- 0:00Speaker 1: And now a brief musical interlude. It's one more thing.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I'm strong and getty.
- 0:06Speaker 1: One more thing.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I don't know what that is, but before we get
- 0:11Speaker 2: to it, I am a motorcycle rider. Really, you didn't
- 0:19Speaker 2: know that.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I did not know that.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Oh man, that's my life. Man.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Oh cool?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Sometimes eight years old? Awesome. Every year I think this
- 0:29Speaker 2: might be the last year I ride, mostly because of
- 0:34Speaker 2: freaking people drive like crazy. I'm not worried about me.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm just worried about somebody hitting me. That's not you know,
- 0:40Speaker 2: texting or whatever. When you're riding a motorcycle, you start
- 0:43Speaker 2: looking in windows and everybody's texting. You think, yesh. AnyWho.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Then every year, that's.
- 0:49Speaker 1: That's the main reason I stopped. There's just no where
- 0:51Speaker 1: I could ride that I didn't have to, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 1: go through death defying traffic.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Every year the weather turns and I say, get on
- 0:58Speaker 2: my motorcycle, and I think, yeah, it's too much fun.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Next year A quick but I just saw the first
- 1:04Speaker 2: ad I've ever seen for air bags for motorcyclists. I
- 1:08Speaker 2: think I'd heard about this, but I'd never seen an
- 1:10Speaker 2: ad for it before. Wow, you wear this thing. It
- 1:14Speaker 2: looks like a plastic vest. It's got an air bag
- 1:16Speaker 2: on the front of the back, and like air bags
- 1:19Speaker 2: in the car, it can go off in milliseconds. Yeah,
- 1:23Speaker 2: and I guess that would protect you. I mean, so
- 1:27Speaker 2: I ain't gonna help my head. I didn't hurt. Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 2: that's funny. One guy I know, I got hit. He
- 1:32Speaker 2: got his his Uh. I tell my son this because
- 1:37Speaker 2: he's in the riding motorcycles.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:39Speaker 2: The number one wreck for motorcyclists is somebody turning left
- 1:42Speaker 2: in front of you. They don't see it coming. It's
- 1:44Speaker 2: that weird thing the way the brain works. You're looking
- 1:47Speaker 2: for cars, so you don't see the motorcycle. It's it's
- 1:50Speaker 2: funny that the brain can work that way. Yeah, but anyway,
- 1:55Speaker 2: that's the number one fatality wreck for motorcycles. First of all,
- 2:00Speaker 2: of all motorcycle fatalities are alcohol related, So if you
- 2:03Speaker 2: don't get drunk on your motorcycle, you cut down your
- 2:05Speaker 2: chances of dying by quite a bit. And secondly, the
- 2:08Speaker 2: number one reason is people turn left in front of you.
- 2:10Speaker 2: So I tell my son I look out for I
- 2:12Speaker 2: just assume they're going to turn Just assume I had
- 2:14Speaker 2: a friend who started riding motorcycles in his fifties. I
- 2:17Speaker 2: never like to hear that it's not the time to
- 2:20Speaker 2: pick up a new skill that requires a lot of
- 2:23Speaker 2: muscle memory that you should have built for many, many years.
- 2:25Speaker 2: But anyway, so they turned the left in front of
- 2:28Speaker 2: him and hit him in the side, and it punctured
- 2:31Speaker 2: his lungs and stuff like that. I wonder if the
- 2:33Speaker 2: airbag thing probably gonna help with that, maybe could have. Yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 2: it's intriguing, it is intriguing. But then are you laying
- 2:39Speaker 2: on top of this big pillow thing and rolling around
- 2:41Speaker 2: in the street.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I'm alive, I don't care, Yeah exactly, but it's please.
- 2:46Speaker 1: My entire life is an embarrassment. So that wouldn't you know,
- 2:49Speaker 1: that wouldn't even register. It's alit.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I have to look into that. Maybe that becomes a
- 2:52Speaker 2: thing I get for my son.
- 2:54Speaker 3: And they are looking too, I mean it looks like
- 2:56Speaker 3: a regular vest.
- 2:57Speaker 2: No, they look cool. Yeah, it helps a lot.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you don't look like the Michelin man riding
- 3:02Speaker 1: down the road. Yeah, So why do we do this first? Michael?
- 3:07Speaker 1: We're kind of cleaning out the sound Forridge, I suppose.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But clip number twenty thanks Metal Guy.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Twenty one Department moving to reclassify marijuana as a less
- 3:19Speaker 4: dangerous drug. The DEA is proposing to allow the medical
- 3:23Speaker 4: use of cannabis, acknowledging it does less harm than other
- 3:25Speaker 4: drugs like heroin and ecstasy, but the proposal would still
- 3:29Speaker 4: not legalize it for recreational use. Although many states have
- 3:32Speaker 4: already done so, the federal regulatory review will likely take months.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I've long thought it needs to be taken off of
- 3:41Speaker 1: Schedule one, just so that we can do more experiments
- 3:43Speaker 1: to understand the effect of THHC, particularly in high doses
- 3:47Speaker 1: to young brains. You can't. It's incredibly difficult and complicated
- 3:53Speaker 1: to do medical experiments with Schedule one stuff. You just
- 3:57Speaker 1: have to go through layers and layers of bureaucracy and
- 3:59Speaker 1: permits and that sort of thing. I think we ought
- 4:01Speaker 1: to be damned knowledgeable about what pot does to young brains.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Like to quote the former Governor Reagan of California, like
- 4:11Speaker 1: the day before yesterday.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Well, another thing I worry about with raising kids is,
- 4:17Speaker 2: you know, pot's legal and available everywhere. But from what
- 4:20Speaker 2: I understand, and I never got into pots, so I
- 4:23Speaker 2: don't know much about it. But like I was talking
- 4:24Speaker 2: to some of the other day pot fiend, former pot fiend,
- 4:29Speaker 2: who's just talking about pot today or the stuff you
- 4:31Speaker 2: can buy at the at the dispensaries compared to what
- 4:35Speaker 2: they smoked when they were like in high school. And
- 4:37Speaker 2: it's just a completely different world words, world of how
- 4:41Speaker 2: strong it is according to them. And so can we
- 4:44Speaker 2: come up with like different names. I mean, like as
- 4:46Speaker 2: we talk about beer and whiskey, we don't usually refer
- 4:49Speaker 2: to alcohol just in general, you know, or you had.
- 4:52Speaker 1: An alcohol last night? Right? Yeah?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Right? Can we do that with pot where we like
- 4:59Speaker 2: change what are you talking about here?
- 5:02Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's that's an interesting idea. You could you
- 5:05Speaker 1: could discuss the THHC concentration or the you know, whatever
- 5:09Speaker 1: ended up in your bloodstream. I didn't even know what
- 5:11Speaker 1: terminology to use, but yeah, you're absolutely right. I mean,
- 5:14Speaker 1: because the the you know, when I when I was
- 5:17Speaker 1: in college, we would have what we called Iowa ditchweed,
- 5:19Speaker 1: which was not very potent at all, and then occasionally
- 5:23Speaker 1: you'd get the sticky bud, the Vulcan mind eraser, and
- 5:28Speaker 1: they were completely different. It was like a glass of
- 5:30Speaker 1: beer and a glass of whiskey, as you point out,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and it's yeah, we're just we're way, way too cavalier.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I'm not anti legalization exactly, but I read a lot
- 5:41Speaker 1: about the problems of overuse, especially among young people, and
- 5:45Speaker 1: it's serious. It can cause serious, terrible neurological problems, and
- 5:49Speaker 1: you don't want to be cavalier about it. I'm a libertarian.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I believe in knowing exactly what I'm putting in my body.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And if I decide to do something stupid because I
- 5:58Speaker 1: like to alter my senses, that's my But I don't.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I'm not pro stupidity or ignorance. Know what you're doing,
- 6:06Speaker 1: Know what that substance is, what it does to your brain.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I was just reading about this syndrome where you have
- 6:11Speaker 1: permanent changes to your brain from psychedelics. It's fairly rare.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Some people will get it, like after the first time.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Some because they're acid heads. I've known acid casualties and
- 6:20Speaker 1: their lives are not good. But it became clear to
- 6:24Speaker 1: me as I got out of my younger years and
- 6:26Speaker 1: was kind of in not middle aged, but just before
- 6:29Speaker 1: it whatever, that is the idea that I'm I'm gonna
- 6:32Speaker 1: mess with my brain chemistry and then it'll go back
- 6:35Speaker 1: to normal is quite an It's a dangerous game to
- 6:39Speaker 1: play because sometimes it doesn't go back to normal and
- 6:42Speaker 1: you should know that. So there's way a sermon.
- 6:45Speaker 2: This pot fiend I was talking about was talking about
- 6:48Speaker 2: how they grew up on the East Coast and were
- 6:50Speaker 2: used to regularly using pot and then came to California
- 6:53Speaker 2: and this was years ago, but they smoke pot in California.
- 6:56Speaker 2: It's like, whoa, what the hell is that? And so
- 6:59Speaker 2: I mean, so you know, to have one term that
- 7:03Speaker 2: applies on Cheech and Chong were not, you know, sitting
- 7:06Speaker 2: around in their van. Cheach and Chong movies were popular
- 7:09Speaker 2: in the seventies and eighties there, Katie, I know, Cheaching
- 7:12Speaker 2: Chong are pot smokers, but we played guitars with Chong
- 7:16Speaker 2: in the studio once years ago. Remember that.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Tommy Chong, good charming guy. Yeah, couldn't have been sweeter.
- 7:21Speaker 2: But Cheach and Chong, we're not sitting around smoking the pot.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But it is gonna make your brain melt and you're
- 7:26Speaker 2: useless for the day. That's a different thing.
- 7:29Speaker 3: My mom thinks Cheach and Chong are the two funniest
- 7:30Speaker 3: people on the planet, And for her birthday, I got
- 7:33Speaker 3: her a cameo from Tommy Chong.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Oh cool.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yeah, of him singing Happy Birthday to my mom. It
- 7:38Speaker 3: was awesome.
- 7:39Speaker 2: What did that cost?
- 7:41Speaker 3: I think it was just like one hundred and fifty bucks?
- 7:43Speaker 3: I don't really remember.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't guess that about your mom. Okay, Oh,
- 7:49Speaker 1: speaking of which, why not, let's play clip eleven. This
- 7:52Speaker 1: is the original artist. This is Afro man.
- 7:59Speaker 5: He was gonna get his laptop fixed, but he wasn't
- 8:05Speaker 5: gonna show off and picks. Come on, Hilary Bleacht job.
- 8:22Speaker 5: He was gonna go visit is dead. But god, he
- 8:28Speaker 5: thought he had a secret stash, but the White House
- 8:35Speaker 5: got shut down.
- 8:36Speaker 2: We all know what. Come on, man, So Colin jo
- 8:49Speaker 2: just made a joke the other night at the White
- 8:52Speaker 2: House Correspondents Dinner about that being his cocaine that was
- 8:54Speaker 2: found at the White House? That ever get nailed down?
- 8:57Speaker 2: Whose cocaine that was?
- 8:59Speaker 1: No? And, as commentators pointed out, including me at the time,
- 9:03Speaker 1: the only way that answer doesn't surface is that they
- 9:09Speaker 1: didn't want the answer to surface. The Secret Service didn't
- 9:14Speaker 1: the most surveilled building on Earth, right, come on, I
- 9:23Speaker 1: have no idea who Fernando Euphrit is in clip number ten.
- 9:28Speaker 3: He's a musician and he does impressions and he's all
- 9:31Speaker 3: over Instagram and TikTok.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Okay, all right, I'm old and I'm on hip to
- 9:37Speaker 1: this sort of thing. On the other hand, I do
- 9:39Speaker 1: know the song, and I am familiar with the singer,
- 9:42Speaker 1: Michael Unleisha. Would you please you gay.
- 9:58Speaker 5: Now?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Ca name?
- 10:00Speaker 2: I want Tim back.
- 10:05Speaker 3: A bag.
- 10:10Speaker 6: I had.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Damn back.
- 10:16Speaker 2: So why is Cartman singing a Rolling Stones classic?
- 10:20Speaker 3: Because he can jack?
- 10:22Speaker 2: Because it's hilarious.
- 10:23Speaker 6: This why although in this I mean if somebody told me, hey,
- 10:29Speaker 6: you want to hear Eric Cartman sing Painted Black and
- 10:32Speaker 6: did this, I would be rolling around laughing and admiring
- 10:36Speaker 6: their skills.
- 10:36Speaker 1: A I'll do it in a second.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Part of this guy looks he's a he looks like
- 10:42Speaker 3: a big bad zezy top beard motorcycle guy, looks like
- 10:48Speaker 3: a metal rocker.
- 10:49Speaker 2: That he did he does a good Cartman.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but again I'll ai the guy's face and
- 10:57Speaker 1: his beard and the guitar and somebody singing like Cartman,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and it'll take a tenth of a second. That's copyrighting, goddamnit.
- 11:07Speaker 1: See that's that's that's that's it's right, Katie. There's no
- 11:11Speaker 1: fun in that. It's it's like sucking the soul out
- 11:14Speaker 1: of human life.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Well, we gotta we'll have to figure that out. I
- 11:18Speaker 2: don't know how people are going to react to.
- 11:20Speaker 1: That by dying off, that's how they're going to react
- 11:22Speaker 1: to it. Well, my kind is going to die off.
- 11:24Speaker 1: The example I.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Keep using it on the whole AI thing is so, uh,
- 11:27Speaker 2: computers finally got better than humans at chess. But like
- 11:31Speaker 2: competitive chess is more popular than it's ever been. It
- 11:33Speaker 2: didn't ruin it like a lot of people thought it would.
- 11:36Speaker 2: The computers are better than Magnus Carlson is the world's
- 11:39Speaker 2: best chess player, but he's the most popular chess player
- 11:41Speaker 2: since I don't know, going the way way back, So.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Is that the guy who put a viral egg up him? No?
- 11:46Speaker 2: No, no, no, he does. He does not was the
- 11:48Speaker 2: other guy? He does not chang But anyway, so people
- 11:50Speaker 2: still appreciate the human bees.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Wait, Katie's making.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Her Wait a minute, what did you miss?
- 11:57Speaker 1: What?
- 11:57Speaker 2: There was a competitive chess guy who was winning a
- 12:00Speaker 2: lot of matches, and they finally figured out that he
- 12:02Speaker 2: was cheating by he had he had suitcased a vibrating
- 12:08Speaker 2: piece of equipment that.
- 12:11Speaker 1: His confederate who was watching the match would signal him
- 12:15Speaker 1: the proper move to make, so.
- 12:17Speaker 2: He had allegedly. I don't think it's allegedly. I think
- 12:20Speaker 2: it's nailed down.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Let's see at night too, King three. So how did
- 12:26Speaker 3: they how did they bust him?
- 12:30Speaker 1: They strip search at the end of every match?
- 12:35Speaker 2: Did this happen? We went, We went pretty uh yeah,
- 12:38Speaker 2: what you don't when you play chess, you don't have
- 12:40Speaker 2: a body cavity search. That's just part of the routine.
- 12:42Speaker 2: By the way, the game is chest Michael. Uh, we
- 12:47Speaker 2: went big on this story because it was so damned
- 12:49Speaker 2: entertaining at the time. So he was he was not
- 12:51Speaker 2: that good a chess player, because they actually have rankings,
- 12:54Speaker 2: and he was not the good and all of a
- 12:55Speaker 2: sudden he started beating all these people, so they knew
- 12:57Speaker 2: something was up, and uh, how about you up?
- 13:02Speaker 1: Hey?
- 13:03Speaker 2: How they figured he had a vibrating egg up his heinie?
- 13:06Speaker 2: I don't remember how they nailed that down. Oh boy,
- 13:09Speaker 2: that's a commitment to the sport.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Though the sport of chess, you're gonna feel a little
- 13:14Speaker 1: pressure and it's soft to the chess board, and.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I'd be thinking to the chess player who's watching the
- 13:21Speaker 2: match and giving me hints. Oh was that two dots
- 13:24Speaker 2: and one dash or two? I hate to do it,
- 13:26Speaker 2: ask for it again, but I missed that signal?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Rat or maybe you start thinking, hey, yeah, give me
- 13:31Speaker 1: that signal and again, just so I can be sure.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I missed that one. How about four more times
- 13:36Speaker 2: on that signal?
- 13:37Speaker 3: I wonder how many options of cheating they went through
- 13:39Speaker 3: before they landed on this one.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Seems like there would have to be a better one. Yeah,
- 13:42Speaker 2: maybe yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 1: His confederate kept coming up with other ideas. He say, no,
- 13:47Speaker 1: let's go with you.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Now, I'm committed to having the egg up me. Well,
- 13:55Speaker 2: I could just get a laser pointer and maybe shine
- 13:57Speaker 2: on the wall. No, no, no, no care, I think
- 14:00Speaker 2: let me stick with the egg.
- 14:05Speaker 3: There's a guy that was a backgammon champion, but I'm
- 14:07Speaker 3: not going to tell the story. It's too horrible.
- 14:11Speaker 1: String and away, yess
- 14:15Speaker 2: Well, I guess that's it.
