- 0:00Speaker 1: It's Mikey from the Gloom in the Corner. Our brand
- 0:02Speaker 1: new album, Royal Discordance is coming out. It's either out
- 0:05Speaker 1: now or it came out on February twenty seventh. This
- 0:09Speaker 1: is the latest in a long, long running story arc.
- 0:13Speaker 1: But don't worry. You don't need to worry about that
- 0:16Speaker 1: this time around. This song is from this album is
- 0:18Speaker 1: based from the emotive standpoint, so you can just sit
- 0:21Speaker 1: back and have a good fun time with the songs.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that sound like a mouthful to get out. Well done.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Yep, speed running off the top of my head. Come on.
- 0:32Speaker 2: So it is a pretty busy time for the Gloom
- 0:34Speaker 2: of the Corner the moment.
- 0:35Speaker 4: So we'll start off with your new album, Royal Discordance,
- 0:38Speaker 4: which is out February twenty seven.
- 0:39Speaker 2: So how are you feeling, mate, Yeah, you're confident, You're.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Nervous, a little bit of column a, a little bit
- 0:45Speaker 1: of columb I think I'm definitely excited to get it out.
- 0:49Speaker 1: It's been a long time since we've properly released a
- 0:52Speaker 1: big body of work like this.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Definitely also nervous because.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's quite a drastic change compared to the last big
- 0:58Speaker 1: body of work we put out. So hopefully people like it.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Fingers crossed that the reception seems to be pretty good
- 1:04Speaker 1: so far, so I can't complain.
- 1:06Speaker 3: But yeah, definitely a bit of both for sure.
- 1:09Speaker 4: No, So we'll dive into the album in other respects
- 1:11Speaker 4: a bit more later on, but start off with your
- 1:12Speaker 4: tell us more about it musically and what are you're
- 1:14Speaker 4: going for?
- 1:15Speaker 1: So, I think like what we wanted to do mainly
- 1:18Speaker 1: was we wanted to take the best bits of Trinity
- 1:22Speaker 1: and rain them in quite a bit and make it
- 1:24Speaker 1: a little bit more structured, a little bit more digestible.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And that's more so from the live aspect. We realized
- 1:29Speaker 1: that like a lot of stuff that worked with Trinity
- 1:31Speaker 1: on record didn't work live just because there's so much
- 1:35Speaker 1: going on in that record. So yeah, we just wanted
- 1:39Speaker 1: to kind of, you know, grab like the best bits
- 1:42Speaker 1: by the Horns and rain it in a little bit
- 1:44Speaker 1: better just for as said, also for the sake of
- 1:47Speaker 1: the live show and everything like that. Yeah, that was
- 1:50Speaker 1: that's probably like the main point or like intension, I
- 1:53Speaker 1: guess with this record.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Yeah, And I read a band quote that said this
- 1:57Speaker 4: album is a concoction of chaos and revelry, which all
- 2:00Speaker 4: love can you to that a bit deeper?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think the we definitely still have
- 2:06Speaker 1: that chaotic side of us too that we have from Trinity,
- 2:10Speaker 1: but with the story, I guess being based so much
- 2:13Speaker 1: around a resistance faction in the story, we kind of
- 2:18Speaker 1: I wanted to use the term revelry as kind of
- 2:20Speaker 1: like a a call out for people like this is.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Yeah, like we're still the dark.
- 2:27Speaker 1: We still have dark and heavy moments and stuff like that,
- 2:29Speaker 1: but also at the same time, we have a lot
- 2:31Speaker 1: of lighter moments now, like a lot of happier moments,
- 2:34Speaker 1: which is I think very much reflected in the music.
- 2:38Speaker 3: So yeah, that was kind of where that was coming from.
- 2:39Speaker 1: We have a bit of chaos, a bit of hope,
- 2:42Speaker 1: a bit of gloom, a bit of everything.
- 2:45Speaker 4: But yeah, now while we're on quote, Suppress really says
- 2:49Speaker 4: that it's not your average metalcore album. Would you agree
- 2:53Speaker 4: with that?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Sure?
- 2:58Speaker 1: I have to, Yeah, No, I think it isn't like
- 3:01Speaker 1: I you know, I said, like we wanted to rein
- 3:04Speaker 1: it in and make it a little bit more digestible
- 3:06Speaker 1: or commercialize and everything, but we still wanted to have
- 3:09Speaker 1: it a little bit quirky and a little bit left
- 3:11Speaker 1: of center as.
- 3:12Speaker 3: We usually do.
- 3:15Speaker 1: But it's it's hard to kind of like comment on
- 3:16Speaker 1: that because we just kind of right the way that
- 3:18Speaker 1: we feel, the way that we.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Like, and it's it's an outsiders perspective of.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Not the average medal core album, and I'm like, it's
- 3:24Speaker 1: funny is in my mind? I'm like, damn, I tried
- 3:26Speaker 1: to make this as most metal core as possible or
- 3:31Speaker 1: most digestible as possible.
- 3:32Speaker 3: So the fact that they're still taking away from that,
- 3:34Speaker 3: I'm kind of going, huh, what are we able to forget?
- 3:38Speaker 1: What do?
- 3:40Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:40Speaker 1: I think it's I think yeah, I mean, it's definitely
- 3:43Speaker 1: still its own thing. But I mean I leave that
- 3:46Speaker 1: up to the people to decide whether or not it's
- 3:49Speaker 1: a normal metal core album or not.
- 3:51Speaker 2: What is a normal middle core album anyway?
- 3:53Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:56Speaker 2: You've spoken about.
- 3:57Speaker 4: The album Trinity a couple of times, twenty two album,
- 4:00Speaker 4: which was a massive success for you guys.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So was it can.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Mean to just rehash that winning formula on this one
- 4:06Speaker 4: that was important for you to step aside from that?
- 4:08Speaker 3: No?
- 4:08Speaker 1: No, it was very much like I knew you straight
- 4:10Speaker 1: from the get go, even before we realized that we
- 4:14Speaker 1: had to start writing stuff. From a more live based
- 4:17Speaker 1: aspect that I didn't want to do the same record twice.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I kind of have that ethos in my head. I
- 4:25Speaker 1: think it's it's probably changed like a little bit now,
- 4:27Speaker 1: like I want to kind of stay on the path
- 4:29Speaker 1: of what royalistcrdans has changed up a little bit obviously
- 4:33Speaker 1: like in the future, but mentally, like coming off the
- 4:37Speaker 1: back of Trinity, were like, I don't want to do
- 4:39Speaker 1: the same record twice. I know that Trinity is like
- 4:42Speaker 1: one big chaotic form of storytelling that ebbs and flows
- 4:46Speaker 1: and everything like that, but it was also a lot
- 4:50Speaker 1: of work to do, so more work than I'd ever done,
- 4:53Speaker 1: both from a storytelling and a writing perspective. So yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 1: it's I said, it's always I've always kind of said,
- 5:01Speaker 1: we try not to write the same record twice, And
- 5:03Speaker 1: that was very much the intention coming into Royal was
- 5:07Speaker 1: I'm like, if we do just like another Trinity, it's like,
- 5:11Speaker 1: what's the point. I want to continuously grow and evolve
- 5:13Speaker 1: and do new things and try new things and whatnot.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So yeah, it was very much the intention to not
- 5:18Speaker 1: make it way Trinity.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Right, but it does connect with Trinity with the narrative
- 5:23Speaker 4: and then the overflowing story arc.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So can you explain the narrative behind Royalist Goods?
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah, one hundred percent. Like as you said, it comes
- 5:31Speaker 1: right off the back of Trinity. We focus on one
- 5:36Speaker 1: of the characters, Clara, who forms a resistance faction against
- 5:39Speaker 1: like the big bad guy that comes in at the
- 5:41Speaker 1: end of Hail to the King and the start of
- 5:43Speaker 1: apocalyptic tyranny, and pretty much like follows the trials and
- 5:48Speaker 1: tribulations that she and the resistance go through over the
- 5:51Speaker 1: course of like the length of the record effectively. Yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: so taking a little bit of worldlife, real life experience,
- 5:59Speaker 1: a little bit of pop cold, a little bit of this,
- 6:01Speaker 1: that and the other. But that's the one line synopsis
- 6:05Speaker 1: of the story.
- 6:07Speaker 4: And how far into the future if you look at this, mate, like,
- 6:09Speaker 4: is it just something that's going to go indefinitely or
- 6:11Speaker 4: have you got to, like my album number seven, you
- 6:14Speaker 4: want to finish this and move.
- 6:15Speaker 1: On or no, I definitely have a start an endpoint.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I'm you know, like it's it's one of those things
- 6:20Speaker 1: I'll set myself being like, oh, I wanted to have
- 6:23Speaker 1: like the Trinity arc be like two albums, and then
- 6:26Speaker 1: it got to this one and I'm like, no, actually,
- 6:28Speaker 1: I want to make it three, And now that I
- 6:29Speaker 1: finished this one, I'm like, no, actually, I think it's
- 6:31Speaker 1: probably going to be four. So it's just one of
- 6:35Speaker 1: those it's like one piece, like we just keep adding
- 6:37Speaker 1: things to the arc and it just turns into a
- 6:39Speaker 1: thousand episodes for one season. But I promise it's not
- 6:44Speaker 1: going to be that long. I promise, But no, it's
- 6:46Speaker 1: it's like it's constantly evolving and changing. I do have
- 6:49Speaker 1: an I do have an endpoint for sure. I've figured
- 6:52Speaker 1: that out at the very least. It's kind of like
- 6:53Speaker 1: the journey of the way that we kind of get there.
- 6:56Speaker 3: So yeah, and I pan.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Out like a lot of this in advance, especially like
- 7:00Speaker 1: after the first few releases in the arc that that follows,
- 7:03Speaker 1: there was a lot of ret conning, and I screwed
- 7:05Speaker 1: up a lot of things along the way. So this time,
- 7:07Speaker 1: since at least since like Jericho and Trinity now through
- 7:10Speaker 1: to Royal, I'm very vigilant and making sure that everything
- 7:13Speaker 1: is cohesive and at least somewhat easy to follow.
- 7:17Speaker 4: So I'm noticed there's no actual song called Royal Discordance
- 7:20Speaker 4: on there, which to me signifies there's a deeper meaning
- 7:23Speaker 4: to that title.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yes, I mean it's as said coming off the back
- 7:27Speaker 1: of the tag. The story tagline for this album is
- 7:31Speaker 1: like it's it follows. I mean even the even the
- 7:35Speaker 1: quote the chaos and revelry that you know, Clara and her.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Resistance faction go through.
- 7:43Speaker 1: So yeah, however the title is dropped in I think
- 7:49Speaker 1: it's Army of darkness and that's life. So it is
- 7:53Speaker 1: it is mentioned somewhere in there. I like to try
- 7:56Speaker 1: and at least mention the album title somewhere across, like
- 8:00Speaker 1: all of our releases, whether it be in the song
- 8:03Speaker 1: title or et cetera.
- 8:05Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, I think.
- 8:06Speaker 1: It's reflective of both the story and then also a
- 8:11Speaker 1: little bit of the music I guess too. There's definitely
- 8:13Speaker 1: that triumphant flare to a few of the songs giving
- 8:16Speaker 1: it that royalty, but there's still a ton of chaos
- 8:19Speaker 1: to go through.
- 8:20Speaker 4: I love I love the word make. It's saying chaos.
- 8:23Speaker 4: It just made for my day.
- 8:27Speaker 3: That's what I live for.
- 8:29Speaker 4: This album was recorded in twenty twenty four in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 8:33Speaker 4: So why the gap between recording and releasing.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Very easy answer.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So it was just me that went over to Nashville,
- 8:44Speaker 1: so effectively, what happened was I flew over at the
- 8:48Speaker 1: start of October and me and our producer Jonathan Delze
- 8:54Speaker 1: did all of the vocals, but also all of the
- 8:57Speaker 1: production work, so like we just like, like, what's the term,
- 9:02Speaker 1: like mold the songs and everything like that to a
- 9:04Speaker 1: point where they're acceptable, and then we sent everything back.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Over to Jesse Clinch and Paul to do their parts
- 9:10Speaker 3: back here.
- 9:12Speaker 1: What we didn't kind of plan for was timing. So
- 9:18Speaker 1: I got back from the States at the start of November.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I had a little two or three week holiday between
- 9:26Speaker 1: album and getting back with my partner, and then we
- 9:30Speaker 1: got back and immediately went into our run with Hannahbia,
- 9:35Speaker 1: and then after our run with Hannah Bia, we pretty
- 9:38Speaker 1: much immediately flew to the UK to do our run
- 9:41Speaker 1: with Caine Hill. And then we got back from the
- 9:43Speaker 1: UK and it was Christmas time, and everybody gets busy
- 9:46Speaker 1: over Christmas, including John, so we had like a little
- 9:50Speaker 1: bit of time, so I get the files over and
- 9:51Speaker 1: across and everything and make sure everything was correct, and
- 9:55Speaker 1: then by the time that was all kind of sorted,
- 9:58Speaker 1: it was like mid January, and then as I said,
- 10:01Speaker 1: the world kind of kicks back up again, and so
- 10:06Speaker 1: we all only have like X amount of hours in
- 10:09Speaker 1: the day to like get stuff done. So that's kind
- 10:10Speaker 1: of what what dragged it dragged it out is a
- 10:13Speaker 1: bad way of putting it. We just we just got
- 10:15Speaker 1: lost for time. We didn't actually end up finishing everything
- 10:18Speaker 1: for the record until like May. Basically, yeah, pretty much.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I guess, like the only upside to that was because
- 10:28Speaker 1: I had done all of my work, I could pretty
- 10:31Speaker 1: much start prepped, like prepping everything for this album, so
- 10:33Speaker 1: getting like all the artwork done, like organizing music video staff, this,
- 10:37Speaker 1: that and the other. So that was kind of like
- 10:40Speaker 1: the saving grace, I guess. But yeah, it's it just
- 10:43Speaker 1: took a minute to kind of get everything done. And
- 10:45Speaker 1: then once the boys finished everything, me and John had
- 10:50Speaker 1: to like go through zoom sessions and like mix and
- 10:52Speaker 1: master all the songs because even though like we for sure.
- 10:58Speaker 3: You know, try to.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Rain everything in, there's still a lot of moving parts
- 11:00Speaker 1: throughout these songs, and it just made it more easier
- 11:03Speaker 1: to do it.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Over zoom session.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So by the time we actually got like the finals back,
- 11:08Speaker 1: it wasn't until like August.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yeah, right, Yeah, it's a bit of a bit of
- 11:12Speaker 3: a time.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But it goes by so quick.
- 11:15Speaker 4: People sort of look back from the outside and go
- 11:18Speaker 4: twenty twenty four. Well, yeah, but it doesn't happen that quick,
- 11:23Speaker 4: not sure. The other big news for you guys, if
- 11:26Speaker 4: you've got a tour coming up with King eight ten
- 11:28Speaker 4: in March.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Pretty exciting, mane.
- 11:32Speaker 1: It's a bucket list band for us for sure.
- 11:36Speaker 4: That was baking with David yesterday and then he said
- 11:38Speaker 4: the stiegs for this tour were actually stone the last
- 11:41Speaker 4: time they here within Heart's Wake a couple of years ago.
- 11:43Speaker 2: You just actually spoke about it.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Yes, we so.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Paul, our bassist, he also does some like stage handwork
- 11:51Speaker 1: and whatnot for a couple of our friends whenever they
- 11:54Speaker 1: need them for tours. So him and David met on
- 11:56Speaker 1: that in Heart's Wake run because Paul was stage teching
- 11:58Speaker 1: for him and they just became really good friends, and
- 12:03Speaker 1: so they always planned to do a tour here with us.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So it's been in the making for a little while. Yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 1: but yeah, so, I mean that's that's pretty much like
- 12:12Speaker 1: the ethos of it, and then like we finally got
- 12:15Speaker 1: around to doing it now.
- 12:16Speaker 3: So I'm very excited. I've been I've been a big.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Like King eight one O fan for a very long time,
- 12:21Speaker 1: like since memoirs have a murder dropped, so I'm excited
- 12:25Speaker 1: to finally play with them. I actually got to meet
- 12:27Speaker 1: David when we went to the States last year because
- 12:29Speaker 1: we kind of had a a little festival thing in
- 12:33Speaker 1: La where we combined two tours together. It was US
- 12:38Speaker 1: Angel Makers, he made his Last Breath Psycho frame and
- 12:41Speaker 1: then the other tour that combined was King eight one
- 12:44Speaker 1: oh Left to Suffer up on a Burning Body and
- 12:49Speaker 1: someone else that was on that package.
- 12:52Speaker 3: So it was cool.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Oh half me, that's it. So yeah, it was cool,
- 12:56Speaker 1: like we got to I got to meet him and
- 12:57Speaker 1: stuff like that. He's he's an interesting dude.
- 12:59Speaker 4: For very intend to me, very intense man. The other
- 13:05Speaker 4: good news coming up with you and touring is you
- 13:07Speaker 4: and the Hellbound cruise. So you're taking it to the water, mate.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, yes, should be good fun. Actually say,
- 13:14Speaker 1: I've said this a couple of times, but I'm saying
- 13:17Speaker 1: it should be good fun. I can't speak for our
- 13:19Speaker 1: drummer Clinchy who gets seasick.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Oh he's telling me then he's.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Gonna take whatever the whatever the pills are that counter
- 13:29Speaker 1: out motion sickness or whatever it is. But I've seen
- 13:32Speaker 1: that boy throw up in the back of an uber before,
- 13:34Speaker 1: went after having four beers, so I it remains to
- 13:40Speaker 1: be seen how it's going to go. I shouldn't throw
- 13:44Speaker 1: him nder the bus like that. It's actually his Yeah
- 13:46Speaker 1: already though, mate, so it doesn't matter. But yeah, no,
- 13:50Speaker 1: it should be fun. We're excited to do it.
- 13:52Speaker 2: No, sorry, but we better wrap this up.
- 13:54Speaker 4: But where can people find out more information about the
- 13:56Speaker 4: album and watch those you got coming up?
- 13:59Speaker 1: You can follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, We all
- 14:03Speaker 1: have our personals as well. You can follow the Sharp
- 14:05Speaker 1: Tone page or doing through a few collab things and whatnot. Yeah,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and if you like us, you can come see us
- 14:12Speaker 1: on the tour King Out one oer and maybe the
- 14:14Speaker 1: Help Out Cruise if people get resale tickets. I'm not
- 14:17Speaker 1: sure if that's a thing.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Actually, all right, brother, Well you take PM and habs
- 14:22Speaker 4: some good day and I see you Brisbane show for
- 14:24Speaker 4: King eight one am.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Indeed, thank you, sir, Thank you,
