- 1:18after the show, and you can do it
- 1:2024 hours a day, so yes.
- 1:23All right, guys, let's kick this show off.
- 1:25You ready?
- 1:26I know I am.
- 1:27All right.
- 1:27So welcome, everyone, to Inspirations for Your Life,
- 1:31if I didn't say welcome to you.
- 1:33Welcome.
- 1:35It is so great to have you here.
- 1:37I'm John C.
- 1:37Morley, a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video
- 1:41producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student,
- 1:44passionate lifelong learner, and now very grateful to
- 1:47be a published author.
- 1:50And it's my privilege and pleasure to welcome
- 1:52all of you here with me today.
- 1:54And we're talking about today's final episode for
- 1:58the conclusion is How Focus Shapes Daily Performance.
- 2:04Yes.
- 2:05And so that, ladies and gentlemen, if you
- 2:07didn't know, that is our main, basically that
- 2:11is our main topic, if you will, for
- 2:15the week of rounding out.
- 2:18But our granular topic is something important, and
- 2:22that is full focus integration state.
- 2:25Do you know what that is?
- 2:26Very, very key and very, very important to
- 2:28know what that is, okay?
- 2:31So this episode of Inspirations for Your Life
- 2:33explores the final stage of attention development, where
- 2:37focus is no longer something you actively manage,
- 2:40but something that becomes fully integrated into how
- 2:43you operate.
- 2:44At this level, folks, execution, decision-making, and
- 2:48workflow begin to function as one unified unit
- 2:53system rather than separate mental tasks.
- 2:55The result is more of a stable ecosystem,
- 2:59natural and consistent form of performance that no
- 3:03longer depends on constant correction or even effort
- 3:07spikes, which we've all heard about before.
- 3:10So, yeah, that's what's going on.
- 3:12And I think it's important to understand that.
- 3:15So today, we're closing the loop, guys, on
- 3:19a full week of focus exploration.
- 3:21Yeah.
- 3:22We're not talking about improving attention anymore.
- 3:25Nope.
- 3:26We're talking about integrating it because there comes
- 3:31a point in time where focus stops being
- 3:34something you apply and becomes something you are
- 3:37operating inside of.
- 3:39I think that's a very important thing to
- 3:42know.
- 3:43This, ladies and gentlemen, is where performance stabilizes
- 3:46at its highest natural level.
- 3:49So are you ready, guys?
- 3:50Let's go ahead and break this all down
- 3:52and get right into the meat of the
- 3:55show.
- 3:56All right, guys.
- 3:58So number one is focus becomes embedded into
- 4:01natural behavior patterns.
- 4:03It no longer requires conscious activation like many
- 4:06of you thought about in the past or
- 4:08waiting for it to do something in the
- 4:09past.
- 4:10It just kind of takes over.
- 4:11So I think that's a very important thing
- 4:14to actually understand.
- 4:17It no longer requires conscious activation.
- 4:19Number two, guys, attention stabilizes as a default
- 4:23operating condition.
- 4:25And you no longer need to reset it
- 4:29repeatedly.
- 4:30I think that's an important thing because when
- 4:32you have to repeat something and reset it,
- 4:35you're probably going to eventually forget.
- 4:36And then you're going to wonder why it's
- 4:38not working the way you want because, well,
- 4:40you didn't reset it.
- 4:41Number three, execution becomes rhythm-based rather than
- 4:47an effort-based system.
- 4:48Work begins to flow in steady cycles.
- 4:51Decision-making shortens due to reduced internal conflict.
- 4:56Less hesitation leads to faster clarity.
- 4:59Workflow becomes self-organizing through repetition.
- 5:04Structure emerges without forcing control.
- 5:07And I think that's another big one, guys,
- 5:09is so many people I know, they force
- 5:11control.
- 5:11And then they wonder why it's not going
- 5:14where they want it to be.
- 5:15I think that's a very important thing to
- 5:19actually understand, is that it's not going where
- 5:22they want it to be.
- 5:23Number six, guys, cognitive friction decreases during transitions.
- 5:35Moving between tasks becomes smoother and easier.
- 5:40Number seven, output becomes more consistent across different
- 5:44conditions.
- 5:45Performance no longer fluctuates heavily.
- 5:48It just sort of like is there, goes
- 5:53up a little, goes down, but its fluctuations
- 5:55are very minor.
- 5:57Number eight, guys, mental processing becomes less reactive
- 6:01and more structured.
- 6:03Thought patterns stabilize over time.
- 6:05And I think we've said this before.
- 6:06When we have consistency and when we have
- 6:09structure, we will go far, all right?
- 6:13But sometimes people get stuck in that loop.
- 6:14They're like, oh my gosh, I don't know
- 6:16what I'm going to do.
- 6:17And I think that's a very important thing
- 6:19to understand, is that structure is absolutely the
- 6:24key.
- 6:24And so is consistency.
- 6:26If you think that you're going to get
- 6:27somewhere without structure, without being consistent, you're not.
- 6:32You're just going to get into a world
- 6:33of delusion, illusions, right?
- 6:37I think that's an important thing.
- 6:38Many people don't want to admit that they're
- 6:42in a delusion or they're in some type
- 6:44of an illusion.
- 6:45And I think that might be hard for
- 6:47some people because maybe you're seeing something, but
- 6:52that perception is changing what's really there.
- 6:57I think that's an important one, guys, because
- 7:00our perception changes our reality.
- 7:06Number nine, attention holds longer without conscious correction.
- 7:12Focus becomes naturally sustained, but this does not
- 7:16happen, guys, overnight.
- 7:18And I said this to you guys before.
- 7:20It doesn't happen overnight.
- 7:21And the reason I say it doesn't happen
- 7:22overnight is because it's about you.
- 7:25It's about where you are in life.
- 7:28And I think that's a very important thing
- 7:31to realize, is that it's about where you
- 7:35are in life at this given moment, not
- 7:37where you're going to be later, not where
- 7:39you were yesterday, but where you are in
- 7:41life at this exact given moment and time.
- 7:46Yeah, that's key.
- 7:49Number 10, energy usage becomes more balanced throughout
- 7:53the day.
- 7:54There are, let's say, less sharp peaks and
- 7:58drops.
- 7:59So that's always good because now you can
- 8:01have that ebb.
- 8:02You can have that flow, not have those
- 8:04jagged edges.
- 8:05Maybe there might be one or two or
- 8:07a minor one, but it won't be like
- 8:09it was before.
- 8:10And I think when we have interruptions like
- 8:12we talked about before, we get distracted, but
- 8:15we not only lose focus, our motivation wanes
- 8:20because our confidence goes down.
- 8:24Number 11, guys, task switching loses its disruptive
- 8:28effect.
- 8:31Transitions no longer break momentum when we are
- 8:35in the zone.
- 8:38And getting in the zone is about a
- 8:41state.
- 8:42It's about a feeling that all of us
- 8:45maybe come to be around.
- 8:49It's about that kind of a condition, okay?
- 8:55I think that's important to know.
- 8:59I think it's important to know that it's
- 9:05truth.
- 9:07It's truth.
- 9:09Truth is the reality.
- 9:12But your truth does not happen overnight.
- 9:16And when you don't get where you want
- 9:17to be overnight, like, oh my gosh, it's
- 9:18never going to work.
- 9:19No, it's not never going to work.
- 9:21It's just not going to happen overnight.
- 9:23That's the truth, guys.
- 9:25Not going to happen overnight.
- 9:27When you're in the zone, you're not disruptive,
- 9:30okay?
- 9:35Things can come to try to take you
- 9:37off your path.
- 9:38But when you're centered and when you're grounded,
- 9:40it's like it quickly fades and you go
- 9:44right back to what you're doing.
- 9:46Almost as if it was a blip.
- 9:48But that happens when we're grounded and when
- 9:50we are centered in ourselves.
- 9:53Number 12, guys.
- 9:55Execution feels continuous rather than segmented.
- 10:02Segmentation is about different parts, right?
- 10:07But it's about who you are.
- 10:11And who you are is something that I
- 10:13think most people don't realize.
- 10:17They don't realize that you can be who
- 10:21you want to be if, if, if, you
- 10:25actually do the right things, okay?
- 10:31When you do the right things, you become
- 10:35part of an ecosystem that literally changes every
- 10:40single time.
- 10:44And you grow and you become better with
- 10:47who you are right now.
- 10:49I think that's a, I think that's a
- 10:51whirlwind.
- 10:52You know, sometimes when we have the floor
- 10:54taken beneath us, like, oh my gosh, what
- 10:57am I going to do?
- 10:57How am I going to react?
- 11:02Instead of that, think about what can I
- 11:05learn from this experience?
- 11:09What can I do better next time?
- 11:14What can I avoid?
- 11:19What can I do to get back on
- 11:20the track that I once was on?
- 11:26And I think anytime somebody gets interrupted or
- 11:28disrupted from something like, oh my gosh, what
- 11:30the heck am I going to do, right?
- 11:32What the heck am I going to do?
- 11:35That's important, guys.
- 11:37That is very, very important.
- 11:41Important to know, important to understand, right?
- 11:47That's the key here.
- 11:48Number 12, guys, execution feels continuous rather than
- 11:51segmented.
- 11:52Because as I said before, when something is
- 11:53segmented, it's like disjointed.
- 11:55It's like it starts, it stops.
- 11:57It starts, it stops.
- 11:58And there's not a continuous connection.
- 12:00If you ever think of, let's say, an
- 12:04example I can give you is a gutter,
- 12:06okay?
- 12:07So gutters, for a long time, they would
- 12:10have to seam them together, the soffits.
- 12:12Well, now they have something that they do
- 12:14seamless gutters.
- 12:16And seamless is a lot better for the
- 12:19leaves and for the water.
- 12:20So this way, there's nothing to get stuck
- 12:22from any kind of abrasions or any bumps
- 12:26or any levels.
- 12:28So that's important.
- 12:30So execution feels continuous rather than segmented.
- 12:32And your workflow flows as a connected process,
- 12:36not as a disjointed set of tasks.
- 12:40So when we realize that what's in our
- 12:42life is connected to us and the world
- 12:45around us, it's like an epiphany happens inside
- 12:48of us.
- 12:50We get the insight to go where we
- 12:52want to be.
- 12:54We get that thought of inspiration that says,
- 12:58you know what?
- 12:59We need to do this instead.
- 13:01That's what we need to do.
- 13:03But if you're going to look for the
- 13:05answers all at once, they are not going
- 13:07to come all at once.
- 13:09Let's just be pretty honest about that.
- 13:12When you can understand that they won't come
- 13:14all at once, you'll be like, all right,
- 13:15I get it now.
- 13:16I get how this works.
- 13:18Number 13, guys, mental clarity remains stable under
- 13:24varied conditions.
- 13:26External pressure has less impact now.
- 13:30But you see, it's like, think of it
- 13:32like this.
- 13:33You know, if you have a pump, right?
- 13:35Swimming pool is the best example.
- 13:38And sometimes if the water, let's say the
- 13:41pool, for example, is at a different level.
- 13:44So if the pool is higher than the
- 13:46pump, the water is going to flow down
- 13:49from gravity.
- 13:49If the pool is lower and the pump
- 13:51is higher, well, then the water is not
- 13:54going to flow up to the pump so
- 13:55easily.
- 13:56So you've got to make sure the pump
- 13:57is primed or there's going to be no
- 13:59water in the basket.
- 14:00If there's no water in the basket, it's
- 14:02going to be like, and eventually you could
- 14:04burn the pump out.
- 14:06So that's what we call priming the pump.
- 14:08And even when there is gravity feed, you
- 14:11still might need to prime the pump because
- 14:13there isn't any suction there.
- 14:17The water does that.
- 14:20So priming a pump in the literal sense
- 14:25is very similar to us priming our own
- 14:27pump, to us becoming grounded, to us becoming
- 14:31aware, here we are, aware of our current
- 14:34situation.
- 14:35And when we are grounded, guys, life seems
- 14:40to have a natural flow.
- 14:45A natural flow that many people didn't even
- 14:49know existed.
- 14:50Number 14, productivity becomes less dependent on motivation
- 14:54cycles.
- 14:56Okay.
- 14:57Always says, oh, you got to get motivated,
- 14:59John.
- 15:00So motivation only lasts for a certain period
- 15:02of time.
- 15:04If you lose that, then it's like, well,
- 15:06what do I do now?
- 15:08Motivation is not what keeps you going.
- 15:10The discipline is what keeps you going.
- 15:12Motivation can get the pump primed, but it
- 15:16won't keep you going.
- 15:17Won't keep the engines running.
- 15:20It might get it started, but it won't
- 15:22keep it going.
- 15:24Number 15, focus no longer competes with distractions
- 15:30internally.
- 15:31So when we have distractions outside, that's one
- 15:34thing.
- 15:34But when there's distraction inside our body, it's
- 15:37a lot harder to dismiss them because they're
- 15:40inside us.
- 15:41And they're part of us.
- 15:45Competing thoughts weaken the influence.
- 15:48And when the influence gets weakened, we're like,
- 15:51oh, where's my confidence?
- 15:54My belief just kind of tanks.
- 15:59A lot of people do that because they
- 16:01see other people around them doing that.
- 16:02So what do they do?
- 16:03They copy them.
- 16:05Number 16, work becomes easier to structure mentally.
- 16:11Organization happens as part of thinking.
- 16:14Part of thinking.
- 16:17Attention no longer fragments easily under loads.
- 16:21Cognitive scattering is now reduced.
- 16:24When we decrease the amount of load on
- 16:29our brain, our brain can function more efficiently.
- 16:35It can use less energy.
- 16:37Our body does use energy, okay?
- 16:41And so when we learn how to do
- 16:43that, we become less stressed.
- 16:48We become more in line with synchronicities, which
- 16:57don't just happen for any reason.
- 17:00They're linked to us and what we're creating.
- 17:03Cognitive scattering becomes reduced and may eventually become
- 17:07eliminated because now we are grounded.
- 17:10Now we are paying attention to something.
- 17:13The thoughts are not diverting to something else.
- 17:16All right?
- 17:17How many times have you taken a test
- 17:19maybe when you're younger or maybe still in
- 17:21school like myself and you take the test
- 17:23and you're wondering what Jimmy or Bobby are
- 17:25doing or you're wondering what you're going to
- 17:26be doing after the test.
- 17:27Like you're going to go over somebody's house
- 17:29or you're going to go play or something
- 17:30like that.
- 17:30I remember that.
- 17:32And then it's like we have to get
- 17:33through the test first.
- 17:35And once the test is over, then we
- 17:37can go play.
- 17:38But the test has to come first.
- 17:42But sometimes doing that test is like your
- 17:43mind's like, okay, I got to get my
- 17:44mind back on track.
- 17:45And when I get it back on track,
- 17:48I keep it there.
- 17:50I can always go play.
- 17:51But this test is today.
- 17:52This test isn't coming again.
- 17:54I need to do well in this class.
- 17:56This is my midterm.
- 17:56This is my final.
- 17:58I need to focus.
- 18:00Number 18, guys.
- 18:01Performance becomes predictable regardless of the environment.
- 18:05When we're able to know our performance can
- 18:08be at a certain level, that's giving ourselves
- 18:13control.
- 18:15That's allowing us to manage the inputs to
- 18:19control the outputs.
- 18:22If you're doing something and you're working with
- 18:24a machine and you're putting too much in,
- 18:26let's say you're putting in papers to get
- 18:29folded.
- 18:29If you put too many in, what's going
- 18:31to happen?
- 18:32The machine's going to get stuck.
- 18:33It's going to jam.
- 18:35Same thing happens with a shredder, right?
- 18:37You put too many in, it gets stuck.
- 18:41Then you have to either take it apart
- 18:43or the better one, you push the reverse
- 18:44button and it goes and reverses out.
- 18:49Number 19, guys.
- 18:51Thinking and action become closely aligned.
- 18:56They actually converge together.
- 18:59And delay between the thought and the execution
- 19:02suddenly reduces.
- 19:04And you don't know why, but all you
- 19:07know is you feel better.
- 19:08You feel more in control.
- 19:09You feel less stressed.
- 19:14You feel more empowered.
- 19:18Number 20, guys.
- 19:19Mental resistance during task becomes minimal.
- 19:24Friction is reduced significantly.
- 19:25And when friction is reduced significantly, we're going
- 19:31with the ebbs and the flows.
- 19:34We're using less energy.
- 19:40Number 21, attention self-corrects when drift begins.
- 19:46Recovery becomes automatic, guys.
- 19:50It becomes automatic.
- 19:53It's an inborn behavior that we learn in
- 19:58our life.
- 19:58We're not born with it.
- 20:00When I say inborn, it's the fact that
- 20:01our body has learned how to process this
- 20:05autonomously.
- 20:06So we learn a lot of different patterns
- 20:08in life.
- 20:09And we learn how to respond to certain
- 20:10patterns based on our previous experience and our
- 20:14new experiences.
- 20:17So that one, we stay safe.
- 20:19And two, we're able to manage the situation.
- 20:22And three, we're able to master it and
- 20:24become more efficient.
- 20:25Number 22, guys.
- 20:28Workflow transitions happen without disruption.
- 20:32When you go from one stage of a
- 20:35production line to another, there's always going to
- 20:38be some type of a tobacco or a
- 20:40delay.
- 20:41But what if you could move from one
- 20:43to the other and the delay would be
- 20:44very minor or non-existent?
- 20:49That'd be amazing.
- 20:50And you can do it if you become
- 20:53in alignment.
- 20:54Alignment with what?
- 20:55Alignment with your core values.
- 20:57So it means you've got to have good
- 20:58core values, the core values align, and then
- 21:00you could become grounded.
- 21:02Momentum, guys, is preserved naturally.
- 21:05It happens because of your state, because of
- 21:09your mind, because of your organization.
- 21:11It's like, oh, I get this now.
- 21:13It makes sense.
- 21:15And then you're able to move forward from
- 21:16there.
- 21:17Number 23, guys.
- 21:19Execution becomes less dependent on conscious effort.
- 21:23Actions feel more automatic.
- 21:26And when they're automatic, does that mean that
- 21:28they're right?
- 21:29Not always.
- 21:30So we have to check ourselves and make
- 21:32sure the actions are really autonomously helping us.
- 21:38People think just because things are happening without
- 21:40thought, it means they're right.
- 21:43It doesn't.
- 21:44So we have to be accountable and know
- 21:46that what we're doing is actually benefiting our
- 21:48ROI, benefiting our greater good or the greater
- 21:51good of all concerned as well.
- 21:53Number 24, guys.
- 21:55Cognitive load decreases during sustained work periods.
- 22:00When we understand something and we're in a
- 22:03work period and we know what to do,
- 22:08our stress levels go down.
- 22:10Our efficiency levels go up.
- 22:12Our energy burn goes down.
- 22:16Our relatability goes up.
- 22:20Our confidence level goes up.
- 22:24The mental strain is reduced.
- 22:25And I think when we learn how to
- 22:27reduce mental strain, that's almost a home run,
- 22:31if it isn't a home run.
- 22:33Number 25, guys.
- 22:34Output reflects internal system stability.
- 22:38Rather than emotional state, which a lot of
- 22:40people rely on as an emotional state, but
- 22:43we have to look at the output and
- 22:47notice that the results can become consistent.
- 22:52Not that they may be, they will become
- 22:55consistent if you're aligned with your core values.
- 23:00And your core values incorporate the fact that
- 23:05they're only being done for the greater good
- 23:06of all concerned.
- 23:08Number 26, guys.
- 23:10Focus no longer requires intentional maintenance.
- 23:13It becomes part of our baseline behavior.
- 23:18Think of it like a computer.
- 23:21It becomes part of our post, power on
- 23:24self-test.
- 23:24It becomes part of our environment.
- 23:27And when that happens, it's like, hey, you
- 23:32know what?
- 23:32This isn't so bad.
- 23:33This was easy.
- 23:37I don't wanna say the words easy to
- 23:39you, but I wanna say that it'll be
- 23:40easier.
- 23:44Easier, easier.
- 23:46Number 27, guys.
- 23:48Task completion becomes more predictable and reliable.
- 23:51When that happens, stress goes down.
- 23:53When that happens, ROI goes up.
- 23:56When that happens, leadership potential starts to grow.
- 24:00And work, ladies and gentlemen, finishes with less
- 24:04variations.
- 24:06In other words, work finishes with consistency.
- 24:12With consistency, not unpredictability.
- 24:17Number 28, guys.
- 24:18Performance remains steady under changing conditions.
- 24:23External variables have reduced impact.
- 24:26So when we have different inputs or different
- 24:28configurations, we can still use those and manage
- 24:35successful output.
- 24:36That's key, guys.
- 24:38It's very, very key to understand that.
- 24:41Number 29, guys.
- 24:43Attention, execution, and workflow begin operating as one
- 24:47coherent system.
- 24:53When we have learned skills, we're younger.
- 24:56And we still do this today.
- 24:57You might say, Chi, how does timestables help
- 25:00us?
- 25:01How does color help us?
- 25:02They're all part of our baseline system that
- 25:06allows us to grow, that allows us to
- 25:08learn.
- 25:09This is why we start with basic education.
- 25:12Because we have to prime our pump, right,
- 25:17with things we can link to easily.
- 25:20And as we get older, there's more stuff
- 25:23that we can latch onto.
- 25:25Therefore, we become more knowledgeable because we can
- 25:28attach more complicated things to things we already
- 25:31know.
- 25:33Separation between them, guys, virtually disappears.
- 25:38And some people think it's magic, but it's
- 25:40not.
- 25:41It's true synergy.
- 25:43Number 30, guys.
- 25:44Full integration is achieved when focus becomes your
- 25:48identity, not an effort.
- 25:52Identity happens when you're in alignment with your
- 25:56core values.
- 25:58That blows my mind.
- 26:01So the key is not working harder, not
- 26:05doing more.
- 26:07It's working smarter.
- 26:09But smarter means making the choices that flow
- 26:13with your core values.
- 26:16Not just today, not just tomorrow, but every
- 26:19single day of your life.
- 26:23At this point, guys, performance stabilizes at its
- 26:26natural peak.
- 26:28Natural peak.
- 26:33In closing, guys, I want to say that
- 26:35so the final insight is very simple.
- 26:40Okay?
- 26:41You are not trying to control focus anymore.
- 26:47Let me say that again.
- 26:49You are not trying to control focus anymore.
- 26:52No more.
- 26:57You are, however, now operating as someone whose
- 27:04systems already includes it as part of its
- 27:08baseline, as part of its initial software load.
- 27:12That is where performance stops fluctuating.
- 27:18That, ladies and gentlemen, is where execution becomes
- 27:20a natural flow like nature.
- 27:26That, ladies and gentlemen, is where stability becomes
- 27:30permanent.
- 27:35And when we align with those things and
- 27:38we start to see, wow, this is happening,
- 27:42you'll feel like you're putting no effort in.
- 27:45Because everything is just flowing with the universe
- 27:47and that's aligned with you.
- 27:49Ladies and gentlemen, I am John C.
- 27:51Morley, serial entrepreneur.
