- 0:10Speaker 1: God bless football.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Mike y A, God blessed football, Taylor.
- 0:17Speaker 3: God blessed football.
- 0:18Speaker 4: Israel gutierres God blessed Football. Jonathan Wiener, Thank you.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Israel Gutierrez. Hello, Taylor, Vippolis went formal.
- 0:30Speaker 5: I'm gonna still call Mikey a Mikeyya because I'm terrified
- 0:33Speaker 5: of his last name.
- 0:34Speaker 6: I just call him a.
- 0:39Speaker 5: Robert Griffin Third is going to join us talk about
- 0:42Speaker 5: what he's doing with the National Flag Football Team.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to that.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Robert Griffin the Third might be the greatest athlete to
- 0:49Speaker 5: have ever played in the NFL. I know he got hurt,
- 0:53Speaker 5: but in terms of athletes, he's right up there.
- 0:56Speaker 6: Is he?
- 0:56Speaker 4: If you see him on in a hallway somewhere, I
- 0:58Speaker 4: was gonna stay in the street. If you see him
- 0:59Speaker 4: in a hallway somewhere, how are you addressing him?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:02Speaker 4: Blank? Is it r G three? Is it Robert? Is
- 1:06Speaker 4: it Robert Griffin the third?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Huh, It's gotta be r G three, Right has to be.
- 1:12Speaker 4: But say that, say that to somebody. Say that to
- 1:15Speaker 4: me right now. I'm Robert Griffin the third. I'm walking
- 1:17Speaker 4: up to you, and you say r G three?
- 1:20Speaker 2: What up?
- 1:21Speaker 4: Okay, it doesn't sound that bad. It doesn't sound that beat.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You can't put any words in front of the RG three. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: that's what it is. That's what it is. You just
- 1:28Speaker 1: have to say RG three. What's up?
- 1:30Speaker 4: Okayeah, yeah, you just gotta reverse it.
- 1:32Speaker 1: That makes sense.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Mister Griffin, come on, guys, we don't know him right well,
- 1:37Speaker 2: I mean.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Yeah, and then he sets up as mister Griffin is
- 1:40Speaker 4: my grandfather. I'm just call me Bobby, but never call him.
- 1:44Speaker 5: So we'll get to uh, we'll get to Robert Griffin
- 1:47Speaker 5: the third coming up here in just a few minutes.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Taylor was telling us before we started recording, something about
- 1:54Speaker 5: an Oregon quarterback coach. Listen, it's Friends and Family par
- 1:58Speaker 5: three at the Master's right now.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I ain't thinking about college football, and I'm certainly not thinking.
- 2:02Speaker 5: About an Oregon quarterback coach, but Taylor has decided to
- 2:06Speaker 5: tell us about it.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Nonetheless, go ahead, Taylor.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Well, the reason why he's making headlines today is because
- 2:13Speaker 3: he just got hired to be Oregon's quarterback coach. They
- 2:16Speaker 3: promoted him from within last season. Looked like he was
- 2:21Speaker 3: some kind of assistant assistant quarterback coach. Right now, it's
- 2:25Speaker 3: his job to lead the quarterback room because their previous coach,
- 2:28Speaker 3: Will Stein, who was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach,
- 2:31Speaker 3: took the Kentucky job. But listen to him when he
- 2:34Speaker 3: was asked, how do you identify your future quarterbacks?
- 2:38Speaker 7: I got asked him a question like this all the time. Hey,
- 2:40Speaker 7: do you like chocolate ice cream or vanilla ice cream?
- 2:41Speaker 6: Okay?
- 2:42Speaker 7: The minute the kid pauses, I don't really want that kid, right,
- 2:44Speaker 7: because you need to have some type of conviction right,
- 2:46Speaker 7: wrong or indifferent. Hey, so whether you like chocolate or
- 2:48Speaker 7: you like vanilla, I.
- 2:50Speaker 6: Don't really care.
- 2:51Speaker 7: But if you sit there and say a coach, I
- 2:52Speaker 7: don't know I want is it notlted, he's not.
- 2:54Speaker 6: What's the brand?
- 2:55Speaker 7: So on and so forth, Like what is this kid
- 2:57Speaker 7: going to do on third down in front of one
- 2:59Speaker 7: hundred and ten thousand. It's probably going to think about
- 3:01Speaker 7: it more than he should. He's not gonna have conviction.
- 3:08Speaker 4: I don't want anybody in my life, even if it
- 3:12Speaker 4: is my quarterback, having the type of stress on him
- 3:16Speaker 4: every time he has to make an ice cream decisions.
- 3:20Speaker 4: If I'm making decided between chocolate and vanilla, I want
- 3:23Speaker 4: the time to say Hey, let me think this thing through.
- 3:26Speaker 4: This is not a life or death situation as is,
- 3:29Speaker 4: you know when you're sitting back there in the pocket.
- 3:32Speaker 2: But isn't that the opposite of what you want? Like
- 3:35Speaker 2: if what throw are you going to go?
- 3:37Speaker 7: Well?
- 3:37Speaker 2: What defense are they in or are they? Are they
- 3:40Speaker 2: man or his own?
- 3:41Speaker 8: Like, I want him to assess all of the variable
- 3:43Speaker 8: options before making a decision, because when you make a
- 3:47Speaker 8: decision before the play happens, that's when you throw an interception.
- 3:51Speaker 5: I'm still confused by what it is, he said, So
- 3:54Speaker 5: I need to hear it again, play it one more time.
- 3:56Speaker 7: I got ask him a question like this all the time. Hey,
- 3:57Speaker 7: do you like chocolate ice cream or vanilla ice cream?
- 4:00Speaker 7: At a minute, the kid pauses. I don't really want
- 4:01Speaker 7: that kid, right, because you need to have some type
- 4:03Speaker 7: of conviction right, wrong or indifferent. So whether you like
- 4:06Speaker 7: chocolate or you like vanilla, I don't really care. But
- 4:09Speaker 7: if you sit there and say, ah, coach, I don't
- 4:10Speaker 7: know I want is it melted?
- 4:12Speaker 6: Is it not? What's the brand?
- 4:13Speaker 7: So on and so forth, Like what is this kid
- 4:15Speaker 7: going to do on third down in front of one
- 4:17Speaker 7: hundred and ten thousand. It's probably going to think about
- 4:18Speaker 7: it more than he should. He's not going to have conviction.
- 4:21Speaker 1: They should get Willie steinback.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I mean, this guy, I will say, is it melted?
- 4:28Speaker 4: Is it not questioned? Has nothing to do with the
- 4:30Speaker 4: flavor of ice cream. If somebody asked me that question,
- 4:33Speaker 4: I'm like.
- 4:34Speaker 6: How is that relevant?
- 4:35Speaker 4: It's the flavor that matters, right?
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 4:38Speaker 2: Two quick things about this one. Imagine you're the kid
- 4:42Speaker 2: and you get asked this question like there's a right
- 4:44Speaker 2: and wrong answer, and you're thinking to yourself, Oh my god,
- 4:47Speaker 2: is this like? Am I being judged by my taste buds?
- 4:51Speaker 2: Here is my future in the NFL in question? Because
- 4:55Speaker 2: I happen to like one over the other. And before
- 4:58Speaker 2: we start worrying about if this is the right Taylor,
- 5:01Speaker 2: has this guy found any quarterbacks? Like when he's assessing them? Well,
- 5:05Speaker 2: hold on, he ever done it?
- 5:06Speaker 1: Hold on a second. It seems like the only wrong
- 5:08Speaker 1: answer you can give is one that has a pause hesitation.
- 5:11Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yes, but the kid doesn't know that when he's asked.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It, right, but he should.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I mean, you know, so he's never been in charge
- 5:20Speaker 3: of just leading the quarterback room by himself, Mikey, But
- 5:23Speaker 3: this offseason they brought in Dylan Rayola from Nebraska, So
- 5:28Speaker 3: you're assuming that when Dylan Raiola was prompted with the question,
- 5:32Speaker 3: he had something prepared. Maybe he went chocolate, maybe he
- 5:34Speaker 3: went vanilla, maybe he went neapolitan. Whatever Dylan Riola went with,
- 5:39Speaker 3: he passed the test with flying colors. If Oregon decided
- 5:42Speaker 3: he was worthy, off the board, I mean, go off
- 5:44Speaker 3: the board. You can't, right, it's vanilla or chocolate.
- 5:47Speaker 5: But sometimes I'm in the mood for vanilla depending on
- 5:50Speaker 5: the day, and sometimes I'm in.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The mood for chocolate.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Dylan Rayola can't even decide if he wants to be
- 5:54Speaker 5: Dylan Rayola.
- 5:58Speaker 3: How do you guys feel about neapolo and ice cream?
- 6:00Speaker 3: It just seems weird that you wouldn't just buy one flavor,
- 6:03Speaker 3: and you're buying three flavors and they're kind of all
- 6:06Speaker 3: mixed together. If I get chocolate ice cream, I don't
- 6:08Speaker 3: want it touching the strawberry ice cream either.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Well, individually, if you pair them up individually, it's fine.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Chocolate strawberries, okay, right, Vanilla strawberries okay, it's not the.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Greatest strawberry is the problem for me?
- 6:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it just throws it off a little wow.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Strawberry is the winner for me.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Really, by itself, it's the winner, yep. But you can't
- 6:24Speaker 4: combine it with either. If you combine some vanilla and chocolate,
- 6:28Speaker 4: don't want I'm touching.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, vanilla chocolate is a good combination.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Chocolate strawberry, I think is a good combination. Vanilla strawberry.
- 6:37Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Dicey, I think is vanilla chocolate a good combination now
- 6:41Speaker 4: that I think about it, because all you're doing is
- 6:42Speaker 4: just softening up the chocolate, right, It's just less powerful chocolate.
- 6:45Speaker 4: It's not really a different flavor, and you don't really
- 6:48Speaker 4: taste the vanilla, right.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Make sure we ask RGI three all these questions and
- 6:52Speaker 5: the fact that we can't even agree on this, I'll
- 6:55Speaker 5: tell you right now, three flavors.
- 6:59Speaker 3: I'll tell you right now. The fact that we can't
- 7:01Speaker 3: even agree on what what ice creams go together, well,
- 7:03Speaker 3: none of us would ever play at orgon Well, we
- 7:06Speaker 3: are not worthy of Oregon football.
- 7:08Speaker 4: I thought you were going to say that, who the
- 7:10Speaker 4: heck put those flavored together and said no, no, forever,
- 7:14Speaker 4: for life, these three should be paired together.
- 7:19Speaker 2: You muted, Mikey, What was the one that was last
- 7:23Speaker 2: left out, Like, what was the one where they're like,
- 7:25Speaker 2: all right, we got to put three slashers in this box.
- 7:28Speaker 2: You know what? That was where I went, Yeah, maybe.
- 7:31Speaker 4: It had to be something green. Yeah, that's where I
- 7:33Speaker 4: was going.
- 7:34Speaker 1: How melted do you like your ice cream? To be?
- 7:36Speaker 5: God bless football everyone RG three in a couple of minutes.
- 7:39Speaker 5: How melted do you like your ice I like max
- 7:41Speaker 5: melt I do.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Really, it's more milkshake than ice cream. No, I'm the opposite.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I like to experience all sort of the levels of
- 7:49Speaker 4: the ice cream. So if there's one very great answer
- 7:54Speaker 4: to this, by the way, when it's hard, I bite.
- 7:56Speaker 4: When it's soft, I lick.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But what.
- 8:01Speaker 4: That's what it's been floating around online for baby, But no,
- 8:05Speaker 4: I like if you bite into or have like that
- 8:08Speaker 4: hard ice cream feel, and then you just go through
- 8:11Speaker 4: all the stages of it, it gets a little softer, and
- 8:13Speaker 4: then it becomes milkshake like, and then you finish it off, baby,
- 8:18Speaker 4: And so yeah, I do not like the pre melted
- 8:20Speaker 4: ice cream.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Did you just baby yourself?
- 8:22Speaker 2: Did?
- 8:22Speaker 4: I was waiting for one of you guys, but it
- 8:23Speaker 4: wasn't coming.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Baby.
- 8:25Speaker 5: I like it to melt. I like maximum melting. And
- 8:27Speaker 5: by the way, when you melt it, you cannot microwave
- 8:29Speaker 5: ice cream. You don't throw it in the microwave for
- 8:32Speaker 5: ten seconds. It has to naturally melt. That's what it
- 8:34Speaker 5: has to taste. But Taylor's agreeing with me. I think
- 8:37Speaker 5: he's agreed.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yes, I'm just still stuck on this quarterback
- 8:41Speaker 3: coach who has not coached a single game yet as
- 8:45Speaker 3: the quarterback coach. Yeah, and he's coming out here like
- 8:48Speaker 3: one of those self help guide books talking about how
- 8:52Speaker 3: he's so great at identifying quarterbacks. Yeah, get some first off,
- 8:57Speaker 3: whatever you do with more of the season doesn't count.
- 9:00Speaker 4: It's so you have to.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Get a recruit before it starts counting on your resume.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:04Speaker 4: It's so funny how complicated quarterbacking is. And this man's
- 9:08Speaker 4: got it down to chocolate or vanilla and that's it.
- 9:11Speaker 4: That's how I know my man is.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Gonna be a good quarterback.
- 9:14Speaker 5: But what are you saying about more? More can pause
- 9:17Speaker 5: when he's asked that question. He could say, whatever the
- 9:18Speaker 5: hell he wants, doesn't matter. And so if he has
- 9:21Speaker 5: a good season, and he will because he's one of
- 9:22Speaker 5: the best players in the country.
- 9:24Speaker 1: This guy gets no credit for it.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I don't think he doesn't get more because he didn't
- 9:29Speaker 2: recruit more. But I love the idea of him sitting
- 9:31Speaker 2: there asking questions with a stopwatch, like vanilla or chocolate.
- 9:37Speaker 1: DS. You're out, gotta cut him take one.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I need to sub one.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Since we're talking football here, Can I ask a microwave question?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Is it?
- 9:45Speaker 4: Sometimes it heats up your food and sometimes it just
- 9:48Speaker 4: heats up the plate, which then heats up your food.
- 9:50Speaker 4: But I can't figure out which is which, like whenever
- 9:53Speaker 4: I sometimes I'll put a white plate in there, and
- 9:55Speaker 4: I think maybe that's the difference. Is it the color
- 9:57Speaker 4: of the plate, Because sometimes I'll grab the plate and
- 10:00Speaker 4: it's on fire, but my food is freezing cold. I
- 10:02Speaker 4: sometimes I can grab the plate and my food is hot.
- 10:04Speaker 5: I think it's the material of the plate though, right,
- 10:07Speaker 5: like certain plates will burn in the microwaves?
- 10:09Speaker 1: Yes, who you.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Ask Chris Simms? Sims Simms has a whole dissertation on microwaves.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yes, I won't use them. He has conspiracy theories of microwaves.
- 10:20Speaker 1: He thinks they're killing us.
- 10:22Speaker 4: I mean, you smoke enough weed you could have conspiracy
- 10:24Speaker 4: theories on anything, and I do, and we do.
- 10:28Speaker 3: And technically everything could be killing us.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's the truth.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Somebody died from drinking.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Well, put it on the pole tel Technically can everything
- 10:39Speaker 5: be killing us? I'd like to kill the quarterback coach
- 10:44Speaker 5: for organ vanilla and chocolate. I mean, what a heart
- 10:49Speaker 5: the rare measurement of a pause.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Jim Rome would hate this guy.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Yeah, he loves his pauses, but Kelly would love him.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I think.
- 11:02Speaker 5: Seems like a dictatory Listen, he seems like a guy
- 11:05Speaker 5: I don't want to play for.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You said it?
- 11:07Speaker 4: Okay, what does an assistant quarterbacks coach actually do? I
- 11:12Speaker 4: didn't think you need an.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Assistant comes up with this kind of shit? Yes, and
- 11:16Speaker 1: then when he gets the job.
- 11:18Speaker 3: They're like a step up from like the equipment managers,
- 11:20Speaker 3: where they're they're helping you set up the drills and
- 11:22Speaker 3: everything kind of just doing all the work that the
- 11:25Speaker 3: position coach doesn't want to do.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Is the best day in an assistant position coaches life
- 11:31Speaker 2: When the position coach is homesick and he gets to
- 11:34Speaker 2: like take the reins for a day, Is that like
- 11:36Speaker 2: the best day of his life. You're gonna do this
- 11:38Speaker 2: a little differently today.
- 11:40Speaker 3: You've got position coaches taking sick dase.

- 13:49Speaker 4: We're joined now by Robert Griffin, the third. Robert will
- 13:53Speaker 4: have Stugotts with us in just a second. But just
- 13:56Speaker 4: wondering what you're doing with flag football now talk to me.
- 13:59Speaker 4: I'm a big flagfoot. I've actually got Taylor to join
- 14:02Speaker 4: us in my flag football league, But tell me what
- 14:04Speaker 4: you're doing with flag football currently.
- 14:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:06Speaker 9: So, you know, we got LA twenty twenty eight coming up,
- 14:10Speaker 9: and you know, I'm a big believer and if you
- 14:12Speaker 9: want something, you got to go for it.
- 14:13Speaker 6: You got to give all your effort towards that.
- 14:15Speaker 9: And you know, so this year, you know, I decided
- 14:18Speaker 9: to go to the trials to make Team USA and
- 14:23Speaker 9: it's not USA Flag, It's it's Team USA Football. They
- 14:27Speaker 9: had the trials in March. Really, anybody can go as
- 14:31Speaker 9: long as you enter through the digital combine. Everyone has
- 14:34Speaker 9: to go through the same process. There are no waivers
- 14:37Speaker 9: for you to get there because of your name, because
- 14:39Speaker 9: you're in the NFL or whatever it may be.
- 14:42Speaker 6: Everyone goes through the same process.
- 14:43Speaker 9: So I went out there was able to showcase that,
- 14:46Speaker 9: you know, I can still do the same thing and
- 14:50Speaker 9: got selected as one of the twelve to join the
- 14:53Speaker 9: twelve that were already on last year's team that played
- 14:55Speaker 9: at the Fanatics Football Classic and beat up on all
- 14:58Speaker 9: the NFL.
- 14:59Speaker 6: Players as you I saw in some celebrities.
- 15:02Speaker 9: So you know, just really embarking on that journey now,
- 15:05Speaker 9: going to training camp with them here next week, another
- 15:08Speaker 9: training camp in May, and then you know, looking to
- 15:11Speaker 9: make that team for twenty twenty six World Championships, which
- 15:14Speaker 9: just played in August. But I didn't want to wait
- 15:16Speaker 9: till twenty eight to try to start this process. I
- 15:18Speaker 9: wanted to do it now. I've already, you know, embedded
- 15:22Speaker 9: myself in the flag football community over the last few years,
- 15:25Speaker 9: so I know I know the game. But these guys
- 15:27Speaker 9: are They're special to what they do, and I'm just
- 15:29Speaker 9: trying to add to the greatness that they already have.
- 15:31Speaker 4: This is the head of the twenty twenty six International
- 15:32Speaker 4: Federation of American Football.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Right, that's sets, right, and you will go of Germany.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Right, what do you what do you do to prepare
- 15:40Speaker 4: for flag football? Is it any different?
- 15:42Speaker 6: Is it? Is it? Do you prepare much at all?
- 15:44Speaker 6: Because the skill sets just in you.
- 15:46Speaker 9: Nuh no, No, you got to respect the game and
- 15:48Speaker 9: you got to play it. I think some people have
- 15:50Speaker 9: used this this reference, I think in a disparaging way,
- 15:53Speaker 9: and I'm I'm not using it in a disparaging way.
- 15:56Speaker 9: There's tennis, right, and then there's also pickleball, There's also
- 16:00Speaker 9: ping pong.
- 16:01Speaker 6: Those are different disciplines.
- 16:03Speaker 9: Flag football is a different discipline. I think somebody said
- 16:07Speaker 9: they saw a clip of me at the trials and
- 16:09Speaker 9: they said, man, it looks like a basketball player going
- 16:12Speaker 9: to football tryouts because most of the guys are smaller, quicker,
- 16:17Speaker 9: shiftier guys. So for me, the biggest difference was the
- 16:21Speaker 9: rusher at seven yards unimpeded coming towards you means you
- 16:25Speaker 9: got to make decisions in almost less than two seconds.
- 16:28Speaker 9: And then the field it's twenty five yards wide for reference,
- 16:33Speaker 9: from the hash to the sideline in the NFL is
- 16:36Speaker 9: twenty three yards, so it's it's a very small field,
- 16:40Speaker 9: but it's fifty yards long, so the windows are tighter,
- 16:43Speaker 9: the decisions happen faster. And we did three days of
- 16:47Speaker 9: two days at these trials. I had done two days
- 16:50Speaker 9: since like high school, so it was it was a
- 16:54Speaker 9: journey and it was enjoyable. But by the third day
- 16:57Speaker 9: I adapted and was able to, you know, feel pretty
- 17:00Speaker 9: good about what we were able to go out there
- 17:01Speaker 9: and accomplish. So it was really a big up to
- 17:05Speaker 9: the guys that were there, The best five football players
- 17:07Speaker 9: in the world. Took me another wing, you know, allowed
- 17:10Speaker 9: me to showcase my skills and preparation wise is just
- 17:13Speaker 9: getting used to the visual and then allowing your skills
- 17:16Speaker 9: to take.
- 17:17Speaker 6: Over real quick. Is it five on five?
- 17:19Speaker 9: Yeah, it's five on five and it's and it's not
- 17:22Speaker 9: like traditional football, I would say in this in the
- 17:24Speaker 9: sense of like you only play quarterback. Like you saw
- 17:27Speaker 9: Jayden Daniels had a touchdown catch and the fanatics a
- 17:30Speaker 9: football classic, and you know, you can throw the ball
- 17:32Speaker 9: back and forth behind the line of scrimmage. So at
- 17:34Speaker 9: any given point, everyone on the field is a wide receiver.
- 17:37Speaker 9: So that also fits my skill set.
- 17:40Speaker 4: What is that like when you talk about your skill set? Like,
- 17:43Speaker 4: how different is that? Where you mentioned the immediate rush,
- 17:46Speaker 4: so you basically have two seconds and then it's everything
- 17:49Speaker 4: else has to be on the move, not just looking downfield,
- 17:52Speaker 4: but even potentially passing back to another quarterback.
- 17:55Speaker 9: Correct, it's it's it's decision making, you know, knowing that
- 17:59Speaker 9: when you pre sat two quarterbacks back there, if they
- 18:01Speaker 9: send two rushers, you know, what are you doing? Now
- 18:03Speaker 9: it's three on three out there in the open field.
- 18:06Speaker 9: If they don't send two rushers, you know, you see
- 18:07Speaker 9: a lot of the guys just throw the ball back
- 18:09Speaker 9: and forth to give their receivers time to get open.
- 18:12Speaker 9: So I think all those little nuances they take time,
- 18:15Speaker 9: you know, time on task. I studied for multiple months
- 18:18Speaker 9: before I even got to the trials, just trying to
- 18:20Speaker 9: adapt my my visual to what I was going to
- 18:23Speaker 9: be seeing. And then when I got there and in
- 18:25Speaker 9: my first play, the rusher was only like white on
- 18:27Speaker 9: rice and I'm like, god, dang, you know, and it's
- 18:29Speaker 9: it's it is the most important position you know on
- 18:32Speaker 9: the field in flight football. But I think, you know,
- 18:35Speaker 9: the next question is like, hey, can NFL guys make
- 18:37Speaker 9: this this transition into this discipline. Yeah, they can it
- 18:41Speaker 9: just it's gonna take time on task and you got
- 18:44Speaker 9: to respect the guys that have been doing it.
- 18:46Speaker 6: You mentioned IFAF.
- 18:47Speaker 9: Uh you know, team USA has won five straight IFAF
- 18:51Speaker 9: World Championships, So you know about me and my wife
- 18:54Speaker 9: were talking about like, hey, uh do they even need
- 18:57Speaker 9: anybody to come back? Like I I honestly think, you know,
- 19:02Speaker 9: if no NFL guys were to show up, right, I
- 19:04Speaker 9: wasn't to go out there, they would win the world Championships.
- 19:09Speaker 6: I believe they would win the Olympics.
- 19:11Speaker 9: I'm just so ambitious that I want to be a
- 19:14Speaker 9: part of that greatness with them, and that's what makes
- 19:17Speaker 9: it exciting for me. To kind of get back out
- 19:18Speaker 9: there and compete.
- 19:19Speaker 5: That fanatics game that you talked about. Did the NFL
- 19:22Speaker 5: player were they embarrassed? Did they stroll onto the field
- 19:25Speaker 5: expecting to beat that team?
- 19:30Speaker 9: I talked to the NFL guys. I was actually there.
- 19:33Speaker 9: I was there, you know, got to see it happening live.
- 19:36Speaker 9: It kind of played out the way that I thought
- 19:37Speaker 9: it would.
- 19:38Speaker 6: You know, the championship game was a lot closer.
- 19:40Speaker 9: They started to play more to the strategy of what
- 19:43Speaker 9: flag football is, and it's really about like you get
- 19:47Speaker 9: one or two stops, you won the game, and they
- 19:48Speaker 9: just couldn't stop Team USA. So to answer your questions,
- 19:52Speaker 9: Steve Gotts, yes, they were embarrassed. I don't think they
- 19:56Speaker 9: went out there thinking, man, we're about to molly wop
- 19:59Speaker 9: these guys. But but I know, talking to a few of them,
- 20:03Speaker 9: it was like, man, those guys were playing like their
- 20:05Speaker 9: lives depending on it.
- 20:06Speaker 6: And guess what they did.
- 20:09Speaker 9: You know, if you're if you're a coach and you
- 20:12Speaker 9: see Sean Payton and Kyle Shanahan over there and your
- 20:15Speaker 9: whole hate cascudo, you're trying to baptize them, like like
- 20:18Speaker 9: all those college coaches are trying to baptize Bill Belichick.
- 20:22Speaker 6: You know, Jill Burrow is playing like his life defended
- 20:25Speaker 6: on it.
- 20:25Speaker 9: He was because Joe was trying to Joe is trying
- 20:27Speaker 9: to show that he could he could play on the team.
- 20:30Speaker 9: And you know, I've got a good relationship with with Whosh.
- 20:34Speaker 9: Drell Ducett. He's from New Orleans, Louisiana. My family's from
- 20:36Speaker 9: New Orleans, Louisiana, five oh four, and he's the best
- 20:40Speaker 9: flag football player in the world. I'm not trying to
- 20:43Speaker 9: go take Drell Ducet's job. I just want to play
- 20:47Speaker 9: on the field with him.
- 20:48Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 20:49Speaker 9: Likes have some fun and play this in a in
- 20:53Speaker 9: a in a in a really fun way. And I've
- 20:54Speaker 9: had opportunities to play in celebrity flag football games with
- 20:57Speaker 9: Whosh and we've played well together. So it's like that
- 21:01Speaker 9: the goal isn't to go in there and take over.
- 21:03Speaker 9: Your goal is to go in there and be a
- 21:04Speaker 9: great teammate. And that's exactly the approach that I'm taking.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Arjie three.
- 21:08Speaker 3: It sounds like you're almost joining like a dynasty. Any
- 21:10Speaker 3: concern that if you join and they lose, people will
- 21:14Speaker 3: start to blame you.
- 21:15Speaker 9: Oh my goodness, listen, never it's not a dangerous game
- 21:18Speaker 9: because you know what's.
- 21:20Speaker 1: To blame you, Robert, I'm telling you right now, go ahead.
- 21:22Speaker 9: That would that would never happen, all right, that would
- 21:25Speaker 9: because because I'm I can be honest with you. You know,
- 21:27Speaker 9: you look at Calli Brownson, who really spearheaded the effort
- 21:31Speaker 9: to bring me in. You know, she is the senior
- 21:34Speaker 9: director of high performance there for USA Football, and they're
- 21:38Speaker 9: going to put the best twelve.
- 21:40Speaker 6: Guys on the team.
- 21:41Speaker 9: So like, if you come in and you can prove
- 21:43Speaker 9: that you're one of the best twelve, then then you'll
- 21:45Speaker 9: be on the squad. And like I said, when you
- 21:48Speaker 9: have these guys that have won so much and know
- 21:50Speaker 9: the nuances of the game, you you lean on that
- 21:53Speaker 9: these guys are not going to lose. I don't know
- 21:55Speaker 9: if you guys have watched any of the games that
- 21:58Speaker 9: Team USA has played. I'm and if you thought the
- 22:00Speaker 9: Fanatics Flight Football Classic was a was a blowout.
- 22:03Speaker 6: Wait wait till you watch some of those games.
- 22:06Speaker 9: And they and they and and to their credit, they
- 22:08Speaker 9: are not sitting on those laurels. They are they are
- 22:12Speaker 9: actively going out and trying to get the best players
- 22:15Speaker 9: to come out and play because they know the rest
- 22:17Speaker 9: of the world doesn't want to keep getting beat sixty
- 22:20Speaker 9: six to twenty.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Okay, it seems like a guaranteeing gold, Robert, That's what
- 22:26Speaker 5: it is.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Now.
- 22:27Speaker 6: See listen, this is this is why y'all are good
- 22:29Speaker 6: at what you do. You're trying to get some guarantees.
- 22:31Speaker 6: There's no guarantees in this thing. There's no there's no
- 22:35Speaker 6: guarantee of gold.
- 22:36Speaker 9: And I and like I said, it's almost like Larry
- 22:40Speaker 9: Bird trying to join the ninety six Bulls.
- 22:42Speaker 7: You know.
- 22:44Speaker 9: They're like they're like, hey, we're already a dynasty. What's
- 22:46Speaker 9: going on here? And You're just like, hey, man, I
- 22:48Speaker 9: just want to be a part of it with you guys,
- 22:50Speaker 9: and let's go have some fun.
- 22:51Speaker 1: It's like Kevin Durant joining the Warriors, right.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Yes, Oh that's a that's a more that's a more relevant.
- 22:56Speaker 9: I was more so looking at the age because I'm
- 22:58Speaker 9: thirty six, But you're right because Whosh is actually thirty
- 23:01Speaker 9: six as well. So these aren't twenty two year olds
- 23:04Speaker 9: out there balling out. These guys have dedicated their lives
- 23:08Speaker 9: to playing flag and done it at the highest level.
- 23:10Speaker 6: Robert I've got a guarantee for you.
- 23:12Speaker 4: You said you're not trying to go over and take
- 23:14Speaker 4: over for Hoosh right, my travel team, I guarantee you
- 23:18Speaker 4: the starting quarterback spot. So if you want to come
- 23:21Speaker 4: join me, maybe you don't get everything you want out
- 23:23Speaker 4: of that team USA situation. Come on down the South
- 23:26Speaker 4: Florida Waiver looking for you, hey man.
- 23:28Speaker 6: We would have some fun. And that's the beauty of flag.
- 23:31Speaker 9: There's always more than one quarterback on the field, So
- 23:34Speaker 9: it's different than what we think in traditional football, where
- 23:37Speaker 9: it's like, if Tom Brady's on your team, you're probably
- 23:39Speaker 9: not playing. But you saw Tom Brady and Jalen Hurts
- 23:42Speaker 9: are out there playing together. You know, Jayden Danis, Joe
- 23:44Speaker 9: Burrow playing out there together. So it's just a matter
- 23:47Speaker 9: of finding and find a way to fit in and
- 23:49Speaker 9: getting where you fit in. And that means playing other
- 23:51Speaker 9: positions as well, and that's something that I'm willing to
- 23:54Speaker 9: do well.
- 23:55Speaker 4: We play seven on seven with semi context, so you
- 23:57Speaker 4: have protection.
- 23:58Speaker 6: So you don't know, Okay, do you want to the Olympics?
- 24:02Speaker 6: I mean, do you wear the halo headbands and all that?
- 24:05Speaker 1: Some people do.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Hard three switch it off. Flag football for a second.
- 24:12Speaker 3: The Today's Show a couple of weeks ago did a
- 24:14Speaker 3: great feature on Jason Bennetti's inspiring journey with palsy. What
- 24:19Speaker 3: is your experience been like being paired with him in
- 24:21Speaker 3: the broadcast booth?
- 24:23Speaker 9: Well, you know, my my only gripe about Jason Bennetti
- 24:26Speaker 9: is that I didn't get another year with him. Okay,
- 24:29Speaker 9: I've told this to his face, and I put it
- 24:32Speaker 9: out on Twitter when it was announced that he was
- 24:34Speaker 9: potentially going to be you know, he was the leader
- 24:37Speaker 9: to get that NBC lead job for calling baseball. He
- 24:42Speaker 9: he just made me better. I don't know how else
- 24:44Speaker 9: to say it. I called games better than I ever
- 24:47Speaker 9: called them in our year last year together. There's there's
- 24:51Speaker 9: a difference between just being entertaining and being informative and entertaining,
- 24:56Speaker 9: and I think that's what Jason Bennetti does best. He's fun,
- 24:59Speaker 9: he he's willing to try new things. He's quick on
- 25:02Speaker 9: his feet. He does the cultural references, so when I
- 25:05Speaker 9: make a reference, he's not lost, you know.
- 25:08Speaker 6: So that to me was was was really cool to
- 25:11Speaker 6: be a part of.
- 25:13Speaker 9: I think at Fox were like, you know, we're sad
- 25:15Speaker 9: to see him go, but any anytime you have an
- 25:18Speaker 9: opportunity to be the lead guy like you gotta take it,
- 25:21Speaker 9: and I think he's earned that. So I'm thankful for
- 25:25Speaker 9: him in the year that we had together, and I'm
- 25:27Speaker 9: thankful and happy for him that he gets to to
- 25:30Speaker 9: go do what he does and loves most, which is
- 25:32Speaker 9: calling baseball.
- 25:34Speaker 1: R G three.
- 25:34Speaker 5: How do you feel because Taylor also plays flag football,
- 25:37Speaker 5: he plays on Israel's team, how do you feel about
- 25:40Speaker 5: a guy who lines up at wide receiver tells the dB, Hey,
- 25:43Speaker 5: I'm tired, I'm taking a couple of plays offs.
- 25:49Speaker 9: That's that's a guy that's gonna get beat sixty six
- 25:51Speaker 9: to zero. We are zher and two, So yeah, you can't.
- 25:58Speaker 9: You can't be telling now. Let's and we've all had
- 26:00Speaker 9: those guys in the past that'd be like, man, I'm
- 26:02Speaker 9: so tired, I don't know if I can make it
- 26:04Speaker 9: on this rep. And then they sprint full speed. Now,
- 26:07Speaker 9: if you do that, it's all good. But if you
- 26:09Speaker 9: actually go out there and jog the rep, man, you're conceding.
- 26:12Speaker 9: You can't concede in sports.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Robert I was I've fallen in love with Fernando Mendoz,
- 26:19Speaker 4: another Heisman guy, and I'm just curious though, because I
- 26:22Speaker 4: was at the gym and some people were comparing him
- 26:23Speaker 4: to the last five quarterbacks who have won the Heisman,
- 26:26Speaker 4: and I'm like, yeah, okay, maybe not the same exact
- 26:29Speaker 4: skill set. Will it still transfer translate in the pros?
- 26:32Speaker 4: What do you think about Fernando in particular and his
- 26:35Speaker 4: particular skill set translating?
- 26:37Speaker 9: No, I think Fernando's skill set starts with what's between
- 26:40Speaker 9: his ears, and I think he's had some adversity in
- 26:43Speaker 9: his college career, you know, being at Kyle, then going
- 26:47Speaker 9: to Indiana the literally the worst program in college football
- 26:50Speaker 9: D one history, most losses, and turning that bad boy
- 26:53Speaker 9: around they won a national championship.
- 26:55Speaker 6: So I actually I love Fernando.
- 26:58Speaker 9: I think he's a great fit for the Las Vegas
- 27:02Speaker 9: Raiders if they decide to go in that direction, which
- 27:04Speaker 9: I think they will.
- 27:06Speaker 6: I think there's this phrase that I hate.
- 27:08Speaker 9: I hate when people call let's just be real here,
- 27:12Speaker 9: white quarterbacks, When they call him sneaky athletic, I hate,
- 27:16Speaker 9: I just hate it. He's not sneaky athletic. Rana Mendoza
- 27:20Speaker 9: is athletic. He can run, is he Lamar Jackson? No,
- 27:23Speaker 9: he's not Lamar Jackson. But there's no one else that's
- 27:26Speaker 9: Lamar Jackson. And I was his teammate for three years,
- 27:28Speaker 9: and trust me, there's nobody that's going to be like
- 27:29Speaker 9: Lamar Jackson. So I think Fernando his willingness to run
- 27:34Speaker 9: when needed to move the chains, those are undervalued things.
- 27:38Speaker 9: And he has the arm strength and the one thing
- 27:39Speaker 9: I know he can do he can throw the vertical ball,
- 27:42Speaker 9: and in the NFL, that is something that wide receivers love,
- 27:46Speaker 9: coaches love, and he's gonna make the right decisions. So
- 27:49Speaker 9: the way he processes and take care of everything, Yeah,
- 27:52Speaker 9: he might have a bunch of games where he's twenty
- 27:53Speaker 9: for twenty seven for two hundred and fifty yards and
- 27:56Speaker 9: four touchdowns, and I'm okay with that, right and I
- 27:59Speaker 9: know that he's okay with that, And when they need
- 28:01Speaker 9: him to go forty for forty five or forty for
- 28:04Speaker 9: fifty two for four hundred, he can do that as well.
- 28:07Speaker 9: So I think his skill set translates because of the
- 28:10Speaker 9: way that he approaches the game and he has all
- 28:12Speaker 9: of the traits as they say, big arm, he's tall,
- 28:16Speaker 9: he's athletic enough that he can move the chains with
- 28:18Speaker 9: his legs. I think it's just a matter of the
- 28:20Speaker 9: Raiders just not messing it up. He looks like a
- 28:22Speaker 9: football nerd too. Yeah, yeah, I mean, and he's got
- 28:25Speaker 9: Brady there. You know, as an owner, that will.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Just be a nerd, not a football nerd.
- 28:31Speaker 6: That's kind of soft. That's the athletic. He's a football nerd.
- 28:37Speaker 2: But he's got Brady.
- 28:37Speaker 6: He's a faster Brady, you know.
- 28:39Speaker 9: And I know that's that's lofty and you say that,
- 28:41Speaker 9: but the way he processes and the way he approaches it,
- 28:44Speaker 9: that's how I envisioned Vanana Mendoza Robert.
- 28:47Speaker 5: When you look at college sports right now and il
- 28:50Speaker 5: all the money these kids are making, do you say
- 28:52Speaker 5: to yourself, a small part of yourself saying to yourself, Hey,
- 28:55Speaker 5: if I could have just been born a little bit later,
- 28:57Speaker 5: you know you would have cleaned house man.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Yep, yep, you know you're like.
- 29:04Speaker 9: Now, listen, I am very thankful and blessed, like my
- 29:08Speaker 9: family is taking.
- 29:09Speaker 6: Care for the rest of their lives.
- 29:11Speaker 9: I do this TV thing and do the social stuff
- 29:15Speaker 9: for fun. It's not because I have to keep the
- 29:18Speaker 9: lights on.
- 29:19Speaker 6: But day man, if it would have just been a
- 29:21Speaker 6: few years later.
- 29:22Speaker 9: Like just imagine you're the only Heisman Trophy winner at
- 29:26Speaker 9: a certain school and that certain school has such a
- 29:31Speaker 9: massive endowment, and you're talking about Bailey University. So I
- 29:35Speaker 9: just think that, yes, it would have been great to
- 29:37Speaker 9: be a few years later, they had the settlement and
- 29:39Speaker 9: I was like urging, you know, people like hey, can
- 29:42Speaker 9: they push the settlement back to like two thousand. They
- 29:46Speaker 9: pushed it to two thousand, and I got like seven
- 29:48Speaker 9: eight years of buffer there where I'm good.
- 29:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I said, they.
- 29:51Speaker 9: Went to twenty sixteen and still cut us all the
- 29:53Speaker 9: way out. So it is what it is.
- 29:55Speaker 5: We'll get you out here in a second. The last
- 29:57Speaker 5: time you bought a drink in Waco.
- 29:58Speaker 6: Texas, I bought a drink? I mean, yeah, never.
- 30:05Speaker 1: As it should be.
- 30:06Speaker 6: Yeah and listen.
- 30:07Speaker 9: And when I was in school, I got a free
- 30:09Speaker 9: pizza once, and people always ask me like, hey, did
- 30:12Speaker 9: you get paid to go to college?
- 30:13Speaker 6: And I'm like, I wish, like I wish I got
- 30:15Speaker 6: paid to go to college.
- 30:16Speaker 9: But I got a free pizza once, and it was
- 30:18Speaker 9: they were so strict there that compliance knocked on my
- 30:22Speaker 9: door the next day and made me pay for the
- 30:25Speaker 9: pizza that I got that was free so I haven't
- 30:28Speaker 9: paid for anything in wake going a really really long time,
- 30:30Speaker 9: and I'm just thankful for for Bili Nation for always
- 30:33Speaker 9: supporting me.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Is that your heisman trophy somewhere behind there? Is that?
- 30:37Speaker 6: Yeah? Yeah, that's the heisman. It it's just drink.
- 30:41Speaker 9: It's just recently moved here. It was with my parents
- 30:44Speaker 9: for ten years, so.
- 30:46Speaker 6: You know, it's not even enclosed in anything.
- 30:49Speaker 9: No, don't give the robbers and any ideas.
- 30:52Speaker 6: Okay, like this guy talking about.
- 30:58Speaker 5: We don't know what city here is with the parents
- 31:00Speaker 5: upset when you took it back.
- 31:02Speaker 6: No, no, no, they weren't upset at all.
- 31:04Speaker 9: You know, they moved as well, so it was like, hey,
- 31:06Speaker 9: they're moving, let's move the heisman in and uh and
- 31:10Speaker 9: just have it be stationary here. And now it's cool
- 31:12Speaker 9: because you know, I'm a girl dad afore, so you know,
- 31:15Speaker 9: our daughters walk by, but hey, daddy, what's that? And
- 31:17Speaker 9: then it's story time so you know, get to live
- 31:19Speaker 9: those old war stories and then have some good time
- 31:21Speaker 9: with the girls.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Right, the heisman gets its own box when when you move, right,
- 31:25Speaker 2: the heisman gets its own box.
- 31:27Speaker 9: I do have, yes, they the original box that they
- 31:30Speaker 9: sent it to us, with. I still have that box,
- 31:33Speaker 9: and it's it's pretty heavy duty. I mean that thinks.
- 31:35Speaker 9: Not only is it way a lot, but it's also
- 31:37Speaker 9: worth a lot. So got to have that special box
- 31:39Speaker 9: for it.
- 31:40Speaker 4: The briefcase in pulp fiction where you open it up
- 31:43Speaker 4: and it just starts glowing and singing at you time
- 31:45Speaker 4: you open it.
- 31:45Speaker 9: Yes, there's none of that, but it does look like
- 31:48Speaker 9: that that that box it does.
- 31:51Speaker 5: You're great, man. We wish you luck with this, we
- 31:53Speaker 5: really do. I have a proposal for you. If we
- 31:55Speaker 5: start a show we do a show called God Bless Football.
- 31:58Speaker 5: If we start a new show called God Bless flag Football,
- 32:02Speaker 5: would Robert Griffin the third like to co host.
- 32:04Speaker 1: It with me?
- 32:04Speaker 6: What do you think we'll make a Yeah, I mean.
- 32:09Speaker 1: All right, we'll start tomorrow. All right, Robert, thank you again.
- 32:17Speaker 5: Promote the team one more time here on the way
- 32:18Speaker 5: out and what you doing and trying out and all
- 32:20Speaker 5: that good stuff.
- 32:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 9: Man, So you're talking about USA football, the five time
- 32:25Speaker 9: reigning IFAF World champions.
- 32:27Speaker 6: They've won eight gold medals.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Uh.
- 32:29Speaker 9: This team doesn't need, in my opinion, a ton of help.
- 32:32Speaker 7: Uh.
- 32:33Speaker 9: But they blessed me by bringing me in throwing their
- 32:35Speaker 9: arms around me, teaching me the game and allow me
- 32:37Speaker 9: to have the opportunity this year to make the team
- 32:41Speaker 9: and go win a world championship in Germany. UH, and
- 32:43Speaker 9: then obviously set it up to where I have a
- 32:46Speaker 9: you know, a clear runway to make the twenty twenty
- 32:48Speaker 9: eight Olympic team. Which is which is the dream? All
- 32:51Speaker 9: these guys that work so hard for it. There's no
- 32:53Speaker 9: greater honor than wearing USA across your chest, UH and
- 32:56Speaker 9: being able to go listen to the Star Spangled banner
- 33:00Speaker 9: as they put that gold medal around your neck. So
- 33:03Speaker 9: anyone out there that has a dream, that that wants
- 33:05Speaker 9: to go and make their Olympic dream come true and
- 33:08Speaker 9: you want to play flag football, you can do it.
- 33:11Speaker 9: I'm gonna hopefully be able to inspire others to to
- 33:13Speaker 9: kind of go forward no matter how old you are.
- 33:15Speaker 9: Appreciate you, guys.
- 33:16Speaker 1: A gold medal and a Heisman trophy. That's pretty good.
- 33:19Speaker 6: Orchestra be the first, be the first, any great.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I doubt it would be the first. We appreciate it.
- 33:24Speaker 7: Man.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Good luck with all this. We'll get back to you
- 33:25Speaker 1: on the show.
- 33:26Speaker 6: Okay, all right, guys, God bless, peace out
- 33:29Speaker 1: God Bless he's already got it.
