- 0:53Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:57an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 1:01spectrum, your autism ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 1:09So the autism brain is hyper complex and I want to know, do
- 1:13you do this one odd thing? Hey guys, welcome back to the
- 1:15Aspy world. My name is Dan and I have autism
- 1:17and ADHD. I have like weekly videos all
- 1:19about this stuff. So if you're new around here and
- 1:21you want to learn more for me to hit the subscribe button, click
- 1:23the notification bell down below.
- 1:25Guys, what's going on? I want to talk about the autism
- 1:27brain as something really kind of odd or complexly interesting
- 1:31that I do, and I want to know if you guys do it all that is
- 1:35coming up guys, before we move on to the video, I just want to
- 1:37say that I've come across the most amazing app that's going to
- 1:41come to autism right now. This app is called Collage.
- 1:45Now, this is kind of a community, dating, relationship,
- 1:48friendship kind of app. It's a lot better than some of
- 1:50the other rubbish that's been out before.
- 1:52This app is absolutely groundbreaking.
- 1:54I think it's just amazing. Now.
- 1:55Currently, there's a waiting list.
- 1:56If you can jump on that waiting list and you're watching this
- 1:58video, then do it right now. The link is in the description
- 2:01down below and I comment below this video.
- 2:03Go to the Collage Collection website right now and sign up
- 2:06for the waiting list or by the time you watch this video
- 2:08actually might be out so you can just go and download the app
- 2:10straight away. It's absolutely amazing.
- 2:11I think this on its own is going to break the mold between
- 2:15creating community or to relationships and friendships.
- 2:18But more than anything, this is very much a verified platform,
- 2:23which is very secure because you don't want some creepy weirdos
- 2:26kind of going on and downloading an app.
- 2:29So the verification and the vetting process is very strict
- 2:32and very secure. It's absolutely amazing and it's
- 2:34a safe place for autistic people to find relationships with
- 2:37friends and also potential intimate relationships.
- 2:40So definitely check out College app right now.
- 2:43The link is down below guys, you won't be disappointed.
- 2:45OK, roll the video. OK, So what is it?
- 2:47What is this one odd thing? So I want to get into it.
- 2:50Let's talk about the autism brain.
- 2:51Now the autism brain is hyper complex.
- 2:53It has many difficulties, but it also has many strengths.
- 2:56It can problem solve easier, it can understand complexities
- 3:00quite easier, but also it has difficulties.
- 3:02Social communication, issues with language, other types of
- 3:06communication like sensory processing.
- 3:08There's a whole host of things that can happen when you're on
- 3:10the autism spectrum. Now, if you have autism combined
- 3:13with ADHD, then there's a lot of things that can kind of really
- 3:16be disruptive and kind of really put a span in the works of
- 3:19light. But there are things that you
- 3:20can do to help accommodate those.
- 3:23Now, the autism brain is super fast, like hyper fast.
- 3:27My brain is going a bazillion miles per second and, and I'm
- 3:30trying to keep up with it. A lot of people watching my
- 3:33videos will comment saying, hey Don, can you slow down when you
- 3:35talk? Because I can't understand what
- 3:36you're saying, you're talking too fast, blah, blah, blah.
- 3:38This is because my brain is going so fast and trying to keep
- 3:41up with it by all the information that's coming out of
- 3:44my brain to put into my mouth to tell you guys about it.
- 3:45And this is a little bit difficult because having to slow
- 3:48down your brain to talk at acceptable speed is really,
- 3:52really difficult. But it also works the other way
- 3:54around. When I'm listening to
- 3:56television, documentaries, audiobooks, podcasts, you name
- 4:00it, YouTube videos, they're always a little bit slow.
- 4:02I'm like, Oh my goodness, like it needs to get faster, it needs
- 4:05to be faster, ha ha. Enter the most interesting thing
- 4:09ever. About 3 or 4 years ago, I
- 4:11realized that was a playback speed button on YouTube on your
- 4:14phone for your audio podcasts, audiobooks, whatever.
- 4:17And I was like, hey, what if I put the books at 2 times speed?
- 4:21So I, I change everything to two times speed.
- 4:24What this does is remarkable. There's two things there's two
- 4:28sets here. 1 is it speeds up the audio information and the visual
- 4:31information to match the speed of my brain because my brain is
- 4:34going two times faster than the things I've seen, hence why I
- 4:36speak fast. But also I can understand it a
- 4:39lot better and understand those videos a lot better because
- 4:41they're at a faster pace of this second component.
- 4:44Why this is awesome is because we one of the biggest things
- 4:47that autistic people have is the worry domino, right?
- 4:49And worry domino is when you know you want to learn something
- 4:52like how to change the windscreen wipers in your car.
- 4:55So you watch a YouTube video, but there's so much bump in it
- 4:58and it takes such a long time to get to it.
- 5:00You're already worried that the time's taking you to watch how
- 5:02to change something, right, but has then added time on to the
- 5:05rest of your day like a domino. It's, it's knocked over
- 5:07something else and something else is going to be delayed and
- 5:08blah, blah, blah. So when you're speeding up a
- 5:11video to watch it, not only are you able to understand it
- 5:14better, you also free up the time that would take you to
- 5:16watch it, which gives you extra time, which frees up some of
- 5:19these dominoes. A lot of autistic individuals
- 5:21struggle with these dominoes. I actually have a free PDF book
- 5:25for autism Lifehacks. You can go to autismtips.net
- 5:28right now. There is a link in the
- 5:29description if you want to to download my free autism Lifex
- 5:32book and it helps with things like this.
- 5:34But you know what's interesting is we're trying to diminish the
- 5:37amount of dominoes we have, increase the amount of dopamine
- 5:40we can access and really have a more pleasurable, more
- 5:44accessible experience for autistic individuals.
- 5:46Now this may not work with everybody.
- 5:48I know a lot of people watching my videos and a big thumbs up to
- 5:51you guys. If you are watching videos and
- 5:53you watch about two times speed, please put a comment down below.
- 5:56And like this video said me because I want to know if you're
- 5:59watching my videos at 2 times speed because I get comments
- 6:02like this quite often. People are watching my videos at
- 6:04two set of speed and I'm already talking super fast.
- 6:06Like I already think I'm talking really fast.
- 6:08But also when people say in real life, people say to me like, you
- 6:10know, hey Dan, can you speak of it slower?
- 6:12I can't understand you, especially my family.
- 6:14It really kind of, it's a bit annoying.
- 6:16It's kind of like they don't respect that that's how I am.
- 6:20It's kind of like me saying so well, can you speed up talking,
- 6:22you know, imagine saying to me, hey, you speak at your slow
- 6:24speed up. It's quite rude, isn't it?
- 6:25So to tell someone to slow down when they speak is also super
- 6:28rude. So it's hard to balance that
- 6:31out. And I tried my best.
- 6:33I am a performing artist out. I'm in a band called
- 6:34Straitjacket Legends. We have a racket out in Japan.
- 6:37We have a racket out in the US And I've toured all over the
- 6:40world playing music. And one of the things I get a
- 6:43lot of the time is people say I couldn't understand what you
- 6:45said. You speak it too fast on stage
- 6:48and when you're performing or giving keynote speeches, you
- 6:51know, and I do keynote speeches for autism all over the world.
- 6:53You know, I did the first ever autism speech in Vidcon in
- 6:57Anaheim near Los Angeles in 2019 with Jess from How to ADHD, good
- 7:01friend of mine. She took out a book out as well.
- 7:03So go check out her new book. And you know, it's kind of like
- 7:07people come to the keynotes, never say, hey, dude, slow down.
- 7:10You're speaking too fast because they get it.
- 7:12There's energy, there's passion, there's like this, this wanting
- 7:16to, to get the information out. But I find out some people can't
- 7:19be quite rude with it. And this comes down to another
- 7:21thing where a lot of people dismiss autism.
- 7:22So I use my secret weapon to not only digest stuff, but to kind
- 7:26of feed that feeling you're going, it's OK to speed things
- 7:29up. It's OK to to have things at a
- 7:32faster pace because we're assisting people like we should
- 7:35be accepted for who we are. Now, it doesn't work with
- 7:38everything. Some videos, if I speed them up,
- 7:40they are kind of complex in in how they've been uploaded and it
- 7:44kind of doesn't really, really flow well.
- 7:46Most of the time it does though, because the technology now is so
- 7:48advanced that when you do speed something up, it kind of just
- 7:50speeds it up without breaking. The thing I want to know is this
- 7:53something you do and if it isn't something you do, how do you
- 7:56overcome this and do you experience this?
- 7:59A lot of people tell me that they don't experience it, but
- 8:01most autistic individuals tell me they do experience it.
- 8:04I want to know do you experience it?
- 8:05Do you not drop me a comment down below?
- 8:07Let's have a discussion. I read every single comment and
- 8:10I reply to pretty much all of them as much as I can now.
- 8:13These videos are all to do with autism and ADHD.
- 8:17I have a bunch more videos so please check out the links in
- 8:19the description down below. You guys have been amazing.
