- 0:30Speaker 2: What's up, guys, This is coach Alex van Houghton on
- 0:32Speaker 2: the Faithful Fitness Podcast. I'm super excited about my guests today.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I usually only have one guest, so now I have
- 0:39Speaker 2: two guests, which means double or even triple the fun.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Melanie and Nate. Good to see you guys. How are
- 0:45Speaker 2: y'all doing this morning?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Hey, good morning, doing great? Thank you for having me
- 0:51Speaker 3: doing well?
- 0:52Speaker 4: Thanks?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Awesome, awesome. I'm super excited about this conversation because we
- 0:56Speaker 2: are talking about some powerful things with regard to faith
- 1:00Speaker 2: and fitness. But we're also going to get into counseling
- 1:02Speaker 2: and healing. We're going to get into testimonies and a
- 1:05Speaker 2: very important event that I want to make sure everybody
- 1:07Speaker 2: checks out. If you don't want to listen to me
- 1:09Speaker 2: talk for the next hour, then you just need to
- 1:11Speaker 2: jump into the show notes and get your ticket to
- 1:14Speaker 2: the Warrior Course. That's what we're going to be talking
- 1:17Speaker 2: about today, the Warrior Course. So we've got Melanie turn Hour,
- 1:21Speaker 2: we have Nate Remily, and you guys. Thank you so
- 1:25Speaker 2: much by the way for being here, because the conversation
- 1:29Speaker 2: we're going to have today is about our youth, and
- 1:32Speaker 2: it's about the next generation of individuals that God put
- 1:36Speaker 2: on this earth. As I pray over them, I think Lord,
- 1:40Speaker 2: teach them to be the young men and women that
- 1:43Speaker 2: you created them to be. And they have a lot
- 1:45Speaker 2: of obstacles and a lot of challenges to face that
- 1:47Speaker 2: we're going to be talking about today. So I just
- 1:49Speaker 2: want to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank
- 1:51Speaker 2: you for being willing to hop on here today and
- 1:54Speaker 2: talk about some really important topics that affect our youth.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Absolutely kind of an honor. Thank you.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So Melanie, I actually want to start with you. You
- 2:04Speaker 2: are the founder of the Power in Me nonprofit that
- 2:08Speaker 2: puts on the Warrior Course that I just mentioned. I
- 2:10Speaker 2: had the opportunity and the privilege and honor last year
- 2:14Speaker 2: to be a speaker there. I got to run with
- 2:16Speaker 2: the kids and do all the obstacles. I got to
- 2:18Speaker 2: tell you, it's like a faith based, tough mutter. Like
- 2:22Speaker 2: everything that was cool about obstacle course races I've done
- 2:24Speaker 2: in the past was cool here, but also even better
- 2:28Speaker 2: because it was all centered around Christ, and not only
- 2:32Speaker 2: centered around Christ, but also accessible to children ages ten
- 2:38Speaker 2: and up, and if they're accompanied by an adult, even younger.
- 2:41Speaker 2: So I just it's such a cool event. It's such
- 2:43Speaker 2: a cool event. I got to ask Melanie, what brought
- 2:46Speaker 2: you to the place in your journey where you're orchestrating
- 2:51Speaker 2: an obstacle course race, Because that's not what you do
- 2:54Speaker 2: for a living. Can you tell us a little bit
- 2:55Speaker 2: about who you are and how you came to be
- 3:00Speaker 2: to build this thing and put it together?
- 3:02Speaker 5: Absolutely well, I'm a lover of Christ, and I'm a wife,
- 3:08Speaker 5: I'm a mom, I'm a homesteader, and I also love
- 3:11Speaker 5: to play music and I do that for my congregation.
- 3:15Speaker 5: But that's a little bit about briefly who I am.
- 3:17Speaker 5: But many years ago, I did grow up in the church,
- 3:22Speaker 5: and then I went off to college and was pursuing
- 3:24Speaker 5: that made some really unfortunate decisions.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Those decisions made life a whole lot.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Harder, and I went through a period of a long
- 3:34Speaker 5: term depression, came out of that, went through some refining
- 3:38Speaker 5: and had to navigate, you know, the.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Results of those decisions.
- 3:42Speaker 5: I was struggling with the kingdom, being a part of
- 3:45Speaker 5: the Kingdom and listening to the culture and listening to
- 3:48Speaker 5: the lies of the culture, and that, you know, that
- 3:50Speaker 5: put me in a pickle of a spot because I, again,
- 3:53Speaker 5: I didn't make the right choices and I wasn't putting
- 3:55Speaker 5: myself in the right positions. But God was there the
- 3:59Speaker 5: whole time, and through that journey, just growing in Christ.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Eventually things got better, but they weren't healed.
- 4:09Speaker 3: And so my husband said to me, Hey, why.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Don't you start this nonprofit called the Power in Me Conference?
- 4:15Speaker 5: And it was geared towards giving young ladies the proper
- 4:19Speaker 5: view on true empowerment, true power and all based in Christ.
- 4:25Speaker 5: And then as that morphed along and came along and
- 4:28Speaker 5: God inspired us and gave us a season after season there,
- 4:32Speaker 5: we realized that we needed something for young men. And
- 4:35Speaker 5: that was when the idea about the Warrior Course came about.
- 4:38Speaker 5: Because We really believe that an Obstacle course is as
- 4:41Speaker 5: as a mirror image of what life is like. It
- 4:44Speaker 5: can be hard, it can be messy, We're gonna have
- 4:46Speaker 5: to flex our muscles, our spiritual muscles from time to time.
- 4:50Speaker 5: And we just really thought that that was a great
- 4:52Speaker 5: platform for Christians because we looked around us and that
- 4:56Speaker 5: has really something something that has hit and impacted our
- 5:00Speaker 5: our minds is that, hey, we can do more things
- 5:03Speaker 5: in christ with a christ and faith based theme here locally.
- 5:06Speaker 3: And around us. So we said, why not do this?
- 5:09Speaker 5: So we did that for the gentlemen in twenty nineteen,
- 5:12Speaker 5: and then the ladies and being you know, very active
- 5:15Speaker 5: ladies that we have these days in our society right
- 5:18Speaker 5: which it's ladies have always been hard workers and such,
- 5:20Speaker 5: you know, proverbs start to win, women have it all
- 5:22Speaker 5: together kind of things sort of, and they wanted to
- 5:25Speaker 5: be a part of it too, so we added them
- 5:27Speaker 5: in twenty twenty one, and then that just continued on.
- 5:33Speaker 5: This is our sixth year that we're going to be
- 5:34Speaker 5: doing what you're going to be talking about a little
- 5:36Speaker 5: later at the Warrior Course, and people, we encourage people
- 5:39Speaker 5: to come alongside each other and to help each other
- 5:41Speaker 5: and there it is not a race per se, a
- 5:45Speaker 5: timed race. It is something that we want people to
- 5:47Speaker 5: finish and to come alongside each other and help each other.
- 5:50Speaker 5: So hopefully that was brief enough. We can dig into
- 5:53Speaker 5: this a little deeper. If there's something I touched and missed,
- 5:55Speaker 5: please feel free to ask me.
- 5:57Speaker 2: No, that's awesome, that's awesome, and so correct me if
- 6:00Speaker 2: I'm wrong. But but the the painful road you walked
- 6:05Speaker 2: from some of the mistakes that you made, that that
- 6:09Speaker 2: you felt God pulling you back to him from, that
- 6:14Speaker 2: was the foundation, it sounds like for something powerful and
- 6:17Speaker 2: good for for other individuals. And if I'm right about that, that, Nate,
- 6:23Speaker 2: how often do you see that in counseling, that that
- 6:26Speaker 2: the painful road that you walk, whether it's the choices
- 6:29Speaker 2: you've made or choices of other people around you affecting you,
- 6:32Speaker 2: that that God can use that in a powerful way
- 6:35Speaker 2: for his kingdom and also also for for your own
- 6:38Speaker 2: healing too. How how often do you see that in
- 6:40Speaker 2: your line of work?
- 6:42Speaker 4: Well? I see that all the time.
- 6:44Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:45Speaker 6: It's uh, you know, I think of the scripture where
- 6:47Speaker 6: it talks about where what what Satan meant? For for evil,
- 6:50Speaker 6: you know God, and God turns forth for our good
- 6:53Speaker 6: and for the good of those around us. And and
- 6:55Speaker 6: that's what's I guess that's what's so exciting about everybody's
- 7:00Speaker 6: personal journey is that we all have we all have
- 7:03Speaker 6: a story like Melanie just shared there where there are
- 7:07Speaker 6: some ups and downs, and it's you know, none of
- 7:09Speaker 6: us enjoyed going through the hard times, but it's through
- 7:13Speaker 6: those times where we grow, we come out the other
- 7:16Speaker 6: side stronger. I was just talking just this last weekend
- 7:20Speaker 6: with ours, with my steenty school class about, you know,
- 7:23Speaker 6: the the examples that I've looked to in my life
- 7:26Speaker 6: of people that have have traversed some very difficult life circumstances,
- 7:32Speaker 6: sometimes of their own doing, from their own bad choices,
- 7:35Speaker 6: sometimes just lived in a fallen world with the with
- 7:39Speaker 6: the you know, with the sickness and things around us,
- 7:42Speaker 6: and and being encouraged by you know, how they have
- 7:46Speaker 6: been resilient and and leaned on God. And so it's
- 7:50Speaker 6: I think sometimes we lose that perspective, you know, when
- 7:52Speaker 6: we're hurting, we we tend to focus inward, and that's
- 7:55Speaker 6: a natural response and we need to to some degree,
- 7:58Speaker 6: but we also you know, just like Melie's story has
- 8:02Speaker 6: shown she's used that and it blesses a lot of
- 8:05Speaker 6: others through our pain. You know, God wants to use
- 8:08Speaker 6: that in some mighty ways. So see it quite often.
- 8:10Speaker 2: It's exciting from a biblical perspective to two examples come
- 8:15Speaker 2: to mind. I think of Joseph right, the Code of
- 8:18Speaker 2: Many Colors. Right, brothers throw them in a well and
- 8:20Speaker 2: then sell them as a slave. They're pretty jealous of him,
- 8:23Speaker 2: and so and so he never he never separates from
- 8:27Speaker 2: from God's will for his life. He maintains the faith,
- 8:31Speaker 2: He avoids Potiphar's wife, he gets thrown in jail, but
- 8:34Speaker 2: he's still you know, interpreting dreams and whatnot. And so
- 8:38Speaker 2: he actually says to his brothers when he finally gets
- 8:40Speaker 2: to make peace, what you intended for evil, God intended
- 8:43Speaker 2: for good for me. So that's an example of the
- 8:47Speaker 2: external forces that can affect us negatively, but but that
- 8:50Speaker 2: God can make good things come out of. But also
- 8:54Speaker 2: there's there's the example in my mind and heart of
- 8:56Speaker 2: somebody who made the wrong choice knowingly, Jonah, and and
- 9:00Speaker 2: he's actively running from God, like he's like, you want
- 9:04Speaker 2: me to go wear it? No, I'm good. Thanks, I'm
- 9:05Speaker 2: going to go exactly in the opposite direction. And you
- 9:09Speaker 2: know he has to pay a price for that. He
- 9:13Speaker 2: hangs out in the belly of a whale. Jonah chapter
- 9:15Speaker 2: two is one of the most I think one of
- 9:17Speaker 2: the most heart wrenching prayers for repentance is like, look, hey,
- 9:21Speaker 2: if I have to die for what I've done, bring
- 9:23Speaker 2: it on. But if you give me another chance, I
- 9:27Speaker 2: will turn towards you. I will do this the right way.
- 9:30Speaker 2: And so the fish spits him out, and then God
- 9:33Speaker 2: repeats his request, go to nineve yes, sir, and so
- 9:38Speaker 2: Jonah goes. And in both cases, both cases, whether it's
- 9:42Speaker 2: the external things affecting somebody negatively or the choices that
- 9:47Speaker 2: we make bringing us down a road that God never
- 9:49Speaker 2: intended for us, then God can make good out of
- 9:54Speaker 2: both of those things. And Melanie, I want to ask
- 9:57Speaker 2: you why, kids, because it sounds to me, and correct
- 10:01Speaker 2: me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me a
- 10:03Speaker 2: big part of your healing journey didn't happen until later
- 10:07Speaker 2: in life, until after some of the choices that you
- 10:10Speaker 2: made as a youth. Why why center your your your
- 10:16Speaker 2: What am I trying to say, your obstacle course race.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Why center your your nonprofit organization, why center that on
- 10:23Speaker 2: youth ministry specifically?
- 10:26Speaker 3: Sure?
- 10:26Speaker 5: Absolutely, well, because when I was young, my my story
- 10:31Speaker 5: is is that I was ostracized as a child from
- 10:35Speaker 5: where I was in life going to school, et cetera,
- 10:38Speaker 5: and growing up and I lived. I lived on a farm,
- 10:42Speaker 5: and so you don't have a lot of friends, and
- 10:44Speaker 5: then when you go to school, you're looking to make
- 10:46Speaker 5: those connections, et cetera, but they just weren't there. And
- 10:51Speaker 5: so that's that's just a reality for my for my story,
- 10:54Speaker 5: which is maybe not everybody's story.
- 10:56Speaker 3: But it's a lot of people's story.
- 10:59Speaker 5: And so connecting with youth early on to show them
- 11:03Speaker 5: the hope of Jesus Christ and his love and that
- 11:06Speaker 5: salvation and getting that power inside them via the Holy
- 11:10Speaker 5: Spirit the Gospel message, then maybe we can save more
- 11:14Speaker 5: who are going down a path of self harm and
- 11:19Speaker 5: ultimate terminal self harm and trying to help them avoid
- 11:24Speaker 5: that and help them to not look in the wrong places.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Show that there are Christian outlets for things. There's Christian music,
- 11:31Speaker 5: there's more Christian centered news or faith based where you
- 11:35Speaker 5: can get news and articles about the culture going on
- 11:38Speaker 5: around you, or what is the situation, getting information to them,
- 11:43Speaker 5: godly resources and godly tools. Example, our connection and our
- 11:48Speaker 5: partnership with Nathan Rimiley and two other counselors in our area,
- 11:53Speaker 5: and so getting in with the youth first, because a
- 11:57Speaker 5: lot of times they aren't aware or don't have acts
- 12:00Speaker 5: says to the proper information and the proper tools. And
- 12:03Speaker 5: so we are looking to save lives and to help
- 12:06Speaker 5: change lives through the power of Jesus Christ. And we
- 12:10Speaker 5: believe in doing that as young as we can because
- 12:13Speaker 5: those are experiences that the Lord brought me through. And
- 12:16Speaker 5: so I'm just that's the basis upon which I have
- 12:19Speaker 5: built my inspiration MMM.
- 12:22Speaker 2: And so I think of this as a dad. This
- 12:25Speaker 2: is the U I have two sons of a six
- 12:28Speaker 2: year old and a ten year old, and I often
- 12:31Speaker 2: will say to them, son, you can either learn this
- 12:33Speaker 2: the easy way or the hard way. Yes, And by
- 12:35Speaker 2: the hard way, I don't mean I'm going to take
- 12:37Speaker 2: him up back and whip him at the woodshed. I
- 12:39Speaker 2: mean I mean that if you learn this lesson now,
- 12:42Speaker 2: if you embody this lesson, whatever it is, it could
- 12:45Speaker 2: be setting aside money from what you've from what you've
- 12:50Speaker 2: earned to save it and tie it if you can
- 12:53Speaker 2: learn to live on less as opposed to spending everything
- 12:56Speaker 2: you make. If you learn this lesson now, it won't
- 12:59Speaker 2: be so painful in the future when you have to
- 13:01Speaker 2: learn this lesson the hard way. Right, I'll say things
- 13:03Speaker 2: like that to my sons all the time, but there's
- 13:07Speaker 2: deep truth to that. Right In the Old Testament Deuteronomy
- 13:12Speaker 2: and Exodus, the Lord says to the Israelites via Moses,
- 13:17Speaker 2: teach your children about all of the things that God
- 13:20Speaker 2: has done, so that they will follow my laws, so
- 13:24Speaker 2: that they will walk in the way that I've intended
- 13:26Speaker 2: you Israelites to walk in, Because if you don't, it's
- 13:29Speaker 2: going to be a painful road. It's going to be
- 13:31Speaker 2: a bad things are going to happen that you don't
- 13:33Speaker 2: want to happen. That actually happen all throughout the Old Testament,
- 13:37Speaker 2: which really stinks for the Israelites. But there's this really
- 13:40Speaker 2: heartbreaking verse in Judges, and I wanted to talk to
- 13:42Speaker 2: you about this, Nate. Is this heartbreaking verse and it
- 13:45Speaker 2: says in Judges chapter two, it says, in another generation
- 13:50Speaker 2: arose that did not know of the goodness of God,
- 13:55Speaker 2: or another translation says that did not know of the
- 13:58Speaker 2: good works of the Lord, Right. And I imagine as
- 14:02Speaker 2: a counselor, this is a this is a pain point
- 14:04Speaker 2: for you. And I want to talk about this because
- 14:06Speaker 2: in counseling, have you have elements of counseling that are preventative,
- 14:12Speaker 2: like I want to I want to work with this
- 14:13Speaker 2: person to help them before this thing becomes a bigger
- 14:16Speaker 2: problem in their life. Right. And then you have things
- 14:19Speaker 2: that you work with as a counselor that's like the
- 14:21Speaker 2: damage has already been done and we're trying to we're
- 14:25Speaker 2: trying to well not undo it, but to heal and
- 14:29Speaker 2: learn and grow so that this damage that's been done
- 14:32Speaker 2: doesn't follow you for the rest of your life. Right.
- 14:35Speaker 2: And so I wandered from your your counselor's perspective, and
- 14:38Speaker 2: maybe even from the perspective of the father when when
- 14:42Speaker 2: you are in support of something like the Power of
- 14:46Speaker 2: Me conference or the Warrior Course, what is your heart
- 14:51Speaker 2: toward working with the youth before certain things become a
- 14:56Speaker 2: problem for them later in life.
- 15:00Speaker 6: Yes, no, that's a great question. And I I think, uh,
- 15:05Speaker 6: the Power of Me focus is just right. It's at
- 15:08Speaker 6: the perfect age, you know, because there's nothing more sad
- 15:13Speaker 6: to me than to be sitting across from someone in
- 15:16Speaker 6: their seventies.
- 15:18Speaker 4: And it's been interesting the last couple of years.
- 15:20Speaker 6: I've seen a lot of the may More senior generation
- 15:25Speaker 6: uh in office, which is which is great that they're
- 15:28Speaker 6: feeling more open to do that.
- 15:30Speaker 4: But uh and this and this is in all their stories.
- 15:33Speaker 6: But sometimes there's are often actually there's that story of
- 15:37Speaker 6: of what you're talking about of they have there's these regrets,
- 15:42Speaker 6: you know, and and a lot of my work there
- 15:45Speaker 6: is is trying to get get through that and realize, hey,
- 15:48Speaker 6: you know, you're still breathing. God has purpose for you.
- 15:50Speaker 6: There is still a future for you as well. But
- 15:54Speaker 6: but my heart aches for them at times because so
- 15:57Speaker 6: much life has been lived and there's so many mistakes,
- 15:59Speaker 6: and there's the generation that has you know, that that
- 16:02Speaker 6: that's come through there that that they maybe haven't shared
- 16:06Speaker 6: like they would have hoped at this point and where
- 16:09Speaker 6: they're at now and so uh so, yeah, I think
- 16:12Speaker 6: that you know, if if we can if we can
- 16:17Speaker 6: catch these youth at at a younger age. And what's
- 16:19Speaker 6: fascinating to me as a counselor is that I lived
- 16:22Speaker 6: in Springfield for for a while, and I worked a
- 16:24Speaker 6: lot with inner city youth and kids there, and and
- 16:29Speaker 6: there are times that I would see a kid that
- 16:31Speaker 6: was just that was way above where they should be
- 16:35Speaker 6: given their living condition. Right, I'm meeting with the usually
- 16:39Speaker 6: a single single mom typically and and maybe she's pulled
- 16:42Speaker 6: lots of different directions, has a lot, way too much
- 16:45Speaker 6: on her plate, and and and things are chaotic. And
- 16:47Speaker 6: then I meet this kid and they're just you know,
- 16:50Speaker 6: they're honestly seem more mature than the than the parent.
- 16:53Speaker 6: And almost every time I would say I would, I would,
- 16:56Speaker 6: I have to say every time, there is one person
- 16:59Speaker 6: somewhere that has invested in that child in some way.
- 17:03Speaker 6: There's there's a couple, there's you know, someone has has
- 17:06Speaker 6: taken time to uh, you know, to pour into them
- 17:09Speaker 6: and typically with the gospel message, helping them understand who
- 17:13Speaker 6: they are in Christ.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Uh And and so you know that's what's exciting.
- 17:17Speaker 6: Sometimes we can get that attitude that you know, hey,
- 17:19Speaker 6: this is just a maybe we say we can invent
- 17:23Speaker 6: we can event you know, how how powerful can this be?
- 17:26Speaker 6: Or you know, it's it's this you know, I'm just
- 17:28Speaker 6: one person, but you know, I want to encourage those
- 17:31Speaker 6: listening that you know, if if God places something on
- 17:34Speaker 6: your heart, places a kid on your heart, a team
- 17:36Speaker 6: on your heart, don't ignore that. It's amazing what God
- 17:40Speaker 6: can do with one person that's that's devoted to to
- 17:44Speaker 6: share Christ with with kids.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Thank you, Thank you for that. I was that kid.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I was that kid. One of the reasons I have
- 17:50Speaker 2: such a heart for what you guys are doing is
- 17:52Speaker 2: is I grew up in a single parent home with
- 17:55Speaker 2: three younger siblings. And and there was a guy who
- 17:59Speaker 2: ran a kickboxing school across the street. And he saw
- 18:02Speaker 2: his school as a ministry. And I know you like
- 18:06Speaker 2: kickboxing and Jesus don't seem to mix. We used to
- 18:09Speaker 2: joke that we beat the hades out of you, that's
- 18:11Speaker 2: how we made you hold it wah wah. But but
- 18:16Speaker 2: the we didn't We couldn't afford this. We couldn't go
- 18:19Speaker 2: across the street and pay for kickboxing lessons. But he
- 18:22Speaker 2: had a big heart for for kids who are growing
- 18:25Speaker 2: up in broken homes. And so he told my mom
- 18:27Speaker 2: send him over, like he doesn't have to pay. Send
- 18:29Speaker 2: him over. Is often he's willing to come work out,
- 18:30Speaker 2: let's do it. And so so that was a huge part.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Excuse me, it was a huge part of my story
- 18:39Speaker 2: was to be introduced to Christ in with a with
- 18:42Speaker 2: a group of guys who loved me, who were willing
- 18:45Speaker 2: to let me beat on them. You know, I didn't
- 18:47Speaker 2: have a father figure in the homes, so so I
- 18:49Speaker 2: was connected to them and they you might ask, how
- 18:52Speaker 2: how do you make kickboxing a Christian thing? We would
- 18:56Speaker 2: stop in the middle of the workout and there was
- 18:57Speaker 2: a verse, and he would teach the verse and take
- 19:00Speaker 2: prayer requests and and there were so many people who
- 19:03Speaker 2: came to know Christ out of this kickboxing school that
- 19:07Speaker 2: it might as well have been a church. It wasn't,
- 19:09Speaker 2: but it might as well have been, right, And I'm
- 19:12Speaker 2: one of them. And I know when I came to
- 19:15Speaker 2: the the event last year, to the Warrior Course, I
- 19:18Speaker 2: know that many of the individuals who came, parents, children,
- 19:24Speaker 2: et cetera. I know that that many of them wouldn't
- 19:27Speaker 2: feel confident connected or or even ministered to in a
- 19:32Speaker 2: traditional church setting. It's it's an event. I'm going to
- 19:36Speaker 2: come to this event, and I'm gonna I'm going to
- 19:38Speaker 2: run the course and and whatnot, and and the way
- 19:40Speaker 2: the way it's a Christian Obstacle Course race is there's
- 19:44Speaker 2: a well, actually, Melanie, I'd like you to tell us
- 19:48Speaker 2: more about that, because because the way that you guys
- 19:51Speaker 2: have iterated this over the past few years is obvious
- 19:53Speaker 2: that it gets better every year, and and to me
- 19:57Speaker 2: getting to participate in that, getting to be a speaker
- 20:00Speaker 2: in that, and then getting to go with the kids
- 20:02Speaker 2: through the course, that it was very obvious to me
- 20:06Speaker 2: that this was Christ centered in a lot of ways
- 20:09Speaker 2: that the kids might not have noticed, but it was
- 20:12Speaker 2: obvious that Christ was apart sure, not just a part
- 20:16Speaker 2: of this thing, but in the middle of it. Can
- 20:18Speaker 2: you talk through that with me?
- 20:19Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 20:20Speaker 5: So we do the course. The guys run separately from
- 20:23Speaker 5: the girls. They run in two different segments, and real briefly.
- 20:26Speaker 3: And why do we do that.
- 20:27Speaker 5: There's specific reasons that we can get into a little
- 20:29Speaker 5: bit later. But then when they go through the course,
- 20:32Speaker 5: at every station, there's a Bible verse.
- 20:34Speaker 3: One Bible verse.
- 20:34Speaker 5: It's the same one throughout the entire course, but we
- 20:37Speaker 5: put it on a board and it's there and they
- 20:40Speaker 5: are to look at it, read it, and say it
- 20:42Speaker 5: at each station. And then once they get to their
- 20:45Speaker 5: last station, which is approximately the twenty second twenty second station.
- 20:49Speaker 5: We have about twenty two and then once they go
- 20:53Speaker 5: to that last station, they have to recite it from
- 20:56Speaker 5: memory and then go through and if they don't recite
- 20:59Speaker 5: it from memory, they have to go through that last
- 21:02Speaker 5: obstacle station again. And the last one is technically the hardest.
- 21:07Speaker 5: And it's a very chilling experience. That's all I'll say,
- 21:10Speaker 5: unless you want to spoil the spill the beans later,
- 21:12Speaker 5: but it's a very chilling, Okay, it's a very chilling experience.
- 21:16Speaker 5: So yes, we want people to walk away with something permanent,
- 21:21Speaker 5: and we believe that writing the scriptures of the Lord
- 21:23Speaker 5: on your heart is the best way to walk through life,
- 21:26Speaker 5: and so that's how we center that. Plus we have
- 21:30Speaker 5: a speaker, which is why we're connected today. We were
- 21:33Speaker 5: connected to you through a gentleman who is on our
- 21:35Speaker 5: team and serves on our team and said, hey, have
- 21:37Speaker 5: you heard about coach Alex vn Houghten And we were like,
- 21:40Speaker 5: I haven't, but I want to research teams. So we
- 21:43Speaker 5: ended up connecting with you. We asked for a faith
- 21:46Speaker 5: based message. You gave that connected to real life, real
- 21:50Speaker 5: time in a godly way, with God's design and God's perspective,
- 21:53Speaker 5: and because we believe that we have gotten so far
- 21:56Speaker 5: away from remembering that everything is God's. Everything is about God,
- 22:01Speaker 5: and we are his and we are here to glorify
- 22:04Speaker 5: Him with what we have in everything and to touch
- 22:07Speaker 5: on something that you said a little bit earlier. And
- 22:11Speaker 5: our organization is about sharing truth John eight thirty two.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Then you shall know the truth, and the truth shall
- 22:17Speaker 5: set you free. The truth shall set your truth. Knowing
- 22:20Speaker 5: it will set you free. And we want to see
- 22:23Speaker 5: these youth and potentially their parents, their chaperones, whomever it
- 22:28Speaker 5: comes with them, see them set free to And I
- 22:31Speaker 5: just believe from my own personal testimony that I have
- 22:33Speaker 5: been set free and it has actually been through the
- 22:36Speaker 5: journey of producing and putting on this nonprofit and this
- 22:41Speaker 5: event that I myself have continued to be set free
- 22:45Speaker 5: just in the things and the people that I have
- 22:46Speaker 5: come in contact with. What God meant for me to do,
- 22:50Speaker 5: He also meant for me to experience and to continue
- 22:53Speaker 5: to heal through.
- 22:54Speaker 7: So do you have anything to add to that, Nate, Well,
- 22:58Speaker 7: I my mind, I'm a I'm a man, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 7: so I think in one, one box at a time.
- 23:05Speaker 6: Right, But Melanie, you said, you mentioned the verse John
- 23:08Speaker 6: eight thirty two, and and I actually have those on
- 23:10Speaker 6: all my business. That's kind of my my my verse
- 23:13Speaker 6: for my counsel, which I I hadn't I didn't make that,
- 23:16Speaker 6: hadn't made that connection yet, which is really really neat, right.
- 23:19Speaker 4: But I think that's absolutely absolutely the case.
- 23:23Speaker 6: You know, when we know the truth you know, which
- 23:25Speaker 6: which is Christ, but also begin to learn and know
- 23:29Speaker 6: the truth of of of who we are uh in Christ,
- 23:32Speaker 6: who we are, who God's greatest to be it that's
- 23:35Speaker 6: that's a powerful thing. That's that's so foundational for these kids.
- 23:39Speaker 6: And I you know, I, I uh, this this course,
- 23:42Speaker 6: I think.
- 23:44Speaker 2: It all.
- 23:44Speaker 4: It feels good, you know, Alex.
- 23:46Speaker 6: I can tell you that you know, you're a you're
- 23:48Speaker 6: a great man, strong, buff all those things you know,
- 23:52Speaker 6: and and that that would feel good to you, right,
- 23:53Speaker 6: I mean it's nice, good compliments. Uh, But it's not
- 23:56Speaker 6: until you actually do things. It's not until you actually
- 23:59Speaker 6: out there doing it that you really that you really
- 24:02Speaker 6: take it in and believe it for yourself. You No, yes,
- 24:05Speaker 6: we can believe those messages, but it's doing it's the
- 24:08Speaker 6: experience of doing it.
- 24:09Speaker 4: And that's why I love.
- 24:13Speaker 6: I had two girls that my youngest two went through
- 24:15Speaker 6: the course last year and we had some cousins come
- 24:17Speaker 6: with them, and and uh, I've got this picture actually
- 24:20Speaker 6: a little video of them right after the course. They're
- 24:22Speaker 6: all in a little huddle and they're kind of just
- 24:24Speaker 6: bouncing together and you know, and shaking each other and
- 24:28Speaker 6: and uh, you know, they were just you could just
- 24:31Speaker 6: see the confidence level rise in them, you know, as
- 24:35Speaker 6: they had accomplished this this thing and and with with
- 24:38Speaker 6: the biblical truth as a foundation.
- 24:40Speaker 4: And yeah, I think that's it's it's a great thing.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Well this guys, you Melanie, just hats off to you
- 24:48Speaker 2: and in the community. I want to talk a bit
- 24:50Speaker 2: about how how this thing comes together in a moment.
- 24:52Speaker 2: But but this is a this is a world class
- 24:56Speaker 2: obstacle course that you guys have put together. I'm saying
- 24:58Speaker 2: that you don't you don't market that, but I'm saying
- 25:01Speaker 2: it because I've experienced obstacle course races that I've paid
- 25:05Speaker 2: money for and flown, you know, across the country to
- 25:08Speaker 2: be a part of and ran clients through them and
- 25:12Speaker 2: train them for it and whatnot. What you guys have
- 25:14Speaker 2: put together is is very unique. It's very unique for
- 25:21Speaker 2: children to have the opportunity to go through something like this,
- 25:24Speaker 2: to face heights and to face water, and to face
- 25:28Speaker 2: zip lines, and to like like it's real. It's real
- 25:32Speaker 2: experiences that they will not forget. And I you know,
- 25:36Speaker 2: it's it's something that it's not so what's the word.
- 25:40Speaker 2: It's not so advanced that they can't do it and
- 25:43Speaker 2: they have, you know, there's not like the ridiculous pressure
- 25:46Speaker 2: that you you know, you have to do it whether
- 25:48Speaker 2: you like it or not. There's not like you guys
- 25:50Speaker 2: just strike a really good spirit for kids that that
- 25:53Speaker 2: you know a lot of their friends are doing it.
- 25:55Speaker 2: They've got coaches at every obstacle to kind of to
- 25:57Speaker 2: coax you through that and keep it safe, but also
- 26:00Speaker 2: also to encourage, you know. I remember the very first
- 26:04Speaker 2: the very first thing, we got right into the water,
- 26:07Speaker 2: the very first thing in the tough mutter. That's what
- 26:09Speaker 2: they do to you, by the way. The very first
- 26:11Speaker 2: obstacle is like, I know you were you weren't going
- 26:14Speaker 2: to get wet and muddy, but you're gonna get wet
- 26:15Speaker 2: and undy very first thing, and then run this whole
- 26:18Speaker 2: thing wet and muddy, and so I remember there was
- 26:21Speaker 2: a there's a little boy. I don't remember his name,
- 26:23Speaker 2: but I remember his face because he was super excited
- 26:27Speaker 2: about this until he got to the water's edge and
- 26:29Speaker 2: was like, I'm not gonna make this one. I'm not
- 26:33Speaker 2: gonna be okay. And I had just finished speaking to
- 26:36Speaker 2: him and say, hey, man, I'll do this with you,
- 26:38Speaker 2: like it's gonna be cold to me too, I'll make
- 26:40Speaker 2: sure you don't drown, like, let's do this thing. And
- 26:43Speaker 2: and what was crazy is is for me, that's the
- 26:46Speaker 2: spirit of the Father. The spirit of the Father is
- 26:49Speaker 2: encouraging through love. The spirit of Father is disciplined, because
- 26:54Speaker 2: we can't grow unless we're disciplined. The spirit of the
- 26:57Speaker 2: Father looks at you and says, I know what you're
- 26:58Speaker 2: capable of, and I'm not gonna I'm not going to
- 27:02Speaker 2: let you do less than that.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Amen.
- 27:04Speaker 2: And so so like he went through this, and then
- 27:07Speaker 2: he seems so confident after that. He was he was
- 27:09Speaker 2: ready to do all this stuff. But I remember thinking, like,
- 27:14Speaker 2: we're less than three minutes into this, this obstacle course,
- 27:18Speaker 2: and this is what it's about. This is the opportunity
- 27:21Speaker 2: for young men and young women to address something very physical,
- 27:27Speaker 2: very very real, and in your face not on the iPad,
- 27:31Speaker 2: and no offense to pastors, not from the pole pit,
- 27:35Speaker 2: to see this actually come alive and embody it, and Nate,
- 27:39Speaker 2: I wanted to ask you for me in my journey
- 27:43Speaker 2: obviously from a physical fitness perspective, movement and exercise and
- 27:48Speaker 2: embodiment of the Word of God. I even I wrote
- 27:53Speaker 2: a devotional about it. It's coming out very soon called
- 27:56Speaker 2: Faithful Fitness Forty Days of Stewardship for the Christian Mind
- 28:01Speaker 2: and Body. I know that there's something here about the
- 28:06Speaker 2: experience of embodying God's word, his truth, but also how
- 28:12Speaker 2: He made us to be. Can you talk a little
- 28:15Speaker 2: bit about what you think is the connection in your
- 28:19Speaker 2: counseling practice between movement which doesn't seem connected at all,
- 28:24Speaker 2: and and that that like inner strength or healing that occurs.
- 28:29Speaker 2: What how does how did those two things play together
- 28:31Speaker 2: in your mind? If at all?
- 28:34Speaker 4: Well, they absolutely are connected.
- 28:36Speaker 6: I don't know that I know all the ins and
- 28:37Speaker 6: outs of of of why they work and how it works,
- 28:41Speaker 6: but I will say, and you know, study after study
- 28:44Speaker 6: will confirm this. I mean that you know there's there's
- 28:47Speaker 6: not a there's really a mental health struggle that I
- 28:52Speaker 6: that I see that isn't helped by getting out and
- 28:56Speaker 6: doing some exercise or you know, and you know, it's
- 29:00Speaker 6: it's relative, right, It's relative to where you're at, who
- 29:03Speaker 6: you are, you know, your makeup, and what exercise looks
- 29:06Speaker 6: like for you. But but I absolutely believe that, uh,
- 29:10Speaker 6: you know, there's something special about seeing someone that's I
- 29:14Speaker 6: think we all can see it when when someone's doing
- 29:16Speaker 6: what they're created to do, there's just a there's a
- 29:20Speaker 6: there's a glow there, there's there's just it's.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Just working right.
- 29:23Speaker 6: And so when it and I agree one hundred percent,
- 29:27Speaker 6: I mean, we are created to be to be active,
- 29:31Speaker 6: you know, that's when we're we're so connected that the
- 29:35Speaker 6: more healthy that we are physically, you know, I find that,
- 29:38Speaker 6: you know, we're healthier, we're in a much better mental state.
- 29:43Speaker 4: Emotionally, we're much better. We've got, you know, a much
- 29:46Speaker 4: wider bandwidth. We're much more resilient. That's something else I'd
- 29:50Speaker 4: like to talk about as the resilience.
- 29:52Speaker 6: We don't have to get to it right now, but
- 29:53Speaker 6: I think that's an important that's that's something that we're
- 29:56Speaker 6: I feel like we're.
- 29:57Speaker 4: Losing a little bit as a culture in America is.
- 30:01Speaker 6: That is that resilience of being able to Obviously I'm
- 30:05Speaker 6: a counselor. I want to be open to as many
- 30:08Speaker 6: people as I can. But I think sometimes you know,
- 30:10Speaker 6: it's it's I like to see it where people didn't fight.
- 30:15Speaker 6: Everyone doesn't have to have a counselor. You know what
- 30:17Speaker 6: I'm saying. You know, I mean, I want to be available.
- 30:20Speaker 6: I don't want there to be a stigma there. But
- 30:22Speaker 6: I also want to build, you know, help build you know,
- 30:26Speaker 6: resiliency into youth to where they can to where they're networking.
- 30:30Speaker 4: With with others and and you know.
- 30:32Speaker 6: Uh and being able to be leaders themselves. You know,
- 30:36Speaker 6: I was talking about this to a GEST group last
- 30:39Speaker 6: night of you know, you guys, you know, there's a
- 30:41Speaker 6: lot of potential maturity in this room, and you guys
- 30:45Speaker 6: are leaders, whether you realize they or not, you know,
- 30:48Speaker 6: and so so yeah, I don't know if I answer
- 30:51Speaker 6: that that too thoroughly, but yeah, exercise, I think is
- 30:54Speaker 6: a vital and the discipline it takes, I think that's
- 30:58Speaker 6: the other thing that I see really lacking. Uh And
- 31:01Speaker 6: and hey, I'll be the first to say there's times
- 31:04Speaker 6: I'm not as disciplined as I need.
- 31:05Speaker 4: To be but discipline. You know, show me someone.
- 31:09Speaker 6: With an addition struggle and across the board, and I'll
- 31:15Speaker 6: typically show you someone that lacks discipline in other areas
- 31:19Speaker 6: as well.
- 31:19Speaker 4: It's not as simple as that.
- 31:20Speaker 6: I don't want to oversimplify or minimize you know, pain
- 31:23Speaker 6: and struggles and the things that someone's going through. But
- 31:26Speaker 6: discipline is a huge key element to us being able
- 31:30Speaker 6: to really.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Either stay on track or get on track. And you
- 31:34Speaker 4: know what God's intended for us.
- 31:36Speaker 5: And I think that that is Could I speak to that, Alex,
- 31:39Speaker 5: just real quick. It is about discipline. Self discipline is
- 31:43Speaker 5: a major factor in how quickly we recover or how
- 31:48Speaker 5: slowly we recover. Our theme verse for the organization is
- 31:52Speaker 5: two Timothy one seven. For I have not given you
- 31:54Speaker 5: a spirit of fear intimidity, but a spirit of power
- 31:58Speaker 5: and of love and of self control. And circling back
- 32:01Speaker 5: to original conversation about the faith is that that is
- 32:05Speaker 5: what we're trying to get these youth to see, is
- 32:08Speaker 5: that we are not victims. We are victors, and we
- 32:11Speaker 5: can be victors when we have the spirit.
- 32:13Speaker 3: How do we have the power.
- 32:14Speaker 5: We get the Holy Spirit through God's salvation and his
- 32:18Speaker 5: gospel message, you know, repent, confess, believe, be baptized, receive
- 32:21Speaker 5: the gift of the Holy Spirit, be sealed into salvation,
- 32:25Speaker 5: and then know the course itself again is the mirror image,
- 32:29Speaker 5: because this walk is not going to be all a
- 32:32Speaker 5: bed of roses.
- 32:32Speaker 3: It's going to be ugly and it's going to be hard.
- 32:35Speaker 3: But we were all given into what.
- 32:37Speaker 5: You were saying earlier, Coach Alex is that everybody who
- 32:40Speaker 5: comes there are modifications for the course, because we believe
- 32:44Speaker 5: again it's a mirror image of life.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Not everybody is the head, not everybody is the.
- 32:48Speaker 5: Feet, and so we are all going to get through
- 32:51Speaker 5: the course of life in different paces and in different ways,
- 32:55Speaker 5: and so we don't.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Expect everybody to complete every obstacle the same.
- 33:01Speaker 5: And then also getting back to the most direct question
- 33:04Speaker 5: you were just asking, Nathan, was that there's a verse
- 33:08Speaker 5: that also says to make it your ambition to lead
- 33:11Speaker 5: a quiet life and to work with your hands and
- 33:14Speaker 5: mind your own business, mind your own business, and work
- 33:16Speaker 5: with your hands.
- 33:17Speaker 3: And that's what it says.
- 33:19Speaker 5: That's not that's a cheery picking of that sort of
- 33:22Speaker 5: he doesn't mean to just state, you know, right here
- 33:24Speaker 5: and don't pay attention.
- 33:25Speaker 3: To anything else going around you. That's I don't believe that's.
- 33:28Speaker 5: What the context of the Scripture is saying. He's saying that,
- 33:31Speaker 5: you know, work, be active, do do things, and so
- 33:36Speaker 5: and also the.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Temple of God. Our bodies are the temple of God.
- 33:39Speaker 3: How do we keep them in shape?
- 33:41Speaker 5: Well, we can clearly see through you know, years of
- 33:44Speaker 5: observation that sitting still does not do anything for us,
- 33:47Speaker 5: and so stay active. I believe we can look towards
- 33:50Speaker 5: Scripture on that because God references movement a lot. You know,
- 33:54Speaker 5: running the race. A runner runs the race.
- 33:57Speaker 3: And you know, so.
- 34:00Speaker 2: You're you're as you guys were speaking, I was thinking
- 34:02Speaker 2: through some of the some of the things that we
- 34:05Speaker 2: talk through in the devotional, and you, guys, this will
- 34:07Speaker 2: be familiar to you because I spoke about it last year,
- 34:10Speaker 2: unless you weren't listening, in which case turn your listening
- 34:13Speaker 2: ears on. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I I
- 34:17Speaker 2: hear when when Nate talks about resilience in the devotion,
- 34:21Speaker 2: we call that grit. We call it the discipline of grit.
- 34:24Speaker 2: And the world's version is, if at first you don't succeed,
- 34:26Speaker 2: try and try again, right but but we have a
- 34:29Speaker 2: we have a Christian version of that, and and you
- 34:31Speaker 2: can see several pieces of that throughout scripture. But but
- 34:35Speaker 2: one of the verses that comes to mind is is
- 34:37Speaker 2: in Galatians where Paul admonishes the church, let us not
- 34:41Speaker 2: grow weary of doing good works. In the end, we
- 34:45Speaker 2: will read the harvest if we do not give up.
- 34:48Speaker 2: And there's this, there's this deep idea, and Christ echoes this. Well,
- 34:52Speaker 2: Christ is the progenitor of this. So I guess it's
- 34:54Speaker 2: Paul echoing Christ. But but when when he says, no,
- 34:58Speaker 2: man who puts his hands to the plow and turns
- 34:59Speaker 2: a away from it is fit for the kingdom of heaven.
- 35:02Speaker 2: And this idea that that there has to be some
- 35:06Speaker 2: resilience within the Christian walk, because like you said, Melie,
- 35:10Speaker 2: it's not going to be easy, right, it's not going
- 35:12Speaker 2: to be a primrose path. You're you are going to
- 35:14Speaker 2: face trials, says James, Like you will. You will face
- 35:18Speaker 2: these things. And but if you have some grit, if
- 35:21Speaker 2: you have resilience, which is in my experience born, it
- 35:25Speaker 2: has to be embodied. You know, you can't like you know,
- 35:28Speaker 2: I didn't give up, how I kept thinking through the problem.
- 35:32Speaker 2: It doesn't happen that way. I didn't give up when
- 35:35Speaker 2: my legs started to burn. I didn't give up when
- 35:38Speaker 2: my fingers didn't want to hold on anymore. I didn't
- 35:42Speaker 2: give up when I was afraid. I didn't give up
- 35:45Speaker 2: when I wasn't sure I could do this right. Grit.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Grit is a discipline that you use the word resilience
- 35:51Speaker 2: name I like the word grit. Either way, it's the
- 35:53Speaker 2: same idea. It's it's the discipline of saying, no matter what,
- 35:58Speaker 2: I'm going to keep putting one foot in front of you,
- 36:00Speaker 2: no matter what, I'm going to hold on, no matter what,
- 36:03Speaker 2: I'm going to give this my best effort, regardless of
- 36:08Speaker 2: how I feel about this thing. And then the other
- 36:10Speaker 2: thing you guys were talking about, and this is like
- 36:14Speaker 2: the discipline self control. We talk about that from the
- 36:19Speaker 2: perspective of integrity, not necessarily the value of doing the
- 36:24Speaker 2: same thing no matter who's watching or always telling the truth,
- 36:27Speaker 2: but integrity coming from the word integer, meaning a whole
- 36:31Speaker 2: part put together right. Discipline self control. Discipline is the
- 36:36Speaker 2: process of taking all of me, all of my weird,
- 36:39Speaker 2: all of my weird wants and things that I think
- 36:42Speaker 2: I need and bringing them all under one umbrella and
- 36:48Speaker 2: an r in the Gospel that is in the service
- 36:51Speaker 2: of Christ. So when I think of the body, I'm like,
- 36:55Speaker 2: what am I going to do with my body today? Well?
- 36:56Speaker 2: Better be in service to God's kingdom. And if it's not,
- 37:00Speaker 2: I need to ask some serious questions about how I'm
- 37:03Speaker 2: going to spend my time and energy today. And so
- 37:06Speaker 2: that all comes under this, this umbrella of integrity. And
- 37:10Speaker 2: I talked last year, and I intend to talk this
- 37:13Speaker 2: year about the other two growth in AWE. But if
- 37:16Speaker 2: you want to hear those, I guess you'll just have
- 37:17Speaker 2: to be there.
- 37:19Speaker 5: So we kept covering your acronym last year, and it's
- 37:23Speaker 5: coming up a little bit short for me now, but
- 37:24Speaker 5: I remember, like for the first two to three weeks
- 37:27Speaker 5: after the course, I was quizzing my daughter about the
- 37:30Speaker 5: acronym that you taught.
- 37:31Speaker 2: So, yeah, yeah, Giga Giga grit integrity growth in AWE.
- 37:36Speaker 2: That's the and I don't know, I don't know why
- 37:38Speaker 2: it spells giga. That just makes it easy to remember.
- 37:44Speaker 2: But I do want to speak about the course specifically
- 37:48Speaker 2: as we're coming up toward the end of our conversation here,
- 37:51Speaker 2: I want to speak about the course specifically, so if
- 37:54Speaker 2: individuals are listening, they're like, hey, okay, I want to
- 37:57Speaker 2: be there. I am bringing my family and the individuals
- 38:03Speaker 2: from our ministry up from Greenboro, Arkansas. It's going to
- 38:06Speaker 2: be like a six or seven hour drive. Where is
- 38:09Speaker 2: this thing? When is this thing? How much do it costs?
- 38:12Speaker 2: How do people get involved? We'll have links and stuff
- 38:15Speaker 2: in the show notes, but I want to allow you
- 38:18Speaker 2: to talk through that with us. Is what is the
- 38:22Speaker 2: Warrior Course and how do people get involved in it?
- 38:25Speaker 5: Sure, So on Saturday, September the sixth, it's going to
- 38:28Speaker 5: take place. You can show up ten am. It is
- 38:32Speaker 5: our registration time. We're starting a little bit later so
- 38:35Speaker 5: that people from the big cities, so Saint Louis, Kansas City,
- 38:40Speaker 5: Saint Joe from those regions can drive in and get
- 38:43Speaker 5: in and don't have to get up so extremely early,
- 38:45Speaker 5: and we're looking forward to that power inmeconference dot Com
- 38:49Speaker 5: is where all of the information is located as an
- 38:52Speaker 5: umbrella statement. We are also on Facebook and Instagram with
- 38:56Speaker 5: those details. Then we have you can get your tickets
- 39:00Speaker 5: at it tickets dot com and all of the specific
- 39:03Speaker 5: pricing is there and due to new pricing awarenesses. I
- 39:09Speaker 5: guess you could say all of the everything is listed
- 39:11Speaker 5: up front and so just so that you're aware of that.
- 39:14Speaker 5: And a minute ago you were talking about how someone
- 39:18Speaker 5: invited you into the club across the street. Well, with
- 39:22Speaker 5: powermeew conference and Warrior Course, we do have free ticket scholarships.
- 39:26Speaker 5: You can get those for free on I tickets dot
- 39:29Speaker 5: com as well. There is a selection for that, and
- 39:33Speaker 5: so it's very important to us because we are in
- 39:36Speaker 5: ministry that there is no roadblock to people getting here.
- 39:40Speaker 5: So course modifications and free ticket scholarships, and then you're
- 39:46Speaker 5: welcome to call or email. All of that contact information
- 39:50Speaker 5: again is on those three social media platforms. And then
- 39:54Speaker 5: it's located at Bavir, Missouri, which is about two.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Hours and forty five minutes. It's maybe from Kansas City
- 40:01Speaker 3: and Saint Louis.
- 40:02Speaker 5: If you do like an average, it can be depending
- 40:05Speaker 5: on how fast you drive. It depends major highway all
- 40:08Speaker 5: the way highway. We sit on Highway thirty six and
- 40:11Speaker 5: then it's just four point one miles north of Highway
- 40:14Speaker 5: thirty six. Highway thirty six intersects with Highway sixty three
- 40:17Speaker 5: in north central Missouri. We are thirty minutes south of
- 40:20Speaker 5: Truman State University, and we are an hour north of
- 40:24Speaker 5: the University of Missouri Missoo Tigers, and so that's kind
- 40:27Speaker 5: of where we're at. The course itself is actually sits
- 40:30Speaker 5: right off of a state paved highway, so it's not
- 40:34Speaker 5: going to be hard to get there. Actually, it's very
- 40:37Speaker 5: easy to traverse. You can you can even bring a
- 40:40Speaker 5: small bus if you want to. We can maneuver you.
- 40:44Speaker 5: It's great. This event sets on at least fifteen acres
- 40:49Speaker 5: and the course is about a mile and a half long.
- 40:51Speaker 5: We've increased the length of the course this year. And
- 40:54Speaker 5: then we also have some really cool a really cool
- 40:57Speaker 5: upgrade and addition and to the we have lengthened our
- 41:02Speaker 5: zip line that is already in progress, and so that's
- 41:05Speaker 5: gonna be cool too. And again, yeah, so to give
- 41:09Speaker 5: people an idea on pricing, it's like twenty five dollars
- 41:12Speaker 5: or less to be here.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Okay, so what does that get you?
- 41:14Speaker 5: That gets you if you go ahead and get a
- 41:16Speaker 5: ticket reserved, that's gonna get you a confirmed goodie bag
- 41:19Speaker 5: with some really cool things in it. Plus if you
- 41:22Speaker 5: finish the course, if you're a participant and you finish
- 41:24Speaker 5: the course, I'm gonna go ahead and break the news.
- 41:26Speaker 5: Now you're gonna get a really cool forty ounce stainless
- 41:29Speaker 5: steel tumbler engraved with the Warrior course and finisher on
- 41:33Speaker 5: it and the year. That's gonna be awesome. I think
- 41:36Speaker 5: it was something we settled on to try to keep it.
- 41:38Speaker 5: You know, you hang a medal on the wall, right,
- 41:41Speaker 5: we wanted something you could also use.
- 41:43Speaker 3: It was very valuable to you.
- 41:44Speaker 5: So we wanted the kids to be able to have
- 41:46Speaker 5: something to take to school and cele That's exactly right.
- 41:50Speaker 5: Stay hydrated, and a big shout out to Redmond Real
- 41:54Speaker 5: Salt and Redmond Relight. They are sponsoring some door prices
- 41:58Speaker 5: this year for us and all so they are an
- 42:01Speaker 5: official There are official hydration drink of electrolytes for the course.
- 42:05Speaker 5: And so everybody gets a packet in their goodie bag
- 42:08Speaker 5: of Redmond Relight and then some other things in that
- 42:12Speaker 5: packet as in that goodie bag as well, and okay,
- 42:16Speaker 5: what else is in the ticket? A meal, a catered meal,
- 42:19Speaker 5: a delicious, nutritious, pretty pretty naturally based meal, and refreshments to.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Go along with that.
- 42:27Speaker 5: We also provide light breakfast items, healthy breakfast items, fruit,
- 42:33Speaker 5: you know things. We also make sure that we pay
- 42:35Speaker 5: attention to allergy sensitive items for people let us know.
- 42:39Speaker 5: But typically we try to cover every a lot of
- 42:41Speaker 5: allergy sensitive situations in advance, so there should be something
- 42:45Speaker 5: there for you that you can have if you have
- 42:47Speaker 5: that situation going on. And again that's something you know,
- 42:50Speaker 5: you coach Alex know that we kind of touch on
- 42:52Speaker 5: inside of the Warrior courses. We talk about health and
- 42:55Speaker 5: wellness for men and women in those little segments. But yeah,
- 42:59Speaker 5: all of those are include in the ticket price. And
- 43:02Speaker 5: if you are coming and you need a meal, you
- 43:04Speaker 5: just purchase you just purchase a meal ticket for that day.
- 43:07Speaker 2: And so I think I did want to clarify something.
- 43:11Speaker 2: So so on the site it says that that the
- 43:13Speaker 2: kids are ten and up. Here's the ticket for kids
- 43:15Speaker 2: ten and up, and that is specifically for kids running
- 43:20Speaker 2: the race without their guardian or parent, right, correct. So
- 43:24Speaker 2: so I'm going to go through this with my six
- 43:25Speaker 2: year old, and I'm saying that out loud because well,
- 43:31Speaker 2: one of the reasons I didn't bring my children last
- 43:33Speaker 2: year is you're like, yeah, you know, ten and up
- 43:35Speaker 2: and my youngest was or my old excuse me was
- 43:37Speaker 2: nine at the time, and I thought, okay, well, you know,
- 43:39Speaker 2: I don't want to break any rules. But after going
- 43:41Speaker 2: through the course, as long as your parents there with you,
- 43:44Speaker 2: like I mean, you could go, you could go a
- 43:46Speaker 2: very young age like this is a great So this
- 43:48Speaker 2: is the kind of stuff that I would bring my
- 43:50Speaker 2: boys to and do you know, one at a time
- 43:53Speaker 2: in my backyard. But but it was. It was such
- 43:55Speaker 2: a good experience, such well put together course that I
- 43:58Speaker 2: can't wait to bring both of my boys through it.
- 44:00Speaker 5: Those are extremely kind words. Were just blown away whenever
- 44:04Speaker 5: you said that. Our team is just blown away by
- 44:07Speaker 5: your feedback, and we're just all glory to God because
- 44:10Speaker 5: it's been an incredibly interesting journey to what we're doing.
- 44:15Speaker 3: And so that it's beautiful.
- 44:17Speaker 5: It's honey to the soul to hear good news about
- 44:19Speaker 5: something that's kind of you know, life is hard often
- 44:23Speaker 5: and so it's honey to the soul to hear good feedback.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Well, I want to talk about that a little bit,
- 44:26Speaker 2: and Nate, I like your thoughts on this too. So
- 44:29Speaker 2: anytime I've done anything in the world for the glory
- 44:33Speaker 2: of God, there's usually a roadblock or twenty seven all
- 44:40Speaker 2: the reasons why not to do this thing right? And
- 44:43Speaker 2: you know, from a Christian perspective, we understand that our
- 44:47Speaker 2: battles not against flesh and blood, like we're going to
- 44:50Speaker 2: come up against things that the enemy puts in our
- 44:52Speaker 2: path in order to keep us from doing good things
- 44:54Speaker 2: that are going to make Christ manifest in the world
- 44:57Speaker 2: that's spread his love and his goodness. There there is
- 45:01Speaker 2: a lot of things that have likely come against what
- 45:05Speaker 2: you're doing. And rather than list these out, I'd actually
- 45:08Speaker 2: like to look at the ways that God has helped
- 45:12Speaker 2: your your organization, and your community overcome this one thing.
- 45:16Speaker 2: One thing that keeps obstacle course racist from being a
- 45:19Speaker 2: thing everywhere is a space to do it. That looks
- 45:23Speaker 2: like God provided an amazing space for you guys. That's
- 45:26Speaker 2: that's what we're talking about. Another reason that this is
- 45:30Speaker 2: a thing is is it requires a lot of people.
- 45:32Speaker 2: You know, when I went to the Tough Mutter, they
- 45:34Speaker 2: had they had a very well paid, very large staff
- 45:39Speaker 2: to make all this stuff happen over you know, a
- 45:43Speaker 2: span of time, whether it's people checking people in, whether
- 45:45Speaker 2: it's people monitoring obstacles, whether it's people running extra bags
- 45:49Speaker 2: of ice. You know, like whatever, there was a large
- 45:52Speaker 2: amount of people there to do it, and so that
- 45:55Speaker 2: makes it more expensive. The larger the staff required, the
- 45:58Speaker 2: more expensive things get. And as you can imagine, also
- 46:01Speaker 2: the upkeep upkeep of obstacles like the materials. The zip
- 46:05Speaker 2: line you were talking about, that doesn't just put itself up,
- 46:07Speaker 2: you know, like people have to people have to ratchet
- 46:09Speaker 2: that in and test it. The Lord help them, right.
- 46:13Speaker 2: So so when I came to this course last year,
- 46:16Speaker 2: I was blown away that there was somebody in your
- 46:20Speaker 2: community who was willing to just dedicate his entire land
- 46:24Speaker 2: area to this event to absolute strangers. He doesn't know. Hey,
- 46:28Speaker 2: come on in, come to my place. It's a it's
- 46:30Speaker 2: a great piece of property. There's there's this. We're going
- 46:33Speaker 2: to tear it up like he tore it up on
- 46:36Speaker 2: purpose with a tractor to make muddy pits for people,
- 46:39Speaker 2: you know, like like he he did this. And then
- 46:41Speaker 2: and then I shook hands with and spoke to a
- 46:44Speaker 2: bunch of members I think of your church and surrounding
- 46:47Speaker 2: community who were just volunteering, who were just there to
- 46:50Speaker 2: make sure this this thing operated well. So so I'd
- 46:53Speaker 2: love to hear from from you, Nate and you Melanie,
- 46:56Speaker 2: what what is the atmosphere of this warrior course, like
- 47:01Speaker 2: with regard to volunteers the place, I don't know, I
- 47:05Speaker 2: don't know who all these people are, but I know
- 47:07Speaker 2: that they're there for a very powerful reason and because
- 47:11Speaker 2: they believe in what's going on. So so either either
- 47:14Speaker 2: one of you what's it like, like who's coming and
- 47:17Speaker 2: why are they there? And how how did how did
- 47:20Speaker 2: that come about?
- 47:21Speaker 5: So I can open it up and then Nathan can finish.
- 47:24Speaker 5: And so we have quite a few people in our congregation.
- 47:30Speaker 5: We are from all sorts of towns in our congregation
- 47:33Speaker 5: number one, and it's not just one particular town. And
- 47:36Speaker 5: so that is the beautiful thing about this is that
- 47:39Speaker 5: we're all from different areas. And that's the beautiful thing
- 47:42Speaker 5: about the Kingdom, right is that we are not one
- 47:44Speaker 5: particular silo. And so it's amazing and so but it
- 47:50Speaker 5: did start with about three to four people in our congregation,
- 47:53Speaker 5: again we're all from different towns, and then it blossomed
- 47:56Speaker 5: into something where our leadership team is composed of individual
- 48:00Speaker 5: from about four different congregations in the region, and then
- 48:04Speaker 5: we just kind of branch out from there, and then
- 48:06Speaker 5: we also include people who have a heart for what
- 48:09Speaker 5: we're doing, but maybe don't go to church with any
- 48:12Speaker 5: of us, and they are wanting to learn, and so
- 48:14Speaker 5: maybe they maybe they want to be at a station,
- 48:17Speaker 5: an obstacle station, and they want to help encourage, et cetera,
- 48:20Speaker 5: and get involved in that manner. And yes, everybody on
- 48:24Speaker 5: the team, everybody is one hundred percent volunteer status. I
- 48:28Speaker 5: know that sounds really crazy when you start talking about
- 48:30Speaker 5: ministry and organized nonprofits, et cetera. But yes, we are
- 48:35Speaker 5: all unpaid everybody. And so but what we try to
- 48:40Speaker 5: do as a as an umbrella organization is we try
- 48:42Speaker 5: to you know, we try to reward them. So our
- 48:45Speaker 5: volunteers they come and they eat free and they get
- 48:48Speaker 5: in for free.
- 48:49Speaker 3: So we just like we believe that a.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Laborer should be rewarded for their work and their efforts, like.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Jesus says, and so that's that's.
- 48:57Speaker 5: Kind of where we get our people and how get
- 49:00Speaker 5: our people, and they just we.
- 49:01Speaker 3: Do a lot of praying.
- 49:03Speaker 5: We pray so much behind the scenes and throughout the year,
- 49:08Speaker 5: days and weeks and months, and we're just continuing to
- 49:11Speaker 5: smother everything we do in prayer and say God, if
- 49:15Speaker 5: this is what you want us to do, please please
- 49:18Speaker 5: just provide, and we will step in faith even when
- 49:21Speaker 5: we don't see the answer right in front of us.
- 49:24Speaker 5: And God has always provided through thick and through thin,
- 49:29Speaker 5: and so but yes, we get we get our volunteers.
- 49:33Speaker 5: We call and we ask and they say yes. And
- 49:36Speaker 5: sometimes all it takes is just a phone call or
- 49:38Speaker 5: a text or an email and say hey, would you
- 49:40Speaker 5: be willing.
- 49:40Speaker 3: To do this?
- 49:40Speaker 5: And they're like, yeah, I'd love to be a part
- 49:42Speaker 5: of that. So, Nathan, do you have anything to add
- 49:45Speaker 5: to that?
- 49:46Speaker 6: Well, I'm not going to pretend like I know anything
- 49:48Speaker 6: and what's going on behind the scenes, Melanie definitely those.
- 49:53Speaker 4: All of that for sure.
- 49:54Speaker 6: But I would just say that what I've seen over
- 49:57Speaker 6: and over again in different places we have lived is
- 49:59Speaker 6: when God is at work, Uh, that's exciting, I mean,
- 50:02Speaker 6: and hopefully I mean it should be right, it should
- 50:05Speaker 6: be exciting to other believers and and uh, and so
- 50:08Speaker 6: you know, the volunteers I've rubbed shoulders with there have
- 50:11Speaker 6: have all been very excited about seeing the kids, you know,
- 50:15Speaker 6: helping them through the os. You know some of them,
- 50:17Speaker 6: you know they need some help. And so I think
- 50:20Speaker 6: there was one older Joe, and I I kind of
- 50:21Speaker 6: felt bad. At what obstacle he was at. He was
- 50:23Speaker 6: having to use a lot of it upper body street home,
- 50:26Speaker 6: some of these some of these kids. But yeah, he
- 50:28Speaker 6: was happy to do it right and he was getting
- 50:30Speaker 6: in there and being helpful and and so so yeah,
- 50:34Speaker 6: it's uh, it's been a volunteers are great there, sure
- 50:38Speaker 6: m H.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Spoken as one who's there.
- 50:42Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely, We We so appreciate his partnership and participation
- 50:46Speaker 5: because his services and his skill set are just we
- 50:51Speaker 5: just believe are so needed. That's why it's so important
- 50:53Speaker 5: to us to partner with Christian counselors. Again, back to
- 50:58Speaker 5: giving access to youth and adults of godly resources, showing
- 51:04Speaker 5: them that they can do things through the Kingdom that
- 51:07Speaker 5: and they don't have to go to a worldly resource.
- 51:11Speaker 5: They don't because that's not the ultimate answer, and it
- 51:14Speaker 5: just leads them down a path of more chaos and
- 51:16Speaker 5: confusion and no resolution. And so that's why Nathan and
- 51:21Speaker 5: his skill set and resources are so important to us.
- 51:25Speaker 2: That's oak rings Christian counseling. Is that right, Nate, That's right, yeah, awesome.
- 51:30Speaker 2: We've got a link for your counseling practice as well
- 51:34Speaker 2: in the show notes. So as we wrap up here.
