- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, I miss you guys. No, you don't, I really do.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I've been thinking a lot about you, have you while
- 0:07Speaker 1: you were hanging out with Harrison Ford. I have been
- 0:09Speaker 1: hanging out with Harrison Ford. You guys, it's pretty insane.
- 0:12Speaker 1: So you've been thinking about us while you were hanging
- 0:14Speaker 1: out with her. My nephew, I find that hard to believe.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I sent my picture. I sent my nephew a picture
- 0:20Speaker 1: of me directing Harrison Ford, and he said, this is
- 0:25Speaker 1: what do you call It? Was like a bad guy
- 0:26Speaker 1: in a movie, like the Origin story? Yeah, villain's story.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so wrote my nephew wrote, this is Donald's
- 0:37Speaker 1: villain origin story. Oh my god. I love him for
- 0:42Speaker 1: that because he's absolutely he's fun. Oh that's how it happens.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I gotta tell you the funniest thing. So I'm i'm,
- 0:49Speaker 1: i'm I'm directing this show with Harrison Ford and Jason
- 0:52Speaker 1: Siegel and I'm having so much fun. But I drive
- 0:55Speaker 1: on the Warner Brothers lot and everybody's got COVID. But
- 1:00Speaker 1: by the way, yeah, that's not what I was gonna say.
- 1:02Speaker 1: But there's been like a spike La Counties, like kind
- 1:06Speaker 1: of we'll have to put masks back on inside again.
- 1:09Speaker 1: But it was in the news that like, like one
- 1:11Speaker 1: of the major hotsputs was the Warner Brothers lot. We
- 1:14Speaker 1: just remember shooting, so obviously we're being so strict about
- 1:18Speaker 1: masks and testing and everything. And anyway, I'm driving on
- 1:21Speaker 1: the Warner Brothers lot, which, for those of you who
- 1:22Speaker 1: don't know in Hollywood is is you know, you see
- 1:25Speaker 1: it actually in the beginning of Warner Brothers movies they
- 1:27Speaker 1: show all those giant airplane hangar looking things. It's a
- 1:29Speaker 1: very special place. It's where they've been making one of
- 1:32Speaker 1: the places they've been making movies since the thirties, where
- 1:34Speaker 1: it all began. Every stage has a listed on the
- 1:37Speaker 1: on a plaque outside the door, all the movies and
- 1:39Speaker 1: TV shows that have been filmed there. And it's just
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm kidding me. Is still geeked out every single time
- 1:44Speaker 1: I'm working on one of these lots and I drive on,
- 1:47Speaker 1: I pull into the gate and the guard says, welcome back,
- 1:51Speaker 1: mister Braff, I really love you. On Bill's podcast, Russ's
- 2:00Speaker 1: fucked up, man, It's hilarious what I'm backhanded compliment. No,
- 2:04Speaker 1: he was being silly. He's a fan and he listens.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You know, honesty, this is Bill's podcast. What I really
- 2:09Speaker 1: think about it, I mean, it's our podcast, but we
- 2:12Speaker 1: talk about pretty much everything Bill Lawrence on this. It's
- 2:15Speaker 1: all Bill all the time. Yeah. Well, I'm working with
- 2:18Speaker 1: him and I'm having so much fun. He's so good
- 2:20Speaker 1: at what he does and he's so funny. And Jason
- 2:22Speaker 1: Segels so cool. Couldn't be a nicer fellow. That's oh yes,
- 2:27Speaker 1: love to hear that. And Christ's in it and she's hilarious.
- 2:31Speaker 1: But of course the big story is Harrison Ford, who
- 2:33Speaker 1: said my name like for the first time, and I
- 2:36Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, he knows who I am?
- 2:39Speaker 1: How long did it take your name? Well, like day
- 2:42Speaker 1: one and two? You know, I was just, you know,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I think they're all um. He's getting used to the
- 2:46Speaker 1: idea that on series TV, the directors different every week,
- 2:50Speaker 1: so I think that, like, you know, he's never done
- 2:52Speaker 1: that before, right, And so at first I think he
- 2:55Speaker 1: was a little like, you know, he's super warm and
- 2:57Speaker 1: kind obviously, but he I think he's just a little like,
- 3:01Speaker 1: you know, this is weird. The director changes every week
- 3:02Speaker 1: kind of vibes That's what I felt. But then you know,
- 3:06Speaker 1: I think I'm pretty good at it, and he I
- 3:08Speaker 1: think since that actually he told me so much so
- 3:11Speaker 1: he started learning my name and then he was like
- 3:17Speaker 1: the best thing to happen the other day. It was
- 3:18Speaker 1: like one thing to be like, um, you know, is
- 3:20Speaker 1: this where you want me? On mark? But it was
- 3:23Speaker 1: another like the other day. He asked me like a
- 3:25Speaker 1: like a like an acting note. He was like, Zach,
- 3:29Speaker 1: do you think it's more like Zach? Do you think I?
- 3:31Speaker 1: And I was like, oh my god, he knows my
- 3:32Speaker 1: name and it appears to me he's acting. He's asking
- 3:35Speaker 1: me an acting question. Were you able to Yeah? It
- 3:39Speaker 1: was like about should I play it more? Do you
- 3:40Speaker 1: think it's better more like this? Or should I be?
- 3:42Speaker 1: Or do you think the character is more like this?
- 3:43Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh my god, we're not just talking
- 3:45Speaker 1: blocking now, we're talking like performance. This is amazing. It's
- 3:51Speaker 1: so cool, man, it's so cool. Do you want it?
- 3:53Speaker 1: The funniest shit there was a character that they ran
- 3:56Speaker 1: I think randomly named Luke, just like like a someone
- 3:59Speaker 1: he references and I didn't put two and two together,
- 4:02Speaker 1: but he's like, which one of you is Luke? I
- 4:04Speaker 1: was like, oh, one god, he said Luke. He said Luke,
- 4:09Speaker 1: and then at a certain point you forgot the name.
- 4:10Speaker 1: He goes, what's his name? I go, you know the
- 4:12Speaker 1: name Luke, and everybody laughed. It's just so crazy. I mean, like,
- 4:17Speaker 1: there aren't that many movie stars anymore, you know what
- 4:19Speaker 1: I mean. He was one of the last movie stars.
- 4:23Speaker 1: There's one movie star. One moviem Cruise, No Tom Cruise,
- 4:27Speaker 1: that's Tom Cruise. O Tom Cruise. Did you see Tom Gun?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Did you seem seen it? But it just beat Titanic.
- 4:32Speaker 1: It's it's it's paramount's biggest movie of all time. That true.
- 4:36Speaker 1: He's the one and only seven hundred million just domestically. Yeah,
- 4:41Speaker 1: he's Have you seen it? No? But everybody tells me too,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I haven't seen it. I seen it. I would and
- 4:49Speaker 1: saw it, and I was like, I'm not gonna lie.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I would and saw with hate in my heart as
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm walking into your heart because I'm like that first
- 4:56Speaker 1: movie so cheese, dude, come on, it's bad. It's like,
- 5:00Speaker 1: doesn't I mean, my wife loved my wife That's the
- 5:02Speaker 1: only time I've seen it too. My wife loves it.
- 5:05Speaker 1: She grew up on it. My wife's like if I
- 5:06Speaker 1: got Casey up here right now, she'd be like, oh
- 5:09Speaker 1: my god, right she could. She probably start crying talking
- 5:12Speaker 1: about how much she loved Top Gun as a kid,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Right. So she's been begging
- 5:19Speaker 1: me to go, and I'm like, I don't want to
- 5:20Speaker 1: see that ship. There's no black people in Top Gun.
- 5:23Speaker 1: There's no fucking you know what I mean, Like I'm
- 5:25Speaker 1: going down the list of hate, you know what I mean.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And she goes, come on, let's just go, and I'm like,
- 5:30Speaker 1: no way. So her friend takes her to see it. Right,
- 5:33Speaker 1: her girlfriend takes her to see it, and she comes
- 5:36Speaker 1: back and she's like, Babe, I go to see all
- 5:39Speaker 1: I went and saw a Guardian too, the Galaxy with you.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I go to see all your bullshit, you know what
- 5:44Speaker 1: I mean? This is one thing. She's like, I saw it,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I'm willing to see it again. Please come with me
- 5:52Speaker 1: to see top So I'm walking into the movie like
- 5:55Speaker 1: she threw her she threw guilt at me, you know
- 5:58Speaker 1: what I mean. So I don't want to watch this right. Oh,
- 6:07Speaker 1: he really loved it, audience. He's covering his eyes. He
- 6:10Speaker 1: really loved it, Zach. It's one of the best movies
- 6:14Speaker 1: ever made. Dude, cereal like no bullshit, like no bullshit,
- 6:18Speaker 1: Like I don't know how to explain. I don't know
- 6:22Speaker 1: how to explain because look, I'm a Tom Cruise fan,
- 6:26Speaker 1: but I'm the guy that only sees his movie movies once.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I don't go and see Tom Cruise movies over and
- 6:31Speaker 1: over again. For some reason, that's just not for me.
- 6:33Speaker 1: This there's only a couple of them. Risky business. I've
- 6:37Speaker 1: seen way more than once, you know what I mean. Uh,
- 6:42Speaker 1: and I think maybe cocktails I've seen twice, but you
- 6:46Speaker 1: know what you know, but everything else one time. This movie,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I can't wait for it to come out on streaming
- 6:56Speaker 1: so I can watch it over and dude, it is
- 7:00Speaker 1: so it's so good. It's so good, all right, dude,
- 7:07Speaker 1: Like Tom Cruise is a true movie star man like
- 7:09Speaker 1: I clowned for so long. It's amazing, you know, because
- 7:13Speaker 1: because he's he's the longevity he's had and he's kind
- 7:17Speaker 1: of like the last one standing that can that can
- 7:21Speaker 1: still do that solely on his name. I mean Auntie
- 7:24Speaker 1: top guns of property that people remember from from growing up.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But I mean it's just he's just he's like the
- 7:31Speaker 1: last standing bona fide. Did you see the trailer for
- 7:34Speaker 1: the next mission. Impossible. No, holy fuck, dude. Yeo, this
- 7:38Speaker 1: shit looks crazy, dude, this shit looks crazy. Dope, Like,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I can't. I'm sitting there and I'm like, oh my god,
- 7:46Speaker 1: it's caught up to me. Let me tell you something
- 7:49Speaker 1: that I loved that you wouldn't have thought. I loved
- 7:52Speaker 1: Winning Time. I knew you'd love that. I loved it.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And you know the best part about you know, the
- 7:57Speaker 1: best part of that. First of all, you know, the
- 7:59Speaker 1: best part about Winning Time for me is I don't
- 8:01Speaker 1: know the end. So I was joking. I was joking
- 8:06Speaker 1: with Jason Siegel, who's one of the stars and who's incredible,
- 8:09Speaker 1: and all the all the performances in that show are excellent,
- 8:13Speaker 1: every single actor, and Would Wood Harris isn't there. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:18Speaker 1: he plays. Oh he's gonna win an award. He's incredible.
- 8:21Speaker 1: He does a great job in it. And Tracy Letts
- 8:24Speaker 1: and and of course John c. Rally. Anyway, I loved it.
- 8:26Speaker 1: But the funny thing I was joking was Jason Siegel
- 8:28Speaker 1: and Bill Lawrence, both big sports fans. I was like,
- 8:31Speaker 1: the funny thing for me watching is I don't know
- 8:33Speaker 1: the ending. So I'm so caught up in it, and
- 8:36Speaker 1: I find myself like alone in my house when they
- 8:39Speaker 1: when they beat Boston U and like my arms are
- 8:42Speaker 1: going up in the air like I'm alone, and I'm
- 8:44Speaker 1: like cheering from my from my gus. No idea. And
- 8:49Speaker 1: then Jason was like, you know when we went in
- 8:51Speaker 1: the end, and I was like, spoilers. I was like,
- 8:53Speaker 1: He's like, oh, most people know that, but I'm telling
- 9:01Speaker 1: you the audience if you're not. Obviously, if you're a
- 9:04Speaker 1: sports fan, you gotta watch it. But even if you're
- 9:06Speaker 1: not a sports fan, Um, it's incredible and you won't
- 9:09Speaker 1: you won't know how it unfolds. Um, and that obviously
- 9:12Speaker 1: they're going to continue with because it's so good. I'm
- 9:15Speaker 1: nineteen eighty, What do ye do? Seventy nine? It was
- 9:18Speaker 1: seventy nine? No, I think they won an eighty. I
- 9:20Speaker 1: believe seventy nine. Eighties? So what year just Jordan, do
- 9:23Speaker 1: you know what year he comes into the picture. He's
- 9:26Speaker 1: a few years later. Oh, because I'm interested now, I mean,
- 9:29Speaker 1: I know they're I know they're going to continue. Would
- 9:31Speaker 1: be interesting to know if if they go right after
- 9:33Speaker 1: or if they jump a few years and wait till
- 9:35Speaker 1: Jordan comes into the mix. Well they should go right
- 9:37Speaker 1: after because the story, that's what's up four. Oh, there
- 9:42Speaker 1: you go. I didn't know that Larry Bird was such
- 9:45Speaker 1: an asshole to him to magic and this is based
- 9:48Speaker 1: on a true story. Come on now, No, but I
- 9:51Speaker 1: think I think that they've said, and Bill told me
- 9:54Speaker 1: that they've they've since become obviously in the years since
- 9:57Speaker 1: they become friends, and they um and and Larry acknowledged
- 10:01Speaker 1: that he was a Jerry that's what Bill said at least.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Well look, okay, so here's the thing, here's what I understand.
- 10:07Speaker 1: A lot of this we can't like because I understand it. Uh,
- 10:11Speaker 1: Jerry West is a little upset about how he definitely
- 10:14Speaker 1: doesn't definitely doesn't how he's portrayed in this. I think
- 10:18Speaker 1: he comes off fine to be he comes, but in
- 10:21Speaker 1: the beginning, you're like, this is the worst person in
- 10:22Speaker 1: the world and on the planet, right, And I don't
- 10:25Speaker 1: think anybody wants to be portrayed is that? But uh,
- 10:28Speaker 1: you know, from everything that from everything that I understand
- 10:32Speaker 1: and watching sports through my eyes, obviously, Uh, he what
- 10:36Speaker 1: he's done for the Laker organization, the Memphis organization, like
- 10:41Speaker 1: he's brought in like Kobe Bryant is by far. You know,
- 10:46Speaker 1: that's him, Shack organizing the deal to get shocked to La.
- 10:51Speaker 1: That's him so he can keep the story going for
- 10:54Speaker 1: a long time. Oh man, dude, he's he's, he really
- 10:58Speaker 1: is the reason why the town and pool and that
- 11:01Speaker 1: like his his his eye for talent when other people
- 11:05Speaker 1: can't see it is amazing, Like he could tell you
- 11:07Speaker 1: who's going to be good and who's not gonna be
- 11:09Speaker 1: all you gotta do want to be a Laker fan
- 11:11Speaker 1: as the eighties get As the eighties go on, you'll
- 11:14Speaker 1: see this man like people like Kurt Rambis comes in
- 11:19Speaker 1: and plays for the Lakers, and you're like, who the
- 11:22Speaker 1: heck is this guy? A happy When Daryl Dawkins appeared
- 11:26Speaker 1: at the end as a seventy six er, Yeah, because
- 11:29Speaker 1: you know, as I've told you before, he was he
- 11:32Speaker 1: was all I knew about basketball, and my dad would
- 11:34Speaker 1: drag me to go see the nets. But then you know,
- 11:37Speaker 1: he's he's, uh, he's portrayed in the end. Wait before
- 11:41Speaker 1: we maybe want to be a Laker fan though, dude,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I really, like I realized if you're if you know
- 11:47Speaker 1: all the stories, I mean that it's gonna sound idiotic
- 11:49Speaker 1: to people who love sports, But bear with me. If
- 11:52Speaker 1: you know all the soap opera and you know all
- 11:54Speaker 1: the drama and you know the everyone's unique stories, I
- 11:58Speaker 1: can totally understand how you be so invested and excited
- 12:01Speaker 1: about it. Okay, So for the few point times in
- 12:05Speaker 1: my life where I've gotten to hang out with NBA players,
- 12:09Speaker 1: like on a chill level, it's been with I've been
- 12:14Speaker 1: invited to Jerry Buss's suite and got to sit next
- 12:17Speaker 1: to him and Magic Johnson before he passed away. Wow.
- 12:21Speaker 1: And then one time I got to hang out I
- 12:23Speaker 1: was hanging out with Leo and Jerry Buss in uh
- 12:28Speaker 1: in the lounge that the Laker lounge. That he's really right,
- 12:33Speaker 1: So he continued it going at Staple Center. Yeah, and
- 12:37Speaker 1: its team. Now I've been at a forum and stuff
- 12:40Speaker 1: like I was. I've seen him play at the forum
- 12:41Speaker 1: when they were at the forum too interesting back in
- 12:44Speaker 1: the day before they moved, before they moved to I've
- 12:49Speaker 1: been out in LA for a while. Bro. No, I
- 12:51Speaker 1: didn't know what year they moved to the Staple Center
- 12:53Speaker 1: or whatever it's called. Now it's called a Bitcoin Arena
- 12:57Speaker 1: or something. Anyway, both times I made an ass out
- 12:59Speaker 1: of myself. One time I was trying to be like,
- 13:02Speaker 1: you know, in the mix because they brought up money,
- 13:04Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, yeah, let's talk about money.
- 13:06Speaker 1: And I could tell that everybody was like, you dumbass,
- 13:08Speaker 1: this is Jerry Buss. What do you do? This in
- 13:12Speaker 1: your head's analyzing him in my mind, that's what I thought.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And then the other time. Then the other time I
- 13:19Speaker 1: was like, well, because look it's true, Jerry would make
- 13:23Speaker 1: it so and this is this is just from the
- 13:27Speaker 1: little bit of experience that I had and watching the
- 13:30Speaker 1: show when you went and hung out, it really did
- 13:33Speaker 1: feel like that where there were just like a lot
- 13:35Speaker 1: of beautiful women around. There was a lot of food,
- 13:38Speaker 1: a lot of drink, and freaking you're watching basketball and
- 13:41Speaker 1: you're having a great time. Right. He created that environment,
- 13:44Speaker 1: He created like the Playboy mansion meets sports. Yeah, and
- 13:50Speaker 1: he did that successfully. And watching this and watching this
- 13:55Speaker 1: show and watching John c Riley play this guy who's
- 13:58Speaker 1: so like on the urge of failure, really like this
- 14:02Speaker 1: whole time, all it takes is just a little bit,
- 14:05Speaker 1: just that one straw. We're just waiting for that one straw,
- 14:08Speaker 1: But especially if you don't know the outcome of the story.
- 14:11Speaker 1: If you know the outcome of the story, everything's gonna
- 14:14Speaker 1: be all right, right, everything until until until Jason Siegel
- 14:18Speaker 1: ruined it for me, gave me spoilers, right, He's like,
- 14:20Speaker 1: they're not really spoilers, right, But if you don't but
- 14:24Speaker 1: if you don't know, but if you do know, just
- 14:27Speaker 1: watching like, dang, they had he had this much going
- 14:30Speaker 1: against him. I didn't know it was that close. If
- 14:33Speaker 1: he would have lost that game, if they didn't win
- 14:35Speaker 1: the championship. Yeah, and Kareem going in at the out
- 14:40Speaker 1: at the end, and the person of all the actors
- 14:42Speaker 1: who I think are unknown to most people. I've never
- 14:45Speaker 1: seen them before, but the gentleman playing Kareem and the
- 14:48Speaker 1: gentleman playing Magic, and they're so good. There's so dude,
- 14:52Speaker 1: do you know the dude playing bus to dude playing
- 14:55Speaker 1: freaking West. All of them would like you said, at all, Man,
- 14:59Speaker 1: like amazing, that's amazing. What's gonna win the award? Man?
- 15:03Speaker 1: He's fucking heat. And that last episode when he does
- 15:06Speaker 1: that monologue about his childhood, I'm getting goosebumps thinking about it.
- 15:11Speaker 1: It was so good. Did he can nominate it. No,
- 15:13Speaker 1: I think it will be next year, but um right,
- 15:16Speaker 1: you well I don't believe. So I don't know. All
- 15:19Speaker 1: I know because because the Emmys just came out, just
- 15:23Speaker 1: came out, it would be okay. Anyway, all I know
- 15:25Speaker 1: is this, it's been up. I thought he he would
- 15:27Speaker 1: get nominated for this. But anyway, all I know is this,
- 15:30Speaker 1: if they do another season and they skip ahead, okay, Well,
- 15:34Speaker 1: if they skip ahead, I think they're doing a disservice
- 15:36Speaker 1: because there's something really special about Magic Johnson and Larry
- 15:40Speaker 1: Bird after that season. Uh and and and uh them
- 15:45Speaker 1: developing their friendship. There's something really dope about the Boston
- 15:50Speaker 1: Lake or rivalry and but not just that, just the
- 15:52Speaker 1: two of them, and you gotta build on that. You
- 15:55Speaker 1: gotta build on it. I'm thinking, like I was just thinking.
- 15:57Speaker 1: The very little I know is that, like at a
- 15:59Speaker 1: certain point, Organ comes into the mix, and that's gonna
- 16:01Speaker 1: be really interesting too. Well when Jordan comes into mix,
- 16:04Speaker 1: HIV comes in in a mix too, like well they
- 16:06Speaker 1: end this, they start this, remember talking about them getting diagnosed. Yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 1: like Jordan, should we get in Absolutely, we could totally
- 16:13Speaker 1: get in the show. I just want to say one thing.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Eat these balls, zachn eat these balls Zach five, six, seven, eight.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Stories about show we made about a bunch of nurses,
- 16:30Speaker 1: said the stories. Never so yeadoo around here, yeadoo around here.
- 16:45Speaker 1: How are you, man? I'm good, man, I'm good. I
- 16:47Speaker 1: miss you, I miss your face. You look good. I
- 16:50Speaker 1: feel like I've been run over by a truck. Dude. Why, well, first,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I'm smoking some of the best weed you've ever smoked
- 16:58Speaker 1: in your life. Why two, man, these kids, it's summertime
- 17:03Speaker 1: and it's real in the field, and the tricks that
- 17:06Speaker 1: we were using in the beginning are no longer tricks.
- 17:09Speaker 1: They become habits and they can't be habits. Or this
- 17:12Speaker 1: kid or both of these kids are going to go
- 17:14Speaker 1: back to school not prepared for the grades that they're
- 17:17Speaker 1: going into, and so we're it's a crunch time mode
- 17:21Speaker 1: now because we're at the end of the year, at
- 17:22Speaker 1: the end of summer and uh, it's been a lot
- 17:26Speaker 1: of fun, but preparation for the school year has begun.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Oh you mean you mean like they gotta they gotta
- 17:32Speaker 1: do like a homework or what do you mean, like
- 17:35Speaker 1: you know, just like just like yeah, behavior wise, training
- 17:39Speaker 1: the brain to get ready to go back to school.
- 17:42Speaker 1: You know, Rocco's going in the third grade. That's a
- 17:44Speaker 1: big deal. Man, Things get real at that age, you
- 17:47Speaker 1: know what I mean. Homeboys comes home, you know. And
- 17:50Speaker 1: so I saw them, I saw them both kicking ass
- 17:53Speaker 1: on the basketball court. Well, they're good at sports, you know, Roco.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Those videos you posted, Roccos killing it, dude, Dude Wilder, Dude,
- 18:02Speaker 1: I love Rocco Rocco guy game, and I've seen it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: But I just can't get over the fact that my
- 18:07Speaker 1: daughter is the smallest one on her team. She's you know,
- 18:12Speaker 1: very very like, very very shy, you know, when meeting people,
- 18:17Speaker 1: like I took her to the Zombie three premiere and
- 18:19Speaker 1: when she met all of the stars. At first, it
- 18:21Speaker 1: was like taking her on a ride to Disneyland where
- 18:24Speaker 1: she didn't want to get on and didn't. After it
- 18:26Speaker 1: was over, she was the best ride ever and wanted
- 18:27Speaker 1: to put again and again and again right right right,
- 18:32Speaker 1: and so like doing basketball is kind of the same thing.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Where you would think she'd get on the court and
- 18:38Speaker 1: she'd be afraid to play, and at first she was,
- 18:41Speaker 1: but once she got in there, like now, we can't
- 18:44Speaker 1: get her off the court. Unless she's extremely tired and
- 18:47Speaker 1: she goes hard, dude, and she could get She's aggressive
- 18:51Speaker 1: and I would have never expected that from Wilder, but
- 18:54Speaker 1: she's like extremely aggressive, like the if the ball is
- 18:59Speaker 1: near her, she's going for it. And it's really it's
- 19:02Speaker 1: it's amazing to watch you created two little minimes. Well,
- 19:06Speaker 1: I didn't play basketball growing up. I was a theater guy,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you know what I know. But you love basketball. So
- 19:11Speaker 1: it's just as sweet that they that they love it too,
- 19:13Speaker 1: and you can share that. I'm trying to keep them
- 19:15Speaker 1: away from theaters. One of Like, it's really interesting because
- 19:18Speaker 1: it's happened with your daughter. Your daughter is a performer.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I know I got to send you to videos from
- 19:23Speaker 1: dance camp, but she's such a performer. There's no way
- 19:27Speaker 1: that girl is not going to be a dancer or
- 19:29Speaker 1: an actress or something. Yeah, we'll see. All right, let's
- 19:32Speaker 1: talk about the show Scrubs. Everybody Elliott says, yes, my
- 19:35Speaker 1: cold shower. Now. One of the funniest things about the episode,
- 19:38Speaker 1: mistake wise, is obviously none of us wanted to really
- 19:40Speaker 1: get in a cold shower, so you can see a
- 19:42Speaker 1: giant red mark on all of our chests when we're
- 19:44Speaker 1: supposedly taking a cold shower, is especially mine. It was
- 19:49Speaker 1: a set shower, you know, so they bring in like
- 19:51Speaker 1: a hot water tank. But I remember, I'm laughing at
- 19:55Speaker 1: every time they cut to me, is a giant red
- 19:57Speaker 1: spot in the middle of my chest, and I'm like,
- 20:00Speaker 1: that's not a nice cold shower, bro, that's a hot shower. Um.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Director by John Inwood, who is our cinematographer for almost
- 20:07Speaker 1: every single episode of Scrubs, and he directed this one.
- 20:12Speaker 1: He didn't, And Elliott says yes. Well, Eliot says yes,
- 20:17Speaker 1: but then the ring doesn't fit and she's just livid.
- 20:20Speaker 1: And then the fricks come, here, come the fricks. Just
- 20:22Speaker 1: put the mother fricking ring on my mother fricking hand.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Frick frick on a stick with a brick frick first
- 20:33Speaker 1: sounds really bad, even though it's just frick. Um. Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So Elliot was pissed because she's been she's been wanting
- 20:42Speaker 1: this moment for her whole life, and she had it
- 20:44Speaker 1: all planned, and she planned what she was gonna say, yes,
- 20:46Speaker 1: oh my god, yes, and when the finger, when the
- 20:49Speaker 1: ring doesn't fit her finger, the whole thing's ruined. And
- 20:52Speaker 1: Keith offers that the opportunity that she can replan the
- 20:56Speaker 1: whole thing. Okay, I gotta call Casey because this is
- 21:00Speaker 1: my life. Okay, play the song down, come down here.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I don't know nothing about the schools'll tell me what
- 21:10Speaker 1: to do these kids and that's what to do this. Yeah,
- 21:16Speaker 1: you did do that. Okay, Now let me set this
- 21:19Speaker 1: sec Zacha love Zacha love za za za zach zach
- 21:24Speaker 1: I love you. Hey, will you plan your own proposal?
- 21:27Speaker 1: What happened? So look, let me set the story. Let
- 21:29Speaker 1: me set it up. She and I had been dating
- 21:32Speaker 1: for a long time when we first met. Yeah, when
- 21:34Speaker 1: we first met, I said, she said to me. Sorry,
- 21:37Speaker 1: She said to me, look, I don't want to get
- 21:41Speaker 1: married and I don't want to have children, and so
- 21:45Speaker 1: check right, oh check, let's go home and yeah yeah okay,
- 21:51Speaker 1: yeah yeah, I was like, check, let's go do it
- 21:52Speaker 1: right anyway. Cut two, We're now dating for seven years,
- 22:00Speaker 1: seven years at this point, and she's now on that
- 22:04Speaker 1: shit or get off the pot. I wanted a baby.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I didn't want to get married, but I wanted a baby, right,
- 22:10Speaker 1: And then we tried to have a baby and it
- 22:12Speaker 1: was not working right. So my doctor was like, you
- 22:15Speaker 1: should pick up a hobby, and so Donald said, why
- 22:19Speaker 1: don't you plan a wedding? Oh? So I was like, okay, now,
- 22:26Speaker 1: don't even try that ship. I don't even try that ship.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So I was like, oh, don't try that shit. I
- 22:31Speaker 1: needed to take my mind off of getting pregnant and
- 22:34Speaker 1: focus on something. So I said, we have a little
- 22:37Speaker 1: wedding in the little backyard. Wedding in your backyard's act. No,
- 22:40Speaker 1: that's not how this happened. I started working on that. No,
- 22:44Speaker 1: but thanking. I didn't want to get married, but I
- 22:48Speaker 1: wanted a ring, right, So I knew exactly what I wanted.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And so look, so I'm like, I'm gonna get her
- 22:56Speaker 1: a ring, But in my mind, I'm like, I'm going
- 22:58Speaker 1: to Tiffany's to get this ring out, get her a
- 23:00Speaker 1: ring from Tiffany. She's and I tell her I'm gonna
- 23:02Speaker 1: get a ring from Tiffany's. And she's like, what don't
- 23:05Speaker 1: you freaking do that? Well, because in my mind I
- 23:08Speaker 1: knew I'd get a ring from Tiffany's and I won't
- 23:10Speaker 1: get nothing else. She said, don't spend too much money
- 23:16Speaker 1: on the money, Like, let's be let's be practical, all right,
- 23:22Speaker 1: let's go on the ring hunt. Let's go on the
- 23:24Speaker 1: diamond hunt. So she and I go to different places
- 23:28Speaker 1: and we go looking at diamonds. We went to every
- 23:31Speaker 1: diamond store. We learned about diamond learned about diamonds, learned
- 23:35Speaker 1: about clarity and everything. And so finally we find this
- 23:38Speaker 1: guy named Jason right, yeah, Jason Hills. Yes, give him
- 23:43Speaker 1: a shout out, love, you give him a shout out,
- 23:46Speaker 1: and somehow convinced him to give us this really big
- 23:51Speaker 1: diamond for a certain amount of money. I'm not gonna
- 23:54Speaker 1: say how much it is. My god, this is what.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Off the side roads and onto the freeway. He's like,
- 23:59Speaker 1: when do you want it delivered? And what did you say? Case,
- 24:05Speaker 1: I don't know. You were like, I have a bunch
- 24:06Speaker 1: of things that I have to do on this day.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Can we have it by whatever day? It was that yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 1: And you're like and I'm like, all right, bet. So
- 24:19Speaker 1: that day comes, She's like, I'm gonna wait at home. No,
- 24:23Speaker 1: you're wrong. Yeah, we were supposed to go pick it up.
- 24:26Speaker 1: We were supposed to go pick it up. And I
- 24:29Speaker 1: came home and I was like, you need to be showered.
- 24:31Speaker 1: We're meeting him at two o'clock. I want my ring.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Before they closed, he said he's going out of town
- 24:37Speaker 1: and won't be back for six days. And I'm like, nope,
- 24:39Speaker 1: we're coming today. I want this ring today, right. And
- 24:44Speaker 1: so you were running late, you were showering. I was
- 24:46Speaker 1: pissed off because you were taking your sweet ass time
- 24:48Speaker 1: in the shower and I was downstairs and join at
- 24:52Speaker 1: the house. Yes I was, And then you said, oh
- 24:54Speaker 1: my god, I gotta find my phone. You ran down
- 24:57Speaker 1: in the garage and I'm pissed off. And then you
- 25:00Speaker 1: come back in through the studio at the Willow Glens
- 25:04Speaker 1: and you opened you hand me the box, and I'm like,
- 25:06Speaker 1: you ain't got this ring without me. She's making up
- 25:10Speaker 1: number you don't remember. That sounds kind of romantic. I'm
- 25:13Speaker 1: going to accept that. I'm apt that's exactly how it happened,
- 25:17Speaker 1: because down on one knee you came into the house.
- 25:21Speaker 1: You came running into the house like this is it here?
- 25:25Speaker 1: Oh maybe I just stood over him coming out of
- 25:31Speaker 1: the garage. And I don't remember if he got down
- 25:33Speaker 1: on one knee. All I remember is that he opened
- 25:36Speaker 1: the box, and part well before you opened the box,
- 25:39Speaker 1: part of me was pissed off. This fucker went and
- 25:41Speaker 1: got this ring without me, and I didn't get to
- 25:43Speaker 1: proof it first, like this is my ring regardless, Like
- 25:47Speaker 1: I wanted to make sure it look good before we
- 25:49Speaker 1: took it, and so I'm pissed off kind of. And
- 25:53Speaker 1: then he opened the box and I remember the box
- 25:55Speaker 1: had a fucking light in it. Yeah, and the ring
- 25:58Speaker 1: was finished, whoa And I was like, and it was
- 26:05Speaker 1: the bigger diamond. Oh you didn't know that, no, because
- 26:09Speaker 1: we had two diamonds to choose from. And I was like,
- 26:12Speaker 1: I think I'll be happy with that with this size. Really,
- 26:16Speaker 1: you know, I'm like, I do like that big one,
- 26:18Speaker 1: but I know we can't afford that big one. But
- 26:20Speaker 1: I got the big one, yes. And then the best
- 26:24Speaker 1: part to the best part, I got the big one,
- 26:30Speaker 1: the best part. He was like, I love you. I
- 26:32Speaker 1: love you, and I was like, oh my god. I
- 26:34Speaker 1: was like, can I go show my friends? And I
- 26:36Speaker 1: left and went over to Jessica's house and all my
- 26:38Speaker 1: friends came over and I and I left Donald on
- 26:40Speaker 1: the couch to pass out, and I didn't come until
- 26:43Speaker 1: midnight that night. So romantic. He was so mad at me.
- 26:50Speaker 1: All Right, we gotta get on the show. Thank you,
- 26:53Speaker 1: We love you, We love you, love you. Love that story.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Everybody likes a little ass play dude. All right, Um,
- 27:11Speaker 1: everybody does like a little ass play Zach. But we
- 27:14Speaker 1: have to talk about the TV show Scrubs. Donald, well,
- 27:16Speaker 1: that has something to do with it, all right, I did.
- 27:18Speaker 1: That's a very sweet story. Um. So everyone throughout the
- 27:21Speaker 1: episode has fantasies about what it would be like if
- 27:24Speaker 1: they were married to Elliott, and yours is by far
- 27:26Speaker 1: the funniest. I laughed out loud. You play like a
- 27:30Speaker 1: preppy guy with the sweater around his and she says, um,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I'm jumping ahead, but she says, keep an eye on Lupita.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I think some of the silverware has gone missing. Now
- 27:44Speaker 1: let me ask you a question, do you think? And
- 27:46Speaker 1: then you turn around and you see this beautiful Latina
- 27:51Speaker 1: woman and a maid's outfit and bent over in a
- 27:53Speaker 1: maid's outfit, and Donald turcos, I'll talk to her, and
- 28:01Speaker 1: then you reveal that it's Carla, and he picks her
- 28:05Speaker 1: up and they go upstairs to make out, and he's like, damn,
- 28:07Speaker 1: I'm having fantasies about my own wife. That's it's been
- 28:09Speaker 1: so long since we had sex. Yeah, let me ask
- 28:13Speaker 1: you a question. In that fantasy that this is gonna
- 28:15Speaker 1: get a little weird. Do you think that Turk and
- 28:21Speaker 1: Lupeta Carla. Do you think she's using him for the
- 28:26Speaker 1: fact that he is rich and married and she's just
- 28:32Speaker 1: trying to, you know, get that money, or do you
- 28:35Speaker 1: think she's in love with him and they're going to
- 28:36Speaker 1: create the like in the timeline of Turkey Carla meant
- 28:40Speaker 1: to be even in the dream. This is such a
- 28:42Speaker 1: weird No, I think that Lupeta is truly in love
- 28:45Speaker 1: with Turk and uh and they're gonna run away one day. Well,
- 28:49Speaker 1: that's the whole joke of it, is like he's supposed
- 28:50Speaker 1: to be having a fantasy about another woman, but he's
- 28:53Speaker 1: fantasizing about his own wife. Okay, I'm gonna say one
- 28:56Speaker 1: more thing. I do fantasize about my own eye. I know.
- 28:58Speaker 1: That's why you guys are so sweet together. It's funny.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I get the joke and everything like that, But in
- 29:03Speaker 1: real life, like well, speaking of real life, much like
- 29:06Speaker 1: your character, a Turk needs sex and she she has
- 29:10Speaker 1: not given sex because she's not in a very long time,
- 29:13Speaker 1: because she's post had a baby and she's not feeling
- 29:16Speaker 1: it yet. Yeah, and um, and Turk is dying because
- 29:20Speaker 1: he really needs to be satisfied. Yes, we learned that
- 29:24Speaker 1: Tod hasn't been late at all. You think that he's
- 29:27Speaker 1: a prolific, but he holds up a zero and goes
- 29:30Speaker 1: When the Jenner asked him, help woman, how many times
- 29:32Speaker 1: he's had sex this year, he goes, Bagel, Well, I
- 29:35Speaker 1: want to go back because we didn't talk about this.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Everybody is really not concerned, but sad for JD that
- 29:44Speaker 1: he didn't get the girl right. He's acting like he
- 29:46Speaker 1: doesn't care, and he's acting like he and for the
- 29:49Speaker 1: most part at this point he doesn't care. One of
- 29:52Speaker 1: the favorite of my favorite lines is pretty girls end
- 29:54Speaker 1: up don't end up with the ugos, and he goes, no,
- 29:56Speaker 1: he goes, pretty girls end up with the ugos Only
- 29:59Speaker 1: in the movi. Yeah, only in the movie. And when
- 30:01Speaker 1: he goes sadly, the Kelso says it to me, sadly,
- 30:04Speaker 1: it's only in the movies where the pretty girl ends
- 30:06Speaker 1: up with the ugo. Yeah, yeah, thanks a lot, Bill,
- 30:14Speaker 1: Leonard Leonard one. It's very funny where he's like, let
- 30:17Speaker 1: me tell you about loss. Yeah, Leonard Leonard holds up
- 30:20Speaker 1: his hook and says, I know about loss Um. Yeah,
- 30:23Speaker 1: everyone's feeling bad for for j D. But j D
- 30:26Speaker 1: is seemingly obsessed for the bulk of the story with
- 30:32Speaker 1: trying to have sex with Kerry Russell's character. But he
- 30:34Speaker 1: doesn't really want to have sex with her. He's being
- 30:37Speaker 1: pressured into having sex with her by his best friend
- 30:39Speaker 1: because his best friend, well he's been pressured inn avosex
- 30:41Speaker 1: with hospital. Yeah, all the men learned that she had
- 30:45Speaker 1: a threesome in college, which is three girls. Yeah, he goes,
- 30:51Speaker 1: you go damn, and all the men hit their table,
- 30:53Speaker 1: which was funny, and then you go, I go, was
- 30:56Speaker 1: it two guys and a girl or a devil's threesome?
- 31:00Speaker 1: She said, three girls? And then I had to pick
- 31:02Speaker 1: the drinks off the table for you to go damn.
- 31:09Speaker 1: So she invites me to the hotel. This is a
- 31:11Speaker 1: bit um bizarre. I mean, it's fine that she just
- 31:15Speaker 1: wants to kiss, but it's it's a little bit bizarre
- 31:18Speaker 1: that she says, hey, come review a hotel room with me,
- 31:22Speaker 1: and Okay, so this is where we're at. Okay, so
- 31:25Speaker 1: this is where we're at now. If it was a
- 31:27Speaker 1: dude and the dude was like, come review a hotel
- 31:29Speaker 1: with me. We'll have a bunch of fun. Hey, let's
- 31:32Speaker 1: test out the bed and all of that stuff. You
- 31:34Speaker 1: wouldn't think anything of it. But because it's a hot chick,
- 31:37Speaker 1: like you know what I mean, Like this, this is
- 31:40Speaker 1: actually coming from the guy. This is coming from the
- 31:42Speaker 1: guy who thought the animation, because this is like a
- 31:47Speaker 1: very mixed signal situation. And now I'm trying to because
- 31:49Speaker 1: what situation where you zone's like, come review a room
- 31:51Speaker 1: with me, please? But is it really? But is it? No? No, no,
- 31:55Speaker 1: this this woman this was like twenty years ago or
- 31:57Speaker 1: if not more. Really, I had no money. Let me
- 32:00Speaker 1: just tell you sorry. I had no money. Never dive
- 32:03Speaker 1: in my name. And I knew a beautiful young woman
- 32:06Speaker 1: who we were We were sort of hanging out, and
- 32:09Speaker 1: she had this deal where she would review hotels and
- 32:12Speaker 1: she her thing was that she had to go stay
- 32:15Speaker 1: in the hotel and use all the services and and
- 32:18Speaker 1: she would invite me when she had the night like
- 32:20Speaker 1: she had to do having to do room service, she
- 32:22Speaker 1: spa and I was broke. It was like the greatest
- 32:25Speaker 1: thing ever. She most definitely um wanted to also hook
- 32:29Speaker 1: up UM, so good. Yeah, that makes sense. Didn't say
- 32:33Speaker 1: it seems right. But if your buddy was like but
- 32:37Speaker 1: but if your buddy was like, Yo, dude, I got
- 32:39Speaker 1: a fucking hotel. Let's go hang out and that ship after,
- 32:42Speaker 1: we'll use all the amenities, maybe go to the casino downstairs,
- 32:45Speaker 1: We'll do all of that shit. Are you expecting to
- 32:47Speaker 1: fuck your buddy? Was I making on them at the
- 32:50Speaker 1: bar the other day? She's talking about macking and there's
- 32:57Speaker 1: no touching too, so that's pretty much stage kissing. Also,
- 33:01Speaker 1: like that's what, that's what. But that's where she was.
- 33:04Speaker 1: But she was. She was so upfront about it too.
- 33:07Speaker 1: It's nothing, all it is. It's all we're doing is kissing.
- 33:09Speaker 1: All we're doing is kissing. The minute you make a sound,
- 33:12Speaker 1: the minute you start touching me, the minute you start
- 33:15Speaker 1: doing all of that stuff. We're not in this anymore.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I could play that she shit. I think anybody could
- 33:20Speaker 1: play that game. It's if the boundary is if I
- 33:23Speaker 1: if you go, we stop right. That's the impetus for
- 33:29Speaker 1: the whole episode is that he endures it. But he
- 33:32Speaker 1: needs a cold shower because he's so turned on. I mean,
- 33:34Speaker 1: he's making out with the beautiful Carrie Russell. But she
- 33:37Speaker 1: told him from the gate, right, But that doesn't mean
- 33:40Speaker 1: that his peep isn't gonna get right. But my point is,
- 33:43Speaker 1: I don't think she's I don't think she's sending mixed
- 33:45Speaker 1: signals because she's not sending into him. She doesn't even
- 33:48Speaker 1: recognize him. She thinks she's she's the other guy, right, exactly,
- 33:52Speaker 1: exactly exactly. That's funny. When I go look at me,
- 33:55Speaker 1: what is the Egyptian? Right, He's like huh. And then
- 34:01Speaker 1: later you're and then they specifically, they specifically gassed and
- 34:06Speaker 1: they found someone who kind of looked like me but
- 34:08Speaker 1: was different. But by the way, Donald, I think you
- 34:10Speaker 1: mistaken from me. Yeah, one point, I'm talking. He doesn't
- 34:14Speaker 1: even have any laughter in his eyes. Um, let's take
- 34:22Speaker 1: a break. When we take a break, and we'll be
- 34:24Speaker 1: right back with more Scrubs, rewatch podcasts, fake doctors from friends, guys,
- 34:30Speaker 1: everybody likes a little ass play, don't even act like
- 34:32Speaker 1: you know, and we're back all right. This yields one
- 34:40Speaker 1: of the wackiest fantasies in all of Scrubs history. Well,
- 34:43Speaker 1: which one, because there's a winter Wonderland? Okay, the janitor one.
- 34:48Speaker 1: But let's go back and just talk about the janitor
- 34:50Speaker 1: one with Elliott, because they say something at the end
- 34:53Speaker 1: when they're like, these aren't our kids, so that they
- 34:56Speaker 1: kidnapped these kids, and the Janitor's fantasy guests they've kidnapped
- 34:59Speaker 1: all these children and made them wear and doctor outfits,
- 35:06Speaker 1: and he mentions the fact that it would be tricky
- 35:09Speaker 1: to get all those tiny clipboards and tiny brooms, and
- 35:14Speaker 1: then at the end that they aren't aren't kids, which
- 35:17Speaker 1: which leads the viewer to infer that they are kidnapped
- 35:20Speaker 1: shoulders stolen kids. Yes, oh my god, that's the janitor's
- 35:27Speaker 1: fantasy for his Okay, that was pretty that was pretty
- 35:29Speaker 1: whacky to me, but nothing. I think this is the
- 35:33Speaker 1: most stoner fantasy, one of the most one of the
- 35:37Speaker 1: pumpkin thing and your testicle growing. Yeah, this one, um is.
- 35:49Speaker 1: I jump into the bed and for some reason, it's
- 35:51Speaker 1: a winter wonderland. Yes, but in that winter wonderland. Carrie Russell,
- 35:57Speaker 1: what's your character's name? I keep calling her Charity Melody,
- 35:59Speaker 1: thank you? Is a is a mermaid? Turk arrives. Let's
- 36:04Speaker 1: just let's just stop there. I don't know how to
- 36:12Speaker 1: have sex with her. Because no one's ever brought up
- 36:16Speaker 1: since Splash, this hasn't come up. How how do they
- 36:20Speaker 1: have sex? Although in Splash when she's on land, she's
- 36:22Speaker 1: a woman, So what they have to go to land
- 36:24Speaker 1: in order for Tom Hanks's character? I think so. I
- 36:27Speaker 1: don't think that they're having sex underwater. No, they're not.
- 36:29Speaker 1: There's no way he goes to when he goes to
- 36:31Speaker 1: visit the family and everything at the end Splash two,
- 36:36Speaker 1: Slash two. If they did, I know Tom Hanks stayed
- 36:38Speaker 1: away Tom Hanks and you can imagine, you can imagine
- 36:42Speaker 1: like meatballs too, they might have made um, they might
- 36:45Speaker 1: have made a Splash too without Tom Hanks and put
- 36:48Speaker 1: it believe. But it's like Aquaman, Dude, It's like Aquaman,
- 36:54Speaker 1: and that it all takes place underwater in her in
- 36:56Speaker 1: her neighborhood. Oh, that just sounds like something he's gonna drown.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Back then, like, let's just be honest, man. Anyway, he
- 37:04Speaker 1: can't fail. Back when we used to actually film movies
- 37:07Speaker 1: underwater right before CG. Anyway, Yeah, remember that there's that movie,
- 37:13Speaker 1: um the Abyss. No, there was one with Liev Schreiber
- 37:17Speaker 1: and Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman. Where they're all underwater?
- 37:20Speaker 1: There were, but remember like, uh, what was the one
- 37:24Speaker 1: where uh, Sam, can you look up the one I'm
- 37:27Speaker 1: talking about? Um? He gets eaten by the shark? Deep
- 37:30Speaker 1: Blue deeps is the one with Lee? What's the one
- 37:34Speaker 1: with Liev Schreiber and um and and Dustin Hoffman and
- 37:40Speaker 1: maybe more and maybe it's either Morgan Freeman or Sam
- 37:42Speaker 1: Jackson one of them. I remember it was like Deep
- 37:46Speaker 1: Star six? Was there like a deep Star six Deep
- 37:50Speaker 1: Blue c What was the one with the Samuel Jackson
- 37:53Speaker 1: isn't it? Sam Jackson is in the one with the
- 37:56Speaker 1: shark deep Yeah, Deepest Deepest Bluish my Hat is like
- 38:03Speaker 1: a sharks fin Is that the one? Cool Jason? Yeah?
- 38:09Speaker 1: He has the sound track? Yeah, he plays the chef.
- 38:13Speaker 1: This is the movie has a bird a polly always
- 38:16Speaker 1: Samuel Jackson that I'm thinking about. Yeah, yes, Sam Jackson's
- 38:20Speaker 1: and that too. Yeah, I think that's all underwater Deepest
- 38:23Speaker 1: Blush my Head is like a sharks fins. You didn't
- 38:27Speaker 1: like it. I only saw pieces of it. I couldn't
- 38:29Speaker 1: believe it existed. That good dud. Yeah, when I was
- 38:34Speaker 1: a kid, shit dudeki me man, that was fire to me.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Man at one point. At one point, els like on
- 38:43Speaker 1: the kitchen table or some shit like that, floating with
- 38:45Speaker 1: the bird, trying to save the bird from the sharks.
- 38:48Speaker 1: That so the sharks get into the into it's like
- 38:51Speaker 1: a it's under it's like an undersea of station, right, yeah, man,
- 38:55Speaker 1: and the sharks get in there. Yeah, and the sharks
- 38:58Speaker 1: get in because they're intelligent. Here was it just part
- 39:00Speaker 1: of No? No, that's just the soundtrack. He's the chef
- 39:03Speaker 1: in the movie. Such a good movie. Man. When I
- 39:06Speaker 1: was a kid, I usually think that was so good.
- 39:08Speaker 1: I was a kid. I was actually an adult, but yeah,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I don't think it was as long ago as he's
- 39:12Speaker 1: being a kid. Anyway, JD can't figure out where to
- 39:14Speaker 1: have sex with the murm woman and you you point,
- 39:19Speaker 1: and she goes, that's well, I show up out. He
- 39:22Speaker 1: shows out of nowhere as a goat goat turk playing
- 39:25Speaker 1: a playing a what would that be a what is
- 39:28Speaker 1: a pan flute? Is that? I think it's that called
- 39:33Speaker 1: a pan flute? Joel, can you look that up? It
- 39:36Speaker 1: is because of Peter. Now you're a part part man.
- 39:41Speaker 1: That's probably it's probably a name for that mythological beast
- 39:46Speaker 1: it's like a minotaur but a goat. I looked it up,
- 39:49Speaker 1: you guys, it's the Oh sorry, I didn't read them
- 39:53Speaker 1: today I find it. Yeah, it's like a minotaur but
- 39:57Speaker 1: a goat, but I prefer to call it goat turk, Like,
- 40:00Speaker 1: wasn't it wasn't that what Fawn was in the Lion,
- 40:02Speaker 1: the Witch and the wardrobe. That's why I'm that's who
- 40:05Speaker 1: we're making a play on. Well, then goes the then
- 40:11Speaker 1: precedes some dialogue that is pretty amazing. She's that's a
- 40:16Speaker 1: gill and you go, yeah, it is, it is, And
- 40:22Speaker 1: I go, go Turk, that's my mermaid, and you go,
- 40:26Speaker 1: my bad. It's so stupid. It's so such a good joke.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Come on, man, it's amazing, but it's so stupid. I
- 40:37Speaker 1: love it. It's so that's a well, it's so bad.
- 40:39Speaker 1: That's such a good joke. That's a good dad joke.
- 40:43Speaker 1: It's a great dad joke and a very surreal thing.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Yeah all right, So, um cold shower, we learned that
- 40:49Speaker 1: the two senior citizens have syphilists, which is a real thing.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Even at the time of the airing, I'm sure we
- 40:55Speaker 1: had the stat right that STDs because of um drugs
- 40:59Speaker 1: like Sallis and UH and viagra. Seniors can now have
- 41:04Speaker 1: sex a lot longer, and at least when this show aired,
- 41:07Speaker 1: the stat was three rise in SCD amongst seniors. Um,
- 41:14Speaker 1: because they're all banging in nursing homes. I'm gonna say
- 41:16Speaker 1: something right now. I hope this is true. It is true.
- 41:20Speaker 1: I hope this is true. Yeah, why not? Why? I
- 41:24Speaker 1: hope that when Casey and I are in the home
- 41:28Speaker 1: sixties and seventies and our kids aren't taking care of us,
- 41:31Speaker 1: because you know they're not gonna don't say sixties. I
- 41:33Speaker 1: think this is supposed to be like eight even though
- 41:36Speaker 1: even though for some reason the woman is supposed to
- 41:38Speaker 1: be in the sixties, I think it's it's reads more
- 41:40Speaker 1: accurately like eighties. Well, listen, whenever it is. I'm just
- 41:46Speaker 1: saying this. I'm in an old age home. You're not
- 41:48Speaker 1: in an old age home at sixty normally, Jo scrubs
- 41:52Speaker 1: you are. I guess for some reason they decided to
- 41:54Speaker 1: make that woman sixty. I don't know why, but she
- 41:55Speaker 1: was sixty eight. Okay, But whatever it is, when I'm
- 41:58Speaker 1: in whenever it is, and Casey and I God willing,
- 42:02Speaker 1: please healthy, live still together. I hope, I pray that
- 42:09Speaker 1: we are banging like those two. I'm a feeling you won't.
- 42:12Speaker 1: I'm a feeling you won't need sattist or viagra. I
- 42:15Speaker 1: think you'll you'll probably still be going strong. I hope
- 42:17Speaker 1: and I pray you're right on that one as well.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Todd Enters wearing a Gulf T shirt. Yes, kudos does
- 42:24Speaker 1: forgetting a Gulf T shirt on NBC in prime time.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Do you think NBC knew at the time. I think
- 42:32Speaker 1: he didn't. They had no idea what a Gulf T shirt. Many,
- 42:36Speaker 1: just like all the radio stations didn't know. Skeet skeet,
- 42:38Speaker 1: skeet man. He said, I hear there's a he said,
- 42:41Speaker 1: I hear there's a steel Magnolian room nine. He really
- 42:52Speaker 1: is open to any and all types of partners. Yeah,
- 42:56Speaker 1: I thought the end was bar scene was really moved.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I found myself with a big smile across my face.
- 43:02Speaker 1: It was my wife didn't see the My wife didn't
- 43:06Speaker 1: see the first part where she said she was planning it.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I had to explain that to her and when she
- 43:12Speaker 1: saw it, and Elliott does the oh my god, yes,
- 43:16Speaker 1: I mean yes, oh my god, yes, and she goes, oh,
- 43:20Speaker 1: and I said, well in the beginning of the show,
- 43:23Speaker 1: but Sarah still out of it even though the audience
- 43:27Speaker 1: knew was coming. And it was really sweet. I love
- 43:33Speaker 1: the way it was filmed and um. And then of
- 43:35Speaker 1: course it ends with Jad with tears in his eyes
- 43:39Speaker 1: and he realizes that he doesn't have any feelings for Melody,
- 43:43Speaker 1: that seeing this makes him realize he still has feelings
- 43:46Speaker 1: for Elliott. And it ends with him in a in
- 43:48Speaker 1: a cold shower. Oh, it was really clever. Oh'm sorry,
- 43:53Speaker 1: I'm skipping one of the most important beats that you
- 43:56Speaker 1: finally come around to JD's fantasy of what would be
- 43:59Speaker 1: like to Elliott and he's so happy and love and
- 44:02Speaker 1: he says, I love you. I'm so happy that you're
- 44:04Speaker 1: my wife. And it's the simplest of fantasies. Also, like
- 44:08Speaker 1: all the other fantasies were so elaborate, like Cox kills
- 44:11Speaker 1: Elliott you know, also sits across all down a law
- 44:16Speaker 1: table I hate yeah, I know, um and all Judy Judy,
- 44:21Speaker 1: Carla makes out Yeah Carla, what do they say that, Like,
- 44:24Speaker 1: let's just get wine and go shoe shopping or something. Yeah,
- 44:26Speaker 1: and then we can have we could have sensual something like,
- 44:29Speaker 1: you know, cuddly sex and yeah yeah, and then yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 1: tender sex or something like that. Good episode. Very good, yeah,
- 44:40Speaker 1: very good. Well, we have a guest today, we do
- 44:43Speaker 1: all right, We're gonna take a break, everybody, and when
- 44:45Speaker 1: we come back, fuck your sound effects machine. We're gonna
- 44:49Speaker 1: have a guest and it's gonna be fun and laughter.
- 44:51Speaker 1: We'll be right back for what you're trying to get
- 44:59Speaker 1: it all right out? Yes, go ahead? Donald, tell us
- 45:08Speaker 1: about her caller. You organ you. I think this is
- 45:10Speaker 1: the first time you've organized the caller when it came
- 45:13Speaker 1: into the group shot. I I double checks to make
- 45:16Speaker 1: sure I was in the right text chain. Yeah, but
- 45:19Speaker 1: Donald organized today's caller. Go ahead, Donald. So we went
- 45:22Speaker 1: to the z I said it earlier. We went to
- 45:24Speaker 1: the Zombies three premiere. We took the kids, We took
- 45:26Speaker 1: the girl Wilder, she loves the movie. And so while
- 45:32Speaker 1: there we found out that the lead of the movie
- 45:34Speaker 1: is actually Cameron Mannheim's son, Milo Mannheim. And we found
- 45:39Speaker 1: this out because Cameron came up and introduced herself to
- 45:43Speaker 1: us and offered, you know, would you like to meet
- 45:48Speaker 1: to my kids? Would you like to meet my son?
- 45:50Speaker 1: He's the star of the movie, and in doing so,
- 45:53Speaker 1: she introduced me to her nephew, who's a surgeon who's
- 45:57Speaker 1: a fan of Scrubs who actually listens to the podcast.
- 46:00Speaker 1: But he does something that's pretty unique, like he's like
- 46:02Speaker 1: a I don't know what it's exactly called. It's like
- 46:04Speaker 1: a robotic technician or something like surgeon. Yeah, let's find
- 46:09Speaker 1: out what it is. You can talk show, dude, you know,
- 46:16Speaker 1: like a BA spoke some jazz maybe talking about the episode.
- 46:22Speaker 1: So come on, let's get the show. Give it up.
- 46:28Speaker 1: But Noah, Si, I know. H Hey, Zach, Hey, Donald,
- 46:39Speaker 1: Welcome to the podcast, sir, welcome, Welcome. It is such
- 46:42Speaker 1: a pleasure to be here. It's really a pleasure to
- 46:44Speaker 1: meet both of you, guys. I'm just sorry we meet already. Bro.
- 46:47Speaker 1: I can see the whole story on how we met man,
- 46:49Speaker 1: and you just made it look like we didn't meet.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Calm down on the show. He means on the show. Donald,
- 46:55Speaker 1: that's correct, on the show. Now, I'm just so happy
- 46:58Speaker 1: that you're a real You're a surgeon, correct, I am
- 47:01Speaker 1: a real surgeon and you listen to the podcast, which
- 47:03Speaker 1: makes me very happy. Anytime I stumble across people in
- 47:06Speaker 1: the real world that listen. I'm so excited, but particularly
- 47:10Speaker 1: a real surgeon. We're lucky to have you on the show,
- 47:13Speaker 1: and thank you for listening. Well, thank you guys so much.
- 47:17Speaker 1: You know, growing up, you know, everyone has um you know,
- 47:22Speaker 1: certain shows that kind of give them guidance into what
- 47:26Speaker 1: they're supposed to do. And when you apply for medical school,
- 47:28Speaker 1: one of the things that caution you against is saying,
- 47:30Speaker 1: you know, I watched this medical trauma and that got
- 47:33Speaker 1: me involved. And Scrubs was the show that I had to,
- 47:36Speaker 1: you know, bite my lip and say I didn't watch
- 47:38Speaker 1: this and it didn't influence me into going into medicine.
- 47:41Speaker 1: It must be kind of interesting for you, guys, because
- 47:43Speaker 1: there must be a lot of people like me watching
- 47:45Speaker 1: your show growing up. You know, uh, somehow gotten pushed
- 47:49Speaker 1: in that direction because of you too. Yeah, we run
- 47:52Speaker 1: into that all the time, and well when we always
- 47:54Speaker 1: feel so honored that that we did that or you know,
- 47:57Speaker 1: indirectly we did that, and I have to say, it's
- 48:00Speaker 1: just it's just we keep hearing for years we've heard
- 48:04Speaker 1: and I hope you'll attest that this is true that
- 48:06Speaker 1: of all the medical shows, even though Scrubs was the
- 48:08Speaker 1: most bizarre and wacky that it's the most medically accurate
- 48:13Speaker 1: of what the lifestyle is like in terms of training
- 48:17Speaker 1: in residency and the interactions that happen. That's absolutely true.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I mean there's, uh, there's far more or less you know, uh,
- 48:23Speaker 1: sex in the broom closet and scrubs and far more
- 48:26Speaker 1: you know interdepartmental dynamics, and there isn't say, you know,
- 48:29Speaker 1: Gray's anatomy. Err So, um, I absolutely if you're saying
- 48:33Speaker 1: there's no sex in the broom closet, in in uh,
- 48:36Speaker 1: in the real world, you know, maybe I did not
- 48:39Speaker 1: do residency right, simp take simptake simptells, simp take. Tell
- 48:50Speaker 1: us what you're what you actually do, Donaldson, You're a
- 48:53Speaker 1: you have a specialty in the heart in the cardiac world,
- 48:56Speaker 1: so it's it's not cardiac. I do robotics, So I
- 48:59Speaker 1: do robotic variatric surgery, and robotic surgery is an extension
- 49:04Speaker 1: of laparoscopic surgery. There is a I know that your
- 49:08Speaker 1: character Turk talks a lot about doing laparoscopy at different
- 49:11Speaker 1: points during the show, and when you guys were filming scrubs,
- 49:14Speaker 1: robotics really hadn't come into its own as a field
- 49:16Speaker 1: yet and so it's the sort of the next evolution
- 49:19Speaker 1: of laparoscity. And so when you're doing laparoscopic surgery, you
- 49:22Speaker 1: make small incisions in people's bellies and you stick instruments in,
- 49:25Speaker 1: you blow up their abdomens, you have room to operate,
- 49:27Speaker 1: and then you basically have multiple graspers or cutting devices
- 49:30Speaker 1: to do your operation. With the robot, you attach those
- 49:33Speaker 1: devices to a you know, a robotic machine that allows
- 49:37Speaker 1: you to both see in three dimensions, magnify your motions,
- 49:40Speaker 1: and then the instruments are significantly more complex, so you
- 49:43Speaker 1: have many more degrees of freedom in terms of how
- 49:46Speaker 1: you move, and so the learning curve is much faster
- 49:50Speaker 1: and you can be significantly more precise. And so I
- 49:54Speaker 1: knew pretty early on when I saw the robot for
- 49:56Speaker 1: the first time that this is how I sort of
- 49:59Speaker 1: wanted to participate the medical field and be a surgeon.
- 50:01Speaker 1: And I was able to, you know, through a pretty
- 50:03Speaker 1: circuitous path, achieved that. I initially wanted to be a urologist.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Um and uh, you know, they do kidneys and then
- 50:11Speaker 1: you know, penile reconstruction and that kind of thing. Um.
- 50:13Speaker 1: But because they were the first doctors that really use
- 50:16Speaker 1: the robot, And since then the robot has become uh,
- 50:20Speaker 1: you know, embraced by multiple other fields, including what I
- 50:22Speaker 1: currently do now, which is bariatrics, which is weight loss surgery,
- 50:26Speaker 1: and it's just going to continue to grow. Um there's
- 50:28Speaker 1: a second, just one second. So weight loss surgery mean
- 50:32Speaker 1: tying off stomachs. So uh, there's multiple types of weight
- 50:36Speaker 1: loss surgeries. So there's surgeries where you just remove a
- 50:38Speaker 1: portion of the stomach and that helps people both eat
- 50:41Speaker 1: less and then has some hormonal effects. And then there's
- 50:44Speaker 1: a variety of weight loss surgeries where you essentially replumb
- 50:46Speaker 1: the GI tract and move around portions to the intestine
- 50:49Speaker 1: to have you know, less intestine to absorb food. You
- 50:52Speaker 1: can treat things like diabetes. Patients who under go bariatric
- 50:56Speaker 1: surgery have significant health improvements and all kinds of problems
- 50:59Speaker 1: like hypert engine diabetes, and it's also been shown to
- 51:02Speaker 1: improve cancer risks. So it's about to say popular, I
- 51:05Speaker 1: was about to ask you, Okay, if you're able to
- 51:09Speaker 1: rearrange and shorten the intestines and stuff like that, how
- 51:14Speaker 1: would this do against intestinal cancer and colon colorectal cancer
- 51:19Speaker 1: and stuff like that. So the actual surgery itself isn't
- 51:24Speaker 1: really what reduces cancer risk. It's the weight loss that
- 51:27Speaker 1: goes along with it. And so we just we know
- 51:29Speaker 1: that patients who suffer from obesity, as their BMIs get higher,
- 51:34Speaker 1: there are higher rates of cancer associated with that, and
- 51:37Speaker 1: so by reversing that, we're able to bring those rates
- 51:40Speaker 1: of cancer down. And that's kind of a newer benefit
- 51:42Speaker 1: that we're just showing. And has we come out in
- 51:44Speaker 1: some of the more current research. Are people still doing
- 51:47Speaker 1: the thing where they tie off the stomach or has
- 51:49Speaker 1: that become less common? Well, there's a lap band, isn't
- 51:53Speaker 1: it called lap band? So I was wondering wake about.
- 51:55Speaker 1: The lap band was very popular in about twenty ten.
- 51:58Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember driving around Lost Angelists
- 52:00Speaker 1: at that time, but everywhere you look there was a
- 52:02Speaker 1: billboard for you know, lose the weight um and I
- 52:05Speaker 1: just remember learning that people could actually eat, like through
- 52:07Speaker 1: it right or like push it off or something. So
- 52:10Speaker 1: that's one of the problems with the lab band. It
- 52:12Speaker 1: had two major issues. One is that you're putting a
- 52:13Speaker 1: foreign body into the around the stomach, and so it
- 52:16Speaker 1: can slip, it can erode, it can cause problems like
- 52:20Speaker 1: reflux or nausea. And the other problem is that the
- 52:23Speaker 1: mechanism it works is it's just supposed to reduce your
- 52:25Speaker 1: appetite by constricting the stomach. Most other bariatric surgeries have
- 52:29Speaker 1: some component of hormonal changes associated with them as well.
- 52:32Speaker 1: So for patients who had the lap band, they could
- 52:34Speaker 1: lose a certain percentage of weight, but many had problems
- 52:36Speaker 1: and many gained it back. Um. Probably about thirty or
- 52:40Speaker 1: forty percent of patients who had them did well, and
- 52:42Speaker 1: we're really happy with their results, but a lot of
- 52:44Speaker 1: them ended up getting second surer. So that's not so.
- 52:47Speaker 1: That's sorry, darn onemore, that's so that's not in favor
- 52:49Speaker 1: anymore now. It's now it's reducing the size of the
- 52:52Speaker 1: stomach or the large intestines. So bariatric surgeries an area
- 52:55Speaker 1: where lots of people have very strong opinions, And so
- 52:59Speaker 1: there are people who was still be doing the lap
- 53:01Speaker 1: band um, but it's being done with far less regularity
- 53:04Speaker 1: that was done ten years ago. The most common sleep
- 53:07Speaker 1: surgery to marathis called the sleeve gastrectomy, where you stample
- 53:10Speaker 1: off about eighty percent of the stomach. But people are
- 53:12Speaker 1: also doing things like gastric bypass and other types of
- 53:16Speaker 1: bypass surgeries as well. Go ahead, don wow, what's the
- 53:20Speaker 1: one that's there's one that it wasn't the lap band?
- 53:22Speaker 1: That's I know a few people died from trying to
- 53:30Speaker 1: us Yeah, yeah, through surgery. Um was the lap band
- 53:37Speaker 1: is the one that's really dangerous though also there's a
- 53:40Speaker 1: risk in doing any of this obviously, but that was
- 53:43Speaker 1: the one that I don't want to freaking get in trouble.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I don't want to get sued by lap band. Well, good,
- 53:47Speaker 1: we got a surgeon here. You can answer your question.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Go ahead. So the lap band was relatively safe the
- 53:53Speaker 1: more the mortality wasn't really the big problem. It had
- 53:56Speaker 1: to do with either eroding into the stomach slipping. Bariatric
- 54:00Speaker 1: surgery is a long history of trial and error, and
- 54:03Speaker 1: early on people would the first surgeries, they basically bypassed,
- 54:08Speaker 1: you know, eighty five percent of the intestine and plugged
- 54:10Speaker 1: the remainder the intestine back in and only gave you
- 54:12Speaker 1: aout one hundred centimeters to absorb, and patients had all
- 54:15Speaker 1: kinds of nutritional deficiencies. The probably the most dangerous surgery
- 54:20Speaker 1: that's being currently done in America, not that it's dangerous,
- 54:22Speaker 1: but that it has the most possible side effects is
- 54:24Speaker 1: called the duity'll switch, and you're basically removing about half
- 54:29Speaker 1: of the intestine further down and so you don't have
- 54:33Speaker 1: that to absorb, and if you don't take the appropriate vitamins,
- 54:37Speaker 1: then patients can have massive nutritional deficiencies that can be fatal,
- 54:42Speaker 1: and so some of those have come into the news.
- 54:45Speaker 1: But in general, bariatric surgeries, if you have a good
- 54:48Speaker 1: program and you follow along with you know, a good nutritionist,
- 54:52Speaker 1: are very safe. Do you think robotics are going to
- 54:55Speaker 1: be used in more and more surgeries. I mean we'll
- 55:00Speaker 1: come to a point where everything's done through a small
- 55:03Speaker 1: incision and robotics. I think there's always going to be
- 55:07Speaker 1: room for open surgeries. There are many times where things
- 55:11Speaker 1: are too stuck, or you just don't have the robot
- 55:15Speaker 1: available where that or it's absolutely necessary to know how
- 55:17Speaker 1: to do that. Right now, across all fields, people are
- 55:21Speaker 1: using the robot for elective surgery, meaning not for emergencies,
- 55:24Speaker 1: and slowly we're finding ways to do more emergence surgeries
- 55:28Speaker 1: that way. But there's always going to be a need
- 55:31Speaker 1: for someone who knows how to make a big bin
- 55:33Speaker 1: line incision and stop bleeding or take their control contamination.
- 55:37Speaker 1: That being said, I think the robot's going to continue
- 55:40Speaker 1: to grow. Some of the major barriers to entry are
- 55:44Speaker 1: cost and then training of personnel. So the system itself
- 55:48Speaker 1: costs about a million and a half dollars, and then
- 55:52Speaker 1: you know there's about two or three hundred thousand dollars
- 55:54Speaker 1: a maintenance a year, and it requires a whole set
- 55:57Speaker 1: of training, not just for the surgeons who do it,
- 55:59Speaker 1: but for everyone else in the o R to know
- 56:01Speaker 1: how to exchange the instruments and maintain the system, and
- 56:04Speaker 1: so it required you know, it's those are major barriers
- 56:07Speaker 1: to entry, but at the same time, you can be
- 56:09Speaker 1: so precise, and the operative experience is so excellent that
- 56:14Speaker 1: there's been a real push to adoption and they're sorry,
- 56:18Speaker 1: how long do you think until it's doing the procedure itself.
- 56:22Speaker 1: That's I'm thinking about like autopilot and a plane, where
- 56:27Speaker 1: where the pilot is taking off and then he's hitting
- 56:30Speaker 1: on a pilot because you know, the robot's gonna he's
- 56:32Speaker 1: gonna monitor the robot, but the robot's gonna fly more
- 56:35Speaker 1: accurately than a human being ever could um. Obviously with
- 56:40Speaker 1: the monitoring of a human being. Well, do you think
- 56:42Speaker 1: something analogous will happen in the surgery world where where
- 56:46Speaker 1: you're saying like, hey, hey do this, but I'm gonna
- 56:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch you to make sure you don't suck up.
- 56:50Speaker 1: But but your but your accuracy as a as a
- 56:52Speaker 1: computer could be better than a humans ever could. I
- 56:56Speaker 1: hope that doesn't really happen in the next thirty years
- 56:59Speaker 1: because that might be of my career, but it's it's
- 57:03Speaker 1: gonna happen at some point. So they've already created robot
- 57:06Speaker 1: that can do things like close skin together better than
- 57:09Speaker 1: any human can. Um. The thing with surgery is that
- 57:12Speaker 1: it's not so much about the technical skill, although that's
- 57:15Speaker 1: absolutely essential. It's every single thing you do is a
- 57:18Speaker 1: separate decision, and making those decisions requires lots of expertise.
- 57:23Speaker 1: And so I think it's going to be a while
- 57:27Speaker 1: before we have a robot that can go in interpret
- 57:29Speaker 1: someone's in natity, find out what the problem is, uh,
- 57:32Speaker 1: and then execute the right series of steps in order
- 57:35Speaker 1: to do it. I may be able to tell a robot,
- 57:38Speaker 1: you know, close this incision here and then walk away.
- 57:41Speaker 1: But I feel I think, yeah, exactly, but I think
- 57:46Speaker 1: I'm probably secure over the next twenty or thirty years.
- 57:48Speaker 1: But you do believe that's that's that's nanotech is on
- 57:52Speaker 1: a horizon, bro. It has to be that's what has
- 57:55Speaker 1: to be. Well, I'm thinking. I'm thinking little tiny, little, tiny, tiny,
- 57:59Speaker 1: tiny tiny, like the Inner Space, like Iron Man. Do
- 58:03Speaker 1: you remember Inner Space? I do remember Interspace one of
- 58:06Speaker 1: my favorite movies ever, A great movie. Dennis Quaid, Did
- 58:09Speaker 1: you Go Inside? They shrink him down, so it's just
- 58:13Speaker 1: like a miss frizzled situation. I'm pretty well versed, but
- 58:17Speaker 1: I have not shrink. You're way shrink. They shrank Dennis
- 58:24Speaker 1: Quaid down to the size of a freaking molecule almost,
- 58:28Speaker 1: and inject him into Martin Short. Yeah, and wackiness ensues.
- 58:34Speaker 1: That's when it all goes. All craziness happened. Listen. That's
- 58:37Speaker 1: where and Meg Ryan met Short. Do you watch the Boys?
- 58:43Speaker 1: Do you watch the Boys? I've seen Dennis Quaid's son
- 58:46Speaker 1: The Boys. Yeah, that's Meg Ryan's son too. Guess where
- 58:49Speaker 1: they met when making Inner Space? It all comes full circle. Noah, well,
- 58:54Speaker 1: there we go. You're bringing it back. Martin Short is
- 58:56Speaker 1: so funny. I've been watching Only Murder, Only Murder in
- 58:59Speaker 1: the Building. Oh yeah, Zach I started it and it's
- 59:01Speaker 1: so good. It's fun right, but Martin Short like he
- 59:06Speaker 1: just I just cut to him and I laugh. I
- 59:08Speaker 1: just find him so funny. Did you ever see Three Amigos?
- 59:11Speaker 1: Of course you've seen three Amigo I've seen three amideo
- 59:13Speaker 1: scrap film. And did you ever see the Santa Claus
- 59:16Speaker 1: three where he plays Uh, he's yeah, he's Jack Frost.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Well I'm liking I'm liking Only Murders in the Building
- 59:32Speaker 1: and he's very funny. It took me twenty five years
- 59:35Speaker 1: to realize that The Santa Claus was a fun Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
- 59:38Speaker 1: yeah yeah if you were twenty five years old when
- 59:42Speaker 1: you found out. Huh. I watched the movie when I
- 59:45Speaker 1: was swelled, and twenty five years later I was like, oh,
- 59:47Speaker 1: Claus things, yeah, and you're a doctor, right yeah yeah,
- 59:54Speaker 1: well thank you? No, no, do you have any questions
- 59:58Speaker 1: for us? Oh? Yeah, even qu for us. I'd love
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: to ask you guys a couple. So one of them
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: has to do with my favorite thing about the show,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: which was your relationship with each other and sort of
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: your romance. Um, how how did you guys decide to
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: sort of uh, you know, focus and highlight on that
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: so much, given that at the time that wasn't something
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: that was emphasized in pop culture. I think it was.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: It was a combination of Bill had written it, you know,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: based on French his friendships, um, and then Donald and
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I took it and ran with it. Um. You know, Bill,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: it's funny. I was just working with him this week
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: and now he's become a hugger. You know. It took
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: twenty years. He wasn't even he wrote these characters, but
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: like he'd still like stick out his hand and like Bill, no,
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: we're hugging, and um, So I think he created these characters.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: And then the magical thing happened that Donald and I
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: really truly became as close as the characters in real life.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: And then he just started taking stories from our own
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: life and making them that and we would improv you know,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: as it was easy easy for us to improv as
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: the guys because they were very similar to who we were. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Turk and JD definitely broke down a lot of my
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: own homophobia issues, you know what I mean, like having
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: to do a lot of the things that we did. Definitely,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: you know it's all Look, I love you no matter what.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: If your life was on the line and I needed
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: to do something to save you, I would do that
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: for you. I'm so confused. You put your penis in
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: them if they needed it for their Absolutely, that's what
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I would coding. He's coding we needed giant cock is
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: signed him. You would do that for you. Yeah, in
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: a heartbeat, Thank you baby, and doctor? Does that ever
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: come up in the medical field quickly, meaning a penis
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: in someone's re I mean, as I said, I didn't
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: spend very much time inside the you know, the broom
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: closets residences that experience. They just wondered if there was
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: any situation that you are where like quick, we need
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: a fallus in his rectum. Well, I can tell you
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that my second day of residency. So you know, I'm
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: forty hours in, I walk in, I'm on call, and
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: my senior goes, I've got to wrectum for you to disimpact.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: So literally, like I walk into work and twenty minutes later,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I've got um, you know, ankle or I guess, you know,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: like wrist deep and some guy's asked trying to take it,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: you know, dis impact some constipated stool. Yeah, okay, that's
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: what I was going to ask you. So what do
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: you give me notice plugs? Yeah? Like how does that work? Like,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: so you got to go up there and you got
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: to be professional. How do you not in your mind say,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: oh my god, I'm one fisting this dude. Yeah, Like
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: that's more like wearing him like a hand puppet, right, Like,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: how do you not? How do you not? That's the
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: first thing. And then two, I'm actually pulling his dudoo
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: out of him? Now is it a dudoo clog? Is
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: that the problem? Like there's too much dudo in its clog?
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Whether impacted, they have a they basically have a stool
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: ball that's so horror stoolball out there rectum so it's
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: too big, and then you take it. You have to
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: reach in there and pull out the stoolball. You basically
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: turn your finger and they're like it becomes a popsicle.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: You kind of do you ever? Do you ever? Do
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: you ever like try and swish it like a three
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: to the garbage? I can't say that I have the
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: rules of dis impaction though art you're never supposed to
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: make eye contact with the patient. Once you start um
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: because it could be sexual. If you live you're looking
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: at each other, it could be sexual. I mean, it's
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: already awkward for them, it's kind of awkward for you.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: As you were saying, you're doing everything you can to
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: maintain your professionalism. That's what I'm trying to say. Like
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: you're being the doctor, you have a license to you
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: have a license to see things that you wouldn't necessarily
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: see normally, like like one, the inside of people, right,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: you wouldn't normally get to see those things that too.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Always found it awkward when your doctor's like, all right,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: let me see your stuff. Now, I know they're being
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: professional and automatically I'm like, yeah, sure, here's my ship,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: there's my jump, you know what I mean. But truth
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: in the truth of the matter, we're so caught up
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: in it in other situations, like I would never do
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: that in front of you know, a bunch of people
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: out of nowhere, because I don't want to. You're prepared.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: You know when you're gonna get your physical that you're
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: gonna at some point drop your drawers and at some
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: point bend over and let him digitally penetrate you. Yes,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: do you know that I have to have my first
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: colonoscopy doctor, and I I've never had after forty five, right,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: So exactly, they moved the guidelines up five years. So
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Donald Donald has had his. But I'm talking to the doctor.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: I'm talking to him before because he's I haven't had
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: it yet. I think it's coming up this week. And
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: he says he's asking these questions and he goes, I'm
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: gonna do an endoscopy as well, um, for X y
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Z reasons. And I thought I was being clever and
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: I said, don't use the same camera. And he said,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: do you know how many people make that joke? And
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I thought I was being original.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Well was courtesy? You couldn't give me a courtesy? Laugh? Doc?
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: You know, well, you know it's um, it's always a
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: scary experience for your first time. Uh. The one thing
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: that you know you should take solace in is that
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: it's July. So that means there's gonna be a whole
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: fresh new crop crop of interns and residents starting. So
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: you know you maybe someone's first colonoscopy. No, no, no,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: he well maybe assisting, but I know the guy who's
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: doing it, he's he's going to be operating the camera. Okay,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: now they give you propo phil right now. I was
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: that I remember um coming out of because I have
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: had an endoscopy before and I was weaking. I couldn't
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: stop talking. Does that happen a lot and people are
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: coming out of pro feel like speaking? Well, yeah, I
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: had that, h know I'm talking about Like I was
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: just talking. I was like, doct, this feels so good,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Like what is this drug? Like? Okay, so then he
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: doc told me that Like I don't know if he
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: was joking or not, but he said maybe it wasn't
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: propo phil, but he said, this is the drug the
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: CIA used to use, see I used to use on
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: people because they just couldn't stop talking. They were just
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: like this spilling their guts like I don't so they
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: may have been using a different drug on you. It
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: might have been ketamine. And people tend to often speak
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: when they when they come out of kenemine polls um.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: I was in a dude, he put me in a khole.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: Probably went out parting. I remember telling him. I remember
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: I couldn't stop talking. I was like, Doc, this feels
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: so good, Like would you ever want to like hang
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: out with me in my breasts. So you know those
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: things you can think back that you said that in
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: like you cringe. Well, on my list is like on
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: whatever drug, can't stop talking, asking the doctor to bring
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: this drug and hang out with me and my friends.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Oh dude, I said somebody I said I have for
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: my colonoscopy. I have one of the most cringeworthy uh
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: statements ever said to a doctor on the drug. On
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: the drug, before the note, before the drug, before the drug,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: the rug. He's about to put the drug in me,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: and I look at him, I go, tell me when
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: you put it in, because I want to feel it. Cringe, cringe,
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: meaning I want to be high for that split. I
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: want to feel the high. Second it does feel great,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: but before I'm in dharma dar arm, before I go
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: there freaking. But I gotta say when I felt it
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: for the endoscopy. There's like a split a couple of
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: seconds where you're like, oh, this must people like heroin
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: or feels like or something, because this is amazing. And
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: then I was like, tell me, I remember saying that
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: to him, and then after saying that, being like, damn,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I sound like a fucking addict, and he's like, it's
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: in you and I was like, yeah, it is um
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: all right, we gotta wrap it up. Donald Phaison, No, Noah,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: You've been an amazing guest. Thank you for educating us.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Everyone go get your colonoscope. If you're if you're forty
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: five and above, and if you're lucky before the robots
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: take over, yeah maybe if well, if you're unlucky and
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: you get lucky enough to have a surgeon like Noah
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: and his robot and his R two unit, yeah, operate
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: on you do you name it? Did you name the robot?
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: So the robots way we work are named after the
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Wally movie. So we have Evie and Wally. There's there's
