Transcript
- 0:14No, be afraid.
- 0:18Be very afraid.
- 0:27Kearns: Magd in 2026 and we're, we're here to talk about which movie Fellas
- 0:33Ryan: years later and the Bone Temple
- 0:37Kearns: Own Temple is out.
- 0:39How many, uh, months since the first, 28 years later.
- 0:42Ryan: year,
- 0:44Kearns: One year to the day kind of thing.
- 0:46Ryan: it also helped that it was filmed.
- 0:50Jon: Release date.
- 0:51Ryan: it was released in January.
- 0:53Jon: it's like six months.
- 0:55Kearns: Yeah.
- 0:55I
- 0:55Jon: Nah,
- 0:56Kearns: I
- 0:57Jon: like,
- 0:57Kearns: It was
- 0:57Jon: it's like a six month turnaround.
- 0:59Kearns: Yeah,
- 1:00Jon: Yeah.
- 1:00Ryan: a year based on,
- 1:01Kearns: it was warm outside.
- 1:03Ryan: oh my God.
- 1:03Six months.
- 1:04Well, I mean, it helps that they filmed it back to back, um, with 28
- 1:08Kearns: Yeah.
- 1:09Ryan: as well as the Bone Temple.
- 1:10Two different directors though.
- 1:12Um, this one, the first 20 years later, directed by Danny Boyle, this
- 1:16one directed by Nia DeCosta, who
- 1:19Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 1:19Ryan: uh, the Candyman, which we covered recently in a recent episode.
- 1:25Kearns: Get outta here.
- 1:26Jon: Which, which was why we did that.
- 1:28Ryan: it, and it worked out, um, because it Bone Temple kicked ass.
- 1:32But I do wanna ask opinion if you think that if someone watches this,
- 1:39they should watch 28 years later first and then this immediately right after.
- 1:43Because I feel like watching the first film 28 years later is great.
- 1:48It's a good film, but this is 10 times better at the Bone Temple and
- 1:52it definitely follows up nicely.
- 1:56Kearns: It absolutely follows up nicely.
- 1:57I do agree that it is a better movie.
- 1:59I think it was planned that way
- 2:01Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 2:01Kearns: Planned to be deeper.
- 2:02Um, the first movie kind of set as the, uh, reintroduction of the world and
- 2:09where it's gone since the first franchise ending and, and, uh, forgetting the second
- 2:14movie, things like, things like that.
- 2:17Ryan: percent.
- 2:17Forgetting a hundred percent.
- 2:20Kearns: John, what's your take on
- 2:22Jon: Yeah.
- 2:24Um, I really liked Bone Temple.
- 2:26Bone Temple has some moments that you don't expect from
- 2:31this type of type of movie.
- 2:33These like quiet, peaceful moments of Kelson and s Samson sitting and
- 2:40Kelson talking to Samson and just like bonding with an alpha infected.
- 2:47Kearns: That was interesting.
- 2:48And that part of the movie was like gorillas in the mist for me a little bit.
- 2:51I was, I was, I wasn't sold on where they were going at all at that point.
- 2:57and they, I, I started to really become a believer that this is a great
- 3:01movie, or it was going to be a good movie, at least about an hour into it.
- 3:05And then the end solidified it.
- 3:08I was like, all right, they nailed this thing.
- 3:09This was a good movie.
- 3:10And I have, I've been thinking about it since we saw it, which
- 3:13is always a good sign too.
- 3:15Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 3:16Ryan: It's been on my mind lately, especially how like.
- 3:19How they started off.
- 3:21They're continuing the story of course, but the ending too, and
- 3:25the ending stuck with me, and we're gonna cover the ending at the end.
- 3:29I don't wanna spoil it yet, but how they connected to the next
- 3:34film, which will be the third film of the 28 years later trilogy.
- 3:37I think it was done better than how they did in the, uh,
- 3:42first one, the 28 years later.
- 3:45which makes it definitely superior.
- 3:47I I wonder if, uh, when the third film comes out, if they'll b blend
- 3:51them together and do a release both 28 years later and the Bone temple.
- 3:58Something like Godfather.
- 3:59Jon: They might.
- 4:00Ryan: Godfather, godfather part two
- 4:02Jon: They might.
- 4:04Kearns: Maybe wouldn't be a bad
- 4:05Jon: I mean, I think they do that a little less now.
- 4:09Be with how available things are on streaming and physical
- 4:13media that you know, you can.
- 4:16Just do it at home.
- 4:17Kearns: Right.
- 4:18You can just stream, you can do nine hours of it a Saturday
- 4:22because it's a, a blizzard outside.
- 4:25It's time to hit the Godfather trilogy.
- 4:27You know the, I hadn't seen The Godfather Trilogy for years, and I, I love movies.
- 4:31People made fun of me, so I got like a stomach virus and I was, I
- 4:35was banished to the, the recliner for a, I think a two day stretch.
- 4:40I had to call outta work two days, and I finally watched The Godfather Trilogy.
- 4:44I remember why I hadn't watched it.
- 4:46I kept falling asleep.
- 4:48It's that lonely set Chema phone.
- 4:52The music puts you out, dude.
- 4:54It's like
- 4:56Jon: I never had that problem with the godfathers.
- 4:58Well, the first two,
- 5:00Kearns: the third one's not good.
- 5:01Ryan: No.
- 5:02Jon: no, no, the third one is a mess
- 5:05Kearns: But, uh,
- 5:06Jon: I have a, apparently there's a new cut of it that makes it
- 5:09somewhat better, but it's still got Sophia Coppola in it and.
- 5:14That was my big problem.
- 5:16And Andy Garcia, uh, Andy Garcia is, was not very good in that.
- 5:20Ryan: 'em were good, poor casting decisions and uh, mean new cut saves
- 5:26the story a little bit, but I mean,
- 5:31Jon: Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in.
- 5:35Kearns: yeah, the iconic lines.
- 5:39Jon: Yeah.
- 5:40You'd also reach like peak Pacino be just acting as like the over the top
- 5:47Al Pacino by that point too, I think,
- 5:49Kearns: he
- 5:50Jon: because you, you really reached a point with him where he's like
- 5:53just the elevated ver Scarface version of him all the time.
- 5:59Kearns: He is great in devil's advocate with that persona
- 6:01too, where he is just like
- 6:03Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 6:03Kearns: the whole movie.
- 6:04Ryan: Yeah,
- 6:05Jon: Yeah.
- 6:08Kearns: But that does explain the streaming.
- 6:09I didn't mean for us all to go on a Godfather Pacino tangent.
- 6:12Wouldn't it be cool if Pacino was in this movie if he was
- 6:16like one of the Jimmy Fingers?
- 6:18Ryan: He is
- 6:19Kearns: So let's actually, let's get into that actually.
- 6:21So begin this movie with a real different vibe and it's the Culty leaders esque
- 6:28sort of Jimmy that we've been waiting for and we, we made mention in the last
- 6:32episode he's very much so a clockwork orangey kind of vibe, but we found out
- 6:38that he's not quite based on that at all.
- 6:40It just sort of looked that way.
- 6:42He's based on something else.
- 6:44Jon: He's based on something far worse.
- 6:47Ryan: he
- 6:47Kearns: What is that gentlemen?
- 6:49Jon: Um, he's based on a man named Jimmy Seville.
- 6:55Um, most of the things Jimmy Seville is known for are things that will
- 6:58get us banned from most platforms.
- 7:02Um.
- 7:04What you get with from Jimmy Seville is up until after he
- 7:07dies, he's like a British hero.
- 7:10People know who he is, he's respected, he's beloved.
- 7:14Um, which really kind of works for 28 years later because
- 7:21this is the last time they've encountered Jimmy Seville in that world.
- 7:27He's still a hero.
- 7:28He's still a safe, welcoming person.
- 7:31And then you get the time jump that they get, but without the, the benefit
- 7:38of what comes after 2011 and Seville's real life death and the allegation, the
- 7:43abuse allegations that, I mean, kind of equate him to a British Epstein, but
- 7:53maybe worse because he was sort of like a TV legend, well-known kind of guy.
- 7:59Ryan: You just put a twist on it for me.
- 8:01'cause I didn't even think about that.
- 8:03Because of the time of the virus, they wouldn't have found out
- 8:06about all the horrible things.
- 8:07So that's why he's beloved.
- 8:10And I was trying to figure that out.
- 8:11John, you just cracked Pandora's box.
- 8:13Thank you on that one.
- 8:14Jon: He's safe.
- 8:16Ryan: In
- 8:16Jon: He,
- 8:16Ryan: universe,
- 8:19Jon: I mean, in, in England up until 2011, he's safe.
- 8:24Kearns: Wow,
- 8:25Jon: a little, I, I think, I think the first allegations
- 8:28came out like 12 or 13 maybe.
- 8:30But
- 8:31Ryan: you're, you're right.
- 8:32Jon: they're bad.
- 8:33Kearns: that's wild.
- 8:34Ryan: horrible.
- 8:35There's a documentary, I think on Netflix about the whole ordeal.
- 8:40Jon: There is, yes.
- 8:41Ryan: Very close to the royal family.
- 8:43Very close to a lot of people.
- 8:45Uh,
- 8:46Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:46Ryan: pretty scary, especially like in, he was introduced in fifties,
- 8:52so imagine from the start of the fifties to his death in Yeah.
- 8:58Pretty bad, bad stuff.
- 8:59Tough.
- 9:00Jon: I mean, it's, I, I don't know enough about him to fully make a
- 9:07comparison, but it sort of feels like this would be somebody like Mr. Rogers
- 9:12turning out that way to Americans.
- 9:15Kearns: Yeah, you know what?
- 9:16I think of Death of Death to smooch if like they'd done that
- 9:20movie with this twist on it.
- 9:22'cause it's pretty much the vibe.
- 9:24Like the children's TV show is a, an absolute train wreck.
- 9:27The host is, I mean.
- 9:29Ryan: do that to Rainbow Randolph.
- 9:31Kearns: Rainbow Randolph such a good movie.
- 9:35If you haven't seen Death Des Moochie, get out there and see
- 9:38it or in there, your living room
- 9:40Ryan: un,
- 9:40Kearns: and see
- 9:41Ryan: underrated film.
- 9:42It came out at the same time, one hour photo came out.
- 9:47Kearns: hmm
- 9:48Jon: Yeah, it did.
- 9:50Kearns: Um,
- 9:50Ryan: much
- 9:51Kearns: so the Jimmy character is made in the first movie.
- 9:57We actually see what happens to him in the first movie.
- 9:59That's his origin story.
- 10:00It's easy to forget
- 10:01Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 10:02Kearns: if that's the best choice on the filmmaker's part for this, because
- 10:05if we weren't so locked into this franchise, we probably would've forgotten
- 10:08about what makes him, and they show his father, who's a priest or a pastor
- 10:14Ryan: Yep.
- 10:14Kearns: at the beginning, and he sees the infected as the, sort of
- 10:18rapture bringing, I don't even know.
- 10:20Does he call them angels?
- 10:22Ryan: considers them like the rapture, like they're demons from
- 10:25hell, and he's just kind of allowing them to take him in and he's gonna
- 10:29lead them in his own s demented way.
- 10:31He, he goes crazy
- 10:33Kearns: And then he gets wrecked by them and turned into one of them,
- 10:36Ryan: Jimmy sees it, he's leading the pact towards him.
- 10:39So
- 10:40Kearns: right?
- 10:40Jimmy's view of things and we do get reintroduced to that
- 10:43concept and see why Jimmy is
- 10:45Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 10:46Kearns: and why he thinks the way he thinks, and this is
- 10:48his world from adolescence.
- 10:52Jon: Yeah.
- 10:52And he, I mean, the way they tie things in with that is like things that you wouldn't
- 10:58have necessarily caught in the first one, like the, the shadow of the cross on his
- 11:04father as he gets killed is inverted, and then that becomes Jimmy's worldview,
- 11:10this inverted cross satanism old nick
- 11:14Kearns: That's,
- 11:14Jon: idea.
- 11:15Kearns: that old nick, Nick, Mr. Nick, they call him in the movie.
- 11:20Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 11:20Kearns: was kind of, I'm, I'm almost glad they didn't do like
- 11:23old, like, scratch Mr. Scratch or anything like that too on the nose.
- 11:28Takes a while for us to get to that.
- 11:29And then we get to the other big persona in the movie.
- 11:32Speaking of Mr.
- 11:33Nick, Ray Fines,
- 11:37Ryan: I thought you were
- 11:37Jon: Yep.
- 11:38Ryan: S Samson, but No.
- 11:39Ray Fines.
- 11:40Kearns: we'll talk about him too.
- 11:41Yeah.
- 11:41Ray Fines is it, how do we pronounce, how do we pronounce it?
- 11:45Finn Phineas.
- 11:49But it, his first name is Forgivable, but defines is definitely the last.
- 11:56so his character is, I forget his name actually.
- 11:59The doctor there he goes,
- 12:01Jon: Ian
- 12:01Kearns: Ian Kelson uh, put, he's thrust into the limelight for
- 12:06this, even more so than Spike.
- 12:08he, goes through sort of his arc of, like we alluded to earlier, of sort
- 12:14of trying to figure out the infected.
- 12:16And he does that by forging this cool relationship with the Alpha Sampson.
- 12:21he does that by giving him morphine, is a great way to make friends in
- 12:26Jon: lots and.
- 12:27Kearns: Yeah.
- 12:27Tons of it.
- 12:28He even takes a little himself, just have a good time with his buddy.
- 12:33And he does, they, they sit there and they dope.
- 12:35They dope each other out or he dopes him up and then, uh, they
- 12:38hang out like sitting on a, you know, tree stump in a field.
- 12:41Ryan: That was a big
- 12:42Kearns: And Sam.
- 12:43Ryan: That was a big chance
- 12:44Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 12:44Kearns: change.
- 12:45Well, at that point too, he
- 12:46Jon: Yeah.
- 12:47Kearns: if he loses on it, and you get that when he does dope
- 12:49himself up and he passes out to
- 12:51Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 12:52Kearns: will do anything.
- 12:53When he wakes up
- 12:53Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 12:54Kearns: he's just gone, then he does the little
- 12:57Jon: Yeah.
- 12:58Ryan: I
- 12:59Jon: And I like they do a good job of expanding on what you knew about
- 13:03Kelson in the first movie that he is, he is built this temple to honor the
- 13:09dead, and the first time you see him is, that's really what he's doing.
- 13:13He's got another body, he's singing a Duran Duran song as he drags the body back
- 13:19to prepare it, to add it to the temple.
- 13:21Ryan: Duran heavy
- 13:22Jon: He.
- 13:23Ryan: the way.
- 13:25Jon: But then the second time you get a Duran Duran song, I think is
- 13:30more revelatory than anything else.
- 13:32I think that really shows you where Kelsons mindset is, because the, the
- 13:38second, the, I think it's the second, it might be the third Duran Duran
- 13:42song, but when they use Ordinary World, you know, the, that's, that's
- 13:47revelatory into the mind of Dr.
- 13:50Kelson too, because I, to me, that's what he's seeking in Samson
- 13:55initially is not so much the cure.
- 13:57He is thinking about that too, but he's also finding something normal in
- 14:03his life, like he's now got a friend that he can spend time with, even if
- 14:07that friend can't talk back to him yet.
- 14:13Kearns: Samson, him nurturing the words from Samson is a big, big part of the
- 14:17arc of the Samson character in this as
- 14:20Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 14:20Kearns: And he, his ultimate goal is to establish a way to cure Samson.
- 14:26and I don't know, actually we can vector into that at this point.
- 14:32if you want or we can swing back to Jimmy and the fingers.
- 14:35Um,
- 14:36Ryan: swing
- 14:36Kearns: before we do that.
- 14:37Ryan: back to Jimmy and his fingers, um, that cult-like status that Jimmy
- 14:41has and the relationship with Old Nick and, you know, the sinism that
- 14:46he portrays to his like followers.
- 14:49The Jimmys, um, when we open up Spike is getting initiated in
- 14:55pool scene, this abandoned pool, um, I guess YMCA we can call it.
- 15:00And of all the scenes that we're gonna get to, this is the most glorious, but
- 15:05it's also the coolest 'cause Now you wouldn't consider it the most glorious No.
- 15:09With the
- 15:10Kearns: No,
- 15:10Ryan: out out of
- 15:12Kearns: not.
- 15:12Ryan: lake.
- 15:13Kearns: Nope.
- 15:14Jon: Sure.
- 15:16Ryan: Okay.
- 15:17Jon: In the background and kind of obscured shirting is way worse.
- 15:23Ryan: Okay.
- 15:24Uh, a
- 15:24Kearns: The femoral artery severing portion of it though is visceral.
- 15:28And you get the Splash, splash, splash.
- 15:30Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 15:31Mm-hmm.
- 15:31Kearns: is put up against somebody who's far more capable than he is at fighting
- 15:35and hurting and, and taking somebody out.
- 15:38And Spike gets lucky
- 15:39Ryan: yes.
- 15:39Kearns: 'cause the guy's not really paying attention.
- 15:41And he gets some in the perfect little spot.
- 15:44And then what Ryan's talking about is the,
- 15:46Ryan: It's a
- 15:47Kearns: that
- 15:48Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 15:48Ryan: like dead
- 15:49Kearns: and we get to see the other fingers go, oh dude, you're done.
- 15:52And they're very like,
- 15:53Jon: Yeah.
- 15:53Kearns: calm and matter of fact about it, just like, oh, yep, you're, that's it for
- 15:58Jon: Yeah.
- 15:58Ryan: Yep.
- 15:58Kearns: Spikes the new Jimmy?
- 16:00Jon: Yeah.
- 16:01And it, it really establishes that for the, the fingers.
- 16:05Jimmy is the only one that they really care at all about.
- 16:09The rest of them are very replaceable.
- 16:12Kearns: Yep.
- 16:12Ryan: charity, as Jimmy would say it.
- 16:15Lord
- 16:15Kearns: Oh,
- 16:15Ryan: Crystal Charity.
- 16:18Kearns: And then Spike gets brought into this world where they, they
- 16:21chance upon or hunt other humans and they deliver acts of charity
- 16:26Ryan: Yep.
- 16:26Kearns: to them.
- 16:27Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 16:27Kearns: that is, that really means what?
- 16:30Ryan: Death, destruction, chaos,
- 16:32Kearns: Torture.
- 16:33Ryan: all.
- 16:34Kearns: And
- 16:35Jon: and, and death in whatever form old Nick tells Jimmy, who, by the
- 16:42way, you never see Jimmy do anything.
- 16:46Kearns: that's true.
- 16:46The
- 16:47Jon: He just guides.
- 16:48Kearns: stabs one particular character we'll
- 16:49Jon: Yep.
- 16:51Ryan: this
- 16:51Jon: Yep.
- 16:52He just guides.
- 16:53Ryan: at the Teletubbies
- 16:55Kearns: Wild stuff.
- 16:56Ryan: by the way.
- 16:57'cause he's getting this from the tele Teletubbies
- 17:00Kearns: that is true.
- 17:01Ryan: because that is the last show he watched.
- 17:03He, Jimmy is the son and these little fingers are the teletubbies.
- 17:07That's how I see it.
- 17:09Jon: Yeah.
- 17:09Kearns: He teaches some of them the dance as well, which is another thing.
- 17:12But
- 17:13Ryan: was a curve ball.
- 17:14I was.
- 17:15Kearns: Spike gets
- 17:15Jon: Jimmy is,
- 17:16Kearns: world.
- 17:18Jon: Jimmy is the son and the son in both spellings.
- 17:22You know, he is the son in the the Teletubbies and he's also the son at this
- 17:27point, claiming to be the son of Satan.
- 17:30Kearns: some good symbology in this movie.
- 17:33Ryan: is.
- 17:33Kearns: Symbology.
- 17:34Yeah.
- 17:36the, the symbolism runs deep with stuff that doesn't seem like it's matters,
- 17:40but that's one of the things that makes the ending kind of land pretty well.
- 17:43Ryan: Oh yeah.
- 17:44Kearns: you go, oh man, I thought this was all stupid, superfluous stuff.
- 17:47It all mattered.
- 17:48And I
- 17:49Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 17:50Kearns: Before we go any
- 17:51Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 17:51Kearns: kind of hit the midpoint, like where you are in the movie
- 17:53now where, where everything's sort of coming together.
- 17:57Before we go any further, John, you have any, do you have
- 17:59anything special for us today?
- 18:03Jon: I have a game for you guys, and it might be the most diabolical one yet.
- 18:07Ryan: am
- 18:07Kearns: You wanna play a game?
- 18:09Ryan: I'm ready.
- 18:11Kearns: I don't know
- 18:12Jon: All right, so
- 18:12Kearns: Ryan.
- 18:14Jon: it's, it's gonna be a variation on our normal keep and cut,
- 18:18which I think from here forward, I'm gonna call slash or Stash.
- 18:24Ryan: like
- 18:24Kearns: All
- 18:25Jon: You can, you can slash it to get rid of it or a stash it to keep it.
- 18:31And
- 18:32Ryan: Alright.
- 18:33Jon: so I'm gonna get,
- 18:34Kearns: Ooh,
- 18:35Jon: I'm changing the rules up a little bit.
- 18:36Ryan: is a good film.
- 18:38Jon: I'm ch hold up, hold up before you get too far.
- 18:41I'm changing the rules.
- 18:42Kearns: hayak at us right away, by the way, and, and
- 18:46Jon: You guys can, you guys can only keep three or Stash three slash five.
- 18:55And I'm gonna tell you right off the bat, these are all
- 18:58the middle movie in a trilogy.
- 19:02The movies you slash disappear from the trilogy forever.
- 19:06Ryan: And you
- 19:07Jon: The other two movie, the other two parts of the trilogy continue to exist.
- 19:12Kearns: I wonder if Godfather's gonna come back into this conversation.
- 19:16Um, all right.
- 19:17Hmm.
- 19:18Ryan: desperado kinda like exist in that because like El Maria,
- 19:24it's like the evil dead situation.
- 19:26Desperado is a soft
- 19:27Kearns: Once upon a time in Mexico, Hmm.
- 19:33gonna slash this one because I don't care if this franchise dies.
- 19:39I liked it very much, but I have a feeling there's more coming
- 19:41and if I have to cut five,
- 19:43Ryan: but he said, he said evil.
- 19:46He's gonna be really evil in this.
- 19:48Kearns: sure he is.
- 19:51I'm sure he is.
- 19:52Jon: but which direction am I going?
- 19:53Kearns: Yeah.
- 19:54Let's,
- 19:55Jon: Is this, is this the best of the trilogies or.
- 19:59Kearns: oh, it's dive really, if this is the best of the trilogies,
- 20:04Ryan: you know what gonna, I'm gonna slash it.
- 20:08our new terminology.
- 20:10I'll, I love desperado.
- 20:11I love the guitar scene.
- 20:13It has the machine gun, Danny REOs in it.
- 20:16isn't Steve Buscemi in it?
- 20:18He's the, he's like works with him or something, right?
- 20:22Is it Steve Buscemi?
- 20:24Jon: think so.
- 20:25I forget the, the third one has a ton of people in it,
- 20:30Ryan: yeah,
- 20:30Kearns: Yeah.
- 20:30The third
- 20:31Jon: so it could be three.
- 20:32Ryan: But, but I'll have to, I'll have to slash it.
- 20:35It's recommended though, especially on Snowmageddon if
- 20:38you're home for the next two days.
- 20:39Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 20:40Oh, I really like Desperado.
- 20:42Kearns: Yeah.
- 20:43It's a
- 20:43Jon: I know where this is going.
- 20:45Ryan: a nice
- 20:45Kearns: You do?
- 20:46Jon: All right.
- 20:46Next.
- 20:47Kearns: Okay.
- 20:50Ryan: oh,
- 20:52Jon: Dark Knight Boys.
- 20:53Ryan: we're gonna stash that.
- 20:54Definitely.
- 20:56We're def
- 20:56Kearns: We have stash that I.
- 20:59Ryan: you're talking to a Batman fan right now.
- 21:01It's like,
- 21:02Kearns: It's just great movie.
- 21:03It's arguably the best Batman movie ever made.
- 21:07Ryan: I will agree with that.
- 21:07Yes.
- 21:08Just, and it's the joker and uh,
- 21:12Kearns: Look at his face.
- 21:13Look at John.
- 21:14What are you doing over there, John?
- 21:16Jon: Shameless confession.
- 21:18I hate this movie.
- 21:20Ryan: why that I, I'm, I won't get why.
- 21:22Jon: Num number, number one.
- 21:25I think it's overhyped because of
- 21:27Kearns: death
- 21:28Jon: a death.
- 21:29Ryan: That's one.
- 21:29I agree.
- 21:30Jon: I, I think, I think, I think it gets elevated because it's Heath ledger's
- 21:34last movie and it, I mean, he's good.
- 21:36It's a good movie.
- 21:38But people talk about like this, like it's a top 10 or 15 all time.
- 21:44Too far.
- 21:44Ryan: say top
- 21:45Jon: Too far,
- 21:46Ryan: like fifth
- 21:47Kearns: Now I love
- 21:48Jon: too far.
- 21:48Kearns: it.
- 21:50I love what he did with it.
- 21:51I feel like this performance with a plot like the third movie would've
- 21:54been even more epic because the plot of the second movie, I don't love, I
- 21:58don't love the ferry scene and I hate Maggie Gyllenhaal in it and stuff,
- 22:03but he, I just a hyper focus on him.
- 22:06Ledger's joker to me, is a fantastic portrayal and I've never seen
- 22:10anything like it and I like it, so I'm gonna agree to disagree for once.
- 22:16I usually never, ever disagree with John.
- 22:18Ryan: can agree with John that there's an over hype because
- 22:22once he did, he passed away.
- 22:24It was all that big focus.
- 22:26It is a really good though superhero film.
- 22:28It's a great drama action thriller.
- 22:31I mean like Seed Ledger, he kills it as the joker, but it's also like,
- 22:37like this is where I, I get a question about it is what about Jack Nicholson?
- 22:41I'm a big Jack Nicholson fan when it comes to the live action version.
- 22:44I love Jack, but it's what version of the Joker you're looking at.
- 22:48Would Jack Nicholson being more of the crime boss and Heath Ledger being
- 22:51that mix of the Batman from 1940 issue one, where he was like this old crime
- 22:58boss mixed with a little bit of The Killing Joke, which is the comedian
- 23:03version, which blends pretty well.
- 23:08I,
- 23:09Jon: Yeah.
- 23:11Yeah.
- 23:11I, I mean, I feel like any of the, any of the Batman properties where the Joker pops
- 23:17up, become immediately way elevated beyond what they necessarily deserve to be.
- 23:25I mean, even the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie is fine, but it's not the hype.
- 23:34Ryan: okay.
- 23:36Oh, oh, let's, we're gonna have to debate about the Joker one day.
- 23:40That one, that film?
- 23:42Kearns: Not today.
- 23:42What's the next movie?
- 23:44Jon: Now.
- 23:45Next Blade two.
- 23:48Kearns: Cut
- 23:48Ryan: I am gonna,
- 23:48Kearns: sta slash That sucker.
- 23:51Ryan: on.
- 23:51Did you say Stash?
- 23:53Kearns: I meant slash action Bloody weld on
- 23:57Ryan: this one too.
- 23:59I like Blade too, but I, I don't know what you're, you're, you're
- 24:02Jon: Yeah,
- 24:03Ryan: it.
- 24:03You put the Dark Knight on here.
- 24:04Like what?
- 24:05What are you doing here?
- 24:07Kearns: and then
- 24:08Jon: you, you, you guys, you guys Slash Del Toro.
- 24:13Kearns: I will slash this del Toro.
- 24:14Yes.
- 24:16just telling my, my barber how much I'm obsessed with Del Toro
- 24:22today Actually.
- 24:25Ryan: It's the beard.
- 24:26Jon: All right.
- 24:26Next
- 24:30Beverly Hills Cop two.
- 24:32Kearns: You're, you're a bastard.
- 24:33Is what you are,
- 24:34Ryan: Hmm?
- 24:35Kearns: this, this is the alphabet one, right?
- 24:37Ryan: is with Bridget Nielsen,
- 24:39Jon: Yep.
- 24:39Ryan: murders.
- 24:42I'm gonna slash.
- 24:43I'm gonna slash this one.
- 24:45Jon: Ooh.
- 24:46Ryan: this one too.
- 24:47I, I do like this sequel.
- 24:52Kearns: I'm keeping it.
- 24:53I'm stashing it.
- 24:55Jon: Ooh.
- 24:55Kearns: I'm doing it.
- 24:56Oh, John knows I'm gonna regret that decision, but I'm doing it anyway.
- 24:59I'm doing it anyway.
- 25:01Ryan: up to three to one.
- 25:02Okay.
- 25:02So I got
- 25:04Jon: Yep.
- 25:04Kearns: movie.
- 25:05This
- 25:05Jon: You're,
- 25:05Kearns: a run on TBS kind of movie.
- 25:08It
- 25:08Jon: yep.
- 25:09Kearns: and I watched it.
- 25:11Jon: Yep.
- 25:12I, I love the first two Beverly Hills cops.
- 25:15Kearns: they're great.
- 25:16Ryan: one's rough.
- 25:16The fourth one's okay.
- 25:19Jon: Yeah.
- 25:20I don't count the fourth one though.
- 25:21'cause four is because it's not, you don't have the same feelings for it.
- 25:27Like it's, it's sort of trying to extend a franchise by introducing other
- 25:34potentially interesting characters.
- 25:37Kearns: Like
- 25:37Jon: it's fine.
- 25:38It's a fine, yeah, it's a fine little piece of nostalgia, but
- 25:41it's not, it's not one and two.
- 25:44Ryan: I, I agree.
- 25:45I agree on that.
- 25:47Jon: All right.
- 25:49Next.
- 25:51Evil Dead two.
- 25:52Ryan: Stash.
- 25:54Stash,
- 25:59Kearns: Ash, I'm gonna have to cut every other movie.
- 26:00I can't cut Evil Dead two.
- 26:03could actually, hold on.
- 26:04'cause it's really like, kind of like, just like evil dead one
- 26:08Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 26:09Kearns: bit of a launchpad into Army of darkness.
- 26:11See, if you had to, if you were asking me to cut Army of Darkness,
- 26:14which is arguably not a horror movie, I would, I would have more trouble.
- 26:18'cause I just love that movie so much.
- 26:20Ryan: evil Dead's
- 26:21Kearns: John.
- 26:21Ryan: too is hilarious though.
- 26:23It's got some funny moments.
- 26:25The hand.
- 26:26Kearns: I'm gonna, I lied.
- 26:27I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna slash it.
- 26:31Jon: Alright.
- 26:32Kearns: Um, and I
- 26:33Jon: That.
- 26:33Kearns: that.
- 26:33I would rather.
- 26:35rather keep Beverly Hills Cop two than Evil Dead two.
- 26:39I I I stand by that,
- 26:42Ryan: You're waving your flag on that mountaintop right now.
- 26:44That snowy mountaintop.
- 26:47Jon: You might, you might feel pretty good about your decision and you may regret it.
- 26:51Let's see.
- 26:52Next.
- 26:54There it is.
- 26:55Kearns: I knew he was coming
- 26:56Ryan: Hold on.
- 26:56So I got one more.
- 26:58Keep
- 27:00Jon: You have one keep.
- 27:02You both only have one.
- 27:03Keep.
- 27:03Uh, one SL stash.
- 27:05Ryan: movies?
- 27:06Jon: One stash.
- 27:08Ryan: Three
- 27:09Jon: Yep.
- 27:09Kearns: more
- 27:10Jon: You each have one.
- 27:11Kearns: this.
- 27:12Jon: You including this.
- 27:13It's three.
- 27:13You each have one more stash and two slashes.
- 27:17Ryan: Dead too.
- 27:18You know what?
- 27:19I'll keep Godfather Partio.
- 27:21I'm okay with those three.
- 27:22am okay with those three.
- 27:24Oh, wait,
- 27:25Kearns: I am gonna,
- 27:25Ryan: on, hold on,
- 27:27Kearns: it insists upon itself.
- 27:29Ryan: hold on, hold on, on.
- 27:32You know what?
- 27:33Jon: Yeah.
- 27:34Ryan: No.
- 27:34You know what?
- 27:36Cut it.
- 27:37You know what, because I, I know where this is going.
- 27:39I know where this is going and if it's going away, I'm thinking this.
- 27:42There is another sequel.
- 27:43I'd rather keep, I'm sorry, godfather.
- 27:45Part two.
- 27:47Keep throw away the gun, keep the cannolis.
- 27:50That's all I'm gonna say.
- 27:52Cut it.
- 27:55Jon: All right,
- 27:57turns
- 27:58Kearns: I'm still slashing it.
- 27:59Yeah,
- 28:02I liked it.
- 28:04Ryan: I
- 28:04Kearns: It's a
- 28:05Jon: next.
- 28:05Kearns: Blah, blah, blah
- 28:08Jon: Ready?
- 28:09Ryan: Yeah,
- 28:09Kearns: ish.
- 28:10Jon: Here we go.
- 28:12Ryan: so I'll cut this.
- 28:14I'll cut this too.
- 28:17Kearns: Rohan will never ride to save you.
- 28:20I.
- 28:20Ryan: he, if number one's, the way I'm thinking it is, I'll be happy with my,
- 28:25Kearns: This is a trap for me, is what this is.
- 28:28He laid this trap, it's like in Tremors when it dug the hole ahead of them.
- 28:32is the hole
- 28:34Ryan: But.
- 28:35Kearns: I'm gonna
- 28:35Jon: Is it.
- 28:36Ryan: E.
- 28:36Kearns: I'm gonna fall in it.
- 28:37I'm gonna keep this, I'm gonna keep this Lord of the Rings.
- 28:40The two towers is stashed for Kerns.
- 28:42I'm out of Staes.
- 28:46Jon: All right.
- 28:47That means you're slashing the next one and Ryan is keeping the next one.
- 28:52And you, you just predicted it correctly.
- 28:55It is.
- 28:56Empire strikes back.
- 28:58Kearns: I'm okay with, with slashing the best Star Wars movie.
- 29:02Ryan: when I was gonna keep the Godfather, I was like, this man
- 29:05is gonna put Empire as number one, and Empire is my favorite Star Wars
- 29:09Jon: Absolutely,
- 29:09Ryan: time.
- 29:10Kearns: It's the, it's the best one.
- 29:12It just is.
- 29:12Jon: because,
- 29:13Ryan: the STH wind, the bad
- 29:15Jon: and
- 29:15Ryan: It just, uh,
- 29:18Jon: you know why I have to stash this one is because of how important
- 29:21it is to the whole trilogy.
- 29:23You can watch a new Hope and Return to the Jedi, but you're gonna
- 29:28miss a whole bunch from Empire.
- 29:31Ryan: Plus you miss out on the baddest line in like.
- 29:34The
- 29:34Jon: Wait,
- 29:35Ryan: in the whole movie?
- 29:36Kearns: Are there
- 29:36Jon: Who?
- 29:37Kearns: Falcons in this image?
- 29:40Am I on
- 29:41Jon: Are there?
- 29:42Kearns: Is that
- 29:43Ryan: No, there's,
- 29:43Kearns: three?
- 29:44Oh, there's
- 29:45Jon: No.
- 29:45Ryan: yeah.
- 29:46Kearns: flying away or something.
- 29:47Jon: Yeah, those are, those are the, um, ships they use on, um, haw.
- 29:52Kearns: got it.
- 29:55Jon: I'm not nerdy enough to know what they're called.
- 29:57Kearns: having Beverly Hills Cop two instead of this.
- 30:01No, I, I mean, so we're talking about the original trilogy, but it is nine
- 30:05movies, so I feel like this is also a lie.
- 30:08Ryan: Um, the original.
- 30:09Kearns: movie five.
- 30:10Jon: they're three separate trilogies.
- 30:12Kearns: That's, that's, that's movie five and a nine movie, a
- 30:14nine movie series that took, what, four decades to come out fully.
- 30:19So, I don't know.
- 30:20I don't know.
- 30:20I'm gonna, you're gonna hear from my lawyer
- 30:22Ryan: I,
- 30:22Kearns: on this one.
- 30:23Ryan: this one.
- 30:23All right.
- 30:24You, you chose Beverly Hills Cop two Over Empire Strikes Back.
- 30:27I'll remember that.
- 30:30Kearns: What did you choose?
- 30:31Ryan: Two.
- 30:31Dark Knight and Empire Strikes Back.
- 30:33I, I.
- 30:34Kearns: Yeah, it's fair.
- 30:35Ryan: part two for a reason.
- 30:37Kearns: You did bury, you did bury it.
- 30:38Ryan: of it.
- 30:39It's a great film though.
- 30:40Watch that too.
- 30:42Kearns: I screwed myself over with Beverly Hills Cop, but I
- 30:44mean, I just like that movie.
- 30:45It's nice.
- 30:47All right.
- 30:47Ryan: King.
- 30:48That Stephen King list.
- 30:49Really?
- 30:50That's the worst list.
- 30:50Don't worry.
- 30:51I still hold that title.
- 30:56Kearns: I don't even remember it to be honest with you, but Back to Bone Temple.
- 31:00Um,
- 31:00Jon: to Bone Temple.
- 31:02Kearns: with two reviews before we roll into the second half of the movie?
- 31:06Jon: I actually didn't prep any reviews for this one 'cause I
- 31:08don't want to, I don't wanna read other people's opinions on this yet
- 31:11'cause I'm still working on my own.
- 31:13Kearns: enough,
- 31:13Ryan: means we can do something original and do a Blue Star review today.
- 31:19Our own Blue Star review.
- 31:22Kearns: For
- 31:22Jon: Our own Blue Star, huh?
- 31:24Kearns: we would, we would consider this a Blue Star movie.
- 31:27Ryan: I mean, I'll, I'll throw it out there, but I mean, we gotta talk about
- 31:32it more before we get to that part.
- 31:33Kearns: Blue Star movie's.
- 31:34Like among your, your greatest of all time,
- 31:37Ryan: This,
- 31:37Kearns: kind of, kind of dis distinction.
- 31:40Ryan: for this one.
- 31:42Kearns: I mean, that's not what a Blue Star is.
- 31:43Ryan: All right.
- 31:43That's
- 31:45Kearns: We, what we talked about for Blue Star was that it is, it is
- 31:48to separate what a five star review has become, which is like everything
- 31:52gets five stars because people farm
- 31:54Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 31:54Kearns: But if you do a blue Star,
- 31:56Ryan: All right.
- 31:57Bronze.
- 31:58Kearns: was the idea
- 31:59Ryan: Bronze.
- 32:01Kearns: for a Bronze star.
- 32:02Ryan: Throw a bronze
- 32:02Jon: Bronze Star.
- 32:04Kearns: Uh, we can do the actual five star rating at the end.
- 32:06'cause this is not a blue star I don't think from any of us.
- 32:09But it's a great movie
- 32:11Jon: Yeah.
- 32:15So we get to, we get to the point where the Jimmys encounter Dr. Kelson,
- 32:22Kearns: and that is
- 32:23Jon: right?
- 32:23Or do we want, do you wanna spend a little time on the farmhouse and
- 32:27Kearns: We
- 32:27Jon: charity at the,
- 32:28Kearns: jump
- 32:28Jon: the farmhouse?
- 32:31Ryan: The gory scene.
- 32:32Jon: Uh, shirting.
- 32:35Shirting is definitely not pleasant.
- 32:38Kearns: when, we don't have to get too into describing what that is,
- 32:41but to deglove someone is, is known.
- 32:44And if you don't know what that is, look it up.
- 32:45And now shirting is that,
- 32:49Jon: But don't do an image search.
- 32:50Kearns: I mean, live your life, do what you gotta
- 32:52Jon: Just, just go.
- 32:55Okay.
- 32:55I mean, do what you gotta do.
- 32:57But no, you're probably gonna regret image search.
- 33:01Ryan: you just see it in the film.
- 33:03it's not as bad as expected, but the buildup to it and how that scene,
- 33:09Jon: Yes.
- 33:10Ryan: at the breakfast table, it's so, it's uncomfortable.
- 33:14Very uncomfortable.
- 33:16Jon: How, how extended it is, like the, it's not a lot of screen time,
- 33:22but when they start this process with these four people, it's daylight.
- 33:28And by the time they're onto the last guy, it's the middle of the night.
- 33:33Like they've spent the whole day on this with the one pregnant lady
- 33:39hiding in the, in the barn watching.
- 33:43Kearns: Yeah, she's in the lofts and that's also pretty brutal
- 33:46to watch your loved ones endure.
- 33:47Something like that
- 33:48Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 33:49Mm-hmm.
- 33:50Kearns: you
- 33:50Jon: And then
- 33:50Kearns: dark, the movie, in a darker direction than you might've
- 33:53Jon: mm-hmm.
- 33:54Mm-hmm.
- 33:56And spike outside vomiting and crying and bonding with one of the female Jimmys.
- 34:02Kearns: Which a, it's never really flushed out why she's
- 34:06like taking him under her wing.
- 34:09'cause she's
- 34:10Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:10Kearns: indoctrinated.
- 34:11She's the one who sees the doctor Ian and sees, uh, and
- 34:15assumes he's Mr. Nick brings that
- 34:18Jon: Yes,
- 34:19Kearns: Jimmy.
- 34:19Ryan: Oh
- 34:20Jon: but she's also the one who is the most skeptical of Jimmy.
- 34:25Kearns: Yes.
- 34:26Ryan: And that skepticism helps her kind of to see the true, I
- 34:30guess, whatever his lies are.
- 34:32'cause she believes
- 34:34Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:34Ryan: old, you know, old nick thing and all that, but she doesn't believe him.
- 34:39And I feel like she takes spike under her wing she feels sorry.
- 34:43She realizes like this isn't his life, he's, he's
- 34:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:47Ryan: He's screwed.
- 34:49So what's the next thing?
- 34:50Just help him out as much as she can
- 34:55in my
- 34:55Kearns: Uh, when we
- 34:58Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:59Kearns: in the plot, we're, we're left with like, whether will Spike become like
- 35:03them, which we always assumed he wouldn't.
- 35:04I don't think any of us thought he was gonna become evil or anything.
- 35:07Um, where are they going?
- 35:09Is Jimmy gonna get his come up in what's happening with Samson and Ray fines
- 35:13and this is where that convergence incident happens where John says, Jimmy
- 35:17Stumbles or Jimmy actually goes to speak with the doctor and he says he
- 35:22Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 35:22Kearns: and then he tells him, Hey, I need you to do something for me.
- 35:26I.
- 35:28Jon: I need you to be Satan and my father for performatively for my fingers.
- 35:35So they don't, whatever he think he's worried that they're gonna do.
- 35:41I think it's just, it's almo, like it's almost just straight performative.
- 35:45'cause you could go down there and and say, oh, nope, that's not him.
- 35:50And just take out Dr.
- 35:51Kelson.
- 35:52Jimmy, this is a big mistake by Jimmy.
- 35:54Really?
- 35:55Kearns: He wants, he wants exactly what he gets
- 35:59Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 35:59Kearns: Ian too, which is an amazing experience for them.
- 36:04But at the same time he does, it goes left on him real quick.
- 36:09And that happens because well actually put a pin in that till after you guys describe
- 36:15what the best part of the movie is really.
- 36:18Ryan: quick.
- 36:18Jimmy's kind of cornered at that point.
- 36:20'cause I feel like at the barn and stuff, there's like a little scurry,
- 36:25there's like a little incident between one of the survivors.
- 36:28There's
- 36:29Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:30Ryan: um,
- 36:31Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:31Ryan: and there's a fight and a couple of 'em die.
- 36:33So a lot of them don't believe that Jimmy is this power that he
- 36:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:38Ryan: like
- 36:38Jon: Yeah.
- 36:39Ryan: to the table.
- 36:40It's not who they see him as anymore.
- 36:42So he, he's kind of trapped in cornered to do this.
- 36:45He's kind of forced to do this in his own way.
- 36:47Jon: I mean, sort of, but he sort of traps himself because after, after
- 36:54things in the barn, go a little bit south and a couple Jimmys die, um,
- 37:00spike lets the pregnant lady escape.
- 37:04I mean, literally lets, her escape, begs her to take him with him and gets whacked.
- 37:10Pretty good for it.
- 37:11But, so Jimmy is going to punish spike in some way, shape, or form
- 37:18for that escape, and it's the Jimmy that he has bonded with that sort of
- 37:23steps up and says, wait, old Nick, we can go see him and let him decide.
- 37:29Kearns: and distracts from that whole situation.
- 37:31'cause Spike.
- 37:32Yeah, spike is about
- 37:33Jon: Yeah.
- 37:34Kearns: at
- 37:34Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 37:34Kearns: proving to be completely useless to Jimmy.
- 37:38Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 37:40Kearns: So at that
- 37:41Jon: Very much.
- 37:42Kearns: the movie, we sort of get Jimmy stuck in this sort of catch 22 situation.
- 37:47He goes, speaks with, with the doctor.
- 37:49The doctor agrees because he sees the writing on the wall.
- 37:53But at that point he also knows that Samson is out there.
- 37:57Um, and he has administered a cure to him already.
- 38:01And this is my least favorite part of the movie.
- 38:03We go through this whole arc with s Samson and how he's becoming sort of domesticated
- 38:08and whatnot by morphine, then Ian's like, ah, you know what, now's the time.
- 38:13I've gotta give him the, the antidote.
- 38:15And he opens up his journal, so has been working on it for a while, but
- 38:18then he's just like, oh, we'll try this.
- 38:19He puts it together and he's cured this thing that nobody's
- 38:23found the cure for in 28 years.
- 38:28Jon: Scared or stabilized
- 38:31Kearns: Interesting.
- 38:32Well, I think they're one and the same.
- 38:34'cause Samson doesn't
- 38:34Jon: because he,
- 38:36Kearns: Shrink down or anything.
- 38:38Jon: no, and he does, he doesn't necessarily become less violent.
- 38:42Kearns: He has the capability of it.
- 38:44Ryan: it.
- 38:45Jon: yes, he, he, he's more introspective after the cure.
- 38:49He seems more aware and more human again.
- 38:53Ryan: Like in the, oh, if we're getting to it.
- 38:56When he's exploring after, you know, he takes his shrooms pills, whatever
- 39:00we're gonna call it, uh, the concoction.
- 39:02He's wandering, wandering through the forest and he goes into this train
- 39:05car, uh, the train car that's from the first film and it makes a reappearance.
- 39:10And he sits down, he's got a memory he's encounters, he's
- 39:14infected and he's like, oh, I,
- 39:16Kearns: He remembers when he was turned kind of,
- 39:18Ryan: And like he fights them, it's not like it's a different fight when
- 39:25he's infected from the last film this film where it's got more of a control.
- 39:30'cause he knows what he's doing, but the movement is more human and more,
- 39:35I have strength and I have this power while in the last one it's more chaos.
- 39:42Where he is, just ripping people left and right going for it.
- 39:45While this is a little more controlled chaos 'cause he's throwing 'em all over.
- 39:50Throwing 'em outta windows.
- 39:51It's like a royal rumble.
- 39:54Kearns: Yeah, it's cool and you're getting that action packed, uh, dismembering
- 39:57of people you don't care about.
- 39:59It's like pretty guilt free.
- 40:01It's good stuff.
- 40:02Ryan: covered this time, no dong situation.
- 40:06Kearns: Yeah, we
- 40:07Jon: At that point.
- 40:08Kearns: right?
- 40:09Jon: that point, I mean, I mean you get, you get quite a, you still
- 40:12get quite a bit of do Samson Dong and a bit of Ray Fines Dong too.
- 40:18Kearns: Yeah,
- 40:19Jon: Yeah.
- 40:19Kearns: stage
- 40:20Jon: Ralph Finn.
- 40:21Kearns: of thing.
- 40:24Phineas Finger.
- 40:26But, uh, yeah, so to that, to that point in the movie, we, we
- 40:31shoot over and now we can talk about the best scene in the movie.
- 40:36Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 40:37Kearns: Right.
- 40:37Jon: Night Falls, Jimmy's, Jimmy's bringing his fingers and Kelson has
- 40:42prepared, prepared a performance to sell 'em and it is incredible.
- 40:47I.
- 40:47So Kelsons all set up.
- 40:49He's got fire ringing the bone temple.
- 40:52He's brought his record player up.
- 40:55You don't see him for a minute, but you hear that iconic intro of number of the
- 41:00beast that Vincent Price sound alike.
- 41:02Let him who at understanding wrecked the number of the beast.
- 41:07And there is, Ray finds clearly having studied Bruce Dickinson live
- 41:13performances because he is, he is doing Bruce Dickinson cosplay Lar,
- 41:19at least in Performatively, you know, he's, and he's got the, the black eye
- 41:24paint and you know, a leather and like he's, he is the devil in that moment.
- 41:32Ryan: A
- 41:33Jon: He's what?
- 41:34He's what?
- 41:35He's what?
- 41:35Somebody who, I mean most of the Jimmys probably were born during
- 41:42these 28 years, but he's exactly what somebody inexperienced
- 41:50would believe the devil to be.
- 41:52Kearns: Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 41:54The makeup is on point.
- 41:55Uh, I like what he did with the lanterns too, around the temples, particularly the
- 41:59Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 42:00Kearns: was pretty sick as well.
- 42:01I like those little aesthetic things.
- 42:03That scene was awesome and it was so, it was very fan servicey
- 42:07for sure, but it, it lands
- 42:09Jon: Mm.
- 42:09Kearns: hard.
- 42:10It's perfect.
- 42:11Ryan: singing the song in the
- 42:12Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 42:12Ryan: was like so happy that they did that.
- 42:14And I agree with Solomon, like if you see Ironman in life,
- 42:18Bruce Dickinson is awesome.
- 42:20He's a madman.
- 42:21And Ralph, Ralph Fines does a great job.
- 42:27Jon: Close.
- 42:28Ryan: trying, at least I tried.
- 42:30He, he does a great job copying Bruce's movements.
- 42:34And again, just the echo and the beginning, it's just, it hits
- 42:39and it works because of the idea.
- 42:41And yeah, it's a fan service, but it's not a bad fan service.
- 42:45It's a good fan service.
- 42:49Jon: And he, you know, his performance in the, in these moments pulls the fingers
- 42:56in, like, Jimmy, Jimmy in that moment knows that this is all performance,
- 43:01but the fingers, except for Spike, who knows exactly what's going on here.
- 43:07The fingers are just pulled in, like, holy crap, we are actually meeting Satan
- 43:13Kearns: It's wild and it's worked out perfectly until Ian sees Spike and he
- 43:20Jon: and, yep.
- 43:20Kearns: what's going on there.
- 43:21'cause he knows
- 43:22Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 43:23Kearns: and he
- 43:24Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 43:24Kearns: pulls a little switch Aki, a little Uno reverse on Jimmy, which is
- 43:30Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 43:30Kearns: was a great portion of the plot.
- 43:31And Jimmy, Jimmy even calls it out and just, he's like, oh, you, you're
- 43:36turning the tables on me, huh?
- 43:38And
- 43:38Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 43:39Kearns: calls the fingers to go after Jimmy.
- 43:42Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 43:44And.
- 43:45Yeah, and they, they do, I mean, the fingers really, you know, recognize, uh,
- 43:53we're going with Satan and not this guy.
- 43:56Kearns: Which is hilarious.
- 43:57And then, uh, Jimmy does a, a quick little
- 44:00Ryan: Yep.
- 44:01Kearns: to say, oh, well, no, I was just, it's not
- 44:03Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 44:04Kearns: me show you.
- 44:04I'll prove it to you.
- 44:05And he gives the, gives him the shiv.
- 44:08And that's the end of Ian.
- 44:10Well, not the immediate end, but the beginning of the end
- 44:12Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 44:13Kearns: But it still
- 44:14Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 44:14Kearns: because
- 44:17Jon: It's also the end for old Jimmy Christ who winds
- 44:22up, uh, inverted, crucified,
- 44:27Kearns: 16.
- 44:28Jon: and,
- 44:29Ryan: by Kay.
- 44:31Kearns: Yeah.
- 44:31Ryan: she, uh, goes, Hey, not haywire, but she kills the other Jimmys,
- 44:35and then she does that favor for
- 44:37Jon: yeah, I mean, because.
- 44:42Even, even sort of in the recognition that, uh, maybe that's not Satan, it's
- 44:48still close enough for her, and it's still, I think, the betrayal of following
- 44:52Jimmy for however long she's been there
- 44:56Ryan: True.
- 44:56Kearns: Yeah, she doesn't
- 44:57Jon: and she gets him.
- 44:58Kearns: And you can tell
- 44:59Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 45:00Kearns: that's kind of the direction that she's heading in for a while.
- 45:02But she just waited for her
- 45:03Jon: Yeah.
- 45:04Kearns: and here it is.
- 45:06Jon: Yep.
- 45:06Kearns: And Spike gets his escape and we, we actually get what we wanted
- 45:10too, which was not two Jimmy movies.
- 45:13With him being, being the big bad, I kind of hope that the third movie from this
- 45:18launchpad pushes toward the infected mor and get, giving us, you know, getting
- 45:23back to the roots of the franchise.
- 45:25Ryan: I mean
- 45:26Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 45:27Ryan: we get Samson, um, who comes back.
- 45:30You know, he brings Dr. Kelson to his resting place so we can say,
- 45:34and he's going on his own adventure.
- 45:36Uh, Jimmy gets destroyed by some infected, which is an awesome jump
- 45:42scare, um, right in your face.
- 45:45Jon: I believe, I believe that was, was Samson.
- 45:48That's what I, I choose to believe that that end is Samson.
- 45:52Ryan: I.
- 45:53Jon: That he, he moves Kelson and then comes back to take care of Jimmy.
- 45:58Ryan: it, he just walks away, it shows that Samson's now
- 46:02becoming more human again.
- 46:04He's like that blend while it being another infected kind of gives it more
- 46:09of a, like Jimmy just becoming that random, which is that whole world.
- 46:13It's
- 46:14Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:14Ryan: time of
- 46:15Jon: But
- 46:15Ryan: living.
- 46:17Jon: what, what's a more human impulse than revenge?
- 46:21Ryan: But Samson, I feel is such a subtle giant because Dr. Kelson was such a
- 46:25nice man, even though he was listening to Iron Maiden, instead of some do
- 46:30Jon: That's.
- 46:31Ryan: in the.
- 46:31Jon: But that, but that's, that's his, that's his man.
- 46:34That, and that, that sort of goes back to what I was talking about before,
- 46:37the mo, the times of them bonding.
- 46:40Like even though Samson can't talk for a good chunk of that, Samson does
- 46:46seem to be getting something besides just morphine high sitting with Dr.
- 46:52Kelson.
- 46:53'cause like he's humanizing before the, before he gets the cure.
- 46:59Ryan: True,
- 47:00Kearns: Which is kind of proven by the choice for him to not tear him
- 47:03apart when he's laying next to him
- 47:06Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 47:07Kearns: and the morphine wears off.
- 47:08Now you can make the argument that there was still some
- 47:10effect on him as he wandered
- 47:12Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 47:12Kearns: yada, yada.
- 47:13But we see restraint building in him.
- 47:15I agree, John.
- 47:17That's true.
- 47:18Ryan: risky.
- 47:19Kearns: Um,
- 47:20Ryan: risky.
- 47:20Kearns: that's, as we segue to the, the actual conclusion, we get a
- 47:25scene with, with an old favorite.
- 47:29Everybody, we all thought he was an infected in the trailer.
- 47:32We got a little misdirection there,
- 47:33Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 47:35It's Robert Carlisle
- 47:36Kearns: Robert Carlisle.
- 47:38And if
- 47:38Jon: back again.
- 47:39Kearns: his character name, who plays Robert Carlisle.
- 47:43Jon: Robert Carlisle.
- 47:44Kearns: Robert Carlisle
- 47:46Jon: I can't remember the character name.
- 47:47Kearns: um, Carlisle.
- 47:50Then, uh, Killian Murphy
- 47:52Jon: Killian Murphy.
- 47:53I'm sorry.
- 47:53I, why did I have Robert Carlisle
- 47:54Ryan: was like
- 47:55Kearns: I was
- 47:55Jon: in my brain?
- 47:56Killian Murphy.
- 47:57Kearns: what's his name in the movie, in the first movie too.
- 47:59'cause I was like, Robert Carlisle doesn't
- 48:01Jon: I still don't reme, I still don't remember.
- 48:04No, I got my, I got one and two confused in my head, and I have
- 48:08for like two or three days now.
- 48:09I've been saying that to myself.
- 48:11Kearns: John, we can't, you're
- 48:12Jon: Yeah.
- 48:13Kearns: with the, with the
- 48:14Jon: Yeah.
- 48:15Kearns: you
- 48:15Jon: No, I. I do that though.
- 48:18I, I get names messed up in my head sometimes.
- 48:21Ryan: We're all human.
- 48:22We're all.
- 48:23Kearns: So we see him with his daughter who looks a lot like
- 48:25the female lead in 28 days later.
- 48:29And, uh, we're, and we don't see her, we don't know if she's outta
- 48:33the picture, but I have a feeling she might be outta the picture.
- 48:35Jon: I mean, she seems out of the picture.
- 48:37Kearns: mom, or we got daughter and dad and he's teaching her
- 48:40history, um, teaching her something.
- 48:43And then we see Spike and Kay running away from an effectively
- 48:47evading a pack and they grab the rifle and they go down to help.
- 48:51And
- 48:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 48:52Kearns: where we're gonna start the next movie.
- 48:54So, I
- 48:55Jon: Yep.
- 48:56Kearns: it was good.
- 48:57It was good for a lot of reasons, um, but
- 48:59Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 49:01Yep.
- 49:02You, I think Kerns, you brought up the point we really only needed one
- 49:08movie where Jimmy is the villain.
- 49:11Kearns: Yeah.
- 49:12Jon: It's nice, he's a good character, but he's not really a deep enough character
- 49:16to carry multiple movies as a villain.
- 49:19Kearns: Right?
- 49:20Jon: You, you establish he's violent, that he, you know, is a satanist, that
- 49:25he is, you know, controlling cult leader, Jim Jonesy, but you know that that's
- 49:32not a character that needs to go on.
- 49:34Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 49:35And they find a way to vanquish him and get back to the
- 49:38main issue at hand, which is
- 49:40Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 49:41Kearns: that we're in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with infected running
- 49:44Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 49:45Kearns: occurring people to this day,
- 49:47Jon: Yep.
- 49:47Kearns: days
- 49:48Jon: Yep.
- 49:48And,
- 49:48Kearns: or 28 years later.
- 49:49I mean,
- 49:50Jon: and you get, you, you'll have you set up some interesting dynamics
- 49:55between, uh, Killian Murphy's character is Jim and his daughter,
- 50:01and Jimmy and Spike, you know, in.
- 50:07The d Jim's daughter is being raised like, kind of like a normal kid.
- 50:12She's getting real schoolwork.
- 50:13She's like, you know, it is kind of a cute little moment where he
- 50:18is like, you know, be prepared.
- 50:21This could be on the test tomorrow.
- 50:24Kearns: Giving
- 50:24Jon: And she calls him out.
- 50:25Well, are, aren't you making the test?
- 50:27You know, like giving her history lessons and you know, not survival where you
- 50:33know you're gonna get spike next to her roughly the same age, and you're
- 50:37gonna get a kid who's just raised in the infected culture and life and survival.
- 50:46Kearns: It's a good point out too.
- 50:48I'm interested to see where they go with it and how the kids
- 50:50play into it, and if spike's
- 50:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 50:53Kearns: becomes a bigger part of the third movie.
- 50:55We kind of talked about that a little bit amongst ourselves, but all in
- 50:59Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 50:59Kearns: it's time for us to give it a rating.
- 51:01What do you guys think?
- 51:03Ryan: Out of five.
- 51:06Out of five, I would say this one's four and a half out of five.
- 51:12Give it a four
- 51:12Kearns: Hmm.
- 51:13Jon: Yeah, I like four and a half for this one.
- 51:15I could,
- 51:16Ryan: Pacing, character
- 51:17Jon: it, I like.
- 51:18Ryan: just actors, uh, music, just story.
- 51:23And it's a sequel.
- 51:24It's right in the middle of a trilogy.
- 51:25And sometimes they're hits and sometimes they're misses.
- 51:28But this was a hit.
- 51:29Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:30Ryan: I didn't mean to step on you, John.
- 51:33Jon: No, no, I agree.
- 51:34This is about a 4.5 and it elevates the first 28 years later too, because that
- 51:40was, that was always my question about how it was gonna feel about, the first one was
- 51:46where they were going with the second one with these characters in this storyline,
- 51:50and I loved what they did with it.
- 51:52Kearns: they, they nailed it.
- 51:53It's the, the long con I love to get wrapped up in when they, they have
- 51:59a vision throughout the whole thing.
- 52:01I agree.
- 52:02The, um, the
- 52:03Jon: And
- 52:04Kearns: name is,
- 52:05Ryan: Di
- 52:05Kearns: say her name.
- 52:06Jon: Nia DeCosta,
- 52:07Kearns: Yeah.
- 52:07Say
- 52:08Jon: and she's really, she's really figured out how to do
- 52:11this without being over the top.
- 52:14Like we, one of the things we talked in Candyman was like the vi how much
- 52:20of the violence and the, the, the deaths are implied and offscreen.
- 52:25And, and she kind of does the same thing with this one.
- 52:27You get, you know, you get the shirt scene in like more background than
- 52:34you know, right in your face gore.
- 52:37And that, that's about as gory as this movie really gets.
- 52:40Kearns: don't lean on it so much.
- 52:42Like that garbage movie.
- 52:43Uh, bring her back.
- 52:44Yeah.
- 52:46they, they ruin the film by just making it all about that stuff.
- 52:49Ryan: Oh,
- 52:50Kearns: This is, this is art, this is well done.
- 52:52Storytelling as opposed to that pile of steaming garbage that, that movie
- 52:57Ryan: her back is
- 52:58Kearns: that
- 52:58Ryan: uh, 4.75, but I digress.
- 53:01Um, with.
- 53:02Kearns: on Ryan's scale.
- 53:04Ryan: Knife biting
- 53:05Kearns: I think this is a four by the way.
- 53:07I won't give it a 4.5 'cause that's like a roundup kind of thing.
- 53:10I'm gonna give this a four.
- 53:12There's a couple of things that didn't land well for me.
- 53:14I think it fits solidly in the four area.
- 53:16I'd like for it to be better, um, or the third movie to be better.
- 53:21But I think a four for a second movie in a trilogy is a damn good thing.
- 53:26You don't want it to be the best in the trilogy like we were talking
- 53:29about earlier with the Dark Knight.
- 53:31It's, it's, movie is arguably better than the Dark Night rises.
- 53:35You don't want the to end, the last movie to be the best in the trilogy.
- 53:40Ryan: Yeah.
- 53:41It doesn't work like that
- 53:43Jon: I don't necessarily, I don't always feel that way.
- 53:46I, I feel like I want the second one to fill in the hole between the, the next.
- 53:54The other two, like to be, here's some more exposition, here's some
- 53:59more of this kind of like Empire does to me, empire is about as good a,
- 54:04a middle trilogy movie as anything.
- 54:07Ryan: Yeah.
- 54:07Kearns: Yeah.
- 54:08It's tricky because with nine, or with uh, three movies, you're
- 54:11trying to do one large story arc and
- 54:14Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 54:15Kearns: impactful part's, usually the climax, which happens at the end, and
- 54:19then you've, that's the third movie.
- 54:20So like,
- 54:21Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 54:22Kearns: get contaminated with it.
- 54:23But I see what you're saying too.
- 54:28Jon: Yeah.
- 54:28I, because I, I, a good part two sets you up for the, the climax in the third one.
- 54:35Ryan: Agreed.
- 54:35And I, like I was saying, it could either work or it can, it can fail.
- 54:40And that.
- 54:41of like leads to our top five today, at least on my end.
- 54:45And that's top five trilogies.
- 54:49And
- 54:50Kearns: Oh,
- 54:51Ryan: I went with my top five trilogy.
- 54:53So like if, if your whistle's wet after seeing, you know, 28 years later and uh,
- 54:5828 years later, you know, the Bone Temple?
- 55:01Kearns: you should see a doctor.
- 55:02Ryan: you should see a doctor, but you should, you know, if you're waiting
- 55:04for the end of that trilogy, you should take a look at these trilogies.
- 55:08And I'm gonna start off with the bang and number five.
- 55:11the Alien Trilogy and yeah, little Controversy.
- 55:15We got Alien, you got Aliens, and then you got Alien three.
- 55:20Alien three the studio involvement could have been a great film.
- 55:25And I know David Fincher, he disowns it, but his original like.
- 55:30His view of it have taken it somewhere, and at least we get the ending.
- 55:34Ripley dies.
- 55:35Spoiler Ripley dies.
- 55:37She gets thrown in the lava.
- 55:38She's got an alien pregnant in her.
- 55:40But the setup between the first alien aliens into Alien three, it works.
- 55:47It works.
- 55:47Even though it
- 55:49Jon: I'm gonna put an alien in her.
- 55:50Kearns: say like the way you said that was, so, I don't know.
- 55:56Ryan: She, well, she
- 55:58Kearns: Time to roll into number four, Ryan.
- 56:01Ryan: Number four, this is gonna be controversy because it's the
- 56:04Hannibal Trilogy, and I'm not going with, I'm not going with Red Dragon.
- 56:08We're going with the original trilogy.
- 56:10We're going with Manhunter, silence of the Lambs, and then Hannibal.
- 56:15Yeah, because if you, I mean, you can watch Red Dragon, but you watch the
- 56:19original, you get the vibe they're going with, they continued that with
- 56:23Silence The Lambs, and then they go directly more into horror with Hannibal.
- 56:27But again, the setup, whether you switch or do the switch rule with Red
- 56:30Dragon or Manhunter, it still works out.
- 56:32And it's a decent horror drama I know it's on that thin line of horror
- 56:39and drama, but it's a thin, thin line, which leads to number three,
- 56:44and that's the Evil Dead trilogy.
- 56:46Um, this trilogy is amazing from going from horror to comedy in a flash.
- 56:51Even though the third film is 50 50 on whether it be considered horror or
- 56:57fantasy action, adventure, it still hits the nerve and it's wham bam.
- 57:02Thank you, ma'am.
- 57:03Uh, continuing the story two.
- 57:05Number two, which is recent.
- 57:07Uh, Ty West's ex Trilogy.
- 57:09Uh.
- 57:10Certain way you can watch it is, you can watch it through X Pearl.
- 57:14Maxine.
- 57:15I recommend watching it as starting with Pearl, uh, you know, showing who
- 57:20the villain is to x kind of showing where the villain has ended up, as
- 57:25well as this new generation of actors and actresses kind of crossing through
- 57:29this farm to Maxine, which, you know, ends the trilogy brilliantly.
- 57:36And it's, again, it's another trilogy that's all over considered
- 57:38horror, but there's a lot of thriller in it, uh, drama too,
- 57:43Jon: And it's also a trilogy that three movies are not even
- 57:49remotely the same kind of movie.
- 57:51Ryan: too.
- 57:52'cause it's like slasher psychological.
- 57:54Um, I would say the third one's more noir.
- 57:58Style.
- 57:59Noir.
- 58:01Jon: Yeah.
- 58:01The third one's like noir, um, psychological serial killer,
- 58:06thrillery than horror even.
- 58:09Ryan: Yeah, I could.
- 58:10Yeah.
- 58:10I mean, I, I just seen it recently.
- 58:12I did, I, I love x the first one, of course, but Maxine is Mac.
- 58:18Maxine hit the nerve.
- 58:19But number
- 58:21Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 58:21Ryan: you're, you're gonna be, you're gonna be, this is for John.
- 58:25You know, I don't share a lot of love.
- 58:26And that's the dead trilogy.
- 58:28That's night, that's dawn, that's day It's the greatest trilogy because it's
- 58:32like, it's like a rollercoaster ride.
- 58:35You, you know, you start off at the bottom with night, you start going to
- 58:38the top, kind of start going through the craziness of the curves with dawn,
- 58:42and then day kind of gets you settled
- 58:44Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 58:45Ryan: And it's just like, you're snowed in.
- 58:50snowed in today.
- 58:51You're snowed in like another day.
- 58:53I mean, this is coming out a week later, so you might not be snowed in anymore,
- 58:56but if you have the time, check out these trilogies, especially the dead trilogy.
- 58:59Now, John, I gotta hear, what, what was your top five?
- 59:02Because I did have a tough time coming up with the top five for this.
- 59:05So I wanna see which way you went with it.
- 59:09Jon: I had a couple ways I was gonna go, but I settled on my
- 59:12most anticipated horror movies of 2026 because this was right.
- 59:17This was right at the top.
- 59:19But now that, now that we've seen it, and I realized as I was putting this list
- 59:24together, there is a. Definite theme.
- 59:28We'll see how many movies it takes for you guys to figure that one out.
- 59:31Um, so my number five comes out on February 20th.
- 59:35It's called, this is not a Test, and it, uh, what I have of a plot is five students
- 59:43are forced to take shelter in their high school during a zombie outbreak.
- 59:47I watched the trailer before we started recording.
- 59:50It looks like it's gonna hit pretty good.
- 59:53And if not it, you know, it's still zombie mayhem and a lot of fun.
- 59:58Um, my number four, we're gonna go to a director who's made a couple
- 1:00:03of appearances on here, getting his first, his hands on his first
- 1:00:07intellectual property, and that's Zach Craiger getting a resident evil movie.
- 1:00:13Ryan: doing resident evil, the battery.
- 1:00:15The
- 1:00:16Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:16Kearns: This one might actually bring that franchise back too.
- 1:00:20Jon: I mean, and, and really.
- 1:00:22That's the thing.
- 1:00:24I have so badly for so many years, wanted a good resonant, evil movie
- 1:00:31that you know, is true enough to the game, but not stuck in the game
- 1:00:38and not crap, and not, you know, really action more than it is horror.
- 1:00:44And I think I have some hope for what Zach Krieger can do with this franchise.
- 1:00:49And that is currently scheduled to come out September 18th.
- 1:00:52Ryan: because, uh, just to go into a side note with the Silent Hill film, new one
- 1:00:57did not hit as expected because they don't get the like the clasp of that story.
- 1:01:05hopefully Zach Craiger will bring the clasp like, you know, the grasp.
- 1:01:10There we go.
- 1:01:11They don't get the grasp of the story.
- 1:01:13Jon: There.
- 1:01:13Kearns: it is.
- 1:01:14All right.
- 1:01:14Ryan: that
- 1:01:15Kearns: Um.
- 1:01:16Anybody
- 1:01:16Jon: it is.
- 1:01:17Kearns: familiar with Brian Keen and his work and his bookstore, vortex,
- 1:01:21his, um, newsletter came out today and he was talking about, he went to see
- 1:01:25it 'cause it's his, uh, it might have been his daughter's favorite franchise.
- 1:01:30he did go out to see Silent Hill and yeah.
- 1:01:36But he also made mention, more importantly than his opinion on
- 1:01:39it, he made mention of, um, the franchise's marketing was abhorrent.
- 1:01:43He didn't even know there was a movie out and we didn't either.
- 1:01:47Ryan: No.
- 1:01:48Jon: Oh, I've seen nothing.
- 1:01:49I, I mean, I knew it was coming out because I watch calendars
- 1:01:52and stuff for, for horror movies.
- 1:01:54I knew it was coming, but I've seen nothing.
- 1:01:58I don't think I saw a trailer.
- 1:01:59I don't think I saw an ad. I don't think anything.
- 1:02:02Kearns: There's another one out too.
- 1:02:04Uh, bone Temple could have been better advertised as well, by the way.
- 1:02:07Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:08Kearns: another horror movie in theaters right now as well.
- 1:02:10I forget the name of it, but it's also not, well, not my fault, I guess,
- 1:02:14but it's also not being advertised.
- 1:02:17Jon: Is it Send help.
- 1:02:18Kearns: Maybe.
- 1:02:20Maybe.
- 1:02:21Jon: Because that I, I've, I've seen a, if it sent help, I've seen a bit for that
- 1:02:25and I've seen, like they're hyping it mostly as the Sam Raey return to horror.
- 1:02:33Kearns: Gotcha.
- 1:02:33Gotcha.
- 1:02:34Ryan: There's a little rumbling on it because it's rated R and it's his
- 1:02:37first R rating in a long while too.
- 1:02:41Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:42Which ties back into my number three, which is coming out July 24th.
- 1:02:48And while it's not Sam Raey, it is Evil Dead Burn.
- 1:02:53Kearns: Now I, I'm interested to see if this one is like the first one.
- 1:02:58Um, they kind of, they went hard in the paint with the, with the
- 1:03:02Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:03Kearns: Dead movie and it,
- 1:03:04Jon: Yes.
- 1:03:04E.
- 1:03:05Kearns: reception obviously and stuff, but I thought it was good
- 1:03:08Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:08Kearns: what they
- 1:03:08Jon: There are not a lot of details available at the moment.
- 1:03:12Um, it's a standalone, not a sequel to Evil Dead Rise.
- 1:03:17It's a whole new story.
- 1:03:19Kearns: which
- 1:03:19Jon: I've seen the cast, I don't mm-hmm.
- 1:03:23I what more do you have to do?
- 1:03:25Like, evil Dead rise ends, how it should end.
- 1:03:29It didn't, doesn't need more.
- 1:03:30So, like, I curious to see what they do with that.
- 1:03:34Uh, I'll always go see an Evil Dead movie, so I'll be there
- 1:03:40and hopefully it's, it lives up.
- 1:03:43Um, my number two is actually based on a book by, uh, David Kepp, number two, two,
- 1:03:53a book by David Kepp called Cold Storage.
- 1:03:58Uh, this comes out
- 1:03:59Kearns: one looks
- 1:04:00Jon: February 13th.
- 1:04:01Kearns: This is the
- 1:04:02Jon: February 13th.
- 1:04:03Kearns: right?
- 1:04:05Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:06Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:06Uh, so it can be your Valentine's Day movie.
- 1:04:10Uh, and cold storage is a parasitic fungus stored under a self storage
- 1:04:15company, escapes and begins to infect any living creature.
- 1:04:20To make matters worse, it multiplies in heat and the once secure
- 1:04:24storage unit is rapidly warming.
- 1:04:27Uh, and you get Liam Neeson, you get Joe Cury from Stranger Things, and
- 1:04:33you get Georgina Cam Campbell back.
- 1:04:35Uh, our Barbarian friend.
- 1:04:37Ryan: It's a good lineup right there.
- 1:04:39Kearns: It's not bad.
- 1:04:39Jon: Yeah, it's a good cast.
- 1:04:41Trailers look pretty good.
- 1:04:42Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:43Ryan: jumping into horror now.
- 1:04:47Jon: I mean, he's, he's bounced in and outta horror before
- 1:04:49Ryan: man.
- 1:04:51Jon: or horror adjacent, you know.
- 1:04:54He, he's flirted with those lines.
- 1:04:56My number one, I mean, is really not a surprise, although I'm not even
- 1:05:02convinced it's gonna come out this year.
- 1:05:04It was supposed to come out last year.
- 1:05:06It's now scheduled for November.
- 1:05:08It does finally have a cast attached that includes Devin S
- 1:05:13and the return of the Tarman.
- 1:05:15And it is Return of the Living Dead.
- 1:05:18Kearns: Worse.
- 1:05:19That's the one you're most excited for.
- 1:05:21Jon: Absolutely.
- 1:05:22I, the minimal plot I have 18 months after the events of the
- 1:05:27original, A Trioxin 2, 4, 5 leak.
- 1:05:30Threatens a small town at Christmas.
- 1:05:34Ryan: So it is like a.
- 1:05:35Jon: It's gonna be a Christmas movie too.
- 1:05:37Ryan: it's like a sequel then.
- 1:05:39It is a sequel.
- 1:05:41Jon: It is, it is a sequel.
- 1:05:43I listen, the likelihood is, is this is gonna stink.
- 1:05:48Um, the director is, the only thing I've ever seen that he did is a movie
- 1:05:52called Kill Her Goats, which was a mess.
- 1:05:57It had some moments, but it was overall a mess.
- 1:06:00Uh, I, I mean, but it's Return of Living Dead and I wanna believe
- 1:06:04that someone's gonna make another good Return of Living Dead movie.
- 1:06:08Ryan: And if, if not, then this is your time to Shine, John, you make,
- 1:06:14we make a return to Living Dead film.
- 1:06:19Jon: Like, I just don't know if you can match the original.
- 1:06:24I just don't know.
- 1:06:26Kearns: No, their best bet is to do something unique and of them and try to
- 1:06:32Jon: Hmm.
- 1:06:32Kearns: that is as good as the original, but you can't match it and
- 1:06:35be the same thing as the original.
- 1:06:37That's the whole thing with remakes.
- 1:06:38You can't do, it doesn't work.
- 1:06:42They gotta add
- 1:06:43Jon: Nope.
- 1:06:43Kearns: usually they screw that up and we get mad.
- 1:06:45Ryan: Yep.
- 1:06:47Jon: Yep.
- 1:06:47Kearns: Anyway.
- 1:06:48All right guys.
- 1:06:49Well
- 1:06:51Jon: get to the theaters when it's not snowing and go see Bone Temple.
- 1:06:54Kearns: should.
- 1:06:54It's worth your money
- 1:06:55Ryan: Yeah.
- 1:06:56Kearns: it, we had a good ex. We had a good time.
- 1:06:59Jon: Yep.
- 1:07:01See it.
- 1:07:01Very afraid.
