.
- 36:20Speaker 1: And you mentioned Alex Smith, I mean Mahomes. Not that
- 36:23Speaker 1: he wouldn't have been great anyway, but he went to
- 36:25Speaker 1: the perfect situation, offensive minded head coach, a guy he
- 36:29Speaker 1: can sit behind for a year. That's not going to
- 36:32Speaker 1: be the case here with Patriots. As far as we
- 36:34Speaker 1: know Tyreek Kill, we don't even know what kind of situation.
- 36:37Speaker 6: I have no problem if the guy sits for a
- 36:39Speaker 6: little bit.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Oh, I don't either problem. But we don't know what
- 36:42Speaker 1: situation any quarterback is going to be coming into this team.
- 36:45Speaker 1: We don't know what the team's gonna look like.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd like with Drake May, I do worry about
- 36:51Speaker 4: him playing right away because he's he's wild, Like his
- 36:54Speaker 4: accuracy is just very inconsistent, and he, like I said,
- 36:58Speaker 4: it reminds me a lot of Josh Allen, and the
- 37:00Speaker 4: Bills didn't play Josh Allen right away. You know, it
- 37:04Speaker 4: didn't work out right away with him. It didn't click
- 37:06Speaker 4: right away either. Yeah, So I just I really like
- 37:10Speaker 4: the tools are obviously really enticing, Like the guy's big, strong,
- 37:14Speaker 4: can move, has a huge arm, like all those types
- 37:16Speaker 4: of things, and he makes some throws on film that
- 37:19Speaker 4: you're really impressed with, but he's got some accuracy and
- 37:23Speaker 4: mechanical issues he's going to have to work out, and
- 37:25Speaker 4: I just don't know if that's going to happen overnight
- 37:28Speaker 4: for him. It might, but I you know, justin Herbert
- 37:30Speaker 4: fixed those things, right.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I know everyone talked about Stefan Diggs really helping him
- 37:34Speaker 1: get over the hump, but how much did Brian Dable
- 37:38Speaker 1: help him? And you know, from a coaching standpoint, you
- 37:43Speaker 1: know who helped him or what helped him the most
- 37:46Speaker 1: over in Buffalo.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but I think Brian Dable is a huge part
- 37:49Speaker 4: of it. And that's I think what worries me the
- 37:50Speaker 4: most about these quarterbacks at the top with the Patriots
- 37:53Speaker 4: is that each one of them has to be obviously,
- 37:57Speaker 4: like any player coached in a specific way, like Caleb
- 38:00Speaker 4: Williams is gonna have to be in an offense that
- 38:03Speaker 4: allows him to play playground football, and it's gonna have
- 38:06Speaker 4: to have rules within the offense of when he extends
- 38:09Speaker 4: the play and when he breaks the pocket, like this
- 38:12Speaker 4: is what we're gonna do, just like the Chiefs do
- 38:14Speaker 4: with Patrick Mahomes, like the Chiefs improvisational elements of their
- 38:18Speaker 4: offense are scripted, Like that's not just like run around
- 38:21Speaker 4: and find open space, Like, there's rules to it. So
- 38:24Speaker 4: you have to put that into the offense. And then
- 38:27Speaker 4: when you got a guy like Jaden Daniels, like, he's
- 38:30Speaker 4: gonna have to be in a very specific type of
- 38:32Speaker 4: offense that allows his legs to be a big part
- 38:35Speaker 4: of it in his mobility, like similar to what Baltimore
- 38:38Speaker 4: does with Lamar, Like, you have to build an offense
- 38:41Speaker 4: around that guy. So with Drake May, you're gonna have
- 38:44Speaker 4: to develop him as a passer. Who's gonna do that here?
- 38:47Speaker 4: Like is it gonna be Bill? Is it gonna be
- 38:49Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien? Do we trust either Bill to do that
- 38:52Speaker 4: with a young quarterback? Like those are I think major
- 38:55Speaker 4: question marks. And that's why I'm not sweating the fact that, Okay,
- 38:59Speaker 4: maybe they are going to end up with Pennix instead
- 39:01Speaker 4: of Drake May, because ultimately I think that all these
- 39:05Speaker 4: guys are going to have to be manufactured in some
- 39:08Speaker 4: sort of way, and my confidence level is kind of low,
- 39:11Speaker 4: honestly on doing that.
- 39:12Speaker 1: And the other thing about the way the Patriots are
- 39:14Speaker 1: playing of late really the way they played all season
- 39:17Speaker 1: in terms of effort, But now it's they're winning a
- 39:20Speaker 1: couple of games here, people say, well, you know, that's
- 39:23Speaker 1: gonna help Belichick's case staying with the Patriots. I don't
- 39:27Speaker 1: think as much that, but I think he is showing
- 39:30Speaker 1: the rest of the league that he can still coach,
- 39:33Speaker 1: you know. And I don't know if a lot of
- 39:34Speaker 1: people even ever question that, but in case they did,
- 39:38Speaker 1: the fact that this locker room's playing hard for him,
- 39:41Speaker 1: they're winning some football games here, I think other teams
- 39:45Speaker 1: are like, yeah, we'd like him. The thing about him
- 39:49Speaker 1: is still the offseason stuff, you know, Like, but I
- 39:53Speaker 1: think if he goes to another team, he might be
- 39:55Speaker 1: more willing to not do something he doesn't have already
- 39:58Speaker 1: with another team and just coach the team. And I
- 40:01Speaker 1: think these this last month has helped him in that
- 40:04Speaker 1: in that way.
- 40:05Speaker 7: I just think that the crazy thing to me is
- 40:07Speaker 7: I think I read that there are twelve AFC teams
- 40:08Speaker 7: that are still in the playoff hunt at this point,
- 40:11Speaker 7: and just for the Patriots not to be in that position,
- 40:13Speaker 7: given the quality of football overall this year, I think
- 40:15Speaker 7: that's just what's most surprising. To me, as Evan said,
- 40:18Speaker 7: I don't think the offense has changed all that much.
- 40:20Speaker 7: It's it's still kind of looks like it has looked.
- 40:23Speaker 7: For me, the biggest thing in Bill's favor right now
- 40:26Speaker 7: is just bar More emerging, like finally a player is
- 40:28Speaker 7: emerging into a star role like that. That that, to me,
- 40:31Speaker 7: is what it was going to take. I just I
- 40:33Speaker 7: just think it's too little, too late.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Oh I agree for here, Yeah, but I do think
- 40:38Speaker 1: that other teams, you know, say yeah, we'll take Bill.
- 40:41Speaker 7: I just think if you gave him a good team,
- 40:43Speaker 7: like you know, it's I mean, look, it's his fault
- 40:44Speaker 7: that there's no talent on the team, But if you
- 40:45Speaker 7: gave him a talented team, I still, you know, think
- 40:48Speaker 7: that he would be able to tell that team exactly
- 40:50Speaker 7: what they need to do to beat any talent.
- 40:52Speaker 1: A talented team that's coachable wants to be coached, you know,
- 40:56Speaker 1: because there are talented guys out there that they they're
- 40:59Speaker 1: not coachable. They don't want the kind of regime that
- 41:04Speaker 1: Bill would demand. Right now, maybe he'd soften up with
- 41:07Speaker 1: an I don't know, but I'm not for everyone.
- 41:10Speaker 4: I just don't I agree that Bill can still coach.
- 41:13Speaker 4: I think we all agree that with that, I mean
- 41:15Speaker 4: at least on defense, Like I don't know if he
- 41:18Speaker 4: has anything to do with offense at this point, but
- 41:20Speaker 4: I agree that he can still coach. I think the
- 41:22Speaker 4: problem is is that it's so hard to envision a
- 41:25Speaker 4: scenario where somebody else running personnel is actually running personnel
- 41:30Speaker 4: with like a new vision of how to build the team.
- 41:33Speaker 4: And that's like why I can't wrap my head around
- 41:35Speaker 4: how exactly that would work if he was just the
- 41:38Speaker 4: coach and John Robinson was the general manager or somebody else,
- 41:42Speaker 4: because ultimately that that GM is going to be picking
- 41:45Speaker 4: players to give them to Bill Bellich.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean obviously in any situation like that, the
- 41:51Speaker 1: head coach has input, of course, and they mutually agree
- 41:56Speaker 1: this is the kind of team we want go get
- 41:59Speaker 1: those types of players, right.
- 42:00Speaker 4: But it's just if you give Bill, let's say, you know,
- 42:04Speaker 4: just an example, they give Bill a receiver and that
- 42:07Speaker 4: receiver gets on the field and he's running the wrong
- 42:09Speaker 4: routes and he's and he's fumbling you know the ball,
- 42:14Speaker 4: Bill's gonna bench him. Okay, So if you give him
- 42:17Speaker 4: a running back and he can't pick up a blitz
- 42:19Speaker 4: Bill's not going to play him. If you give him
- 42:21Speaker 4: a two d and twenty five pound linebacker, Bill's gonna
- 42:24Speaker 4: make him a safety, right And so at the end
- 42:26Speaker 4: of the day, the guy that's going to be picking
- 42:28Speaker 4: the personnel is going to have to pick personnel that
- 42:31Speaker 4: fit what Bill want wants him to do. And that's
- 42:33Speaker 4: the problem, is that the what Bill wants to do,
- 42:36Speaker 4: especially on offense, is not working well.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Like I said, maybe in another team he loosens up
- 42:41Speaker 1: a little bit and you know, his philosophy and and
- 42:44Speaker 1: maybe maybe he plays the linebacker as a linebacker. You know,
- 42:48Speaker 1: I don't know, but I I it's I don't know.
- 42:51Speaker 1: I think I know, I think some other teams would
- 42:55Speaker 1: benefit from having him.
- 42:56Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's almost a cliche at this point
- 42:59Speaker 7: of almost like what happened with Brady, where you know,
- 43:01Speaker 7: he just he went to a team that was sitting
- 43:03Speaker 7: and waiting and just kind of needed this guy to
- 43:05Speaker 7: come in and not only play great, but also just
- 43:07Speaker 7: do instill the belief that this team.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Could win it all.
- 43:09Speaker 7: You know, And I know the Chargers are an easy
- 43:11Speaker 7: one and I don't necessarily think that's gonna happen.
- 43:13Speaker 3: But that's if you were gonna paint it out.
- 43:15Speaker 7: It's like, all right, well, here's like, you know, kind
- 43:16Speaker 7: of this loosey, goosey talented team from California, and Bill's
- 43:20Speaker 7: gonna come in and he's gonna instill discipline and you know,
- 43:23Speaker 7: and the game plans that they need to get over.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Think about when Brady came here, they had Bledsoe. Bledsoe
- 43:27Speaker 1: was the guy. He had just been signed to one
- 43:29Speaker 1: hundred million dollar contract. But Bill, he wasn't Bill's guy.
- 43:34Speaker 1: He was the crafts guy. Bledsoe Bledsoe was here before Bill,
- 43:38Speaker 1: you know, and he was the crafts guy. He had
- 43:40Speaker 1: a direct line of communication to ownership. So Brady comes
- 43:44Speaker 1: in and you know, you see that sign that he
- 43:47Speaker 1: can play, and then he proves it. Bill was more
- 43:50Speaker 1: than happy to make him the starting quarterback because now
- 43:52Speaker 1: he's my guy. He does it the way I wanted
- 43:55Speaker 1: to do. He's beholden to me. Six round pick didn't
- 43:58Speaker 1: come in here with you know, you know, the gravitaze
- 44:02Speaker 1: that you know, a first overall pick would have. He
- 44:05Speaker 1: was the perfect guy for Bill, you know, and Bill
- 44:08Speaker 1: likes those type of players. You know.
- 44:10Speaker 4: I do wonder though, I mean, I know you said
- 44:12Speaker 4: that you don't feel this way about if they finish
- 44:15Speaker 4: out the year strong. And I went into that locker
- 44:18Speaker 4: room after that win against Denver on Christmas Eve, and
- 44:21Speaker 4: that's not a locker room that's like checked out.
- 44:24Speaker 1: On they they opposite.
- 44:27Speaker 4: I mean, you see the video that we put out.
- 44:29Speaker 4: I know, you know, that was genuine. Like I know
- 44:31Speaker 4: a lot of people think that that's like manufact It wasn't. Like,
- 44:34Speaker 4: that's a genuine reaction. Those guys are are playing hard
- 44:39Speaker 4: for their coaches, for Bill, for each other, obviously too
- 44:42Speaker 4: in themselves, but like I really feel like they had
- 44:46Speaker 4: all the reason in the world to get blown out
- 44:48Speaker 4: in Denver on Sunday night.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, And people say, you know, you can play hard,
- 44:53Speaker 1: but check out. In other words, you're not playing mentally strong.
- 44:57Speaker 1: You don't care as much. You know, Like if you
- 45:00Speaker 1: don't play hard, you're gonna get killed. In the NFL,
- 45:02Speaker 1: You're gonna get hurt, you know, if you're not going
- 45:04Speaker 1: at one hundred percent speed. But going at one hundred
- 45:07Speaker 1: percent speed doesn't mean you're always playing smart, you know,
- 45:10Speaker 1: And that's what checking out means, and that's how you
- 45:12Speaker 1: lose football games. But I think with this team they're
- 45:16Speaker 1: they're yeah, they're they're not talent wise, they're not that great,
- 45:20Speaker 1: but they're playing hard. They're playing up to their mental capability,
- 45:24Speaker 1: you know, and that includes making some dumb mistakes at times.
- 45:27Speaker 1: But you know, there's no quit in this team right now.
- 45:31Speaker 1: And that's a testament to the coaching staff and Bill Belichick.
- 45:35Speaker 1: And if I'm an owner of another team, I look
- 45:38Speaker 1: at that, you know the fact that he's got these
- 45:41Speaker 1: guys playing as hard as you know they can, as
- 45:45Speaker 1: if they were in the playoff hunt, and that means something.
- 45:48Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, it doesn't.
- 45:49Speaker 7: I mean I made the point them up Barmore, and
- 45:51Speaker 7: I mean I would I would throw some of these
- 45:52Speaker 7: rookies who are starting. I mean Marty Mapu forcing another fumble.
- 45:56Speaker 7: You know, he's not getting a lot of chances, But
- 45:57Speaker 7: I mean, Pop Douglas just set the record for rookie
- 46:00Speaker 7: receptions under Belichick.
- 46:01Speaker 3: The key on White had probably an underrated game.
- 46:04Speaker 7: So you know, I think those are the things to
- 46:06Speaker 7: me that that stand out, you know, not necessarily even
- 46:08Speaker 7: that they're still playing hard for him, but just that
- 46:10Speaker 7: players are getting better and players are starting to make plays,
- 46:14Speaker 7: and that that's the only way, like I mean we
- 46:15Speaker 7: can talk about Bill and who's going to be the
- 46:18Speaker 7: GM and all that stuff, and the bottom line is
- 46:19Speaker 7: that they need the players to play better and to
- 46:22Speaker 7: be better, and if they show signs of that, then
- 46:24Speaker 7: you know, that's reason for a little bit of optimism
- 46:27Speaker 7: and maybe second guessing of what the future might hold.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, we talked about it. I think there's
- 46:31Speaker 1: a bunch of players on this defense that I'd love
- 46:34Speaker 1: to have on my team going forward. And I think
- 46:36Speaker 1: there's got some dogs. You know, we're looking for silver lining. Yeah,
- 46:39Speaker 1: you know, Paul had to go to shoot something for
- 46:42Speaker 1: All Access. He'll be back in Evan the same thing.
- 46:44Speaker 3: He's shooting something. So Paul'll be back. I'll leave, you know,
- 46:47Speaker 3: we'll just still get a little rotating.
- 46:48Speaker 1: All right, chairs here, let's let's we got people calling in,
- 46:51Speaker 1: we got people emailing in. So let's get to that
- 46:55Speaker 1: eight five to five. Pats five hundred is the eight
- 46:57Speaker 1: ticket hot line. Web radio at patries dot com is
- 47:00Speaker 1: email address. Let's get to the phones. Willem and fell
- 47:02Speaker 1: them is on the phone. What's up? William?
- 47:04Speaker 3: Hey, William, pay for it?
- 47:06Speaker 9: Pay for it?
- 47:06Speaker 10: And Mike, how y'all doing all right? Happy holidays, see y'all. Okay,
- 47:10Speaker 10: all right, I just heard Evan talking. I wanted to
- 47:14Speaker 10: ask him something so bad. Okay, so you wouldn't trade
- 47:18Speaker 10: He wouldn't trade up to get the quarterback that you want.
- 47:21Speaker 10: I don't want Michael Pennick honestly because his injuries scared me,
- 47:25Speaker 10: you know what I mean.
- 47:25Speaker 9: I mean, he's a deep throw, passing all it, I get.
- 47:28Speaker 10: It, but his injuries just just gives me. But if
- 47:30Speaker 10: you like Drake, make like you said, fred or Keayler Williams.
- 47:33Speaker 11: Or go get him.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Yeah, go get him.
- 47:36Speaker 10: Yeah, it's just just that simple. I just wanted to
- 47:39Speaker 10: ask him though, like, like, okay, so if we had
- 47:43Speaker 10: number four, but you wouldn't trade to go get him.
- 47:45Speaker 10: M though two was better when we were sitting at though.
- 47:48Speaker 9: But you're sitting there four.
- 47:51Speaker 8: You need a quarterback.
- 47:52Speaker 10: I mean, what do you what do you want to do?
- 47:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it all depends on what you like. And like
- 47:57Speaker 1: you said, if you really think that Drake is going
- 48:00Speaker 1: to be the guy, he's your quarterback for the next decade,
- 48:03Speaker 1: go get him. Go get him, because he ain't gonna
- 48:06Speaker 1: be in next year's draft. He's in this year's draft, you.
- 48:09Speaker 7: Know, yes, and I would say too, like this is
- 48:11Speaker 7: a guy you want to make the face of your
- 48:12Speaker 7: franchise too that you know, that's part of it too.
- 48:14Speaker 7: If you you know, really like the kid and you
- 48:16Speaker 7: think that he's gonna you know, present the brand, well,
- 48:18Speaker 7: can you be right of it?
- 48:19Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 48:19Speaker 3: You can be wrong, but you know, but you got
- 48:22Speaker 3: to do it, go down, taking a big swing.
- 48:24Speaker 1: You got to do it. Yeah, thanks William. All right,
- 48:27Speaker 1: happy holidays, Thanks William. When do you start saying Happy
- 48:30Speaker 1: New Year today?
- 48:33Speaker 6: Right?
- 48:33Speaker 1: You're not supposed to say.
- 48:34Speaker 3: It until it happens we're still in happy Yeah.
- 48:36Speaker 7: I think until uh mixed one of six point seven
- 48:39Speaker 7: switches over from all holidays, that's when you got so
- 48:41Speaker 7: you can say.
- 48:41Speaker 1: It like the day after and then for two weeks
- 48:44Speaker 1: I just say Mary New Year. I think that's the
- 48:46Speaker 1: Emily Post etiquette for saying Happy New Year. Uh. Michael's
- 48:50Speaker 1: in Vermont? What's up, Michael?
- 48:52Speaker 8: Not much?
- 48:53Speaker 1: How you guys going to that? Okay?
- 48:54Speaker 3: Hello Michael.
- 48:56Speaker 8: I want to go back to where you guys talk
- 48:58Speaker 8: about the coach.
- 48:58Speaker 1: M Yeah.
- 49:00Speaker 12: I think if we can get a new GM and
- 49:02Speaker 12: Lot Belichick's be the coach, we would be a lot
- 49:05Speaker 12: better well, he's not focusing on both GM and coach.
- 49:09Speaker 1: As long as he's bought in.
- 49:10Speaker 7: I agree, I agree too, but I feel like the
- 49:13Speaker 7: majority of the work of the GM is done in
- 49:15Speaker 7: the off season.
- 49:15Speaker 1: There in a year. What's that? I'm sorry, sorry, Mike
- 49:19Speaker 1: was talking next year, Zay, So you think they shouldn't
- 49:23Speaker 1: be looking for a new quarterback. You think they've got
- 49:26Speaker 1: the quarterback.
- 49:27Speaker 8: I think, personally, we got a good quarterback.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's I disagree with that.
- 49:32Speaker 7: I I mean I I I mostly disagree, but I
- 49:35Speaker 7: would just say, you know, if you draft a guy
- 49:36Speaker 7: that you feel like you need to sit for a
- 49:38Speaker 7: little while, I think, you know, there are worse things
- 49:40Speaker 7: than Ben Zappy.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Yeah, you know. I just I don't know.
- 49:42Speaker 7: I think, look two games and I know we're not
- 49:44Speaker 7: gonna I don't want to make definitive judgment over these
- 49:46Speaker 7: last two games, but like he's got some strides to make,
- 49:48Speaker 7: and the experience counts for a lot, and he has
- 49:50Speaker 7: gotten better in every game.
- 49:51Speaker 3: And look, at the end.
- 49:53Speaker 7: Of the day, if he's just a backup, it's still
- 49:54Speaker 7: a valuable piece to the team. So I'm in no
- 49:56Speaker 7: rush to get rid of Bailey ZAPPI for sure, we'll
- 49:58Speaker 7: just let him fight, let him fight for compete.
- 50:00Speaker 1: All right, thanks Michael, appreciate the call. Let's go to
- 50:03Speaker 1: Chris in New Hampshire. What's up, Chris, Hey.
- 50:06Speaker 12: Brose, thanks taking my call. Yeah, I just want to say,
- 50:09Speaker 12: o craft trades Bill. I was okay with letting him, like,
- 50:14Speaker 12: you know, go on his own terms, but the team's
- 50:16Speaker 12: such a dumpster fire. Now you gotta get something for him.
- 50:19Speaker 12: That team's a dumpster fire because.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Well sorry, yeah, no, no, I keep going. I just
- 50:24Speaker 1: don't think. I think I don't think they can draft him.
- 50:27Speaker 1: I don't mean, like rules wise, I just don't think
- 50:31Speaker 1: it would work out, you know.
- 50:33Speaker 12: Oh, I mean I'm sure. I hope they can find
- 50:35Speaker 12: a way, But I mean the team's dumpster fire, and
- 50:38Speaker 12: Bill is the one that bought the dumpster, filled a
- 50:40Speaker 12: pull of trash and said on fire. So to let
- 50:43Speaker 12: him walk for nothing to me is like I know
- 50:46Speaker 12: I got something for him, especially if he's worth something
- 50:50Speaker 12: somebody else. Because the way it's looking this team, I
- 50:54Speaker 12: wouldn't be surprised I at another top five to ten
- 50:56Speaker 12: pick next year's draft.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Yeah, in order to train, he's got to want to
- 51:01Speaker 1: go there and the other team has to want him,
- 51:03Speaker 1: and you know you have to. I mean, but no,
- 51:06Speaker 1: I don't. He doesn't have to do anything. You could
- 51:08Speaker 1: just retire. He could, he could.
- 51:10Speaker 12: What I'm saying is like, if can the craft basically
- 51:13Speaker 12: like a power move and be like, sorry, Bill, you're
- 51:15Speaker 12: going uh, I don't know Jacksonville TFB.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Yeah, they could say that if Jacksonville really wanted him
- 51:22Speaker 1: and made the Crafts an offer, that is okay. They
- 51:25Speaker 1: could do that, But then Bill could say I'm not
- 51:27Speaker 1: going right, like, yeah.
- 51:28Speaker 12: Well by retiring, doesn't I get him out of paying them?
- 51:32Speaker 12: So either you trade him somewhere? Yeah, him retire yep.
- 51:36Speaker 4: I just they're not doing that.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I try. I struggle seeing them play hard ball
- 51:40Speaker 3: with him.
- 51:40Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean, he retired, but so the rights to him,
- 51:43Speaker 13: they they would.
- 51:44Speaker 12: The Crafts have the rights to Belichick if Belichick retires
- 51:48Speaker 12: instead of going where they trade them to.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Yeah, they would, But but do you really want to
- 51:52Speaker 1: do that with a coach that you know you won
- 51:55Speaker 1: six Super Bowls with went to nine.
- 51:58Speaker 12: I was all set to honor Bill, but this team
- 52:01Speaker 12: is such a dumpster fire that you gotta get something
- 52:04Speaker 12: for him if it was built by somebody else, and
- 52:09Speaker 12: he was just driving a bus that exploded, that's one thing.
- 52:12Speaker 12: But he, like I said, he he set the dumpster
- 52:15Speaker 12: on fire.
- 52:15Speaker 1: Yeah, but he also he also, you know, was the
- 52:19Speaker 1: head coach of the greatest dynasty in the NFL. So
- 52:21Speaker 1: does that mean any of that?
- 52:23Speaker 12: I mean, uh, not to me, to me, not currently?
- 52:27Speaker 1: No, Okay, so get something.
- 52:29Speaker 12: So I'm grateful for Bill, but get someone for him
- 52:32Speaker 12: if you can, if you can.
- 52:34Speaker 1: But I just I don't think it's realistic. I think
- 52:37Speaker 1: it would be a drawn out thing, and the Patriots
- 52:39Speaker 1: have stuff to do.
- 52:41Speaker 3: I think I think.
- 52:42Speaker 1: You just let him go.
- 52:43Speaker 4: But I just like, I think it's funny how he
- 52:46Speaker 4: built this dumpster fire. But now a team is going
- 52:48Speaker 4: to all of a sudden give up something of value
- 52:50Speaker 4: for Bill, Like you can't. He's either a good coach
- 52:52Speaker 4: or he's not. But besides the.
- 52:54Speaker 12: Point, I agree with you too. As a fan who
- 52:58Speaker 12: followed the team pretty closely, I don't know what what
- 53:01Speaker 12: team would hands Bill the keys to their team.
- 53:04Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, I just don't think.
- 53:07Speaker 12: The thing where it's like, you got some silly stuff
- 53:09Speaker 12: going on and you want to just like tight some
- 53:11Speaker 12: stuff up, but in reality, you don't get that with Bill,
- 53:14Speaker 12: you have to hand over the entire keys to the
- 53:16Speaker 12: Castle of Bill.
- 53:17Speaker 1: We assume that, but like you know, there is a
- 53:19Speaker 1: possibility that on another team, he'd be willing to have
- 53:23Speaker 1: a more traditional setup.
- 53:25Speaker 4: Yeah, as much as I would love to get the
- 53:28Speaker 4: most you possibly can for him, and if it like
- 53:30Speaker 4: works out that way, then great. I just think that
- 53:32Speaker 4: there has to be some sort of similar to how
- 53:36Speaker 4: it ended with Brady. I know people disagree on this
- 53:39Speaker 4: topic all the time, but they could have tried to
- 53:42Speaker 4: play hardball with Tom Brady and they didn't out of
- 53:45Speaker 4: respect for what he did here for twenty years. And
- 53:48Speaker 4: I think it's the same thing with Bill. Like to
- 53:51Speaker 4: say to trade him to you know who knows where
- 53:54Speaker 4: and just say like you have to go here and
- 53:56Speaker 4: we got this bet, you know whatever, Like that's that's
- 53:59Speaker 4: really disrespeckful to the guy that's done as much for
- 54:03Speaker 4: this organization. I just don't I just don't see that.
- 54:05Speaker 4: I don't see the Crafts playing hardball like that with Bill.
- 54:10Speaker 12: The one thing I would say is I think the
- 54:13Speaker 12: interesting if someone treated Bill the way Bill treated all players,
- 54:17Speaker 12: contink Bill was like the whole get rid of them
- 54:20Speaker 12: before they're a problem. Thing, Like, it'd be interesting if
- 54:23Speaker 12: someone was like, hey, Bill, guess what we're gonna do
- 54:25Speaker 12: you Now, there's been a bunch of players that left,
- 54:29Speaker 12: got traded, walked.
- 54:31Speaker 14: Yecause they were a year.
- 54:32Speaker 13: Or two late.
- 54:32Speaker 8: Thing.
- 54:33Speaker 12: But yeah, hey, guys, I appreciate you taking my call.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Okay, thanks, Chris, appreciate it. Let's go to David in
- 54:39Speaker 1: Rhode Island. Hey David, Hey, Hello, hey, Hey.
- 54:45Speaker 8: The only thing I have to say, like, what's like,
- 54:48Speaker 8: I'm a New England patrioton in and out, but what
- 54:51Speaker 8: the hell is going with all of these casuals that
- 54:53Speaker 8: don't know anything about football? Even if you got rid
- 54:55Speaker 8: of Belichick, who were you going to replace him with?
- 54:58Speaker 8: Why would you go with j Ron Mayo or anybody
- 55:01Speaker 8: else that's in the same coaching tree. It's basically the
- 55:03Speaker 8: same product.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Yep.
- 55:05Speaker 8: I just don't understand that. And at the end of
- 55:06Speaker 8: the day, you guys keep complaining and disgracing Mac Jones.
- 55:11Speaker 8: But what did he do so different than what Zacy did?
- 55:13Speaker 8: They both want two games apiece. Yeah, but what does
- 55:16Speaker 8: it really matter?
- 55:17Speaker 4: I mean, you've said that right, It's not that much different.
- 55:20Speaker 1: Yeah, So I hear what you're saying. David, So what's
- 55:24Speaker 1: your solution here. Obviously it sounds like you want a
- 55:28Speaker 1: new quarterback. I get that, but what about the coaching position?
- 55:31Speaker 8: This is what I think, and it's common sense. And
- 55:33Speaker 8: if you pay attention to listen to even what the
- 55:35Speaker 8: former players are saying, even if you listen to something
- 55:38Speaker 8: that Shane Vereen even saidn't even down to mc cordy,
- 55:40Speaker 8: you can't really give Mac Jones a fair assessment if
- 55:43Speaker 8: they're giving them garbage pieces guys that are just coming
- 55:47Speaker 8: out of Norfolk County working on the friar lator trying
- 55:49Speaker 8: to play football. No, you need to put if we
- 55:52Speaker 8: can get like a Marvin Harrison junior builder offensive line
- 55:55Speaker 8: and get pieces around him, and if he stinks and
- 55:58Speaker 8: shoots the bettsest part of my oh, and it's fair
- 56:00Speaker 8: to say than all right, then it's a failed product.
- 56:03Speaker 8: But he's still on his rookie deal and you didn't
- 56:05Speaker 8: do him any justice. He had two different offensive coordinators
- 56:08Speaker 8: in a couple of years. You're giving them Matt Patricia
- 56:10Speaker 8: that God knows.
- 56:11Speaker 1: Okay, So you're saying that there's still there's still a
- 56:14Speaker 1: chance that Mac could be the guy. God?
- 56:16Speaker 8: Yeah, because yeah, because at the end of the day,
- 56:18Speaker 8: what did he do that? I was still what does
- 56:20Speaker 8: Zappi do that was so special? All right, Mac Jones.
- 56:23Speaker 1: But I don't think that it's not a binary choice.
- 56:25Speaker 1: I don't think that. I don't think we're saying it's
- 56:27Speaker 1: Mac or Zappi. Most people are saying it's neither.
- 56:32Speaker 8: Nah. I honestly think that the kid deserves a fair chance.
- 56:36Speaker 8: My personal opinion, if I was to get a quarterback,
- 56:38Speaker 8: I would go Jalen Daniel in the draft, and then
- 56:41Speaker 8: you build around them. You have a couple of pieces.
- 56:43Speaker 8: You've got kay Shaun Boody. Why he's not playing, I
- 56:46Speaker 8: don't know why. The other kid Douglas is good. You
- 56:49Speaker 8: gotta get rid of Juju and the other guy, Parker,
- 56:52Speaker 8: the pieces of him for those guys, and you just
- 56:54Speaker 8: need to get other pieces of players that can develop
- 56:56Speaker 8: and create separations so you can go we have a
- 56:59Speaker 8: championship beef and we're a couple of pieces of weight.
- 57:01Speaker 8: It's just that people seem to forget and one things
- 57:04Speaker 8: are going bad. It's really not that bad. Still, as
- 57:07Speaker 8: a GM, he didn't do so much. He didn't do
- 57:10Speaker 8: as good. The way he drives defense is kind of
- 57:12Speaker 8: the way he drives offense, and he thinks everybody's expendable,
- 57:16Speaker 8: and that's not how it should be. You got now
- 57:18Speaker 8: he has with that, and get players that you know
- 57:20Speaker 8: that can create separation and that can get it put
- 57:23Speaker 8: points on the board.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Okay, David, I appreciate the call.
- 57:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I had some questions for him about would you
- 57:32Speaker 7: still be playing Mac?
- 57:33Speaker 3: Do you think?
- 57:33Speaker 1: I mean?
- 57:34Speaker 7: I mean, look, I don't think that Devonte Parker is
- 57:36Speaker 7: the number one that everybody wants, but like, the guy
- 57:38Speaker 7: just made like two huge catches and helped you get
- 57:40Speaker 7: in position to win a game, and you can't get
- 57:43Speaker 7: rid of him if any faster right now? Does Max
- 57:46Speaker 7: still deserve more of a chance? Like, and I get,
- 57:49Speaker 7: like we talk, it's not that much better. But I'm
- 57:50Speaker 7: sorry Mac was broken and you think that like it's
- 57:53Speaker 7: everyone else's fault and like as much as.
- 57:55Speaker 3: We temper it with, well, it hasn't looked all that different.
- 57:58Speaker 7: Well I'm sorry, Like Billy Zappy has helped this win
- 58:00Speaker 7: two games in the last four weeks, and I'm not
- 58:01Speaker 7: saying it was all on him, but Mac, they gave
- 58:04Speaker 7: him chance after chance after chance, and he kept making
- 58:07Speaker 7: stupid plays that just cannot be played in the league,
- 58:09Speaker 7: so I you know, and I.
- 58:10Speaker 3: Just it just pisses me off.
- 58:12Speaker 7: The people are like they come in like I'm the
- 58:14Speaker 7: football Oh you casuals. All the casuals out there like like, no,
- 58:18Speaker 7: this is that's what God, No, that's the that's the
- 58:21Speaker 7: new insult. As in like I sit in my mighty
- 58:23Speaker 7: football perch. I watch every game seven times a week,
- 58:26Speaker 7: and anyone else who doesn't do that doesn't know.
- 58:28Speaker 3: And you're just a casual fan. And then you come
- 58:30Speaker 3: in and you tell me, well, we.
- 58:31Speaker 7: Got to get rid of Devonte Parker, the guy that
- 58:33Speaker 7: just made the biggest catching a game in Denver to
- 58:35Speaker 7: win the game.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Like you know, David coaches Pop one.
- 58:39Speaker 4: I would just I would all push back. Not whatever
- 58:43Speaker 4: he said he said about all that stuff, but like
- 58:45Speaker 4: this notion that girod. Mayo would be the exact same
- 58:48Speaker 4: coach as Bill I think is really far off base.
- 58:51Speaker 4: And I'm not saying Mao is the answer. I'm or
- 58:53Speaker 4: like my first choice or whatever. If you want to
- 58:56Speaker 4: hire from outside the tree. I totally get that. But
- 58:59Speaker 4: you to the players and the guys that are actually
- 59:02Speaker 4: being coached by Gerard Mayo, and he's a totally different
- 59:05Speaker 4: person than Bill is. The words that you were used
- 59:08Speaker 4: to describe him are like players coach, right, like big brother, right,
- 59:14Speaker 4: you know, like those types.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Of Yeah, anything you know of Gerard Mayo. Now, you
- 59:19Speaker 1: can't put in the bank that that's how he'll be
- 59:21Speaker 1: if he's the head coach.
- 59:22Speaker 4: I'm just saying that I think that his personality just
- 59:25Speaker 4: naturally is really a lot. Maybe he looks at the
- 59:29Speaker 4: game defensively similarly to Bill, or like the way to
- 59:32Speaker 4: prepare and the way to game plan and like all
- 59:35Speaker 4: that kind of stuff, But in terms of like how
- 59:37Speaker 4: he interacts with his players and his whole just persona,
- 59:41Speaker 4: I think is just significantly different than that. And I
- 59:46Speaker 4: will hand it off to Paul.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Now, okay, let's go to Jasper in Summerville. What's up Jasper?
- 59:53Speaker 14: Hey, guys, first on caller, love the show and thanks
- 59:58Speaker 14: for taking my call. I agree with the kind of
- 1:00:02Speaker 14: the doomsayers saying, oh well there goes Kleb Williams. That's
- 1:00:06Speaker 14: ridiculous to me. I think the wins the morale is
- 1:00:10Speaker 14: worth more than the pick, if that makes sense. Like,
- 1:00:14Speaker 14: it just feels good, especially to see far more go off. Yea,
- 1:00:19Speaker 14: But for me, I kind of limit you know what
- 1:00:21Speaker 14: you were saying, Like, h Patriots are kind of maybe
- 1:00:26Speaker 14: a little agnostic. They have a they have they have
- 1:00:28Speaker 14: teers and boards and fourth pick, second pick, you know,
- 1:00:32Speaker 14: but if we had the second pick, think about how
- 1:00:34Speaker 14: exciting it could be to trade that get future first
- 1:00:37Speaker 14: or first, like to first. I just feel like the
- 1:00:40Speaker 14: options there are just so much more exciting.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, yeah, and that's.
- 1:00:45Speaker 14: That's my statement. Thanks for the show, Love you guys.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Thanks, thanks Jasper.
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: I like Jasper's way of thinking, Yeah, what more options?
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: How you are the more options you have, it doesn't
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: have to be about just taking a guy.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I just this team needs a lot
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: of work.
- 1:01:00Speaker 7: Like I mean, I think anybody that thinks even if
- 1:01:02Speaker 7: they had the first overall pick that they'd be right
- 1:01:04Speaker 7: back in the hunt immediately, it's.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: A little bit of a stretch to me, but it
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: can get you back in the hunt, No, for sure.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: But I still think you can make a pick of
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: four that can get you back in the hunt too.
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: But my point is, like, let's say Fred's right, and
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: Caleb Williams and Drake may are just two more of
- 1:01:19Speaker 6: the best in this particular class. But nothing special. And
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: the Patriots think that too. Well, the higher you pick,
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: the more you're gonna get for your pick. If so,
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: if you deem Caleb Williams's I mean, everybody wants them,
- 1:01:33Speaker 6: but I don't see it. I'm going to get two
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: first round picks in the future. Second and do what
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: Chicago did. Yeah, like that's the higher you picked, the
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: more valuable you pick. It is.
- 1:01:44Speaker 7: And the Texans but that takes real cojones to do that.
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: And I'm sure everyone would absolutely kill them if they
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: traded the second overall pick and they you know, I
- 1:01:52Speaker 7: mean if people are mad that you're not that you're
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: picking four instead of two and they, but when you're
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: in two and you traded too, it's a I just
- 1:01:59Speaker 7: there's a lot of work to be done. Well, I mean,
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: we'll get into all the draft stuff, but I just
- 1:02:03Speaker 7: think that no, and I and I mean, and then
- 1:02:05Speaker 7: who doesn't want to be Houston last year? Who doesn't
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: want to come away with C. J. Stroud and will
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: Anderson and you you know? And now, but you had
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: to bite the bullet.
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: I understand. That's how it worked. You got Stroud and
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: no one saw Stroud being this good, this fast, okay,
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: but by training down in accumulating picks, your message is
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: we need a lot. We need probably a couple of
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: tackles and a couple of receivers and some depth on
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: defense everywhere, but safety, like they need a lot.
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, but don't you think that's more realistic though,
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: to trade down from four than two?
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: No, it's not worth as much.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Only if you know it depends on who you like.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: It's not realistic if you believe that Drake made the guy.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: It is realistic. If you need a lot and you're
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: not convinced that either one is the guy, that it's
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: more realistic.
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: That's not what he What do he say? He he's saying,
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: like you can trade down from four?
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it has not formiliar where.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: Right, No, you can, but I think two is worth
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: more than four. It will get you more picks. Right's
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: not going to do with Drake many?
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: No, I know. But why do you say it's more
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: realistic to trade down.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: From Because he thinks the backlash from passing up one
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: on one of those guys is bad well.
- 1:03:19Speaker 7: And that there's also just a certain level and this
- 1:03:21Speaker 7: I think exists through the you know, for like the
- 1:03:23Speaker 7: top first half of the first round is you're if
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: you're in that position, you're almost obligated to take a
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: quarterback if there's one slotted in that spot like that, if.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: You think they're going to be your future.
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: But even if you don't, like, even if like, do
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: you think that every every top ten pick, that every
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: team that selected all the you know, the tree lances,
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: that has a conviction this.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: Is went you went from the top two to top ten.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: Well it' said top fifteen was what I said. The
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: point was, if you're in the.
- 1:03:47Speaker 7: Top fifteen and you need a quarterback, mac Jones, you're
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: kind of obligated to take one. Like it's it's it's
- 1:03:53Speaker 7: just it's like no one could wrap their head around
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: them being it too and trading out to Drake Man because.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: That's a bad way to run my same person another apartment.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I don't want to be obligated to do anything. I
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: want to do it because I believe.
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: It, and I don't think I don't think. I do
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: think that teams take quarter they they talk themselves into quarterbacks.
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: I think Mike is right. I don't think that you
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: have to take a quart You can't trade because you
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: have to take a quarterback. If you think Caleb Williams
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: is everything but the other guys are just met, then
- 1:04:22Speaker 6: you don't have to take the other guys. Now, you
- 1:04:25Speaker 6: can talk yourself into it. And I'm sure there's been
- 1:04:27Speaker 6: a you know, a litany of teams that have done that,
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: we think, and probably some of those teams that talk
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: themselves into a guy that they didn't really love probably
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: were rewarded for it. They They probably weren't all like
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: Blake Gordles, he's raw. But you know, that's probably not
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: a great example because they trade it up.
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: With Josh Rose in the other end of the stottum
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: right now, where you're just like, well, he's the number
- 1:04:51Speaker 7: three guy.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: We need a quarterback.
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: He's the you know, then we got those kinds of guys,
- 1:04:56Speaker 7: and that's you know, how what is the conviction like
- 1:04:58Speaker 7: for I mean, and it's easy when you're picking one
- 1:05:00Speaker 7: or two and there's.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: Two or three quarterbacks and you know, all right, it's easy
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: to talk yourself into it.
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: But you know, I think to to the bigger point,
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: it's just like, yeah, sure, when you're sitting at one
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: or two and you got your pick of the litter.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's a little bit easier.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: We've had a lot of calls, Paul, A lot of
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: good calls.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: Missed some good ones.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Yeah, let's go to Eldred and Charlotte. What's up Eldred Aldred?
- 1:05:23Speaker 15: Hey, Hey, could y'all hear me?
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:05:25Speaker 15: Ump in the mountains.
- 1:05:26Speaker 8: I might lose you in the mountains.
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: Okay, but we'll roll the dice.
- 1:05:32Speaker 15: I ain't gonna say it that much, y'all. Drafting, I
- 1:05:34Speaker 15: don't know. But what kiars me the most here we
- 1:05:37Speaker 15: keep winning and they're not gonna change nothing, and the
- 1:05:40Speaker 15: GM is still here.
- 1:05:41Speaker 6: That's that's a whole different that's a whole different element
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: of this, and it's very interesting, very interesting. I'll relay
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: some of the conversation we just had as we were shooting.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Okay, let's let's hear that.
- 1:05:53Speaker 15: But instead, though I watched Drake May I told y'all,
- 1:05:57Speaker 15: and eat him on a note.
- 1:06:00Speaker 13: They're consistent.
- 1:06:00Speaker 15: Now he can run, yeah, you know, he can go
- 1:06:03Speaker 15: a little deep, but he'll think it's no I keep saying,
- 1:06:05Speaker 15: Michael Pennick, like I said, like the way he played,
- 1:06:09Speaker 15: I like like like you in New Weather, like like
- 1:06:11Speaker 15: New England. And then you'll see New Year's day.
- 1:06:14Speaker 13: It gets Texas, what do you look like?
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: What he played?
- 1:06:16Speaker 16: Like?
- 1:06:17Speaker 15: I've been watching Tomorrow all year or two. So Drake
- 1:06:19Speaker 15: May and Caleb william He don't toe you don't want
- 1:06:22Speaker 15: to play in New England. But if y'all want to
- 1:06:24Speaker 15: go draft mem if you won't, probably doing another.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: They're not going to have an opportunity to draft either
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: one of those guys, So it doesn't really matter. They're
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: not They're not getting up to one. Caleb Williams is
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: not that is not going to be available to the Patriots.
- 1:06:37Speaker 15: No, maybe not, but but like I said, if he
- 1:06:41Speaker 15: is who they picked, well I wish you everybody look
- 1:06:44Speaker 15: there the opposite Becking root for him too, but not
- 1:06:47Speaker 15: the guy I will go with.
- 1:06:48Speaker 13: But y'all have a good one.
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: All right, Thanks, thanks big E. Yeah, I mean I
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: just don't the Chicago thing. If they hold onto the
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: pick and they you know, are they really going to
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: take Marvin Harrison at one?
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: Does that make sense to people?
- 1:07:01Speaker 7: I'm thinking yeah, like, and it's hard to trade down
- 1:07:04Speaker 7: if you believe in justin fields.
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: Maybe it does, no, But I just think that there's
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: so much more value in that pick than to take
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: a wide receiver at one, but.
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: It's hard to trade down past three and think you
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: could get him, you know, Like, I mean, he's probably
- 1:07:17Speaker 7: gonna go in those first three picks.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: So what was the convo? I don't want to hear.
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: No, just that like, has the wind changed anything, you
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: know in terms of your thoughts?
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: And I just like, who are the speakers here? Were
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: you talking?
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: It's the crew, It's Steve Burton, it's Mike Matt Smith.
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: Just the to me that my answer is always the same.
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: It's like they asked me, does this change anything for you?
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: And I said for me, no, what did you think that?
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: And I said, did you think before the Denver game
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: that he was gone? And if the answer is yes,
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: then I don't see how anything changes. If you didn't
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: know heading into the Denver game and you're saying, well,
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: you know, I'm on the fence. They've played really hard,
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: they've won two out of three. Maybe he's saving his job,
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: that's what you think. Like if you think he was
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: gone before the Denver game, and then they beat Denver
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: in a meaningless game, and that's changing your opinion. And
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: not only they beat Denver in a meaningless game, but
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: let's let's call it for what it was. They were
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: less bad than Denver. Yeah right, I mean that was
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: another common theme for our post games, like there was
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: a craptastic game of mistakes that we made one fewer
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: than they did, and they ended up winning the game
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: because of it. Right, It's not like they went out
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: and blew doors off and played this really impressive, you know,
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: execution game on both sides of the ball, like even
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: I would have said, like defensively, at least they you know,
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: they really executed and then they fell apart. Yeah.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: I think for me, I don't think the interesting question
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: is what we feel. It's what Robert Kraft feels and and.
- 1:08:55Speaker 7: That's the that's the real question. And you know, my
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: thoughts haven't really changed, But I just I can't help
- 1:09:00Speaker 7: but wonder an owner who's a little bit older and
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: has this familiarity with this coach, and you know, it
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: would be the easy thing to just let him come back,
- 1:09:07Speaker 7: to try to give them a couple more seasons, you know,
- 1:09:09Speaker 7: to to buy into we lost a lot of close games,
- 1:09:12Speaker 7: and not to just completely upset the apple cart and
- 1:09:14Speaker 7: have to deal with a new GM, a new relationship
- 1:09:17Speaker 7: with someone else. That's gonna maybe come in here and
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: totally change the culture. You know, It's it's easy to
- 1:09:22Speaker 7: see if you were in Robert Kraft's position, why you
- 1:09:24Speaker 7: might say, you know what, we only got so much
- 1:09:27Speaker 7: time left.
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna arrive with my guy Bill. We'll see what happens.
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: I still believe in him that that's the question for
- 1:09:32Speaker 7: you know, for us on the outside, I think we're
- 1:09:34Speaker 7: all in agreement that it's just probably time first.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: But it's a big ask.
- 1:09:37Speaker 7: It's a big ask, and usually they we talked about Mayo.

- 1:23:33Speaker 8: I mean, just just pissed me off.
- 1:23:35Speaker 9: That's half the reason I called all right. That point
- 1:23:38Speaker 9: you made is the point that I was thinking in
- 1:23:40Speaker 9: my head, I'm like, dude, getting lost. But anyway a
- 1:23:45Speaker 9: lot of people are gonna think I should get lost
- 1:23:47Speaker 9: because I actually like Bailey's acte. I like him, and
- 1:23:51Speaker 9: I think he's earned the right to start next season.
- 1:23:55Speaker 9: I'm not saying we don't have to draft a quarterback,
- 1:23:57Speaker 9: but I think he should be given that opportunity because
- 1:23:59Speaker 9: I don't think he was really given the opportunity to
- 1:24:02Speaker 9: start this year back in back in training camp.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: Yeah, well you're not, you know, and like I, I
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: don't think he's the guy. But here's the here's the
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: case for Bailey Zappey. This is his second year. Obviously,
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: he didn't play his first year except for you know,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: in crazy circumstances because Mac got hurt and you know
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: all that stuff and then got benched. But he didn't.
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: He set like n C double A records at Western Kentucky,
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: you know, so you know he's like, yeah, so like
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: you know he can play the game of football, and
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: like you know, Teddy Bruski came in, Like I know
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: he was at Arizona. That's a bigger program than Western Kentucky.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: But like, wasn't he the sack leader for the n
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: C Double A. So like that in and of itself says, Okay,
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: this guy has he can do some things. I think
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: you can make the same case for Bailey ZAPPI like
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: maybe with time, with time and under the right coaching,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: he could be a really good and a felt quarterback.
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: I appreciate you making the case.
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: I'm saying that, Well, you were right about party.
- 1:25:07Speaker 18: I was there.
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: I was already give, I already give. I wasn't even
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: going to bring it up.
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: I was gonna wait till somebody else.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: I was in the car thinking, and I'm gonna get
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: Paul going.
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: It's really funny. I had a text, uh after the
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: fourth pick, getting ready to send, and I was like,
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: he's just too giddy. I'm not even gonna I'm not
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: even gonna bother. I just figured that I'll take my
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: lumps tomorrow.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: William. So you're not crazy, absolutely not.
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: I think you're not crazy.
- 1:25:37Speaker 9: And and maybe a little when the thing is really quick,
- 1:25:42Speaker 9: And I'm glad you feel that way because last year,
- 1:25:46Speaker 9: you know, I was made fun of. I was called
- 1:25:48Speaker 9: a weirdo. I was told by guys like like Tom
- 1:25:51Speaker 9: Kern and Evan Lazar that my eyes didn't see what
- 1:25:54Speaker 9: what what they saw. Everybody was telling me, no, Zapy
- 1:25:57Speaker 9: really sucks and Mac is the one that's really good.
- 1:26:00Speaker 9: And I'm like, no, I kind of saw what I saw.
- 1:26:02Speaker 9: I think Zappy actually looked pretty good.
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: Okay, can I offer a rebuttal now.
- 1:26:08Speaker 9: With some different host seeds? Thanks?
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: All right, Thanks William.
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: Wow, I was nice to him and I said he
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: wasn't crazy. Now you're bat shit.
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: Yeah, oh this is the whole, like the Mac Jones thing.
- 1:26:20Speaker 6: I totally agree with William. I think there was an
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: element of, I don't know, some kind of territoriality around here,
- 1:26:27Speaker 6: like if you even suggested that there was a experience.
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: I mean, Greg Bdard snapped at Joe Murray on the
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: radio and told him I'll let you know when there's
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: a quarterback controversy, when it's a quarterback competition. The mere
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: suggestion that Bailey Zappy deserved to compete with Mac Jones
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: brought you scorn and ridicule all summer long. I agree
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: with that, So that part I agree with William and
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: that wasn't fair. I would just ask, what have you
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: seen from Bailey Zappy that tells you that he should
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: be given an opportunity to start going forward?
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: Yeah, he can navigate well.
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: The only thing everything kind of illustrated that as bad
- 1:27:07Speaker 6: as Mac Jones was, Bailey's happy's numbers are worse.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: But but the only thing I can say is he
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: did it in college at a high level. He didn't
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: which has produced points and in numbers, and with the
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: right coaching, the things that we're seeing that he doesn't
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: do well now could be corrected.
- 1:27:25Speaker 6: That's but he can make this if that means he's
- 1:27:27Speaker 6: going to become a better athlete and be bigger, because
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: those are the things that I don't think he has.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: The sizes is an issue, but guys' size have played
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: well in the NFL.
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: Incredible athletes at that size, Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson when
- 1:27:39Speaker 6: he was younger. There's not a lot of like six
- 1:27:43Speaker 6: foot guys that don't move well.
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: Drew Brees wasn't a great athlete.
- 1:27:46Speaker 6: He was a much better athlete than this, and he
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: may don't know about that he was, and he may
- 1:27:51Speaker 6: have been the best like pure passer, kind of reader
- 1:27:57Speaker 6: of defenses and anticipation and all that. Actually, yes, did he.
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: And I don't know about you, but you just said
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: something that made me throw up in my mouth saying
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: at a high level Western Kentucky he did it in
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: the Big Ten.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: I get it, but but I'm just saying.
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: That like he and I also think Brees is one
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: of the more overrated guys in the history of the league.
- 1:28:17Speaker 6: But that's that's another right quarterback.
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: I would just I agree with you, Paul that Bailey
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: Zappy was not given a fair chance over the summer
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: coming into training camp to compete for the starting job.
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: And and that's something that like I'll learn from that, right,
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: you know, I learned from Gunner Oschewsky called him not
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: an NFL player, and then he goes and is it
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: a probow a'll pro punt returner, So like I you know,
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: I'll wear it on that one. But then we got
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: into training camp and he was so bad in training
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: camp they cut him, Like I don't understand. So when
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: you say, like you knew what your eyes were telling you,
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: so did I. And when I watched these practices.
- 1:28:54Speaker 6: He was horrible the ball.
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: He couldn't hit an eight yard slant.
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: And you know, and that's the thing, like, if if
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: he did have that potential, you don't risk it and
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: cut him and make him available to any team. You know,
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: you could say, oh, it's a calculated risk. They knew
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: he would. Well, then if that's the case, then maybe
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: he wasn't that good.
- 1:29:13Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: What I'm saying if he'll come against him, is that his.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: Own team thought that, you know, they could cut him
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: and get him back, or they could cut him and
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: they didn't care if he signed with it.
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: If he came into those practices and was lighting up
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: training camp practice and then playing well in the games
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: and all that kind of stuff, I would have said, yeah,
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: they need to start to give Zapi a couple of
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: looks here with the first team and some more reps
- 1:29:36Speaker 4: and things like that. But every single rep that he
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: got he was bad with it.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and so that's what this is where I defend Badard.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: You know, when they asked him, you know, is there
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: a quarterback competition at that time?
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: There wasn't, But you're missing knowing about it.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I know, I know. Let me finish. At that time,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: it's a fact that there wasn't a competition. It was
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: Matt If the question was should there be one, then
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: to be so definitive the way badd was kind of dumb.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: But that's a different question than is their one.
- 1:30:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I totally agree with the way you just said that.
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: But where I'm defending William in Florida, who had the
- 1:30:11Speaker 6: original comment, He's right that it didn't matter if you
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: thought there was there should have been. If you, in
- 1:30:21Speaker 6: any way dared to compare the two, you were mocked,
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: and you were mocked pretty much one hundred percent across
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: the board. I was mocked when I said, yeah, I
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: agree with Evan. I didn't think that Zappi, especially after
- 1:30:36Speaker 6: the first week, the first like three four days, I
- 1:30:39Speaker 6: thought it was fine, and he went downward at I
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: think around the time of the first preseason game he
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: really tailed off. He had a bad camp. I just
- 1:30:50Speaker 6: didn't think there was anything that was much different from
- 1:30:53Speaker 6: what matten. The offense looked atrocious all summer, and when
- 1:30:58Speaker 6: it looked that way the year before, we just blamed
- 1:31:00Speaker 6: it all on Patricia. Somehow everybody sat around here, you
- 1:31:04Speaker 6: can see the difference with the offense and there's a
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: tempo and listen, I wrote it too. I like I
- 1:31:09Speaker 6: I tried to believe that it was different, but my
- 1:31:12Speaker 6: eyes were telling me, well, there wasn't much difference between
- 1:31:16Speaker 6: the two guys. But if you said that out loud,
- 1:31:19Speaker 6: you got mocked.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: I would say, at times a camp, the offense did
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: look better than last year. The problem is when they
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: got into the games, they couldn't do anything.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: I think it definitely looked better.
- 1:31:28Speaker 7: Yeah, in Green Bay it looked better, and I mean
- 1:31:29Speaker 7: they had some fairness to me in Greenville. Yeah, But
- 1:31:34Speaker 7: I think I'd feel better about Zappi if it was
- 1:31:35Speaker 7: kind of the inverse, because right now it feels like
- 1:31:37Speaker 7: it feeds right into what he does well. And you know,
- 1:31:39Speaker 7: it's kind of like Evan said, like the gun slinger
- 1:31:41Speaker 7: thing and the protection breaks down and that's when he
- 1:31:42Speaker 7: make plays. I'd feel better if he was just executing
- 1:31:45Speaker 7: the plays in rhythm of the offense, kitting the open
- 1:31:48Speaker 7: guys and look, we don't have any big plays.
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: We don't have any Okay, those will come, but he
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: knows how to read the defense and he knows what
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: he's doing in this offense.
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: If he was doing that, then he would definitely have
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: a case to be starting quarterback in the league. If
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: he was playing instructure and you know the short throws
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: that I keep bringing up, if he was hitting those
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: types of plays, the layups that are presented to you
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: by the.
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: Append if he was doing that, they would get more
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: than two hundred and eighty yards of offense every week, right,
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: and they would certainly score more points than they've scored
- 1:32:16Speaker 6: every week. I'm gonna repeat this story. I'm pretty sure
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: I got a tweet from somebody who said, if he
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: had played in the Colts game, the Giants game, and
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: the Chargers game, they'd have three more wins.
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: Well, he played in the Chargers Oh did he?
- 1:32:29Speaker 6: And how many points did he score in that one?
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: Like this is what you're dealing with with revisionist history,
- 1:32:37Speaker 6: and now it's going the other way. In the summer,
- 1:32:39Speaker 6: it was like, no, Mac is better. Mac is better.
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: Mac is so much better. There's no difference, there's no
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: comparison between the skills. It's Mac. It's Mac, and you
- 1:32:46Speaker 6: were laughed at. Now Mac shouldn't even ever looked at
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: an NFL field and Bailey's appy, He's given him all
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: these different opportunities and he's stowed it. I totally agree
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: with Mike and Evan. Sunday night, he threw four or
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: five balls up and every one of them got caught
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: by his guy. The difference is the other team caught
- 1:33:07Speaker 6: him in some of those other games, like against the Giants.
- 1:33:10Speaker 6: But if he threw he threw him up for grabs
- 1:33:12Speaker 6: against the Giants and the Giants caught him that day.
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: But if you tell me that the more Bailey plays
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: is better he'll get, he'll improve. Like, I'm like, you know,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: I'm not closing my mind to that.
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: Well, at least it's been entertaining.
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: I I kind of am, because I just don't see.
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: I can't anything anymore because every time I get on
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: the one track mind thing, I'm I'm proven wrong.
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: So I keep your mind closed.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: But I just don't with Bailey Zappy. I just I
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: see a lot of the playground stuff, a lot of
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: the ability to move around the pocket off platform, and
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: like to add that kind of element to an offense
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: that needs it right now. But moving forward, you can't.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: B at the line. I mean again, we're back, We're
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: down to Vederian low. Because you know Trent Brown, Yeah,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: it was that in and out of the game again.
- 1:34:00Speaker 22: You know.
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: That's not I mean to change the subject, but can
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: I see a question about Mac?
- 1:34:04Speaker 7: And you guys tell me if I'm being stupid, But like,
- 1:34:06Speaker 7: is it weird to you guys that like when Bailey
- 1:34:08Speaker 7: Zappy runs out at the beginning of the game, it's
- 1:34:10Speaker 7: him and the new guy when he's on the sideline
- 1:34:12Speaker 7: reviewing paper, you know, reviewing plays. Mac is nowhere to
- 1:34:15Speaker 7: be found. I know Bill O'Brien was asked about it today.
- 1:34:18Speaker 7: You see some sideline shots in MAC.
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: I just is that weird to you? Like, I don't know.
- 1:34:23Speaker 7: I just I just think, you know, and I think
- 1:34:24Speaker 7: it Drew Bledsoe and the way that he handled being
- 1:34:26Speaker 7: a backup and the support that he gave, And I
- 1:34:28Speaker 7: just I don't see any of those things out of Mac.
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: It strikes me a little bit strange.
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: I may I don't know what to make of it.
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: I don't know what it means. Like Fred always says,
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: what do you think that means? I have no idea.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: Well, Brian said, handling it really well.
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: I've noticed it. I've noticed it every week when we're
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: on road games and we get our shots in here.
- 1:34:45Speaker 6: Zaby comes out and you know, one week it's cunning him,
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: one week it's a little great. Now it's like Nathan
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: Rourke because evidently we don't care who the backup is,
- 1:34:54Speaker 6: but we don't ever see Mac Jones. No, Mac was
- 1:34:58Speaker 6: making like one hitd he catches in the pre Yeah
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: this week with somebody around, Yeah.
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: He doesn't. He hasn't been coming out for T shirt
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: warm ups either. I think he did one.
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: I don't know what it means, if it means anything,
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: but I have noticed.
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: I think in Pittsburgh he was out there, but he
- 1:35:13Speaker 4: wasn't out there this past week. And I did notice
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: that because it's you know they do they run rests
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: against air obviously in T shirt warm ups, and it's
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: Zappi in Rourke, you know, throwing passes instead of Zappi
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: and Mac.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: And that's interesting.
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: In Rock's the emergency courter, he's not even not even
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: the backup.
- 1:35:30Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:35:30Speaker 7: Yeah, And you just wonder if there's things for Mac that,
- 1:35:32Speaker 7: you know, like you could be involved in this process
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: when they're reviewing the plays on the sideline, like it
- 1:35:36Speaker 7: just it seems like he's withdrawn right now.
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: As as a point of comparison, I was watching I
- 1:35:41Speaker 6: watched a good chunk of the Chiefs and Raiders, and
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: late in the game, the Chiefs are trying to get
- 1:35:47Speaker 6: a first down, and they had a guy who broke
- 1:35:51Speaker 6: like three tackles near the Raiders sideline, and there was
- 1:35:55Speaker 6: a guy going crazy, and you know, you just sort
- 1:35:57Speaker 6: of you like you're watching the place and you're not
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: really seeing exactly who was. And then they showed the
- 1:36:01Speaker 6: replay it was Garoppolo. Yeah, he was going out of
- 1:36:04Speaker 6: his mind, like for the guy who just broke three
- 1:36:07Speaker 6: tackles and set up like a second and three when
- 1:36:10Speaker 6: they're you know, they need a first down to sort
- 1:36:12Speaker 6: of grind the game out. You know, Garoppolo's probably his
- 1:36:15Speaker 6: career is probably close to being over at this point
- 1:36:17Speaker 6: as a starter. Was that like an unnecessary shot, But
- 1:36:24Speaker 6: I mean maybe as a starter, he's probably he's probably
- 1:36:27Speaker 6: gonna be hard pressed to be a starter again.
- 1:36:29Speaker 7: And just when he was going crazy and all these
- 1:36:31Speaker 7: things that you know, when Mac was the starter, talking
- 1:36:33Speaker 7: about you know, just getting the win is what matters,
- 1:36:35Speaker 7: and you know, kind of just preaching to us that
- 1:36:37Speaker 7: the team stuff, which you want to believe, but like
- 1:36:39Speaker 7: at the same time. It's I mean I was kind
- 1:36:41Speaker 7: of looking on the sideline when when Ryland made the
- 1:36:44Speaker 7: kick at the end, just to kind of see Max.
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: Couldn't really get a good glimpse of him. But it
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: wasn't you know, it wasn't Garoppolo, it wasn't.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:36:51Speaker 7: I just it makes me wonder about Max's long term
- 1:36:53Speaker 7: future with the team because I feel like if he
- 1:36:55Speaker 7: was invested and he's completely gone, yeah.
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: No, well, I mean he's obviously under but he's got
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: to go right.
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean this is making me.
- 1:37:03Speaker 7: I guess I just kept Yeah, I'm like, I mean,
- 1:37:06Speaker 7: even Bill O'Brien today's like I still believe in Mac,
- 1:37:08Speaker 7: Like will you believe in what for him to be
- 1:37:09Speaker 7: a backup in another team?
- 1:37:10Speaker 6: But if you were the Patriots, Fred, wouldn't you like
- 1:37:13Speaker 6: honor that wish? Yes, wouldn't you want to want to?
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: I think both size need to fresh start, clean it out.
- 1:37:20Speaker 6: I would be much more. I would have a much
- 1:37:23Speaker 6: easier time going the William route William and Florida saying
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: Bailey Zappy deserves a chance to compete for the starting
- 1:37:29Speaker 6: job than I would be. Well, Mac Jones should be
- 1:37:32Speaker 6: on this team next, right, Like.
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: If it's Bailey Zappi and Drake May and Bailey Zappy
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: gets a chance to maybe start the season so that
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: they can break Drake May and then fine. I just
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: I think for people that are like, well why not Zappy,
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: I just I would be careful of like getting fooled
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: into thinking that it's more than it actually is. And
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: I put him in the same category as like a
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: Tommy DeVito or a Taylor Heinike, or a Sam Howell
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: or one of these quarterbacks that.
- 1:37:59Speaker 6: If you fool your perfect, perfect comps, if you fool.
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: Yourself into thinking that that's the guy, then you're just
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: put kicking the can down the road of the inevitable.
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: And that's how I feel about Bailey, And I.
- 1:38:09Speaker 6: Would even argue, you know, and I think they're all
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: good comps. But even with Howell, I think there's a
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: lot more athleticism here, Yeah, a little bit than there
- 1:38:16Speaker 6: is with zapp.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: Yeah, what's he going? Where?
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: We're packing Monday? Everybody's got shoots except me. I mean,
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: you can assign yourself to.
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: Spi and Fresno today. Hot Mike became Mike the casual
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: fan do so he sits the top our Rushmore next
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: to Evan Pinpool Bazaar. Bill gave us a big lump
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: of cold with that win. Wolf. Anyway, what range of
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: first round picks do the Patriots end up with if
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: they just beat the Jets or if they win both
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: remaining games.
- 1:38:44Speaker 6: If they win both, they could fall out of the
- 1:38:46Speaker 6: top ten, I would think, But it's difficult to say Jets,
- 1:38:49Speaker 6: as you know, you're probably looking at five or six.
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's difficult to say because of how strength the
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: schedule works. You know, it's all seventeen teams you play,
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: or obviously don't play seventeen, but you know what I mean,
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: seventeen games that you play. It changes, it's their record
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: every single week. It's so it's there's like a million permutations.
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: So trying to guess like where they would be if
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: this happened is impossible.
- 1:39:10Speaker 6: But I think that there's a lot of five win
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: teams right now.
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say as long as for me, as
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: long as they're picking in the top six picks, I
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: feel fine, they're gonna get a great player at the
- 1:39:22Speaker 4: top of the draft.
- 1:39:23Speaker 6: Because I think you got like the Giants, Tennessee, the Chargers,
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: there's a handful of teams that have five, they're five
- 1:39:34Speaker 6: and ten right now.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan in the world,
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: says Bill's restaurant should be called on to next week.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: That's what they say when it's dessert.
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: Time instead of the entree.
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: Next week, we're onto dessert. Yeah.
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: It's the Giants, the Chargers, and the Titans are five
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: and ten. The Bears, the Jets are six and nine. Yeah,
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: six and nine.
- 1:39:53Speaker 6: So if you if you win the Jets game and
- 1:39:55Speaker 6: you go five, you know, five and twelve, you're you're
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: risk those three teams could go five twelve and then
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: you'd be at the mercy of the strength of schedule. Yeah,
- 1:40:02Speaker 6: for all three of them.
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: So you're really I think the lowest that you could
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: possibly go realistically is probably like seven or eight. You know,
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: I don't because the Bears have six wins and so
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: do the Jets, and they're eight and nine right now,
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: so you're you're only going to be tied with them
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: at best case scenario about Arizona, Arizona is at three
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: and twelve. They're at two two, Yeah, So I think
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: the lowest that you can probably realistically assume is that
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: they'll they'll be as low as eight, which, again I
- 1:40:31Speaker 4: still think you're You're okay.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: Doug in Connecticut. I can't tell if people honestly see
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: Zappi and Mac's equivalent or if they're just so dug
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: in on their opinion of Mac that they just can't adjust.
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: Zappi has more velocity in his throws, has quicker feet
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: in the pocket, can throw on the run better than Mac,
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: and has better downfield accuracy. I'm not saying Zappi is
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: QB one going forward, but saying that they're the same
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: guy as ludicrous.
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: No, we're not saying that they're the same guy. We're
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: saying the production has been marginally the same.
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: Correct. And I also think that not all the things
- 1:41:03Speaker 6: he just said are true. There's no way you can
- 1:41:05Speaker 6: tell me that Zappi throws the ball with more velocity.
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: Neither one of them throw the ball with any velocity.
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: I will say, though, that some of the players that
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: catch passes from these quarterbacks say that that Zappy throws
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: out a little bit more z it.
- 1:41:16Speaker 6: I have something on off air about that. Yeah.
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: But but but honestly, though, again, a guy from Western Kentucky, right,
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: this is what his sixth game as a starter in
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: the NFL. Yes, okay, can he get better, like you know.
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: Yeah, can he get better in terms of the way
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: he reads defenses and whatnot, Yes, of course. Can his
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: skills get.
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: Better, but like you know, missing those short passes, yeah,
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: that could probably get better.
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: At the least of my concern, I just don't see
- 1:41:49Speaker 6: an athlete. He's five foot nothing in doesn't run well.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: I just want to be I just want to be
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: fair about my evaluation.
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: Guy, I'm standing right here, sitting right I know.
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: I don't want to say that the jury's out on him.
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: Like again, it's a guy from a lower level school
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: who had high high production, who's now in his six
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: game as a starter in the NFL, and we're expecting
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: him to be better than the guy who came from
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: Alabama won a national title D one And like the
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: fact that he's even in the same conversation says something.
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: I think it says something about mac Jones.
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: Maybe, but I think it's a fair point.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: I think he might get better.
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: It's a fair point. I just think that watching him play,
- 1:42:34Speaker 4: it's kind of what Due said, and not a lot
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: of the big players that they're making are not necessarily
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: within the confines of the offense, or it's like a
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: jump ball to Devontae Parker, and those types of things
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: just tend to not be sustainable unless you're Patrick Mahomes
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: or Josh Allen and that's just how you play.
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: And maybe he is like that.
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: I just think that he got to, Like, you.
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: Know, Josh Allen, you got to have an amazing arm
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: to be able to live one off platform, you throw
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: a ball late across the field and DeVante Parker jumps
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: and catches it.
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: The next week, you roll out off platform toward the sideline,
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: you throw a ball and you throw it right to
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: William Gay. Like that's what happens when you play like that.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: Like Mahomes did yesterday.
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: No, like Zappi and that game. The game that Mahomes
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: played yesterday was unequivocally the worst game I've ever seen
- 1:43:22Speaker 6: him play. He was out.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: I think he's given up on his team.
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: I think he's I think there's some of that. I
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: think he is really really that's side frustrated.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: Kelsey's getting into it now.
- 1:43:32Speaker 6: I think I loved what Andy Reid did, by the way,
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: on that play.
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: Yeah, he took him out.
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: Yeah, like he came. Did you see that they had
- 1:43:38Speaker 6: a third down that was failed? Kelsey comes over and
- 1:43:42Speaker 6: they're obviously pissed they're doing nothing offensively. He fires his
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: helmet from the sideline into the bench. Well, they had
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: a fake punt called that worked. Yeah, And Andy Reid
- 1:43:52Speaker 6: was pissed at Kelsey said no, no, no, that the
- 1:43:54Speaker 6: guy was trying to give him his helmet back. Yeah, no, no, no, no,
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: stay over here. I was like, I think that's perfect. Yeah,
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: no's that's perfect.
- 1:44:01Speaker 15: Now.
- 1:44:02Speaker 6: I mean it lasted a play. You know, we didn't
- 1:44:05Speaker 6: we didn't go we didn't go ridiculous and say like,
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: oh no, you've got to set out a whole quarter
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: or whatever.
- 1:44:09Speaker 16: It was.
- 1:44:10Speaker 6: It was just one play. But you know, you can
- 1:44:14Speaker 6: feel the frustration with those guys, and you can you
- 1:44:17Speaker 6: can see it watching it was it was a pathetically
- 1:44:19Speaker 6: bad offensive performance yesterday.
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: It actually it hurts us nerds because efficiently wise, the
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: efficiency wise, they're actually still like a top ten offense
- 1:44:30Speaker 4: in DVA and EPA all that stuff. But you just
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: watch it and you can just tell that they're not
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: a very good offense, right, You.
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: Could tell, like to Fred's point, like he just doesn't
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: trust it like every time Mahomes was dropping back, he's
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: like moving around, like he just looked uncomfortable because first
- 1:44:46Speaker 6: thing wasn't there He's moving.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: And yeah, it's a tough situation over there. Chad and
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: Atlanta just wanted to apologize to Deuce about having to
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: hear us tankers wine all week about falling back in
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: the draft. It's not enough that we haven't had anything
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: to be excited about watching this mediocre team play week
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: after week. But when we finally had something to be
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: excited for, like a shiny new toy in the form
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: of Caleb Williams of Drake May, it seemingly gets ripped
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: from us for no reason. I'm glad Mike is able
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: to roll over and take it, but some of us
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: aren't able to do that. I'd love to hear his
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: plan for the quarterback position, since he wants all of
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: us to be quiet about it.
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: I understand what he's saying. I missed, huh now, yeah,
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: but I understand what the emailer is saying about, Like
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: that was your rooting interest this season? You didn't have
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: a rooting interest in the team on the field, so
- 1:45:33Speaker 4: your rooting interest was for the draft pick and I
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: totally can understand that. I would just say that, don't
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: just like me with Bailey z Appy, don't be so
- 1:45:42Speaker 4: narrow minded that there's only two quarterbacks in this draft.
- 1:45:44Speaker 4: You know that, I think that there are other guys
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: that could get you could get excited about, Like I'm
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: not going all the way far as like JJ McCarthy,
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: but you know, bo Nix, I think is a guy
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: at the top of the second round that's intriguing. Tools
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: if quinn Ewers from Texas comes out, he's gonna be
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: playing in the playoff on New Year's Day or whenever
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: the freaking playoff is. He's a really talented quarterback that
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: could maybe go late first early second round if he
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: comes out. So there's other guys in this class. Panis
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: and Daniels are the two big ones. But it's not
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: just it's it doesn't stop at the second overall pick, Like,
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: there's other guys in this class that you can get
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: excited about.
- 1:46:17Speaker 6: And again, I think it just gets down to your
- 1:46:20Speaker 6: level of frustration over the wind is what you think
- 1:46:25Speaker 6: of Williams and may Right. I think those that think
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: the world of those guys are really disappointed. Others have said, well,
- 1:46:32Speaker 6: Williams have made it good. But there are other good
- 1:46:34Speaker 6: guys too, and I'll be okay if they get any
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: of them.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's the key, Paul. If I really like
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: either one of those guys, I can understand why you're disappointed.
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: Right, And I think that's what we mostly heard from. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:46:45Speaker 6: postgame Ben's and Maryland.
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:46:48Speaker 13: Ben?
- 1:46:49Speaker 10: Hey, y'all.
- 1:46:50Speaker 22: I hope you at a good Christmas and good holiday.
- 1:46:52Speaker 22: I haven't caught him since one but memory in my
- 1:46:57Speaker 22: photos today and two years ago today, I was in
- 1:47:01Speaker 22: the hospital. I had some major head surgery and I
- 1:47:03Speaker 22: was in there for over a week, and all I
- 1:47:05Speaker 22: listened to was you guys. I think I ended the
- 1:47:07Speaker 22: week with like eighteen nineteen hours. I actually wouldn't let
- 1:47:11Speaker 22: them do surgery unless the doctors are playing.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: You guys like yet out.
- 1:47:17Speaker 10: Yeah, wow, you guys want to blasted?
- 1:47:21Speaker 6: I think, what does the doctors think?
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:47:25Speaker 10: Well, actually, I mean.
- 1:47:26Speaker 22: I grew up in Boston.
- 1:47:28Speaker 10: Who did my surgery?
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:47:29Speaker 23: So he was in a Yeah, I like Patriots.
- 1:47:34Speaker 13: Had caps too. It was awesome.
- 1:47:35Speaker 21: It's some thing anyway.
- 1:47:37Speaker 22: I told myself one day, like I'm going to be
- 1:47:39Speaker 22: what you guys are, and you really inspired me to
- 1:47:42Speaker 22: make a website and all this stuff. So anyway, yesterday
- 1:47:46Speaker 22: I got my well.
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: What's your website? Give you you plug your U r L?
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: What's what's your website?
- 1:47:51Speaker 23: Name the Patriots Beat?
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Okay, I'm on Twitter too.
- 1:47:57Speaker 22: And actually yesterday I took a bunch of Patriots to
- 1:48:00Speaker 22: porters and compare them to like Christmas characters.
- 1:48:04Speaker 10: And he got a lot of love.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: Okay, check it out. I had you guys in all right,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: Oh nice?
- 1:48:09Speaker 6: Hopefully were I hope you were kind Ben?
- 1:48:11Speaker 23: That's great, Ben, Yeah, so definitely check that out.
- 1:48:14Speaker 22: But anyway, I just wanted to say thanks, and you
- 1:48:16Speaker 22: guys really inspired me, so I appreciate it.
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: All right, Thanks, Thanks, Ben, appreciate the call.
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: Thanks, that's a great what a great call.
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: Just for the I haven at called to twenty one.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: I'm like, where are your Ben? He's like, oh, I've
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: been having head.
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: Surgeres right, just for the record, he calls him to
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: catch twenty two all the time. Okay, good, So he
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: is around and a good listener. Yeah, I appreciate it, Ben.
- 1:48:33Speaker 6: I think I follow Ben on Twitter.
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: Okay, I know who that is. Hatred's beat. I've seen it.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: I know who is my timeline?
- 1:48:40Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, good stuff.
- 1:48:42Speaker 6: He could be the next Duce. You never know. Evidently
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: Deuce was on the verge of resignation today or what
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: did I miss?
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: Last week I missed the show when he can't compile
- 1:48:52Speaker 6: the statistics of a of a Picks contest, And this
- 1:48:54Speaker 6: week I go off for five minutes to tape a
- 1:48:57Speaker 6: segment and evidently all help broke loose again. Yeah, I
- 1:49:00Speaker 6: don't know what's got tomorrow.
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: I'm gonna you know, you know, Deuce like he wants
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: to be he wants to be positive about the team,
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: and you come in and they won a game finally,
- 1:49:09Speaker 4: and then everybody's telling you you're supposed to be mad
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: that they won the game, And that's like telling Deuce
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: that Santa Claus isn't really.
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: Hudson's in California. Hey, Hudson, I was.
- 1:49:19Speaker 14: Going good, good good.
- 1:49:22Speaker 21: I'm sorry. I'm calling in for the first time because
- 1:49:25Speaker 21: I just I couldn't stand what you guys were talking
- 1:49:28Speaker 21: about all day.
- 1:49:29Speaker 8: I mean, yeah, this Dappy and k.
- 1:49:30Speaker 21: Mack stuff, which is beyond irritating.
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: I mean, what's irritating about it to you?
- 1:49:36Speaker 21: I mean you're acting like Billy Bailey, Jaffi fucking Doug Flutie.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Oh now what you had to swear and ruin it?
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:49:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I would have let him go.
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't do that encourages others.
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: Also like Doug Fluteie. Is that a compliment like that.
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: A guy who thinks like me, there's this Canadian football legend,
- 1:49:56Speaker 6: Doug Flutie.
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: I think he was saying that Doug flute is good. Yeah.
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: Did he watch Doug Flutie in the NFL again?
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: He won some games at Buffalo, So I want that
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: playoff game he should start.
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: I will just say this, you know, in terms of
- 1:50:10Speaker 6: what Hudson was talking about, it kind of lends to
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: what my point is, like, if you even dared to
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: suggest that these guys were comparable, it evidently rubbed a
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: lot of people the wrong way, including Hudson.
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: I'm just gonna hop in and say one thing about
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: all this, because.
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: How do you know what we've been talking about, because
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: dud you're still talking about absolutely not now.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: I just felt like.
- 1:50:35Speaker 7: Maybe you guys have been over this, but I just
- 1:50:37Speaker 7: felt like part of it was like it just from
- 1:50:38Speaker 7: what we watched, not even performance, just based on reps.
- 1:50:41Speaker 7: It seemed like there was no competition, and so when
- 1:50:43Speaker 7: I was answering that question, that's where it was.
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: But there was no I'm not arguing there was a competition.
- 1:50:49Speaker 6: I'm arguing if you said that Dailey Zappi and Mac
- 1:50:52Speaker 6: Jones are similar in talent, you got mocked and you did.
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: And I don't really think there's that much of a
- 1:50:59Speaker 6: difference the two skill sets. Now, I think Mac is
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: a little bigger. I think he throws a better ball,
- 1:51:05Speaker 6: but Zappi certainly moves better in his better pocket presence
- 1:51:08Speaker 6: and has an ability to make off platform plays.
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that they're significantly different quarterbacks. And I
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: think that's the biggest thing that now we've gotten to
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: watch Bailey Zappi a little bit more that I've come
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: away with And for this offense this year, they need
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: somebody that can move around a little bit because their
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: offensive line is terrible right last in the league in
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: pass blocking win rate. They're the worst pass blocking offensive
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: line in the NFL. And if you have a quarterback
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: that's just gonna stand on one spot and not be
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: able to move around, and then also add into the
- 1:51:37Speaker 4: fact that he got rattled by pressure because of how
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: much he faced pressure. Then all of a sudden, you
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: have a guy that can't play in this offense.
- 1:51:44Speaker 6: I'm going to play a little into your wheelhouse right here.
- 1:51:48Speaker 6: If San Francisco were to lose brock Purty, they would
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: much rather have Mac Jones replacing him than Bailey's X.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: Why is that pop?
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: Because there's everything is perfect around to fight the fact
- 1:52:00Speaker 6: that they have a horrifically bad offensive line save for
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: the left tackle.
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: How about that game last night? That was a quote
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: quote from Troy A, that's your MVP. Four picks in
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: the biggest game of the year. That's your MVP.
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: He continues to be Andy Hart. Please, I've never suggested
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: this is your champion. I've never suggested that brock Party
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: should be MV.
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: I'm not saying that to you. I'm saying that to
- 1:52:22Speaker 4: everybody that simply song about brock Party. He plays, his
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: plays one good defense, he throws four interceptions, and he
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: looks like an all right, there you go.
- 1:52:32Speaker 6: I thought he I thought he played an awful game
- 1:52:34Speaker 6: last night. I can't. I was I was laughing. I
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: was like laughing at myself. It was so bad. Like
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: even some of the completions.
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: I was like, yes, he'll bounce back like he always does.
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: Franklin and Baltimore writes, and quick question, since when did
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: the Patriots drafting problem become they don't pick high enough
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: and not their talent evaluation stinks. I don't get the
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: ire over potentially losing.
- 1:52:55Speaker 6: Its been they don't pick high enough for twenty years.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: I don't get the I are over potentially losing a
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: top five pick because it's not like better talent wasn't
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: available when they pick late. From Sony Michelle, Harry Thornton,
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: Worrow Wasser, Yes, a high draft pick does help, but
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: if your talent evaluation is shite, he says, you're still
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: not getting impact players point blank. Get rid of dollartry
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: mindset when it comes to talent evaluation, especially offensively, and
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: the rest will follow suit. That goes for drafting and
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: free agent signings.
- 1:53:25Speaker 6: I agree with the premise, but it's different. It's different
- 1:53:28Speaker 6: at the top.
- 1:53:29Speaker 7: Of the draft, and I don't see that the Dollar
- 1:53:30Speaker 7: Store is spending to doing well in the draft. I mean,
- 1:53:32Speaker 7: that's how you are enable yourself to have that spending.
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: If that is your philosophy.
- 1:53:37Speaker 7: Those are the contracts that you control, So I agree
- 1:53:40Speaker 7: with the premise, and I think generally they just they
- 1:53:42Speaker 7: need to hit on these draft picks. And like, you know,
- 1:53:44Speaker 7: we can argue about who and where and what, but
- 1:53:47Speaker 7: bottom line is that I would rather have a left
- 1:53:50Speaker 7: tackle than a miss on a quarterback, you know, And
- 1:53:52Speaker 7: that's what I think they need right now.
- 1:53:55Speaker 6: Which would you rather have a quarterback who isn't a
- 1:53:59Speaker 6: home run but he's average or miss on the left tackle?
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: I don't know what you get at. And I probably
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: would still.
- 1:54:07Speaker 6: Because the quarterback. I don't want to miss on anything.
- 1:54:09Speaker 7: Yeah, No, I mean I still would lean towards the
- 1:54:11Speaker 7: quarterback just because of how hard it is to get
- 1:54:13Speaker 7: the quarterback.
- 1:54:14Speaker 6: Like a lot of people would argue, and I don't
- 1:54:18Speaker 6: think this is as true anymore as it used to
- 1:54:20Speaker 6: be before the CBA changed in twenty eleven. But missing
- 1:54:24Speaker 6: on a quarterback hurts more than missing on anything else.
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: I don't think that's true anymore.
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: And I think you're like, if you take a guy at.
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: Four and he turns out to be Robert Gallery, I
- 1:54:33Speaker 6: don't feel any better about it if it was Josh Rosen.
- 1:54:36Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, and that but I think that gets back
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: to it likea' the same that you.
- 1:54:39Speaker 6: Were banking on that guy being a really good player
- 1:54:42Speaker 6: and he busted and that stinks to me.
- 1:54:45Speaker 7: It gets back to what I said earlier, just like
- 1:54:46Speaker 7: when you're in these picks, it's almost like you're obligated
- 1:54:48Speaker 7: to take a quarterback. So I don't think anyone you know,
- 1:54:50Speaker 7: would fault them for missing on Drake May at second
- 1:54:53Speaker 7: or third overall, I don't, you know, like it's like, look,
- 1:54:55Speaker 7: that was the guy. But again, like who knows how
- 1:54:58Speaker 7: this is all going to flush out when we to April,
- 1:55:00Speaker 7: because everyone's draft board says exactly the same thing for
- 1:55:03Speaker 7: the top three right now, and that's going to change.
- 1:55:05Speaker 7: Like if there's gonna be a bunch of jockey, there's
- 1:55:07Speaker 7: gonna be a quarterback that all of a sudden, everybody's like.
- 1:55:09Speaker 6: Well, I don't know one of these guys, like what
- 1:55:11Speaker 6: will watch film like a Chris Simms or someone you know.
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: Let me tell you why this is.
- 1:55:17Speaker 6: Someone will have Jayden Daniels is better than Caleb Williams
- 1:55:20Speaker 6: Andre or Michael Pennix. Someone will have one of the
- 1:55:27Speaker 6: other quarterbacks is actually better.
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: And I will say, in this second, I think to
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: Paul's point, that I don't think that the difference between
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: May and Daniels is as big as some other people do.
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: And I think that that's that's a big part of
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: why I feel the way that I feel now. With Daniels,
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: you have to build the offense around him, like and
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: I mean, you have to deal with every quarterback, but
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: the advantage of his right I worry.
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: A little bit about about his size, Like not his height,
- 1:55:58Speaker 6: obviously he's tall, but his stature.
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: Yeah, he's thin, Yeah, Marty and Reno. Honestly, I thought
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: I was listening to Jets postgame show Sunday night with
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: the number of callers upset that the Patriots won. Glad
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: the tone is more reasonable today. Also, looking at the
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: teams at the top.
- 1:56:14Speaker 6: Right now, we're giving you that that was callers.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: Very very few had a top three or four draft
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: pick that put them up put them there. Yes, San
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: Francisco did draft future Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback at three,
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: but championship teams are built with deep drafts or one
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: time free agent spend like La also agree, Zappi was
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: a fourth string quarterback at best at the start of
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: the season, but the kid is resilient coming back after
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: fumbling the first nap. Seems to be something about his character.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: And he's got Tom Brady eyes who looks confident. Under said,
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: won the championship last year?
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: Who won the super Bowl last season?
- 1:56:47Speaker 3: I think it was the shifts to who the Kansas
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: City cheffs correct?
- 1:56:51Speaker 6: But you know, refresh my memory. Where was their quarterbacks selected?
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: Like tenth first first round? The first round?
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: High picked?
- 1:57:00Speaker 4: We Okay, I also just like hate the like the
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: last time I number one pick one a super Bowl
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: is oh no.
- 1:57:07Speaker 6: No, no, no, no, god, no, no, that's not it. Argument,
- 1:57:09Speaker 6: that's not it. You have to qualify it because Matthew
- 1:57:13Speaker 6: Stafford just did it like two years, right, but it
- 1:57:15Speaker 6: has to be with his original team. Like, it's about talent, people,
- 1:57:21Speaker 6: you're missing the point. If you can't develop, if you
- 1:57:25Speaker 6: can't develop the talent, you have a problem, regardless of
- 1:57:28Speaker 6: whether or not the guy can play. Like, there's your
- 1:57:30Speaker 6: problem is you can't develop the talent. Detroit failed Matthew staff.
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: Right, there's what fifty four super Bowls? Right, we're on
- 1:57:37Speaker 4: fifty five?
- 1:57:37Speaker 6: Now eight, I think that's like fifty eight?
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: Are we really?
- 1:57:41Speaker 4: God? But so Brad Brady's won seven of them. Right,
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: and and so like Manning one two right. So when
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: you really start to stack it together, there's like forty
- 1:57:51Speaker 4: quarterbacks or something like that in the history of the
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: NFL that have won a Super Bowl. But the only
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: thing that matters is if the first overall pick one is.
- 1:57:57Speaker 6: Super Bowl like it just but what I'm saying, like,
- 1:58:00Speaker 6: you have to qualify it, yeah, because because it doesn't
- 1:58:03Speaker 6: fit your narrative. And I'm not suggesting that every number
- 1:58:06Speaker 6: one overall, like it doesn't have to be a number
- 1:58:08Speaker 6: one overall pick, but they're all first round picks. There's
- 1:58:12Speaker 6: like twenty I think twenty one out of the thirty
- 1:58:15Speaker 6: two teams right now have a starting quarterback in the
- 1:58:18Speaker 6: that was drafted in the first round. Like and I'm
- 1:58:21Speaker 6: talking about number again. I think it's twenty one or
- 1:58:23Speaker 6: twenty two out of the thirty two.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean look at all all the good quarterbacks
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: right now, and all of them, but most of them
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: were high. I mean, Purdy is a good one.
- 1:58:32Speaker 6: No, no, only kidding, but that's but like is Russell Wilson,
- 1:58:35Speaker 6: Dak Prescott, brock Purty, like they were definitely outliers. And
- 1:58:39Speaker 6: Jalen Hurts was a second rounder yeah, but I think that.
- 1:58:42Speaker 4: That's like what you're looking at if you're the Patriots,
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: is like if you're not going to get the quarterback
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: at the top of the draft because you felt too far,
- 1:58:48Speaker 4: Like who's the Jalen Hurts of this draft? Who is
- 1:58:51Speaker 4: the Dak Prescott of this draft? Not the brock party,
- 1:58:53Speaker 4: Like you're not talking about drafting the guy with mister irrelevant,
- 1:58:56Speaker 4: but like, who's the guy in on Day two of
- 1:58:58Speaker 4: this draft, top of this second round player trace?
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: But now they think he's going to be in the first.
- 1:59:04Speaker 4: Round, right, Yeah, it depends on his medicals, Like that's
- 1:59:07Speaker 4: gonna be the big thing for him.
- 1:59:08Speaker 6: And there's fourteen playoff teams right now, you know as
- 1:59:11Speaker 6: of today, and ten of those have a first round picks.
- 1:59:15Speaker 3: Oh that's let's let's get out in front of this.
- 1:59:16Speaker 3: Though it's gonna be at the combine they're gonna say
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: Penix not looking good.
- 1:59:23Speaker 6: A couple more calls, you guys are gonna start spreading.
- 1:59:26Speaker 3: No, but that's what I'm sure will come out.
- 1:59:28Speaker 4: He does have badnee.
- 1:59:29Speaker 6: No, I know, but I thought you wanted to maybe
- 1:59:30Speaker 6: see if you could squeez him to.
- 1:59:31Speaker 3: The But when the medicals come out, but that's I
- 1:59:33Speaker 3: mean that.
- 1:59:33Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know if he's pretty good at
- 1:59:35Speaker 6: the Patriots, he's good in the third round.
- 1:59:37Speaker 4: I've talked to five teams. He's off there.
- 1:59:39Speaker 3: The knees are just amazing. We can build a good
- 1:59:41Speaker 3: offensive bone on bone.
- 1:59:42Speaker 6: You could be like that guy in Green Bay if
- 1:59:44Speaker 6: you met with.
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: The Packers, Benson Pittsfield on the line, what's up? Then good?
- 1:59:52Speaker 14: I would just calling.
- 1:59:53Speaker 24: I have an interesting topic. I think about a lot,
- 1:59:56Speaker 24: Like in terms of the draft, I'm, you know, indifferent
- 1:59:59Speaker 24: as to whether not we take a quarterback, like obviously
- 2:00:02Speaker 24: if it works out, it does, Like I kinda just
- 2:00:04Speaker 24: want good players.
- 2:00:05Speaker 6: Like at the end of the day, yeah, I would
- 2:00:07Speaker 6: agree with.
- 2:00:07Speaker 24: The people who are like super insistent on taking a quarterback,
- 2:00:10Speaker 24: which I totally understand. I feel like when it comes
- 2:00:13Speaker 24: to the off season, like I can't imagine like sticking
- 2:00:16Speaker 24: a rookie into what we have now. And like, if
- 2:00:19Speaker 24: we were to draft a quarterback, let's say, you know,
- 2:00:21Speaker 24: one of the top three guys, what are like the
- 2:00:23Speaker 24: off season movies you want to see, like signing you
- 2:00:26Speaker 24: know whatever, freezing receiver, and like who would you want
- 2:00:29Speaker 24: to bring in because obviously like something like that needs
- 2:00:31Speaker 24: to change.
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: Along with the quarterback, I'd like to bring in a
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: bunch of good players.
- 2:00:36Speaker 4: T Higgins.
- 2:00:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I would feel the same way about that as
- 2:00:39Speaker 6: I do about the draft. I mean, as long as
- 2:00:41Speaker 6: you're getting signing good players, they're going to help your team.
- 2:00:43Speaker 4: I think the hardest part though, is going to it
- 2:00:45Speaker 4: would be the offensive line.
- 2:00:47Speaker 6: There's not a lot of hard to build an offensive line,
- 2:00:49Speaker 6: and free agent you can get one guy, yeah, you know,
- 2:00:52Speaker 6: like like what the Chiefs did with Joe Tooney, like
- 2:00:54Speaker 6: that sort of solidified the line, but usually.
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: It's going to be a guard, right, Like, I think
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: we're going to be looking for an on line coach.
- 2:01:00Speaker 4: Too, right, I don't know, Well, he hasn't been that way.
- 2:01:04Speaker 4: I just I I was in favor of them, maybe
- 2:01:08Speaker 4: Rent making a run at Mike McGlinchey, but Mike McGlinchey
- 2:01:11Speaker 4: has been awful for the Broncos, and the Broncos owe
- 2:01:13Speaker 4: him a lot of money. So you end up paying
- 2:01:16Speaker 4: like tackles like Mike mcglinchy top of the market money
- 2:01:20Speaker 4: to really be like a low level to average starter,
- 2:01:24Speaker 4: which is just what you can't do that.
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: Arthur's in New York will wrap it up with you.
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: What's up?
- 2:01:29Speaker 23: Hey, has it down, guys. I called him last week
- 2:01:32Speaker 23: about Jayden Daniels kind of went on a little rant there,
- 2:01:35Speaker 23: looking like that's a little less likely now that we
- 2:01:38Speaker 23: took a loss. But my call has nothing to do
- 2:01:42Speaker 23: with that. I wanted to talk about Mike on Leno.
- 2:01:44Speaker 23: I think I'm kind of tired of seeing guys that
- 2:01:48Speaker 23: are really good for us just not get resigned, and
- 2:01:51Speaker 23: instead of give money to guys that performed elsewhere like
- 2:01:54Speaker 23: Agalar and just overpay those guys, we need to pay
- 2:01:57Speaker 23: our own guys. I mean, the last guards flash often
- 2:02:00Speaker 23: the big offensive lineman that left him free agency all
- 2:02:02Speaker 23: won Super Bowl. Shaq Mason won a Super Bowl in
- 2:02:04Speaker 23: Tampa Bay, Joe Tooney won a Super Bowl in Kansas City,
- 2:02:08Speaker 23: and even a guy like Ted Carris, who was kind
- 2:02:10Speaker 23: of a you know, depth piece for us, really elevated
- 2:02:12Speaker 23: the offensive line.
- 2:02:13Speaker 6: They're absolutely right with all three of those guys.
- 2:02:15Speaker 1: Yeah, So if you had to choose between on when
- 2:02:18Speaker 1: you or Dougar, you can only resign one.
- 2:02:21Speaker 12: Who do you do all day?
- 2:02:22Speaker 23: I mean that's not even a question, because, first of all,
- 2:02:24Speaker 23: I think Douger's performance this season has dipped as it
- 2:02:27Speaker 23: has gone on. I think the first eight games of
- 2:02:29Speaker 23: the season he was playing out of much higher level.
- 2:02:31Speaker 14: Two on one was a little bit younger.
- 2:02:33Speaker 23: And three, just if you're going to draft a quarterback
- 2:02:36Speaker 23: early in the draft, you gotta protect him. So on one,
- 2:02:38Speaker 23: who can be an elite.
- 2:02:39Speaker 6: Guard or even I would have to say, when you
- 2:02:41Speaker 6: to the answer to that only because the offensive line
- 2:02:43Speaker 6: is such shambles and they have some depth that safety.
- 2:02:46Speaker 4: And he's not a tackle though I know that's an
- 2:02:48Speaker 4: unpopular opinion.
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: But he can play it in a pinch and there's
- 2:02:52Speaker 1: value to that. Absolutely.
- 2:02:53Speaker 16: What was the Y?
- 2:02:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I know it's a topic for tomorrow, but.
- 2:02:59Speaker 1: All right, thanks for the call, Arthur, and thanks everyone
- 2:03:02Speaker 1: for listening, emailing, calling in a good show, good Tuesday show.
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: We'll be back tomorrow Wednesday. We'll talk to you then.
- 2:03:18Speaker 11: Very very Christmas to you.
