- 0:00You're listening to Bantor with the Boys, talking all things sports.
- 0:08From betting and brawls, Superball to Stanley Cup Finals.
- 0:13Get laced up.
- 0:14It's time for Bantor with the Boys.
- 0:31What's up everybody?
- 0:32Welcome back to Bantor with the Boys.
- 0:34The Super Bowl has come, the Super Bowl has gone.
- 0:38What a game it was.
- 0:40As always, got my main man Smelty with me today.
- 0:42How we doing?
- 0:43How we feeling?
- 0:44I mean to be honest, I'm feeling pretty positive because I didn't end up getting selected for
- 0:49this five to seven day jury trial yesterday.
- 0:53I'm in my jury duty window or whatever.
- 0:56So pretty glad I don't have to work, it's kind of picking up.
- 1:00So glad I don't have to miss that for a bit.
- 1:02Yeah, that's good.
- 1:03Dude, jury duty does not sound like a good time.
- 1:05Dude, that's a nice juicy case, you know.
- 1:07He reminded me of like, and don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming to be a veteran.
- 1:11I was only in the military for 30 days.
- 1:14So like it kind of reminds me of like the military's like, hurry up and wait, dude.
- 1:18It was like, let's get over here.
- 1:20And then you just sat, dude, it was my first time for jury duty.
- 1:24But man, is it boring?
- 1:25Yeah, I can imagine unless you're probably like actually on a trial or something, you
- 1:30know.
- 1:31Yeah, but even still like they're just sitting there and deliberating for hours.
- 1:34Man, but let's get back to what we're here to talk about.
- 1:37We have Super Bowl 58.
- 1:39What a game it was.
- 1:41As we all know, Kansas City came into this game as a two and a half point underdog.
- 1:46And they won the game.
- 1:48Game went to overtime.
- 1:49It was such a good just hard fought game defensive battle in the first half.
- 1:53Then the offense has started opening up a little bit.
- 1:56And what a game we had, man.
- 1:57What are your just initial like reactions to the game itself?
- 2:01I mean, I'm not surprised would be my initial reaction.
- 2:04Like it went exactly kind of how I don't know.
- 2:07I thought I mean, there's a couple things, obviously, that'll stick out that are more
- 2:13surprising as others like McCaffrey fumble like, whoa, that usually is not not a thing
- 2:19this season, at least, you know, like that was that was momentum changer.
- 2:23But Mahomes doing what he does.
- 2:26I mean, that's not surprising.
- 2:27The pick.
- 2:28What was it?
- 2:29It said something like it was his first interception in like two hundred and twenty or forty some
- 2:35throws in the playoffs specifically like.
- 2:38Wow.
- 2:39It was just an insane number.
- 2:40Yeah, it was it was absurd.
- 2:42And I mean, we saw I would say we didn't really see anything bad from Brock Purdy.
- 2:47So like, I don't know, the game really went as I thought it was more defensive than I
- 2:50thought.
- 2:51I would say that I thought it would be a little bit more fireworky if that's a word, you know,
- 2:57offensively.
- 2:58Yeah, I would agree.
- 2:59I really do think it was it would have been as well, you know, more defense than I thought.
- 3:03But at the end of the day, you had two of the top defenses in the league in the Super
- 3:06Bowl.
- 3:07So but you also had to, you know, hottest and best offenses.
- 3:12Now, the Chiefs offense in the regular season.
- 3:14I'd say that's a good time for it.
- 3:17Yeah.
- 3:18Yeah.
- 3:19So but I'm just glad we got a close hard fought game.
- 3:21You know, a lot of people are complaining that the first half wasn't exciting, but that's
- 3:25because you don't like true football.
- 3:26Yeah, I was just about to say, obviously, you don't like the game of football.
- 3:29You don't watch football.
- 3:30You know, that that was that first half was just an insane defensive battle.
- 3:36They had each other's number early on on the defensive side of the ball.
- 3:39Like they could nobody could really do much.
- 3:42I mean, yes, and Fran was up 10-3, but it still wasn't they didn't feel in control of
- 3:47the game at that point.
- 3:48No, no, they sure didn't.
- 3:50And this game was like is going to be was going to be one and ended up being won by,
- 3:54you know, halftime adjustments.
- 3:56So it's and the whole thing was like people are aren't excited about good old fashioned
- 4:01football is I think it was so much sports betting out there now.
- 4:05People have these parlays.
- 4:06They need this guy to hit the over whatever, whatever, whatever it is that it just kind
- 4:10of like it it kind of blinds watching the game to a certain degree and just enjoying
- 4:16the game of football.
- 4:17Right.
- 4:18You know, that's it's one thing that in Minnesota with it out being we're with it not being
- 4:21legal.
- 4:22You know, it's like you don't get that temptation and, you know, you just get to sit there and
- 4:26enjoy the game of football.
- 4:27Yeah.
- 4:28But yeah, no, for real.
- 4:31And that that was what it was.
- 4:34It gave us a nice classic game.
- 4:35And yet too much of people's dismay that we're looking for those parlays.
- 4:41So we've already talked defensively how how great it was.
- 4:46We've touched offensively.
- 4:47I'm sure there's more to be had there.
- 4:48But what about these kickers, dude?
- 4:50These kickers played a crucial role in the game.
- 4:54And I'm not saying we should sit here and debate for 30 minutes about kickers, you know,
- 5:00but like that just goes.
- 5:02They needed everybody.
- 5:03The punters to do the first half punts.
- 5:06Brian, you're saying I was actually getting like I can't believe I'm about to say this,
- 5:13but I was like getting amped for the punts.
- 5:14I was like, dude, wow.
- 5:16And like, Kev actually are our resident non football knowledge in general.
- 5:23Not saying that we have all the knowledge, but non football knowledge in general was
- 5:26getting so confused why they weren't calling for a fair catch or just letting it go into
- 5:31the end zone, at least or attempt to let it go at the five.
- 5:34You know, yeah, that was insane to me that I get it.
- 5:37You're in the Super Bowl.
- 5:38You want to make that play.
- 5:39You look at Cadarius Tony last year.
- 5:42You know, it can change the game.
- 5:43But like you're also putting it putting yourself and your team at risk.
- 5:47And it's got to be what it is, an adrenaline thing or whatever.
- 5:50So you're not quite thinking like, no, I'm I'm going to do something about this game
- 5:55right here right now and then either get cracked or, you know, whatever it may be.
- 6:00But that like once you start pointing that out, I was like, dude, they are literally
- 6:04on every punt.
- 6:06Nobody's fair catching this ball, dude.
- 6:07Like it is all gas.
- 6:08No breaks right.
- 6:09Yeah, it was insane.
- 6:10It was insane.
- 6:11And you know what's crazy?
- 6:12I didn't even notice this, but I just looked at it.
- 6:14Both punters had five punts for two hundred and fifty four yards, which is an average
- 6:20of 50.8.
- 6:21That's insane.
- 6:23That is wild.
- 6:25That is just a special teams game.
- 6:26I mean, you're watching now ski three inside the 20 and for Townsend to inside the 20.
- 6:32I mean, that's a long 62.
- 6:34But that first half was nuts.
- 6:36Defensively so fun.
- 6:37Special teams.
- 6:38You saw the two field goals like special teams played a big role.
- 6:42And that's why, like when some players like, no, I'm above special teams.
- 6:46No, dude, it could make the difference.
- 6:48And we saw it in this game.
- 6:49Yeah.
- 6:50I mean, you have seven field goals.
- 6:52All seven were made.
- 6:54And like it was the special teams won this game.
- 6:57I mean, they kept both teams in the game, but in the end of the day, you know, with
- 7:01the chiefs, well, I guess they scored a touchdown.
- 7:04But you had the two longest kicks of all time in a Super Bowl in this game.
- 7:07It was broken by Moody and then Buckeye broke it.
- 7:11And it was fifty five and fifty seven yards.
- 7:12They weren't, you know, those are bombs.
- 7:16And then what turned out being a very, very costly play is that Jake Moody blocked extra
- 7:20point.
- 7:21I mean, it yes.
- 7:22Yes, it does.
- 7:24At that moment in time.
- 7:25Yes, for sure.
- 7:26It changes what Kansas City has to do to get that field goal to get it to overtime, too.
- 7:30And then let's talk about the overtime.
- 7:32That was that was pretty wild.
- 7:35So let's just like go back through it.
- 7:37The Niners won the toss, right?
- 7:39They elected to receive.
- 7:41No, yes, yes, they did.
- 7:43They elected to receive but ended up having to kick a field goal.
- 7:46Yep.
- 7:47And then the chiefs go down and then score the touchdown.
- 7:51Do they kick field?
- 7:52I can't remember.
- 7:53Scored.
- 7:54They did score the touchdown.
- 7:55OK, yeah.
- 7:56So everybody's like freaking out the Niners because they should have kicked first or
- 8:00chose to kick.
- 8:01How do you feel about that?
- 8:02I don't know.
- 8:03I mean, it's a it's a whole new strategy because it's new rules.
- 8:07Thank you, Josh Allen.
- 8:09But it's just what do you what do you do?
- 8:12So Shanahan's Shanahan's thought was they like they get a score third.
- 8:17So the third possession, if both teams score.
- 8:21Next score wins.
- 8:23So it's sudden death as soon as both if both teams were to go down and kick both kick a
- 8:26field goal or both kick a touchdown.
- 8:27Right.
- 8:28But just yeah, just to clarify, for the first drive, it is touchdown.
- 8:32Like if the Niners scored a touchdown, the chiefs still would have had a chance to go
- 8:34score a touchdown.
- 8:35Correct.
- 8:36Right.
- 8:37Correct.
- 8:38So it all depends on what strategy you want to be with.
- 8:40Like Shanahan's reasoning makes sense because you turn it in.
- 8:44He come out to say so he came out and said that he wanted the ball third.
- 8:47Oh, yeah.
- 8:48You said that.
- 8:49Yeah.
- 8:50So he wanted the ball third.
- 8:51So I mean, it makes sense to a certain degree.
- 8:54But at the same time, like Andy Reid and like some of the chiefs have come out and said
- 8:57they've been talking about this strategy for a very long time for a while.
- 9:01They had a whole presentation in front of them about overtime, whereas some of the Niner
- 9:06players never really didn't know that there are any changes about some of these rules.
- 9:11That's insane.
- 9:12For one, like that's absolutely insane that that's not brought to attention.
- 9:15You as a player should realize that for one.
- 9:17But two, it has to as an organization, you have to make that a focal point.
- 9:19You would think it would at least at least come up before the Super Bowl.
- 9:24Exactly.
- 9:25You're going over every single scenario.
- 9:27I would imagine we're not in the NFL war rooms.
- 9:29Blah, blah, blah.
- 9:30You know, prior to the games, but like their lead up to the games.
- 9:33So like you would think that would come up as a point, a topic, something to mention,
- 9:39you know?
- 9:40Yeah, it's one would think it would be discussed.
- 9:43And then Andy Reid.
- 9:44So it was like I guess this hasn't been necessarily confirmed, but a couple of the chiefs have
- 9:48come out and said that if the Niners would have scored a touchdown, if the chiefs would
- 9:52have scored, they would have gone for two.
- 9:53Oh, I did hear that.
- 9:55I heard a rumbling of that, which is another point to think about.
- 9:59Like if you have all the momentum anyway, you just tied it up, why not just end the
- 10:04thing?
- 10:05That's what I so if I'm a coach, if I'm a coach, that's what I'm doing.
- 10:08I'm getting the ball second because I know it's not sudden death.
- 10:10Sure.
- 10:11Right.
- 10:12Getting the ball second.
- 10:13And then I would be going for two in that case.
- 10:14Sure.
- 10:15So you're not in the mindset of Shanahan then?
- 10:17No.
- 10:18You don't like the idea of which I guess I you know, if they want to go for two, yeah,
- 10:22then it's just over.
- 10:23Either way.
- 10:24Exactly.
- 10:25Either way.
- 10:26I can respect Shanahan's reasoning, though, the whole like I get it third, no matter what,
- 10:32if they score.
- 10:33Well, not no matter what.
- 10:34Obviously, if there's a two point conversion made, then it's over.
- 10:37But there's a decent chance that you would get it depending on who that other coach on
- 10:41the other side of field is.
- 10:42If it's Dan Campbell, you might not get that chance to go back on offense.
- 10:46And it's like, I mean, at the same time, too.
- 10:48So like you get the ball first, let's say you go put it to the East Coast score a touchdown,
- 10:52put the hand put all the pressures on on the defense and you have a pretty good defense.
- 10:56That's where like all these scenarios matter.
- 10:58And it's about all this, though, before the going into it.
- 11:02You have a game plan.
- 11:03Maybe since they didn't talk about OT, they're just like, uh, yeah, you know.
- 11:08Yeah, man.
- 11:09And they won the toss like it's wild.
- 11:11And I mean, at the end of the day, Niners go down, score a touchdown.
- 11:15You get the ball first, score a touchdown.
- 11:17So it's not like it's not that decision lost you the game.
- 11:21Who's to say if the Chiefs would have gone and scored a touchdown, you're going to match
- 11:23that touchdown.
- 11:25You know, so it's like it's all hearsay at this point.
- 11:27You know, we can talk about it after the fact.
- 11:29None of us will ever be in the situation to make that decision.
- 11:32And again, it's like, so if Shanahan gets the ball second, the Chiefs go down and score
- 11:37a touchdown.
- 11:38Shanahan loses.
- 11:39They don't score it.
- 11:40Like the Niners don't score a touchdown then.
- 11:43Like assuming then is he to blame for knocking the ball first?
- 11:47Right.
- 11:48It just always seems like there's always going to be something and it's always and it's always
- 11:52hindsight.
- 11:53And I think that's the role right now.
- 11:56Everybody's saying how much the Niners are choke artists and now because of the late
- 11:58leads they've given up in the Super Bowls.
- 12:00That's kind of I mean, I don't know, dude, he proves you every year, you know, producing
- 12:06a decent game.
- 12:07But like you keep letting it up late.
- 12:10Yeah, can't win the big game.
- 12:11Can't win the big game.
- 12:13But yeah, so let's get back to more, I guess, of the game itself.
- 12:18You know, we had some standout performances here, even with the score not as high as some
- 12:25people were to think.
- 12:26I mean, saying that we still had a 25-22 game.
- 12:28So that would be what you didn't feel like it was going to even get that high for a while.
- 12:34But I mean, you had Patty Mahomes going for three hundred and thirty three yards.
- 12:38I mean, that's not a surprise.
- 12:39Yeah, thirty four for thirty for forty six to, you know, the completion percentage was
- 12:44high.
- 12:45But you had a big 22 yard run late to put him, you know, in position to keep controlling
- 12:50the game at that point.
- 12:51Like Mahomes is just proven why he why he got the Super Bowl MVP again.
- 12:57Right.
- 12:58That's his third one in three Super Bowls.
- 13:00Yep.
- 13:01That's their third Super Bowl in five years.
- 13:02Was it or six?
- 13:06I want to lean towards six.
- 13:07No, either way, it's five.
- 13:09So the Rams have won one.
- 13:11The Bucks have lost one in the Rams.
- 13:13So who is one so to eat again, we're not good at math.
- 13:21But even so, they've now really like cemented themselves as a as a dynasty.
- 13:28You know, we've we were already talking about it.
- 13:30The Patriots have done it before.
- 13:32You see in other sports, you know, I don't know, the Chicago Blackhawks in hockey, they
- 13:35were a dynasty.
- 13:36You win so many championships within those couple of years.
- 13:38The Chicago Bulls, another dynasty, you know, the chiefs have now cemented themselves
- 13:43as being being that dynasty, that new, as I dare say, at the new Patriots of this this
- 13:50era right now, this decade we're in.
- 13:52Yeah, it's it's wild.
- 13:54They're 100 percent.
- 13:55I mean, so it is the last five years.
- 13:57So my home is so they three to five, been to four.
- 14:02Lost to Tom Brady.
- 14:03So it's like so what are you going to do about that?
- 14:05Right.
- 14:06But in the six seasons, he's been a starter.
- 14:07He's been in the AFC championship game every six years.
- 14:10Yeah.
- 14:11So I mean, you're in an AFC championship game the first six years of your career.
- 14:15You and there's doesn't appear to be stopping or slowing down in any way, shape or form,
- 14:20regardless of who's around him.
- 14:22How can you not put him in that?
- 14:26It's a discussion, right?
- 14:28He's not anywhere close to being there.
- 14:30Three versus seven, right?
- 14:31He's not even halfway there.
- 14:33No, but there's something to be said on where he is right now.
- 14:36Correct.
- 14:37He's on a trusset.
- 14:38And how old is Mahomes even?
- 14:39Is he like 28?
- 14:40I think he's 28.
- 14:41Yeah, I don't know.
- 14:42That's why I'm gravitating towards 20 high 20s.
- 14:4528.
- 14:4628.
- 14:47And then he's had a couple league MVPs to any at least two as well.
- 14:52I mean, he's just he's racking it up, dude.
- 14:56There's chances of a three pete.
- 14:59What are the chances is that defense coming back?
- 15:01All of them is Chris Jones coming back.
- 15:06Chris Jones.
- 15:07Do you I think Chris Jones has to debate how much are you going to chase the bag or how
- 15:11much are you going to want to stay with the Chiefs and continue your dynasty?
- 15:14He has three rings.
- 15:15What more does he has to prove as an individual player?
- 15:17If I'm him, I'm going to get paid.
- 15:19If you if you I would at least sign one more year.
- 15:22Try for that three pete.
- 15:24You have to.
- 15:25Yeah, I don't mean was.
- 15:26So let's look at Chris Jones as age.
- 15:27He's getting he's not a young pup anymore.
- 15:29I know he's not young.
- 15:30I know he's not young.
- 15:32He's 29.
- 15:33So but think of this, though.
- 15:35So let's say he has one more year.
- 15:37He doesn't produce at the level he produced this year.
- 15:39No, no, you're sure.
- 15:40And then he gets a maybe a two year deal at a half to three quarters.
- 15:44Somebody will sign him right now for a four year deal.
- 15:48Even three years.
- 15:49The Chiefs don't have that kind of money.
- 15:51But rumor has it that Mahomes is going to have restructured his contract to open up
- 15:54more camps, cap space, a la Tom Brady.
- 15:59I guess we have to see if he does that.
- 16:01Well, I mean, if you do that, you're just going to keep building championship teams.
- 16:04If you want, if that's your goal as Patrick Mahomes to catch Brady as a personal goal,
- 16:08maybe or whatever.
- 16:09And, you know, as more of a team oriented goal just to keep winning championships.
- 16:15Why not?
- 16:16I mean, exactly.
- 16:17Especially with like the amount of money he's making off the field and how he set up where
- 16:22oh, yeah, like you take a 10 million dollar pay cut per year.
- 16:25He's not.
- 16:26Yeah, he's losing 10 million because he's not going to get he's going to make the same
- 16:30off the field, whether he's going to get his NFL contract or not.
- 16:32But at the end of the day, how much money is too much money where you have to you put
- 16:35winning first and that little pay bump.
- 16:38Now I say little 10 million little, but it is for someone like Mahomes who has a half
- 16:42a billion dollar deal and has probably already made over 100 million off the field in his
- 16:46career.
- 16:47Well, and that's just it.
- 16:48The off the field stuff.
- 16:49Who's not going to want the three time Super Bowl MVP and the face?
- 16:53Not even arguably.
- 16:54He is the face of the NFL right now.
- 16:56Not even a question for any sort of endorsement.
- 17:00And on top of that, as long as you can afford them, because the line is going to be long
- 17:03to even get them in the door.
- 17:05100 percent.
- 17:06So like he can name his price to any of these big guys that he can name his price and they're
- 17:10going to pay that.
- 17:11Yeah, without even question.
- 17:13And on top of that wife, he's making money, too.
- 17:15Right, right.
- 17:17So that's why it's like it's it's a no brainer just to make in 10 million a year.
- 17:21No, but but at the end of the day, like he's Padma Holmes is 100 percent a family man first.
- 17:28Like nobody can question that.
- 17:29I mean, he's probably God first.
- 17:31I would only imagine.
- 17:32But at the end of the day, like he's going to put his family before anything.
- 17:36And like and at the same time, taking that Paca yet is that hurt your family's long run
- 17:40in a sense?
- 17:41Yeah, because that's a lot of money.
- 17:42And I'm only I'm assuming it's 10 mil.
- 17:43It's probably not that even five mil would probably do wonders in terms of restructuring
- 17:47of a cap.
- 17:48But at the end of the day, when when you're slated to make, I don't know, 40, 50 mil on
- 17:53the field, you go down to 38 and you're still making 10 to 20 off the field.
- 18:00Like you're doing you're set up.
- 18:01You're doing all right.
- 18:02You're doing all right.
- 18:03So it's like it's more of a like, why wouldn't you then?
- 18:07Just why wouldn't you?
- 18:09What's his argument for that other than trying to set up your family even more?
- 18:12But like you could definitely make the argument that if you, you know, do do with it right,
- 18:19that didn't make sense.
- 18:20If you if you use the money appropriately and put it move it appropriately, I don't
- 18:26know.
- 18:27I don't have millions, but like move it appropriately like you're going to set them up for life.
- 18:31Where are you at?
- 18:32Where are you at right now?
- 18:33Yeah, I mean, he could retire right now and they're not sweating for the rest of their
- 18:36lives.
- 18:37But, you know, it's going to be interesting.
- 18:40Chris Jones, where he lands is going to be interesting.
- 18:42He's a big piece of that defense.
- 18:44Really, really big piece of that defense.
- 18:47And I just don't see the Chief slowing down, unfortunately, like as much as I want to see
- 18:51some diversity in the NFL in terms of winning and whatnot.
- 18:54The Bills or Ravens need to step up if anybody else is going to come out of the AFC.
- 18:59And the Bengals.
- 19:00Yeah, and the Bengals with a healthy Joe Burrow.
- 19:02The Bengals are definitely in that in that talk to but it's going to be one of those
- 19:06three right now that could derail the three Pete.
- 19:09But I mean, they're going to come in with a lot of momentum.
- 19:12And if they can get Chris Jones to say if they can get everybody else, I don't even
- 19:15know who's going to be free agents.
- 19:17But if they can get the team to return, why not?
- 19:20Why not the Chiefs again?
- 19:21Yeah, for real.
- 19:22I mean, you can't bet against them at this point.
- 19:24They're already the early favorites.
- 19:25So we're 205 days away from the NFL season starting.
- 19:28The early favorites mean nothing.
- 19:29Are they really?
- 19:30Yeah, it's a course.
- 19:31Depending on who you look at.
- 19:33I think the ESPN one had it was like Chiefs, Niners, Ravens, Lions, Bills.
- 19:40There's another team like the Packers were like seventh or eighth, I think.
- 19:46Really?
- 19:47Yeah.
- 19:48Yeah.
- 19:49But we'll look more into that.
- 19:50We'll talk a little bit more into that later.
- 19:51Let's wrap up the Super Bowl here.
- 19:53And I mean, Chiefs give them all the flowers dynasty in the making.
- 19:57Nothing more needs to really be said about that.
- 19:59It sucks for the Niners fans.
- 20:00You know, I was rooting for the Niners.
- 20:02Pops wanted to get one to see Pops get another super.
- 20:04They played well.
- 20:05It's not like they played bad.
- 20:07You know, you didn't necessarily lose the game.
- 20:09It was more the Chiefs won the game.
- 20:10Better team won that day.
- 20:11That's it.
- 20:12Better team won that day.
- 20:13Hard fought battle.
- 20:14And my pops also lived in San Francisco in the late 80s.
- 20:18So he's seen a little bit of success and he's going to be all right.
- 20:23Shout out Pops though.
- 20:27So let's move into some tent talk.
- 20:30911, what's your emergency?
- 20:34All right, we're going to start off with some injuries.
- 20:38So I mean, as we all saw a huge hit to the Niners defense, Dre Greenlaw coming onto the
- 20:43field, nothing like really that you would ever see happening.
- 20:48Terzis Achilles, Smelty.
- 20:49What the heck, dude?
- 20:50It's just it's unfortunate to see.
- 20:53And boy, do they need him the rest of the game.
- 20:55But like all he did was like, you know, he was just amped.
- 20:58Sorry for saying like so much.
- 20:59Wow.
- 21:00But he was just so amped, dude.
- 21:01He was just amped on his tippy toes, though.
- 21:03Right.
- 21:04He was bouncing on him.
- 21:05He was just amped to get in the game and then as soon boom in the game,
- 21:08there's pop, you know, it just it sucks.
- 21:12It sucks to see because man, could they have used him the rest of the game?
- 21:15Because I was like, what?
- 21:16Five, six minutes left in the second quarter.
- 21:18Yeah, it was in the second quarter.
- 21:20Yeah.
- 21:21I mean, what a huge hit to that defense.
- 21:23Him and Warner are I mean, unquestionably, there's one duo you can make an argument for,
- 21:28in my opinion, the best linebacker tandem in the league.
- 21:31The one duo would be Roe, Quinn, Smith and Patrick's Queen.
- 21:35But he's he's so vital to that defense.
- 21:37And man, did they miss him in the second half.
- 21:39Kelsey started just going off and he was just he was he was sorely sorely missed.
- 21:47And the news came out as well from that Niners front seven, Eric Armstead played through
- 21:51the pretty much the entire playoffs with a torn meniscus.
- 21:56He will obviously undergo surgery to repair that torn meniscus.
- 22:00But what a frickin baller, dude.
- 22:02And it doesn't surprise me that we didn't hear about it, right?
- 22:05Not to bring up hockey again.
- 22:06But did we know he was playing with it the whole playoffs before the playoffs?
- 22:10No, like not to bring up hockey again.
- 22:12But like that's another hockey thing, right?
- 22:13Like you don't you don't hear about injuries beforehand because now that's a weakness.
- 22:17Right.
- 22:18And like hopefully that it feels not quite as dirty.
- 22:20But like, hey, that dude's weak over there.
- 22:24That's dirty.
- 22:25But like, you know, you know that now.
- 22:26So, you know, you don't want anybody to know that.
- 22:29So it's just, you know, I was interested to see if anybody else would come out on either
- 22:33side.
- 22:34But like so far, it's the only thing I know I've heard of.
- 22:36But I thought that was wild.
- 22:38Torn meniscus that I mean, it would definitely be sore.
- 22:42I mean, just so he doesn't play a position that requires a lot of like like low end explosiveness
- 22:48per se.
- 22:49You know, whereas like he doesn't need that quick twitch ability in the open side to side
- 22:53per se.
- 22:54Right.
- 22:55He's more yourself player.
- 22:56But still like but that has to be still going to be.
- 22:58It's going to be sore, man.
- 23:00But like, you know, I'm sure there's different things and, you know, remedies that trainers
- 23:07can turn it all and give for players to play the game.
- 23:13But, you know, yeah, props to him.
- 23:18All the best.
- 23:19Yeah, props to him and all the best in the recovery.
- 23:21That's just it just goes to the the true grit of these NFL players that doesn't get talked
- 23:25about enough.
- 23:26Well, that's all we got for injuries this week.
- 23:29Let's just get into some coaching news then.
- 23:35As it was, I would I know I kind of expected it.
- 23:37I don't see him walking away at this point.
- 23:39Andy Reid did confirm he's going to return as the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs
- 23:42next year.
- 23:43Go for the three Pete.
- 23:44You have to.
- 23:45You have to at least try even if he was thinking about retirement, which I honestly don't think
- 23:49he is.
- 23:50He said they're at the top of the game right now, dude.
- 23:53Him and Mahomes together.
- 23:54I think when I don't know whatever comes first, like whenever they start falling apart or
- 24:00like I just don't see them him leaving anytime soon.
- 24:05How old is Andy Reid?
- 24:06You know, he's I mean, he's up there.
- 24:08He's up there.
- 24:09So he loves this ish, bro.
- 24:12I know.
- 24:13I know that he just let me tell you that he loves it.
- 24:16He's really good.
- 24:17You know, you've got to watch them fingers, bro.
- 24:21He just loves it too much to walk away at this point.
- 24:22And like you said, you can't walk away a defendant.
- 24:24It's a two time like reigning champion.
- 24:26You have to at least lose in the Super Bowl before you walk away.
- 24:28You just can't do that.
- 24:31And I don't know.
- 24:32I'm not allowed to see it.
- 24:33I'm a big Andy Reid guy, bro.
- 24:34How can you not love the fella loves his cheeseburgers, the Hawaiian shirts?
- 24:37He's just he's an all around.
- 24:38He's just a guy that you just can't not love.
- 24:40No, 100 percent.
- 24:41I loved when he was in Philly.
- 24:43I still didn't like the Eagles, but like, I don't know.
- 24:46I was young.
- 24:47It was a fun team to watch.
- 24:48There's a Donovan McNabb era year in there with Tio and stuff.
- 24:51I was just really for Brian Westbrook in the back.
- 24:54Westbrook, Brian Dawkins, one of the better safe.
- 24:57My favorite players.
- 24:58He was fun to watch because he'll let you know he was there.
- 25:01Oh, but yeah, he's 65.
- 25:04But yeah, I didn't see him retiring either, but I thought it was good.
- 25:09Just shut it down immediately because, you know, those questions are eventually going
- 25:13to start getting asked.
- 25:14And then just now now go to the beach, brother.
- 25:17Yeah, chill.
- 25:18Chill.
- 25:19Go enjoy some time and come back and win another Super Bowl, because you probably will.
- 25:24Might as well.
- 25:25Let's move on to the Cowboys.
- 25:26Then they did hire a defensive coordinator, someone close to you Vikings fans out there.
- 25:32Mike Zimmer back in the NFL is a defensive coordinator.
- 25:34I like to see it.
- 25:35I don't think he's going to be as productive as Dan Quinn, but all the talent in the world
- 25:40on that defense, man.
- 25:41No, I would agree with you.
- 25:43Not as productive, but at the same time, it's not a horrible hire.
- 25:47This is what Mike Zimmer does best.
- 25:49I don't think he's one of the better HCs.
- 25:53I could still see him getting one more job at some point.
- 25:57Not the super good team probably, but like, you know, this is this is what he knows.
- 26:02He knows defense.
- 26:03So I am curious to see how it pans out with the Cowboys.
- 26:07He's been there before.
- 26:09Could be a low key hire, but you know, medium, medium to low risk, I guess.
- 26:14Like you kind of already know what you're going to get from them.
- 26:16So let it ride, I guess.
- 26:18So I have to see him and McCarthy teaming up.
- 26:21That's interesting.
- 26:22I did not think about that until you just said that, bro.
- 26:25That's that's interesting, man.
- 26:26Yeah, it's like you said, he's a much better coordinator than a head coach.
- 26:29He doesn't have that just top down leadership that you're looking for in a head coach, but
- 26:33he's produced some darn good off defenses when he was in Cincinnati.
- 26:37And then I mean, the Vikings never really had a loaded talent for him defensively when
- 26:41he was the coach.
- 26:42So he put together some decent defenses.
- 26:44Oh, well, there's some good players, though, on those Vikings defenses.
- 26:50Every team has some good players.
- 26:52It's true.
- 26:53Santa Fe weren't loaded with talent, but he made it work.
- 26:55Yeah, he made it work.
- 26:56That's what I'm saying.
- 26:57Yeah, you're right.
- 26:58You made it work.
- 26:59You had Harrison Smith.
- 27:01Maybe Eric Hendricks for a little bit, you know, was one of the top middle.
- 27:06Don't shrug your shoulders at me.
- 27:07There's never a top five and like middle linebacker.
- 27:10Eric Hendricks.
- 27:11Yes, he was with the Vikings.
- 27:12I wouldn't say he was ever top.
- 27:13We'll get him to the end of the offseason.
- 27:14You're going to say better than like Luke.
- 27:15We'll table it.
- 27:16No.
- 27:17What?
- 27:18So, OK, well, no top five.
- 27:19We're going to keep the receipts.
- 27:21Sorry.
- 27:22I just like disgustingly just laughed at the mic.
- 27:27But God, all right.
- 27:28All right.
- 27:29Yeah, we will.
- 27:30Now I've totally forgot where I was going with the whole Mike Zimmerman.
- 27:33Oh, he's just not like as far as like head coaching material, he's just not quite like
- 27:37the right coach for today's players and the kids coming out of college right now.
- 27:42I think he's a perfect defensive coordinator, though.
- 27:44I think, you know, as a coordinator, it's still OK to be a little bit more old school,
- 27:50especially defensively.
- 27:51Probably.
- 27:52That's what I mean.
- 27:53Defensively, I think it's fine, like a little more on the abrasive side, you know, maybe
- 27:59as far as head coach, I just I just don't think that style will work anymore in in today.
- 28:06And that's whatever.
- 28:07OK, the game evolves just like anything.
- 28:09But I think defensively, yeah, I think I think it's an interesting game.
- 28:12It's a great game, but I think it's an interesting move to watch throughout the year.
- 28:15Yeah, it's going to be because they had they have so much talent.
- 28:18So if he can even maintain what Dan Quinn had, you know, like, I don't expect him to
- 28:22go in and like make it better.
- 28:24But even if he can maintain it, like they have enough talent.
- 28:26They're still fine.
- 28:27Yeah, exactly.
- 28:28Exactly.
- 28:29And then some smaller news.
- 28:30Clint Kubiak becomes the Saints offensive coordinator.
- 28:33Another Viking tie.
- 28:35Yay.
- 28:36All right.
- 28:37Where did that get you?
- 28:38All right.
- 28:39So our favorite segment of the week, Smelty's Bonehead of the Super Bowl.
- 28:44Yeah, I mean, bonehead move of the Super Bowl, nothing too wild.
- 28:51But there was a scene that was captured.
- 28:56Involving Taylor Swift's boyfriend.
- 28:58I mean, Travis Kelce on the side line with Andy Reed kind of came up yelling, maybe gave
- 29:07him a little with his chest, you know, but he looked more like, you know, more angry.
- 29:13First off, I did I did see something that Travis said.
- 29:16I don't know if you've seen what he said about it yet.
- 29:18Have you?
- 29:19I think so.
- 29:20What do you tell me?
- 29:21What do you make of the situation?
- 29:22I want to know what you make of the situation first.
- 29:25I mean, the whole situation, he very emotional player.
- 29:27It's a super bowl.
- 29:28We know that.
- 29:29So apparently what would like what he came on said was like, like, trust me.
- 29:32I mean, like, put me in the get me in the game.
- 29:34Put me in down here. And that's what like apparently Andy Reed has said.
- 29:40But I don't know.
- 29:41I mean, like, like he's he was letting the emotions get the best of him.
- 29:44That's what Andy Reed said.
- 29:45Yeah, that's what I saw today.
- 29:46And he came on and said, that's what Travis said to him was just like, like, get me in
- 29:49the game.
- 29:50Then that's conflicting because I saw what Kelsey said and because I don't remember whatever
- 29:55whatever newscast asked him.
- 29:58And he was like at the game.
- 30:00He was still in pads and everything, even what he said that it was caught on camera.
- 30:03He's like, oh, you guys caught that.
- 30:05Oh, well, you know, we're just going to keep that between us.
- 30:10I just said that I really loved him.
- 30:12Well, yeah, I mean, he was obviously fibbing.
- 30:14Must have been something wild said, right?
- 30:18That obviously, again, like we know he's an emotional player.
- 30:20We know that already.
- 30:21And like he did the game super bowl to be specific.
- 30:24Right.
- 30:25And that was right after the fumble.
- 30:26So like obviously just, you know, just amped ready to go.
- 30:30So, you know, I can't it's not a crazy bonehead.
- 30:33I'm not like faulting him really for this.
- 30:35Right.
- 30:36But like it's still like, you know, that's your H.C. like, let's just, you know, this
- 30:40is a 65 year old man.
- 30:42That's your 65 year old age.
- 30:43It's a salt that you just went into it.
- 30:45You're a boulder yourself and you just bumped him, you know, like, yes, this is, you know,
- 30:52it was funny to get in the postgame pressure.
- 30:54Like Andy was there.
- 30:55Reed was asked about it and he was like, yeah, he just caught me a little off guard.
- 30:58I bet he caught me a little off balance is like why like stumbled or whatnot.
- 31:02But I mean, it's nobody's mad about it.
- 31:05Like I'm sure Kelsey apologized to him.
- 31:06Reed was just like, like, why are you apologizing?
- 31:08I'm sure is what he said.
- 31:09He's an emotional guy, especially after the emotional play fumbled down there.
- 31:13And I'm sure Kelsey was like, if Kelsey was in the game, it might have been the block
- 31:17that was like the guy that was coming off that block that Kelsey would have been making
- 31:21that caused the fumble or whatever it may be.
- 31:22Right.
- 31:23And you said that right after it happened because we had the pleasure of watching the
- 31:25game together.
- 31:26Yeah.
- 31:27Yay.
- 31:28Thank you, Kev.
- 31:29Thanks have I kevs.
- 31:30But yeah.
- 31:31So I don't know.
- 31:32It's not again, not a crazy bonehead because nothing really happened in the game that was
- 31:39had because it was so great.
- 31:40You know, so exactly.
- 31:42I mean, it's like it's slim pickings for the honestly.
- 31:45I don't know.
- 31:46Since I had no skin in the game, I felt the rest for fair.
- 31:49I thought it was a very well officiated game.
- 31:51I feel like the rest aren't even really on my mind.
- 31:53But again, I had no skin in the game.
- 31:55So obviously I'm not playing as close attention, but as far as the refs go.
- 31:58But at the same time, you know, I didn't see anything that was like egregiously bad.
- 32:03No, I mean, either.
- 32:05And of course, now the Twitter refs have come out and found, you know, three, four obvious
- 32:10holding calls that were the chief.
- 32:12But the thing is, dude, any game you could find that the thing about us is those guys
- 32:17are doing that are Niners fans.
- 32:18If they were to roll the tape back and look at every single time the Niners had the ball,
- 32:21I guarantee they'd find the same amount of plays that the Niners got away with.
- 32:24Probably.
- 32:25It's the game.
- 32:26I mean, are you playing the NFL?
- 32:28It's like, yeah, it's like, I thought the game was very well officiated.
- 32:32That's why you have to only call the blatantly ridiculous holding calls, you know, like some
- 32:37exactly.
- 32:38You can tell Arm extended pulling them down to the ground or some wild like I did.
- 32:42You know, that's not a pancake.
- 32:43You know, that's exactly, you know, that's a hold all day.
- 32:46But like, like you said, if you go look, I bet all five of them dudes are holding on
- 32:50every play near, you know, depends on how fine you want it to be.
- 32:55And that's probably why I don't know the definition of the NFL gives, but I'm sure it's up for
- 33:00interpretation and a little vague, I'd imagine, because of that reason.
- 33:04Yeah.
- 33:05It was funny.
- 33:06The clip that I saw of like the, you know, the calls that Casey got away with, there
- 33:10was one that it was like an offensive lineman.
- 33:12It was a hold.
- 33:13Yes.
- 33:14But the guy next to him, the Niners defensive lineman had an obvious hold on the offensive
- 33:18lineman.
- 33:19Right.
- 33:20And how it was like it was the exact same play that there's two obvious holding call
- 33:22obvious when you slow it down and look at it when you're looking for it.
- 33:25Right.
- 33:26But live naked eye, which thank God that that still happens because we still have the human
- 33:30element in the game, which is the refs.
- 33:32You have to.
- 33:33Sometimes you hate it, right?
- 33:34When it's against your team.
- 33:35But like, but like how many illegal hands to the face at that point is the D line given,
- 33:42you know, like you could, you could, you could pick it apart.
- 33:44You could throw a flag on every single NFL play.
- 33:46Yeah.
- 33:47Yeah.
- 33:48And not the, yeah, not to go on a tangent about the refs like we just did in the middle
- 33:50of freaking bonehead, but like just to prove that the refs weren't boneheads in this game.
- 33:54I honestly thought that they they called a pretty fair game.
- 33:58One of the most fair Super Bowls I think I've watched.
- 34:00The fact that nobody's talking about the officiating with how the officiating has been this year.
- 34:05Huge win for the Super Bowl in the NFL this year.
- 34:07100 percent.
- 34:08100 percent.
- 34:09All right.
- 34:10Well, let's move on from the Super Bowl recap.
- 34:12Then we're going to move into some award reactions.
- 34:16As you guys all know, we did predict them last week.
- 34:18We thought who we said who we should have won, who we thought would have won and got
- 34:22a couple of them right.
- 34:23Got a couple of them wrong.
- 34:24We're going to kind of do again, just a little lightning round in this one.
- 34:27There's not much to talk about because we already explained why we all we thought the
- 34:29guys who won should have.
- 34:31But just a quick reactions here.
- 34:33So MVP Lamar, we were both on par with this one.
- 34:35Yeah, 100 percent.
- 34:36I totally agree.
- 34:37Like that is just nothing even.
- 34:39Yeah.
- 34:40Cool.
- 34:41Yep.
- 34:42Offensive player of the year.
- 34:43Christian McCaffrey wanted.
- 34:44I thought it was going to Tyreek.
- 34:45I think Christian was more deserving.
- 34:46I think him being in the MVP nominee hurt him.
- 34:50But Christian was deserving.
- 34:51Yeah, I was cool with him or Tyreek.
- 34:52Yep.
- 34:53100 P defensive player of the year.
- 34:54This is where there's some debate.
- 34:55T.J.
- 34:56Watch should have won this award.
- 34:57I agree, dude.
- 34:58He even missed a couple of games and he still led the league in sacks.
- 35:01And it is like across the board, almost every statistical like actual stat T.J.
- 35:05Watt had better than Miles Garrett.
- 35:07When you look at the like the new numbers, the pro football focus that looks at the actual
- 35:10impact outside of statistics, Miles Garrett fared a little bit better, but he also had
- 35:14more games to do that, so those rankings are going to be higher.
- 35:17And you can argue that Miles Garrett is the main, you know, that that's the nucleus of
- 35:22your defense right now.
- 35:23So like, you know, that there's something to be said about that.
- 35:27But dude, yeah, I totally agree with you.
- 35:29I thought it was T.J.
- 35:30Watts to lose.
- 35:31Obviously, he did lose it.
- 35:32But it's not that Miles Garrett isn't isn't deserving.
- 35:35I would argue it is just to me that I thought T.J.
- 35:38Watt was more deserving.
- 35:39And the people are always harsh with the other side.
- 35:42That's why that's so good.
- 35:43Yeah, Miles Garrett has the Darius Smith.
- 35:45Right, right.
- 35:46Who's no slouch, as we both know.
- 35:48Yeah, yeah.
- 35:49It moves us over to the rookies, offensive rookie of the year.
- 35:53C.J.
- 35:54Stroud won this award.
- 35:55Puka should have won it, in my opinion, but I'm not mad at C.J.
- 35:58Well, and it's just about the records for me, honestly, that Puka went off and was able
- 36:01to obtain this year.
- 36:04But I'm not mad about C.J.
- 36:06You know, you can't argue against that.
- 36:08You really can't, other than Puka's records.
- 36:10That's it.
- 36:11That's your only argument.
- 36:1250-50 on if you win that argument or not, you know, like, and obviously it didn't win.
- 36:17And C.J.
- 36:18Stroud won it.
- 36:19I'm cool with that because he led a Houston Texans team to a playoffs that it hasn't seen
- 36:24in a hot minute.
- 36:25A hot minute.
- 36:26Hot minute.
- 36:27And a win.
- 36:28And got a win.
- 36:30And the future's bright.
- 36:31So I'm cool.
- 36:32I'm cool.
- 36:33Move over to the defensive side of the ball.
- 36:36Third time in NFL history, we have had a player from the same team win the both offensive
- 36:40and defensive rookie of the year, as we all know happened last year.
- 36:45Yeah.
- 36:46Last year with Soss Gardner and Garrett Wilson.
- 36:48Will Anderson on the Texans won this award.
- 36:51I'm not mad at it.
- 36:52I thought all five guys should have won the award.
- 36:54They all played their tails off this year.
- 36:56So you know, Will Anderson was deserving.
- 36:58No, he was.
- 36:59And it's for me, it's the same argument I just made for C.J.
- 37:01Stroud.
- 37:02Houston Texans were not much.
- 37:05We're not much.
- 37:06And like you had these two guys and now you have cornerstone pieces to build around on
- 37:09both sides of the ball.
- 37:11It's same deal.
- 37:13Future's bright.
- 37:14I'm not mad at it.
- 37:15I'm not mad at it.
- 37:16But like you said, all five, honestly, we're deserving.
- 37:18And I feel like that's usually the case for defensive rookie of the year.
- 37:21You're going to have a couple of guys that are just outstanding.
- 37:24It just is what it is.
- 37:26Yeah, it is what it is.
- 37:28Like you said.
- 37:29And then the probably most.
- 37:31So we got two left here.
- 37:32One of the most debated was come coach of the year, which was won by Kevin Stefanski.
- 37:37You know, I had D'Amico Ryan's and Dan Campbell ahead of him.
- 37:42But now that I look back at it after all the adversity the Browns had this year with quarterbacks
- 37:46and whatnot, I'm not mad that Kevin Stefanski wanted.
- 37:49He was deserving of it.
- 37:50I just thought Dan Campbell and D'Amico were a little bit more deserving.
- 37:53I don't have much to add to that because I totally agree.
- 37:56He was my number three.
- 37:57I did put him at three.
- 37:59But I agree.
- 38:00You know, Texans and Detroit both.
- 38:04I thought were worse situations that, you know, both coaches unlocked some.
- 38:09Dan Campbell's been building something there and has proved every year.
- 38:12Ryan's came in again to a team with led by rookies, as we just saw, and was able to do
- 38:18some with it.
- 38:19So I think there's something to be said about that.
- 38:20But you know, again, like you said, not mad at Stefanski.
- 38:23I just I did have him at three.
- 38:25Maybe they couldn't pick between the other two and they're just like, I just give it
- 38:29to Kev.
- 38:30Yeah, that's probably what it was.
- 38:32Probably what it was.
- 38:33And then the last one here, we have the comeback player of the year.
- 38:36This was won by Joe Flacco, who I thought was deserving of it.
- 38:41I thought it was going to go a different direction.
- 38:43And I'm glad they got it right with this one.
- 38:45Like I previously stated, DeMar Hamlin is one in life and he has the sweet victory of
- 38:50being able to wake up.
- 38:52So he was he deserving of it from what the word means?
- 38:57No, because he didn't really play for comeback player of the year.
- 39:03But I'm happy to see he's still in the league and footsteps came in and just stole this
- 39:07award.
- 39:08Well, and like you said, it's not like he played much before the injury, we can call
- 39:13it anyway.
- 39:14But like and then he didn't play much after.
- 39:16So did he really come back?
- 39:18He definitely came back to life.
- 39:19That's 100 percent for sure.
- 39:20And I actually have a friend that argued this to me the other night.
- 39:23The DeMar Hamlin should have won the award.
- 39:24But and I get it.
- 39:26It's a great argument.
- 39:27But as far as like the definition of what the award is, Joe Flacco literally came off
- 39:33his couch and led a team to the playoffs, coming back from not playing.
- 39:38I don't even think he played at all last year, did he?
- 39:40Or was that his last year?
- 39:41And then if that might have been as I can't honestly can remember the Jets last year,
- 39:45that might have been his last his last his final season.
- 39:48But like he came like he was retired.
- 39:50He was done and he came back.
- 39:52That's the true definition of the award.
- 39:54Baker, you could make the argument for as well, since he obviously did not play super
- 39:58awesome last year.
- 40:00Came back from that to play really well.
- 40:02Another deal to like to write, come back from the injuries played really well.
- 40:06You know, it just I think the right guy won the award.
- 40:09I'm not taking anything away from DeMar Hamlin, but it's it wouldn't have been wrong if they
- 40:16gave it to him.
- 40:17No, no, it wouldn't have been, you know, but I got it right.
- 40:20But right, right.
- 40:21Well, that's all we have for the award reactions this week then.
- 40:25So we're going to wrap up this podcast here.
- 40:27Our parting thoughts on the NFL season is what a season we had.
- 40:32We're going to talk a little bit about my Packers, a little bit about your Vikings here
- 40:36and just kinds of season as a whole.
- 40:38And we'll start with my Packers.
- 40:41You know, we're going to we're going to kind of put what what one word would describe the
- 40:45season for you.
- 40:46And my one word this year was emotional.
- 40:49As you can tell by the podcast that we had, it was an absolute roller coaster for me with
- 40:53Jordan Love with Joe Berry, an absolute roller coaster, highs, the absolute lows.
- 41:00And you know, if if I wouldn't if I would have to pick an honorable mention, it would
- 41:05be promising just because of what we the the adversity we did like overcome with having
- 41:10the successful second second half of the year.
- 41:13We have no big name free agents that are off the book or on the books or that we need to
- 41:17resign very little cap space.
- 41:19We could work that out a little bit, hopefully with Bakhtiari in his future.
- 41:22But it's I'm really, really, really looking forward to what this Packer team has to bring.
- 41:28We're so young.
- 41:29There's so much potential really across the board at this point outside of the safety
- 41:33position.
- 41:34And the early season favorites already have us as you know, the I saw one that was the
- 41:39Packers were the fourth one.
- 41:41The Packers were the sixth and one of the Packers were the eighth and in the rankings.
- 41:45So overall, like in the league, like projecting next year, AFC, NFC, though.
- 41:50Correct.
- 41:51Yeah.
- 41:52And the NFL.
- 41:53Yep.
- 41:54Yep.
- 41:55Which I love to see.
- 41:56The fourth or sixth highest favorite to win the MVP next year as well.
- 41:59He's tied with Brock Purdy for the odds that I believe plus 1300.
- 42:02Tied for what?
- 42:03Brock Purdy.
- 42:04I think he's it's either like fourth or fifth.
- 42:07Okay.
- 42:08If I'm not mistaken, it's Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, and then I think Purdy and and and
- 42:18J Love.
- 42:19If I'm not mistaken, I very well could be wrong in that I'm not looking at the numbers.
- 42:21This was based off of an Instagram post I saw.
- 42:24But like I said, emotional but but promising at the same time, man.
- 42:27How about you and your Vikings?
- 42:31I mean, the word I guess concern comes to mind when it comes to the way things went
- 42:38this season.
- 42:39Obviously, we don't really have a quarterback situation figured out yet.
- 42:45And we are in February.
- 42:46So we got time, but we don't have one figured out yet.
- 42:49We got JJ's contract situation, obviously all over the news as in the sports world anyway.
- 42:57So I guess another word that comes around is like responsibility.
- 43:01Like Kevin O'Connell and Kwesi, the GM, they have a responsibility to figure this thing
- 43:08out here.
- 43:09Like we're so used to mediocrity here in Minnesota with our sports the past what the
- 43:15city of Minneapolis has the highest amount of games through the four major sports and
- 43:21not have a championship or something like that.
- 43:24Last time was the Twinkies in the 80s.
- 43:26Yeah, that was a playoff game.
- 43:27Or yeah, yeah, sorry.
- 43:2991 1991 the twins won the World Series.
- 43:32Yep.
- 43:33So yeah, concern and responsibility concern that we're not where we need to be.
- 43:39Do I think that's a little bit different?
- 43:41Is that word different if Kirk Cousins doesn't get injured?
- 43:43Probably.
- 43:44But now you have that 36 year old quarterback coming off in Achilles, somebody who does
- 43:49take care of their body religiously.
- 43:52Not to you know, put a knock on him because he is very religious man as well.
- 43:56But he takes care of his body.
- 43:57You see that with a lot of players nowadays.
- 43:59So is it bad to bring him back?
- 44:00Not necessarily.
- 44:01But again, goes to that other word of responsibility for KOC and Kwesi.
- 44:07They're responsible for making that decision.
- 44:09Do you bring back Kirk Cousins?
- 44:11Do you draft the quarterback of the future?
- 44:14Do you resign or do you trade Justin Jefferson?
- 44:19That is your responsibility.
- 44:21And they're in that position.
- 44:22And we're about to see if they're worth the dollar amount they're paid to make that decision.
- 44:29I love it, Smelty.
- 44:31Well everybody, it's been an absolute pleasure to be by your side this week, this year for
- 44:35the NFL season.
- 44:36We do apologize for not being with you every single week.
- 44:40We will get that straightened out next week or next year.
- 44:43I'm sorry, we'll full force.
- 44:44We'll be back with some off season talk, especially as soon as the draft season approaches and
- 44:51kind of is quickly upon us.
- 44:52But in the meantime, Smelty, we have another podcast that's going to be coming out here.
- 44:58Not next week.
- 44:59We're taking a week off.
- 45:00Believe it or not, we have a week off here.
- 45:03But the F1 season is quickly approaching.
- 45:05I don't want to change gears a little bit here.
- 45:09Switch over to F1.
- 45:10I know this is a football pod, but I want to plug the other pod we're having here.
- 45:14So in two weeks, we'll be back with the F1 pod.
- 45:17We're going to recap and kind of predict look into every single race this year.
- 45:21So it's going to be a kind of wishy washy schedule.
- 45:23There might not be a podcast every week as the F1 season doesn't have one every week.
- 45:27We're going to bring on a new guy onto the pod here bring back somebody that we've heard
- 45:31before.
- 45:32We're looking forward to it.
- 45:33And we hope that you guys all tune in.
- 45:34Like I said, give us a week off.
- 45:36It's been a long season.
- 45:37Can't really make that excuse because we haven't been doing it all season.
- 45:39But we've been solid since like week six, five, some like that.
- 45:43We were close.
- 45:44Yeah, like week nine.
- 45:45But that's all right.
- 45:46Well, we did a couple though.
- 45:48We got yeah.
- 45:49Yeah.
- 45:50Hank ran.
- 45:51Buckle up.
- 45:52But yeah, but it was our absolute pleasure to talk football with you guys all this year.
- 45:57We'll be back next year with football.
- 45:59Stay tuned for a couple different appearances throughout this throughout the offseason here.
