- 0:36Speaker 2: No?
- 0:37Speaker 1: Okay, all right, So just making sure I'm not full
- 0:39Speaker 1: of it because I know, I know.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I have two daughters.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Okay, all right, so perfect, No other Andrews, No other Andrews.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Perfect. Well, it's great to talk with you, my friend.
- 0:49Speaker 1: How was your new year?
- 0:50Speaker 2: By the way, it was really good.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Actually took the fam to Chicago and saw some cool
- 0:55Speaker 3: fireworks and you know, he it was good time.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Sounds like, sounds like a good time, sounds like a
- 1:00Speaker 1: lot of fun and what and I feel like every
- 1:03Speaker 1: every winter we at least one or two shows we
- 1:06Speaker 1: do together. This phrase comes out, what a weird winter
- 1:09Speaker 1: it's been.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I don't know if they're I don't know if they're
- 1:13Speaker 3: weird anymore.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Or just different.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yeah at least, oh, go ahead.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I'm just I'm just of the mindset that, you know,
- 1:22Speaker 3: if it's going to be cold, might as well just
- 1:24Speaker 3: have some snow.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, at least there's something.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Cold and staring at brown grass.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Snow is fun. There's activities and it does it. As
- 1:35Speaker 1: he went out andrew, it looks it looks very nice.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:38Speaker 1: One of the advantages though, of holding back on the snow,
- 1:42Speaker 1: as I know, it allows your guys do work year
- 1:44Speaker 1: round and there's always work to be done and it's
- 1:47Speaker 1: never a bad time to get on the schedule Larstom services.
- 1:50Speaker 1: But I know when it comes to things like roof repair,
- 1:54Speaker 1: mother nature has kind of granted us a couple of
- 1:56Speaker 1: opportunities to be able to get some stuff taken care
- 1:59Speaker 1: of it.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It has, you know, Okay, I don't want to be selfish.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Sometimes I like it when there's not snow, simply because
- 2:07Speaker 3: we can still help more people get their roofs face.
- 2:11Speaker 2: But when there's.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Snow and a lot of thawing. We hear a lot
- 2:17Speaker 3: about leaks. The problem is really tough to find when
- 2:20Speaker 3: your house is covered in snow and ice.
- 2:22Speaker 2: So now we can find them.
- 2:24Speaker 3: And you know, I talk about the importance of, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 3: a good roof inspection, a good attic inspection all the time.
- 2:30Speaker 3: And still my guys when they all end gals, when
- 2:33Speaker 3: they get up to houses to do estimates, are asked
- 2:35Speaker 3: these questions, well, you don't need to get in my attic,
- 2:38Speaker 3: Why do you need to get in my attic?
- 2:39Speaker 2: Or you don't really need to get on my roof.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Well we do because we're not like a lot of
- 2:45Speaker 3: other contractors who do the satellite imagery and then just
- 2:50Speaker 3: give you a price. Because if we don't know exactly
- 2:53Speaker 3: what's going on, and there's critical details when it comes
- 2:56Speaker 3: to a roof that we need to.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Look at when we get up there.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Because like I said before, you know, we used to
- 3:03Speaker 3: tear roofs all the time off that the shingles were
- 3:06Speaker 3: actually fine, but they leaked, and instead of just maybe
- 3:10Speaker 3: fixing that problem, we replaced the whole roof. And I
- 3:13Speaker 3: just got sick and tired of it looking at some
- 3:15Speaker 3: of these roofs and my reps are like, yeah, it's
- 3:17Speaker 3: like eight years old, but they did a terrible job,
- 3:19Speaker 3: and it's like.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Well we can fix that.
- 3:22Speaker 3: So this year, I mean, we really took a hard
- 3:25Speaker 3: stance on if we can repair this roof or in
- 3:28Speaker 3: our term is restore it.
- 3:30Speaker 2: We like to restore it, not just to repair.
- 3:32Speaker 3: A repair in my mind is like you know, maybe
- 3:34Speaker 3: dabbing some cocks somewhere and then like crossing my fingers
- 3:37Speaker 3: and hope that it sticks and it works. But we
- 3:39Speaker 3: like to do it the right way, and sometimes it
- 3:42Speaker 3: can cost a few thousand dollars. But if we can
- 3:44Speaker 3: have a home owner spend a few thousand dollars and
- 3:46Speaker 3: fix what's wrong with the roof and get another twenty years.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Out of it, well that's totally worth it.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Now when it comes to those inspections, something comes to
- 3:54Speaker 3: mind really well is yesterday one of my rep two
- 3:58Speaker 3: days ago was running an appointment and they got called
- 4:01Speaker 3: out for a roof leak. Homeowners started seeing a little
- 4:04Speaker 3: spot on their ceiling. Well, my rep knew right away
- 4:09Speaker 3: that it wasn't a leak because what would be leaking.
- 4:13Speaker 3: There's no snow, Yeah, right, but if you look up,
- 4:16Speaker 3: you see oh my gosh, my.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Roof is leaking. Well is it leaking?
- 4:18Speaker 3: It hasn't rained or snowed in a while, but it's leaking.
- 4:22Speaker 3: And it was a brand new house. Oh that's the
- 4:24Speaker 3: worst part, brand new house. So because we trained really well,
- 4:28Speaker 3: he really knew what he was going to go and
- 4:30Speaker 3: really really had a good idea of what it actually was.
- 4:35Speaker 3: And so when he asked the homeowners, Hey, you know,
- 4:37Speaker 3: I need to get attic access. I need to look
- 4:39Speaker 3: in the attic, they look kind of like befuddled at him,
- 4:42Speaker 3: like why do you need to look in our attic?
- 4:43Speaker 3: And so he explained it to him, like, well, I
- 4:46Speaker 3: have an inkling that you really don't have a roof
- 4:48Speaker 3: leak and you have a condensation problem. And they had
- 4:51Speaker 3: never heard of that. And they literally looked at him
- 4:53Speaker 3: and said, we've had three people over here already and
- 4:56Speaker 3: said we don't have a roof leak, and one person said,
- 5:01Speaker 3: you just.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Need a new roof.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Oh geez, Okay, no, they didn't need a new roof.
- 5:05Speaker 3: He did a full roof inspection and the roof was
- 5:07Speaker 3: done quite well, surprisingly, and but he got up in
- 5:12Speaker 3: the attic and what did he see? He saw a
- 5:14Speaker 3: frost on the roof, he saw mold starting, he saw
- 5:18Speaker 3: rusty nails. Quiz time, why was that happening?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Sean?
- 5:23Speaker 1: Because moisture was getting up in there and freezing. Because
- 5:25Speaker 1: it wasn't properly ventilated.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I'm guessing it had great It actually had decent ventilation.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Oh it was.
- 5:32Speaker 3: The ventilation was okay, it was slightly lacking. We're actually
- 5:36Speaker 3: going to be adding a ridge vent. It had box vents. Oh,
- 5:38Speaker 3: but it did have ventilation. The problem was is this
- 5:41Speaker 3: house has three and a half bathrooms, seven or eight
- 5:47Speaker 3: people with all their kids, so basically there's a lot
- 5:50Speaker 3: of cooking, a lot of bathing going on in this house,
- 5:53Speaker 3: a lot of moisture, and there was absolutely no air
- 5:55Speaker 3: ceiling done on the attic floor. It had inadequate insulation.
- 5:59Speaker 3: So what we thought was a roof leak. And I
- 6:04Speaker 3: mean they were actually ready to say, okay, just replace
- 6:06Speaker 3: our roof.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Now, how bad would have that been.
- 6:08Speaker 3: They replaced their roof and it does nothing on a
- 6:11Speaker 3: three year old house.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You shouldn't have to replace you, So, condensation problem.
- 6:16Speaker 3: So it's fun being able to go in and like
- 6:19Speaker 3: really educate somebody on how their home is working. Yes,
- 6:22Speaker 3: you have ventilation, it's inadequate, and you have no air ceiling.
- 6:27Speaker 3: While our other house, why did this happen? That was
- 6:29Speaker 3: the our other house.
- 6:30Speaker 2: This didn't happen. Why is it happening now. Well, it's
- 6:32Speaker 2: a new house.
- 6:35Speaker 3: And there's a lot of it's just a lot of bathing, a.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Lot of cooking, a lot of moisture.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Because the more people we have in the house, the.
- 6:42Speaker 2: More moisture is going to be created.
- 6:43Speaker 3: So we're going to actually do an ultimate addict solution
- 6:47Speaker 3: for them where we I mean, it's the best solution
- 6:49Speaker 3: for the attic in there.
- 6:50Speaker 2: So we're going to stop that.
- 6:51Speaker 3: We're going to stop that condensation on the attic so
- 6:54Speaker 3: they'll have no more leak. We're going to increase the
- 6:57Speaker 3: ventilation in their roof by putting on ridge vent make
- 6:59Speaker 3: sure we know that it's vending properly. And the byproduct
- 7:02Speaker 3: of that is it's going to make their home more
- 7:04Speaker 3: comfortable and it's going to save them money on their
- 7:05Speaker 3: energy bill, So it's kind of a it's a win
- 7:07Speaker 3: win and they don't have to replace the roof.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Hey do you by the way, Andrew, and I think
- 7:10Speaker 1: you've mentioned this before occasionally, and this is even on
- 7:12Speaker 1: new homes, you'll see as you were talking about, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: multiple bathrooms with showers and stuff like that, where they'll
- 7:19Speaker 1: have in the bathroom they'll have a fan, but the
- 7:22Speaker 1: fan will literally just have a little tube that blows
- 7:25Speaker 1: all that hot humid air up into the attic. And
- 7:27Speaker 1: we've talked about that before, haven't we where it's just
- 7:30Speaker 1: not installed properly.
- 7:31Speaker 3: We see it all the time all the time, where
- 7:35Speaker 3: you look up and the tube coming from that vent
- 7:40Speaker 3: is literally just stapled to a rafter and it's just
- 7:43Speaker 3: blowing moisture and you'll see all around that in a
- 7:47Speaker 3: three to four foot circle, it's all mold.
- 7:51Speaker 2: It's all mold.
- 7:52Speaker 3: So someone overlooked it, a building inspector missed it. We vent, so,
- 7:57Speaker 3: needless to say, we vent a lot of those happens
- 8:01Speaker 3: a lot too. If you had that, maybe your house
- 8:04Speaker 3: didn't have a bath fan in it, because a lot
- 8:06Speaker 3: of older homes didn't.
- 8:07Speaker 2: You had one put on or put in.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Electrician put one in, and that's you know, they probably
- 8:13Speaker 3: told the homeowner, you're gonna have to get this vented out,
- 8:15Speaker 3: and it just didn't happen because electricians do electrician things,
- 8:19Speaker 3: not roofing thing. Yeah, so we see them all the time.
- 8:23Speaker 3: My last house, I was up there doing the work
- 8:26Speaker 3: in my attic myself and I found that and I
- 8:28Speaker 3: actually had was going to be having the roof replaced,
- 8:31Speaker 3: and so much moisture had been blown up there and
- 8:33Speaker 3: it actually rotted the decking out, so we had to
- 8:36Speaker 3: replace the decking as well.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And that was just from that fan blowing up there.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So I guess the moral of the story is everything
- 8:43Speaker 2: isn't always what it seems.
- 8:44Speaker 3: And if someone's coming over to fix, to give you
- 8:48Speaker 3: a solution on something you need to fix, for make
- 8:49Speaker 3: sure it's properly inspected. If you think you have a
- 8:52Speaker 3: roof leak and they don't get on the roof, well
- 8:56Speaker 3: how are they going to know what's happening or where
- 8:57Speaker 3: it's coming from. And when you're if is three years old,
- 9:02Speaker 3: or you're getting a roof leak in the winter when
- 9:04Speaker 3: it's not raining or snowing, that's there's something else going on.
- 9:08Speaker 3: And I'm just happy, kind of proud that our guys
- 9:11Speaker 3: are trained well enough to actually find that and help
- 9:14Speaker 3: a homeowner fix it.
- 9:15Speaker 1: And that's such an important thing is as you as
- 9:17Speaker 1: you illustrate Andrew is having that proper inspection, and you
- 9:20Speaker 1: can have Andrew and the team come out from larstom
- 9:22Speaker 1: Service and not going to charge anything to take a look.
- 9:24Speaker 1: You've got a question about maybe maybe you're noticing something,
- 9:27Speaker 1: maybe you're just looking up at the roof and going,
- 9:29Speaker 1: you know what this is? It's getting a little long
- 9:31Speaker 1: in the two. It's a great day to give them
- 9:32Speaker 1: a call Larsen Home Services, start that conversation, get them

- 9:52Speaker 1: importance of actually doing a full on inspection. Remember again,
- 9:55Speaker 1: I go back to a number of years ago when
- 9:57Speaker 1: you guys did our roof. We knew the roof was
- 10:00Speaker 1: it was going to need to be replaced. It was
- 10:02Speaker 1: that was a fact. When you guys showed up, we
- 10:04Speaker 1: knew that that was something that had to happen. But
- 10:06Speaker 1: your guys still went up in the attic they still
- 10:07Speaker 1: looked around. They got an amazingly detailed rundown of what
- 10:12Speaker 1: all was going to be done because of that inspection.
- 10:14Speaker 1: That's a great thing with Andrew and the team at
- 10:16Speaker 1: Larsnome Services. They will give you that thorough inspection. You
