- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Wednesday, it's the 6th of
- 0:17November and good day. Great to have your company.
- 0:20We are going to do some reading today because we're not called a
- 0:23chapter a day Bible reading podcast for no reason.
- 0:26No, this is what we do. We read God's word together and
- 0:29today are we are just strapping ourselves in embarking on this
- 0:34crazy and wonderful journey of the church, just exploding from
- 0:39those early, early days of the 12 apostles together saying what
- 0:43do we do next to the point where the Holy Spirit is unleashed
- 0:48upon those people and we will see what happens next.
- 0:52And it's really interesting to note that when God's spirit
- 0:55becomes alive and and active in these people, boy, their life
- 1:00changes. Nothing is the same for them.
- 1:05Interesting reflection for us and where we allow God's Spirit
- 1:09to move in US and where we say, yeah, do you know what, Holy
- 1:12Spirit? I'm a little bit comfortable
- 1:14here. Can you just leave me alone in
- 1:16this space? Ah, Holy Spirit, come.
- 1:19In fact, all of our lives fill us with a passion for you and
- 1:25your Kingdom as we hear these words recorded together in Acts
- 1:30chapter 3. Peter and John went to the
- 1:43temple one afternoon to take part in the 3:00 prayer service.
- 1:47As they approached the temple, a man lame from birth was being
- 1:51carried in Each day. He was put beside the temple
- 1:55gate, the one called the Beautiful gate, so he could beg
- 1:59from the people going into the temple.
- 2:01When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some
- 2:04money. Peter and John looked at him
- 2:07intently. Peter said, Look at us.
- 2:11The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money.
- 2:14But Peter said, I don't have any silver or gold for you, but I'll
- 2:20give you what I have in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene,
- 2:25get up and walk. Then Peter took the lame man by
- 2:30the right hand and helped him up, and as he did, the man's
- 2:35feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened.
- 2:39He jumped up, stood on his feet and began to walk.
- 2:43Then walking, leaping and praising God, he went into the
- 2:47temple with them. All the people saw him walking
- 2:51and heard and praising God. When they realised that he was
- 2:54the lame beggar they had seen so often at the beautiful gate,
- 2:58they were absolutely astounded. They all rushed out in amazement
- 3:03to Solomon's colonnade, where the man was holding tightly to
- 3:06Peter and John. Peter saw his opportunity and
- 3:10addressed the crowd. People of Israel, he said, what
- 3:15is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we
- 3:19had made this man walk by our own power or godliness?
- 3:24For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of all
- 3:28our ancestors, who has brought glory to His servant Jesus by
- 3:33doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you
- 3:37handed over and rejected before Pilate.
- 3:40Despite Pilate's decision to release him.
- 3:43You rejected this holy righteous 1 and instead demanded the
- 3:49release of a murderer. You killed the Author of life,
- 3:54but God raised him from the dead and we are witnesses of this
- 4:00fact. Through faith in the name of
- 4:03Jesus this man was healed and you know how crippled he was
- 4:07before. Faith in Jesus name has healed
- 4:11him before your very eyes. Friends, I realised that what
- 4:16you and your leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance, but
- 4:20God was fulfilling what all the prophets had foretold about the
- 4:23Messiah, that he must suffer these things.
- 4:28Now repent of your sins and turn to God so that your sins may be
- 4:32wiped away. Then times of refreshment will
- 4:36come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you
- 4:41Jesus, your appointed Messiah, for he must remain in heaven
- 4:45until the time for the final restoration of all things, as
- 4:49God promised long ago through His holy prophets.
- 4:53Moses said The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet
- 4:58like me from among your own people.
- 5:01Listen carefully to everything he tells you.
- 5:04Then Moses said anyone who will not listen to that prophet will
- 5:09be completely cut off from God's people.
- 5:12Starting with Samuel, every prophet spoke about what is
- 5:16happening today. You are the children of those
- 5:19prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to
- 5:23your ancestors. For God said to Abraham through
- 5:27your descendants, all the families on earth will be
- 5:31blessed. When God raised up his servant
- 5:35Jesus, He sent him first to you, people of Israel, to bless you
- 5:40by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.
- 5:55Our Lord, how wonderful to hear Peter preaching.
- 5:58How wonderful to hear him laying out your plans from the very
- 6:02beginning. From the moment you set foot on
- 6:06this journey, travelling alongside humanity, calling
- 6:10Abraham to follow you there, you were planning to rescue us
- 6:16through Jesus all along. Thank You that Your plan was
- 6:22never for us to earn our way to You, and our plan was never for
- 6:27us to find our own way in this big scary world and universe of
- 6:32ours. But Your plan all along was to
- 6:36provide everything that we needed in Jesus so that all we
- 6:42need do is believe in Him and all of our sins will be wiped
- 6:47away. And with a clean slate and
- 6:50uninterrupted relationship with You, we can bask in Your holy
- 6:56presence as Your sanctified people.
- 6:59Wow, thank you for your marvellous plan that you enacted
- 7:06so long ago so that we right here today could just come
- 7:11before you and bask in your grace and your love for us.
- 7:16We thank you, we thank you for Jesus, and we thank you for your
- 7:19love. And we pray all of this in His
- 7:22holy and precious name, Amen.
