- 0:51We never, we never splintered. We stayed together.
- 0:54We are still two balls with the clutch situations.
- 0:57They found the way today. I'm so proud, so proud to be
- 0:59their coach. You seem to be getting a little
- 1:01emotional? Why?
- 1:04It's my school? This is home.
- 1:08That's it. If somebody would have told you
- 1:11two weeks ago that you would be the head coach of this program,
- 1:14you would knock off your rival and you'd be going bowling what
- 1:17would you have told them? I don't believe you.
- 1:20Kiss me, pinch me, welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast.
- 1:27I'm Curtis Wilson. I'm Brian sigla, buddy.
- 1:31JC was emotional. After that one, buddy.
- 1:37We were emotional after that one, man.
- 1:40Yeah. Oh my God if you are a Virginia
- 1:43Tech fan and you did not listen to that post game.
- 1:47After the 29:24 went to hold onto the cup and
- 1:50Charlottesville. I don't know what to say because
- 1:57I think that's the way most of us feel.
- 2:00About Virginia Tech football. Yep.
- 2:03It's, you know, I listen to it again and yeah, I got a little
- 2:08allergies going, but it's a little, it's, as again, hear him
- 2:13say this is my school. Yep.
- 2:19This is home. It definitely hit different and
- 2:24I mean, you you can see how much it means.
- 2:29And I think that's the big thing that, you know, we kind of get
- 2:33out there and that we want to that makes us unique and makes
- 2:37being a part of this fan base unique.
- 2:39Is that when somebody really cares, you see it?
- 2:43Yes, you did. And p.m. people that have been a
- 2:45part of it, they feel it and they show it.
- 2:48And you can see that all over JC's face.
- 2:51And we've seen it since, you know, he was named interim, head
- 2:54coach. I mean, it's been it's been
- 2:56emotional for him to be in this position and it definitely I
- 3:02think was was big for him to go out capture win against a rival
- 3:08and get a team that a lot of people are written off to a bowl
- 3:13game, give those seniors and those guys that are stepping
- 3:16away from the program out of the season, one more chance to go
- 3:19out there together and get it done.
- 3:21Done. So, that's big you.
- 3:23Damn right. It is.
- 3:23And it's, and it was such an emotional game of highs and lows
- 3:28good, and bad's. And when you come out with the
- 3:31win and then hearing that and you said it.
- 3:35Yeah. When you're connected to this
- 3:37program, it's different in it hits different.
- 3:41And when you're someone of a higher age, whose follow the
- 3:44program 20-plus years, you remember the name?
- 3:47JC price. We Were Young adolescents when
- 3:51he played for this team. Yep, I swear to God.
- 3:56Robbie Compton's, his brother somehow.
- 3:58I don't know, I just did. Yeah, yeah, yeah, go back and
- 4:03check out the going camping. Yeah, episode with Robert
- 4:06Compton and see if you don't see some similarities between our
- 4:10good buddy and JC price. They're so what it was and it's
- 4:16not just, you know, facial recognition, it's Kind of the
- 4:19mannerisms how they talk. I mean, there's a whole lot of
- 4:22things there that that, that are similarities.
- 4:24So shout out to Robbie, come to there.
- 4:28He might be listening tonight. He might not depends on.
- 4:31If then his part of North Carolina, he got internet
- 4:35signal. If it's a cloudy night.
- 4:37Yeah, it is the satellite internet bringing in enough
- 4:41juice for into stream. This bad boy.
- 4:45We don't know. Well y'all, of course we are
- 4:48going to talk about The game we are going to talk about the
- 4:51coaching Domino's that held today in a little while.
- 4:54We're going to talk about our picks, good weekends for both of
- 4:57us but let's first of all, I had to wear this shirt tonight.
- 5:02I will state the Commonwealth cup stays home and brown.
- 5:08We're going to start with the defense and, you know, Brown
- 5:12wrote it out here, on our notes, it was a tale of two halves.
- 5:17And let's start first half, literally the worst of times.
- 5:21And then the best of times, I mean, in the first half, they
- 5:27look like an Unstoppable Force, they were going on drives.
- 5:30They were scorned, they put Twenty One points up in the
- 5:32first half. If you had told me or Brian.
- 5:36We both put the game in the 30s. If you told us after the first
- 5:40half, this game was going to end in the 20s.
- 5:42I would have said you you're out of your damn mind, we can't stop
- 5:46them. They Can't stop us.
- 5:47It's going to be a race to probably 38 or 40.
- 5:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:52I mean, I tweeted towards the end of the first half.
- 5:54I was like, you know, hope you all took the over, but it makes
- 5:59the under yeah points. Who would have thought.
- 6:04I mean, the way things were going, I was like, yeah I know
- 6:07Pace about Midway through the second quarter kind of slow down
- 6:10a little bit points for still being scored, but the pace of
- 6:13them slow down and then as we got into the second half Points
- 6:18are hard to come by and but let's look a little bit more
- 6:22about UVA offense. I'll be Armstrong was absolutely
- 6:25dealing in the first half. Yes.
- 6:28He he was hitting all of his spots, guys were open.
- 6:32Guys were getting away from coverages.
- 6:35Guys were exploiting some mismatches, particularly Jelani
- 6:40Woods. He was dominating and yeah he
- 6:45was he was Creating some really bad matchups for us in the
- 6:50secondary. The one that stands out is the
- 6:55one that he scored the touchdown on Tisdale was late.
- 6:59Getting out there covering strong made a ol, a business
- 7:04decision, Tuesday will checked up.
- 7:06It was definitely a nobody wanted.
- 7:09A part of woods going full steam into the end zone.
- 7:12Now, they did not in. That was one of them where I
- 7:14think this is a fanbase. We saw that.
- 7:17Early on, you know, when that play happened, you know, that
- 7:22was their first score of the game.
- 7:24Just, it felt like effort, right?
- 7:28It felt like the effort on that particular play was just gone
- 7:31because Tisdale had an angle and if Tisdale goes at full speed,
- 7:35we know, Tisdale can go out. I think he knocks him out short
- 7:39order. He is very close.
- 7:40Its plant have to reheat after reach it out at a pretty epic
- 7:43way. Yeah, and strong the same way he
- 7:46was going to have Make the play. And it was probably going to be
- 7:49a collision If he if he gets the perfect tackle he probably stops
- 7:53him. But I think that early on.
- 7:56I think us as fans we saw and I was just like, man this this
- 8:01they don't look fired up, they don't look in it.
- 8:04And it showed in the in the you know, more the first quarter as
- 8:09we got into the second quarter, it started changing a little
- 8:13bit, right? I mean, you know, The big piece
- 8:18you can say is that interception that happened in the second
- 8:24quarter. You know we're down they are
- 8:27driving and it looks like we're about to go down two scores and
- 8:31then all of a sudden, you know, Take a daily makes one hell of a
- 8:41play to get that interception. Yep, he made a hell of a play
- 8:47there. I'll Tell You artist did a good
- 8:50job of redirecting on that which created the situation where
- 8:54Armstrong had to throw it wider than he wanted to daily stepped
- 8:58up, made play. And now, you know, what was
- 9:02looking like a situation, Those About to get dire.
- 9:05You're now we're able to settle down a little bit.
- 9:10Bring things back into kind of more of that dog fight that we
- 9:13were looking to get into instead of the potential.
- 9:18Your greatest show on Turf that they were trying to pull in the
- 9:20first quarter in early in the second quarter there.
- 9:23Yeah, early in the second quarter specially first quarter
- 9:25going into the second quarter. We could not get off the field,
- 9:29we can, I stop them third, they got in the Red Zone, was a
- 9:32guaranteed touchdown, but something Brian that.
- 9:36You had mentioned in. This is where I'm going to kind
- 9:38of bring up. The first of our points were
- 9:42getting back to the coverage that has shown success.
- 9:45Cover Through the quarters, makes it a little man here and
- 9:48there. Their drives in the first half
- 9:51were 10, 11, 10, and 6. That is a even the six of six
- 9:56players. Usually your average drive,
- 9:58right? So when you're throwing in six,
- 10:01to eight, is usually your average truck.
- 10:03When Brian always talks about, you want them to, you want them
- 10:08to have to drive the field. Something, you always talk about
- 10:11getting the right. Coverage has forces them to do
- 10:14that. And what it force in that second
- 10:16quarter was they were at play 11.
- 10:20When he threw that pick. And if y'all remember that was
- 10:24that wasn't like we're their friends on.
- 10:26That was about at the 30-yard line.
- 10:28Yep. It wasn't a super long drive.
- 10:32They were having a deep Dunk Dunk in a ventually.
- 10:35Armstrong made the mistake. And when that happened, yes,
- 10:39they scored one more time. but the juice was back there on the
- 10:44defense and defense, I think, It was that moment of Faith, right?
- 10:50It was that moment where they said, all right.
- 10:51Well, we do things the right way.
- 10:53We can stop this team. They're not, they're not just
- 10:56going to be able to go up and down the field.
- 10:57On this all game, the confidence level shifted.
- 11:00Their, you know, we still had an opening drive in the in the next
- 11:05quarter, where the appoints were surrendered.
- 11:07But overall, it seemed like a switch was flipped there where
- 11:12they were in a completely different mindset going forward.
- 11:15So, that was that was big from an emotional standpoint.
- 11:18I think for that, Defense just showing hey, you know, we can do
- 11:23this. Let's let's do the right things.
- 11:25Let's play with intensity let's not wait on them.
- 11:30And I think that was the big problem is that we were in some
- 11:32decent coverage is for what they were doing, but we were waiting,
- 11:36we are reacting instead of trusting the Reeds and and kind
- 11:41of forcing the issue and some of that had to do with bringing a
- 11:44little bit more pressure later in the game, which made
- 11:48Armstrong after Get rid of the ball quicker which meant that we
- 11:51could drive on the ball a lot quicker.
- 11:52Yeah. And I think those things those
- 11:57things are what helped. And you know the I think the big
- 12:02thing is that in the first half we struggled to get off the
- 12:04field on third down or bow up in the red zone and that's kind of
- 12:08where we're things shifted. A little bit for us.
- 12:11Going into the second half because we started to be a lot
- 12:14better. Getting off the field.
- 12:16Yep, they come out, they do Drive the field.
- 12:19Kick a field goal or there it is.
- 12:21Right there. Third down stop.
- 12:23They were in the Red Zone when that happened before.
- 12:26So fuel gold. You pick them off, they did get
- 12:29you a drive and got a touchdown but now you've shown more and
- 12:34more can we can stop them? That was the last points
- 12:37Virginia would score. Yep.
- 12:39If you told anybody buying Brian that that at it exactly 12
- 12:46minutes 30 seconds in the third quarter.
- 12:49You Okay, is not scoring another point.
- 12:52Do you have made out that I would have said you were full of
- 12:55shit so they don't and that's going to come up later.
- 13:00Yes. Oh yes.
- 13:04Okay. On Wednesday night.
- 13:17We've got to start making up the coverage is underneath, right?
- 13:20Yep. Thank the adjustments were made
- 13:22at half-time in the looks underneath were different.
- 13:26And Armstrong, you know, it wasn't Deacon donkey was having
- 13:32to double clutch. He took a sack that hurt his
- 13:36ankle and he was out for exactly just about a whole drive but
- 13:42after that ankle he was, he was not himself.
- 13:46You could tell he could not get any force behind his balls.
- 13:50Yeah. And it wasn't just the force of
- 13:51on the bottom and that's one thing he was still able to send
- 13:55the ball. Well, it It wasn't quite to his
- 13:57normal standard. But the big thing is that he
- 14:01could not escape the pocket to extend plays to give those
- 14:05receivers some time to get away from those initial drops, or
- 14:09from those initial coverages in man, and I think that's where
- 14:12things kind of went into our favor because we were able to
- 14:16from a secondary standpoint, be full-on in attack mode every
- 14:20snap. Yeah, because we weren't
- 14:22concerned about the scramble drill where we had to keep
- 14:25running with guys for 5 seconds or more.
- 14:28One thing to you, made a note of this.
- 14:31His balls were not flying off. He does not have the biggest
- 14:34one, but he has a solid arm and you can tell when they're out of
- 14:38shotgun, he drops back about 3 to 4 yards.
- 14:41So, even a 10-yard play Down field as a 20-yard pass now, and
- 14:46you can just tell you talk about them breaking on the ball.
- 14:49Those balls were not getting there as quick for Christmas.
- 14:52So and he's definitely more of a.
- 14:53He throws based on timing, right?
- 14:55He's a very much a timing timing quarterback.
- 14:59So anything that's impacting that timing is going to impact
- 15:02the result. And we saw how much that was
- 15:05impacted. And like I said, that that kind
- 15:07of fed into how we were playing on defense because we knew that
- 15:11we could attack those in khutbah krauts attack.
- 15:15Those out cutting routes of attack the hitches because we
- 15:18knew that the ball wasn't always going to get there as long.
- 15:21As we weren't interfering and as long as we tried to make the
- 15:24tackle, which tackling was a up and down aspect of this game.
- 15:31There were there were times where it was okay and there was
- 15:33times where we had three guys, get truck by Brandon Armstrong
- 15:36going into the end zone. We're probably will not hair
- 15:39out. There were times where we had
- 15:41tackles for loss and they got positive gains in so many times
- 15:46this year. Brian, when we saw that happen,
- 15:48Syracuse, Notre Dame. West Virginia, what happened?
- 15:54We lost the game. We were giving them extra
- 15:57opportunities tip in this week we didn't in I just get
- 16:06frustrated because I love Tamara Connor.
- 16:09For Connor might be definitely a top three player on the team I
- 16:14love. And there are times where Jamari
- 16:16perfect form pops the crap out of people, right?
- 16:19Dip. And then there's other times for
- 16:22tomorrow. If it gets all technique, I'm
- 16:24just trying to lay the wood he misses, or it's a it's not a
- 16:28good enough hit there, he did that a couple times yesterday
- 16:31end. I think to Morgan be successful
- 16:35at the next level, but he's got to clean that up.
- 16:38He's got to, he's got to clean that up.
- 16:41And I mean, he's probably going to be there, probably going to
- 16:45play him as like a Inside outside strong safety.
- 16:52I think he's well, I think he could play think.
- 16:54So, I think it probably play a will linebacker if you have an
- 16:57opinion and pounds, and I mean, in other guys, had had some,
- 17:04some questionable, we talked about Dorian in the first half,
- 17:07but second half Orion, strong looked like every bit of the
- 17:13player. He was on his best.
- 17:14Best game in that second half. Breaking own balls, coming up
- 17:19and making plays tactile be as aggressive.
- 17:22Tackling in the second half as I've seen him the entire time.
- 17:26He's been a hokey and, you know, after you see Olay against
- 17:30Jelani Woods in the first half and then you get that type of
- 17:32player coming out in the second half that, that's a pretty big
- 17:37switch, right? And Tay daily.
- 17:39And I know we talked about his pic, but teh daily.
- 17:43Probably had his most impressive game as a hokey as well.
- 17:45Well, he seemed to be in on just about Every play right in some
- 17:50way, shape, or form, whether making tackles, I mean, he led
- 17:52the team yesterday with nine had to pass deflections.
- 17:55Obviously, the one at the end of the game.
- 17:57Yep. Was the biggest had the pick,
- 18:02but it just seemed like 17 was everywhere and you know, for a
- 18:07guy liked a daily, I don't think Tay.
- 18:10I want to say that it Vandy the time he was there.
- 18:14They never went to a ball, saw him.
- 18:16Put that up on Twitter like Bowl.
- 18:17With the opinion first for guys, like that.
- 18:21Getting that sixth win. Huge, right?
- 18:24Because lutely your first bowl game and I wished a daily had
- 18:31another year or two because he, you can just see.
- 18:35He's starting to get his footing in the way he plays.
- 18:40Yeah. I mean the only, the only
- 18:41downside of if he did have another year, would that matter
- 18:44with potentially switching schemes with that, with that
- 18:47kind of set him back to kind of where he was coming in.
- 18:51So it's got its kind of a, you know, a bad situation either way
- 18:55you slice it there for him. Definitely wish he could be a
- 18:57hokie another year because he definitely showed me.
- 19:00Nothing this year, overall, he's had some some good games, some
- 19:04some less than good games but he's definitely rounding into
- 19:06form when it counts here and that's that's pretty big.
- 19:10So good on Te'o. It was sad that we ended up not
- 19:14having him for the majority of the Miami game.
- 19:17Yes. And you know, we saw what
- 19:20happened in that game so yeah, he was definitely a difference,
- 19:23he would have been a Difference Maker in that game and he got
- 19:25ejected for that you know basically just hit.
- 19:29Let's not get into the The personal foul targeting
- 19:32penalties again, that we could do a whole episode on that.
- 19:34But again, I talked about mention of everywhere and you
- 19:39saw him in the Run game and they did not have a run game.
- 19:41They had 76 charged about three yards, a carry we mentioned it
- 19:46like they can't have a run game their longest run.
- 19:49I think was Armstrong Scramble for the touchdown.
- 19:52The running backs, didn't break 10.
- 19:55Neither was getting true first down.
- 19:58Yeah. And that's what you love to see
- 20:00in that, in that being more, or less a weakness of our defense,
- 20:04on the whole for the year, having that type of outing
- 20:07against your Rivals, pretty big. Because it didn't let, we didn't
- 20:11let the running game impact the game.
- 20:13Like we said, you got to make sure that you don't let a
- 20:16strength become a weakness or weakness, become a strength for
- 20:19the other team and we didn't do that.
- 20:21We kept the running game in check And we're like if you're
- 20:26going to be this, you're going to be just throwing the football
- 20:28game. And the big thing is that once
- 20:31once they didn't have a running game and once Armstrong was
- 20:33starting to struggle in the second half.
- 20:36They had absolutely zero. Counterpunch zero.
- 20:39Nothing none. And you know, the other thing
- 20:44was they took some shots downfield, but if you watch them
- 20:47play this year, They weren't hitting on much downfield,
- 20:51right? It wasn't just pop, pop
- 20:54touchdown. Again, forcing them to drive and
- 20:58there's a desk the other thing, right?
- 21:00Once they couldn't count on continuously hit deep balls and
- 21:04then you was gonna be dinking, dunk, you know, they had a
- 21:07couple good screenplays, you know, the big one was they ran
- 21:10at Kiton, Thompson trick play and it looked like it was going
- 21:13to be good and then that ball got knocked out Norrell Pollard
- 21:17jumps on it. Not be about it then jumped on
- 21:20it. That I mean, the fact that he's
- 21:22that far down the field making that play to begin with is
- 21:24impressive, then he gets on the ball to very true.
- 21:28So it was almost like for them. You know, they didn't have much
- 21:33of a run game all year, but they'd always been able to go
- 21:35downfield and when we kind of took that away from them and
- 21:39then you like like they didn't know what else to do.
- 21:43They didn't know what else to do and it showed a lot.
- 21:47Now I will say this We mentioned Chianti Thompson, Jelani Woods
- 21:53weeks, we did not mention, Billy company had a great game, eight
- 21:56catches 102 yards. I mean, I don't think it's his
- 22:01career game but might be as game of the year, but all Brawn, he
- 22:09he got pop b, a daily and took the Browns to the Super Bowl.
- 22:15All right? You played it, a Collegiate
- 22:17level, you know what happens? But what it's like to hit and
- 22:23then you see it. It's like, I know what caused
- 22:25that he hit you really hard, and I mean, I don't think it changes
- 22:32the momentum, just a funny moment in the game when you see
- 22:35it happen. It's got to be talked about
- 22:37because I mean, you don't see it everyday, you don't see it every
- 22:41day, you know, hear about it. You hear about it.
- 22:46Like oh yeah, yeah, yeah. You did what.
- 22:52But this was visibly seen. Yeah, poor.
- 22:56Poor equipment managers. I would just if you want to and
- 23:04you realize, hey, I need to be cleaned up.
- 23:05No, you're good. No man, not all good.
- 23:09You can take that home with you, we thanks for those.
- 23:13Thanks thankfulness. Will write that one off.
- 23:18Let's go one last thing on the defense.
- 23:21The file Drive. They get it down inside the red
- 23:24zone. I'm sure you were like me Ron.
- 23:27I'm sure you were going through my head.
- 23:29Yes, we've this had, we've had some, we've had one red zone.
- 23:32Up we've had with much better second half but you just had
- 23:36this. I had to pit in my stomach like
- 23:38not this. Oh I knew we were going to have
- 23:40to score a touchdown with with 30 seconds left to win that game
- 23:44at that point, or at least kick a field goal.
- 23:46Sorry, we're going to be down to, at least for me down to and
- 23:50then third down and we'd gotten us, we've gotten them behind the
- 23:54sticks. Yes, third and seven from the
- 23:58eight, you know, we were like okay well we're going to force
- 24:02them to do something. They're going to try to get at
- 24:04least half of this yardage, right?
- 24:06If they don't go to the end zone there at least try to get half
- 24:08this yardage. No no.
- 24:11Ladies and gentlemen, they do. The dumbest situational play
- 24:18call. I've ever seen and I've watched,
- 24:22Brad cornelison called offense for six years.
- 24:26Yes we did. They went for a thick six.
- 24:30Throw that to an but not anything.
- 24:33Six, a throwback where you throw it to the offensive tackle, we
- 24:38are behind the line of scrimmage, no, six yards behind
- 24:41the line of scrimmage. Yeah, he caught it at the set of
- 24:45all those ten yard. He called it.
- 24:46The 17 Lord. Card of the 17.
- 24:51So your your grand play of getting at least five yards.
- 24:57Positive yardage is to start 10 yards behind the line of
- 25:01scrimmage with like your third slowest player on the field.
- 25:07And not only that you're calling that type of play.
- 25:10When you didn't check to see what coverage were in, we're in
- 25:13damn Zone coverage. Dorian is just standing there
- 25:17looking at the action going on in front of him.
- 25:21So he sees this from a mile away, and is there to make a
- 25:24tackle five yards by the five or six yards behind the line of
- 25:28scrimmage? It was a five.
- 25:29It was a six yard loss. He did not hesitate.
- 25:32He went right after he got physical, he went right after
- 25:34Big Boy's legs and he fell. And my only thought was where
- 25:41they were on the field, right? Brian, we talked about
- 25:43Armstrong's ankle, right being hurt.
- 25:46Yep, they were at the what they could get to the to there, with
- 25:52the nine, right? Eight or nine, they were at the
- 25:56eight. It was third and 7 from the
- 25:57eighth. They have a five-yard shotgun.
- 25:59Snapples a 3-yard drop. His ankles hurt, he's having to
- 26:04push it 15 or 20 yards in the end zone because they don't have
- 26:07anything under Center will roll out, whatever way he was going
- 26:11as far as like, if they were going to.
- 26:12Okay, let's, let's do a Sprint option, right?
- 26:14That's where the play has to go because he can't cut back
- 26:17because his ankles done. I think they were just trying to
- 26:21say, if we can fool with this. He'll get to like the five and
- 26:25then we can put everything in the Playbook.
- 26:27But again, you can I tell you, can I tell you why?
- 26:31This is Has done though. Can I tell you exactly 100%?
- 26:34Why this is dumb because Even if you don't use a Jelani Woods at
- 26:40this situation, you have three other tight ends that you can
- 26:43put on the field and leak them out.
- 26:46And you know what? You can do to a tight end that
- 26:47you can't do to your damn offensive tackle.
- 26:50You can throw a screen forward, a forward pass where he catches
- 26:54it, like a yard behind the line of scrimmage and then by the
- 26:57time he comes up, he's at least getting something.
- 27:01Instead of throwing it to your tackle, almost 10 yards behind
- 27:05the line of scrimmage because you can't throw it Forward,
- 27:08because he's a freaking tackle. Brian, loves offensive lineman
- 27:13but this is like the day, it's like you're done, right?
- 27:16Like this made, you I instantly went to The Varsity Blues.
- 27:21Billy Bob trying to do the fricking Hook and Ladder.
- 27:24This ain't the damn play rundown feel and act like I'm lost, is
- 27:27it? Yes, this is that play.
- 27:30And it happened exactly how it Happened in practice.
- 27:32It did not happen, how it was drawn up in the friggin final
- 27:35game. It happened, like it happened in
- 27:37practice clown show, except he caught the ball.
- 27:42And yeah. Alright.
- 27:44So defense stand, 2925, we've got to look at the offense
- 27:51though, because that was We produced he's office produced
- 28:00even with one of the most counterproductive game plans and
- 28:04play calling I have ever seen. I mean, like, like you want to
- 28:09get hit someone. It was so dumb.
- 28:12This, I mean, as bad as the, the one call that that OC had for
- 28:17UVA, I mean, corn had about 10 or 15 of them made in this game
- 28:22that were not quite as questionable, but we're
- 28:26certainly, Awful and let's start with the decision to Against All
- 28:33Odds and against whatever. The flow of the game was keep
- 28:38throwing. Connor, blumrich in the game to
- 28:42stop. What was otherwise, a productive
- 28:44drive and this is no knock on blumberg.
- 28:46Lumbering did with blumberg does?
- 28:48Yeah, but when you're, when you're, when you got a hot hand,
- 28:52you got to stop with the rotating.
- 28:53You got to just ride it and there were three hot.
- 28:56Hands. There were three of them Rahim
- 28:59Black Shear cracks, and Burmeister, and Taylor Robinson.
- 29:04I mean, those guys single-handedly on the offense,
- 29:09won this game. And I mean, Rahim Blackshear, 18
- 29:13carats 169 almost nine and a half yards, he broke a
- 29:1750-yarder, and there was a, there was a point where he was
- 29:22averaging over eleven a carry and for some reason, we kept
- 29:25running Connor, blumberg into the line of scrimmage.
- 29:28Well, yeah, we had, I'm like what are we doing?
- 29:31Because Rahim, blacks year was having a career day.
- 29:33He had a career day regardless. Like, he could have been like,
- 29:37close to 250 yards and we just wrote him the whole game.
- 29:40If we did. Yeah.
- 29:41Oregon and carries one more. Got ten carries.
- 29:44You imagine given five of those to him' and five more to
- 29:46Malachi. We probably could have broke
- 29:49three. 80 on the ground naughty and again, we're not we're not
- 29:52knocking blumberg, I think there were situations where we're
- 29:55putting blumberg in the game made sense.
- 29:58Well, but but a lot of times it was it was Drive killing
- 30:01situations. It was stupid.
- 30:03That's why I said it was so counterproductive.
- 30:05And with him yesterday, Braun, it was everything, right?
- 30:09It was inside Zone. It was outside Zone.
- 30:11It was His decision-making. What some of the stuff he did
- 30:16yesterday? I know UVA has a porous offense.
- 30:19We saw this couple weeks ago against you, when he saw a hole,
- 30:23he made a cut, he did not hesitate, and he hit It reminded
- 30:28me of Khalil Herbert so much, it reminded me of how also bad the
- 30:34game plan was against Miami that you gave this guy, five carries
- 30:37in the whole game. Yeah, you know, I know we're
- 30:43talking about UVA but God that was dumb, but I mean he had a
- 30:47day I am, I am beyond thrilled that I talk this guy up for two
- 30:54years and now they finally gave him some volume.
- 30:58He's showing out and not they not just because I look smart
- 31:03because I knew I knew he was capable of it, you know, on
- 31:06tape. I just we needed to see see It
- 31:10with enough volume and with enough effort and with enough
- 31:13focus and I think some of it was on him and he focused in it and
- 31:18I think that that's been the big difference.
- 31:21Can I say this about Raheem Blackshear?
- 31:23And it tells you how? Again?
- 31:25It's the question will be coaching staff.
- 31:27That's leaving you only yard she has in 12 games this year.
- 31:32Tub in 711 on the ground. 711 and guess what?
- 31:38Brian is. We start looking through here.
- 31:41Literally it's taken the Georgia Tech game in the last couple
- 31:48weeks. In Syracuse.
- 31:52He got 80. 81 17, 169. You got and got all those snow
- 32:00carries against Miami and um, you said 52 carries against
- 32:04Miami. He had.
- 32:05Oh, sorry. I was, I was giving corn more
- 32:09more benefit of the doubt that he deserve their aid.
- 32:12Again, I don't mean seven again here.
- 32:16Why? He's not getting at least 15 a
- 32:18game is it's mind-boggling. It's absolutely and it's why
- 32:23that guy in the booth is going to be a high school coach next
- 32:26year, at best. The bad thing is that a lot of
- 32:29this was a game Flow. I mean, West Virginia is
- 32:32probably the only game game flow wise And maybe, maybe pit that
- 32:38he should at that. He figures to be out of the game
- 32:40plan by halftime. Well, hold on, what about the
- 32:43West Virginia? When we turn the ball over deep
- 32:45in territory couple times, They have come off that like right
- 32:50there, you're like okay well we don't need to necessarily pass.
- 32:53We're down here, use your bread and butter let's move, not like
- 32:56grass. Let's talk about Braxton next
- 33:00because again with him, you know, Definitely probably his
- 33:06best overall game as a hokie. Maybe last year was a little bit
- 33:09better passing laws, but 141, through the air with a touchdown
- 33:136 of 14, that's not a pretty stat.
- 33:16But when you're sitting some bombs downfield, it helps but 12
- 33:20for 115 and that's 70 yard run. Yep, he had the options.
- 33:27When he had the options, he kept some and when he kept some, it
- 33:32kept them off balance. He knew what he was doing.
- 33:35You'd see him read it. He pull it.
- 33:38He take the angle. He knew exactly.
- 33:40He ran smart here in various what a lot of those read
- 33:43options. and if you feel like if you were giving him a little bit
- 33:49more of the keys earlier in the season, you probably could have
- 33:51saw some more this now I know kids been beat up and Some of
- 33:58that is on corn, some of that is on just flow of the game.
- 34:04I mean shit, shit happens, but most of the time when he went
- 34:10when he got injured, it wasn't on a design keeper.
- 34:13No. So he, I think what really sucks
- 34:19for us as fans is. You saw him some of those, some
- 34:23of those Reeds when he pull it. He essentially was looking to
- 34:29get yards and get out of bounds, right?
- 34:32When he's, when he saw the players coming, I'm going to get
- 34:34eight yards on a live to fight another day.
- 34:36You imagine doing that. In some of the games, we lost in
- 34:38some of the games were close to this year, like the Richmond
- 34:41game, or even the Carolina game, what we're learning more and
- 34:44more every day that he wasn't given the option to read the
- 34:48Carolina game, could have been a whole freaking 3510 game, if
- 34:52they would have gave him those options and it sucks for him
- 34:56because he Limited has sir but you know he did hit some
- 35:00beautiful balls down field and I tell you the prettiest was that
- 35:05slot host to Taylor Robinson. Yep.
- 35:12So you had a step Braxton, put it right in the basket.
- 35:15Touchdown easy. And Tay had a heck of a day as
- 35:19well. Take only three receptions for
- 35:2189 yards, including the 61 yards for the touchdown, but they ran
- 35:25a little Blacksburg. Little little little little
- 35:29little Zone read right little fake to reverse Braxton going
- 35:34Braxton. Looks like he has good hands.
- 35:36Practicing 61 200, a little wiggle, I think practicing
- 35:39should go ahead and learn how to catch the ball more might help
- 35:42them out. But.
- 35:47With no Trey Turner holding him out for precautionary reasons in
- 35:53the offensive game plan. Yep.
- 35:56Hey Robin. Listen kind of showed me.
- 36:00He's going to be number one next year unless the next coaching
- 36:05staff kicks him out if they do they're idiots and we will go
- 36:08ahead and say that right now. He's a number one next year
- 36:12because I think he can go XY and Even.
- 36:18In his things he can do in the slot.
- 36:21He gives you kind of that piece where we can put Tay anywhere
- 36:24anytime. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:28He's kind of that slot that you can line up anywhere.
- 36:30I mean, he's most natural in the slot position, but you can still
- 36:32line him up outside. You're not going to send him on,
- 36:37you know, a ton of Midfield feeds or anything like that.
- 36:42That's not his game but opposed and anything underneath if we
- 36:46have a coordinator next year, that That figures out how to
- 36:49attack the middle of the field. He's gonna friggin Feast so I
- 36:54mean, that's what I'm looking forward to in the speaking of
- 36:56receivers Lofton. Another good game by Lofton.
- 37:01Oh yeah, couple catches for 42 yards, a big 35 yarder down
- 37:05field and as I was as I put the stamp on teh is being a while.
- 37:10I think offensive to he's shown so much so quick.
- 37:14Get you a little angry that we misused him throughout the year.
- 37:18As we've missed used numerous players but I think he's slot
- 37:24though. Next year, strictly the slot
- 37:26guy. What are you?
- 37:29I can see that and I could see him.
- 37:31I could lie. Could see him rotating into the
- 37:34slot when any time that that tase outside and I think that's
- 37:40that's the thing is that he's probably a little less fluid
- 37:43than Tay. I don't think he's somebody that
- 37:45can really pump outside regularly but I think we got
- 37:50other guys on the receiving Corps, that should be able to do
- 37:52that. We do have a lot.
- 37:55Say, the problem that we have right now is we probably have
- 37:58more slot receivers that are ready to play.
- 38:00Then we have snaps that we can give them because I think you
- 38:05know I think Jalen Jones can probably play inside and outside
- 38:10you know I think there's a couple other guys on this On the
- 38:14team that are probably more built for the slot but are
- 38:17probably going to have to play outside at least in the short
- 38:19term just because of the Personnel that we have, but I
- 38:23think Lofton is definitely separated himself from the rest
- 38:26of the guys, as being, you know, kind of probably the number two,
- 38:29reliable receiver going into next season.
- 38:31Yeah. I think I think I think the off
- 38:34season and next spring, or any critical for Jalen Jones, I
- 38:38think Jalen point, we saw that catch over the middle, if he can
- 38:41become that steady Eddie. Why I don't think he's an ex
- 38:44quite yet. That's going to give a lot of
- 38:47options for what we do with Tay and Lofton throughout the year.
- 38:52All right, Brian, let's just talk about these couple plays.
- 38:59Where I questioned it its fourth and two and it's probably more.
- 39:05Fourth two and a half. They have blumrich in there and
- 39:07there's a long to its as best. It's a long two.
- 39:11Okay that's cool. That's cool.
- 39:13We have blown work and they're like okay this is fine we're
- 39:14going to run some sort of power he goes under Center Or we
- 39:19gonna. Okay, we're going to run the
- 39:21ball down hill. Maybe we'll do a fake boot.
- 39:23Give him an angle to the edge, the play that was called, As
- 39:29stupid as a nice play was to the offensive lineman, it ain't far
- 39:34behind it. Yeah, this is definitely the.
- 39:39So this was the play before that happened.
- 39:41So this is this is the play before and I said hold my beer.
- 39:45No no no this is this is earlier this is early but that's I'm
- 39:47saying so I know I said hold my beer with the lately corn, had a
- 39:57bad call and then an I said hold my beer later later.
- 40:00Yeah this is this was awful and Again it's a sneaker.
- 40:08It's pretty much fourth and three.
- 40:10I mean bollocks, it was there it was everything.
- 40:12But that third yard and I mean, it was dead to rights.
- 40:18I mean it wasn't we didn't even get We might have got three
- 40:21inches on it. Yeah, maybe we got three inches
- 40:27and it was just an awful situational call.
- 40:32And then we had the play later. We get Trey recovering, the
- 40:35onside kick after the the safety.
- 40:39And we got blumrich in there. And this is where you question.
- 40:47It's I'm not faulting blumrich for trying to make a play and
- 40:50then unfortunately, Gallo gets gets, he gets into him and
- 40:54knocks the ball out of his hands.
- 40:55I question, why you're not riding your horse when he closed
- 41:00out this game because you're five yards from field, goal
- 41:05range. A first down, closes out the
- 41:07game, just give it to your horse and let him get the first down.
- 41:14Blumberg at that point was averaging about four yards.
- 41:17The carry know maybe even a little less that's like three
- 41:21yeah 3rb but and heme is averaging just under 10 at that
- 41:26point. Come on, just use common sensor,
- 41:31gross. This is another corn, trying to
- 41:34outthink everybody and then he out thinks himself.
- 41:37What's that? Even out thinks himself, you
- 41:39said here and it's there. You're deep in your own in any
- 41:42way, right? We're 39.
- 41:44I think it was acquired Lon. I'm sitting here and it's just
- 41:47like you run inside three times, you forced them to use their
- 41:51time off, if you don't get it. You're right in Parkers range
- 41:54anyway, you would have been he's hit 50 plus yarder already this
- 41:58year. So even if you don't gain
- 41:59another yard, it would have been one 5554 give or take based on
- 42:04their defense. You're probably going to gain at
- 42:06least five to six inside. The only you always see it.
- 42:12Why fumbles rarely happen inside the tackle right now.
- 42:15Somebody just Nails a perfect plate.
- 42:17We're going outside because it's space protection.
- 42:22You don't have your guys in front.
- 42:23You. So he goes against the cardinal
- 42:25sin. I'm going to do this
- 42:28fancy-schmancy stuff. No, dude, you're an idiot.
- 42:32I don't know football and I'm sitting here like just run the
- 42:35ball up the gut three times, forced them to burn all their
- 42:38timeouts. So it best if we don't get the
- 42:41first one, even if you averaged three of carry, its fourth and
- 42:46one and then you can roll the dice and say, you know what,
- 42:50we're going to go one more time, up the gut, right?
- 42:53One more time of to go over to close this game out or you know
- 42:56what? We're going to take the points.
- 42:59But, you know, yeah, so again, we win 29:25, the cup stays
- 43:09home. Two in a row. 21, a the streak
- 43:16begins again. The street begins again, 21 of
- 43:1923. Yep, 21 of 23, which is just
- 43:25insane. And it took, it took them having
- 43:30a generational defense to get one of those in a generational
- 43:34offensive player to get the other.
- 43:36Yep, says a lot. All right, Braun.
- 43:40Before we get into looking at the coaching, dominoes fall in
- 43:44today, we are going to take a quick pause for a message from
- 43:47our digital partners. We take a quick break, we'd like

- 44:12Dash report. Now back to the episode All
- 44:16right guys, if you have not been paying attention today, let us
- 44:19update. You probably are one be building
- 44:24a peer out of Louisiana, Lafayette goes to Florida.
- 44:29It broke about, 2:00 this afternoon.
- 44:32I think about 4:30 the Florida, official count released it.
- 44:39Now the question up to, he dropped a.
- 44:40Thank you to you L shortly after.
- 44:44Yep. He is going to coach him this
- 44:45weekend. So that's, that's some very,
- 44:49unseen is usually when a guy does what that is?
- 44:52They don't coach the next game, it's just but he's coaching
- 44:55Saturday. The question is Brian, did we
- 45:01put an offer in? You think we put an offer in
- 45:03him? I definitely think we kick the
- 45:07tires. I think this was probably
- 45:10something where I don't think we necessarily had something in
- 45:15like a handshake agreement and then Florida swooped in.
- 45:17I think this was more. He was listening, we were
- 45:20talking Florida started talking more.
- 45:24And, you know, once Florida came open, you know, somebody accepts
- 45:30Florida over Virginia Tech. I get it.
- 45:32I don't like it and you hope that We start winning more
- 45:37toss-ups like that in the future, whether it's recruiting,
- 45:42or trying to get a coach to come to our program, but you get it.
- 45:48It's, I mean, it's SEC. It's in a more winnable division
- 45:52of the SEC, really? I'm just more winnable than I'd
- 45:57say more winnable than the West right now.
- 46:01I don't think they're quite as deep.
- 46:02I think they are. Good, but I still think the West
- 46:07is deeper. Okay, there's no question that
- 46:12I'm interested to contract. Figured I'm gonna say, 7, I'm
- 46:16going to say seven. I think we offered we were
- 46:18probably about five and a half. Maybe six probably.
- 46:21Yeah, I thought I'd say five and a half.
- 46:23Anybody that is in that realm of desirable is probably what
- 46:30you're looking at anybody that has no or less head.
- 46:36Coaching experience is probably going to be around that four
- 46:38million Mark exactly what you get it.
- 46:42Right. They aren't SEC power.
- 46:44They've already got A roster full of talent.
- 46:48They've got a Cabana on the back of their football, facility
- 46:51downloads, the Cabana there, and believe it or not, you know, you
- 46:56can say culture, like, there's some kids that's going to sell
- 47:01them. Some kids, it won't some kids at
- 47:04will, I think the biggest thing at the Jordan brand to.
- 47:07So, they mean something to be said about that too.
- 47:10There's only three schools that have the Jordan brand.
- 47:11Michigan, Florida, UNC that I know of might have had another
- 47:15One, but for Napier right now, you make Lahoma.
- 47:19Have it. Won't you research that you
- 47:24effort that but here's the deal with Florida right now.
- 47:29No coach has made it past season for since Urban Meyer.
- 47:35Her admirers. Been gone for Oklahoma, does
- 47:38have the Jordan thing about them in a few minutes.
- 47:42No, nobody's made it past season 4.
- 47:46And Valen had a struggle season this year, but bowling came out
- 47:49the gate 1 10 and 11 games went to an SEC Championship, had an
- 47:5483 year last year, has definitely super down this year.
- 47:57They go six and six he's fired. It wasn't, you know you had
- 48:02muschamp come out the gate hot. McElwain had still had some good
- 48:05season they fire them. It's one of those jobs where to
- 48:10me, I know you said it the other night, I don't think they're in
- 48:13Texas territory yet their inches.
- 48:15Though they aren't giving guys time to fully establish their
- 48:21culture and to truly coach. And, you know, that it's not
- 48:27necessarily the first sign of trouble like Texas but it's
- 48:30about the second, right? Yeah.
- 48:32But what was it with Mullen? Like he?
- 48:34They were like, he's like two and eight in his last games
- 48:36against this just like, okay, that's going to happen.
- 48:40Like they pulled the plug quick, so they saw a recruiting
- 48:45trending down for them on top of one Bad season.
- 48:49They're like, all right, we're getting the fuck out of this
- 48:50business. Yeah, it's one of those things.
- 48:53Once you dip below, like 75 or 75% win percentage, they're
- 48:58going to fire you. Oh, you're 67 68.
- 49:03Yeah, we're like nine, ten games every year.
- 49:05See if we don't deal with that here.
- 49:08So it's interesting. He goes there especially after
- 49:11waiting, on Auburn because when he turned down Auburn and South
- 49:14Carolina last year, South Carolina completely understood.
- 49:19That is a hell of a rebuild tough place to win.
- 49:23Auburn. I didn't because Auburn had
- 49:25shown with Gus. They would give a guy five to
- 49:28six years, right? If you had success early, they'd
- 49:31ride it for a while, before they let you go.
- 49:34Florida donut. So I hope Billy Napier
- 49:37successful there. I really do, but If he starts 9,
- 49:44if he goes 93, 93 93, they will fire him.
- 49:49Tell me like see you later bud. All right.
- 49:52Yeah, I mean the big thing with Napier's that, you know, he can
- 49:55recruit. So I think you'll see a bump in
- 49:57that and I think they'll probably give him a little bit
- 50:01more leash. If they're getting the
- 50:02recruiting classes in there, because they think, all right,
- 50:05in time these players will come around.
- 50:08I think the reason that you saw them pull the trigger.
- 50:11So quick on Mullen is that recruiting didn't fall off the
- 50:15deep end, but it was slowly trickling.
- 50:18Out of their normal Comfort Range on top of the ins also
- 50:23going down as well. It went from the 7 to 10 where
- 50:26they used to to like 15 and it's weird year in a weird year.
- 50:32So now I think that one kind of you can't say it was expected.
- 50:38I think most people pegged it. He's probably going to go to
- 50:42Florida. The one that broke today though.
- 50:45Holy shit when this broke there. Were rumors yesterday of LSU,
- 50:50and I thought that was bullshit. Yeah, I'm glad I thought it was
- 50:54Lincoln Riley to USC. Wow.
- 51:00Yeah this makes more sense than Lincoln rally the LSU in my
- 51:04opinion. True because he avoids having to
- 51:08win in the SEC would he get? He gets to recruit within a
- 51:13three-hour range of where he works and really that's all he
- 51:18has to do. He really doesn't have to leave
- 51:21Southern California to recruit know and I mean it's kind of
- 51:27that prestige. Each job.
- 51:28Whereas I mean, I know Oklahoma is also a Prestige job, but you
- 51:33don't have to make the college football playoff every year as
- 51:36USC to keep that job. Also, the path of the college
- 51:41football. Playoff is a hell of a lot
- 51:42easier than it is in the Big 12 and a hell of a lot easier than
- 51:45it's going to be in the SEC. Damn right.
- 51:47Well you saw the guy do if you saw the tweet and I wish I could
- 51:50give credit to put it out there. Apparently Lincoln Riley did not
- 51:55want that move to the SEC and I get that right.
- 51:58Right. It's like we're going from a
- 52:01good League to the best league. Dip in, we're going to probably
- 52:06be in the side with let's see the best team in the best head
- 52:10coach. Two offensive gurus, like me LSU
- 52:15who has won three national titles in the last 20 years am.
- 52:21Who gets recruit all the Texas? And Missouri and maybe Texas, we
- 52:27can beat Missouri. Every year, we're going to be a
- 52:29dogfight and everything else. So like Lincoln made a business
- 52:34move in. Also, you wonder if Lincoln's
- 52:36looking at the NFL because out of all the programs you go to
- 52:40USC and you're successful, there there is a very good chance that
- 52:47the NFL will call you. Yep.
- 52:50And you know, you already seen it.
- 52:54If you go check 24/7 out, how many of the California kids,
- 52:57he's recruited to Oklahoma. The crystal balls are flipping.
- 53:01Kids are D committing, all Lily the Flynn.
- 53:04Yep. And that's one reason why it's
- 53:07starting to get a little irritating with wit.
- 53:08If he has his guy, like you need to get this now, because the the
- 53:13portal is already happening. We see, we've heard some
- 53:16whispers about some folks. We were deep in on potentially
- 53:20entering the portal, some guys that we had targeted this Cool.
- 53:24That are now D. Committing opening up their
- 53:26recruitment fully. Because obviously, not everybody
- 53:29wants to take a trip out to Southern Cal a lot of the
- 53:34footprint that Oklahoma's recruiting is, you know,
- 53:37Mid-Atlantic east coast south. I mean, they're all over there
- 53:41-, man. They gotta focus in Texas.
- 53:45So tan will bit more in the Southeast, but they'll go to
- 53:47California or coming in Virginia as they did last year, so,
- 53:51they're more of a national footprint.
- 53:55But for us it's like I see this in this like you get the new
- 53:59coach in here because it could be somebody that like a
- 54:03four-star loves and it's like yeah you lost him or he's going
- 54:06there. Yeah, I'm going to go there.
- 54:07Now I wouldn't go to him over here but I'm going in there so
- 54:11Whitney's to get on this to me. It needs to be done this week.
- 54:15He needs to make the move this week there.
- 54:18Again, you know, you know, you don't hear by December first.
- 54:21I'm going to start getting antsy.
- 54:22I do, you're already getting See y'all ready?
- 54:25Well because now you got Oklahoma open, right?
- 54:27That is a premier top, 10 job. So know who are they going to go
- 54:32after? You know you feel like it's
- 54:35probably where we are right now. It's probably a few guys that we
- 54:39haven't really contacted but it means going to be there that
- 54:42both a lot of their targets are going to be guys that are out of
- 54:45our pay range by default, but if they don't hit on those, then
- 54:50that's when they start creeping into the top end of what.
- 54:53We're looking at that's left, and then we've got, you know,
- 54:58there's another job open LSU and we're hearing, you know, Stoops
- 55:03from Kentucky might be somebody that they're looking at.
- 55:09So I mean, this is really you know, if Kentucky comes open
- 55:12that's that is a decent job right in our backyard.
- 55:17That is a direct competitor. It can to if the March noobs
- 55:21leaves in Mark Stoops either goes to 0 Oklahoma or LSU direct
- 55:27competitor. And when I say that, Charles
- 55:29Huff, David Chadwell Tony Elliot, some of the names we
- 55:35mentioned last week. Well, that's absolutely on their
- 55:37radar. Then they built a good culture
- 55:41there, the expectations aren't crazy Mark.
- 55:45Stoops is proving you can win 8 plus games there year and
- 55:50compete in getting the fight with Georgia lose the fight.
- 55:54But make it a fight, unlike some teams.
- 55:56So if we has this guy, he better get that ink drive this week
- 56:00because of Kentucky. Becomes open.
- 56:02They're going to steal somebody. We probably won't.
- 56:04Yeah and with might already have his guy and he's not announcing
- 56:07but he needs to go ahead and lock it up because the longer
- 56:09that we wait the greater possibility that guys get cold
- 56:14feet start looking elsewhere and we don't want to be in a battle
- 56:16if you already got a guy that's willing to sign, go ahead and
- 56:19get this done. And like we said, I'm not
- 56:23necessarily worried yet, but if we get past December 1st, if
- 56:27we're having the same conversation when we're putting
- 56:30together the next Sewed, we're going to put out, it's going to
- 56:33be a that that that's when I'm going to start worrying.
- 56:36If with screws this up, they should just fire with because
- 56:41you fired a guy. You fired a guy deep in season.
- 56:48Like d it like you fired him in. There was multiple weeks left or
- 56:52two weeks left in the season. My first thought was when you
- 56:55fired him, you had your guy you needed to get him out of the
- 56:58door. Get that if the pay structure
- 57:00straight and then just get this guy to sign the deal.
- 57:03Yeah. Because if because if you didn't
- 57:05have your guy you could have fired him earlier and set in and
- 57:08played the longer game good game.
- 57:11So in which keeping I think Wyatt.
- 57:15And you know what? Well I hope the next head coach
- 57:17makes you stop doing it. Bullshit.
- 57:19You'll need to keep everything quiet.
- 57:23Don't do it to fans because right now, I'm not the only one,
- 57:26that's an see. How about piano and he could
- 57:28still get it right? But I mean the, the drama here
- 57:32is a little bit more than is worth.
- 57:34Why do we need drama? We need a new coach in place to
- 57:37keep a top-25 class. Together to keep one of the best
- 57:42running backs in Virginia here, to keep a potential best lineman
- 57:46in Virginia here. To keep a solid Texas
- 57:50quarterback here. It's like, I'm just going to
- 57:53drop it at 7:45. I hope it's dropped at 7:45
- 57:57tomorrow morning and there's an announcement and there's a
- 57:59presser to lovin. It was perfectly done, but I'm
- 58:03getting worried about it and, you know, like kind of who's
- 58:08left now Huff, Chadwell Healy Jukes open.
- 58:12Now, we didn't throw that on here.
- 58:13Cutcliffe got they, essentially amicably departed today.
- 58:17I mean, you still got the The, the most of the coordinators are
- 58:20still out there, he's still got free mini, still got Elko, you
- 58:22still got those guys, you got funny, but I think, I think the
- 58:26big thing we're losing now is, you know, we are, we talked
- 58:30about our 1A and 1B and we've already lost our 1B.
- 58:33Yeah. And Like I said, there's still
- 58:38guys on the board that I'd be comfortable with, but every day
- 58:41it goes further either it sounds like either.
- 58:44They don't want the job or they're looking at other jobs,
- 58:49so, lock it up with, get it done.
- 58:53So we can go ahead and start building towards keeping its
- 58:56class together and building a coaching staff.
- 59:00And that's going to be key because trust us, y'all, when
- 59:04this coaching staff starts getting put together, I believe
- 59:07we are, we going, we're going to be going through fine-tooth comb
- 59:10with every position. Look for that episode.
- 59:13Might have some fun guest on here to talk at through to.
- 59:16Yeah, episodes, I'm not even gonna say episode episode
- 59:21because clearly what's happened in the last six years?
- 59:24Showed the value of having a really good staff.
- 59:29Because can I assist from? Go for it.
- 59:32You way, it's going. Would you adjust rather with
- 59:36said screw it? I'm going to keep the one day
- 59:40you're going to fire him him him him and him and you're going to
- 59:43hire new people. And I'm going to sign off on
- 59:45every single one of them. Not yet.
- 59:48Not yet. No, your homework until more
- 59:52guys are off the board. I'm not, I'm not saying that's
- 59:55what I want. I don't know.
- 59:58I'm going to say a burst name. Only first name only.
- 1:00:01And tell me if that, if you would have be like, no, we need
- 1:00:05to do this, Mike Which Mike? I've been which Mike, do you
- 1:00:13know what you're talking about? If you're talking about our
- 1:00:16friend down in E, see you then? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:20Yeah. That that's not inspiring.
- 1:00:22So again, it's Mike. Would you rather been like not
- 1:00:27keep for Wednesday and make him clean his staff out?
- 1:00:31Nah, I still, I still say that that we needed to get rid of get
- 1:00:36out of the 20 business, I think. By the way, I do because I guess
- 1:00:43I'll say that because I don't think we're going to that's
- 1:00:44going to be the route that we go and I know that this is a
- 1:00:50hypothetical here, but I don't think we're going to end up with
- 1:00:53that type of candidate in mind. I think that it's going to be
- 1:00:56somewhat at least that we discussed on this program or
- 1:01:00someone of that ilk. So no.
- 1:01:04I mean I think culture-wise he had to go.
- 1:01:06I think the I think the culture had been damaged Beyond repair
- 1:01:10Pair. Okay.
- 1:01:12Okay so I think that that's really where I'm landing on
- 1:01:15that. Oh God, but I'm asking you and
- 1:01:20if he screw if he screws it up bad then you know that that's to
- 1:01:24be seen. But I don't think he's gonna
- 1:01:25screw it up as bad as that weight.
- 1:01:27Go need to go if he screws it up.
- 1:01:28Bad. He's going to need to go.
- 1:01:32The other thing that I was going to wear to go, hold on. - skip
- 1:01:41that. Yes, you can LightWave agrees
- 1:01:44with me here. So, I like that.
- 1:01:48I'm just asking because the white and I hope you're still
- 1:01:53listening. Are you getting worried?
- 1:01:57And why are you, are you worried?
- 1:01:59Because it's Sunday night, it's after 10:00 the season is over,
- 1:02:04we're going to a bowl game. There is not even an inkling if
- 1:02:08we were going to get I'm gonna go with, I'm gonna go with the,
- 1:02:12the JC price thing when he was talking about Beamer.
- 1:02:14If, if Dwight's not worried, I'm not worried.
- 1:02:18Well, let's wait. Why are you wearing?
- 1:02:22Well, we move on here, because here we go, here we go
- 1:02:28concerned, everybody and it's all right, he's with a stone
- 1:02:32that so I think we're good. I think we're in a good place
- 1:02:34here guys, Dwight. If you hear anything, hit us up
- 1:02:40especially me because I'm gonna be sitting here taking the rest
- 1:02:43of the week and see nervous. I'm working at home with nobody
- 1:02:47here so it's quiet. But the thoughts that run
- 1:02:49through my head is oh God, we're going to hire this guy and I
- 1:02:52want to want to throw things. It's Curtis is going to need to
- 1:02:56ration that morning coffee so he doesn't go into full-on meltdown
- 1:03:00midday. You know, I'm already drinking
- 1:03:03like 28 ounces a day. Yeah, kids and he's gonna be
- 1:03:06like 40. I'm only having three giant cups
- 1:03:09before 10 a.m. I've already.
- 1:03:12Had a couple people up and told them like listen if you know who
- 1:03:17it is and you don't think I'm going to like it, you need to
- 1:03:21just you don't need to say who just rip the Band-Aid off.
- 1:03:27I'll respect if they want to hold their Source, but you need
- 1:03:29to tell me to go buy the bottle of Jameson's.
- 1:03:32Out of the liquor cabinet and start drinking it.
- 1:03:35I'm slightly inebriated, and slightly dull to the fact of who
- 1:03:39we hire, man. If you do that, you're gonna be
- 1:03:41throwing shit at the TV screen when the president.
- 1:03:43Whoa, whoa, it was so pretty much nights at TCU the
- 1:04:00Washington and Washington State stuff Let me actually, let me
- 1:04:05look up that because I haven't even looked at the West Coast
- 1:04:09stuff. This is, this is live right now.
- 1:04:15Whoa, the guy who interim and Washington State date dickered
- 1:04:21has been given a five-year contract.
- 1:04:25There it is. Off the table. so that's wild
- 1:04:33and I'm going to go to the Washington football, so I hear
- 1:04:40They have not gotten anything yet.
- 1:04:45If there's any rumors. Get yours up run.
- 1:04:48So if you have a Washington, Scoop feel free to hit us up.
- 1:05:01Efforting everything I've done. I'm not, I'm not seeing anything
- 1:05:04popping up that I'm seeing. I mean, some of the podcasts out
- 1:05:10there throwing out kahlan, Deboer, Matt, Campbell Justin
- 1:05:14Wilcox, will Bobby? I don't I don't know if those
- 1:05:19are like pipe dreams or if they're, you know, legitimate
- 1:05:22for them. So They're also saying the guy
- 1:05:27who's at Fresno State might have a chance at this.
- 1:05:30I did hear that earlier. Yeah, I didn't hear that.
- 1:05:33We'll talk to the guy for Fresno State wouldn't shock me?
- 1:05:35They're both. They're both west coast, guys.
- 1:05:40That makes more sense for them and that really doesn't put them
- 1:05:42at odds with anybody. Well, kind of in our radar.
- 1:05:49And I mean, we've heard a couple Wildcard games this week that
- 1:05:52we're going to keep to ourselves at this point that for the VT
- 1:05:55job. Ah, but we'll get to see how
- 1:05:57that will see if those come to fruition.
- 1:06:00We don't feel comfortable enough with, with throwing those out
- 1:06:03there yet. So, do not even joke about it.
- 1:06:07All right, Braun. Let's look at this, hopefully
- 1:06:09you. By the way, if anything breaks
- 1:06:11coaching was before we're out of here tonight, we're going to,
- 1:06:14we're going to talk about it, but we are going to look real
- 1:06:17quick. Good Saturday for us.
- 1:06:23Good overall year. We are both better than coin
- 1:06:26flips. So remember that we're better
- 1:06:30than coin flips. So if we say something, You
- 1:06:35might have a good chance to get it right?
- 1:06:38But we both go 73 and one on Saturday, Brian. 73 and one,
- 1:06:46Mike Gundy clearly took Oklahoma and the for because that pushed
- 1:06:54when he could have kicked a field goal to get it to five,
- 1:06:59that was one we pushed. And then, let's see, we both got
- 1:07:02in Sea State wrong, although the final two minutes of that game
- 1:07:06in the final two minutes of the tech game, What is it, Coastal
- 1:07:11chaos and Atlantic and are Keanu.
- 1:07:14They played UNC but They came back and won that game for two
- 1:07:19touchdowns and two minutes. That's insane.
- 1:07:23But they could not cover, we could not cover weight.
- 1:07:28Goes up to BC and just blows the door.
- 1:07:30We thought it'd be a tighter game than this.
- 1:07:32They will not 31. They beat the brakes off PC.
- 1:07:36Yeah, they were, I think they got a little boy, wake up call
- 1:07:40against Clemson and they're like, they were much more
- 1:07:42focused in this game and their quarterback.
- 1:07:45Even, I know he plays with The pastor but he seemed a little
- 1:07:48bit more focused. Yeah.
- 1:07:50Consistent throughout and once they had to leave it was kind
- 1:07:54of, you know, it was easy to put them away.
- 1:07:55At that point, it was really easy to put them away at that
- 1:07:58point, I mean and they didn't turn it off.
- 1:08:02Now UBC my about 31 points, they did not turn it off.
- 1:08:07Anytime during that game, the next one Bryant week, Brian got
- 1:08:11a Georgia Tech game, right. Everybody, Ryan got to do and
- 1:08:15you got it right? I'd like to thank God and
- 1:08:18everyone listening and I'm just kidding.
- 1:08:24It was not even a question like, Like, once they got to like 30,
- 1:08:30I think 31. It was like a question is, how
- 1:08:33big is it going to be? Because Georgia Tech's not
- 1:08:36scorn? No, they're not scoring at all.
- 1:08:40I mean, this is one of this is probably one of the better
- 1:08:42defenses that I think that we've seen in a while.
- 1:08:46Probably since those like really damn good Bama defense has led
- 1:08:50to problems or the 2010s. Yeah.
- 1:08:54Agreed. I mean they're nasty and seeing
- 1:08:58You know, seeing how Bama looked against Auburn like it literally
- 1:09:03took Bama 40 minutes to score and I mean reality is they
- 1:09:09probably should have lost that game and he all still in the
- 1:09:11Bill O'Brien bandwagon Or Nah. Hey listen.
- 1:09:17I know be, you know, C is different than being a head
- 1:09:20coach. I you know, I don't need y'all
- 1:09:22in my mentions on that but I don't again I don't think it's
- 1:09:27Sara Lee the most awful higher we could have but there are
- 1:09:30definitely a lot of question marks with that.
- 1:09:33If that's somebody that's on our radar.
- 1:09:36True very true FSU. Florida got us on that one.
- 1:09:43Yeah, it was a three-point game. We took FSU and two and a half
- 1:09:50but I think Mike Norvell might be okay if the guy think if he
- 1:09:57gets another class or two under his belt, that's good and
- 1:10:02they're starting to settle in and play the style of ball that
- 1:10:06he likes to play. Yep, there it started to click
- 1:10:09for them. So that's why they're, they've
- 1:10:12been more competitive. And, yeah, I think more that is
- 1:10:16on the offense. I think the defense was always
- 1:10:18up and down, they had good games in Bad Games with the offense
- 1:10:21has started to To put a few things together now.
- 1:10:25And that's really kind of turned it for them.
- 1:10:28Obviously, we got the next one with Miami, they will go wears
- 1:10:33off for Duke 4710. I mean, that wasn't even a game.
- 1:10:38We laid 21 could have late 31 and still been safe.
- 1:10:45Got that one, right? So, you know, and then South
- 1:10:50Carolina, Clemson the battle of the Palmetto State.
- 1:10:53Brian and his love affair with shame.
- 1:10:55Beamer took the 11 and a half points.
- 1:10:58I do not have a love affair of Shame.
- 1:10:59Beamer. I thought that, I thought that
- 1:11:01the Clemson game against wake was an aberration.
- 1:11:05No, I didn't think they were going to be as tight on offense
- 1:11:07in back-to-back weeks. I really three weeks if you look
- 1:11:11at, I mean, the week before they didn't have a bad outing, then
- 1:11:14you put it in with the weight game and then now again, South
- 1:11:18Carolina and, you know, No, for all of the problems, South
- 1:11:22Carolina's had offensively up and down, all year.
- 1:11:25I mean they've had a decent defense and it didn't work out
- 1:11:31this game. You did not work out and
- 1:11:33Clemson's defense just clamp them just like yeah, you're not
- 1:11:37doing any third string or looked like a third Stringer.
- 1:11:40Exactly Kentucky Louisville. I think we thought this game
- 1:11:46would be more competitive. I watch Pete, they blew them
- 1:11:49stupid. Blew the doors off them.
- 1:11:51I mean, that wasn't like gained. Like I remember I was we were
- 1:11:55doing some stuff around the house you know decorating
- 1:11:58Christmas and and I walking it's like 14-7 of my own.
- 1:12:03Okay. I like 23.
- 1:12:04I think we're safe. Well back, it is 31 sign.
- 1:12:07I'm like, are you safe? Three is really safe.
- 1:12:11Yeah, we're good. So you know we both got that one
- 1:12:15right? The pit game pit easily wins
- 1:12:19over Syracuse make sure just go crazy about that game.
- 1:12:23We played against them to Egg Bowl, Thursday night, not as
- 1:12:28high scoring, as I thought entertaining game old, Mustangs
- 1:12:31on Feelings by Thin and then Michigan.
- 1:12:36Ohio State. You nailed that one, dude, you
- 1:12:39nailed the, getting the spread. And how much of that game did
- 1:12:43you get to watch? Because I know you were going to
- 1:12:45do some traveling. I watched pretty much all the
- 1:12:49second half so you saw the absolute, we are going to pound
- 1:12:53you and we're going to pound you again.
- 1:12:57Yep. As an offensive lineman when you
- 1:13:01see. Well actually I game two.
- 1:13:04When you see that happening. what does it make me feel like,
- 1:13:11because edges It playing those type of games is like a euphoric
- 1:13:17feeling because you kind of get in this Zone where you feel like
- 1:13:22I'm attacking every play. I'm imposing my will on the
- 1:13:27other side of the ball. They can't stop us.
- 1:13:30Even if they slowed us down, we're going to get them.
- 1:13:32Hit them the next play. It's not going to matter.
- 1:13:35We're running down your throat. Fucking stop us because you're
- 1:13:39not going to do it. Yeah.
- 1:13:41And it's as empowering of a feeling as an offensive lineman
- 1:13:44as you can have. Yeah.
- 1:13:48And watching I got to watch about half of the second half.
- 1:13:53In kind of was trying to peek at it here and there, I mean, the
- 1:13:57stat line for Michigan was, I mean 297, they always broke 300
- 1:14:04and that is a group in Ohio, State team loaded with five
- 1:14:08stars. One thing and always talk this,
- 1:14:11my buddy, Mike, it worked a couple years ago.
- 1:14:15Michigan got torched right about hosting.
- 1:14:19Torched with the passing offense, they let go of Don
- 1:14:23Brown. Old-school, lot of cover 1,
- 1:14:26cover zeros, lot of man's. They brought in the McDonald
- 1:14:29kid, who is a? He's a look at some of the stuff
- 1:14:33he does. It's similar to ham obviously,
- 1:14:35he's got a little more tenure That's a modern-day way to slow
- 1:14:39down with the athletes at Michigan.
- 1:14:42Gets Ohio State. I mean, we've seen him Italy.
- 1:14:45They played, you could see cover three, cover for they played
- 1:14:48some man, they blitzed occasionally.
- 1:14:51I mean the two guys at the end or studs.
- 1:14:54Yeah. But what if it's less than high
- 1:14:56risk, High reward system and more of a drive on us drive on
- 1:15:01us grind it and make them make mistakes.
- 1:15:05Make them get antsy. Make them get impatient.
- 1:15:07Patient. And in any way they did.
- 1:15:10And even when even when they weren't impatient, they were
- 1:15:13getting some stops. And when they got impatient,
- 1:15:15they were absolutely getting stops.
- 1:15:16Yeah, I did not see that game playing out that way.
- 1:15:21I thought that Ohio state was still hit a few over-the-top,
- 1:15:24but Michigan stuck to their game plan and they they made that
- 1:15:29defense cry Uncle. Yeah, I mean, that last Drive
- 1:15:34where to literally it was six runs and it Like 65 yards.
- 1:15:40It was just like this is what we're going to do.
- 1:15:42We're going to do it. You will not stop us.
- 1:15:44We are going to look. We're going to close this game
- 1:15:46out. And something else.
- 1:15:50And I know the Virginia Tech fans up in Charlottesville,
- 1:15:54rushed the field which was hilarious to see Darrell Smith,
- 1:15:57planted the flag Rush. The field planning the several
- 1:16:01flags were planted. I think Rock planted one
- 1:16:05somebody else playing it one Tyrell Planet one, but how about
- 1:16:09just overall numerous Fields were rushed?
- 1:16:14And in this season has been great.
- 1:16:18Because what makes college football are the stadiums are,
- 1:16:23the fans are the bands. In the drum lines are the chance
- 1:16:29And when Michigan one Michigan's, a long-standing
- 1:16:33power, their blue blood, their top ten, top five team.
- 1:16:38They Rush the field. And I don't know if it was, you
- 1:16:42know, they broke the Ohio State streak, which is huge.
- 1:16:46But it's just this feeling that. You know, college football's one
- 1:16:52for me, it's always going to be one.
- 1:16:54I like watching the program game, I play Fantasy.
- 1:16:57I have a team but I can sit and legitimately watch any college
- 1:17:02game at any point in time. Why have multiple TVs in my man
- 1:17:08cave? I need more.
- 1:17:12And what the NFL if I miss a game, I'm not as upset, you
- 1:17:16know? You know, it is what it is but
- 1:17:20it's the sport. We love man.
- 1:17:22Yep. I will watch it any game that's
- 1:17:26on and I've got the time, I will sit down and watch it.
- 1:17:29Yeah, it doesn't matter. I mean I love watching the
- 1:17:32Hokies but I really like watching any other team play
- 1:17:35football. All to it, especially college
- 1:17:37football. Yeah.
- 1:17:38And like yesterday I watched a ton of bedlam and they rushed
- 1:17:44the field and it was great to see that, you know, Against you,
- 1:17:50it's any game and then when it's a rivalry game especially in
- 1:17:53college football, it's a lot more smack talk.
- 1:17:56It's a lot more popping. It's a lot more trash talking
- 1:18:00and it makes John after plays referees, having to step in
- 1:18:03separate Folks at times, and we saw it against Virginia, solve
- 1:18:08lunch, Ohio State, Michigan. Solid a bunch and Bedlam.
- 1:18:12It was great. Egg Bowl Egg Bowl.
- 1:18:15Everything was great. All right, fine.
- 1:18:18Let's go one more time. Let's make sure nothing has
- 1:18:20broken the last little while here.
- 1:18:25Or you seen anything? I have not.
- 1:18:31Okay. Well.
- 1:18:36If you've got nothing else to talk about anything else, you
- 1:18:39want to hit before we shut it out.
- 1:18:41I mean, we can we can talk some Thanksgiving break.
- 1:18:43How was yours, man? Oh yeah.
- 1:18:45Um well let's see. Well.
- 1:18:52The microwave broke literally right after my wife, put in the
- 1:18:57last dose batch of sweet potatoes because she throws them
- 1:19:00in their nukes on for a while before she bakes them, you made
- 1:19:04a pop sound. So Saturday, why did you watch
- 1:19:06all the Michigan game? This, you know how State game
- 1:19:09is? Because I was installing a new
- 1:19:11one above the range. That was fun.
- 1:19:16Yeah, eight tonnes of food. Desserts.
- 1:19:24Oh gosh. You know, we ate lunch in
- 1:19:27Virginia Beach and then travel to South Boston and ate another
- 1:19:31one for dinner at about 7:30. So, we were time there.
- 1:19:37Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:19:37We got a little. Yeah.
- 1:19:40I got a three-hour Drive in the middle there.
- 1:19:42Yeah, here's the funny part on Thursday.
- 1:19:48This is how I ate. I woke up.
- 1:19:50I eat like a nutrigrain bars. Like 8:00 about 11:00 is we had
- 1:19:56about four sit, then I got to eat some because if not the
- 1:20:00body's going to be screening, eat a sandwich and then Hammer
- 1:20:04to fully loaded plates, just Hammer attaboy.
- 1:20:10And then after that's done about an hour later, big old piece of
- 1:20:14pecan pie, big old piece of chocolate pie, like literally
- 1:20:18half a place worth I went with the dessert.
- 1:20:21Sampler, I had some pecan pie, I had some pumpkin pie and some
- 1:20:25apple pie had some chocolate pie.
- 1:20:28One of each sampler. I was the pecan pie was amazing.
- 1:20:34Homemade just love Thanksgiving and you know always a fun day.
- 1:20:44I didn't get a nap this year though.
- 1:20:46I did not get an app this year. I will say you know, I think
- 1:20:53it's okay. I've slept really good on
- 1:20:55Thursday. There you go.
- 1:20:57I got about a 20-minute snoozer just before we pack the car to
- 1:21:02leave. So I ate, I ate my two plates,
- 1:21:05had my dessert plate, hitting 20 minutes snoozer, I guess kind of
- 1:21:11like right at the I guess Rick right towards the end of the
- 1:21:17first half of the game, the first game, the early game, or
- 1:21:22the start of the second half, somewhere in there.
- 1:21:25Alright, packed up the car, hit the road, got South Boston,
- 1:21:28about seven, ready for round two.
- 1:21:31Only went one fully loaded plate for dinner though, I couldn't do
- 1:21:34to you. Well, good luck.
- 1:21:37Like that was I done three fully loaded plates.
- 1:21:42Granted I did not eat anything. Anything until 120.
- 1:21:47What's your dish? That's kind of You know, it's
- 1:22:02not a normal or what's your one dish, it like hits every year,
- 1:22:07like got to have that. All right, so the thing I like
- 1:22:11to make the most of the thing, I like to eat the most, I make a
- 1:22:14sausage dressing that's like out of this world.
- 1:22:21So I will make that in and I will crush that If it's not I
- 1:22:26love turkey. That's that's kind of the go-to
- 1:22:28but obviously that we are, that's on everybody's plate.
- 1:22:30So I'm not going to wipe that up the underrated.
- 1:22:34Team player there is anybody that can do brussels sprouts,
- 1:22:38right? Yeah, underrated very underrated
- 1:22:42very, very underrated. But we have brussels sprouts all
- 1:22:47the time here at the house. Well, I pick up Brussels sprouts
- 1:22:51at least two times a month because the way, my wife cooks
- 1:22:53them, they're amazing. Shout out my wife and I had
- 1:22:57never really been a fan of this until hers her corn pudding.
- 1:23:01Hey hmm. There's corn pudding.
- 1:23:04Coming off the bench, thinking the three, well, you know, it's
- 1:23:10a huge help because I'm going like mashed potatoes, turkey,
- 1:23:14loading, it gravy rolls, we have a broccoli casserole to the
- 1:23:19green bean and then after all that richness like that little
- 1:23:23Sweet Corn Pops and she only makes it during the holidays.
- 1:23:28I don't require, you know, no other time but one cannot be my
- 1:23:33wife's on a big Brussels. Fan.
- 1:23:35So we don't have brussels sprouts very often throughout
- 1:23:37the year. So when it comes to things,
- 1:23:40given when people are cooking for like, you know, ten, ten,
- 1:23:43ten people are more brussels sprouts come out.
- 1:23:47You know, I go ahead and reserve.
- 1:23:48All right, well you got this. We had 10 people, but I'm going
- 1:23:50to reserve a fourth of this Brussels sprout plate.
- 1:23:54Just from me and exit. Everybody else.
- 1:23:58Could split the remainder. I've Annex this section here.
- 1:24:01This is mine, do not touch. All right, man.
- 1:24:04Let's wrap it, dude. It is 11:00.
