- 0:55Speaker 3: sixty five weekend Holiday Game Day number two two five
- 0:58Speaker 3: nine two, five eighty five fifty two again always on
- 1:02Speaker 3: nine at Central Plumbing dot Org. Matthew, you asked the
- 1:08Speaker 3: quarterback question to Shay and it was actually, hey, look
- 1:11Speaker 3: at you, big jay journalism.
- 1:13Speaker 2: It's not a big deal, guys, because I was about
- 1:14Speaker 2: to ask him the same question and you stole my question.
- 1:16Speaker 3: That doesn't happen very often. You were gonna ask a
- 1:18Speaker 3: quarterback question. I was because you're a quarterback literally.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Right here in theory. So that's a good point.
- 1:27Speaker 3: So I was looking at the class, and we've talked
- 1:29Speaker 3: about it before, like this class for LSU doesn't have
- 1:32Speaker 3: a quarterback, and then like your quarterback situation obviously looks
- 1:37Speaker 3: pretty bare yep here at the moment, and Old Miss
- 1:40Speaker 3: did have one committed to them, So I didn't know
- 1:43Speaker 3: how much you know, Langiffin wanted that quarterback, if that
- 1:46Speaker 3: quarterback is going to flip from Ole Miss to LSU,
- 1:48Speaker 3: if you're going to try to get another one, So
- 1:51Speaker 3: you know, Shae Dixon didn't mention there's a South Carolina
- 1:54Speaker 3: commitment that they would be interested in adding, and so
- 1:59Speaker 3: I know you're I do not, Dworth. I do not
- 2:01Speaker 3: think your quarter Yes, I do not think that your
- 2:04Speaker 3: quarterback next year is on this roster right now.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I just don't think that's the case.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I think we could look at the track record of
- 2:10Speaker 3: of Elade Kiffin and he will better hope.
- 2:13Speaker 2: That it's not on the roster. I agree, I agree.
- 2:15Speaker 3: With you, and he uh, look, he'll bring in multiple
- 2:17Speaker 3: quarterbacks in the portal. He has certainly done that before.
- 2:20Speaker 3: But what are your thoughts on needing to get a
- 2:23Speaker 3: quarterback in this class.
- 2:25Speaker 4: I always think you need to get a quarterback. Now
- 2:28Speaker 4: I don't think it's as necessary as it once was.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Certainly with the transfer portal, Lane Kiffin has proven to
- 2:34Speaker 4: be a master.
- 2:34Speaker 3: What did what did Jay say? He found this turn
- 2:37Speaker 3: it out on Twitter? Yeah, well, I don't know the story.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Uh.
- 2:40Speaker 3: One of the coaches saw his highlights like on Twitter
- 2:43Speaker 3: and they were like, he was going to go somewhere
- 2:45Speaker 3: else at the FBS level. Gosh, I'm trying to remember
- 2:50Speaker 3: the story exactly how I went down. But then Ole
- 2:52Speaker 3: Miss saw him. They're like, no, no, he's coming Old
- 2:54Speaker 3: Miss actually right. Yeah, so he found them on Twitter.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So the quarterback for that Lane found and bratol Miss,
- 3:04Speaker 3: who's leading them into the playoffs, was the quarterback for
- 3:07Speaker 3: Farris State University of the year before. And I remember
- 3:09Speaker 3: when we played them looking up the stats and it
- 3:11Speaker 3: wasn't necessarily like the most impressive outlandish stats either.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 4: So it just kind of goes to show you what
- 3:17Speaker 4: this Lane Kiven offense has the potential to do. And
- 3:20Speaker 4: like Shaye mentioned, he's like, well do you think I
- 3:23Speaker 4: could I hit pretty good on him?
- 3:25Speaker 2: And multiple other people in the transfer portal before.
- 3:28Speaker 4: You don't think I can do it at LSU with
- 3:29Speaker 4: the resources and that logo and that those three letters
- 3:32Speaker 4: across the chest.
- 3:33Speaker 2: So we should all be excited.
- 3:34Speaker 4: So I think it's a really obvious statement that the
- 3:37Speaker 4: quarterback for next year is not on this. But as
- 3:39Speaker 4: far as picking or signing high school guys like you
- 3:44Speaker 4: always want, I think you always have to have a
- 3:46Speaker 4: comfortability with your quarterback room.
- 3:49Speaker 2: You have to have talent there.
- 3:50Speaker 4: You have to have young guys, you want all ages,
- 3:52Speaker 4: you want older guys, you want younger guys, you want
- 3:55Speaker 4: guys learning, you want guys teaching. That's kind of what
- 3:58Speaker 4: a healthy quarterback room is now in this world of
- 4:02Speaker 4: the nil Like, you don't always get that deep quarterback room,
- 4:05Speaker 4: especially at bigger schools, right because most guys that go
- 4:08Speaker 4: there are very highly touted, highly ranked, and if they're
- 4:11Speaker 4: not playing, they're gonna go seek other opportunities, which I
- 4:14Speaker 4: think everybody can understand that. Yeah, so you don't like
- 4:19Speaker 4: a lot of times, a lot of these big time
- 4:21Speaker 4: schools and blue blood schools are so dependent on their
- 4:24Speaker 4: starting quarterback being healthy because everything kind of revolves around that.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Because there's a bigger drop off at the quarterback position
- 4:30Speaker 4: than there is anywhere else on the football field. Right,
- 4:33Speaker 4: So it's important, at least from a talent perspective to
- 4:36Speaker 4: have young guys there, even if they're ready or not
- 4:38Speaker 4: ready to play. You can have them and taylor a
- 4:41Speaker 4: game plan around them if you need them in an emergency.
- 4:44Speaker 4: And then, of course, I mean in a perfect situation,
- 4:46Speaker 4: you groom a kid for a couple of years and
- 4:48Speaker 4: let him be the starter for a couple of years,
- 4:50Speaker 4: and then while he starts, he grooms another guy. Like
- 4:52Speaker 4: that's that's the ideal situation. And the more quarterbacks, especially
- 4:56Speaker 4: highly ranked quarterbacks, young quarterbacks, you get in there in
- 5:00Speaker 4: the room, the better chance you have on hitting. You're
- 5:02Speaker 4: not gonna hit on every single person, right, And a
- 5:05Speaker 4: guy might be better at a different college or a
- 5:08Speaker 4: different system than he is at our system.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Like, you just never really know how that's going to
- 5:12Speaker 2: play out. You're guessing a lot.
- 5:13Speaker 4: You're watching these kids play against other high school kids
- 5:16Speaker 4: that will never put pads on again.
- 5:18Speaker 6: You know.
- 5:18Speaker 4: It's it's one of these things that's so hard. It's
- 5:20Speaker 4: so hard to nationally rank, you know, recruits and all
- 5:24Speaker 4: this and that. So yeah, I think it's important to
- 5:27Speaker 4: have people. But with the tight turnaround, with this the
- 5:32Speaker 4: whole length thing, I'm not worried about the quarterback position.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I'm not going to say if we don't sign somebody,
- 5:37Speaker 4: I'm worried. I'm with you because it's just not because
- 5:42Speaker 4: of the transfer portal enough. This was five years ago. Yeah,
- 5:45Speaker 4: you're probably thinking a little bit differently.
- 5:46Speaker 3: But because of the portal, and because of who it
- 5:50Speaker 3: is in the portal and shout out to who I
- 5:53Speaker 3: knew it was a small school. I wanted to say,
- 5:55Speaker 3: Temple is so bad, and Hunt confirmed it it is Temple.
- 5:58Speaker 2: That it was Temple where Champus was going to.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Oh okay, so that that that Actually, that's another point
- 6:07Speaker 3: in the favor. I think of the evaluation because nobody
- 6:11Speaker 3: else saw it.
- 6:12Speaker 2: He was going to Temple yep, and they're like, hold up, no,
- 6:17Speaker 2: I think, actually we need him in Oxford, and you
- 6:20Speaker 2: go and.
- 6:20Speaker 3: You get that guy, so shout out. I appreciate that, Hunt,
- 6:23Speaker 3: But but I think because it's another faith though, like
- 6:26Speaker 3: they're gonna be able to find their quarterback.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:29Speaker 4: I think because of the lane element, I don't think it.
- 6:31Speaker 4: I think it releaves a lot of stress from that
- 6:34Speaker 4: that room. Now, are you gonna be able to go
- 6:36Speaker 4: find two or two quarterbacks? I don't think so. I
- 6:39Speaker 4: doubt it. Like I don't know why too coveted quarterbacks
- 6:43Speaker 4: would come at the same time. But I mean, what,
- 6:45Speaker 4: what was it a couple of years ago where he
- 6:47Speaker 4: got like three transferred quarterbacks to come to Old Miss.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, kid, that was that l Shua Howard. Yeah, Like
- 6:54Speaker 2: there was three guys. You got Sanders who was the
- 6:56Speaker 2: Oklahoma State starting quarterback.
- 6:57Speaker 4: That was the wildest situation, Like I just thought of
- 7:00Speaker 4: I thought about it again, like right the second, like
- 7:02Speaker 4: while we're talking, like they got three guys, and I'm like,
- 7:04Speaker 4: what is this guy's doing?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yep?
- 7:05Speaker 4: Why would they go there right now? Don't they see
- 7:08Speaker 4: everybody else going there as well? Yeah, it's a yeah,
- 7:13Speaker 4: it's not certainly not a big pressure point for me
- 7:16Speaker 4: if we don't sign, but I would like to sign somebody.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Now.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I know next year is a big class.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Yeah, certainly a big quarterback crop, especially here in Louisiana.
- 7:25Speaker 7: So quarterback just signed, but he signed as a corner.
- 7:29Speaker 7: Does Ellis is a quarterback but a lot of schools
- 7:33Speaker 7: were recruiting him as a quarterback, But.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Raymond.
- 7:38Speaker 7: He is the one that recruited him as a cornerback
- 7:40Speaker 7: to LSU. He threw for twighty nine yards last season
- 7:46Speaker 7: right thirty one touchdowns, seven interceptions.
- 7:49Speaker 4: If I give you a dollar, he's a corner. Yeah,
- 7:52Speaker 4: you can keep most of the change, Can you finish it?
- 7:58Speaker 4: All I really want is a quarter back.
- 8:01Speaker 7: No nothing, I'm not I'm not entertaining that.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Okay, what was that? Y'all never heard this?
- 8:09Speaker 4: If I give you a dollar, you can keep most
- 8:10Speaker 4: of the change, because all I really want is a
- 8:13Speaker 4: quarter back. It's a cheerleader champ guy going on there
- 8:19Speaker 4: in Tyler bro I don't know. I'm pretty sure most
- 8:21Speaker 4: people have heard that. I like, I was like waiting
- 8:24Speaker 4: for y'all to like either cut me off and say no, no, no,
- 8:27Speaker 4: or finish the sentence.
- 8:29Speaker 2: But you didn't do.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Hey, we were talking at at the break a little
- 8:31Speaker 4: bit trying to figure out like when to discuss this.
- 8:36Speaker 4: I figured right now it's a good time, since we're
- 8:38Speaker 4: talking about the crop of quarterbacks, and I'm gonna say
- 8:41Speaker 4: something that's probably like really ignorant and now uneducated from
- 8:46Speaker 4: the fact of like I don't know the system, but
- 8:50Speaker 4: I'm gonna look at this from like a thousand foot
- 8:52Speaker 4: view and look at it from a real common sense standpoint. Uh,
- 8:57Speaker 4: losing in high school football, I have to get something
- 9:01Speaker 4: figured out with scheduling. Now, I don't watch a lot
- 9:05Speaker 4: of the I don't go to a lot of the
- 9:06Speaker 4: high school games, but my children go to Dunham, and
- 9:11Speaker 4: so I go to the Dunham games. And like, we're
- 9:14Speaker 4: in a Louisiana's in a unique spot where for three
- 9:19Speaker 4: years you've known you'd have you've had a number one
- 9:22Speaker 4: recruit in the whole country in one particular class. That's
- 9:25Speaker 4: twenty twenty seven class, got Elijah Haven over a Dunham.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:30Speaker 4: You would think that despite what the rules are, and
- 9:33Speaker 4: I know, like you just can't change rules. I get it,
- 9:36Speaker 4: But I'm just looking at this from a common sense perspective.
- 9:39Speaker 4: You got if you're known for three years, you got
- 9:41Speaker 4: the number one kid in the country playing the premier
- 9:44Speaker 4: position in football, playing quarterback. You would think you would
- 9:47Speaker 4: want to highlight that almost every week in the form
- 9:51Speaker 4: of big matchups playing good teams. But what I see
- 9:57Speaker 4: going out there is I went out to a game
- 9:59Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago, and you got the number
- 10:01Speaker 4: one recruit and all of twenty twenty seven class in
- 10:03Speaker 4: the whole country.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Number one guy, top of the list, right.
- 10:08Speaker 4: And he's playing a team that shows up thirty minutes
- 10:11Speaker 4: late to the game. Yeah, they have nineteen kids dressed out.
- 10:14Speaker 4: They have about six people in the stands for their side,
- 10:18Speaker 4: And like I felt bad for the Like I felt
- 10:20Speaker 4: bad for the team just the resources and everything.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah, but like.
- 10:25Speaker 4: And I think a lot of the games, the majority
- 10:27Speaker 4: of the games that they're playing, it's kind of the
- 10:30Speaker 4: same thing. It's the same story and like where I
- 10:33Speaker 4: feel bad for the team that they're playing, Right, it's
- 10:35Speaker 4: a running clock after like you know, halfway through the
- 10:37Speaker 4: second quarter, it's like he threw you know, eighty yard
- 10:40Speaker 4: bubble screen touchdown was untouched. It was like like you know,
- 10:44Speaker 4: it's it's these things that you're doing like a disservice.
- 10:46Speaker 4: I feel like the Louisana football because like you want
- 10:48Speaker 4: premier matchups, right, you want them to be highlighted. You
- 10:51Speaker 4: want those to be like, hey, look at Louisiana football,
- 10:54Speaker 4: Like we're awesome.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yeah, right, and now we're kind of like and we are,
- 10:58Speaker 3: like like there's a lot of good I mean, uh,
- 11:00Speaker 3: Louisiana football is awesome. Why but why do you be
- 11:04Speaker 3: Carol told to come right his high school football, but
- 11:08Speaker 3: like we were getting clown like the arch Manning when
- 11:10Speaker 3: he was struggling. Is like, look who arch Maning is
- 11:12Speaker 3: playing against? And it would show like the weak teams
- 11:14Speaker 3: that Newman played against. And I'll back you up in
- 11:17Speaker 3: this point, like there was games this year where I
- 11:20Speaker 3: would go drive to watch my son play and it
- 11:23Speaker 3: would take me longer to get to the destination of
- 11:26Speaker 3: the game than he would actually be in the game.
- 11:28Speaker 3: It's forty three to nothing in the second quarter with
- 11:30Speaker 3: a running clock, right, and it's not I don't think
- 11:33Speaker 3: it's fair to either team. Yeah, right, and that they
- 11:37Speaker 3: and I know there's not like a one fix off
- 11:38Speaker 3: for this. Again, please just trust me what I say.
- 11:42Speaker 3: I don't like, I don't fall out. I don't know
- 11:45Speaker 3: the system enough to know if there is even possible.
- 11:46Speaker 3: But yeah, a common sense standpoint, it's not fair to
- 11:49Speaker 3: that team that has nineteen kids dressed out. It could
- 11:52Speaker 3: be down forty something nothing with eight minutes left in
- 11:55Speaker 3: the second quarter. Right, it is not fair to the
- 11:57Speaker 3: team that's blown them out, because that's not prepping you
- 11:59Speaker 3: for then you think that's helping Elijah get ready for
- 12:02Speaker 3: his first year at college football.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's not.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Like so you're taking your your best recruits and you're
- 12:10Speaker 4: not because of matchups discrepancies, like they're not prepping for
- 12:14Speaker 4: the next level as well as they should be or
- 12:16Speaker 4: could be either, right, I don't know. It was just
- 12:19Speaker 4: a frustrate It's a frustrating thing for me the last
- 12:21Speaker 4: couple of years watching because I'm watching this guy that
- 12:23Speaker 4: I like.
- 12:24Speaker 2: You should highlight this guy, right, you should.
- 12:27Speaker 4: He should be playing you high he should be playing
- 12:30Speaker 4: like they should be doing different things. And they play,
- 12:33Speaker 4: you know, they'll they'll have like one challenging matchup and
- 12:36Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'm just I'm preaching.
- 12:38Speaker 4: I'm just old man on the lawn here. I get
- 12:40Speaker 4: that I don't know what the fix is, Like I
- 12:42Speaker 4: don't even know how to follow all the systems and
- 12:44Speaker 4: classes and divisions and stuff.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I can't. I can't follow that.
- 12:47Speaker 3: You really can, I mean to your point, and like,
- 12:50Speaker 3: I don't know what the fix is either. But again,
- 12:54Speaker 3: like so I'll only know you high because I'm more
- 12:56Speaker 3: like you, Like I don't I don't follow a ton
- 12:58Speaker 3: but you know, they play Romo Catholic in Saint Paul's
- 13:01Speaker 3: in Woodlawn in the in the non.
- 13:02Speaker 2: District, and then you get the district. It's a little
- 13:04Speaker 2: bit different.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I mean, I would love to see you High and
- 13:10Speaker 3: park View and Dunham and Episcopal and Saint michael Is
- 13:13Speaker 3: like all in the same district.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Maybe, like that feels like that would be competitive.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Yeah, And and I know that there's classifications and there's
- 13:24Speaker 4: there's enrollment, and there's all things, and like the combination
- 13:29Speaker 4: of private and public and all that stuff. But man,
- 13:33Speaker 4: when I'm watching a game and it's running clock in
- 13:34Speaker 4: the second quarter, like, who who is.
- 13:37Speaker 2: That fair towards? Yeah?
- 13:39Speaker 4: Benefiting too? Who is that benefit it's benefiting? No, but
- 13:42Speaker 4: like either team, Like I felt bad for the other
- 13:44Speaker 4: team because because of the situation, and I felt, you know,
- 13:49Speaker 4: I felt bad for you know, just not getting the prep.
- 13:53Speaker 4: So I don't know, it's a it's a this is
- 13:56Speaker 4: a nonsensical frustration, I guess, or complaint because you know,
- 14:02Speaker 4: I doubt you can fix it. But from a common
- 14:05Speaker 4: sense standpoint, you know, for three years you got the
- 14:06Speaker 4: number one kid in a recruiting class in the country.
- 14:09Speaker 4: How often has that come around, Yeah, not very often. Like,
- 14:12Speaker 4: especially at the quarterback position, you would think you would
- 14:15Speaker 4: play some games that you know could get aired.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yeah, the whole station at least. Yeah, the whole deal's
- 14:22Speaker 2: screwed up. Yeah, I mean it just it is right.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And again I don't know what the fix is. But like,
- 14:28Speaker 2: because I think evangel play like they play five a right,
- 14:31Speaker 2: they're one a size, right, so you play up and
- 14:34Speaker 2: it's like it's a little bit here, a little bit there.
- 14:36Speaker 2: But some of these district matchups are rough, certainly in
- 14:40Speaker 2: the lower classifications. Some of them. It's like, I don't
- 14:44Speaker 2: think I've been to a good game.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I was very thankful for the Madison Prep game.
- 14:50Speaker 2: For you. I'm like, oh my god, a good team. Yes,
- 14:55Speaker 2: and it was a great game, two great games. I mean,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you have a Madison Prep. But yeah, I'm with you there.
- 14:59Speaker 2: It's like that doesn't really benefit anybody, all right, trying
- 15:02Speaker 2: to get.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Risk down beat Louisiana or Lafayette Christian this week, let's
- 15:05Speaker 4: go beat a little easy in the whole state, the
- 15:07Speaker 4: whole state.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Okay, all right, fair enough, all right, we will step
- 15:11Speaker 3: away more OTV. We've got Kim Mulk joining us in
- 15:13Speaker 3: about fifteen minutes from now. Stay locked in here and
- 15:16Speaker 3: we are coming to you live from the raiz of
- 15:18Speaker 3: Kine studio off the bench, all right.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Go to pelicanroof dot com, the website for Repelican Roofing
- 15:24Speaker 2: in Lafayette in Baton Rouge.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Boots on the ground in both locations. And I find
- 15:29Speaker 3: that important to let you know that because they're not
- 15:32Speaker 3: just an offst in Baton Rouge driving back and forth.
- 15:34Speaker 3: They're not just an officst in Lafayette driving back and forth.
- 15:37Speaker 3: They are there in those local communities helping you out.
- 15:40Speaker 3: You see right there on the homepage if you're watching
- 15:42Speaker 3: this on YouTube, those are all the five star reviews.
- 15:45Speaker 2: They don't try to hide anything.

- 16:52Speaker 3: always forget. Hey, just let you know it's good and
- 16:55Speaker 3: right here some good stuff inside these headphones.
- 16:58Speaker 6: I believe it.
- 16:58Speaker 7: It's a little too late.
- 17:00Speaker 2: It's okay, it's all right, all right.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Doctor Stephen Etheridge joins us as he does every single
- 17:05Speaker 3: week here on OTB Doc.
- 17:07Speaker 2: How we doing, how we live in house? Thanksgiving?
- 17:09Speaker 6: Good Thanksgiving? How about y'all?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Uh? It was good and it was good. I mean
- 17:12Speaker 2: I just like yous freezing in Oklahoma O part there.
- 17:17Speaker 4: We actually didn't even talk about Thanksgiving this week because
- 17:20Speaker 4: of the lane train. That's true, right, we skipped right
- 17:23Speaker 4: over like you know, giving reviews on the dressing and turkey.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I got a question.
- 17:29Speaker 3: When there's a new regime coming in, all right, every
- 17:32Speaker 3: coach likes to handle injuries a little bit different.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Uh yeah, right, wrong or in different in that aspect.
- 17:38Speaker 3: But when there's a new coaching staff, is that something
- 17:41Speaker 3: where y'all will kind of, hey, you know, here's the
- 17:44Speaker 3: team doctors, here's a you know, training staff, and here's
- 17:47Speaker 3: like how we've done things, and do they kind of
- 17:49Speaker 3: give you feedback and here's how I've always handled things.
- 17:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 9: Usually, you know, we'll we'll schedule some type of a meeting.
- 17:55Speaker 9: We'll get together and kind of at least have the
- 17:58Speaker 9: foundation said. And then from there, obviously you're gonna you're
- 18:01Speaker 9: gonna kind of have to feel it out. You know,
- 18:03Speaker 9: you're gonna kind of see, Okay, maybe we don't do
- 18:05Speaker 9: it this way for this person. Obviously the medicine doesn't change,
- 18:07Speaker 9: but but how we handle it, how we address it,
- 18:10Speaker 9: how do do we does the coach want it from
- 18:12Speaker 9: the head trainer? Does he want it for somebody else
- 18:13Speaker 9: to do it? There's a lot of different variabilities to that. So,
- 18:16Speaker 9: I mean, obviously, with the timing of this, there's a
- 18:18Speaker 9: lot of bigger priorities in the next several weeks. But
- 18:20Speaker 9: I'm sure at some point, once the dust is kind
- 18:22Speaker 9: of settled, we'll sit down and go.
- 18:23Speaker 6: Through all that. Have you been introduced yet, I'm not,
- 18:27Speaker 6: I'm not.
- 18:28Speaker 4: I mean I would assume that most people haven't because
- 18:30Speaker 4: it's been such a i mean, coming in two days
- 18:32Speaker 4: before signing day, trying to like talk to the current staff.
- 18:36Speaker 4: It's like, I'm sure most people in that building haven't
- 18:38Speaker 4: been able to have that type of media that you're
- 18:40Speaker 4: talking about, like, how do you want to you know,
- 18:42Speaker 4: how do you want your information? How do you want
- 18:44Speaker 4: how do you work? Can versus how do we work?
- 18:47Speaker 4: And let's let's figure this out together.
- 18:48Speaker 9: So yeah, I think I think obviously there's gonna be
- 18:51Speaker 9: a lot of that to come. But the timing of this,
- 18:53Speaker 9: there's so much that's happening right now, and I know
- 18:55Speaker 9: it's been a big topic just this morning, signing day,
- 18:56Speaker 9: everything else going on. It's it's not the main or
- 19:00Speaker 9: at the moment, but these things will happen, and I'm
- 19:01Speaker 9: sure there's a lot of people that will have those
- 19:03Speaker 9: moments down the road.
- 19:05Speaker 4: So it is National Signing Day, I guess it's national,
- 19:10Speaker 4: not early Sunaday anymore.
- 19:11Speaker 2: It's miss National Signing Day.
- 19:13Speaker 4: So a lot of news coming in, a lot of rumors,
- 19:15Speaker 4: but I wanted to know, Like, so when we go
- 19:18Speaker 4: to like in from college to the NFL, like of course,
- 19:21Speaker 4: and then NFL trades things like that, of course, there
- 19:23Speaker 4: has to be like doctor approval for these players. They
- 19:26Speaker 4: have to pass physicals, like they know this a history
- 19:29Speaker 4: background of certain players, and I know it can't be
- 19:33Speaker 4: as detailed when you're talking about high school. You don't
- 19:35Speaker 4: probably have the laundry list of injuries for these kids
- 19:37Speaker 4: because they just haven't played and experienced as much football.
- 19:41Speaker 4: But is there any physical like pre signing day physical
- 19:46Speaker 4: or any doctor approvals or opinions that you give for
- 19:52Speaker 4: recruits that are being recruited.
- 19:55Speaker 9: So it's definitely less than what you're gonna see obviously
- 19:57Speaker 9: in the NFL, like you said, there's a very rigid,
- 20:00Speaker 9: a legitimate process there. But these kids are coming from
- 20:02Speaker 9: all over the country, differ high schools, different settings. Some
- 20:05Speaker 9: of maybe had injuries when they were younger that we
- 20:06Speaker 9: might not even be aware of during during this phase
- 20:09Speaker 9: of the game. So in the high school environment, it's
- 20:11Speaker 9: it's mostly if there is something happens. If you know,
- 20:14Speaker 9: if you're recruiting a kid and we know about a
- 20:16Speaker 9: significant injury, sometimes the coaching staff will come to us
- 20:18Speaker 9: and say, hey, what do you think about this injury?
- 20:21Speaker 9: You know that there might even be an opportunity to
- 20:23Speaker 9: go through medical records and stuff if it's highly concerning,
- 20:25Speaker 9: which is something we occasionally will do. But for the
- 20:27Speaker 9: most part, you know, you kind of got to take
- 20:29Speaker 9: it as a leap of faith.
- 20:30Speaker 6: You know.
- 20:30Speaker 9: Really, the first time we get to see the kids
- 20:32Speaker 9: is when they're doing their physical coming in, you know,
- 20:34Speaker 9: and there might be the rare occasion where something's more
- 20:36Speaker 9: serious than what we thought. So it does happen, but
- 20:39Speaker 9: it's it's definitely very different from the coming to the
- 20:40Speaker 9: high school.
- 20:41Speaker 6: You know.
- 20:41Speaker 9: Even even the difference now with transfers is we're you know,
- 20:44Speaker 9: kind of defining and redefining that process where it's only
- 20:47Speaker 9: more of more of an NFL process where we kind
- 20:49Speaker 9: of know coming in it is a little bit more
- 20:51Speaker 9: involved in those kids where we have to they'll have
- 20:53Speaker 9: the sign off on them or not or say maybe's.
- 20:55Speaker 6: And right, But we have more information usually there.
- 20:58Speaker 4: And I guess for like Louisiana there's probably a lot
- 21:01Speaker 4: more information. I'm sure if like, if there's been an
- 21:02Speaker 4: injury for a Louisiana kid, that's probably a high likelihood
- 21:05Speaker 4: that you or somebody else from Brock it's probably like
- 21:07Speaker 4: worked on them. But like, yeah, if you got a
- 21:08Speaker 4: guy from California or somewhere, it's a that's a blind
- 21:11Speaker 4: leap of faith.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:13Speaker 9: And even with the Louisiana kids, you know, if I
- 21:15Speaker 9: see them, you know there there's some some cross over
- 21:17Speaker 9: there with hip and stuff. So unless the kid tells
- 21:19Speaker 9: me I can talk to coach about his injury, I
- 21:21Speaker 9: technically can't because there's stop they're not part of our
- 21:23Speaker 9: team yet. So even there, there's a little bit of
- 21:25Speaker 9: a it's not always, you know, super easy, but but
- 21:28Speaker 9: usually we would know a little bit more just because
- 21:30Speaker 9: the network here and more were connected. But even then,
- 21:32Speaker 9: it's it's a little hard.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Sometimes when in the NFL and you're getting traded or something,
- 21:40Speaker 4: you have to pass a physical life. So you just
- 21:42Speaker 4: talked about the hipp of rules, you can't really discuss
- 21:44Speaker 4: with the coach and injury. But is it a different
- 21:47Speaker 4: rule when the team doctor, if someone performs like a
- 21:53Speaker 4: physical is that is.
- 21:55Speaker 2: That it is? What's that rule? So you once you.
- 21:58Speaker 9: Come in, you know, then some of these medical things
- 22:01Speaker 9: kind of just like with the NFL, the team is
- 22:03Speaker 9: a part of your team essentially at that point. So
- 22:06Speaker 9: there are still some areas we don't cross lines, you know,
- 22:08Speaker 9: for example, mental health if it's something we don't discuss
- 22:11Speaker 9: the pages unless there's truly a danger to the player.
- 22:14Speaker 9: There are some areas, but when you come in, that's
- 22:16Speaker 9: part of what some of the paperwork y'all sign when
- 22:18Speaker 9: you first get here, is you're going to be signing
- 22:19Speaker 9: paper that says, hey, this is part of the process, right,
- 22:22Speaker 9: they're going to be allowed to understanding the medical So
- 22:25Speaker 9: so in that scenario it does change. But until then, yeah,
- 22:28Speaker 9: we're you know, the athletes are protected completely privacy.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Rots, all right, So we want to get to one
- 22:33Speaker 3: of the injuries that was talked about over the last
- 22:36Speaker 3: couple of weeks and well, no pun intended there. It
- 22:41Speaker 3: is went weeks in in you know, we've had conversations
- 22:44Speaker 3: with him and so we're good to have this conversation.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I know it was reported that he had a bone
- 22:49Speaker 3: bruise and then it came out it was more severe
- 22:51Speaker 3: than that, But in actuality, the bone bruise is closer
- 22:56Speaker 3: to what actually it was. It just sounds like you
- 22:58Speaker 3: hear brus you're like, oh, it just got a you know,
- 23:01Speaker 3: black and blue spot on my ankle, when in fact,
- 23:03Speaker 3: like there's a lot that kind of goes into it.
- 23:05Speaker 9: Yeah, So sometimes the difference between a bone bruise and
- 23:08Speaker 9: a fracture is really not that large. I think to
- 23:10Speaker 9: your point, if you hear bone bruise, I think all
- 23:12Speaker 9: of us would assume with bone bruis that that, oh,
- 23:16Speaker 9: that's not that big.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Of a deal, right. It's just you hear a bruise, like, oh,
- 23:19Speaker 2: I hit my hip on the corner of this desk.
- 23:21Speaker 2: That's why there's a little rubber thing there. Now it's
- 23:23Speaker 2: like I got a bruise from it.
- 23:24Speaker 6: Yeah, But exactly, that's a lot of times you say it.
- 23:27Speaker 9: It doesn't sound like a big deal, But if you
- 23:29Speaker 9: think about it, the impact and force required to damage
- 23:31Speaker 9: bone in which a bone bruise is damage to bone,
- 23:34Speaker 9: it's got to be fairly significant, and it's not that
- 23:37Speaker 9: different than what the impact or or force required to
- 23:40Speaker 9: break a bone is sometimes and sometimes the line between
- 23:43Speaker 9: one and the other can be very very thin, and
- 23:46Speaker 9: that can be very blurred. If you get a different
- 23:50Speaker 9: radiologist reading an MRI on ten readings of the same patient,
- 23:54Speaker 9: half of them might say as a bone contusion, to the
- 23:55Speaker 9: other half might say it's what's called an impact fracture
- 23:58Speaker 9: or some different variation of that. And that's kind of
- 24:00Speaker 9: where this injury was, you know, And it's something that,
- 24:02Speaker 9: like you said, we talked to it and he's already
- 24:04Speaker 9: talked about the injury and giving clearance to talk about
- 24:06Speaker 9: all this, so normally we can't. But but that's what
- 24:09Speaker 9: happened with his injuries. He had an injury that his
- 24:11Speaker 9: ankle got rolled up on, it got kind of massed back,
- 24:14Speaker 9: and in that scenario, the bone and the talis, which
- 24:17Speaker 9: is the part of the ankle that's in the foot,
- 24:19Speaker 9: it got literally compressed upon itself. And in an X
- 24:23Speaker 9: ray you don't see a bone contusion or sometimes these
- 24:25Speaker 9: impact fractures. Then you get an MRI and you say, well, look,
- 24:28Speaker 9: there's definitely a regularity there and and it's a fine
- 24:30Speaker 9: line between the two, but they're both significant injuries.
- 24:33Speaker 3: That was tough for me because it kept being called
- 24:35Speaker 3: a bone bruise and like, and I didn't know until
- 24:37Speaker 3: you explain that to me, Like I didn't know, and
- 24:39Speaker 3: I'm like, man, I hope you don't like if you
- 24:41Speaker 3: know wed weeks, you know, like a bruise like air
- 24:43Speaker 3: quote bruise is not keeping him out, like and I
- 24:46Speaker 3: knew what it was, but obviously, like out of respect
- 24:48Speaker 3: to win, and because what you can't say, he can't say.
- 24:50Speaker 2: It's like I'm not going to put that out there.
- 24:52Speaker 3: But it's like now that people realize, like what it was,
- 24:54Speaker 3: like you just said that, and I kind of like, ugh,
- 24:56Speaker 3: like it was a serious injury. And that's why you
- 24:58Speaker 3: saw he was in a boot if he wasn't, if
- 25:01Speaker 3: he wasn't in the shower. Basically, I think I saw
- 25:03Speaker 3: it like he's got a boot on.
- 25:04Speaker 9: Oh, everywhere he was going, he's wearing that thing. And and
- 25:06Speaker 9: look he's a you know we know it, A tough kid.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah, tough kid.
- 25:09Speaker 9: Get plays with this hard. He would he would probably
- 25:12Speaker 9: play with it with half a leg if you let him.
- 25:14Speaker 9: But but those injuries, they are tough, and especially when
- 25:16Speaker 9: it's in your ankle, it's in your foot, it's you're
- 25:18Speaker 9: pushing off of it, you're planning on it uh to do,
- 25:20Speaker 9: so you know it's it's it's a. Typically these are
- 25:22Speaker 9: gonna be structurally sound injuries, but they are injuries that
- 25:24Speaker 9: sometimes just you literally can't move your foot or ankle
- 25:26Speaker 9: in that scenario. So so it's something that you know
- 25:29Speaker 9: it's it's it's a.
- 25:30Speaker 6: It's a real injury.
- 25:31Speaker 9: And and sometimes people hear that bone bruised, bone contusion
- 25:34Speaker 9: and kind of like the turf toe talks we've had,
- 25:35Speaker 9: doesn't sound that tough, it doesn't sound that bad. And
- 25:38Speaker 9: I'll be honest, sometimes the bone contusions hurt more than
- 25:40Speaker 9: if you just snap the bone because they're just the.
- 25:42Speaker 6: Whole bone isn't played in that area.
- 25:44Speaker 9: It's kind of like, you know, if you walk with
- 25:45Speaker 9: a bruise in the bottom of your foot, every step hurts.
- 25:47Speaker 6: It's kind of the same idea.
- 25:48Speaker 4: So this is gonna be really, like from a medical standpoint,
- 25:52Speaker 4: like a really dumb question probably and like anybody that's
- 25:54Speaker 4: a doctor out there is probably just gonna be shaking
- 25:56Speaker 4: their head of me. But you talk about a bone bruise, okay,
- 26:00Speaker 4: So I'm just thinking about like a standard bruise on
- 26:02Speaker 4: your body it becomes discolored purple whatever that looks like.
- 26:06Speaker 4: And a lot of that color is from like blood
- 26:08Speaker 4: flow coming to it, right, like grrect me if I'm wrong,
- 26:11Speaker 4: Like a bone doesn't have like blood flow through the belt.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Like what is it if you were to look at
- 26:15Speaker 4: a bone with a bruise on it, Like, what does
- 26:18Speaker 4: it look like?
- 26:18Speaker 2: Is it like a soft spot on the bone?
- 26:20Speaker 4: Like is it a red and a flat Like what
- 26:22Speaker 4: would it look like from if you just looked at
- 26:24Speaker 4: the bone on a bone bruise?
- 26:26Speaker 6: Well, so one bone actually does.
- 26:28Speaker 9: There is a lot of small micro vessels that go
- 26:30Speaker 9: through the cap, so sure that's how it gets nutrients.
- 26:31Speaker 6: That's so the bones.
- 26:33Speaker 9: So when you when you get a bone bruise, it
- 26:35Speaker 9: is kind of like a bruise anywhere else where there
- 26:36Speaker 9: is gonna usually be a little bit of bleeding inflammation
- 26:38Speaker 9: within the bone. You know, if you if you were
- 26:40Speaker 9: to look at the bone, you might not be able
- 26:42Speaker 9: to see it. That's why on an X ray and
- 26:43Speaker 9: XT ray looks great usually on a bone contusion a
- 26:45Speaker 9: bone bruise, But then you get the MRI right, and
- 26:47Speaker 9: the MRI is really where you'll see the difference. You
- 26:49Speaker 9: know what we described as bony edema. It's when there
- 26:52Speaker 9: is inflammation or fluid within the bone and that area
- 26:54Speaker 9: can sometimes become weakened. In fact, if you ever hear
- 26:56Speaker 9: about a stress fracture, that's kind of what a stress
- 26:59Speaker 9: fracture is. It's an area bone that through repetitive stress,
- 27:02Speaker 9: got weakened and inflamed and then eventually cracked. So that
- 27:06Speaker 9: area does get weak, but but on on a evaluation,
- 27:09Speaker 9: the bone itself might look fairly normal. Again if you
- 27:11Speaker 9: get the X ray, it's not going to be deformed
- 27:13Speaker 9: or shifted or moved or cracked until it does it.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Yes, O, man, that's it's a lot of words that
- 27:21Speaker 2: I don't understand, but I'm glad we got doc here.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Guess what blood vessels in her bones that till today.
- 27:26Speaker 4: That's a great and that's a great job explaining the
- 27:29Speaker 4: whitweek's injury because like even I like when I heard
- 27:31Speaker 4: it initial, I'm like, I know that guy, but it's like, no,
- 27:34Speaker 4: it's actually closer uh to what it actually is.
- 27:37Speaker 2: It's just you hear bruise and you think something different there.
- 27:39Speaker 2: So it's good to see him out there last week.
- 27:41Speaker 2: For sure. He gives a little bit different juice to.
- 27:43Speaker 6: The defense percent.
- 27:45Speaker 9: I'll tell you, you know, one of the things from our side,
- 27:47Speaker 9: you know, any of us that work in the medical
- 27:48Speaker 9: side of sports, that absolutely drives me crazy is when
- 27:51Speaker 9: people talk about somebody and you know the truth and
- 27:53Speaker 9: I want to yell it from the top of the mountain.
- 27:56Speaker 6: Do you understand why the same way? Yeah. I remember
- 27:58Speaker 6: my first year.
- 27:58Speaker 9: On staff and we had one of our tackles who
- 28:01Speaker 9: had to play with the calf strain, had a pretty
- 28:04Speaker 9: bad calf injury, right, and he was our only option
- 28:07Speaker 9: though it was one of these weeks yea, and the
- 28:08Speaker 9: guy had to go when we were go go to Auburn.
- 28:10Speaker 9: I don't remember who their defensive been was then, but
- 28:11Speaker 9: he was one of these guys, first round prospect, And
- 28:14Speaker 9: of course the tackle is getting murdered the next next week,
- 28:16Speaker 9: and I was like, he played a heck of a
- 28:17Speaker 9: game and a guy playing on one leg, And but
- 28:20Speaker 9: I couldn't.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Say, listen.
- 28:21Speaker 9: I was listening to the Raiders and I would to
- 28:22Speaker 9: call in so bad and be like, listen, y'all, this
- 28:24Speaker 9: is this kid, and that happens every week.
- 28:26Speaker 6: You know that, you know there's more to it, right,
- 28:29Speaker 6: you know?
- 28:29Speaker 9: And it's it's it's something that we wish we could
- 28:31Speaker 9: talk about, but most times we can't. We respect the privacy,
- 28:35Speaker 9: but sometimes it is frustrated.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Doctors man great explanation of what was going on.

- 30:58Speaker 3: interview of the week. LSU had basketball coach Kim Mulkey
- 31:01Speaker 3: joins us. Now, Coach, we appreciate the time as always.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Hopefully you had a good Thanksgiving and some good time
- 31:07Speaker 3: down there, some good sun rays down you know, Saint
- 31:11Speaker 3: Thomas there now back home.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Glad to have you on as always, Coach.
- 31:18Speaker 5: You can't buy this morning. I cannot be the best
- 31:21Speaker 5: interview of the week. If y'all haven't gotten Lane Kiffing,
- 31:23Speaker 5: then y'all need to come to my house and we
- 31:25Speaker 5: need to go find himose.
- 31:28Speaker 3: No, coach, Coach, we've been telling you this for years,
- 31:31Speaker 3: like you are a favorite interview of the week, and
- 31:34Speaker 3: we're just glad that we get a chance to talk
- 31:36Speaker 3: to you every week. So you know we'll get Lane eventually,
- 31:39Speaker 3: but we know we get the best every single Wednesday.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Well, what you get with old Maulkie, what you see
- 31:46Speaker 5: is what you get. And we have fun and talk
- 31:49Speaker 5: a little football every now and then, talk a little
- 31:51Speaker 5: family over now and then, and oh yeah, that's coach
- 31:55Speaker 5: basketball ever now and then we talk about it.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Coach. I mean, it has been a crazy kind of
- 32:03Speaker 2: circus around the athletic department because anytime you know this coach,
- 32:06Speaker 2: you're looking for a football coach, and you know this rumor,
- 32:09Speaker 2: that rumor, and everybody thinks that you've got the source
- 32:12Speaker 2: and they've got the story.
- 32:13Speaker 3: And then when it finally happens, like everything just kind
- 32:16Speaker 3: of explodes and it's like the big, big news story.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Then you had the big press conference and you know
- 32:20Speaker 2: this coach. You've been through a lot of these.
- 32:22Speaker 3: It's always something that's a little crazy when you're hiring
- 32:25Speaker 3: a football coach.
- 32:27Speaker 5: Well, it is crazy, but it's even crazier at LSU.
- 32:30Speaker 6: So here's my.
- 32:31Speaker 5: Question to y'all. Okay, I wake up and I read stuff.
- 32:35Speaker 5: They didn't want Lane Kiffin to coach them through the playoffs,
- 32:39Speaker 5: but they'll take the offensive coordinator who's coming to LSU,
- 32:43Speaker 5: And oh yeah, you better come back over here because
- 32:46Speaker 5: we don't really know what we're doing offensively because we
- 32:48Speaker 5: hired a defensive coordinator. So I guess my question is,
- 32:53Speaker 5: what's the difference. Don't you think whatever you thought Lane
- 32:56Speaker 5: was gonna do to take players and the portal wife
- 33:00Speaker 5: can do the same thing.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Yeah, coach, when I saw you, I was supposed to
- 33:03Speaker 2: ask those questions. I know, I know when I saw that,
- 33:05Speaker 2: I was thinking the same thing. I'm like, did you
- 33:07Speaker 2: all maybe like get together?
- 33:08Speaker 3: And you're like, uh and and Matt said this this morning,
- 33:11Speaker 3: like maybe the tight end coach doesn't need to call
- 33:13Speaker 3: plays in the playoff. Maybe we need to see if
- 33:15Speaker 3: we can get somebody from the uh you know, the
- 33:18Speaker 3: staff that left to go to l s U. So, yeah,
- 33:20Speaker 3: that was because they were completely against Lane coaching the team.
- 33:23Speaker 3: It was kind of a complete reversal of what we,
- 33:27Speaker 3: you know, heard that to do.
- 33:29Speaker 5: It's what's the difference because he's the head coach and
- 33:33Speaker 5: versus the offensive coordinator. I don't understand it. I'm like, so,
- 33:39Speaker 5: is LSU gonna pay White?
- 33:42Speaker 2: Oh?
- 33:43Speaker 5: Miss gonna pay his bonus?
- 33:45Speaker 3: You know?
- 33:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm such a great question.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I think it.
- 33:49Speaker 5: I think it was nice of Lane to let him go.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Back there do that. I read where he was trying
- 33:55Speaker 5: to make sure they didn't penalize them and give them
- 33:58Speaker 5: a lower seed. But that just cracked me up. I'm like,
- 34:02Speaker 5: what is the difference.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I know his treason was a little bit less egregious.
- 34:06Speaker 3: I guess, I guess, I guess, And I mean there's
- 34:11Speaker 3: been so much talk about the calendar, and I don't
- 34:13Speaker 3: know if you saw this, but it was actually a
- 34:15Speaker 3: Rick Patino put out something on social media. He's like, man,
- 34:18Speaker 3: football's got to kind of get this fixed, because this
- 34:21Speaker 3: is like if we were in the same calendar in basketball,
- 34:23Speaker 3: it would be like our team getting the one seed
- 34:26Speaker 3: in March and then right before March madness because of
- 34:29Speaker 3: the calendar, you have to leave to go take another job,
- 34:32Speaker 3: if that job is you know, for you a better situation,
- 34:36Speaker 3: and you do it right before the NCAA tournament. And
- 34:38Speaker 3: like when I saw it, coach laid out like that,
- 34:40Speaker 3: I'm like, man, that's even more egregious than I thought.
- 34:43Speaker 5: You know, I did see Patino's quote, and I will
- 34:46Speaker 5: say it's broken. I think it's broken in college football
- 34:51Speaker 5: on a lot of things. The NCAA could change the transfers,
- 34:55Speaker 5: windows and all that, but the calendar made it tough.
- 35:00Speaker 5: Old Miss made it tough. Ole Miss is the one
- 35:02Speaker 5: that put the you know, line in the sand and said,
- 35:05Speaker 5: give us an answer. Think about this. If Lane had
- 35:09Speaker 5: gone through the whole college football playoffs and then took
- 35:15Speaker 5: the job, or then we fired Brian Kelly at the
- 35:18Speaker 5: last minute, we wouldn't be talking about this. But because
- 35:20Speaker 5: of rumor, because of you know, coaches being able to
- 35:24Speaker 5: be talked to and fly their families different places, people
- 35:28Speaker 5: get real anxious and that's what happened. And it's sad
- 35:32Speaker 5: for the players. But you know, I think he had
- 35:36Speaker 5: to make a decision that he didn't want to make
- 35:38Speaker 5: at that time.
- 35:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think that was pretty clear too,
- 35:42Speaker 4: especially with his remarks at the press conference. You could
- 35:44Speaker 4: see that there was there was true you know, there's
- 35:46Speaker 4: true feelings and yeah, a little bit of sadness and
- 35:50Speaker 4: excitement from both directions from I thought it was very genuine.
- 35:53Speaker 4: But uh, you've been through this, you have you have
- 35:55Speaker 4: made a move, You've been one of the most talked
- 35:57Speaker 4: about coaches and made a move to LSU. So what
- 36:02Speaker 4: piece of advice would you give Lane? Coming in as
- 36:05Speaker 4: a highly touted coach, of course, the all the headlines,
- 36:09Speaker 4: but coming into this school, specifically.
- 36:11Speaker 5: At LSU, you better win. They love you today and
- 36:16Speaker 5: they'll fire you tomorrow. I think expectations at LSU are
- 36:21Speaker 5: what they are, and sometimes I don't think that they're
- 36:24Speaker 5: fair because I think it's such a big enterprise and
- 36:32Speaker 5: you better win. And if you don't, I'm telling you
- 36:36Speaker 5: all those welcoming hugs, handshake, they will forget about you.
- 36:42Speaker 5: But he knows that. Think of his history. I mean,
- 36:45Speaker 5: he was fired on the tarmac of an airport. You know.
- 36:49Speaker 5: Lane has withstood a lot of criticism from what I've read.
- 36:54Speaker 5: I don't know Lane. I've never met Lane. I can
- 36:58Speaker 5: tell you one thing I do like about his family.
- 37:03Speaker 5: His brother Chris, might be the smartest one in the family.
- 37:06Speaker 5: He married a former women's basketball player and coach, so
- 37:12Speaker 5: his wife was a great player. I think her last
- 37:15Speaker 5: name was Timmins, and she played it Creton back in
- 37:19Speaker 5: the day for Connie Yory. And then they went to
- 37:22Speaker 5: Nebraska and she was on Connie Yory's staff in Nebraska,
- 37:26Speaker 5: and I bet that's where she met Chris because he
- 37:29Speaker 5: was a coach there at the time. So I want
- 37:32Speaker 5: to meet that family, because heck, she might can bring
- 37:35Speaker 5: something to the table for.
- 37:36Speaker 2: My program, no doubt about it.
- 37:40Speaker 3: And Coach, I was thinking about you whenever Laine decided
- 37:43Speaker 3: to take the job, because there's a lot of people
- 37:45Speaker 3: and like, you know, you're in a good situation.
- 37:47Speaker 2: At at ole Miss.
- 37:48Speaker 3: But then you go to LSU and they were asking
- 37:50Speaker 3: the why, and I'm like, why, I'm bias.
- 37:52Speaker 2: I think I know the why.
- 37:53Speaker 3: I can tell you my why and why because I
- 37:55Speaker 3: think l She's the greatest place on earth. And Coach,
- 37:57Speaker 3: you were in a similar situation, like y'all won national
- 38:00Speaker 3: championships at Baylor, so y'all have done more than Ole Miss, certainly,
- 38:02Speaker 3: and you decided to come to a place that had
- 38:04Speaker 3: never won a national championship, and so you were taking
- 38:07Speaker 3: a leap of faith. And I know you know you're
- 38:10Speaker 3: from Louisiana, so it makes it a little bit different.
- 38:12Speaker 3: But this was a place that you saw and you
- 38:15Speaker 3: wanted to accept the challenge of going to LSU.
- 38:19Speaker 5: I think our wives are different but yet similar. You
- 38:23Speaker 5: just mentioned this is home to me, right, this state.
- 38:27Speaker 5: I didn't come back just to come to LSU. I
- 38:29Speaker 5: came back for this entire state to start appreciating and
- 38:33Speaker 5: loving women's basketball in high school and all the universities
- 38:37Speaker 5: in the state. And that's why I came back. More
- 38:42Speaker 5: so than I thought, Oh, I can win at LSU
- 38:44Speaker 5: like I did at Baylor. I thought the resources would
- 38:48Speaker 5: be much greater at LSU because of being in the SEC,
- 38:52Speaker 5: because of being a larger flagship university versus a private school.
- 38:59Speaker 5: And I thought, if we can do that at Baylor,
- 39:01Speaker 5: which we did. We built the dynasty, guys. And I
- 39:05Speaker 5: didn't know just how hard it was until I got
- 39:09Speaker 5: to LSU and realized, oh man, I just got that
- 39:12Speaker 5: amount of money from a donor. It took me twenty
- 39:14Speaker 5: dollars at Baylor, right, But that's all I knew, and
- 39:20Speaker 5: that was okay with it. I was great. I love Baylor.
- 39:24Speaker 5: My daughter still there, but my grand babies are there.
- 39:27Speaker 5: I still go back to Waco. But his is probably different.
- 39:33Speaker 5: He's never won a national championship, has he no? All right?
- 39:37Speaker 5: So in his mind. I'm not going to speak for him,
- 39:41Speaker 5: but I bet all his mentors were saying to him,
- 39:45Speaker 5: where is it easier to recruit to and which place
- 39:51Speaker 5: will give you the best chance to contend for a
- 39:55Speaker 5: title Every year? I don't know that because hey, oh
- 39:58Speaker 5: miss is contending for a title this year. But I
- 40:02Speaker 5: don't know if it was more difficult to recruit there.
- 40:05Speaker 5: I don't know. I'm just I'm talking out of turn,
- 40:08Speaker 5: really thinking what went through his mind and his mentor's
- 40:12Speaker 5: mind on things that may have made him come here.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Coach, Yeah, I kind of want to just circle back.
- 40:22Speaker 4: I want to talk about talk about your team right now.
- 40:25Speaker 4: And I know there's a lot of things that you
- 40:27Speaker 4: look for, especially in this non conference play, getting and
- 40:30Speaker 4: getting ready. I know you've got a big, big game
- 40:32Speaker 4: tomorrow night against against Duke, But for what y'all have
- 40:35Speaker 4: done so far, I know you don't look at the
- 40:37Speaker 4: final scoreboard, but my god, like I think the LSU
- 40:42Speaker 4: fans certainly are. And you got eight games of scoring
- 40:44Speaker 4: over one hundred points. Now, I don't care who you're playing.
- 40:47Speaker 4: I don't care if you're playing on air. That's that's
- 40:49Speaker 4: hard to do. So, like, just tell me about the
- 40:51Speaker 4: offensive performance that your team has been able to put
- 40:54Speaker 4: up so far.
- 40:55Speaker 5: Well, we have scored a lot of points. But I
- 40:59Speaker 5: didn't know going into to the season with eight new
- 41:01Speaker 5: players that we would be able to score this many points.
- 41:04Speaker 5: I knew the non conference was going to be weak.
- 41:07Speaker 5: I always play a week non conference. I spend November
- 41:10Speaker 5: and December basically as preseason training. I'm trying to figure
- 41:14Speaker 5: it all out. Some people do it different, bring their
- 41:17Speaker 5: kids in in the summer and man, you're all here.
- 41:19Speaker 5: I don't do it that way. I need my summers off.
- 41:22Speaker 5: They need to do their things. Some play USA Basketball.
- 41:27Speaker 5: Now we get criticized a lot because the funniest thing
- 41:30Speaker 5: to me is we were number one in the net
- 41:32Speaker 5: this week. Well that just created an uproar. So my
- 41:39Speaker 5: point to everybody there is it's a flawed system. It's
- 41:46Speaker 5: a flawed system. And when it comes time for the playoffs,
- 41:50Speaker 5: whoever those twelve committee members are guys, they're going to
- 41:53Speaker 5: do what they want to do. They're going to emphasize
- 41:55Speaker 5: what's most important. I've seen programs leaning in, you know,
- 42:02Speaker 5: tight games like the number one versus the number two,
- 42:04Speaker 5: and then when it came time for the playoffs, the
- 42:06Speaker 5: loser didn't get a one seed. Right, So don't don't
- 42:10Speaker 5: read much into people's non conference. It doesn't matter. At
- 42:14Speaker 5: the end of the day, you want to be a
- 42:16Speaker 5: top four seed so you can host on your campus.
- 42:19Speaker 5: The first and second rounds, and then't go try to
- 42:22Speaker 5: win a Natty. And I've won Natties being the one seed.
- 42:26Speaker 5: I've won Natties being the three seed.
- 42:28Speaker 2: It doesn't matter, coach, it's great stuff.
- 42:34Speaker 3: As always, we appreciate the insight into well everything, not
- 42:37Speaker 3: just women's basketball. Certainly looking forward to the matchup with
- 42:41Speaker 3: Duke coming up, looking forward to the matchup you got
- 42:43Speaker 3: in uh gosh, I guess it's coming up in less
- 42:46Speaker 3: than two weeks against Louisiana tagged down in New Orleans.
- 42:49Speaker 3: Looking forward to being in the number there as well,
- 42:51Speaker 3: a lot of exciting matchups coming up. And we always
- 42:54Speaker 3: and hey, it's not just lip service, coach. Our favorite
- 42:56Speaker 3: interview of the week, you guys behavior.
- 42:59Speaker 5: Said, and if you need help getting Lane on air,
- 43:04Speaker 5: call me and I'll have to go meet him and
- 43:05Speaker 5: introduce myself and say, MANE need to come with me.
- 43:08Speaker 5: You got a couple old football players that think they're
- 43:10Speaker 5: still in shape and some place for you. But back
- 43:15Speaker 5: in their heyday, back in their heyday, buddy, they.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Could go, that's right, that's right.
- 43:20Speaker 3: I used to be somebody, for sure, no doubt about now.
- 43:23Speaker 3: I pulled my hamstring thinking about running full speed. So coach,
- 43:26Speaker 3: we appreciate it so much.
- 43:29Speaker 2: God be good you as well. LSU head coach Kim Moulke,
- 43:33Speaker 2: I mean incredible insight, not just basketball. I mean obviously
- 43:36Speaker 2: our teams also, and they're scoring one hundred points per game.
- 43:39Speaker 2: They won last time out one twelve to thirty five.
- 43:42Speaker 3: So you know, we appreciate the basketball inside, the best
- 43:45Speaker 3: basketball mine around, but just into life, into the coaching world,
- 43:50Speaker 3: into all things LSU.
- 43:51Speaker 2: That was fantastic. All right, we'll take a break.
- 43:53Speaker 3: I know we're long for more OTB when we come
- 43:55Speaker 3: back live from the Raisin King studio, Off.
- 43:58Speaker 1: The bench, from the locker room to the airwaves. Gets
- 44:06Speaker 1: off the bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 44:15Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in OTB.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Real quick here in this segment, before we get to
- 44:22Speaker 3: our number three, Billy Lucci is reporting, and of course
- 44:27Speaker 3: Billy Luci textags has everything Texas A and M covered.
- 44:32Speaker 3: He is confirming a report out of Manhattan, Kansas that
- 44:35Speaker 3: Texas A and M offensive coordinator Colin Klein is to
- 44:38Speaker 3: take over for retiring Kansas State head coach Chris Kleman.
- 44:45Speaker 3: Kleine obviously played at Kansas State and this is the
- 44:50Speaker 3: only place I'm seeing it. But if Luci has it,
- 44:52Speaker 3: unless he got hacked, Lochi knows everything Texas A and M.
- 44:56Speaker 2: So let's say reports info way guy do is Holland.
- 44:58Speaker 3: Kline two K State Chris Kleiman is not somebody that
- 45:02Speaker 3: I thought was retiring. But as the Aggies get ready
- 45:05Speaker 3: for a playoff run, it feels like big news.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it does feel like big news. But if.
- 45:12Speaker 4: If Weiss can do it, he can certainly do it.
- 45:15Speaker 4: He can probably still coach coordinate for that team if
- 45:19Speaker 4: they get in.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and we'll get to the wise part of him
- 45:24Speaker 2: going back to Oxford here Coach Molke talking about it.
- 45:27Speaker 2: We'll get into.
- 45:28Speaker 3: It when it jumps back here our number three of
- 45:31Speaker 3: OTB off the bench coaching carousel. Man, it is it
- 45:38Speaker 3: is forever spinning, all right. We've been telling you about
- 45:41Speaker 3: the warehouse. Eel over there at the Marucci hitters house,
- 45:44Speaker 3: and well it's going on right now, and it is
- 45:47Speaker 3: such a great time to go take full advantage of
- 45:50Speaker 3: it because we know that you've got spring baseball right
- 45:53Speaker 3: around the corner. And I know for me and my
