Transcript
- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Bring it on.
- 0:11Welcome to What's Your Least Favorite Scary Movie?
- 0:13The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:16the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:17Family's favorite scary movie because we believe every horror
- 0:20movie rightfully has this fan base.
- 0:21Even if we don't always get it. My name is Tres.
- 0:25My name is Jesse, and guess what?
- 0:29It's my birthday week. Yeah, I got to pick a movie,
- 0:32very Jessie movie, and bring it on.
- 0:36Cheer or Die is a very Jessie movie.
- 0:39And for anybody new out there, birthday movies, Yes, we get to
- 0:43pick a movie every month, but birthday movies are special.
- 0:46It's a little special. You do something a little bit
- 0:48different to make it a more of an occasion.
- 0:50And this is definitely a Jessie movie if there ever was 1.
- 0:54Yes, it is a sci-fi original and it is the 7th installment of the
- 1:00Bring It On franchise, which I will argue is generally not that
- 1:04great a franchise in terms of like if you want to be like a
- 1:08film snob, no, but it's great in terms of I like to have fun with
- 1:12silly, dumb movies. Yeah, which is the camp that
- 1:14we're in. Yes, as people, absolutely,
- 1:17absolutely. So that's why we're talking
- 1:18about this this week. I don't have any other
- 1:21announcements. You didn't do a poll did.
- 1:23You did not do a poll. No.
- 1:24God damn it. I'm so sorry guys.
- 1:26Travis is the worst. I am the worst.
- 1:28So that's that's out there already.
- 1:30We're already we're already there.
- 1:32So I guess that just means that we move on into our episode
- 1:37cover trip. I guess so.
- 1:38Yeah, I guess so. So bring it on.
- 1:40Cheer Die premiered on September 27th, 2022.
- 1:45We actually have it on DVD. I found it the same place where
- 1:48I have found our entire Bring It On collection up until now.
- 1:52We're missing just one worldwide cheer Smack.
- 1:54Is that really. That's the world I'm missing?
- 1:56Yeah, I. Didn't realize we had that.
- 1:57Many. I found all six others at Half
- 2:00Price Books, one at a time. Well, actually the first three
- 2:04were in a triple pack. Yeah, but I mean, it's still
- 2:06like counts like I, I, I'm impressed that we have that
- 2:09many. Yep, so and Travis has been
- 2:12working his way through them, but we we had to do this.
- 2:15This month, this week. Well, we watched this one a long
- 2:17time ago. Yeah, it's God.
- 2:20I can't even remember when we watched it.
- 2:21When we found out that there was a horror movie Bring It On or a
- 2:24horror bring It On movie. We watched it immediately.
- 2:27Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 2:28And I don't know why people were so disparaging to it because
- 2:31it's fun. But we'll get to those thoughts
- 2:32on it in a minute, OK? It was written by Rebecca
- 2:36Mckendry and Dana Schwartz, with the story by Alison Faust.
- 2:40Directed by Karen Lamb, Music by Patrick Card, Caird Card.
- 2:46I'm not sure how exactly to pronounce it.
- 2:48It's CAIRD and special effects makeup by Aaron Merck, Starring
- 2:53Carrie Meadows as Abby Singer, Alton Wilmett as Mateo Adamos,
- 2:58Sierra Holder as Jackie Braun, Alexandra Beaton as Regan
- 3:03Winters, Marlo Zimmerman as Paige Simmons, McKenna
- 3:07Zimmerman's as Evie Simmons, and Missy Pyle is Principal Simmons.
- 3:13Sauna time for Taya. Yeah, that's an alarm that.
- 3:15We can, I'm not. I'm not trying to reread all of
- 3:18those names again cuz I've already done it like 3 times.
- 3:21It's OK, somebody outside decided to room up their truck.
- 3:23Real. Loud.
- 3:24Yeah, too. So we're just.
- 3:25Getting it everybody the the years is like extra sound in
- 3:28this part here. Sunday morning special.
- 3:32OK, Travis, it's time for our favorite game.
- 3:34Budget or back, Ted? Do you have a number?
- 3:40I got shit. OK, 'cause like, I don't, I
- 3:43didn't expect it, but I think it's pretty clear that this is a
- 3:46bug, Ted. Yeah.
- 3:48I mean, generally if we don't have the numbers, that means
- 3:50it's pretty low budget. Generally if it's produced by
- 3:52sci-fi, it's going to be a bug. Ted.
- 3:55Unfortunately, I can tell you that the rating on IMDb is 3.7
- 3:59out of 10. Well, 3.7 I mean, I'm not
- 4:04shocked. I'm not shocked, but I also
- 4:07don't think this deserves that low of a rating.
- 4:09Yeah, that's pretty harsh, I think.
- 4:11Yeah, yeah. I think it's.
- 4:12A three, I think it's. The same camp of people who
- 4:14don't like the Puniverse cinematic horror universe, Like
- 4:18they're like, why are you taking this non horror thing and making
- 4:21it into horror needlessly? Yeah.
- 4:23I guess yes, I'm along the lines of that.
- 4:25Unfortunately that's not my theme for other 2022 movies.
- 4:29We've we had a break from 2022 for a while. 2022 was a banger
- 4:33year. All of these movies we have
- 4:35talked about. OK, cool.
- 4:37But I did notice kind of a connecting theme to them, which
- 4:40is why the fuck are we in an empty abandoned building?
- 4:43Who's that for? Why are we here?
- 4:46Well, I think that's kind of interesting 'cause this is
- 4:49definitely movies that were done during COVID, which that kind of
- 4:52makes sense logistically why we had a bunch of those in 2022.
- 4:56Absolutely. That was a big part of their
- 4:58filming was that they could do their plans.
- 5:01COVID following protocol. COVID protocols.
- 5:04Yeah, I got the first movie smile.
- 5:07Yeah, what's a big room? And smile.
- 5:11Her family house well that her and her sister are fighting
- 5:15about. That's right.
- 5:16The big old abandoned house. That's right.
- 5:18Yep, Yep. That released September 30th,
- 5:212022. Budget of 17,000,000, a
- 5:23worldwide gross of 217 million. IMDb score 6.5 out of 10.
- 5:29Love that movie. Yeah, fantastic movie.
- 5:32Second movie. Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 5:36Oh boy. Cuz that that whole town's
- 5:38abandoned except for Leatherface and the Queen of Aldovia.
- 5:43Yeah, and also a garage. And a garage.
- 5:45Guy that likes his. Guns the Handyman.
- 5:47Yeah he is. He is a country song.
- 5:49Yeah, he is. That released February 18th,
- 5:552022. Budget of 20 million.
- 5:58I don't have a gross because it was a Netflix movie.
- 6:00It has a 4.7 out of 10. Talked about that one real
- 6:03recently. And then the third movie is
- 6:05Barbarian. Big old empty space in the
- 6:09bottom. Yeah, in the basement and then
- 6:11eventually they like go down to like an empty like greenery
- 6:15maybe. Yeah, something like that.
- 6:17Go watch it and find out. That's a fantastic.
- 6:20Movie Barbarian is such a good movie.
- 6:22It released September 9th, 2022. A budget of 4.5 million, a
- 6:26worldwide gross of 46 million and a 7.0 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 6:30Nice, I love it. Now it's time to talk about tag
- 6:33lines. OK, do we have multiple?
- 6:36We have the opposite of multiple.
- 6:38We have zero. We have zero.
- 6:41I know. How do you not need to like even
- 6:42do a single tag line for this? I don't care if it went straight
- 6:45to TV, like it still deserves A tag line.
- 6:46We have a DVD of it. Like you got to put something on
- 6:49the DVD. I don't think they put anything.
- 6:52They didn't. They didn't.
- 6:53It's a very bare bones DVD. It doesn't even have any special
- 6:56features. No special features.
- 6:58It is also super impatient. Like I like I put the disk in
- 7:02and I just kind of like walked around the house.
- 7:05So I get shit together to so we can take notes and then the
- 7:07movie is like, OK, we're playing.
- 7:09OK, yeah, like we're done. Yeah, it just, if you were
- 7:12watching this on cable, shit out of luck right now.
- 7:15Yeah, I hate when DVDs do that. They rush you like it's a menu.
- 7:18Just stay chill. It's all I need.
- 7:20I need like I need time. OK, yeah, despite all of that,
- 7:24despite the lack of budget, the lack of tag lines, the lack of
- 7:27DVD menu options, I was able to get some information between the
- 7:31Wikipedia and an interview with Karen Lamb for scifi.com.
- 7:35Cool. All right.
- 7:36I have a little bit of background who.
- 7:38Is Karen Lamb again? The director OK, so this is
- 7:41filmed to Winnipeg, Canada. And I mean, you could tell with
- 7:45some of the actresses, yeah, yeah.
- 7:47And it was filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, which feels
- 7:51kind of nebulous, like when are we calling the end of it?
- 7:54But they were very much following COVID protocols, like
- 7:57in terms of like, bubbling. And we saw at the end of the
- 8:00movie, as the credits are going, it shows them practicing the
- 8:03choreography and they're all in masks.
- 8:05So it's very much in that frame of.
- 8:09Definitely not 6 feet apart. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:13I mean it felt very much like the bubble years of DCC making
- 8:18the team. I mean, just like, Oh yeah, all
- 8:20major sports stuff like that too, yeah.
- 8:22So Karen Lamb actually didn't know that much about
- 8:25cheerleading when she was offered the possibility to
- 8:28direct this. So she went online and she did a
- 8:30lot of research. And she said she wanted to do
- 8:32research into modern cheerleading because she knows
- 8:35that it has evolved and she learned just how insanely
- 8:38athletic this is. It really is a sport and she
- 8:41wanted to kind of do justice by cheerleading as an athletic
- 8:47event and as of the training and everything that they go through.
- 8:51So I thought that was really cool.
- 8:52Yeah, I think it's that was one of the things I noted about this
- 8:55movie. You like some of the characters
- 8:56don't consider it a sport or consider it any of them
- 8:59athletes. And I just thought that that was
- 9:02like, that's just. It's so wrong it's not true.
- 9:05Yeah, I don't know how you can do the things that they do and
- 9:08not be athletic. Like honestly, you have to do as
- 9:11much conditioning as the football team does, but then you
- 9:13have to apply it to these specific sets of acrobatics and
- 9:17dance moves and everything, and you have to have precision and
- 9:20you have to be in tune with your teammates.
- 9:22Yeah, it's intense. It's really intense.
- 9:25This was going to be PG13 because it was on sci-fi, so she
- 9:28knew that she wasn't going to be able to utilize blood and gore
- 9:32the same way you do in a lot of horror movies.
- 9:34Gotta be creative and the way that a movie like this is just
- 9:36begging for to elevate it. Yeah, you can be creative with
- 9:40it. They're like Chucky.
- 9:41Chucky was a sci-fi show and they did pretty well.
- 9:43They did. So that's why instead she
- 9:46decided to focus on some of the the relationships and how
- 9:49important team loyalty is, especially with spoiler for the
- 9:51end, like where you discover that it's one of the team mates
- 9:55is the bad guy. So like they're supposed to hit
- 9:57that deeper blow. They used a choreographer named
- 10:00Tony Gonzalez, who has been a choreographer with the entire
- 10:04Bring It On franchise. Oh, wow.
- 10:06Yeah, the entire franchise. I and I went to his IMDb because
- 10:10I was like, I want to double check that this is like, you
- 10:13know, I'm doing my due diligence and Fact Check and I found out
- 10:16that he's actually done like a lot of like a fuck ton of
- 10:20choreography. If you're listening to this, you
- 10:23have seen his choreography. So if there's been dancing in
- 10:26film, he's done like he. He creates, it seems like that
- 10:28he's done a lot of music videos, but there were a couple of
- 10:32things that I specifically wanted to pull out for you.
- 10:34OK. He did choreography in Little
- 10:37Fockers. Who danced in a little?
- 10:40I don't because you never want to watch that one.
- 10:44It's not great. I have maybe watched it one time
- 10:46in my entire life so I don't remember anything from it all.
- 10:49Right. Like, listen, if you make Barbra
- 10:50Streisand that uncomfortable, I'm also going to be that
- 10:53uncomfortable. What?
- 10:54Happened to Barbra Streisand. Do you not remember the movie?
- 10:57No, I just said I don't remember anything from the movie.
- 11:00I don't even know if I've actually watched it to be
- 11:02completely honest. Anyway, he's a choreographer on
- 11:05that. OK.
- 11:06And then he did 2 episodes of The Office.
- 11:09Would you like to guess? I'm going to say season 7
- 11:13episode 1 where they do the opening where they're all
- 11:15dancing throughout The Office. No, I'm going to say God, what
- 11:22episodes have a lot of dancing? Is it silly stuff or is it like
- 11:27actual dance routines? Is it actual dance routines?
- 11:31Just tell me. He did the Niagara episode but
- 11:35where Jim and Pam get married. OK.
- 11:37And he did. Scott's Tots.
- 11:40OK, that one, that one has. What you gonna do?
- 11:43That one has like the funniest thing about these types of
- 11:47movies is like I got noticed this too.
- 11:50Like we watch a lot of cheesy movies and we watch this one
- 11:53Christmas movie Christmas with you and whenever like she's
- 11:58getting her like friends together, the dance for her
- 12:00quinceanera. They all get so into it, like
- 12:05seeing backup dancers in movies and they're all like animated
- 12:08and smiling so big all the time. You can tell.
- 12:09It's just like, I know that that's big for their whole
- 12:12thing, but it's always, it always stands out so much.
- 12:14Like that's not people. Like that's like that's, that's
- 12:17like a dancer. Those are people that are having
- 12:19fun learning choreography. You're no longer you're no
- 12:21longer a person if you're doing that.
- 12:23You're just a choreographer. You lose like your identity as a
- 12:25person. I would disagree with that.
- 12:29Just how it appears in film, like if people are just like
- 12:32casually dancing and then they break out into that right there,
- 12:34it just doesn't seem realistic to me.
- 12:36Yeah, if you're a person that's like background and you're there
- 12:39because you are able to pick up choreography, you're obviously
- 12:42going to have a different performance element with that
- 12:44because the background characters honestly a lot of
- 12:48times don't get much personality.
- 12:49No. So no.
- 12:50It's fine. And then I finally have one.
- 12:55One more fun fact. This was not a sound stage.
- 12:57It was shot in an actual abandoned school.
- 13:00Wow. And they did.
- 13:01It was about four weeks of shooting and three of those were
- 13:03night shoots. So it also really helped with
- 13:06like following COVID protocols and everything.
- 13:08Oh. Cool.
- 13:08Yeah. Huh.
- 13:10So, man, well, I guess that kind of like really helped with their
- 13:14whole set. Yeah.
- 13:15You know, like they didn't really have to do a lot of set
- 13:16design or anything like that. And you know, when I was sitting
- 13:19there getting all this information, I was like, is that
- 13:21part of the reason 2022 was so good is because everybody was
- 13:25trapped in their house going kind of stir crazy and starting
- 13:30to just think up wildly different?
- 13:33We talked about this when we did our sock coverage, how that
- 13:36movie started because the team knew that they needed something
- 13:42lower budget. So a single location is a good
- 13:45way to do that. I wonder if that's part of the
- 13:49reason 2022 is just such a fucking banger year.
- 13:53I feel like it definitely is like that was a year that like a
- 13:55lot of people like that had to get super creative, yes, with
- 13:58how to do these things. So and that, I mean sometimes it
- 14:02causes things to not turn on as good as it could be, but like if
- 14:06people are able to push through that like it usually makes a
- 14:08better product. Yeah, if you can really hone
- 14:10your creativity with it, it can be like, what is it host?
- 14:15Yeah, host. That that one super effective as
- 14:18a horror movie and it only being 40 minutes because that's how
- 14:21long you get on the free zoom. Yeah, and you know that's real
- 14:25after. The last.
- 14:26Episode With our new Fierce Eve episode, we had to cut off our
- 14:29interview after 40 minutes. OK, yeah, that's it for my fun
- 14:33facts. All right, So cool.
- 14:35I'm glad that you got stuff. Then yes.
- 14:37And so now we get to talk about it.
- 14:38All right, cool. All right, I'll kick it off and
- 14:40I'll talk about what I thought was good about it.
- 14:42Believe it or not, I have watched these movies pretty much
- 14:45since they've been out cuz my sister growing up was into them
- 14:49and then I actually enjoyed them whenever she would put them on.
- 14:53Like I watched the VHS of the first one.
- 14:54I don't know how many times growing up, but having that
- 14:59background and like experience with this franchise, I thought
- 15:01that it was really fun to turn this into a horror movie.
- 15:05I think it's, it's one that you can make that transition pretty
- 15:08seamlessly and it like you're able to tell a different story
- 15:14with it, but a similar story, like a same story.
- 15:18But like, I always like when like people take these
- 15:23properties or these things that aren't supposed to be scary and
- 15:26then they make them scary. Because it's taking those
- 15:28things, those common things, those things that we're familiar
- 15:31with and comfortable with, and adding that scare element to it.
- 15:35Yeah, exactly. And this movie, I thought did a
- 15:37pretty good job with that. It was all seamless.
- 15:40I like how they made it. The mascot, that's the killer.
- 15:43That mascot was actually really creepily designed.
- 15:49I mean, I did not recognize that it was meant to be a devil.
- 15:52No. I thought it was.
- 15:54I thought it was creepy the way it was.
- 15:55I was going to get into that in my bad actually.
- 15:57So I'll, I'll share some more thoughts on that here in a
- 15:59little bit. OK, yeah, I, I like that they
- 16:01made this a Swasher movie. I mean, they could have gone
- 16:04really any genre with it. They could have even gone
- 16:05supernatural if they wanted to. But like, I like that they went
- 16:08with Swasher because it's keeping it grounded and I
- 16:12thought that they had some pretty inventive kills with
- 16:14this. I like the one, especially with
- 16:16like the pressure thing. That was that's one of my top
- 16:19notes under my gig is the blood pressure cuff kill.
- 16:22Yeah, that was a creative kill right there.
- 16:24It's just like using whatever was available at the the school
- 16:26nurse. And Travis can tell you because
- 16:28I've been going to the doctor a lot recently.
- 16:31And this is how for the first time in 14 years of us being
- 16:36together that he has, because he's been coming to the doctor
- 16:39with me. This is how he has finally
- 16:40learned that I'm actually low key really afraid of blood
- 16:44pressure cuffs. Yeah, they, they freak me out.
- 16:47I. Used to play with those for fun
- 16:49at Walmart. I would go to the machine and
- 16:51just stick my arm in there and be.
- 16:52Like it's like an it's an element of claustrophobia for
- 16:55me. I can understand.
- 16:56That, yeah. And another thing I really like
- 16:59about this is that it was very self aware and it like they did
- 17:04the thing where they like say the name of the movie and if
- 17:07they bring it on they say cheer or die like, you know, stuff
- 17:10like that. They like called out like
- 17:13horror. Like they're like making
- 17:14comments about this basically being like what would be going
- 17:17on in a horror movie. Yes, I just like that I like
- 17:21that it didn't take itself super seriously.
- 17:23Yes, and I think they also did several, like little winks and
- 17:27nods to other horror movies, which I thought was great.
- 17:29Like we had a moment where they're pulling out a seat, like
- 17:33joking around because they're all Gen. alpha maybe at this
- 17:36point. Gen.
- 17:37Z probably. I don't know where it's.
- 17:40Alpha is like our nieces and nephews.
- 17:43Okay, yeah, so Gen. Z then and they're joking around
- 17:45about not knowing what a boom box is and then there's like a
- 17:48flash of light on the CD and one of those pry light probably they
- 17:52reference Saw. And then their big competitive
- 17:55team is Green Knight, which that was a movie that came.
- 17:57Out 24 movie. 24 so and I'm sure there were several more, but
- 18:01those are the ones that I was scribbling down in the margins
- 18:03of my notes. Yeah, yeah, that's for my goods
- 18:05pretty much. But it's a good time.
- 18:09Obviously I agree with all of those with you.
- 18:11I also think it it keeps the spirit of the Bring It On
- 18:14franchise. Like I said, they're not
- 18:16objectively good movies, but they're a fun fucking time.
- 18:19I'd argue the first one is objectively.
- 18:21Good. Well, the first one, yes, yeah,
- 18:22but it and it's and I don't mean objectively good and that it's
- 18:28like silly about cheerleading stuff.
- 18:30I I just mean in that like they're goofy and don't take
- 18:33themselves too seriously. They're very low budget, low in
- 18:37production, like they're straight to DVD stuff, which
- 18:41that's what I mean, they're like straight to DVD isn't always bad
- 18:44movies, but they're not always the best made, the best quality
- 18:48product. Yes, and I think what's
- 18:50unfortunate about that, and this kind of ties into some of my
- 18:53like ugly later is like when you see like misogyny tied to these
- 18:57types of things, especially like this is women's predominant
- 19:01sport and it's not treated as sport.
- 19:05And I think the same thing tends to happen with like movies that
- 19:11are typically geared towards women and especially young
- 19:15women. So I'm not saying it from that
- 19:18aspect. I'm saying it from like what you
- 19:19were saying. They're low budget, they're
- 19:21cheesy, they're a lot of fucking fun.
- 19:24Those are types of movies that I love.
- 19:26And the fact that they did this, kept that spirit and kept it,
- 19:30and also made it the spirit of a cheesy little budget horror
- 19:33movie, really great for me. And I, I wish I'd had some idea
- 19:37of the budget because I was surprised at some of the music
- 19:40that they they were able to include.
- 19:42Yeah. What were the standouts?
- 19:44There was the one, I can't remember who it is, but it's at
- 19:49the beginning when the green nights are going and it's from
- 19:51the rooftop, shouted out. Yeah, there were.
- 19:55And then there's Demi Lovato near the climax of the movie.
- 19:58Like, yeah, yeah, they had a decent, decent song budget,
- 20:02music budget. This is pretty impressive, yeah,
- 20:04to think about that. Yeah.
- 20:06And like we had we had an actual mystery going on with all of it.
- 20:09I just, I think it was a fun time.
- 20:11And like we've only watched it a couple of times.
- 20:14And so the whole time I was like, how are they going to
- 20:16split everybody up in a way that ends up making sense and isn't
- 20:19just like cliche, cheap horror writing?
- 20:23And I think they they did mostly an OK job with it.
- 20:26There were some parts that could have been better.
- 20:27They kind of leaned into it. They kind of call out the fact
- 20:30that they're what they're doing is a cliche horror move.
- 20:32You know, and then. That was their approach with it.
- 20:36Yeah, so I I think it's like, and it's a movie that it doesn't
- 20:41feel like it's dragging itself out too much.
- 20:43No, not really. We get to things pretty quickly.
- 20:45So. Yeah.
- 20:46All right. What is your bad?
- 20:49Well, OK, so the mask I was talking about, I just, I didn't
- 20:52think that the design was that great for it.
- 20:54I think the mask really took me out of it.
- 20:57I think that if you were to do something like that, like I, I
- 21:01don't know, there's supposed to be, it's supposed to be a devil,
- 21:03but it's like a big teddy bear. I like that it's different
- 21:06though, like, you know, comparing it to other movies
- 21:11where we see like, it's just a shiny plastic mask that goes
- 21:14over top. Think about like Scream Queens.
- 21:16They're the Red Devils. Happy Death Day with the plastic
- 21:22baby mask. Yeah.
- 21:23Like I, I think that I appreciate that this did like,
- 21:27more of a furry mascot suit because that's a little bit more
- 21:30realistic. The only other time we really
- 21:32see that is probably in Freaky and the mascot isn't utilize as
- 21:38much. True, but one of my biggest
- 21:40problems with it is the mask itself, which is just like.
- 21:45It's not a mask though, it is a headpiece that goes along with a
- 21:49full mascot like costume. Fine, let me rephrase the face
- 21:53itself. The face was a it's an issue for
- 21:56me. It's like, I don't know, like I
- 21:57just, I thought the design was a little week, OK, for my tastes.
- 22:02OK. Another thing is I I think that
- 22:05they could have went harder into either the goofiness or the
- 22:08scariness of the movie. I feel like they kind of like
- 22:12it's like a seesaw, like it's like a little teeter totter
- 22:15where they were trying to balance both.
- 22:18But like I, I feel like if you're going to try and be
- 22:20scary, be scary. If you're going to try and be
- 22:21goofy, be goofy. But like, I don't feel like we
- 22:25got enough of each of those for what they did.
- 22:28They kind of like did a little bit of this one and then thought
- 22:31that they needed to like, you know, now we did a little scary.
- 22:34Let's do a little goofy, like go harder with it, OK.
- 22:37I don't know, like it just like, because there were times where
- 22:42it tried to be really, really silly, like Scott's friend.
- 22:47Yeah, Danny I think is his name. Yeah, like they were really
- 22:50trying to make him like this really comedic character.
- 22:53And it's just like, man, some of that dialogue was a little
- 22:57cringy for me. OK, It's just, yeah, that's most
- 23:02of my bad stuff right there. I guess mine probably more than
- 23:06anything is that it? It felt like they were trying to
- 23:11give the characters depth and background, but because of the
- 23:14nature of the type of movie that this is, it felt a lot more tell
- 23:18don't show. Yeah.
- 23:20Like we, we were getting a lot of that information when we
- 23:23could have had it more. Like we keep going back to
- 23:27what's her name, Tori being a virgin, but she actually like
- 23:31the things she says are far more like sex positive.
- 23:36So that was a little bit confusing.
- 23:40We're told what Abby's relationship is with both Evan
- 23:45and Scott, but the way it plays out on screen is just kind of
- 23:50confusing and takes away the stakes of that.
- 23:53I feel like Evan was a super bad red herring too.
- 23:55Yeah. That's his entire purpose as a
- 23:58character in this movie is to be like, is he a killer?
- 24:00Well, and also it's just it's so Scott, I can I understand like
- 24:04some mixed feelings because he cheated on her, but she still
- 24:08probably isn't over the breakup and he definitely isn't.
- 24:11That all makes sense. But when they're trying to say
- 24:13that, like, oh, give Evan a shot and she's like, well, we've been
- 24:15friends since kindergarten. And then every time he speaks to
- 24:18her, he is fucking aggressive. And it's like, maybe Abby is
- 24:23just young and doesn't realize that she doesn't have to put up
- 24:26with mean men's bullshit. But it's also just 'cause it's
- 24:31like, you want us to have stakes in these character
- 24:35relationships, but all that ends up happening is like, I'm not
- 24:39upset when Evan ends up being dead.
- 24:42I think they just suffered with this character, especially by
- 24:46they they couldn't have any room for any like anything not
- 24:52conflict with him and Abby. Like they had that, like all of
- 24:55their interactions had to be like, intense to like, maybe
- 24:58label him as a killer. But The thing is if it showed
- 25:01him as an actual supportive friend instead of like this
- 25:04jealous quote UN quote friend zoned in cell like it would have
- 25:10much more stakes with him showing up at the school and
- 25:12being there potentially being aligned with the killers it
- 25:17would have more stakes to it. I think they tried that.
- 25:19I think that that's what they were trying to do whenever he
- 25:21had that moment with her where she called him creepy and he
- 25:24said that she was living out her moms dreams.
- 25:27And then they both apologized to each other and they had a
- 25:29somewhat normal conversation after that.
- 25:32But like it just I really whenever you chalk it up to
- 25:35anything, I think it was just bad writing in that instance.
- 25:38OK, yeah, what is your ugly? Man, I don't know.
- 25:42I didn't write anything down for my ugly because I had a hard
- 25:44time thinking of anything. But I guess like, I guess like
- 25:48the whole like attitude about the cheer team from the school
- 25:52with how they were like so scrutinized for even doing
- 25:56cheerleading. You know what I mean?
- 25:58Like you can't flip, you can't do anything.
- 26:01You have to have all your feet on the ground at all the times.
- 26:03Like what the fuck does that even?
- 26:04Like what can you do? And I recognize that this is
- 26:07going to mostly go over your head because you do not believe
- 26:10me that what the plot of Footloose is about.
- 26:12But it feels a very Footloose moral majority.
- 26:14This thing caused to death, so we're going to outlaw it
- 26:16permanently. It's dumb in this movie.
- 26:18It's dumb in that one too, OK? It's such a dumb idea.
- 26:22I fucking hate it. That kind of reactionary like
- 26:28rule creation isn't just in movies and TV though, You know
- 26:35it. I mean, I, I can buy it.
- 26:38It's just weird that they even let them continue having the
- 26:41cheer team. Yeah, that's what I'm saying in
- 26:42there. Just like cancel the team again.
- 26:44The principal could have done that from the beginning, but she
- 26:46just wanted to sabotage it or something.
- 26:48It's so fucking stupid. Yeah, and I I'm going to go also
- 26:53with the ugly, but more in how like again, and cheerleading
- 26:57isn't like a woman only sport, but it is predominantly
- 27:02associated with being for women in that kind of attitude of
- 27:08like, oh, it's not really athletic.
- 27:10Oh, it's not as important that that's a very true type of
- 27:18attitude that these types of athletes face.
- 27:22And I say that as somebody who danced for a large portion of my
- 27:25childhood. And then when I wasn't dancing,
- 27:27I did things like winter guard. It's very, it's very realistic
- 27:32when people are like, well, you're just moving around.
- 27:34It's like it actually takes a lot of a lot of athletic
- 27:39conditioning. I mean best argument in this
- 27:41case. If golf is a sport then that's a
- 27:44sport. Like come on.
- 27:45Like if you call people that play golf athletes and like what
- 27:49the fuck are we doing here if you're calling cheerleaders not
- 27:51athletes? Exactly.
- 27:53Exactly. Golf.
- 27:54You smack a ball and then you go drive like that's all you do.
- 27:57And I do think that like lately, there have been some good things
- 28:00that have come from like the rise of the popularity of docu
- 28:05series, especially Netflix has two seasons of Cheer and they've
- 28:10done two seasons of America's Sweethearts to kind of take over
- 28:13after making the team was cut from CMT.
- 28:16And I think those have done good things to show just how how
- 28:19athletic they're expected to be on top of like all of these
- 28:22other like expectations too. Yeah, Jesse got real big into
- 28:27the cheerleading stuff this past year.
- 28:28I did. Yeah, it's, I mean, it reminds
- 28:31me of my dance days. Yeah.
- 28:33So what is your absurd? Well, I guess we're kind of
- 28:37continuing on from the past thing we just talked about here,
- 28:40but I thought it was really stupid that like Principal
- 28:43Simmons is like, your athletes are trained, they know how to
- 28:46not injure themselves. And I'm like, that's the dumbest
- 28:49fucking thing I've ever heard. Like in all of my favorite
- 28:52sports that I watch, I have to deal with my like, favorite
- 28:55players getting hurt every fucking year.
- 28:58I get habits like they don't know any better than not get
- 29:01hurt. That's so fucking stupid.
- 29:03And if anything, like dancers and cheerleaders are going to be
- 29:07less prone to injury because they're practicing these same
- 29:10movements. Everybody's working together.
- 29:12There's not a surprise in the things that are happening,
- 29:15unlike football where you're actively trying to knock each
- 29:20other out, you know? Dude, I mean, like just like
- 29:24baseball, like people blow out their fucking tendons just by
- 29:29like running, like changing their speed all of a sudden too
- 29:32fast and stopping too quickly, you know, like, yeah, it's just
- 29:36like you can't like, I mean, it's just, it is what it is.
- 29:39It's just stupid to think like, Oh well, these other sports,
- 29:42they know how to not do this stuff.
- 29:43No, like they'll they'll blow out a fucking tendon like
- 29:46splinting. Again, they have to have all of
- 29:48the same athletic conditioning it there's there's more of an
- 29:53element of control with dancing and cheerleading.
- 29:55Not saying that injuries don't happen, because dear God yes
- 29:57they do. But I'm not even trying to say
- 29:59that like they can't get injured.
- 30:00I'm just saying the fact that you think that like athletes
- 30:03don't know how to get, that's my absurd.
- 30:05Like athletes get injured so easily all the time.
- 30:07Like it doesn't matter what you're doing.
- 30:09You can even get injured doing golf.
- 30:11Like it's just absurd to say like athletes know how to not
- 30:14get injured because no, watch sport just like do that and you
- 30:21will see. OK, OK, Mine is they're they're
- 30:26game, cheer or die 'cause they say that they have to do them
- 30:29perfectly. No, that shit's being done
- 30:32perfectly. Yeah, but they they're probably
- 30:35terrible judges for that. Also true.
- 30:38And then the other thing, 'cause they're because the rope breaks
- 30:42at the end and they're jumping from the top of the school to
- 30:44try and get to the school bus and everything, right?
- 30:46And they're like, cool, we'll, we'll catch Abby.
- 30:49They are 15 feet away from the edge of the building.
- 30:53Abby is not going to reach you, dude.
- 30:56That shot of her falling back and like they must have had a
- 30:59hidden like landing pad somewhere down there because
- 31:02she's dying there's. Nobody on the ground in that
- 31:05shot. She's dead.
- 31:07They are so far away, away from her.
- 31:09Maybe that's why they hid all of the information on this movie
- 31:12like we can't there was a death. Carrie matters.
- 31:16Actually. Dead.
- 31:17Yeah. OK.
- 31:20Well, OK. It's time to rate.
- 31:21It all right? What are you giving up?
- 31:25It's a solid movie. It's it's not great.
- 31:28It's not bad. I'm going to give it like a 5
- 31:311/2. 5 1/2 I'm going to give it a seven.
- 31:33I think it's it's more fun than it isn't and it it gave me
- 31:39exactly what I expected out of it.
- 31:42I had a fun time. Again, these ratings are just
- 31:44how I like intrinsically feel about something.
- 31:48So it's fair. I mean, this is something that
- 31:50you like. OK, so 36 point no 6.25, yeah,
- 32:006.25 starting average. OK, cool.
- 32:03All right, Well, let's get into it, OK?
- 32:05So we start off, we're in a cheer competition.
- 32:07It's 2020. It's God damn it.
- 32:09You did that this weekend and it's fucked me up.
- 32:11It's 2002 you. Know what?
- 32:13It would have been cool. This is around the time of the
- 32:16first Bring it on. I mean, that was in the 90s,
- 32:18right? But like, or was it early 2000s?
- 32:22I think it would have been cool to have like, have this be the
- 32:25competition where the toros. Yeah, that would have been
- 32:27really cool. That was a missed opportunity,
- 32:29unless that was something that they couldn't do for whatever
- 32:31reason. Bring it On was 2000.
- 32:34Bring it On Again was 2004. So so.
- 32:37They could have done it. Yeah, they could have had just
- 32:39They could. Have said in 2000.
- 32:41They could have just yeah, they or they could have just had like
- 32:44the more. Toros, Toros.
- 32:46Yeah, yeah, it was a missed. Opportunity.
- 32:48The Toros are the clovers. Yeah, it was a missed
- 32:50opportunity. Yeah, anyway, the Green Knights
- 32:53are on and we see the Diablo captains are watching and
- 32:57ridiculing and they're not with their team who should be on
- 33:00deck. And everybody's supposed to be
- 33:01there when you're on deck, but whatever.
- 33:02The captain tells Sandra that they've got to do like they're
- 33:07going to do this toss that. They hadn't practiced much and
- 33:09she was a little bit nervous about and she said too bad you
- 33:12got to do it. She's also sitting there with
- 33:15like a Nosebleed. Yes, yeah.
- 33:17She's just bleeding all over her face.
- 33:19Yeah, so they, she's got tissue stuffed up in her nose.
- 33:22There's no way that they would go out there with that.
- 33:24No, not the way it is, anyway. They get up into the formation.
- 33:28Sandra's at the top. She sneezes and she sneezes out
- 33:31blood and then the captain who is holding her like does a Paige
- 33:37Mitchell Chuck and knocks her down.
- 33:39So let me ask you something, 'cause I know a like a big part
- 33:42of the judging for these is like, you know, presentation
- 33:45with your face, your smiles and stuff like that.
- 33:48How many points do you think would be deducted for sneezing
- 33:50blood? I don't know that like a sneeze
- 33:54necessarily would be detected so much as it is like your ability
- 33:57to recover from it, but. The fact that like what if like
- 33:59you bloodied up one of the other cheerleaders faces with your
- 34:01sneeze? I I don't know that's.
- 34:03Got to be points off. So I didn't do cheerleading.
- 34:06What I do know from the documentaries is that you do
- 34:09have a chance to reset. If there's like a major like
- 34:12fuck up you can reset. You can.
- 34:13OK, so all right, I, I was just figuring like season blood on
- 34:18somebody's face has got to be a deduction somewhere.
- 34:21I don't think that they have a box for that.
- 34:24Whoa, it falls under other where you just check them.
- 34:27You like sneeze blood on face? Gross.
- 34:30Anyway, 20 years later, Abby is asleep on her desk.
- 34:34She's got she's late. She's gonna get to her football
- 34:36team and they're playing the Green Knights because that's
- 34:39apparently the only other school in the entire state is the Great
- 34:43Knights. There is a player, his name's
- 34:47Scott. Apparently it was a little bit
- 34:49confusing because they called him, was it Stalker Stan?
- 34:54Which like I get that a Stan is like a Stalker fan but it was
- 34:59also just very confusing. Yeah, I didn't even catch that.
- 35:02Yeah, yeah. I think it's really funny though
- 35:05that they're getting their asses beat at halftime.
- 35:07They're losing like 40 something to nothing, and everybody's
- 35:10going to like the fucking locker room to talk about the game.
- 35:13And he's like, hey, I'm gonna go talk to Abby.
- 35:16This coach gets so mad at him. Like, dude, you're getting your
- 35:19ass beat. Like, you should not be thinking
- 35:21about this right here. Think about the fucking game.
- 35:23Yeah, he basically Abby broke up with him because he cheated on
- 35:28her and she's just not willing to put up with that.
- 35:32And then the the creepy photographer guy in the stands
- 35:36is Evan, and he's been her best friend since elementary school.
- 35:39And I think that she could probably do better on both ends.
- 35:42They never say but is he supposed to be like the class
- 35:45historian or whatever? I get that impression, and I
- 35:49think this was definitely a thing that we always did.
- 35:51Shorthand for was like the loner guy who works for like the
- 35:55yearbook type of trope. Because we do get that a lot.
- 35:59Yeah, it just, they never say it, but he's like recording and
- 36:02taking pictures pretty much the entire time it.
- 36:05I feel like people think he's creepy enough that if he wasn't
- 36:09in the yearbook they would mention.
- 36:10Like why is he even taking pictures of?
- 36:11Us. Yeah, true.
- 36:12Yeah, well, there's also somebody else taking pictures on
- 36:15the sidelines over there and somebody trips over and it's
- 36:18Evie, one of the sisters of What's Carrie?
- 36:23No, Paige. Paige.
- 36:26It's Paige and Evie are twins and they decided they were going
- 36:29to do their own separate things and so Paige decided she was
- 36:34going to be a cheerleader and Evie is not.
- 36:37Yeah, and she's like, she's just jealous because I got the
- 36:39cheerleader. Like you all can both be
- 36:42cheerleaders. Yeah, so stupid.
- 36:43Truly. So Michaela suggests that they
- 36:47should do their secret routine because they are getting their
- 36:50asses kicked by the other cheerleaders over there.
- 36:53So they give it a shot and it fucks up.
- 36:57And the principal is there, so she sees them.
- 37:00She knows that they've been practicing in secret.
- 37:02So she calls in Michaela and Abby, captain and Co captain of
- 37:05the team, says they're not athletes because athletes get
- 37:08trained to not get hurt. As we talked about extensively,
- 37:12this is fact. Yep.
- 37:14So she's like, you cannot jump nor flip nor routine anymore.
- 37:18Yeah, 1 foot must be on the ground at all times.
- 37:21That's right, we are doing Olympic speed walking rules.
- 37:26And you know what? They break the rules speed
- 37:27walking all the time. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:30How do you, who even referees that?
- 37:33How do you judge that? Like you just got.
- 37:35Sensors in your shoes like what's happening?
- 37:37You like get on a skateboard and you just roll next to them, just
- 37:40have your foot down. OK, so.
- 37:45Michaela decides that she's going to take a loophole of the
- 37:47situation and she says, well, Simmons isn't going to be our
- 37:50regionals so she won't know what we're doing.
- 37:53And she said we're not allowed to do stunts on school property.
- 37:58But there's the abandoned school across town.
- 38:01And Paige says, oh, hey, school board still has the keys because
- 38:04they use it for storage. I can get us in there.
- 38:07And they're just, they're going to do a 24 hour cheer camp
- 38:10practice session on. Halloween weekend.
- 38:13Halloween because it's spooky. Yeah, Yep.
- 38:16So Abby, she's leaving school later that day and she sees
- 38:22Scott, he's winning a second chance with her.
- 38:25She's not willing to give it to her.
- 38:26We it's just basically a rehash of the first conversation, but
- 38:29this time we have Evan coming up to talk to her too.
- 38:32And like Jesse said before, it gets kind of aggro.
- 38:35He's just he, he gets really like he's like automatically
- 38:38accusing her of like going back with Scott.
- 38:41And they both lash out each at each other over this.
- 38:45And then they make up and then like, that's that.
- 38:49That's basically the entire scene.
- 38:50Yeah, I don't. I don't buy their friendship.
- 38:52No, I don't either. Michaela is home alone and she's
- 38:56doing a sheet mask. Yes, I love a sheet mask.
- 39:02Yeah, I tried to. I didn't say there's anything
- 39:05wrong with it. I said yeah, good for Michaela.
- 39:08Yeah, good for her. I thought you were going to say
- 39:10something about how I do a weekly sheet mask and I try and
- 39:13get the environmentally friendly ones with like the recycled
- 39:16packaging and everything but. Go green, baby.
- 39:18Yeah. It's good for your skin.
- 39:20It's good for if you've got like a dry and or combination skin,
- 39:24it's really good for treating those issues.
- 39:27So she hears a knock at the dorm and she goes to check nobody's
- 39:29there. And then she goes back to her
- 39:31room and she finds one of her picture frames or on the ground
- 39:34and it's all shattered. This is, man, it's such a
- 39:38cliche, and I don't know that if I was ever in a real life horror
- 39:45movie that I would make that connection because I've had an
- 39:47ongoing issue with my fucking diploma at work.
- 39:50Yeah, kept keeps falling off the wall and the frame shattering.
- 39:53It's starting to get ridiculous. We had our sign Krillin up on
- 39:57the wall that was falling apart too.
- 39:59Yeah, You know, it's just like, like we, we buy cheap.
- 40:01Frames Yeah. Am I gonna be murdered by one of
- 40:04my old classmates? And you're gonna be murdered by
- 40:06Krillin, Adult Krillin's voice actor.
- 40:09I would love to go out that way. Oh my God.
- 40:11Please, we've got we've got a real fun set of pictures with
- 40:14him. Oh, it's so good.
- 40:16Yeah, I got that saved in video for him too.
- 40:19It's so good. Hopefully, hopefully Travis will
- 40:22remember and put this video up on our social media so you all
- 40:26can see it. Remind me when this is getting
- 40:29edited and I'll put it up. Anyway, because her picture
- 40:32broke, that means she's dying. Yes, this is a horror movie, so.
- 40:35The person. 'S that's what we're getting at.
- 40:37This guy watched Halloween 5, OK?
- 40:39Like, it's like it would have been really funny if it was like
- 40:41a picture of Jamie Lee Curtis. Like what the fuck is this?
- 40:46He just said get killed. That would be you if you were a
- 40:48killer. Like you would just be like,
- 40:49yeah, yeah. Yeah, Oh, that would be awesome.
- 40:53So the bus arrives, They're missing three people, one of
- 40:56them including Michaela, and they're just like, Oh well.
- 40:59If they're here away, they'll just show up at the school
- 41:01themselves. I wonder if it was either like a
- 41:04filming schedule issue with some of the other people that were in
- 41:07their previous scenes, or if maybe two of the other cast
- 41:11members wound up COVID positive. Man, it could be dude, you could
- 41:16be on to something. Another thing I think I don't
- 41:19understand is why do they all have to take a bus over there
- 41:21together? Why could they not just show up
- 41:23on their own? I think part of it is this feels
- 41:31dumb to say. I think part of it is like club
- 41:33protocol, Like if you're part of a school club, transportation
- 41:37has to be provided. And I get why this is stupid,
- 41:39and I'm going to acknowledge that it's stupid because they're
- 41:41not supposed to be doing this in the first place.
- 41:42Yeah, they're going against school rules already.
- 41:44But I also think it's because they do have some freshmen that
- 41:47can't drive carpool. And I also think that it's so
- 41:52that way girls won't drive to the school and then try and
- 41:54leave early because it's Halloween weekend and people
- 41:56like Tori already have their costume figured out.
- 41:58Like they don't want to risk people sneaking out.
- 42:01Ah, I suppose. So Abby is going to collect
- 42:04phones when they get off the bus, that is, that is part of
- 42:07their plan. So when people are not
- 42:09distracted by their phones, she's like, go ahead, send
- 42:11whatever text messages you need, say goodbye to your loved ones,
- 42:15you know, wrap up any loose ends you have.
- 42:17This might be your last chance. This.
- 42:18Is it? The bus driver there might not
- 42:23be licensed to drive a school bus.
- 42:25He's auto. He's basically auto.
- 42:28He's auto. Yeah, Because he's like, I got a
- 42:31gig tonight. If he's done around 4:00, I'll
- 42:34be here at 5:00 and then I'm dead to the world.
- 42:37All right, which that it's not 4 in the morning now and it was
- 42:45supposed to be a full 24. I don't whatever it's.
- 42:47Playing by gremlins, it's. It's whatever and I can tell you
- 42:50like you can get a lot done in these like full intensive
- 42:54weekend long practices, but you're going to be stretching
- 42:59thin. Yeah, for sure.
- 43:01So they're at the school. It's creepy and it's dark, but
- 43:04they find the gymnasium and they get all set up there.
- 43:08Yeah. They're like, all right, well,
- 43:09since you took all of our phones, how are we going to do
- 43:10any music? And then somebody's like, oh,
- 43:12have you heard of a little old invention called a boom box?
- 43:17They have not. They have watched Gremlins
- 43:20though. I love that.
- 43:21I love the duality of these. That is fascinating to me.
- 43:25Yeah, that they watch Gremlins but don't know what a boom box
- 43:28is. You know what it's it's kind of
- 43:31like at work whenever younger people don't know what a fax
- 43:34machine is. And I'm like not willing to make
- 43:38fun of them 'cause I'm like, oh, I'm sorry, whose person's year
- 43:42of birth starts in a 2 that you don't know this ancient
- 43:45technology. I don't even think we should be
- 43:47using fax machines anymore. I'm not going to make fun of you
- 43:49for not knowing this technology. People still use them way too
- 43:51much, it's ridiculous. It really they're so unreliable
- 43:54and we have much better means of communication but.
- 43:57Some people are just old school. Well, they got the boom box
- 44:01going. They're going.
- 44:02They're it's a practice. Montage Yeah, we get a nice
- 44:04little warm up in practice. Montage I quite enjoyed it.
- 44:08And then it ends with Regan being dropped.
- 44:11Yep, she falls. Hurts her ankle.
- 44:13She's gonna get a 5 minute break so that way people can as she
- 44:16can elevate her ankle and people can go look for ice.
- 44:20But before they go looking for ice, they start talking about
- 44:24the story of 2002 explaining why the program had been cancelled
- 44:28in the 1st place, which I guess is why this school got shut
- 44:31down. I don't really know what
- 44:33happened or how they got on this topic.
- 44:35Yeah, it well, really we just needed the exposition of how
- 44:38this was tied to that incident. Yeah, pretty much.
- 44:40And it's just basically like the person died at the the end of
- 44:44that whole thing in 2002 and they shut down the program in
- 44:47the school and they just now revived the cheer program for
- 44:50them this year, I guess. And they said that she fell and
- 44:53broke her neck and was beheaded. And they were like, you can't be
- 44:56beheaded from a broken neck. And actually there is such a
- 44:59thing called internal beheading, where everything is severed but
- 45:04it's still skin. Yeah, well.
- 45:06Really. So, yeah.
- 45:07So that's an actual thing and that's why it's so important if
- 45:11you have any kind of an injury that could have possibly done
- 45:13anything to your back or neck that you don't fucking move.
- 45:16Yeah, but people are always like, get to that, get to that,
- 45:18get that. That's a good person that people
- 45:20go to. Like, damn, don't do that.
- 45:23That's the thing you're not supposed to do.
- 45:26Yeah, so Sydney goes to look for their phones because, you know,
- 45:30Reagan's hurt and they've got to, they've got to take care of
- 45:32her. I always want to call her Reagan
- 45:35but they keep saying Regan. The captions do not know how
- 45:38it's spelled. The captions change up multiple
- 45:41times and it doesn't match. What's an IMDb?
- 45:43I yeah, I would call it Reagan too, but we may be Exorcist
- 45:46biased. Yeah, that's definitely what it
- 45:48well, and it's the same thing as like Megan, Megan, Megan like.
- 45:51Megan Megan. God that just like I haven't
- 45:57done that in years. Unlocked Megan.
- 46:00Megan. We've been respecting Jordan
- 46:02Peele and his horror producer here, so.
- 46:06That's true, yeah. So anyway, Cindy goes to look
- 46:10for the phones and Quincy forgot to put ice in the cooler so Tory
- 46:17is going to go look for some ice in like the the nurse's office
- 46:21which you guys had to flip some circuit Breakers to get the
- 46:25lights on. Why frozen like?
- 46:27What are you thinking? It's not smart.
- 46:30We keep our freezer clean and there are still times where I
- 46:33pull out the ice bag and I'm like, I feel like I need to wash
- 46:36those, freeze it. It's like we're we're clean and
- 46:40in an inhabited home. Yeah.
- 46:42It's not been an abandoned school for 20.
- 46:44Years like here's your Petri dish.
- 46:48Enjoy, yes, Hope there's no broken skin.
- 46:51Well, so shoot which one is? This is this is Tori.
- 46:55Tori. Yeah.
- 46:56The mascot appears and throws scissors at her.
- 46:59Maybe. I thought they were scissors.
- 47:01It looked like scissors pulled apart.
- 47:02They. To me, I think they're like the
- 47:03little ninja dagger things that you throw.
- 47:05Yeah, it's a something with the. It's not sure it can cuz those
- 47:14are the stars, but it's a it's that it's one of those I've
- 47:23watched Naruto. It's a shish.
- 47:26It's a shish. It's.
- 47:27A Shish. It's a whole car game.
- 47:31OK, so yeah, throw scissors at her and she's like trying to
- 47:35fight the the devil. And I'm just, you know what?
- 47:39I'm just going to start using that whenever I'm describing any
- 47:42kind of a hardship in my life. I'm trying to fight the devil
- 47:45right now. Oh.
- 47:46Dude, that's straight from the South right there.
- 47:47You fit right in down here. I'm.
- 47:50Trying to fight the devil. Everybody's like you fight that
- 47:52good fight, you got it. Well, she loses this fight.
- 47:57She does, yeah. This is where she gets the air
- 47:59pressure thing. This.
- 48:00Is new fear unlocked? Like not that I think this could
- 48:05ever happen. Like, I don't know what if when
- 48:07I go in for my surgery next month, they're like, we're gonna
- 48:09take your blood pressure. It's intense.
- 48:13It's a pretty good kill. I'll give them good credit
- 48:15there. Sydney needs to pee with the
- 48:20buddy and nobody wants to be her buddy.
- 48:22And this is my Franny face for this episode of My Nose.
- 48:25Yeah. She's like, isn't a thing that
- 48:26people do. Like everybody needs a pee
- 48:27partner and like no you can go on your own.
- 48:30And also kind of like guard competitions because we would
- 48:33stay the night in the schools. They were hosted in the schools
- 48:35on the weekends. Every team would be like,
- 48:37assigned a classroom, really. They could stay in every night.
- 48:39Yeah. Weird.
- 48:41And This is why my family has so many air mattresses.
- 48:45You can bring your own air mattress.
- 48:46For that, that makes sense. And in non abandoned situations,
- 48:52like we still had bathroom buddies so nobody was going
- 48:55there on their own. Yeah, so I feel bad for Sidney.
- 48:59No, I yeah. I mean, it's a creepy building.
- 49:01Like all by yourself, like I I get it.
- 49:03Yeah. And she goes into the bathroom.
- 49:06Why is every abandoned bathroom nasty?
- 49:08Why can't an abandoned bathroom just be like a little dusty and
- 49:12that's it? If.
- 49:13People take out their frustrations on the building on
- 49:15their way out. They're like, this isn't my
- 49:16chance if you're. Going to shit on the building.
- 49:18Why would you shit in the toilet though?
- 49:22Be like and can't buy me love and shit on my house you.
- 49:25Shit, on my house we got that signed on our coffee by Courtney
- 49:30Gaines. Molokai, yeah.
- 49:34Yeah, all right. And she finds it an open stall,
- 49:38but it's got a bear trap in it, a makeshift bear trap.
- 49:42It doesn't have cutting like teeth or anything like that.
- 49:46It just like holds her in place. It's confusing, which I think is
- 49:51enough. Yeah.
- 49:52She's like, what is happening to me?
- 49:55Why am I suddenly in the movie, saw what's going on, and then
- 49:59that's just enough for the killer to come out, smash her
- 50:03head on the toilet? Swirly.
- 50:05Swirly her? Yeah, and then beat her with the
- 50:08toilet seat. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:11And. It's it's effective.
- 50:12Apparently. This is the lesson I'm learning
- 50:15from this movie is you don't need an actual bear trap to
- 50:17capacitate someone if you're ready.
- 50:19Just enough to distract them in like 2 seconds.
- 50:21That's all you need. And you know what?
- 50:23Yeah, it wouldn't have. It wouldn't have worked as well
- 50:25as she had a bathroom buddy. No, it wouldn't have.
- 50:28Yeah, See, they they fucked up Mateo and I can't remember the
- 50:32other person's name here. Jackie.
- 50:34Jackie. They decide that they're gonna
- 50:35go prank Tori. Love it.
- 50:37Yeah. You know, love these very
- 50:39believable shenanigans. Yeah.
- 50:41And they're. And they even go, wait, isn't
- 50:43our break almost up? And then, like, Sydney's not
- 50:46back from the bathroom yet. It's fine.
- 50:48Again, very relatable. Yeah, no, I get it.
- 50:50It's a good time. So they're just like walk in the
- 50:52halls and. They see Quincy, who's gone for
- 50:55air. Yeah.
- 50:56And basically what's happening is we're getting all these
- 51:00people out the gym because what happens in the midst of all this
- 51:03is Evan pulls up and he goes to the side door of one of the
- 51:06buildings. He's like, he's like, here's
- 51:08what you asked for. I just want to make sure that
- 51:10I'm there for Abby's moment of truth.
- 51:15So that's what all is happening. These are all of the players
- 51:19that are going on as Matteo and Jackie are looking for Tori.
- 51:24We have Paige talking to Abby. Paige doesn't realize that they
- 51:27break broke and entered. She did not realize this was the
- 51:30situation. She's a little bit of a goody 2
- 51:33shoes. She starts panicking.
- 51:35I get it. So she's going to go get some
- 51:36air. Also Quincy finds one of the
- 51:41doors chain locked and it's like whoa that's creepy because it
- 51:46definitely wasn't chain locked before and as he's like kind of
- 51:51being stoned and dealing with this slower.
- 51:54I never show him do the drugs. We.
- 51:56Just know who he is though. Yeah, we can't.
- 51:58Show drugs on TV. Yeah, we can't show drugs, but
- 52:01we can show the stoners, so that's what we're doing.
- 52:04And then he gets hit with a blow dart.
- 52:07They are finding creative ways to kill these people.
- 52:10Yeah, if they can't show the gore.
- 52:12It's a bulldart to incapacitate them and then they have an axe
- 52:15which it's a classic. Yes.
- 52:17And as he's being hit, the mascot, I guess, is far enough
- 52:21behind him that Jackie and Mateo on the other end of the hall are
- 52:27seeing him. They're seeing him like up
- 52:29against the door, and they think that he's just stoned and making
- 52:32out with the door. And so they laugh and go away.
- 52:34Well in a later shot it was shown that the person with the
- 52:39axe is the non mascot sister. Yes so that's why you don't see
- 52:43a big mascot there because she's so tiny.
- 52:45She's just behind him. She's she itty bitty little
- 52:47thing. So Scott and Danny meanwhile,
- 52:51outside of the school they're on, they're in Scott's truck and
- 52:56they're going to go check on Michaela because Abby asked
- 52:58Scott to check on Michaela because she didn't show up.
- 53:01And it's not like her and Abby's only friends are cheerleaders,
- 53:06her ex-boyfriend and her toxic friend from Elementary.
- 53:09School. Yeah, she's got a solid friend
- 53:10group right there. I'm happy for her.
- 53:14And yeah, I mean, they're basically just in the truck.
- 53:17Like, yeah, dude, you should go for Abby again, bro.
- 53:20Like, come on, love. And then when he realizes
- 53:22they're going to Michaela's house, it's like, nice move on,
- 53:26Reba. Yeah, that.
- 53:27Was pretty good. Yeah, I like, I think Danny
- 53:30probably could have been a really effective, like comedic
- 53:34relief character, but it was just, it was a little forced.
- 53:37Some of them weren't, some of them he had his moments, but he
- 53:40also has some very forced dialogue for sure.
- 53:43So back in practice, they decide that they're going to try to
- 53:45lift with Paige. This is Paige's first year on
- 53:47the cheer squad. She's afraid of doing the basket
- 53:50toss, and she kind of like, wiggles a little bit too much
- 53:53while she's up there. They end up falling.
- 53:54Jackie gets hurt. Yeah, and she's like, fuck this,
- 53:58I'm going to go to the bathroom. I get this because I'm a person
- 54:01when I get hurt like that, I I'm angry at gravity in the world
- 54:08and whatever I've hurt myself on and I'm like I need 2 fucking
- 54:11minutes. Give me a second.
- 54:15I'm like I I get mad when I get hurt.
- 54:18I just I need a second it's. True so.
- 54:25So I get Jackie in this moment, except she gets to the bathroom
- 54:28and she finds Sydney. Yeah, it finds body, calls
- 54:31others. Everybody else is checking out
- 54:33the body. And they find the the phones,
- 54:36they are tossing toilet in the toilet.
- 54:38And so none of them work. They even make a reference like,
- 54:42oh, these are waterlogged, we don't have any rice, blah, blah,
- 54:44blah. So we know that they're all out
- 54:45of Commission because that's a thing in modern horror.
- 54:49You have to figure out how to disable the cell phones.
- 54:51Yep. So they now.
- 54:54They go back to the gym because they're just going to grab their
- 54:57stuff and get out, and they find a notebook near 1 of the bags
- 55:00with #cheersleigh. Yeah, it's a deathless.
- 55:04And it's got the cliches with points assigned to them.
- 55:09Yeah, which I guess is it like originally it was a book for the
- 55:13football team, like where you got points for having sex with a
- 55:16certain type of person. Yeah.
- 55:18So it's now been reformatted into.
- 55:21You get so many points for killing a certain type of
- 55:22person. Gross.
- 55:24And so that this is gonna lead to the rest of the movie, them
- 55:27trying to figure out who is which.
- 55:28Cliche. Like we've got.
- 55:30Yeah, we've got the jock, the klutzy.
- 55:33Was it klutzy nerd? Yeah, the sexy blonde, the bad
- 55:37ass. Yeah.
- 55:38So there's a lot of different and like it's interesting
- 55:41watching them try to figure out who is what and like them
- 55:44landing on different possibilities.
- 55:46Yeah, I like. That they grab their stuff, they
- 55:52haven't seen Tori or Quincy still, and they're like, well,
- 55:54we'll find them on our way out and tell them that we're coming.
- 55:58All of the doors are chained. And they realize that they're
- 56:02trapped in there. That this list is, you know,
- 56:05serious business. And they need to find everybody
- 56:07else on the list, figure out who's assigned what.
- 56:09Jackie and Reagan are going to stay in the gym because Reagan
- 56:12still can't really move around that much.
- 56:15I love this fit as the rest of them are looking around and
- 56:18Matteo's like, OK, we need to be able to assess the threat alert.
- 56:22So like if we see a situation, we can rate it from like 1:00 to
- 56:2610:00. And 1:00 would be like a Girl
- 56:28Scout trying to sell you cookies.
- 56:30And 10 would be like a madman with an axe.
- 56:33I don't know what a Girl Scout with an axe would be, but I just
- 56:36figured this is a good starting point.
- 56:37It's like. He says maybe 6, which I was
- 56:39such a thing myself. I started on five but then I was
- 56:43like, you know what 6 is right because the axe edges you.
- 56:45You above medium just having the.
- 56:47Axe alone and not the figure that Axe is threatening.
- 56:49Yeah, you're back. You're in the scarier side of
- 56:51the the spectrum there with that right there.
- 56:54And I'm telling you, this cracked me up so much.
- 56:58They Scott is he can't find Michaela at her house, so he's
- 57:03like going around. He knows what her room is like,
- 57:07which window it is, and he peeks in the window can't see her body
- 57:10there, but he does see the calendar that mentions that
- 57:12they're at the abandoned school. So he's like, hey, cool, we'll
- 57:16just go there instead. Yes, and you know, I keep a very
- 57:19detailed calendar too, so if we ever go missing people, if they
- 57:24peek into our window and be like, oh shit, that's where
- 57:27they're at this weekend. Jackie and Regan are flirting.
- 57:34Like, oh, you might be the sexy blonde, not the nerd.
- 57:40Then unfortunately our scouting group they find Tori pinned to a
- 57:45wall. Very Halloween esque.
- 57:47I like I. Like this part because
- 57:49beforehand we did have like a little shot of like the paper
- 57:52cutter and I guess it got used here because when they go in
- 57:55their materials like worst spirit fingers ever.
- 57:58Yes. That's a fucking call back to
- 58:00bring it on right there. I like it.
- 58:02You've got to have spirit fingers at least in mention.
- 58:06They all go running once they find this.
- 58:09The Diablo is shooting arrows at them like full bow and arrow.
- 58:13I like that Mateo is like trying to dodge them by just doing
- 58:15cheerleading moves but it just doesn't work.
- 58:17He still gets hit. I love it because this is that
- 58:21good balance of like, stupid, goofy and horror because it's
- 58:25like, no, obviously doing a back handspring is not going to be
- 58:28the most efficient way to get away from an arrow.
- 58:31Yeah, but it still shows off the athleticism of it and like,
- 58:34yeah, I think it's fun. I.
- 58:36Liked it, it was a good moment. Dan and Scott Danny and Scott
- 58:42are at the school now, and they hear like helps as they're going
- 58:45on and they. I think it's like a Halloween
- 58:48thing or Danny does it, but he's just like, it's Halloween, bro.
- 58:50They're just fucking with us and he's like, I gotta go pee.
- 58:53My body's telling me things. And he's, he's dressed as a
- 58:55mummy, so it's going to take some time.
- 58:57Yeah, yeah, it was not a very efficient mummy, mummy costume.
- 59:01No, so he's going to the bathroom.
- 59:03Scott's waiting for him, but he hears Abby screaming.
- 59:06So he's like they're yelling back and forth trying to find
- 59:08each other and they don't find each other.
- 59:11But Abby finds a room that has ATV with a note.
- 59:14That says first she finds Quincy, does she?
- 59:17Yes, she finds Quincy. He's in the stairwell and she's
- 59:20talking to him and he's somehow still alive and he gets a really
- 59:24dramatic death scene. Yeah, that's right.
- 59:26I forget. About it I do.
- 59:27I did think he did a good job with his death monologue.
- 59:29He. Did good.
- 59:30Yeah, he did. Good, Mateo.
- 59:32This is where he's getting shot with the arrow and you know, he
- 59:37gets hit in the shoulder and he's like, well, you're out of
- 59:39arrows now, bitch. And that's when the Diablo pulls
- 59:41out knives that just starts throwing those instead.
- 59:44Abby, this is where she's like running around trying to find
- 59:47Scott and she runs into a room with the TV, the old, the old
- 59:52school TV on a cart setup with the VHS player.
- 59:55I'm surprised I knew what a VHS was.
- 59:57And ACRTTV, Yeah, with, you know, not knowing what a boom
- 1:00:01box is. And it said play me.
- 1:00:03So she pushes in the tape and it is Michaela kissing Scott under
- 1:00:08the bleachers. So not only did her boyfriend
- 1:00:11cheat on her apparently multiple times, but her best friend
- 1:00:14friend cheated on her and. Co Captain.
- 1:00:16And that's worse. Yeah, honestly, like high school
- 1:00:20boyfriends are whatever. Friends are supposed to be
- 1:00:22stronger than that. Yeah, so Scott walks in and
- 1:00:26she's watching the tape and he's trying to explain everything,
- 1:00:29but the mascot follows him and he starts to fight off the
- 1:00:33mascot while he lets Abby go. And he gets hit in the head with
- 1:00:35a bottle. And we have talked about this
- 1:00:37multiple times on the show. That shit is that is career
- 1:00:42ending shit like you don't, you don't, yeah.
- 1:00:45Like you're. Yeah, it is hard to break a
- 1:00:47bottle. It takes a lot of violent force.
- 1:00:50Yeah, and if it does break, you're getting cut the fuck up
- 1:00:55like you're bleeding out. Yeah, it's bad.
- 1:00:58Matteo runs into Danny who thinks all of this is a prank
- 1:01:02and is just like kind of laughing.
- 1:01:06Doesn't believe Tori is dead at first.
- 1:01:08Does get upset when he learns she's a virgin, but then the
- 1:01:11Diablo ends up hitting him with an arrow.
- 1:01:13Guess the Diablo went and recollected the arrows.
- 1:01:15Yeah, yeah. And yeah, it's a headshot.
- 1:01:17He's dead. Abby, Mateo and Silent Stu are
- 1:01:20back in the gym with Jackie and Reagan.
- 1:01:22Paige runs in and the Diablo follows and then Paige grabs
- 1:01:27Reagan, holds her at knife point and Evie takes off the mascot
- 1:01:32head and reveals she's the Diablo and she killed Evan.
- 1:01:38So Sandra from the beginning of the movie of the bloody sneeze,
- 1:01:42The bloody sneeze and the internal beheading.
- 1:01:44Wait. First, can I just mention did
- 1:01:46you notice how bad this fake knife was?
- 1:01:49I did not notice how bad the fake knife was.
- 1:01:51They may as well have bought it from Dollar Tree.
- 1:01:54Oh no, it. Was just like full on plastic.
- 1:02:00What I did notice was, you know, that wasn't a good segue.
- 1:02:04I don't have like anything worth noticing.
- 1:02:06I was just going to lay out some very obvious facts.
- 1:02:08Sorry that was that was I'll leave it in.
- 1:02:11Bad segues happen sometimes. But a segue is a segue.
- 1:02:13A segue is a segue. What matters as we get there.
- 1:02:16Sandra was principal Bull Simmons, twin sister of the
- 1:02:19internal decapitation. She raised her children for
- 1:02:23revenge because that's a sane and rational thing to do.
- 1:02:28Abby's mom was the team captain that pushed Sandra.
- 1:02:33So you know, we're just continuing the cycle of
- 1:02:35violence. It's the Prince generational
- 1:02:37trauma. Yeah, the principal is their
- 1:02:38mom. Yes, I thought I said that.
- 1:02:41You might have, I don't. Know, I thought you were going
- 1:02:43to say it's the principle. Like, you know, the whole point
- 1:02:45is revenge. It's the principle of the
- 1:02:47matter. That's what I thought you were
- 1:02:48getting at it first. No, I'm not that smart.
- 1:02:53So they've come up with a game called Cheer or Die and I must
- 1:02:57cheer in perfect form or they will die.
- 1:03:00Jackie's the jock, which I think is really funny when you see on
- 1:03:03IMDb that her full listed name is Jackie Braun.
- 1:03:07Jackie Braun. Really.
- 1:03:08Yeah. Jackie Braun Breaker.
- 1:03:14Well, she nails it next. Up she does.
- 1:03:17She does. Kick, kick, split fish flop.
- 1:03:20Yeah, I, I didn't write hers down.
- 1:03:22I wrote down Mateo's. It's a backhand spring step out.
- 1:03:26And he's got to start from standing.
- 1:03:27So no running round off backhand.
- 1:03:29Spring Stew has to do a back tuck.
- 1:03:34And we found out Stu is the badass.
- 1:03:37Yeah, No, Stu is a back handspring.
- 1:03:39Back tuck. I can't reap my own nose.
- 1:03:42It's bad handwriting. That's OK, Ray again.
- 1:03:44Who's the klutzy nerd? She has to do a Randolph back
- 1:03:47walk over. And then Abby is like, well,
- 1:03:50hey, she's hurt. Don't you want to keep your
- 1:03:54leverage? And that's distracts them long
- 1:03:58enough for everybody to start fighting using the power of
- 1:04:01cheerleading. Yeah, they just fight back using
- 1:04:03all kinds of cheerleading moves. It's so cheesy.
- 1:04:05It's cheesy, but honestly, that's what I want from this
- 1:04:08movie. Yeah, it nails it's dramatic
- 1:04:10fight scenes. It's right.
- 1:04:11It's right for what they needed right here.
- 1:04:13And this is where we have Demi Lovato start playing.
- 1:04:16Yeah, so they they defeat them temporarily run away, they run
- 1:04:20into a room and find Evan's body all hung up.
- 1:04:22Yeah, that's not great. So then they run the other way
- 1:04:25and they wind up in a dead end like.
- 1:04:28Like an outside. Yeah, like a courtyard type
- 1:04:30situation, but it's walled in. So they realized that it's far
- 1:04:34enough that they could basket toss somebody up to the roof.
- 1:04:37So the only person they can use is Abby because Reagans hurt and
- 1:04:42Jackie is not like flyer size. Yeah, so they Addie has to get
- 1:04:47over her fear of heights and they do it and she gets up there
- 1:04:50and throws down the rope and they only a.
- 1:04:52Rope at the top up there, already tied to something and.
- 1:04:55I love it. That she was even like this is
- 1:04:57weird, whatever. So convenient.
- 1:05:02And so she throws the rope down and they're all climbing up.
- 1:05:05Mateo is the last one up. And then Edie comes down.
- 1:05:08She's grabbing the rope from the other end and trying to pull him
- 1:05:10down and she. Lassoed him with another rope,
- 1:05:14his ankle. Yeah.
- 1:05:15Is that what happened? Yeah, she like lassoed his ankle
- 1:05:18and it's like pulling him down. I don't know how the fuck that
- 1:05:20happened it. Seems like Evie might have been
- 1:05:23the better twin to be in the cheerleading team.
- 1:05:26I know that's why she was so jealous.
- 1:05:28Man. Yeah, so she's like pulling
- 1:05:31Mateo down and then. Abby jumps down.
- 1:05:34Yeah. Not hurting herself somehow.
- 1:05:36Somehow, and she's fighting her and she ends up slicing her
- 1:05:39throat and yeah, it's a it's a sharp shovel every time.
- 1:05:45Every shovel does forever and ever.
- 1:05:47I won't just now think of never hike alone.
- 1:05:50Oh yeah, that's an effective weapon.
- 1:05:51Yeah, so they're, you know, thinking that they're all good.
- 1:05:55They're walking along the roof. They're ready to go back to the
- 1:05:58bus. Jackie and Reagan kiss and they
- 1:06:03see the bus. They use their rope to climb
- 1:06:06down, but the edge of the building is apparently serrated
- 1:06:09and it cuts through the rope and.
- 1:06:13Abby's the last. One Abby's the last one, and
- 1:06:15they stand 50 feet from the edge of the school.
- 1:06:18And they're like jumping charms. We gotcha, fine, we gotcha.
- 1:06:22And then Paige is like, ah, you killed my queen.
- 1:06:26And so Abby jumps down, except she doesn't actually jump down.
- 1:06:29She does a trust ball, which is an even bolder move with how far
- 1:06:33they are standing away from the school.
- 1:06:36Yeah, it's just bad for him all around, but so bad, you know
- 1:06:40what? Despite the reality of the
- 1:06:42positioning of everything here, they catch her.
- 1:06:44Yeah, she's OK. She survives.
- 1:06:46And they get on the bus and then the bus driver is trying to be
- 1:06:49philosophical and they're like, no, you don't understand.
- 1:06:51We really need to go. But it gives enough time for
- 1:06:54Paige to shoot him. Yep.
- 1:06:56So Abby is like, fuck it, I'm driving this bus.
- 1:06:59She drives towards Paige Page ducks under the bus and doesn't
- 1:07:02get hit. And they're like.
- 1:07:03She's so dumb though, she's like ha ha you missed me.
- 1:07:06So they just throw it in reverse, back over her and then
- 1:07:09run over her again. Yep, she's done.
- 1:07:12Yeah, One year later, we see the Green Knights perform, and then
- 1:07:18we see the Diablos come out to a big pop.
- 1:07:20Yeah, this must have been like insane news, news coverage, and
- 1:07:25everybody was just like real excited to see this team.
- 1:07:28The way that this is all shy, it reminded me so much of that
- 1:07:32episode of It's Always Sunny where they're like doing the
- 1:07:34freedom, like everybody like the same reaction.
- 1:07:39It was like the same crowd reactions.
- 1:07:41And they don't even, like, bring all of the teams out to do the,
- 1:07:45like, the announcements for the winners.
- 1:07:49They're just like, all right, Diablo's win and everybody's
- 1:07:53cheering and Principle Simmons not in any kind of disguises up
- 1:07:56there. And it's like crossing out all
- 1:07:59of the surviving cheerleaders faces.
- 1:08:01Yeah. So about the.
- 1:08:01Pamphlet or brochure or whatever.
- 1:08:02I'm just like, Yep. So there's room for a sequel.
- 1:08:05There is room for a sequel. Room for a sequel.
- 1:08:07And then we we got to credits and we just see them all
- 1:08:09practicing. Yeah, which I thought that was
- 1:08:10kind of cool to see all of the the work that went into, you
- 1:08:14know, trying to get this stuff down.
- 1:08:15A lot of like warm up exercises that I am, I'm so intimately
- 1:08:20familiar with, including the ones where they go out there in
- 1:08:24freestyle. Yeah, that's one that we
- 1:08:26actually did a lot to help us loosen up and get did.
- 1:08:30You freestyle really interesting.
- 1:08:33I can see where your freestyle was.
- 1:08:35Awkward. Yeah, I see.
- 1:08:37See where I was seeing them do that.
- 1:08:38I was like, that's my nightmare. Like I don't, I don't thrust me
- 1:08:41in front of everybody and make me dance.
- 1:08:43Yeah, I can. The whole point is to like
- 1:08:45loosen you up and get you in like performance mode and
- 1:08:48confident and all of that, but OK.
- 1:08:51But yeah. That's it, all right, that's the
- 1:08:53movie. I'm gonna keep it at 7:00.
- 1:08:55This movie is exactly what I wanted it to be.
- 1:08:57It felt like a bring it on movie.
- 1:08:58It felt like a sci-fi horror movie.
- 1:09:02It was a sci-fi bring it on horror movie and it worked.
- 1:09:06The way you say that and you make a song, it's also science
- 1:09:08fiction, sci-fi, the network. Yeah.
- 1:09:13Yeah, I'm keeping mine at 5 1/2, but I agree it like it is good
- 1:09:19at what it does. It's a fun twist on the the
- 1:09:23franchise for sure. I I haven't like an entertaining
- 1:09:26time with a. Absolutely, Talia.
- 1:09:30Talia was having a pretty good time with it too.
- 1:09:31Sorry. She's very playful.
- 1:09:33She was just, she was into it. She likes watching the the
- 1:09:38dancing and cheerleading and docu series and whatnot with me.
- 1:09:41She says that she's an athlete and she has trained herself to
- 1:09:44not get hurt. And we say absolutely not.
- 1:09:49Yeah. So Talia gives us 10. 10 OK.
- 1:09:55Zoe's ultimate warrior. Well, that's a that's a tough
- 1:10:02one. I think Zoe's ultimate warrior
- 1:10:07would probably be Sydney. Cause like having that moment of
- 1:10:13like, it's weird that there's something on my fight.
- 1:10:17This is a distraction. I think it's more like the being
- 1:10:20afraid to pee alone cuz anytime Zoe goes back to the litter box
- 1:10:23fire. She's like, she's like, I want
- 1:10:25you guys to know that I am back here in case anything happens.
- 1:10:28Body system. Hello.
- 1:10:32Hello. Yeah, she goes a full.
- 1:10:35Olivia Hussey in Black Christmas.
- 1:10:37Hello. Hello.
- 1:10:40Hello. OK.
- 1:10:44OK, what? What would Don do?
- 1:10:54That's what he would do well, I think.
- 1:11:03I think he would understand the whole thing about it being
- 1:11:06family. I think, OK, I think this is
- 1:11:09going to be a very hops heavy one cuz maybe his daughter, she
- 1:11:17stopped with the soccer, went into cheerleading.
- 1:11:19This is a spin off. Dom is not involved in this one.
- 1:11:22This is a Hops and Shaw. Film, yes, yes, absolutely.
- 1:11:25And Deckard is like shit. I've got I've got a third
- 1:11:31sibling, you guys. Yeah.
- 1:11:32I shouldn't tell you about Elizabeth before.
- 1:11:35He's a cheerleader. Yeah, he's a male cheerleader.
- 1:11:37He's. He's a walking man, yeah.
- 1:11:42He's not given the respect he deserves.
- 1:11:45Yeah, so like, his daughter is a cheerleader and his brother is
- 1:11:50also a cheerleader. And then Queenie is just there
- 1:11:52as a judge. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:57Vin Diesel is none the wiser. To any of this, Yeah, he's just
- 1:12:00like he is just currently living with Letty and his baby.
- 1:12:05Yeah. I don't know what the what age
- 1:12:08the baby would be at this point. I don't know either.
- 1:12:12They're still at the dam right now.
- 1:12:14They got to figure. That, yeah, that's true.
- 1:12:15That's true. They're they're dealing with a
- 1:12:17lot right now. Yeah.
- 1:12:19OK. Who did you relate to?
- 1:12:22Well, let's see. God, I don't know.
- 1:12:29There's not a lot of people in this movie that I related to.
- 1:12:32You gotta find something. Our way to Danny, because follow
- 1:12:42your heart, OK Yeah. Or move on, whatever you need.
- 1:12:47Yeah, just. Do do what?
- 1:12:49What it feels right. Yeah, OK.
- 1:12:52I guess I probably, I'm probably really tabby because I've had
- 1:13:00that Co captain like come on guys, we can do this.
- 1:13:07OK. OK, dream sequel.
- 1:13:10All right, well, well, they won regionals.
- 1:13:13Let's take it to Nationals. OK, take it to nationals.
- 1:13:16I want now that we're out of COVID and that everybody
- 1:13:19listening to this has been convinced this is a good movie
- 1:13:21and we need a sequel to it. They're more teams are going to
- 1:13:25be involved. Yeah, the toros preferably.
- 1:13:27I want them to be in the mix somewhere.
- 1:13:28And one of the judges is just going to be a little cameo from
- 1:13:32Kirsten Dunst. Oh my God, that would be great.
- 1:13:34Or if you need anybody, you can get.
- 1:13:38Helen Mirren. No faith.
- 1:13:45Oh, Eliza Dishku. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:47Yeah, Oh, what if she, she's like, she pops up and she's
- 1:13:55like, I know how to handle meeting cheerleaders.
- 1:13:58Oh, there we go. Yeah.
- 1:14:01OK. Yeah, I mean, she has a bad ass.
- 1:14:03Like she'll like help like down the villain in that movie.
- 1:14:06Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:14:08And I want like more teams involved.
- 1:14:09I want more like it. It seems like it's gonna be, you
- 1:14:13know, either the Green Knights or the Toros or the Diablo's,
- 1:14:16because those are like our top three performers or the Clovers
- 1:14:19too. And I keep forgetting the
- 1:14:22Clovers. I'm I'm the bad guys in the
- 1:14:24first Bring It On movie. No, like everybody suspects it's
- 1:14:29one of them. Yeah, until like halfway through
- 1:14:32the movie. 1 of their main team team members guys.
- 1:14:38What if the killer is like dressing as all of the mascots?
- 1:14:42Oh, that's fun. Yeah, that's fun.
- 1:14:44I think that would be cool, yeah.
- 1:14:46I want the killer to start doing some cheerleading moves too to
- 1:14:49kill him. That would be pretty cool too.
- 1:14:51Because like, we had cheerleading moves to defeat him
- 1:14:52in this one and I want cheerleading moves to kill them.
- 1:14:55That's. OK, there we go.
- 1:14:58We got something all. Right, I'm feeling it.
- 1:15:00OK, What is a tagline? It's not even a new tagline,
- 1:15:03It's just a tagline. What's a tagline?
- 1:15:06Oh man, bring it on, cheer or die.
- 1:15:13I'm still big red. I'm still big red.
- 1:15:19Just throw it back to the to the original bring it on movie.
- 1:15:22Yeah, that's not bad. Trying to fight that devil.
- 1:15:27Or something like turning fingers in the spirits.
- 1:15:35These, these fingers turn you into spirits.
- 1:15:39You're dying by these fingers. These fingers are killing you.
- 1:15:42You're turning into a spirit. I'm trying to get out there what
- 1:15:48I'm going for. Help me mold this and this
- 1:15:50something that actually works as a tagline.
- 1:16:03Fuck it, let's just do the big red one.
- 1:16:05Let's just do the big red one. We don't need to spend this much
- 1:16:07time on this hold. On, hold on.
- 1:16:09We're getting a good tagline for this.
- 1:16:11This movie deserves a good tagline.
- 1:16:13These aren't spirit fingers. These are.
- 1:16:16Spirits. These are spirits.
- 1:16:19Yeah, 'cause as in ghosts. I had to explain to you that's
- 1:16:25what the first time I. Get it?
- 1:16:27That's what I'm. Trying to do yeah, OK.
- 1:16:29You didn't seem to believe me. I believe you.
- 1:16:32I think that that works. I think that's a good one.
- 1:16:35OK, that's what we'll do then. OK, unless you could think of a
- 1:16:39different. One Nope.
- 1:16:40OK, that's it. I I'm struggling myself.
- 1:16:42I can't. I'm blinking entirely.
- 1:16:44We're there. It's OK.
- 1:16:45We got something. We got it OK.
- 1:16:48I've got 2. I did 2 reviews.
- 1:16:51I wasn't sure where you were going to land on this hold.
- 1:16:52On what's the reviews? No, we always do the Internet
- 1:16:55reviews first. I don't know why you have
- 1:16:57forgotten the order of this suddenly.
- 1:16:58I I don't know. I don't, I don't know.
- 1:17:04And even though we both were more on the positive side, I
- 1:17:08still have these are two ends of the same coin and I think it
- 1:17:14will be interesting to read both of them.
- 1:17:17So the first one is a three out of 10.
- 1:17:19Should have been released on Disney Plus or not at all.
- 1:17:22I'm gonna slasher movie kind of mood is late.
- 1:17:24I watched New Year's Evil the night before last and to all a
- 1:17:27good night. Shortly before that I decided to
- 1:17:29pay a visit to the bread box because I noticed the two out of
- 1:17:31the three locations that my town have were removed without
- 1:17:34warning. Much to my surprise I saw that
- 1:17:36they had Cheer or Die because I heard that it was supposed to
- 1:17:38air on the sci-fi channel around Halloween.
- 1:17:40This movie pretty much is pretty much a bloodless affair and is
- 1:17:43so tame. That was some tinkering.
- 1:17:46This could have easily obtained APG rating and premiered on
- 1:17:48Disney Plus. This movie contains almost a
- 1:17:50dozen death scenes, none of which are particularly
- 1:17:53memorable, but I did find it odd that the killer brought a set of
- 1:17:56throwing knives to fling occasionally.
- 1:18:00This had the potential to be a decent time waster had they
- 1:18:03added gallons of blood and some creativity, but this is barely a
- 1:18:05horror film as it stands. Not, I mean, because it didn't
- 1:18:11have gory deaths. Yeah, I think they still had
- 1:18:13some creativity with it and you can have movies without a ton of
- 1:18:17core and have a fun time. I still think it's a fun time
- 1:18:19waster. Yeah, I think so too.
- 1:18:20I mean, they like it, Yeah. It doesn't go hard.
- 1:18:23But like, you know, I don't know if this is something that
- 1:18:25Disney's really wanting to put out there.
- 1:18:28Well here's the other end of this.
- 1:18:29OK same coin. This is an 8 out of 10.
- 1:18:33I came in watching this movie expecting nothing because of its
- 1:18:35PG13 rating but it's honestly not that bad.
- 1:18:38The killer motivation is understandable and the acting is
- 1:18:40OK. The kills are not explicit but
- 1:18:42still not appropriate for younger viewers.
- 1:18:44This movie is almost like this movie is nothing like the
- 1:18:49original bring it on franchise. It just feels like it uses its
- 1:18:51name. Disagree, it's honestly a decent
- 1:18:54movie and to me it was entertaining.
- 1:18:56The first two acts were good and it kind of falls apart at the
- 1:18:58end. I do like the Cheer or Die title
- 1:18:59and it's a fun flick to come across by.
- 1:19:01If you do cheer or are interested in cheer, I recommend
- 1:19:04this movie to y'all and I disagree.
- 1:19:07Like, none of the sequels to the original Bring It On feel like
- 1:19:12the first Bring It On, but all six of the ones after 2000 feel
- 1:19:17the same, this one included. Yeah.
- 1:19:19I mean, like, I think the only thing that this one was really
- 1:19:21missing was like strict like competition against another
- 1:19:24team. Yeah, that's really the only
- 1:19:26thing that was. Laughing.
- 1:19:27And they even kind of try and hint at it with like.
- 1:19:30With the Green Knight. Stuff with the Green Knights,
- 1:19:31yeah, those are their rivals. Yeah, and like, it starts with
- 1:19:34them competing against the mittens, with them competing
- 1:19:36against them. It's just that's not the enemy
- 1:19:38of the movie. The enemy of the movie is the
- 1:19:40killer. Yes, exactly.
- 1:19:41Which I guess you could have made the enemy the Green Knights
- 1:19:45mascot, killing them. Can that be?
- 1:19:47The ending to our sequel to this is that it really is.
- 1:19:50Actually, all of the teams are trying to kill each other.
- 1:19:52Yeah, that's yeah, like a fantastic point.
- 1:19:54In that. I I like that.
- 1:19:57Oh, it's the mascots for all of those teams.
- 1:20:00And the mascots are sick of being ridiculed and they're
- 1:20:02trying to get more parts, like more recognition, like the
- 1:20:05cheerleaders. Get.
- 1:20:06Something's happening. Here, there we go.
- 1:20:09And that's it right there. That's the story.
- 1:20:12Love it. Dude.
- 1:20:12Hey Sci-fi. Call us.
- 1:20:15Yeah, we're ready, clearly. We're ready to be called.
- 1:20:18Up. Yeah, OK, well this might
- 1:20:21surprise you, but I do have somebody that wrote us something
- 1:20:23for this. Yay.
- 1:20:26You might agree with this. It's cube saves.
- 1:20:27Who says I was gonna? Ask it was cube saves.
- 1:20:30Says not enough clovers in the atmosphere.
- 1:20:35Yes, that's a fantastic review right there.
- 1:20:38I love it. That is great.
- 1:20:40Yeah, honestly, like this movie, it is worth the 349 rental fee.
- 1:20:46Yeah, it's not bad if. You're at all interested.
- 1:20:49It's worth it. If you have like a smidge of
- 1:20:51interest, like it's not, it's not that bad.
- 1:20:55Like you can like it's, it's what, what is $3 worth to you?
- 1:21:00You know, or if you find this movie out in the wild like we
- 1:21:02did, like we got it for like probably 2 bucks, you know?
- 1:21:07Yeah, it is. It's a good time.
- 1:21:09It's it's dumb fun. That's all it is.
- 1:21:11We're going to be doing the exact opposite next week because
- 1:21:14Travis has decided to. I chose violence.
- 1:21:18Just yeah, he woke up one day and was like, you know what,
- 1:21:21We've been getting along too well lately.
- 1:21:24We're going to be talking about wrong turn 6.
- 1:21:28This is also rental only. It is not worth whatever you're
- 1:21:31going to pay to rent it from YouTube, Google TV, Fandango at
- 1:21:35Home, Prime, or Apple TV. Just listen to us talk about it.
- 1:21:38And that will probably still be traumatizing enough.
- 1:21:40I know it will be traumatizing enough for me.
- 1:21:42Yeah. I mean, we got to talk about
- 1:21:46them, OK, and. I'm going to my moment of
- 1:21:50violence will be choosing the remake when you're least
- 1:21:53expecting. It I'm, I'm ready for it.
- 1:21:55We'll do it. We'll like, we have that one on
- 1:21:58DVD now, you know, like, I hate that movie, but we have it like,
- 1:22:03come on, Like it's been a year since we've talked about Wrong
- 1:22:06Turn. We want to talk about it again.
- 1:22:08We need another Wrong Turn movie.
- 1:22:10It's time. Even if it's six.
- 1:22:12It's time for another Wrong Turn, OK?
- 1:22:16We took a wrong turn away from the light of God.
- 1:22:22I'm trying to fight this devil right now.
- 1:22:26OK, well on that, I think we will go ahead and end this
- 1:22:29episode then. All right, you can.
- 1:22:32Oh, we we want to shout out our bubbies on the Patreon before
- 1:22:35anything else. So we have Joe.

- 1:22:52like, confetti, envelope stickers, all of that.
- 1:22:56Yeah. And our disc player stopped
- 1:22:58working, yeah. So we were able to get any disc
- 1:23:01player thanks to you guys. Yeah, it actually did just fully
- 1:23:04crap out and it was something that we needed to get for a long
- 1:23:06time. Yeah, we we were pushing it as
- 1:23:09far as we could and it became very clear that that wasn't not
- 1:23:13going to be an option anymore. So for us to be able to keep
- 1:23:16watching anything we have on disc for the show, it was
- 1:23:19needed. Yeah.
- 1:23:20Thank you guys that support. We always put it back to the
- 1:23:24show. Yeah, so we, we really do
- 1:23:26appreciate all of you guys so much.
