- 0:01Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's time now for one-on-one with the pro. We have
- 0:06Speaker 1: Quentin in here from Advanced Pest Control. How you doing?
- 0:10Speaker 1: Doing good.
- 0:10Speaker 2: How are you doing?
- 0:11Speaker 1: I'm doing super. You brought a friend. I did.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I brought Fawn from the Tom Meeks Museum.
- 0:16Speaker 1: How you doing? Good morning.
- 0:17Speaker 4: I'm great. How are you?
- 0:18Speaker 1: How's history treating you?
- 0:19Speaker 4: It's wonderful.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Great. So what's going on with you, Quentin?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Well, I was brought on here. She's got a big
- 0:28Speaker 3: deal going on this weekend. I thought I'd let her
- 0:30Speaker 3: tell you about it.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Let's hear it.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Okay, let's talk. This weekend is our famous Western Heritage
- 0:36Speaker 4: Days weekend. And actually, this year, we're going to start early.
- 0:40Speaker 4: We're going to start on Friday. So everybody polish up
- 0:43Speaker 4: your boots, get your cowboy hats on. and come up
- 0:46Speaker 4: for a dance, a street dance Friday night. And they're
- 0:50Speaker 4: also going to show our films, the Tom Mix silent
- 0:55Speaker 4: films on the screen, or I'm not sure exactly how
- 0:58Speaker 4: they're going to set it up, but we're going to
- 0:59Speaker 4: have the dance going on. And since they're silent films,
- 1:01Speaker 4: we're going to be playing those. And then of course,
- 1:03Speaker 4: Saturday is all day dressed up, things in the park,
- 1:07Speaker 4: free events for the kids. There's going to be wagon rides.
- 1:10Speaker 4: There'll be dancing and singing too. They'll have the big
- 1:13Speaker 4: stage set up out there. The parade, I think, will
- 1:16Speaker 4: be at 5, which everybody likes to come in for
- 1:19Speaker 4: the parade, the longhorns and all the acts that will
- 1:21Speaker 4: be in the show down at the fairgrounds, which is
- 1:25Speaker 4: that evening, Saturday evening. So Friday and Saturday, make plans,
- 1:30Speaker 4: Western Heritage Day weekend.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And it doesn't hurt to go visit the museum those
- 1:35Speaker 1: two days either.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Well, we're going to be open, the hotel will be open,
- 1:38Speaker 4: and there's just no telling what's going to be happening.
- 1:42Speaker 1: That'd be great. And, you know, it's great to see
- 1:44Speaker 1: those longhorns. They don't really stampede. They kind of mosey.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You know, usually it's been kind of hot, but we
- 1:50Speaker 1: look like we're going to have great weather for this.
- 1:52Speaker 4: I think it's timed very well this year.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, we couldn't have done it better.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Gwen, did you talk to somebody upstairs about that? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:59Speaker 2: it's on me.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's on you. So this is a wonderful weekend.
- 2:05Speaker 1: You expanded it by a day. Yes. And added more activities. And,
- 2:08Speaker 1: of course, the Wild West show is always one of
- 2:10Speaker 1: the ones that takes... Boy, that draws a crowd. It
- 2:13Speaker 1: draws a crowd.
- 2:14Speaker 4: And then I'm going to put a plug in for
- 2:15Speaker 4: the museum since you brought that up. You know, we
- 2:17Speaker 4: always do a fundraiser. And so I have to give
- 2:20Speaker 4: a big shout out to Henry Rifle. We've been doing
- 2:23Speaker 4: this for... I've been around for 15 years, and we've
- 2:26Speaker 4: been doing this for about 12 now.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So we....
- 2:31Speaker 4: We're going to sell tickets, chances, for a Henry rifle.
- 2:35Speaker 4: This is going to be a different deal this year.
- 2:38Speaker 4: I'm going to limit it to 150 tickets to be sold,
- 2:43Speaker 4: $ 20 each. Let me tell you about the rifle, though.
- 2:46Speaker 4: It's a Henry Golden Boy. 357- 38 Special. The serial number
- 2:51Speaker 4: on it this year will be a one-of-a-kind Tom Mix 2026,
- 2:55Speaker 4: which is very unique.
- 2:59Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Wow, how'd you pull that off?
- 3:01Speaker 4: How did I pull that off? Let's give another big
- 3:04Speaker 4: shout out to Henry Rifle, made in the USA.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Very good. You got some pretty cool friends.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been doing, I've been in the museum for,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I don't even know.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I was going to ask you.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Eight or ten years, I'm not even sure.
- 3:20Speaker 4: But what he does for us, people might not realize,
- 3:23Speaker 4: you know, and you hear people say, oh, I need
- 3:26Speaker 4: bug control, or I need, you know, I've got a
- 3:28Speaker 4: mice problem, or I have this, or I have that.
- 3:30Speaker 4: We can't have that in the museum.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Period.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Not of any kind. We can't have moths. We can't
- 3:35Speaker 4: have bugs. Crickets really love, and I don't know where
- 3:38Speaker 4: they sneak in at, but they don't make it. And
- 3:41Speaker 4: it's because of this guy right here. I don't know
- 3:43Speaker 4: what happens to him, but I can sweep him up
- 3:46Speaker 4: and take him out. So Anyway, the museum cannot ever
- 3:51Speaker 4: have any kind of pest infestation.
- 3:53Speaker 1: That's hard with the doors open coming and going.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Coming and going. It's an older building. You know, I mean,
- 3:58Speaker 4: there's places they kind of like to sneak in. But
- 4:01Speaker 4: Quentin has been doing it for years. We wouldn't have
- 4:03Speaker 4: anybody else. He comes once a month. I highly recommend
- 4:07Speaker 4: if you have any type of problem or you need
- 4:10Speaker 4: pest control, he's the guy. I love him and Don.
- 4:12Speaker 4: They're awesome. They're good people.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I tell you what, if it's good enough for the
- 4:16Speaker 1: Tom Mix Museum, it's good enough for your house.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Yes. You know?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Tell us a little bit about what you do business,
- 4:22Speaker 1: just like the Tom Mix Museum.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, there's all kinds of different businesses. You have restaurants.
- 4:26Speaker 2: You have offices.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Then you have specialty places like this. And you just
- 4:30Speaker 3: got to treat every account individually because every account has
- 4:35Speaker 3: a different issue and different– We have to be real
- 4:40Speaker 3: careful about all the artifacts at the museum.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I was just fixing to say that. And you can't
- 4:45Speaker 4: just trust everybody. So a lot of trust put into him.
- 4:49Speaker 4: I don't unlock those cases for just anybody.
- 4:52Speaker 2: No, you don't.
- 4:53Speaker 4: But we have to do that occasionally, you know, to
- 4:55Speaker 4: have a special treatment. Yeah, because, again, I'll say you
- 5:00Speaker 4: cannot have any type of bug infestation. And he gets
- 5:03Speaker 4: to do that.
- 5:04Speaker 1: He's the man. You're not spraying prey. You know exactly
- 5:08Speaker 1: what you're doing and you really zero in on things,
- 5:11Speaker 1: don't you?
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yeah. And we do that. We do that right across
- 5:14Speaker 2: the street. We do the Dewey Hotel as well.
- 5:16Speaker 1: OK.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And it's if no one's been there, it's a pretty
- 5:19Speaker 2: cool place. It's pretty authentic.
- 5:21Speaker 3: It's I would say most of the stuff is pretty authentic.
- 5:24Speaker 3: pretty much according to the time of the hotel.
- 5:27Speaker 4: And you'd be surprised, locals that come in and say, oh,
- 5:30Speaker 4: I've never been in here. We will both be open Friday, Saturday.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Come on down. Please come see us.
- 5:37Speaker 1: You know, those were some of the two first places
- 5:39Speaker 1: I visited when we first moved here. I mean, I
- 5:42Speaker 1: thought it was as cool as all get out.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Well, we've only been open 58 years this year.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 4: And the hotel's only been around since... 1899.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Come see us.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I've only been here like eight years. You know, so
- 5:58Speaker 1: that was one of the first things we did. We
- 6:00Speaker 1: zeroed in on both of those historic things. Both of
- 6:03Speaker 1: them have great stories upon stories upon stories. You're not
- 6:07Speaker 1: looking at just two stories, one each. There's a ton
- 6:10Speaker 1: going on there. But one of the better stories is
- 6:14Speaker 1: it's bug free. Both of them. You ain't going to
- 6:17Speaker 1: be bugged. Yeah. So when it comes to residential properties,
- 6:22Speaker 1: you do the same thing. Every house is different. Every
- 6:26Speaker 1: customer is different.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Every customer has a different issue. And sometimes it's not
- 6:29Speaker 3: an issue. Sometimes they just want maintenance. I have one
- 6:31Speaker 3: to do on Wednesday and no real problem. They just
- 6:35Speaker 3: want to get something started because they moved here from
- 6:38Speaker 3: somewhere and they haven't had any one set up to
- 6:41Speaker 3: do it yet. And then this time of year, you
- 6:44Speaker 3: have mice coming in. You have wolf spiders and garden
- 6:46Speaker 3: spiders coming in. There's a lot of those yellow orb spiders.
- 6:50Speaker 3: I like them. Some people call them banana spiders. I
- 6:53Speaker 3: ask people, can we not kill it? Because it's never
- 6:55Speaker 3: going to hurt anything. They're just the big yellow spiders
- 6:58Speaker 3: up on the webs, a lot of times in front
- 7:00Speaker 3: of a window. And you can go throw bugs in
- 7:02Speaker 3: there and watch them go to work on that bug.
- 7:04Speaker 2: It's really a cool thing.
- 7:05Speaker 1: They're kind of doing some work for you, really.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're not going to hurt. I mean, you'll
- 7:09Speaker 2: see them about this time of year, and then they
- 7:11Speaker 2: go away.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Are those the riding spiders that make the real pretty ziggy-zags?
- 7:15Speaker 2: Well, I think Charlotte's Web was a wood weaver, yeah.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Yeah, wow.
- 7:21Speaker 2: But these are bigger. They're the big yellow and black ones.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 7:26Speaker 3: So, I mean, every house is different every year. situation
- 7:30Speaker 3: is different. You just got to take it one step
- 7:32Speaker 3: at a time. I always go do an inspection and
- 7:33Speaker 3: then you figure out a plan after that.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Sure. I mean, that's the best way to do it.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Always the best way to do it. And getting back
- 7:41Speaker 1: to the big weekend here, there are folks going to
- 7:44Speaker 1: be coming down from Kansas folks coming in from Missouri, Arkansas.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And it's one of those times where, you know, Dewey
- 7:51Speaker 1: is like the universe of Western heritage.
- 7:54Speaker 4: I will actually have, she's a cousin. Her name's Theresa Mix.
- 7:58Speaker 4: She's a professor at one of the colleges in Kansas.
- 8:01Speaker 4: She's written a little book. It's a kid's book. And
- 8:04Speaker 4: I haven't seen it yet. I've heard a lot about it.
- 8:06Speaker 4: So I've asked her to bring it along. And so
- 8:08Speaker 4: she'll do a little book signing. So like I said, everything,
- 8:11Speaker 4: you know, we kind of try to center around the
- 8:13Speaker 4: kids and, you know, let them have fun on Saturday.
- 8:16Speaker 4: And then also Gordon Hill, which is Tom Mix's actual grandson,
- 8:21Speaker 4: he will be in attendance. He will be coming this year.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Now, there's a happy guy. I've never seen that man frown.
- 8:28Speaker 1: He comes to town. He's got the big hat on.
- 8:30Speaker 1: You can't miss him. He's pretty tall.
- 8:31Speaker 4: He's tall.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Tall.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Very tall. Tall.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and he'll gladly have a conversation with you, too.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So it's always great when Gordon comes to town. I
- 8:42Speaker 1: don't think he misses much.
- 8:43Speaker 4: No, he doesn't. So he'll be around. He should be
- 8:48Speaker 4: here by Friday and Saturday for both days.
- 8:50Speaker 1: That would be something else.
- 8:52Speaker 4: And everybody should come see him. He loves to do
- 8:54Speaker 4: autographs and, you know, talk to you and tell you
- 8:56Speaker 4: stories and things.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And, folks, if you haven't been to Dewey, first of all,
- 9:01Speaker 1: you've got to see the museum. You've got to see
- 9:03Speaker 1: the hotel. But kitty corner from you, you've got the well.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Tony the horse actually.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Drank from the well. Yeah, they filled it in, of course,
- 9:14Speaker 4: but they leave it there. I mean, and I'm glad,
- 9:16Speaker 4: you know, I see people all the time. They take
- 9:18Speaker 4: their pictures by there.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Yeah. They do. They take pictures of that.
- 9:21Speaker 2: There's a jail back behind the hotel as well.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Right. Oh, really? I didn't know that that was that.
- 9:27Speaker 2: It was the first jail in this territory, right?
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I mean, it's not exactly the same, but it's representative.
- 9:34Speaker 4: No, they had to move it and work on it.
- 9:36Speaker 4: What's real is the bars on the door. It was
- 9:39Speaker 4: kind of crumbling, and they were not going to let
- 9:41Speaker 4: anybody see it anymore, and it's where the new water
- 9:44Speaker 4: tower was going to. So they reassembled it or remade
- 9:48Speaker 4: it and used the old iron doors and all the windows.
- 9:52Speaker 4: So it's a replica as best they could. But it's
- 9:55Speaker 4: over right beside the hotel.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yep. That's what that is. Yeah. The more you know.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Walk by it 20,000 times.
- 10:02Speaker 4: We should lock Tom up in there and see if
- 10:05Speaker 4: they'll bail him out. There you go.
- 10:06Speaker 2: That may be a fundraiser, right?
- 10:08Speaker 4: There you go.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Or not.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Or not.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Let's see if he eats the food. Oh, my gosh.
- 10:17Speaker 1: You're planting some dangerous ideas in people's heads now, kids.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Dangerous ideas. But this is great. That is all this weekend,
- 10:24Speaker 1: Friday and Saturday. And this has grown ever since I've
- 10:30Speaker 1: been here. I've watched it just kind of grow incrementally
- 10:34Speaker 1: each year. I always went there just because I've never
- 10:37Speaker 1: seen Longhorn cattle before. You know, being a guy from Illinois,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you don't see too many of them.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Sadly, COVID tried to knock everybody out of everything. So
- 10:45Speaker 4: I think we've made quite a remarkable comeback.
- 10:48Speaker 1: That was a good bounce back.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Got to put a shout out for Carlotta Gordon and
- 10:52Speaker 4: Richard Heinrich and all those folks. And then all the sponsors.
- 10:56Speaker 4: If you drive up and down the highway and you
- 10:57Speaker 4: see those signs this time of year, Hey, those people
- 11:00Speaker 4: have sponsored. They've put their hard-earned money into supporting us.
- 11:04Speaker 4: So everybody needs to, you know, help those guys out
- 11:08Speaker 4: because they're helping us.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Very good. And thank you for helping, Quentin. You know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: you brought Flan in to tell us all about it. Now,
- 11:15Speaker 1: how folks can get some help from you. How do
- 11:17Speaker 1: we get a hold of you?
- 11:18Speaker 2: So you can give me a call at 918-440-8797. Or
- 11:19Speaker 2: you can find me on the Internet. It's apestsolution.com or.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I've got a little Grim Reaper on the side of
- 11:30Speaker 3: my truck, and it's the roachreaper.com. So Roach Reapers, my
- 11:35Speaker 3: son came up with that a long time ago, so
- 11:37Speaker 3: I actually thought about getting in the Neowalla Parade with
- 11:40Speaker 3: the Grim Reaper outfit, hold his break in with some
- 11:44Speaker 3: roaches on little.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Remote cars chasing the... I haven't done it. I was
- 11:48Speaker 2: going to do it for Christmas Parade, but my wife
- 11:50Speaker 2: thought that was a bad idea to have the Grim
- 11:51Speaker 2: Reaper as Santa Claus. Neowalla Parade would be fun, though.
- 11:54Speaker 4: But it's... We'll let you in the dupe, right?
- 11:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we can do that. We can get a
- 11:59Speaker 1: little bit more flexibility.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah. We can put you on TV, too.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 1: We can do that on TV. Oh, man. Well, I
- 12:06Speaker 1: want to thank you for coming in. And I want
- 12:08Speaker 1: to thank you, Dawn, for coming in, too. It's been
- 12:10Speaker 1: a while. And, of course, it's going to be a
- 12:12Speaker 1: grand weekend. Dewey will be the center of the Western universe.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 12:16Speaker 1: The Western world universe, as it always is whenever we
- 12:19Speaker 1: have the Heritage Days. And it doesn't cost a dime
- 12:22Speaker 1: to walk downtown, walk around, have some fun.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Just take your time and enjoy the day.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It's going to be gorgeous, too. I'm looking at sunshine
- 12:32Speaker 1: and 86 with a light breeze. Now, how many times
- 12:35Speaker 1: are we going to get that?
- 12:37Speaker 2: It's not happening for.
- 12:38Speaker 1: A while, right?
- 12:40Speaker 4: Keeping the spirit of the West alive.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Indeedy. Hey, thanks for coming in.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Thanks, Quentin.
- 12:47Speaker 1: All right. Folks, you've been watching and listening to our
- 12:50Speaker 1: one-on-one with the pro with Advanced Peskin. Solution. Solution. Thanks
- 12:56Speaker 1: for listening to One-on-One with a Professional, a paid presentation
- 13:00Speaker 1: of 1400 K1.
