- 0:00Speaker 3: I'm Big Kurt.
- 0:01Speaker 1: I'm the vocalist of a Rim Townshall Death outfit. We're
- 0:05Speaker 1: made up of Scott Blair, Brendan, Danny Boy and myself
- 0:10Speaker 1: and we're here to have a chat about a brand
- 0:13Speaker 1: new single that's coming out Saturday at twenty first and
- 0:15Speaker 1: February called Cartography.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeahful, Kurt, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Rather no, thank you, thanks for opportunity.
- 0:22Speaker 2: My absolutely pleasure.
- 0:23Speaker 4: So, as you say, Baron release your new single, Carnography
- 0:27Speaker 4: this Saturday, February the twenty first. So how are you feeling?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Oh, super hyped.
- 0:32Speaker 1: There's a lot of hard work that always goes into
- 0:35Speaker 1: any release that any musician can relate to. But yeah,
- 0:38Speaker 1: a lot of hard work in terms of all of us.
- 0:41Speaker 1: You know, we will have jobs and families and all
- 0:43Speaker 1: that sort of stuff. But we've been just itching to
- 0:45Speaker 1: get this one out. We've had it in the back
- 0:47Speaker 1: pocket since we dropped Exhume so well over a year now.
- 0:53Speaker 3: So more than anything, we're just we're so ready to
- 0:56Speaker 3: share this with.
- 0:56Speaker 1: The world, and to have a music video to come
- 0:59Speaker 1: with it as well is very exciting.
- 1:01Speaker 2: No, So tell us me more about the song from
- 1:03Speaker 2: a musical point of view. What you're done for with it.
- 1:06Speaker 3: We just wanted to.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I guess we've really found out DNA as brim in
- 1:10Speaker 1: this track. Personally, I found with Exhume, I felt like
- 1:16Speaker 1: we were almost there. But I feel like carnography is
- 1:19Speaker 1: definitely what we're aiming for groovier, trying to keep that
- 1:24Speaker 1: heavy nature as well. We want people to be able
- 1:27Speaker 1: to headbang, throw it down, feel all sorts of different
- 1:30Speaker 1: emotions in the one you know, sort of set or
- 1:34Speaker 1: through each track, but canography is there just to rip
- 1:37Speaker 1: your face off, and we hope everyone can really relate
- 1:41Speaker 1: to that.
- 1:42Speaker 4: No, that's actually the perfect segue into my next question, mate,
- 1:44Speaker 4: Like the press release says that it's your most focused
- 1:47Speaker 4: and violent material to date, so you obviously agree.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, And it's been It's been really fun to
- 1:54Speaker 1: touch in on that because for anyone that knows me personally,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'm such a big gentle job and stuff, so you know,
- 2:02Speaker 1: and I love metal and all aspects of it and everything.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So to tap into that with with my boys in
- 2:07Speaker 1: the band, it's been so fun. So like our lead
- 2:11Speaker 1: guitarist Blair, that's my older brother, so you know, to
- 2:14Speaker 1: have that as well too, bros.
- 2:16Speaker 3: In a band doing their thing. It's very cool.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But Blair wrote the song everything that you'll hear from
- 2:24Speaker 1: the aggressive nature of the yeah, the riffs, the.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Groove, all of that.
- 2:29Speaker 1: And it was Scott, our drummer who actually brought the
- 2:31Speaker 1: concept of the song and made it carnography and yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 1: which we drew inspiration and what the video became to be,
- 2:40Speaker 1: which is pretty cool.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 4: So the song starts with a spoken word piece outlining
- 2:45Speaker 4: the meaning of cartography, so runs through that meaning and
- 2:48Speaker 4: how it relates to the song.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Well, the meaning in particular, well the start of the song,
- 2:54Speaker 1: it gives you the definition of what it is. So
- 2:58Speaker 1: I'll let that one play on for the listeners when
- 3:01Speaker 1: the track's ready to go. But in particular, carnography is
- 3:06Speaker 1: a fusion of the word carnage and pornography mixed into one.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And Scott, he's a big Rambo fan, loves Rambo and
- 3:17Speaker 1: he's got all the books. And I might be wrong
- 3:20Speaker 1: here for any Rambo fans and for Scott when you
- 3:22Speaker 1: watch this, but through it one of the stages of
- 3:25Speaker 1: the book.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I think it was a first release. There was a
- 3:29Speaker 1: review written about it and someone first used the word
- 3:33Speaker 1: carnography in like nineteen seventy two in this review and
- 3:37Speaker 1: sort of no one knew the definition of it, and
- 3:38Speaker 1: then sort of became, I guess a generalized word or
- 3:42Speaker 1: started to become familiar on people's vocabulary. But then Rambo,
- 3:47Speaker 1: like the writers and stuff, tapped into that and used
- 3:49Speaker 1: it in I think it was the fourth edition of
- 3:52Speaker 1: the book, and in the music video at the very
- 3:57Speaker 1: start you'll see what he was Scott, wait up out
- 4:00Speaker 1: of bed. If you guys have a little look over
- 4:03Speaker 1: to the right of the screen. As he gets up
- 4:05Speaker 1: out of his bed. He's got a little like a
- 4:08Speaker 1: workout kid and big fellas like me don't know what
- 4:12Speaker 1: that means. So it's like anyway, it's there, and he's
- 4:14Speaker 1: got the Rambo book and a Rambo knife, which we
- 4:18Speaker 1: use in the music video as well for him to
- 4:22Speaker 1: kill someone.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Yeah, no talking music video, mate, Like, I've got to
- 4:26Speaker 4: know what it's about. You got carnage, pornography, and Rambo like,
- 4:30Speaker 4: tell us what's going on.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Well, the interesting thing was that, like I said, Scott
- 4:35Speaker 1: brought the concept to it, but everyone can relate on this.
- 4:41Speaker 1: So the music video is about just an ordinary dude
- 4:45Speaker 1: going through their day and you just from the get go.
- 4:48Speaker 1: You're just having a shit start, right, You wake up bluddy,
- 4:52Speaker 1: you know, you go to brush your teeth as a
- 4:54Speaker 1: pube on your toothbrush, things like that.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I want to I don't want to give too much
- 4:58Speaker 3: away because that makes up. But you'll see that.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And just throughout his day, he'll go to work, he'll
- 5:04Speaker 1: go just to the shop to get something or whatever,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and he just runs into other dickheads or has altercations
- 5:13Speaker 1: where in the real world we just got to bite
- 5:14Speaker 1: our tongue or you know, and just be like, shit,
- 5:18Speaker 1: it's all good, just pass it on. But in the
- 5:20Speaker 1: back of my mind, we just want to funck shit
- 5:22Speaker 1: up right, We just want to kill you.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Get that angry? He just that's it.
- 5:26Speaker 1: So I guess he goes through his whole day with
- 5:28Speaker 1: all these misdemeanors things happening, he just gets to a
- 5:31Speaker 1: point where he loses shit and he goes back and
- 5:33Speaker 1: he murders every single one of those people that props
- 5:36Speaker 1: him for that day.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It sounds like it started a fucking good movie to.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Me, well hopefully, yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And where we tapped into that was doing all the
- 5:50Speaker 1: video and stuff. We did that with Eric locally here
- 5:53Speaker 1: in Towntal and great to work with. Special shout out
- 5:58Speaker 1: to him. But the idea when Scott and us we're
- 6:02Speaker 1: all talking about it and coming together, we were like, well,
- 6:05Speaker 1: we've got to play by Scott. You're playing the main
- 6:08Speaker 1: dude that has a shit day and goes back and
- 6:10Speaker 1: kills everyone, and the.
- 6:13Speaker 3: People you are going to kill us.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So you will see that in the video, which was
- 6:17Speaker 1: so much fun to play with.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Picture Cutography is the first song released from the upcoming
- 6:24Speaker 4: five track EP Devourens, so it represents the EP in
- 6:28Speaker 4: a sense, So why choose this particular song.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Well, more importantly, I think we sort of built this
- 6:36Speaker 1: EP from the birth of Carnography in a way, because
- 6:40Speaker 1: they've had Carnography in the back pocket for a while
- 6:42Speaker 1: and it was just like I said, I think we
- 6:44Speaker 1: found out DNA with this track.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Since then, the boys have just been grinding out.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I mean, like Blair and Dan Urgatyres writing songs. We're
- 6:56Speaker 1: all just practicing when we can and whatnot. But the
- 6:59Speaker 1: Virrence is going to be made up of five tracks.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Chinography is going to be in there, and it's going
- 7:04Speaker 1: to be our heaviest to date and we can't wait
- 7:06Speaker 1: to share it and it'll be out sometime this year.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Now, you mentioned the tracking zoomed before AND's heavier direction.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I guess started with that song.
- 7:16Speaker 4: So is this EP you going to be more of
- 7:18Speaker 4: the same, Like, is this what you expect from you
- 7:20Speaker 4: guys moving forward?
- 7:23Speaker 3: Well, we're going to be going for heavier.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Really, we're just trying to, I don't know, just put
- 7:30Speaker 1: it all out there because that's what we do when
- 7:32Speaker 1: we're in the band room, when we practice and stuff.
- 7:34Speaker 1: That's what we do when we get together like real
- 7:37Speaker 1: best mates, and we love it.
- 7:38Speaker 3: But this is our passion.
- 7:40Speaker 1: We just love playing heavy music and as well as
- 7:44Speaker 1: just trying to tap into.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Being a bit more.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Better in certain aspects of different things like for me personally,
- 7:52Speaker 1: trying to get better at different vocal techniques and whatever else.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But a lot of that is quite hard when every
- 8:01Speaker 1: other aspect of trying to be a band, all that
- 8:03Speaker 1: stuff comes into it. But we're really just trying to
- 8:06Speaker 1: make everything a whole lot heavier to our previous material.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Do I want to say heavy, eat, chock and vocally musically.
- 8:13Speaker 1: All the above, yeah, all around, guitars, drums, vocals. I
- 8:19Speaker 1: guess we're all from a background like for me, I'm
- 8:22Speaker 1: the odd one out in the band.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I'm a metalcore kid.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I killed the prom Queen, things like that. And
- 8:31Speaker 1: these boys are from a background of like a thrash background,
- 8:34Speaker 1: pan Tera, death Metal, Nile, all that sort of stuff.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So to come together and bring it all in is
- 8:42Speaker 1: really nice. And that's what is making up for Rim,
- 8:46Speaker 1: which you guys will see in the Devarans EP.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Nice and what is the rest of twenty twenty six
- 8:52Speaker 4: and beyond look like.
- 8:53Speaker 1: For At the moment, we're really working on trying to
- 8:57Speaker 1: get this EP done in the background, so recorded, mix
- 9:00Speaker 1: and mastered and whatnot, as well as we're trying to
- 9:03Speaker 1: line up some shows. But the biggest thing right now
- 9:07Speaker 1: is for us is to get this EP mixed, mastered,
- 9:12Speaker 1: recorded in the back pocket so that we can start
- 9:15Speaker 1: planning ahead and getting some shows lined up, some tours
- 9:18Speaker 1: by insane that there's anyone out there listening to this
- 9:21Speaker 1: that wants to get for Rim, give us a hand out,
- 9:24Speaker 1: or wants to see a show wherever hit us up.
- 9:28Speaker 4: No, no, no frecking harm, self pluging man. What's the
- 9:31Speaker 4: best place for people.
- 9:32Speaker 2: To keep up to day with the band?
- 9:34Speaker 1: Absolutely well? Facebook, Instagram, TikTok as well. We've also got
- 9:39Speaker 1: a website you can go check you out on our socials.
- 9:42Speaker 1: We're on all music platforms, Apple Music, Spotify, things like that.
- 9:47Speaker 1: In particular, for Chinography, you can pre save it now
- 9:51Speaker 1: Spotify the track itself, but the music video. Really want
- 9:55Speaker 1: to pump that, guys. If you can go and through
- 9:57Speaker 1: some love around that over on YouTube, you can pre
- 10:01Speaker 1: save it now this Saturday, the twenty first of the
- 10:03Speaker 1: second have to give a massive shout out to Mike
- 10:06Speaker 1: Drewbetskoff from EOL Studios for mix and mastering Carnography at
- 10:12Speaker 1: a shout out to Luke Shredder for letting us record
- 10:14Speaker 1: drums again here in Towntall.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Sans say Bro and Carnography is out this Saturday, February
- 10:20Speaker 4: twenty first. Is bloody good song so best of Luck
- 10:22Speaker 4: with It, which being premiered through Heavy this Friday, the
- 10:26Speaker 4: twenty February at five pm Queensland. So if you want
- 10:28Speaker 4: to get a sneak beak, get in there.
