Transcript
- 0:00What's up everybody? Welcome back to another episode
- 0:02of the After Hours podcast. On today's episode, we have Eric
- 0:06Chaub of Team Proceed. I've known Eric for a while now,
- 0:10probably since honestly, I've probably known him since our
- 0:12first Final bout trip. So maybe 2015, I want to say.
- 0:16But Eric's been driving the GS300 on Team Proceed ever since
- 0:21that time. Maybe a little bit longer than
- 0:23that. I'd say maybe around 2014.
- 0:25I'm sure we talked about it in this episode.
- 0:28Yeah. So Chaub's been an awesome guy,
- 0:30just like all the rest of the proceed guys.
- 0:32They're very, very welcoming and supportive to everyone in the
- 0:36drifting community. So it was great to hear Eric's
- 0:39specific story with his life, how he got into drifting.
- 0:44You know, his he had also started in the Honda game, so he
- 0:48talks about his Hondas, stuff like that.
- 0:50And then we get into how he got the GS300 and basically the long
- 0:54journey he's had with the car and with his team.
- 0:57We also dove into his work life a little bit.
- 1:00We went down the rabbit hole of him explaining how he left his
- 1:04corporate job and basically turned to the automotive field,
- 1:08which is very weird transition, I felt.
- 1:12But you guys will. I mean, it's weird because you
- 1:15don't see it happening that often, but the way he describes
- 1:19it is kind of what a lot of people could relate to.
- 1:22They get stuck in a corporate job where they realize their
- 1:24quality of life is not as they expected to be and they try to
- 1:29find another way to make a living.
- 1:31So it was a definitely a great conversation.
- 1:34And as you guys know, Carl is living the corporate life right
- 1:37now, so he related a lot to Eric's struggles and I'm sure a
- 1:41lot of you guys will as well. I hope you enjoy this episode
- 1:45and we will keep bringing you more content from Final About 7.
- 1:48This podcast is sponsored by East Coast Drift School.
- 1:52East Coast Drift School is a driving school focused on
- 1:54learning the art of drifting, conveniently located at the
- 1:57greatest drifting facility in the United States, Raceway Park
- 2:00in Englishtown, NJ. Raceway Park currently has three
- 2:03tracks, so you will have a few options to choose from when
- 2:06setting up your lessons. Chris Knapp, who is part of the
- 2:08Raceway Park family, will be your teacher as he guides you
- 2:10through car setup and technique. If you are more of a seasoned
- 2:13driver, E Coaster School is also the place where you can get some
- 2:16extra seat time. Chris allows private track time
- 2:19with no instructing as well so that you can get some tests and
- 2:21tune runs in before that big event or competition you have
- 2:24coming up. Instead of spending the night
- 2:26dodging the police with your boys, consider signing up with E
- 2:28Coaster School the next time they release their schedule.
- 2:31Chris releases schedule on the 16th of every month through
- 2:33Instagram. Make sure to check them out,
- 2:36give them a follow and shoot over a direct message when you
- 2:38are ready to set up a date. You can find them on Instagram
- 2:41at East Coast Drift School. This podcast is also sponsored
- 2:44by Automotive Specialty Wraps. Looking to have your car ceramic
- 2:47coated or wrapped? Look no further than Automotive
- 2:49Specialty Wraps. ASW is a company specializing in
- 2:53paint protection, film vehicle wraps, ceramic coatings, and
- 2:56window tinting. Owned and operated by car
- 2:58enthusiasts and Drifters, their technicians have over 10 years
- 3:01of experience in the industry. They are located right off of
- 3:04Route 2O8IN, Fairlawn, New Jersey.
- 3:06Other than window tinting, which is something we all need at some
- 3:08point, it was the ceramic coating that really caught my
- 3:10attention back when they reached out to us.
- 3:12This coating basically gives your cars paint extra UV
- 3:15protection while also making it shine.
- 3:17Wax only lasts a couple weeks at most, but ceramic coating lasts
- 3:21for a year or even longer. Honestly, this stuff is like
- 3:24witchcraft to me. Julian came down here one day to
- 3:26explain how it works and how it compares to wax and I was pretty
- 3:29stunned. They perform a full 2 stage
- 3:31Polish to the car beforehand just to make sure it's in
- 3:34perfect condition before applying the coating.
- 3:36As mentioned, they also offer window tinting and paint
- 3:39protection film installations. Now everyone knows what window
- 3:42tinting is, but these guys offer carbon or ceramic window
- 3:45tinting. Depending on your goals with the
- 3:47vehicle. Paint protection film or PPF is
- 3:50a great idea for those new vehicle owners that don't want
- 3:52to watch their investment get littered with rock shifts.
- 3:55Also keep in mind they are capable of getting liveries
- 3:57designed and installed as well as full vehicle wraps.
- 4:01From protecting your tow rigs exterior to full livery
- 4:03installations on your drift car, they have you covered.
- 4:06You can contact them over at Automotive specialtywraps.com
- 4:10and make sure they give them a follow on Instagram at
- 4:12Automotive Specialty Wraps. Welcome everybody to the fashion
- 4:25after hours podcast. We're here to bring you another
- 4:27episode. It's a new morning.
- 4:28It's a new day. What day is it?
- 4:31I don't know. It's Thursday, but we're here to
- 4:33bring you another guest. We have chop of team proceed and
- 4:36of of just a bunch of other this car.
- 4:40This is chop. This is chop.
- 4:42Hello. That's that's how I know chop.
- 4:44We usually have a laughing track or a clapping track.
- 4:46I don't have any of that. Because I don't.
- 4:48Don't. Let's see what we got.
- 4:50No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 4:54This is wrong. Yo, how did you do that?
- 4:59Stop that, It worked. Malcolm's been trying to fix
- 5:02that for so long. What is that?
- 5:03Hold on. Wait.
- 5:05Wait for this. Carl, say something all right.
- 5:08Well, fuck that. Now this is it me.
- 5:12Now maybe it's Chop I. See how this works?
- 5:15Nope, we're not going to find out.
- 5:16Right now you're right, but thank you.
- 5:17So much for coming on to the podcast.
- 5:20We're here at Eric's Auto Lab. Not my auto lab, just another
- 5:24Eric. Oh yeah.
- 5:26I I was trying to tell Frankie, like, what if that's his shop?
- 5:29I didn't know Chop had a shop. What?
- 5:31I'm so distracted right now. You are chop.
- 5:33Say something, put that shit. Down.
- 5:37OK, that was funny. Yeah, I like it.
- 5:40Yep, and now you don't have to listen to your own voice though.
- 5:42So this is kind of. Perfect.
- 5:47OK, I'm done. I'm done.
- 5:48Seriously. I got to meet y'all.
- 5:49I got to meet you last year briefly.
- 5:51Yes, you were like 3 beers now and.
- 5:53Yo, and now and now we're like we converse through on the
- 5:57Internet. Yes, yes, yes.
- 5:59I found out you were a Philippine.
- 6:00I'm just kidding. Dude, no.
- 6:01Isn't that weird? You know, tell me that.
- 6:03That's weird. It shouldn't.
- 6:04It shouldn't matter. It it really, no, it really
- 6:07shouldn't matter. But at the end of the day,
- 6:09there's like a bond that's there that people, yeah, have that
- 6:13bond with others. Kind of How do you cook your
- 6:15rice? I, I just told you how I, I put
- 6:17the hand in there. We were talking about he does
- 6:19the finger, I do the hand. Like, I mean.
- 6:21You have to be confused with the other finger though.
- 6:24Just rice finger. Hey, yo.
- 6:29I do get it wrong sometimes, especially when I cook Korean
- 6:32rice. Dude, nothing worse than when
- 6:34you cook the rice and it's not. When everybody's ready to eat
- 6:38and then the rice is fucked up and you're just.
- 6:39Like and it's hard or it's like. Wet.
- 6:42Yeah, I don't cook for anyone else.
- 6:43I just cook for myself that way if it's terrible.
- 6:45He's smart. There are some, there are some
- 6:47things like, you know, that show Chopped that and I've, I've
- 6:51watched that show and people come up with like solutions real
- 6:53quick, right? So they'll, they'll go like, oh
- 6:55shit, this stuff's burning. Let me go take it off, put it in
- 7:00the fridge, do this, do that, do this.
- 7:02So for for the cooked rice or the soggy rice, what I do is I
- 7:06will pull the lid off. And vent it, yes, yes and get to
- 7:10atmosphere. Get rid of Yeah.
- 7:11Vent it to atmosphere. Yep.
- 7:13Yeah. And just get the get the extra
- 7:16moisture out of the rice and let that thing.
- 7:17And then if you shit, if you're about to fry it.
- 7:20But when you undercook it, that's just fucked.
- 7:22Yeah, you're kind of. I add water and it just turns
- 7:23into soup. Yeah, that's.
- 7:28Because I've also done that and it just like looks gross and
- 7:31like thankfully it's just me. I'm feeding usually at home so.
- 7:35It's a good ass donut. It's because it's chocolate.
- 7:38You love that country Donuts. Country, not to be confused with
- 7:42county because my wife makes fun of me all the time.
- 7:45I don't. I didn't.
- 7:46We have Country Donuts in New York, but not by us, I don't
- 7:49think. Right.
- 7:50I don't know, dude. But this is like a chain, so we.
- 7:52Yes, yeah. But obviously we're here
- 7:54surrounding the final bout Buzz and it's nice to just be here to
- 7:58be able to talk to you, have a good conversation about.
- 8:00I would like to talk about the car.
- 8:01Let's do it because. Wait, let me just say thanks for
- 8:04inviting me to be on here. Oh yeah, of course.
- 8:07You know, we watched. Brad and I both watch you guys
- 8:09and. Brad, Brad was saying how he was
- 8:11listening to the pod and I was like, why are you?
- 8:14What you. Listen to that.
- 8:16That's how I feel it's. Always like such a dude.
- 8:17It's always so like weird because I'm like, I'm like.
- 8:21Yeah, I watch you. Why are you?
- 8:22In the eyes, yeah, like, and they're no but.
- 8:24It's like we're supposed to be happy that people are.
- 8:26I am because and people are coming up to me yesterday.
- 8:28I love listening to it in the shop.
- 8:29I'm like, bro, I would be in in the shop.
- 8:31That's Yeah, I could be stressing out, yelling, freaking
- 8:34out, dude, if I And then you hear me in the.
- 8:36Shop a full time, I'd have headphones on and a podcast
- 8:39going. That's what I've been.
- 8:40Doing really, has anybody ever said I love listening to you on
- 8:43the toilet or in the shower or. I don't know, I.
- 8:47Don't know are you gonna I was just.
- 8:48Wondering I have a speaker in the shower now so I could.
- 8:54You'll live it. That's life.
- 8:55I don't. I'm not a play music in the
- 8:58shower really. I need to sit there just.
- 9:00Is that is that the only time you're calm and you meditate?
- 9:03I need to hear like. Just the water, yeah, hitting
- 9:05the back. Dude, I don't know why but you
- 9:07tell you. You're telling me when the hot
- 9:10water like goes through your hair?
- 9:12Well, job. I don't have any.
- 9:15But like, you know what I'm saying?
- 9:16It hits your scalp and then you just get one of those like, oh,
- 9:18like, damn. You were in the shower for a
- 9:20little bit this morning. Yeah, I had to charge up.
- 9:22Yeah, I had to charge up. That's what was going on.
- 9:24You got to sit there. I am going to be great today
- 9:27just sitting there in the shower just.
- 9:30Does anybody else do this? I end the shower with a cold
- 9:32shower. A lot of people do that, OK.
- 9:34Yeah, there's something to do with like your pores with that.
- 9:37Yeah, I just wake up with it. Usually I notice usually female
- 9:40but a lot of people. Fucking you're the one bro.
- 9:43This is the guy who we're at the rest stop.
- 9:45He's blowing dry conditioning. He's I'm fucking dry shampooing
- 9:50my hair and he goes yo watch the overspray.
- 9:52Bro that the sun was hitting it and there's.
- 9:54This huge aerosol cloud. I just do cold showers now.
- 9:58Just straight cold. Just straight cold.
- 9:59Unless I'm on vacation like this or this is a trip, work trip,
- 10:02kind of. But yeah, I'm just like, I'll
- 10:04enjoy my time. No dude, warm.
- 10:06They went through this period of time where they were obsessed
- 10:08with just taking cold Ash, no? I haven't stopped.
- 10:11Why? Tell me you're good though.
- 10:14You you can have a normal hot shower.
- 10:15Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But he.
- 10:16Probably understands it because he goes cold at the end, yeah.
- 10:19So. I would start.
- 10:20For eczema, I don't know. It's just it's, it's straight up
- 10:24torture, but I'm into that. You guys know the hot boys from
- 10:29Wow? Canada.
- 10:30I know. I'm just trying to remember.
- 10:32I don't know where. Yeah.
- 10:34Brad, help me out. No anyways.
- 10:36What is Brad going to do about this?
- 10:38Canada is fucking huge so. So the first time they came to
- 10:43US Air, it was for Club of Far Jam.
- 10:45They stayed at my house. We've never met before.
- 10:47We're just talking on the Internet.
- 10:48And I was like, oh, you guys can stay at my house.
- 10:51Cool. So they all thought they were
- 10:53walking into serial killer's house.
- 10:56Why? Why?
- 10:56Because we didn't, you know this most of the time of the Internet
- 10:58where like you don't meet the people on the Internet.
- 11:01I was telling him I was explaining how fun about one
- 11:03was. Like it was like the Internet
- 11:04was like meeting. Converging right so they get to
- 11:07the house. My roommate, who shall remain
- 11:10unnamed, did not pay the hot water bill.
- 11:14Oh shit. It was cold water for everybody.
- 11:19So welcome, yeah, welcome to. Chicago.
- 11:21No, that's thankfully never. So it was funny because they
- 11:23thought they were coming to a drug dealer's house with like
- 11:26mansion, white walls leopard. Did they know what you looked
- 11:29like? How about?
- 11:30Yeah, yeah. OK, so and then they come in
- 11:31and. So they see.
- 11:32With no hot water or anything. And they're like.
- 11:36The total opposite, yeah. That is this.
- 11:40That is like the fifth time somebody said, yeah, they didn't
- 11:43know. We didn't know each other or
- 11:45anything and I just invited them over.
- 11:47Yeah. Actually, their parents were
- 11:48like, he might kill you. Yeah.
- 11:52Be careful, that is a thing be. Careful, be careful.
- 11:54We just did the podcast with Damon and he was, he was saying
- 11:57the same thing the Sylvia days. And he's like, yeah, when we
- 12:00first meet people, my family thought I was insane because I
- 12:02was just meeting these people that had the same car as me on
- 12:04the Internet. And they were all like, you
- 12:06can't meet people from the Internet.
- 12:07And now you look at it and it's like.
- 12:09Now it's really the Internet together all the time.
- 12:11Yeah, people are getting married off the Internet.
- 12:13Wow, for real? Yeah.
- 12:15I could be looking for bitches right now.
- 12:17That's crazy. How long have you been really
- 12:19into the whole drifting thing? Was it always drifting or were
- 12:22there cars? Before I started in the Honda
- 12:24game. Yo that's mad Filipino where you
- 12:29go because I. Mean it was the time, right?
- 12:31Yeah, it's, it's like. I grew up with my cousin.
- 12:33He had a 94 Integra LS and back then it was different, right?
- 12:39So he had 19 inch racing heart C fives. 19/19/19 and that's ADC
- 12:46bar. Too, Yeah.
- 12:47Yeah, with. The with the yeah.
- 12:48So I got into it because of him, and then I was lucky enough to
- 12:51jump into a type R as my first R.
- 12:56What? What year was this?
- 12:59Well the type R was at 2000 and I got it in 2000 and.
- 13:04You had it ITR. I did, yes. 2002 I think is when
- 13:08I got it. What the?
- 13:10Hell, it was really cool though, because yeah.
- 13:14Oh, you, you think so? Yeah, I OK, so well off enough
- 13:20that my parents bought me a car. OK, Yeah.
- 13:22And it was what I chose. And you know, do you remember?
- 13:26How much that was back then for ITR?
- 13:29We paid 16 for it. Hell yeah.
- 13:32OK, see, so that's like a normal parent buying, not well back
- 13:35normal, but like that's like a parent buying their car or
- 13:39buying their kid a car. Yeah, now like a Subaru WRX or
- 13:43what have you. With the inflation of that,
- 13:44yeah, yeah. So that's like, not too
- 13:46unlandish. But then I blew up the motor at
- 13:48some point. OK.
- 13:50Did a full June 3 head package, bicycle Pistons 4 seven final
- 13:55drive. Holy shit.
- 13:57So you. Knew you wanted to play with
- 13:58cars like. Yeah.
- 13:59So my dad, I grew up with my dad working on his cars.
- 14:06My chores consisted of mowing the grass, taking out the trash,
- 14:08doing oil changes and break jobs when I was growing up.
- 14:12OK so I got into it like that but the tuning side of it came
- 14:16from my cousins. And they're all into Honda or
- 14:22well, back then. His older brother, the Integra,
- 14:24he had an IROC Z and then a 300ZX.
- 14:29And then what did he go to after that STI?
- 14:32I think when they first came out, yeah.
- 14:35Damn. But then I had the ITI for a
- 14:37little bit and all these drift guys started coming around.
- 14:40Simba, Josh, I knew you for a while because he had a tie bar
- 14:44also. But I met Simba and them Grip
- 14:46Gambler. They all had their two 40s.
- 14:49Eric Wartman, You guys know him? I feel like we heard.
- 14:51That name that. Is Simba's teammate.
- 14:56From Grip Gambler, yeah. I don't know if you guys
- 14:58remember the strawberry face purple hatch on C archives?
- 15:06White C archives? No, I don't.
- 15:07Think so it was. When Silva had a purple 1V on
- 15:10gold gram lights dude, I didn't. Even know grip gambler no until
- 15:14proceed like and then I went back.
- 15:16What's a grip gambler? Grip Gambler is probably the
- 15:19first drift team of the Midwest, I guess, or of Illinois,
- 15:24Chicago, I shouldn't say Midwest, but that's yeah.
- 15:27Yeah. Grip.
- 15:28Gambler so I'm. Trying that.
- 15:30Yeah, damn, that that name, the older names that come up, it's
- 15:35like you could tell the age. I don't know.
- 15:38For some reason right now when people name a drift team, I'm
- 15:40like, oh, that's a new team. I'm trying to cross my legs
- 15:43here. I feel all weird.
- 15:44Yeah, dude. You what?
- 15:45You might give us a little show real quick.
- 15:48So my first taste of real drifting though was RSR
- 15:50Festival. They came when they did that
- 15:52whole U.S. tour thing with a Rito and that was.
- 15:55Probably what, mid 2000s? I want to say that was probably
- 15:582003. Oh wow.
- 16:01Yeah. So they brought the the Super
- 16:03out, they brought the S14 and then brought AZ 33 out.
- 16:07So that was my first taste of and that just came.
- 16:08Out back, it's like a brand. New car that's like a.
- 16:11Brand new car. What's what's funny is we have
- 16:14this other, we have this friend, a friend of ours who's been in
- 16:16the community for a long time, Ken Fuji, and he brought over
- 16:20this tape of like a Nissan, Nissan meat, 240SX Nissan meat
- 16:24or something like that. And the Z just came out, dude.
- 16:28And it's just parked like a plain silver Z.
- 16:31It looked like Chris's first car, plain silver Z.
- 16:33And I'm just cracking up 'cause I'm like, damn, did they have
- 16:36any idea what this thing was in store for?
- 16:40Yeah, what? Was in store like that?
- 16:41Oh. My God, I remember.
- 16:42Getting the DVDs of the release for their marketing purposes.
- 16:46And I watched it over and over again.
- 16:48Yeah. Really.
- 16:49What? What?
- 16:50What do you remember? What the track edition?
- 16:51It was an orange Z33 track edition and it was just going
- 16:55through streets of whatever city it was in.
- 16:59Dude. And now what I would.
- 17:01Have thought it would be. It's cool.
- 17:02Talking to you guys because you guys are like the generation
- 17:04before me when it comes to the car.
- 17:06So how old are you? I'm 33, OK?
- 17:09Yeah, I'm 20. 9. Why are you?
- 17:11Like 35 or something I. Just turned 38.
- 17:15Getting there, getting there. You're getting there.
- 17:17Dude. You're about to hit that next
- 17:18chapter. The four chapter.
- 17:20Yeah, that's that's my wife. Next year, she's turning 40.
- 17:23Carl's about. To hit 30, yeah.
- 17:25Dude, I've been making jokes about how Frankie's like, yeah.
- 17:28The old man and then. One day I we were making jokes
- 17:31about it and I had to stop because I'm like dude.
- 17:34Yeah. I'm you're there.
- 17:36I'm going to be. There, Yeah.
- 17:38What the fuck life if you start freaking out?
- 17:42I thought. 30 was old when I was younger, yeah.
- 17:45To be 40 in a couple years but I feel.
- 17:47Like how you feel? Yeah.
- 17:48I feel OK. I'm worried about that too.
- 17:52Yeah, yeah. Yeah. 30 felt like that and then
- 17:55the second I turned it I was like, oh this ain't nothing, no.
- 17:58Was. Your journey did it jade make
- 18:01you like jaded at all now because you had the ITR you've
- 18:05seen drifting now and then drifting.
- 18:07Type R, I'm sure you did. So did Josh, right?
- 18:10Yeah. Why dude?
- 18:12Why, like Josh, will? Swear that you can drift that
- 18:15car to this day. Well, you know.
- 18:16That that EF that was on the Falcon team, I didn't even know.
- 18:20About this remember that one, but.
- 18:21Josh, do you remember Josh's pod when he told us how he was
- 18:23practicing drifting and with front wheel drive car just doing
- 18:26entries again and again and again?
- 18:28I hope to God we were not talking about ITR.
- 18:31That's what he's doing. Yep.
- 18:33That's all. That's the only type art or
- 18:35Integra that he had or front wheel drive.
- 18:37It's crazy. Yeah, it's just.
- 18:39Crazy to me because like like many others I also had Honda
- 18:45first. I had an Integra also first, but
- 18:49it was not ITRI, had just a plain GSRI.
- 18:53Had ADA daily with a previous owner.
- 18:57Installed a sunroof for fun so I had to be duct taped and it was
- 19:01missing third. No second gear so I'd go first,
- 19:04third and I had no AC Oh my. Gosh, it was probably like.
- 19:13What the heck? Dude, I didn't take it was a
- 19:15great car. Dude, crank windows.
- 19:17Oh no. No, I I didn't.
- 19:19That was my daily. I only have one car with crank
- 19:20windows and it was my hatch. Yeah, I was going to say. 240
- 19:23Yeah, my hatch. All and the coupe.
- 19:25They both had crank windows. But the DC 2 was such a good car
- 19:29dude, it really was. It had great cargo space.
- 19:31The back seats felded down like the fucking thing hit 92 RP 9200
- 19:36RPM. I slept in the.
- 19:37Back of the tap bar once at AUS Air van dude with the.
- 19:41Back and the Hatch was probably down.
- 19:43You got a little skylight, right?
- 19:44Have you guys ever. Heard about the Bonduel Inn at
- 19:46Chano. The what?
- 19:47The Who? So there is a old abandoned what
- 19:52is that motel that's just down the street from the track.
- 19:56Our first time sleeping there we didn't know where to go, so I
- 19:59don't remember who found it, but Bonduel Inn is.
- 20:03Is it a? Functioning hotel.
- 20:06It's got, you know, your typical motel rooms on one side and then
- 20:10the main area on one side. Yeah.
- 20:13I slept in the car. Oh.
- 20:14OK, it was that bad. Yeah, Oh.
- 20:16OK. Everything was very moist.
- 20:20Dude, no. So we stayed at the Miravu.
- 20:22That was years ago A. Miravu, right?
- 20:24A miravu. A Miravu.
- 20:26Oh no. American.
- 20:27No. No.
- 20:28It's the. One that's next to Carl's Junior
- 20:31or Hardee's, whatever. The one that's right there.
- 20:33Yeah, they. Got they all got mad at me and
- 20:35they were like, oh, I don't like they got mad.
- 20:37At you, yeah, they're like this is.
- 20:38Disgusting bro dude. It was so bad, man.
- 20:42It was bad. It was.
- 20:43I was. Sleeping like a baby?
- 20:44I don't know that dude. I barely knew Frankie at that
- 20:47point, he said. So you didn't?
- 20:49Want to say anything? We're going to final.
- 20:50Bow, I just wanted to go, yeah. Look at you guys now and now
- 20:54look. At.
- 20:55Look at you. Guys, now I look behind Carl,
- 20:57there's just a van packed with a bunch of shit.
- 20:58I'm like, I don't think it's much better.
- 21:00It got where? Well, not where it definitely
- 21:02grew because of the pod, which is great.
- 21:04The good old Poddington has been bringing those places the.
- 21:06Poddington, where are you guys staying?
- 21:08Now. We're actually staying in Green
- 21:10Bay up there. We got an Airbnb in Green Bay.
- 21:13Oh cool. I would.
- 21:14Like to just stay at borders every single year, but I every
- 21:17time I look for the last four years, it's booked.
- 21:19It's booked because I really got What the heck is Borders?
- 21:21It's. The main hotel, yeah, I think
- 21:25they're one of the only ones who offer any.
- 21:27Kind of Yeah, that. And like that was always like
- 21:30the one that you want to get. Yeah.
- 21:33But now I feel like yeah, too many people know.
- 21:34So Airbnb is. Actually a good choice they
- 21:36have. Airbnb is close to the track
- 21:38too, you just got to look a little.
- 21:40Earlier, yeah, we, we got something last year that was
- 21:43like, we were like, oh, this ain't that bad.
- 21:45It's like 45 minutes away. And then I looked this year and
- 21:47I was like, Green Bay's 30 minutes away.
- 21:49What the fuck am I doing? We weren't. 45 minutes away last
- 21:52year, it's like another 30 minutes too.
- 21:54It's just that those dumb roads out there, you got no lights, no
- 21:57features, you're not looking at anything.
- 21:59So yeah. But no, yeah, Green Bay's gonna
- 22:02be interesting. I mean, we, we went there last
- 22:04year to do podcasts, but we didn't.
- 22:08We got food, but that was it. Then what are you talking about?
- 22:10That was. One of my favorite food.
- 22:11Dude they had chili with spaghetti.
- 22:12Dude, you got. Cheese, Yeah.
- 22:15A lot of cheese, A lot of cheese are you?
- 22:18Are you lactose? No, no, no.
- 22:19Damn you're. Lucky.
- 22:20Yeah, you're lactose. Yeah, typical, yeah.
- 22:23How are you not? I'm confused now.
- 22:25I thought it was all through it, you know?
- 22:26People like most Filipines I I. Pushed through it.
- 22:28I ate so much cheese yesterday. Oh, you did.
- 22:31I'm here. I'm standing.
- 22:32I'm brave as hell about it. Bathroom is right there.
- 22:34Now we're going. Also he.
- 22:35Keeps using the lobby bathroom instead of ours, so something's
- 22:38going. He's nice though.
- 22:38Yeah. Thank God there's three.
- 22:40Males in there and the bathroom doesn't have a vent.
- 22:42I'm going to hope to God I don't want to 'cause we got to sleep
- 22:45in there and then I got to smell my own poop.
- 22:47You know what we? Love Culver's you guys.
- 22:50You guys don't have Culver's? No, it's also.
- 22:52Just 'cause when I pick up the burger, that shit's not sopping
- 22:55wet. True.
- 22:55Which is beautiful, it feels. Nice, it feels good to your
- 22:58hand. Cheese curds.
- 23:00I'm not. A cheese curd guy, but I had.
- 23:02It Oh yeah, it was so good. What else?
- 23:04What else is good there? The.
- 23:06Chicken tenders. Frankie had a six piece and a
- 23:08double. I get chicken.
- 23:09Tenders, a double burger, fries, milkshake, everything.
- 23:12Yeah. Did you get a shake too?
- 23:14No. I can't.
- 23:14That's that's, that's probably the one.
- 23:16That we'll message that's right when I.
- 23:17Do have shakes because I don't not against them.
- 23:20Yeah, I just wasn't feeling it that day.
- 23:21We're on the road. I didn't know the bathroom
- 23:23situation. I need to make sure we're good.
- 23:25So Simba's lactose and he only has dairy products when he's
- 23:30near home. OK.
- 23:31Yeah, Simba. I've I feel you bro and and many
- 23:35other people as well. Don't hide from you.
- 23:38Don't hide now you're listening to this you lactose.
- 23:41Fuck you. Dude, I used.
- 23:42To have a lot of. White friends right?
- 23:43And I never understood this. Now I have only Filipino friends
- 23:47and all of them can't drink milk, eat ice cream, can't do
- 23:50anything else but we do. It anyway hey, come on, let's
- 23:52get. Milkshakes.
- 23:54But then I'm going to be shitting.
- 23:55I'm like, oh, OK. I guess I am lucky 'cause I can
- 23:58have all of that, yeah. No, you're definitely lucky.
- 24:01Most of my Asian friends in general are lactose.
- 24:05That Miyagi is. Fucked he can't eat anything.
- 24:09Oh, that's. An actual friend's name, that's.
- 24:11Miyagi Yeah, that's what we're talking about.
- 24:12The Erotic Kid. Guy No, no.
- 24:14No, no, he, yeah, he. Wishes he was, but no 'cause I.
- 24:16Earlier I was like, 'cause I brought up Miyagi, I brought up
- 24:19Miyagi because just like how Frankie mentioned, his friend
- 24:22group was like primarily white. I guess before what happened we
- 24:26got a special. Guest, OH.
- 24:28My God, dude. But yeah, just like how your
- 24:30your friend group was primarily. I had to lock in really quick.
- 24:33Yeah, yeah, just like how your friend group was primarily white
- 24:35like Miyagi, I feel like was your intro to having a yellow
- 24:41fan. He was.
- 24:42So he learned. About the math, holy shit.
- 24:45Josh is here. No, what the heck?
- 24:47Where are you getting that? We just have Revgasm, Josh, just
- 24:52pulling up on the pod. Love you guys, love you too.
- 24:54Man, how we doing? We're going to see you later.
- 24:56I guess we're going to see you. Later, right?
- 24:57Yeah. Yeah, you're.
- 24:59Getting pizza right? Yeah.
- 25:03Yeah, we don't have to, Frankie said.
- 25:05He hates deep dish. I mean.
- 25:07If you guys want to get something else.
- 25:10You don't. Have to do that I'm doing it.
- 25:11For this guy, I'm just. Going bro, do you think I have a
- 25:15choice of where we? Go.
- 25:17What are you talking about? You like our new setup, so this.
- 25:22Is what you're buying. Yeah.
- 25:24This is. Look at that.
- 25:26That's the current. Owner, right?
- 25:27There. That's when they got yeah.
- 25:29That's going on the fridge. I'm not.
- 25:30This is what you bought with your money.
- 25:33This is. Your car.
- 25:35Speaking of, when I got rid of my Type R for the S14, it didn't
- 25:40start. Yeah.
- 25:41So when my dad came out, he was like, what is this shit?
- 25:45Oh no. Oh, wait, so you had S14 first?
- 25:47That's where we are. No, no, I had.
- 25:48To type R first no but. After, oh, after.
- 25:50Yeah, yeah, after you decided a 2000 year car for a 1995.
- 25:55Oh so. That's all that.
- 25:57Is yeah, that is, that's that and.
- 25:58Then it didn't start like we it didn't start.
- 26:01Josh was there. We tried to push start.
- 26:03It didn't start. That's the end of the.
- 26:04World I think my dad was like. You idiot.
- 26:10But you got it to go. Eventually, what was the?
- 26:12Problem do you remember? Dead injector and VTC cameras
- 26:16causing issues. So.
- 26:20Not of it. I wouldn't have even figured
- 26:22that out to be honest. I was like, I would, I didn't.
- 26:24Figure it out as a kid. I'm I didn't figure.
- 26:26It out my friend Kyle Colucci did.
- 26:28Josh and I's mutual friend, they went to high school together.
- 26:31I was even figured it out. I was going to.
- 26:33Ask what's your like? What's your first job like?
- 26:36How do you start my first? I guess under the table job I
- 26:42cleaned school buses in the summertime.
- 26:46It was very short lived. It was disgusting and kids are
- 26:49close. I mean I I would know I have 3
- 26:52but my friend got contracted to clean buses for a few years and
- 26:57I would go with him in the summertime and it was just
- 26:59baking degrees. Vomit at.
- 27:03That time were you already like driven by the fact that yo, I
- 27:07need to get money to pay for this car stuff.
- 27:09This was. Actually, before the car stuff,
- 27:10I was just, you know, at at that age we're all like we need
- 27:13money, right? We need, we want to go other
- 27:15friends. And it was like $6.00 an hour,
- 27:17yes. Yeah, I was like. 15 right.
- 27:20So yeah, that. Actually doesn't even sound that
- 27:22bad for $6.00 an. Hour and the inflation was
- 27:24probably not. You could still buy stuff at
- 27:26McDonald's with with $6. I remember Dollar Menu
- 27:29Millionaire. You guys remember that?
- 27:31Yeah. Yeah, they.
- 27:32Were less than a dollar I used to.
- 27:33Use Mcdoubles as a currency. Dude.
- 27:35I'd be like, oh that shit is like $23.
- 27:37That's 23 Mcdoubles. That's a week's worth of food.
- 27:40Are you kidding me? I'm not spending that there was
- 27:43this. One time my aunt we traveled
- 27:44with her and she bought $30.00 worth of McDonald's and I
- 27:46thought she was rich. I was like $30.00 and now I.
- 27:49Can't leave without spending $30.
- 27:51I walk outside. Of my door and spend $30.
- 27:53It's kind of insane. Like if we want to go.
- 27:54Crazy. For lunch, we're like, I guess
- 27:56we could get McDonald's. We could spoil ourselves.
- 27:58It's like, what? Why is that a thing?
- 28:00Now I'm going to eat. Water for lunch.
- 28:02It's just. McDonald's is like bad for you
- 28:04and it costs. More than yeah, yeah.
- 28:06Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so.
- 28:07Weird was the S. 14 That was your intro into the drifting.
- 28:12Like, did you drift that one? Did you stick with that?
- 28:14Yes, I drifted. That one.
- 28:15But Josh's 180, right? Josh was my intro drifting or
- 28:20Phil's Miata. Your his we his black one was
- 28:23called Michael Jackson. I told him all that.
- 28:28Well, I had it. OK, OK.
- 28:29It had white you guys. Paint it white K ones.
- 28:31Or it was the other one was the paint.
- 28:33Peeling Buddy Club. Buddy Club P Ones White and the
- 28:36car was black, so we said it's black and white.
- 28:39So we're going to call it Michael Jackson, OK?
- 28:41That's fine. It's a good.
- 28:42Song. Yeah, it's a good song.
- 28:44Well. It wasn't.
- 28:45It wasn't. About the song.
- 28:46That. It was about the song.
- 28:51That was my I don't think he's ever.
- 28:53Seen your S14 by the way? No.
- 28:55I don't think I I'll. Have to show up.
- 28:56I I really again like when I met Josh and I met you when I meet
- 29:00anybody. He only knows me now because he
- 29:02learned that I'm Filipino. It's it's.
- 29:03It's literally just that, like, yo, I met Melvin last night.
- 29:06It was funny as hell. Did you guys look at each
- 29:09other's calves? Yo, he.
- 29:10Kept looking at me. He's like.
- 29:11He's like, this is him, right? I'm like, yeah, that's him.
- 29:14I didn't know what he looked. Like.
- 29:16We just talked on the. Internet.
- 29:17So I'm just just like this, pointing at someone just like
- 29:21this. Yeah.
- 29:23And then? See who reacts like wait, wait,
- 29:25what was? That what?
- 29:26What's? That's how somebody, that's how
- 29:29you know. That.
- 29:30Like you haven't told. Frankie that, that's fucked up.
- 29:33Oh, look at Josh like over 2. Like he was like, oh, do it that
- 29:37yeah, that's like Hoyts. Oh.
- 29:38OK, I'm going to start doing that to my employees.
- 29:42OK. It's very low on the ground,
- 29:44just like you would expect. Is it the same color?
- 29:48Is that when you had? Big ass fucking wheels on me.
- 29:52That was when I had the Mas on it, yo.
- 29:54You're always doing burnouts dude.
- 29:57I've also noticed that as well. Everyone's calm as hell and then
- 30:00it's just Chops sitting on limiter.
- 30:02And then I always wanted to, yeah.
- 30:04And then I get in trouble. Actually, when we got back to
- 30:07the shop last night to drop off, the GSI did a burnout on the
- 30:09side of the building. I feel like I remembered this
- 30:12video. How can you not?
- 30:15I don't. Know.
- 30:16Tires are expensive now. I feel like back in the few
- 30:19years ago, you would do a burnout and you're like, all
- 30:20right, like now. Now I got to spend $230 to go
- 30:24get more tires. I'm.
- 30:26Trying to figure out new tires too.
- 30:27I don't know, it's weird. Right.
- 30:29Like, and not because you've been in the game for a while,
- 30:33but you are. That's got to be frustrating.
- 30:36Well, you know, there have been so many iterations of companies
- 30:40who you could work with for cheaper tires or sponsorships or
- 30:44just cheap tires. Remember part of that?
- 30:47Falcon Wave, Yeah. Yes, we thank you.
- 30:51Thanks to Ilya. We were sponsored by Falcon.
- 30:54Fuck yeah. Which was really so cool.
- 30:55I was going to. Say you're talking about tire
- 30:57sponsors and stuff. Yeah, we don't understand any of
- 30:59that because for some reason no tire sponsors ever want to
- 31:02sponsor anyone by us. There is that one right now, but
- 31:04tire. Sponsors are.
- 31:07It's not like how back then I thought a sponsor would be.
- 31:10So now I kind of understand the world a little bit better.
- 31:13Shit just isn't free. Yeah.
- 31:14Carl thought everyone was getting everything.
- 31:16I'm like I'm. About to go pro dude.
- 31:18Just like a need for speed and then you get the deals and then
- 31:20you get all the parts that. Didn't work like that.
- 31:24I didn't know that money is like you just get.
- 31:28Stuff for free, right? But I.
- 31:29Mean he thought this. Was skateboarding there's.
- 31:31There's ways that people I've noticed we'll make it work so
- 31:37that it's a lot more feasible, it's a lot more attainable, it's
- 31:40a lot. More realistic cause dude, well,
- 31:44right now you're getting a good perspective 'cause we're
- 31:47watching Front Street go through this in real time.
- 31:50So. But now we're superstars.
- 31:52Well, they're, they're trying their hardest to get sponsors
- 31:54and try to make this easier for themselves 'cause they're,
- 31:56they're at that point in their lives finally where they're
- 31:58like, they work really. Hard.
- 32:00You can see that too. Yeah, but they're like.
- 32:01We can't be spending money like this anymore.
- 32:03So and and. I'm very tired watching them do
- 32:07everything, yeah. Dude it doesn't it, dude.
- 32:10I props to them. I had to.
- 32:11I told. Tom, last night I'm like, bro,
- 32:13you got to be tired, right? I went to sleep.
- 32:15For him last night. Yo, that guy's a monster and
- 32:20everyone who helped him is awesome.
- 32:21Yeah, Tom's. Always been that way.
- 32:24Jimmy's kind of new to the group, but Jimmy is the exact
- 32:26same way. That's awesome.
- 32:27So. I just saw Jimmy and I was like,
- 32:29so you must be also Tom. Yeah, he.
- 32:31Looked worse. He looked worse than Tom.
- 32:33Honestly, I. Was like I told you.
- 32:35Right now that was me and that happened.
- 32:37I'd be like, I'm not driving for the next 5.
- 32:39Yeah, I'd. Be like I'm not driving guys.
- 32:41And realistically. How long would it take for
- 32:43somebody to rebuild a car like that?
- 32:45Like a. Normal.
- 32:47Person, Yeah. Couple of.
- 32:49Years at. Least they didn't.
- 32:51Do that in. Like 3 days or something.
- 32:53There's a. They got it running.
- 32:54In 21 days in a weekend or something?
- 32:57That's crazy. They got it running in like 4
- 32:59days. I just.
- 33:00I'm just cracking up because it's like this is going to be
- 33:02the best that that car ever has just cause of the resources that
- 33:06they had about to mention. When we say they got it running
- 33:08in four days, you got to watch Jimmy's video.
- 33:10I'm sure they have it all in there, but.
- 33:11Literally nothing like and. And Jimmy's builds are nice,
- 33:15that's what I'm saying. He has like.
- 33:17Everything Jimmy coated and and Raptor liner.
- 33:19Everything oversight of Jimmy just being able and and yeah,
- 33:23like you said, his high level. Is really good.
- 33:25Yeah, yeah. Very, and I know we've said this
- 33:28time and time again, but Jimmy's a pretty intelligent guy.
- 33:31Like the the education he went through, the degree he went to
- 33:34through, that's not just some Joe Schmo thing that you could
- 33:36just pass like a business degree from Rowan University in New
- 33:40Jersey. Like Rowan?
- 33:41Is that one of the colleges? That's where I went to school.
- 33:44It's like a farm college. I don't know.
- 33:46You get a. Degree in rice cook it was.
- 33:48I actually had to learn how to do that stuff there.
- 33:50I was gonna say that's probably. When you're buying all those
- 33:52Mcdoubles, that's when. I was like, Oh my gosh, I've
- 33:55been being fed my whole life. What?
- 33:58Do I do now? And I lost mad weight.
- 34:01And then I gained it crazy. Really.
- 34:03Yeah, I. Don't think I've seen you big.
- 34:06What the fuck is that supposed to?
- 34:07What? You were big.
- 34:09Come on, bro. I was a little chubby before.
- 34:12Really. Yeah, I'm.
- 34:14Not you got fat, that's what. It was you hit the family party
- 34:17and the first thing you're I heard.
- 34:19About that, I heard about that Filipino culture.
- 34:23You're. Looking big and they just.
- 34:25Say it right to your face, right to my.
- 34:26Face and I'm like, thanks Lola, how many years you got left?
- 34:30Fuck yeah. That's nuts.
- 34:32Dude, Princess and. Malcolm always.
- 34:34Oh. Dude, Princess is probably sick
- 34:35of it is Malcolm. Filipino also, yeah, he's half.
- 34:37He's half. Black half Filipino but people
- 34:40say. That he look Indian which is
- 34:41funny to me. He also looks.
- 34:42Hispanic, so I don't. Really know what Malcolm is?
- 34:44Really. Yeah.
- 34:45We don't really know, just a little.
- 34:46Confused, I I thought Malcolm. Was black just but so.
- 34:49When did, when did the GS come into play?
- 34:52Cause like now you went, you made a move from Honda.
- 34:54So you now you're in Nissan playing a little bit and then
- 34:57you finally made your way to the top tier automotive brand,
- 35:00Toyota top tier. I know your parents had to be
- 35:03hyped. They're like, finally the good
- 35:06T. Well, by this time they already
- 35:08moved to another state. Oh, OK.
- 35:10Yeah, they moved to Vegas by that time.
- 35:13When did I move to that? 2012 I think.
- 35:17Damn. So this has been with you for
- 35:18well, that's. 14 was with you for a while, yeah.
- 35:20And I sold that to Jake. You guys know Jake?
- 35:24Jake. Rest in peace.
- 35:25Yeah. Oh, wait.
- 35:26That was your car. Yes, yes.
- 35:27Oh shit. I don't know if I knew that.
- 35:30That's crazy. Holy.
- 35:32He hounded me for a long time to buy that car, so I was like,
- 35:35hey, I'm going to sell it. I.
- 35:37Have a question for you that I don't think I know the answer
- 35:38to. Were you on?
- 35:39Were you on Risky Devil? Yes.
- 35:41OK. OK.
- 35:42I probably didn't know that. So it was U2 on Risky Devil and
- 35:45Ilya and. Ilya Yeah, OK, that.
- 35:48S14 was in the summers. Yeah, it was, it was right.
- 35:52Yeah. Then.
- 35:52I think I've definitely seen it 'cause I watched that video like
- 35:55last week. Real quick, dude, you you.
- 35:57We told. It's.
- 35:58Funny, I got you watching that video.
- 35:59But we were telling. Him this shit too.
- 36:01Like that? Those videos?
- 36:03Those summer videos, those. Risky devil videos are what
- 36:08created me as a drifter. No, straight up.
- 36:12I swear to God he says it. All the fucking time, no.
- 36:14It did for sure, huh, like because I would not I maybe I
- 36:18would have gave up or something, but seeing you guys having fun
- 36:20like that, it was like a skate video like it was.
- 36:22That's what. Makes me want to make more.
- 36:24That's what my videos now that I make like they're always just
- 36:27like little bullshit ones because I like, not that they're
- 36:30bullshit, but like it's yeah, dude, it was.
- 36:31Crazy, the man was. Get that motion better like it's
- 36:34like oh, which is. Really cool to hear because
- 36:36Josh, correct me if I'm wrong, we used to get a lot of heat for
- 36:39those videos. Probably you.
- 36:40Probably did. He like, go to the track, yeah.
- 36:46Oh yeah. You know that kind of thing.
- 36:48I mean we. I was just.
- 36:49Ignoring those people, like we have those people by us too,
- 36:51obviously. Like, I mean, Matt Petty is a
- 36:53big track guy now, like, you know, but he's also gone through
- 36:56some shit that, yeah, pretty sad stuff with friends and stuff on
- 36:59the street. So it makes sense.
- 37:01But we were young and, you know, that's what we want to do.
- 37:04So there's a. Wrong way and a right way.
- 37:06And I feel like if you just take your precautionary measures like
- 37:10if and everybody's on the same page, you're really good.
- 37:13About it. Shit can.
- 37:14Happen either way. We had spotters.
- 37:16We went on really weird times of the day where no one's around.
- 37:19Yeah. Dude, do you miss?
- 37:21Those. Do you miss those?
- 37:22Yeah. For sure the times.
- 37:23Of when it was probably a lot more simple to live like.
- 37:27No really though, like and a pair of tires.
- 37:30Would last for a few months because we were just, you know,
- 37:34on the street. Raindrift.
- 37:36Oh yeah. Yes, yo, it's.
- 37:38Drizzling yo-yo, yo-yo yo. Yeah.
- 37:40Seriously, he would call me in the middle of the night and he's
- 37:42like or no, during the day he's like, hey, forecast looks good
- 37:44tonight, are we going out? I didn't have a car at the time.
- 37:47He would just pick me up. That's.
- 37:49Great, I remember the. First time, what did we do?
- 37:52We did a a long extended connection from one corner to
- 37:55the other, 'cause, you know, back then mangis were a thing.
- 37:58And yeah, I remember when we connected at one time, we both
- 38:01were like, wow. This is.
- 38:07Dude, that's I miss that kind of feeling, feeling where you
- 38:12didn't even really, in retrospect, you probably didn't
- 38:15even really do anything too wild, but it was just the
- 38:17feeling of something new like that.
- 38:20And now drifting is so crazy, like everything is kind of new,
- 38:23but not so it's it's, it's like a weird space right now where
- 38:27stuff's just. You could see that the the.
- 38:30I don't know the changes of directions that people want to
- 38:35go, right? And yeah, the importance that
- 38:38they have to them, which is cool to see too, right?
- 38:40I mean everyone has their own Ave. and reasons for doing it,
- 38:44so it's cool to see that everyone can have their own
- 38:46pathway to it. That some.
- 38:49Still suck, that's what. That's what when I saw your car
- 38:52now, well, I saw your S14 and actually after seeing a lot of
- 38:56you guys's cars from this area that we're in, I guess your
- 38:59group, your like immediate friend group.
- 39:02Yeah, they're all low fat, like fitted, but drifting.
- 39:08And then now, like I'm looking at the GS and I'm like I said it
- 39:11earlier, I was like, this thing looks like a fucking war
- 39:14machine, dude. This thing looks bad already
- 39:16'cause it's like a little more ocky like.
- 39:19Well, it's chunky like me, right?
- 39:20Well. The car I feel like has to
- 39:23almost when you look at somebody's car and it's owner,
- 39:26you're almost just like, oh, that's his car.
- 39:28Do you feel that? Way like, yeah.
- 39:30So you don't think I look at my IS and my IS and I'm like, it's
- 39:34not baby girl, OK. But you're saying like the car
- 39:37like matches the owner, like you can like see the owner in the
- 39:40car almost? Yeah, that's.
- 39:42Interesting bro look at. I.
- 39:44Mean, I see it right now Yeah, this this is a good example It's
- 39:47a good example, yeah. And like.
- 39:50Like if you stood Frankie next to his S13 you would know that
- 39:53that's his fucking car too, which is true.
- 39:55Like you. Would.
- 39:56Yeah, maybe Frankie's sitting there.
- 39:58OK, What about Josh? To leave.
- 40:01I don't know if you'd know. That's his car, Josh.
- 40:04He's standing. There, just like this.
- 40:05That's Josh's car. Just angry.
- 40:06Hello, Tom. And his car's pink Tom.
- 40:09TomTom I feel like. Matched with that car, he's.
- 40:11Doing this thing. On it, like all the time.
- 40:13But you know what? It is with Tom's car.
- 40:15I just know the history of that car or well, I'm going to say
- 40:17that car, but that's a new one. Yeah.
- 40:18Yeah, but he's had a total of three now, but the the the last
- 40:22two were in this last three years, so.
- 40:25Yeah, but yeah, the last time he.
- 40:26Rebuilt. I'm like, man, he was quick.
- 40:27Yeah. This time, watch this, he said.
- 40:30Wow. But yeah, Tom.
- 40:32Always like I always when I see Tom's car, I'm like, yeah,
- 40:34that's your car. And I just picture all the
- 40:37different variations of it through the years, 'cause we,
- 40:40when I met Tom, he was like 16 years old.
- 40:42Like he was a kid in the world. How old is Tom?
- 40:44Now. 17 How old is Tom? 2627 maybe?
- 40:50Oh. My God, I think he's like. 27 I
- 40:52don't know how. Old anyone is anymore.
- 40:54That's yeah, sorry. I was like.
- 40:58Who's 7? Years older than him.
- 40:59Me, me, Josh. Are 3334 the least?
- 41:03Yeah, about to be 34. We're probably out of Josh.
- 41:05We're probably the oldest ones then, out of everyone.
- 41:07How's Jimmy? Jimmy is.
- 41:09I think our age, maybe a little younger.
- 41:11He might be. He's my age, yeah.
- 41:12It's like 20. 8:00 and you're. 13, right?
- 41:15Yeah. Oh, wait, what He.
- 41:17Said yeah. Yep.
- 41:19Said yes. Immediately, like that's how
- 41:21I've been living. I've been trying to say no less
- 41:24like like if you'd never. Say no, Carl.
- 41:28You're. You're the yes man.
- 41:29You're trying to say yes. Man, that's literally what I
- 41:31said. I'm trying to do I'm like doing.
- 41:32That for like 5 years. But The thing is, is.
- 41:34I'm at home sometimes now and I'm, I just don't want to go out
- 41:38anymore. So then I'll say no.
- 41:39But then for a while I was just saying no, no, no, no, no.
- 41:42And then you have friends like Frankie where it's like, oh,
- 41:44like you gonna go see this movie that I, I'm not gonna tell you
- 41:46what movie it is, but do you want to go see this movie?
- 41:49What did you take him? Go see, it was alien.
- 41:50The new alien. Was it good?
- 41:52I loved. It did you.
- 41:53It was good. It was just like, I didn't know
- 41:54where that what was going on. So he walks.
- 41:56Out right in the beginning, right.
- 41:57He, like, walks out to go get popcorn.
- 41:58Yeah, They're setting up the whole movie.
- 42:01Like, you see the Xena Moore. If you see everything, you're
- 42:03like, where's Carl? And then the second they start
- 42:06with that, he comes back in and I'm like, oh, he has no idea
- 42:09what this modern. Popcorn did a drink.
- 42:11Bro. And Frankie was sitting very far
- 42:13away from me. Yeah.
- 42:14And. And so now he's watching.
- 42:15Now he's watching. This movie and he's like, no
- 42:17idea. What's going?
- 42:18No. Idea, it's like, it's like the
- 42:20relationship between a robot human and another human.
- 42:22He's probably like, oh, this is like nice, this is interesting.
- 42:25No, I didn't it. It wasn't like that that.
- 42:27The point of The thing is, is that that was an example of me
- 42:30going. You know what, sure, I'm just
- 42:32going to go. Why not?
- 42:33Because I was wanted to go home. I'm tired.
- 42:35I've been We do the. Podcast and sometimes we'll be
- 42:37like, yo, we gotta go see this movie.
- 42:39Yeah, it was having. We were chilling.
- 42:41We were hanging out with Alicia and Brad that day.
- 42:44Yeah, that was fun. They showed up and we had a
- 42:46podcast with them. We were having a fun time.
- 42:47He tried smelling. Salts didn't want to.
- 42:49Kill the vibes dude. I what?
- 42:51Was that it? Fucking.
- 42:52Hurt. Don't tell me you're doing that
- 42:54when you're lifting and stuff. Don't do that.
- 42:57I know people who do that. Like they'll be.
- 43:01Like fucking and. Both.
- 43:03Of them, it was Brad and him, and both of them didn't read the
- 43:05bag or anything. So I was like, yeah, when you
- 43:09open the bag, you're going to smell it.
- 43:10And then mind you, it's in a sealed container with a but you
- 43:14still smell it in the bag. Oh man, dude.
- 43:15They don't. They smell the bag.
- 43:16He's like. Does.
- 43:18That actually work it it. Made.
- 43:21Me involuntarily, just really, I thought I was going to be hurt
- 43:26on yeah they. Both I had to lock.
- 43:27It in. I was I had to lock it in.
- 43:29Lock it in. I put the sunglasses on.
- 43:32I was like, I cannot be caught looking like a dumb ass right
- 43:34now. We gotta put that on.
- 43:35Instagram I put the I. Put the sunglasses on and it
- 43:37felt like I was gonna bleed out of my nose.
- 43:40That's how really violent that feeling was.
- 43:42I've never tried it. I'm not making a good sell right
- 43:46now, but yeah. And then?
- 43:47The second we get in the truck, where the smelling salts do, we
- 43:49have them? I'm like that's when.
- 43:51That's when you would have needed them.
- 43:53Bro when you go drive, when you go oh imagine on grid you just.
- 44:00That would be. Crazy.
- 44:01People probably think we're talking about something
- 44:02different. Yeah, that's crazy Smelling
- 44:04salts. Working out, Yeah, right.
- 44:07Yeah, yeah, dude, I. Don't know man, that's do you
- 44:10know, like, OK, Speaking of like doing something weird on grid.
- 44:14With the. Different things that people are
- 44:16doing now to get their car to do whatever it is that final goal
- 44:19is, which is fast, aggressive, precise drifting, in my opinion,
- 44:24like no one wants a sloppy, aggressive drifter, but you
- 44:27don't want a mundane drifter. So you still want it to be edgy.
- 44:31You think with all of that, like, I don't know, what are
- 44:34some things that you had to change up like from your low
- 44:37lifestyle, You know what I mean? You had to be like, oh, I got to
- 44:40crank these collars up a little bit or, or change something.
- 44:43You had to make changes, right? I hated the.
- 44:45GS for a long time. You hated it.
- 44:48Yeah, it was bad. What did you not?
- 44:50Like about it? It was just so heavy.
- 44:53I mean, of course I knew that, but it's agsi know, but you
- 44:56can't make a. Rhino go through a hurdle or
- 44:58whatever the fuck. I I guess just coming from the
- 45:00S14, I was just so used to everything being easy, right?
- 45:05I feel like with the US chassis, you don't really have to think.
- 45:07Literally went. From the easiest drift car to
- 45:10the one of the harder ones, it took many.
- 45:13Years for me to enjoy it. That's why I don't understand
- 45:16when new kids come into drifting and they grab AGS right away and
- 45:20like this is awesome. Like yeah, I wish I had.
- 45:23Your mentality, because this shit sucked.
- 45:25I mean, you could ask for a seat and.
- 45:27And then I wanted to throw that car away a lot of times.
- 45:30Yeah, yeah. Did you want to get something
- 45:32else first? Like not AGS, maybe like AIS?
- 45:36OK, so I. Had a smaller 1.
- 45:38I had AZ 33 first before I got the GS.
- 45:41Oh yeah, I picked up a wrecked one for cheap and I was just
- 45:45going to fix it and then drive it but we had titling issues so
- 45:49I ended up giving it back and picking up the GS.
- 45:52Why did you get rid of the S14? I don't know if we can cover
- 45:54this. It was just.
- 45:56Something I wanted to change this, try something different.
- 46:00Yeah, not different, but well, yeah, they built the car.
- 46:02Did everything and then you were kind of like, yeah, I don't.
- 46:05Know I have that problem with dailies a lot, so I guess it
- 46:08fell into the it's different. With dailies, though, yeah,
- 46:11dailies, in my opinion, for a little while in my life were
- 46:14dispensable, Not dispensable. But it's like, I feel like
- 46:16trying that one for a little bit.
- 46:18Like, I'll go get that. And then that's when Frankie's
- 46:20like, yo, you're literally just wasting running.
- 46:22Yeah, I just wanted to experience it.
- 46:24Like dude, I had a Celica. It was one of the greatest cars
- 46:27with the car that I had before the Sequoia and oh, that car.
- 46:31Was cool that car. Was awesome.
- 46:33Will I ever will I own it again? No, it was like AST 1.
- 46:39I don't know. It had the four eyes.
- 46:41Oh, OK, OK. It was like AGT 4.
- 46:43That wasn't AGT 4. That's cool.
- 46:44Dude. It was up for $1000.
- 46:47I messaged a guy. He messaged only me.
- 46:49He said I'm only going to respond to you.
- 46:51Now I get there Filipino dude, he's like, I saw you were a
- 46:56Filipino. That's what it was.
- 46:58And I was like, OK, well can I buy the car or no?
- 47:01And he told me there was a head gasket issue.
- 47:03I go there and it's the valve cover gasket.
- 47:06And I was like, Yup, I'm taking this Dito.
- 47:08He's like, you sure it's leaking, leaking oil.
- 47:11I'm like, no don't worry. I I know what to do.
- 47:13I know what to do bro. I had the cleanest interior.
- 47:16It had a very Pinoy interior. Dude, it was.
- 47:20Really, really clean. What did Josh get?
- 47:23Us over there, Spanish. Bread.
- 47:24You might like this. Yeah, I want to try this out.
- 47:29But yeah, no. So what did you have to you?
- 47:31You didn't like that? It was big no.
- 47:33Oh, the GS, yeah. Oh yeah, there was no angle.
- 47:37Oh, OK. So also to be fair, I tried to
- 47:40just start from nothing and modify as as you go, which is
- 47:45like. The what you should do, yeah,
- 47:47like that's what you should be doing.
- 47:49But you kind of knew what you liked or not liked, but you had
- 47:52S14 experience, yeah, So it's hard to do that also there.
- 47:55Was no information on those things.
- 47:59Parts back then were $1,000,000 for it.
- 48:01Any arms what was? Oh damn.
- 48:03Because this is, at the end of the day, a pretty high ticket
- 48:06car, yeah. And and yeah, high, high, high
- 48:12ticket Toyota companies made stuff for it like IKEA formula.
- 48:16No, I don't remember. Anyways, they were a lot.
- 48:19It was a lot of money for everything.
- 48:21So I was like, OK, well, what do I need next?
- 48:25Rear and fail sloppy. Let's try some rear GIF bushings
- 48:2909. After after me and me and Brad
- 48:34just got a conversation. Just got done in conversation
- 48:37like damn I need more serial 9 stuff.
- 48:39Serial. Lime stuff is great.
- 48:41It's so expensive. Though, but that's like the top
- 48:43in my opinion, brand it's really.
- 48:45Good, but it's it's also like a Kevin's.
- 48:48A good dude. Thing.
- 48:49Like that's. Another thing and I.
- 48:51Really want to switch to all their billet stuff because it's
- 48:54just Oh yeah, dude, it just looks cool.
- 48:55Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 48:57But yeah, with the GS, it's just, I don't know, it just it
- 49:01was a difficult time. And the power plant in that, is
- 49:05that a 2J? Yeah.
- 49:06So I bought it with the motor in it.
- 49:09It was in the area down the street and some guy just had it
- 49:13with the. GTE in it.
- 49:14Yeah, I. Was like oh this is really cool.
- 49:17Sick. Sick and.
- 49:20Upping. The power I think would have
- 49:22maybe like starting out with the power high.
- 49:24I I was assuming it was GE still because I do know some people
- 49:28who drifted GEI mean that's what.
- 49:29They're using now because GTS are too expensive.
- 49:32It will never sound the same. True.
- 49:35That's. And, and, and I, I've made this
- 49:37point before, but a good 70% of the reason why I like being in
- 49:42the car is just 'cause I generally like the sounds, the
- 49:46like like little valve or the trans moving like the motor move
- 49:52like going through its paces like on paper.
- 49:57GE turbo is the way. Got A1J, spent double the money
- 50:02literally just so I could hear it.
- 50:03Yeah, because it will not sound the same.
- 50:05Even your two J versus 1J or whatever, it sounds completely
- 50:09different. That extra .5 is not yeah.
- 50:12Yeah, yeah, .5 is a lot. How do you like?
- 50:15Dredging this compared to the S14?
- 50:16I'm assuming I know the answer, but.
- 50:19Maybe I don't, it'd be so much easier if I was just in there.
- 50:22Yeah, it's fun. Don't get me wrong, but I feel
- 50:26like I have to think all the time, yeah.
- 50:28Like you can't just do it. You can't just move.
- 50:30Like naturally, now I can. But it took a long time.
- 50:34Yeah, I kind of. Remember watching you like get
- 50:36used to the. Yeah, it sucked for a long time.
- 50:38I wanted to light on fire. Yeah.
- 50:41Well, props to you for actually keeping it.
- 50:42And yeah, I. Just thought it was so deep into
- 50:45it, and at that point I was like, I just gotta keep going,
- 50:48Yeah. And now it's at a place where
- 50:49it's a lot of fun. Dude, it's so.
- 50:50Gangster when I see this car because again you don't really
- 50:53see you see GSS are a platform for it might like VIP build, but
- 50:58I used to get so. Much hate in the beginning for
- 50:59that I. Is the community like that in
- 51:01the GS world? Oh my God, everyone said I.
- 51:03Ruined it. I should be doing VIP and then I
- 51:06was an idiot. That's I was like, all right,
- 51:09but the running. Gear under there is all normal
- 51:11stuff like it's very similar to IS sub ISJZX.
- 51:17I'll get this to meet design, it's just.
- 51:18A JZX like in my head it's a little.
- 51:21Bigger it's a lot bigger it is. Yeah, 'cause I.
- 51:23Was able to drive a JZX when I went to Japan and it's so much
- 51:26easier. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:27So in what way? Like the long?
- 51:30I just feel like the, oh, the whole.
- 51:32Rear end, I guess looks a little bit.
- 51:33It's long. I mean, I'm not technical in any
- 51:36sort of. Wheelbase stuff and all that
- 51:38wheelbase. I want to say the way that
- 51:41suspension geometry is and the. Weight the weight alone, it must
- 51:45be the. Weight.
- 51:45The weight doesn't. Feel too bad honestly.
- 51:47Yeah, it's just the way the car drives, I've noticed.
- 51:51That when I made the switch from S chassis to something Toyota
- 51:53that the Toyota it doesn't steer as quickly and it doesn't snap
- 51:58as quickly yes. So then that's that's where I'm
- 52:00doing some thinking, yes or well, I might now the heat
- 52:03maker. Stuff I want to.
- 52:05Too I definitely it really changed.
- 52:06The car when I did it, I'm on. A Hey man Knuckle.
- 52:09OK, yeah, but it's not as snappy as it was when I had the little
- 52:15adapter. Things like the drift HQ 1.
- 52:17I don't know because there was in my opinion, I think it lost a
- 52:21decent amount of caster and these cars love caster for
- 52:26drifting in my like. I think it moves it faster.
- 52:30Yeah, the self steer in these cars aren't the same as it's
- 52:32horrible. Yeah, it's horrible.
- 52:33You got to wheel it back. Yeah, that's why it feels.
- 52:36It feels lazier, right, dude, It really does.
- 52:39But that's how. It that's how the Cressida felt
- 52:42too, when I Yeah, yeah. That's a Cressida.
- 52:44Yeah, this feels lazy, Yeah. It's easy.
- 52:45That's why when you see a video of me from in car, I just look
- 52:48like I'm manhandling because that's the only way you could
- 52:50get it to do that stuff. I always thought that.
- 52:52Was just like the wheelbase or some shit but.
- 52:54So for example, when I see somebody driving a B knuckle, I
- 52:56feel like they're barely trying to throw the car and it.
- 52:59Gets to lock, right? Away and it's just with me, I
- 53:02have to be like, you ever see a a boat and like they're trying
- 53:07to turn just a little. This is like choppy doing
- 53:11entries with the. Thing the little knob.
- 53:14Yeah. No.
- 53:15But really, when I do throw the wheel, I really have to throw
- 53:17and then feed when. We're when we get done with
- 53:20this, I'm going to show you what I I've screenshotted what I look
- 53:22like after the first it faint and dude, there's a a screenshot
- 53:27of me where I'm. About to.
- 53:29Because like I, I pull it that way, Yeah.
- 53:32You know it's cool though. Spins.
- 53:34When Bai came last year, he actually showed me a technique.
- 53:39Oops, sorry. That changed it.
- 53:40Where, You know, a lot of us, when we drive, we initiate like
- 53:44this. Yeah, just what is this, 10 and
- 53:46two or whatever? It is.
- 53:47He would actually. Grab the wheel like this over
- 53:51here and then initiate for an extra step.
- 53:54So he'd be. Driving like that?
- 53:55No, no, no. He would be like this, but then
- 53:57instead of just going like this, he would move that step.
- 54:00Oh, I was. Like I don't.
- 54:02Even know what I'm doing, There's so many.
- 54:04Little things, the Japanese drivers are like crazy.
- 54:06They're way ahead. And you know he doesn't.
- 54:09Speak English well. So when he gave me a ride, he
- 54:10was just grunting and using his hands, but it made sense.
- 54:15Yeah, that's so. Cool, I'm so.
- 54:17I always try to. I've been trying to analyze that
- 54:19a little bit more, like what I'm doing with my hands feel like.
- 54:22Always you, you've always been into like analyzing.
- 54:25That's to look. Good too, right?
- 54:26Like that I think. You got to look cool you.
- 54:28Got to look good. I don't want to.
- 54:29Be in there going. I don't think.
- 54:31You never want. To be like this?
- 54:33Yeah, You don't. Never.
- 54:33Cross because then you go hey, what's that guy doing?
- 54:37I also. Switched steering wheels from a
- 54:38350 deep corn to a 350 flat. I like.
- 54:42Flywheels 'cause I would hit. My balls sometimes.
- 54:44Oh my. God.
- 54:47Jesus, imagine mid transition you just hear somebody.
- 54:51You know, Bursby does those comps.
- 54:53I forgot what it's called. Where does he do them?
- 54:55Hyperdrift at US Air. I was doing a competition on
- 54:59tandem with a friend of mine, Yvonne, and I was in front and I
- 55:03spun out, He said What happened? Man, I'm like, going to be
- 55:06honest, I nicked my balls and it hurt really bad.
- 55:11Yeah, so I was done. Just dude.
- 55:14Yeah. I was done.
- 55:14I was like, I just stopped. Yeah, that's a problem.
- 55:17That's a. Problem I couldn't.
- 55:18Drive through it. That's a problem that has.
- 55:19To be addressed, yeah. That.
- 55:22Happens on the simulate like I have a settle now so that that's
- 55:26that happens and I'm like it's just the.
- 55:28Way I sit, I'm a little bit more elevated in the front of my leg,
- 55:32yeah, I don't have big balls or anything.
- 55:34It's just. No, they're huge.
- 55:37That's why they're touching the steering wheel, you know, Gotta
- 55:40go into. Detail, you know, that's fine.
- 55:41Mine is so small it's not hitting.
- 55:43Carl. Nice.
- 55:46But no, that's, that's so interesting though, 'cause now
- 55:48hearing somebody else with that kind of opinion on how the lazy
- 55:51steering is, I didn't understand it.
- 55:53And I thought that it was people making, making an excuse.
- 55:56So I'm like, oh, I can drive that.
- 55:57Don't get me. Wrong though, Like sometimes I
- 55:59Daydream about getting a that's chassis again.
- 56:01Oh. God, that was my next question.
- 56:03I look. Forward to the day because.
- 56:05Now, you could probably. I'm curious, when people do
- 56:09something like that, they revert back.
- 56:10Yeah, They they. Lapse.
- 56:12Right. Your your ability now to build
- 56:14that car is going to be I'm curious like what your take on
- 56:17it would be. I don't think I.
- 56:18Have the dedication anymore to build another car though.
- 56:21Yeah I just the mindset and the had space to do it.
- 56:25Yeah this is already done. It's fine.
- 56:26What are you trying? To get into now like I, I know
- 56:29like years are going to start flying by because you know,
- 56:31you're up there. What the fuck?
- 56:33I heard that when I'm going to die.
- 56:34Tomorrow when I I heard. That when you get up there, the
- 56:37years are flying by, they do get shorter, but the but the things
- 56:40that you want to go do like you, you achieve them like quick, not
- 56:44quicker, but like you're you're doing things quicker.
- 56:47So like if you'd built an S14, I don't think that it would be
- 56:50sitting for like a fucking. No, it's not that.
- 56:53It's just I'm already have this here and it's at a point where
- 56:56it's enjoyable and I can do a lot of things that I wish I
- 57:02could have done in the last 14. I think I'm at that place now.
- 57:04So I'm just going to leave it. It's also.
- 57:06Like people are always, oh, so what's your next car going to be
- 57:09or what's what's another car you would drift this?
- 57:11And I was like, well, I know how to build this car, so probably
- 57:14just this. Yeah, I think so, because.
- 57:17Some people. I mean, some people like
- 57:18learning and doing all this stuff, but like I'm just using
- 57:21myself as an example. Like I know an S chassis like
- 57:25the back of my hand. If I wanted to all of a sudden
- 57:27do an FD Arc 7, now I'm learning all over again.
- 57:31I think that's the. Other part of it, right?
- 57:32I just don't want to go through all that again, yeah.
- 57:34It is a lot. It's kind of why I try to pick
- 57:37something that I hopefully know a little bit about and you can
- 57:39like. Master it easier if you take
- 57:41your time and do that for a long time.
- 57:42You know what I mean? That because that's.
- 57:44Kind of what you did. With this car, you're like, it's
- 57:46been a. Long time.
- 57:47What is it, 14 years now? That's crazy.
- 57:50A long time. Holy shit.
- 57:51Dude, you know what's crazy? Wow.
- 57:53I know a handful of people too now that are still driving the
- 57:57car that they drove 14 years ago to and they and it shows because
- 58:02if you had this 14 years and you didn't care about it, it would
- 58:05not look like this. Yeah, you know, it looks.
- 58:06Pretty bad right now then, I don't think.
- 58:08So job and people. I.
- 58:09Didn't bring my car here for a reason.
- 58:12People that change. Cars and chassis more often.
- 58:14They usually don't ever like execute a really, really nice
- 58:18build in my opinion. I know there's some outliers
- 58:21that exist. Jimmy Oaks is one of them
- 58:23probably, but there's like some people that they just change the
- 58:26car every other three. Honestly, Carl, you were one of
- 58:29them. Those people I know.
- 58:30Bro, I knew it was coming. He was one of those people.
- 58:32He loves using me as an example for this shit.
- 58:34He's like, I'm going. To get this, but we just talked.
- 58:36About it we like I wanted to experience those things like I
- 58:38had S chassis. I thought I knew a lot about S
- 58:41chassis. I thought, Oh my gosh, this is
- 58:43the car right? I really like like this is sick
- 58:46and then when I got the ISI daily drove the IS so much and I
- 58:50spent so much time fixing the IS that I ended up learning more
- 58:53about the IS so now I'm like why wouldn't I drift this?
- 58:55This is what I need to be in so that I know this.
- 58:58If it breaks here, I can do this and he was but.
- 59:00Even when we first started doing the podcast and everything you
- 59:03were thinking about, I was getting another car.
- 59:05He was always looking. I was so.
- 59:07Close to and then you. Stopped.
- 59:09I was. So close and I was like.
- 59:10Thank God I saw. You could tell I was.
- 59:13So close to getting rid of it dude.
- 59:15He's always wanted S chassis. Yeah, because I did the.
- 59:17CD swap like 17 times on the ground.
- 59:20Yeah, I didn't like that anymore.
- 59:21You probably probably. Didn't know that I.
- 59:23I could have that trans in and out in an hour and a half.
- 59:26That's awesome. Down and out, it's really bad.
- 59:28That's good. Though that's really.
- 59:29Good you know it though now just fourteens.
- 59:31Seventeens, nineteens and a bunch of those extensions and
- 59:34luckily. That transmission is the most
- 59:35popular transmission and drifting so that fell.
- 59:38On me once and I started going to the gym again, like right
- 59:40after it fell and I was the only one home.
- 59:44Oh, I wanted fight or flight, baby.
- 59:47That's one of those. It was, it was, it was here.
- 59:50And when it came down, I couldn't get it back.
- 59:53Up. Get it back.
- 59:54Up pause. But I had to it was a huge wake
- 59:59up call 'cause I was like, no one's home.
- 1:00:01What am I going to yell at my neighbor who already hates the
- 1:00:04fact that I'm doing this stuff? Like yo, I just, I just like.
- 1:00:10Tossed it. Out and the cars only up in the
- 1:00:12air so high like I didn't really have a lot of room.
- 1:00:15Went to the gym right after that.
- 1:00:17I bet you. Can bench now now.
- 1:00:19I'm see. Look at those Cavs, dude.
- 1:00:22No. Don't, don't, don't, don't.
- 1:00:24What does Josh get? Oh dude, Josh got.
- 1:00:26A fucking way. Dude, he's got the good ones.
- 1:00:29He's got the good we were talking about.
- 1:00:30Cavs earlier we were talking about.
- 1:00:31Cavs yo-yo that's look at dude that he just flexed on us.
- 1:00:36For real Miyagi's. Got the Cavs though.
- 1:00:38Now I got to find Miyagi. Yeah, No, he's.
- 1:00:41Really, I wish he. Was coming dude, because I feel
- 1:00:43like you and him would get along really well you've met him
- 1:00:45before I'm sure but yeah I think you guys because he loves big
- 1:00:49body cars like that too like he has a Cressida and just
- 1:00:51literally the. Same color type it really is.
- 1:00:53Like. Yeah, and Miyagi has all of
- 1:00:55this, Yeah. They really are similar people.
- 1:00:58Yeah, this. Is actually really?
- 1:01:00Yeah. So you got to show me a.
- 1:01:02Picture of him later, yeah, yeah, I.
- 1:01:03Don't have that's be weird. That's Do you have pictures of
- 1:01:06your Do you have pictures? Of your friend's cabs.
- 1:01:10Oh. There's one photo.
- 1:01:12There's one. Photo of Miyagi when he was
- 1:01:13still juicing crazy and he was in the video just giving a peace
- 1:01:18sign. And dude, there's just he's just
- 1:01:22throwing a peace sign. There's stop.
- 1:01:23Behind that crazy. You know he.
- 1:01:25Just masculine. And then there's also another
- 1:01:28photo at the East Coast Bash Club, loose with Alex Avila from
- 1:01:31Front Street. And Miyagi.
- 1:01:32He's naked. They're fucking.
- 1:01:33Naked Miyagi's got a fucking What do you call it?
- 1:01:37For cooking. Cooking.
- 1:01:39Oh, apron apron. He's got an apron on and Alex is
- 1:01:41next to it. Alex is like licking the hot dog
- 1:01:43and the thing and they bought dude.
- 1:01:44I'm like, this is the I've never seen his.
- 1:01:46Picture I've never ever heard of this picture.
- 1:01:48You've never seen that photo. No.
- 1:01:50I don't need to see it right now.
- 1:01:52I want to go have the pizza at some point and I want to think
- 1:01:54about Alex Ass. Do you want?
- 1:01:56Sausage pizza? What?
- 1:01:58Whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:02:01Is that what we put in? No, we should.
- 1:02:03Talk about the. Pizza.
- 1:02:04I want to put chop on blast right now because we were
- 1:02:06talking about the pizza since today's the pizza day where we
- 1:02:09all go get pizza. Pequots Every.
- 1:02:11Day, every day. Every Thursday, yeah, I always
- 1:02:14been bad, Chop Chop said. I kind of like, think roast
- 1:02:17pizza. Well, I.
- 1:02:18Kind of I, Well, no. What?
- 1:02:19Was blowing my mind is that is that's that's another staple
- 1:02:22here but no one talks about that.
- 1:02:24I guess all we're talking, I told.
- 1:02:25You which I still. Think I would like bro because
- 1:02:27when? You go to, I told you, when you
- 1:02:28go to Disney World, you go to see Mickey Mouse.
- 1:02:30You don't go to see Donald Duck. Yeah, not.
- 1:02:33That some. People like it's having pizza or
- 1:02:35anything. I'm going to use that.
- 1:02:36I'm going to use that as like, that's an underdog type of
- 1:02:38reference. Like I'm like, yo, don't forget
- 1:02:40about the other homies. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:41Yeah, yeah. I kind of.
- 1:02:42Want to try that pizza? You know it's.
- 1:02:44Just like going to see, I don't know the bean.
- 1:02:47Yeah, right. Like you got to see this pie.
- 1:02:52That's how I. Felt.
- 1:02:53I mean, it's good. I like it.
- 1:02:54I just. I really only eat it when you
- 1:02:55guys are here. Yeah, Josh, I think eats it more
- 1:02:58often, right? Josh likes it, Yeah.
- 1:03:00Yeah. It's really good.
- 1:03:02It's just man, you got to like starve yourself for a few days.
- 1:03:07It's a lot. It's a lot, yeah.
- 1:03:10I can maybe eat 2, maybe. Yeah.
- 1:03:13But I can eat a whole fucking Jack's pizza, you know, one of
- 1:03:15those frozen joints. Yeah.
- 1:03:16I mean, OK. So like Domino's, when I order
- 1:03:19from Domino's, on the occasion that I do, they have this one
- 1:03:23where it's a pan where it's cheese all on the top.
- 1:03:26He thinks, he thinks. This is the is that?
- 1:03:27What would that be? What I'm getting No.
- 1:03:32Shit, that's what he thinks he's.
- 1:03:34Getting I'm like, dude, you can't say that, no.
- 1:03:36He's never. Had it?
- 1:03:37No, sorry, no. Never had it.
- 1:03:40Every year we've come here, I'm like Frankie, we're going to go
- 1:03:42see our friends over there, right?
- 1:03:43When are you? Leaving for the track I.
- 1:03:46Don't know? Well, that's.
- 1:03:47Tomorrow. Tomorrow's busy as fuck.
- 1:03:48No, no, no. I'm sure is it I would say.
- 1:03:50Today. I will go and get you a personal
- 1:03:53pan pizza at some point. What are we doing?
- 1:03:55Tomorrow. That's busy as fuck.
- 1:03:56Oh, you don't. Know what time are you?
- 1:03:58Leaving tomorrow, Same. Deals today or early 8:00 AM.
- 1:04:01Yeah. I don't.
- 1:04:02Know anything? Yeah, damn.
- 1:04:04So I really had. Well, we can do.
- 1:04:06It on the way back too on Monday we can I really.
- 1:04:08Had a poor impression on what I was going to be today, which is
- 1:04:10which is. I thought it was going to be
- 1:04:11like a. Pan thing we could or.
- 1:04:14No they don't. No, bro.
- 1:04:15No, no, no. I've had my boy breakfast
- 1:04:17already. I'm I'm kind of already.
- 1:04:18Yeah, this is great. OK, OK.
- 1:04:20Yeah. But no, he'll he'll learn.
- 1:04:22He'll learn soon. It's fun.
- 1:04:23Dude, I just coming here every year.
- 1:04:26I'm going to say every year because I feel like we're going
- 1:04:27to go next year as well, and hopefully the year after that.
- 1:04:29As long as you guys keep having these.
- 1:04:31Yeah, like it's kind of nuts. Did you see what it looked like
- 1:04:34yesterday? It was.
- 1:04:36Freaking dude, it's nuts. More nuts every year, right?
- 1:04:38And then? Josh is just standing right in
- 1:04:40the middle of a dude. I was like, he's taking it.
- 1:04:42In look at this. This is crazy.
- 1:04:45Like that was a really. Yeah.
- 1:04:50Hundreds of people. It was cool.
- 1:04:51Now the. Coolest part, we came in like we
- 1:04:53got here yesterday after the first pre meet started.
- 1:04:57Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we're driving and Carl, right
- 1:04:59when Carl said he's like, damn, I didn't see any cool cars or
- 1:05:01anything so far. And then we like rolled in and
- 1:05:04right when we're getting off the highway, fucking Derek from
- 1:05:06breaking and someone else's they'd fucking drive by.
- 1:05:09Imagine. Being a regular person and
- 1:05:11seeing that, oh dude, that's. Crazy, right?
- 1:05:12Yeah. When I when I, when we're
- 1:05:14driving up, all I could think about is like, look at all these
- 1:05:17people driving past and they have no idea the.
- 1:05:20Amount of it? What is going on?
- 1:05:22That got even better. Because then we get into our
- 1:05:23hotel room and it's overlooking that highway and all you guys
- 1:05:27are driving by, so the meat must have been somewhere down there.
- 1:05:29And then the next dude it looked.
- 1:05:31Really cool, actually. It's like, what is going on here
- 1:05:35right now? Yeah, it's it's cool.
- 1:05:36Man that I honestly I like that part more than the track this
- 1:05:40whole. Thing right now.
- 1:05:41Yeah, I'd have to agree. You know, I'm, I enjoy the
- 1:05:45people part of everything, yeah. Yeah, it sounds like.
- 1:05:48You guys have been enjoying that part, which is great because I
- 1:05:51feel like otherwise people aren't going to like it's just
- 1:05:54an event. Then if that was gone, if you
- 1:05:56take the people aspect out of it, like the the like talk to
- 1:06:00the car, what was that? Well, he talks to.
- 1:06:02His cars, yeah. Do I talk to my car?
- 1:06:04No, actually I do. You definitely do.
- 1:06:06I'd definitely. Be like, come on baby, just a
- 1:06:09little bit. Yeah, you're right though.
- 1:06:13Like. You take away the cards and you
- 1:06:15have a lot of friends to hang out.
- 1:06:16Yeah, it's. It's still fun, Yeah, that's
- 1:06:18why. That's why.
- 1:06:19Even I never really thought about it, but that is why final
- 1:06:21bout is pretty cool. Why it's the three days before.
- 1:06:24Yeah, yeah. 1000%, dude, last last year, Josh, we had, we had
- 1:06:29a podcast with Josh, we had podcast with Bayside, we had
- 1:06:32podcast with Dave. Yeah.
- 1:06:34Met a lot of people we. Met so many people and then I
- 1:06:37got home from that and started working on my own shit like I
- 1:06:41paint now paint. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:06:45I. Wanted to get into it and was
- 1:06:47asking people a little like people back and forth about it.
- 1:06:50Never know what to do. Now I'm doing it.
- 1:06:52Remind me? To send you my OK so last year
- 1:06:56of college I finished all of my normal credits so I had to take
- 1:07:01a bunch of electives that had nothing to do with my major
- 1:07:04because I didn't have enough. Oh, this sounds.
- 1:07:05Fun. This sounds fun.
- 1:07:06Bowling twice. Bowling.
- 1:07:09Bowling. I did.
- 1:07:10I did day bowling. I did night bowling.
- 1:07:13I took gym class. But the funniest and hardest one
- 1:07:16was a painting class. No, this is.
- 1:07:17I was like painting. I could do that.
- 1:07:21Yeah. 3 credits. Whatever.
- 1:07:22Easy. Hardest class of my life.
- 1:07:24Oh, they're telling. You about composition and I was
- 1:07:26just. Even just trying to lay the
- 1:07:27paint on the paper. Yeah, I got to send you.
- 1:07:30They made us do a self-portrait. OK, I need to see that I need to
- 1:07:35send. It to you guys I don't know if
- 1:07:36you guys remember club of far jam I wore one of those luchador
- 1:07:38masks yeah yeah, I'll just send it to you but I did you probably
- 1:07:41looked. Cool as hell in that thing I
- 1:07:43look like. I feel like Rey Mysterio, you
- 1:07:45know? But anyways, I did a painting of
- 1:07:47that and I look cross eyed and just it was terrible.
- 1:07:53I gotta send it to you dude. I'm.
- 1:07:54Not I'm not painting art, I'd be painting cars and shit like they
- 1:07:58what? The fuck are we talking lately?
- 1:08:00Yeah, but it's a little. Similar.
- 1:08:02I like. It's grown up arts and crafts,
- 1:08:04that's why. Oh, you painted that?
- 1:08:05One dudes car just before you left.
- 1:08:07We were talking about that last night.
- 1:08:08I'm like Carl's painting right now, aren't they?
- 1:08:10I painted like 2 I. Would painted a body kit really
- 1:08:12quick before we left. It was a Urus.
- 1:08:15Oh, the I did a JZX. It was my second car I've ever
- 1:08:18painted that's black. I was like, dude, Are you sure?
- 1:08:21Yeah. Like.
- 1:08:22Are you sure you mean the cool part is?
- 1:08:23Everyone knows Carl started painting, so like everyone's on
- 1:08:26the same page. They're all like Carl just
- 1:08:28started learning. So this is going to come out a
- 1:08:30certain way. That doesn't mean.
- 1:08:31Nothing. That car went right into week
- 1:08:33fest the day after that and you. Were and you were.
- 1:08:37Fucking black. Really nice, really nice, nice
- 1:08:40finish. Cut and buff Two end to end in
- 1:08:43house. Cut and buff.
- 1:08:44Yeah, my. Roommate was a detailer.
- 1:08:46I I've managed to be like, wait, dude, you want some money?
- 1:08:49I'll tie in you. I'll upsell, cut and buff if you
- 1:08:52are willing to do them. Yeah, that's cool.
- 1:08:54And now, yeah. Welcome to Body Town.
- 1:08:57Body Town USA, I'm saying. Body Town.
- 1:09:01Body Town. USA in the back of his fucking
- 1:09:02house. That's funny.
- 1:09:03Yeah, I. Totally thought you were talking
- 1:09:04about portrait painting, no? Actually, I'm kind.
- 1:09:07Of nice at that, damn it. Now I'm going to show you what
- 1:09:10it looks like the hardest. Class I ever took.
- 1:09:11The hardest selective I ever took was that movie class Movie.
- 1:09:14Yeah, like. I thought it was going to be
- 1:09:16really easy. But we watch movies.
- 1:09:18Yeah, we watch movies. Cool.
- 1:09:20No, they had me watch Citizen Kane.
- 1:09:23The. Rosebud movie with the sled had
- 1:09:26me analyze why he wanted the sled and I'd never watched
- 1:09:29anything. I got into a motorcycle accident
- 1:09:32leaving that class. That class gave me more hell
- 1:09:34than anything else. Like it was just random.
- 1:09:36You ride. Motorcycles I do Cool.
- 1:09:38Do you have motorcycles? I used.
- 1:09:40To I sold it. Tell me.
- 1:09:41What you have, Sean, tell me what you had.
- 1:09:43Oh. Well, I started out with a
- 1:09:46Ducati Monster, OK, And then I got a Harley Street Bob, yo.
- 1:09:51Yo and then chop on the chopping tin is.
- 1:09:55And then I had a wow, I didn't even know.
- 1:10:00What it was, I think just a police bike.
- 1:10:03I can't even think right now what year.
- 1:10:05Soft. Head the police.
- 1:10:06Bike Oh, like a bigger. Oh, you had a not the street.
- 1:10:10Glide or the Road Glide, but the Faring Rd.
- 1:10:12King Rd. King, Yeah, at Road King, dude,
- 1:10:14you probably. Look cool as hell on that.
- 1:10:16I felt cool. I don't know if I look cool I.
- 1:10:19Felt cool. Did you know that there's a
- 1:10:20crazy Filipino community for, for Harley-Davidson?
- 1:10:23That of course they, they, they, there's a group by me, Filipino,
- 1:10:27they had a Laconia or no, a Sturgis ride out group for just
- 1:10:33Filipinos and Harley. Yeah. 30 of them I.
- 1:10:36Was like, Oh my God, I would that's looks like hell, but Carl
- 1:10:38he. Had a Dyna, so you know, yeah.
- 1:10:40That was my favorite bike was the Dyna.
- 1:10:43I did a burnout on that thing too.
- 1:10:45I have AI have a video of it I bet so we all have.
- 1:10:47Bikes like Dyna's in new softails and he wants to just
- 1:10:49get a chopper and be different and we're all like, can we just
- 1:10:52get the same bike so we I like. I like the chopper thing because
- 1:10:57I make it mine like that's part of the reason why I like my
- 1:11:00back. Couldn't.
- 1:11:01Take it though, yeah. I'm kind of nervous about that,
- 1:11:04but my bike right now ain't exactly soft.
- 1:11:07Like I have like really short shocks on it.
- 1:11:09Like it's got to not be working. But I had cruise.
- 1:11:13Control on the Road King. That was nice.
- 1:11:14Yeah. See.
- 1:11:15That, that sounds great, that sounds great, but I just need
- 1:11:17the bike to cruise over 7570 'cause my excess right now is
- 1:11:21not doing that. It's like cruising at 60 and
- 1:11:24then on the highway where it's speed limit 65 and people are
- 1:11:27doing 80. It's really sketchy, but I would
- 1:11:31like a Harley. I feel like that's next on my
- 1:11:33list. Mainly just cause like I didn't
- 1:11:35think that that's something that I would like you.
- 1:11:37Know what I did? I brought him to the Harley
- 1:11:39Museum on the way up to. Last year.
- 1:11:41That place ruined me. I was like, this culture is
- 1:11:44sick. Like it.
- 1:11:45It's all about the underdog fight right here.
- 1:11:46Like they that brand for a little while was they made it so
- 1:11:51that they can be worked on and now, now.
- 1:11:55I don't know. No, I don't think.
- 1:11:56So, but it's like a dying. Breed now, yeah.
- 1:11:58All the dealerships by me are closing.
- 1:12:00The one I bought my net closed. Really.
- 1:12:01Yeah, yeah. I mean.
- 1:12:03Everybody wants to ride. Anymore, well, at least the
- 1:12:05younger generation, the bikes are.
- 1:12:07Getting different they're they're changing now, which some
- 1:12:09people are happy about and some people are not.
- 1:12:11I'm one of the people that are definitely not.
- 1:12:12I would rather be air cooled forever and slow it's.
- 1:12:15Just ancient to maintain, yeah, right.
- 1:12:17And. But now they're like, oh, we got
- 1:12:19to water cool it. It's got to be, it's got to
- 1:12:21compete with India Cruise. Control.
- 1:12:22Yeah, dude, I can't. Wait to see dude with the
- 1:12:24chopping tin. I'm going to have cool little
- 1:12:26swag. Let me go go find.
- 1:12:27Go to an antique mark market and see a freaking little bell that
- 1:12:30I like and just hang it off the frame.
- 1:12:33Do that with your Dyna. He's going to have a.
- 1:12:34Filipino flag on his dude. It's going.
- 1:12:36To have like a little one somewhere just to let people
- 1:12:39know like yo this is this is a Filipino ass bike right here.
- 1:12:43Why'd you get rid of the bike, kids?
- 1:12:44No, no, I I wanted an M3. Oh, OK.
- 1:12:48So OK, yeah. Oh, that's.
- 1:12:50Right, you had the E90. Yeah.
- 1:12:52Did you miss that one? Yeah, that.
- 1:12:54Was fun I do but after the third kid I was like I can't make the
- 1:13:00wife drive a separate car so I could drive the M3 so.
- 1:13:05There it is. The.
- 1:13:07Escalade. The Escalade.
- 1:13:08On. On.
- 1:13:11Lower, it's lowered, has a side exit.
- 1:13:14Thanks, Daniel. Can't.
- 1:13:15Can't. Leave anything alone it seems
- 1:13:17like, unfortunately. Not that's why.
- 1:13:19I like the chop. I'm telling you.
- 1:13:20It's like adding your little twist on stuff.
- 1:13:23You can't leave something stock. I bet no one in this room can
- 1:13:27leave something. That's true.
- 1:13:28Actually it'd. Probably be better though if we
- 1:13:30did well him. That was the.
- 1:13:33Question left the CC stock for a long time, finally bought wheels
- 1:13:36for it. He was really good immediately.
- 1:13:39How many years? Did you have that thing before
- 1:13:40you even did anything? Nine years?
- 1:13:43That's a long time. That is a long time Volks we're.
- 1:13:46Talking about a Volkswagen or. Something, yeah.
- 1:13:50Dude, I don't know, I like I, I, I'm not even a creative.
- 1:13:53Flag or anything like that. Do you?
- 1:13:55Like, I feel a lot of us right now, we we're all doing more
- 1:14:00than just drifting. And that's what I like to see.
- 1:14:02Yeah. Like, yeah.
- 1:14:03Yeah, you just built that. Thing.
- 1:14:04With their help, not just me, yeah.
- 1:14:07Well, Eric, so I saw that. Going on the last like week or
- 1:14:09two, you probably had no idea. Like I was you.
- 1:14:12You were like, why is he doing this?
- 1:14:14I was so. Confused.
- 1:14:15I'm so confused. I was like doing.
- 1:14:16I was like, I thought he was a a corporate guy but now I'm
- 1:14:19thinking he might work at the shop and this I was like all
- 1:14:22confused. But when did you start working
- 1:14:24here again? Thanksgiving.
- 1:14:26Of last year, yeah, it was really recent.
- 1:14:28I had like a just AI don't know what do they say?
- 1:14:33Just a epiphany or something. I just got really tired of the
- 1:14:36corporate environment. I got let go from my job at one
- 1:14:41point and I was just like, do I want to do this again?
- 1:14:44You know, it was really toxic. Do I really want to push myself
- 1:14:46to go into that same environment?
- 1:14:47Because I know it's going to be like that.
- 1:14:48You guys can. Relate a lot on this topic.
- 1:14:51Because the problem with the industry that I was working, the
- 1:14:54industry I was working for, we all knew each other.
- 1:14:55So even if I go to a different company, we're still going to
- 1:14:58have to deal with the same people.
- 1:15:00So I was like, I don't know. And then he offered, he's like,
- 1:15:03hey, do you want to come learn? I was like, that's the.
- 1:15:06That's the word for me. I'm like, yo, I get to learn
- 1:15:08some shit. But.
- 1:15:09It was just hard, right? Because you know, obviously it
- 1:15:12the corporate pay versus, you know, just different pay.
- 1:15:15So my wife had to really step up, but step up and kind of be
- 1:15:20the breadwinner and support this process, which I'm very thankful
- 1:15:25for because she she's seen a change in my demeanour with not
- 1:15:31having to be there. So I think it's something that I
- 1:15:34want to stick to for a while. Plus, we got this guy.
- 1:15:39Brad. 'S like what, what what what?
- 1:15:41What do I have to do with anything?
- 1:15:42Him and I. Met a long time ago because I
- 1:15:44sold him car parts and we've just talked here and there kept
- 1:15:48up, not really kept up with each other, but just, hey, how's it
- 1:15:51going? He bought a, he bought a dirt
- 1:15:53bike for me. Oh, OK, a street legal dirt bike
- 1:15:55for me. It was Yamaha 125 or something
- 1:16:00like that. Dirt bike Street Legal a 12:00.
- 1:16:03Boy or something? No.
- 1:16:05It was my dad's. Oh, OK.
- 1:16:08And then eventually he was like, oh, he saw my story that I
- 1:16:11worked in. He's like, oh, you guys hiring?
- 1:16:13And it was a joke. And now he's here.
- 1:16:16And then Saddle's here, too. I was.
- 1:16:17Going to say does. He work here first, but so it
- 1:16:19was the opposite almost, yeah. And I get to learn from him too,
- 1:16:22which is really cool. I think as you grow older, the
- 1:16:25ability to accept that you still want to learn is very important.
- 1:16:29And to be like, I'm not good at this, I need somebody else to
- 1:16:34teach me. I am that the smartest person on
- 1:16:38this topic. I need this person in my life or
- 1:16:42I don't know everything. Please help and please teach me.
- 1:16:45I think that's a hard thing to do as an adult.
- 1:16:47Yeah, I'm getting. I'm getting the sense.
- 1:16:50That that's so. Fucking relatable baby.
- 1:16:53I'm literally I know my phone just vibrated in a way where
- 1:16:55it's a outlook notification too so.
- 1:16:58Are you a corporate guy right now?
- 1:17:00What do you do for? I do both.
- 1:17:01I'm a contract analyst for finance tech company.
- 1:17:05His mom is very proud for sure. Yeah.
- 1:17:06That sounds serious. That's awesome.
- 1:17:08No, my mom is disappointed they're still.
- 1:17:09Disappointed because once he's talked about car she's.
- 1:17:12She's disappointed as hell and me because she's like you work
- 1:17:14at you got this nice job, like where the hell is all your
- 1:17:16money? And I'm like.
- 1:17:19Look at my paint booth. Wow, look at this one J.
- 1:17:24But like I, I don't got to be happy too.
- 1:17:26Though yeah, it's. It's the, it's that part, yeah.
- 1:17:29It's like I don't want to follow the trend that I just, yeah, you
- 1:17:38just like you sit in there, you sit in there till the end of
- 1:17:40your life just working, working, working, working, working.
- 1:17:44And then you're just like, at some point I feel like I just
- 1:17:48want to have fun. Josh.
- 1:17:50Josh is Josh is over here because he's a success story,
- 1:17:52OK? This is a success story.
- 1:17:53This is a successful guy that that managed to do both.
- 1:17:57Yeah, 'cause like Josh has one of the sickest garages.
- 1:18:00We all know this. Yeah.
- 1:18:01But like he managed to do both and like I've I've, I'm trying
- 1:18:05to do both and like I find one taking more time and attention
- 1:18:08than the other. And it shouldn't be like that.
- 1:18:10Like I'm at work thinking about painting and then when I'm
- 1:18:13painting, I don't think about work.
- 1:18:15You got to find a. Balance.
- 1:18:16So clearly I'm I'm I'm favoring one than the other and when I go
- 1:18:20into there I know what I need to do.
- 1:18:22The work is easy as hell. I hate to be complaining about
- 1:18:25the work. I'm picking up a mouse and
- 1:18:27dragging it. It should not be hard, but for
- 1:18:30some reason I'm sitting there brain melting, rotting, and then
- 1:18:33I get out of work and my muscles are just like lethargic because
- 1:18:36I've been sitting there for all day long.
- 1:18:38And then I had to fake the way that I'm talking because I
- 1:18:41somebody's I'm worried that somebody's going to get offended
- 1:18:44because I said, why is this so slow?
- 1:18:46Get this to my desk now 'cause I need to get this out.
- 1:18:49Yeah, that's rude. You.
- 1:18:51Are you? Are rude though.
- 1:18:52That's rude. He's rude.
- 1:18:54To me all the time. Hurry up.
- 1:18:55Maybe your old ass shouldn't be behind a computer.
- 1:18:59Seriously though, I mean as per. My last e-mail.
- 1:19:01It's my favorite 11. Two and then.
- 1:19:05Bam. Right off like it's.
- 1:19:08Just bad. It's just.
- 1:19:09Horrible. You know, Carl had a bad day
- 1:19:10when he gets to the podcast at like 6 or whatever and he's, you
- 1:19:13just see him. He's he's.
- 1:19:15Just smoking. Cigarettes if I'm.
- 1:19:17Early. The reason I left, if I'm early
- 1:19:18to the podcast, that's the. Reason I had a good.
- 1:19:21Day. Oh, a good day.
- 1:19:22Because I'm like, I cleared out the inbox.
- 1:19:24I got all this work done. Oh, cookies for Frankie, No
- 1:19:28problem. And then if it's like I'm there
- 1:19:31at 6:30 on the dot, I'm like, dude, I had a fucking shit day.
- 1:19:34Yeah, it's. Not good.
- 1:19:35It's not fun man, but it's. Nice to hear from other people
- 1:19:39like like dude, you went from a non labour to I don't know
- 1:19:44really what you were doing, but non just like this to now you're
- 1:19:48you do different things every day.
- 1:19:50But now I'm over there. Oh.
- 1:19:52OK, but I. Yeah, it was bad.
- 1:19:55I just. You're around.
- 1:19:56Different things this is not. A lot nicer.
- 1:19:58Yeah, I will take the for now pay cut you have.
- 1:20:03To sometimes there's a sacrifice.
- 1:20:05We're working. Towards breaking the stigma of
- 1:20:08being broke because you're in this industry.
- 1:20:11Yeah, dude. Bless, I think you.
- 1:20:14Know Eric, he has a plan for it. And you know, you just got to
- 1:20:18break the stigma. I'm trying.
- 1:20:20Dude, I just don't really know where I want to be.
- 1:20:22Remember people, I would. Want to fight when I was in
- 1:20:23corporate job dude everyday I mean you guys know me as me and
- 1:20:28you think I'm nice I'm not nice all the time dude I.
- 1:20:30Said that I thought you were scary at first.
- 1:20:32Don't forget but. I really.
- 1:20:34Did I thought that you were as scary as hell 'cause you know
- 1:20:38what I'm saying And. The my friends, I'm nice, but
- 1:20:41like, I don't know how many times I would tell John I'm
- 1:20:44like, man, does this guy not know that I could like RIP his
- 1:20:49head off? Dude, I'm.
- 1:20:52Telling you like like why do? People like disrespect you in
- 1:20:56that way. Like when?
- 1:20:57There's not really a need to like, what are you going to?
- 1:20:59What did you say to her? One time I said to alleviate
- 1:21:02stress in the work environment, you should be able to fight one
- 1:21:06person per year in the office. Like a little straight, I mean.
- 1:21:11Obviously you would go somewhere, you know, regulated,
- 1:21:14oh, behind. The office.
- 1:21:15No, no, no. Like let's go to this boxing gym
- 1:21:17or something like you pick one person per year, 2 fights.
- 1:21:22It. Should at least be an option,
- 1:21:23yeah. Like if you want to, you call
- 1:21:25them out. And they have no choice.
- 1:21:29OK, that's a. Little Chopper, this is a crazy.
- 1:21:30Sell and you're getting wildly excited about this so like.
- 1:21:34Imagine. Really.
- 1:21:35Like. Now.
- 1:21:37Imagine the person not wanting to disrespect you after that.
- 1:21:41Yeah, you know what he really I mean.
- 1:21:44What? You're saying is pretty much the
- 1:21:45Internet too right now, where people just go crazy 'cause they
- 1:21:48know nothing's gonna happen, yeah.
- 1:21:49Yeah, and that's how it is in the corporate world.
- 1:21:51But obviously you can't do that 'cause they say.
- 1:21:53Whatever they say, 'cause they know nothing's gonna happen to
- 1:21:54them. I haven't.
- 1:21:55I The arguments that I have right now is they're they're
- 1:21:59really Big Brother Y as of like Q. 2.
- 1:22:03Of last year. No.
- 1:22:04Oh, OK. Like monitor to the T to this to
- 1:22:09the to the what my clicks are doing, what I'm doing here, what
- 1:22:12I'm doing there. So what do I do?
- 1:22:15How can I get petty with that? So then clicks I monitor.
- 1:22:18Your clicks so then. What I do is I will as I work
- 1:22:23from home. I work from home on Fridays.
- 1:22:26This is where my response was. You.
- 1:22:29They hired me. Oh, meaning if.
- 1:22:30You don't do enough clicks, You're not working if you're
- 1:22:32what? Are you doing like, yeah,
- 1:22:34keystrokes. I'm like if you hired me and you
- 1:22:37hired someone else. I'm talking about the other lady
- 1:22:39on my team who can't work for shit moves the the pace of a
- 1:22:43snail. Yeah, OK, I'm actually, I don't
- 1:22:47care, listen to this shit. But if you hired me at the same
- 1:22:51both of us to do the same job and I do my job quicker than the
- 1:22:56other person and and less time and we're getting paid the same
- 1:23:02and we have the same amount of work, do you really think I'm
- 1:23:05going to go above and beyond for this company that I can give a
- 1:23:08fuck about? So what?
- 1:23:09So you're I do my. Work.
- 1:23:11I get it done. I do it to my best that I can.
- 1:23:14Whatever is in front of me always and yet now they're
- 1:23:17asking for more because my hours aren't meeting what they want.
- 1:23:21And then I said, but it takes me that it takes this person that
- 1:23:24amount of time to do that. I'm not going to do it.
- 1:23:26So you're. Producing more work still I'm.
- 1:23:28Producing more work in the less amount of time and they're just
- 1:23:31mad that you would sell in. An automotive I'm not.
- 1:23:33Around, I'm not around as much as they want me to be.
- 1:23:37They're like, it seems like you're not really committed and
- 1:23:38I want to be like, I'm really not in the.
- 1:23:40Automotive World, you would be making more money because of
- 1:23:43that. Mm hmm.
- 1:23:44Yes, which is? The only benefit Book time.
- 1:23:47Yeah. Like flat rate, that's the only
- 1:23:49benefit no to learn book time. But flat.
- 1:23:53Rate is fucking terrible so yeah yeah OK, but but when it's good
- 1:23:57it's good, but it's usually bad but no I'm.
- 1:23:59Just that was my rebuttal. I'm like, you don't think that I
- 1:24:02got a life outside of here? Like you don't think I they
- 1:24:05don't care about other things outside of these walls.
- 1:24:07What we have together as a community, the automotive
- 1:24:10community is sick because we care about something that had
- 1:24:14that brings us to somewhere else.
- 1:24:16If only it could. Just bring us money, yeah?
- 1:24:18For real. But I think that there's always
- 1:24:21a. Trade off, there's a trade off.
- 1:24:22And. I mean, yeah, don't get me
- 1:24:24wrong. I worked there and made a lot of
- 1:24:25money and I was able to establish a a base, a family.
- 1:24:29Yeah. Family.
- 1:24:30And now that I'm not there, it's, we talked about this,
- 1:24:34there's a flip side to it, right?
- 1:24:35Like if I would have taken that Escalade to a shop to get it
- 1:24:38done, it would have been $1,000,000.
- 1:24:39Yeah, but we did it here together and it was less.
- 1:24:45And it was a bit less. But dude, like, ah, dude, no,
- 1:24:50That that that's like Carl's fart.
- 1:24:52The happiness, the happiness part is yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:54And I really am happy that you there's.
- 1:24:57Mental health games, you took that.
- 1:24:58Too, there's mental. Health games in this stuff right
- 1:25:00and it's important that's. That really is, though, yeah.
- 1:25:04Mental health's a big thing. I got a lot of friends right
- 1:25:06now. Stigma too, man.
- 1:25:08Yeah, a lot. Of friends right now that I feel
- 1:25:09like are on the edge, yeah. Man, you just got out.
- 1:25:13You got to admit it. Yeah.
- 1:25:15Yeah, it's because of, I mean, I don't want to say it's because
- 1:25:16of. It's because of drifting.
- 1:25:18Like they put a lot of stress on themselves.
- 1:25:19You think so? Yeah.
- 1:25:21Something just what I'm thinking about, yeah, because.
- 1:25:23They just put a lot of stress on.
- 1:25:24Themselves and stuff and then it's like they don't see what's
- 1:25:26going on. It's they need what?
- 1:25:27Tom has, yeah. Exactly.
- 1:25:30Brain deficiency. What do they?
- 1:25:33Need that Tom got no dude, but that's that's.
- 1:25:36It's gives. You purpose though, it gives you
- 1:25:38drive that it's a healthy drive that you want to pursue versus
- 1:25:42like you need this corporate culture in you.
- 1:25:46You need to achieve the mission statement every day.
- 1:25:50I would not. Last a week.
- 1:25:52No did. You ever do corporate?
- 1:25:53Never. I did the the only other stuff
- 1:25:56was we I worked at Nissan dealerships.
- 1:25:58I was parts department and technician so and I basically
- 1:26:04like service industry stuff like valet driving and stuff like
- 1:26:06that but. I imagine young Frankie in a
- 1:26:09little valet uniform just having a.
- 1:26:10Boss in general was not. Is not working.
- 1:26:13Out for me, I was just always testing them.
- 1:26:15I'm like, go ahead, fire me. Oh, because when?
- 1:26:17I was when I got into the parts area, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:20So I started as a technician and it didn't last that long.
- 1:26:23I was like, I think I got fired from that job and I went back to
- 1:26:26valet and then I went back to another one.
- 1:26:28But when I started doing parts, I was like, I did it because I
- 1:26:33was selling performance parts. So I was like, oh, this will
- 1:26:36kind of help me. Like maybe I'll learn a little
- 1:26:38bit and it'll be fun. So I start doing it right over
- 1:26:42my boss who I, I knew, I knew him for years because he was
- 1:26:46also at the other dealership I worked at in the parts
- 1:26:48department. So we start working together and
- 1:26:51he's like, he's like, you're really good at this because you
- 1:26:54work on cars. He's like most people that are
- 1:26:57in the parts department of these dealerships, they've never
- 1:26:59touched a car, so they don't know anything.
- 1:27:02How is that not a? Prereq.
- 1:27:03Yeah, well, I. Mean look about like me, right
- 1:27:05with my corporate job. I've never been in manufacturing
- 1:27:08standpoint or anything like that, but I would supply the
- 1:27:10parts. That's true.
- 1:27:13And what were you selling again? The plastic.
- 1:27:16Resin. What were the use cases raw?
- 1:27:20Plastic resin. So this table that we're using.
- 1:27:25So it was not a specific. Weathertech formats, Yeah, those
- 1:27:30igloo coolers. Damn, that's.
- 1:27:32Yetis how? The fuck did you get into that?
- 1:27:36I just. Fell into it and yeah like this
- 1:27:39thing right here right Selling that in the raw form huh I.
- 1:27:44Don't know. Anything about that?
- 1:27:45Yeah. So you don't know what that is.
- 1:27:46I just sell it. So you're.
- 1:27:47Selling it to companies that are amusing, that stuff.
- 1:27:49Yeah, yeah, OK. See there was a.
- 1:27:51Tangible thing dude I don't know how the fuck my our company
- 1:27:54makes money but. But once I learned that I was
- 1:27:57good at that, then I was like, OK, now everyone can.
- 1:27:59Now you're like. Later exactly.
- 1:28:01I was like, all right, fire me, go for it.
- 1:28:02And they never would. I was at one job saying fire me
- 1:28:05for over a year and they wouldn't.
- 1:28:06They wouldn't do it because you're that good.
- 1:28:08Yeah, and I was like, all right, cool.
- 1:28:09So now I know I have a backup plan and I know a lot of
- 1:28:12business owners are always like, oh, you don't.
- 1:28:13You don't want to have a backup plan because then you won't.
- 1:28:16You won't. Commit.
- 1:28:16You won't commit. All this stuff, I was like, Nah,
- 1:28:18I'm good. I I'd like to have a backup plan
- 1:28:19because this is fucking retarded.
- 1:28:21But yeah, so in my, in the back of my head, I was like, OK,
- 1:28:23cool. So I could potentially go manage
- 1:28:26a parts department somewhere. Cool.
- 1:28:28So it's like, that's my back pocket.
- 1:28:29I don't think about it because this is what I want to do.
- 1:28:32But just knowing that that was there, I was like, OK, cool.
- 1:28:35You know, it is what it is. But yeah, no, I, I, I guess
- 1:28:39it's, I hate saying that like, oh, having a boss isn't for me.
- 1:28:42I hate that. But that's how it feels,
- 1:28:44honestly. Not that it isn't for me, it's
- 1:28:46just, I know I don't want it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:48There's nothing wrong with that. Now you.
- 1:28:50Built a Corp I. Pretty much did, yeah, dude.
- 1:28:53Since since our last visit here. Just so everyone your nose last
- 1:28:58visit here, Frankie was still on the fence about all this shit
- 1:29:01about the new shop, whatever. Oh yeah, I'm over here, I'm over
- 1:29:04here. Like, yeah, they made a little
- 1:29:05paint booth. Fucking Frankie built a
- 1:29:08dealership. I.
- 1:29:09I. I take a lot of dealership
- 1:29:11mentality 'cause I really like the organization and everything.
- 1:29:13You definitely. Did you?
- 1:29:14Definitely did, dude. He made bro.
- 1:29:17He made a little fucking window thing for.
- 1:29:20Parts. Unnecessary, unnecessary.
- 1:29:23There is a little window so that you wouldn't have to the the
- 1:29:27outside shop people would not have to interact with the inside
- 1:29:31shop people. Yeah, 'cause it's.
- 1:29:32Like a insane. It's like a.
- 1:29:34Showroom area insane then the parts counters in there little
- 1:29:38drive through window. Take a #2, please.
- 1:29:41Yeah, yeah. Hi.
- 1:29:43Oh, it's not done. Yet.
- 1:29:43But I think once it's done, it's going to be cool.
- 1:29:45Oh, that's cool. Yeah.
- 1:29:46It's really like coming here to this shop, dude, I this shop is
- 1:29:50like cooler than mine. It's going to open the.
- 1:29:52Window and be like. Why?
- 1:29:55Pushing over the apple pie, it's just like.
- 1:29:56Just to hand them off, but this shop.
- 1:29:58'S cool because it's like it's smaller than what we have right
- 1:30:01now, but it's like so efficient, like the way the lifts are set
- 1:30:04up and everything. Dude, yeah, you.
- 1:30:05Guys got four in here, yeah. This is really this is a really
- 1:30:09good setup. It all depends on how how the
- 1:30:10shape of the. The building.
- 1:30:12Building is and if you if you get screwed on that, you're kind
- 1:30:16of you're kind of fucked. So like we have room for 1234,
- 1:30:21potentially 5 lifts, but probably going to end up with
- 1:30:23three or four and then the alignment rack.
- 1:30:25Oh. Alignment rack.
- 1:30:26Yeah, Full alignment, yeah, Like what you have now?
- 1:30:28Yeah. Exactly.
- 1:30:29So that, yeah, the alignment rack was a big thing too.
- 1:30:31That was like a couple years ago.
- 1:30:32That place is. Awesome dude, but when we go to
- 1:30:33other shops like that I like. This here.
- 1:30:35I love this. Yeah, and this.
- 1:30:37This showroom and waiting area is like I knew.
- 1:30:40I'd as soon as he walked in there, I was like, damn,
- 1:30:42Frankie's probably punch in the air right now, would you?
- 1:30:45Rather have. It smaller or is that a good
- 1:30:46size? Oh.
- 1:30:48That's pretty big. That's good for what I would
- 1:30:50want. That's perfect.
- 1:30:51Yeah. It would be more parts, though.
- 1:30:53It would be less waiting area. I'd shove the waiting area like
- 1:30:55right in the little corner and then it'd be all parts and the
- 1:30:58car on the front. Just of.
- 1:30:59Course, like where I would want to be like, yeah, yeah, Carl and
- 1:31:03the offices are. Sick too.
- 1:31:04Like, yeah, they're good. Yeah, the display case.
- 1:31:07Damn we got to do a video before we leave.
- 1:31:10Yeah, just. We got to do a video, Yeah.
- 1:31:13Did we get. Did you post any questions or
- 1:31:14anything? We actually.
- 1:31:15Didn't I fucked up, you did. So, yeah, but dude, this, I
- 1:31:19can't, I can't thank you enough for sharing that.
- 1:31:21By the way, like the corporate thing, there's a there's a lot
- 1:31:24of kids out there. Not kids.
- 1:31:26We're all kids. Yeah, there's a lot of people
- 1:31:28out there that are in that. Well, I mean we.
- 1:31:30Grew up, we talk about. It a lot and we.
- 1:31:32Grew up. Thinking that's the only way to
- 1:31:33become successful, right So. Well, it it it's definitely how
- 1:31:38I feel like, but there's there's like there's like a strong
- 1:31:42person that can handle that and like I had to down and out.
- 1:31:50I can't well from the. Outside looking in to all, I
- 1:31:53don't want to say Filipino, but all you guys talking about your
- 1:31:56families and everything. It.
- 1:31:58Seems like they're putting fun and everything else to the side
- 1:32:04and they just care about you being successful.
- 1:32:06You got to work. Work is.
- 1:32:08Work. Yeah, that's.
- 1:32:09How they grew up, I mean, right. So it's like.
- 1:32:11It's they were poor. Yeah.
- 1:32:13So they're trying to have you. They're trying to make sure you
- 1:32:14have a better life than them, but they don't realize that,
- 1:32:16like, you kind of need to enjoy your life, too.
- 1:32:19Yeah. I will say that my parents were
- 1:32:21very supportive in trying to make sure that we're happy.
- 1:32:25Yeah, they just. Wanted me to be or wanted my
- 1:32:27siblings and I to be able to like have a life that they
- 1:32:31didn't have. That's also.
- 1:32:32But now I feel. Like I'm living like the modern
- 1:32:34day life that they had and I'm like and they hated.
- 1:32:37I'm poor. Still what my sibling?
- 1:32:39Actually went to school for theatre and they do a lot in
- 1:32:43that and she ended up it going into the medical field that she
- 1:32:47really enjoys. So it's like my parents pushed
- 1:32:49her to perceive what she wants and she ended up, you know, now
- 1:32:54her theatre thing is our car thing and the medical thing is
- 1:32:57her, you know? That's.
- 1:33:00So it worked out. It kind of worked out worked.
- 1:33:02Out and they're like. Yes, yeah, it worked.
- 1:33:05That reverse psychology, Joan. And it's also like how
- 1:33:09successful you are is kind of a representation of how well they
- 1:33:13raised you in a way. True.
- 1:33:15So that's why they fight for that.
- 1:33:16Too I feel like thank. God, my brother's around.
- 1:33:19Dude, I'm living. I have a younger brother and he
- 1:33:22bought a house. Did.
- 1:33:24This did that got the degree but is also crazy mentally like like
- 1:33:34he's he's always I think he's got crazy anxiety and shit and
- 1:33:37like he's a car guy. Too.
- 1:33:39Oh, is he? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:40He has a lot of cars. He bought the house because of
- 1:33:42the cars. The house is.
- 1:33:44Kind of the garage, it's a house.
- 1:33:46It's a garage with like a little Hut.
- 1:33:49Like on the. Property and like, I don't know,
- 1:33:52I see the the pride that my mom has when he when he, when she
- 1:33:56talks about like my brother and stuff like that in his house and
- 1:33:59like his career. My son has 12 cars.
- 1:34:02Yeah, I. Kenneth, Kenneth have so many
- 1:34:06cars and they're all in a garage now, so it's even more
- 1:34:10impressive, right? Like to to our family.
- 1:34:12Before you had a bunch of cars in your property, the house
- 1:34:14looks like a junkyard, but now the same cars are just happened
- 1:34:19to be indoors. Now it's like a fucking no.
- 1:34:22It's a. Success story?
- 1:34:23Oh my gosh. Like, that's incredible.
- 1:34:25Yeah. Meanwhile, they're all like, at
- 1:34:26family parties. Why would you spend your money
- 1:34:28on this stuff? Like.
- 1:34:30And. And that's him.
- 1:34:30What does he what? Does he do?
- 1:34:32Dude, my shy brother that was not a talker.
- 1:34:36Oh, I think he told me this. Is the.
- 1:34:37Number one car or Subaru salesman on the East Coast.
- 1:34:41Oh number. One number.
- 1:34:43One he might be #2 wait, car. Salesman, yeah.
- 1:34:45Bro oh wow. He works for.
- 1:34:47Subaru OK, he has five Subarus. Non biased seller, he'll tell
- 1:34:53somebody. He'll.
- 1:34:55Like he told me he's like some people come in here and he's a
- 1:34:57good dude, which is even more like because you think a
- 1:35:01salesman you think of like, oh, I got.
- 1:35:03I think of. Cocaine immediately ABC always
- 1:35:06be closing always. Be closing but then.
- 1:35:10He always tells us like, yeah, this this couple came in and
- 1:35:12they really wanted this, but their financial situation was
- 1:35:15not going to let them do that. Like and I was just trying to
- 1:35:17help him out like to not make this mistake.
- 1:35:21That's that's the opposite. What salesman?
- 1:35:22Be doing that like, you know what I mean?
- 1:35:24And I think that that benefited him in that way 'cause he stood
- 1:35:28by what he was believing in. In that business, it's all about
- 1:35:32reputation too, which I didn't really know, 'cause like in my
- 1:35:34head I'm like, oh, if I want a car, well, maybe I work
- 1:35:37different than other people. Like if I want to buy a car, I'm
- 1:35:39going to know way more than the salesman knows by by the time I
- 1:35:42get there. But.
- 1:35:43He walks in there like Ron Swanson.
- 1:35:44I know more than you. Yeah, like.
- 1:35:46Way more. But normal people, they go buy a
- 1:35:49car, they don't really know anything.
- 1:35:50They want to learn from them. So if you're honest and
- 1:35:52everything, those people will come back later, buy another
- 1:35:54car. He did. 35 cars like in a month
- 1:35:58once and I was like, that's A at least a day, yeah.
- 1:36:01And and then you're thinking about how many salesman they got
- 1:36:03on the floor and you're like, damn, it's a lot of fucking
- 1:36:05cars. There must be.
- 1:36:06And then? You think about how, where are
- 1:36:08they? Yeah, they're around, Yeah.
- 1:36:10There's going to be too. Many cars good for him there's.
- 1:36:12Too many. But but yeah, that's that's like
- 1:36:15that wasn't his field. That wasn't anywhere near what
- 1:36:18he wanted to do. That didn't require a degree or
- 1:36:20anything. And he has a comp side degree or
- 1:36:22mathematics degree, which is not easy.
- 1:36:24He knows how to count. The cars now, yeah.
- 1:36:26I don't know man, that kid just like.
- 1:36:28Good for him. Though yeah, he made a.
- 1:36:30Pivot, he committed. I know it's the hours are crazy,
- 1:36:33but makes way more money than me.
- 1:36:35So, and that's something that my mom, like, is able to pride
- 1:36:38herself on, 'cause she's like, oh, I did OK with that one.
- 1:36:42With that one. One out of three daily you're.
- 1:36:44Just not. You're not at the level yet,
- 1:36:45Carl. You'll be there meanwhile.
- 1:36:46My sister gets into a car accident while we're on the pod.
- 1:36:49I'm 29, you look. Like you're doing all right to
- 1:36:52me. Yeah, I think.
- 1:36:53So too. The Yeah, I do look pretty young
- 1:36:55still. I had somebody card me, but I
- 1:36:58also. Have to have different ideas and
- 1:37:03of success, right? Yeah.
- 1:37:04And comparison is always the thief of joy too.
- 1:37:07So just cause my timeline is not as quick and just 'cause I was
- 1:37:14two years older than my brother doesn't mean that like I should
- 1:37:16have been done doing my thing already.
- 1:37:18Makes me feel better and it took me 10 years to get my bachelor
- 1:37:22degree shut. The hell up for real?
- 1:37:24Yeah, it took so long. Chop.
- 1:37:26That is not long. That's like, really?
- 1:37:29Long like in school for 10 years.
- 1:37:31No, OK. I was like there that but you
- 1:37:32went but you had an. Offseason, right?
- 1:37:34And then you went back. Oh, because.
- 1:37:35I made money. What I thought was making money.
- 1:37:37I was like, I'll just take one class this semester.
- 1:37:40Yeah, well, my mom, when I graduated, she's like, man, you
- 1:37:44got your PhD in bachelor's. That's.
- 1:37:49Good. Thanks.
- 1:37:49Mom. Thanks, Mom.
- 1:37:51Yeah, it's all right. I I.
- 1:37:52Did my associates in like 4 years so I get it.
- 1:37:55I was on the four year plan bro 10.
- 1:37:56Years. That's a little.
- 1:37:58Crazy, but yeah, But the thing. Is as you were doing stuff like
- 1:38:00during those 10, I know people who took 10 years to do a
- 1:38:02bachelor's and they were at home.
- 1:38:04That's bad. Like I'm just like, yeah.
- 1:38:07I thought I was making money. I was like, oh, this is fine,
- 1:38:09Yeah. How did you?
- 1:38:11Because you were. Working on cars before he moved
- 1:38:13you to the other position, right?
- 1:38:14No. Oh yeah.
- 1:38:15Yeah. So how did you get?
- 1:38:16Into that like you is it just from being a car guy he.
- 1:38:20Just asked if I wanted to try it.
- 1:38:21I said sure. So you kind.
- 1:38:22Of were learning, sure. So you kind of were learning
- 1:38:25here, yeah. And I know you had a way.
- 1:38:28I know you had. Some knowledge obviously coming.
- 1:38:30Into here I was like, I didn't know shit before, right?
- 1:38:32Like. Wow, I thought.
- 1:38:35I knew. Yeah.
- 1:38:35You're. Listening to this oh God damn,
- 1:38:38what the hell did I do? Hiring, you know, because.
- 1:38:40I was like, bro, I don't like. But I.
- 1:38:42Mean I whatever, Just yeah. You built drift cars, not.
- 1:38:46Really. I mean, I watch people build
- 1:38:47drift cars, yeah. RT built my car, which is OK.
- 1:38:50RC on motors, Yeah. So you really?
- 1:38:53Did just like, kind of. Yeah.
- 1:38:55He was like, do you? Want to come and learn or
- 1:38:56something that's like a? Pretty, that's pretty
- 1:38:58interesting, man. Sure I don't got.
- 1:38:59Anything else? Yeah.
- 1:39:00That that makes this whole like change in your life actually a
- 1:39:04lot more interesting because you're not only doing something
- 1:39:07that you think you're going to enjoy more, you're learning a
- 1:39:10completely new field. What about the?
- 1:39:12Stresses. OK, we're, we're talking about
- 1:39:14all all these highs, right? There's a big.
- 1:39:18Shift that's going to happen, I feel like with if, if I was to
- 1:39:22think of doing that, the first thing I'm thinking about is
- 1:39:24like, I'm going from somewhere where I'm going to be pretty
- 1:39:27lazy. So now I'm going to have to be
- 1:39:29off my ass on my feet, moving 20 the whole time.
- 1:39:32It was just better. It's not that it's not super
- 1:39:35busy over here all the time, but I feel like being on your feet
- 1:39:38more, it's just you like it more.
- 1:39:39Right. Yeah.
- 1:39:40Oh yeah. OK.
- 1:39:42I'm going to be honest with my you know how work from home is.
- 1:39:46You could find yourself doing anything but working.
- 1:39:50I would take naps during the day.
- 1:39:52Yeah, I have time. I finished my work and then you
- 1:39:56don't gotta. In that.
- 1:39:58In that. Industry Christmas time,
- 1:40:00everyone's shut down. There's nothing to do, dude.
- 1:40:03And. Like the day before, dude.
- 1:40:04It's before Labor Day weekend, yeah.
- 1:40:07Everyone's gone. Everyone's.
- 1:40:08Gone. Everyone was gone on Monday and
- 1:40:10then yet I'm here working. I'm the one who's like, I need
- 1:40:14to make hours, I need to do this, I need to have progress.
- 1:40:18I'm salary. But that that that's what I'm
- 1:40:20saying is like the work. I have a set amount of work, it
- 1:40:24gets done. You cannot expect more from me.
- 1:40:27Ours is sale of base, so if there's no one around like what
- 1:40:30am I going to do? You can't do.
- 1:40:31Anything accounting's not, no one's in the way.
- 1:40:34My job work is I would plan and buy for the next three to six
- 1:40:37months. Sorry guys.
- 1:40:39There's a garbage truck outside. He going.
- 1:40:42Ham. Holy crap I wanted to try that.
- 1:40:44Too, you know, like, for real. Yeah, I have a friend who does
- 1:40:46that and he enjoys it. I was like, I hear they.
- 1:40:48Get paid a good amount, you know the.
- 1:40:50Benefits are probably nuts. Fall off a truck, you know?
- 1:40:54All right. Yeah.
- 1:40:55You're getting paid. Do people?
- 1:40:57Still, I have seen them. I don't think my neighborhood
- 1:41:00has the people on the back of it anymore.
- 1:41:02It's more like a city thing. I haven't.
- 1:41:04Seen it. Yeah, it's all automated now in
- 1:41:06our. In our town in East Rutherford,
- 1:41:08there's there's people. It's like a little.
- 1:41:09Machine now just flicks it over. It's wild, yeah.
- 1:41:13AI is coming, they said. You.
- 1:41:13Want to complain, robot? That's crazy.
- 1:41:18Yeah. I used to binge watch Netflix
- 1:41:20shows. Yeah, in one day, one working
- 1:41:23day at at first you're. Probably like oh this is cool I
- 1:41:25can take naps now and then within like 3 months you were
- 1:41:27like this is bad, this is terrible.
- 1:41:28No, I think that goes back to our our yearning to learn all
- 1:41:31the time, right. Yeah, Here I get to learn every
- 1:41:34day, right? I can I get to be like, what?
- 1:41:37What did Brad say to me the other day?
- 1:41:38He's like, what did you do? Yeah, don't do it that way.
- 1:41:42Yeah. OK, I will.
- 1:41:45I'll do it the other. Way and you'll never do it again
- 1:41:47yeah the. Shop is like, as long as there's
- 1:41:50a few people in here, a shop, you will learn something new
- 1:41:52every day. Yeah, basically, whether no
- 1:41:55matter how small or large it is. I like that about this and you
- 1:42:00know the stress is like almost non existent compared to
- 1:42:02corporate world. Dude, this.
- 1:42:05Is my work from home day now because after you have to my my
- 1:42:10little tip for if you work from home is like 1 you have to wake
- 1:42:16up and get dressed like I put these like clothes on oh to
- 1:42:20make. Yourself feel like yeah.
- 1:42:21So then I'm not. Just going to be like laptop on
- 1:42:23my chest fucking. I would shower in the mornings,
- 1:42:26yeah. You've always had, like, do
- 1:42:28something. And then on Fridays, that's when
- 1:42:32Body Town opens. That's like, that's my little,
- 1:42:34that's my little Body Shop that I call Welcome to Body Town USA.
- 1:42:38Are we talking? About something else?
- 1:42:40No, that's. When I opened the the the shop
- 1:42:41opens up, that's, that's when on Friday all week I'll get
- 1:42:45materials and plan for Friday, Saturday, Sunday for jobs to go
- 1:42:50out and then I'll come home Friday, wake up 8:30 or 9 to
- 1:42:55make sure I'm logged in, run my morning meeting, get off, clear
- 1:42:59out the inbox. It's 10:00 AM.
- 1:43:01I'm in the shop sanding, then I'll go back.
- 1:43:04I'll do that back and forth, back and forth, in and out of
- 1:43:07the garage, probably at least 1000 steps doing that.
- 1:43:09And then at lunch or after lunch, during lunch is when I'm
- 1:43:14spraying, 'cause then I can be gone from my computer for a
- 1:43:16whole hour. So then I'm spraying and then
- 1:43:19after lunch after that, like I'll come back, do that back and
- 1:43:22forth, back and forth. By the time I'm done, it's 5:00
- 1:43:24and I'm dying. Yeah.
- 1:43:25Then I'm like, OK, that was a pretty good day.
- 1:43:27Yeah. I.
- 1:43:28Mean that's working two jobs. At the same time, like probably.
- 1:43:32During the week too, it's. During the week, it's during the
- 1:43:34week it's 5 to 10 is like the hell hours 'cause now I'm going
- 1:43:39to run out of daylight, I'm going to run out of temperature.
- 1:43:41The temperature starts to get cold.
- 1:43:43Yeah, now it's. Getting darker so now.
- 1:43:45I'm hitting that time where it's going to be a lull now.
- 1:43:48Now I got to analyze how fast their jobs coming in during the
- 1:43:52winter. What jobs can I, what jobs
- 1:43:54should I turn away because of just the environment that I'm
- 1:43:58going to be able to have pain curing in?
- 1:44:00Yeah. That's a lot to.
- 1:44:01Learn and that's probably why I'm having so much fucking fun
- 1:44:05actually even talking about this now.
- 1:44:06I can't wait to go back. I got jobs that need to go out
- 1:44:09next week. Yeah.
- 1:44:10And it's been really great to have support like that like a
- 1:44:14constant flow stay busy. Well, you're doing.
- 1:44:16It the way that you should. You have a full time job, you're
- 1:44:20making money and you're starting something else.
- 1:44:22I think that. That's a 2024 way to do it.
- 1:44:25That's the smartest way to start your own business in my eyes.
- 1:44:28So you did? Yeah, A. 100% yeah, I'm trying.
- 1:44:31Dude, 'cause you don't you. You won't feel the pressure of
- 1:44:35and the. Obligation of yeah, like.
- 1:44:37If this doesn't happen, you're not eating.
- 1:44:40Yeah. Where?
- 1:44:40Where? I'm not going to pay rent.
- 1:44:41Like you can learn as you're at least safe.
- 1:44:45Yeah. Yeah, I want to.
- 1:44:47I want to do this until I have enough money to do a down
- 1:44:50payment on a house and then I'll like move in with the intention
- 1:44:56that I would do both. Yeah.
- 1:44:58At the same time. I don't know.
- 1:45:00We'll see. So what does?
- 1:45:01He have you doing now here I'm. Service writing and then what?
- 1:45:05Technically. The model.
- 1:45:07Manager, I don't know. Hey guys, just making sure you
- 1:45:10work on this. Yeah, almost like a shop forming
- 1:45:12kind of maybe something like that I don't like.
- 1:45:14The word term manager, It's weird, yeah.
- 1:45:16He got. You.
- 1:45:16Outside like, hey guys. Can you work on this next
- 1:45:19please? You're a project manager?
- 1:45:22We've got. Waiters, yeah.
- 1:45:24You're a project. Manager I guess.
- 1:45:25So you should say that on on resumes like.
- 1:45:28Project Manager but. Actually, you're just managing
- 1:45:31projects like. That's cool though.
- 1:45:34Because I'm. Sure.
- 1:45:34Eric was doing a lot of that. Yeah.
- 1:45:36Like that was his job. And now he's yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:45:38kind of doing other stuff. Yeah, it's cool, though.
- 1:45:42I mean, at first I was like, well, I guess I'm back to the
- 1:45:45computer and we'll see how it goes.
- 1:45:46But it's fun and I get to use my customer service skills that I
- 1:45:49had before, which is. Very important it is.
- 1:45:52Yeah, yeah, yeah, that is. Kind of isn't that kind of a
- 1:45:56weird arsenal tool to have like tool to have in your arsenal?
- 1:45:59Is the fact that you can answer the phone with.
- 1:46:01Thank you for calling Eric's autolab.
- 1:46:03Yeah, like. I'm not good at that.
- 1:46:04That's exactly how I sound. Like meanwhile child's like
- 1:46:10hello but I. Think it's even just talking to
- 1:46:13these guys on a separate note right Speaking of one of our
- 1:46:18larger customers who comes to us with his Porsche, Porsche,
- 1:46:21Porsche. I don't know Josh, what's the
- 1:46:23term multiply multiple Porsche, Porsche, I'm just kidding
- 1:46:27Porsche Porsche owns a pizza place in Rockford and supposedly
- 1:46:33it's really good not deep dish, but anyways, he's somebody that
- 1:46:39I talked to right. I, I talked to him about his
- 1:46:41family, I talked to him about his job, you know, his business.
- 1:46:44And I think it's just important to get in to other people's
- 1:46:47lives. Well, the fact.
- 1:46:48That you that you're like that's your position now is you can
- 1:46:53focus on that and you can focus on how not to be an asshole
- 1:46:55doing that stuff Nah the. What I'm doing?
- 1:46:57That's called report, bro. I cannot.
- 1:47:00Every time I hang up the phone, I turn to Malcolm.
- 1:47:02I'm like, you better get good fast because I'm fucking done
- 1:47:04with this shit. I cannot do it anymore.
- 1:47:06We did have. A interesting customer the other
- 1:47:08day. Yeah, he was fun.
- 1:47:11But you know how to. Handle it because your your your
- 1:47:14hardest day in the office where there's shit dragging you
- 1:47:17through the damn mud and you can't really do anything about
- 1:47:20it so. I told you guys about the
- 1:47:22downtime of Christmas. There are also customers who
- 1:47:25take the time to produce during Christmas and give their
- 1:47:29employees overtime for working past their normal week, right?
- 1:47:34That work Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 1:47:36There was one time, I'll never forget it because of the
- 1:47:39situation, but being a middle man's heart, right?
- 1:47:42You have logistics, you have the product and then you have the
- 1:47:45delivery. And if things don't line up,
- 1:47:47they just don't line up and there's nothing you can do.
- 1:47:49It's not like you can physically go and grab the material and
- 1:47:51deliver it, right? So we had this customer who
- 1:47:54always, every year the week before Christmas will do
- 1:47:57overtime for their employees for extra pay.
- 1:48:00For some reason. The not for some reason, but
- 1:48:04there was just a delay in logistics and it wasn't going to
- 1:48:07get there that weekend. And I told him, I called him
- 1:48:10ahead of time, hey, you're not going to have your production
- 1:48:13weekend. You're going to have to change
- 1:48:14it. And he was like, I cannot
- 1:48:17believe you did this to me. You have ruined everyone's
- 1:48:22Christmas. You have ruined.
- 1:48:23Christmas for. All of my employees, like you
- 1:48:26have another weekend before Christmas that you can have them
- 1:48:30work. Yeah, I didn't ruin your
- 1:48:32Christmas. Yeah, you.
- 1:48:34Were the Grinch for him? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:48:36But yeah, there are people like that who'll say I would have
- 1:48:37just sat there. Like what you want me to fucking
- 1:48:39do, dude? You want me to bring them to
- 1:48:41you? I dealt with.
- 1:48:42One of the other, that's what that's.
- 1:48:43What you're thinking in your head and that unfortunately you
- 1:48:45will never you don't you? You can't just say that.
- 1:48:48But on the flip side, I I dealt with a customer who I ruined
- 1:48:502,000,000. Not me.
- 1:48:52The trucking company ruined $2,000,000 worth of material and
- 1:48:56I helped alleviate that. Now you're now you're the hero.
- 1:48:58Yeah, I was the. Hero.
- 1:48:59Yeah, he's like you delivered bad news, but you also saved the
- 1:49:03day. Yeah.
- 1:49:04So you know, you take the the bad with good, good with bad.
- 1:49:08Yeah, but this? Time I get to deal with this in
- 1:49:10person, yeah, here, right, Not over the phone, which is.
- 1:49:13Better, I think. I think.
- 1:49:15So yeah, you see my face, Yeah. In the long run, it's better.
- 1:49:17Yeah, yeah, sometimes. Well, the.
- 1:49:19Life, but it's. Different I think people have a
- 1:49:21different demeanor when you're talking face to face Yeah,
- 1:49:24right. There's no the level or the
- 1:49:27inkling to disrespect is is dwindled.
- 1:49:29Yeah, corporate. Shit is crazy because you will
- 1:49:31never see them Yeah, so you can just go off I.
- 1:49:35Dude, my favorite is when I have not clients but like my the
- 1:49:39other team members from like different states.
- 1:49:41The one is in Georgia, like a lot of my teammates are in
- 1:49:44Georgia, and they'll pull up and they realize, oh damn, it's just
- 1:49:50this one guy. But yet I.
- 1:49:52Have my own inbox. It's a it, it's my whole team
- 1:49:55inbox, but it's just me. And they're like, oh, and then
- 1:50:00they're, it's a completely different.
- 1:50:02The ones who have took the time to meet me at my desk and like
- 1:50:04say hi. They're they're the ones who are
- 1:50:06like, oh, OK, they, they got you doing this shit.
- 1:50:11And it's like, but there's a different.
- 1:50:12Level of respect there's a different.
- 1:50:13Level of respect. It's like the ones who can IM me
- 1:50:15and tell me, hey, like get this out when you can.
- 1:50:20I know you're busy. Yeah, and will never ping me
- 1:50:23back for the rest of the day. I'm do I'm getting that done for
- 1:50:25you. Yeah, because you know that I'm
- 1:50:27busy and I, you know that I'm going to be able to do it.
- 1:50:29Somebody responded to me the other day.
- 1:50:31I because I again, I'm tiptoeing around because of the hours
- 1:50:34thing. And they're, they responded and
- 1:50:37said like, hey, can where's this at?
- 1:50:40Can you provide an update on this?
- 1:50:41You never know the tone that somebody's giving you through
- 1:50:43the e-mail. So I responded back with the
- 1:50:45utmost respect that I can. I said, Steve, don't worry, I
- 1:50:49got this. I will have this addressed by
- 1:50:50the end of the day. You know, processed, you know,
- 1:50:53well within XY and Z and he pinged me separately because so
- 1:50:59that there's not a e-mail record.
- 1:51:01He pinged. Me separately and said hey, I'm
- 1:51:05not rushing you man so but but thank you so much like you know
- 1:51:08you're doing amazing job. I know it's really busy.
- 1:51:11I, I and I don't respond. And I, I responded to that one
- 1:51:14and I said thank you for that, Steve.
- 1:51:17And I got this shit done. I mean, that's why we like when
- 1:51:20we, when I started like our company, I was always like just
- 1:51:23make sure you're talking to the customers and updating them as
- 1:51:26everything's happening before they.
- 1:51:28Ask before they. Ask that's the key because it So
- 1:51:31what we would do is when it was just me for 10 years, it would
- 1:51:35be if someone ordered something and it wasn't there, I would
- 1:51:38just immediately e-mail them and first of all offer them a
- 1:51:41refund. That's the first thing and then
- 1:51:43let them know the situation and most people would be like thanks
- 1:51:46for reaching out. I and then they always be like I
- 1:51:48ordered with so and so and all these other companies and they
- 1:51:51just let me hang in for like 2 months.
- 1:51:53So I remembered I ordered something.
- 1:51:54And then they're like, oh, it's not here, dude, two months.
- 1:51:56Is crazy. I press order on something and
- 1:51:58the moment I get yeah. Because I when I see something
- 1:52:01come in and we don't have it, I'm in panic mode already.
- 1:52:03I was like, oh, we got to make sure we talk to this guy, make
- 1:52:05sure he doesn't like Malcolm knows because I'll just go to
- 1:52:08him and be like, yo, you got to make sure you talk to this guy.
- 1:52:10You are so. Lucky you have, Malcolm.
- 1:52:12Yeah. And yesterday he was yelling at
- 1:52:14him. Oh.
- 1:52:15Yeah, because he. Forgot that he bro these wires
- 1:52:19right here weren't in the box. So we get the Damon's house and
- 1:52:23no, I bought them. We went to.
- 1:52:25Damon's. House and I'm like I I'm like so
- 1:52:27I don't have microphone cables and he's like he calls me and we
- 1:52:30have no service and I just hear him.
- 1:52:32It's like breaking up. He's like I fucked up.
- 1:52:34I just hang up. We go get him.
- 1:52:37The whole time, Carl's trying to deescalate the situation.
- 1:52:39I'm not even saying anything, but he just knows me.
- 1:52:41I just know. Frankie is just a fucking so
- 1:52:43he's like. Yo, he doesn't mess up that
- 1:52:44much. I'm like, oh, you're not there
- 1:52:46every day. And he's like, you can't even
- 1:52:47say anything. It's just.
- 1:52:48It's just. Not our problem.
- 1:52:49This is his problem, I said. No Frankie, this is our problem.
- 1:52:52We already teamed. No, I'm.
- 1:52:54Going to fix it, but it's his problem.
- 1:52:56And then we find out we don't have headphone jacks.
- 1:52:59So yeah, Malcolm didn't have a good day the other day, but
- 1:53:02yeah, it's all right. But it's OK.
- 1:53:03I'm telling you, it happens. Yeah, it's.
- 1:53:06It happens, it happens. Malcolm's A.
- 1:53:07Very big important piece of yeah, my business never says.
- 1:53:11Anything never says that. I always.
- 1:53:13Dice. As shit I've ever.
- 1:53:14Always doing a great job, I always tell Malcolm that.
- 1:53:18Dude, no, that's, I guess having a good team is really that,
- 1:53:22yeah. Yeah, it's more important to me
- 1:53:23than. Anything else, I always tell
- 1:53:24everyone I'm like, I don't give a fuck about money.
- 1:53:26As long as I can pay what I need to pay and I can eat and I can
- 1:53:30do whatever I want to do, which is not much, then it's fine.
- 1:53:34You know, I, I personally don't give a shit.
- 1:53:36I never have. I I just want to enjoy my life.
- 1:53:40That's what is important to me. So.
- 1:53:43That's it. Kind of comes back to what you
- 1:53:44were saying before. I think you were saying that you
- 1:53:45were like, you were like, we're not.
- 1:53:48We're trying to get rid of the stigma of like you work in this
- 1:53:50field and you're going to make no money.
- 1:53:52I tell all the guys I'm like, if we make more money, you guys
- 1:53:55make more money. I'm like, I'm getting paid the
- 1:53:57least that everyone here, you know a lot of.
- 1:53:58Shoppers don't think that way though, right?
- 1:54:00I. Am learning that yeah.
- 1:54:02And it's, yeah, it's. Kind of just poaching off of
- 1:54:05like the employees, yeah. Or they or there's an owner that
- 1:54:09thinks he's going to get rich off this.
- 1:54:11Or they are. Getting rich?
- 1:54:12Yeah, or. They are and the.
- 1:54:14The employees don't feel and the employees.
- 1:54:16Are like, struggling, Yeah. There's shops near us that I've
- 1:54:19like local shops that I I see doing that and they still have a
- 1:54:22pretty decent work environment, but I just see what's happening
- 1:54:26and I'm like, damn, like I would never want to just, you know,
- 1:54:30buy, buy a house or something. Everyone's like oh I can barely
- 1:54:34afford rent but you just bought a house like or even just.
- 1:54:36Another toy that's even. Worse Yeah, yeah, it's like you
- 1:54:40just start buying cars and they're like, I can't even fix
- 1:54:43my engine but the. One thing I would say about our
- 1:54:46generation today, or not our generation, but as of today,
- 1:54:49there are a lot of side hustles that you can do.
- 1:54:51Like your painting. I do the towing on the side.
- 1:54:53Oh yeah, yo. You'd be towing with that
- 1:54:55Durango bro. That's what they.
- 1:54:57Were saying in the beginning is that.
- 1:54:59Like a a loud like that's like what's the GVW war on that?
- 1:55:05Dude it's gotten almost 9000 towing miles on it.
- 1:55:09Yeah, I got to talk to you about this, 'cause I like that whole
- 1:55:11towing thing. Like it's just nice 'cause.
- 1:55:12I can. It's just hard, OK?
- 1:55:14It's nice, but it's hard 'cause it takes me away from the
- 1:55:17family. But it's nice because it it only
- 1:55:20takes me as long as it takes right?
- 1:55:21Like sometimes I can calculate it to be like $100.00 an hour
- 1:55:26depending on how long it takes or whatever.
- 1:55:28Bro imagine. Frankie, you'd just be sending
- 1:55:30me off on the road, dude. That's the.
- 1:55:32Only see you later like only other thing I wanted to do but
- 1:55:34you got to know how to. Do it right.
- 1:55:35Yeah, we're. Doing car storage soon because
- 1:55:38we the shop is like so big to the point where we need to
- 1:55:40store. So part of that was I was like,
- 1:55:42God damn, we should get into transportation too, because I
- 1:55:44was like, I want to I want to do it because I want to be on the
- 1:55:47road. I just want to be on the road
- 1:55:48driving. I'm like, that's the most fun
- 1:55:50for me like what we're doing right now the way home.
- 1:55:53I love that shit like everyone just in the van like that's why
- 1:55:55we bought this van, because we well, because we.
- 1:56:02We as a just them two. I'm just here.
- 1:56:05We as a. Company just.
- 1:56:07Here and. Sorry, Louis.
- 1:56:09Do you work for Louis? Does not but I.
- 1:56:12I just wasn't. None of us.
- 1:56:14Work. Wait, did we?
- 1:56:15Not explain to him the like situation.
- 1:56:17OK, so it's Louis's van. Oh OK I bought this.
- 1:56:21OK OK, I bought this. Thing like bought this thing
- 1:56:23like 3-4 three days, four days ago from you.
- 1:56:27We made a deal. We finally made a deal.
- 1:56:28He's had it for a year and he he's just been driving around
- 1:56:31how long? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:56:37But I didn't realize that these trucks go for a decent amount of
- 1:56:39money. Yeah.
- 1:56:40Yeah. So like, I was like, I'm not
- 1:56:41paying fucking what are you talking about?
- 1:56:43I'm not paying that This 04. And then he'd be like, yeah, but
- 1:56:45it's got 60,000 miles. 60, Yeah. Wow, we hit a.
- 1:56:51Deer in it and everything so the the.
- 1:56:52First the first time, just now on the way there, no.
- 1:56:54Going to a haunted house, but yeah.
- 1:56:56So the first time we took it, we took it to a haunted house.
- 1:56:58I was like, everyone get in there was like 10.
- 1:57:00People in there and I was like. Yo, this shit's sick.
- 1:57:02Like we got everyone in here. We hit a deer.
- 1:57:04That was cool. Did you put it inside?
- 1:57:06After you no. The deer, yeah.
- 1:57:08No, we we pulled. Is that a?
- 1:57:10You know you own. It right after you hit it.
- 1:57:12Oh, for the most part, from most in most states, it's yours.
- 1:57:15Jersey's. Weird.
- 1:57:16I. I don't wasn't going to trust
- 1:57:18that Jersey deer probably ain't going to even really need it.
- 1:57:21Yeah, that's kind of cool, though.
- 1:57:22I didn't think about that, but we hit it.
- 1:57:25It's. Yours now, Louis, was.
- 1:57:27Louis was driving and I was in the passenger seat and we see
- 1:57:29this deer come out. I was like, and I see like he's
- 1:57:31trying to figure out what to do and I'm trying to figure out I
- 1:57:33was, I was like, there's nothing.
- 1:57:35Left. And like right the last second
- 1:57:36he just starts going to the left and the deer like stops.
- 1:57:39Stops. And then we're like, oh, we're
- 1:57:41going to be good. And then fucking juts out right
- 1:57:43right before we hit him. Boom, punt him.
- 1:57:45Malcolm's all the way in the back.
- 1:57:46It's not a different state back there in the fucking 4th row.
- 1:57:50That was a van. Fucking.
- 1:57:52Fine, I was. Always told you ever see it?
- 1:57:57Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:57:59yeah A. For the butt, yeah.
- 1:58:04Yeah, he was. Victoria came back.
- 1:58:06Yeah, he ran and then came back. That was.
- 1:58:07Why so it was? Not good.
- 1:58:08It wasn't the headlight. Was gone, right?
- 1:58:10Or it was just a headlight. In a mirror, headlight didn't.
- 1:58:12Fuck up part of the grill, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:58:14But like, I was like, damn this. We didn't even feel it.
- 1:58:18I was like, damn, that was pretty.
- 1:58:19That was pretty. It was like, it was a selling
- 1:58:21point. When we hit that deer, you're
- 1:58:22like. I'm buying this.
- 1:58:23That's that's. How I that's how I got them.
- 1:58:25Just like that. Yep, did.
- 1:58:27You look back or just oh. Malcolm salt flying.
- 1:58:30It was like Malcolm said that. It was.
- 1:58:31It was Frisbee along the side of the van like crazy.
- 1:58:36Yeah, like it was a full grown deer too.
- 1:58:38Like antlers? And everything I.
- 1:58:40Don't think so. I was going to say at.
- 1:58:41Least the antlers didn't hit. They had.
- 1:58:42Yeah, that would have been. Crazy that would have been.
- 1:58:45But yeah, so. That happened and I was like, I
- 1:58:46don't know. I just kept saying and I kept
- 1:58:48turning to Malcolm when we're working and I'm like, I think we
- 1:58:50need to buy that van for no fucking reason.
- 1:58:53I'm like, I think we need to buy that van and I.
- 1:58:54What did you use last? Time so my.
- 1:58:56I've O2 Silverado 1500 I've had it since 2017.
- 1:59:01Most dependable truck I've ever even seen in my entire life.
- 1:59:04I've just never done anything wrong.
- 1:59:05I've gotten a cross country multiple times.
- 1:59:07I've put the bikes in the back of the bed.
- 1:59:09Gone down Arizona back here so many times, but Princess and
- 1:59:16Malcolm are always with me now because of the booth and
- 1:59:19everything. And I was like, I know they
- 1:59:21don't want to be in the back of that truck.
- 1:59:23And then this time it was Eddie Carl.
- 1:59:26I was about to. Say like, what the fuck am I?
- 1:59:28What the hell? It was.
- 1:59:29All four of them in the back and I was like, that's a lot of
- 1:59:33people. And I was like, because we
- 1:59:35didn't do that on purpose last time, but we but it happened
- 1:59:38because your truck broke. I had an.
- 1:59:40RX that died so we transmission straight so everyone.
- 1:59:43Already knew how that was going to be but and I could tell like
- 1:59:47they were just upset about it and I was like I'm going to try
- 1:59:49to buy a truck in like 2 days. So I tried that for like an hour
- 1:59:51and I was like yeah no one can afford that.
- 1:59:54So then I was like fuck, I'll just buy Lewis's van, maybe I'll
- 1:59:56do that. Did you even know he was?
- 1:59:57Going to buy it or five? And a half hours.
- 2:00:02Yeah, yeah. We're trying to negotiate a deal
- 2:00:06just. Fucking take it.
- 2:00:08And we're both. Stubborn.
- 2:00:09So we're trying to like or we could.
- 2:00:11Have taken like 2. Yeah.
- 2:00:13We could have taken two well now.
- 2:00:15So now in my head I'm like, I'm like, OK, so now I got this.
- 2:00:18I have my truck. I do have another truck that's
- 2:00:20not running right now, but it's running.
- 2:00:22It's just rusty and I want to eventually rebuild that.
- 2:00:25Bro it's a. Dermax, we should put it in that
- 2:00:27can you we could do that right? Yeah, I think you.
- 2:00:29Can you worked on these though? Before we were talking about I
- 2:00:31don't want. To is it bad?
- 2:00:32I suck. OK.
- 2:00:34Never mind, that's what I. Talked to him about, I was like,
- 2:00:36dude, the engines under the fucking car, like, yeah, it's
- 2:00:41actually your yeah, you're driving with the yeah, but it
- 2:00:43just seems like it's going to be miserable.
- 2:00:45But yeah, I thought about that, but I was like, OK, so we got
- 2:00:48this and you see this. So that's all the merch in the
- 2:00:50back right now. So that took up two rows, which
- 2:00:54we're pretty lucky that took up two, only two rows.
- 2:00:56But I was like, dude, imagine we got like a little trailer.
- 2:00:59Yeah. And then we had this and then we
- 2:01:00had my truck with another trailer with a car on it or, or
- 2:01:04you could tow a car with this. So now you have like multiple
- 2:01:06vehicles or I have. My own truck, The better truck,
- 2:01:09The Toyota, The Sequoia. The one you can't fit shit in.
- 2:01:12Yeah, bro. I'm tired of living in this
- 2:01:16fucking utilitarian ass fucking vehicle bro so you.
- 2:01:20Drive that one. Yeah, I'll drive it with my
- 2:01:22seven in seven inch screen, my heated seats, my power folding
- 2:01:26mirrors, my class leading 3rd row leg room class.
- 2:01:29Leading. I don't know bro.
- 2:01:31Don't even bro class leading. GM.
- 2:01:34Always leads us. Come on, Trans.
- 2:01:36Feels like shit compared to mine.
- 2:01:37That's what. Damn that trans.
- 2:01:38Feels good ace though. My you can't even feel the
- 2:01:41shifts in my truck. Loaded.
- 2:01:43Too. Anyway, so that's the.
- 2:01:46Plan. We could have had two trucks.
- 2:01:47I didn't know that's what your thought process was.
- 2:01:49I told you to. Drive the whole time because you
- 2:01:50kept talking about Sequoia but then.
- 2:01:52We then you could have had your truck and we could have had my
- 2:01:54truck your your bed loaded up. Look, now we're.
- 2:01:56Prepared for next year, yeah. But now it's the jam van.
- 2:02:01It's the bang. Bust it's fun.
- 2:02:02Yeah, it's whoa, wait, what? No one said any of that before.
- 2:02:07Before you guys take it on another road trip.
- 2:02:10It needs that rib eye livery though.
- 2:02:11I need. Something. 1990. 5 or. 8 rib
- 2:02:15eyes. It was a.
- 2:02:16Couple at least three. And.
- 2:02:19My favorite thing you remember? When you posted that story, you
- 2:02:21guys were going. Where were you going?
- 2:02:22I was coming. Home from Appalachia and me and
- 2:02:25Johnny were driving and there was this van that said Rib Eyes.
- 2:02:29You honk. I stop, I will stop, is what it
- 2:02:32says. Honk.
- 2:02:34And I will stop though, Johnny. Honks at once.
- 2:02:36The dude looks over and I'm like Johnny, Johnny, Johnny.
- 2:02:38No, no, no, no, no. Go, go, go, go, go, go.
- 2:02:40He was about to pull over. He was about to pull over.
- 2:02:41Well, Carl? Named it the white lightning.
- 2:02:43And I was like, I was like, I kind of want to, I wanted, I
- 2:02:46wanted to paint it black. But now I'm thinking maybe we'll
- 2:02:48leave some white in there and like, then you can call.
- 2:02:50Him. Michael Jackson.
- 2:02:51Dude what? If what if it was like the eight
- 2:02:53that might happen? With a little like.
- 2:02:56Stripe. That orange stripe that the
- 2:02:57A-Team got on the red sign? Something.
- 2:02:59Like that, Was it red? I'm pretty sure it's.
- 2:03:00Red What if the Rs. Was white and it was lightning
- 2:03:02at the end or something. I don't even I don't like any of
- 2:03:06these ideas. Let's just leave it white and
- 2:03:08hit it with a turbo can. Well, you can.
- 2:03:10Paint. Thank God.
- 2:03:10So you're going to paint the whole thing, right?
- 2:03:11That's insane, actually. I kind of want to repaint the
- 2:03:14Escalade. Want to do it?
- 2:03:17Dude, I had. To turn.
- 2:03:18Away. I had to turn away a truck the
- 2:03:21other day because I can't fit it in my booth.
- 2:03:23What I want small. It.
- 2:03:24Was a Dodge Ram that he with like a a bigger bed too and I
- 2:03:30was like pro. What is he?
- 2:03:32What do you think? I'm going to do with this thing.
- 2:03:34And he's like, well, you can't put like half of it in and then
- 2:03:36do the other half. And I'm like, no, that is not
- 2:03:39how this works. And it's like one of my close
- 2:03:42friends from like years ago, too.
- 2:03:45Yeah, I don't know from years. Ago, years and.
- 2:03:47Years ago, So I would have loved to.
- 2:03:48I'm like, dude, you know, I would love to help you out, but
- 2:03:51I really I can't. Just go out some big ass.
- 2:03:54I I said we could do a tent. Yeah, I was.
- 2:03:57Going to say just do a tent. And then just like do it really
- 2:03:59quickly lives in a neighborhood those.
- 2:04:01Bayside guys or is it Bayside S14S?
- 2:04:0514 I'm. Sorry, we know the Bayside.
- 2:04:08Guys pretty well. So Bayside.
- 2:04:09S14 ISS 13 Well. S14 the the really tall guy, not
- 2:04:16Kevin. Oh my God.
- 2:04:18Anyways, then he paints cars outside, outside free air.
- 2:04:22I've I used to do that too. It's just the result.
- 2:04:26Yeah, I know. Like.
- 2:04:27I my my goal is to get that finished.
- 2:04:30That's like right out of the gun type, like right out.
- 2:04:35And that way your money is like, it's not should never really be
- 2:04:39always about the money like, but the money is if it comes out, my
- 2:04:44time is paid for already, like the job's done.
- 2:04:48I don't have to worry about correcting it.
- 2:04:50Like that kit that I painted before we were leaving.
- 2:04:53I saw it curing, you know, I saw the the finish and I already
- 2:04:57didn't like it. So now while that's going on, my
- 2:04:59roommate is cut and buffing it. Like that job could have just
- 2:05:03went out if I just sprayed it with maybe, maybe, maybe like
- 2:05:07the environment was different or the primary in this case, it was
- 2:05:10a primer. I've never used that primer
- 2:05:11again. And I'm doing like checks and
- 2:05:13balances shit just like you're going to do here, dude.
- 2:05:16You're going to find out stuff you don't like and stuff you
- 2:05:17like, and then you come up with your own system, the Chubbington
- 2:05:21system. Is that a thing that you use?
- 2:05:23Yeah, he keeps. Putting ink tin on everything,
- 2:05:26Yeah. Are we getting?
- 2:05:27Pizza Ink tin, OK. Yeah, what time it?
- 2:05:29Is like, yeah, we should probably go.
- 2:05:30Do you have anything else that you wanted to end with John?
- 2:05:32I just. You know, I don't know what you
- 2:05:34guys wanted out of this, but that was exactly.
- 2:05:36What you gave us yeah, OK, yeah, I just.
- 2:05:38Want we just wanted to have a conversation, just have some
- 2:05:40time with the people we get to meet and yeah.
- 2:05:42It's like a pre. Hang to our hangs this weekend.
- 2:05:44Exactly. Yeah, dude.
- 2:05:45Now, now when we're hanging now, now I'm gonna that's like this
- 2:05:48was like that extra little bond that you have to make up for in
- 2:05:51the friendship. So now we got we, now we.
- 2:05:52I can have the real stories I have to I.
- 2:05:54Always like listening to Carl talk office life too, with
- 2:05:57people. Because I think it, I think it
- 2:05:58helps him. I think you.
- 2:06:00Need to leave that. Too.
- 2:06:01A lot of people talk too bro. No, because like every day,
- 2:06:04dude, my everyday Diego time to quit the day job, time to quit
- 2:06:09the day job, time to quit the day job, and I'm the person
- 2:06:11doesn't even have. To be the day job.
- 2:06:13Just that job I'm. I'm the person though that right
- 2:06:16now since it's giving me so many signs to do so.
- 2:06:19Like I have a couple other friends that I've involved with
- 2:06:23with my jobs where like, hey, for the day, if you help me
- 2:06:27prep, like I'll pay you for the day.
- 2:06:28That way you get some money. Yeah.
- 2:06:31Yeah. And then now Darrell, I get to
- 2:06:33loop Darrell in like, dude, we can both eat now.
- 2:06:36Like we we can any job that I get, you might be able to get a
- 2:06:38piece too. And then if we all manage to do
- 2:06:41this and this happens, then everybody eats and everybody
- 2:06:46gets out of what that feeling that that locked in feeling and
- 2:06:52maybe we can actually have fun maybe for the next few years of
- 2:06:55our life doing that. But job, thank you so much.
- 2:06:58Thank you guys this. Has been.
- 2:06:59Sick. Appreciate it.
- 2:07:01My. Family members out here, dude, I
- 2:07:03freaking this is this is it we got.
- 2:07:05Yeah, this has been great. It's pizza time now.
- 2:07:08Dude, it's. Hangout time man.
- 2:07:09Look at the sun, dude. Look.
- 2:07:11At. The boy wait.
- 2:07:12The sun looks really weird because it's like grey out
- 2:07:14there, but it's also sunny. Yeah, it's fucking.
- 2:07:16Crazy. No that.
- 2:07:18Looks like. It's hitting all right, time to
- 2:07:19get. Back in the fucking bang, boss,
- 2:07:21yeah. Thank you guys so much.
- 2:07:24This has been another episode. We got a few more lined up for
- 2:07:26you and. Final bout, final bout.
- 2:07:31Chopping tin. OK, goodbye.
- 2:07:39Well. Thanks guys for listening to
- 2:07:41another episode. Thank you again to Chop for
- 2:07:43having us on. I know he was, he was going
- 2:07:46above and beyond for us. He, I know originally he was
- 2:07:49going to make us a Filipino breakfast at his home, which was
- 2:07:52crazy. That didn't work out.
- 2:07:54So he had us record it at his current job over at Eric's Auto
- 2:07:59Lab. So thank you again for having us
- 2:08:02on job. And there's a car revving in the
- 2:08:05background as I record this, which is fitting, I guess.
- 2:08:11And it was a Jay-Z too, I believe that is in the
- 2:08:14background. So that's cool.
- 2:08:16He also brought us two breakfast options.
- 2:08:20We had Donuts. And he also had McDonald's
- 2:08:23catered, catered to us that that morning.
- 2:08:25So we couldn't, we couldn't ask for a better, a better makeshift
- 2:08:31studio, if you will. But yeah, had a great episode
- 2:08:35and love seeing him all weekend. Chop made all of us feel very at
- 2:08:39home here. He was messing around with all
- 2:08:42my employees and playing jokes on him at the entire event.
- 2:08:46It was honestly, it was he. He made this event very, very
- 2:08:49fun for us. So thank you again to Eric and
- 2:08:52we hope to see you again on the next one.
- 2:08:55We'll probably go back out there and just record more next year
- 2:08:58with him as well. So I do look forward to that.
