- 0:38Speaker 1: I am Shad Millman of the Action Network joining me
- 0:41Speaker 1: on the phone from Vegas, representing the Orleans Sports Book
- 0:45Speaker 1: and all the board gaming books in the state of Nevada,
- 0:50Speaker 1: the world's bookmaker, according to him, Mr Bob Scucci. Chad,
- 0:56Speaker 1: how's it going? I am so good man. There's so
- 0:59Speaker 1: much going on in the world of sports betting right now. Uh.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Later on in the show, Lauren Joffey, one of our
- 1:05Speaker 1: Action Network contributors writers personalities. She is spending the day
- 1:10Speaker 1: in Delaware. Today is is Tuesday. It's the first day
- 1:13Speaker 1: of betting. Uh. In Delaware. The Governor of Delaware made
- 1:17Speaker 1: the very first bet. He bet on the Phillies. No surprise,
- 1:20Speaker 1: given Delaware's proximity to Philadelphia into Pennsylvania. He bet on
- 1:24Speaker 1: the Phillies. Plus two oh six against the Cubs tonight. UM,
- 1:28Speaker 1: Lauren Joffey is going to come on the podcast later
- 1:30Speaker 1: on the show, going to talk about her adventures in
- 1:32Speaker 1: Delaware and all the things that she saw. She's going
- 1:34Speaker 1: to all three sports books in Delaware. Uh, it'll be great. Um,

- 1:58Speaker 1: One of the things we ask people to do last
- 2:00Speaker 1: week was make suggestions for the Sports Betting Hall of Fame,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and we're going to get to that. People made great suggestions.
- 2:07Speaker 1: They made it on the iTunes page. They gave it
- 2:09Speaker 1: to his via Twitter. A lot of names sort of
- 2:11Speaker 1: for the inaugural ballot came through for the first class.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'm excited to talk about that. We're gonna talk about
- 2:17Speaker 1: that a little bit. Uh. We want to talk about
- 2:20Speaker 1: the NBA, but first I want to get your take
- 2:22Speaker 1: on Delaware. Like, this is happening, man, this is really happening.
- 2:27Speaker 1: When you're waking up today, what are you thinking I'm
- 2:30Speaker 1: excited about it. I mean, it's to me, it's like
- 2:32Speaker 1: the first step in like a long staircase that's you know,
- 2:35Speaker 1: ascending up and uh and and the payoff is going
- 2:39Speaker 1: to be big and uh. You know, I've been thinking
- 2:42Speaker 1: about this moment for for many years, when you'd be
- 2:45Speaker 1: able to take true sports betting in states outside of Nevada,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and I just think it's tremendously exciting and just kind
- 2:54Speaker 1: of can't wait to see to see how it progresses.
- 2:57Speaker 1: As the self proclaimed world bookmaker? Are you disappointed that
- 3:01Speaker 1: Delaware opened and they did not call you a little bit?
- 3:06Speaker 1: I was waiting by the phone. You know, I'm here,
- 3:08Speaker 1: I'm will offer my support, and I didn't get the call.
- 3:12Speaker 1: For those who missed the podcast last week, Scooch, in
- 3:15Speaker 1: what had to be a record turnaround, went from being
- 3:20Speaker 1: very humble about not feeling like he needs to do
- 3:24Speaker 1: anything outside of Vegas to declaring that maybe he should
- 3:28Speaker 1: be the bookmaker to the world. Well, you got me
- 3:32Speaker 1: thinking about it. You're like, you know the bookmakers. Listen.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I don't think I got you thinking about anything. You
- 3:38Speaker 1: get all thinking about yourself because I didn't say anything
- 3:41Speaker 1: in those five to ten seconds. You just sort of
- 3:43Speaker 1: went from very humble Scooch to dr evil Scooch U
- 3:48Speaker 1: with the flip of a switch. And I'm wondering this
- 3:52Speaker 1: week if you plotted to, like, shouldn't I be in
- 3:55Speaker 1: Delaware right now? Shouldn't I be making minds in Delaware?
- 3:58Speaker 1: The governor be betting me Delaware right now? No? No, Well,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I wish I wish we had a property in Delaware.
- 4:07Speaker 1: That'd be nice. I think it would have been really
- 4:10Speaker 1: exciting to be on the ground floor there. But I
- 4:13Speaker 1: feel like I'm missing out in that respect. But uh,
- 4:16Speaker 1: we'll have We'll have our day in the sun. It
- 4:19Speaker 1: is amazing. It really is amazing that this is actually happening.
- 4:24Speaker 1: It feels um you know, I'm ensconced in my office
- 4:28Speaker 1: in New York and your Vegas and we're tracking get
- 4:30Speaker 1: on Twitter and sort of following the feedback from the
- 4:33Speaker 1: posts we haven't the folks we have in the ground there.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But it just also it feels like, maybe because you
- 4:39Speaker 1: and I are so immersed in this world, it feels like,
- 4:42Speaker 1: really people are getting that excited to go to a
- 4:44Speaker 1: sports book. Yeah, I know, I mean for us that
- 4:49Speaker 1: we've lived it for so many years. And and you know,
- 4:53Speaker 1: me waking up in every single day for almost thirty years.
- 4:57Speaker 1: It's just like, h I'm oh, I always marvel at
- 5:01Speaker 1: someone else's excitement about sports betting because I see it.
- 5:05Speaker 1: A lot people come into the casino for the first
- 5:07Speaker 1: time and they get enamored by the boards and all
- 5:09Speaker 1: the lights, and it's exciting for them, and I'm thinking, Okay, yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 1: this is you know, sports betting. You know, we've been
- 5:17Speaker 1: doing it every day, but that's all. It Also is
- 5:21Speaker 1: why we're seeing this boom in sports betting around the country,
- 5:25Speaker 1: because so many people are seeing it and experiencing experiencing
- 5:30Speaker 1: it for the first time. So that's why, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: if you ask me if I feel threatened by it,
- 5:34Speaker 1: I know because I think it's just part of the
- 5:36Speaker 1: boom and until the kind of plateaus, we're just gonna
- 5:40Speaker 1: ride the wave. Um. It's funny people get excited by
- 5:45Speaker 1: the lights. It's as if it's as if they're three
- 5:50Speaker 1: look at all the lights. If you you've seen them
- 5:54Speaker 1: in there, you know what I'm talking about. They're looking
- 5:57Speaker 1: up on the board and they're just amazed by it.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It is pretty amazing, Like how people whenever they want
- 6:02Speaker 1: to sort of symbolize sports betting. They will always say,
- 6:07Speaker 1: we got to get a big board, a big betting board.
- 6:09Speaker 1: People love a big betting board like a Christmas tree. Yeah. No,
- 6:14Speaker 1: the bigger the better, the brighter the better. And uh,
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know, even at one point I was trying to
- 6:19Speaker 1: figure out a way through some like computer graphics, like
- 6:22Speaker 1: every time a line changed, I wanted that, uh, the
- 6:26Speaker 1: the odds to grow bigger like a big Keno ball,
- 6:30Speaker 1: like how it just expands throughout the here, you know,
- 6:32Speaker 1: like eagles minus five and then just kind of go
- 6:35Speaker 1: back so that everyone can see the the latest line
- 6:38Speaker 1: change and just kind of kind of add those graphics
- 6:41Speaker 1: up there. I think it's ideas like that that will
- 6:44Speaker 1: do one of two things for you. Scoog A might
- 6:46Speaker 1: get you in the Sports Betting Hall of Fame one day.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Be people are going to hear about this, and they
- 6:52Speaker 1: might want to make you bookmaker to the world. That
- 6:55Speaker 1: could be you know, you never know, So everyone out
- 6:58Speaker 1: there listening grunelle, I feel like we need some kind
- 7:01Speaker 1: of music that comes on every time we call Scooch
- 7:03Speaker 1: bookmaker to the world. We're gonna get that done. We're
- 7:08Speaker 1: gonna get that done for you, Scooch is gonna be like,
- 7:10Speaker 1: like your walk up music. I was gonna say, let's
- 7:12Speaker 1: throw it out there. See what kind of suggestions ever
- 7:15Speaker 1: everyone has for that. I was at a minor league
- 7:18Speaker 1: baseball game, uh last weekend in Hertford, Connecticut, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: not too far from where I live. Beautiful stadium out there, amazing,
- 7:28Speaker 1: like what they did. It took him three years to
- 7:30Speaker 1: build it, and like for a year it's at idle
- 7:32Speaker 1: because there was so much corruption in the building of
- 7:34Speaker 1: the stadium that they basically had to stop and like
- 7:37Speaker 1: refinance the whole thing. Um, it was classic sort of
- 7:40Speaker 1: this is why Hartford can't get out of its own way.
- 7:43Speaker 1: But the stadium now is amazing. It's the Hertford yard Goats,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and like it's such a great evening to go. One
- 7:49Speaker 1: of the players their um walk up music was the
- 7:53Speaker 1: song um, I Am a lost boy. It's like a
- 7:58Speaker 1: very sort of soft, aodic, sweet song. And I thought
- 8:03Speaker 1: to myself, does he get like grief in the locker room?
- 8:07Speaker 1: Because he's got sort of a very sweet kind song
- 8:12Speaker 1: and everyone else is coming up to like some pretty
- 8:15Speaker 1: energizing stuff that makes you aunt and I want to
- 8:18Speaker 1: hit a home run. Yeah, so what do you think?
- 8:23Speaker 1: I just I just thought of it. I'm actually looking.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I admired his courage, I was, so I guess different settings.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I mean, for so, for something like that, I think
- 8:35Speaker 1: most people would want to get pumped up. I mean,
- 8:38Speaker 1: especially like when it's started with the relief pictures, you know.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I mean I could go back many years and to
- 8:44Speaker 1: the first ones that I ever remember, as far as
- 8:46Speaker 1: walk up music, and it was something that kind of
- 8:49Speaker 1: had a meaning to it, you know. So I guess
- 8:54Speaker 1: I guess a real soft one. I don't know if
- 8:55Speaker 1: it would really inspire too many people, but if it
- 8:58Speaker 1: inspires him, hey go for it. That's what I like
- 9:02Speaker 1: about this world today. You get to own your choices. Yeah,
- 9:05Speaker 1: that's true. That's true. People of Delaware made a choice.
- 9:09Speaker 1: They want sports betting. Good for them. What choices are
- 9:14Speaker 1: people making with the NBA Finals? Tell me about what
- 9:17Speaker 1: you're seeing? Where two games in the third game is
- 9:20Speaker 1: tomorrow night, so a lot of people will be hearing this,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you know, even after game three. I don't think it
- 9:25Speaker 1: changes the narrative very much at all. Um, tell me
- 9:28Speaker 1: about it. Well, I'll tell you last week. If you
- 9:30Speaker 1: remember I said I thought people were going to come
- 9:32Speaker 1: in really heavy on the Cavaliers, and you said, I
- 9:36Speaker 1: think they're going to come in really heavy on the Warriors.
- 9:39Speaker 1: And it turns out we were both right. We had
- 9:42Speaker 1: a ton of action on the Cavaliers money line, and
- 9:45Speaker 1: we had a ton on the Warriors minus the twelve
- 9:48Speaker 1: and a half minus thirteen as it fluctuated, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: half the point here and there. At one point, we
- 9:56Speaker 1: were so buried on Cavalier's money on the money line.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Was getting mad at the guys down in the war room.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I was throwing him some looks because every time I'd
- 10:04Speaker 1: go to a meeting, I'd come back and we'd beat
- 10:07Speaker 1: thousands and thousands heavier on the money line. And I'm like, hey,
- 10:10Speaker 1: when are you gonna take some Warriors money on the
- 10:13Speaker 1: money line at like minus eight dollars minus nine dollars
- 10:17Speaker 1: And they're just looking at me, saying, the Cavaliers have
- 10:19Speaker 1: no chance in this one. Let's just ride this one out.
- 10:22Speaker 1: So so we had a little battle among the guys
- 10:25Speaker 1: in the hub during that first game, and then ultimately
- 10:29Speaker 1: I went with They kind of persuaded me and I said,
- 10:31Speaker 1: all right, just take all the Cavaliers money you want
- 10:34Speaker 1: on the money line, and right out of the gate
- 10:36Speaker 1: in the first quarter, I said, we're in trouble here,
- 10:38Speaker 1: and I didn't say a word the rest of the game.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I just shot looks to the guys every time the
- 10:43Speaker 1: Cavaliers took and then when Steph Carry had a three
- 10:49Speaker 1: to tie it up at a halftime, I'm like, you know,
- 10:51Speaker 1: when the Warriors is a thirteen point favorite need a
- 10:54Speaker 1: three to tie it up at halftime, I said, we're
- 10:57Speaker 1: in real trouble. So, uh, when I had to leave
- 11:02Speaker 1: at a couple of points during the game because I
- 11:03Speaker 1: didn't want to watch anymore, but when it was one
- 11:06Speaker 1: oh seven, one oh seven, that's I mean, I was
- 11:09Speaker 1: sweating it because I figured we lost it, especially when
- 11:12Speaker 1: before the free throw, which I figured he was going
- 11:14Speaker 1: to make the free throw and the Warriors only would
- 11:17Speaker 1: have had a couple of seconds to uh to take
- 11:19Speaker 1: the lead back. So just what an unbelievable ending that ultimately,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and then a reversal. Then in overtime, I'm actually rooting
- 11:29Speaker 1: for the Warriors to slow down because now I don't
- 11:31Speaker 1: want him to cover thirteens. So I mean, so these
- 11:34Speaker 1: are the giant swings that you have when you're talking
- 11:36Speaker 1: about a point spread being involved and the different ways
- 11:39Speaker 1: and that you're rooting in the sports book the entire game.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I'm rooting for the Warriors to win, but not by
- 11:44Speaker 1: more than thirteen. So when they're up by ten and
- 11:47Speaker 1: they got the ball back, I mean, I didn't think
- 11:49Speaker 1: they would take a last shot, but you never know,
- 11:51Speaker 1: they might have. You know how, I know I've done
- 11:54Speaker 1: a good job with my kids. Hell, I no longer
- 11:58Speaker 1: have to explain to them what I mean when I
- 12:01Speaker 1: say I want the Warriors to win. I want, I
- 12:06Speaker 1: want to I want I want like the Calves, what
- 12:11Speaker 1: do I want? You don't know what? You've done a
- 12:13Speaker 1: real good job explaining to your kids. I can see
- 12:18Speaker 1: I only want the Warriors to win. Well, I got
- 12:20Speaker 1: confused because I was thinking back at my bets like
- 12:23Speaker 1: I had. Um, you know, we are now doing a
- 12:26Speaker 1: show on ESPN Plus called I'll Take that Bet, So
- 12:30Speaker 1: go subscribe to ESPN Plus dear listeners, um, and you
- 12:34Speaker 1: can get the Action Network talent uh doing shows a
- 12:37Speaker 1: few times a week, UM talking about what's happening sort
- 12:40Speaker 1: of in the betting world and our picks for that
- 12:42Speaker 1: night and so on. The premier episode, which was last Thursday.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Um me and Paul Duca, you know, former Catcher and
- 12:51Speaker 1: and all Star made made four time All Star. We
- 12:54Speaker 1: were the first two people and Luduca and I did
- 12:57Speaker 1: a side action bet. Side action is like this fun
- 13:00Speaker 1: thing we have it the Action Network. Um, go to
- 13:02Speaker 1: Action Network dot com. But side action, like, we have
- 13:05Speaker 1: a slack channel that is dedicated only to the action
- 13:07Speaker 1: that is between everyone in the Action Network. And it
- 13:10Speaker 1: is honest to god, like I have to start kicking
- 13:14Speaker 1: people out because they're not doing their work anymore. They're
- 13:16Speaker 1: only making bets with each other. And um so PAULI
- 13:20Speaker 1: and I did a side action bet. He was wearing
- 13:22Speaker 1: like this classic Brooklyn Dodgers peewee rees throwback jacket. I'm like,
- 13:27Speaker 1: side action bet. I said this on the show. Side
- 13:28Speaker 1: Action bet the Calves plus seven in the first half,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and he totally took the Warriors and the whole time,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I'm like, I own this bet. So that's why I
- 13:38Speaker 1: got confused because then the second I wanted the Calves
- 13:40Speaker 1: in that in that first half. In the second game,
- 13:43Speaker 1: the second game, I went all in on the Warriors
- 13:45Speaker 1: minus eleven and a half, which I never do. I
- 13:47Speaker 1: never bet a favorite that big, But it just felt
- 13:50Speaker 1: like the spot, right, It just felt like I went
- 13:53Speaker 1: through I went the other way too, and I said,
- 13:56Speaker 1: let's make sure we're really high on the Warriors and
- 13:58Speaker 1: game too. They really should have lost Game one, and
- 14:01Speaker 1: now if there's going to be a blowout in this series,
- 14:04Speaker 1: it's it's definitely going to be Game two. Yeah, And
- 14:07Speaker 1: so that's why that's why I got confused, cause I'm like,
- 14:10Speaker 1: wait a second, how was I describing what I wanted
- 14:13Speaker 1: to my kids? Maybe I'm not such a great parent
- 14:16Speaker 1: because I'm trying to think back about how it was
- 14:18Speaker 1: describing my action to my kids. Yeah. Right, it's not
- 14:22Speaker 1: whether you win or lose. It's important. It's by how much.
- 14:29Speaker 1: That's exactly what it is. Um, so what do you
- 14:32Speaker 1: need right now in this series? Uh? Well, for the series,
- 14:36Speaker 1: we actually need the Warriors to win. To win the series,
- 14:39Speaker 1: I mean, they were the they were the favorites most
- 14:41Speaker 1: of the year, so they're not They weren't long odds
- 14:43Speaker 1: at any point. And then at the beginning prior to
- 14:46Speaker 1: Game one at eight to one, everybody was taking a
- 14:49Speaker 1: shot on the Cavaliers to win the series. I mean
- 14:53Speaker 1: every fifty dollar bet. It was just looking for the
- 14:57Speaker 1: long odds on on the Cavalier is a big upset
- 15:00Speaker 1: hoping for so uh, we need the Warriors there in
- 15:04Speaker 1: in game. Actually, in the next Game three, I just
- 15:07Speaker 1: went to four on the game. We were at five.
- 15:10Speaker 1: We went to four and a half pretty early, and
- 15:12Speaker 1: then just before we started doing this podcast, I went
- 15:15Speaker 1: to four on the game because we're buried on the
- 15:18Speaker 1: Cavaliers so so far right now in this game three,
- 15:22Speaker 1: both on the money line and taking the points. So
- 15:24Speaker 1: we're gonna be Warriors fans again. I figured this is
- 15:27Speaker 1: a game, I mean, if they're gonna if they're gonna
- 15:29Speaker 1: win one, if they're going to prevent a sweep, you've
- 15:32Speaker 1: got to think that it's down to zero going back
- 15:34Speaker 1: at home. And then, as you know, there's another angle
- 15:37Speaker 1: that's been going on the last couple of seasons, and
- 15:39Speaker 1: especially in the playoffs, or particularly in the playoffs, I
- 15:43Speaker 1: should say, when a team is down to zero and
- 15:45Speaker 1: they're going back home, the play has been to bet
- 15:49Speaker 1: them in the first half. And so you're seeing this
- 15:52Speaker 1: big disparity between the first half line and the game line.
- 15:55Speaker 1: So the first half line on the Warriors and Kazas
- 15:59Speaker 1: to pick them and for a game that opened five,
- 16:02Speaker 1: usually it's a right and around half the game line
- 16:05Speaker 1: for the first half, but it's not. It's it's a
- 16:08Speaker 1: pick them, reflecting that trend that the home team is
- 16:12Speaker 1: particularly going to be competitive in the first half down
- 16:15Speaker 1: to zero going back at home. Isn't that amazing how
- 16:18Speaker 1: these trends pop up and sort of become really become
- 16:22Speaker 1: commonplace amongst a much larger group beyond the professional betting community,
- 16:27Speaker 1: like that first half bat like, I've only been thinking
- 16:30Speaker 1: about first half. Like you mentioned, you know, pick tonight
- 16:33Speaker 1: or pick them for tomorrow night. I'm planning on betting
- 16:36Speaker 1: the calves that pick tomorrow night, even though there's not
- 16:39Speaker 1: supposedly the value on them. Right, you would think you'd
- 16:42Speaker 1: begin at least two points in a game where there
- 16:44Speaker 1: are four and a half five point underdog. You would
- 16:46Speaker 1: think that you should be getting a couple of points
- 16:48Speaker 1: in this one. No one's ever, no one's ever accused
- 16:50Speaker 1: me of being a value better. You just look for
- 16:54Speaker 1: the winner, whether this value or not. I play as
- 16:58Speaker 1: we've said, the right side is the winning side. Yes,
- 17:01Speaker 1: sir god, we haven't done a scootism or a millionism
- 17:04Speaker 1: in a while. No, we're just you know, the summer,
- 17:07Speaker 1: we're getting lazy. Seriously, so true, all right, so you
- 17:11Speaker 1: need the Warriors to win the series and the rest
- 17:14Speaker 1: of and the rest of the like whatever happens, Like
- 17:17Speaker 1: does it matter to you if they win in four?
- 17:19Speaker 1: Does it matter to you if they win in five?
- 17:21Speaker 1: Where is your liability? And that? In that respect, Well,
- 17:24Speaker 1: I'd like to see him stretch it out only from
- 17:26Speaker 1: a handle and a win perspective. The more games, the
- 17:28Speaker 1: more action. I mean, once this is over and the
- 17:30Speaker 1: and the Stanley Cup is over, then we just have
- 17:33Speaker 1: to kind of fade baseball the rest of the summer,
- 17:35Speaker 1: which could be a real grind uh no offense. I mean,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I love baseball, but it's hard to win and so
- 17:41Speaker 1: uh so these games draw a lot of action. So
- 17:44Speaker 1: if we can stretch it out just you know, six
- 17:46Speaker 1: or seven games, that'd be great from the sports book
- 17:48Speaker 1: point of view, as as long as we don't get
- 17:50Speaker 1: killed on each of those games. Do you think you're
- 17:53Speaker 1: going to get a lot of World Cup action? I
- 17:56Speaker 1: do now. I mean I would have loved it if
- 17:58Speaker 1: the time was better, meaning that the games were being
- 18:02Speaker 1: played at a time in Vegas where it's kind of
- 18:04Speaker 1: more conducive to the betting. Uh, some of these games
- 18:06Speaker 1: are going to be starting three o'clock in the morning,
- 18:08Speaker 1: five o'clock in the morning Vegas time. So but but
- 18:12Speaker 1: the World Cup, the last few that we've had have
- 18:15Speaker 1: gotten bigger and bigger. And now with the you know,
- 18:19Speaker 1: the mobile piece of it, the the mobile app, it's
- 18:22Speaker 1: going to make it a lot easier for people to
- 18:24Speaker 1: be sitting at home making those bets, making those in
- 18:26Speaker 1: progress bets. Well, this will be the biggest handle Nevada
- 18:31Speaker 1: has had on the World Cup. I guarantee it, because
- 18:34Speaker 1: there's everyone has more operators, have the mobile app now
- 18:38Speaker 1: and even though the time is kind of weird for
- 18:40Speaker 1: us here, um, what we'll do a tremendous amount of action.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I'm excited about it. We had Action Network dot Com
- 18:46Speaker 1: I already have a massive amount of content for World Cup.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Go check it out, figure out who you should bet on,
- 18:53Speaker 1: figure out where the value is. You do not have
- 18:55Speaker 1: to be rooting for the US A U S fan
- 18:58Speaker 1: to get involved in the World Cup and have a
- 19:00Speaker 1: little fun with it. Go to Action Network dot Com.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Also go to UH the buffet with chat and Scooch
- 19:07Speaker 1: page on iTunes and rate review, unsubscribe, resubscribe. Um, do
- 19:13Speaker 1: all those things to the podcast so we can continue
- 19:15Speaker 1: to rise up the rankings. Scooch, guess what time it is?
- 19:19Speaker 1: Is it time to talk about the Hall of Fame?
- 19:21Speaker 1: Hall of Fame? Living in the Hall of Fame. Let's
- 19:28Speaker 1: hear those first bars. So here are some suggestions you
- 19:32Speaker 1: and I are going to vote. I think we've got
- 19:33Speaker 1: enough for a first and a second class right now.
- 19:35Speaker 1: This is a suggestion from a listener. Um Eric Biggio,
- 19:40Speaker 1: Eric Biggio, b I G g O. You do absolutely
- 19:45Speaker 1: and him? Well, wow, great? Um his suggestions. Jimmy the Greek,
- 19:51Speaker 1: I like it. He's a no brainer. I say we
- 19:55Speaker 1: get five in the first class. Jimmy the Greek. Bob Martin,
- 19:59Speaker 1: also no brainer. Lefty Rosenthal, Yeah, also a no brainer. Um,
- 20:07Speaker 1: Ron Saco, I don't know who Ron Sacco is. I
- 20:12Speaker 1: have to confess I'm not familiar. If you don't know
- 20:15Speaker 1: him and I don't know him, he's not in the
- 20:16Speaker 1: first ballot, might not he might not even be in
- 20:18Speaker 1: the second class. Um. Bob Vogaris, I said, yes, you
- 20:24Speaker 1: don't know bab Garris who Scooch say again, Harla Bob
- 20:32Speaker 1: Haral is like Haralabos Harala Bos, like the most famous
- 20:38Speaker 1: NBA better in history. Does he have a pseudonym? Bob
- 20:42Speaker 1: Vogaris gonna live in Vegas? Like he was a guy
- 20:46Speaker 1: who started making bank on like NBA halftimes and totals
- 20:52Speaker 1: years ago, so much so that you guys had to
- 20:55Speaker 1: change your formula. Well, I know I know him, not
- 20:59Speaker 1: his name. I know the people that were betting on
- 21:02Speaker 1: his behalf. All right, well, he's getting in even though
- 21:07Speaker 1: you don't know him. I'm going to send you a
- 21:08Speaker 1: story that we did about him back when I was
- 21:09Speaker 1: at ESPN the magazine. Um, Zach Clark, who's that Clark?
- 21:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I thought you were going to throw
- 21:15Speaker 1: another one at me. Allan Boston, I like that. I
- 21:22Speaker 1: feel like Boston might be the second class. I've got
- 21:25Speaker 1: an idea for the second class. Um uh, Alan, go ahead.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I was gonna say, you don't think Billy Walters should
- 21:35Speaker 1: be in the first class, Dude, I haven't gotten there yet. Oh,
- 21:38Speaker 1: is there there's more? I thought you said he had
- 21:40Speaker 1: five you know, I think there should be five in
- 21:42Speaker 1: the first class. Okay, all right, think Allen Dakinson. Okay,
- 21:48Speaker 1: Billy Walters Man Binker, Sam Brown. These were from Eric
- 21:56Speaker 1: Sam Brown. I like Sam Brown. Who's brown? Sam Brown
- 22:00Speaker 1: was one of the originals from the sixties, seventies, eighties,
- 22:04Speaker 1: even even going into the nineties. He he was like
- 22:09Speaker 1: and he he passed away just before we got into
- 22:12Speaker 1: the mobile betting. But when when we went to the pagers, uh,
- 22:16Speaker 1: he would bet from home using a pager system and
- 22:20Speaker 1: because he couldn't make it into the casino anymore. But
- 22:22Speaker 1: he was a he was a mover. I mean when
- 22:25Speaker 1: he bet lines moved. Yeah, I like that, all right.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I think we got some consensus on and things here.
- 22:32Speaker 1: But hold on Phil Nicholson. Oh that that's a little dangerous.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I don't know about that one. It's dangerous to put
- 22:41Speaker 1: Phil Nicholson in a in a fake hall. It same
- 22:45Speaker 1: as controversy. It's controversial. Is it dangerous to say his
- 22:49Speaker 1: name out loud? Is he like Volde Wort? I don't understand, Like, well,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I just don't know that the reason firsthand. I mean,
- 23:01Speaker 1: I hear he's an epic gamblers are That's all you
- 23:06Speaker 1: need to know. So all we're doing now is just
- 23:08Speaker 1: putting epic gamblers in or just It's well known that
- 23:12Speaker 1: he likes to bet on sports. We've written stories about
- 23:14Speaker 1: how much he likes to bet on sports. I don't
- 23:16Speaker 1: think you know we're gonna libel somebody by saying PHILM.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Nicholson likes to bet on sports. He should so he
- 23:21Speaker 1: should be in the Sports Betting Hall of Fame. Yeah,
- 23:24Speaker 1: I think so. I'd vote for him if it was
- 23:28Speaker 1: a secret ballot about that. Oh my god, you're the
- 23:31Speaker 1: fucking worst, fucking suit. Here's another one for you, Pete Rose.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Well you've already went down that road with Phil Nicholson
- 23:41Speaker 1: and why not? How about how about Arnold Rothstein and
- 23:46Speaker 1: in the nineteen Oh my god, you are seriously comparing
- 23:50Speaker 1: like Bill Nicholson to Arnold Rothstein? And when did you
- 23:55Speaker 1: become like so corporate and clean like Phil Nicholson is
- 24:00Speaker 1: never been busted for anything, well kind of was busted.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Everybody got out, all right, hold on, we're going back
- 24:08Speaker 1: to that. P Rose is in. It's a no brainer.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Here's the last entry that that Grennell sent me. Grnell
- 24:13Speaker 1: sent me a bunch of the best entries. Uh, Joe
- 24:16Speaker 1: Lupo should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Can
- 24:18Speaker 1: make an Alan also Wow. I love that. Uh, Alan,
- 24:24Speaker 1: You can make an argument for Alan Boston, although he
- 24:27Speaker 1: sounds like too much of a curmudgeon to show up
- 24:28Speaker 1: to the ceremony. Yeah, Alan Boston give an epic Sports
- 24:33Speaker 1: Betting Hall of Fame speech. It would it would, it
- 24:37Speaker 1: might be might be the longest, it would be long
- 24:44Speaker 1: for and it had wards like perspicacious. He'd be mad
- 24:49Speaker 1: if he was not a first ballot or though you
- 24:51Speaker 1: might not show up if he's not a first ballot.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Should get him on talk about this if he returned.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I tried to get him on the podcast during March
- 24:58Speaker 1: Madness and like I texted him, He's like And a
- 25:00Speaker 1: week later he's like, I don't do text just call me.
- 25:03Speaker 1: And I immediately texted him back and like, I said,
- 25:05Speaker 1: well just come on today. Never heard back. Wow, I
- 25:13Speaker 1: know you're holding your phone. I just texted you, right,
- 25:16Speaker 1: I know. Uh, here's my choices. I think we can
- 25:20Speaker 1: go big in the first class and then the second
- 25:22Speaker 1: class is a little smaller. But here's my choices. Jimmy
- 25:25Speaker 1: the Greek, Bob Martin, Lefty Rosenthal, Uh, Billy Walters, Sam Brown,
- 25:35Speaker 1: that is my first class. I think you would not
- 25:38Speaker 1: have a problem with anybody if if releasing that first class,
- 25:42Speaker 1: what about Lem Banker? I'm on the close. So when
- 25:45Speaker 1: you were talking Sam Brown and Lenn Banker, they're like
- 25:47Speaker 1: one and one. Lamb was probably a little bit more
- 25:50Speaker 1: well known, but that was by design. I mean, he
- 25:52Speaker 1: wanted to be out there. He wanted people to know
- 25:54Speaker 1: his name, Sam Brown did. He didn't care if anyone
- 25:58Speaker 1: knew his name. He was all about making bets and
- 26:00Speaker 1: making money, all right. Then I am going with Lem
- 26:03Speaker 1: Banker too. So it's the sixth Jimmy the Greek, Bob Martin,
- 26:06Speaker 1: Lefty Rosenthal. Um, by the way, we should explain, Like
- 26:10Speaker 1: Jimmy the Greek, obviously everybody knows um, Bob Martin one
- 26:14Speaker 1: of the original bookmakers. Like he was making lines as
- 26:17Speaker 1: a bookmaker in Minneapolis that everybody in the country was following.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Then he moved to Vegas and like was one of
- 26:22Speaker 1: the original bookmakers and sort of a small shop in
- 26:24Speaker 1: Vegas and and really set the tone for what Vegas
- 26:26Speaker 1: became as a as a epicenter for sports betting. Um,
- 26:32Speaker 1: Lefty Rosenthal, obviously is that his name or is that
- 26:35Speaker 1: the name in the movie. No, it's Frank. Frank Rosenthal's
- 26:39Speaker 1: name Banker. So explain to Frank Rosenthal was because people
- 26:42Speaker 1: will get a kick out of this. You've got lineage there. Yeah,
- 26:44Speaker 1: So he was. He was a legendary Chicago UH kind
- 26:49Speaker 1: of bookmaker, oddsmaker, sports gambler that had connections to a
- 26:53Speaker 1: lot of the Chicago Mob. So they sent him to
- 26:57Speaker 1: Vegas basically the UH to help, you know, set up
- 27:02Speaker 1: these these sports books that Chica. The Startus Hotel had
- 27:05Speaker 1: a kind of an affiliation to the Chicago Mob as well,
- 27:09Speaker 1: so they sent him out there to essentially run the
- 27:13Speaker 1: whole property and look out for their interests back there. UH.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And then he couldn't get gaming license, so he had
- 27:20Speaker 1: to operate under you know, the title of entertainment director
- 27:24Speaker 1: and food and beverage director and all these things. But
- 27:26Speaker 1: he was, he was the guy. He ran the Startus
- 27:28Speaker 1: for many years, and it was the Startus was one
- 27:31Speaker 1: of the first casinos to actually have a racing sports
- 27:35Speaker 1: book in the property. And I think it was back
- 27:37Speaker 1: in four and it was by far the biggest and
- 27:41Speaker 1: the best for probably I don't know, thirty years, at
- 27:44Speaker 1: least twenty five years until someone wrote a book about
- 27:47Speaker 1: it and sort of ended all that. Do you really
- 27:49Speaker 1: did the death of our Las Vegas. Yeah, but but
- 27:53Speaker 1: ultimately I ended up running that that sports book. So
- 27:57Speaker 1: there is a there is a lineage there, and you
- 27:59Speaker 1: know he did have because I've seen it. There was
- 28:02Speaker 1: a tunnel that went from the executive office up on
- 28:07Speaker 1: the second floor of the Stardust, and the tunnel went
- 28:10Speaker 1: there was a staircase that went downstairs underneath the property
- 28:14Speaker 1: and had an entrance out onto the street, out onto
- 28:18Speaker 1: the strip. And the logic behind that was that in
- 28:20Speaker 1: case he got rated or maybe another mob Bob group
- 28:25Speaker 1: was going to come after him, he could make a
- 28:27Speaker 1: quick getaway. But we are that whole thing was filled
- 28:33Speaker 1: up with cement very early on, right after he left.
- 28:37Speaker 1: I mean, that's great. I love the idea of him
- 28:39Speaker 1: like he's running under the tunnel and like everyone's coming
- 28:42Speaker 1: in and he's running underneath them in the opposite direction.
- 28:45Speaker 1: It just hops into the street. Some caddie pulls up
- 28:48Speaker 1: and he's gone. That's about it. I mean, it's stuff
- 28:53Speaker 1: you see in kind of movies, but that's really what
- 28:56Speaker 1: what they did. I mean, it was kind of a
- 28:58Speaker 1: very dangerous world they lived and back then, and you know,
- 29:01Speaker 1: there was a lot of treachery going on, and you
- 29:03Speaker 1: didn't know who was coming at you and when, so
- 29:07Speaker 1: they had those kind of safeguards. Well. Also just it
- 29:10Speaker 1: was a movie like this was the guy that was
- 29:12Speaker 1: portrayed by Robert de Niro in the movie Casino exactly,
- 29:16Speaker 1: so uh and I think his name was like Ace something,
- 29:20Speaker 1: Ace Rothstein was his name was. And they actually filmed that.
- 29:24Speaker 1: So I was at the Stardust when they were filming
- 29:27Speaker 1: that at the Riviera Hotel, which was right across the
- 29:30Speaker 1: street from the Stardust, so you know, from time to
- 29:34Speaker 1: time they were shooting there. For almost a month, I
- 29:38Speaker 1: just walk across the street watching film a scene, come back,
- 29:42Speaker 1: come back to work. And it was ironic that they
- 29:43Speaker 1: were using the Riviera across the street to replicate what
- 29:47Speaker 1: was the Stardust, although they were using another assumed name
- 29:51Speaker 1: in the movie as well. When I was working on
- 29:54Speaker 1: the odds Um, the book that you wrote about sports
- 29:59Speaker 1: bedders and the death of their Las Vegas through the
- 30:01Speaker 1: eyes of the Startus bookmakers, Um, I would always stay
- 30:05Speaker 1: at the start Dust, like I'd be there for like
- 30:07Speaker 1: ten nights in a row. My last trip um was
- 30:12Speaker 1: during the n C Double a tournament in two thousand
- 30:14Speaker 1: and I'm at the startust my last night, I stayed
- 30:18Speaker 1: up all night. I just like I couldn't sleep. I
- 30:20Speaker 1: was a nervous wreck. Like I was done reporting the book.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I had to go figure out what the funk I
- 30:24Speaker 1: was gonna write, like all this kind of stuff and
- 30:27Speaker 1: m and I stayed up all night reading Casino. Worst
- 30:32Speaker 1: mistake I could have made, because I'm reading this book
- 30:34Speaker 1: like I will never write anything this good about like this,
- 30:39Speaker 1: about this culture, and I'm like, what am I going
- 30:42Speaker 1: to do? I that was I did not sleep for
- 30:45Speaker 1: like two days. I could imagine that. That's like, yeah,
- 30:51Speaker 1: I can't even make an analogy, but uh, I mean
- 30:54Speaker 1: talk about ruining your confidence. Let me just start with
- 30:57Speaker 1: uh one of the best books ever written and in uh,
- 31:00Speaker 1: that'll that'll give you some drive to put something together. Huh. Well,
- 31:03Speaker 1: when you're making the Hall of Fame, you want to
- 31:05Speaker 1: be in the Hall of Fame. You know what I'm saying.
- 31:07Speaker 1: That's true when I read that. You know, there was
- 31:10Speaker 1: some stuff I was reading in Casino. I read it too.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I think after the movie came out. I saw the
- 31:16Speaker 1: movie first, but there was a lot of people in
- 31:18Speaker 1: that book that I actually knew. So I was so
- 31:21Speaker 1: as I'm reading it and they're talking about people that
- 31:23Speaker 1: I've met and know pretty well, it was kind of
- 31:27Speaker 1: like a little bit of a jarring effect for me,
- 31:29Speaker 1: and I was like, Hey, that's awesome. I mean, I
- 31:34Speaker 1: mean a couple of odds makers that that Lefty knew
- 31:38Speaker 1: real well that I had still used as as some
- 31:42Speaker 1: of our odds makers at the start US back in
- 31:44Speaker 1: the mid nineties. Uh, you know, so it's really kind
- 31:48Speaker 1: of cool. That is awesome. Alright, So I think we
- 31:50Speaker 1: have our first class. I'm not going to announce our
- 31:52Speaker 1: second class yet. Um, I think we have our first class.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Were to um continue Jimmy the Greek, Bob Martin, Lefty Rosenthal, Um,
- 32:02Speaker 1: Billy Walters, Lem Banker, Sam Brown. So at the end,
- 32:07Speaker 1: Billy Walters, Lem Baker, Sam Brown almost like three legendary
- 32:11Speaker 1: betters who represent three entirely different generations. Like Sam Brown,
- 32:16Speaker 1: as you said, came on that everything from the beginning
- 32:20Speaker 1: of time, didn't want anyone to know who he is. Um.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Then you move into Lem Baker, who was a big
- 32:26Speaker 1: better had a lot of great strategies, but wanted people
- 32:29Speaker 1: to know who he was. Then you get into Billy,
- 32:31Speaker 1: who is like the most famous better in the history
- 32:34Speaker 1: of the world, from when it comes to sports, um
- 32:37Speaker 1: and like that's a nice little narrative there, from you know,
- 32:40Speaker 1: the beginning of time to current day. Absolutely, and then
- 32:43Speaker 1: you know Lefty, who you know obviously he needs to
- 32:46Speaker 1: know no more kind of introductions. I think we nailed
- 32:52Speaker 1: it there. I think we got a set. When we
- 32:54Speaker 1: got a second class Bruin like a good second class,
- 32:59Speaker 1: said about that next week. All right, all right, folks, listen.
- 33:03Speaker 1: If you disagree with our first class, if you have
- 33:07Speaker 1: more suggestions for the second class, go to the buffet
- 33:11Speaker 1: iTunes page. Put it in the reviews. We will read them.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Obviously we did because we talked about a couple of
- 33:16Speaker 1: them here. Um rate review, unsubscribe, re subscribe. Be a
- 33:21Speaker 1: friend of the podcast. Scooch thanks for coming on, man,
- 33:24Speaker 1: I appreciate it. Hey, Chat, thanks for having me on
- 33:26Speaker 1: the Scooch and Chat show. I was gonna say, thanks
- 33:29Speaker 1: for coming on your own podcast. Yeah, don't forget. Coming
- 33:33Speaker 1: up next, coming up with Lex North. Lauren Joffe is
- 33:35Speaker 1: uh going to file a report from her day in
- 33:39Speaker 1: Delaware traversing the postage stamp of a state that nobody
- 33:44Speaker 1: talks about except for when they're sports betting. Uh, so
- 33:47Speaker 1: she can tell us what it was like there next
- 33:49Speaker 1: up on the buffet reporting from Delaware. I think I'm
- 33:53Speaker 1: assuming because I know she's hung hover and so she
- 33:56Speaker 1: wouldn't have left Delaware in a particular state. Lauren Joffey,
- 34:00Speaker 1: who was on the scene yesterday when Delaware h allowed
- 34:06Speaker 1: sports betting for the first time. We're now spelling sharp
- 34:09Speaker 1: c A r any y because John Carney, the governor
- 34:12Speaker 1: of Delaware, chose the Phillies a plus two hundred to
- 34:15Speaker 1: win last night. That was the first bet made in Delaware,
- 34:18Speaker 1: and he was on it. Joffy, Yeah, everything about Delaware.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Where are you well, I am sitting in the hotel. Wow,
- 34:28Speaker 1: we put you up in a hotel for this, I know, right,
- 34:33Speaker 1: I mean there was I mean I was I was
- 34:35Speaker 1: going to hit all three because you know, they didn't
- 34:37Speaker 1: actually have a chance to go to the third one. Um,
- 34:41Speaker 1: But but I made it to the two. I mean
- 34:44Speaker 1: there sure, as small as Delaware is, things aren't exactly
- 34:47Speaker 1: right there, so you know, it was a bit of
- 34:51Speaker 1: a bit of a drive. Um. But I don't know,
- 34:56Speaker 1: I'm looking at a race track, which is pretty cool. No,
- 35:01Speaker 1: I'm serious. I've never seen and I've never really seen
- 35:04Speaker 1: a NASCAR track, so but that's what I have. That's
- 35:06Speaker 1: my view. Um, you must be in Dover. Yes, I
- 35:11Speaker 1: am in Dover. This was the second stop. Um, so
- 35:16Speaker 1: I missed the governor who was I guess he was here,
- 35:19Speaker 1: Um at this casino when he put his bed in. Um.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I was at the the other, the other one, the
- 35:27Speaker 1: in Wilmington's um for the opening, and um, it was
- 35:33Speaker 1: you know, it was exciting. They were doing the T
- 35:35Speaker 1: minus ten, T minus five, you know, counting it down
- 35:39Speaker 1: until the best until it opened. Um. I think there
- 35:43Speaker 1: was more media there than there were bettors. Um. And
- 35:48Speaker 1: there was there was a line which less for about
- 35:52Speaker 1: half an hour and then that was kind of it. Um,
- 35:56Speaker 1: but you know, it was exciting. So there were more
- 36:01Speaker 1: media than betters described to me. Describe to me what
- 36:06Speaker 1: the betters look like. Um, well, there was there was
- 36:14Speaker 1: your there weren't a lot of there were some young people. Um,
- 36:20Speaker 1: there were a lot of um, you know, you know
- 36:26Speaker 1: who's in who's in a casino and you know Tuesday
- 36:29Speaker 1: morning in Delaware, I mean that was there were a
- 36:33Speaker 1: lot of those people. I think they were in there
- 36:34Speaker 1: for the excitement. I don't necessarily think they were betting
- 36:36Speaker 1: in anything. Um, but I mean there were people that
- 36:40Speaker 1: were betting. Somebody asked me. He kind of came by with, so,
- 36:42Speaker 1: what do you think of the Cleveland game? And you know,
- 36:45Speaker 1: it's like, this is your first time betting. I mean,
- 36:47Speaker 1: you know people no one really knew. I don't think
- 36:49Speaker 1: what to expect. Um. And there's people going around asking
- 36:53Speaker 1: anyone if they were first time better you know that
- 36:56Speaker 1: they would help him out. Um. It was you know,
- 37:02Speaker 1: it was interesting. So so we'll get to the fact
- 37:07Speaker 1: you're hungover. Yeah, but but what was the first bet
- 37:13Speaker 1: you made? Um? I actually I didn't bet to like
- 37:16Speaker 1: him down here, um because this only because I didn't
- 37:20Speaker 1: want to have to make a bet and have to
- 37:23Speaker 1: go back there and cash it. UM. So I bet
- 37:28Speaker 1: I don't. I've did a bunch and I'm a green
- 37:30Speaker 1: dut you now. I bet the under in the Philly
- 37:34Speaker 1: Chicago game. UM. I bet the dream money line thanks
- 37:39Speaker 1: to that labs, UM, and it was UM and the
- 37:46Speaker 1: met under. You bet the w n B A Sorry
- 37:52Speaker 1: sorry but yeah, I bet w Yeah. I just want
- 37:54Speaker 1: to be clear like people people will be thinking, like, wait,
- 37:57Speaker 1: what what Bet involved himlaj one that she was able
- 38:01Speaker 1: to to sort of reverse time and go back in
- 38:06Speaker 1: that finals using bet labs. No, no, okay, right, and
- 38:13Speaker 1: mind you like, I didn't see w n B at
- 38:15Speaker 1: the at the at the other just you know, so
- 38:18Speaker 1: when I got here and I sawed it on board,
- 38:19Speaker 1: I was very excited. Um, I said. When I went
- 38:23Speaker 1: to the counter and I said, you know, I'd like
- 38:24Speaker 1: the dream money line, and he looked at me and
- 38:28Speaker 1: he kind of looked, you know, like you know what
- 38:29Speaker 1: I was talking about, like, oh, w n B A.
- 38:31Speaker 1: And he said, I don't really follow w n B
- 38:33Speaker 1: A and I was like, yeah, I need to do.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I but it don't you know what, got a really
- 38:39Speaker 1: aggressive slack channel for the w n B A. And
- 38:43Speaker 1: so I'm just gonna follow whatever they're doing. And I'm
- 38:46Speaker 1: thinking I'm gonna make some money and look lo and behold,
- 38:48Speaker 1: Lauren Joffy found Green Dot City. I did it was
- 38:52Speaker 1: it was fantastic. The problem with at Least last night
- 38:56Speaker 1: is the book closed at ten, so I had to
- 39:02Speaker 1: stay here technically because I couldn't have you know, I
- 39:05Speaker 1: could have sent it in. I guess but I couldn't
- 39:07Speaker 1: have cashed it in last night. Well that's like, why
- 39:09Speaker 1: would you close the sports book before something closed? They
- 39:13Speaker 1: can't cash your bet. Yeah, I don't know. The guy,
- 39:17Speaker 1: I mean, like I kind of says like, yeah, we're
- 39:18Speaker 1: doing this for the first you know, for the first
- 39:20Speaker 1: little bit, and I don't know what little bit means. Um.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I mean, the bar in there culls it eleven. So
- 39:28Speaker 1: it's not quite it's not quite the same as as Vegas's.
- 39:33Speaker 1: You know, I'll say that. You mean, when you're in
- 39:38Speaker 1: Delaware Wilmington's at the race track. It's just not the
- 39:44Speaker 1: same as when you're like at the Bellaggio. I keep
- 39:47Speaker 1: it that. I know I was. It was kind of shocking.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Um no, but really yeah, no, I mean, and there's
- 39:55Speaker 1: no real place in the book to watch the games. Um.
- 39:59Speaker 1: They had you know, the big TVs up there, but
- 40:01Speaker 1: it was all horse racing, even though there was you know,
- 40:04Speaker 1: a ton of mlbon um. So you know, it wasn't
- 40:09Speaker 1: It wasn't the greatest place to watch the games either,
- 40:12Speaker 1: But you know that's I guess they'll figure it out.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Maybe I did see uh some of the recaps on
- 40:19Speaker 1: sports Center last night and I was disappointed that they
- 40:25Speaker 1: had to design it and make it look so much
- 40:28Speaker 1: like a typical sports book. Yeah. Yeah, it's literally I mean,
- 40:35Speaker 1: like you know, they have a little the desks set
- 40:38Speaker 1: up with the terminal, you know, the TVs. Um. I
- 40:42Speaker 1: mean it really was. It didn't It wasn't modern at all. Um.
- 40:48Speaker 1: I mean, and I guess it's the same book they've
- 40:51Speaker 1: been using just for the horse racing, right they didn't
- 40:54Speaker 1: build the new book. Um. But yeah, I mean I guess,
- 40:58Speaker 1: I mean maybe they just it was so if you
- 41:00Speaker 1: didn't have a chance to I mean, I don't know. Um,
- 41:04Speaker 1: it could be the happening place to watch. Honestly, it
- 41:08Speaker 1: could be. Like in all seriousness, it's a tiny little
- 41:12Speaker 1: state and it's close enough to a lot of things
- 41:16Speaker 1: that people would go there and spend a weekend around
- 41:19Speaker 1: big events. It's like, you don't want to travel all
- 41:22Speaker 1: the way to Vegas. They have a huge opportunity here
- 41:25Speaker 1: to carve out a piece of the market for that
- 41:28Speaker 1: filly area for Baltimore. Um, for people who like if
- 41:33Speaker 1: you want to spend two hours getting out of town
- 41:35Speaker 1: and you do that for a day and then you
- 41:36Speaker 1: go to the beach in Delaware, like they can nail this.
- 41:40Speaker 1: They really could, and I mean because you know, it's
- 41:42Speaker 1: it's a nice to you know, Um, it's it's it's
- 41:47Speaker 1: relatively I mean it's not big, but it's you know,
- 41:49Speaker 1: it's not tiny at all. Um. But yeah, they could
- 41:52Speaker 1: really honestly, they could really have an amazing opportunity here. Um,
- 41:58Speaker 1: and maybe they will. Maybe they wanted to see how
- 42:00Speaker 1: things were gonna go. I mean I don't know, Um,
- 42:04Speaker 1: but yeah, the book it's just not it's it's not
- 42:06Speaker 1: somewhere you go to. I mean watching a game and
- 42:08Speaker 1: there is just not it's just not what you just
- 42:13Speaker 1: I mean you can, I guess, but it's it's you know,
- 42:16Speaker 1: TV doesn't face the bar, so you know, it's but
- 42:20Speaker 1: it could be. There's there's you know it could be
- 42:24Speaker 1: and you know, I don't know football season. Do you
- 42:27Speaker 1: think by football season it will be better? I mean
- 42:29Speaker 1: I would hope so, But I mean I'm trying to think.
- 42:32Speaker 1: I mean, they would have to really redesign the book.
- 42:35Speaker 1: There's it's not big enough really, Um. You have to
- 42:39Speaker 1: take out all the little desks, um, which they could do, um,
- 42:45Speaker 1: but I mean they could have to do a lot
- 42:48Speaker 1: of resigning. Um. But you know, it really could be
- 42:53Speaker 1: very fun place. And I mean it's kind of it's
- 42:56Speaker 1: in the middle of Delaware, so yeah, like you said,
- 42:58Speaker 1: like I came in from d C. There's a lot
- 43:01Speaker 1: of you know, there's people I met people last night.
- 43:03Speaker 1: There were from from Philly. Um, there's even a cope
- 43:08Speaker 1: people from New Jersey. So you know it's you skip
- 43:11Speaker 1: the Atlantic city to come down here. Um, just for
- 43:15Speaker 1: the gambling. So you know it could be it could
- 43:19Speaker 1: be huge. It's gotta you know, figure it out. So
- 43:25Speaker 1: let me transition here for a second. Uh, why did
- 43:29Speaker 1: you get so drunk last night? I mean, don't I
- 43:31Speaker 1: didn't necessarily get drunk. I just was drinking drinking drinks
- 43:38Speaker 1: that I'm gonna go ahead and assume we're not the
- 43:41Speaker 1: highest quality alcohol. So I just you know, the headache
- 43:49Speaker 1: hit me this morning. Here's it's like when last we
- 43:53Speaker 1: left Lauren dropping on the podcast. Um, you were a
- 43:58Speaker 1: hate betting to general it living with your parents, who
- 44:02Speaker 1: was convincing herself. Uh, she was very funny while while
- 44:09Speaker 1: alone in your bedroom. So how are things progressing? Um?
- 44:18Speaker 1: And I think I think let me just add since
- 44:20Speaker 1: then we can add, um, you've become addicted to both
- 44:24Speaker 1: bet Labs and the side Action channel in Slack at
- 44:30Speaker 1: the Action Network, and I might add the general show
- 44:34Speaker 1: is Slack at the Action Network. Yes, I'm waiting to
- 44:38Speaker 1: get blacklisted from Slack. Um they're gonna kick me out soon.
- 44:43Speaker 1: I serious. I'm like this is like my own person,
- 44:47Speaker 1: a little Twitter inside inside Slack. Um. Yeah, that labs.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I'm totally completely obsessed with. Um, it's keep me up
- 44:57Speaker 1: at night. Um progressing. I mean, I'm in Delaware, So
- 45:02Speaker 1: there you go. That's true. You left the house. I did.
- 45:05Speaker 1: I left the house. Um, came all the way to Delaware. Um.
- 45:09Speaker 1: You know. Now we're making moves at you know, at
- 45:12Speaker 1: the Jockey House. Lauren's going places. Um, she's just not
- 45:17Speaker 1: a shware I go places. So you known't mean explain
- 45:23Speaker 1: to me what that means. I means I have to.
- 45:26Speaker 1: It means I have to pull the trigger on a
- 45:28Speaker 1: place to move that. That's what that really means. I
- 45:31Speaker 1: just can't feel like me make up my mind. It's
- 45:35Speaker 1: it's it's that honestly keeps me at the night. I
- 45:39Speaker 1: just can't make up my mind. I'm very indecisive. So
- 45:42Speaker 1: what were the choices again? Chicago l or l A
- 45:49Speaker 1: possibly New York. I'll throw that in there. But those
- 45:52Speaker 1: three places, um, for lots of reasons. LA would be
- 45:58Speaker 1: the easiest, just because all my us is there. Yeah, um,
- 46:03Speaker 1: Chicago because I've always wanted to not live I mean
- 46:07Speaker 1: I've lived in l A all my life for the
- 46:08Speaker 1: most part, so I kind of wanted to do. I
- 46:10Speaker 1: want to I want to have a winter, like a
- 46:12Speaker 1: real winter. Um, and I've been told Chicago has those.
- 46:17Speaker 1: So it's it's the rumor around town. It is the
- 46:20Speaker 1: rumor around town. I want to know what it feels
- 46:23Speaker 1: like to be miserably holed up in my house. It's
- 46:27Speaker 1: it's going so bad. That's to me sounds kind of amazing.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. As a Chicago in and
- 46:32Speaker 1: then someone who has spent his entire adult life living
- 46:34Speaker 1: on East Coast, those days when like you know it's
- 46:38Speaker 1: gonna be you're gonna be snow bound, are really the best,
- 46:41Speaker 1: Like you sort of just you you you hear the
- 46:45Speaker 1: apocalyptic storm is coming in. You're watching your local weather guy.
- 46:49Speaker 1: They're getting all amped like they're going on seven, like
- 46:53Speaker 1: it's a hostage crisis, and they're coming in like they're unshaven,
- 46:57Speaker 1: and their ties are undone live for this moment and
- 47:01Speaker 1: like you are getting up to the meeting radar on
- 47:04Speaker 1: where the storm is. You are like schools are closing
- 47:08Speaker 1: and you are like there's no water on the shelves
- 47:11Speaker 1: at the grocery store. You are hunkering down. Those are
- 47:13Speaker 1: the They are amazing. I love those days. There is
- 47:17Speaker 1: nothing more disappointing when like it starts and it's nothing
- 47:22Speaker 1: and like it's It's the most anticlimactic thing in the world.
- 47:25Speaker 1: It's so upsetting because like you've sort of mentally got
- 47:28Speaker 1: yourself in a place where I'm not leaving the house.
- 47:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna do a little bit of work and I'm
- 47:32Speaker 1: gonna say I'm working from home, but really I'm just
- 47:34Speaker 1: screwing around all day and all of a sudden, like
- 47:37Speaker 1: you have no excuse not to get out. Um, it's amazing.
- 47:41Speaker 1: But here's the thing. Here's the thing about that. That
- 47:45Speaker 1: is that is a feeling that is fleeting. It lasts
- 47:49Speaker 1: for maybe you know, two hours, and then you're like,
- 47:53Speaker 1: fucking A, I gotta get out of this crap. I
- 47:57Speaker 1: gotta find someone to dig out of this crap. I'm
- 47:59Speaker 1: going to be cold and uncomfortable for six months find
- 48:05Speaker 1: a snow vacation. I mean, mind you, I mean it's
- 48:10Speaker 1: snowed since since I've been here, it has snowed. I mean,
- 48:14Speaker 1: and you know, I remember I took a picture of
- 48:17Speaker 1: my car and I was like, oh my god, there's
- 48:18Speaker 1: no on it. And you know, I've won laughed at
- 48:20Speaker 1: me and they're like, no, that's like a dusting. And
- 48:22Speaker 1: then it's like really snowed. Um. And really we couldn't
- 48:25Speaker 1: get out of like the driveway, which didn't really bother
- 48:27Speaker 1: me since I wasn't going anywhere, um um. But but
- 48:35Speaker 1: I loved it. There was I mean, there wasn't really
- 48:38Speaker 1: a downside. It was pretty and the dogs loved the
- 48:41Speaker 1: play in it. And you know, I had the excuse
- 48:43Speaker 1: this time. I had the excuse from not going out anywhere,
- 48:46Speaker 1: which was really the best. The best thing. You know,
- 48:49Speaker 1: sunny when you're in l A, you have no excuse.
- 48:51Speaker 1: You know, sunny outside everyone since why don't you go outside?
- 48:55Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, yeah. One of my kids or one
- 49:00Speaker 1: of my kids has a T shirt that says, uh,
- 49:03Speaker 1: I've been outside. I didn't like the graphics. That is
- 49:10Speaker 1: kind of a hilarious shirt. Um that's his perspective life outside. Yes,
- 49:16Speaker 1: that's my my nephew as well, same exact thing. She's
- 49:19Speaker 1: not playing his oculus or playing on or walking YouTube videos,
- 49:23Speaker 1: then I don't know what he's doing. I would be
- 49:27Speaker 1: in favor. I'm in favor of you moving to New York. Well,
- 49:31Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see. Um, I'm going to come up there,
- 49:37Speaker 1: and I have been saying that forever. Um, yeah, but
- 49:41Speaker 1: you're gonna come up here. You're the one who was
- 49:43Speaker 1: like when we had our big Action Network content summit
- 49:46Speaker 1: and there was no mistaking what day it was, Like
- 49:49Speaker 1: it was so no, I swear it was so on
- 49:53Speaker 1: the on ap and like Scott like, I'm like, where's
- 49:57Speaker 1: Joffe And Scott's like, oh yeah, she thought it was
- 49:59Speaker 1: the twenty six. I swear to you, I swear I
- 50:02Speaker 1: thought it was. I'm not even lying about that. I
- 50:06Speaker 1: swear I did. And it just yeah, I know I was.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I was all hyped up to that very sad I
- 50:12Speaker 1: missed it. I'll get the next one. Hopefully we'll do
- 50:16Speaker 1: another one before football season. Speaking of football season, UM,
- 50:21Speaker 1: we'll also get you back down to Delaware, which is
- 50:23Speaker 1: your new favorite place, so you can report on whether
- 50:26Speaker 1: or not they have improved their offerings before football season. Yeah, absolutely,
- 50:34Speaker 1: um yeah, because right now, all all you can really
- 50:37Speaker 1: do is is, you know, they don't have any anything
- 50:40Speaker 1: other than you know, Baseball, Ah, super Bowl and that's
- 50:45Speaker 1: about it. Um. So yeah, I imagine they'll they'll step
- 50:51Speaker 1: it up. I think if I'm not mistaken, it's there.
- 50:53Speaker 1: It's all part of William Hill um so. I And
- 50:57Speaker 1: they might have mobile bedding soon as well. So you know,
- 51:01Speaker 1: things are things could happen. They just gotta you know,
- 51:05Speaker 1: step it up. Well, listen, I'm looking forward to your report. Uh.
- 51:10Speaker 1: You know we're going to post on Action Network dot com. Uh,
- 51:15Speaker 1: I'm sure it will be full of hilarity and no pressure.
- 51:21Speaker 1: I haven't seen you. I haven't seen you in slack
- 51:23Speaker 1: all morning, so I'm assuming like you're you're writing away
- 51:26Speaker 1: like I can't wait to see it. That's what I've
- 51:28Speaker 1: been doing, or you're just in recovery. A little bit
- 51:31Speaker 1: of both, a little bit of both. Um, but yes,
- 51:36Speaker 1: I'm I am writing, so yes, that will be I'm
- 51:40Speaker 1: gonna do that before I get out of here. So
- 51:42Speaker 1: um that's the plan, all right, Jeffy, thank you for
- 51:46Speaker 1: taking time out from the deadline pressure I'm putting on
- 51:49Speaker 1: you to come and give us a report. You're very welcome.
- 51:53Speaker 1: I'm glad you survived. Thank you so much. I'm glad
- 51:56Speaker 1: I did too. All Right, we'll talk to you later. Okay,
- 52:00Speaker 1: it never
