  [upbeat rock music] Hey, everybody.
• 0:20
It's Sven. This is Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 209. 209, makes you feel fine. 20- 209. JK's across from me over there in his Daikaiju shirt. Mm-hmm. And- Ah, I'm so on the fence.
• 0:35
Yeah, and, and Tony's to my left here, and T- I don't think Tony's on the fence about the show at all. I'm pretty much... Yeah, it's a You're on fence, you're just further- Further... off the fence [laughs] than I am.
• 0:45
Yeah, yeah. I'm on a, I'm on a higher fence, let's put it that way. Well, it was yesterday, so we won't- Yeah... know if we went until tomorrow. I come... Yeah, until I come to tomorrow.
• 0:53
[laughs] So [laughs] we're living in a fog right now. Plus I wonder who's all going to s- who all went and saw Bikini Kill, too. Nomad Sam, I know that. Yep, Corey, a few others. Lots of stuff going on. Have fun, guys.
• 1:05
I had the, uh- New shows coming. There was a l- there was a dearth of shows there for a couple of months, actually Hot Chips coming on a Wednesday, so I will definitely be missing this podcast, or in real time.
• 1:16
Well- Hey, speaking of, what time is that at? Uh, oh, doors open at 7:00, so I could probably still make it. Where is it? Where? Turner. Here's an idea. You're fired. I've been having this idea. Now, now- [laughs]...
• 1:28
now this part- this particular week, it's particularly crappy out again. Mm-hmm. It's like the- Mm-hmm... the weather that just sucks. Keeps on giving. Wet and 40, you know? Yeah.
• 1:38
Uh, but I think maybe next week or the week after, they're gonna start the Riverwest 24 practice laps again, and I was thinking maybe we should move the, the show taping- All right... to s- or 6:00 maybe. Oh.
• 1:51
Uh, I, I was thinking either that- And then, and then we could still make the...
• 1:53
or we could do the show on the road with the- Or we could do it on a different day so I can finally get to The Swinging Door once for a damn hot dog. Oh, you are so close. How does- I know...
• 2:04
how does our show have anything to do with you getting a hot dog? Once. 'Cause I rode my bicycle- 'Cause, 'cause in r-... every week... in non-internet time, that's hot dog day.
• 2:13
Right, but hot dogs, you could go there at lunchtime. That's really hard on my bike. I don't have the liberties that, that other people have. Do you know what an electric bike's for?
• 2:22
Getting hot dogs at the door at lunchtime. It was a hummus. [laughs] A hummus, the Hummer hummus. Send that picture. Send that picture for people to see how great these hot dogs are. And that's the western on the right.
• 2:32
They're what, three bucks? Four now. $4. Yeah. $4. So I could go get three- I don't-... for 12 bucks, obviously... I, I don't think you could- Yes... and three for five. You couldn't eat three.
• 2:43
No, I, last time, I took two home with me. Yeah, there you go. I was pushing myself with the two. I'm good for, like, about one and a half- Right, right... until everything starts to fall apart.
• 2:50
Especially that barbecue one is so good. Oh, yeah. I, I can't, I, I can't get anything but that one. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. It, yeah, if the specialist isn't screaming at me, I'll be like, "Eh."
• 3:00
Well, I mean, just hot dogs slathered in hummus and pickled onions, I was like, "I'm just intrigued by that." [laughs] It was okay. It was good, [laughs] I mean, for what it was.
• 3:11
Just something else you can slather on a hot dog now. Right, right. They seem- But then it would also, we could do... I, I could have a twofer that day.
• 3:17
It'd be like the, the glorious, I could, I could go get my hot dog and then do a practice lap. Yeah. That would burn the hot dog off. Oh. Right? Exactly. Yeah, and if we throw a show in the middle of there.
• 3:31
Well- I don't know, we could move it to another night, too, but- I guess, yeah, if you don't- I don't know... yeah, won't- That would be m- messing with tradition, [laughs] and you don't fuck with tradition. Ah.
• 3:43
Courtesy of your Letter Kenny folks. Yeah. Well, you just tinker with it. You might manipulate it just slightly. Yeah. In that we could start at 6:00 instead of 7:00.
• 3:51
[laughs] I gotta, I gotta re-watch Letter Kennys again. I'm, I'm due. Yeah. So on the way there, I ran into the weather that you had- The, I s-... texted about. Yeah. And after...
• 4:03
Yes, I did see you honk at me, or d- I saw you honk. Heard you honk [laughs] and saw your car go by as I was going down Downer. I'm like, "Ah, I'm on my way." Do you have to use your vehicle for work?
• 4:19
Like, drive around campus or- On shitty days, like- Isn't that why you take your bike there? [laughs] I, it, well, I walk all around campus. Gotcha. That's how I get my steps up. Um, but when I'm... I only take my...
• 4:29
Obviously, Molly drops Daniel off and then parks the car, and then if I need it, I can run to... Today I ran to Zilber because I thought I had to bring back a computer, and it turned out I could do it all there.
• 4:38
And then I did go to the Field Station in Suckville on Monday, which was pretty cool. Suckville? Suckville? Yep.
• 4:48
You know where I'd like to get to on the UWM, uh, roster is their buy shit for cheap warehouse over on Capital. Surplus. The Surplus. They have a website- Yeah... Facebook page and shit. Yeah. Do it.
• 4:58
I think you have to go over there to really get the deals, right? You can't really buy online or anything. You have to show up. They post it on that Facebook thing, and then you just, like...
• 5:06
I know all the electronics Digital Bridge buys almost instantly. No, I was looking for a desk for Garrett for his room- Oh, the... Yeah... and a couple other things like that. Maybe a office chair or two or something.
• 5:15
Keeping, uh, yeah, that's... You know, by the time it gets to there, the office chairs and stuff, they're no good. [laughs] The desks, yes. Oh, man, I, I'm... Yeah.
• 5:25
I, I, me, like, my cars, my bikes, m- whatever, I just ride, drive those things into the ground, into dust. Oh, sometimes literally. I've seen that happen. Yes. Yeah, me too.
• 5:37
[laughs] So [laughs] it's one of those things. My office chair is just, like, yep. Absolutely. I mean, you c- you can see where, like, the, like, the, uh, the, like, key chain- Sheet prints snow...
• 5:48
No, where the key chain hangs and just rubs the hell out of whatever the upholstery part is on there. It's like, "Eh, whatever." I love my chair at my home office. It's such a great chair.
• 6:00
This is just a perch for half the time. I don't really sit. Well, it gets, it gets abused because- [laughs]...
• 6:04
at the height I have it in the arms- I'm sitting in it and it's lower, but it goes under the desk and it's just like [chair scraping] scraping underneath- Right... the desk just a little bit. I'm like, "Damn it."
• 6:15
Oh, you guys went to Rockabilly Chili. I didn't make it over there. How was that? Uh, chili. It was tasty. I, I talked to Crawford and I said, "You know, I haven't been here since the time where people were passing out."
• 6:26
He said, "I went to the hospital." Yeah. He mentioned that- Uh-huh... on Monday when they announced the winners. For a, for a hot chili- It was-... hospital visit?
• 6:34
That's, and that's what ended up starting them having the chili, five chilies, and you circle how hot- [laughs]... your chili is because this gu- this person apparently either had a,
• 6:43
a reaper pepper chili or a ghost pepper chili, and several pe- one, one person... Yeah. We aren't gonna discuss how bad it got for some people. But there was nothing like that this year.
• 6:53
Well, I saw you that one d- that, that one year. That was the one- You were... Yeah. You were ne- just, you were in terror. It was, it was absolutely horrible. And I'm just like, "Where did you get that?
• 7:00
And I'm not going there. Just so I know, I'm just gonna..." Da, na, na, na. Yeah. So did you guys vote for your favorite chili? No. Yeah. My, uh... You didn't? No. He's a poser.
• 7:13
[blows raspberry] [laughs] I, I, I'm gonna tell you- Like, hey- I, wait, wait... hey, JK flew all the way from Florida to go to the chili tasting. Yeah. I, I landed- Yeah. Well, I, I, I, I have confessions...
• 7:21
I landed, I only had, I had two, uh, two glasses of wine and a piece of toast. That was my base. I, I have a confession. And then I had five samples.
• 7:29
[imitates engine revving] So I, I got there- I had, um, e- emotional visits after. [laughs] I, I got there and I got four tickets because I'm a Guitar Smasher, and then I figured I gotta buy a beer,
• 7:40
and I was feeling like, well... I find the guy and I'm like, "Here's 20 bucks. Give me tickets." Which, just so you know, if you have four tickets and then you have 20 tickets, you get how many beers? 25. 24.
• 7:56
Is this math? I didn't know- Four?... there'd be math on this show. [laughs] Four beers. Four beers. Oh. Yeah. I don't know how many tickets beers are. So you know what that leaves you f- with for chili? One ticket.
• 8:05
Zero. Oh. [laughs] I ate zero chili. See math. See my maths. I didn't have any, I didn't taste any chili. My maths are not good. Oh, just had four beers? Yeah, I just had four beers. Oh, that's fucking hilarious.
• 8:12
[laughs] Walked around, shot the shit with everybody that I see there every year. Oh, yeah. I, it was- I ran into so many fun people. My friend Sarah, I haven't seen her in ages. I was doing- Mel...
• 8:19
I was doing the opposite. I was like ack- acknowledging these people, but I was like, "I am so deaf." I could not hear. Uh, that's why I, I, I yelled- I mean, when you, you came up- "Excuse me" Yeah. "Excuse me."
• 8:29
You couldn't hear me. You were- And I was just... The old lady that was, like, collecting, like, stuff, she laughed so hard with me just flipping you off. [laughs] Nice. She, she clearly knew it was a joke.
• 8:38
Hey, we've got a green button I'm gonna push over here. Oh, push the button. I'm gonna, I'm gonna push that button right there. I pushed the button. Hey, welcome to the radio program. Caller, who do we have on the line?
• 8:47
Dave. Hey, Dave. I think that's Dave. Is that Dave? Uh. Do we have a bad connection? Is there anybody- Hello, Dave?... out there? Just nod if you can hear me. I can't hear Dave. Oh, there. Oh, there. Hey. Dave.
• 9:03
What, what's going on, Dave? Is this better? Oh, yeah. Hey, Dave. Oh, that, that's way better. I don't know what was happening before, but yeah. You got a voice now. Before you were like a- Huh... eh, up, oop, ip.
• 9:13
Eep, up, orc, uh, uh. I had... Weird. I had earbuds in, um, to talk, and now I'm just talking on the phone regular, but- Yeah. Now, well, now we can hear you, and before we couldn't, so that's a good thing. Strange.
• 9:27
[laughs] How's- Well, I hope there's nothing wrong with my earbuds. Oh. How's Dave doing? Maybe they're not charged. Uh, good, good. I... It, we're in a weird period we, I, that I thought we were gonna miss up here.
• 9:43
Um, we had, like, this most amazing winter ever, six solid months of just being able to consistently ski or fat bike on great snow.
• 9:55
Um, I mean, some people might not find, find it great to have six months of winter, but, but [laughs] but, uh, when, when it's really fun winter, you know, it's not, uh, you know...
• 10:08
It was like living in a snow globe for six solid months- [laughs]... um, with, like, perfectly groomed trails and, you know.
• 10:17
So and then, so, like, Easter week, um, it, I was, it got, started to get warm, and on, like, I was skiing, like, in a T-shirt at, you know, in 70-degree weather on, uh, you know, soft sorta mushy snow, but, but still really good snow.
• 10:37
And, uh, and then it got to be, like, in the 80s, and like three days later, I was biking on dry gravel roads. Yep. And I was like, "Wow."
• 10:49
We, like, went from, like, perfect winter to instant, like, like, late spring, summer weather, and missed the whole muddy, wet season. And, uh, and then it came back. Yeah.
• 11:03
[laughs] So, so d- in this most, in this most recent assault of old man winter and his dying throes, did you, did you get a bunch of snow? 'Cause I saw Mr. Murphy- We didn't get killed some... Yeah, we didn't get killed.
• 11:16
I know some people got it worse. I was gonna say down by Levis they got, like, two feet. Yeah. Right. I saw that picture. Yeah. And- Wow...
• 11:24
right, I s- yeah, I saw, uh, Steve's, like, had, like, a ruler stuck in the snow, and it showed, like, 24 inches or something. But, um, down by Levis, yeah. No, we got lucky.
• 11:36
We got six, seven inches of snow or something like that. But it stay, it has stayed unseasonably cold as well. So it, even though that wasn't that much, it hasn't melted.
• 11:52
I, I w- I sent you a picture of, like, what, uh, like I said, the Wednesday, the Thursday after Easter, I was riding dry gravel roads 'cause it was, like, 87 degrees, you know, two days in a row, and everything just, the snow just evaporated even though we had tons of it.
• 12:10
Um, and then we got this, and it's been, you know, like-... 38, 42 degrees, and it's continued to rain and give us just- Yeah... bleh, wintery, mixy, you know- I see this picture of your-... crappy stuff...
• 12:26
your, uh, Fixation Crusher. Yeah, that's, there's a- Yeah... I look sloppy. Yeah. So, [laughs] so I, yeah, I, I mean, I did go through, I had studded tires on all my bikes for the...
• 12:43
We normally have this period where, like, you know, uh, you can't ride on the, the groomed trails, you can't ski anymore, and the gravel roads stay icy for three weeks to five weeks.
• 13:00
So I, soon as we get towards the end of winter, I, I, you know, I put studded tires on my mountain bike. I've got 'em on my fat bike all winter.
• 13:10
But the gravel roads are just ice, so it, you know, you can ride a 29er or even my, my Crusher with, uh, narrow studded tires, and it's, it's fast, and it's, it's actually really, really great.
• 13:26
And we didn't have that this... So I, I changed over my tires on two bikes and thinking we were gonna get icy gravel roads, and then suddenly they were dry, and it was 85 degrees outside.
• 13:39
And then, so I took them off and put the normal tires back on, and now we have slush, but- [laughs] I'm hoping it's gonna warm up a little bit.
• 13:51
It, we're supposed to get some rain the next two days, and it's gonna warm up a little bit, just enough to get back out on the, to get that slush off the gravel roads, 'cause it's,
• 14:02
it's kinda, you know, it, without studded tires or something, it's, it's just kinda messy. Yeah.
• 14:09
I almost slid in the ditch on a downhill just 'cause I hit a patch of snow that was deeper than I thought it was, and, you know, the front wheel slid out, and I just started sliding around, but- Is that, uh- So unfortunately we do not have very good conditions.
• 14:24
Yeah. Is The Crusher a carpet fiber bike? It is. That was, um, that was the bike that inspired the Tour de Schwarmageddon actually. That was Fixation's prototype all-road bike.
• 14:38
So I've got, you know, like, 42s or something, I think, on that. I don't even remember, but something like that.
• 14:44
You know, it was an all-road gravel bike with, you know, three-pack mounts and on the fork, and, you know, it's got inter- internal wiring on the, for, uh, a dyno light on the fork, and all the sort of stuff we've come to expect from, uh, modern gravel bikes.
• 15:02
And, you know, that was when they were built, got their quiver going too, and this was gonna be the carbon fiber version.
• 15:10
And I came up with the name The Crusher, um, because all their bikes, Fixation bikes are, you know, The East Side or something like that. They're all sort of Milwaukee-related names.
• 15:21
And so I suggested The Crusher given, you know, The Crusher's a famous wrestler, and then of course crushing gravel.
• 15:29
And so it was on the prototype and they got a cease and desist- Crushing beer cans Yeah, t- [laughs] Yeah, dude, I hammer lock your little turkey necks. So the, so- Right. Exactly...
• 15:40
so The Crusher's E- the Crusher's estate didn't contact you about the name? Lawsuit. No, they got a cease and desist from s- Like, maybe, like, Farley... No.
• 15:49
No, they got a cease and desist from, I don't remember, it might have been Pacific, um, saying, "We have a bike called the Crusher with a K," and it was, like, a, a chopper style, you know, kids urban- Oh, God...
• 16:04
you know, $200 Stingray kind of style bike, but they called it the Crusher with a K, and they were willing to go to court over it. Wow. So.
• 16:14
[laughs] So I've, I have one of the few that's actually still called The Crusher. Which hill do you wanna die on on that one? Yeah. Just...
• 16:19
[laughs] Hey, ha- have you ever, have you ever watched the show, I think it's, it's on Amazon Prime now, but it's a Masterpiece PBS show called Endeavor? It's like, uh, Inspector- Yeah, yeah...
• 16:29
In- Inspector Morse when he's younger. Yeah. There's like- Inspector Morse's younger partner. Yeah... younger, younger self.
• 16:34
There's, like, in a several episodes now I've seen, like, it'll, it looks like a Raleigh chopper. They call it something else. It's a yellow, like, Raleigh chopper, 1970, you know, 16-inch front wheeled bike- Uh-huh...
• 16:46
with a sissy bar and a long seat and stuff. [laughs] I was like, "Hey, that's pretty cool." Huh, I didn't notice that, um, when I was watching the show. Well, it's, like, season seven or eight.
• 16:55
Or maybe I did and I just forgot about it. I'm, I'm kind of at the end of it now, so it's in the last couple of seasons- Oh... that it shows up. There's- Oh...
• 17:01
there's, like, a, a soccer star modeling with it with some girls and stuff, and then a paperboy riding one, and it's like, yeah, yeah, that's a cool bike. If you... Uh, yeah. Right. But so whatever.
• 17:11
They, like, Fixation, they, they just decided to not name it that anymore and just, uh- I know they don't even make carbon bikes anymore, do they? No, I don't think so.
• 17:21
They did that for a few years, you know, um, and, uh, they still make their quiver, which is, you know, a, a, a reasonably priced, you know, decent, decent disc brake gravel bike. It's, it's a nice bike. Um, but, uh,
• 17:39
yeah, but so I, I still have that one, but, and I keep fenders on it and stuff, so I have a fancy, you know, um, Waterford built road bike that, that fits 35
• 17:54
millimeter tires on it too, that, but I don't, I don't ride that in the crappy weather, so- Yeah.
• 18:01
Well- I keep the Fixation bike for that, but- I saw you send pictures of your tune- Yeah, speaking of the Raleigh thing, um, that, have you guys ever watched that Raleigh documentary? No. Mm-mm.
• 18:12
I would- I, I'll try to find it and there's a really crazy... They interview a number of the employees, and there's this crazy, kind of cool, um, former, uh, co-...
• 18:24
uh, '50s sort of rocker style, like, employee that worked on the assembly line. A- and he still, like, does everyth- even though he's 70% bald, he does everything
• 18:37
humanly possible using hair products to maintain [laughs] this same- [laughs]... Salvador look that he had. [laughs] And he's got really weird facial hair and everything.
• 18:49
I mean, the, the documentary is cool because of the, the history of the bike stuff and, and how the, how Raleigh, you know, uh, kinda went away.
• 18:58
But it, it, uh, the guy, the guy's a super great [laughs] character for the movie. I'll try to find it and send you a link- Yeah. Yeah... to that so If, if you find it, I'll put it in, I'll put it in the show notes.
• 19:08
People, people should check the show notes out even if they listen to the show, 'cause a lot of times there's stuff in there that we either don't get to or forget to talk about and- Yes. It's like the X-ray- Right...
• 19:18
uh, option on Amazon Prime- [laughs]... kinda thing. Like, oh, yes, and this is this person who, oh, you may have known from the 1960 movie. Yeah. Yeah. Da, da, da, da, da. Right on. Uh-oh. Tony. Yeah. So people are...
• 19:31
And if any of- Oh... my Hungry Bear riders, I've been getting some emails of... That's May 13th, um, the Hungry Bear 100 gravel race that I put on up here.
• 19:42
People have been messaging me, like, "What, what are the conditions?" And- [laughs] Terrible...
• 19:47
I've kinda been holding off sending out a sort of formal reply to anybody because I don't know what the conditions are [laughs] gonna be. Right.
• 19:56
I sort of have no, I have no idea if winter's gonna just cling on and it'll be slushy, sloppy for three more weeks, or if we'll get another spate of 80 degrees and everything will be dry as a bone again.
• 20:11
Like- It's hard to say... like the Boy Scouts say, be prepared. Right. Yeah. It's so- Right... right. So that's, that's ex- you- perfect segue, Greg.
• 20:20
So that's why I, [laughs] I sent you the three bike pictures because, like, on any, uh, my fat bike, my Milwaukee Thrill 29er, and my Fixation, like, I have to be able to choose between one of those.
• 20:37
Every day could be different. You know? I could get two more inches of snow and then I gotta take the fat bike, you know? I, I... So yeah, it helps to have- [sniffs]... helps to have that quiver of tire widths.
• 20:49
So are, are you back to riding pretty much daily now?
• 20:53
You know, I, I, I had a really good grin going in the winter, and I even had one period where I was riding, like, 30 miles a day almost every day on my fat bike.
• 21:08
And up here, um, riding 30 miles on a fat, you know, there's lots of elevation in Seeley. So, so doing that was a pretty good workout. And then I, it, we got sorta like the warm...
• 21:22
The winter kept hanging on, and it was still great, so I'm like, "I'm gonna ski more."
• 21:27
So I sorta put away the bikes for the last, you know, three weeks of winter, um, just to ski 'cause it's like, I don't know, I'm skiing in, you know, March, and it's amazing, and it's warm.
• 21:40
And so I did that rather than fat bike. I did throw some fat biking in in the morning when the conditions were cool, um, and you could ride the trails without hurting them at all, um, which is w- was the case.
• 21:55
Almost every day it was below freezing in the morning. But I didn't ride a ton. I skied more. And now I'm looking at sorta crappy weather. I'm like, "Do I wanna be all Belgian and go out in the [laughs] rain?"
• 22:10
[laughs] Somebody s- I, I was talking about- It's spring classic season, so. Yeah. I was talking about our, uh, when we used to have the Urban Jungle cross races at the old Solvay plant.
• 22:21
Oh, I was- And then so then I, somebody's like- Yep. I remember those... "What, what's, what's cr- jungle cross?" I go, "Well, it's kinda like cyclocross." And they go, "What's cyclocross?" And I go- Ugh...
• 22:30
"Well, that's kinda like for road bikers who wanna ride in crappy weather." [laughs] So I said like... [laughs] I kinda had to explain what cyclocross was- Right... so they could understand what- Yeah...
• 22:39
jungle cross was basically. The re- reverse engineering. Yeah. Yeah. Dun, dun, dun, dun. It just got off that slide because those people are... [laughs] I mean, it wa- Same with Urban Assault...
• 22:47
well, it was, I think it was at Easter. It was a relative, and I'm like, "Oh, I can't really just blow him off- Oh, okay... for not knowing anything." And- Okay... I believe something about that. I don't know.
• 22:55
It could've been something else. I, my days mash together, so I'm not even sure who I talk to on any given day basically. Yeah. Uh-oh. [bell rings] Right. Hey. Hey, Tony.
• 23:04
Tony's where, Tony says we're at the top of the hill. All right. That's a good thing. What are you drinking? First. Let's, let's hear what Dave has while we figure out what we got here.
• 23:13
I am, I, because it is, like, uh... It was Flèche Wallonne this morning, and, uh, Amstel Gold last weekend, and it's Liège-Bastogne-Liège this, um, weekend. W- It's sorta like the peak week for spring classics for me.
• 23:28
Um, so I picked up, uh, some, um, you can't get much in the way of Belgian beer up here. Um, like, I couldn't find really any actual Belgian beer.
• 23:40
[laughs] So I got a, uh, Northern California North Coast Brewing Company Brother Thelonious. Oh. A Belgian-style abbey ale with a picture of Thelonious Monk on the cover- I believe I've had that. That's-...
• 23:55
on the, on the label... nice. Yeah. It's 9.4%. Whoa. Woo-hoo. Tasty. That's a kneecapper. Tasty, but it's, it hits a little hard.
• 24:03
Um, and the, the brewery I guess support, uses the money from it to support jazz education. Oh, shit. Yeah, that's awesome. But it's as Belgian as I could get up here. So what, what was the brewery?
• 24:15
Uh, North, North Coast Brewing Company from- It's like Fort Bragg or somewhere in- From- [laughs] In California... Fort Bragg, yep. Yeah, Fort Bragg... Fort Bragg, California.
• 24:27
Hey, there was a good, there was a good poll from, uh, from back in the olden times- Yeah, I was pretty impressed with that, man...
• 24:31
and I, I actually, I actually went through Fort Bragg and stopped there, I think is how come I might have that in the, in the memory banks. [laughs] Uh, Michael brought us... What did Michael bring us?
• 24:41
What do you guys, what do you guys drink? Uh, from Central Waters. Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. Horseshoes and Hand Grenades pale ale. This is a good beer. Oh.
• 24:49
Inspired by the music of the Wisconsin band Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. What is it? Pale ale. Uh, APA. American pale ale. 5.3% on the Elcahoos. Yeah. Ah, this is a damn good drinkable beer right here. I love this beer.
• 25:02
It's very drinkable- Yeah... and, and not a knee-capper. Uh, they, they, they generally have it on tap at Camino, and it's really good on tap.
• 25:08
Yeah, and it's not so boozaholy that you can't quaff a couple of them- No, no... for sure. Right, right. Yeah. It's very refreshing, 'cause I had- It's a tastier beer...
• 25:14
I had our normal palate-cleansing hams before this one, so... [laughs] Nice. Nice. Yeah. Well, yeah, I don't have too much else for you guys. I'll, I'll look for that, that Raleigh thing.
• 25:28
It, it really is pretty, pretty, uh, fun. It's about a 15 or 20-minute documentary on, on the demise of Raleigh, what happened to it. Oh. Right. Is it on YouTube or somewhere else? Tubi? Yeah, it's on YouTube.
• 25:40
YouTube, yeah. Right on. All right. You can't miss it. You'll know when you see the crazy guy in it. [laughs] Hope you find that. Otherwise- Nice... yeah. Well, g- We'll talk to you next time, I guess.
• 25:51
Yeah, give us a- Sounds good, man... give us a holler before the Hungry Bear if you wanna do a little quick, uh, you know, week or two before- Okay. All right... update. I'll do that. All right, Dave. Okay. Cool.
• 25:59
All right, thanks. Good, good to chat. Yeah. Okay. Thanks. Bye. Adios, guys. Bye. Dave Schlabowske, everybody. Speaking of races, don't forget about... I don't know if we already talked about, uh- Don't be racist...
• 26:09
the registration this year. Yeah, you ta- tell us about- Which we talked about last week, but- Tell us about that, but I also have a question about that after you tell us about that, Tony. What are you talking about?
• 26:18
I, I will pitch a tent this year instead of paying a hammock. [laughs] Shit, dude. Don't do that while he's mid-drinking, man. It came out his nose. [laughs] Oh.
• 26:27
At least it, it didn't come directly up, but it got- But it's flown in there? Oh, oh, man. [laughs] I hate that... swimming in the sinuses. [laughs] Oh, it's such a terrible feeling. Oh, dude. Thanks, thanks Tony.
• 26:38
That was good timing. [laughs] I didn't try it. It just happened. Oh, man. [laughs] Um- All right. Is this when you headset mic drop? So that's like- I can't do any worse, better, or anything.
• 26:47
It's like- Leave it on, I know... the May 6th. Is that what it is? Like- No, it's May 7th, and that's what my question is. Oh, it's- So it's Sunday, May 7th at- Yes... at, uh- Black Husky slash- Wu-Tang slash-...
• 26:57
Wu-Tang... Garden Park. But my question is, do you have to be there? I know that we've got a, we've got an entry because we did the bonus checkpoint last year. Oh, there's that part. So, uh- I don't know yet.
• 27:09
Last year they did make everyone be there, I believe. Well, here's the problem. Well, that was the funny- No. No, no, no, no. Wait, they did not. Last year was fucking funny, because all of a sudden I- Meaning John? No.
• 27:18
I, I remember like- John Laski... walking up to the tent table saying, "Okay, da, da, da, da." Um, and I looked at this line that was going into Black Husky,
• 27:35
and that was the line of people [laughs] that volunteered and, you know, you know, were [laughs]... That was their... Th- essentially, you had to stand in line instead of wait for a number to be called. Yeah.
• 27:50
Well, so- It was weird. It was weird... because they were at the rush. I, I just couldn't wrap my head around it.
• 27:53
Well, this is why my question comes up, because the day before, on Saturday, is that clunker ride in Osage, Iowa. Ah. And Dave just sent me a note today that he's taking off Friday the 5th.
• 28:04
So our plan s- is to go to Decorah the Friday night, do the thing on Saturday, and then stay- Sounds like you don't wanna race-... and stay-... the River West 24, buddy...
• 28:11
stay in Osage on S- on Saturday night and come back on Sunday. Oh, yeah. So my- You, you don't wanna ride? I wanna ride in Osage and do the 24 as well. You're gonna have to- [laughs]...
• 28:24
work that out with the, with the owners. I'm gonna have to figure that out. Otherwise,
• 28:28
otherwise, I haven't done it for the last five or six years anyway, 'cause if I do it again, then I'm supposed to have to get the tattoo, so. Ah, is that what you said? The tattoo? I know.
• 28:38
I did my- I don't wanna go back on- I, I did my self-imposed- I, I don't wanna, um-... first tattoo... I don't wanna go back on my own word.
• 28:42
I said I'd never put anything on my body that wasn't, you know, really deserved. But that'd be deserved. I don't know. It's deserved, for God's sakes.
• 28:49
I, I don't have, I don't have my kids- I- I don't have my kids' birth dates or anything, or my wedding date or anything. No, I got my- But it seems a lot more important than a bike race, but maybe not...
• 28:57
I, I got my kid, my wife's name on, and then, ooh, got another kid, so I gotta figure that out. You should just put a very large human on your back. Just get like a three-year-old tattoo sized- Daniel?...
• 29:08
Daniel on your back. Good God, no. A humongous outline. Oh, no, like the, like- It would be bigger than my lap... no.
• 29:12
It would be like- All, all you're reminding me of is the like Jackass Steve-O tattoo- [laughs] Right... where he got the full back. [laughs] That, oh God, I love that.
• 29:22
But- That was one of the best things I've ever seen... I did happen to, oddly enough, you're not gonna believe this, but Sunday I decided I should probably have some ham and hard rolls. From? Goddammit, Damian.
• 29:33
So I, I got up and made my walk over to Damian's and, and, uh, a- actually- Door was locked... funniest thing about it is I scared the living hell out of him. He didn't...
• 29:41
I, like, opened up the door so quietly that he didn't... And there was no one else in there. He doesn't hear the dingy, dingy, dingy. So he turns around and I'm there. No. He turns around and I'm there.
• 29:49
He's like, "Whoa." And, and needless to say, I, I brought ham and hard rolls- Well, he know, I, I-... and all of his three sons... he doesn't hear that well, right? Right. He n- He's damn near deaf. Right.
• 29:56
And it's only because of his hearing aids that he can hear anything at all. But anyway, uh, he's, since I'm team captaining for him, uh- Oh, that's where you got suckered into being on a team.
• 30:06
Yeah, I'm the Scardina's team captain. Ah. How many other riders you got on the team? He's got a full team, I believe. Oh, right on.
• 30:12
Um, but- Oh, good, then I don't maybe have to go do the 24 [laughs] But that means, also means that base camp for him is we're gonna be at Scardina's. Oh. On... Yeah.
• 30:19
So sorry, Sean, who somehow invited himself over to my house for the River West 24 this year, and I was like, "Uh, there's not gonna be anyone there."
• 30:27
What about, uh, is he gonna close the parking lot off and put a beer tent in there and stuff? Uh, the, not the, the garage space next door, the, uh, to the east there's that kinda... Yeah, that- Par- parking lot...
• 30:38
yeah, that area. Their parking lot. Yeah. Which he's gonna have a beer tent at for the, uh, Locust Street Days too. Beer tent right there. That's perfect. Yeah. It is perfect.
• 30:49
'Cause he does that brat patty special, and it's pretty fine. Oh, those are so good. Brat. He's pretty fine. Yeah, he, yeah. What's with the brat patties?
• 30:56
You, uh- Oh, I prefer that- You're acting like you're from the Midwest and what have yous... I prefer that over a brat, brat any day. Yeah, me too, for sure. Blasphemy. [laughs] It's a pork patty, Blop. Mm-hmm.
• 31:07
A Blo- a Block pork patty. No. With- I-... with brat seasoning. Speaking of seasoning, you know how State Bicycle does their, like, collaborations with other- Yeah, what did they just do? Taco Bell, baby.
• 31:22
[laughs] Taco Bell. Yo Caro Taco- Did you see a picture of it yet? No. So guys- I got the email... so, so-... I couldn't look at it... so I, I think, I don't know, yesterday- Is there a chihuahua involved?
• 31:30
Yeah, I don't know. Yo Caro- Yo Caro Taco Bell... Yo Caro Taco Bell. I think I actually have the plush- What is an algorithm?
• 31:36
That's when he's walking through and there's a Jeopardy question, and he stops, and he turns back, he's like, "What is an algorithm?" [laughs] The taco, the, the chihuahua?
• 31:43
I think I ha- [laughs] I think I have a, a b- The taco rhythm [laughs] Pretty sure I have a plush chihuahua that says Yo Caro Taco Bell when you squeeze it. Oh, yes.
• 31:52
Uh, so it, I think it's a really- Do you get that, like, three tacos or...? Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I'm sure. It's a really good-looking bike. Is it really?
• 32:00
Yeah, it's like black and purple, and s- I got, so I think- Oh...
• 32:03
I'm pretty s- I'm pretty sure the embargo l- ended yesterday or today, so I don't really think we're gonna spill the beans too much, but I'll have a picture of it in the show notes or something, and otherwise- Wow...
• 32:14
fa- Is it a Clunker style? Yeah, it's a Clunker. It's just got- 42069? S- and also it's painted cool, and it comes, on this particular one for that price, with the frame bag, which is, like, a hell of a deal. Wow.
• 32:26
'Cause that u- normally is, like, 69 bucks or something. Interesting. It's a good deal. I bet [laughs] I was like, "I gotta have one of every one of them." [laughs] Gotta catch 'em all. Yeah. It's like- [laughs]...
• 32:36
Pokemons. [laughs] Or, or at least, at least a friend has to have one. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I, I will, I- So, like, JK needs the Steal My Face one when they do it again or something. Well, doesn't, uh, didn't Kenny buy one?
• 32:50
Or, uh- Kenny got the, he, his was the, um, Yellowstone National Park edition. Did Brenda get the Steal Your Face? Do- not, not yet. Maybe. If they ordered it at, like, the super cheap deal thingy. Okay. I don't know.
• 33:03
Sometimes... See, speaking of super- I feel like she either really, really wanted it or already had it.
• 33:09
One of those things, 'cause she saw mine and she's like, "Okay, whenever you just are doing something else, I'm gonna take your bike." Ah. [laughs] "I'm gonna do it." Gonna- And it's like, "[sighs] Thanks."
• 33:21
[laughs] How's your, your, uh [coughs] low side? I need to- I haven't seen that thing in ages. I know. It still has a flat tire or something? [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. It's just got- I still gotta fix the flat tire...
• 33:33
it's just, just has a flat tire on it. It's got a flat. Dude, fix that. That bike rules. It does. It does. It's been a shitty whatever. This is the time of- It's a half an hour's work. You're a half an hour's work.
• 33:45
[laughs] Oh, less than that, man. [laughs] No- Oh... when, when it, oh, oh, oh, okay. You know what? I'm gonna give it a shot s- uh, tomorrow morning, yesterday morning, and [laughs]
• 33:59
if it's still, like, whatever that damn epoxy whatever that it wants to stay, uh, between the tire and the rim- To get the pop... that just somehow g- absolutely.
• 34:12
I don't know what it, there's some chemical reaction that just does not want it. Get your, get your cowboy boots on. I did- And step on it... all the big boy shit and whatever. Get your big ass heel.
• 34:22
And you were, that's what I was saying, when fuckin'- And crunch on it... and then fuckin' Pinnacle, that guy just had the right leverage and the right size of human being to go pop and get it.
• 34:33
With his, with his massive thumbs? Yeah. Did we mention that Pinnacle is closed? Yes. Yeah. Yes. So- That's what I'm saying... yeah. And it's right there at- You're next up. You know why?
• 34:40
Because he broke his thumbs getting your damn t- [laughs] tire off the rim. Well, let's hope that I can just go, oh, yes, that's a lot easier. Interesting. All right, everybody. He loosened it up.
• 34:51
I think we made it through this one. I got a lot more stuff, but I'm gonna put it in the show notes for next week- Yeah. Yeah... because, uh, there's some cool stuff we didn't get to, but we'll get to it.
• 34:57
It's not too super time-sensitive. Yeah. Happy 4/20, y'all. Uh, thanks Dave Schlabowski for being on the chew. That was yesterday. Tomorrow is 4/22. Also. 4/22. On Saturday. Tomorrow. Yeah, I got it. All right.
• 35:14
  Bye, everybody.
• 35:16
