- 0:00NFL Week 3 was absolutely batshit and everyone
- 0:04played like shit. MLB playoffs start today and they're already electric.
- 0:08And holy shit, Nick Saban really, really wants to go back into
- 0:12the Middle Ages. Ladies and gentlemen, it's a Tuesday night.
- 0:15You're amongst friends. Grab a drink. We're The Regulars. I'm Cody Decker.
- 0:18I'm Tonya Rae Fox. I just replaced my contact after the countdown
- 0:22started. It's going to be a good show. I vomited twice today. Cheers.
- 0:31Welcome one,
- 0:36welcome all. It's an incredible, incredible Tuesday night. And yeah, we had a Monday Night
- 0:40Football last night that was a bit of a shit show. Definitely gonna get into
- 0:42that. So much football this weekend. But Tanya,
- 0:45how's your eyesight? You just put in this new contact lens. It's great. I crushed
- 0:49it. I'm not gonna lie, that was necessary because I was like, it was the
- 0:51tiniest little spot, but I knew it was going to bother me and it was
- 0:53going to distract me. My ADHD cannot handle such things. At the time. I also
- 0:57just realized I have to keep an eye on— is the Red Sox game starting
- 1:01any second? It's getting starting soon. I don't know if it's any second, but it's
- 1:04getting— I thought it was at 5 PM. Is it at 5 PM? Oh shit,
- 1:07what do you think it's gonna start? I don't know, man. The first game today
- 1:10was at 11 o'clock our time. I can't keep up. I know, but it— but
- 1:13I mean, you can't have it any later than that, dude. We've had wall-to-wall baseball
- 1:16today. It's been badass. These are actually— I'm not kidding, these are like my favorite
- 1:192 weeks in all of sports because it's a combination of a few things.
- 1:22NFL action is going right now. NCAA college football action is going
- 1:26right now. The NBA is about to start, so we're really close to the sports
- 1:30equinox, which is my fucking favorite. Major League Baseball playoffs— these 2 weeks are
- 1:35my favorite time of Major League Baseball playoffs because— and the WNBA's in— WNBA's
- 1:39got playoffs. Like, it— like, we're just in a fucking— in
- 1:42a spot that I just dig. Oh, and if you're a hockey fan, hockey starts
- 1:46this week as well. Like, it's just kind of everything, and I fucking love it,
- 1:50man. By the way, Just checked in. Fever beating the
- 1:54Aces right now. That's why it's significant, by 13 points. Not supposed to be happening.
- 1:58Okay, so you know, things are getting interesting. So yeah, no, I'm with you on—
- 2:02I'm with you on that front. Um, this is the— the
- 2:05only thing that I would love for the autumn vibe that we're
- 2:09not getting is, uh, autumn in Los Angeles. I'm getting the autumn because
- 2:13people think that we don't have seasons here, Cody. We We do know
- 2:17we have a— we had a version of autumn at one point in
- 2:21LA. We did. It's not the autumn that everybody else gets, like in the Northeast
- 2:24or the Midwest or whatever, but like we did have it. Cools off, the breeze
- 2:28comes in, gets into like the mid-low 60s, and then we kind of
- 2:32like ride that out, you know, from like November to
- 2:36whatever. We are in the middle of the, like, a heat wave that's
- 2:40not— has no chances of stopping anytime soon. Dare I say it's not a heat
- 2:44wave? I'm going to call it something else. It's a humidity wave. We don't both
- 2:47fucking have this here. No, humidity is like it all.
- 2:50It's giving me reverse seasonal depression. I want
- 2:54fall. So the only thing that's giving me that vibe is the
- 2:58sports calendar. And I'm taking it. Yeah, and I'm taking it. So you
- 3:02survived Las Vegas. I survived Las Vegas. Foo Fighters were great and so were
- 3:06fucking Queens of the Stone Age. What a fucking show. I got some complaints,
- 3:10though. As a diehard Raider fan, I will mention this. There is one thing that's
- 3:13autumn that's really great. The autumn wind. The autumn wind is a
- 3:17Raider, blustering and beating the fuck out of your kids all
- 3:21the damn time. Isn't that how this— isn't that how
- 3:25the poem goes? Sure. The autumn wind is a Raider. It's beating the fuck out
- 3:28of your kids. They will laugh and smile and run all over the place.
- 3:31Listen, Hulkamania running wild. We're gonna get to it. It's a good time to be
- 3:34a Raider. It is a really good time to be a Raider fan. I don't
- 3:36think it's gonna last, but I'm really enjoying it right now. You know, I have,
- 3:40I have hopes we're going to get into it. We might as well get into
- 3:42it real quick. Before we get to that, I want to mention one thing about
- 3:44Vegas as a diehard Raider fan. That's right, dude. I went to Allegiant Stadium for
- 3:48the first time in my life. Yeah. How was it? It's dogshit. Really? I don't
- 3:51like Allegiant Stadium at all. I was really, really, really disappointed. I wanted it to
- 3:54be so much better. Like, there are things about it that are cool. The look
- 3:57of the outside is cool. The inside is okay. It's pretty open and okay
- 4:01to be breathable in there. But here's the thing I really didn't like. And as
- 4:05somebody that lives in Los Angeles, Born and raised in Los Angeles. My biggest complaints
- 4:08about Los Angeles sports are the stadiums. Not that they're bad stadiums.
- 4:11In fact, when you're at Dodger Stadium, I think it's the best-looking stadium in baseball.
- 4:15Well, that's not true, but it is great. It's getting in and out of Dodger
- 4:18Stadium that's fucking awful. Getting to the Rose Bowl is perfectly cool right now.
- 4:21Getting in and out of the Rose Bowl is a fucking nightmare. Um, getting to
- 4:24SoFi is great. Getting in and out of SoFi is a fucking nightmare.
- 4:28Yeah, I mean, Allegiant Stadium might be the worst I've ever seen.
- 4:31Yeah, that's rough. Might be the very, very worst.
- 4:34Like, the idea of it being worse than some of these other places that we're
- 4:38discussing, like, you know, it— that's pretty bad. So I'm taking
- 4:41your word for it. So they basically lead you out to walk out in
- 4:45one, like, single-file line to leave the stadium,
- 4:48to go over the overpass on the 15 to get you back over by Mandalay
- 4:51Bay. Yeah, everyone's walking as if it's Dawn of the Dead style zombies,
- 4:55that slowly. It took me to get from my spot
- 4:59at the stage in the concert to Mandalay
- 5:04Bay, just on the other side of the 15 freeway, that took me 54
- 5:07minutes. Yeah, that's fucking absurd.
- 5:11Anyone who knows me knows that slow walking is like— it gives
- 5:15me anxiety. Pet peeve. I like— it's an ADHD thing.
- 5:18Like, I can't— I walk really fast, and being stuck behind slow walkers
- 5:22literally makes my blood boil. So, uh, I have a lot of anxiety.
- 5:25Oh dude, it was the worst. But I would not have been able to handle
- 5:27it. So that being said, I, I don't know want to venture back over to
- 5:30SoFi— I'm sorry, to Allegiant anytime soon. However, Oasis is playing there
- 5:35next year. Okay, might be a reason. Well, they got to be playing somewhere else.
- 5:38Not on the West Coast. No, the only place they're playing out here is Las
- 5:42Vegas for some reason. Well, then we're going to have to start making money on
- 5:44this podcast so that we have expendable income. That makes sense. So that's— how about
- 5:48we just do that? Fine. Okay, we're gonna, we're gonna make a shit ton of
- 5:51money off this podcast. By the way, subscriptions are going up. We're at, uh,
- 5:551,140 and counting, and looking very forward to getting up there even more.
- 5:58Thank you everybody that's been joining us and really making this a lot of fun.
- 6:02So can't thank— can't stress that enough. Yes. Um, and if we are about to
- 6:05talk shit about your favorite football team, please forgive us.
- 6:09Uh, we, we know not what we— we know not what we're saying.
- 6:13I have a pretty good idea what I'm saying. Yeah, no, uh, unfortunately some,
- 6:16some teams suck. My team sucks, so everybody can just fucking relax. What are you
- 6:19talking about? The Ravens are great. That's right, baby. You're a fucking
- 6:22Ravens fan, man. Meanwhile, I'm wearing a Boston shirt.
- 6:26Yeah, I'm giving my shit away. Speaking of which, we might as well go ahead
- 6:30and get to that game. Yeah. Your team, my team,
- 6:33America's team. America's team in Brazil.
- 6:37America's team in Brazil. The Baltimore Ravens. As far as Brazil knows,
- 6:40the Baltimore Ravens are the greatest team in the history of professional sports.
- 6:45The Ravens beat the Cowboys in a thriller that I think is
- 6:49one of the better international games we've had since we were doing international
- 6:53games. Incredible, actually. 34-31. The NFL's
- 6:56first regular season game in Rio de Janeiro delivered one of the week's
- 7:00biggest moments. I would say one of the season's biggest moments so far.
- 7:04Lamar Jackson puts the Ravens in position to win the game with
- 7:097 seconds. So fucking cool. Like, this was— this was like—
- 7:13and I know this is Lamar Jackson we're talking about, 2-time MVP, but— and
- 7:17I apologize of the phrase because I've really only seen one other guy
- 7:21treat 7 seconds as if it's more time than 7
- 7:24seconds. This was Mahomes at Mahomes's greatest-esque.
- 7:28Yeah, like this— it was an unbelievable catch, an unbelievable pass.
- 7:32It was just so improbable. I was at a bar down
- 7:36in Hermosa Beach watching that and the Raider game at the same time. I,
- 7:40I just kept turning around yelling, screaming over and over and over again.
- 7:44It was fucking wild. It takes— it took everything It took
- 7:47execution on every level. And we, as sports fans,
- 7:51I think it's just a cool thing when you see something executed
- 7:55exactly perfectly, especially after how the Cowboys had just
- 7:59kind of squandered their opportunity to put the game away. It's like you saw a
- 8:03team that— that an offense that was cooking. Cowboys offense was cooking. Dak played really,
- 8:06really well. I'm not here to do the— did the Cowboys actually just
- 8:11collapse or did the Ravens win it? No, the Ravens fucking won it. Everybody can
- 8:14chill out on that. The Cowboys defense, their secondary is demolished.
- 8:18Their defense is always shit though, right? But like on top of
- 8:21it, it's like bad. Like they're in a bad way. Like there's defending
- 8:26Zay Flowers was always going to be a tall task as it was. Dak's doing
- 8:29everything he can. They waste that opportunity. Dak threw the ball away on purpose,
- 8:33guys. It wasn't a fucking— Yeah, that was so weird. Everybody losing their mind.
- 8:37How did you not know that that was a designed throwaway? Like, I don't under—
- 8:40Whatever. He was trying to save time on the clock. Yeah, I don't know where
- 8:44you guys— so they, you know, it was— but everything
- 8:48really was done perfectly. Lamar had to make the perfect throws.
- 8:51They had to get down and quickly enough for the play
- 8:55to end so that Lamar and whoever else could call the timeout with enough time
- 8:58on the clock. They did it. And then Tyler Loop had to make the sort
- 9:03of career reviving The,
- 9:07the reputation reviving kick that,
- 9:10by the way, would have been good by 70. I watched the replay of that
- 9:15field goal and where it landed and what their, you know,
- 9:18the trajectory was because it hit high in the— it did.
- 9:22So like it— when I tell you that kick would have been good by 70,
- 9:25Tyler Loop has been waiting for that shit since last year. Big time. He's thought
- 9:29about it every fucking day and you can tell. I like that.
- 9:33The more— perhaps the craziest part of all of it was
- 9:37seeing how calm Lamar
- 9:41Jackson was before he went back out. Yeah, they— he
- 9:46knew that there were— they had overtime potentially, right? Like, if they could just— like,
- 9:49that was like, okay, we might just go to overtime. But there was never a
- 9:53look of like fear or stress on his face before he went out for the
- 9:57final drive. Really cool.
- 10:00I love seeing a court— he didn't also didn't look like he was disconnected
- 10:05or anything. He was locked in. He was calm. And then after the
- 10:10celebration, how much the team rallied around Tyler Loop. And then we got a very
- 10:14rare Lamar Jackson postgame locker room
- 10:19speech. Did you see it? I didn't see it. He gave a speech. He did
- 10:23like a postgame locker room. No fucking way. Because I've never seen that one time.
- 10:25Doesn't do it. He's very much, I'm going to let the plays speak for myself
- 10:29type of leader. Yeah. He leads quietly behind the scenes, not in front of the
- 10:33cameras until he's on the field. And that's like, whatever. Oh yeah, we got to—
- 10:36we got— so it all felt like
- 10:40it was coming to like a momentum
- 10:44shift. Yeah. And it almost seems like Lamar Jackson has realized we
- 10:48just overcame a boogeyman and now is the time for me to capitalize on that,
- 10:51which I think is a really smart move. Another thing we
- 10:55should note is that the CBS broadcast had
- 10:59pointed out that they had,
- 11:04in all of these instances, very rarely actually won these
- 11:08games. The Ravens were in these situations where they had to have close comebacks.
- 11:12We watched it last week. I mean, the— what's the one thing they've had,
- 11:14though? They've been like the worst in the NFL over the last several years.
- 11:18The 4th quarter collapses all the time. So and they
- 11:22said the last 10 games in which they led by 8 or more points in
- 11:25the 2nd half, they had lost. And like, that,
- 11:30that's frustrating. Very. The broadcast
- 11:34had treated it like they were gonna lose, they had already lost the game.
- 11:36This is the fucking— this is the reason we watch football, dude, is it not?
- 11:41And I think that the coolest part about it was that I didn't look at
- 11:44the Cowboys and the— and Dak as having shit the bed.
- 11:48I— someone was gonna win that game and Lamar
- 11:52was the better, was the better quarterback, and Zay Flowers was the better receiver,
- 11:56and the, and everything was going their way in that moment. Um,
- 12:00and their defense made just enough plays. I,
- 12:04you know, they can't tackle. I don't know if you noticed that. I don't love
- 12:07how the Ravens can't seem to tackle. Not a huge fan of that. But they
- 12:10did show up in that short field red zone situation. Yeah. And,
- 12:14uh, man, I don't know. It's, it's— what was your,
- 12:17like, when you come away from that game Did you feel more like,
- 12:21holy shit, the Ravens just did something awesome, or did you feel like the Cowboys
- 12:25blew it? I did not think of it the Cowboys blew it. Like, yeah,
- 12:27I can see where people are getting there. I just thought this was a hard-fought
- 12:30game back and forth. You know what my takeaway was? My actual takeaway from this
- 12:34game. Yeah. And I want to apologize specifically to Zay
- 12:37Flowers, sir. I guess I just was not aware of your game.
- 12:41I've, I've kind of undervalued Zay Flowers from the get-go.
- 12:45I have to. He was a fucking monster in that game and that catch was
- 12:47fucking phenomenal. Like he was. Great. He was a difference maker in
- 12:50this game. You're not the only one. I have spent years
- 12:54saying Zay Flowers is more like a number 2. That's what I've
- 12:58always thought. Every time I've ever seen him play, he's elevated himself
- 13:02from— it's not just new this year. Zay Flowers has been great,
- 13:06but right now he's playing like a number 1 receiver. And that's something that Lamar's
- 13:10never really had. That's phenomenal for somebody who just got paid as a number 1
- 13:13guy. Like, normally when you see a guy get paid as a number 1 guy,
- 13:16You know, we saw what Vladdy Guerrero Jr. said last week in a very,
- 13:20very ill-timed type of quote. Oh, I'm getting paid for what my production
- 13:24was before, not what I'm going to do in the future. And it's like,
- 13:26well, that's not how it works. We don't like to hear that. Yeah, there might
- 13:29be a modicum of truth to that, but no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 13:32Don't say it. Don't ever fucking say that again, please. Definitely don't think it,
- 13:34please, if you're a Blue Jays fan, because you need to play good for the
- 13:37next 15 years, idiot. No, I'm glad
- 13:41you said that because Justice for Zay Flowers. I,
- 13:45you know, and to be fair to me, he— that's how he produced.
- 13:48He produced as a dude who had these amazing catches but just like did
- 13:53not have the production level of a true number one. Like, the consistency— have like,
- 13:56like, I mean, when we were seeing, you know, what Ja'Marr Chase and
- 14:00like what Stefon Diggs did with the Bills, and like these dudes, they'd have
- 14:041,500, 1,600-yard seasons, and like we weren't seeing that. But what
- 14:08he's doing right now is so game-changing, and You think about it, you're like,
- 14:11man, would Zay Flowers have been the difference in
- 14:15the game before when they had to, you know, ride it out with Rashad Bateman?
- 14:18By the way, let's not forget that Derrick Henry remains a motherfucking
- 14:22monster. Mm-hmm. Unreal. Remains like such
- 14:26a core. Now, he got stopped a couple of times. There were like the— there
- 14:29were a few moments where he couldn't finish things out to try
- 14:33to give the Ravens the opportunity to close out the game earlier. It happens.
- 14:37But Derrick Henry was fantastic. And Lamar's numbers,
- 14:4115 of 20 for 186 yards, 2 touchdowns, no picks, 6 carries
- 14:44for 50 yards. But the timing on everything was so perfect.
- 14:48And his efficiency— we always talk about this— he's so efficient
- 14:52and he's so like— he, I think, is one
- 14:56of those people where I don't care what the yardage totals were as a passer.
- 14:59Yeah, sometimes they're, you know, he doesn't clear 300 yards that
- 15:03often. But it doesn't— when he, when he throws the ball,
- 15:07it's just so efficient. He does not make bad plays.
- 15:11And we're going to talk about some quarterbacks in this show that rely on just
- 15:16giving it a go and seeing what happens. He doesn't fucking do it. Oh,
- 15:19I love him so much. He's great. Oh, he's so good. Fucking phenomenal. Cody's so
- 15:23good at football. And especially the week after— the week before, because, you know,
- 15:26he threw that interception, which clearly was some sort of miscommunication. But like,
- 15:29it was just— that wasn't a reckless throw. No, it was a, you know,
- 15:32it's just clearly a miscommunication. And this was not every interception is reckless
- 15:36or fully on the quarterback. Uh, we'll differentiate that. We do.
- 15:39We very much do. Now, we don't call them arm punts. No,
- 15:43like, there was— there were arm punts we were going to mention.
- 15:46Dude, there's some fucking— we got a king of the arm punts in this show
- 15:50that I don't think is getting enough shit, and it's not Josh Allen. Oh,
- 15:52that's great to hear. Well, let's go ahead and get to the next game.
- 15:54Let's, let's call it what we need to call it: the, the Orlovsky
- 15:57Bowl. The Orlovsky Bowl. Your dream matchup, people.
- 16:01Justin Herbert versus Josh Allen. Got him, baby. Couple of,
- 16:05couple of, you know, highly touted,
- 16:09equally successful quarterbacks. 100%.
- 16:13I want it on record that this is,
- 16:16this is a Josh Allen performance that we've seen before. Yes.
- 16:20Okay. Bad. This happens like once a season. Yes, it was bad.
- 16:23He looked like shit. Hopefully. Yeah, I hope so too. You know, but let's be
- 16:27real clear. He looked like shit. He looked like shit. Those unis looked like shit
- 16:31too, by the way. They sure did. And by the way, I didn't know this.
- 16:33I learned this. I don't know if there's any Bills fans in the chat,
- 16:36but I learned this from the Bills fans on Threads during— while I was live
- 16:39tweeting about these games. They have a— they have
- 16:43a fan curse around alternate uniforms. Like when
- 16:47they wear their weird alternate uniforms, they lose stupid fucking games. Apparently this
- 16:51is a Bills fandom thing that they all know. I got dozens of comments
- 16:55about the uniforms. It's the fucking uniforms. And I know being a fan, like,
- 16:58you have these things in your head, so I totally get it. I don't think
- 17:01it was the uniforms, but it's okay for Bills fans to insist.
- 17:05Quickly, the Bills won 24 to 16. Josh Allen
- 17:09had 2 interceptions, 1 lost fumble. James Cook lost a fumble.
- 17:12Dalton Kincaid lost a fumble. And Buffalo also committed 10 penalties for 88
- 17:16yards. And so you would think that they'd lost. You would have
- 17:21thought they lost big after giving away 5 turnovers. They gave
- 17:24the Chargers the ball 5 extra times.
- 17:28And still won by 9. Yes. The fuck
- 17:31is going on with the Chargers?
- 17:34So bad. Um, it's awful. It was a
- 17:38really unusual win. Uh, the Chargers really
- 17:42did have every opportunity to win this game. This very much was
- 17:45the Chargers repeatedly trying to give it away. There was
- 17:49no excuse in my opinion. I actually, like, listen, I, I don't
- 17:53I'm never a knee-jerk reaction of somebody getting fired, especially early in the season.
- 17:57Like when somebody gets fired after 6 games, I was like, really? That's not much
- 17:59of a— that's a bit rough. I'm actually surprised someone wasn't fired
- 18:03after this game. I genuinely do think that I,
- 18:07I don't think it would be an overreaction to fire Jim Harbaugh. I actually really
- 18:10don't. I really don't. This is
- 18:14bad shit. And if they were 1-1, if they
- 18:18were 1-2, 2-0, you know, whatever. Before heading into this game
- 18:22and you were like, had seen a little bit, oh, it's a backslide. They've just
- 18:25been bad. They've just been bad. They got their fucking asses handed to them by
- 18:29a Patriots offense in the playoffs that is useless,
- 18:33right? Like, well, it was the defense that took— like, that fucked them up.
- 18:35But still, I just like— it's been a lot. So the, uh,
- 18:39the Chargers led 10-0, uh, uh,
- 18:4210-0. It was 10-10, then it was 13-10. Things were
- 18:47really starting to fall apart before Justin
- 18:51Herbert threw the sort of backbreaking pick.
- 18:54Here's the thing. Before we get to Justin Herbert, I want
- 18:59to— I want to talk about Josh Allen. Okay.
- 19:03So Josh Allen has a thing that
- 19:07I think I will refer to as it feels Brett
- 19:12Favre-esque. It feels Matt Stafford in Detroit as
- 19:15gunslinger type of shit, which, yeah, sort of.
- 19:19But it— what, what it is, and I think Matt Stafford's actually— I think Josh
- 19:22Allen might be the worst at this, MVP caliber quarterback
- 19:26that I've ever seen, which is he does
- 19:29not know how to be okay in a game.
- 19:34Every great quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson,
- 19:38you know, Joe Montana, Steve Young, John Elway, whoever you want to talk about,
- 19:42every great quarterback has to be okay with
- 19:46having a game where they're just okay. You don't have to be Superman.
- 19:50Maybe it's not your day. Maybe it's a James Cook day.
- 19:53Maybe it's a defense day. Maybe it's a special teams day. Yeah, maybe you're just
- 19:57fucking out of sorts for whatever reason, or they've got your number. Because the chart—
- 20:01I will say the Chargers defense was doing work. Yeah, Chargers defense busted their ass.
- 20:06And I think that Josh Allen has a massive mental block around
- 20:11like not executing early and then starting to fall off
- 20:15mentally. I think he's a mentally weak quarterback in that way. Do I think
- 20:19he's mentally weak all the time? No. But he— there's a front-running thing
- 20:23that happens with Josh Allen where— and it's not about the score,
- 20:26it's about how he's playing specifically that causes
- 20:30this thing to happen where it's like Josh Allen's either playing at an MVP level
- 20:34in a game, he is the best player on the field, or he's giving the
- 20:38game away and he's causing a ripple effect across the course of his offense.
- 20:42And I find this to be a fatal flaw in an otherwise
- 20:45elite player.
- 20:49Yes. Yeah. I'm just realizing a comparison that immediately came to my mind.
- 20:53Give it to me. He's Jack from Lost. He can't—
- 20:58he needs to be in control. He actually has to be in control. He doesn't
- 21:01feel like alive or existing unless he is in
- 21:05absolute control. He is Jack from Lost. He can't— this can't
- 21:09be a Kate episode. No, no, Jack needs to be in control. Can't be Sawyer.
- 21:12No, it's gotta be Jack in control. That's Josh Allen. It's just— it's
- 21:15like he has ADHD about it. He can't help it. If he's
- 21:19not doing the most contributing, he's gonna find a way to
- 21:23contribute the most. And I don't actually think it's the— an ego
- 21:27thing. I don't think so either. I actually think it is a like like,
- 21:30uh, an inability to function when things
- 21:33are— it's like he, he loses the plot. So I don't think
- 21:37if you sat him down and like— I think if you asked him, he would
- 21:40genuinely say, I don't care if I score 0 touchdowns and, and James
- 21:44Cook has 5 touchdowns and 400 yards in a game, I want to win the
- 21:47game. I think he believes that. I don't think he knows how to operate in
- 21:50that space. One of the things I always thought was so underrated
- 21:55about Tom Brady and why I thought he was better than Peyton Manning, better than
- 21:58Drew Brees, better than Aaron Rodgers. Every time I
- 22:01like— this was always the thing that separated him the most to me was
- 22:05that he was always deeply comfortable with,
- 22:10with understanding the matchup they were in and knowing when it
- 22:14was time to hand the ball off, when it was time to like not try
- 22:18to throw deep. He would read the weather situations, he would read the defenses,
- 22:21he would read all of the situations at play. And he would feel the game
- 22:24out to understand what he needed to do. So if you needed him to pass
- 22:27for 400 yards, he'd do it. Yeah, he would. And he would throw it to
- 22:30some random dude you never heard of who used to play fucking like kickball.
- 22:34Oh, don't worry, he'd make that guy a star. He'd make that— and but
- 22:37then there's— he has more running backs across the course of
- 22:41his season, individual instances where running backs would have 3 or more touchdowns than
- 22:45any quarterback of his era. Multiple running backs
- 22:49would have Like that you've forgotten their names, had 3 touchdown games with Tom Brady.
- 22:53You're absolutely right. I completely forgot their names. And so that is like,
- 22:57that is something that I just don't see from Josh Allen. And that it
- 23:02is the— it is this like fatal flaw that he's carried over from his early
- 23:05days when he was really like a struggling young player.
- 23:10James Cook, we actually have a graphic. It's the PFF
- 23:14graphic, Mocha, if you want to pull that up. Is the type
- 23:18of player that can carry your offense in games like this where the quarterback
- 23:22is struggling. He has the most rushes this season over 10 yards,
- 23:2512, right ahead of Jahmyr Gibbs, Kenneth Walker, Jonathan Taylor,
- 23:29Bijan Robinson. These are 5 of the best, easily 5 of the best
- 23:33running backs in the league. This is a guy who can get you chunk
- 23:37yardage, right? And he can catch.
- 23:41He can do everything you need him to do. There's no excuse for hero
- 23:44ball from a quarterback who's struggling. It happens.
- 23:49And I don't know what, what's going on there. You know, it always drives me
- 23:52nuts, though, whenever— and I've seen this happen a couple of times already this season,
- 23:55like James Cook will go on, break out for like a large run and they're
- 23:58within 5 and fucking pulls a Coach Kilmer play where we were,
- 24:02okay, now we're going to let Josh Allen run again. Why? Yeah.
- 24:05I mean, now, now, granted, James Cook has had a 16-touchdown season with
- 24:09Josh Allen. Yes, he has. So like, this is not— No, he's not taking things
- 24:12away. I'm just saying, like, I get mad whenever James Cook runs it to the
- 24:165 because I know he's not going to get the touchdown. Yeah, I get so
- 24:18mad with like a lot of— yeah, it's like they'll let him run it in,
- 24:20but if he stops at the 5, as you were saying. But yeah, and I
- 24:23need to make it clear, like, Josh Allen does not need to— not— he doesn't
- 24:27need to prove anything to me in terms of like his ability to— like,
- 24:30he's great. And this is not me saying— I do think
- 24:33this is a flaw he needs to work on, and I don't think he's
- 24:36had the coaching to help him do it. I think that, that coaches like
- 24:41Andy Reid and Bill Belichick have really helped their quarterbacks understand
- 24:46what you need to do at a quarter— at the quarterback position beyond some of
- 24:49this other stuff. And I think Josh Allen and Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson
- 24:53have suffered from coaches who don't know how
- 24:57to give them that kind of guidance. So it's not just that.
- 25:02On the Justin Herbert front. Yeah. As soon as that game
- 25:05was over, I did a little research. Now,
- 25:09my research ended up getting picked up by other people, obviously, because it's really
- 25:12good. I believe this shit was like out within like 30 minutes of the
- 25:16game. Give it to me. So I didn't see this. Yes.
- 25:20I did a little search, as I do, for teams
- 25:24that where their opposition, their opposing team
- 25:29had 5 or more turnovers They themselves had one or fewer
- 25:33turnovers and they lost that game.
- 25:36Okay. It's happened 9
- 25:42times in the 21st century. How many?
- 25:46This game was the most recent since 2022.
- 25:50Uh, it was the— in 2023, it was the 2022 season,
- 25:54um, in the playoffs when the Chargers About
- 25:57to say, how many times has Justin Herbert done exactly this? Did this.
- 26:01The most recent time before that was in 2015,
- 26:05Week 17. Okay, so it wasn't him. It was the Chargers.
- 26:11It was the Chargers with Philip Rivers. This has
- 26:15happened 3 times since 2011,
- 26:19and it's all— the only people who've done it are the Chargers.
- 26:23Doesn't matter who's quarterbacking, doesn't matter who— what city they're fucking
- 26:27playing in because they were in San Diego. This is Charger Ring. Yeah.
- 26:30When we say Charger Ring, there's a statistical reality behind
- 26:34Charger Ring. I find it to be like spooky. Like, that's fucking spooky
- 26:38shit. It's wild. And what I found out today to add on to this little
- 26:43insanity of the Charger Ring situation, the last
- 26:47time the Bills won despite 5 turnovers or more
- 26:50was in 1997 when the Chargers'
- 26:53current quarterback— Chargers' current head coach, Jim Harbaugh, was the
- 26:57opposing quarterback. No fucking way. Like, this shit's nuts.
- 27:01Now, I know this isn't the craziest game breakdown, but let's be honest, it's fucking
- 27:05weird. That is weird. I want to ask you a question because
- 27:09we all know that this game was a disaster and that the Chargers are not
- 27:11good, dude. Their offense is not good. Their defense is actually fine and
- 27:15doing pretty good. Where is the actual
- 27:19weak link here? The offense is broken. I don't see a ton
- 27:23of, like, hope for this current iteration based on
- 27:27what we've seen from Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert over the last 2 seasons,
- 27:31let alone right now. What— where's the
- 27:35actual weak link? Is it Justin
- 27:39Herbert? Is it the coaching? Like, is it the coordinating?
- 27:43Because I'm the least likely to Blame Mike
- 27:47McDaniel because he's new. He's brand new and this has already been a trend for
- 27:50years, right? Like, here's the thing, I, I want to say, I want
- 27:54to, I honestly want to look at Herbert first. Okay. And but hear me out,
- 27:57but I also see the flaw in that, that argument right out the gate.
- 28:00So I'm happy to look at Justin Herbert first. So am I. But I'm gonna
- 28:03look at Justin Herbert because it's been, this is the 7th season. That's, that's the
- 28:06thing. Like, people still like, well, he's young and still growing.
- 28:09It's the 7th fucking season. We're no longer young and growing.
- 28:13He's a veteran quarterback now. It's 7 years now.
- 28:17I mean, he came into the league the same year as Jalen Hurts, who's been
- 28:20to the Super Bowl twice, twice, and won a Super Bowl MVP. Yeah, it's just
- 28:24also— there's just— but I'm also understanding that
- 28:28he's had during his time 4 head coaches,
- 28:31like 7 different coordinators, and some of those coordinators were like
- 28:35diametrically just the opposite of what he's doing right now.
- 28:39So I am at least understanding of that. But again, you're an
- 28:43NFL quarterback that's being paid an ungodly amount of money in this team, and everyone
- 28:47is telling me you're the greatest for all these years. I, I just— I,
- 28:50I— it honestly has frustrated me so much because
- 28:54I feel like I'm constantly being gaslit by all the experts out there that
- 28:58just love how this white kid throws the fucking football, except he doesn't win
- 29:02and he never has won. And And I don't believe he's ever gonna.
- 29:06And right now he's not even statistically good. No. And now he's legitimately bad.
- 29:09And then I want to look at Jim Harbaugh because at least Jim Harbaugh's only
- 29:12been there for a couple of years. And at least in, in his time,
- 29:16he took them to the playoffs already and they had a decent season. And then,
- 29:19then you got the Mike McDaniel of it all because of the thing you just
- 29:22said. Holy shit, this offense is legitimately broken. All right. So we've given up
- 29:25on the Chargers at this. Like, I, I never— my whole thing is
- 29:29I never get on board with Chargers. Never. Um, and I haven't since 2000— what
- 29:33was it, what was it, the 2007— the Chargers
- 29:38team that had the statistical best offense and best defense in the
- 29:42league and missed the playoffs. And I was like, I'm out on this. Yeah,
- 29:45yeah, you know. Um, all right,
- 29:50just want to make sure we highlight the juxtaposition of the
- 29:54how it's supposed to look quarterback bowl versus the how it actually
- 29:58works quarterback bowl. Okay, because the first game we talked about
- 30:02was 2 MVP-caliber quarterbacks. Dak almost won an MVP a couple
- 30:06of times. Lamar has 2. They played lights out in Rio, represented the
- 30:09game beautifully in a foreign country for the fans of Rio, played the
- 30:14fucking— their asses off. What a game. Uh, so I'm starting to think
- 30:18there's no one way that a quarterback looks, and that quarterback looks like being really
- 30:22good for a long time regardless of
- 30:26how white or tall or blond you
- 30:30are. Yeah, I'm starting to think that because the tall, white, blond guys put on
- 30:34a fucking shitfest. Yeah, shitfest. Sure did. Justin Herbert's getting shit.
- 30:39Josh Allen is on get your shit together watch,
- 30:42not he's going to be fine. That team's going to win their division. They're going
- 30:45to be in the playoffs. No question. But he's got to figure that out.
- 30:47No question about it. But listen, I'm going to put it on those gray,
- 30:50ugly-ass fucking jerseys. Whatever. Not great. Well, you're with the Bills fans. Yeah, I'm with
- 30:54them. Those things are dogshit. Eagles-Bears. Wow,
- 30:58boy, did everyone football get this one wrong.
- 31:02I mean, I mean, I hammered,
- 31:04hammered the idea that the Philadelphia Eagles were going to win this by fucking
- 31:0830. Case Keenum hadn't started. I will say I did not think that was gonna
- 31:12happen. Oh, I did. I thought for sure, just because I thought, I thought their
- 31:15defense would have played fine. I thought their offense would be efficient on the Chicago
- 31:19Bears. I wasn't expecting Case Keenum to turn the clock back to 2017.
- 31:22Fucking be the best quarterback in the NFL this week. Like, he looked
- 31:26unbelievable. Hadn't started a game in over 1,000 days. It was December 22nd,
- 31:302023. He fucking looked incredible
- 31:35and efficient. And my God, the Eagles looked—
- 31:39and I cannot stress this enough— the Eagles looked like
- 31:43a fucking peewee football team. They looked like shit on every
- 31:47single front. I, you know, there was a lot going on
- 31:50with the Eagles, um, and there has been for the last couple couple games that
- 31:54I think Jalen pulled them out of. And that, like, he did that game in
- 31:56Tennessee. Yeah, like, really has, has been— I think he's actually in a position where
- 32:00he's carrying a pretty rough team right now. Um, Case Keenum.
- 32:05So the thing that I loved about this is that Case Keenum
- 32:10is a quarterback who, in— when he was in his
- 32:14best season was Minnesota 2017. I think they were like 14-2,
- 32:1813-3, something crazy. Like, it was a good team, made the playoffs,
- 32:22things fall apart Minnesota Vikings style. But he
- 32:26was putting up like all season like 110,
- 32:29120 passer rating games. Like he was really good
- 32:32that year. And that was kind of like the last time I really thought about
- 32:36Case Keenum. And when I saw that he was going to be the backup quarterback
- 32:41for Ben Johnson, I was like, okay, he knows that this is a reliable
- 32:44vet that can do, like you said, He'll run the offense,
- 32:48he'll run a dumbed-down sort of version of— won't turn the ball
- 32:51over. Yeah. Or, you know, like he's gonna get— and they'll just hold—
- 32:56they'll hold the line. Bears defense had something to prove anyway because
- 32:59they've struggled a little bit off the top. They allowed a lot of points to
- 33:02the Panthers. They lost last— so like, okay,
- 33:06this is a game where it wasn't just that
- 33:11he was serviceable. He was really running Ben Johnson's offense.
- 33:16They had their quick rhythm passing going.
- 33:19Like, it was not just like stride all the time. It was—
- 33:23he was 10 for 10 for 140 yards
- 33:28against blitzes. Like, he was perfect under pressure. Incredible.
- 33:31I mean, that's some crazy shit. That is some— this is
- 33:35my moment and I know I'm not getting this opportunity again. Very likely.
- 33:38He was like looking at watching a movie. It literally was holding his kids after
- 33:42the game, the speech he gave after the game. I said he gave like an
- 33:45award show acceptance. Like, I— yeah, I want to thank God, my family.
- 33:49I nearly fucking teared up. He was really, really cute. I was like,
- 33:52holy shit. I will say I do hate when they're like, thank God. Like,
- 33:56you know, it's not my favorite. Not that they're thanking God, but I hate when
- 33:59they do the like the insinuation that God helped them win
- 34:02the game. Thank God God loves the Bears. Yeah, because I was like Yeah.
- 34:06Sorry. Sorry, Jalen. God hated you today. It was all about Case.
- 34:10But that's a, that's a personal little beef. It's not actually for Case. I was
- 34:13actually really happy for him. I did like that he was like accepting a Golden
- 34:17Globe at the end, like with Laura Rutledge. But, but more
- 34:21than anything, I'm just so impressed with Ben Johnson.
- 34:26And he picked Case Keenum specifically to
- 34:31do something like that if they, if they needed him. And he did. And this
- 34:34is the type of thing where if the Bears were to make a Super Bowl
- 34:36run, Case Keenum earned his fucking ring. You ain't lying. I love
- 34:40that. That's awesome. I love that. It's really cool. That's the opportunity that,
- 34:44like, that win could be the difference. They are going to be in a dogfight
- 34:47apparently with the Vikings. Like, the Vikings refuse to lose.
- 34:51Not a great team. And by the way, to lose— and by the way,
- 34:53Kyler, like, was efficient enough on Sunday for somebody
- 34:58who, like, just can't seem to, like, stay on the field and develop a rhythm.
- 35:01I thought he did fine. He did fine. Like, I mean, way better than JJ
- 35:04McCarthy. You don't think the Vikings are kind of a formidable force? They're a good
- 35:07team, but like, they're not like until we can see some sort of like consistency
- 35:11on that offense, defensively they're a monster. They're a monster because
- 35:14they have Brian Flores. But, you know, as far as the— this
- 35:19is not just about, you know, Philly. The defense itself
- 35:24played really well. They forced 3 turnovers. They held Jalen Hurts to 153 passing
- 35:27yards. They held Philadelphia to under 250 total yards. They started the
- 35:31second half with 3 consecutive defensive stops. Held the Eagles to
- 35:352 of 9 on 3rd down. And they really shut down Saquon Barkley,
- 35:39which is halftime adjustments. It's a well-coached team. They're,
- 35:42they're making adjustments. They're figuring out how to win without their starting quarterback,
- 35:45who's one of the most dynamic players in the, in the entire league.
- 35:51The Eagles are the only team in the NFL
- 35:55in Super Bowl era to have a game with under
- 35:5950 offensive plays, under 250 total yards,
- 36:0210+ penalties, 3+ giveaways, no takeaways, and no sacks.
- 36:06This was one of the— to your point, I mean, I think you called it
- 36:09dog shit or whatever, but like, this is one of the like most inefficient,
- 36:13useless sort of performances all around that we've seen. Well, you mentioned, you mentioned
- 36:18like postgame interviews. You want to talk about the massive juxtaposition, the fucking
- 36:21polar opposite of what we got out of Case Keenum and, and, and Ben
- 36:25and everybody else that was excited about that victory? Did you see
- 36:28everybody on the Eagles after the game? It was like everyone was at a
- 36:32fucking funeral. Well, you know what? I think when
- 36:36Jalen took that hit, that was a bad hit. Which, by the way,
- 36:39I don't think it was dirty. I think he— that guy was running really fast.
- 36:43It's one of those things. A dirty hit. Yeah, it's like one of those things
- 36:46you slow down and it's always a little bit worse. Like, I'm not a big
- 36:49fan of calling everything a bang-bang play because everybody, like, we'll get into it later,
- 36:53but like everybody calls everything in the NFL a bang-bang play. Which it kind of
- 36:55is a little bit, but like that motherfucker was running 100 miles an hour.
- 36:58And like, I, I, I— Jalen pushes
- 37:02it and he, he was pushing it really hard yesterday. He was not going down.
- 37:05He was taking like tough tackles because he knew he had to.
- 37:08But when you lose, I don't think he came back
- 37:13into the game fully good. I'm not saying they put him back
- 37:16in with a concussion. I'm not saying they didn't because it's the NFL, but like
- 37:20that's That was a hit, and they did not spend a lot of time talking
- 37:23about it. No. And I will also admit,
- 37:26he didn't look, uh, nearly as good for the rest of the game.
- 37:30Now, he did not. And Andy Dalton immediately threw a pick, so he set him
- 37:32up to fail coming back too, in the red zone too.
- 37:36So, you know, I, I think it's weird that— no,
- 37:39I mean, I, I think it's weird. I, I'm not surprised when,
- 37:43when quarterbacks take hits like that and come back in and just look like really
- 37:47bad on top of the rest of the team looking really bad and they can't
- 37:50just carry the rest of the team. Normally we talk about the fact that like
- 37:53maybe they're not right after that fucking massive hit they took from
- 37:56a 3— 3— a dude running 30 miles an hour,
- 38:00right? It was a big hit. He hit that ground fucking hard.
- 38:03Like it was like one of those things like, you know, when like somebody's like
- 38:07full speed and you see them, it's like somebody getting in a motorcycle accident.
- 38:09You know, you've seen it, like how they hit the pavement and just like slide
- 38:12and like you're like That's what happened to him. He like hit the ground and
- 38:15like slid, like by bounce sliding. Like it's— it was ugly.
- 38:19I think Philly is in trouble. I think you're right. I think they're in trouble.
- 38:22And I don't think it's because of Jalen. And, you know, a lot of people
- 38:25want to put it on Sirianni. I'm not sure I'm putting it on Sirianni either.
- 38:29I don't like the way this roster is constructed. I don't like what they
- 38:33decided to do in terms of like you get rid of AJ Brown and don't
- 38:36fully— just don't fully figure out how to readjust the offense.
- 38:39Are the Bears— and we just talked about the Vikings are 3-0,
- 38:42one of 5 teams— are the Bears in the argument
- 38:46for the best team in the NFC offensively? I will definitely
- 38:51say yes. Right now, after 3 games in, I think
- 38:54it'd be foolish to not say they're in the argument. They're absolutely in the argument.
- 38:58So you put them like— like their one loss was a shitshow game because it
- 39:02was in a horrible rainstorm. You know, Caleb got hurt.
- 39:05Division rival. It wasn't like it was a blowout game. It was, what, fucking 9-3?
- 39:08It was like it was dogshit game. Would you put them
- 39:11top 3 in fantasy? I— would you put them over the Vikings?
- 39:16I'm gonna put them neck to neck with the Vikings right now. I'll put them
- 39:19over the Vikings. You're gonna put them over the Vikings? The only reason is because
- 39:22I think that their defense looked much more dynamic last night,
- 39:26and I think offensively they are better than the Vikings. I mean,
- 39:30they just are better than the Vikings. I just think the rest of that division
- 39:33isn't good. I think, I think the Lions are in trouble, and I think the
- 39:35Packers are flat out bad. Yeah, yeah. Um, all right, uh,
- 39:39quickly, let's go to your Raiders. Oh baby, my guys, this— what
- 39:43a life, what a world. I'm so fucking happy. Is this what joy is?
- 39:46I think so. This is what joy is, huh? Yeah, I have not experienced
- 39:50this. I'm living a really weird life as a football fan. I got my UCLA
- 39:53Bruins 4-0, I got fucking the Raiders 3-0. Like,
- 39:57I'm waiting, I'm waiting for the worst possible
- 40:01thing to happen to both of these teams. Well, here's the thing.
- 40:04The Raiders, for the first 2 games,
- 40:08you're like, okay, we'll see. Then they go up against another team where we're like,
- 40:12where we're like, oh, well, we got to— let's find out what they're really about.
- 40:15And they out— they sort of outperformed them in a way where the
- 40:19Saints had been outperforming other teams, which was in the 4th quarter. Saints kind
- 40:23of have a meltdown. Raiders step up. Kirk Cousins goes Kirk O'Chains on
- 40:27there. He really did. Brock Bowers might be like
- 40:31a top 3 offensive player in the league right now. He was such a difference
- 40:34maker. It was not normal. Normal for that shit to come back
- 40:37and audit like first game back to perform like that.
- 40:41Um, dude, his catch is for 116 yards,
- 40:451 touchdown, 13 targets. He had a 30— he,
- 40:48he had 34, 37 yards on the opening drive
- 40:52alone. That is— he is an absolute monster.
- 40:56It makes me really inspired,
- 41:00uh, about their chances that they had already won 2 games without him,
- 41:04right? This team now looks even more,
- 41:08more total, right? More complete. It looks like a fucking football team.
- 41:12They look like a football team. So here's the thing, like, I, I said this
- 41:15out loud at the bar the other day while watching this game with a,
- 41:17with a small contingent of Raider fans that I would not meet up there.
- 41:20They just were there, they were cheering, and I migrated over to my little Raiders
- 41:23section. Yeah, we were all having so much fun,
- 41:26like, looking at each other and high-fiving and shit, going like We actually—
- 41:30I said this, I don't care if we lose this game, I just want my
- 41:34fucking team to compete. You were just having fun watching the Raiders for fucking quarters.
- 41:38Oh, they're doing cool shit and they're fucking playing and they're in it. And then
- 41:42they fucking won. Like, this team is different. It's a legitimate— it's the first
- 41:45time I've ever watched a Raider team going like, no, this is, this is something
- 41:48different. Now this might all come crashing down this weekend because they got the
- 41:52fucking Chiefs next, another— but I don't— I— after the Chiefs
- 41:55like showing a little bit of sputtering against Miami, you know, now granted the
- 41:59Chiefs could come back and put up 50 on anybody. And it's like we're not—
- 42:02but, you know, there was a little bit of struggle there.
- 42:05Mocha, will you bring up the, the undefeated
- 42:09teams, the stat that we have there? The NFL's
- 42:13undefeated teams remaining in 2026 after 3 weeks. This is
- 42:16by— the graph is pass yards and rush yards.
- 42:19So you can kind of see where people are at in terms of their production.
- 42:25It's about— it makes about sense that San Francisco, Kansas City,
- 42:28and Buffalo are sort of— they're winning with a lot more exciting
- 42:33numbers. But also there are the Las Vegas Raiders
- 42:37and the Minnesota Vikings, and certainly putting
- 42:40together a much better passing performance with the Vikings' former
- 42:44quarterback. I mean, at this point, the Vikings have got to be like, why didn't
- 42:47we just keep Kirk if we were going to go through all this? Right?
- 42:48God, you ain't lying, huh? But these are the 5 teams undefeated
- 42:52remaining. And yes, I did see the Superbad.
- 42:57I reposted this. It's so fucking good and it's accurate.
- 43:00Good. What the fuck are they doing here? They're very McLovin-esque.
- 43:04They are. Raiders are McLovin and that's okay. And that's a great— he was the
- 43:07star of the show. I am McLovin. He is the star of the show.
- 43:11Good. I'm just like, it's, it's really fun to watch
- 43:14and it's all the guys that are doing it. Like Ashton Gentry's coming to Williams.
- 43:18Looks good. The running game leaves a lot to be desired. I don't
- 43:22know. I think it's going to be all right. Listen. It's okay to temper your
- 43:25expectations a little bit. He's okay. I would like to see better from their run
- 43:28game. I think that, like— but, but here's my— here's the thing about
- 43:32buying into the Raiders. I don't trust
- 43:36Kirk Cousins in the playoffs. This feels— the
- 43:40Raiders feel like a classic Vikings team, and I'm so worried that this is going
- 43:44to be one of those situations where he's just not dynamic enough, uh,
- 43:48like down the stretch or into the playoffs. But like, I do actually think
- 43:52this is a team that could make the playoffs. I do actually believe that the,
- 43:55that the Raiders are in a space of— they
- 43:59kind of remind me of the Patriots in the first year with Drake Maye
- 44:03or like even in their first year with Mac Jones where it's like you don't
- 44:06expect them to win a playoff game, but like, why are they even fucking there?
- 44:09Yeah, you know what I mean? No, I'm with you on that. But here's— I
- 44:12hear what you're saying about Kirk Cousins because I do agree based on, based on
- 44:14the history of Kirk Cousins. There's no— I mean, Kirk Cousins is not going into
- 44:18it winning. He's not going to win you a Super Bowl. It's not going to
- 44:21happen. But this shit's awesome. But you just said a word. Good at developing other
- 44:24players. But you just hear the word you said. What'd I say? Fucking playoffs.
- 44:28Yeah. Yeah. Playoffs. I was hoping for 6 wins.
- 44:32You're telling me playoffs is actually on the fucking table? Of course it
- 44:36is. And dude, if I get that, thank you, Kirk Cousins. I will be forever
- 44:39grateful to you. That being said, nobody is Nobody is great and
- 44:43everybody's kind of bad. And that's awesome. You know what I mean? Like, as even
- 44:46those other teams, like those, like the Niners almost lost to the
- 44:50Cardinals, who I think are kind of not better
- 44:54than we all thought. Jacoby Brissett, by the way, is a good quarterback.
- 44:58He's, he's so good. He's a good fucking quarterback.
- 45:01He really, when he's given the opportunity and he kind of got what Kirk
- 45:05Cousins and the Raiders have gotten, which is a new offensive head coach that It's
- 45:08really helping them figure out— they have Trey McBride, sort of like the 2nd best
- 45:13tight end in the league at this point behind Brock Bowers. Great stuff. Backup quarterbacks,
- 45:17by the way. Case Keenum, fucking Marcus Mariota. What a game
- 45:20by Marcus Mariota. I love him.
- 45:24One of the most beloved. I don't know if you've heard a lot about him,
- 45:26but everybody loves Marcus. He's one of the nicest people to
- 45:31come back after the injury that he has suffered and to get
- 45:34this opportunity and to step up for that team. Not great for Jayden Daniels,
- 45:38by the way, because that made Jayden Daniels look bad.
- 45:41It made him look bad. Marcus Mariota had that offense
- 45:45looking like an entirely different offense, looking a lot
- 45:49more like, uh, you know, Dan Quinn looked when he was coaching Matt Ryan than
- 45:52anything else. Um, that's just a little side note.
- 45:56We could not get— we're not going to talk about that game, but like,
- 45:59yes, Marcus! Like, I'm so excited. I'm so excited for
- 46:03him. You know what, I, I am I am too. Um,
- 46:06it's funny because I do make this joke often, but I don't feel like I'm
- 46:10that far off. I don't trust any quarterback that comes out
- 46:14of Oregon at this point. Yeah, but I do root for a couple of them,
- 46:17and one of them is Marcus Mariota. Like, he started the like, let's draft dudes
- 46:21from Oregon thing, and it was like, no, the only one ever worth drafting was
- 46:24really just Marcus Mariota. But like, and then he— but he had a crazy injury,
- 46:28and it's like, just shit happens, right? But like, now, like, he— like, that game
- 46:32Dude, he looked really fun, and I was shitting on him starting this game,
- 46:35like, oh, good luck winning with Marcus Mariota. They won because of
- 46:38Marcus fucking Mariota. Doubt Marcus? Never doubt him. I did when he was a Raider,
- 46:43um, rightfully so. We're gonna, we're gonna quick hit on
- 46:46a couple more games before we move on. Um, the Rams-Broncos
- 46:50to me is one of those games where,
- 46:53like, I still feel like I understand what the Rams deal is much
- 46:56better than I understand the Broncos. I— the Rams lost 26,
- 47:00Broncos 30. It was a weird game. Very weird.
- 47:05The Rams melted down, but they melted down in a way that's familiar to me,
- 47:07which is Matt Stafford becoming a risk-taking maniac.
- 47:12Matthew Stafford has the most pick-sixes in the history of the NFL.
- 47:16Congratulations. Beating out Brett Favre. So I guess you're the gunslinger now.
- 47:20In fewer years, by the way. Impressive. And he's always
- 47:23been a pick-six monster. 6 monster there. Again, that's— he's
- 47:27got a major flaw, which is that like, he is— when those
- 47:31throws don't work, he's a very reckless thrower of the ball.
- 47:34And when they work, they're chef's kiss. And McVay has done a good job of
- 47:38giving him the amount of, uh, the types of wide receivers and offensive
- 47:42players that can handle to handle that, like Davante and Puka.
- 47:45But without Puka, it's starting to look a little— I was a little
- 47:49surprised how little he used Jake Ferguson this last week. Week. I'm not really.
- 47:53No, because he was really targeting him a lot the previous week. Yeah, but that's—
- 47:57it's a matchup thing. They— that like 12-13 personnel thing that Sean McVay does,
- 48:00he's not going to do it against the Broncos defense. It's a whole thing.
- 48:04Um, but the other thing about Denver is they win— they're very, very,
- 48:07very bizarrely, weirdly, almost inexplicably good at winning close
- 48:12one-score games where the offense is not particularly good. Bo Nix ain't that
- 48:15good. I don't think so either. The offense isn't that good. Play calling's
- 48:19not that good, but they score exactly when they need to
- 48:23to win games. And it is inexplicable. And so I do have to touch on—
- 48:28yes, but I mean, you could say that it wasn't the only reason. I can't
- 48:31stress enough the DPIs. You know, there was, there was that like awful call
- 48:35in the Cowboys game where it should have been OPI. And yes, that was really
- 48:38bad. There was this one that should not have been DPI. Again,
- 48:41that doesn't account for the fact that they had to score 2 touchdowns with 2
- 48:452-point conversions and they did both. Can't do shit all game. And then they're like,
- 48:48we are going to score 2 touchdowns with 2 2-point conversions. Like, we're going to
- 48:52convert both of them and we're like, what is your deal, dude? So Bo Nix
- 48:55is— is it— you got to give him credit. You can't keep the
- 48:59man down. He will suck. Like,
- 49:02he will have like under 100 yards of offense and then be like, I can
- 49:06still win it, guys. And then sometimes he does.
- 49:09Neither of these teams look like they could win a Super Bowl right now.
- 49:11And that's my takeaway. My takeaway right now is they both seem to have fatal
- 49:15flaws that I think will inevitably catch up to them in the playoffs. I think
- 49:18that's where I'm standing as of right now after 3 games. Yes, I agree.
- 49:21Patriots-Jags. They're bad. They're bad. The Patriots say
- 49:25they're bad. Oh, the Patriots are bad. They're all like, they're so bad. But like,
- 49:29that's not a fun thing. Like, don't make me say something boring just because you
- 49:33want to hear me. I just wanted to hear the— I just wanted to hear
- 49:35the phrase the Patriots are bad. That's all I wanted to hear. Now, I said
- 49:39it like 9 times. I know, but it makes me happy to hear it.
- 49:42So every once in a while I just want to hear you say it again.
- 49:43That's all. You guys are so fucking annoying. Everybody does
- 49:47this to me. I don't talk shit about your teams and then you make me
- 49:49say shit. Like, let me get through my fucking topic.
- 49:53Is the idea of benching Maye at this point does
- 49:56not make sense, but I do feel like it's coming. Like, I do feel like
- 50:00if Drake Maye is this bad, I don't know, what do you think,
- 50:04week 7? Dude, if he's this bad, what he's got,
- 50:07he's got 3 fumbles, he's got, uh, 6 interceptions, he's got 1
- 50:11touchdown. Oh, maybe I don't have the full thing. Yeah, he's got— but he did
- 50:14have— yeah, he had no touchdowns, 2 turnovers. Like, he's got so many turnovers.
- 50:17Oh, I'm talking about on the season. He's got 6, right? I'm just talking about
- 50:20this last game. He's got a— he's got at least 2 turnovers in every game.
- 50:23He's awful. He's been— he's been— it goes back to his performance in the playoffs
- 50:27too. So it's like, if he had been great in the playoffs, we'd be like,
- 50:29okay, whatever. This is looking rough. I don't— this is not a sustainable
- 50:34offense. This is an unsustainable situation. And losing one wide
- 50:38receiver, even if it is your best one, cannot cause you to melt down like
- 50:41this. Like, This is decision-making. This is an inability to use a very good
- 50:45athletic skill set. Like, this guy, the whole thing was that he was going to
- 50:49be able to make plays with his legs. He was going to be able to,
- 50:50like, you know, like improvise and do all the things that Mac Jones
- 50:54couldn't do. And he then he did it and it's not happening. He looks completely
- 50:58lost out there. I don't think you can
- 51:02play like this for more than a couple more games.
- 51:06I would agree. Without being benched. I would agree. And you know what's the other
- 51:09thing that I found really concerning was after the game, Mike Vrabel's press conference.
- 51:13He has no fucking idea what's going on. I like—
- 51:17he looks— he's got his defense playing decent, but like, but I've never seen Mike
- 51:21Vrabel like that even in the worst times. You want to hear my conspiracy theory?
- 51:23Let me hear it. My conspiracy theory is that, uh,
- 51:27because Drake May is a like weird little evangelical
- 51:31Christian— oh, you think he can't play for— you can't play for— I don't think
- 51:34he can play for, for for a, uh, cheater. Like, I genuinely—
- 51:38I'm genuinely wondering if he's like at home being like, Lord,
- 51:42like at home with his weird little cookie baking wife. Like,
- 51:46he's a— how am I— well, no, because she does
- 51:50like internet content, but she is like a weird little cookie baking wife. I don't
- 51:53know how to describe her otherwise. Okay. And, and May,
- 51:58um, but they got married really young, and I just think he's home praying about
- 52:01his, um, sinning head coach. Like, I, I've never seen anything like—
- 52:06like, they were like— it's the, the chemistry is not there. They don't— someone
- 52:09doesn't like someone, and it's not Mike Vrabel not liking his fucking franchise quarterback.
- 52:13Something's wrong in that relationship. Um, and so
- 52:17yeah, I do think we're— we are inching ever closer to Tommy DeVito time.
- 52:22Start Tommy DeVito in Boston. Let us— if we're going to win 3 games this
- 52:25year, let Tommy DeVito cook. Do you really want to see that with his
- 52:29agent back out there on the sidelines? Are you fucking kidding? Rocking Patriot gear.
- 52:32Yeah, do you know me? Of course. Okay, I didn't realize you
- 52:36liked the zoot suit guy. I love a tacky Italian-American. Oh, he is
- 52:40so tacky. He's like wearing like a feather in his fucking fedora.
- 52:44You to be— he's so stereotypical, it's outrageous. I want Jersey Shore
- 52:48level tacky Italian. That is what he is. Yeah,
- 52:51like I'm waiting for the guy to be like, yeah, I'm just over here at
- 52:54the shore. You don't understand how much Boston loves a
- 52:58tacky Italian Or like a hard-nosed Irish-American.
- 53:01Okay. Like, I know they love the hard-nosed Irish-American. That's— you
- 53:05know how much? So that's the whole thing is, is Boston is like half Italian-American,
- 53:08half Irish Catholic. Yeah. Oh, I just thought it was— I would, I would have
- 53:11thought it was like closer to 75% Irish Catholic. No, there's like a whole thing
- 53:15in Boston about it. You like— really? Yeah. It's like very similar to all— like,
- 53:19it's like New York and, and Chicago. So it's— oh, it's a lot more like
- 53:22Chicago. You know how there's a lot of Italian-Americans and Irish-Americans? In Chicago.
- 53:25It's a lot like that. Okay. Yeah. Anyways, Tommy DeVito.
- 53:30Tommy Cutlets time. I do want to quickly do MVP Watch.
- 53:33Will you bring up the NFL stats for MVP Watch, Mocha?
- 53:37Because I think we got to talk about Brock Purdy.
- 53:41It's not just when you watch the games, he's really doing a lot
- 53:45and they've dealt with injuries. And, you know, underneath him is obviously like
- 53:48Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes already have a bunch of MVPs. Joe Burrow,
- 53:53whatever. I— okay. EPA,
- 53:57like we're going off of EPA, but like Jared Goff has
- 54:01been much better than people have talked about. No one's touching Brock Purdy right
- 54:05now. Like in terms of if we're going to give it to a quarterback,
- 54:08which of course we're going to give it to a quarterback, God forbid we don't.
- 54:10Quarterback award right now, I'd give it to Brock Bowers probably based on one team,
- 54:14but on one game. But like, he's been really
- 54:17fucking good. Brock Purdy has been really good, and I
- 54:21am very much a Brock Purdy is the perfect quarterback
- 54:25for Kyle Shanahan's system person. Always have been. I always
- 54:28will be. Doesn't matter.
- 54:32He is the thing that is consistent about
- 54:35that offense more than anything, and that matters. And they
- 54:39are— and he is putting up beautiful numbers, and he's put— he's,
- 54:43he's doing stuff that's like— he's a really underrated athletic quarterback. He is.
- 54:47Um, you know what the thing about him is, and it's something you said earlier,
- 54:49and it's— and I apologize for the comparison, I'm not trying to compare anyone
- 54:53to Tom Brady, but it's that Tom Brady factor that he's just efficient, doesn't try
- 54:58to do the Josh Allen thing where he's like, okay, I'm gonna make us win.
- 55:01No, I'm gonna play in the system and I'm gonna fucking— yeah, move down the
- 55:04field because he's got a great system to play in. Um, I,
- 55:08I don't know, I really enjoy watching Brock Purdy play. He's fucking just good.
- 55:12And the 49ers Efficiency is a good word for them.
- 55:15They just— despite everyone dying, everyone on that team is dead,
- 55:19and they're still winning. I— they're so cursed. It is pretty fucking rough.
- 55:22They're not gonna ever win a title because they can't stay healthy. But Mike Evans
- 55:26now down. I also am not going to our headline too. I'm not doing
- 55:30it until I talk about the fact that Geno Smith is one of the best
- 55:33quarterbacks in the NFL. Like, right now he is playing at an insane level.
- 55:36He is 35 years old, he's been through the wringer, and he is fucking cooking.
- 55:40And regardless of what the Jets record looks like, that offense has looked awesome.
- 55:43And Geno Smith— they,
- 55:46they wrote me off, I ain't write back— yeah, is fucking cooking. And like,
- 55:50he deserves a lot of credit. He deserves a lot
- 55:53of— like, this is the most consistent he's been. He has been great in every
- 55:56single game. He's gotten better. This was his best game so far in
- 55:59this past week. Um, and I just— we— I'm not overlooking
- 56:03it because being a good quarterback on the Jets is fucking
- 56:07impossible. Yeah. You know, it's like trying to be like a great,
- 56:11a great waiter at a McDonald's. Like, it's just like they don't even need
- 56:15you. It's that you're useless at that point. Absolutely. But no, Geno is making it
- 56:18work. I'm happy for him. I'm always kind of rooting for Geno. I'm sorry it
- 56:21didn't work out in Vegas. He got hampered with a real shit situation.
- 56:25He's had so several. Like, it was just so fucked up, that situation
- 56:28last year. So I'm really happy for him.
- 56:32All right. That was football. We did an hour on football. Look at
- 56:35us go. Headline number 2. Yeah.
- 56:39Nick Saban is continuing to tour ESPN's daily
- 56:43shows to defend the Save College Sports Act. And I'm
- 56:48going to be honest, Stephen A. Smith, he actually did a decent job,
- 56:52did the best that he is capable of doing at offering an
- 56:56opportunity to play or offering a little bit of a pushback. A little bit.
- 56:59And I actually, I never give Stephen A. credit and I won't.
- 57:02Now, but I will almost give him credit for this because he did frame the
- 57:06question, in my opinion, quite respectfully and well.
- 57:09And then when he got the initial answer, he kind of did push back a
- 57:12little bit more to get him going into detail. And I don't think he intended
- 57:16this, but Nick Saban kind of spun himself into a fucking circle
- 57:19into the ground and, in my opinion, came away looking like a fucking
- 57:23idiot. Yeah, I think he— I think that Stephen A. Smith accidentally
- 57:26made him look stupid, but only by asking normal questions. And the questions
- 57:30he asked weren't all that crazy. It was like, He essentially was like, I am
- 57:33not stupid enough to not ask these questions. Like, that they're that basic that I
- 57:37even— I can't not. And just so we're clear, here was the question that he
- 57:39asked him. He said to him, what do you say to the people who
- 57:43think, okay, if we're gonna mitigate and put a cap on everything around the athletes,
- 57:48why don't we do this about the coaches? And then immediately Nick Saban went
- 57:52in a whole fucking weird-ass diatribe about how, well, those are just from
- 57:56different buckets, it's not the same thing. Uh, you know,
- 57:59what, what does a student bring— student athlete, you know, bring to a school
- 58:03compared to, say, like, uh, a professor? Of which the
- 58:07fuck are you talking about,
- 58:11motherfucker? You are in the same exact fucking bucket.
- 58:15You are fucking talking out of your ass. And then, to Stephen A.'s credit,
- 58:19said, well, you know, you are Nick Saban. That's a little different for
- 58:22you compared to another person. And then Nick Saban just dug himself
- 58:26a deeper grave. Not all these difficult of questions. You would think a
- 58:30guy that's trying to get something passed through Congress would actually be a little more
- 58:33well-spoken on the subject when he's actually remotely challenged
- 58:37with a borderline softball question. But he was not prepared even in the
- 58:41fucking slightest. Does make me laugh a little bit because he was like, Stephen A.
- 58:43Smith won't get— and Stephen was like, well, I am going to ask a normal
- 58:47question. I'm going to ask you a question a human is thinking.
- 58:50Repeatedly saying that they're two different markets, that the, that the
- 58:54coaching and the schools themselves are different markets
- 58:58than student athletes is a flat-out lie. He also appeared
- 59:03to defend it on Get Up today, too. He was defending— he's making the rounds.
- 59:07And he said, you know, I think things got out of control
- 59:11with NIL and I want players to make money. I want players to have their
- 59:13own NIL. There's not any business in the world that can function without a budget
- 59:17and some guidelines. If you ask an NFL owner, would you What would you do
- 59:20if all your players were free agents every year? Oh, we couldn't operate. What would
- 59:23you do if you didn't have a salary cap? Oh, we couldn't operate. Fuck you.
- 59:27These are not actually— that's a lie. First of all,
- 59:31there are caps on all of these things. There is.
- 59:34There are actually caps to this. There are rules in place. If you
- 59:38want to adjust them, that's fine. Yep. What,
- 59:42what essentially what he's doing is he's, he's creating an argument
- 59:46that doesn't exist and then arguing against that. It's like, oh, what, you want everybody
- 59:49to like Just you want it to be like free roaming. Imagine if this was
- 59:52the NFL. First of all, the NFL itself technically
- 59:58did sort of operate in the system that the—
- 1:00:02that college sports kind of wants to go to, which is like pre-salary cap.
- 1:00:05Yes, they— by the way, and just so we're all clear,
- 1:00:09like there are a lot of people that want to really turn this into the
- 1:00:12dark ages of college football like that happened today in
- 1:00:17Congress. You know what? Why don't we put up the screenshot of like exactly what
- 1:00:20they're looking to do that we have there? The just the sort of oversight.
- 1:00:24This is the very basic idea of what the Protect College Sports
- 1:00:29Act is trying to do, which it would give the NCAA the ability to enforce
- 1:00:33spending cap, which would prevent lawsuits and allow schools
- 1:00:36to pay $50 million to players, nearly doubling cap,
- 1:00:40limit athletes to one transfer without penalty, and establish a 5-year
- 1:00:44window of competition. Prevent FBS coaches from coaching
- 1:00:47at new school before end of team's/coach's prior
- 1:00:51team's season. So that's their big thing is they're like, we'll stop
- 1:00:55Lane Kiffin. Yeah. Is that enough? And it's like, no,
- 1:00:58that should have literally never happened. It's sort of like when, like, if you have
- 1:01:02like a boyfriend who's like, fine, I will stop cheating on you. And you're like,
- 1:01:05can you? You should not have started. That's the bar. That's not the like—
- 1:01:09yeah, that's like, let's everybody chill out. Yeah. Let's raise the bar,
- 1:01:12giving us something that should literally not exist in the first place. But what
- 1:01:17I want to talk about a little bit is this idea of preventing the
- 1:01:22tamp— like the— it's right here. What is it? It's right here.
- 1:01:25And here is a great quote from Rocket Cheddar. Okay. Every other sports league has
- 1:01:29a union and a CBA. That's exactly what they're praying Congress
- 1:01:34to protect them from. This is about protecting schools. From unions.
- 1:01:38Rocket Cheddar is— I— A+ is one of my regular Threads
- 1:01:42engagers. Well, you're phenomenal, Rocket. She's really good. Yeah. Him,
- 1:01:46her, I don't know. They, they always
- 1:01:49got he vibes, but it could be a she, could be a they. Either way,
- 1:01:53could be a— could be a lantern squirrel situation. Oh, I love
- 1:01:56a lantern squirrel. Remember, Mogo doesn't socialize. Exactly.
- 1:02:01I The— this whole antitrust exemption thing
- 1:02:05is getting to what he's talking about, which is that they, they want to
- 1:02:09actually be able to legally collude just like the NFL.
- 1:02:12Yep. Just like the NBA. Yep. Just like all of these leagues. They want to
- 1:02:15be able to legally collude against the players. And this time they will be
- 1:02:19colluding against a workforce with no fucking union,
- 1:02:23no guaranteed contracts, no everything. You're basically taking
- 1:02:27the worst portion of the end of the NFL and making it a
- 1:02:31million times worse and way more exploitative. Way more. This somehow
- 1:02:36starts to become more exploitative than the
- 1:02:39NCAA was before NIL. Like,
- 1:02:43oh my God. I don't think people really understand
- 1:02:47what it would— what the reality would be like if there was no
- 1:02:51cap on coaching salaries, no cap on athletic director salaries,
- 1:02:55no cap on how much boosters can give an athletic department. But a
- 1:02:58cap on the players. And now you have antitrust exemptions and
- 1:03:02sort of understandings with the legal system and no players
- 1:03:06union. That's— it's— that's a disaster. Big-time disaster.
- 1:03:09Absolute disaster. Extremely exploitative. And, um,
- 1:03:13by the way, can we go back on what Nick Saban also said? Yeah.
- 1:03:16Uh, what you actually kind of quoted about— yeah, I talked to people in the
- 1:03:19NFL. What would happen if these were all free agents? You didn't have a salary
- 1:03:22cap. Well, we can't afford it.
- 1:03:25What? You think the NFL, the fucking
- 1:03:29National Football League, couldn't afford free agents? Couldn't afford
- 1:03:33a non-salary cap league? Do you— you really said that out
- 1:03:37loud? You, you are the dumbest fuck in the world,
- 1:03:40or just the biggest liar in the world? Liar. I'm gonna vote
- 1:03:44liar. I'm gonna go with the latter, because you can't— you can't be this fucking
- 1:03:48stupid. And the fact that you think we're this stupid Just— I fucking
- 1:03:52hate you, Nick Saban. You're a fucking piece of shit. He's really been on
- 1:03:56a— like, it's not that I ever thought he was a good person, but he's
- 1:03:59been on a, like, an absolute legendary reputation-ruining tour in his retirement.
- 1:04:05So just, just wanted to be aware of that. We're going to touch on the
- 1:04:08MLB playoffs in headline number 3. Oh, what do we got? I just like
- 1:04:12this quote. How do you take only the bad parts from a pro league?
- 1:04:15Help me. Help me. Like, there's a lot of
- 1:04:18good things in the NFL. Now we're gonna leave those alone. Let's get
- 1:04:22the shitty parts for us. We're gonna— we're— but because all the bad
- 1:04:26parts— that's the thing is all the bad parts benefit the owners and the people
- 1:04:30in charge and everything. And by the way, what, what seat at the table do
- 1:04:34the players have in any semblance in this congressional— it's— that's the craziest part
- 1:04:37is like, this could not— this is the most obvious
- 1:04:42shit I watched the NFL openly collude against Colin
- 1:04:45Kaepernick, and it was less obvious than whatever
- 1:04:49the fuck this is like. Let's be so for real.
- 1:04:53But by the way, just to go back, congratulate Stephen A. Smith. You did something
- 1:04:56that I didn't hate for once. That's pretty cool. That's something. No. And it really—
- 1:05:00it is. Sometimes it's really funny because it's like it does almost
- 1:05:04expose just how braindead Nick Saban's arguments here
- 1:05:08are. That like even Stephen A. Smith is like, I've been hearing some things that
- 1:05:12don't quite make sense. Yeah, that was a softball, by the way. Like, and you,
- 1:05:15and you still fucking drove yourself into a grave. Well, it's not a softball though,
- 1:05:18because that's, that's the kind of the thing is like he, he can't
- 1:05:23defend this act without talking himself into a corner because there's no way to do
- 1:05:26it. Fair. So that was the interesting part about Stephen A. choosing to
- 1:05:30ask the question because there's no way to answer it well on the— that it
- 1:05:33doesn't make you look stupid. Cody, um, we are officially into the MLB playoffs.
- 1:05:36Yes, baby. And you are our resident
- 1:05:40MLB expert. Why, thank you. I did play in the major leagues. You don't know
- 1:05:42that because I always forget that you played in the MLB. No, it happened.
- 1:05:46I do think it's really cool that you did that. And so I'd like
- 1:05:50to talk about baseball with you. We have— we
- 1:05:54had a little pre-show discussion, kind of what teams
- 1:05:57you have your eye on. And I feel like the team you are most
- 1:06:02eyeing in terms of like could upset some things, maybe you're hoping that
- 1:06:06they could. But the one that you seem most excited about, for reasons that
- 1:06:10are pretty fair that we're going to show you, is the White Sox,
- 1:06:14because they could potentially be the Pope's team of destiny. I don't know what to
- 1:06:18say other than the White Sox are the best story in baseball. Yeah, this is
- 1:06:21a team that lost 100 games like 3 years in a row. Just one of
- 1:06:25the most epically horrible runs in baseball history.
- 1:06:28No, this is— this is the dream. They're in the
- 1:06:32playoffs. They already had a great first game in Houston. One,
- 1:06:35uh, I can't stress this enough, the record in Major League Baseball
- 1:06:39thus far since this new wildcard round has been invented, the team that wins
- 1:06:42the first game has won, has gone, uh, 15-1 so far.
- 1:06:46And so like, it's basically in the stars for them to
- 1:06:50move on to the next round, which is astonishing, which they'll play their in-division rival,
- 1:06:53the Guardians. That'll be a very tough series if they get there,
- 1:06:57but it's not out of the realm that they win that series. The Guardians have
- 1:07:01also been known to blow it. Yes. So like, it's not out of the realm
- 1:07:04that the White Sox can get it. There is a— the White Sox could end
- 1:07:08up in the fucking ALCS. They lost 100
- 1:07:11fucking games last year. Like, that is— no, that's really fucking so cool to me.
- 1:07:15See, if you were me, you would have already been on Baseball
- 1:07:20Reference looking up if that's ever happened. Now, now, the Pope of it all.
- 1:07:24You add that in there. In fact, okay, we got to talk about the Pope.
- 1:07:26Let's talk about the Pope. Now, first things first, I want to point out the
- 1:07:29Chicago Pope. Pope, the Chicago Pope, uh, who is a diehard White Sox fan.
- 1:07:32Very, very well known at this point, even though the Cubs tried to claim him.
- 1:07:35But doesn't matter. Congratulations, Cubs. They're playing their game tonight. How did they try to
- 1:07:39claim him when he was at White Sox? They even put
- 1:07:43it on the board, uh, at Wrigley saying he's a Cubs fan.
- 1:07:46And like— and no, he wasn't. He's a White Sox fan. That would have— that
- 1:07:49would have actually made me feel really nervous. You can't fuck with the Pope.
- 1:07:52Yeah, you can't do that. That being said, everything's going great in Chicago right now.
- 1:07:55Cubs are in the playoffs, White Sox in the playoffs, and fucking Chicago Bears
- 1:07:59are fucking rolling. It's a wild time in Chicago sports. Pretty sweet.
- 1:08:01Yeah, that being said, I would love to first
- 1:08:05put this graphic up of the Pope because he sent the White Sox and Mr.
- 1:08:08Jerry Reinsdorf a lovely letter getting them ready
- 1:08:12for the playoffs. That arrived apparently this morning to the White
- 1:08:15Sox, and the Pope was on a plane yesterday. We have a video of it,
- 1:08:19and he was asked a very, very important question, of which I
- 1:08:22got some extra questions, but Here is the Pope being asked if he had anything
- 1:08:25to do with this divine intervention. Holy Father, I'm sure you're
- 1:08:29pretty aware that last night the Chicago White Sox made the playoffs.
- 1:08:332 years ago, they just had the worst record in baseball's
- 1:08:37history. Sometimes call it a miracle. Do you have anything to do with that?
- 1:08:41No comment. That's my fucking Pope
- 1:08:45right there. He didn't. He didn't. No comment is— I'm
- 1:08:49taking it as an affirmative. It's a yes. Yes, I love it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:52Imagine if the White Sox won the World Series and then the Chicago Bears won
- 1:08:54the— like, it would be undeniable, and I probably would believe in God.
- 1:08:59I'm not gonna— that might make me believe in God, and I don't even like
- 1:09:02Chicago, but I would— I would be convinced at that point. I mean, fucking so
- 1:09:06cool. I'm, I'm really excited for the White Sox. I think they're the best story.
- 1:09:09Uh, I think the Red Sox and Yankees, uh, matchup is interesting because a few
- 1:09:12people got activated. Don't even talk to me about it right
- 1:09:16now. We're losing 1-0 right now in the bottom of the third. Just breathe.
- 1:09:17Just breathe. Just breathe. And then, of course, tonight, the Cubs and the
- 1:09:21Padres. The other team on the National League side that I think is going to
- 1:09:24be— could make an interesting run is the Padres. In my eyes, I really think
- 1:09:28they're in a bracket that is tough but winnable. And then if
- 1:09:31they— what I think is going to be and what I want to see,
- 1:09:34to be honest with you, I want to see an NLCS between the Dodgers and
- 1:09:37the Padres. I'm bored. I'm bored of Dodgers-Padres. Like, I don't—
- 1:09:41we haven't seen it with that much stakes in there. I want to see it.
- 1:09:43Yeah, because both these teams have knocked each other out over the last couple of
- 1:09:47years. They— when did the Padres knock them out? In 2023,
- 1:09:54or was it '22? The year before they went on the World Series runs,
- 1:09:57Padres knocked them out, and then the Dodgers knocked them out when
- 1:10:01they went to them. So it was '20— it was the year before that.
- 1:10:02Okay. Uh, and that was the Padres knocked them out, and I
- 1:10:06would like to see it. It is a rivalry that I think is real.
- 1:10:09I think a lot of Dodger fans very much undersell it because they always look
- 1:10:12at the Padres like they're their little brother. I, I would like to see it.
- 1:10:15That being said, maybe the Brewers do kind of finally not brew
- 1:10:18it up for one time. But I've watched the last 50 years. Um,
- 1:10:22I don't know, man. It's— I'm excited for these playoffs. On paper, I still think
- 1:10:26the Dodgers are gonna win. Whatever team is most likely to beat the Dodgers,
- 1:10:28quite honestly, I need the Dodgers to lose so that the players have more leverage
- 1:10:31going into the negotiation. You are not wrong about that. If the Dodgers do
- 1:10:35get knocked out, especially if they don't make it to the World Series— yeah,
- 1:10:37that's what I mean— that would be pretty big. Yeah. So real quick,
- 1:10:42seeding issues. You know, this is— we talk about this in the NFL all the
- 1:10:45time with the NFC North getting in. Yeah, there's no reason. The Diamondbacks,
- 1:10:50you know, my other team, my other team, my household team got
- 1:10:54screwed. 9th best record in baseball, didn't make the playoffs.
- 1:10:58And the, you know, had a much better record than the Astros who won their
- 1:11:01division and are now hosting a series. That's— we,
- 1:11:06we don't love that, right? Don't love it. We don't love that. I never would
- 1:11:09have loved it. And I think that people wanted to— like, yes, the Diamondbacks kind
- 1:11:13of screwed themselves, but they are very much a momentum team. Like, you get them
- 1:11:15into the playoffs, you never know what happens type, type team. So I was excited
- 1:11:18to see them potentially make it. But more than— more importantly, I do think that
- 1:11:23like what you do in the regular season should matter,
- 1:11:26like winning the games that you're supposed to win. And so,
- 1:11:30uh, I think that they should adjust this on in both the MLB and the
- 1:11:33NFL. I think I think we've hit— I used to defend it, but I actually
- 1:11:36think we've hit a point. I used to defend it. I cannot watch a,
- 1:11:39like, a 9-8 Bucs team host a 14-3 Vikings team ever again
- 1:11:43in my life. And I feel the same way about the MLB. So I watched
- 1:11:46a really interesting take that I've heard and thought of myself many times. I think
- 1:11:49I've said it once or twice, but I never really doubled down and made like
- 1:11:51a video about it. There's an ex-pitcher named Trevor May who I really was always
- 1:11:55a big fan of, both on the field. No relation to Drake? No, no,
- 1:11:58no relation to Drake. But he went on a whole thing. He made a video.
- 1:12:00I even reposted it because I agree with every syllable of it. His suggestion is
- 1:12:03we need to get rid of the the league system that we currently have because
- 1:12:06it doesn't make sense anymore. No AL/NL is what you're saying. And he's, he's right.
- 1:12:09Well, without the like difference in the DH, there's no difference. Yeah, there's no difference
- 1:12:12in the rules. There's no difference in anything. Everybody plays each other equal amount.
- 1:12:16I, I'm actually starting to think, and they have talked about maybe when,
- 1:12:20uh, the A's moved to Vegas and Major League Baseball expands another
- 1:12:242 teams, there's a chance that we're going to end up just kind of redoing
- 1:12:28the whole structure, like the Dodgers, Angels, and Padres And D-backs
- 1:12:32would be like in a division together. I've always thought of regional divisions.
- 1:12:36Well, I mean, the— it's funny because
- 1:12:39the AL East actually isn't that— theirs is a little more— it's kind of like,
- 1:12:42I guess you would maybe move the— you move— oh, I know what people
- 1:12:46always say. They want the Phillies in the AL East. Okay.
- 1:12:49That's what they always say. It's really the Rays out and you put the Phillies
- 1:12:52in, which is sick. Yeah, I would actually fucking love that. Yeah,
- 1:12:56it is. But it would put the Yankees and the Mets in the same division.
- 1:12:58It would like— it would be a lot of cool shit. You don't like that?
- 1:13:01I love it. I love that. I was, I was being serious. The other option,
- 1:13:05and I don't hate this either, and I don't think he said this, this is
- 1:13:08me thinking out loud right now, just do East and West NBA style.
- 1:13:13Sure. The end. It's so easy. Even then, just 1 through 9 on both
- 1:13:16sides and call it a day. Oh, in terms of— oh, in terms of the,
- 1:13:19um, seating? Yes. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah, almost exactly do it like the NBA.
- 1:13:22And then the Diamondbacks make it in that world. And then the Diamondbacks
- 1:13:26make it in that world, and we don't have to deal with fucking Houston Astros
- 1:13:28with a below .500 record in the fucking playoffs. Watch them make
- 1:13:32the cut with a home field advantage, mind you. Watch them make the World Series
- 1:13:35and then we don't fucking say that they're playing the White Sox.
- 1:13:39In Media Corner, we have a couple of really short stories that I just
- 1:13:43want to kind of touch on really quickly. We've talked a
- 1:13:47lot about how ESPN is killing the middle class of sports media by essentially like
- 1:13:50revolving their entire network around like very
- 1:13:54few highly paid talking heads who they
- 1:13:57use everywhere. And they have gotten rid of the experts
- 1:14:01and the people that we relied on to have the smaller, more intricate conversations,
- 1:14:05the niche conversations, the people we relied on to have the interesting conversations that we
- 1:14:08wanted to hear people have. And it's been
- 1:14:12really interesting as an independent show ourselves
- 1:14:16to watch that the Pivot has successfully,
- 1:14:21in their early stages, become a show that is giving
- 1:14:24us exactly what we've been missing from ESPN. Now they focus
- 1:14:28very much on the NFL. I, you know, I have not watched enough of
- 1:14:32the pivot to know how they'll transition into other sports and everything else.
- 1:14:36But this is— as much as we've seen the, uh, in the
- 1:14:40investment of Netflix in buying the show and,
- 1:14:44um, the investment of Howard Schultz from Starbucks into the show and
- 1:14:48injecting cash flow, that's still a much more middle-class,
- 1:14:52uh, operation than something like ESPN. ESPN, owned by Disney.
- 1:14:57I, you know, this is a, a new model
- 1:15:01that kind of started, I think,
- 1:15:05with Bill Simmons. I think you're right. It's funny, it's the first
- 1:15:09thing I thought of as well when he left. He, you know, he left behind
- 1:15:13Grantland, goes and starts The Ringer, and says like, I have
- 1:15:17enough credibility at this point
- 1:15:22having already had, you know, all started the podcast thing and all that, that I
- 1:15:25am going to start my own network. And then I'm going to get— I'm
- 1:15:28going to have my brand and my IP bought,
- 1:15:33you know, I'm going to have that invested in, right? Like rather than the other
- 1:15:36way around, rather than like hire me and I'll do stuff for you. No,
- 1:15:39it's you're going— I'm going to, I'm going to make distribution deals
- 1:15:43essentially with other platforms. So he, uh, signed a distribution deal with HBO,
- 1:15:48signs a distribution deal with Spotify, eventually sells
- 1:15:52and like still runs the company. All these things, right?
- 1:15:56This seems to be the way that,
- 1:15:59uh, independent people who've worked in establishment
- 1:16:03sports media— that is a big part of it. You do have to have created
- 1:16:07in some way, shape, or form a name for yourself in establishment sports media.
- 1:16:09No other way to do it, unfortunately, which is Maybe, and maybe that will change,
- 1:16:13right? Maybe that will change as we move forward. But that's
- 1:16:17kind of is to say like, okay, now I create my own brand and,
- 1:16:20and I make, and I make these platforms come
- 1:16:23to me and they, and they become the distributors of something already. Now Pat McAfee
- 1:16:28did the same thing with ESPN. That's how he fucking got in on ESPN was
- 1:16:31saying my podcast is so popular.
- 1:16:35They brought him in and then they, they saw the opportunities there. Now he's become
- 1:16:38establishment media, different thing. How do you—
- 1:16:42have you been noticing online at all? Have you been seeing
- 1:16:45the clips? Have you been seeing what The Pivot has been doing? Only a couple.
- 1:16:49Okay. But it's in the chat right here that The Pivot is fun to watch
- 1:16:52as well as highly knowledgeable. So it seems like some people are actually enjoying it.
- 1:16:56So it's really interesting because the one thing I noticed
- 1:17:00was that they were the only show after the Ravens-Cowboys
- 1:17:05game to talk about what the Ravens had done at the
- 1:17:08end of the game, both defensively and offensively, to set themselves up for a 6-
- 1:17:12us rather than just talk about the Cowboys collapsing, how bad they were, how stupid
- 1:17:16they were, how bad it was. Talking head annoying bullshit, right? I don't think Colin
- 1:17:20Cowherd— I watched the first 10 minutes of his show to see what his A-block
- 1:17:24was for that, for that game. I don't think he said Lamar Jackson's name.
- 1:17:29Like, I don't think he said his name. Well, he's, you know, not the most
- 1:17:32important player on the team. Stephen A. Smith was obviously going to lead. I didn't
- 1:17:35expect that. Like, his shtick is hating the Cowboys, so like Okay,
- 1:17:40um, get up. Like, this was all about did the Cowboys collapse
- 1:17:44and acted like, like, like, that's not even football analysis. Like, we didn't,
- 1:17:48we didn't look. And what Ryan Clark did was he said like,
- 1:17:51everything you're craving, I'm gonna give it to you. I'm gonna be animated, dynamic.
- 1:17:54I'm gonna give it to you on a beautiful set. I'm gonna show you all
- 1:17:56the film. It's really giving me a tiny sliver
- 1:17:59of hope. It really is. I don't know how successful
- 1:18:04it's gonna be on Netflix. I don't know where it's going to land, but I
- 1:18:06like that it's something. It's something in the direction of what we love
- 1:18:10and why we love doing what we do.
- 1:18:13Because you're right. Like, I think I even saw a funny
- 1:18:16video from Ron Funches today. He's saying, I've been hired as the new CEO
- 1:18:20of ESPN. And here— and he does this whole bit. He's like, you guys like
- 1:18:24good sports analysis? Not here anymore. Do you guys like getting drunk with your
- 1:18:28frat boy friends? Hey, come to ESPN because that's all it is.
- 1:18:32And that's That's the thing is like, I still want to learn. Yeah,
- 1:18:35like I am not one of those people who's like, I know everything,
- 1:18:38nobody can tell me anything, whatever. Now nobody in my Threads comments
- 1:18:43is going to teach me about football. I love you guys if you— but like,
- 1:18:47I'm— I want to learn from the people I've always learned from.
- 1:18:50And, and that like, I am obviously being a little facetious. I have absolutely learned
- 1:18:54things from my Threads commenters, from my whatever, people who DM me and
- 1:18:58say like, oh hey, I knew this person and Like, whatever. And that, like,
- 1:19:01of course I'm being facetious, but realistically, like,
- 1:19:04I learned stuff. I learned about the,
- 1:19:08the approach that the Ravens defense took at the end of that game that I
- 1:19:11would not have learned on ESPN or Fox Sports anywhere. No one was fucking
- 1:19:15talking about it. No one was breaking down football in any way. I'm not saying
- 1:19:18that First Take or Colin Cowherd or whatever should be breaking down film
- 1:19:22all the time or whatever, but like, in some way, shape, or form These shows
- 1:19:25used to be like, hey, we're gonna bring in— I'm gonna bring in a Hasselbeck
- 1:19:30brother to tell us what happened. Like something, right? Give me some actual analysis
- 1:19:35that isn't, did the Cowboys fucking blow it? It's just— and I love that.
- 1:19:38And I loved when I used to work on these shows and I would sit
- 1:19:41with these players and the people that they were bringing in and these other
- 1:19:45analysts, and they would break the game down and show it to me and talk
- 1:19:49to me about it. And I would ask questions and we would research things.
- 1:19:53And I would learn. And I really like— I
- 1:19:57can't— it's getting to the point where I don't even blame people for not understanding
- 1:20:01what's going on. I don't blame you. And it
- 1:20:04is really like a dumbing down of the whole thing that really bugs me.
- 1:20:07Like, I'll give you another sort of like the whole country, right? Yeah, very much
- 1:20:10so. It's idiocracy of sports now, and we don't need more idiocracy. There's plenty of
- 1:20:14it. It's another thing. Like, remember a couple of months ago when, when Ryan Clark
- 1:20:17got in trouble for, quote unquote, talking down to what's his name?
- 1:20:21Talking down to who? Who was the guy who came from NFL Network? Who,
- 1:20:25uh, Kyle Brandt? No, the other one. Pete Schrager. Oh yeah, I do remember.
- 1:20:29I remember. And like, everyone's like, how dare you talk down to Pete Schrager?
- 1:20:32Motherfucker, Pete Schrager's knowledge of football is here and Ryan
- 1:20:36Clark's is up here. Like, is this a fucking joke? And it's not even just
- 1:20:39because Ryan Clark played. Yeah, that's the thing that pisses me off is like,
- 1:20:43Ryan Clark's good at talking about football not just because he played, because he
- 1:20:46has worked his ass off to be a— like, he— like,
- 1:20:50communication, like, studying. I agree. Studying journalism. I agree. He is
- 1:20:53everything Ocho thinks he is. Exactly. And he's— and he—
- 1:20:57so he's worked his ass off to become a great communicator, a great sort of,
- 1:21:00uh, media, like,
- 1:21:03personality. And the ability to present the knowledge
- 1:21:07you have is not the same as just being a former player. You're a
- 1:21:11former baseball player. You're good at talking about sports because you've worked your ass off
- 1:21:14to be good at it, not because you've played baseball. There's most
- 1:21:19people who played baseball are bad at talking about how— very much so,
- 1:21:22very much so, right? But like, to me,
- 1:21:26the, the thing that makes somebody really interesting is
- 1:21:29when they're like, I played this and then I studied how to talk about how
- 1:21:31I played this. That is the best. Those are the
- 1:21:35best analysts that we have, are people who always felt like they wanted to be
- 1:21:39in the media. So I'll give you another example. You mentioned the other name,
- 1:21:41the Kyle Brant of it all. Like, I have no— like, listen, I have nothing
- 1:21:44against Kyle Brant. I'm sure he's a perfectly nice guy. He's not. He's actually a
- 1:21:48really— he's not a perfect— well, then he can go fuck himself. I have no
- 1:21:50idea how Kyle Brandt's on fucking TV talking about football. I really don't. Like,
- 1:21:54literally. And I, I don't really fucking know. I don't mind saying this. I have
- 1:21:58heard nothing but horror stories about how he treats people. Really?
- 1:22:01Oh, horror stories. Well, I'll tell you this. Like, I understand right now they're having
- 1:22:04this whole thing where he's coming in and giving speeches and they're like trying to
- 1:22:07get that to go. What the fuck is this doing on TV when I'm trying
- 1:22:11to get like sports analysis? This. Like, what the fuck is the real world guy
- 1:22:14doing here? Like, your qualifications in what he was doing in, in fucking
- 1:22:182003— fucking qualifications were that you were on a reality TV show.
- 1:22:21I fucking can't— by the way, then you were Jim Rome's sidekick.
- 1:22:25Like, that's— that was what you were doing. I just can't fucking fathom this.
- 1:22:29I truly— it makes no sense to me. And here's the truth.
- 1:22:33Hey, just, just so we're clear, by the way, yeah, we're talking— while I'm talking
- 1:22:36shit about Kyle Brandt When Kyle Brandt was out and
- 1:22:39Jim Rome needed help with his show, because Jim Rome uses writers just
- 1:22:44like anybody else or whatever, I started writing, ghostwriting for Jim Rome. I would write
- 1:22:48stuff for him, like freelance, and he would like, you know, he'd tell me what
- 1:22:52he wanted to talk about. I'd write him like literal, you know, stuff for him
- 1:22:55to say on air, funny stuff, like little bits, little rants, whatever.
- 1:23:01Not gonna lie, I was I'm not going to
- 1:23:05say exactly what Jim Rome said, but yeah,
- 1:23:08he, he didn't exactly miss Kyle Brandt at that point. I can, I can definitely
- 1:23:12imagine that. I just don't— I just don't think about Kyle. He said he liked
- 1:23:15him, but I was fucking better. Yeah, I believe— fucking— I can't, I can't fathom
- 1:23:18it any other way. I truly don't understand
- 1:23:22what sports media fucking is, even wants to be anymore.
- 1:23:26Like, that's what ESPN is. And listen, I know, like I've said this over The
- 1:23:30truth is, I officially don't watch any of these shows. And I did used to
- 1:23:34watch Get Up. I used to like watching Get Up. I don't anymore. I don't
- 1:23:37like watching any of it anymore. The only, you know, the only—
- 1:23:41PTI. No, I like PTI. And you know what else I like? Because they do
- 1:23:46the talking head. We're not going to break down film, but we are going to
- 1:23:48bro out a little bit and enjoy it. Talk to me first. First things
- 1:23:52first. Oh, yeah. But I'm not— I've never really loved that show either, to be
- 1:23:56honest. No, what I'm saying— but I get it. But like what they do is
- 1:23:58like a very specific likable thing, and they like
- 1:24:02football. Brew gets on and he does his little shtick about like,
- 1:24:06I didn't like it, I loved it. And they go through the thing and they
- 1:24:10do like— he— they brought out a thing today about how he does this Ravens
- 1:24:12bit every week now, like when the Ravens win, how he pretends he's like not
- 1:24:16impressed and then says he loved— he, he didn't like it, he loved it.
- 1:24:20And so they bring out a box and on the front of it is written
- 1:24:23box of— for Brew's bit or whatever, like, and it's like his shit for
- 1:24:26his for the bit he's about to do. So they lean into the unseriousness
- 1:24:31of it. They don't try to pretend they're being serious about it.
- 1:24:34They're having fun watching football. I'll give them credit for that. That's great.
- 1:24:38And that's a show that should exist, but it needs to
- 1:24:42exist alongside something that's actually breaking— like, you need to watch the real football
- 1:24:46show and then you watch the First Take, the First Things First show where they
- 1:24:49do like the fun bits and they argue and they have all their favorite teams
- 1:24:52and they do their bits. I think there's space for all of it, but it
- 1:24:56can't be— it can't be people earnestly
- 1:25:01doing bits. The bit—
- 1:25:05that's why I like First Things First. The bit is obvious. They call it a
- 1:25:08bit. They do stupid shit so that the audience understands they're,
- 1:25:12they're playing into the fandom and they're having fun with it and they're enjoying it
- 1:25:16and they're honestly leaning into their fandom.
- 1:25:19What Dan Orlovsky does and what a lot of these people have started to do
- 1:25:23is to disingenuously sell
- 1:25:27a bit as real fact.
- 1:25:30That Justin Herbert as a top 5, 6, 7 quarterback is a
- 1:25:35fucking bit. Like,
- 1:25:38that's not analysis. And that's what I hate. I agree with that.
- 1:25:42Wholeheartedly agree with that. And Listen, I'm really
- 1:25:45excited for what— listen, I don't, I don't watch The Pivot. I've seen clips and
- 1:25:49I think it's pretty impressive what they're doing. I'm hopeful. It actually gives me hope
- 1:25:52for the future of this, of this entire medium and this entire kind
- 1:25:56of sphere, because there are locations that could
- 1:26:01adopt things like a Regulars, like a Pivot, like all these things.
- 1:26:05It's just we haven't seen it happen yet. We haven't seen this full
- 1:26:09go into sports. It's just still more of the shit. If it makes you feel
- 1:26:11any better, the backlash to how bad these these networks are getting is, is louder
- 1:26:15than it's ever been. Um, before we close out the show,
- 1:26:19um, I do want to say that we have to let athletes
- 1:26:23who played their entire career for an organization say we
- 1:26:27on national television. We have to stop being pissy about it.
- 1:26:30People, people, Bears fans were mad that Jason Kelce was saying we about
- 1:26:34the Eagles, and he was like, stop it, because— and I guess SVP or somebody
- 1:26:38called him out. I won't even read the headline, but I think it's funny,
- 1:26:40but Like, guys, why?
- 1:26:44Jason Kelce is still going to give you as best as he possibly can,
- 1:26:47like, unbiased takes about the game. You're always going to give it
- 1:26:51a little bit of bias because you already do. He's a lifelong Philadelphia
- 1:26:55Eagle. Leave Jason Kelce alone. He's gonna say we.
- 1:26:59I'll give you an example. Like, today I had, uh, Mark Schlereth on the team,
- 1:27:02lifelong, uh, Broncos player. I,
- 1:27:05I had to ask him about my Raiders, and he very begrudgingly had
- 1:27:09to say nice things about the Raiders. And I thought it was funny because he
- 1:27:13doesn't want to say nice things about him. Do you want like robots on
- 1:27:16to like— how weird would it be? I have always thought
- 1:27:20this, and I wanted to get your opinion. Maybe you feel differently. I've always thought
- 1:27:23it would be so much weirder to pretend you don't have an allegiance. Like when
- 1:27:27Tom Brady pretended to not— like when he was
- 1:27:31like, I don't— I'm not gonna root for the Patriots, I don't care. Like that,
- 1:27:34people were like That's so fucking weird to say you're not gonna root for
- 1:27:38the Patriots in the, in the Super Bowl. Like, he got shit for that,
- 1:27:40right? So I feel like it's weirder to pretend you don't have
- 1:27:45a relationship to the team you played your whole career for— completely
- 1:27:49agree— than it is to be like, we— I'll give you
- 1:27:52examples. That motherfucker went to Super Bowls with Jalen Hurts.
- 1:27:56Yes, like, that's his friend. You put him on TV. Like, I don't know what
- 1:27:59to tell you. Like, like, guys, Take it, someone from as low level of a
- 1:28:02baseball player that I was, I have allegiances to a
- 1:28:06couple of teams I played for. I still root for the Padres. I, I have
- 1:28:09a lot of love for the Padres. I absolutely root for the Diamondbacks. It was
- 1:28:13the best fucking organization I ever played for. Like, I root for the Red Sox.
- 1:28:16You really do. Like, you do. Like, you were texting me snakes alive.
- 1:28:19You were getting— I was fired up. I want to see them succeed because they
- 1:28:23were, they were legitimately the best organization I played for. Turns out the only team
- 1:28:27alive is alive. Socks alive. Both socks. Chicago Pope. But like, I,
- 1:28:31I don't know. I don't know how the chat feels, but like, T, I— listen,
- 1:28:35if you're saying we and you played 2 seasons for them, like in your last
- 1:28:392 years of your career, like, okay, I get that that could be annoying.
- 1:28:42But like, fucking Jason Kelce, are you
- 1:28:45kidding? So you think that Travis Kelce should get on air after he retires
- 1:28:49and not say we about the Chiefs? Yeah, it's gonna happen
- 1:28:52a lot. Like, come on, guys. Like That's crazy talk.
- 1:28:56Like, that's not— we don't need to do it. Now, if you're calling games,
- 1:29:00if you're in the broadcast booth, you can't say we. I understand that. I get
- 1:29:03that. But if you're doing a postgame, call the Cowboys we. No, I get that.
- 1:29:06That's different. But Jason Kelce is not doing that. Exactly. He's just on the,
- 1:29:09on the booth and on the panel. And also he does like a bunch of
- 1:29:13other, like, you know, like he's, he's a, he's a personality hire.
- 1:29:17He's a personality hire. Yeah. And a good one too. Like how you are on
- 1:29:20the show. That's hurtful. That's good. Oh, that's good.
- 1:29:24Everybody, you're the personality here. You're everybody's favorite. I'm just here for the personality.
- 1:29:27I'm the one, I'm the one who's yelling at people all the time. Yeah,
- 1:29:30but you say that, but when we go places, everybody fucking— yeah,
- 1:29:33yeah, but that's in real life. On the show, welcome to the Rose Bowl!
- 1:29:38What can I fucking do for you? What can I fucking do for you?
- 1:29:41Fuck. Mocha, we were gonna get to Pop Culture Corner, but we talked too much
- 1:29:45about football. Are you sad?
- 1:29:48I'm okay. He goes, no, I'm okay,
- 1:29:52I'm hungry. Oh my God. Well, we have to get out of here so Mo
- 1:29:55can get his food. No, it actually is like— it's like Franklin.
- 1:29:59Like, it's like your dogs who get like mad if you can't feed them before
- 1:30:02the end of the show. It's Mocha. It's true. So yeah, um, energy to get
- 1:30:05to my points anyway. No, that's fair. So there you go. So you're relieved.
- 1:30:09So I guess we'll save this Pop Culture Corner for Friday's show and Get
- 1:30:13ready, fuel up for Friday, guy. Yeah, goddamn,
- 1:30:16your moment's coming. Yeah, make sure you know. Yeah,
- 1:30:20you gotta— we gotta like order you food here or something if you're gonna come
- 1:30:23starving. Damn, we can't be having, having you starving over there.
- 1:30:29The Red Sox are— wait, did we check the score? I have not checked the
- 1:30:32score. We're gonna go check the score in a second. I'm gonna check it right
- 1:30:35now. Uh, it's still 1-nothing. Okay, 1-nothing. At the
- 1:30:39top of the 5th. Oh no.
- 1:30:42Okay, well, listen, here's the thing. Boston, one more look.
- 1:30:46One more look. Even though she's a Baltimore girl. Even though I'm a huge Baltimore—
- 1:30:51everybody knows it. Everybody knows. Just factual. I did have the time of my
- 1:30:55life in Baltimore though when I went. I really did. I fucking loved it.
- 1:30:58So the one time I did feel like I was at home. No,
- 1:31:02Baltimore. Baltimore is my favorite song by fucking Anyway,
- 1:31:06by Randy Newman. Oh, Randy Newman has a song named Baltimore?
- 1:31:10Yeah, it's a great song. Really? Oh yeah, I'll play for you after we're off
- 1:31:13the show so we don't get flagged. Okay, well, obviously, yeah, we can't be getting
- 1:31:16the Randy Newman flag. If I'm gonna get flagged for anyone, it's gonna be Randy
- 1:31:20Newman. It's gonna be— make no fucking mistake, I love me some Randy Newman.
- 1:31:22Yeah. Oh man. Well, Tanya, tell the people where they can find us. They can
- 1:31:26find us on, uh, @theregulars on Instagram.
- 1:31:30On TikTok. Oh, by the way, I post our stuff on TikTok too. You got

- 1:32:13Yeah, I did not put it everywhere else because that's fine. I did not like
- 1:32:16their terms. Good to know. Apple, Spotify, check us out
- 1:32:20there at The Regulars Pod. I did not like the iHeartMedia terms. And yeah,
- 1:32:22that's it. We are— we're not going to talk about the bloody sock today because
- 1:32:26this now is not the time. The Red Sox are in the playoffs. Okay.
- 1:32:30But that doesn't mean that we're not going to— we're not going to say it
- 1:32:32forever and always. Oh, fuck her. Chill.
- 1:32:35Fuck her.
