- 2:47Sunny mornings send you. In local news, the Massachusetts
- 2:53Department of Environmental Protection has decided
- 2:56that radioactive wastewater from the Pilgrim
- 2:59Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth will not be
- 3:02discharged into Cape Cod Bay. This decision,
- 3:05announced on Tuesday, comes after a two -year
- 3:08review and is seen as a good outcome for the
- 3:10region, according to Andrew Gottlieb, executive
- 3:13director of the Association to Preserve Cape
- 3:16Cod. Holtec, the company responsible for cleanup,
- 3:20had requested a permit for discharging up to
- 3:231 .1 million gallons of treated wastewater, claiming
- 3:27it was the most environmentally friendly option.
- 3:30However, the agency classified the water as industrial
- 3:33wastewater, which is prohibited under the Massachusetts
- 3:37Ocean Sanctuaries Act. Holtec may appeal the
- 3:40decision while local residents remain concerned
- 3:43about the ongoing evaporation of wastewater.
- 3:46which releases small amounts of radioactive tritium.
- 3:55Now onto sports. The Arizona Cardinals knocked
- 3:59off the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, beating
- 4:02them 26 -14 when they were the biggest undergogs
- 4:06of the week. They looked good on offense, defense,
- 4:10and special teams. As a result, people are taking
- 4:14notice. and they are getting a little love. In
- 4:18new NFL power rankings from NFL .com's Nick Schuch,
- 4:22they flew up six spots, moving from number 25
- 4:25to number 19. The upset of the week belongs to
- 4:29Arizona, a team most everyone counted out in
- 4:32the opener at Los Angeles. Mike Loeffler's group
- 4:35played inspired, fearless football. In local
- 4:40sports, Boston falls to Texas 4 -2. Last night
- 4:44in Arlington, as Patrick Sandoval couldn't touch
- 4:48Jacob deGrom, who improved to 11 and 9. Nick
- 4:52Sogrid's homer was the lone bright spot. The
- 4:56Sox, now 82 and 69, are right back at it tonight
- 5:00at 8 -5. It's Jake Fennett, opposite tough, lefty
- 5:05Mackenzie Gore, looking to even the series before
- 5:08Thursday's finale. Off the field, interim manager
- 5:12Chad Tracy ruled Justin Slayton out for the season
- 5:16with elbow issues, though Saedon Rafaella is
- 5:19building back up from his quad strain. Over at
- 5:23Foxboro, the Patriots shuffled the roster. They
- 5:27signed receiver Chandler Brayboy and released
- 5:30Hassan Haskins as Travion Henderson progresses.
- 5:35Mike Frable's already bracing for Pittsburgh's
- 5:37past rush Sunday. flagging Cameron Hyward and
- 5:41T .J. Watt. Meanwhile, the Celtics are still
- 5:45processing the Jalen Brown for Paul George Blockbuster,
- 5:49with George now paired alongside a recovering
- 5:52Jason Tatum. On the ice, the Bruins open camp
- 5:56today after landing J .J. Peterka, though Matthew
- 6:00Poitras remains unsigned. And B .C. Football
- 6:04is watching two injuries. Linebacker Bodi Kahown
- 6:08is now discharged after a scary hit, and center
- 6:11Michael Crowns is still out. In top news, in
- 6:18part two of our three -part series, we're looking
- 6:20at what's creating the Kelvin wave heading towards
- 6:23Southern California, and why what's happening
- 6:26in the Pacific this year is so unusual. The story
- 6:30starts thousands of miles away in the tropical
- 6:33Pacific. During El Nino, enormous amounts of
- 6:37warm water shift eastward across the equatorial
- 6:40Pacific. When that movement reaches the Americas,
- 6:44some of its energy travels north, along the coastline
- 6:47as what's called a coastally -trapped Kelvin
- 6:49wave. And Southern California's ocean was already
- 6:53unusually warm before this wave arrived. At Scripps
- 6:58Pier in San Diego, researchers had recorded 42
- 7:01daily, record -high water temperatures by mid
- 7:04-August. Now a powerful El Nino is developing
- 7:08on top of those conditions. The National Oceanic
- 7:12and Atmospheric Administration says there's a
- 7:15greater than 90 % chance this becomes a very
- 7:18strong El Nino this fall and winter, and currently
- 7:22gives it a 75 % chance of reaching historic strength.
- 7:28Calvin waves can also push colder water deeper
- 7:30below the surface. suppressing the normal upwelling
- 7:33that helps cool Southern California's coastline.
- 7:37And this may not be the only Kelvin wave we see
- 7:40during this El Nino. Tomorrow, we'll put everything
- 7:44together and explain what these conditions could
- 7:47mean for Southern California's beaches this fall
- 7:50and winter. In business news, Walmart Incorporated
- 7:56is expanding its restaurant delivery business
- 7:58through a partnership with Papa John's. allowing
- 8:01customers in select U .S. markets to order pizzas
- 8:04and desserts through Walmart's app and website.
- 8:08The service is expected to launch this fall,
- 8:11expanding to thousands of participating locations
- 8:13nationwide. This move fills on Walmart's broader
- 8:17push into fast delivery, with U .S. e -commerce
- 8:20sales increasing 24 % last quarter. The partnership
- 8:24could drive higher customer engagement, as it
- 8:27allows shoppers to combine pizza orders with
- 8:29groceries. However, concerns remain about the
- 8:33complexity and low margins of restaurant delivery.
- 8:37In crypto movement, Bitcoin is down 2 % to $76
- 8:42,000. Ethereum is down 4 % to about $2 ,000.
- 8:48And if XRP is down 8 % to $1 .30. Moving on to

- 9:39now, back to the show. Let's talk tech. The Roman
- 9:45Space Telescope has enough gas for 22 years,
- 9:49double NASA's expectations. NASA's Nancy Grace
- 9:52Roman Space Telescope is on a precise trajectory,
- 9:56with fuel expected to last twice as long as initially
- 9:59planned. Originally, designers aimed for a minimum
- 10:03lifetime of five years with a possible five -year
- 10:06extension. Thanks to meticulous planning and
- 10:09execution, Roman now has fuel for at least 22
- 10:13years of operations, according to Jamie Dunn.
- 10:17It launched on August 30 from NASA's Kennedy
- 10:20Space Center in Florida aboard a SpaceX Falcon
- 10:23Heavy rocket. Astronomers anticipate insights
- 10:27into the universe's largest structures with Roman's
- 10:30wide -field capabilities. And in entertainment
- 10:36news. This year is shaping up to be one of the
- 10:39best for Guy Ritchie's fans. The writer -director
- 10:43is finding major success on television after
- 10:46launching Young Sherlock on Prime Video earlier
- 10:49this year. His hit Netflix crime thriller The
- 10:52Gentleman starring Theo James, has returned for
