- 0:03Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, today in our studio on this Thursday morning, uh,
- 0:07Speaker 1: I've run out of adjectives and phrases to glaze this
- 0:10Speaker 1: man because he's a regular and always delivers. Not my postman,
- 0:14Speaker 1: but ladies and gentlemen, this is Sasari, cat daddy.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Yeah, we just came out with that like 2 seconds ago.
- 0:25Speaker 1: We did it. We did it. So, the last time
- 0:27Speaker 1: you were here, I think I was in Bhutan. This
- 0:29Speaker 1: was in June. Uh, the last I read about you
- 0:33Speaker 1: last night doing some research, you've gone from being judged
- 0:36Speaker 1: to being a judge. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:39Speaker 1: What's it like being on Anu, man? Can you, can
- 0:41Speaker 1: you even speak about it now at this point? Yeah, yeah. OK.
- 0:43Speaker 1: So a lot of people don't know, but I auditioned
- 0:46Speaker 1: for I auditioned for.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It's kind of a rite of passage for all, I
- 0:51Speaker 1: think Malay singers to audition for Anugra, really, really. Anugra
- 0:54Speaker 1: is like a huge thing in our community, um, and I,
- 0:59Speaker 1: I didn't even make it past the first round actually
- 1:01Speaker 1: and I didn't, I, I really blocked it out of
- 1:03Speaker 1: my mind because I went, I, I went and did
- 1:05Speaker 1: Idol two years later and, and things happened, right, but
- 1:09Speaker 1: I just blocked it out of my mind that I
- 1:10Speaker 1: even auditioned until I was there at the first audition
- 1:13Speaker 1: going like, wait, this feels familiar.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Literally, like wait, the logo and everything. Then I was like,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I was asking the marketing team, have I, have I
- 1:22Speaker 1: ever seen? And then one of the guys was like,
- 1:23Speaker 1: actually you have 2007. I was like, how do you
- 1:26Speaker 1: remember this? He pulled up a picture of me. He
- 1:28Speaker 1: pulled up a picture of me and he was like,
- 1:30Speaker 1: this is you. I wiped it out of my memory
- 1:33Speaker 1: and my, my photos.
- 1:35Speaker 1: OK, but, but you know, since you have experienced being
- 1:39Speaker 1: in a part of like reality shows more than once
- 1:42Speaker 1: or twice already, right? What has changed since like 2007?
- 1:45Speaker 1: You mentioned 2007, was it? What has changed since then
- 1:48Speaker 1: for you? It's such a different time back then. I
- 1:52Speaker 1: think as a judge, I'm much nicer. I don't know,
- 1:57Speaker 1: I mean generally.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I always feel like as someone who's been criticized a lot,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I feel like I'd rather uplift. I think that works
- 2:04Speaker 1: better for, for, for a majority of people actually, yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and reality shows of yore used to be quite rough
- 2:11Speaker 1: in a sense that there was, there was no time
- 2:13Speaker 1: to do anything and everyone was, it was kind of
- 2:16Speaker 1: new for everyone, you know, whereas now everyone's a bit
- 2:18Speaker 1: more cognizant about it going in.
- 2:20Speaker 1: You know, you know that this, you know what's what
- 2:23Speaker 1: social media existed, that was their form of rich baiting, right? Like,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you know, the means, like just make people fired up
- 2:29Speaker 1: and like we have social media so we don't need that.
- 2:32Speaker 1: They can create their own stories already. Now we have
- 2:34Speaker 1: TikTok and Instagrams to deal with. I wonder what would
- 2:37Speaker 1: have happened if that happened during our time in Singapore 2009, 2006.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's OK, yeah, yeah, but aside from that, what are
- 2:45Speaker 1: you busy with in terms of life man and music
- 2:48Speaker 1: in your, in your own world? I've been working on
- 2:53Speaker 1: some other people's music this past couple of months, yeah,
- 2:56Speaker 1: a really brilliant young Singaporean artist that we're gonna, we're
- 3:00Speaker 1: gonna debut that we just signed to our independent label.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I don't wanna talk too much about it, but she,
- 3:05Speaker 1: she's she's an amazing singer.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And I can't wait to work on the music. Other
- 3:10Speaker 1: than that, we, we, I'm working on a live album
- 3:13Speaker 1: that we're going to release in a couple of months.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I've been like dripping the release on my, on my, um,
- 3:18Speaker 1: YouTube where we recorded a whole live session in my
- 3:21Speaker 1: living room in HDB.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Um, so yeah, playing music in HDB is fun. I
- 3:25Speaker 1: wouldn't recommend it for your neighbors. Luckily no one complained. No, they,
- 3:34Speaker 1: they are enjoying it, I think it's the soundtrack to
- 3:37Speaker 1: work from home I'm fighting against the auntie downstairs area, right?
- 3:46Speaker 1: I can hear.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Recordings or her singing in your recordings. No, no, we can't,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I can assure you she's really good. Maybe you should
- 4:02Speaker 1: do this whole thing it's called the surrender and it's
- 4:02Speaker 1: kind of like me being in my most comfortable place,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know. I mean I've played music in a lot
- 4:06Speaker 1: of places but
- 4:08Speaker 1: The most comfortable place to play music is really at home. Well,
- 4:11Speaker 1: now that you're moving into more of like a mentorship role,
- 4:15Speaker 1: like where you know, you're guiding a lot of like
- 4:17Speaker 1: young artists and shaping them and all that. Is there
- 4:21Speaker 1: something that you feel you wish you had back then
- 4:25Speaker 1: when you were their age and you were developing an industry?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Is that why you're doing this?
- 4:33Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know, but I, I, no, I,
- 4:35Speaker 1: I really wish that I had someone. I, I wish
- 4:38Speaker 1: I had a mentor. Yeah, um, I don't know. I
- 4:41Speaker 1: kind of wish I get someone to just not tell
- 4:44Speaker 1: me what to do, but kind of just when you're
- 4:46Speaker 1: new to this industry, everything is super overwhelming, you know,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and there's a lot of things that you don't know
- 4:50Speaker 1: that you should know that people gatekeep or something, I feel.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah, so I think I'm the kind that really likes
- 4:56Speaker 1: to not gatekeep you sound check, you should do this
- 5:01Speaker 1: because people are gonna do this and say this and
- 5:03Speaker 1: they're gonna do that and they're gonna do this, and
- 5:04Speaker 1: I think this this is a really important information and etiquette,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I think to exist in this realm. I don't know
- 5:18Speaker 1: what we're slowly.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Giving back and also nurturing the future generation, sustainability is. No,
- 5:25Speaker 1: it's true, but what you said is right, but there
- 5:27Speaker 1: are some that, you know what I mean? I feel
- 5:35Speaker 1: like everybody has their, you know, everybody, everybody's life, yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 1: everybody's lives are different and everybody has their own struggles, yeah. OK, well,
- 5:42Speaker 1: we're gonna take a short break. When we come back.
- 5:45Speaker 1: You're gonna do a live performance. Actually, wait, that's tomorrow actually.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I mean, he's gonna sing us a song and then
- 5:51Speaker 1: if you want more, like a full band set or whatever,
- 5:53Speaker 1: he's gonna tease in just a bit. Tomorrow over at
- 5:56Speaker 1: the Esplanade Riverfront Stage, uh, fresh music live happening from
- 6:00Speaker 1: 7 p.m. onwards. And still live with Cesare. He's all
- 6:03Speaker 1: warmed up now. He's got his guitar set up, ready
- 6:06Speaker 1: for a little live performance in a few seconds like
- 6:08Speaker 1: an exclusive.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Sneak preview for you on what's happening tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
- 6:13Speaker 1: onwards at the Esplanade Riverfront Stage hosted by yours truly
- 6:16Speaker 1: and Omar Kenobi for 987 Indigo's Fresh Music Live. So
- 6:20Speaker 1: for Cesari, you are the headliner, uh, are we expecting
- 6:22Speaker 1: a full band? And I, I'm bringing. And when I
- 6:26Speaker 1: say full band, are these people that we know? I know. OK,
- 6:29Speaker 1: there we go. Yeah. Oh, it's almost like inducing him
- 6:32Speaker 1: on stage during my national service days again.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys go way back. OK, so what will
- 6:38Speaker 1: you be doing for us this morning live on air
- 6:40Speaker 1: and on TikTok? I think I'm gonna, I'm gonna do
- 6:42Speaker 1: a sad song. Can we have a sad morning? Why not?
- 6:44Speaker 1: A sad morning.
- 6:45Speaker 2: OK, but he smiley.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Everyone's
- 6:47Speaker 2: thinking
- 6:47Speaker 1: about
- 6:47Speaker 2: your
- 6:47Speaker 1: exes, so this goes for you.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I'm gonna walk out the room. Think of my
- 6:52Speaker 1: exes. I
- 6:52Speaker 2: play
- 6:52Speaker 1: some
- 6:53Speaker 2: rich song. I'm kidding. I'm kidding, I'm kidding.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Alright, anytime, Suari,
- 6:58Speaker 2: you
- 6:58Speaker 1: take it away.
- 7:06Speaker 2: All the memories of you that just won't go.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I think
- 7:14Speaker 2: More than I admit to.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Love has faded.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I remember
- 7:24Speaker 2: Like it was yesterday.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Though I can't escape the sadness in your
- 7:38Speaker 2: That
- 7:42Speaker 2: Wish we could forget it.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Like it was
- 7:54Speaker 2: He
- 8:00Speaker 2: We were
- 8:06Speaker 2: that he
- 8:11Speaker 2: just
- 8:12Speaker 2: Like yesterday.
- 8:17Speaker 2: I'm holding on to thought.
- 8:21Speaker 2: All I do is look into a city.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I
- 8:30Speaker 2: Can't be without you.
- 8:33Speaker 2: long.
- 8:39Speaker 2: want to go back.
- 8:41Speaker 2: it was
- 8:50Speaker 2: I've known
- 8:54Speaker 2: that you
- 8:57Speaker 2: be lonely just like yesterday.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Somehow we go back to how it was.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I hope we find a way to let go what
- 9:16Speaker 2: we lost.
- 9:19Speaker 2: We are human.
- 9:22Speaker 2: We can learn.
- 9:24Speaker 2: From Malis today.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I'll be staying till the end of time.
- 9:41Speaker 2: You're my destiny.
- 9:43Speaker 2: And I promise things will be.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Like it was yesterday.
- 10:01Speaker 1: It's Cesare
- 10:02Speaker 2: in the studio.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Alright. I mean, I wanted to cheer, but
- 10:05Speaker 2: the song was so sad.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I, I felt like there was a certain lightness in it.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It wasn't entirely sad. There's a certain hopefulness, knowing that
- 10:15Speaker 1: when you make a mistake, you can always make it right.
- 10:18Speaker 1: For sure, 100%. And I think plenty of people agree, um,
- 10:21Speaker 1: essentially saying.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I think vocals in the morning. This is so nice.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Thank you. I'm saying hi to Chai, to Sue, to Josh,
- 10:27Speaker 1: Hui Ting, everyone tuning in right now on TikTok Live
- 10:30Speaker 1: and commenting as well. They're loving it. Another comment saying,
- 10:32Speaker 1: please release an acoustic version of this song. Ah, OK,
- 10:38Speaker 1: I will with your cats in the background. Meow meow
- 10:41Speaker 1: meow meow.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Uh, sari, anything else to plug for us on this
- 10:44Speaker 1: Thursday morning, because I think we've asked you all we
- 10:47Speaker 1: have to ask already. I'm quite excited to play at
- 10:49Speaker 1: the Esplanade Outdoor. I haven't, I haven't played that in
- 10:52Speaker 1: a year.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It's a great location, nice landscape, I haven't played in
- 10:59Speaker 1: a while, but I, I played like forever, so I can.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I hope everyone gets to come out and hear some
- 11:08Speaker 1: music in probably I think one of the best backdrops
- 11:12Speaker 1: there will be in Singapore. I mean, I'm so proud
- 11:15Speaker 1: that it's because the
- 11:17Speaker 1: Esplanade, you attract Singaporeans and tourists who are not from Singapore.
- 11:21Speaker 1: They could be walking by and then just stop in
- 11:23Speaker 1: their tracks and listen to music. I love that. Yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 1: can you imagineesari songs blowing up in China, for example?
- 11:28Speaker 1: Hey man, I. Yeah, Thailand, Myanmar, wherever. Yeah. OK, we're
- 11:32Speaker 1: still live on TikTok. We'll say a proper goodbye, but meantime, Cesari,
- 11:35Speaker 1: thank you for joining us once again.
