- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Tuesday.
- 0:15It's the 17th of June, and it's so good that you have said, come
- 0:19on, Sean, wake up, come and read with me.
- 0:21Let us cover another chapter of God's word because we are
- 0:25continuing this week exploring what it looks like to have no
- 0:30other God beside God. And today as we live, you know,
- 0:34under this new covenant that Jesus has brought us, it can
- 0:38feel quite well, a bit of a given that God would communicate
- 0:42what he's like because we have this incredible revelation of
- 0:45God's character through Jesus. But for those Israelites, they
- 0:49didn't really know a whole lot about God or who he was or how
- 0:53he operated. So for God to come to them and
- 0:57give them this covenant, this new deal, that they understood
- 1:02exactly what God expected of them and what they could then
- 1:05expect from God, this was revolutionary and in itself this
- 1:09incredible act of grace and God coming down to meet the needs of
- 1:13his people. And today we're going to explore
- 1:15that and explore that. Having God as our God means
- 1:19loving and obeying him, which friends, is pretty timeless
- 1:23advice. So let us settle down and hear
- 1:26Moses as he speaks through time and space to us today as we
- 1:32listen to Deuteronomy chapter 10.
- 1:45At that time the Lord said to me, chisel out two stone tablets
- 1:50like the first ones. Also make a wooden ark a sacred
- 1:54chest to store them in. Come up to me on the mountain
- 1:59and I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the
- 2:03ones you smashed. Then place the tablets in the
- 2:06ark. So I made an ark of Acacia wood
- 2:10and cut 2 stone tablets like the first two.
- 2:14Then I went up to the mountain with the tablets in my hand.
- 2:18Once again the Lord wrote the 10 commandments on the tablets and
- 2:22gave them to me. They were the same words the
- 2:25Lord had spoken to you from the heart of the fire on the day you
- 2:28were assembled at the foot of the mountain.
- 2:31Then I turned and came down the mountain and placed the tablets
- 2:35in the Ark of the Covenant, which I had just made, just as
- 2:39the Lord commanded me, and the tablets are still there in the
- 2:43Ark. The people of Israel set out
- 2:47from the wells of the people of Jakan and travelled to Mossura,
- 2:51where Aaron died and was buried. His son Eliezer ministered as
- 2:56high priest in his place. Then they journeyed to Gajdah
- 3:02and from there to Jotbathan, a land with many brooks and
- 3:06streams. At that time the Lord set apart
- 3:10the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the Lord's covenant and
- 3:14to stand before the Lord as His ministers and to pronounce
- 3:18blessings in His name. These are their duties to this
- 3:22day. That is why the Levites have no
- 3:25share of property or possession of land among the other
- 3:28Israelite tribes. The Lord Himself is their
- 3:31possession, as the Lord your God told them.
- 3:35As for me, I stayed on the mountain in the Lord's presence
- 3:38for 40 days and nights, as I'd done the first time, and once
- 3:42again the Lord listened to my pleas and agreed not to destroy
- 3:47you. Then the Lord said to me, get up
- 3:50and resume the journey and lead the people to the land I swore
- 3:54to give their ancestors so they may take possession of it.
- 3:59And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you?
- 4:04He requires only that you fear the Lord your God and live in a
- 4:09way that pleases Him, and love Him and serve Him with all your
- 4:13heart and soul. And you must always obey the
- 4:17Lord's commands and decrees that I'm giving you today for your
- 4:20own good. Look, the highest heavens and
- 4:25the earth and everything in it belonged to the Lord your God.
- 4:29Yet the Lord chose your ancestors as the objects of His
- 4:33love, and He chose you, their descendants, above all other
- 4:37nations, as is evident today. Therefore, change your hearts
- 4:42and stop being stubborn. For the Lord your God is the God
- 4:47of Gods and Lord of Lords. He is the great God, the mighty
- 4:52and awesome God who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed.
- 4:58He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice.
- 5:01He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them
- 5:05food and clothing. So you too must show love to
- 5:09foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land
- 5:12of Egypt. You must fear the Lord your God
- 5:16and worship Him and cling to Him.
- 5:19Your oaths must be in His name alone.
- 5:22He alone is your God, the only One who is worthy of your praise
- 5:27and one who has done these mighty miracles that you have
- 5:31seen with your own eyes. When your ancestors went down
- 5:35into Egypt, there were only 70 of them, but now the Lord your
- 5:40God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.
- 5:55My God, you are mighty and incredible and all knowing, but
- 5:59the message you give us is clear and simple.
- 6:03All you desire from us, Lord, is our love and our willingness to
- 6:09follow what you ask us to do. That's it.
- 6:13That's as complicated as it is. And Moses words tell us that all
- 6:18of these things that you ask us to do, they are for our own
- 6:22good. As if you need.
- 6:25Your ego needs us to jump up and down and praise of you.
- 6:28No, you are self sufficient, but you know that when we adopt
- 6:33hearts of praise and worship to You that we choose to follow you
- 6:39and the ways that you teach us which are the ways which are
- 6:42best for us. So Lord, continue to humble us
- 6:45before you, that we would put your will 1st and follow your
- 6:50good and helpful instructions for our life.
- 6:55And we thank you for Jesus who came and just made everything
- 6:59crystal clear of how much you love us.
- 7:03Oh, thank you for your love. Thank you that you continually
- 7:07walk with us, drawing us ever closer to you.
- 7:09And we pray all of this in your saving name, Jesus, Amen.
