  SPEAKER_04: The can't tuna winner.
• 0:54
  SPEAKER_04: I'm the person.
• 0:55
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 0:56
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 0:57
SPEAKER_01: So uh this is a little game that we like to play every once in a while.
• 1:01
SPEAKER_01: Um, with the sold cars roundup from Hemmings.com.
• 1:05
SPEAKER_01: These cars were on their website and uh they sold.
• 1:09
SPEAKER_01: And so the the goal here is to guess what the car sold for.
• 1:15
SPEAKER_01: So our first one up this morning is going to be the 1966 Dodge W 100.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_01: I didn't even know there was such a truck.
• 1:26
  SPEAKER_05: The W.
• 1:28
SPEAKER_01: But actually, that's a pretty good looking truck.
• 1:30
  SPEAKER_01: It is.
• 1:30
  SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
• 1:31
SPEAKER_01: Uh standard cab, two doors.
• 1:33
  SPEAKER_01: Nothing fancy.
• 1:34
  SPEAKER_01: Remember this 1966.
• 1:35
SPEAKER_01: So how much do you think that that thing sold for?
• 1:38
  SPEAKER_01: $4,000.
• 1:40
  SPEAKER_01: Jeff says$4,000.
• 1:42
SPEAKER_01: Would you like to guess, Mr.
• 1:43
  SPEAKER_01: Ainsley?
• 1:45
  SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
• 1:45
  SPEAKER_01: Uh$8,000.
• 1:48
  SPEAKER_01: $8,000.
• 1:49
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 1:49
  SPEAKER_01: Uh Jeff Heisman says$14?
• 1:51
  SPEAKER_01: It sold for$9,500.
• 1:54
  SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
• 1:54
  SPEAKER_01: I was good.
• 1:55
SPEAKER_01: See, I think that that would be I think that that would be a good pickup truck to have.
• 1:59
  SPEAKER_01: Easy to work on.
• 2:01
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree.
• 2:01
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 2:02
  SPEAKER_01: Next up.
• 2:04
  SPEAKER_01: A 1968 Dodge Coronet.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_01: Now remember that you know the Coronet was, I think, the roadrunner and uh all of those.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_02: It was the baseline for that.
• 2:21
  SPEAKER_02: Right.
• 2:22
  SPEAKER_06: Okay.
• 2:22
  SPEAKER_06: I'm saying 21.
• 2:23
  SPEAKER_06: Uh there's a David Lusk that says 22.8.
• 2:26
  SPEAKER_06: 22.8.
• 2:27
SPEAKER_06: What would you say, David?
• 2:28
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
• 2:29
SPEAKER_04: I'm still seeing the truck.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_01: You still seeing the truck.
• 2:32
  SPEAKER_04: No, you're not.
• 2:33
  SPEAKER_04: There he goes.
• 2:34
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
• 2:34
  SPEAKER_04: Hang on.
• 2:35
  SPEAKER_04: It just switched.
• 2:36
  SPEAKER_01: Here, here, here.
• 2:36
  SPEAKER_01: Here are my glasses.
• 2:40
  SPEAKER_01: 19,000.
• 2:41
  SPEAKER_01: 19,000.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_01: Well, this particular car apparently is pretty correct because it sold for 34,600.
• 2:48
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Heitzman gave it a 21 as well.
• 2:50
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 2:52
SPEAKER_01: This would have been yours, the next car up, a 1993 Cadillac Alante.
• 3:00
  SPEAKER_01: Oh.
• 3:00
SPEAKER_01: This car was built in Italy.
• 3:03
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 3:04
SPEAKER_01: And it was flown to the United States.
• 3:07
  SPEAKER_06: Designed by Pinophero?
• 3:10
  SPEAKER_01: Pininfarina.
• 3:11
  SPEAKER_01: Pinophere.
• 3:12
  SPEAKER_01: Pininfarina.
• 3:13
SPEAKER_01: And at the time, now remember 93.
• 3:16
SPEAKER_01: This was a hot commodity.
• 3:18
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 3:19
SPEAKER_01: And it was expensive too.
• 3:21
SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to all of the height.
• 3:25
SPEAKER_03: When they shipped it in, didn't they have to ship it in in pieces?
• 3:28
  SPEAKER_03: I think so.
• 3:29
SPEAKER_03: To to follow the they were dodging some taxes or some something.
• 3:33
  SPEAKER_06: Jeff Heitzman says 26.
• 3:35
  SPEAKER_06: I'm going to say 17.
• 3:38
SPEAKER_01: David, would you like to give it a whirl?
• 3:41
  SPEAKER_01: 8,000.
• 3:43
  SPEAKER_01: $9,000.
• 3:45
  SPEAKER_01: There you go.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_01: You just want a car.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_01: And uh I've actually rode in several of these, and they rode great.
• 3:51
SPEAKER_01: I never liked them even.
• 3:53
  SPEAKER_03: I never liked them.
• 3:54
  SPEAKER_03: It's ugly.
• 3:55
  SPEAKER_01: Next up.
• 3:57
SPEAKER_01: Now I probably prepped this car over at Richardson Chevrolet because this was my day when I was working there.
• 4:04
SPEAKER_01: In 1970, Chevy Monte Carlo.
• 4:07
SPEAKER_01: Wasn't that 70 the year that they came out?
• 4:10
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 4:10
  SPEAKER_01: Or was it 69?
• 4:11
  SPEAKER_01: I think 70.
• 4:14
SPEAKER_01: So this is the first model year vehicle, a 70 Monte Carlo.
• 4:18
SPEAKER_01: I'll never forget when these cars came in.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_01: Of course, the dealership had them hidden in the new car make ready building and all that.
• 4:25
SPEAKER_01: And of course, us and all the mechanics would come out there and look at it because of a brand, brand, brand new car.
• 4:30
SPEAKER_01: Kathy has a house open.
• 4:31
SPEAKER_06: Kathy had a 70 Malibu that color.
• 4:33
SPEAKER_01: You open the hood on this car, and there's about three feet between the radiator and the front of the motor.
• 4:42
SPEAKER_01: It's all nothing up under there.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_06: You could actually stand in there.
• 4:45
SPEAKER_01: Yes, you could and work on your engine.
• 4:47
SPEAKER_01: I'm going to say eight grand.
• 4:49
SPEAKER_01: Now, okay, but before you say that, let me just say this that based on the price that I'm looking at, my guess is that this is a all original car that was probably restored.
• 5:02
  SPEAKER_01: Okay?
• 5:03
SPEAKER_06: So keep that in mind as far as your Tisman says 19 and the David Lusk says 22K.
• 5:08
  SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go 17.
• 5:12
  SPEAKER_06: Ah 15.
• 5:14
  SPEAKER_01: Well, Mr.
• 5:15
  SPEAKER_01: Lusk wins.
• 5:16
  SPEAKER_01: Very good.
• 5:17
  SPEAKER_01: $23,625.
• 5:20
  SPEAKER_01: You go, buddy.
• 5:21
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 5:22
SPEAKER_01: And that that wasn't an SS.
• 5:23
SPEAKER_01: They didn't have the SS and not an OS.
• 5:25
SPEAKER_03: They came out 71 or the end of 70, 71.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_01: And remember, I think that uh it was later, I think it's 71 model or something.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_01: They had the swivel seats.
• 5:33
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, yeah.
• 5:35
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 5:35
SPEAKER_03: That was a carryover from the Osmobile brought that.
• 5:37
SPEAKER_03: Old Pontiac, I believe, too.
• 5:39
SPEAKER_01: Next up, uh, this is Leslie's car, a 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
• 5:45
SPEAKER_01: And she says, Man, if they still made that car, I'd buy that car today.
• 5:48
SPEAKER_05: Don't they make that car?
• 5:49
  SPEAKER_01: No, uh-uh.
• 5:50
SPEAKER_01: They haven't made it in years.
• 5:51
SPEAKER_05: I thought they made an FJ Cruiser.
• 5:52
  SPEAKER_01: No, no.
• 5:53
SPEAKER_01: But um this this car was based on based on the Forerunner.
• 6:00
  SPEAKER_01: Did you know that?
• 6:01
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_01: So this was a Forerunner in an FJ Cruiser form.
• 6:05
  SPEAKER_01: Two-door, off-road, SUV, scout kind of.
• 6:10
SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry, what year again?
• 6:12
  SPEAKER_01: 2014.
• 6:13
  SPEAKER_06: 2014.
• 6:15
SPEAKER_01: Again, this is probably a low miles original.
• 6:18
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 6:19
  SPEAKER_06: Heisman says 13K.
• 6:21
  SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go 14K.
• 6:24
  SPEAKER_06: 22.
• 6:25
  SPEAKER_01: 38.
• 6:26
  SPEAKER_01: Oh boy.
• 6:27
  SPEAKER_01: 850.
• 6:28
SPEAKER_04: I thought they had some value.
• 6:30
SPEAKER_02: They're like the old original Broncos.
• 6:32
SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're just like stupid, hey high.
• 6:34
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 6:35
SPEAKER_01: And remember when they when they stopped making them, the sales weren't all that great.
• 6:42
SPEAKER_01: That's why they stopped making them.
• 6:43
  SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
• 6:44
  SPEAKER_01: Next up.
• 6:46
  SPEAKER_01: A 19 and 59 Volkswagen Beetle.
• 6:51
SPEAKER_01: This is a resto mod.
• 6:53
SPEAKER_01: Um they've got the bumper in you know tucked in.
• 6:57
SPEAKER_01: Uh it's got big wheels and tires on it.
• 6:59
  SPEAKER_01: Super clean.
• 7:01
SPEAKER_01: This is my kind of vehicle.
• 7:02
SPEAKER_01: I I I would really consider something like this if it uh was a little more to my liking when it came to the price.
• 7:10
SPEAKER_01: How much do you think that the 59 VW Beetle would go for?
• 7:14
SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go forty thousand dollars.
• 7:16
  unknown: Wow.
• 7:17
  SPEAKER_06: You want to guess?
• 7:18
SPEAKER_06: Uh Heitzmann, I Heitzman says seven grand.
• 7:22
  SPEAKER_06: Um seven to forty.
• 7:25
SPEAKER_06: David Lusk says twenty-five hold value crazy.
• 7:28
  SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry, fourteen.
• 7:29
SPEAKER_06: David says four, uh, David Lusk says fourteen, I'm sorry.
• 7:32
  SPEAKER_04: I'll go eighteen.
• 7:38
  SPEAKER_06: I was close.
• 7:39
SPEAKER_06: So there's a little more to the than the rest of yeah, you don't see the jewelry box on that one.
• 7:44
  SPEAKER_03: Uh-uh.
• 7:46
  SPEAKER_03: Man.
• 7:47
  SPEAKER_03: Nice.
• 7:48
  SPEAKER_01: Uh next one.
• 7:51
SPEAKER_01: Um, it just drew my attention.
• 7:53
SPEAKER_01: This is a 73 Pontiac Firebird uh dressed in white.
• 8:00
SPEAKER_01: It looks like it's all stock.
• 8:02
SPEAKER_01: Based on the price, I'm gonna say it's probably uh an original numbers matching car.
• 8:08
  SPEAKER_01: TA.
• 8:09
  SPEAKER_03: Um, I I don't, but but I think that doesn't I'm thinking that that's like a 70 model front end.
• 8:18
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I I'm not that big on Pontiacs, but that just don't look quite right for that year model.
• 8:23
SPEAKER_01: All right, well, 73 Pontiac Firebird.
• 8:26
SPEAKER_01: Keep that in your mind when you uh tell me what you think that the correct car sold for.
• 8:32
  SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna say 15,000.
• 8:34
  SPEAKER_06: 15.
• 8:34
  SPEAKER_06: I think uh David.
• 8:36
  SPEAKER_06: What would you say?
• 8:37
  SPEAKER_06: 25.
• 8:37
  SPEAKER_01: David says twenty-five.
• 8:38
SPEAKER_06: David Less says nineteen, and I think Mr.
• 8:41
  SPEAKER_06: Heitman says twenty-three.
• 8:43
  SPEAKER_01: Twenty-six seven seventy-five.
• 8:49
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's pretty nice.
• 8:51
SPEAKER_01: Okay, and uh for our last one this morning.
• 8:53
SPEAKER_01: I have to do this because there's something appealing about these kind of trucks.
• 8:59
  SPEAKER_01: This looks like an all-original, rust-free.
• 9:04
SPEAKER_01: This is a 1951 Ford F-1, which in today's world would be an F-150.
• 9:14
SPEAKER_01: Okay, this is an F-1.
• 9:16
  SPEAKER_01: 1951.
• 9:17
SPEAKER_01: And let me tell you something.
• 9:19
SPEAKER_01: I had a 54 Chevrolet pickup truck decades ago.
• 9:24
SPEAKER_01: And boy, I'll tell you what.
• 9:27
SPEAKER_01: They've come a long way since this era in building trucks because those things were built to last, and there were no frills whatsoever.
• 9:39
  SPEAKER_06: Okay.
• 9:39
SPEAKER_06: David Less says 12.5, Jeff Heitzman says 41.
• 9:44
  SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna say 20.
• 9:47
  SPEAKER_06: 30.
• 9:50
  SPEAKER_01: 15750.
• 9:54
SPEAKER_03: Years ago, I'm talking years ago, David Less Alice.
• 9:58
SPEAKER_03: I got an assignment to come and do shoot some pictures of an F1.
• 10:02
SPEAKER_03: But it was a big block, blown, tilt front end.
• 10:06
SPEAKER_03: I mean, but whenever he walked down the street and that thing, you knew he was coming in.
• 10:10
  SPEAKER_03: It was beautiful black.
• 10:11
SPEAKER_01: See, if I had one of those, it'd be all cleaned up, original paint, and the original, I assume, six-cylinder engine in it.
• 10:20
  SPEAKER_01: 51?
• 10:21
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I would think so.
• 10:22
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 10:22
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 10:23
SPEAKER_01: An inline six, normally aspirated, single carburetor, no horsepower, tons of torque.
• 10:30
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it probably had a three on the column.
• 10:33
  SPEAKER_04: Three on the tree.
• 10:34
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 10:35
  SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
• 10:36
SPEAKER_01: I I would I there's something about the original truck that um just does it for me.
• 10:44
  SPEAKER_01: It's plain, it's simple, it's nothing fancy.
• 10:47
  SPEAKER_01: Clean it up.
• 10:48
  SPEAKER_01: Sleeper.
• 10:49
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 10:50
SPEAKER_03: Well not really a sleeper.
• 10:52
SPEAKER_03: You know, because you you you're not gonna go blow somebody's door light.
• 10:57
SPEAKER_01: But I would have a really nice, easy on-the-knee clutch pedal on it, and a new clutch on it with a nice balanced flywheel and clutch plate.
• 11:11
SPEAKER_01: And boy, I'll tell you what, that thing would last forever.
• 11:15
SPEAKER_01: Of course, you could only do about 50 top speed in it.
• 11:18
SPEAKER_03: Well, but traffic here in Houston, what a you're not gonna go much faster than you like.
• 11:23
SPEAKER_03: Well, depending on the time of day, too.
• 11:25
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 11:26
SPEAKER_03: Don wouldn't even on a free freeway.
• 11:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, wouldn't even entertain that.
• 11:30
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 11:31
SPEAKER_01: Uh so that was that, and thank you very much for playing.
• 11:33
  SPEAKER_01: And Mr.
• 11:34
SPEAKER_01: Lusk, welcome to our little game that we play, and we appreciate you participating.
• 11:38
  SPEAKER_01: Everybody can participate.
• 11:39
SPEAKER_01: How do they participate, Mr.
• 11:40
  SPEAKER_01: Morris?
• 11:42
SPEAKER_03: They can go into either Facebook or YouTube either one and watch the live stream and use the live chat to uh click into it and send us the message and we pick it up off of either one of them.
• 11:53
SPEAKER_01: That's who both of these fellas are on.
• 11:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you can do that anytime, really.
• 11:56
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
• 11:56
SPEAKER_03: Actually, you want to make a comment during the show?
• 11:59
  SPEAKER_03: Uh do it.
• 12:01
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, do it.
• 12:02
  SPEAKER_03: We'll we'll try to do that.
• 12:02
SPEAKER_01: You can even say hateful things.
• 12:04
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 12:04
  SPEAKER_01: We'll just ignore those.
• 12:05
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and we have George wasn't playing today, so we hope George is okay.
• 12:08
  SPEAKER_06: George is okay.
• 12:09
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 12:10
  SPEAKER_01: Always worried about George.
• 12:12
  SPEAKER_06: I know.
• 12:12
SPEAKER_01: He's he's not been in great health, and uh George Skelton is who we're referring to and love George.

• 14:01
SPEAKER_00: If it thrills you, you'll find fun for the whole family.
• 14:04
  SPEAKER_00: Get your tickets now.
• 14:05
  SPEAKER_00: The Houston Automotive Show.
• 14:07
SPEAKER_00: Making waves and fueling adventure.
• 14:11
SPEAKER_01: Welcome back to the In-Wheel Time Car Talk Show.
• 14:14
SPEAKER_01: We invite you to join our live broadcast every Saturday, 10 to noon.
• 14:18
SPEAKER_01: We're going to try to be on um, I think 9 to noon at the Houston Automotive Show.
• 14:25
  SPEAKER_01: That's the goal.
• 14:26
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 14:28
SPEAKER_01: And we'll see if that works.
• 14:30
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 14:31
SPEAKER_01: But you you raise doubt in my mind that that's going to happen.
• 14:36
SPEAKER_03: I have no doubt that it's going to happen.
• 14:39
  SPEAKER_01: You had doubt earlier.
• 14:41
  SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
• 14:42
  SPEAKER_03: I was.
• 14:44
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we can get in there.
• 14:46
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because I think Rochelle on those days she's there like at 6 30 because of the TVs and things she does.
• 14:52
  unknown: Okay.
• 14:54
SPEAKER_01: She should have hired me, I'm telling you.
• 14:56
SPEAKER_02: I'd be a great spokesperson for the Houston Automotive Show.
• 14:58
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 14:59
  SPEAKER_01: Uh, time now.
• 15:02
SPEAKER_02: You could stand out front with a bell.
• 15:04
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, I could.
• 15:06
SPEAKER_01: And that would be right.
• 15:07
SPEAKER_00: And come on in, David.
• 15:09
SPEAKER_01: Like you said, the Walmart door greeter.
• 15:11
  SPEAKER_01: There you go.
• 15:13
SPEAKER_01: Time now for the racing calendar, Jeffrey.
• 15:15
  SPEAKER_01: Well, there's a lot of people.
• 15:16
SPEAKER_06: Brought to you by Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge.
• 15:20
  SPEAKER_06: Thank you for that.
• 15:21
SPEAKER_06: Not a whole lot of racing going on because the season is winding up.
• 15:23
SPEAKER_06: You got Daytona, we'll have more information on Daytona a little later.
• 15:26
SPEAKER_06: But David mentioned I got hiccups.
• 15:29
SPEAKER_06: David mentioned General Motors'$6 billion hit.
• 15:34
SPEAKER_06: On Thursday of last week, they lose another$6 billion as a result of the decision to pack up the electric car process.
• 15:42
SPEAKER_06: It comes of a$1.6 billion charge to disclose in October, but only$6 billion of this is involved.
• 15:49
SPEAKER_06: It's another sign of the significant cost of traditional automakers after the President recently said that they were intended to go foster the adoption of zero emission vehicles.
• 15:59
SPEAKER_06: GM and other automakers invested heavily in EV plans in participation, in anticipation of stringent environmental regulations put in place by the previous administration.
• 16:10
SPEAKER_06: They also expected some states to follow along and take the lead of California and bad gas ban gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
• 16:20
SPEAKER_06: But this administration rolled back those emissions, uh, those rules are gone, financial support for the EVs is also gone.
• 16:27
SPEAKER_06: Electric cars aren't going away entirely, however, a significant demand remains in the United States and actually flourishing in other countries around the world.
• 16:37
SPEAKER_06: Much of GM's$6 billion, David, charged against its earnings, will go towards settling canceled contracts of suppliers of the parts for the EVs.
• 16:48
SPEAKER_06: So that's where they charge it back.
• 16:49
SPEAKER_06: They got to pay all those contracts out.
• 16:51
SPEAKER_06: GM did not announce that it would be discontinuing any particular electric cars at the moment, nor did it announce that it would be closing any factories or cutting any jobs, but it had already announced in October that it would be eliminating one shift at the Factory Zero EV plant in Detroit, placing 1,200 hourly workers on indefinite layoff, and it also placed 550 workers at an EV battery plant in Ohio on indefinite layoff.
• 17:19
SPEAKER_06: So it's a big hit for Jam to paying out now because they know that the future is going to be back to the gasoline motors.
• 17:26
  SPEAKER_06: So there you go.
• 17:27
SPEAKER_04: How about the other manufacturers?
• 17:31
  SPEAKER_01: Still antes.
• 17:32
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 17:33
SPEAKER_01: They've cut all that off.
• 17:34
  SPEAKER_01: Oh well.
• 17:35
SPEAKER_03: Ford's backing out of theirs.
• 17:37
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 17:38
SPEAKER_03: You know, they what was the truck?
• 17:39
  SPEAKER_03: The big EV truck.
• 17:40
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and then they had a fire at one of the plants, too.
• 17:42
SPEAKER_01: Well, that was at a aluminum stamping plant.
• 17:45
  SPEAKER_01: In Detroit, yeah.
• 17:46
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 17:46
  SPEAKER_01: So it's it's it's a big mess right now.
• 17:49
SPEAKER_06: So it's cyclical, it's you know, hype, hype, hype, and then boom, you're gonna pay the piper at the end.
• 17:54
  SPEAKER_01: All right, Mr.
• 17:55
SPEAKER_01: Barnes, this week in auto history.
• 17:57
  SPEAKER_03: Yes, sir.
• 17:57
SPEAKER_03: Found lots of things that I think are real interesting, and and I wanted to note that since we started doing this, we started out, oh, this happened, this happened, but it's starting to come together to where things build on top of each other.
• 18:08
SPEAKER_03: So, for example, in 1896, Charles and Frank Jury sold the first Jourier motor wagon.
• 18:15
SPEAKER_03: Now, this is the first recognized sale of an American gasoline-powered automobile, which literally single singly started to launch the U.S.
• 18:24
  SPEAKER_03: auto industry.
• 18:26
SPEAKER_03: Now, going into that, another step that happened in 1909, Cadillac came up with interchangeable parts.
• 18:33
SPEAKER_03: Now, they demonstrated this because they went to England and they won a competition over there and showed that interchangeable automotive parts with precision manufacturing could work on a larger scale.
• 18:45
SPEAKER_03: So that's how they kind of started moving the industry towards the mass production.
• 18:49
SPEAKER_03: Then you look at it in 1913, is when Henry Ford perfects the moving assembly line.
• 18:55
SPEAKER_03: Now, these things kind of tie in together because of the way the parts are, so that Henry Ford gets these ideas and starts uh by the innovation which actually cut the Model T build time from over 12 hours to about 90 minutes.
• 19:10
  SPEAKER_03: That's huge.
• 19:10
SPEAKER_03: Wages rose, and so car ownership exploded from that because people could readily get to them.
• 19:30
SPEAKER_03: And it quickly got people accelerating away from the manual gearboxes because it was just considered uh uh easier, it was nicer, and it was just a luxury feel to this.
• 19:43
SPEAKER_03: And uh then in 1953, power steering reached the mass markets when Chevrolet expanded theirs beyond it, was just the luxury models.
• 19:54
SPEAKER_03: So they started putting it on other vehicles, which got it down into more into the mainstream.
• 20:00
SPEAKER_03: In 1964, the Chevrolet Impala was tops in U.S.
• 20:04
  SPEAKER_03: sales.
• 20:04
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
• 20:05
SPEAKER_03: And you know, hot rods for years have been looking at the 64 Impala and several years around there.
• 20:10
SPEAKER_03: But because of its size and comfort, it just really hit with the American people, and then it became a hot rod.
• 20:17
SPEAKER_03: Well, hot rods and low riders.
• 20:18
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
• 20:19
SPEAKER_03: In 1972, of course, you've got to have a few hiccups as you go along in this development process.
• 20:24
SPEAKER_03: The Chevrolet responded to growing criticism of the Vega engine durability, and actually it's whenever they started looking at it and started taking it out.
• 20:34
SPEAKER_03: And it was the troubles from the Vega that actually caused it to be dropped across the industry.
• 20:41
SPEAKER_03: 1986, Audi brings all-wheel drive sedans to America.
• 20:45
SPEAKER_03: And I did not realize that that was what happened when they brought their all-wheel drives across because of the rally racing they were doing in other parts of the world.
• 20:53
SPEAKER_03: It really came across and brought in the you know traction and stuff where people could use it for you know in mud and snow and things like that.
• 21:01
SPEAKER_03: So if you look at auto history, including coming up to 2002, when it really steps into the drive-by-wire throttle system.
• 21:10
SPEAKER_03: Now, we always get up underneath the hood, you reach up there and grab the throttle cable on the carburetor, and you blip the carburetor and up pop the butterflies a couple of times.
• 21:18
SPEAKER_03: Lots of fun, particularly at the drag chip.
• 21:20
SPEAKER_03: You can't do that no more.
• 21:22
SPEAKER_03: It's all drive-by-wire through the throttle bodies, and it's all part of the computer mechanisms that gets us to where we're at.
• 21:27
SPEAKER_03: Of course, this is what helps with our fuel economy, and it also gives assistance to the semi-autonomous driving systems that are being developed for the U.S.
• 21:36
SPEAKER_01: And it also ends the show on a very ugly note.
• 21:40
  SPEAKER_01: Depressing.
• 21:41
SPEAKER_01: We don't want to hear it.
• 21:44
SPEAKER_01: But there are still you don't have to have those.
• 21:46
SPEAKER_01: No, you don't still go to the five and dime and buy yourself a Holly four-barrel carburetor.
• 21:52
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
• 21:53
SPEAKER_03: Or you can buy even a fuel injection that looks like Holly carbon.
• 21:56
  SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
• 21:56
SPEAKER_03: I was just about to say that.
• 21:57
  SPEAKER_03: Very popular.
• 21:58
SPEAKER_03: But that was some of the things we found this week in in automotive history.
• 22:01
SPEAKER_03: And like I say, it started clicking how if you look back through it, how things build on themselves.
• 22:07
  SPEAKER_01: Except EVs.
• 22:08
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, sorry, I didn't say that, did I?
• 22:11
SPEAKER_01: Some of the stories making automotive news headlines this week.
• 22:15
SPEAKER_01: Despite an industry-wide push to go paperless and digitize the car buying experience, customers still mostly prefer to visit a dealership for financing and take home physical documents, according to two studies.
• 22:28
SPEAKER_01: CDK Global's 2025 FI Shopper study, published in September, found 55% of customers signed paper versions of the necessary auto deal documents, and 53% said that was their preference.
• 22:41
SPEAKER_01: Study ran from mid-April through May and received responses from 1,300 consumers.
• 22:47
SPEAKER_01: 62 percent of consumers received physical copies of the documents at the end of the auto deal, and 53 percent said they preferred to leave with such hard copies.
• 22:56
SPEAKER_01: Give me the receipt, dang it.
• 22:58
  SPEAKER_01: I bought it.
• 22:58
  SPEAKER_01: I want I want something.
• 23:00
  SPEAKER_06: I bought something for my$50,000.
• 23:02
  SPEAKER_06: I got a flash drive.
• 23:03
SPEAKER_06: All my paperwork is on a flash drive.
• 23:04
  SPEAKER_06: And I signed a computer.
• 23:05
  SPEAKER_06: I scribbled to a touch screen.
• 23:07
SPEAKER_01: Well, because you were always that kind of rambunctious youngster, always pushing the edge.
• 23:13
  SPEAKER_05: I guess.
• 23:14
SPEAKER_01: Stillanis has cancelled its full lineup of plug-in hybrid vehicles that it spent the past five years turning into some of the segment's top sellers.
• 23:41
SPEAKER_01: Wow is among the vehicles the company has canceled for the 2026 model year.
• 23:49
SPEAKER_01: I've got a series of stuff here for uh Ford Motor Company, drastically scaling back its electric vehicle plans and refocusing its U.S.
• 23:55
SPEAKER_01: manufacturing footprint on hybrid and gasoline vehicles to reduce losses from an EV market that never developed the way it envisioned.
• 24:04
SPEAKER_01: Ford Motor Credit faces a wage-in-hour lawsuit.
• 24:07
  SPEAKER_01: What?
• 24:08
SPEAKER_01: A wage-in-hour lawsuit on behalf of customer service representatives who claim they weren't compensated for mandatory off-the-clock work.
• 24:17
SPEAKER_01: The suit, which is seeking class action status, alleges violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and breach of contract by the captive lender.
• 24:26
SPEAKER_01: According to the complaint, customer service representatives before their scheduled shifts were required to boot up their computers and log in.
• 24:33
SPEAKER_01: A process that typically could took fifteen to twenty-five minutes.
• 24:36
SPEAKER_01: If they didn't, they faced disciplinary action for tardiness according to the suit.
• 24:41
  SPEAKER_01: Well, guess what?
• 24:42
SPEAKER_01: They didn't get paid for that, and they're going, Well, wait a minute, I'm on the clock.
• 24:46
  SPEAKER_01: No, you are not.
• 24:47
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes, you are.
• 24:48
SPEAKER_06: Also, the credit department, so we're going to credit you your check.
• 24:51
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's what it is.
• 24:52
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 24:53
SPEAKER_01: And Ford Motor Company said that in 2028, drivers of its vehicles will be able to take their eyes off the road as part of a new version of its driver assistance system.
• 25:03
SPEAKER_01: It can go wrong there.
• 25:04
SPEAKER_01: It will also, in the coming months, roll out an artificial intelligence tool that customers can use in the Ford and Lincoln app before the automaker integrates it into the vehicles in 2027.
• 25:16
  SPEAKER_01: Hands free, eyes free.
• 25:19
  SPEAKER_01: I don't see a problem there, do you?
• 25:21
SPEAKER_06: That car reminds me to keep your eyes on the road, because if you don't it's got that sensor, whatever.
• 25:25
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but that's because it's old.
• 25:26
SPEAKER_06: Well, I might wear one of my sunglasses, too.
• 25:28
SPEAKER_06: It can't see your eyes.
• 25:29
SPEAKER_01: Mitsubishi Motors North America suing an Iowa dealership, Edwards Mitsubishi, for refusing to participate in the automaker's visual identity program, alleging it used unauthorized signage and failed to provide the exclusive showroom mandated by its dealer agreement.
• 25:45
  SPEAKER_01: Okay, you're getting sued.
• 25:47
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 25:47
SPEAKER_01: You don't put the sign up and you don't want to sell cars.
• 25:50
SPEAKER_01: Well we'll we'll take care of that.
• 25:52
SPEAKER_06: Yep, close around, comes around.
• 25:54
SPEAKER_01: Opening and closing the car door is one of the simplest tasks a human driver needs to do.
• 25:58
SPEAKER_01: But for a robotaxi, seemingly mundane problems, such as an exiting passenger leaving a door ajar, can lead to all sorts of chaos.
• 26:09
SPEAKER_01: Waymo is addressing the vulnerability by paying people in Los Angeles about$20 to$24 to help stranded cars.
• 26:17
SPEAKER_01: Many are tow truck drivers who learn when the company needs their assistance through an app called Honk.
• 26:25
SPEAKER_01: Caesar Marinko, who owns Milagro Towing in Englewood, told the Washington Post that he does about three jobs a week for Waymo through Honk.
• 26:35
SPEAKER_01: He posted a video on TikTok of himself helping a car that was unable to move until he freed the seat belt caught in a rear door.
• 26:45
  SPEAKER_01: Can you imagine?
• 26:46
SPEAKER_06: That's Waymo trouble than Waymo trouble.
• 26:49
SPEAKER_06: You know the Waymo's in Houston are on the uh rail car on the rail tracks.
• 26:53
  SPEAKER_06: Did you see that?
• 26:54
SPEAKER_06: I think it was on your station.
• 26:55
  SPEAKER_06: Really?
• 26:55
SPEAKER_06: The Waymo's are going on the the local rail.
• 26:58
SPEAKER_06: What what do they call that?
• 27:00
  SPEAKER_06: The rail line.
• 27:00
  SPEAKER_06: The rail line.
• 27:01
  SPEAKER_06: Metro?
• 27:02
  SPEAKER_06: Metro, yeah.
• 27:02
  SPEAKER_06: Metro.
• 27:03
  SPEAKER_06: Metro rail.
• 27:04
  SPEAKER_06: They're finding they're driving on that.
• 27:06
  SPEAKER_06: And parking and playing.
• 27:08
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
