- 0:07Speaker 1: Guys are normally a normal thing for when the news
- 0:10Speaker 1: kids mirried, I am Marvin.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yim and I'm Carol Marcowitz. How was your weekend, marry Catherine?
- 0:16Speaker 3: It was pretty good.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I flew back and forth from Michigan so I could
- 0:20Speaker 1: see the little kids and make sure that I do
- 0:22Speaker 1: daylight saving time with two toddlers.
- 0:27Speaker 3: You'd hate to leave just your husband there for.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you wanted the experience, of course.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I actually woke up at seven and was like, look
- 0:35Speaker 1: at these angel children sleeping.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Till seven before I realized, yeah, this is the good one.
- 0:40Speaker 4: This is the springing forward is the one that everybody likes,
- 0:43Speaker 4: and the falling backward as the disaster one.
- 0:46Speaker 2: At least I think that's the way it goes.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I feel like I'm basically neutral. They didn't torture me
- 0:52Speaker 3: too much. We're fine. Yeah, are you doing not bad?
- 0:55Speaker 4: Yeah? It's uh, it's you know, once they hit a
- 0:58Speaker 4: certain age, it's their problem whether whether they can sleep
- 1:03Speaker 4: or not sleep. And that's where we are now. So yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 4: youngest is ten minutes. You know, if he gets to bed,
- 1:09Speaker 4: that's up to him.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I've handed that off to you children.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yes, yes, all right, what is going on in the world.
- 1:18Speaker 4: You know, it's funny you and I were discussing whether
- 1:21Speaker 4: Iran should be our first topic or not. Obviously Iran
- 1:25Speaker 4: is the major topic, but we're going to leave that
- 1:27Speaker 4: for the second segment because in New York City, Imir
- 1:31Speaker 4: Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi have been arrested for throwing bomb
- 1:38Speaker 4: like devices. Jessica Tish, who is the NYPD Commissioner, says
- 1:45Speaker 4: that it was not a hoax device or a smoke bomb.
- 1:48Speaker 4: These were improvised explosive devices that could have caused serious
- 1:52Speaker 4: injury or death.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Now you heard the.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Name, Thank you, Commissioner Tish for being pretty.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Yeah, she's I mean New Yorkers should if she goes
- 2:07Speaker 4: anywhere like it's a real problem for New York.
- 2:11Speaker 2: New Yorker should hang on to her as best as possible.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But what's been.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Going on in New York is that these attacks, that
- 2:19Speaker 4: these bombs were thrown near Gracie Mansion, where Mayor Mom
- 2:24Speaker 4: Donnie lives, and so the news is pretending that this
- 2:29Speaker 4: is about Islamophobia. The New York Times went with the
- 2:32Speaker 4: headline smoking jars of metal and fuses thrown at protest
- 2:36Speaker 4: near Mayor's house. NBC New York had multiple arrests made
- 2:41Speaker 4: after suspicious devices found outside Gracy Mansion, home of Mayor's
- 2:45Speaker 4: or Mamdannie, during anti Islam rally and counter protest. Now,
- 2:50Speaker 4: there was an anti Islam rally going on, but that's
- 2:55Speaker 4: not who was involved in the bombing at all. In fact,
- 2:57Speaker 4: were they of the targets of that bombing?
- 3:01Speaker 1: Well and Zoron Momdani's statement further confuses by saying, yesterday,
- 3:07Speaker 1: white supremacist Jake Lang organized a protest outside Gracie Mansion
- 3:11Speaker 1: rooted in bigotry and racism. Such hate has no place
- 3:14Speaker 1: in New York City. It is an affront to our
- 3:16Speaker 1: city's values and the unity that defines who we are.
- 3:19Speaker 1: We followed what followed was even more disturbing. Violence at
- 3:22Speaker 1: a protest is never acceptable. The attempt to use an
- 3:24Speaker 1: explosive device and hurt others is not only criminal, it
- 3:27Speaker 1: is reprehensible and the antithesis of.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Who we are.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I want to thank the brave men and women of
- 3:32Speaker 1: the New York PD who acted quickly to keep New
- 3:35Speaker 1: Yorker safe. Our officers ran toward danger without hesitation, demonstrating
- 3:38Speaker 1: once again the courage and dedication it takes to protect
- 3:40Speaker 1: the city every single day. My administration is closely monitoring
- 3:43Speaker 1: the situation, and I remain in contact with our police commissioner.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I think you could monitor it a little bit closer.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I think you could monitor it close enough to find
- 3:54Speaker 1: out who was throwing the bombs.
- 3:56Speaker 3: It's like the Geese meme who.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Threw the bombs, It's actually amazing. So the terrorists jumped
- 4:04Speaker 4: over a leftist with a megaphone who was saying, basically,
- 4:08Speaker 4: everybody's welcome in New York and everything's fine, and you
- 4:12Speaker 4: know these protesters are the bad people here. And to
- 4:16Speaker 4: show you how unwell leftism has become, the protester who
- 4:20Speaker 4: again the terrorists like leapt on top of him to
- 4:23Speaker 4: throw the bomb.
- 4:24Speaker 2: He tweets.
- 4:25Speaker 4: I cannot stress this enough. It was right near our
- 4:27Speaker 4: feet and it did not look real. We just stood
- 4:29Speaker 4: there laughing. Meanwhile, the inself femoids ran away, having been
- 4:33Speaker 4: totally gesture mogged. Their cortisol levels have yet to recover. Like, dude,
- 4:38Speaker 4: you almost died in a bombing.
- 4:40Speaker 3: It is so embarrassing. Yeah, you're not brave, you're stupid.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Well and mom, Donnie's statement illustrates what too many leftists
- 4:52Speaker 1: and liberals and academics believe, which is that the speech
- 4:56Speaker 1: of Jake Lang is the most dangerous thing happened at
- 5:00Speaker 1: that event. And I'm sorry, like it's not his speech,
- 5:04Speaker 1: even when reprehensible, is not an ied and the proper
- 5:09Speaker 1: response to his speech is speech, not an ied in
- 5:12Speaker 1: attempting to kill people. By the way, these two young
- 5:15Speaker 1: men radicalized in the United States come from Bucks County, Pennsylvania,
- 5:21Speaker 1: where they live in a very very nice house.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Bucks County is a lovely place. This is not a.
- 5:29Speaker 1: These guys did not have hardships, We didn't torture them.
- 5:33Speaker 1: This society has been quite good to them. And they
- 5:36Speaker 1: decided to travel to New York City to do this,
- 5:39Speaker 1: to perpetrate violence on their fellow citizens.
- 5:42Speaker 4: And apparently they made pro Isis comments and held up
- 5:45Speaker 4: the one finger as they were purp walked, and of
- 5:49Speaker 4: that one finger is apparently.
- 5:50Speaker 2: An Isis sign.
- 5:52Speaker 4: I have to say also, the way that this is
- 5:54Speaker 4: being covered, I know that we're kind of laughing about it,
- 5:57Speaker 4: and we're saying, look, how ridiculous The New York Times
- 5:59Speaker 4: and yours are Mom Donnie all pretending that it's like
- 6:03Speaker 4: an attack on Islamists and.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Not from Islamists. But the thing is that a lot of.
- 6:10Speaker 4: The conspiracy theories that we see permeating on the right
- 6:13Speaker 4: and on the left stems from this kind of stuff.
- 6:16Speaker 4: People feel like they've been lied to for so long
- 6:19Speaker 4: that anything goes anybody can be believed. I think that
- 6:23Speaker 4: when you have the New York Times blatantly lying to
- 6:26Speaker 4: people over and over and over again, the Candice Owans
- 6:29Speaker 4: of the world, the Tucker Carlson's of the world, realized
- 6:31Speaker 4: they could just say whatever they want to.
- 6:33Speaker 2: They could just.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Say what they hope could be true, just like The
- 6:36Speaker 4: New York Times does and get a pass.
- 6:38Speaker 2: And that's actually what's happening well.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And what the press does is that they specifically on
- 6:46Speaker 1: the issue of political violence, which the numbers the polling
- 6:49Speaker 1: shows that liberals, particularly liberal women, support the idea of
- 6:54Speaker 1: political violence in much larger numbers.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Than conservatives do. These are just real things.
- 7:00Speaker 1: And what the press does is that they erase leftist
- 7:03Speaker 1: violence and ignore it, or they alchemize.
- 7:06Speaker 3: It into something else.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Islamis violence is something they don't want to talk about,
- 7:10Speaker 1: so they're like, let's just pretend that it's something else,
- 7:13Speaker 1: and that gives a really incomplete picture It's sure, it's
- 7:16Speaker 1: easy to think that the right is uniquely politically violent.
- 7:20Speaker 1: If you alchemize every other kind of violence into right
- 7:23Speaker 1: wing violence, that does distort the numbers quite a bit.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And I saw it in real time at CNN when
- 7:30Speaker 1: I worked there when the baseball shooting happened, which is
- 7:34Speaker 1: explicitly political violence by a Bernie Broke who camped out
- 7:38Speaker 1: in my neighborhood for a month to stalk these people,
- 7:40Speaker 1: and then ask Ron DeSantis, then a congressman, before he
- 7:43Speaker 1: went to shoot everybody.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Are those Republicans?
- 7:46Speaker 1: I just want to make sure when that happened, within
- 7:50Speaker 1: twenty four hours, I was talking about how Trump's rhetoric
- 7:54Speaker 1: might have been the real culprit here on CNN.
- 7:57Speaker 3: That's what I was being asked.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what they do.
- 8:00Speaker 4: They turn it into something that does not exist, and
- 8:03Speaker 4: Americans kind of either know they're being lied to or
- 8:07Speaker 4: they don't, and either way, it's not a good situation
- 8:11Speaker 4: with what ends up happening in our country.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I mean, this one, this coverage is just such dishonest.
- 8:18Speaker 2: BS.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's terrible, unacceptable, and there's you know, no no
- 8:24Speaker 4: way we can really complain about it, you know, We've
- 8:26Speaker 4: been pointing out media bias for our whole entire careers,
- 8:30Speaker 4: and we've been showing the lies that they tell and
- 8:32Speaker 4: all the I mean, during COVID, you and I had
- 8:35Speaker 4: a lot of time to point out lies and moral
- 8:38Speaker 4: lies that the media was beating the population. And then
- 8:41Speaker 4: when we look around and like, wow, people just don't
- 8:44Speaker 4: trust anything anything that anybody says that this is where
- 8:48Speaker 4: it comes from, This.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Is where it comes from, and it does not does
- 8:52Speaker 1: not make things better if you don't behave yourselves better. Yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 1: New York Times, and they don't think it's a problem.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's that's the issue. It's not it's not an honest
- 9:00Speaker 1: mistake that they're going to correct.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Right right.
- 9:03Speaker 4: So my old city councilman, Bradlander, who is the absolute worst.
- 9:07Speaker 4: And you know I always make the comment like, as
- 9:09Speaker 4: you can see New York's decline by how far Bradlander
- 9:13Speaker 4: is allowed to rise, he's actually primarying another leftist Democrat
- 9:17Speaker 4: for Congress because that guy's not leftist enough.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:20Speaker 4: He tweeted, happy to know that our mayor and first
- 9:22Speaker 4: Lady are safe, but horrified that there's such a disturbing
- 9:25Speaker 4: threat of violence outside their residents. Vile displays of Islamophobia
- 9:29Speaker 4: will never be tolerated in our city. I mean, Bradlander
- 9:33Speaker 4: marched with the Women's March when it was clear that
- 9:36Speaker 4: they were anti Semites. Like when a lot of leftists
- 9:39Speaker 4: and liberals left the Women's March because they were like, Okay,
- 9:41Speaker 4: these these women are complete jew haters. Bradlander, who's Jewish,
- 9:46Speaker 4: was like, that's fine, I'll just march with them anyway.
- 9:49Speaker 4: And as of this recording, he has not corrected the
- 9:51Speaker 4: islamophobia nonsense on his Twitter, so we'll see.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it was designed to be misinformation and just unfortunately
- 10:03Speaker 1: we don't have a reliable narrator, and you have to
- 10:05Speaker 1: do a lot of work to figure out that it's
- 10:07Speaker 1: real and what is not. That's in this case, the
- 10:10Speaker 1: New York Times was doing hard work to turn you
- 10:12Speaker 1: in the wrong direction.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Yeah, and again the guy who almost got killed by
- 10:19Speaker 4: a bomb and thinks it's funny and it's funny that
- 10:22Speaker 4: people were scared of a bomb, Like this is the
- 10:24Speaker 4: best example of God Said's suicidal empathy. It's like, I
- 10:30Speaker 4: am so open minded that I don't even care if
- 10:33Speaker 4: I get killed with his bomb as long as I'm
- 10:35Speaker 4: not seen as racist. As long as I'm fighting racism,
- 10:38Speaker 4: like you are the lamest person alive and you almost died.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Another by the way, should flag the rhetorical use of
- 10:45Speaker 1: something like this by some on the more isolationist right,
- 10:49Speaker 1: who will say, aha, look, we have created this by
- 10:53Speaker 1: our actions in the Middle East. This is a retaliation
- 10:56Speaker 1: and therefore, well, I would say, we've come a long
- 10:59Speaker 1: way from we don't negotiate with terrorists, right, so we
- 11:03Speaker 1: don't dictate our policy in those ways. Please make arguments
- 11:07Speaker 1: against the policy, but this kind of violent attack will
- 11:11Speaker 1: not be an acceptable argument against.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Yes, the thing is that these are American boys, Like, yes,
- 11:17Speaker 4: there are Muslim American boys. But are we really saying
- 11:20Speaker 4: that Muslims can never become fully American, that they can
- 11:24Speaker 4: never adapt to being fully American They always have their
- 11:28Speaker 4: eye on the Middle East. I mean, that's the accusation
- 11:30Speaker 4: that's made against Jews, that they care too much about Israel.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I just think it's nonsense.
- 11:36Speaker 4: I think you can be America first, no matter what
- 11:39Speaker 4: religion you are, and we can't be giving a pass
- 11:41Speaker 4: to Muslims who are upset about events happening in other
- 11:45Speaker 4: countries while they live their crushy lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
- 11:48Speaker 4: All right, we're going to take a short break and
- 11:50Speaker 4: come back to the real issue.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Iran.
- 11:56Speaker 4: We are back on normally where President Trump has still
- 12:01Speaker 4: not given a nationwide address, which I know you want
- 12:04Speaker 4: him to do, Mary Catherine. He has been answering a
- 12:07Speaker 4: lot of media questions. Basically, any media member that calls
- 12:11Speaker 4: him up and asks him questions is getting some sort
- 12:15Speaker 4: of answer from him.
- 12:17Speaker 2: But Pete Hegseth did take to.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Sixty Minutes over the weekend and he had some really
- 12:23Speaker 4: good clips. I really I'm becoming a Pete hegg set
- 12:26Speaker 4: super fan. I don't know what to tell you. I
- 12:28Speaker 4: really am enjoying him as our you know, defense I
- 12:34Speaker 4: can't say defense secretary anymore.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Chief, no.
- 12:38Speaker 2: War secretary. It's just it's a mouthful.
- 12:40Speaker 4: But fine, fine for my Pete hegsett super fandom, I'll
- 12:45Speaker 4: do that.
- 12:47Speaker 2: We have a clip of him on.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Sixty Minutes basically saying what we say all the time.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Trump leaves all options on the table always.
- 12:57Speaker 5: Is it possible to achieve the objectives President Trump is
- 13:00Speaker 5: set before you. If we don't locate and obtain and
- 13:05Speaker 5: extract the highly enriched urraining.
- 13:07Speaker 6: There's a lot of different ways we can get after that.
- 13:09Speaker 6: They've used a conventional umbrella of missiles that was growing
- 13:13Speaker 6: every single day their production capacity to try to cover
- 13:16Speaker 6: over their nuclear blackmail ambitions. As far as how you
- 13:20Speaker 6: get at that nuclear option, we'll make sure that their
- 13:23Speaker 6: nuclear ambitions are never achieved.
- 13:25Speaker 5: Will we take it out ourselves?
- 13:26Speaker 6: Well, I would never tell you or anybody else what
- 13:28Speaker 6: our options are. See, that's another thing people keep asking question,
- 13:32Speaker 6: very fair question. People ask boots on the ground, No,
- 13:35Speaker 6: boots on the ground. Four weeks, two weeks, six weeks,
- 13:38Speaker 6: go in, go in. President Trump knows, I know. You
- 13:42Speaker 6: don't tell the enemy, you don't tell the press, you
- 13:45Speaker 6: don't tell anybody what your limits would be on an operation.
- 13:49Speaker 6: We're willing to go as far as we need to
- 13:50Speaker 6: in order to be successful.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Do we have any overt or covert forces inside or run?
- 13:56Speaker 6: Now, I wouldn't tell you that if we did.
- 14:02Speaker 5: The only reason I asked is earlier this week you
- 14:03Speaker 5: said no. Is that still the answer, Yeah, that's still
- 14:07Speaker 5: the answer. But we reserve the right.
- 14:10Speaker 6: We would be completely unwise if we did not reserve
- 14:13Speaker 6: the right to take any particular option, whether it included
- 14:16Speaker 6: boots on the ground or no boots on the ground.
- 14:19Speaker 4: I feel like that was a correction because of Trump.
- 14:21Speaker 4: He's like, do not tell them anything, do not say
- 14:23Speaker 4: we do not have covert forces in Iran, We do
- 14:27Speaker 4: not give any information out. And look, whatever else you
- 14:30Speaker 4: think of Trump, the fact that he leaves every option
- 14:32Speaker 4: on the table makes certain regimes afraid.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And that's a good thing.
- 14:37Speaker 5: No.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And also I do feel like this is a media
- 14:40Speaker 1: literacy thing that perhaps people who cover the president should
- 14:43Speaker 1: have noticed by mount now, which is that every time
- 14:46Speaker 1: you ask him, it does not matter how outlandish is right.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Right, If you ask him, are.
- 14:51Speaker 1: We going to transport the elephants that were retired from
- 14:55Speaker 1: the Ringling Brothers could be circus, maybe Iran to do
- 15:00Speaker 1: our bidding in this ground war, he would be like,
- 15:04Speaker 1: could be right, I'm not going to take it.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Off the table. Like, it's just it doesn't indicate his willingness.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Now, you can be frustrated with that because you want
- 15:13Speaker 1: more straightforward information, fine, but let us let us not
- 15:16Speaker 1: assume that not ruling out means a willingness to do.
- 15:20Speaker 2: That's exactly right.
- 15:21Speaker 4: And I think that Phixath has become the spokesperson for
- 15:26Speaker 4: that message of we will do whatever we need to
- 15:30Speaker 4: do to achieve our objectives, and we won't be.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Telling the media about it. They won't be telling democrats
- 15:35Speaker 2: in Congress about it. So you know, I like it.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I'm in Yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Well, like again, I think you can have concerns about
- 15:45Speaker 1: how seriously are we taking next steps here?
- 15:48Speaker 3: What does that look like? What can this transition to?
- 15:51Speaker 1: Oh that's fair game, but like should I do feel
- 15:53Speaker 1: like that the part where you're just why isn't the
- 15:55Speaker 1: president briefing us regularly on actual tactics?
- 15:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we know why. Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Oh.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I would also add that I think it's an interesting
- 16:06Speaker 1: twist of global relations that the Ukrainians are now like, hey,
- 16:12Speaker 1: we have technology to help with these Iranian the Iranian technology,
- 16:17Speaker 1: the drone technology that we've been fighting against because obviously
- 16:21Speaker 1: the Iranians support Russia and that's part of the access
- 16:25Speaker 1: of our enemies, and so now they are able to
- 16:27Speaker 1: say we can help you guys defend against these for
- 16:30Speaker 1: less money, which is a nice little coming together.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a lot of things are changing, and yeah,
- 16:40Speaker 4: I'm optimistic.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Look, I get the argument that nobody asks Congress anymore
- 16:46Speaker 4: about going to war.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I do.
- 16:47Speaker 4: I you know, I would have in the last twenty
- 16:50Speaker 4: years have enjoyed Congress playing some role in making those decisions.
- 16:55Speaker 4: But that's not what we have, and that's not what
- 16:57Speaker 4: we've had for a while. We have this great and
- 17:00Speaker 4: Adam Schiff was on the Bill Maher show, and Bill
- 17:03Speaker 4: Maher did this to him.
- 17:04Speaker 7: Let's roll that this statement from the administration the president
- 17:08Speaker 7: had the constitutional authority to direct the use of military
- 17:11Speaker 7: force because he could reasonably determine that such use of
- 17:14Speaker 7: force was in the national interest. That's too vague for you.
- 17:18Speaker 7: Totally vague, okay, because that's from Obama.
- 17:22Speaker 8: About Libya, Well, Obama made the argument initially that he
- 17:26Speaker 8: could go into Syria without an authorisation. I and many
- 17:29Speaker 8: others pushed back on that argument. Ultimately, he did not
- 17:32Speaker 8: go forward with going after Assad, even though Aside was
- 17:36Speaker 8: gassing his own people, because he thought he might lose
- 17:38Speaker 8: the vote in Congress. But I respect the fact that
- 17:42Speaker 8: that was important to him, and the fact that he
- 17:46Speaker 8: did not have the support of Congress meant that we
- 17:48Speaker 8: weren't going to go forward. We are unquestionably at war now.
- 17:53Speaker 8: The Founders made an extraordinary decision at the time, which
- 17:56Speaker 8: was not to give that power to the president, but
- 17:58Speaker 8: to give it to the Congress because as they worried.
- 18:00Speaker 8: I think, as Hamilton said, that a president would grow
- 18:02Speaker 8: too fond of making war after Venezuela, after the earlier
- 18:08Speaker 8: Iran conflict, after bombing Nigeria and Iraq and Syria, he's
- 18:15Speaker 8: grown too fond of this, and Congress done, as you're saying,
- 18:19Speaker 8: needs to step up.
- 18:20Speaker 4: He got him good, he really did, because you know,
- 18:23Speaker 4: he didn't care when Obama was pushing war in different places.
- 18:28Speaker 4: He only cares because it's Trump. And that's the That's
- 18:30Speaker 4: the other thing with taking this to Congress. It's like
- 18:33Speaker 4: they're just going to go on party lines, with the
- 18:35Speaker 4: exception of like rand Paul and it's it's basically pointless.
- 18:41Speaker 2: But I understand the urge.
- 18:44Speaker 4: I wish we could get back to a balance of
- 18:47Speaker 4: powers the way it's supposed to be, not holding my
- 18:50Speaker 4: breath for any of that.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Well, and like, by the way, can it. Mar's good
- 18:54Speaker 3: at this.
- 18:55Speaker 1: He's good at finding where people were people's partisanship and
- 18:59Speaker 1: try bibilism takes them into hypocrisy and airing it on
- 19:04Speaker 1: this show. He's done it in the past when it
- 19:06Speaker 1: comes to it was a couple of race related quotes
- 19:10Speaker 1: that he read and implied that they were Republicans and
- 19:14Speaker 1: then caught a bunch of people by saying, those are
- 19:16Speaker 1: actually Michelle Obama.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Saying those things.
- 19:19Speaker 3: So he's good at highlighting this stuff.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I think it's useful to highlight we have a problem
- 19:23Speaker 1: in coverage of Trump, which is that everybody in the.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Press is always willing to say this.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Is unprecedented, and it's actually quite precedented. Whatever the thing
- 19:34Speaker 1: is in this case in Libya, I believe there were
- 19:37Speaker 1: months of bombings, and you're right, shiftedn't care shifts. Media
- 19:41Speaker 1: training is good enough that he just switches to another
- 19:44Speaker 1: conflict entirely right here and breezes right by the actual question.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think it's.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Telling about this era that the person who used to
- 19:55Speaker 1: do this to politicians is Tim Russer, the head of
- 20:00Speaker 1: the host of a Sunday show Meet the Press, and
- 20:03Speaker 1: he was sort of famed bringing up old tape and saying, Okay, well,
- 20:06Speaker 1: what do you have to say to this now it's
- 20:09Speaker 1: an HBO political show host. Yeah, the Sunday Show hosts
- 20:14Speaker 1: sort of take a pass on this kind of thing
- 20:16Speaker 1: most of the time.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and appreciate him for doing it.
- 20:20Speaker 1: And I don't mind when our side gets caught either,
- 20:22Speaker 1: like creating these Yeah, and yeah, he had Shift dead
- 20:28Speaker 1: to rights there.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, that's a really good point. The Sunday shows.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Used to be a serious discussion and they haven't been
- 20:36Speaker 4: in so so long. And what we talk about on
- 20:38Speaker 4: the show a lot is that Democrat privilege. The reason
- 20:40Speaker 4: that Shift was surprised by that, and the reason that
- 20:44Speaker 4: he didn't expect it, even though again he did cover
- 20:46Speaker 4: great was because he didn't never get to ask difficult questions.
- 20:51Speaker 4: He never has to gets challenged, he doesn't go on programs.
- 20:54Speaker 4: But that might be the case. It's just he gets
- 20:57Speaker 4: to say whatever he wants however he wants to. And
- 21:01Speaker 4: you know, I think that there's some level of damage
- 21:04Speaker 4: that happens. I met somebody recently who said that they
- 21:07Speaker 4: really flipped politically when they kept Adam Schiff kept saying
- 21:11Speaker 4: he's going to have the goods on Russia Gate. Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 4: he's gonna have the smoking gun like any minute, And
- 21:17Speaker 4: he was like, and he never had it, and that
- 21:19Speaker 4: made him like rethink everything. So, you know, even even
- 21:23Speaker 4: if you're watching friendly media, you might catch on to
- 21:26Speaker 4: the fact that Adam Shift doesn't have it.
- 21:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Well, and Shift was a double betrayal because it wasn't
- 21:32Speaker 1: just I have the I have a smoking gun. I
- 21:34Speaker 1: swear wank wank. He was by doing so, misusing his
- 21:39Speaker 1: own clearances, because what he was saying is I've seen
- 21:45Speaker 1: what's behind closed doors, and I am assuring you because
- 21:48Speaker 1: of my clearance, you can't know about it, but I
- 21:51Speaker 1: know what's right there.
- 21:53Speaker 3: And it was just a lie. It was just a lie.
- 21:55Speaker 3: And to the extent that there was anything there, it was.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Created by Democratic allies and paid.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Four So you know these people are full of it.
- 22:05Speaker 4: All right, We'll take a short break and comrade back
- 22:08Speaker 4: to maybe Democrats being sick of everything being politicized.
- 22:11Speaker 2: We'll see be right back, all.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Right, guys.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Well, Jesse Jackson passed away and his funeral was held
- 22:25Speaker 1: on I believe Friday, his homegoing services, and despite I
- 22:30Speaker 1: think some please did it not become a political rally,
- 22:36Speaker 1: It most certainly did in the hands of very prominent
- 22:40Speaker 1: people who spoke, including.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Former President Obama, former President Biden.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I believe Kamala Harris also spoke, and I think Clinton
- 22:48Speaker 1: was there as well, and a lot of their comments
- 22:51Speaker 1: ended up being not about Jesse Jackson, but about the
- 22:55Speaker 1: only person any of them think about.
- 22:57Speaker 4: It lives Donald Tree their head.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, I.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Have my own thoughts on this.
- 23:04Speaker 1: This, of course, has had There's a history of funerals
- 23:07Speaker 1: being turned into political moments and not going so great.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Particularly the Paul Wellstone funeral is the most famous instance
- 23:16Speaker 1: of this, and it really created a backlash against Democrats.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I'm not sure that this one will because Democrats are
- 23:21Speaker 1: used to everything being so politicized.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Yeh.
- 23:24Speaker 1: But there was some backlash from a very important person
- 23:27Speaker 1: in this process, and that is Jesse Jackson Junior, the
- 23:31Speaker 1: son of Jesse Jackson, who had this to say about
- 23:35Speaker 1: that service and how it went down.
- 23:37Speaker 9: I listened for several hours of three United States presidents
- 23:47Speaker 9: who do not know Jesse Jackson. He maintained a tense
- 23:57Speaker 9: relationship with the political order, not because the presidents were
- 24:04Speaker 9: white or black, but the demands of our message, the
- 24:10Speaker 9: demands of speaking for the least of these, those who
- 24:13Speaker 9: were disinherited, the damned, the dispossessed, the disrespected, demanded not
- 24:21Speaker 9: democratic or Republican solutions, but demanded a consistent, prophetic voice
- 24:33Speaker 9: that at no point in time ever sold us out
- 24:36Speaker 9: as a people, and it speaks volumes about who the
- 24:42Speaker 9: Reverend Jesse Jackson.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Was.
- 24:47Speaker 9: Our message has already been delivered today. I can see
- 24:51Speaker 9: it all over my mother's face. Rise, Jesse, Rise, Give
- 24:58Speaker 9: Jonathan Jackson an. They're a great round of applause for
- 25:02Speaker 9: delivering our family message to the world.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Good for him.
- 25:08Speaker 4: I don't understand how other funerals have gotten turned into
- 25:12Speaker 4: such political rallies, and I find it disturbing, especially when
- 25:17Speaker 4: the politicians largely don't know the person that has died.
- 25:22Speaker 4: It's so obvious and it's so calculated that I get
- 25:27Speaker 4: why he'd be upset and I would be too, Yeah, because.
- 25:31Speaker 3: The focus should be on the person. And I get it.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Whenever it's a political person, you're going to have a
- 25:37Speaker 1: bunch of political figures there who have issues, who have
- 25:40Speaker 1: problems avoiding the temptation of making everything political, and.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Some of that is within bounds.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I just think, of course, the standard is completely differently
- 25:51Speaker 1: applied during Charlie Kirk's memorial service, which I thought did
- 25:55Speaker 1: a really nice job, did have political figures, but really
- 25:58Speaker 1: kept it focused on his faith, his mission and him
- 26:02Speaker 1: as opposed to like overwhelmingly doing modern political rhetorical jaunts.
- 26:10Speaker 1: It was nonetheless criticized for that, and then you have
- 26:14Speaker 1: this stuff. It's very very blatant, and it's like, yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 1: but this is for good. It is for good, right, Yeah,
- 26:19Speaker 1: Charlie kirkstuff, that's for inchy stuff. But this is for
- 26:21Speaker 1: good stuff. And that's really the standard, and that shouldn't
- 26:24Speaker 1: be the standard when you're honoring someone who has passed away.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Yeah. It's actually very reminiscent of our first topic and
- 26:31Speaker 4: the way that the media massages the news to make
- 26:35Speaker 4: the left look better than they are, and you know,
- 26:37Speaker 4: frequently does the exact opposite to the right, and we're
- 26:40Speaker 4: supposed to just take it. Good for Jesse Jackson Junior
- 26:44Speaker 4: for saying something about it. It's actually quite brave, because
- 26:48Speaker 4: if the family does have any political ambitions, it is
- 26:51Speaker 4: still Obama running the show over there. And taking kind
- 26:55Speaker 4: of that direct hit and saying that Jesse Jackson had
- 26:58Speaker 4: problems with the political establishment.
- 26:59Speaker 2: That could only mean Obama. Who else on.
- 27:02Speaker 4: That squad is the political establishment? At this point, it
- 27:05Speaker 4: was braver than it seemed. Yeah, all right, well, thank
